A
I didn't mean to bring down the one shots. Just you said show your face. Discourtesy, your face, whatever. Over here, the wolf. Don. Dan. Don said I missed. I wish Tim was back. You all right? I do my best with the ads. All right? I'm sorry, everybody.
B
Were they complaining about the ads? I think you do great.
A
I know, I know. I'm just. I know I'm great.
C
But then Tim comes in at the end and, like, reminds everybody. Hey, man.
B
Hey.
C
I'm cool.
B
Nintendo cool.
A
Saw that baby this weekend.
B
Oh, yeah, She's a cutie. Wow.
A
Ben got to hold her. Big moment.
B
Wow. How's Tim doing?
A
We don't talk about that suffering. We don't talk about that. We don't need to talk about how Tim's doing. All right, everybody.
B
Oh, man.
A
He's there. He'll be back one day.
B
How's your weekend? You watch the Super Bowl?
A
No, we watched like the first. This is going to warm your heart. It's going to warm your cackles. All right, we. I would say we watched Jen for some reason. Want to turn it on? Which I thought was interesting. Like, yeah, sure. We turned it on. Like, just as everything was setting up. She got to see America the beautiful, whatever, blah, blah, blah. And then Ben's just like, wow. He's like, what is this? And I explained NFL. I explained the football. He's like, cool. Can we play Smash Brothers? I'm like, hell, yeah, we can.
B
Bam.
A
Let's go. Let's go. Right?
B
He's been playing a lot of Smash Bros.
A
Playing a lot Of Smash and redacted.
B
Redacted. Oh, that's fun.
A
But no, he's playing a lot of Smash Bros. He's kicking Mom's butt. That's great.
B
What character? Me?
A
Don't worry about that. He is very much in that Pokemon wheelhouse.
B
Okay.
A
He loves Lucario, so he's bringing Lucario number one untouchable Meta Knight. He wants to be Meta Knight. Loves metal.
B
Yeah.
A
Like, he'd like to be Kirby, but I don't think he fully understands Kirby. That's a lot to wrap your head around. The second blow is Nick could teach him. Uncle Nick will teach him eventually. But yeah, no, I would say number one, Meta Knight, number two, Lucario. Then he sees me. I only play links. So he's always trying to. He'll. He'll get in there using Link. Every time we unlock a new person with a sword, he'll go try them out to see if he likes that.
B
Does he know who Link is yet?
A
Like, as he knows Link from Zelda. Yeah, but he knows Link from Link's Awakening when that's the only one he. He's played that right handed in the controller and let him go with that one.
B
Does he get excited about the idea of all these characters coming together or is that now, is that a quaint thing now? Because everybody does the thing of, like, he.
A
He doesn't know how good he has it right where. I think it's that fun thing where Smash is introducing him to so many characters, where it is like, it's not so much the crazy crossover that he can wrap his head around, it's more the excitement of when somebody does pop. I mean, when Sonic popped up. Yeah. A challenger approaches, and it was Sonic. This kid lost his.
B
Oh, man. To relive that feel.
A
And he's like, oh, that was Knuckles in the background. I'm like, I know, I know. So he doesn't get that part of it, but he. He's learning his Nintendo heritage through it. So it was at one point, you know, we're going. He's like, daddy, you have him. And it was Samus. And I was like, I do, but do you want to know something crazy? And he's like, yeah, what? I'm like, I went down one time. I'm like, this woman with the blonde hair, that's Samus. He's like, what? I'm like, yeah, that's Samus out of her suit. It's like, that's cool. I'm like, I know, buddy.
B
I love that. I love that. Because that's how I feel like so many of us experienced smash 64. I know I did, right? Very, very young when that game. At least when I acquired that game. I don't even know when it came out, but when I was in high school.
A
So, like, 98, 99 right there.
B
Yeah. It must have been like five years old, six years old.
A
Yeah, sure.
B
Fuck, that hurts. But playing smash 64, like, that's how I learned about, I think, the vast majority of those characters, because I would have known Mario and Luigi, I would have known Pikachu and Jigglypuff, But I think all of the others, for the most part, I was like, oh, yeah, who's the same as character? They seem cool. Then I learned about Metroid.
A
Yeah. As a Sega kid, that was definitely how I learned so many of my Nintendo people.
B
Like, I saw. I remember unlocking Nest and being like, this is not a real character. Like, what am I doing here? And then, you know, know, years and years later, I finally play Earthbound, and I'm like, oh, this is such a special game. And I end up.
A
Yeah. We sat down at dinner last night, and he's like, dad, mom and I played an animal crossing today, and I went, oh, oh, you mean to Smash. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Of course you did. Yeah, yeah.
B
So cool.
A
He's good, though, too. It's disturbing. Yeah, yeah. I mean, don't be wrong. You'll beat the out of him.
B
Yeah. But, like, I. I like the idea of somebody coming in young and, like, learning the fighting game, like, fundamentals, 100%.
A
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
B
By the time he's my age.
A
Well, that was. I. Stop me if I've said this on content before. His channel would be too far behind. But what was interesting about it was when I introduced Smash to him, like, we showed him the trailers, and I was like, all right, we play this weekend. This is multiple weekends ago now. Now just afternoons on Saturday and Sunday, or Smash. It was like, cool, let's go. And we jumped back in and we played and played. And then we unlocked the first character because, as you made fun of me, right. I have nobody unlocked because I just play on Tim's all the time now I have nearly everybody, I imagine it was. We got in there and he's like, oh, can you. I'm explaining. You got to beat him. You know what I mean? But I'm like, I got it. Don't worry. And then it was like, kind of funny. Slash. IGN has broken me. Where for 20 years, I've only played Smash. Final Destination. No items so unlocking these motherfuckers, I mean multi tiered things. I'm falling off the world. I couldn't remember how to jump back. I'm like, all right, Ben. I'm like, ben, you and me got to go to the lab. We. I went, I reset the rules. I'm like, we're playing with items. We're playing on every stage. We gotta. It can't just be Final Destination Omega. It's gotta be. I gotta learn how to fucking play this game again.
B
Hell yeah, dude. Well, enough about that. Let's talk about today's gaming news stories because remember, this is kind of funny Games Daily. State of Play returns this Thursday. February on February 12th. This is from Tim Terry at PlayStation Blogaboo.
A
I gotta be. I'll be hosting the Dice Awards. Oh for some reason they, I don't know, we always like there's a rumored state of play. Everybody. It's never rumored again. Every dice for the last like as long as I've hosted I think has had a state of play. Yeah, there's always. Whenever Dice is, there will be a state of play.
B
I'm gonna read from Tim Terry PlayStation Blog. Tune in live this Thursday for a 60 plus minutes of news, gameplay updates and announcements from game studios across the globe. February State of Play will Spotlight eye catching, third party and indie games headed to PS5, along with the latest from teams at PlayStation Studios. State of Play broadcast live February 12th at 2:00pm Pacific Time.
A
Greg, we will be live reacting.
B
We will be live reacting to it. I got two questions for you. I got a more I guess serious question.
A
Okay.
B
And then also a not as serious question.
A
Okay.
B
Which one do you want?
A
Give me a serious question first. I love diving into those.
B
Serious question. I guess it's a serious question that's honestly not that serious. Do you think Nintendo and PlayStation they do you think they know each other's schedule? To a certain extent because every February you're always getting a direct and you're always getting a state of play. But they never, they never like intersect too strongly. We never get them on like the same week.
A
I don't. I wouldn't put it beyond the realm of possibility as somebody in Nintendo America and somebody Sony or PlayStation, you know, have a. Hey, you doing it again? Yeah, we're doing again. Cool. But I think it really is that PlayStation is. Have staked their claim on this date and it wouldn't be beneficial to Nintendo to go after them or vice versa for that matter. You know what I mean? To have two major people go for it. But I don't know. Yeah. Behind the scenes of when we talk.
B
It just happens so cleanly every single year.
A
Yeah.
B
It's always like one week we get the state of play the next year or vice versa. Right. The next week we get the direct.
A
I'm out of my wheelhouse on the Nintendo side of it. Right. Does Nintendo stick to the same schedule too?
B
It's every February.
A
Yeah, yeah. Because again, like the amount of times like I've. I remember watching last year's in the hotel room with Jen. Maybe it was two years ago if I'm playing.
B
You know what, Last year they might not have done February because of the Switch 2 stuff.
A
I'm talking about PlayStation. Oh, sorry. Sorry. Yeah. For the dice where it's like that. I remember seeing. I went to rehearsals one year and Andrea and Paris and a whole bunch of them were out there watching it on laptops or whatever. Like. Like it's such a. It's happening here. But I imagine Nintendo knows to steer around it even if they're not as consistent on. We're doing this day every time.
B
Yeah, you're correct.
C
Blessing. It seems they delayed it to. Or not. I don't know if it's delayed but.
B
They had it in March.
A
March.
C
End of March.
B
Yeah. That was because they were doing the last Switch one direct and then soon after they did the Switch to Reveal last year. But before that, Jen, generally you're getting them in February and that March one.
C
Was when they talked about not game Share but the weird like kind of new update with like cards. Like.
B
Yeah, the digital card stuff. Yeah. My other like is PlayStation showcase just dead. This is again the longest state of play we've had since the PS5 and Portal reveals.
A
Well, again, this is third party they're talking about. Right?
B
I mean they do say third party.
A
And indie game set to PlayStation along with the latest from team PlayStation 2. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
B
I mean it's been since what, 2023. We've had a proper showcase.
A
My thought would be this I can see it either way. But I would think If I'm at PlayStation, yes, for all intents and purposes, yes, it's dead if for some reason the stars align into. Maybe those stars are, you know, in a marketing boardroom that when we hit 2028, we want everything where you have a reason to come out and do that. But I would think the next one's going to be PS6 where it is like, here's the console, here's the launch lineup of games, here's why you're excited. Right. Otherwise, these. The state of play has a gravitas to it. It has an expectation to it, which I would say is higher than most directs. You think I'm incorrect on that one? Sure, I think. I mean, I'm expecting more from this than the third party direct we just got.
B
Oh yes.
A
And even I know we were disappointed with the third party direct. Even if you were to have said we don't know anything except there's going to be a third party directing a third party PlayStation. Andy. Whatever. I still go PlayStation. I expect to bring it more than Nintendo.
B
Yeah, yeah, I guess I still, I don't view this as a. I know they say third parties. I still view this as like a proper state of play. And I think a proper state of play versus a proper Nintendo direct, I still think do have the same amount of hype. I would say direct, maybe even a.
A
Little bit more legacy properties there. Yeah, exactly. Mario Zelda. What are we gonna get on that front?
B
Exactly. That said, like I'm. It being so long since we got a. A showcase. Yeah, fine with. Because the last showcase we got, I think was the one with all the most player games ended on, I think Marathon or Concord. It had Marathon, Concord and then also I think maybe ended on Spider Man 2 actually. But I remember coming out of that being like, all right, cool. I. I'm with you that I think if you're going to do it right, I think you just wait until PS6, until you have like a big deli.
A
Because again, I just don't think, I don't. I think for us, the nerdy birdies over here talking about video games every day and yada yada, knew the audience as well, you remember, I'll say to play. And this time the other PlayStation showcase. Yeah, this, that and the other. But everybody else who would carry a level below that understands what state of play is and gets excited for it. And again, you have a branding, you have a thing for it. Like, I wouldn't even surprise when they're like hey, we're going to reveal the PlayStation 6 and talk about that. If it wasn't even called PlayStation Showcase, it was just the PlayStation 6 reveal event. The Future of PlayStation event, whatever that effect.
B
Of course. If you're watching live, I want you guys to super chat in with what your predictions are for Thursday's state of play. But Greg, what are your predictions?
A
Well do. Hey, that was the serious question. What's the fun question?
B
I hit you with both of them. I'm sorry, I realized I mixed them up. Actually my not my non serious question was the Nintendo Direct plus state of play one. My more serious question was placed or state of play versus Showcase.
A
Got it.
B
Like are we not getting those anymore?
A
Got it. So what are we getting here? Yeah, well there are some easy no brainers. I think we get a good look at Soros gameplay again. Maybe it's just a hot trailer because we have had a game a thing up there. I probably think you open with that Rahul Kohli voiceover this, that other crazy ass cinematic cutscene mixed in with gameplay to set up the fact that this is coming in March now. Right. It's no longer February or whatever. So Mark. Or is it April? It moved. It moved.
B
Yeah, it might be April.
A
Right. I don't think you end on it but somewhere in there you get the reveal of Marathon. Right. That's March. So that is needs a push for it.
B
I want to back up to sorrows. Sorry, we just get a trailer. We don't get any new thing announced for it.
A
No, no, no, no. Just we're pushing the release date. Push the preorder bonus whatever of the exclusive. Whatever. I'm sure there's a what Digital edition something or other that I'm getting.
C
Maybe a controller design for it.
A
Yeah, I can see that. I could see that. I like a good call. Good call. Yeah.
B
I was gonna say you get a tease of like post launch co op mode or like a challenge tower something to be like hey, there's gonna be something for you here a month after this game.
A
Interesting. Yeah, I think they don't.
B
I mean just because I'm comparing it in my head to the way they did Ghost the ote with announcing legends is like the final thing.
A
Yeah.
B
Because I feel like we've seen, we've seen so much of Sorrows that I don't know what just another trailer that's like.
A
I mean that's what I think this trailer is just cinematic crazy ass gameplay. Release date, cut inner, you know, interspliced or Whatever there is you go through to just remind people, this is April. This is the last state of play you'll see before we get there. Pre order now. Yeah, I get the bonus.
B
Fair enough.
A
Maybe there's some stinger at the end that teases Co op. That's not bad. You get a still frame. Yeah. The controller at the end, like bear.
B
I like that.
A
I like that too. Then I think you have to have Marathon in there. I don't think it's the closer, but I think you have Marathon in there.
B
What do we see for Marathon? Just like a final push of, hey, this game is out. Because this is the one that is out in.
A
Yeah. And that's. Yeah, I do think it is. I don't know what exactly you show for Marathon. I have not been following Marathon closely enough to even tell you anymore what it is, but I. Maybe this is this. I think with that in mind, this might be a nice. Hey, everybody, I'm Joe Blow from Bungie and Marathon's coming out next month. And like, just a quick little dev thing. We've been working hard and here's the latest trait, like, you know, humanize the developers, drive home the release date, show why you should care and play with your friends.
B
I can see it being like maybe even a little bit more extended.
A
Yeah.
B
I wouldn't be surprised if we're hanging out with Marathon for maybe eight minutes. I know that's long for a state of play, but for 60 minutes though.
A
Or 60 plus, right?
C
Yeah.
B
Right. I think the reason why you would maybe extended that long is because, hey, this, our next big live service game is about to drop in a month. This is one that actually does have a little bit of steam behind it. I know it's been a rocky last, I guess, few years for Marathon, especially last year, but last I checked, it seems like there's hype for Marathon.
A
Oh, really?
B
It seems.
A
Chad, are you hyped for Marathon? Let me know. And this isn't. I'm not arguing against.
B
Oh, for sure, for sure. Yeah, Chad, let us know. Because I, at least on the side of the Internet that I'm on, I've seen more and more people show some excitement and maybe that's just a mixture of it.
A
Okay, good.
B
Lucky. Still, maybe it is Arc raiders creating some goodwill about these types of games. Right. But yeah, I think. I think this is the time to strike. I think you do an extended thing, you show the hypest trailer possible. Yeah, I think you get a trailer that is. Oh, shit, I gotta play this. And to Your point? Yeah. What you're saying like let the devs get the last arguments in for why you need to play marathon.
A
Yeah. What I think that, I think again was, you know, the PlayStation studios, you, that you get there. I think people immediately jump to Intergalactic. Oh my God. A reveal from Bend. Oh my God. I think it's more this stuff. I think it's. I think it's Soros, I think it's marathon. And I think another no brainer is Helldivers. I think Hell Divers is out there with something else. They're still going. They just put tanks in there. Right. People were talking about that last week. There's always something else coming to Helldivers, whether it be a War Bond or another expansion, et cetera, et cetera. And then to push. So those are the, I think the easy slam dunks for first party, right. PlayStation Studios the other. And I am stealing this from our conversation at the direction. I think a slam dunk easy one is you're going to get that Resident Evil demo. Yeah, I think that's going to happen 100%.
C
Yeah. Shot here. Now I accidentally showed this earlier, but think about this thing about this.
A
We've bought Ubisoft.
C
No, not Ubisoft, but the thing about, you know, a game like Prince of Persia, the Lost Crown. Now instead of this prince, man, think Kratos.
B
Oh, you son of a bitch. I had it written down here. Oh yeah, no, God. I think for sure the God of War 2.5 is going to get announced.
A
That'd be exciting. That'd be huge.
B
Yeah. That was rumored for most of last.
A
So that closes the show.
B
That's a really good question.
A
I think Returnal opens Bungee Marathon somewhere. I'm sorry.
B
Yes, Returnal.
A
Thank you very much. Yeah, yeah. Sorrows.
B
Whatever.
A
Rahul. Rahul opens. You know what I mean? He's walking.
B
Do we get Rahul on camera? No, that'd be sick. That'd be a nice thing.
A
Oh, bruv, it's me.
B
Exactly what it sounds like.
A
I know, right then, then I think, yeah, you. If you're putting that God of War game out, you're closing on the God of War game. Yeah, yeah. When does that come out? You think, you think they put a date on that? Do we get any shadow drops?
B
I don't think shadow dropped. No, I do think they put a date on it because I also think for my. I wrote down like bullet pointed predictions. I think you need to start talking about release dates for things that are happening in 2026 and I think that's another. That's another thing. To the length of the state of play. PlayStation surprisingly does have a lot happening this year. And so, yeah, this God of War game that was rumored last year, seemingly was supposed to drop last year, got pushed into this year internally. Right. Like, yeah, I think you're gonna get a release date for it. I say summer.
A
Okay.
B
I don't think it's imminent. And I also think, as PlayStation, you want to make sure you're creating a good timeline of a Runway here. Yeah, a Runway. Because you're gonna get marathon next month, month after, you're gonna get sorrows. Right? Like, you don't have to. You don't have to drop that much in the next couple of months. I think you can do Wolverine trailer with the release date.
A
Oh. Oh, okay.
B
I mean, it's either gonna happen here or in summer, but, I mean, I think now's the time to talk about it as far as, like, trying to lay out a few more details than you did before.
A
Okay. Okay. Yeah. I mean, what you figured this trailer would, I imagine, would be. Well, it goes two ways. Do you think this trailer, if it is real, which I want it to be, but I don't know if I believe the trailer is either. Hey, everybody, I'm Marcus from Insomniac. Excited work on Wolverine. Here's your first look at real gameplay. And he won't say real gameplay, but here's your first look at a level, and it is Logan on the phone, crushing the thing going off. It goes from cinematic into the thing. He starts like. And then you get to the end, and it's some huge villain cameo, whatever, you know? I mean, it is that. It's like, Logan, don't do it in terms of Professor X and boom, PlayStation and then release date. That's hot.
B
Yeah, I like that a lot. The only thing I'm struggling with, and I'm struggling with my own prediction here, is that if you show all that here, what do you show in summer? I mean, like, is it better to wait till the summer to show all of that and then just have a shorter thing with a. With a villain reveal?
A
It's that idea where I think, sadly, we're gonna see a lot of Wolverine. Yeah, I'd like to see as little as possible, but I think you're gonna see a lot. And so I think you start standing up those beats. Right. Where, again, when is this game coming out? Right. We assume they're giving GTA all the buffer it needs, so we're aiming for September, we'll say. Right. So at that point I think it makes sense to do that here. Then I think your next big beat for Wolverine sgf, some kind of trailer there. But I think that trailer is.
B
You can play hands on too.
A
Yeah. For prep. Yeah, you're right, you're right. Yeah, time that out. Probably the SGF trailer is going to be just fucking action. I don't think that's as extensive as a look. And then I would say after that you get a Comic Con panel where they're doing something Marvel games related and having Marcus and Liam out there to talk about it or whatever. And so it's not that many big beats. You're right. PlayStation does love their hands on previews. Thank God still. So yeah, that would be mixed in and I guess, yeah, that would probably time out theoretically before sgf. You know, maybe that is something you do. It may. So maybe it's also maybe maybe Wolverine does get its own state of play at some point. But I mean I don't want to see more. But I know everybody wants to like so like we have to go into what are the upgrades? How are you. You know, how do we make Wolverine. How do we make Logan your own. You know what I mean? How are you telling your own story through all this blood and destruction and.
B
But the more I think about it, I think the more those big gameplay details, like those minute gameplay details are talked about alongside hands on, you know what I mean? Like.
A
Well, yeah, I think the state of play for Wolverine though could be that.
B
Oh for sure.
A
That ends in embargo goes up or something that effect.
B
So yeah, I think to that. I think. I mean I think we could see more gameplay. I just don't know if it's going to be that much. I think, I think a character reveal this week is more likely. Yeah, like some. I forget how. What other X Men characters, if any other.
A
They're all B listers right now. Nobody gives.
B
Yeah, maybe you've seen it seems like.
A
Oh, it's red guy. I don't know who the he's talking about. I don't know.
B
Basketball kid.
A
Oh man. Basketball kid. We pop for though.
B
Speaking of Marvel.
A
Marvel.
B
Marvel took on fighting souls that appears here, I think in a new character and a possible release date. Again, same conversations. Wolverine here for release date for me.
A
Okay, okay, okay. But like you're. Where are we at with that? When I took that in the league, you were like, oof. I wouldn't have done that, Greg.
B
Only because they did the gameplay beta recently and it seemed like a lot of the hardcore fighting game fans weren't over the moon about it, but, like, playing it myself, it's quality. Right? Like, I don't think the reviews are going to be bad for it or anything. I just don't know if it's going to be like, this is the end. I'll be all like, you know, 90.
A
Do you think. Yeah, they're able to turn it around or like, from that beta that didn't go.
B
Oh, for sure. Yeah. That's the. I think that's the exact reason why they're doing these betas, is taking the feedback, so I think they can. It's just that there is so much feedback that, like, maybe I could see if it. If it's more than what they anticipated. I could see this thing pushing into early 2027, I think for sure, we know this isn't first half of this year for the fact that it's not at evo. And so, like, we're talking cap design's awesome. We're talking about second half. And I think at that point, depending on how much they want to do with it, maybe gets pushed, but still, I'm leaning on it comes out later this year.
A
Okay. Interesting one.
B
Yeah.
A
Do you think we get a trailer for Outer Worlds 2 here? Oh, not. I'm sorry, Avowed. Avowed. Avowed is the one.
B
I was gonna say. I was like an outer world to announce.
A
Be like, that's weird. Yeah. Avowed is the one that's coming up imminently next week. Oh, yeah.
B
Maybe a short thing.
A
Yeah, Yeah.
B
I think if there is a trailer, it'll either be in a montage or it'll be like a very short trailer.
A
Sure, sure.
B
I think V might get another thing for Horizon Hunters Gathering. Get another short trailer.
A
Yeah, that makes sense. We're talking straight to the PlayStation audience. Here's the reminder. Here's a hot little trailer. 60 seconds. And then here's the go sign up on the PlayStation beta thing or whatever.
B
And here's the date of the beta as well.
C
What do you think is the mindset of to have that not saved for the state of play?
B
Right.
A
You needed to talk about it more. You know what I mean? Where we get. Think about how long that presentation was and then think about how long the state of play is already. Like, when you're debuting a game that's outside of the wheelhouse of what an established IP slash property is, I think you really need to stop everybody and be like, hey, here's what we're doing. Especially because even the way they presented it I thought was well done of like we are still committed to single player games. You're still going to get another Horizon 3. But we needed to explain what this cartoony co op game is.
B
Gotcha.
C
I didn't.
B
Sorry.
C
I didn't realize there was like a full on like 10 minute thing.
A
Yeah, yeah. It was in depth. Yeah.
B
My now my half court shot. My it's out now goes to Yotei Legends. I think we get ghostly ot Legend.
A
We need information on it for sure.
B
Yeah. I forget if they had a window in the trailer that we got back during Gamescom, but that seems like a game that should be dropping. I'll say in the first half of the year.
A
That needs to be out by summer.
B
Yes. That.
A
That feels like that is one of those games that I feel like should be shipping in that first week of June. Like it should be one of those where it's in this coughs beating your ass. No, it's not. It's not. It's not. It's not beating my ass. I swear. It's not that it's not. I'm whatever. I got the post needs a little drip, you know.
B
Oh.
A
One of them was like this is triggering the cough. But I'm not coughing. Anyways. This needs to be in that Last of Us window. Last of Us of course famously came out when we were all headed to E3. We're like this fucking sucks. We all want to play Last of Us. I feel like that's what you do here right before sgf. Like here it is. Here's this game. It's summer vacation. Play with your friends. Do this whole thing. Get into it.
B
See I. I think for some reason I. I've had the expectations of this game coming out by spring.
C
Right.
B
Goes oh like interesting.
A
What.
B
And but like what makes it tough is that again next month we're getting marathon. The month after you're getting sorrows. I think right now there's a nice little Runway if you can. If you can sneak it out to be like hey y'. All. So you big new update.
A
So I mean would you shadow drop that Legends? Yeah.
B
Yeah. Oh yeah. Because I think. Remind me how they did it last time. Did they shadow drop it last time? I feel like we got it very shortly after we knew about its exist existence. I think you just shadow drop.
A
I can't remember how they did Legends. I thought it was. I think it was like an announcement and then yeah, it was quick. It wasn't Shadow. And I don't even know if this counts as a shadow since I already talked about it, but you know what I mean.
B
Sure, sure, sure.
A
But we're on the same page of interesting. Okay.
B
Yeah. And also, like, I. I think what it is is that I'm comparing it to how they did it with Ghost of Tsushima, where Ghost of Tsushima came out in July and I want to say by August, early September, we got Legends. It was only a. A month or two turnover till we got that. I don't think you wait till too long to put out Legends. Because I don't. You don't want people to get cold on yote or like, you know, enough people have moved on. Right. Like, I think now's the. Now's the time to strike with it.
A
Fair enough. Yeah. What do you. What do you read into the Indies? They make third party and Indies. Is this Mina the Hollower?
B
We got a super chat. Oh, from. Well, actually, before you get into the super chat, what are you.
C
So Ghost of Sushima came out late July. Legends came out October.
B
October there was. That's like three, two, three months. Three months. We got a super chat in and I got a scroll for it.
A
They're making you work for it.
B
Here we go. Rockstar in training writes in and says, is there any chance in hell we see Little Devil Inside or is that game dead? Remember Little Devil Inside?
A
Yeah, I do. When's the last time we heard about.
B
Is that the. Is that the. I mean, they. I think they closed out a state of play years ago.
C
Jesus Christ.
B
Little Double Inside. Is that the last game from the PS5 reveal that we've yet to get?
A
Jesus Christ. Really?
C
The last trailer we got game was announced only a year ago is from Game Spot trailer.
B
Wait, really? I do not remember that trailer. But yeah, what else for Indies. Hades two.
A
Oh, yeah, yeah.
B
That's a good point. Out on Switch, but not out on other consoles.
A
Switching PC. I think Mina Hollower has a shot. Shovel Knight Devs. Why not?
B
I've given up on predicting me to the Hollow. I understand.
A
Oh, I mean, it's falling into that Team Cherry Hollow Knight thing, right? Yeah, like, well, it's got to be there somewhere.
B
I'm trying to think of what else for indies.
A
Yeah, I know. Well, it's so hard, right? There's just such a vast pool. Let me throw up a mop.
C
Not an exciting one, but just you bringing up Team Cherry. Maybe like a reminder of like, hey, we put up the kind of next gen patch for OG Hollow Knight.
B
Oh, yeah. Sure, sure. Yeah. I'm looking on my 2026 games I'm anticipating list to see if there's any. I mean, I know Xbox had a big thing for mouse PI for hire. Do you think PlayStation wants to hop. Hop on that?
A
I don't know. I think that Xbox put their flag, so. Oh, sorry. So well on that one they stick with it. What about replaced?
B
See, I still shake that with Xbox also.
A
Okay.
B
Yeah. Because they. I believe they had their debut in next box.
A
Yeah. But you know, money talks that games coming out in March as well. Right.
B
Do we know that's coming out for PlayStation?
A
That's a great question. I don't know actually at that point. I'm just looking at my Steam Wishlist now. So it's all starting to run together.
B
A lot of people are saying Starfield PS5 in chat.
A
I mean your mouth to God's ears, everybody. That is one that has to come to PlayStation. Right. Like, you know what I mean? But I still stand by like, you're not wrong. Right. I think in the same way you're getting avowed on PlayStation with all the. The new game plus updates. Right. That's also coming to Xbox. I feel that's gonna be the same thing when Starfield does its next expansion that they keep talking about or rumoring, whatever. Right. Of like, hey, here's Star Point as some people or Starfield. Some people say 2.0. You'd go there and put it there. Mixtape is a fan. Fantastic.
C
Finally getting a date maybe.
A
Fantastic fucking call on mixtape being there, actually. Barrett, I love that. This reminds me. Of course there was a mixtape event in la. Yeah, we set, man. We sent Madeline Stanley, of course, the scream queen of screams, as Mike calls her, because she likes horror games. I like that.
B
Yeah, that's good. That's good.
A
I have a whole bunch of photos I need to put up on Instagram for the kind of funny thing because she sent me a whole bunch of stuff.
B
Oh, cool.
A
Yeah.
B
One I'll bring in. We got a lot of super chats, by the way. Yeah, everybody super chatting. So let's talk about them. Z O VGM writes in and says, what about the Venom game that leaked a few years back? I feel like that thing is dead. If it doesn't finally appear here, it's not going to appear here. You know, I don't think you announced and show off Venom before Wolverine comes out.
A
100.
B
And also I also don't know if that game exists.
A
Yeah, also true. Also true. Yeah.
B
Dexter Morgan writes in and says final Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Sequel trailer. I don't know if I believe it.
A
You want to believe though.
B
I mean, I would like to believe. I just don't know if this feels like the right place for it.
C
Shout out to Jason Vanelli, who friend of the show, posted this this morning because Hamaguchi did say we'll Hear more about FF7 Remake Part 3 this year than ever before.
A
Wow.
C
Than ever before.
B
We didn't hear anything before, but more than ever before you could say the words Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 and that's enough. That's more than what we heard before about it. I feel like that's a summer thing. I feel like, I mean, I think it appears at a state of play, but I think that state of play.
A
You know, I think it's Jeff thing. Could Jeff get it?
B
Maybe.
A
Okay.
B
I feel like they're so inconsistent with how they announced The Final Fantasy 7. Rebirth was announced just at a Final Fantasy 7 like showcase thing.
A
Yeah.
B
And like me and Tim barely expected it.
A
Right.
B
So like, I think it could appear anywhere for the fact that it's a PlayStation exclusive thing. I think it makes sense for State of play. But also. Yeah, I, I, I wouldn't be surprised if Jeff somehow got it too.
A
People are popping off for Metal Gear Solid Collection Volume two. I'd lose my mind.
B
Dexter Schwarzer writes in and says Kojima posted him editing something so DS2 DLC or OD announcement. Also, Wolverine will get its own state of play in July slash August. Love you guys. I mean, not OD because OD is an Xbox exclusive thing. Death Training 2 DLC. I don't even know what that looks like.
A
Yeah. Fizzing new fizzing trailer.
B
Yeah. They're like, oh, the PS6 is so far away. We're just gonna make it a PS5 game. Verum Dex says show us a 10 second Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer of the rotary phone from the screenshots ringing and it'll be cinema. I'm desperate. I'm desperate for anything at this point. LOL. Kingdom Hearts 4. What does that do for you?
A
Nothing. Yeah, I mean, I know people want to go get it. I hope it's there for you. I hope you're excited.
B
I hope. I refuse to believe Kingdom Hearts for is showing up anywhere until it shows up. Sure.
A
I can't predict a smart way to do it. Yeah. Looking back at the state of play from last year. Directive 80 20.
B
Oh.
A
Remember, not exciting. But it's, it's one. I'm looking at the list of games.
B
They had there exciting for me.
A
Oh, I mean like. No, no, me too. But I mean like for the general. I don't know. We're bringing another year. But you could drop that and put a real release date on it that you're going to hit. Maybe. I like that. Do you think we see Sony Ben's next game?
B
No, because they restarted not that long ago. I know Norm Chacho says eventually they have to tell us what Sony Santa Monica is working on. Right. It's been three and a half years.
A
Since Ragnarok, your 2D action.
B
Oh, yeah, it's. Yeah, it's going to be the 2D thing. Limited says there's supposed to be a marathon free weekend before launch. I would guess State of Play drops the date for that. Yeah.
A
Yeah. Another thing I'm seeing is people talking about Monster Hunter Wilds getting an expansion.
B
Okay.
A
I feel like they are, you know, they are pushing the final update for Monster Hunter Wilds. Just live or it's about to happen. I forget where we are on the timeline. I think it's February. Barrett, if you could Google that would make sense to get that out or not even get it out, but depending on what Barrett's about to tell me. Talk about the fact that the final update is out and then, yeah, here's the next expansion coming this summer slash winter.
C
Sorry, what am I looking up for.
A
Monster Hunter Wild's final expansion? Here it is. Don't it? Krabby patty got me 218 February 18th. So again, that would line up of, hey, the final update is coming on Monster Hunter, but we have something else, something more. And it's a tease of a giant expansion in whatever new biome Aaron Lime says.
B
Team Asobi. Ape Escape. Tease, please. Something not M rated. Lol. Oh, I see what they're saying here. They're saying that all the PlayStation stuff is M rated. I mean, I would love anything. Team of Sobi. You know what? I wouldn't even be surprised if we got a Team of Sobey thing.
A
Okay.
B
Even if it's not like Astrobot. I actually don't expect Ape Escape by any means. But they work so quickly and they're so like. They're what we asked for out of a game studio. Right? They're contained. They are. They're quick. Their games aren't these massive magnum opuses. If they're able to have like a two year turnaround and be like, hey, here's something small. It's not even like, not even Astrobot level, just something smaller than that. That's like here as an experiment for us. I think that'd be cool.
A
I agree. I would like that. Again, looking back through last year's state of play, what could come down, Double down. Tides of Annihilation. Yeah, coming with a release day for Tides of Annihilation.
B
Oh, winter release date.
A
No, come in with a release date.
B
Oh, coming with ICIC. Yeah, I could see it.
A
I mean, WWE 2K25 was there last year.
B
Oh, yeah.
A
2K26 will be there again with the Island. Let's see what you got.
B
Triple H shows up.
A
Have you heard about the presidential fitness?
B
The Sean 28 writes in and says, do you think there's any truth to DMC6? A lot of people on the Internet streets. Oh, really, have been talking about Devil May Cry since I've seen this rumor. Maybe this is another one where I'll believe it when I see it. I'd be excited for it.
A
Sure.
B
Devil May Cry 5 was announced on an Xbox thing, but of course it's Capcom. I feel like Capcom and PlayStation have a good synergistic.
A
Very close. Very, very close. That makes sense. I mean, you know, we're talking about Resident Evil getting a demo, and we're talking about Monster Hunter getting expansion here.
B
David N writes in and says, is God of war also on PC? Switch, like a Lego Horizon, talking about the 2D game.
A
Interesting.
C
That could be interesting. Get it to a broader audience, especially as you're ramping up to the show.
A
Yeah. I'll only go as far as PC, but even that I don't fully buy. I think especially with. Is not. I know this is. I don't want to wait in the actual argument, but like the mainstream argument that PlayStation hasn't had as many exclusives or reasons for you to own a PlayStation 5 this year, or, I mean, this generation. I think you protect that and then maybe what you do is you. If this happens, you're putting it on PlayStation, like we said in the next few months, and then when the God of War show debuts, maybe that's when you put it on PC. I. I have maybe Switch too.
B
I have two thoughts, one of them being that I think LEGO Horizons fits so well on Switch because of how much of a family game it is. And like, it's co op.
C
Right.
B
It's multiplayer.
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah. So I think that for me, makes more sense than I imagine. A God of War Greek game is still going to be like the violent God of War thing.
A
Yeah.
B
And so that's my first thought. My second thought would be coming from Sony Santa Monica, Low key. I'd be very interested to see what a High Fidelity 2D Metroidvania looks like.
A
For sure.
C
Yeah.
B
You know, I feel like we don't get that that often of like a team that. That made God of War Ragnarok. Right. Like a really gorgeous PS5 video game and PS4, I think also, but really gorgeous video game. I'd love to see them push the tech on like what a 2D metroidvania is. You don't see that that often.
C
Interesting, because in my head, like whenever they talk about this or like when we've talked about this game before, in my head, they're going with like a different art style, almost sure to fit more of a 2.5 D. Not thinking of the hyper realistic stuff that you think about with the modern God of war games.
A
Fair. Fair. I agree with that. But I still think it looks stunning.
B
All right, I'm gonna. I'm gonna fit in one more here.
A
One more, everybody.
B
One more. I'm looking for a good one, actually. I like this one from ak who writes in and says who's hyped for the Fair Games Shadow Drop. Do we see Fair Games at this?
A
No Fair Games. It's just a matter of time before they announce Haven's fully closed. That game's canceled.
B
How? How. Why have they not announced it yet?
A
I don't know.
B
Do you think they're still trying? Do you think they're still like, people.
A
Still working at Fair Games? Yeah. Or I mean, at a Haven. So. Yeah, somebody's doing something over there. Trying to find the fun.
B
Yeah.
A
Until they're like, we couldn't find the fun.
B
Fair Games.
A
Fair Games. Fair Games everywhere. That is tough.
B
Well, those are our predictions for this Thursday state of play. I'm sad you're gonna be there. We're gonna miss you.
A
I know. I hate not being there for it. But then it also is fun to watch you guys.
B
Oh, yeah. Who's left here? Is it gonna be what, me, Andy and Mike. Roger.
A
Roger. Yeah.
B
Okay. No, that's actually. That's a good four quartet. Can we have. Let's have Mike host it. I don't want to host it. I want to relax.
A
Okay, I'll do that right now.

One year and we're back with story number two. Sources say don't expect Horizon Zero Dawn 3 anytime soon. No Shocking at Kotaku last week, Guerrilla Games revealed the multiplayer game it's been working on. The project is called Horizon Hunters Gathering and it's a tactical co op action game that looks like someone someone repainted the Horizon universe with a Fortnite brush. It's the third?
A
Yeah, we throw around. Oh, it's everything Fortnite. It looks like a cartoon. What the fuck?
B
It's the third Horizon game that's been announced since Horizon Forbidden west released, and fans are beginning to wonder what's going on with the next mainline sequel in the open world RPG series. Sources tell Kotaku it's still a ways off and not the studio's top focus right now. While Horizon Hunters Gathering might seem like just another side project, it's actually the main game many at the Dutch studio are working on right now, two sources familiar with the state of the franchise told us. According to one source, many of the staff according but many of the staff working on Horizon Zero Dawn 3 were pulled off to help with Horizon Hunter's gathering, which Sony is committed to making a multiplayer success. Another source suggested fans might not see the next true aloy adventure for three to five years, which would make it a PlayStation 6 game, though it could still appear on PS5 as a cross gen release. This lines up with similar reporting by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, who wrote last week that he believed most of Guerrilla was working on Horizon Hunters Gathering, and The launch of HZD3 was not close. One source said Horizon Hunters Gathering plays very well and is a lot of fun, but it'll have a lot to prove. Greg yeah, does this sadden?
A
You know, sadly it doesn't. The end the cliffhanger of Vanilla Horizon Forbidden west left me so like, oh really? Yeah, like I'm not excited. I'm not excited for three in the same way. Honestly, I think at the end of Horizon Zero Dawn, I really wasn't like, oh, I need to come back. Like I thought Horizon Zero dawn ended so beautifully sitting on that couch. You know what I mean? Like I was like, ah, this is really nice and I thought it was a great closing. So when they were like we're coming back from where I was like okay. And then I did not think they stuck the landing of the ending. That was a really rushed third act. They rushed through some really cool beats in story, things I think they could have done. I thought Burning Shores was great. I like the introduction of I forget the character's name. Seka Seika. That's right. And so that was cool. So I'm when they are ready to say hey, there's more Horizon, I'm excited to see what it is and excited to play it. But not like I am champing at the bed. I have to right now.
B
What does Horizon three need to do? Because like I feel wrap this up. There's a similar sentiment, I feel like, across maybe. Maybe it's more focused on, like, hardcore fans or PlayStation fans or whatever. But I see a lot of people I think feel similarly as far as, like, all right, like, I'm kind of. I'm not as excited. Jazzed about the Horizon series, but the numbers don't reflect that, obviously.
A
Honestly, what I think is very interesting is. And I'm gonna go out on a limb here, everyone's gonna get angry.
B
Oh, yeah, make us mad, Greg.
A
Horizon for video games feels a lot like Avatar for movies, where I really don't bump into Avatar fans ever. You know what I mean? But the fucking. The game. The movies are the most successful movies of all time.
B
Like, a lot of normies fuck with.
A
900 more of these things are coming or whatever.
C
Exactly.
A
And Horizon's the same way. We're like, I really enjoy Horizon. Like, I. I enjoy playing those games, but I. I'm not Ride or die, Alo.
C
Ah.
A
You know what I mean? Okay. Yeah, sure. Okay, I gotcha.
B
Yeah. It's so weird because I feel like all of the pieces are there for me, and I. And I say this. Horizon Zero Dawn. I liked. Fine. I would even fall in love with Horizon Zero Dawn. Yeah. Horizon. Forbidden West. I really, really liked. I came out of that being like, yo, that was fantastic. I have all the same complaints that you do.
A
Yeah.
B
I think some of the story stuff didn't resonate as much with me.
A
Carrie Ann Moss. Yeah. Trinity.
B
And the whole Carrie Anne Moss side of things in the game. I'm like, what are we doing? Like, what's going on here? And then y cliffhanger that they left off of, I was like, I'm. I'm not mad at the cliffhanger. I think I'm more so mad at, like, being surrounding it. You know what I mean? Because I'm looking forward to the big threat that they introduced. I like the idea of, like, something's coming. I'm always down for any. Any ending of anything that's like, something's coming and it's scary. But, yeah, they left off in a place where I was kind of like, all right, cool, but wrap up the story we're in.
A
Yeah.
B
You know, it felt too focused on what's next as opposed to giving me a satisfying ending right here, right now.
A
And I hate that. That's, like, one of my not number one complaints. But it's the same way I feel about the second Spider Verse movie.
B
Oh, yeah.
A
And, like, how long? And it's. It's very similar now to waiting for the game. Like, how long am I waiting for this next fucking movie? Chris Anka.
C
Yeah, the, the, the second game, the stuff that they introduce feels like it's not a deus ex machina where something like magically appears to save the day, but it feels like, like a threat magically appears at the very end to kind of give stakes when there weren't a lot of stakes for the. The rest of it outside of what we were doing. Yeah, it's. It's kind of a mess.
B
Yeah. But all that said, right, when I think of Horizon and the things I love about Horizon, again, it has all the things I want for the most part. It has a, in my opinion, interesting world. Right. I love a good post apocalyptic world with a lot of lore to it, a lot of history to it. And, and the way that they loop that in with what Aloy is going through as a character, I think is all interesting and fun to follow. The combat I think is fun and different from a lot of different. A lot of other action games. When you have the bow and arrow focus and switch between all the gadgets and the way that like you can hit parts off of enemies and all this stuff, it all, all the pieces are there. I should be more excited for Horizon 3, but I think I'm leaning towards where you're at. Maybe a little bit higher. But I'm. Yeah, I'm not over. I'm not like, yo, where's this game? I want it tomorrow.
A
So here, I think is the Horizon's Achilles heel. You just said all the things you liked about it. Right. You didn't talk about sneaking into the 19th base.
B
Sure.
A
Creeping up on this guy, shooting him in the back. It's that idea that for as gorgeous as Horizon is, as awesome as it is. You know, this is what we talked a lot about with Zero Dawn. Now we kind of ignore it, but the fact that PlayStation was like, hey, let's make a first party open world RPG. You know, a Western RPG, you know, in the style to a degree of a Bethesda or whatever is. We're making choices and whatever. What you're not talking about is the fact that the monsters are cool. Of course there's just. I, I don't like using this term, but I think in for what we're talking about, to boil it down, there's so much fat on it. There's just so much other stuff to do in it where it's like, I don't want to go run and do the Challenges for the score. You know, I'm riding on the bellow backs and doing the archery things. I. I love sneaking in, stealth killing, yadda yadda yadda. But like, I don't think Horizon's version of that, especially in Forbidden west was outstanding. Right. Like, I think of how much I like stealthing and killing in I again to another very similar in Sushi Tsushima, like, and I liked it in Yote, but it just was Sushima again. Right. Where it's like that Assassin's Creed. I'm hiding in the bush, so now I'm invisible. So now I whistle. So now you come up. Like that has been done over and over and over and over and over and over and over. And so you're to this point where it's like, well, would Horizon benefit from being reigned back? And it is like cool. Where this is a. There's only a 20 hour experience now we're just hunting the monsters and we're just doing this.
B
And I see. I find that so interesting because I. You compared it to Western rpg, right. This is like them trying to do like a Bethesda kind of thing, which it really isn't. Yeah. And I never really thought about Horizon as that. If anything, I think of it way more closely to a Ghost of Tsushima. But I think you are. You zeroed in on the idea that I think it's in a weird middle place where it kind of doesn't satisfy either thing. Because when I think of a Bethesda game and what or like a Western RPG and what I want out of it, I want to make choices. Choices and matters and choices that matter. Right. Have great dialogue with characters, be invested in the story. I almost care more about the story than I do about something like combat.
A
100%.
C
Right?
A
Yeah. And that's 100%.
B
And in Ghosts of Tsushima, I care. I care about the story, but it's not like I'm making choices or whatever. Right. Like that character is that character. And I'm here for the gameplay. I'm here for those side activities or whatever. Horizon, I think, tries to do both. And it does, I think good at both, but not amazing at either. And maybe that's what it is.
A
100%. And I think that, you know, you talk about this in like, you know, as this isn't a. On Ashley Burch's performance. Right. Because I think she's amazing. I love her.
B
Yeah.
A
But like to compare Erika Ishii's performance in Yotei, right. The character she makes in Yotei versus Aloy and Horizon. Right. Like night and day. Like Atsu. Atsu and Yote. Right. Feeling and processing and talking us through the emotions she's having. But not in the way, like, it's all exposition. This is boring me. Right. Whereas in. Aloy has always been confused or has always been accused of being so boring, being so toast, being so quiet. Like you can't get behind her and cheer for her because who is she? And I think that's still how I think of her. Right. Like, I think again, the dlc, the Burning Shores that did more to actually let me into who she is. Okay. But no spoilers for what she's wrestling with and what she's confronted in. Like, there should be more of reactions to that. I should care more about where Aloy is at the end of that vanilla.
B
Game than I do 100%. Yeah. Talking about Horizon Hunters Gathering. Right. I. I find it so interesting that they pulled most of the studio to work on this. I wouldn't have thought that this was a like main project for us. And it sounds like it wasn't at first. Maybe they were like, hey, this is going to be part of our studio now. This is most of our studio as we're trying to barrel towards the finish line here. I'm not mad at it though. Right. Like again, to your point, I could wait three years, I could wait five years for Horizon.
A
Honestly. It's one of those. They could never come back to it. And I wouldn't be upset.
B
Yeah.
A
Especially like, let's say Hunter's Gathering is kind of doing to a degree what we're talking about. Where it is like, cool. Don't worry about the stealth and the bullshit. Go fight these giant monsters. Go into this cauldron. Go do that. Go get. You know what I mean? Like, if it is the best parts and we're fighting these monsters and collecting the thing and old guys, we gotta run. I got to go run a bellow back more and more because I need to get her his hind leg to make this thing.
B
The only thing I don't like is that you ended on such a cliffhanger into which is which I feel like exacerbates the.
A
But even for me where it's like we ended on a cliffhanger and it was like one of those around. Oh, that's a shitty way to end this game. And it's like this conversation is re triggered. What it was. Yeah. But I'm still not like I'm really interested in hearing where we are going. You Know what I mean? Like, yeah, we're going to get it. I guarantee you'll get there eventually. They keep making these Horizon games.
B
Story number three, God of War live action series casts Callum Vinson at as Atreus. This is Joe Otterson at Variety. The God of War series at Amazon Prime Video has found it's Atreus. Oh, I meant to link this, Barrett, if you could look up the Variety article, because they have a picture of the. Of the actor next to Atreus and I find it entertaining.
A
Oh, God.
B
Callum Vincent. Callum Vincent has been cast as the young God, with the actor set to star opposite Reinhurst as Atreus. His father, Kratos. Vincent previously appeared in the Amazon series Dead Ringers, while he has also appeared in hit shows such as Long Long Bright river and Poker Face at Peacock, as well as FBI International at cbs. Next up, he will appear in the third season of the Netflix series the Night Agent as well as The Friday the 13th prequel Crystal Lake at Peacock in the role of Jason Voorhees.
A
That's cool. That's really cool, right? Yeah. I mean, we don't need a prequel to Jason Voorhees story, but. And I also don't appreciate that. They're just like making up so many different things. The Amazon series Dead Ringers.
B
Yeah, right.
A
The hit shows, Long River River, Poker Face, FBI International. No, these are not real. The third season of the Night Agent.
B
You don't know about the Night Agent?
A
I don't know about the Night Agent.
B
I don't know about you either. Yeah, no. How you feel about this, Atreus?
A
Go get him.
B
Yeah.
A
You know, it's always hard when you look at just some kid.
B
I know. You got to see him in action. Yeah, I do. Like, like, I mean, time to watch the Night Agent. Yeah, maybe I gotta watch the Night Agent and so I can like, you know, like, get, get the full read on, like, okay, this is my Atreus. Cool. Yeah, I don't really have much of an opinion opinion here either.
A
Go get him.
B
Except for that he looks so young. But I gotta remember how young Atreus was in the first game. I think I kind of just forgot.
A
And you gotta remember how fast these kids ate.
B
Yeah, these kids go look at the.
A
First time when they announced, hey, we cast Tom Holland as Spider Man. You're like this infant and then like, he's a fucking man now. You know what I mean? Baird? I put an assets photo whenever they do this where it's like, hey, some kids gonna do this. I love going to that kid's instagram page.
B
Jesus Christ.
A
It says Parent Monitor. Right. But, like, this is the kind of shit they, you know, shared. The bloody disgusting collaboration of him being in Jason Voorhees thing.
B
So is baby Jason Voorhees that we're doing?
A
Yeah, he's gonna be Jason. Yeah.
B
Like a kid Jason.
C
Yeah.
A
Well, yeah. Jason Stark.
C
That's part of his, like.
A
Did you ever. I'm not even gonna ask if you watched Friday 13th. Didn't you ever watch Scream?
B
No.
A
Who's the killer in Friday 13th?
B
Jason.
A
Wrong. It's his mother in the first movie.
B
Oh.
A
See, that's the whole thing. We'll see what happens. Is spoilers for the whole backstory of Jason. Right? Spoilers. Jason or Mrs. Voorhees sent Jason to Camp Crystal Lake. Right. But all these fucking counselors, these teen kids, all they wanted to do was have sex and drink and stuff, and Jason drowned because they weren't paying enough attention. So then Mrs. Voorhees, you know, came in and exacted her revenge and killed everybody there. And then when they killed her or whatever, then Jason came out of the water alive. And then he's. He went to Manhattan at one point. Then he went to hell. It's a whole thing.
B
Interesting. I gotta watch those movies. Apparently.
A
You got to. I own them all on Xbox.
B
Oh, cool. Yeah, I'll come through.
A
I'll loan you my Xbox Live account from when they were on sale during Halloween one year. Like 2016 for a dollar.
B
Story number four. Discord will soon require age verification to access adult content. This is from Will Shanklin at Engadget. Discord is the latest company looking to bolster its child safety. Starting in March, all users will have a, quote, teen appropriate experience, end quote. By default, unlocking adult content and age gated spaces will require a verification process. The platform's big safety update encompasses communication settings, restricted access to age gated spaces, and content filtering. Users who aren't verified as adults will see blurred, sensitive content. In addition, age restricted channels, servers and app commands will be blocked. DMS and friend requests from unknown users will be routed to a separate inbox. If you're an adult, removing these restrictions will require one of two verification methods. launch, you can take a selfie video for age estimation or submit a government ID to Discord's vendor partners. The company stresses that the video selfies you submit for age estimation never leave your device. And it claims ID documents sent to its vendor partners are deleted quickly, in most cases immediately after age confirmation. Although Discord says the process will be one and done for most people. Some may be required to submit multiple forms of verification. It also says that additional verification options will arrive in the future, including an age inference model that runs in the background. Bear, what you showing?
C
This is a bs. That's Blue Sky Tim from Miley Softail who says if I know Discord for anything is that they can and will pussy out if people bully them enough or something. Get loud about this. Don't give Discord your. Your id. Don't do it.
B
What I want you to do. All right. To just destroy your point. Look up. To look up for me. Discord security breach. Because I'm sure Discord is a very. Yeah, I've never heard of saying like.
C
I should give them my ID because it'll be.
A
Let me say you can trust Disc.
B
What's the worst thing that's ever happened.
A
With the data we give Disc Discord? Nothing bad's going to happen.
B
Yeah, see, can't even find it.
A
Can't even find it. Look, he's on trust Pilot. It says everything's cool, everything's chill.
B
As he's looking it up. The joke is there was they just have one. They just had a big security breach. So. Yes. No, I do not want to give.
C
Oh.
A
Oh no. From October 3, 2025. Update on a security incident involving third party customer service.
B
Jesus. Yeah, the TLDR there. Discord recently discovered an incident where an unauthorized party compromised one of their third party vendors.
A
But they're the ones that are going to get my id.
B
One of the accounts impacted globally. We have identified approximately 70,000 users that may have had government ID photos exposed, which our vendor used to review age related appeals. Oh, man.
A
Wait, so the thing they're asking us to do is the thing they got leaked in October that they found out they festu. In October. Oh, no. Oh no. You hate to see that.
B
Oh, yes. You just said you didn't watch much of the Super Bowl. There was a commercial last night that was for ring cameras.
C
Yeah, Ring camera.
B
Have you seen this commercial? No, it's basically. It was. It's a commercial where they're essentially, I guess, showing off a feature where you can find lost dogs and you can report to Ring. Like my dog.
A
Yeah, it's like the. I've heard about it. Right? This. Yeah. The net.
B
Right. Yeah. So like you do that and then basically every. Every ring camera in your neighborhood turns on and scans the neighborhood to try and find the dog.
A
Yeah.
B
Something presented in a way was like, oh, cute. Finding lost dogs. But when you think about it, it's fucking scary.
A
I mean, nobody would ever use that against the bat, you know? What are you talking about terrifying?
B
No, no.
A
Why would that ever happen that way?
B
I feel like I've read books about this in high school.
A
I don't know if you know this yet, but you're living one of those books right now. You know what I mean? We've already given up the ground. It's already happening.
C
I wonder who has access to Ring cameras. Interesting.
B
Oh yeah, I'm trying to look that up.
C
I don't know, just on your own time maybe.
A
Look for the record, the New York Times wire Cutter article on January 28, Ring denies rumors that its footage is used by ICE. Okay, they deny it. They can't. They rumors.
C
They did a self internal investigation on it and they came out completely clean for that one before.
A
Following a surge in immigration enforcement actions in recent weeks, rumors have swirled claiming that Amazon owned Ring, which has sold tens of thousands, has been working the federal. That unsubstantiated claim, frequently posted on social media alongside calls to disable or destroy Ring devices, also asserts that Ring service is integrated with Flock Safety, a company that goes on like this. Here's what you should know. I'm going to read you the bullet points. Ring did announce a partnership with Flock Safety, but it hasn't taken effect yet.
B
Oh my God.
A
Ring and Flock Safety both say that they don't allow federal agencies to have direct access over your user data. Is this just like the cameras all over the Bay Area that got in trouble for this too? Where it turned out that shit was getting leaked all over the place. All camera makers may be compelled by law to share access to recordings. Companies may collect authorities. Wait, what? Oh. May contact authorities during time sensitive emergencies.
B
Protect your data, protect yourself.
C
And when you're not using a camera made by a big company, put some tape over it.
B
Oh God. There's a webcam staring at me right now through my laptop. Story number five. Speaking of the Super Bowl, Pokemon releases 30th anniversary commercial for the Super Bowl. I'm reading from Brian at Nintendo, everything. Pokemon celebrates a big milestone this year with its 30th anniversary and various celebrations are planned, including a commercial that just aired during the Super Bowl. I ain't got to read the rest of it. I can just explain. It's a bunch of celebrities telling you who their favorite Pokemon are.
A
Up. I wasn't in it.
B
Yeah, super fucked up.
A
Greg, Miller, Lucci. What are you talking about?
B
But they did have my guy, Trevor, Noah and Lady Gaga.
A
Yeah, now name the rest of them. You can't. Nobody knows these people. My girlfriend never have I ever who Greg Miller is.
B
They know. Never have I ever.
A
That's another made up show.
B
No, that one's not made up. That's a really good show on Netflix. It's done now, but the lead actress is great in it. And Trevor Noah and Lady Gaga, so.
C
And Jisoo from Blackpink.
B
And Jisoo from Blackpink.
A
I want to see. I want to see Trevor Noah. All right. I want to see Trevor Noah's Za Save. Bring it to me.
B
You don't think Trevor Noah plays Za?
A
I don't think he played. If he did, I guarantee he ate beyond.
B
He's like, he's the commercial. Because he said what? He said his favorite is Psyduck.
C
Hell yeah.
A
What does he evolve into?
B
Trevor, tell me that he knows what Psyduck evolves into. You gotta know. It's gold duck. Yeah.
A
Don't give it away to Trevor. You think he's watching?
B
He's typing in chat right now. It's gold. Like you. Along with all this. One of the things that they announced with this is Pokemon Day out and Pokemon Night Out. Did you see this?
A
I did not see this.
B
I'll read directly from their website because I love this. Throughout the year, fans will be able to come together in real life during Pokemon Day out and Night out experiences specifically designed to give fans of all ages the ability to connect with fellow trainers in interactive, immersive ways. Day out events will feature family friendly activities and programming, while Night out events will have fun surprises in store for longtime fans who grew up with Pokemon. More details on both Day out and Night out will be announced in the future. And this is what I'll say. Catch me at the night out events.
A
Oh yeah.
B
Oh yeah. We're about to be wilding at the Night out events.
A
Damn.
B
If you go into a Pokemon Night out that's anywhere in the vicinity of the Bay Area.
A
Oh, you know, they're big here.
B
I mean, like, we're going to be shaking ass.
A
I was going to say, you talked about this last week. I can throw ass there, right?
B
Oh, yeah. I mean, that's what it sounds like. Yeah. If you grew up with Pokemon Night out Day out, you can take Ben the day out Night out. Leave Ben at home.
A
I was going to say we do that. Then we find a nice park bench, we lay him down with a blanket. You and me go to night out. I did.
B
I'm down to go to night out with you.
A
Right. Cool.
B
Just be ready to shake some ass.
A
I'm born ready.
B
And it is implied because day out.
C
They explicitly say events will feature family friendly activities.
B
What's the opposite of night out?
C
Events will have fun, surprises.
A
They don't say family friendly.
C
They're like.
B
At the night out events, people are going to be going home together. All right? People bring me to this night out.
A
Events and I'm going to a night out event with you, dude.
B
I'm going out. We can do a kind of funny week. We can call up to him. I guess he has a family now.
A
That's the best part about this. Yeah. If there was one, like, I mean, it's amazing as is. But if you needed a silver lining to it, it's that Tim will be pressed to the glass wanting to be day out and night out. Yeah. But his little ball and chain baby wrapped around him. He can't get out there. He can't do it. I mean, he doesn't know anything.
B
You take the baby to a day out, you know, get some sun.
A
I won't allow it.
B
No, you won't allow it.
A
I'll call it. I'll call people. Okay. But I. And I don't want to brag, though. I wanted to show you this though. I was invited on Trevor Noah show once.
B
Ok. I mean, that's not. I mean, I don't. I don't even know what Trevor Noah, it's not the Daily Show.
A
No. And also you see the giant warning that this looks like a scam. This was a scam. Look at his email. It's like toad.
B
Oh, that's so, so funny.
A
Somebody's trying to scam me. Well, actually, yeah. So there's a poorly written email of like, I'm live for performances manager for what Now, Trevor. This was my response. Hi, Tyler. I don't believe you actually work on what now, but I'll bite. What do you need for me to come on the show said that November 3rd. Tyler never answered.
B
Yeah. Jesus Christ. Greg.
A
Yeah.
B
If Trevor Noah actually invited you to a show.
A
Yeah.
B
That'd be pretty big. I mean, it'd be bigger if it was the Daily Show.
A
Yeah.
B
I don't know, but it'd be big. I think he's not on the Daily show anymore. But if I wanted something smaller, say the tiniest news I need to know about, where would I go?
A
You go to our last news story, the Wii News Channel, where we run you through all the tiny news items you need to know about.
B
Story number six is we news Yakuza. Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties. Reviews are out. We got a mini roundup for you. Reminder right after this, we're doing our review of Yakuza, Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties, featuring the one and only Roger Corney along with a special guest. Yeah, Brittany Brombacher.
A
Oh, no, no, no, no. Brit couldn't do it. I'm on it.
B
Oh, you're the special guest.
A
I mean, I was already on it. I thought you were referencing.
B
No. Yes. Roger and Greg will be talking about Yakuza. Did you play it?
A
Yeah, I did.
B
Oh.
A
I don't know if you know this. I reviewed it on IGN back in the day.
B
Oh.
A
So I'm here to talk about it. I kick the tires on Dark Tides, but I'm more in it. Watch Roger talk to him about it and then, yeah, bounce off of my old review from way back in the day.
B
But right now, over on Metacritic, it is sitting at a 75. On Open Critic, it is sitting at a 74. The gamer gave it a 3.5 out of 5 games. Radar plus gave it a 4 out of 5. GameSpot gave it a 6 out of 10 out of 10. And Tristan Ogilvy at IGN gave it a 7 out of 10 and says Yaku. Yakuza, Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties is another enjoyable blend of hardboiled drama and side story silliness. But as a package, it's not quite as well rounded as the series. More accomplished entries from Windows Central. Overwatch just hit its highest player base on Steam PC since launch, passing Battlefield 6 in Call of Duty. Actually, I booted up Overwatch yesterday and I played half a game and got scared. Oh, because they added a new perks. They added a perk system. I was like, I wasn't prepared for this. I don't know how this works out, but I'll be playing Overwatch this week as the new update. Five new heroes.
A
We playing some streams of it.
B
Oh, yes. Tomorrow we're for sure gonna be streaming something for watch from Deadline. Isabella Merced will star in a movie adaptation of Sega's House of the Dead video game. That's awesome.
A
I met her. Don't worry about it.
B
Yeah, hot girl herself at the last Bliss.
A
Yeah, premiere.
B
She's also. That's cool.
A
Dina, I guess.
B
But sorry, it's tough to remember Dina. Such a small role. And then finally, WWE 2K battlegrounds and NBA 2K playgrounds 2 are getting delisted on February 20th. Service shut down July 9th. And that is it for Wii News. Take one more peek at super chats. Few people are saying secret trail Runner says, look at that. Last week, Greg says he can't remember the last time someone asked him to throw ass. And now he's going to night out with bless. Come on, we're living. Come on, we're living. Let's not invite anybody else. Especially Roger.
A
No, especially Roger.
B
Dexter Morgan says Greg Poker face is real. That's a Ryan Johnson joint.
A
Yeah, I've heard the Lady Gaga song Poker Face. I'm well aware of it. Thank you.
B
Ido Nizio says thanks for keeping me entertained on my drive to SoCal. You're welcome.
A
We hope you have a safe travels.
B
Panda be angry. No. Panda bear angry. That's what it is.
A
Close enough.
B
Writes in and says, I'm the guy who's crazy about Horizon. I agree the end of Forbidden west was poor, but I got so attached to the lore that I just want more. Sounds like you're rhyming the rap artist here. Same with Fable and Zelda. I'm a sucker for history and lore in video games. I feel that. I feel like Horizon has good history and lore, but to Greg's point, I think you really want a main character to, I think crystallize all that, like cement that in our hearts and minds. And I think I'm more interested in the world of Horizon than I am of the character of Aloy.
A
100% breaks. Yeah, I like that a lot. Yeah. Looking back and thinking about Forbidden West, Right. Spoilers. Somebody got mad at me a long time ago when I did this. Like, my favorite area is Vegas and it's because of like unearthing that old world. Right? Yeah.
B
Jeff writes in, it says Horizon games are 8 out of 10 games that people talk about. Like 5 out of 10 games because they came out at the same time as two other 10 out of 10 games.
A
Sure.
B
I feel that. I agree with that, actually.
A
Witcher Breath of the Wild, right?
B
Elden Ring. When the next one. When the next Horizon game comes out. That'll be when the Witcher 4 comes out.
A
Got it.
B
Man. Man. Writes in and says, is it possible that Horizon's problem is that it's released twice? I mean, we kind of talk about it, but it released twice against generation defining games also. Hey, Blessing and Greg, have a good day. You have a good day too.
A
You too.
B
I think I. I think that's a portion of it. Yeah. It's always. It's tough to come out as an open world game and then have a generation of finding open world game come out a Week later.
A
Yeah.
B
Because then people will compare you direct so directly and be like, oh, but this isn't as good as this. And it's like, well, it's still okay that this exists. You know? You still like the other thing.
A
Yeah.
B
A lot of people are out here talking about Horizon. I'm bringing one from Silver J. Hawkins who says remember, the only way to get them to stop making this stuff is just not paid. It's just not pay or download. I think talking about Horizon.
A
Yeah. But again that's where I think you're really.
B
I.
A
Yes, that is correct. But the problem is that we talk a lot us at this table and then all of us as gamers. Right. Like the only things that exist are the most amazing experiences or the most shitty experiences. Where a game that. Yeah. Is an 8 out of 10 that everybody talks about as a 5. Like that means when I'm playing it, I still think it's a great game and I'm enjoying it. And then I put it down and I walk away and I forget about it. But I enjoyed it for those X amount of hours I played it and that's totally fine.
B
Yeah. This is one that I'll maybe when we do our Hot Takes episode of course because of the.
A
You got to start saving these. You're going to forget them.
B
Yeah. The state plays happening. So I think our Hot Takes episode is going to move forward. But one of my Hot Takes, maybe we'll talk about it more whenever that happens is that people hate multiplayer games too much.
A
Sure.
B
It's okay that Horizon Hunters gathering exists. Is it weird that it's the Horizon ip? In my opinion, a little bit. But like aside from that, I think that game looks fun. That game looks like a good time.
A
Yeah.
B
I'll do one more because we're running out of time here as I'm looking Portland Kevin does say love you both. Blessing Greg. P.S. love you is back. Let's see here. Let's see here. We got a lot of more state of play predictions on here. I'll do this one from Big Grizz 76 who says just got a PS5 and have been loving it way more than Xbox. I've been missing out on some great games by the way. Love your guys content and show. Thank you guys so much. Thank you so much.
A
Thank you.
B
Yeah I didn't mean to do like one of like yeah, I fucked my Xbox on my PlayStation. But listen, I was picking. You know what I mean? That was a random pick for me. Let's hop into kind offunny.com you're wrong where you write in let us know what we got wrong as we got it wrong so we can correct it. For those watching later on YouTube, listening later on podcast services around the globe, Pepperoni writes in, says bless said this is the longest state of play since etc. But just a small fact check. This is actually the longest day to play ever.
A
Oh, I like that.
B
And then oh, that's it. That's it for your wrong. I think the rest of these are more editorializing. Greg yes, that brings us to the end of this episode of Kind of Funny Games, a banger episode. Of course. If you love what we do, support us with the Kind of Funny membership over on Patreon or YouTube to get all of our shows ad free and get a daily exclusive show. Enjoy the game's cast. Next, and I believe kind of feudi after. Oh yeah, a stream after that. But on the stream is gonna be me and Mike playing some magic. The Gathering. Oh yeah, we're bringing it back in person. It's gonna be a fun time, so definitely tune into that. But until next time, Game Daily Bam.
