Tim Gettys
We've had some great We've been playing
Mike
a lot of good Games, Tim. That's the positive. It's.
Tim Gettys
You know, we were gonna talk about Pragmata. Did you play Pragmata?
Mike
I have not yet. You know, that replaced Pragmata. And then one more game came out. What am I missing?
Tim Gettys
There's a third Resident Evil.
Mike
No, no, no, no, no. Right in the. Oh, sorrow. Sorrow. Now add sorrows.
Tim Gettys
Too many games. Too many games.
Mike
I'm in a Zelda hole. I'm playing so much Zelda that I. Tim, all these games are great. I'm having too much fun with playing
Tim Gettys
Ocarina of Time, the Jaws Mask, back to back. I can't even imagine what that's like.
Mike
It's been an incredible experience. We're going to talk about it on Monday, you and I, because we didn't talk about Ocarina of Time together.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, that's right.
Mike
Wow.
Tim Gettys
What a game. Yeah, I saw your review, though. That was awesome.
Mike
Fantastic. Major's Mask. Tim, Monday, you're in for a treat.
Tim Gettys
I can't wait to hear what you have to say about that one, Mike.
Mike
So, yeah, no, I have not played Pragmata. That was high on my list. Then Mouse PI. I gave that a try. I enjoyed Mouse PI. So I was like, oh, I'll just keep playing this. Now Soros is here, and I'm a Soros guy for.
Tim Gettys
So where are you at in Soros?
Mike
I haven't played it yet.
Tim Gettys
That'll be my weekend.
Mike
Well, well, I say that NBA the Run has a beta going on right now.
Tim Gettys
We're living, Mike.
Mike
I need that. And then, get this. Heroes of Might and Magic just dropped a brand new game. And I'm a Heroes of Might and Magic dude.
Tim Gettys
Tim, man, I rented that for Blockbuster so many times. I love this, man. Shinobis in the chat says Tim already knows it's a slow news day. Yeah, y', all, it is. What do you want me to do?
Mike
The last part of the opening was Hideo Kojima wants to go to space. You know what's going to go down.
Tim Gettys
And also, me just had a bunch of bites. I am stretching this Final Fantasy story somewhere that I don't know that it needs to go. But, hey, we're going to have fun here, all right? And it might be a slow news day, but I think it's a good news day for me and you. Me and you. Conversation. And I'm just letting you all know. Strap in. This won't be a naked Jakey day. Right? Greg Miller's not here, so no shenanigans of that sort.
Mike
Play this Right down the book.
Tim Gettys
But we are going to have some fun because there's. There's some weird shit that we're going to get. Capcom's doing some stuff that I'm like, I love it, but, like, we're just gonna enjoy it together. You'll see what I'm talking about.
Mike
Games cast coming up after this. We do great party mode after this.
Tim Gettys
I can't explain for this. Games Cast, Mike. After this. Games Daily, we're doing an episode live for everybody talking about Mixtape, a game that I am incredibly hyped for. Okay. From the directors of or from the team behind the Artful Escape, which was my game of the year in 2021. I loved it very, very dearly. And it is made by a man named Johnny Galvatron. And I've never met Johnny Galvatron, but we've went back and forth on the Internet a couple of times. The game, the reason I love the game so much is that man's mind is all over this thing and I need to talk to him and I can't wait. And it's about to be a journey of epic proportions. I don't know what to expect from this interview, but I know it's going to be insane because this fun. He goes by Johnny Galvatron. Oh, all right. That.
Mike
I love that.
Tim Gettys
It's freaking awesome.
Mike
Ask him if he's ever met Snowbike Mike.
Tim Gettys
I mean, right? That's the whole thing. All right, Mike, let's get into it. Of course, if you're watching live, be part of the show by super chatting on YouTube.com kind of funny games. We couldn't do this without our Patreon producers, Carl Jacobs, Omega Buster and Delini the Psalm Twining. For now, let's begin with what is and forever will be the Roper Report CY stories today. Story 1. After a successful debut, it sounds like Capcom believes its brand new IP Pragmata has a bright future ahead. This comes from Victoria Phillips Kennedy at Eurogamer. It seems Capcom could have another franchise on its hands. After selling a million copies in just two days, the studio's astronaut and small girl starring game Pragmata could be just the beginning for its brand new ip. That's according to the chief operating officer of Capcom usa, Rob Dyer, who is speaking at the Icon conference in Las Vegas earlier this week where Greg Miller was. Greg Miller out there hosting panels.
Mike
He looked great.
Tim Gettys
He did. With Ronnie 2K and Montez Ford.
Mike
Wow.
Tim Gettys
Kind of wild.
Mike
Great lineup.
Tim Gettys
Very cool. But here's the interesting thing, Mike. They said we're to the point now where we've got another IP that Capcom and God bless them, has an arsenal that we can continue to go down. He added that Pragmatist lengthy development time which saw the game being delayed several times, was worth the effort in the end. So far from confirmation that a sequel's definite, but it sounds promising. Now remember, Pragmata was first announced with a very bizarre teaser back in 2020 when it was set for a futuristic sounding 2022. A year later that release date was pushed back to 2023. And then in 2025, Capcom then promised that Pragmata would arrive in 2026 and it finally came out this April. I really, really enjoyed this game. I love the idea of a sequel. I think it is the perfect example of a new IP coming through with an incredibly solid first title that I'm like, oh, a sequel could make this that much better. It could really elevate it up to that. Uncharted, Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed 2, Pragmatic 2 I think could really, really hit. I know you haven't played yet, but do you have any thoughts on this?
Mike
I'm excited to dive a little bit deeper into that with you, Tim. I have played the demo. I enjoyed the gameplay mechanics of it. I think Diana and Hugh were a fun little combo that I saw from just the demo alone. I'm impressed by the sales numbers, Tim. We kind of, I mean, at the first blush, when we first saw this, I think everybody was interested, oh, what is this sci fi space with Capcom? What are they doing here? And then we saw two back to back game delays in a fun weird way with a small note and Diana saying sorry, right. Like it was one of those where you're like, what is this game? Is it even real? What's going to happen at the finish line? And I cannot believe that I'm full 180 of like, wow, it seems nothing but positive about this game finish line. And it actually worked.
Tim Gettys
I mean, there's a big thing though, you bring up the, the Wild sales and I think there's an important key fact there that we need to point out, which is Capcom's continued dominance of the last couple years. But we've seen them with the Resident Evil games of how well and the Monster Hunter games, two major franchises for Capcom. Two of the biggest franchises they've ever had. Right. And we've seen them kind of consistently put out titles that hit and sell well. Maybe not every single one bigger than the last, but Major, major wins for them. Then you look at pragmata and it's this new IP that's a major win for them. But we have to look at the math behind why and a big reason. Multiplatform, successful multiplatform strategy. Right. In an era where we're looking at some of the bigger publishers and they're making weird calls where it's like maybe they're not putting their games out on Xbox or maybe they're not putting them out on Switch to. Or maybe our strategy is going to be we don't put it out on Steam. Like we see so many dumb things like obviously I'm such a broken record about this, but Prince of Persia, Lost Crown, not being on Steam, being tied to the Ubisoft store. It's like dumb decisions hold back good games from selling well. Good decisions mean a million sold in two days for a new ip. This is a game that came out, that ran well on every platform including the Switch 2.
Mike
That prints money, baby, gives money now, gives hope to the development team that hey, we can stick around. And like you said Tim, this is a game that we the positive reception. I'm sure I'll jump into it but Greg always says it's like this game can only be made better by a sequel and it'll be exciting to see if they get to that. What do you improve upon? What do you build off?
Tim Gettys
It's clear. I mean that's the thing is playing this game, I feel like in addition to the very solid multi platform strategy, there's a game design ideology of this, of it where we keep talking about older generations and all that and I think a lot of it comes down to just the length of the game and, and them not overstaying their welcome. They made a fun video game that you can play and yearn for more. In a way that's good, right? This doesn't need to be a 30 hour epic, right? Get in, get out. Maybe it takes you 11 hours, maybe it takes you 15.
Mike
Cool.
Tim Gettys
We need so much more of that.
Mike
I want to talk about the length of it, Tim, because that's interesting you bring it up because then it goes into development time for me now, right? You are riding the high off the success of this game and, and if there is truly an interest and a belief that a sequel would do well and become maybe a franchise for you, if that game length is what you want. Tim, how long is really the development time? Because we've seen development times blow up with certain games but now it takes too Long and the interest and the excitement has kind of dwindled. It's hard to relight that fire. Do you think that this could be a shorter development time? We could see a pragmatic two, three years from now?
Tim Gettys
Well, I think again, we got to look at Capcom, the Cab Gods right now and how steady the cadence of releases has been. They have a secret sauce over there and they've got it down. Pragmata took very long. I just went through all of the struggles there, right. And now they're saying it was worth the effort. In my mind, that was them. It's a new IP that they are believing in. And I'm sure that at some point along the line they had to make the decision of do we just rush this out and get it out the door and exoprimal it, or do we have a potential pillar IP that we should make sure we get right so that people want a sequel? And that's clearly what they did here. So I imagine that this, that a sequel to Pragmata will not take nearly as long as this situation was. Right? You look at the Resident Evil side and Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 remakes coming out within a year of each other for two years later sprinkled in there, seven, eight. You know what I mean? It's like they're putting these things out. Capcom games are coming out this year alone. We're getting Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata, Onimusha, right. Like they're shooting before I move on
Mike
to Capcom, because I'm excited to talk about Capcom as a whole right now and what they're doing. Let's stick with Pragmata. What did Pragmata do? Well, Tim, what is that secret sauce? Right? Because to me, I think it's easily identify identifiable of like this is a Capcom game. When you talk about Monster Hunter and you talk about Resident Evil, I think of like the behind the back third person perspective. I think of these kind of horror like scenarios. And it kind of fits that build of what I expect a Capcom game to be. But what is the extra sauce? Is it the hacking minigame while shooting? Is it Diana and Hugh? What made this game become so special?
Tim Gettys
I mean, it's a video game. Like that's the things Capcom makes video games. And I feel like so many other studios are trying to make movies. You know, it's like. And. And there's something about the RE engine, right, I think works so well for Capcom to be able to make games that are very visually compelling. Like, it's not like they're cutting corners. And it's not like these, they're putting things out that feel lesser than other experiences in terms of the, the graphics and, and all of that. But it's just, they focus on gameplay and I think Pragmata specifically to me is just like they kept it simple. It's, it's not like the concept of the gameplay is the most insane thing ever. They just had a unique twist that made a third person action shooting game something different. Right. And like again, I think that kind of the beauty of it is that it's not the best thing ever. It's just great. It's, it is just like a fun ass video game that you want more of. And again, I think that comes down to not overstaying its welcome, but also giving you just enough twists and terms, gameplay wise and story wise, for, for it to be compelling and me to be like, oh, I'm interested in this as an IP as well as a video game.
Mike
So now we talk about this becoming an, an IP that could flourish. This is something you would double down on. There's a couple other games in the Capcom lineage that didn't make that Exo Primal rights. I think of Kitsugami, I'm trying to pull up right there.
Tim Gettys
But like Kitsugami though was a, a good game. Viewed well, it just didn't kind of hit in a, in a major way. But it's also, it's like I, I think that that game inherently was a little genre in a way that like was going to limit its audience inherently. Yeah. So I, I wouldn't be surprised if Capcom looked at Konitsugami as a success for what they were. Exoprimal. Exoprimal. You know, like it wasn't that good. And I feel like that's the biggest difference between them where it's like it was still fun, but I think the expectations for Capcom and Dinosaurs have had to be higher than what we got there.
Mike
Oh, okay.
Tim Gettys
Right.
Mike
Okay. Well, now we look at Capcom, right? You brought up Resident Evil. You have Monster Hunter Street Fighter as well. You didn't bring up Capcom. Capcom is having a resurgence. I think you, when I listen to you over the past 11 plus years, Tim, it's been Capcom in a different tone and now Capcom in this positive tone.
Tim Gettys
There was a shift and I, I, at some point I need to go and actually look at like what it was. But I, I think the easiest thing to credit is Monster Hunter Worlds. Right, okay. They took their biggest franchise. That wasn't the biggest in America. It was the Biggest in Japan, but because of how in like invested the Japanese audience is in Capcom's video games. Like that was such a major hit and they found a way to mainstream it and make it a worldwide hit. Right? And make it not just something that people are playing portably, but they're playing on their home consoles and they're loving it. And it was like the greatest entry point for new fans that are now going to be incredibly excited anytime a Monster Hunter is announced. Right? Like they did that shit and then they were able to ironically bring Resident Evil back from the dead. Same, you know what I mean?
Mike
Followed up with two great remakes of a Resident Evil franchise that reignited. Hey, this franchise is really special. Here's two great games on top of that with 7 and 8 following that. Like, yeah, you have a good mix going on. Street Fighter finding a huge audience now.
Tim Gettys
I mean, yeah, that's the other thing too, right? Is like you look at, at Street Fighter and Street Fighter 5, like they made some choices that weren't really wise with the, the release strategy there. Six remedied all of that, I would say. And the, even the Resident Evil games like that were bad, they still sold super well. Yeah, right. So it's like Capcom really kind of took that break after six and to them it was a success. But clearly success doesn't just mean money. Success also includes buy in from gamers and excitement. And that strategy, I think has really paid off for them. In the time we're in right now, I want to bring you to some weird shit.
Mike
Okay.
Tim Gettys
Because some weird shit's going on and I got, I'm going to, I'm going to like let everyone know right now. This is just social media fun. Like this is not. I don't think that there's anything deep here going on, but I think that this is kind of cute and I think it's fun. And I think that this is a perfect example of how Capcom is. Sees Pragmata as a valuable IP to their, their lineup that they continue to invest in. So yesterday Diana, the little girl in Pragmatic, we love Diana in character, started hacking all of the Capcom social accounts.
Mike
Nice.
Tim Gettys
Okay.
Mike
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
So Kevin, if you do me a favor, bring up that Pragmatic tweet. There. Can't be there. There we go.
Mike
Yeah, sorry, there's just so many links on this doc.
Tim Gettys
There is, there is. And I'm sorry, all of them. No, just, just.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
I figured.
Mike
Okay, cool.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
I've opened up the appropriate ones.
Tim Gettys
You're the best. So I, I called this section Capcom's doing some shit. All right, so here we got Diana saying all these weird objects I've never seen before showed up in the shelter. Hmm. I wonder what will happen if I hack them.
Mike
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
All right. And you see her here, Little Raccoon City. Some other, like, monster hunt situations going on and whatever. All right, then, Kevin, you can go to the next tweet. The Mega man one. I tried hacking this account when a program called Mega man said hi. He teams up with a human to delete viruses, kind of how Q and I smash bots. He said we could be friends if I promise not to hack him. Love that. This is also on the Pragmatic account, but she's tagging the Mega Man.
Mike
Fantastic.
Tim Gettys
So we're getting a lot of the Capcom love together. Right? So then this is where shit gets kind of fucking wild. Kev, I'm going to need you to scroll down a bunch of tweets because they went hard over here on the Resident Evil side of things. Right. Little more, little more. You can keep going. There we go. Somewhere around here, actually. No, keep going down. Keep going down even more.
Mike
She's really deep in the rest.
Tim Gettys
She's real deep in the Resident Evil.
Mike
All right.
Tim Gettys
Yes, there. All right. So she's saying, hi, everyone, I'm Diana, a state of the art pragmata from Pragmatic Game. I hacked into this weird Raccoon City sign and ended up here. I've never heard of Resident Evil, so let's collect lots of data. It looks kind of scary, but Hugh told me to be brave. Let's have fun.
Mike
That's how you have to do it.
Tim Gettys
You have this, like, I want to do it, man. So then she, like, just tweets like 10 different things on the Resident Evil things. And it's a little funny meta story of her getting scared of a bunch of things in Resident Evil. Right? Then she's like, I don't want to play anymore. Whatever. She ends up dealing with it all. Scroll back up, Kevin. The Resident Evil ones, the most annoying. I'm sorry. Just because there's so much. But, like, there's some pretty good jokes.
Mike
Yeah, I'm gonna read this in character.
Tim Gettys
Playing and hacking. Whatever. Yeah, keep going up more. Even more. Like where there's like a older blonde woman. Yeah.
Mike
She's holding up the sign with.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, yeah, here we go. So Ashley, who's a hacker in Resident Evil, that we have hackers kind of each other. They're interacting. She's holding up the thank you sign instead of the sorry Side. All right. We got some collabs, everyone. Now we can bounce over to Monster Hunter. It's a similar situation. We don't need to read any of these. But again, in character, her kind of crossing over and dealing with, like, the files of the monsters on the desktop.
Mike
This looks like a PowerPoint presentation I would make.
Tim Gettys
Yeah. And then. Hold on. Sky says Tim's a fake RE fan. That's not Ashley. Who is it? Sherry. It's Sherry. That's right. Little girl from two. Now she's old man.
Mike
What a journey.
Tim Gettys
Not the little girl in four.
Mike
What a journey.
Tim Gettys
What a journey. Then what I do want to show you, though, is Konitsugami. She tried to hack it and it didn't work. Play the video. This is what she found. What the fuck is Kunitsugami? Why won't Blessing tell me about Konitsugami?
Mike
Up to
Tim Gettys
insane. Insane.
Mike
Okay, well, that. You know what? Shout out to the social team. Having a fun time. Coming up with a good vision and doing something fun. That's what it's all about.
Tim Gettys
I'm not done.
Mike
Not done.
Tim Gettys
I'm not done. The reason I bring all this up. Yeah, of course. Because we end with Onimusha. Oh, go to the top.
Mike
Coming title.
Tim Gettys
Go to. Go to the first. The top Post here. Onimusha pinned a tweet about this. I found something in my files about a release date for something called Onimusha Way of the Sword. Let me download that module for you. Actually, Hugh says it's time to go now, so I won't have time. Oh, and I've been practicing Japanese more. So I'll say goodbye in Japanese too. And then she does that. So is this just them having fun? They're like, what can we do with Onimusha? Let's do this. Sure. But I'm here on a slow news day, Mike. All right. Oh, we're station. Choo choo, motherfucker.
Mike
All right.
Tim Gettys
They pinned it. Onibusha pinned. This. Is a release date imminent?
Mike
Well, see how I'm a month away from Summer Game fan? Yeah. Yeah. I would say it's imminent.
Tim Gettys
I think so, too. I think so too. Especially we're at the point that they're saying 2026. They're still saying that. Like only was just continuing to tweet about it with that year there.
Mike
Okay.
Tim Gettys
Which no sign of it being delayed. Capcom has been very good about getting these games out. With the exception of Pragmata from 2020. Whatever. Yeah. I think Summer Game Fest will get that release date.
Mike
Do you Think Summer Game Fest. Well, not sooner than that. Nothing. No weird standoff. Like, hey, we're doing our own thing all of a sudden?
Tim Gettys
I don't think so. I mean, who. Who knows? Capcom's fucking crazy. And they do their weird showcase.
Mike
Well, yeah, they'll do their showcase during
Tim Gettys
that week, but chances are they'll, like, announce everything in Summer Game Fest and then do their showcase and just repeat all the news and we'll be like, why'd we do that?
Mike
We love watching that.
Tim Gettys
You know, I'll be good.
Mike
Lord, Tim, before we leave Capcom.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Mike
There's a couple more I want to talk to you about, because you kind of talked about the big franchises now. Pragmata possibly becoming. Getting a sequel, becoming one of those IP in the stable. Devil May Cry.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Mike
One that I hold near and dear to my heart. Dead Rising. Right. Like, what's up with some of these games? I also appreciate Capcom taking chances. Kinitsugami I'll always go back to. Right. But like, yeah, you do have Exo Primal. We saw Dragon's Dogma 2 as well. Like, coming back. Like, it seems like you have a solid stable. You know what? You know where you got to be. And then we're taking shots in between with some other games. But, yeah, Devil May Cry, Dead Rising. Will I ever get another Dead Rising, Tim?
Tim Gettys
Yeah, you will. I think Capcom is a publisher that I think you will get another of all of their games at some point. Will it be good? Will it be a remake? Will it be a mobile game? I don't know. But they go back to their. Well in very bizarre ways. You know, we have some old ones like Dino Crisis that I do think we will get at some point. I don't think it's anytime soon. Devil May Cry is in an interesting place because a lot of the key talent left the studio, so I don't know what that would look like. DMC5 very much teed up a DMC6, and I pray that we get it. But I was shocked when we got a DMC5. So at some point, we'll be surprised. Devil May Cry Season 2 on Netflix, coming out next month. This month now, I guess. Very excited for that.
Mike
So with the talent leaving, is that just. You're apprehensive of getting back into that ip? It feels like such a win for gamers and it has such a video game name.
Tim Gettys
Why are.
Mike
Why is that not already, like, hey, we got to be on this?
Tim Gettys
Because it's one of the games that, like, the style and tone is kind of Tied to the director's vision in a lot of ways. And it. And more than that, it's not that I don't think other people can do Devil May Cry, although other people have tried the past. People didn't love that. I kind of did. But I digress. I think it's more the passion at the company of like, I don't know that there's people at Capcom right now that are like, I want to do Devil May Cry, you know, because I also think there's a lot of expectations, like, with that franchise.
Mike
Okay. So kind of giving me a Kojima Metal Gear Solid vibe there.
Tim Gettys
Less so that. But like. But that. That's just because that's like such an example of it. But yeah, sure. Similar.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Okay.
Mike
Okay.
Tim Gettys
We went way longer on that story than I ever thought we possibly could have.
Mike
Well, Capcom is cooking. That's the big part.
Tim Gettys
They are.
Mike
That's.
Tim Gettys
That's the take.
Mike
The catch is like, no matter what, Capcom is in a really good place. They're making some really, really good games. And to see a win, especially Pragmata, which, like, if you rewound. Two years ago, I was teasing this game like, there's no way. And now here we are. It's like you're celebrating a win Onimusha, possibly at the end of the year. Like, you have some wins here and they're building off of that.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, I mean, there is. There is a high likelihood that Capcom will have like an insane amount of nominations if not wins at the game awards this year. Like, they just have a lot of opportunities because they've had some major wins so far. And with more. More to come. But we're going to talk about your favorite thing, Xbox, right after a quick word from our sponsor.

we're back with story number two Xbox mode begins rolling out to players on Windows 11 PCs. This comes from Xbox Wires Xbox Xbox Wire post by Jason Ronald, the VP of Next Generation Xbox the Homie and Ian Legro, Corporate VP of Windows and Devices. Beginning today, which was yesterday, we're excited to share that Xbox Mode will begin rolling out in select markets to Windows 11 PCs, including laptops, desktops and tablets, bringing a console inspired Xbox Experience to more players than ever. Whether you're playing on a high performance desktop, a gaming laptop, or Windows Handheld, Xbox Mode makes it easier to jump into your games. It adds another way to enjoy games on your PC with a controller optimized full screen experience that's built for play. Some players in select markets will be able to download the Xbox Mode experience now, with availability expanding to more players over the next several weeks. With Xbox Mode, you can browse and launch games using a controller optimized interface. Jump back and forth between Xbox and Windows 11 desktop whenever you want, access an aggregated game library, including the full games catalog from Game Pass and installed games from leading PC storefronts. They're not saying it, but that became an epic okay, because Xbox Mode's built on Windows, you still get the flexibility and openness of PC gaming while enjoying a more immersive and streamlined way to play. Since first introducing Xbox Mode, which was formerly known as as Full screen experience on Windows handhelds, we've been listening closely to player feedback and continuing to evolve the experience across devices. Blah, blah blah. You get what's going on. Mike, you seem kind of like, hey, this doesn't really matter too much.
Mike
I mean, it's not a big one for me as I have not got it on my PC yet. But I'm excited to see it's been something that they've been working on for some years now, right Ever since they created the Xbox app on PC, the goal has been to unify the look across mobile, Xbox consoles and PC. Right? And we've seen that slowly roll out and it really feels like now, this right now is like their time of like, hey, let's finally get this done right. We have the Xbox Rog Ally. We've shown people, like, what it can look like. We're now unifying that with PC. We'll see with Project Helix, of course, like, there's going to be a uniform look that they want to achieve. Where it feels like when Tim sits down to play wherever he wants to play, you will understand and know exactly you're with Xbox. You know what you want to do. Unifying my PC library with other things as the Xbox Rog Ally guy right now. I love that. Right. I like kicking it out and seeing, hey, here's some Steam games that you've downloaded. You want to jump right into them. I like that a lot. It's not big news to me because I guess I'm so into it already, but I've been very critical of the Xbox PC app and its growth. And it's interesting right now where we're now making more of a commitment to console players to have conversations still about PC mobile. Will we see that slow down or will that still stay in pace with console? Because, you know, we've had a big conversation this past year. Lack of the moment. You dropped exclusivity now with like a console that is in third place trying to regain its strength again. Where are we at? And when we talk about PC, it's like not many people like Steam. They love Steam.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Mike
It's hard to get people off of.
Tim Gettys
It is. Yeah. I mean, that is the big thing, right? And so I think that the conversation here, I do think that this is like a bigger deal, quote unquote, than like you seem to be saying. However, I'm really happy it's not our story number one, because it was for a while when I was building this show. You gotta say, that's where I'm at. I do think that the push here, them renaming the full screen experience to Xbox mode on all of these little changes, it's just adding up to like, okay, cool. Like we're starting to get rid of a lot of my, my little, the little niggles that I have with, with Xbox, you know what I mean? Like the tiny little stuff that's like not really a problem, but it's like when there's big problems and there's all these other Things. It's like this just feels like a mess. The mess is starting to get cleaned up. I do wish that we were at a place that the mess could be just cleaned a lot quicker. Like I could just look away and look back and it's done. Because like you think about the, the Rog ally, right, like that came out, it kind of just felt like the alpha version of what this is. It does seem like we're getting more updates than ever from Xbox, like in terms of OS and the software of it all. So that's good. But at the end of the day it is still Windows. I think that that is a problem and we're going to have to see how this all shakes out. But I will say that big picture mode on Steam and the way that it has advanced over the years, we're at a point that it's awesome, it just works. And I think that it does. You always are talking about how PC gaming is starting to take over more and more of the market share. And I do think that modes like this are a, a big part in convincing some people that don't want to play at their desk. They use their computers for work, they want to leave their desk at the end of the day and play on a tv. And it's things like this that I think are going to sway even more people and also give the gamers that are already playing on PC another way to play.
Mike
Right?
Tim Gettys
To your point, too little, too late. Why would people leave Steam when it already has all these things if that's where the library is? But for the people whose libraries on Xbox that have been in the Xbox ecosystem for decades, at this point, they're making moves, hopeful.
Mike
I mean, it's also an app that we're talking about that started in like 2019, right, Tim? It's like Steam has been around for decades. Xbox jumping into the PC space has been there for quite some time. But like working on this app, it's not like, oh, I can compare you to a 20 year old application now you're still working on this, but yeah, it'll be interesting to see where we go five years from now. What is this look? What is the mantra? What are we talking about? Right my still on mobile, trying this. Are we still on PC? What's up with the Blizzard app? We still have, we still have Blizznet out there as well.
Tim Gettys
Don't talk to me about Blizznet.
Mike
What are we doing with things, Tim? What are we doing?
Tim Gettys
What we're doing is updating the Xbox logo. Places. You want to see this?
Mike
Show me that Xbox logo.
Tim Gettys
Let's check it out.
Mike
I really like this Xbox logo.
Tim Gettys
Yeah. Here you go. So, Asha Sharma, the dynamic that are dropping today, the new logo is now in dynamic backgrounds, profile background rounds, and gamer picks. This is an interesting one. I get. I get it's easy to look at this and laugh. Be like, what are we doing here? But I do think it's an example, for better or worse, but I'm gonna put this in the better category. Ash is out here in these streets, man. She is on social media, and people are saying what they want, and if they can make it happen quickly, they're doing it right. There's big, big decisions that need to be made about exclusives and what console means and all that stuff. They're working on that stuff. But game pass, like, we got. We got to do some things. I can do something now. They made the change to Call of Duty. Cool. Let's get ahead of it. I've seen so many people, when they announced this logo, be like, I want a dynamic background. I want it. And here it is. Cool.
Mike
It's celebrating the little wins in a large space that usually would be filled up with just not celebrating these small wins, right? It's like, hey, this is awesome. The new logo looks great. It feels fresh. It feels clean. Seeing it on a dynamic background, that's an easy win. That should be a kind of like a day two process all the time for stuff like this. But it is. Hey, we're celebrating that, and that's the positive. It's usually negative when you talk about Xbox. So it's nice to be like, hey, let's even talk about just, like, the small wins right now.
Tim Gettys
Smallest wins possible.
Mike
Game pass went down in price. Sure. More expensive than what it was. But you know what? That's a win. Hey, we got a new logo. That's a win, right? Like, let's just keep building these wins, and then we'll get to the big wins, which is console exclusivity. Your favorite games, where they're going to be. It's Xbox 25. Try to put some focus on that and celebrate 25 years of Xbox.
Tim Gettys
Let's do it.
Mike
Lot of great games to look back on and celebrate. A lot of four gigantic titles to celebrate coming out this year.
Tim Gettys
Story number three. Story number three. Final Fantasy 7 director has already completed over 40 full playthroughs of the third game.
Mike
I don't want to hear this. This is insane. Tim. I read this. I was like, all right, those Are
Tim Gettys
Ollie Reynolds at Nintendo Life. Final Fantasy 7 fans are eagerly awaiting news in the upcoming final installment in the remake trilogy. But if you' worried or anxious about the status of its development, then a recent comment from director Naoki Hamaguchi might bring you peace of mind. We recently interviewed him and asked how the third game's progressing. And to our surprise, he confirmed that he's already completed over 40 full playthroughs. That's quite an accomplishment. But we imagine it's probably necessary to ensure the experience works as intended and doesn't contain any nasty surprises. Here's what he had to say. We're very excited about how the game is currently progressing. I. I've already completed over 40 full playthroughs. I can't wait for as many people as possible to experience the game for themselves. And myself and the team are working very hard to ensure that we can create an unforgettable gameplay experience. Then there was a. An interesting thing and this is where I'm. I, I brought in the like, it might be coming sooner than people might think. With large scale titles like this one, it's common for a long gap to exist between the first and second installments. However, because they were ports, we decided we could deliver them without leaving much of a gap. Of course, he's talking about Remake and Rebirth finally making the console jump to other systems, including the switch to where we had Remake Intergrade come out earlier this year. We have Rebirth coming out next month. So interesting there. We want to capitalize on this cadence and the moment. Sorry, we want to capitalize on this cadence and moment to tie the experiences together without any gaps from Remake to Rebirth to. To finally the third installment that lies beyond them. So if you think about that, they're saying that they want the gaps to be similarly sized. And we're talking about January to June. June to December.
Mike
Wow, Tim.
Tim Gettys
I don't know. I don't know.
Mike
But I mean, that makes it fun because we've had two stories like this where they've come out and been like, we're playing this game. We're having a blast. All right, well, we're, we're ready to play this game too. Like, let's get to that point. And it does feel imminent, right? It does feel like we're going to talk about this within this year. We're going to see some sort of trailer. We're going to know, kind of like, hey, this is kind of the date or at least window. It feels like by the end of this year we'll be feeling like that.
Tim Gettys
I am still shocked that we didn't get the title reveal at game Awards last year. Like I thought that was such a slam dunk prediction. It just made so much sense. But in hindsight, I'm now looking at it. I'm like, oh, this half of the year has been about promoting seven remake and Rebirth. Right. The different ports and they've been going so hard on that. And again, excellent ports with multi platform support. These things run amazing on the switch to what a win for them. Right. The goal is a multi platform launch all platforms at the same time for number three. Right. And then time out, closing the gap. Like, I do think there's a higher chance than ever that that's the case. What was Sony's deal back in the day? Was the exclusivity for all three? We do not know Mike. We do not know you, but we will find out. Yeah, you would assume it is, but perhaps things changed. Maybe Square could have bought that out because they're like, we need this thing to sell more. There's a lot of doubt. Who knows? My prediction right now though is with all of this, I think, lay it on me, Rebirth came out, I want to say end of January or end of February. End of February. I think that this, that part three will come out end of February 2027.
Mike
I think that's a great call, Tim. Yeah, I think maybe we get teased this summer. We probably get the date in the fall and then. Yeah, this comes out. Springtime.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, there we go. Story number four, the Battlefield movie creates a bidding war between Netflix, Sony and other major studios. This one comes from Kate under at ign. A handful. Well, the chat's saying J cat's quest, saying January 31, 2027 is the actual 30th anniversary of Final Fantasy 7.
Mike
That's right in line.
Tim Gettys
I mean, come on. Come on. A handful of major Hollywood studios are going to war over the rights for the upcoming Battlefield movie. According to a new report from the Wrap, five key studios are in a bidding war over the film. Netflix, Warner Brothers, Sony, Universal and Amazon, mgm. Which is really interesting. This is the movie that we talked about a couple days ago, potentially Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who we know from the Mission Impossible movies, the recent Mission Impossibles, which is awesome. He was also a producer on Top Gun Maverick. You take those things, you take Battlefield and you add a little bit of Michael B. Jordan into that. We gotta win. Right? The interesting.
Mike
We got. Oh, wid.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, we.
Mike
You know, I'm not a believer in this how so? I just. There's nobody that you attach to Battlefield that makes it known. Right. Call of Duty, you know, Soap, you know, go shut the fuck up.
Tim Gettys
Oh, my God.
Mike
Battlefield has none of that. Unless you go bad company. But, like, there's no gamer out there that's going to be like, that's my ride or die guy. Yeah. Every Battlefield is just some private military corps or Battlefield hardline out there. And it's just like, yeah, this is Battlefield. Like, this is this movie.
Tim Gettys
No, no, Tim, here's the thing. I just love that you bring up Soap and Tavish in any positive way.
Mike
Soap Price, Ghosts are all iconic Call of Duty characters that anyone could be like, know that guy.
Tim Gettys
I wouldn't go that far.
Mike
Okay.
Tim Gettys
I wouldn't go that far. I don't know. But there's like, there's, I, I, I get your point.
Mike
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
I don't think that that's putting butts in seats in any way, shape or form. I agree with you that Battlefield has less to work with. I think that's a good thing. I think Battlefield, you don't need it. You're not adapting shit. You're adapting War. It's a war movie with. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie.
Mike
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
That has a way higher. With Michael fucking B. Jordan, that way higher chance of success Call of Duty than Call of Duty. Have you said that? Color does seem to be lining up pretty well, too. I don't remember the details on that side, but one thing I do love this year, the Impossible is happening. Street Fighter, the Movie. Mortal Kombat 2. The Movie. The Fighting Game.
Mike
Titans.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, Both have movies. Are we getting Battlefield and Call of Duty the same year just for the fun?
Mike
That would be insane. I mean, when we go back to this story, right, it's in a bidding war because everybody wants known ip, Right. Especially the two names attached to it, as you brought up, are heavy hitters as well. But, like, of course they're going to have a bidding war for Battlefield the movie. As like it's known we're in a video game. Like, everybody wants video game movies right now. Those two names attached to it. Yeah, the pot is like, it's simmering right now. I don't think the final product will be like, this is the greatest war movie ever. But I do expect, like, some good stunts out of it for sure. Good moments.
Tim Gettys
I don't know, man. In Christopher McQuarrie, I trust. I love that so much.
Mike
I love.
Tim Gettys
Oh, my God. Way more than soap. McDavish tell you that.
Mike
So Ghost Price, you Know him?
Tim Gettys
Yeah, but see that's the problem too is I think that like Open Slate, like of Battlefield, that's just like all that movie needs to adapt is things blowing up and destructible. In my favorite word.
Mike
Levolution.
Tim Gettys
Levolution. High scale vehicles, Michael B. Jordan. Like, that's all they got to do, right? They're not gonna piss people off. Like, oh man, they didn't get this right. They didn't get this right. Call of Duty, you put so big Tavish and Ghost in that there's going to be people be like, he's too short, you know. Story number five. Oh, I'm so happy we're getting to this one. Thanks to Musk vs Altman lawsuit, it's now public record that Gabe Newell emailed Elon Musk to get his pal Hideo Kojima a tour of SpaceX and OpenAI. This comes from Sean Sean Prescott at PC gamer. In 2018, Hideo Kojima visited Valve to talk about death stranding. Based on emails now public thanks to the ongoing Musk vs Altman lawsuit, Kojima and Gabe Newell seem to have hit it off, if they weren't already. Buddy, buddy. After the meeting, Newell promised to introduce Kojima to people at the then still not known OpenAI and also to Elon Musk. Musk of course owns SpaceX and Kojima has well known ambitions to go to space. Yeah, I want to let everyone know right now. That's the part of the article I read that I'm like, this is going in the show. Hideo Kojima. This is. This is the email that leaked. Okay. Hideo Kojima parentheses Metal Gear series, a real visionary in our field was here at Valve talking about his new game and he mentioned the import he places on future work in AI Newell wrote to Musk in late October 2018. Quote, I said I'd be happy to introduce him to the people at Open OpenAI and spoke enthusiastically about the work that team has done with us. I'm not sure how involved you are with them nowadays. The second thing is he was talking about how much he wants to go into space and I offered to introduce him to you. He'd love to get a Space X Tour. And then Musk was receptive saying, sure, it'd be great to meet Hideo Kojima and he's welcome to see the Rocket Factory. No problem. Send him my email. So all of that insane you think about Kojima, none of it is surprised. In fact, I think I first learned about AI in like the scary sense Metal Gear Solid 2 I was late to adopt Terminator and all that stuff. So, yeah, like, I was like, all right, cool. Yeah, Kojima's been there. You know where he hasn't been, though? Space. So this is a crazy thing in. By 2020, Kojima's desire to visit space still hadn't been fulfilled. In an interview with Jeff Keighley, Kojima said that he wanted to visit SpaceX with Newell, to which Elon Musk replied, you're welcome anytime. So there's a quote from Kojima that I need to read, everybody. All right? Quote. If I could have just one wish in my life, if I could cast a magic spell and make anything come true without hesitation, it would be this. I wish to go to space before I die. It doesn't have to be anything as extravagant as a trip to the moon or Mars. I would be satisfied with only a brief orbit just beyond Earth's atmosphere, where I can gently brush against outer space. I would give up anything to make that wish come true. My current place as a game designer, which I've built up for 45 years, I'm even prepared to throw away my family or my own life. That is how powerfully I, or rather, we yearn for the cosmos. Wow. Wow. That's powerful.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Wow.
Mike
Get this man's face asap. I feel it. I felt that quote. I feel it. Well, next time you see him, ask him if he's been to the rocket factory. That's like, so, like, super evil, Henry. Like, bring him to the rocket factory.
Tim Gettys
Bring him to the rocket factory, bro.
Mike
Oh, my God.
Tim Gettys
Oh, my.
Mike
So next time you see, you have to ask him.
Tim Gettys
Now, here's the thing. As I read all of that out loud, it was even more insane than I expected. Yeah. Because I read a couple and I was like, I'm just going to go for this.
Mike
Read the final line. You know it.
Tim Gettys
What?
Mike
I'm prepared to throw away my family or my own life.
Tim Gettys
Yeah. Yeah. That's when you know it's real.
Mike
Like, he gets a call. Ring, ring, Hideo, it's time. Next week, we're going to space. I need you to leave your family. He goes, goodbye, everyone. I love you, and never comes back.
Tim Gettys
Like, I'm having a moment right now where I'm like, did I just read some fucking, like, copy pasta shit? Like, was that real? And, like, it's credited to his book, the Creative G. Like, I need somebody to verify that this is real. Cause that's crazy.
Mike
Without hesitation, it would be this
Tim Gettys
rocket factory, Mike. Oh, man. If Kojima made it to Space. That would be such a big deal. But if I wanted to know about something way smaller, where would I look?
Mike
Tim, we keep it small. Let's go to the last news story, the We News Channel, where we cover all the small news items you need to know about.
Tim Gettys
First off, we have Pac Man Snatch Breaks.
Mike
Oh.
Tim Gettys
It's a new animated series premiering on Pac man day. This comes May 22nd.
Mike
Dope.
Tim Gettys
So, yeah, if you need some more Pac man in your life, watch the
Mike
Backyard Sports animated Series yet.
Tim Gettys
No one yet. I love that you say yet as if there's any chance.
Mike
I need you to watch it, Tim. Yeah, it's good.
Tim Gettys
Yeah. The description for this is saying Pac Man Snack Breaks is a new animated series where Pac Man's heading to New Pack City.
Mike
New Pack City.
Tim Gettys
Pac City. Pack Pack City.
Mike
Damn.
Tim Gettys
Then next up, we got our first look at Lois Griffin in Fortnite.
Mike
Saw it, saw it.
Tim Gettys
I saw Roger's the one that posted this. He was really excited. There she is. You hyped.
Mike
This is a must have character, Fortnite. This is. This is a high on the characters I need right now.
Tim Gettys
Dead or alive 6 last round is gonna cross over with the King of Fighters 14. My Sharonu and Kula diamond from the King of Fighters 14 are coming to Dead or Alive 6 last round as collaborative DLCs alongside the newly enhanced stage Lost Paradise A Boro. This is happening on June 25th. Everywhere. All platforms sick. And then cut the music, please, Kevin. Another sad one here to end out. Oh, I'm away for the stop before I said. But
Mike
hold on. Sorry, a little bit more complicated than that. The music's like really built into the system.
Tim Gettys
I mean, you can just cut the Wii News. There we go. Well, that's a different statement. Hold on.
Mike
That was a different page.
Tim Gettys
Hold on, let me go back to this.
Mike
And the whole button is a button. It's a button. It's a lot of buttons.
Tim Gettys
A lot of buttons.
Mike
It's a lot of buttons we laugh at. The level of technology that we have is insane here. Sorry, one more time. No, I know.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, I know. But it's just I had to go
Mike
back and turn it back on because.
Tim Gettys
All right, nice little reset.
Mike
Okay.
Tim Gettys
Pace Media puts the final nail in the coffin of a storied gaming legacy. The A.V. club has laid off its full time gaming editors as it's refocusing its resources on its core strengths. A movie and TV, they said. We regret the A.V. club couldn't be a home to expanded video games coverage. Once again, the company Wrote in a statement, this is a huge bummer. Obviously another very talented group of people losing their jobs. They AV club covered video games in a very unique way. I feel like the. Their writing was from a very personal perspective. This is a. Another huge hit to the industry. You hate to see it. I am so sorry about this. Oh yeah. Let's get to. You're wrong to see what we got wrong today.
Mike
People are going to say, mike, it's not Blizznet, it's Battle Net.
Tim Gettys
Got it. Oh my says Tim said my Shira knew, but it's pronounced my Shira nui. There we go. Someone said the way I pronounced something was a slur. And I apologize for that if that is the case. Obviously did not mean to do that. And then Jeff says, mike, have you played Danganronpa yet? It's really good.
Mike
I'm getting pulled everywhere, Tim. I'm trying to, you know, pander the audience the best I can.
Tim Gettys
A lot of people say the audience.
Mike
A lot of people say play Danganronpa. Shadow of the Colossus is on there. The Last Guardian Wind Waker for my birthday. Possibly. Tim could be the move.
Tim Gettys
Oh my God, Mike, you're living such a good life. That's crazy.
Mike
This weekend I gave you all the games that I already want to play, but this weekend I want to play a dope fighting game campaign that I've never played. I've played all the Mortal Kombats and Injustice.
Tim Gettys
Okay.
Mike
I'm not going to play those. I'm thinking it could be Tekken. A lot of people saying Tekken.
Tim Gettys
Oh yeah.
Mike
Is a lit campaign. Oh yeah. And I'm thinking about playing. Dude, I just want to play.
Tim Gettys
A fighting game campaign is a great place to be. A lot of fun. Over the top as hell. Music is insane. Have you downloaded it yet?
Mike
No.
Tim Gettys
Oh, what are you playing it on?
Mike
I would play it on like PC or Xbox, whatever.
Tim Gettys
Yeah. I don't know if this is gonna. I don't think the experience will do this on PlayStation. Okay. When you like Blade over different games, like music plays from the game.
Mike
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
I will Never uninstall Tekken 8 from my PlayStation 5 just because every time that I turn on all the music hits so goddamn hard and I'm just. I just need to live a little bit, you know. You're going to have a good time, that's all.
Mike
Yeah, I'm getting pulled all over the place. I don't know what Danganronpa is besides the teddy bears.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Mike
I was like, it's a maybe.
Tim Gettys
It's a maybe.
Mike
I got a big list. I'm going through it all.
Tim Gettys
I'm proud of you.
Mike
Thank you.
Tim Gettys
What? Oh, I love it. From the darkness over there. There's lights on us, so it's, like, kind of hard to see over there. Parents just right behind the camera. Did not know that he just. Murder mystery.
Mike
I got Return of the Obra. Dan. I want to play. I'm. I'm all over the place with games. I'll be there.
Tim Gettys
I'm there. Everybody, thank you so much for hanging out with us. Actually, let's get to a couple super chats before we end here. This is my Watte and Zelda fun for Mike.
Mike
What is that?
Tim Gettys
Wate and Zelda fun fund.
Mike
Oh, thank you so. Oh, water, water, water.
Tim Gettys
Probably water.
Mike
Thank you so much for this. Yeah, thank you for that super chat. And, yes, you are now funding me to play the next Zelda game. I appreciate that.
Tim Gettys
Yep. Yep.
Mike
Wind Waker. I was gonna go Twilight Princess on him. Now I go Wind Waker.
Tim Gettys
I mean, you're gonna do both. I mean, if you're this in, like, you're in.
Mike
I'm already so deep in. It's great.
Tim Gettys
Oh, man, you're getting cultured. Love it. JSON, Peter says, has Mike beaten Twilight Princess? I know it's an unpopular opinion, but that's my favorite. You know, I actually don't think that that's an unpopular opinion. Okay. I think that there's, like, a. There's a handful of Zelda games that being someone's favorite is, like, an incredibly valid opinion. Like, there's. I think the ones. I think Ocarina is, like, the only exception of, like, because of how revolutionary it was. It gets the most conversation. But I do think that, like, especially in terms of the word favorite, it's like, you know, there's. Hey, there's arguments to be made for Majora's Mask, Ocarina, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess. I'd say almost equally. Joshy Frog says, should we project Hail Mary Kojima and see what game he sends us? That was the most insane thing I've ever read.
Mike
At the end of it all, does he get the space?
Tim Gettys
I want to believe it feels like
Mike
he'd be a perfect candidate to, like, just send him up to the orbit, Let him get up there, and then
Tim Gettys
let him bury it.
Mike
Yeah, let him bury it.
Tim Gettys
Aaron Ambrose.
Mike
Justin Bieber said, oh, thank God he's got YouTube Premium. I can't imagine ads right now.
Tim Gettys
Come on. Come on. Aaron Ambrose says, good morning, Tim and Mike. Mike, I just gotta let you know that our Adelaide Crows had a one point win in the afl.
Mike
I'm big in Australia. Keeping an eye out on the afl. You know, that could become the mayor of Perth one day.
Tim Gettys
He says that I'm big in Australia. I look over, Barrett's just shaking his head.
Mike
Big in Australia.
Tim Gettys
Big in Australia, everybody. Aaron Lime says Capcom's cooking. Konami's picking up. Come on, Sega. Hey, Mega game coming soon. The SEGA Mega Game.
Mike
Okay.
Tim Gettys
Super SEGA Mega game.
Mike
Crazy taxi.
Tim Gettys
Here we go. The final one. Kyle Jones saying invincible versus just came out. It's a new fighting game with. With the story mode I saw only last like an hour.
Mike
Okay. Oh, my God. I gotta get done. I gotta get on my invincible bs. It's time to watch.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Mike
I dropped it.
Tim Gettys
Okay.
Mike
During the first season. Middle break never went back.
Tim Gettys
It's time to get back on second season with the break. Yeah.
Mike
Yeah. Which everyone had the long ass break where I was like, what are we doing here?
Tim Gettys
Well, there you go, everybody. That was games daily. For what it's worth. We had some good times, we had some bad times.
Mike
We had a lot of laughter.
Tim Gettys
We did have a lot of laughter.
Mike
He said, I'll leave my family tomorrow at a chance to go to space.
Tim Gettys
Can somebody please verify if that's real?
Mike
I need to know he'll leave work and his family.
Tim Gettys
I own the book I need when I get home. I'm going to look at that anyway. We're about to do an awesome gamescast. Please stay tuned for that until next time. I love you all. Goodbye.
