Today in the nerdy news you need to know about Xbox's Phil Spencer comments on two time Game of the year Starfield coming to other consoles, Xbox Support on the Switch 2 and Gears of War. E day news is heating up. We'll evolve this and more because this is kinda Funny Games Daily. What's up everybody? Welcome to kind of funny Games daily for Monday, January 27th. A mere three months to my birthday. Start thinking, start thinking, start thinking. 2025. I'm one of your hosts, Greg Miller alongside Forbes 30 under 30 aka New York Game Awards nominated aka Commander in Chief of Magic Blessing, Eddie Oye Jr.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Two time Game of the Year Starfield.
Greg Miller
I was. It made me. Which one made me feel good that.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
You put a name of the year.
Greg Miller
Ah, Greg Miller's in. Greg Miller is in 2023. In 2024. Somebody must have given chat and it.
Paris Lilly
Was technically also on the kind of funny game of the year list.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
We don't call all the game. We're not calling Tekken a kind of funniest game of the year.
Greg Miller
Listen, all we're saying is if we. They have the best chance to do something here. Starfield Game of the year edition asterisks. Oh, you're getting. Put it on PlayStation 5 and then the asterisks just. Greg Miller, Greg Miller's Game of the Year.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Do you think they do that? Well, I guess the first question would be do game of the year editions still exist? Do people still do that?
Greg Miller
No, I mean they call it complete editions now. Right. And all this jazz and whatever. You never hear about Game of the year remarried anymore.
Paris Lilly
I think Batman Arkham City killed the game of the year edition.
Greg Miller
You know they don't do it. That'll do it.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Was that the one that had like a billion things on the box art?
Paris Lilly
Yeah, and it did like you couldn't even see Batman Arkham City on the box.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
You couldn't see Batman. People picked it up. That was a Superman game. They're like, oh, damn. All I saw was dc.
Greg Miller
They were let down for sure.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Damn. How are you doing? How's your weekend?
Greg Miller
It was great. Bless. How was yours?
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
It was also great.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Went to did multiple board game nights.
Greg Miller
Nice.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Went to one on Saturday where we busted out. Oh. Oh. This isn't as bad as I remember it, actually. I mean the 10 out of 10 is egregious.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Like the 10 out of 10 going through the mask is kind of crazy. But like the Batman Arkham City logo.
Paris Lilly
Is like the size. It kind of looks like it's another pull quote.
Greg Miller
Yeah. Yeah.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
They got to let people know. They gotta let people know that GamePro really loved the game.
Greg Miller
Loved it. So did Game Informer, Rest in Peace.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Metacritic Game of the Year. But yeah, did a board game night on Saturday. Went really well. But it was also one of those things where the day after, I guess yesterday, right. Get a text that's like, hey, one of the kids sick?
Greg Miller
Oh, no.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
And I'm like, oh, here we go. And I'm fine.
Greg Miller
Like, was it Covid?
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I don't. Well, apparently they're throwing up the norovirus. Norovirus. Seems like it's the vibe. But, like, I'm overhearing and now I'm hearing from, like, other people not of the game night, but separately of, like, people dropping like flies.
Greg Miller
Yeah, a lot of people are sick. Yeah. Tim Getty's homesick right now. You know what I mean? Yeah, Me, the Miller household's been fighting a toddler cold forever. That kind of thing.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I don't know if I need to, like, do a protective, like, mask around myself for the next.
Greg Miller
Well, maybe I do, because it sounds like you're bringing norovirus here now.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
You said that the kid is.
Greg Miller
You brought all these donuts. You coughing all over the donuts.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
You find against the cold. You said the kids.
Greg Miller
That's different. That's different.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Bear walks in with a mask. Like, everybody's like, everybody's germy right now.
Greg Miller
Scared. What is it? February 2020? You know what I'm saying?
Paris Lilly
Not even that.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Don't invoke that.
Greg Miller
What do you say?
Paris Lilly
Never mind. I misunderstood.
Greg Miller
Okay. Don't worry about it. Yeah, you know, it's that time of year. We're sick, everybody's going down, everything's happening. What are you going to do? But I. I appreciate them being like, oh, hey, somebody who's sick at the party. I feel like every. Sick everywhere now. What are you going to do? You know what I mean?
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah. But, yeah, I'm here, I'm healthy.
Greg Miller
I want you to know I play the card game all weekend long.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Oh, which one?
Greg Miller
Some French firefight. It's a kids game. It's. But Ben loves it now. So the idea, right, is that you have these four cards that have 1, 2, 3, 4 on them, right? These represent the floor of the building. Then you have these cards that have flames on the back of them. You put them down four across. Then you deal out your cards to the players, right? When as players play the cards one by one. And so it'll be like I throw down one, and it shows my firefighters knocking out the fire on floor two. Then you throw it on your card. And if yours is above that, then you win and you get to pick a card from one of those. And if it's below that, then I win and I get to pick card. And so then you flip. Take the cards. You flip them over. Usually they're animals. You're saving a kitty dog. My favorite's the shark that's in a. A fishbowl, but there's also two angry people in there. Then if you get them, then it negates one of the cards you've gotten. And then at the end of the game, whoever has the most animals not negated, obviously, by these two people, wins the game.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Oh, that's fun.
Greg Miller
So Ben's been obsessed with it.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Ben's understanding everything that's going on here. Yes, because you lost me halfway through.
Greg Miller
You know how it is. You play just jump in. Just jump in and you'll understand it. Yeah, no, no, he loves it. Yeah, he. He likes it. He hands that he woke up this morning, wanted to play immediately. That was his first thing out of the crib.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
One that I will recommend. Although I. I been. Been probably too young just for how, like, complex this game is, but maybe this is one that you can play with you. You and Jen. Or this could be a stream game. There is a board game called Kim Joy's Magic Bakery. And basically what it is, is overcooked in like a board game form where similar to kind of how you described your game, right? Of like, you have like different rows and like the first row is customers, right? Where each turn you flip a customer and they have an order. And then like, as the turns go, like, the customer, customer moves to the right and then you flip a new one. So now you're trying to fulfill multiple orders. The second row, I think, is like ingredients, and then the third row is like layers. Actually, I think I got that backwards. But, like, you have layers, you have ingredients. So basically you're trying to. You and whoever you're playing with, co op mode. You're trying to like, essentially build people's orders as they go and use, like, certain actions. So you have three actions per turn that you can do to try and like, make people's orders.
Greg Miller
Okay.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
It makes more sense in action. Like, the cool thing about it too, is that it has scenarios to it. And so, like, I played so far twice with, like, different people. So we both played the first scenario where there's like a, A big cat that's like lying on top of some of the layers. And so if you want to move the cat, you have to take an action to move the cat and then get the layer that you want. But then I haven't looked at the other scenarios yet, but essentially like every, in every round there's like a different twist that's going to like make it complicated to play. And so I had a very fun time playing this game.
Greg Miller
Nice.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
You're no overcooked. Highly recommend.
Greg Miller
Okay, interesting. Of course, this is a video game show. I want you to know yesterday Ben and I played a boatload of video games. Mom was sick, right? She's down with the toddler cold. So I can do whatever I want. I go down there, played a whole bunch of stuff. What you'd expect, obviously more Sonic frontiers. Kid can't get enough. He gets to the one point like daddy, run in a circle for me for the, you know, hold triangle to do whatever. But then he played a lot of Sonic Mania. Enjoyed that quite a all over Sonic. Yeah, yeah. And then a surprise hit for a dad and son game, Vampire Survivors. Oh, we're doing Vampire Survivors co op. Me and Ben having a great time.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I can see that. Actually.
Greg Miller
I think that makes sense. When we started, I'm like, Ben, this is hard. Like there's no buttons. Just move with the stick. But like don't hit anybody. I thought for sure he would just be getting killed left and right by bats and stuff. But he'd hang in there.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
He's a gamer.
Greg Miller
Yeah, he's a gamer. You know, it is. Come on, a dad like this, Come on, they say it skips a generation, you know.
Paris Lilly
Exactly.
Greg Miller

Paris Lilly
It's WI Fi upload doesn't fuck anything up.
Greg Miller
Exactly. It's just when you're trying to download.
Paris Lilly
All because it uploads consistently at a consistent speed, but downloading for whatever reason, it just likes to download as fast as fucking possible. Which then.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah, but like isn't this all. Barrett explains this to me like I'm a Victorian child. Isn't it all like, are we, are we uploading right now? Like streaming and doing. Isn't that like all through upload? Why is download impacting the upload?
Greg Miller
I can't quit with the download.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
With the download, dude.
Paris Lilly
I, I don't, I don't know. It would. Roger Piccor would have to answer that for you.
Greg Miller
Sadly, he's still in Trinidad. He. He is.
Paris Lilly
And it, it is his birthday today, not, you know, three months from now.
Greg Miller
I love it when it's somebody's birthday and they're not here. Oh yeah, I gotta get him anything. I gotta say anything.
Paris Lilly
That's what I'm doing next week too.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
22.
Greg Miller

Paris Lilly
Blessing joins me for Kind of Anime this week to talk about our most anticipated anime for 2025 because it's going to be a huge year for anime this year.
Greg Miller
Fantastic. Thank you to our Patreon producers Delaney Twining and Carl Jacobs. Today we're brought to you by Built Rewards and Better Help, but we'll tell you about that later. For now, let's begin the show with what is and forever will be the Ripper Report. Time for some new eight items, A baker's dozen inching closer and closer to the old bit. Eight items. There can't be items that are actually this important. We'll find out though.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
We're getting to that 13 mark someday.
Greg Miller
Number one, Phil Spencer suggests Starfield could come to other consoles. This is Jordan Midler at VGC who just celebrated their 100th podcast. I did a little bit for that.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Congratulations for that.
Greg Miller
We're the best.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Look at us.
Greg Miller
Look at us. Taking our bits, putting them Everywhere.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
The only two people celebrating VGC100, Phil.
Greg Miller
Spencer, has reaffirmed that there is no limit to which Xbox first party games will appear on other platforms. When asked by Destin Legarie whether or not he could confirm that Starfield will remain exclusive, Spencer replied, quote, no, there's no specific game. There's no reason for me to put a ring fence around any game and say this game will not go to a place where it will find players and have business success for us. What we find is we're able to drive a better business that allows us to invest in a great game lineup like you Saw, that's our strategy. Our strategy is now to allow our games to be available. Game pass is an important component of playing the games on your platform. End quote. A PlayStation 5 port of Starfield has been rumored since Xbox shared its quote unquote vision of the future of Xbox a year ago, where it confirmed that Sea of Thieves, hi Fi, Rush and more would no longer be Xbox console exclusives, quote, to keep games off of other platforms. That's not a path for us. It just doesn't work for us, said Spencer.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I got two questions about this.
Greg Miller
I'm sure they'll both be respectful.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
One, do you think Phil Spencer gets tired of saying the same thing over and over and over and over again? And then two, how much more is he gonna need to say this until he doesn't need to say it anymore?
Greg Miller
Great. These are great questions. These are great questions. Yes. I assure you he's sick of having to say the same things over and over and over again. How much longer, I think until it comes out? That's the weird thing because eventually you're going to turn the corner with Starfield, especially where it's no longer, okay, is this ever going to happen? But that's going to. All right, when is it going to happen? Like, clearly it's going to happen. Everything you just said, you want to get as much juice out of this orange as possible, right? Starfield's done what it's done. It's not doing more on Xbox or PC. There's not going to be some giant dlc. God, I hope I'm wrong. That brings in a gajillion people because it's so great. So what's the point anymore, right? This is the whole point of being everywhere. Of like, PlayStation 2, saturate your PlayStation market with the game you want. And when those sales die off and drop off, then, yeah, go to PC, maybe one day go to Xbox. But for Xbox, yeah, kick it out everywhere else. And so I think right now, anytime you play fast and loose with this and like, how many games did we just see in the Xbox developer direct that said PlayStation at the end of them, right? All of them.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Except, I think, all except south of Midnight.
Greg Miller
So it's like, if you're gonna. As long as you're picking and choosing on stuff like that, the question is inevitably gonna come up. I'm like, okay, well, what about PlayStation in that? So it's like a damned if you do, damned if you don't. Like, the easiest way to make it not happen would be like, they're all coming to PlayStation eventually. That's our. That's a new motto. We're gonna be everywhere eventually. But even then you're just gonna still get the question of.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
And that's my thing of. Cause like, you know, to the Starfield thing. Like, yeah, when it comes out. Right. But like, I'm talking even more broader, just Xbox games. Because Starfield can come out next week on PlayStation and they're still going to be the question when we get the fable of, oh, is Fable going to come to PlayStation launch? When is. Is. Is it going to come to PlayStation?
Greg Miller
As long as they're playing this weird thing where they're like, make. If they would have a rule, if they would have a line in the sand. Every game is exclusive to Xbox until an NPC and game pass or whatever. Until six months out, eight months out, whatever. Then you stop getting this question, do you? But as long as you keep making it up on the fly, what the fuck? Paris Lily, the best voice in the business.
Destin Legarie
I can answer that question, thank you very much.
Greg Miller
Because.
Destin Legarie
Because look, I'm shamelessly going to say we also talk to Phil Spencer as well.
Greg Miller
I believe you're the next story. Don't worry.
Destin Legarie
Yeah, yeah. And.
Greg Miller
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. He just played me off the stage. Doesn't even give me any of the credit. Whatever.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Shut up. Gamer tag radio.
Destin Legarie
People always have to answer this question because to your point, I don't think they can specifically put a. A timeline on when one of their games is going to go to another platform.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Destin Legarie
Let's just take south of Midnight as the example. Right. That's a small team at compulsion. All the resources are probably being put into let's get it out on Xbox and PC day one. And then later on they're probably going to be able to focus on. All right, let's get it to PlayStation and Switch and wherever else. Right. He. To me, he's being as crystal clear as he possibly can that with the no red lines thing he's telling you, expect every Xbox game to eventually show up on another platform. If they can be day and day, they will. If they can't, they will. When they have enough time and resources to port it over.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
My question then becomes, why don't we see this? And maybe, maybe it happens. I just don't and I don't see it. But like on the PlayStation side, PlayStation does the same thing. Maybe not bring their games to Xbox, but most PlayStation games, if not seemingly all of them, end up on PC. Right. Like there is a. I think a We. News of Rise of the Ronin. The.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
You know, the Steam date for that got announced. And it doesn't feel like people have to ask the same question every time for PlayStation.
Greg Miller
And that's the simple answer. It's because no one at PlayStation talks to people. Herman. Herman is not on Gamertag Radio. He is not on Destin's podcast. He is not on kind of funnies. He is the Tower. He does the thing and bounces off. Like, I just don't. There's this whole. There's no way.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Who are you gonna ask?
Greg Miller
Exactly. Right. Like, I mean. And again, it's also then the weird tribalism of it.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah.
Greg Miller
Where I think those first couple PlayStation games coming to PC. Oh, the PlayStation community was so up and now that it's normalized, nobody cares.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah.
Greg Miller
So I also then think it's like Steam players aren't as vocal about where am I? Where is this? Where is this? Where. Because they have 3,000 games every day getting downloaded. Granted most of them are hentai porn. But there's games there that are happening.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Fair enough. But yeah. And I think I come down in the same place. I think I even take it a step further of. I think on the Xbox side of Community, there is. It feels like there's more of an ownership over. I'm an Xbox fan.
Greg Miller
Sure.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Therefore, I have a vested interest in Xbox's business. And because Xbox is putting their games out on PlayStation a year later or sometimes day and date. Right. Or whatever it is like I'm going to get up in arms. Where it feels like on the PlayStation side. Right. The audience kind of has given up very quickly of, oh man. At first, oh, it's coming to PC and now it's like, all right, cool. Like we get it.
Greg Miller
The picking a team and being dedicated to defending that team is such a. This is going to sound so insulting. Stick with me. Such a second place mentality. Such a downtrodden mentality. Right. Where I feel like even when I was at IG and it just started and I was on the PlayStation team, we launched podcast beyond and it was when PlayStation 3 was getting the shit kicked out of it. Nothing ran well on it. There was no games for it. But there was this commiserating as a PlayStation community about how bad things they were. But then this is going to be great. And what about Lair? Maybe that'll be like. There was this whole like that brought people together. The negativity to form a community to build on and go off of and really feel connected to everybody while. And I Can't say much about the Xbox community because I wasn't a part of it, right? But it was. Xbox 360 was so big and so ubiquitous that I didn't feel like it had the same sense of community. So then I think we've gone to a place where that's flipped, where PlayStation 5 is a runaway success if you have a console or you have that and people, mainstream people want it just for their sports games or whatever. It's like that is there's still a PlayStation audience, but it is not the PlayStation audience that was being fed with PSX, was being fed with funny videos from Jack Trenton and Shu hey. And Adam boys and having personalities that meant so much that we're actually talking. Whereas the Xbox community are the people I think who, hey, I invested in a series exit launch. I put all this money in. I bought the proprietary memory card thing for the back of it. Like I am all in. And I believe in the future. I believe in the cloud, I believe in the game, anywhere the game pass. But I am still sour grapes that I am not getting God of War, that I am not getting not even that specific game, but those types of games. Paris, am I off base? Why is this focus?
Destin Legarie
No, I think you're, I think you're, I think you're spot on. I, I think you're, you're nailing it. I mean, look, let's. The reality of this, I think everything that Phil has talked about, about, hey, let's get games on more platforms and I don't want to, you know, limit a creator and all that. I think he's genuine in what he's saying, but I do think the financials has, has accelerated that vision to get to where we are.
Greg Miller
Sure.
Destin Legarie
To the point where, and I don't know if you had this in the story about the hardware question I asked him as well, because I straight up asked him, I go, well, if you're putting these games everywhere, why would I get an Xbox? You know? And his answer to that is, well, we're going to make the hardware unique enough and desirable enough that you would choose to buy the hardware versus we're going to make you buy it to play our games. Which is fair, I get it. But let's see that play out in practice. Let's see, whenever they announce this thing, what is it going to be? How is it going to be priced that I go, you know what? Even though I can't play Nintendo or PlayStation games on this, I'm still going to go buy it because I want an Xbox versus why am I buying this? Because I can just go play all your games on my Switch or on my PlayStation.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah, yeah. But, like, I think for me, I hear that. I'm like, good, right? Like, if you want to play your Xbox game on your PlayStation or Xbox game on your PC or, you know, every screen is an Xbox. Now, I feel like that all feeds into the same ecosystem. That all feeds into the same strategy. Like, if I'm Phil Spencer, I hear that and I'm like, yeah, like, that's what we want. We don't necessarily want you to buy the box. Right. Like, I think the fascinating thing of. I forget who was having this conversation last week. I think Paris might have joined on in on the conversation of the idea of an Xbox os. Whereas, like, yeah, you can buy a. I. I think this is something I put in chat during the conversation of. We recently got the Asus Rog allies.
Greg Miller
Yeah, right.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
And I boot mine up and it booted up right into Windows. And, you know, immediately I'm like, oh, man, it'd be great if I could boot this right up into Steam os, which I'm sure. I know I can set it up that way, but, like, if Xbox had no S that I could boot right into from whatever piece of hardware that I'm rocking. That sounds like so much the dream to me as far as what the future of Xbox could be.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Destin Legarie
And I asked him about that, and I mean, he's. For all intents and purposes, that's where they're headed.
Greg Miller
That's.
Destin Legarie
That's. I think that's the future of what we're going to see. Between what he's talked about with Jason, Ronald just talked about at ces, which we'll see more of later this year, they're going to create a custom version of Windows, slash Xbox OS that is simplified, like Steam os, that you're pressing a button, you're into the quote, unquote, Xbox experience. But then if you need a desktop mode, that is going to be available too, which, you know, he also alluded to about the open platform thing. He's not shy about talking about that either. I do think you're going to be able to have other digital stores on whatever. Whatever. Their next hardware is going to be insane.
Greg Miller
That'd be fucking awesome.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah.
Greg Miller
And that's where it gets really interesting. Right? Like, right this morning, I got in early because I went to the dentist. That's right, everybody.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Whoa.
Greg Miller
I can breathe through my teeth.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Wow.
Greg Miller
Get that. You know, you don't Floss.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I do okay.
Greg Miller
Over time. And so it's chipped in.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
When was the last time you went to the dentist?
Greg Miller
Six months ago.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Oh, okay. No, just the fact that much of a difference of like you could breathe through your teeth.
Greg Miller
My teeth are real tight. That's one of the things. So I floss, you know, it doesn't matter. Anyways, I'm back with that. I was here early. I unpacked Razer. Razer sent me the Razer Blade 18 laptop. I had to look at it. I put it in Assets too. They sent me a loaner. I'm getting ready to hit the road this weekend for a preview event somewhere and then going to another going to the WWE event, Royal Rumble out in Indianapolis. And as you know, review season is just fucking all the time now. All the time. It doesn't stop. So I have a couple PC games I'm reviewing or a couple games that only available on PC at the moment that I'm reviewing. And so I was like, huh? And I hit them. I'm like, hey, do you nice. A lap. I'd like to try like that version of it. Right? So anyways though, where I'm driving with this because I haven't gotten any hands on yet with the Razer Blade 18, but thank you for sending it. Razer. This is not a sponsorship. This is just them being cool. But I got on there, right, and immediately installed Xbox, right? The. And it's like getting in there and immediately installing two time game of the year winner slash nominee, you know, depending where you are. Starfield. The second time, Barrett, I think it was Greg Miller. I need you to do me a favor. Just turn off your mic.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
He said, greg Miller. And then he said, someone else.
Greg Miller
Someone else must have done it last.
Paris Lilly
He said, turn off his mic.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Right?
Greg Miller
Top 10. It was on my top 10 last year. That's close enough anyways, though, installed the Xbox app. All right. And it's like again, I'm always so impressed as the console noob. I am slob. I'm the slop. I'm the console slop guy, right? But like to get in there and be like, damn, this is such a slick interface. Xbox does UI so well. It's got my entire library there. It shows me right away you've put 140/whatever hours into Starfield. I'm like, fuck, yeah. You know, I mean, it's like I feel that ubiquitous thing. But then it is that idea of like even just having this laptop for 10 minutes on and be like, damn it. And I Loaded up one of the indie games I want to talk about. It loaded so much faster than my Steam deck. And it's like, fuck, why not just do this? And then it's like, well, I'm just doing this. Why do the console? Right? Because there's an HDMI out and all this other stuff. But I'm talking crazy. There's no trophies on it.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Is first still here?
Greg Miller
No.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Oh, never mind Paris, that was silly. He had a work off by the.
Greg Miller
Time he did some real work. You know what I mean?
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I mean he's out here playing games. He's out here doing the. Doing the hardest work.
Greg Miller
No, he's not.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I don't know. I'm roasting my own job.
Greg Miller
Should I bring him in or you got more to say on this one thing? Because we're still talking Xbox bringing the X2 story. Let's bring in. Now that Paris is gone, we can actually compliment him. Number two on the Roper report, Phil Spencer confirms Xbox will support Switch 2. Quote, I congratulated Nintendo's president. This is Andy Robinson at VGC. Microsoft's gaming CEO has praised Nintendo Switch 2 and said it plans to support the upcoming platform with ports of Xbox games. Nintendo finally announced the new Switch earlier this month, and although no games have officially been announced for the platform, Xbox teams are said to be prepping multiple releases, including Diablo 4, the Master Chief Collection, and Microsoft Flight Simulator. Microsoft's newly acquired Activision has also committed to releasing Call of duty games on Switch 2 via its agreement with the FTC, speaking in a new interview with Gamertag Radio published on Friday. Of course, this is their 200th episode, right?
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Oh, let's count, I believe.
Greg Miller
Yeah. VGC just did 100. I think Gamertag did 200. Kind of. Don't even chat me if I'm wrong.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Hasn't Gamertag Radio been around for like two decades?
Greg Miller
Yeah, that's why. That's why as I say it, I'm like, that is it episode 500. That is all right. 200. It must have been 200.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
It might be 600. Let me look this up.
Greg Miller
Anyways, Danny and Paris interviewed Paris. It was great. Or I interviewed Danny, Paris interviewed Paris, they interviewed Phil. It was great. Oh, it's 20 years. Thank you. That's what I got. The 20 on the brain. Thank you. For their 20th anniversary podcast, Spencer confirmed Xbox would be supporting the platform and said he'd exchanged messages with Nintendo's president following the Switch 2's reveal. Quote, I was exchanging emails with Furukawa san and the CEO of Nintendo. I gave him a big congrats and said my old eyes appreciate the larger screen Nintendo, their innovation and what they mean in this industry. I just always applaud the moves that they make. They did a little Flash video and I know we'll get more detail over time. I'm really looking forward to supporting them with the games that we have and I just think they're a really important part of the industry. He added, quote, it's hard with what's publicly out there right now for everybody to get their heads around it. But who would ever bet against the success of that team? They are just masterful in what they do. Switch is a massive success and I think Switch 2 will be as well.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Can I say something about Phil Spencer?
Greg Miller
I'd love to hear something. I hope it's what I want to say about Phil Spencer.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I think in regards to how he talks about like vision and how he talks about like other platforms and talks about video games, I don't think anybody does it better than Phil Spencer. I think Phil Spencer is like as far as the front facing being able to I think speak to like other parts of the industry that not like Xbox either doesn't touch, right. Or Xbox, I guess, you know, wanting to put games on, on, on Nintendo. The way he talks about like man, my eyes are going to love the bigger screen. Can't wait to support them with the games that we got. I love it. Like, I think that stuff is, I think that stuff is absolutely awesome. I know we've complimented Phil Spencer for years and like we've also like you know, criticized. Criticized. Right. And like I talk about front facing stuff specifically because I know on the business side there are things that we can sit here and all day talk about when you want to talk about layoffs and all these things. Right. But like, you know, I, I, I think he's really great at speaking to these parts of the industry and one day he's going to be gone, right? Somebody's going to replace him. And I think when that happens, I think a lot of us are going to miss Phil Spencer in this role because like I think he's going to be replaced by some or not replaced. But like I guess when he leaves I think somebody's going to fill in the shoes that's still going to fill in the, fill in the shoes that's still going to do all the same business shit. They're still going to lay off people. They're still going to do like, they're still going to struggle with all this Xbox shit, right? But like, I don't know if anybody is going to be able to speak to things like this as well as Phil Spencer does.
Paris Lilly
Sure, I have a prediction. It'll be Jim Ryan.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Whoa.
Greg Miller
Say nothing about being a gamer. Somehow pivot to his cats. What I wanted to say about this, of course, is that you know what a marvelous weekend of Phil Spencer news, right? You got Destin, you got Danny, you got Paris, you got these two great shows, these great interviews. Can you throw up? I tossed the Lincoln for Gamertag Radio's version. But if you have Destin's, toss that up there. What I want to talk about is just how good Phil Spencer looks. You know what I mean? Don't get me wrong, Phil Spencer's never been a big boy like me, but he was a bigger boy for sure. Like, he is definitely losing weight.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Oh, he is.
Greg Miller
He's definitely shedding the pounds and looking good. So congratulations to you on that, Phil Spencer. You know what I mean? Paris, you still look like a jabroni. That's what I'm.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
You don't think it's the stress?
Greg Miller
Oh, it easily could be. We were going through photos for something this and I'm looking at myself before. Not even like it's just life, but it's like when Ben was a baby and how brown my beard was and how just gray I am. It sucked it out of me. What an Xbox focused show. And I appreciate it. I want to do some super chats here in the Xbox vein because we're talking so much about Phil and his amazing interviews, mainly the hosts. What's going on here? Oh oh, God, that. You know, sometimes you read a super Chat, you're like, wait, where are you going with this is not a bad at all. Last week we lost kind of funny's beloved human trafficker. I was like, what the fuck? Oh, it's a Watto joke. They're making a Watto joke. We'll get back to you. We'll get back to you. Jesus. Vol says it will never make sense for PlayStation games to go to Xbox. Why help last place PlayStation games on Xbox instantly make Xbox with game pass the best place to play in all caps. Your argument makes sense for the now Volk Dasher, but it is that conversation, I think great, great change here, by the way. It is that conversation of when those tides do shift. Yeah. And when all of a sudden we are. We've been predicting forever. A console is future. That eventually it'll happen. And as Xbox becomes just a fucking screen. Anywhere is just PlayStation catch up to that. Can they catch up to. They need to. They make obviously playstations until they're dying breath. But when they finally see that they're just getting such a low return on PlayStation consoles, that's when you'd see them push the games everywhere.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah, I think that is for the short term. Sure. Right. I will never say never. I think in the next five years. Yeah. Like, I don't see PlayStation.
Greg Miller
Sure. Yeah. Our next console life cycle is happening. We're getting a PlayStation 6.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
But I think too, if we're speaking to what we've theorized as far as, yeah, Xbox everywhere, Xbox os. Yeah. Like if the Xbox console business becomes so, like, not as important as like the Xbox ecosystem business, I could see the argument to where PlayStation gets to the point where, you know, they get the PC sales, they get the PlayStation sales and they look at those numbers and go, ah, God of War, whatever the next one is, is still too expensive. How do we get some more money out of this? Oh, man. Looks like this Xbox thing is doing really well as far as being able to pick up any hardware and play Xbox on it. Yeah, sure. Like, let's see if we can get.
Greg Miller
There Also, you know, Paris Lilly was just on here talking about the hardware stuff and talking about the OS stuff and making the prediction. Right. That Xbox's next console, he thinks will boot other storefronts. Okay.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah.
Greg Miller
If it boots steam. And I can now play Spider man and Spider Man 2 and God of War on my Xbox is PlayStation cutting off their nose despite their face at this point. And you know what I mean? Like, yeah, okay, like obviously there's the games I just referenced. There's a big window usually before they come out from PlayStation. There's but like what about Helldivers 2? Like hell, let's just say Helldivers 3 is launching day in day on PlayStation 6 and PC because it works so well this one. But the Xbox can run Steam. So then what's the point? Why did we just do this? Why are we then locking out people who are still using the console box or whatever?
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
The only reason why it doesn't make sense right now for PlayStation games come out on Xbox is because of PlayStation strategy and Xbox is still perceived as a direct competitor. Yeah, right. I think once you move towards that of boot up any OS on your Xbox hardware or on your Microsoft hardware, maybe like maybe they drop the like Xbox thing for the hardware and keep it more so Microsoft to find a new name, right. And like have it be the Xbox OS or Xbox ecosystem or whatever it is. The more they go toward that direction, the less of a direct competitor they are to PlayStation and the more PlayStation might look at them and see money bags and go wait a second, like this makes sense for us now, right? Like I think that could happen. I think the only, the only company right now to where I'm like, oh man, I don't know if I could ever see it at this point is Nintendo like Nintendo putting their games out on a PlayStation or an Xbox and like again, never say never. Maybe 20 years from now there's going to be some shift.
Greg Miller
Let me bring this question in Golden Spider super chat that says with the possible Xbox OS, PlayStation games coming to PC, et cetera, do you think we'll eventually get to the point where there are no consoles, just Sega like developers Nintendo and PC. Interesting that Golden Spider's keeping Nintendo in there, right? Because even in that foreseeable, but maybe further out future of consoles fully going away to some degree, I would see Nintendo bite down and keep going longer because as I've always said, not as an insult, but it's just how I see it. I don't think Nintendo necessarily looks at themselves as a video game company. I think they look at themselves as a toy company. Or at least that's what's the mindset that's influenced so many of their devices and the games that come to them. So I could see that even when PlayStation waves the white flag and is like cool, we're just third party publishing, we're putting it on PC which would in this world future we're talking about B Xbox as well, right? Xbox is just a brand and an app or whatever. It's not like an actual thing. Maybe it's still is.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I think PlayStation is gonna hit those crossroads where they are gonna have to choose between maybe having to like go the Xbox direction because video games on this business is so volatile or go the Nintendo side of. All right. Like we are a toy company also. Right.
Greg Miller
See, I don't think they got the juice for it and you know how much I love PlayStation. This isn't a knock at the PlayStation but I just don't think even right now as we look with PlayStation 5 and we just did the topics last week of like is this the worst generation? What's going on? Like people need games and need lineups and da da da da. And I just think as we get into a of possible future as we're talking about because Neon Mara says Windows 8 was made for tablets. Xbox OS could be that right. Is we're so talking about Xbox OS being able to take over a Raj ally and how amazing that would be as we're talking about Paris hypothesizing that the next Xbox would be yes, we're making Xbox games but it also boots other systems which I assume means fucking Steam and whatever League and Blizzard and all sort of whatever you get to that like at that point, two exclusives a year from PlayStation that's going to speak to us the hardest of hardcore gamers but not the general public where they can look at it be like I can get game pass and unlimited games and all this stuff and have one box that does pretty much everything.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I think they could do it if I think it might take some refinement of what the current output is currently. Right. Like I think we're seeing. Yeah, last year was a bit slow. This upcoming year might be slow. Although like Ghost of Yote and Death rating too. Plus like maybe Marathon or whatever like that could. That it could pick up this year, I think. But I do think that you're going to have to pick up the pace and that might mean that it is what we talk about all what we've talked about a lot of. Hey, not every game needs to be 20, 30 hours. Like maybe we are going more of the Uncharted Lost Legacy route. Maybe we're going the Spider Man Miles Morales route for some of these games so that we can put maybe we are looking at Team Sobe as the blueprint for PlayStation studios that aren't Sony Santa Monica or Naughty Dog. That way we can get out more games and like to the way that you put it of like, you know, Nintendo was the toy company, Microsoft I guess we would call like OS or like you know, tech company, right? Like I think PlayStation, PlayStation part Sony can be the IP company, like they can be the. All right, we got that stuff. But then on the hardware side like there is an ecosystem that is there that like I think can be solidified and can hold for it and go no, like we figured this out. I think the thing about it that's made it tough this generation are there have been big swings that just didn't hit. Therefore it feels like things are missing, right? PSVR2 came out and a lot of resources went to PSVR2 and man, I don't like if PSVR2 was something different that works we would be talking about this PlayStation hardware lineup. It's like something special because we got of course the PlayStation hardware, PS5 Pro, PlayStation Portal, right? We got the earbuds that I love, you got the PlayStation poles. Explorer or Explorers are the ones I love but you got the pulse Elites. I like if PSVR2 either hit and was really really good or PSVR2 instead was the actual Sony handheld that we want or is like some other thing. I think there is something there that could work long term for them.
Greg Miller
And see, I don't think you're wrong but I think it's short term versus long term. I think short term that would work for them and make a really interesting case. But here's the problem is that PlayStations Achilles heel is, is that they are owned by Sony, they have a parent company and they have a board of invest, they have shareholders, they have people breathing on their necks. And so somebody said it earlier and it was in the public chat, it went by but there's the conversation of consoles are never going to go away, they're just going to become more niche. And I assure you niche is not what Sony wants. If Sony sees the PlayStation brand as a console maker and as a profit margin getting smaller and smaller and smaller, they are gonna pull the fucking plug on being exclusive. They're gonna pull the plug on losing money on hardware, they're gonna pull the plug on being exclusive and say put those games everywhere. We've lost that, we need that money. That's just how all of these corporations and businesses work. I think Nintendo gets around it because they're Nintendo and they are the kind of company that is, oh, we did better. Here's more money for our employees.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
We're trying to take care of like you know, sells 50 million, right? Like these Games that don't have the budget of a God of war Ragnarok are outselling God of war Ragnarok by like double at least. Right? Like Nintendo has something special in that regard. And I think that might end up being the struggle of again like you might have to figure out how to reallocate. Not reallocate, but I guess like adjust those budgets to then maybe. And it's the tough thing of I can. It's the advice that I can never give. As somebody who doesn't make video games and like just watches the business, I can't look at PlayStation and go, Ah, you know, just make Animal Crossing. Just make a Mario. Like that is such a. Like Disney, like they, they have found the sauce of what Nintendo has done that I cannot look at Sony or Xbox or anybody else be like, I'll just replicate that. But they kind of have to figure out how to replicate that at least to some extent, I think. Because I think those budgets had to lower a little bit and those like those game sales, I don't know, like, have to be able to make up for like whatever financial, like financial discrepancy. I don't know that's the right word. But the thing there that, that I think is the struggle right now for how the video game industry has gone.
Greg Miller
Sure. Flip the USB twice. Super Chat it says, has Phil Spencer been a good thing for Xbox and the gaming industry since he became the head of Xbox in 2014? It seems like he's been more destructive than good. This is a conversation that we had when there was the round of studio closures and layoffs, when hi Fi rushes developer went away and all that of like what is Phil's legacy and blah blah, blah. I think to I, has Phil been a good thing for Xbox? Yes. If they hadn't changed course and put fill in, I don't think Xbox would be here right now, period. I just think when you look back at the launch of the Xbox One, Don Mattrick, the way he was running the company, this isn't a knock against that man who I don't know, but I just mean the choices that were made there. And it's not going to play used games. It's going to the cloud. Like, no, that was the wrong call. Maybe it was. It was too ahead of its time in terms of, you know, a primary unit and your Xbox account being in the cloud and stuff. Like there was a lot of interesting ideas there that Orange has accepted today when there they were, you know, rallied against. But if they hadn't Reversed decisions and made a bunch of different changes and put Phil Spencer in there, who was literally the guy of like, I play games. I enjoy video games. I play, like, I can talk to you as a peer as well as somebody who's running Xbox. And yes, that still leads to, you know, the double speak people want to crucify him for. All the time of saying this and then having to lay people off or saying that, and then the game is exclusive. I get that. For some people, it's hard to understand that this is a river and it's constantly flowing and you have to change and adapt and do stuff. Which means that what you said six months, two years ago isn't going to be how you are right now. But no, I definitely. Phil Spencer has been a good thing for Xbox. I do not think Xbox would be here if it wasn't for him.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah, that's a tough question for me to answer without being Dr. Strange and being able to peer into different universes of like, oh, instead, what if Don Matrick had continued. At the very least, I'll say I think Phil Spencer is better for Xbox than if Don Mattrick continued to be the head of Xbox and push in that direction. But like, I think as far as perception, as far as, like, speaking to audience and all that stuff and like, being a vocal leader and all that stuff, I think, yeah.
Greg Miller
Giving it an identity.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah. Like, I think all that stuff is good. But again, like, I. To. To the Activision Blizzard acquisition and how. I think that's dominoed into gigantic amounts of layoffs. Right. Which is also compounded by the state of the industry and compounded by what happens when you acquire any company, let alone a company like a company that big. I think there's that in. I don't know, there's so much. So many, I guess, like, choices of things that happen behind closed doors that we. That I can't speak to, of course, because I just don't know. Right. Of like, all right, if that didn't happen, what would Xbox be now? Right. Like, people have, like, what, A lot of people might still have their jobs or not. Because maybe Activision would have fucked things anyway and, like, laid off all these people anyway. Yeah.
Greg Miller
Like, oh, they would have.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
It's so impossible. It's such an impossible question to answer for me.
Greg Miller
Yeah, of course. Let me get through a quick. A couple of quick ones and get back to the news here. Mr. Nice Guy Rice says my. Let's end here actually for right now. Mr. Nice Guy Rye super chats. My Xbox has Been unplugged for two years. After the Dev direct and the Spencer interviews this past week, it is plugged back in. Excited for April. Well, I hope you play Starfield.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah.
Greg Miller
Because you missed it.
Paris Lilly
This is kind of play better games, you know, play Indiana Jones.
Greg Miller
Okay.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Or play everything else that's coming out this year. Like I. This will lead into the next couple news stories. But I was thinking about this over the weekend. I was playing. I was like streaming and playing first Berserker Kuan which I want to talk about during the games cast after this.
Greg Miller
Oh yeah.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
And got into a conversation about Xbox and the rest of the year for Xbox and to like to the super chatter who said like yeah, my Xbox has been unplugged. Right. Like I look at my Xbox rap for last year in the highest played game was Hellblade 2, a game that was six and a half hours long. And I looked at the first half of this year for Xbox and it's crazy how strong this first half is. That's like Xbox is like my number one platform for the first half of this year as far as what exclusives look like. And I'm very excited for. Yeah, avowed. Very excited for Doom. I'm very excited for south of Midnight. You know, like the list goes on. Even like Xbox is looking very, very strong for 2024 so far or 2025 so far and maybe even stronger.
Greg Miller
Let's move on to number three on the ROPA report. Gears of War E Day has a co developer People Can Fly. This is a press release. People Can Fly is thrilled to be working on Gears of War E Day, the next mainline game in the renowned Gears of War series. As a co with the coalition, we are honored to return to the world of Gears of War, a franchise deeply embedded in our studio's history. As lead developer of the iconic Gears of War judgment and co development partners on Gears of War one through three, we have always been passionate about the series and its legacy. Quote Returning to collaborate on the next chapter of this legendary saga is both a privilege and an exciting opportunity to build on the intense visceral action and rich storytelling that fans have come to love. We are deeply grateful for our partners trust and support in this journey. End quote. Said People Can Fly CEO Sebastian Wozniak. Nope. Whoa. Jakowski. There we go.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
There you go.
Greg Miller
Cool.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Cool. Not much to say about it. I think the only interesting thing to say about this is Xbox's continued strategy of partnering their first party developers with third parties to work on one project. Right. Like the same thing is happening with Perfect Dark, I believe, where they're working Crystal Dynamics, and I think there have been other examples of this I can't think of off the top of my head, but I'm very fascinated about this. Like, I'm sure Phil has probably talked about this in interviews, but I want to find the answers of like, what inspired this? Like, why is this such a consistent thing among you? And also like, how does this help? Is this a thing that other developers need to do? Right? Like, does this help with cost and scope and all these things?
Greg Miller
You figure, yeah, get them across the finish line, right? Hopefully take away some of the stuff they've been not busy work. That's not what you want to say, but a support thing, right? To keep you focused on whatever the main mission is with the main drive.
Paris Lilly
Of your studio is relating to the next story. I do wonder why I announced this now. Like, why wasn't this announced, like closer to when E Day was announced or something like that? I do wonder where in development Gears of War is. Yeah, because hearing this now makes me feel like this game isn't coming out this year. But maybe I'm wrong in feeling that.
Greg Miller
Number four, Gears of War, E Day and Oblivion remake are out sooner than expected, say Rumors this is Michael Beckworth over at Metro. After a solid developer direct from Microsoft, two Xbox games that weren't mentioned are still rumored for this year. It's still early days, but 2025 could very well be a banner year for Microsoft and the Xbox brand if last week's Developer Direct showcase is anything to go by. Combined with previously promised games like Fable, it looks like we could be seeing a Microsoft published game almost every month, especially if two major releases also drop this year, as has been rumored. The first of these is the alleged remake of Bethesda's the Elder Scrolls Oblivion. Rumors of its existence first emerged in 2023, but they've picked up in the last month with suggestions it's aiming for a 2025 launch. In his own rundown. At the recent developer direct, the Verge is Tom Warren claimed to have first heard of it himself sometime last year, claiming that Microsoft is aiming for either a late spring or early summer release, Warren refers to it as a remaster instead of a remake, making it unclear just how much of an overhaul it will be, especially as the two terms are often confused even by those in the industry. Assuming Warren's claims are correct about its intended release, will hopefully be able to get some concrete answers from Microsoft in the coming months. The second game is Gears of War E Day, a prequel announced at last year's Xbox Summer Showcase and the first mainline entry in Microsoft shooter series since 2019's Gears 5. Despite the reveal trailer's lack of gameplay or any indication of a launch window, Warren claimed last year that Microsoft was aiming for a 2025 release, a detail he has repeated this month. Blessing, are we getting Oblivion and E Day this year?
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Oblivion. I could see it. E Day. I wouldn't be surprised if E Day is planned for this year, but maybe push targeting. Yeah. Targeting 2025 maybe pushes into 2026. Because, like, when you think of the second half of the year for Xbox, right. Like, most of the developer direct was stuff for first half. Second half, we're getting Ninja Gaiden 4, which is really cool. Right. And that is being published by Xbox in partnership with the studios working on that. Koei Tecmo, Team Ninja. But, like, outside of that, what are the expectations out of Worlds 2? Still. Is still announced for 2025. Do we see that?
Greg Miller
Which is more than these games, right? Where it's like, you know, so there's claims about where these games are. Outer Worlds 2 had the data.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
2025.
Paris Lilly
So, like, isn't fable at least slated for 25 or that was.
Greg Miller
Did we ever. Did the last. Did that last Fable trailer.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah, look it up. Because I don't think it was, but I think the expectation.
Greg Miller
Keep saying that.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah, because I remember talking.
Greg Miller
I don't think that's this year.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I think it was like either Mike or somebody talking about it. I was like, really? I don't feel like it's coming out this year, but maybe it. Maybe it is.
Paris Lilly
Oh, wait.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Actually, this is from the showcase last year. Okay.
Paris Lilly
At the end here, I want to believe.
Greg Miller
I want to believe.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Here's the thing.
Greg Miller
I don't believe it, but I want to believe with both Nick. I want to believe with both Fable. Thanks, Nick.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
With both Fable and Outer Worlds 2 dated for 2025 or targeting 24. 25, I don't think Gears award. E Day is coming out. 2025. You saved that for 2020.
Greg Miller
Dominoes.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Dominoes.
Greg Miller
They got these dominoes lined up.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
You can't play to put all three of those games out in 2025. Oblivion I see is a small thing. Oblivion, I think might be just like a. A shadow launch, especially with like an.
Greg Miller
SGF shadow drop, maybe.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah.
Greg Miller
No way.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Really? You think Oblivion? Because here's the thing. I get the vibe Tom Warren called it a remaster. Yeah.
Paris Lilly
If it's a remastered that. That can be a day and drop.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah, I think they just shit that out.
Greg Miller
My thing about that one is, I feel like that is the first time in a long, long, long time where you're talking about a remaster of a game that I only know Tale of Oblivion.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
You know, it's not Skyrim.
Greg Miller
I'm in. Let's go. No, I'm for a remaster of that. Like, I'm updated. Whatever.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Give me Fallout 3. That's the thing that. I'm really excited.
Greg Miller
Come on. Of course. Come on, New Vegas. Come on. What are we talking about?
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
How many of us are going to play oblivion for 2? A day and a half and go. Oh, man. All right, cool. This is older Skyrim. And then move on and play something else.
Greg Miller
You know, you're not wrong. You're not wrong. I don't know.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Not that. And I don't want to. I don't want to take away from the importance of Oblivion, all that stuff, because I know it's a very important game. And, like, you know, like, Elder Scrolls has, like, such a big fan base, but Oblivion doesn't strike me as the one that's like, everybody, stop. The Oblivion remasters out. Like, we got to clear our plans, take the day off work. Play Oblivion Remaster. It's like, no, man, put it out. You know, we'll play.
Greg Miller
I just feel like. I hear you, that it's not that event, but I still think that there's enough juice out of that, that it's more than just. It's out. Whatever. I think. I think you do a preview event. You get IGN and GameSpot and everybody to go play and be like, oh, it is updated. It's cool. And if you've only heard stories about how great it is, it's even better.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
See if it's a remake. I think so.
Paris Lilly
Yeah. If it's a remaster, what do you need to.
Greg Miller
My thing.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
You ain't sending me to LA to play a remaster.
Greg Miller
Yeah, you love what I do.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Anytime you want to send me, I'll go see.
Greg Miller
I. I think it's going to be. It's got. You're not wrong, but I think I'm expecting more than just a remaster. I know Tom Warren says it's just remaster. I mean, I like how they're already trying to backtrack the articles. Like, people get the words wrong all the time. Maybe Tom got them wrong.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I don't know. The article sounds like there's copium. Yeah, it sounds like copium. 1,000%.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
But, like, and I could see, I mean, the article is somewhat right, though, as far as there's become. There's a spectrum now when it comes to remaster to remake. So I could see it being maybe like in the Metroid prime thing of. All right, it's. It is a remaster. But, like, they fine tune some things. Like they up. It's 4K now, you know, 60fps, 120fps in that thing.
Paris Lilly
You're literally just saying things that a remaster would have.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
You're right. You're actually right. Yeah.
Greg Miller
Golden Spider super chats and says, man, if Oblivion remake does happen, the Sky Bolivian team is going to be so mad. Over a decade of work to get overshadowed. That is the mod they're working on, right, For Skyrim to make it into Oblivion. I think I got that right. I've seen people talking in the chat about it and yes, that would suck for them. I would. I would not be happy for them.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
It happens.
Greg Miller
Number five on the Roper Report. Another Resident Evil film reboot is in the works. This is Sophie McAvoy over at Gamesindustry Biz. A movie reboot of Resident Evil is in the works, with four studios reportedly bidding for the film, including Warner Brothers and Netflix. This is according to the Hollywood Reporter, which reports that Zach Cragger is attached to direct following the success of his 2022 directorial debut, Barbarian. I remember that. I like the movie. A horror film that he also wrote. Constantin Films is reportedly producing the film alongside PlayStation Productions. Constantine films has held the rights to Capcom's franchise since the late 1990s, having produced the original film series starring Milla Jovovich. Of course, I know Constantine film well because I watched George A. Romero's Romero's Resident Evil documentary the other day, where they went through all this and how these people kind of got into a tiff with him and everything else. According to sources, Cragger's reboot will be, quote, a revamp that will take the title to its horror roots and more faithful to the initial games, which date back to 1996.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Constantine film has held the film rights to Resident Evil since the late 1990s. How they let that happen, that seems like it. Like, I found Capcom, like, like, when you watch the documentary, is there anything else they said about Constantine?
Greg Miller
Like, yeah, they went through their other films and whatever. I don't remember any of that. None of them were like, amazing.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
That seems like a bad business decision from.
Greg Miller
Yeah, but I mean, like, you say that, but then let's look at fucking Marvel and All the weird shit they've had to do to try to get Spider man still with Sony and, you know, they had to wait for Fantastic Four to expire. Like, you make the. I mean, in the 1990s you signed some lifetime agreement. Yeah, there you go. Go for it. Right?
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
It's like, I guess good for Constantine films, Resident Evil back then. Like being able to put out a billion of these movies and stuff. Like, good for them. Also. Barbarian. I'm with you. Fantastic film.
Greg Miller
Charlie in the chat says they lose rights if they don't put something out. Three to four years, I believe. Hence why we get so many. There you go.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
You got to get on the ground floor of like an ip, but now the jig's up.
Greg Miller
Like, who are we gonna get?
Paris Lilly
Yeah, we got into capitalism too late.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah, we gotta like, look at these indie developers, you know? Like, we gotta find a really good.
Greg Miller
Game with a really stupid developer. Mike Biffle.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Ooh, I like. But he only does other IPs, though.
Greg Miller
Yeah, he just started doing that recently.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
What was that? Solitaire conspiracy.
Greg Miller
Yeah, that's crap. Don't get that one. Thomas was alone. That could be a kid's cartoon. Real easy. His breakout thing. It was just shapes.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Do you think we can like get a deal to where every. As long as we put something out every four years, we keep the film rights forever.
Greg Miller
Sure.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
And we grow it into something big.
Greg Miller
Sure. Yeah. Okay.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
And like cut him in on like a 2%, but yeah, he gets money. He'll get money, but like very small compared to us.
Greg Miller
There's something there.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah, I like something there.
Greg Miller
What about Ariel Knight?
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Oh, get the Never Yield franchise. Star in it.
Greg Miller
Yeah, exactly.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I like it.
Greg Miller
I wonder why I like number six on the rope report. Ubisoft announces studio closure as it lays off 185 staff members. This is Tom Phillips at Eurogamer. Ubisoft is set to close its UK studio based in Leamington as it sheds 185 jobs across the business. A small number of Leamington staff will be retained under remote contracts. Additionally, Ubisoft offices in Dusseldorf, formerly Blue Byte Stockholm and the Newcastle based Ubisoft Reflections will be downsized quote. As part of our ongoing efforts to prioritize projects and reduce costs that ensure long term stability at Ubisoft. We've announced targeted restructurings at Ubisoft Dusseldorf, Ubisoft Stockholm and Ubisoft Reflections and the permanent closure of Ubisoft Leamington site of Ubisoft Worksource instead. Unfortunately, this should impact 185 employees overall, we are deeply grateful for their contributions and are committed to supporting them through this transition. End quote. In its heyday under its previous ownership by Activision, Leamington was best known for its DJ Hero games before it was put to work on the publisher's Guitar Hero and Call of Duty franchises. Ubisoft then acquired the firm in 2017. Thanks.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Damn.
Greg Miller
I don't think this is the end for Ubisoft. People getting laid off closers as they try to figure this out and find a way forward in a very competitive market.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah. Quote, as part of our ongoing. This part that you did read. But as part of our ongoing efforts to prioritize projects and reduce costs and ensure long term stability at Ubisoft, I wonder how much of it also is like, hey, we're trying to sell this. Like we're trying to figure out.
Greg Miller
Oh, that's definitely what the long term deal is, right?
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
So that sucks. Hate to see it. Also, yeah, like rest in peace to the studio that yeah, made the DJ Hero games. Fucking love DJ Hero. Yeah, played the shit out of DJ Hero. I wish they'd make a new one. I understand why there will never be a new DJ Hero. We got Fuser, which is kind of close, but very close.
Greg Miller
Very close.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Love DJ Hero.
Greg Miller
Boo. That's sad. Layoffs are always sad.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yeah.
Greg Miller
They're also big news.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Yep, huge.
Greg Miller
Plus, if I wanted something smaller, maybe happier, where would I go?
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
You'd go to our last news story, the WE News channel where we cover all the small news items you need to know about.
Greg Miller
Number seven on the ROFR report. We news us physical game spend has halved since 2021. Andy Robinson at the VGC reported on it. Matt Piscatella tweeted about it. Andy's report goes US spending on physical games has more than halved since 2021. According to New data from the market research firm Circana. Sega has re registered the trademark for Skies of Arcadia and the Japanese name Eternal Arcadia. Former Gearbox Publishing staff has established the new publisher Cooldown Games. Monster Hunter now is having a Lunar New Year celebration event and everybody come hang out. It's great. I was playing this morning. I'm out there doing my thing.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Good for you.
Greg Miller
I'm on now playing over the weekend, getting my stuff in there. Getting very excited because February there's the event where it's gonna do stuff in now that'll get me stuff in wilds. I'm all about it because it's about to be Monster Hunter month next month. You know what I'M saying Rise of the Ronin is coming to Steam on March 10, 2025 and Hogwarts Legacy PC Modding Update and Creator Kit is coming January 30.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I do want to shout out that the SEGA registering the trademark for Skies of Arcadia. Big news, but also one of those ones that I feel like me and you don't have anything to say about. So I do want to shout out I understand that that is like big news for people out there. If Tim Geddes was here, I would talk about it more.
Greg Miller
I saw over on Blue Sky, Reb Valentine kind of willed it into existence, I guess in the in recent times she's put up some screenshot was like remaster it or remake it or something like that. And then I saw her quote to you this morning like, I have powers. Good for you.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
If you had more time, I'd be like, let's watch a trailer or something, learn about Skies of Arcadia.
Greg Miller
Put on a. Put on a 20 minute deep dive into Skies of Arcadia.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
You know what? I'm going to Google Skies Arcadia right now. I'll report back.
Greg Miller

Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Guess what platform Skies of Arcadia released on.
Greg Miller
I mean, there's been a million of them, right? So I mean, I'm talking About the.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
First one, NES Dreamcast, the 2000 roleplay or year 2000 role playing video game developed by Overworks and published by SEGA for the Dreamcast.
Greg Miller
Norman Super Chats and says Greg, I watched Before Sunrise for the first time last week and loved it. We need the before trilogy in review. From your mouth to Tim Getty's ears on his deathbed. I'm making it happen. I'm talking about it on Instagram right now. I'm all about it. We're going to make the before trilogy happen in review. No one will watch it. No one will watch it, but we'll do whatever.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.

Greg Miller
Neon says, good day from Australia. Blessing. Have you seen the Nier Automata anime? I highly recommend it. It exceeded my expectations.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I saw the first episode when it was first coming out. Didn't stick with it. But, like, I'm waiting for when. I'm feeling really nostalgic for Nier Automata because one of these days is like, I'm gonna have the feeling of, oh, man, I want to replay Nier Automata, but I don't have the time. Then I'll watch the anime.
Greg Miller
Perfect. Oral Sanchez writes in and says, last week we lost Kind of Funny's beloved human trafficker. Watto was killed and is now flapping his wings in heaven. Can we get a sad Annie? There's only, like. There's no. There's no sad version of it. I'm glad they made it canon, personally, because they showed it this time around Darth Vader killing Watto. But it had been alluded to another comic series that Darth Vader had killed.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
What do you mean they showed it this time around?
Greg Miller
They. The comic came out, whatever, and there's like a page and it's like the reflection of Watto getting killed in Darth.
Paris Lilly
Vader's Advisor, but they show it. But I'm pretty sure in the context of the comic, it's like a theory that is shown of, like, maybe Vader came back here and he fucking better have.
Greg Miller
Okay, I'm a good guy, and you give me force powers and I'm probably killing a few people that, like, just cross me, you know?
Paris Lilly
But at that point, he'd already seen him in Attack of the Clones and he saw just like.
Greg Miller
Yeah, but that's when he was still eating shit. At some point when you become Darth Vader, like, you know what? I'm done eating now. I'm just gonna choke people and kill them.
Paris Lilly
No, but he already saw that water was like living a miserable life. It's like, why would he waste energy on it?
Greg Miller
I hate that.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Back of the box for Skies of Arcadia. Full 3D world with highly imaginative storyline, beautifully detailed graphics and immersive gameplay. Customize your own airship with up to 22 crew members. Hold up. They might be cooking hand to hand. In ship to ship combat featuring spell effects and amazing special attacks. This sounds like Black Flag before Black Flag. Okay, but in the sky.
Greg Miller
Irk the Imp Super Chat says just because Xbox game is on PlayStation. Doesn't mean you get the quote unquote play anywhere of the save file transfers. Brownie emoji. Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I looked up that board game Coffee Rush. Looks cool. It sounds like the one I explained before.
Greg Miller
Okay.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
You're serving coffee to people.
Greg Miller
Okay. Oh, here. Demon Hacker says Resident Evil should be an eight episode series run by Mike Flanagan. I love Mike Flanagan.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I also love Mike Flanagan, but he.
Greg Miller
Doesn'T give me a zombie guy. But I wouldn't have said he was a vampire guy before.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
It would be a very different Resident Evil. I.
Greg Miller
Good one. Yeah, they make a good one for sure.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
But like, is Resident Evil supposed to be good for the story?
Greg Miller
Great point.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
For the story.
Greg Miller
You know, Demon hacker also says animal. Well, cartoon. Get that IP Blessing and Greg.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I feel like. I feel like we're too late. Yeah, we should have got that IP before it came out. Before people started to like realize that how good they were here.
Greg Miller
Remember they did the. They did the stream here. We could have gotten them there.
Blessing Adeoye Jr.
I'm looking up screenshots now. Sky Storcadia.

Kinda Funny Games Daily: Video Games News Podcast
Episode: Phil Spencer Talks Switch 2 Support, Starfield on PS5
Release Date: January 27, 2025
Hosts: Greg “GameOverGreggy” Miller, Tim Gettys, and Blessing Adeoye Jr.
Timestamp: [11:10]
The episode kicks off with an in-depth discussion about Phil Spencer, Xbox’s head, and his recent comments regarding Xbox’s strategy for expanding its game availability across platforms. Greg Miller cites Phil Spencer’s statement:
Phil Spencer: “No, there’s no specific game. There’s no reason for me to put a ring fence around any game and say this game will not go to a place where it will find players and have business success for us.”
This reflects Xbox's commitment to ensuring their games reach a broader audience beyond just Xbox and PC, hinting that titles like Starfield may become available on platforms such as PlayStation 5 in the future. Blessing Adeoye Jr. raises pertinent questions:
“Do you think Phil Spencer gets tired of saying the same thing over and over and over again?”
Greg responds by acknowledging Spencer’s likely fatigue but emphasizes the strategic importance of this cross-platform approach for Xbox's long-term success.
Timestamp: [14:51]
The conversation deepens into community perceptions of Phil Spencer. Blessing praises Spencer’s ability to communicate Xbox’s vision effectively:
“I don’t think anybody does it better than Phil Spencer... he’s really great at speaking to these parts of the industry.”
However, concerns are raised about the consistent strategy shifts and how it affects the Xbox community’s sense of ownership and loyalty. Destin Legarie contributes:
“Phil Spencer is being as crystal clear as he possibly can that with the no red lines thing he’s telling you, expect every Xbox game to eventually show up on another platform.”
Greg contemplates the potential future where Xbox transitions into an ecosystem-centric model, potentially diminishing the traditional console exclusivity model.
Timestamp: [45:08]
Moving to game developments, the hosts discuss the collaboration between Xbox and third-party developers. Greg highlights:
“People Can Fly is thrilled to be working on Gears of War E Day... we are honored to return to the world of Gears of War.”
The partnership aims to blend People Can Fly’s expertise with Xbox’s vision to rejuvenate the Gears of War franchise. Blessing inquires about the motivation behind such collaborations and how they benefit both developers and the gaming ecosystem.
Timestamp: [56:14]
A significant portion of the episode covers Ubisoft’s recent announcement to close its UK studio in Leamington, resulting in 185 layoffs. Greg reads the press release:
Ubisoft: “As part of our ongoing efforts to prioritize projects and reduce costs that ensure long term stability at Ubisoft.”
Blessing expresses disappointment over the closure, reminiscing about Ubisoft’s legacy with titles like DJ Hero. The hosts discuss the broader implications for Ubisoft and the industry, pondering how such moves affect game quality and developer morale.
Timestamp: [58:25]
The hosts then address market trends, noting a significant decline in physical game purchases:
“US spending on physical games has more than halved since 2021,” according to data from Circana reported by Andy Robinson at VGC.
Blessing touches on the shift towards digital distribution, discussing how it impacts both consumers and retailers. There’s a consensus that the industry must adapt to changing consumer behaviors to sustain growth.
Timestamp: [55:04]
A highlight of the episode is the announcement of a new Resident Evil film reboot. Greg shares details from Sophie McAvoy at GamesIndustry.biz:
Hollywood Reporter: “Zach Cragger is attached to direct following the success of his 2022 directorial debut, Barbarian.”
The reboot aims to return to the horror roots of the original games, with Cragger promising a more faithful adaptation. The hosts debate the potential success of this reboot, considering past collaborations between Capcom and film studios.
Timestamp: [60:03]
Beyond the major stories, the episode includes various tidbits such as Sega re-registering the trademark for Skies of Arcadia, Monster Hunter’s Lunar New Year event, and the upcoming release of Rise of the Ronin on Steam. The hosts also engage with Super Chats, addressing fan questions and comments about cross-platform gaming and personal anecdotes.
