I hate it. You know what I mean? It doesn't feel weird at all because, of course, technology's come so far. We're so good at this. You and I got the whole. We got the dynamics, Barrett's on the ones and twos, everything. It feels like I'm there. You know what I mean? We're not doing the whole like, oh, I'm sure we will at some point during this, but yeah, it's just. I just want to be there. I just want to be where the people are. I'm like Ariel and the Little Mermaid.

Do you feel bad for holding Roger back? Because this feels like a holding Roger back maneuver of, oh, I got to stay home to work today instead of having Roger host ktd. I'm just going to do it from home. Screw Roger. I'm just going to keep him at his desk editing videos.

Here's the thing is, all I ever hear from you guys is how overworked you are. And so, like, I know that none of you are strong enough to, you know, put the company on your back like I do. So if I did that, Roger would have a mental breakdown, and then he'd make a bunch of mistakes on thumbnails. He'd be putting Mario where he wants to put Master Chief and be a whole thing. And I'm just. I'm not about that.

It was good. It was a good fall weekend, you know? Yeah. Like, I had. I. I Wanted to, I think, relax somewhat this weekend and, like, work on playing some games. Sure. But PSN went down, which kind of threw that for a loop. Because I wanted to play Outer Wilds and then also, like, console gaming.

Dude, Barrett, when I tell you that this pushed me to the brink of, like, do I throw the PS5 out the window and just go full in on my PC and Steamboy? Because, yeah, like, I went home and I was like, oh, man. Because I had a moment at work where I played more Outer Wilds and I played maybe like an hour or two of Outer Wilds on my desk and I was like, oh, this is starting to click. I think I'm actually starting to, like, get it. I think I'm actually starting to enjoy this game. I can't wait to get home later.

How many hours into this game are you? You're playing this ancient game? Well, I keep on the avowed review this week to be like, here's the differences between X, Y and Z. I.

Keep restarting the game because I started and then I stopped and then like, too much time passes and I'm like, oh, well, if I'm gonna pick it back up, I'm gonna have to, like, start from the beginning. And so in the true themes of the video game, I keep restarting it over and over again. And so this is like, maybe, honestly, if I'm being genuine about this, my fourth or fifth time picking up Outer Wilds, and now on this single singular playthrough, I'm maybe eight hours in. Eight or nine hours in. And in the last.

How many? So how far into the game? I, I, I, of course, time loop game. You know, you're flying a tre. I've played Outer Wilds a bit or whatever. Yeah, how, how much? I mean, how are you committed to it? Do I need to get you on for a gamescast review of Outer Wilds?

I think I'm committed to it. Again, it's coming down now to time.

And it's review season out here because.

Review season has started up. But I think I am committed because I wanted, I want to have it done for our Top 100 Games conversation that we'll have later in the year, because I know this is one that if I, if I were to finish this game, I think could be in the conversation for me because on paper, everything about it is a blessing type of game. And now that I'm far enough into it, I am starting, like, those things are starting to pull me in as far as me being like, okay, I know this about this thing. Let me go over here to research this thing a bit more. Oh, but I remember that this like, you know, this thing, this review here changes the context of this thing that I was looking at over here. So now I got to come back. So that stuff has started to click a bit more for me in ways where I'm like when I'm not now, when I'm not playing Outer Wilds, I am thinking about it and that is like a very good sign of oh, okay. This is the game I want to see through. The problem is that I had those moments of man. I, I really enjoyed the session today. I want to get back to Outer Wilds and then I get home and I try to play it on PlayStation and my save was stuck at work.

For like a whole day. I couldn't play more Outer Wilds because my save was stuck at work.

And I was like, I'm not. What really sucks is that you're just so far from work, you're so busy and you live so far away from work. There's no way you could get that save.

Yeah, but like what am I supposed to, I supposed to put it on a usb? Cuz I couldn't. Yeah, I can't upload it to the cloud.

[Greg Miller]

Just bring a usb.

That's how we used to do back in the day. Do I come here, take my PS5, take it back home. I don't even know if like, do they make USBs anymore? Is that a thing? I've not seen a USB in like years at this point.

How many goddamn flash drives do you have? All the events you go to. You go to every video game event, they give you a branded flash drive.

You know, they give us, we go there, they give us the. You play for eight hours, they give you a flash drive, we don't do anything with it. Barrett asked if we have footage, we give it to him two minutes before we go live. He's like, I'm just going to pull up a trail. Yeah, you got the flash drive?

Honestly, I don't think I've ever put a USB into my PS5. So I don't even know what would happen. I don't even know what that would do to my PS5.

You wouldn't, you wouldn't have made it back in the day. Remember when I was working at IGN, people are popping their Xbox 360 hard drives off to take home so they could keep reviewing.

You know, overall, fine. It was the thing of. So Friday we all woke up and Jen looked at Ben, took one look at. He's like, he's not going to make it to school today. And I'm like, no, no, he's fine. He's not. At the end, he went to school and they immediately sent him home. And then, of course, Ben developed a fever throughout Friday and had a fever throughout Friday. The Saturday, he tested positive for the flu. So this little guy was just going through it, but not like his spirits were high. It was just, you know, he's hot. And so then, like, that fever broke going into Sunday, but then Jen got it bad yesterday. So I. I'm fine. Like, I feel great. But right now, Jen's taking care of Ben because he's also home today. So it's one of those, if Jen goes down, I have to be here to do that. So that all sucked. But then, of course, I just reviewed about all weekend, so I wouldn't even know anything about these PSN problems, all right? Because I, you know, am I playing it on the Xbox? Am I playing it on a remote play? Am I playing to play anywhere on the PC? You know, the only thing I can't do because it's not out is put it on cloud. But I was out there. I was playing about. You'll hear about it this week.

Well, we. What mean you should do? You should hold a crucifixion of the PS5s. I think we should gather our PS5s, put them on a stake and just burn the stake.

All right, first off, Demon Hacker Super Chat says you can't transfer PS5 saves via USB. Is that true?

Well, no, they're saves. So they wouldn't be on. I don't know. I don't know how that works.

Is that true though? Like they took that away from PS4, from PS3, PS4. I don't saves all the time.

I think saves. You should be fine, right? There's no reason.

Because what I do nowadays with the PS5 is when I can't upload to the network because of embargoes, I transfer all my photos, my screenshots to the usb. So I would have assumed the saves data was still there.

Kebab works for PS4 saves, but not PS5s.

Yeah, AK says PS5 took away the ability to put saves on the USB drive. Only option is PlayStation plus cloud syncing. But you can still use a USB drive for PS4 games.

But outer wireless PS4 game, right?

No PS5. I'm playing the PS5 version.

Number one, the PSN. That's the PlayStation Network. Everybody is back. Sony apologizes with PlayStation plus gift to players this is Andy Robinson over at VGC. After nearly 24 hours of downtime, PS5 PSN online service was restored on Saturday and Sony has apologized with a free gift to players. Quote, Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue, the company wrote in a statement. Quote, we apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience. All PlayStation plus members will automatically receive an additional five days of service, end quote. Reports of PSN going offline started appearing in the early hours of Saturday morning, and Sony reported the issue had been resolved at nearly midnight. There's still no explanation for the PSN downtime, which left many players unable to access any online services, access their library of digital games, or pair new PlayStation 5 disk drives. It's like, okay, access their library. Of course. Online services, of course pair a new PlayStation 5 disk drive how. How many did I get? The double digits Were there double digit people, like, all set. Like, I can't get my phone.

If you bought a PS5 Slim or Pro Pro. If you bought a PS5 Pro, maybe. And like, you brought it home one day.

But of course, if you, you know, don't know, go into your PlayStation 5, set it as your home console so you can play your library offline. I think that's something a lot of people skip past, don't pay attention to, don't think about and something like this happens and you're locked out for a day. Wouldn't have helped Blessing, of course, because he's trying to get a save that's between two PS5s.

But yeah, and I think the fascinating part about it this time around versus like what has happened previous times, because you're right that this hasn't, this doesn't happen all, all the time, at least anymore. There was a time where I feel like every around Christmas PSN would go down because like DDoS attacks like year over year, just haters wanted to ruin Christmas for PlayStation gamers. For some reason that's not happened as much. And of course I think whenever this happens, people go back to the big One of the 2011 outage that lasts for what, 30 days? Greg?

I can't play Call of Duty online. I can't play like XYZ game online. But at the very least, like I can still play probably the majority of things that I still own when this happens in 2025, like it was the wake up call to me of like, oh wow, I can't play like these games. Oh wow. Like these like, these single player games I play are always online. Like, damn. So I think maybe it sticks out to people a bit more when it happens nowadays, which I think would lead to the amount of Reddit freakouts that I think me and you saw over.

The weekend when you're like, is PSN that. I'm like, oh yeah, Reddit's freaking out. I just kept sending you link and screenshot after screenshot.

Yeah, but ultimately, like, it's 18 hours. I don't think it's the. It's the biggest deal, but I think it's. It's the, it's the tough thing of. It happened once for 23 days. So now whenever it happens, it's that scary thing of, oh, no, is it the one. It's like when a big earthquake happens in San Francisco and like, people are like, now when everything shake, people are like, all right, is it. Is everything going down now? Like, are the buildings in the topple? Like, what's going to happen here?

Yeah, you're right. And I think, you know, I saw, I have the chat pulled up. I see people saying that big of a deal wasn't even 24 hours. Well, we can say all that, but when it is, this is your chance to play. The kids asleep. You finally got the day off work. It's just your Saturday, it's your weekend and you sit down and you get caught up in the, oh, well, I didn't turn this PlayStation into my home unit. So it doesn't think. And I can't say blessing, can't get it. It's like all these little things, like, they're inconveniences, sure, but they fucking suck. And they ruined the day that you had planned in your head, right? Like, I can't tell you the amount of times I've had it for. Mainly for reviews of, oh, well, this doesn't work the way it's supposed to yet, or this that the other. I run into some issue that just sucks and ruins it and then I'm all pissed off about it. Like, I get it 100% and of course it's annoying. And it is obviously an ongoing conversation that so many people have been fired up about the digital future and not really owning your games. And, you know, so many of our audience members who do want physical for the rest of their life and don't want the digital, all these different things. And then even to jump in here and like, oh, you can't transfer your PS5 save off a USB. That's stupid. You know what I mean?

There's a bunch of stuff going on like, I couldn't use my portal, which makes sense, right? Of like, oh, well, this is just a brick now until this gets fixed. I think also a good thing to point out with it is one, there was very little communication. They didn't really communicate at all about it.

There was one Tweet from Ask PlayStation that like, that Was basically like, oh, yeah, things are down. We're working on it. And I was, I think, six hours into it, and then the next thing we heard was a day later of them being like, okay, it's back. So I think there's that. And then also the unfortunate timing of it being, what, 6pm on a Friday and all, and like most of a Saturday. That's just unfortunate timing of people coming home from work being like, man, I can't wait to spend the my next my weekend playing XYZ game and then not being able to do it.

I mean, in the live chat, right over in super chats, Mitchell felt this resubscribed for 13 months in a row and says, I was going to play Monster Hunter with my friends after work. And I wasn't able to. Right. There was a beta for Monster Hunter Wilds happening right here. So it is this whole issue of that, you know, of course, kind of funny is a action RPG expert. Zanf texted me was like, yo, you got to tell PlayStation to figure this out. It's weird to be on a treadmill and not be playing Path of Exile or Diablo. Like there are, you know, it's just the way this all functions into people's lives. And it is the usual thing I talk about all the time, even with our content, right? Of being there when people want you to be there is what it's all about. Because, of course, if you're not, then you get replaced in the same way you're talking about, Right? It reminds me of that Simpsons episode, right? Where the cable gets cut or whatever, and they're all watching tv and it. It's a message to the Wiggums of just like, it's everybody, but it's playing on TV. You're just like, you know, your TV's down. Don't panic and don't try to engage in sexual intercourse. Like, it's just like stopping them from finding something more fun to do. Right? It's the same thing here of like, this happens to you. And you're like, well, I have all these Steam games. Steam's working. I have Xbox game Pass that's working. Why not jump over there and try to go into something that way?

What a fucking. Like, it was like when it was happening. Sony. Everybody's like, oh, I can't wait to see what game they gave us. Remember when they gave us infamous? Remember when they gave us this blah, blah. Then this fucking. You nailed it. This goddamn severance quote, all PlayStation plus member will automatically receive an additional five days of service. Don't give me nothing at that point. Give me nothing at that too.

Like, that's the thing is I don't want to. I don't want to shoot a corporation bail. But like, it is one of those things where I'm like, man, we're so entitled thinking that after 18 hours of it being down, oh, you're going to give me God of War Ragnarok. Like, give me Spider Man 2. Like, yeah, five days. Giving us more service for the people that. Yeah, like, I can use my PSN that I paid for for 18 hours. Yeah, like, give me that time of service. It makes sense the way they're doing this, but it is just funny to read out loud of like, oh, yeah, you'll get an additional five days. Because I read that and I'm like, all right, cool, I guess, whatever. Yeah, I'm gonna have it forever anyway. Like, I'll turn off PSN when I'm dead, I guess.

Well, I'll just say the one, I think one last thing on this is also like the idea of your own security of passwords, information. Like the lack of communication on this, I think put people in a panic because again, this can stretch out to so many what if scenarios of, all right, are my passwords compromised? Do I need to change things? Like, is my. My credit card info is tied to my PlayStation? I. I think the one big misstep they had here is just the lack of communication over the 18 hours. I don't think one tweet is enough to address this when we've seen this happen before and it has led to people having to, like, take precautions when it comes to their personal information. So for sure, I think that's the one thing where they could have done a lot better.

Let's move on to story number two and stay in the PlayStation ecosystem. Number two. Insomniac Games pitched Resistance 4, but never got it approved. This is Matt Kim at IGN. There was apparently a real push to get Resistance 4 made by the folks over at Insomniac Games, but unfortunately, the game never received the green light. Insomniac's founder and outgoing president, Ted Price is sitting down for interviews now that it's been announced he's retiring after 30 years at the helm of the studio. He most recently hung out with kind of Funny Games for a chat and was asked if there was a favorite game of his that was pitched but never made it, to which he gave his answer, quote, yeah, I'll share 1. Resistance 4. According to Price, he and the developers, quote, did pitch that one and it was a wonderful concept and it just, in terms of timing and market opportunity, didn't work out, end quote. He added that the Insomniac team were passionate about extending the story further because I do believe that Resistance has Set up a really cool alternate history base where anything can happen with the Chimera and where they go and what their origins are. I knew this would be one of the ones that got made the rounds before we even get into it. What was your history with Resistance was.

So I bought Resistance 3 and I started playing it at home and I was like, this doesn't really do much for me. Yeah. I don't know. I think maybe I just needed to play with friends. Like, I don't know why I didn't hit up Lillian and Stevie be like, yo, come through.

Well, I think even like Resistance 3 was, I think so different than Resistance 1 and 2. Right.

What if they were talking about co op. Yeah. Three was when it was like, even though it wasn't, it was way more in line with, I think what you think of, of a PlayStation game now when people want to make fun of it. Right. Of like a dad. A dad having to do dad things. Like that's what Resistance 3 was, right? Yeah. He had to set off to stop the Chimera because of his son. And it was like, okay, cool. Yeah, yeah. This is, I, I, it's interesting because I've heard a lot about Resistance for, throughout the years and conversations and I, I, I'm never sure how much is actually public. And so to see Ted come out and just make the rounds, I was like, oh, that's interesting that I guess I thought this was maybe more well known than I thought it was that this happened to it again. I personally believe it's for the best. I understand Insomniac wanting to make Resistance four. I understand them wanting to continue on the Resistance thing. I just think that PlayStation making first person shooters isn't the way to go, necessarily. And I think Resistance 3 showed resistance. Three? Well, my favorite resistance, of course, is the PSP one. Resistance. Nathan Grayson. I'm out there. I'm in a leather jacket.

Then I would put Resistance 3 right behind it because I did really enjoy that story. I thought it was. I. I've never been one for the hoorah, where the army, where the military, we're going out and doing that kind of thing in a first person shooter. So Resistance 3, story of like, literally, like, I'm trying to have a nice life, but you got to pick up your gun and go do this for your family. I. That worked for me in terms of a narrative. And I think, yeah, it was the prototypical PlayStation. What I'm dialing to a conversation about Resistance 4 is that I just feel like Resistance in general. I mean, obviously being a launch title for the PlayStation 3 and hearing Ted talk about that and how hard that was to get going. Even doubling back a little bit to shoe was on our shows talking about how hard it was for PlayStation 3 launch games, Resistance and Kill Zone and all that stuff while they have this lineage. Like I just don't think in a. The current market is. Whereas Resistance 4 would have been launching. We needed a first person shooter that way. And so many people look to those franchises to be the Call of duty of PlayStation. I just don't think you need that. And so then you get into a weird thing of what four would actually be. And I know Colin was always so adamant that we've never actually seen a Chimera. I don't remember the lore this well, but they were all implanted in the ground, right? And then they. They took over human bodies. So these Chimera aren't even the real Chimera. Like blah, blah, blah. I going to the Chimera planet and killing them never did much for me that then. Now we're going from being too much like Call of Duty to being probably too much like Halo. Bless.

Gotcha. Which like, I mean this makes me feel like the this game not going through is probably the best decision because you look at Insomnia now and they're thriving, right? Like I think the projects that they went with, assuming this is post Resistance three. So I'm looking at them as doing Sunset Overdrive and then I assume they did the Ratchet and clank remake in 2016. That must have been them, right? Because they just do all the Ratchet games.

So. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So. So I have their timeline looked up and this is me and Ted went through the entire timeline and talked about all of this. One of the. You see Resistance 3 happen in 2011, right? And then, yeah, they do all for one. They do Full Frontal Assault PlayStation for Ratchet, right. But then they go on this like I what I consider a walkabout, right? Where it's like they go and they do outro knots for iOS, fuse for PlayStation 3 and Xbox, right. Ratchet for PS3, Sunset Overdrive for Xbox, Slow down bowl for Windows, Mac and Linux. I don't know if that was Fruit Fusion, Bad Dinos and Digit and dash for iOS and then ratchet and clank for PlayStation 4. Right. But then they're still in Song of the Deep, which means so much to me. Then they're doing Edge of Nowhere. The unspoken, like, all this stuff before they come back to PlayStation and then become obviously a PlayStation studio, but come back to PlayStation in 2018. And I really feel some of that is the failure. I'm sorry. Yeah, not the failure, but the failure to get approval for Resistance 4. I think when you look at this lineup in PlayStations, like, we don't want a resistance for. They go, okay, well, we're putting that down. And then what else do we want to try? And they try all this stuff where, of course, Fuse, they partner with EA and I think are treated pretty badly there. Sunset Overdrive, Partner with Xbox, right. For an Xbox One game. And just doesn't get. As our cult favorite, cult classic, but doesn't achieve those levels of whatever for them to come back and then become the Spider man studio. Become my PlayStation first party. Officially. Like, I think that is the best thing. And I think it's kind of like, you know, bless. I know you know this well. You're dating somebody. You. You're like. But you're like, are we in? Are we out? What are we doing? I don't know. And you go, let's break up. Let's take a break. Or something like that, right? Like, I do not know what's going on with the Lego building, whatever the hell it's called right now, but it's like, like, okay, yeah, Is Disney enough to bring in a bunch of different people to do this? Maybe. Probably. You know what I mean? Like, I know that, like, you know, Joey still loves Disney. Dreamlight Valley. I know how many people like Disney Infinity. I think you put Disney into a free game that then has microtransactions this way. But I just don't know what you're doing on those islands to justify why you'd want to jump in over and over again.

Yeah, I need to see what the concept is, I think, not worry because I think there's enough money behind it. And I think the thing about IP power is that IP power is enough to at least I think, get a baseline number of people in. Oh, there's a Disney Fortnite happening. Therefore, it's anticipated that GTA 6 will come to PC following its PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series XS release this fall, even if that has yet to be confirmed. In an interview with IGN.com, take Two boss Zelnick discussed the growing importance of the PC gaming business and the publisher strategy for releasing titles titles for the platform. Quote. So with Civilization 7, it's available on console and PC and switch right away. I like how he doesn't count. He does not count switches of console, he said. For Exes is a recently released game. I will say I started watching Insecure last summer. I have only gotten to the end of season two, but Let me tell you, that show's awesome. I love, I love Insecure Issa, right? She's like, she's on another level.
