I'm happy you're wearing this chalk line shirt, this jacket. I just don't see it that much from you. It's not the rotation.
Tim Gettys
It got hidden a little too hidden, you know what I mean? And Then I tucked away. It was pushed back. I don't know how it got here. I do, but I don't want to blame her. It got put behind my. My, like, suit jackets. Got it in the closet.
Greg Miller
Do you think this was on purpose? Was this Gia making a move of. She doesn't like the jacket.
Tim Gettys
No, no. It was clearly an accident. It was clearly. This was like out next to my bed. Someone was coming over, got it, like,
Greg Miller
tossed it in there.
Tim Gettys
Gotta toss it in.
Greg Miller
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Tim Gettys
But no, I saw it in my. Oh. Oh, yeah. It's back, baby.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
Because I don't have enough excuses to bust out the gold shoes, you know?
Greg Miller
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So, yeah, you're a stiff individual, aren't you?
Tim Gettys
I'm very stiff. Oh, it's bad, dude. I'm getting crap by the day.
Greg Miller
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I usually get stiff at night. You know what I mean?
Tim Gettys
We're doing this in the morning.
Greg Miller
What?
Tim Gettys
The energy. You know what I mean? Slow news day today.
Greg Miller
Everybody, Everybody, I'm sorry that I'm Greg Miller and I'm vibrating with energy every goddamn second of my life, all right? This guy went off and had a kid and forgot what it's like around here. But I'll remind him every day he's in the shark cage, all right?
Tim Gettys
Do you know how many people told me to apologize yesterday?
Greg Miller
Did you? Did you?
Tim Gettys
I still don't understand the context in which I'm supposed to apologize.
Greg Miller
You doubted me. You doubted me. You know what I mean?
Tim Gettys
You presented Nakey Jakey in a bad light at first.
Greg Miller
You didn't set me up. You set me up and I got out of it.
Tim Gettys
That's it. You know what I mean?
Greg Miller
And now he has a new best friend, Spider Man.
Tim Gettys
I got out of the trap. I'll have to think about this.

You're flying by.
Tim Gettys
Tim, I. I put some links here. I want to talk about real quick. I put them in a weird spot, though. I should have put them underneath.
Greg Miller
You put them after we say a baker and you say now. I want to talk about that. So let me Just get out. Then of course we couldn't do this show that our patreon producers on patreon.com kind of funny. But you could also go to patreon.com, set up a free account and guess what? You can check quips there now and you'd see that there's a new quip up for a new kind of feudi poll that I will be shutting down before noon because I have to get in the assets to Roger. Sam, what are your links?
Tim Gettys
Very, very exciting thing. Ninty Media once again putting out another coffee book based on some video games. Something very near and dear to my heart. Covering Pokemon Generation One. Celebrating, of course, 30 years of Pokemon. Covering the games, anime, movies, trading card game and more. All, all of it. They got a ton of super, super, super cool writers together to to write about different aspects of Pokemon's 30 years, specifically focusing on generation one. But it kind of, you know, bleeds into everything because if you were there at the beginning, chances are you're still there somewhat now, right? Nine generations later. But there's a lot of incredibly talented writers working on this. And then there's also me. Barrett, if you could bring up the other.
Greg Miller
What up?
Tim Gettys
They asked me to write the forward for this book, which is really cool. They asked if I had any pictures of me around that time involving Pokemon. And I had this amazing picture of me pointing at Caterpie, my favorite Pokemon.
Greg Miller
So wait, is there a Kickstarter for it?
Tim Gettys
Is that there is a Kickstarter right now that you can go to to to check this out. It's called Poke Book, the unofficial companion to Generation One. You can check them out. The Ninty Media N I n T Y media to go support the book. Back it, get it. They're saying if you haven't backed one of our projects before, these are history books filled with bespoke images, photography and information. G if you love Pokemon in Generation One, you're going to love this. Yeah. Very, very honored that I got to be a part of this. Write the forward for this, celebrate 30 years of Pokemon. And I, I, I, I like what I wrote, you know, I, it was funny because like I reread it and I'm like, yeah, this, this I I did this. I did this very in my voice, very in my voice to the point that I told them. I was like, hey, I'm a talker not a writer. You know what I mean? Like, if I was performing this script, it'd be a banger.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
Reading it in a book. Y' all can edit it however you need to edit. So we'll see what that all turns into in the final product. But very proud of it. Very honored. And yeah, go check it out.
Greg Miller
I am checking it out. You'll have to do the intro to the show to where we're at, the next thing. Because I of course, love you, Timothy, and love when you get to do stuff like this. So I am of course backing on Kickstarter right now and I'm adding enamel pins. I'm getting Jenna Gengar. I'm getting Ben the Eevee.
Tim Gettys
Okay.
Greg Miller
And then I'm just scrolling and scrolling and scrolling to see. I know he wouldn't be Gen1, but do they have a hawlucha on here? Are they doing like that? They don't.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, unfortunately. I like.
Greg Miller
I mean, I. For the record, I thought we're gonna have. It was like, do you want to add a pin? And I was like, you're gonna have the starters. And then they went deep. So how deep are we going? How deep are we going?
Tim Gettys
How deep is your love?
Greg Miller
How deep?
Tim Gettys
Let's begin with what is and forever will be the ROPA report. It's time for some news. We have eight stories today.

Tim Gettys

Greg Miller
You know how it's done. Thank you, Greg Miller. It's been done.
Tim Gettys
Story number one. We know we have work to do.
Greg Miller
Xbox's Asha Sharma comments on latest financial. As Xbox revenue declines again, this is the one, the only Chris Scullion at vgc. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma says there's still work to be done as Microsoft's latest financial reports show another decline in revenue for the Xbox division. Microsoft's Q3 earnings report for the first three month period or for the three month period ending March 31st showed that Xbox content and services revenue was down 5% based on the same period last year. Hardware revenue, meanwhile, declined 33% year on year. This is currently a reoccurring situation for Xbox. Its Q2 earnings results also showed a year on year decline of 5% and 32% respectively, while Q1 showed a growth of 1% in content and services, but a 20%, 29% decline in hardware revenue. Reacting to the latest financial results, Sharma, who took over for Phil Spencer in late February and therefore wasn't in charge during most of the Q3 fiscal period, posted on X that Xbox will have to continue to work hard to turn around its fortunes. Xbox earnings today While we have made progress expanding the business and our margins player and revenue growth has not yet met our ambition, we know we have work to do to earn every player today and into the future, end quote. During an earnings call discussing the latest financial results, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella made a number of references to Xbox, noting that quote, unquote, foundational work is currently being put in place to win back fans and strengthen engagement. Nadella said the Xbox team quote, is recommitting to our core fans and players and shaping the future of play, adding quote, last week's Game Pass changes are one example of how we are staying responsive to customer feedback. He also noted that Xbox set new records for monthly Xbox Active users in the quarter as well as game streaming hours. During the same presentation, Microsoft CFO Amy Hood warned that a quick turnaround for Xbox isn't realistic and that it expects to see year on year declines in the Q4 period ending June 32.
Tim Gettys
Happy Birthday.
Greg Miller
Happy birthday. Maybe Xbox dies on that day for you.
Tim Gettys
May probably not.
Greg Miller
Probably not. No, no, no. But definitely another blow to the ongoing saga of Xbox.
Tim Gettys
But is it though?
Greg Miller
None of this is shocking, right? This is the whole point of what we're doing. If anything, I thought it was interesting last night as we were settling into end of day slash, going to home and hanging out the tweet or X from Asha. Right. That was like, hey, it's gonna be bad. Hey, the fiscal reports are in and yeah, it's not, it's not good. Like that's why I'm here.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, it's kind of facts and that's where the whole thing is. And yeah, it's like it's not like there's some miracle that was going to happen. Like we, we've been following this, we've been covering this. There's been an Xbox headline every other day for the last year. Right. So there's no world in which all of a sudden it's like, oh wow, it's way better than expected. I was doing a thought exercise in the shower this morning about.
Greg Miller
Sure you were.
Tim Gettys
And I was thinking in a hypothetical what if world that clearly doesn't exist and so much would have had to change for this to be the case. What if Game Pass never existed? What if they Kept going. And every game that they released that we, we've had in the last five plus years, first party Xbox game. And let's say that all the Activision and Bethesda games were exclusive. If they just kept things how things used to be in the console wars, what would the hardware sales look like? Right. And I'm saying that means Call of Duty, just the last two recent ones, I guess, and Starfield was exclusive, but no putting things on other platforms, none of that. We just. All of our first party games are exclusive. Would that, would that have been enough? Because if that's enough, the hardware sales.
Greg Miller
The hardware sales would be way better than this.
Tim Gettys
Yeah. Close to PlayStation 5.
Greg Miller
No.
Tim Gettys
And so that's crazy, right? Because I feel like that's the thing is it's like they're, they're losing. Like we talk about this as if they're losing and it's like, all right, well they're still making money overall because they're publishers and now they own all these games and stuff. But it's just I think important to kind of frame some context there of like there's no world in which we can create a scenario that they sell more than PlayStation 5 or even close does it feel like. And so that's, that's just an interesting conundrum to be in.
Greg Miller
Yeah, I think, you know, it's the same conversation you've heard Phil and Sarah and Asha to some degree say, right, of this, this begins and ends with games, right? They need to have game of the year caliber games. You know, Matt Booty's talked about this before too. And this is something in the years of covering Xbox, they've talked about it. They wanted at least a quarter every quarter. Right. To have like a big Xbox game out there that would have challenged the world, shaken it up, you know, been a game of the year contender at the TGA's and that just hasn't happened with the output of Xbox. And that's where I think you come in and talk about this hypothetical world. And it is fascinating of like. Yeah, no, like, especially though. And I'm obviously not a Call of Duty fan, I'm not a hater, but I mean I don't know the product well. I know the recent entries haven't been well received of these are the greatest things of all time.
Tim Gettys
That's not true though. The last year's wasn't the year before
Greg Miller
that was at the greatest of all time.
Tim Gettys
Not greatest of all time, but one of one of the better. Like, yeah, I do think that There was like genuine enthusiasm, excitement, great reviews. Like, I. I think that they had a hit. Call of Duty. Okay. I do think it was a big one. Like, I think as big as it could be even, like. Because I don't know if we'll ever be able to get to that golden age heyday.
Greg Miller
And see, that's my. Where I'm. I'm sorry. That's what I'm talking about in terms of where we're at. Of. You have to imagine this has some of those telltale complaints we have when we talk about these companies trying to make another fortnight. Trying to be. Fortnight. Fortnight. Trying to be Fortnite. Where it's like, Call of Duty is the biggest thing in the world. Yada, yada, yada. And it's like, well, it's still humongous, obviously, but it's not our lives. Stop. Everybody's doing this thing. All eyes are on that game anymore. Like, it used to be like you're chasing a ghost there to some degree.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Greg Miller
Can you get back to that?
Tim Gettys
See, I don't know that I agree with that. Just because it's like. Sure. In terms of like conversation and geist. Because like there has so much. So there's so much to do. But it's like you look at the numbers and that's just not true. Right. It's like it is still selling as well. It is still still having as many, if not more concurrent players and all that stuff. So it's like, I think that the. The most you can ask from a Call of Duty is was it a good one this year?
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
Or did. Did it not hit the mark? And I think that last year's into the mark the year before did. But to your point about the Matt Booty stuff, like, I never took that as them trying to have a Game of the Year contender every four months or whatever it was. Right. I thought it was consistent Xbox first party games and I think that they very much did that. It's just. Yeah, there wasn't any of those. Like, besides Fora. Which we can't discredit. Right. So there was a very steady cadence the last couple years. Like when we look back, it's like. And it's just sheer numbers because of how many developers that they own and publishers even at this point with Bethesda and Activision. So. Yeah. I don't know. It's just. It's just kind of concerning to think about, like the. The raw data of it all of. Because I always am talking about the game Pass like, just my takes on game pass. But, like, it's just kind of crazy to me to think that I even don't believe that it would help them win if they didn't have that and they did everything else, like, quote unquote, the old school. Right way.
Greg Miller
Yeah. Well, I think again, it comes back to these games they're putting out there.
Tim Gettys
Okay, cool.
Greg Miller
They're hitting one a quarter maybe, but they're putting out games that I just don't think are getting the nines, the tens, the things you need to be. Right. We're talking about south of Midnight, which you really liked. I really liked. Not the combat of it, but I really enjoyed the game. But we're talking about games that are 7, Fives, Eights, Outer Worlds 2. A game I fucking adored. Right. But did not resonate with this. And these are the games you're starting to see the brand and Xbox game pass be associated with. And when you become associated with, oh, well, these games are less than. That's why I would get a game pass. That's why I would do this thing. Then you fall into Starfield. The game, obviously, I adore did not live up to the hype, admittedly, like, you put all these things together and you are tarnishing the Xbox brand.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Greg Miller
You know what I mean? But you're lessening, you're watering it down.
Tim Gettys
But then you look on the PlayStation side and it's like, what have they done for me lately? Right. It's just like when we compare it and I. It's still there. Is that like, I'm not. Y' all know where I stand on all of this. But it's like, well, Nintendo, but also more so on the PlayStation side. I'm more excited about Soros than I am and playing Soros right now than. Than pretty much any Xbox game. Right.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
Although I keep saying that's not true. Forza. I can't discredit that. And of course Halo later and all that stuff. But I. When we look at, like the PlayStation first party titles, it's not like the last two years have been.
Greg Miller
We haven't been getting. Yeah. There hasn't been the greatness at the same clip we've seen in the past. Yote, obviously a great game, Soros, a great game. But we're not getting these things every quarter. Right.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Greg Miller
Sony first party exclusives are few and far between.
Tim Gettys
It feels like we're getting two PlayStation games a year. Right. That not might not be.
Greg Miller
It feels like. It feels like.
Tim Gettys
Right. And I think Sony's strategy has been the last couple years focusing more on giant third party exclusives like the Rise of the ronin, Final Fantasy 7, Rebirth. Like those type of things that in Final Fantasy 16, like they've had major wins in those spaces because of that. To fill out that exclusive side.
Greg Miller
So it could. Because of course their live service thing collapsed.
Tim Gettys
Of course.
Greg Miller
Make sure we paint the story. I mean, that's why I think output has been the way it's been. It's. There isn't a Last of Us multiplayer game going right now where they're dropping a season every six months and we're all like, oh my God, I can't wait to give them more money.
Tim Gettys
That just doesn't change the fact though that that is what the output has been. So it's like when I am just thinking about the what if of Xbox, had they just been doing it pure exclusives. And yeah, it's exclusives of a bunch of sevens to nines. Let's just be generous, right? And a redfall every here and there compared to what PlayStation's doing, it's like, damn. So even that would not be enough. And I believe that. I believe it wouldn't be enough.
Greg Miller
Yeah, I don't think it would have motivated people to switch over and buy the console and do the. You know what I mean? Like that's what we're talking about, you know, to go back to that old tired Phil quote. Right. They lost the worst generation to lose whenever we built a digital library. So this generation, slash, any Xbox generation has to have something. Holy shit. I can't believe I have to go play that. I have to be a part of that. And I don't think as much as I liked it south of Midnights, that I don't think Outer Worlds 2 is that. I don't think Starfield is that. And that's why we've seen the push and pull, we've seen of them going multi platform and maybe now receding back. We'll see to full blown exclusivity as Asha weighs all her options as they set off on this.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Greg Miller
But it will be interesting to see, you know, even as CFO Amy Hood here says this isn't gonna be a quick turnaround. It's gonna be the same for Q4. When do we see Xbox hardware positive year over year. Like, you know what I mean? Like, because again, as we build to whatever this project Helix is going to be, we worry so much about that cost, that tech, how far out that actually is.
Tim Gettys
That will be the memory leak, the Year that there's new hardware out will be the year that there's a positive increase in sales.
Greg Miller
We've just gone down so many year over year over year over year. You hat can only go up.
Tim Gettys
I just think just there's a, there will be enough inher from a tech perspective and just from some gamers and from the hardcore Xbox people, like, yeah, of course then you're going to get the biggest amount of console sold. But that, that might be the last time that ever happens. You know, like I just, it's, it's going to be very hard to change that.
Greg Miller
You talked a bit about this yesterday because it was our first time talking about Xbox together on it. And I'm right there with you. Of like, I think the industry is strongest when there's multiple hardware slash publishers out there that are killing it and doing it and yada yada. So this isn't me wishing ill on anybody. And again, as I laid in bed last night and booted up my Rog Ally and that Xbox logo popping like, that's crazy how much Xbox I play, even though it's not necessarily on a series. It's on my Razer Blade 16, it's on my ROG Ally, it's whatever. But I'm in that ecosystem daily in a crazy way that I've never been before. I'm not wishing it will. I just think this is such a herculean task to try to get out from behind the eight ball on this. And this project Helix is going to be, I think, ungodly expensive. And that's. That was even before everything went crazy with ram. So it's like to get here and put that out and say this is who Xbox is. Have they paved a path when they, by that point, when they announce it, where you go, well, you know what, there's been sins of the past, but Forza banger, Halo banger, Gears E Day banger, Fable Ba you know what I mean? Like, are we gonna look back and be like, you f. You've proved it with the six games we just had and now you're announcing all these other games, let alone of course the. It's a PC as well and it can do all this stuff. Is that going to actually lead to people buying that or is it going to be more people going, I still don't believe in this vision and I don't want to blah, blah, blah, blah.
Tim Gettys
There's two things there. One is she did in the more recent all hands thing, right, the letter. Yeah, we are Xbox. They talked about like understanding things can't be too expensive.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
And like I, I feel like it's like not even reading between the lines, it's like just hearing the words being said. They're saying the Project Helix that they understand they cannot put it out at an unreasonable price tag. Whatever price they put on it, people are going to be mad. That's just how things work. But like, I do think that having them having said that, I still think it's going to be incredibly expensive, but they're going to do anything they can to make this a entry point for people to get back in. We'll see how much that sticks. We'll see how much road they actually get. Because cool. Right now these are all words. Yeah, those words are starting to get turned into action. This game pass thing, I can't believe it happened this quickly. Right?
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
Because I thought it would just be talking, talking, talking. And then maybe in six months, like at earliest, I would think June, the showcase, we start getting some answers to things. But no, they're working a little faster than that. So all I'm gonna say is I'm going to at this point lean towards believing there's going to be an actual attempt to make Project Helix a reasonably priced product for where the market is. There's a lot of asterisks and caveats there, right?
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
Then the other thing is you talking about the will these six games, if they all bang whatever it is, change the mentality. And I do think that an unfortunate thing is they're building this Xbox brand now, like back up again, simultaneously releasing these games on PlayStation. So it's like for as good as these games are, are the people just gonna be like, I'm just gonna wait for it on PlayStation and by the time we're talking about Forza Horizon 7, that maybe they're like, that one's gonna be exclusive. Well, you already kind of lost the understanding from people where that's not going to convince them to, to jump ship, you know what I mean? And I also think it's going to be very interesting with the end of the year with Grand Theft Auto 6 if it actually happens, which at this point right now I think it's going to, and if it does, there's no chance that that's not the biggest upswing in PS5 slash PS5 pro sales that we have ever seen since launch. Right. And what does that mean then? There's going to be what, 10 million more PlayStation fives? Maybe. Maybe that's too much. Five million more PlayStation fives. In the world. Which means when places putting out more games and loading Xbox is putting more games on PlayStation, they have an even bigger install base to sell Forza to. Like, the numbers just need to add up at a certain point and it's going to be very interesting.
Greg Miller
Yeah, I think you're, you know, I think you're underselling a point you're making where we talk about losing the worst generation you could have lost. When we talk about Phil and now you talk about this watershed moment in games and you're. We're talking about you can't even go in a lot of stores and buy an Xbox because they're not on shelves anymore. Right. Like, they've just divested that way. And so to have this again, mainstream audience that is going to buy a PlayStation 5 for grand theft Auto, those are gamers who probably were never going to buy another game, but maybe if it would have been a different world, different ball of wax, and they saw Xbox and they heard about game pass, they buy that and then they try something, you know what I mean? Like, you convert some of them, at least to the Xbox ecosystem, where here, you lose them all, the PlayStation and then, yeah, we go, cool, they're off the table. They just bought a brand new expensive console. They're off the table for Project Helix in the next two, three years, whatever it is. And then you domino out from there.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Greg Miller
Let alone the fact of how many gamers are going to. They already own a PlayStation 5 and maybe they already own the Xbox series X and they're. Grand Theft Auto is coming out and they're gonna go, well, this is my chance to upgrade to a pro. I've never done the pro. Now, granted, of course, pros just went up in price as well. So we're talking about a whole different ball of wax for the economy. But you are going to see that, right? It is going to be the classic people getting the new tv, getting the system. This is the game for it.
Tim Gettys
Yeah. The other thing I was speaking out, turn about those numbers, there's no way It'll sell like 5 million, but like it will sell 2, 3 million, right?
Greg Miller
Yeah. I think another interesting call out here from this is that in Satya Nadella, when he's speaking on this, right. He also know that Xbox, quote, set new records for monthly active users in the quarter as well as game streaming hours, end quote. If we want to double back to Asha's letter, the we are Xbox One. Of course, one of the things we talked at length about on that day Was this quote from her. Our new North Star will be daily active players.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Greg Miller
So again, as they sign it together, say that. And then of course, we're going to start trying to change the narrative.
Tim Gettys
Right.
Greg Miller
This isn't about hardware. It isn't about this. It's about how many people are engaging with the platform.
Tim Gettys
Yeah. And how much of that is to the audience and how much of that is to Satya himself of Xbox being like, hey, Microsoft, just let us do our fucking thing. Hey. But you still need to appease, so let's, let's. What can we do? What can we aim towards? That's a number that'll make them happy.
Greg Miller
Yeah, of course. And I think, you know, this is also. You talk about talking to Microsoft. This is talking to the shareholders of Microsoft. Right. And giving a. Giving them a glimpse of giving them a narrative. This is going to continue to be bad for a while, but we're doing this and we are building a new foundation and we are rolling with it. Which again speaks to something that's come up a few times this week already. And then of course, throughout the months since Asha took over of like, they're messaging this well to actually be real. This isn't just we're bringing someone in to close Xbox. We're. You know what I mean?
Tim Gettys
They're.
Greg Miller
They're fighting, it seems. So we'll see how that goes. We got a bunch of super chats, of course. Let's get them in here. Okay. Bam says I don't believe they're actually trying to their fullest because why haven't they lowered the 9th gen console price yet? That's how you grow before Helix. Well, a great question, babe. I think it's several different factors and I'd love to have your take on it because of course, you're always more hardware inclined than me. I think there is the fact, like I said, that so many people have divested and they're not on shelves already. So to go and fight back for that space for something that the. I know this is a little bit too bullish probably, but the market has said we don't want. We've already chosen our horse in this race seems foolish. It would piss off retailers and leave stock on there. And are retailers going to believe it? Yada, yada, yada. And it would also. Let's say they did that. Then you have people who buy the Xbox in the same Grand Theft Auto kind of argument. They buy for that or they buy for something else. Then when you announce in or put out in a Year and a half, two years, Project Helix, they go, I just bought an Xbox. I don't need to buy a new one yet. Right now I think the idea is we take the licks, we got, we got beat, clear the shelves. And when Project Helix comes, that's when we go, okay, everybody, let's go back to Costco and Target and Sam's Club and Walmart and everything. Like, let's fight for that space. Let's have things where you can go buy the box.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, I mean we're just in a very unfortunate time right now due to a lot of reasons that fucking suck. The cost of tech is just outrageous. So it's like we're looking at PlayStation and it's the. We've said this a million times. Is the first generation that it is more expensive than it.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
Where it is now than it. Than it been getting price cuts. So I think, yeah, the Xbox is in a very bad place where they should lower the price of this thing. It should be very cheap. They should be like essentially giving them away and taking the hit just to get them in households. But I just don't think that the market's in a place right now to do that. But when you look at the letter, Xbox letter, they do talk about the 9th gen console prices. So I wouldn't be surprised if you. They got to work it out. They can't just make decisions like the. I don't believe they're trying to the fullest. They're not doing that yet because there's still decisions and strategies that need to be made and put in place to like make sure that their full vision is going to be something that they. That even exists in two, three years. If you make the wrong calls, too many wrong calls right now, then the company literally doesn't exist.
Greg Miller
K. Zupano says a service providing day one releases can't be profitable. Your profit margins are small, missing full copy sales and they don't make enough games that hit or generate enough microtransactions to work.
Tim Gettys
It's absolutely insane. I just like. Yeah. The longer we go on, the more angry it makes me. Like, it's just like y' all are devaluing this industry and it happens in movies. And then everyone complains that the CG in movies sucks. Well, guess what happened? We allowed everybody to put movies day and date on HBO Max during the pandemic and it fucking ruined things. And we'll never be able to. It put. Put the genie back in the bottle there. And now Marvel laid off like a Thousand Artists, right? And CG is now gonna probably be done by AI.
Greg Miller
So then do you foresee them be. Can they take that genie out of the bottle on Game Pass? Should they just kill Game Pass, reinvent Game Pass?
Tim Gettys
I absolutely think they should. And yeah, the Game Pass should be a PS plus type thing. The thing is, this is another thing I was thinking about in the shower today. Like it's the day and date first party titles and it's the like trying to make big deals with the big third party exclusives and all that stuff. It's like, no, y' all need the money. You need the sales of these games, like to pay the teams so that this works so that money's actually coming in. Game Pass could be a year later. Put every first party title. Like what they're doing with Call of Duty. Do that with everything. Like I look at PlayStation and like to talk about the PS plus side of things. There's that, the game collection. I hate how many different things there are. Game collection, PS plus, multiple tiers. I get that's just where we're at in life. But it's like, I do think that at a certain point, yeah, the old games, they're not selling full price. They're not, they're not moving off the shelves in these like large quantities. So it's like, yeah, I should be able to play God of War, God of War, Ragnarok, if I have PlayStation Plus.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
Yes, I should. I get that. That makes sense. But day and day, no, no. Should cost money, man. Like Fable should cost money.
Greg Miller
So my final one here before we kick you some ads and get you to a Resident Evil reaction. Aaron Lime says, I get Tim's point. But Rebirth and 16 weren't, quote unquote, major wins for PlayStation's third party strategy. If they underperformed so much that Square quit the deal.
Tim Gettys
That's missing the point of. We're talking about the quality, we're talking about the narrative of the games on the PlayStation. Rebirth was a game of the year, one of the six at the game awards. Yeah, right. It won game of the Year left and right. Like Final Fantasy 16, for the most part. Very well received. And it's like just because it didn't perform for Square, each one of those sold millions of units also always has unrealistic expectations for all they were. That were.
Greg Miller
That was a good move for PlayStation in the war with Xbox, which is what we're talking about. Squares part of it. That's a different conversation. And then you get into all these people putting their stuff on Game Pass and like, is that working for you? And is it not? Which we've had conflicting reports on throughout the years. But I digress. There's more gaming news to get to before. Tim Gettys
I do. Immersion Fragrances says at 30 million subscribers and $15 a month average, that's 450 million DOL a month. That's over 5 billion a year in revenue just from subs. I can't imagine Xbox is losing too much if anything here. That's all not talking at all about how much it cost, how much they're spending for the deals for third parties, how much they are not making from sales of the video games themselves. It's like that number, that revenue, that is not profit and that is the equation that's not adding up where that is a huge number. Yes. But compare that to all the other numbers that go into that and it's all right, cool. PlayStation also has PlayStation Plus. How much are they making from that? Right?
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
And they're making the money selling the games and they're not having to do these like insane deals. They're doing different types of deals, but they're the number. We know some of the numbers. We've heard some of these numbers. Yeah, they're freaking insane. It's like saying your entire salary is
Greg Miller
everything you make in a year and
Tim Gettys
you get to keep all that. But yeah, you got. You got bills to pay. You gotta pay rent. Same thing with this.
Greg Miller
Roger bullies you for your lunch money.
Tim Gettys
Exactly. He's so good.
Greg Miller
Only B though. Number two on the Roper report. There's no sign of Leon or Chris in the new Resident Evil movie trailer. This is Kenneth Shepard at Kotako.
Tim Gettys
Yep, Kotaku.
Greg Miller
You know, the next shot at a live action Resident Evil movie is coming this year courtesy of weapons and barbarian director Zach Kreger. And true to his word, it doesn't seem like an adaptation of the games at all. The first trailer has zombies and other creepy crawl galore, but you won't see Leon Kennedy or Chris Redfield here. I'll stop here and let you all know. Obviously we would love to react to the trailer live, but when we live react to a trailer on YouTube. YouTube thinks we're stealing the trailer and then they strike our channel and shut us down. So we don't. We can't do that way.
Tim Gettys
Thanks, YouTube.
Greg Miller
Thank you.
Tim Gettys
Just to explain that even a little more, it's movie trailers that when we react live so we can record pre record a live reaction and upload it. We just can't do it when we're live. And we're live.
Greg Miller
Resident Evil follows a guy named Brian, played by Euphoria and Weapons actor Austin Abrams, who is not. Who is having a no good, very bad night. We don't know much about the guy beyond that he is a medical courier and that he has a partner he is worried he won't see again after the world starts to go to shit around him. Despite it not being a direct adaptation of any of the Resident Evil games, we do see Brian doing very Resident Evil things like using minimalists or minimal Supplies to try and fend off a horde of zombies and looting. Keys off a dead body. Also getting a shotgun. Res Evil is coming to theaters on September 18th. Tim. Yep. You and I watched this before the show so we could talk about it here.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, man. What do you think? I mean, it's crazy. Zach Krager doing a Resident Evil.
Greg Miller
I didn't know this is happening. I don't follow the entertainment, you know, so, like, I missed this or maybe said it on a games cast and forgot all about it.
Tim Gettys
Nah, he's been on a hot streak, obviously, with the. With these horror movies. Such a. Such a style.
Greg Miller
So good.
Tim Gettys
Such a, like very, very, very like, important moment in horror movies. Like, we. We get this, like, new wave of creators every couple years. And I feel like some dimensions times, they're not hitting the same. Sometimes it's like, oh, it's. We've seen this before. Iterative. This is one of. We are in the era now, obviously. We got. We have Peel, we have Ari Aster, and Crager is kind of just dominating right now in this moment. So to get an IP like Resident Evil, very exciting. Right? But that's also coupled with where we're at right now with video game adaptations, where we are getting better ones than we ever have before. And I think that. That the likelihood of one being good is higher than it is of it being bad. I'm not saying it's 100% hit rate. I'm not even saying these are the best things ever. But facts are facts. Look at the reviews, look at the scores.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
Look into your heart, Greg.
Greg Miller
Your heart.
Tim Gettys
There. There's a higher likelihood that it will be good. So here we are, our eighth Resident Evil movie. God, that's crazy. Theatrically released even. Of course, there's all the CG ones that are a separate.
Greg Miller
Have we done Resident Evil review yet?
Tim Gettys
No, but we do have the perfect amount. Are you interested, Roger?
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
Okay, Greg, let's have a real talk right now. Eight Resident Evil movies, okay?
Greg Miller
Horror. I never get to do horror. Yeah, I know, I know. But it's horror enough. It's horror enough.
Tim Gettys
I don't know.
Greg Miller
I think I have seen one. The first three.
Tim Gettys
Whoa.
Greg Miller
Yeah, let me. Let me IMDb that.
Tim Gettys
All right, Roger, if you're listening, you heard it right here.
Greg Miller
Evil movies, huh? I need a list because there's seven
Tim Gettys
of them that are.
Greg Miller
Oh, I definitely saw xt. There's six of them. I definitely saw xt. So that's the first three. Resident Evil, obviously, that was like.
Tim Gettys
Oh, yeah.
Greg Miller
Oh, my God. And then they own the DVD and the lasers apocalypse. I mean, I would. I would have seen. I wouldn't have missed it because I'd been less excited. But Resident Evil Extinction, I distinctly remember
Tim Gettys
going, yeah, so there's six Alice movies, and then there was welcome to Raccoon City. That was.
Greg Miller
Never saw that.
Tim Gettys
A bit more. Trying to directly adapt the games, but then also made some choices that didn't do that at all. And it's like, what are we doing? Yeah, why'd we go 90 of the way here? But anyways, all this to say, this is very exciting. Exciting. And so watching this trailer, it lives up to pretty much everything I thought it would be. This looks like an awesome Zach Krager movie.
Greg Miller
Sure.
Tim Gettys
It does not look like a good Resident Evil movie.
Greg Miller
Do you care about that?
Tim Gettys
Not really. Like, I. I feel like especially after welcome to Raccoon City, which I enjoyed a lot.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
But it. It's all right. Cool. These games aren't great in terms of story and characters. They're iconic because they're video games and we like them. But like translating the gameplay into a movie and stuff, it's like, y'. All. All the movies. The games are fun because they're. They're B movies as games.
Greg Miller
Yeah. Right.
Tim Gettys
So translating that back to a movie, it's like, nah, man, let Zach Kroger do his goddamn thing. And I'm here for it. There's a couple things in this that I really loved, and there's a couple things in it that I'm like. I don't personally like it. Like, there was a lot of shots. Like there's one of all the hands coming out of the.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
And the big guy in the sewers and stuff, which. That I can stretch a little bit more to be like, okay. Resident Evil does have a lot of weird. Like that.
Greg Miller
That.
Tim Gettys
But this seems a little bit more like the start of the outbreak or like around the time. Like, him. This. He's just dealing with this for the first time. They're saying this is in the universe of the games. So them saying that to me is like, ah. I'm just going to pretend that didn't exist. Cuz I. That'll ruin it for me. Cuz, like, there's just too much stuff. I'm like, the hands in the doors. I'm like, that doesn't. That's not my Resident Evil. Right.
Greg Miller
That's not my Resident Evil.
Tim Gettys
The shot at the end of the trailer, though, a bunch of zombie bodies, like, falling out of buildings. Blood. I'm like, that's sick. Shots of him walking with the guns, like, having the, the shotgun hanging off. Yeah, that's the type of adaptation that I like where it's like, oh, it's, it's not a literal, like, they're not memeing it. Making the joke of like, how is he holding four guns and you don't see it on him and they make a joke about it. Right?
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
It's literally like, dude, it would be hard to walk around with a shotgun, you know, while you also are having to pick up keys and stuff. Like. Very interested in this. I think this looks really, really, really rad.
Greg Miller
Yeah. I obviously, as someone who loves horror movies, loves barbarian, loves weapons, like, I'm in no matter what. For me, literally not knowing this existed till today when somebody's like, oh, the Resident Evil trailer's out. I was like, oh, okay. Like, I, I, I'm interested in why making a Resident Evil movie, not like a why. Like, that sounds so pretentious. Like, and I'm an asshole. Like, I'm trying to protect it. But it's just interesting of just like, okay, like, I don't know. I guess it's on the one hand, interesting. Have you watched the documentary? And I use it loosely because it's kind of just a fan film about the story behind George A. Romero and him trying to make the Resident Evil movie. And he made the, like, Remember the live action commercial he did and he was gonna make it. Have you watched this documentary?
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Greg Miller
Okay. Like, going through that and being like, man, what would Romero's Resident Evil movie look like if he wasn't getting noted to death and do all these different. Like, it's exciting to think of somebody I love so much, you know, taking a property that I also appreciate in doing something. Cool it. So that's where we're at with this, where it's like, cool to create, but it's just an interesting one of like, huh. I, I watch it and I'm like, I'm there no matter what because it's saying all the right things. But I wonder for the hardcore Resident Evil fans, what are they going to think? Are they going to be up in arms about it?
Tim Gettys
It starts off with them in a house. What's a house, Greg?
Greg Miller
A building, a residence.
Tim Gettys
All right.
Greg Miller
Okay.
Tim Gettys
A lot of evil in this trailer.
Greg Miller
There is.
Tim Gettys
They're nailing it.
Greg Miller
Jameson super chats and says the Resident Evil trailer looks like 28 days later.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, I mean, the energy, I can see that.
Greg Miller
Yeah. Demon hacker says, I'm, I Am an RE Sicko. Looks like a good game, but a bad adaptation, imo. Anyone going in expecting the same lore respect as Fallout will be disappointed.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, absolutely.
Greg Miller
Does Resident Evil respect its own lore, though, the game?
Tim Gettys
They try to. Okay, they try to, but their lore is like. It's silly. You know what I mean? Like, that's. I don't know that you want to watch those movies.
Greg Miller
Fair.
Tim Gettys
Oh, here's the thing.
Greg Miller
No, the games, the games, the games. Does Resident Evil games?
Tim Gettys
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. But if you were to adapt those directly, it's like. Like, who's that for? And that's why I think, again, non fully, but for the most part, that's why what welcome to Raccoon City tried to do. The problem with. There's a lot of problems with that movie, but a problem with welcome to Raccoon City is they were essentially adapting Re 1, 2 and 3 in an hour and a half. It's just like y' all are doing way too much at one time. But it's like, yeah, their outfits look like their outfits. And like they. They. They made references to specific puzzles and stuff like that. And I'm sitting there in the. The theater like, yeah, yeah.
Greg Miller
But like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Tim Gettys
All right.
Greg Miller
You know, doing that for. Yeah, of course. Sky in the super chat says Resident Evil super fan here. This movie look great. All the subtle nods to the game are hitting let this man cook hashtag In Craig we trust.
Tim Gettys
I trust him implicitly.
Greg Miller
And then. Right on target and right on topic. Kebab says happy 10th anniversary to the Ratchet and Clink movie.
Tim Gettys
Hell yeah.
Greg Miller
Jeff the Maverick says Zach Kreger broke down the entire trailer on IGN's YouTube channel. It's 12 minutes. I recommend watching. We will. I'd watch it right now, but then I claims and I get in trouble. You know what I mean? Then I got Max Scoville with a season desist, and I don't have time for that right now. Okay, September's not that far, believe it or not.
Tim Gettys
That's crazy.
Greg Miller
Number three on the ROPA report. PlayStation users report new online license checks, but Sony quells concerns. This is Gabe Gerwin over at GameSpot. Gabe Gerwin at GameSpot. A lot of GS there.
Tim Gettys
I appreciate that, GGG.
Greg Miller
A new quirk has begun affecting PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners with digital game purchases. And I know we've reported on this before. We're going to the more fleshed out information. It appears the system's last latest update updates have introduced a 30 day online license check for digital games, leaving those who have extended Internet outages without access to certain games. However, Sony has clarified exactly how it works and it seems like most players have nothing to worry about. Several users, including the game Accessibility Twitter account DoesItPlay, have reported that all new PlayStation Store purchases those made before March 2026 appear to be unaffected. Feature a third Let me try that all new PlayStation Store purchases those Made Before March 2026 appear not to be unaffected feature a 30 day timer that shows when you will need to connect to the Internet again before losing access. This timer doesn't appear to be visible on the PlayStation 5, but according to Does It Play? It is still being tracked in the background. While unlikely to be a tangible issue for most players, there are definitely use cases that could see a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 disconnected from the Internet for extended periods of time time According to a statement Does It Play? Gave Kotaku, the license checks may have been introduced to combat refund scams, but were designed to convert into unlimited licenses afterwards. That appears to be the case with an SIE spokesperson telling GameSpot the following quote Players can continue to access and play their purchased games as usual. A one time online check is required to confirm the game's license, after which no further check ins are acquired and
Tim Gettys
quote quote I hate this stuff.
Greg Miller
So all's well that ends well.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, yeah. I mean yeah, all the digital stuff, all the. The checks, licensing, freaking. Do you own it?
Greg Miller
Make sure you activate your PlayStation 5 as your main PlayStation 5.
Tim Gettys
God. Freaking primary. Shit.
Greg Miller
Yeah, the primary. Yeah, it's better than it used to be. It is in the old days, remember you have to go on the fucking website and deactivate. Yeah, you had too many, then you go deactivate them all. But if you did that twice in a year, it's like you can't do whatever again, man.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, so much of that stuff sucks. Sucks on Nintendo, sucks on PlayStation. I don't really know about it on Xbox too much from being real. Yeah, no imagine sucks though.
Greg Miller
It probably play anywhere though, you know, I mean it's everywhere. Saves getting kicked around left and right.
Tim Gettys
I don't know if you remember this Greg, but I my PS3 broke one time and this is like back in my early days at ign. So I went up to you didn't know you well yeah. And I was like hey can you. You fix this? You're the PlayStation guy. And you're like yeah, I'll send it in. And they sent it in and then they sent me a new PS3 back. None of my saves or anything were backed up and I was like, well that's not what I wanted. Yeah, yeah. 13 had to restart it.
Greg Miller
Yeah, it's one of those. You should have backed up your saves, you know.
Tim Gettys
I know. Yeah. Yeah. Different time, different place.
Greg Miller
They see I think a lot of times when we talk about thinking of, I mean I know PlayStation because it's my, you know, my, these stories and what I did. But I'll, I'll say in general video game customer service, you expect they would treat it with the care respect you have. That's never the case. Never the case. I don't think anybody. They just go right into the PS3 shredder. Be done with it. It's like when Colin broke my PlayStation with a Sopranos disc in it. That Sopranos disc never came back.
Tim Gettys
No.
Greg Miller
You know what I mean? That was the end of that Sopranos disc. Number four on the Roper Report Subnautica two early access starts in May in wake of its publisher and Publisher and fired leads legal dispute this is Chris Scullion at vgc. Following a legal saga which challenged the firing of its leadership team, Unknown Worlds has finally announced the early access date for Subnautica 2. A new cinematic trailer for the game has been published revealing the early Access starts on May 14th at 8am Pacific. We are thrilled to announce that Subnautica 2 will be $29.99 USD at Early Access launch. Unknown Worlds stated in the game's official website site, you will need to buy Subnautica 2 once during early access. You'll get all editions, updates and hot fixes up to our 1.0 launch and beyond beyond. The announcement comes roughly a month after publisher Crafton was accused of ignoring court orders by announcing to staff that the game was releasing in May. Despite such a decision seemingly being the responsibility of the newly reinstated CEO Ted Gill, it would appear that the matter has been resolved to at least some extent with Unknown World's announcement today of a May 14th early access launch. All's well that ends well.
Tim Gettys
Here we are, it's actually happening and
Greg Miller
this is I mean again congratulations to the founders getting reinstated. You know there was all if you go look at the lawsuit the whole thing appear apparently allegedly was crafting trying to get out of paying them their bonus if they got it out by a certain date. So they didn't let them get out and then they fucking got rid of them. And then like they can't do that. They owe us money. And then they the judge were like you Got to let them back in. So they let them back in and now they're putting the game. Is anyone going to play Subnautica 2? That's what I want to know. Chat. Are you going to play Subnautica 2 now? And this isn't that. I think it looks like trash or anything like that. I couldn't Even pick Subnautica 2 out of a lineup. I just think it's interesting. We've covered the news for so long that I have no idea the hype for Subnautica 2. Yes. A lot of people are saying yes over here. Twitch. Chat. A lot of yeses. Few no's in the YouTube.
Tim Gettys
Nos in the YouTube. Very interesting. Huh?
Greg Miller
Huh?
Tim Gettys
I wonder why.
Greg Miller
Very interesting.
Tim Gettys
Very. Yo, this is really weird. Okay. We're getting a couple yeses. Yeah.
Greg Miller
Now YouTube's for a while.
Tim Gettys
It was
Greg Miller
absolutely God of War. Okay. This is disgruntled monkey. I absolutely beat God of War for me for game of the year. All right, good.
Tim Gettys
Cool.
Greg Miller
Again, this wasn't me shitting on it. I just don't know anything about the game anymore outside of it. Perfect. Good for you. Good for them. We will look for that May 14th. Now for another release date. Greg Way number five, Star Wars Galactic Racer lands on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S on October 6th. This is Chris Holt at Engadget while we look at the brand new trailer. Star Wars Galactic Racer, an upcoming game from the former Burnout and Need for Speed developers that was announced at the game awards in December, will arrive on October 6th. It's coming to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. News of the release date leaked last week. Week and now developer Fuse Games and publisher Secret Mode have made it official. Timothy, tell me how excited you are.
Tim Gettys
I am so excited. A little later, actually. A lot later than I expected this to be. I thought this was going to be a summer game, but I can't freaking wait. I just want to get my hands on it. This is one of the ones I need to feel. I need to know what I'm in for. But the thing I'm most excited for, there's a story mode and I think that's going to be a lot of fun. I. I really have high hopes for it. This is one of the games that I'm like, like, you know, we all get it. We look at this and it's like it could just be one of those dime a dozen, like another games coming out or this could be a labor of love that people understand. Yo, there's expectations here that are different than just a Star wars genre. Right. This is like trying to live up to especially come on the Boonta Eve classic. I get to do it again in 4K.
Greg Miller
Sure.
Tim Gettys
Can't wait.
Greg Miller
I'm excited for you. I hope you have fun with it, everyone. There needs to be a small watto in it, you know, some kind of dangle charm that I can attach smallest water. Just a small water. John Drake. We're not asking for too much.
Tim Gettys
We're really not. We're.
Greg Miller
I mean for real Microtransaction. John, do you not like money? You know what I mean. I don't want to have to go above your head to your boss and say that you don't like money. But I'll do it.
Tim Gettys
You will? He'll call him live on air.
Greg Miller
I will. Number six on the Roper Report. Extremely okay Games maker of Celeste announces platform adventure game of none on PS or for PC. I'm sorry, this is Sal Romano and Komatsu who remember is much more young and handsome than you think. Yeah, I always thought Sal Romano was going to be an old person and then he watches the show he's probably watching right now. But then he popped up once and I was like damn, what the fuck? You're younger than me. Weird.
Tim Gettys
Good for you, Sal.
Greg Miller
And he also is in shape. Extremely okay Games has announced City of None, a side scrolling platform adventure game from Celeste co creator Noel Barry and Liam Barry. It will launch for PC via Steam in 2027. Here is an overview of the game via its Steam page. Adventure through a metropolis filled with strange spirits, wicked beasts, ferocious robots and more than one friend as you rest life and the city's future back from the grip of Ravenous Barons, a platforming adventure game made from the co creator of Celeste. Bullet points. Three of them Discover unique items and power ups that grant you new platforming abilities. Venture by train to the city's five sectors and explore their many paths. Pathways. Meet many friendly and not so friendly city inhabitants through your adventure.
Tim Gettys
This looks super, super, super cool. Yeah, it looks really cool and I love the, the colors and the kind of visual style of this. I learned something recently, Greg, that I'm like, I wish I knew this before and maybe inherently in my heart and soul I did know it. But now that I officially know it's gonna be one of those annoying things I bring up any chance I get. There's an interior design formula like a rule of color balancing 60, 30, 10 where you want to balance things out color wise with that ratio. Right. And that's how you get like really nice aesthetic looks. I don't know that this is doing that, but just like it's given me the 60, 30. The 60, 30, 10 feel. Somebody broke it down with a bunch of cartoons of when a cartoon looks good and when a cartoon looks bad.
Greg Miller
Got it.
Tim Gettys
Got it. Using Batman beyond as a example of it. It's like without. Yeah, of course. Course. And without fail, every single screen, the color balance. 60, 30, 10. And I'm like, huh? And then you think about homes, you think about interior design and you think about like the color balance. I'm like, whoa. Whoa. Anyway, pretty game everyone.
Greg Miller
I'm sure Andy is sweating maybe because if you discover this, I'm sure we discover Andy's not as smart as we think he is.
Tim Gettys
Oh yeah.
Greg Miller
I mean we're always like, how did Andy make this look so good? He's just.
Tim Gettys
And he's taught me a lot about the. The Grebels and Keebles. Right? Or whatever the fuck.
Greg Miller
I love a good green bulkeeble. Number seven on the Roper Report Strange Scaffold announces anime driving game Truck Kun is supporting Me from Another World. This is Sam Smith at Games Beat. Strange Scaffold is known for developing the games I am your Beast, Click holding and El Paso Elsewhere. The studio's new title will be a vehicular action game where the player acts as a truck that transports or Isekai's people into a fantasy anime universe. In a statement, Strange Scaffold described Truck Kun is supported supporting Me from Another World as quote an anime inspired game about smashing through objects at high speed to power up the corporate ladder climber you accidentally isekai'd into a dangerous medieval fantasy world. End quote. The title is inspired by the anime and manga subgenre of Isekai and I'm sorry if I'm saying this wrong in which animal or characters find themselves in parallel universes. The upcoming game quote will revel in its own absurdism while simultaneously grounding itself with sharp satire that reflects real life life. Per Strange Scaffolds press release.
Tim Gettys
Strange Scaffold man, Go get him.
Greg Miller
Go get killing it.
Tim Gettys
I don't understand. Yeah, it's magic. It doesn't. It actually doesn't make sense. How are they releasing this many games that are of a good quality with unique as hell premises? Back to back to back to back to back. Yeah, it's special man.
Greg Miller
We did an interview with Zaire me and bless a while back for I believe it was a gamescast but maybe it was a stream. I Forget which one it was where we talk. We. Oh, yeah. Because they had a pres. Oliver did a presentation that we sat in on, talking about how they make games and what they're doing and how they're trying to be. How they're turning games so quickly. And it was a fascinating conversation. I urge you to go. Do I forget if it was maybe on that show or maybe it was before we did the interview or after where he talked about this game? I was like, that sounds fucking crazy. And to see it, I immediately like, I want to play that. That's the kind of.
Tim Gettys
It looks cool.
Greg Miller
Everybody get on that one. Because of course, Strange Scaffold keeps making amazing stuff. And one day I'm sure they're going to make a game of the year. But when they do, that'll be big news.
Tim Gettys
It'd be so big.
Greg Miller
Instead of talking about that, I'd rather talk about small news. Where could I go to get the smallest news items I need to know about?
Tim Gettys
Tim, you would go to our last news story, the WE News Channel, where we talk about all the small, little, tiny things you need to know about.
Greg Miller
Number 8, the Wii news from Noble Super Mario Galaxy 2 on Nintendo Switch 2 received an update that adds a new to the story book. You can read this new story by clearing any galaxy and earning a power star.
Tim Gettys
I have so many questions. We talk about WNDs. This is one of them. Why? I'm not complaining. It's cool. That's a new one for Greg, for sure. But this is so bizarre.
Greg Miller
I mean, a lot of people are got to be coming back to those games, right? For the movies.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, but like, just adding more storybook stuff feels. It doesn't feel like it's for the. The randos out there. This is like, for the hardcore.
Greg Miller
Sure.
Tim Gettys
The freaks, man. It's going to canonize them being sisters. I don't think, like that's. That's the more bizarre part is that, like, the storybook is kind of not that story. It's like a different thing going on. I just read it to Sammy. I know, but not with. Not.
Greg Miller
Not with the new page.
Tim Gettys
Not the new page. Not the new page. Not even the other new pages.
Greg Miller
Okay.
Tim Gettys
They added new pages.
Greg Miller
I know. And that's why that game really was not a remaster as much as it was. You know what I mean? It should have been available for Roger to get in. Fantasy Critic, if you ask me from vgc, the studio behind Plague Tale series says the third game is now in the last stages of development. Quote, the release is almost here. That's exciting for Plague Tale fans.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Greg Miller
Xbox presents a special look at Stranger Than heaven, will be 30 minutes long and is set for May 6. After they bait and switched us on the last developer, third party direct from Noble again.
Tim Gettys
Tina Meaney was tweeting saying who's in charge over there of the production stuff, saying it's the biggest, like coolest, stylish, most stylish production she's been a part of over there.
Greg Miller
We should live, react to it. We should do it.
Tim Gettys
We should do it.
Greg Miller
I'll look into it. From Noble again. Pearl Abyss has sold CCP games to current CEO Hilma Patterson for approximately 177.132 billion Korean won. Okay, I didn't realize CCP Games was owned by Pearl Abyss. So Eve Online and all that jazz was underneath Pearl Abyss?
Tim Gettys
I didn't know that.
Greg Miller
Unless I'm thinking of something differently. Am I seeing something different at chat? Let me know while you catch up. I'll tell you. Vampire crawlers has surpassed 1 million players in its first week. Go get a punkle.
Tim Gettys
Hell yeah.
Greg Miller
Nacon Connect is back on May 7, 2026. This is News because remember it was going to happen. Then they declared the bankruptcy and Earth filed for insolvency, so they canceled or postponed it. Now they've done it again, saying now we're doing it on May 7th. And then Aaron Lime has a super chat that says important we news. Per Rock, Paper, Shotgun. Former Spiders developers are asking people to boycott nacon, citing purposeful mismanagement of the shooting Shut down. Who would have thought this would be messy as you try to go bankrupt right before your showcase and then bring your showcase back. I digress. What did we find out about over here? Yeah, it is evil. The CCP Zone by. I didn't know that. Okay, then back to Noble again. Oh, oh, I see. Spiders confirmed. So this is Noble. Spiders confirmed the report that Nacon shut it down after they couldn't find a buyer. So then that's where the Wii news comes in. Of like now it's purposeful mismanagement. They're asking for a boycott. Possessors received a new patch and a permanent price cut to $10. And then Dune Awakening update 1.4 and the Water Wars DLC arrives May 19th. So look out.
Tim Gettys
A lot of water in Dune.
Greg Miller
No, there isn't. That's why there's a war over. Look out. Nick, Mike, Andy and Chris Anko. Well, Gary, probably Gary will actually lose his life to it. But you know what's going on. Anyways, I digress. Let's get some super chats here. The Portland cabin says Obnautica is one of my favorite exploration slash survival games ever. Easy base building, cool underwater biomes and terrifying sea monsters. Go play it. Kristoff says Star wars trailer had me run through a brick wall.
Tim Gettys
Hell yeah.
Greg Miller
Science Dog official says bacon and Craigs. Hashtag basic bacon and Craigs. I'm scrolling back to find some other things where we talk about the other things. You see that over there? Nightlife says live golf is dead. Does this signal the United Arab Emirates and other investors to back out of companies that. And let them die instead of selling it off? Maybe they just let studios collapse. Happy birthday, Lisa.
Tim Gettys
We've got some fucking unhinged super chats.
Greg Miller
I love it.
Tim Gettys
I do love it. Yeah, you have a lot of characters.
Greg Miller
Grab a dog. But I also wanted to ask about a video game like. Okay, okay, cool.
Tim Gettys
Happy birthday, Lisa.
Greg Miller
We will be watching to see what happens with the people's Investment fund of Saudi Arabia as all the many investments they have put into what will go on from there. Does it signal that they could back out of companies? Of course. That's why them owning so many things in the industry is a fucking terrible.
Tim Gettys
There was an interesting tidbit about that yesterday where like a dev mentioned that they had backed out of a lot of meetings like two weeks before gdc. And so it's an interesting of like
Greg Miller
there had been a report going on
Tim Gettys
with their financials with the.
Greg Miller
The attack on Iran. Yeah. And that was the thing right around the. The New Year. Right. There had also been a thing where they. They were having. There was rumors of conversations that they were freezing new investments because what the going on. We're not making money the way we want to.
Tim Gettys
So I don't know what live golf is because I was like, I don't know that it's not Liv Morgan Golf Studio. And then I. That was my second thought.
Greg Miller
But no, it's.
Tim Gettys
It's just. It's just a. It's a golf league.
Greg Miller
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
Yeah. Like real golf.
Greg Miller
Yeah. Yeah. In the sports world it was one of those first big, big washing things where they were like getting so many of the golfers to go over there. It was like, what the fuck are you doing? Pay me obscene amounts of money.
Tim Gettys
I was like kick.
Greg Miller
Kind of. Yeah. To make you understand. Yeah, it's kind of like kick. It's kind of like kick Silver. J. Hawkins Greg. Random question. As I just downloaded for PlayStation 5 is one of the few consoles I haven't played it on. When was the last time you played Ghostbusters? The video game remastered. Heart you man. When it released. Released. I jumped in the re. Release the whatever. And then some other time. Oh, Ben. Ben has been playing it here and there. He'll kick the tires on it, but it's a little too complicated for him to get super into it. We're back from Danish. Tim, did you check out the Ray Hans Zimmer song? Oh, my God. Just a reminder. No pressure.
Tim Gettys
Yesterday, right? They super chatted in saying this, and I had no idea who the hell Rey is, period. I was like, I'm gonna check out this song. I boot up. And I'm like, holy. It's like Tim Getty's dreams, right? Han Zimmer crushing it. Ray, talented as all hell style. Weird as I'm like, this is so, so, so me. So cinematic. So unlike other things I've heard. I will now compare it to a bunch of other things I've heard. It's kind of like Lily Allen meets Lana Del Rey meets Amy Winehouse.
Greg Miller
You're selling me.
Tim Gettys
And I'm like, okay, I'm into this. So I immediately download the album, start listening from the very beginning. Beginning. Imagine my shock when the freaking where the hell is my husband's song? Starts playing.
Greg Miller
Oh, is that her?
Tim Gettys
It's her.
Greg Miller
Oh.
Tim Gettys
And I'm like, that's crazy. And what was crazy about this is I'm loving this album. And I. I finished it. I loved it. Thank you so much for this recommendation. I am all the way in. But there's something about that song that just rubs me the wrong way. It. It is. It, it. It's like. And like I.
Greg Miller
Every element of over here going, not all men.
Tim Gettys
I should love. I should love like the live instruments and like the. The crazy flows and stuff. But there's something about it. It just feels like. Like mom pop. Like, it's very Megan Trainer. It's very like. And I. That sometimes I like that stuff because I'm a corny bastard. But, like, something about that song I do not like. So I was shocked to hear that after loving this whole album. But thank you for the recommendation. Well, if you. If you want to get further, you know, maybe check them out. They are playing in San Francisco on 10th. Ray. Yeah, me. I might bring the baby.
Greg Miller
JBC says the resident Evil trailer looks peak. Kreger has my trust. Some RE fans are acting like tourists right now. And then final super chat go. Or I guess I saw one pop in late C. Barry says Greg Dot Dot dot My adventures with Superman season three news. I saw it. Reign of the Superman. I'll be there. Don't worry. Mr. Hawk. Super chats with our final one. It says Blaster Goblin and I made it say the top six of the leaderboards for the Mind's Eye DLC last year night. The only people above us were test accounts. You're psychopaths. Congratulations. We asked people watching to keep us honest by going to kind of funny.com/ you're wrong and telling us what we screwed up. Okay, Buddy is drunk and says we missed Forza Horizon yesterday on the Gamescast. No, we definitely talked about Forza Horizon on all the games coming out in May.
Tim Gettys
Okay.
Greg Miller
Silver J. Hawkins. Hawkins says Tim said the new Resident Evil movie will be connected to the game universe in the IGN director's commentary. The movie is not canon but wanted to be along with Resident Evil 2. Love you all.
Tim Gettys
Okay, listen to what you just said.
Greg Miller
Hey man. Hey man. Hey man.
Tim Gettys
I fucking hate it.
Greg Miller
Kebab says. It's worth noting that the new Storybook chapter has been added to Mario Galaxy 2. Specific. Which is literally what we said when we said it's been added to Mario Galaxy 2. That's notable because the sequel famously de emphasized Rosalina after Miyamoto critiqued the Storybook's inclusion in the first game. Feeling that Mario shouldn't be about story. That probably explains the movie. Okay, and everybody, that's it for Super Chats. And that's it for another episode of Kinda Funny Games Daily. But guess what? There's still plenty of content coming your way today cause we're all about live talk shows. You're about to get Kinda Funny Gamescast where guess what I just said. Guess what? Sorry, guess What? Blessing played 007 First Light and is gonna talk all about it. And after that Joey and I are going to hell in Diablo IV to play the new Lord of Hatred dlc.
Tim Gettys
And in between that in review.
Greg Miller
No shit. Really?
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Greg Miller
I did not realize that.
Tim Gettys
Return of the King baby.
Greg Miller

Tim Gettys
What do you think you really like this Ray person.
Greg Miller
Tickets are expensive.
Tim Gettys
400 is the cheapest one granted. It's two weeks out and you know this is all that's left. I'll see what I can do on the black market.
Greg Miller
Borrow firefighters universe. Yeah, I'm sorry a fighter fire uniform and come in, check the fire alarm. Yeah, that's what I do.
