Like that? That's the thing is like, I wonder because like, I do feel like I kind of expect that we'll see Ghost tomorrow, but I don't know what we get from it. Gameplay. Yeah. Okay, cool. Gameplay could be it. We don't need release date, just gameplay. Yeah, I think we see something, what, 40 plus minutes.

I'll even give you, I'll give you, you know what, I'll give you a summer or fall. I think they, I think they narrow down that window into summer or fall.

Okay. I, I wouldn't be surprised at this point if I just think we need to get something new from the game and I think the gameplay will satiate that in a way that we don't need the release date yet, you know. Yeah, but, but outside of that, like.

When you think about first party, then it gets tough because there's not that much that we know about the future.

PlayStation presents Death Stranding 2 on the beach special panel will take place at south by Southwest 2025. Kojima Productions, in collaboration with PlayStation, will host a Death Stranded 2 on the beach special panel at South by in Austin, Texas on March 9. At the special panel, Hideo Kojima will discuss and share new details about Death Stranding 2 On the beach, the upcoming sequel to Death Stranding 1, arriving exclusively on PlayStation 5 later this year. Tune into the live stream details to be confirmed soon. Kojima Productions will also host an exclusive pop up shop at south by Southwest which will feature the Latest Death Stranding 2 on the beach merchandise as well as exclusive items that will be available only at South By. I just, I'm not so sure about that because to me this reads more as like a hey, Kojima really likes rubbing elbows with actors and Hollywood types and south by Southwest is a place to do that and kind of, you know, prance out all of the stars that you have onto a stage. I think that that's kind of enough. I don't know that they need news for South By. They. I mean, that'd be big, but with the state of play. All I'm saying is I wouldn't be surprised if we got the release date tomorrow, but I'm not expecting it. Yeah, but I do think that they could still do this and not need news surrounding it based on what they're going to do there.

I feel you. But what do you think is more likely?

I mean, I'm kind of leaning towards tomorrow. Really? Yeah.

Had that trailer drop last week that had the release date but that leaked. Did they officially release it? Yet.

No, that's. That. That was. I had that on my list of that's going to be at the state of play tomorrow.

So. Damn, that is weird. It's so funny that even the official sort, not official sources, but like a lot of the main sites just posted that trailer. Like, oh, ye.

So now then we know that that game is August.

Right. I don't necessarily think that affects this one way or another, but you know, it is interesting to just think about it and Death Stranding, the kojima connection, the PlayStation connections. Like if we're expecting that to be there. What do you. Do you think that that affects the release timing of Death Stranding at all?

[Blessing Adioye Jr.]

No. Yeah, I'll say no. Like, maybe. I think at the. The most I can see is maybe they don't release in August specifically. But I think outside of that, like, there's so many months in the year, there's so many places where Necessary two could drop. I was already expecting. Actually, for some reason I'm all over the place with this game as far as where it could land. Because they can come out and say this game is coming out in November and I'd understand it. They could come out and say this game is coming out in June and I'd be like, makes sense, right? Like, that's the kind of game it is to me right now. And I think that's just because we don't. Even though they've shown so much, it's also the thing of death Straining two. I think the things they've shown have been so cinematic and so like, we've not really seen the gameplay breakdown of this game. And I don't know if we're. If we're even going to get that. Maybe I guess we get that at south by Southwest. But because it's been so cinematic heavy, because it's a Kojima game, it's different from other games where by now with any other game, you get the cinematic trailer, you get the gameplay trailer, you get the release date trailer. With Kojima and Death stranding, it's. You get the cinematic trailer followed by a cinematic trailer followed by another cinematic trailer. So I'm like, I don't know how. I don't know how close or far this thing feels. I think if it does feel like between tomorrow or the south by Southwest event, I would think that one of those will have the release date. I'm leaning more towards the south by Southwest thing, but either way, that's in the next month.

Here's. I guess why I'm. I'm putting my 51 on this. I'm hearing voices in my head. Bless five little men. Okay. And they're telling me something. It's gonna be maybe may. Bless. I'm thinking may for death stranding. I don't know why.

That just feels right to me. And if that's the case, you announce the release date tomorrow. And then this is more of a get the hype going, get the press going, pre orders and all of that. Right? Lock me for sure. But there's just something about it. The Death Stranding 2 feels close to me.

I mean, I'm with you. Like that's the thing is it feels close. I just don't know why it feels close to me this way. But I. I'm with you that in the next month we will know the death rating to release date either here or south by Southwest.

And I think no matter what, I won't say no matter what. But I. The vibe I get from PlayStation nowadays and even from Kojima, if you're going to announce a release date, that shit is around the corner. I don't think they're going to announce a release date for November 15th or whatever it is. Like I think you're going to say a date. I'm expecting May or June or July.

Now what's interesting about that though is we have started to see an interesting trend that feels pretty unfamiliar for the last decade of games of people kind of shooting their shot and calling dates that are way ahead of where they used to kind of do that. Donkey Kong Country Returns being an example of like they called that like six months out or something like a specific date in a different calendar year, which was really interesting. And then with Metal Gear Solid at this point too, like, you know, it leaked a week ago, but let's say it announces tomorrow a date in August. That just seems pretty far out there, you know, compared to how games in a. I would say even like a slightly pre pandemic, but definitely pandemic and post pandemic worlds. The Release dates are 2025. Until they're like, we know we're shipping it. It's within three months. Here we go.

You know, so I wonder if they're stranding two. Like you were saying, it could be close, it could be far. It's Kojima who the knows. But like he straight up could just be like, it's November.

[Blessing Adioye Jr.]

He could, you know, and I. And I'd get it Right. Like, it's, it's also one of those things that's interesting because it's PlayStation Productions, but it's also Kojima Productions, which they have their own autonomy and I imagine their own leeway as far as, oh yeah, we don't have to put this thing out in the next few months because we're Kojima and we can take as long as we need to to make Death Stranding 2. And PlayStation will probably be fine with it. If this was, if, if Death Stranding 2 was another just a PlayStation studio working on this, if this was a, like a Guerrilla Games working on this, then I would expect. Okay, well, you're going to want to have maybe Ghost of Yotei in the summer. That way you can have this hit in the fall or vice versa. Like, I think Kojima Productions can drop this whenever they want. And PlayStation is going to be like, well, yeah, we're going to give you the freedom to do that because you're Kojima. So it's hard to pinpoint even how this would fit into a PlayStation strategy. So, yeah, I'm with you. Of like, cool. They could say may just for the. Around the corner. Like, cool. Now let's really ramp up our marketing. We have a state of play here. We have, we have a South by Southwest thing in a. In a month.

And like, really get that going. The reason why I think I still lean towards the south by Southwest, like for more info on Death Straining is because they're announcing it like right before state of play. Yeah, I feel like that's the thing you would follow up a state of play with, I think to announce it. Here it is.

PlayStation. How many times have they shown something and then immediately gave you more information, though?

[Blessing Adioye Jr.]

That's true, you know, but I almost feel like you're undercutting a little bit of, hey, like, we got a Death Rating two thing later on. Now here's a state of play. It's like, well, then I don't. My automatic response is I don't expect to see Destiny 2 at the State of play. Then if you're telling me there's going to be a big event for it.

Yeah, I mean, again, we'll have to see. I, I don't think that we should expect to see it, but I don't think we should be surprised if it's there like that. That's kind of where I'm at with Death stranding too. Let's get a couple super chats in here.

Right. Like, you look at this. Looks like Final Fantasy.

So I imagine this is going to be there. I imagine this is also going to be there with the release date. Because it's been forever that this has been gestating. It is seemingly it has like souls like ish elements to it, but it's more so of a. I would classify it as like third person immersive sim with like a bit of returnal in it. Stellar Blade developer Shift up has posted a record breaking year financially as Stellar blade brought in 43 million in royalties and the PC version is expected to outsell the PS5 one. As reported by Game World Observer, Shift UP released his 2024 financial report which revealed it recorded 151.4 million in revenue, an increase of 30.4% year over year. This includes 43.2 million from Stellar Blade royalties alone. There are seemingly no signs of it slowing down either, as Shift up reiterated that it expects PC sales to be better, especially in the Asian game market. It also plans to reveal its its new game, Project Witches in the first half of 2025, though this doesn't appear to be the highly requested Stellar Blade sequel. Project Witches was revealed in 2024, not long after Stellar Blade was released on PS5 and therefore before momentum for a sequel was built up. I think looking at these numbers, for sure you're gonna get another game in the franchise. And the reason that excites me the most is that I think there's so much to improve off of Stellar Blade one.

Stellar Blade one I think had such a solid foundation of. Okay, you guys got, I mean you guys looked at near and you looked at some of the front some from software stuff and you like basically made an amalgamation of like what action games are doing in 2024. And so because of that you have a really solid action game, but then also just a lot of stuff that feels like this could be more inspired, all these characters could be more interesting, all the story could like build on itself a bit more. But you emulated what you were trying to emulate, I think pretty well on the surface level. Now for a sequel, I want to see the substance, like make those side quests pop more, make the writing in the world, like more interesting. Like get me more invested in the characters. Maybe let's not rely as heavily on the fan service and the big titties. Like let's, like let's dial in on the things that can, I think really turn this game from an 8 out of 10 to a 9 or a 10 out of 10. I think you could get there with a sequel and so I really hope they do.

Hell yeah. Story number four Ready at Dawn co founder discusses Failed Order 1886 sequel pitch this comes from Tom Ivan at VGC. Ready at dawn co founder Andrea Paseno has opened up about the now shuttered studios failed attempt to develop a sequel to the Order 1886 released in 2015 exclusively for PS4. The game proved to be a critical misfire for the once lauded studio which had previously collaborated with Sony on a number of well received titles. They included PSP games, Daxter, God of War, Chain of Olympus and God of War Ghost of Sparta plus God of War origins collection for PS3, which garnered scores of 84 to 91 on Metacritic. The order 1886 received a 63 on Metacritic despite scoring way higher in mock reviews. Paseno told Minmax that this is why he believes Sony pass in a sequel. Quote I don't think it was the sales, I think it was the critical reception. That's. And that's the thing. Sony's a very proud group and rightfully so. And the critical reception. If I, if it had even been just in the 70s, we would have had a sequel, I'm convinced just a few points more and it would have been okay. With the order reportedly receiving mid-70s scores and mock reviews, it's claimed that Sony had decided on a release date and it was non negotiable. So Ready at Dawn did its best to get the game in shape with the time it was afforded. One of the problems is, excuse me, is that so much was cut out and a lot of more subtle narrative parts were lost because so much was chopped away and things were supposed to be interactive. Became a movie. What a great quote there. We need another year. That's the reality. We needed at least one more year and we didn't get it. So we were like cut, cut, cut. Casino said 2018 would have been a very realistic launch window for the sequel, which would have featured multiplayer. And while he didn't confirm what year the game would have taken place, he said the fan theory that it was going to be set in 1986 was wrong. So it's, there's a lot here. First off, shout out to Min Max. They've been crushing it recently. I'm getting a lot of really, really good dev interviews that resulted a lot of new stories. So cool stuff. Shout out to Ben and the team over there. Also interesting here because, you know we, we now have a retrospective looking back on what PlayStation currently is and what it was. And like we think of like oh my God, the PS4 era dominated but it's like there was a time where it wasn't.

It just launched and it just kind of like was, you know and it had a bloodborne. Right. But Orchard Order 1886, like that was one that it was like ah, you know, kind of came in wet on.

You know I think people were highly anticipating from the E3 showings. Like it looked cool, looked interesting, had like very cool presentation. I think the world seemed cool with like the werewolves and all that, but came out and I think the biggest complaints were its length, which I think makes sense to what Casino is talking about here. Of hey yeah, we had to get it out and so we had to cut things. We had to turn playable things into cut scenes essentially. But then that resulted in a worse game.

But imagine if, and you know there's a lot of this here. There's a lot of like make believe and like pretending that things are good, you know.

But imagine if what he's saying here happened and they got that extra year and it came out in 2018 and it was then part of that Spider man horizon. God of War, Last of Us, like.

And like that's not worth the, the extra year of development because that costs a lot of money.

We'll never know. But then we got a story number five. Dragon Quest 12 information to be revealed little by Little the series creator Ug Hori says this comes from Wesley Ino at IGN. Dragon Quest 12 is still in development and information will be released little by little, as reported by Automaton. Hori said the development team at Square Enix is working hard on Dragon Quest 12 while on a live stream with his radio show group. It's the first update on the game since May 2024, when Hori noted the deaths of Dragon Quest character designer Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama. The series lead producer Yu Miyaki and Miyake, and by that point already stepped down from his position to lead Square Enix's mobile game division. Fans had expressed concern that Dragon Quest 12 might have been canceled amid restructuring at Square Enix and a lack of updates, but the latest comments appear to confirm the game's still in the works. Dragon Quest 12 was announced as part of the series 35th anniversary celebration and will be the first mainline entry since 2017's Dragon Quest 11. Echoes of an elusive age 2017? That's wild. I would have not thought it was that long ago since a new Dragon Quest came out.

Not a year wrong, but just to contribute to the death 72 release date talk, since it was rated in Korea last week, this is relevant. These are SIE's other Korean ratings as compiled by Reset Era user Zeta50. So it's a list of times the game was rated in Korea and then when it released. So Death stranding on originally two months and 12 days later. Horizon Zero dawn complete on PC two months and six days. God of War, Ragnarok on PlayStation five months, 21 days. There's looking through these, it seems like.
