And it's free foreign. What's up everybody? And welcome back to the Kind of Funny Games cast for Wednesday, November 5, 2025. Of course, I am your host, Tim Gettys. I'm joined today by Blessing. Adio. Yay, junior. Good day, Tim and Andy Cortez.
Andy Cortez
Hey, Tim.
Tim Gettys
Now, we did have another man on the. On the cast. We had another man that was sitting here moments ago. It's why we're just slightly later than we should have been. That man, of course, was Snow Bike Mike. Andy. What happened?
Andy Cortez
He sat down and said, so my flight is at 1245 or boards at 1245, and it's 1115 at the time. And we're like, oh, you shouldn't. You should go. Then he's like, all right, well, I said it in the meeting. Are you sure? And I don't remember him saying it in the mean.
Tim Gettys
I, I distinctly remember him bringing this up, and I was trying to solve it. But look, on one hand, I don't want to give him because it's like he did try to solve the problem, but on the other hand, clearly, he didn't solve the problem. You know what I mean?
Andy Cortez
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Tim Gettys
So I, I, I'm somewhere in the middle there. Mike, I love you. I don't want to talk. I know. We talk a lot of. And then you're gonna be fine. You're gonna go to the airport now. It's gonna be great. He better not still be in this.
Blessing Adeoye
I do understand.
Andy Cortez
I look, I understand. I understand the mentality. I've done the thing where I leave my car at the studio if I'm bored in at 1pm because my flight's at 1:35 or 1:40 or whatever. I'll leave the studio by, you know, 12:15.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, we're, we're very close to the airport. You have clear. You got TSA PreCheck. You're, you're sitting pretty. However, there is a government shutdown going on right now that is causing all types of problems.
Andy Cortez
I don't want you to see what's in the Epstein files.
Tim Gettys
So, yeah, definitely thr the needle on this one. We'll see. But it was definitely a, a cascading series of problems. The, the avalanche, the waterfalls, whatever you want to call it. Because this episode was titled Even More Pokemon Legend Za Reviews so Far. When we tentatively put that there last week, we were like, all right, we know that not that many people here, like, played that much of it, but hopefully they will have played more. And then it kind of seems like that didn't happen too much. And I was hoping that Andy had got further, because I was like, oh, going to change the headline to Andy's Pokemon Legends Z review so far. And then today, he's like, dude, I was playing all this other stuff for, like, that I'm officially going to review. And I was like, all right, let's kind of start taking this all back. And then I was like, it's fine. When I saw the thumbnail that Roger made, I'm like, we got Andy. We got Mike. It's going to be just friends talking about game. Me and bless going to Have a good time. And then we just lost Mike. So this episode, it's just going to be a lot of fun.
Blessing Adeoye
I mean is it too late to super pivot and do that PS2 shit list?
Tim Gettys
Let's save that for tomorrow, right? That's on Friday. That's on Friday. But here's the thing I do I want to talk about Pokemon Legend Za because I don't think that we're going to have an opportunity to hear your guys thoughts as they they stand. So far we have Barrett who has been playing a little bit as well. So we will talk about Pokemon Legends and then we'll also get to other just games that we've been playing. So this is a semi what you've been playing episode with a slight emphasis on Pokemon Legends. Let's call it that because remember everyone, this is the kind of Funny Games cast. Each and every weekday we get together to top up the biggest reviews, previews and topics in video games live on YouTube, Twitch and podcast services around the globe. If you love what we do, please support us with the Kind of Funny membership on Patreon, YouTube, Apple Podcast or Spotify to get all of our shows ad free and a daily exclusive show. For a chance to be part of this show though, please submit your thoughts and opinions as YouTube Super Chat. Yeah, YouTube Super Chat. What have you been playing? What are your thoughts on Pokemon Legends? Za? Have you beat it? Are you trying to 100% it? Have you caught them all? I want to know a little housekeeping for you. We're an 11 person business all about live talk shows. Games Daily was all about Marvel teasing their future with PlayStation. Then after this it's going to be the kind of Funny podcast. A fun special one with a very different crew. It's me, Roger and Joey. So very excited about that. If you're a Kind of Funny member. Today's Greg Way is also a special different one. He's doing a live stream on Patreon. They have a new function that he's tested out. It'll then go into all the other membership places if you're not on Patreon or if you're not able to watch live. So that's cool. Thank you to our Patreon producers, Carl Jacobs, Omega, Buster and Delaney. The Psalm Twining. Let's get to it. The topic of the show, Todd. Todts. Todts. Todts. Todts. That's a lie. I don't want to get there yet. The topic of the show is Pokemon. But I want to talk about something else entirely. I've been wanting some of this for a while and I just want to just put it out there.
Blessing Adeoye
Okay.
Tim Gettys
I can't stop thinking about Final Fantasy 7, you guys.
Blessing Adeoye
You know, same here. And I don't know why. What brought Final Fantasy 7 to the mind for me? Who could tell? You know, who knows?
Tim Gettys
There's been thing recently and you know what I think it is, is that the director of Rebirth and co director of remake has been going on this press tour recently. He's been showing up to every single press or every single convention that there. There's been going on around the world, little checking in there with a bunch of developers and this man can't close his mouth. This man wants to talk about Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 so bad. And he's doing it like he's just saying everything. Andy. Like, I don't know that we've ever. We probably have, but it's very, very, very rare that we have heard this much about a game that's not even formally announced. You know, like, we know it's coming, but like it's. It's exciting.
Blessing Adeoye
I feel like this has been happening for a while. Like it's definitely amped up in recent weak weeks. But I feel like throughout the last however many years, I. Every other week, I swear there's like a new interview coming out from somebody who's making. Who is at Square Enix working on the Final Fantasy 7 remix who like says some unique thing about oh, it'll run on switch to. Or oh, it's something to this thing. Or oh, it's. Yeah, like, oh, we're not doing exclusives or whatever it is. Right. Like we always get new info about this series for some reason.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, it's just. It's very cool. And I also think that a big part of it is we are kind of in that hype cycle for Resident Evil. Resident Evil. What am I talking about?
Blessing Adeoye
Yeah, yeah.
Tim Gettys
Final Fantasy 7 rattled right now. I'm so rattled. I needed Mike here, man.
Blessing Adeoye
I was rattle on games daily too. I think Something in the air.
Tim Gettys
Definitely something in. But Barrett, did you. How did you get Final Fantasy 7 on the wall that fast? Was that luck?
Andy Cortez
I think that's the first thing that pops up.
Barrett
Yeah, that's just. So whenever we change scenes for the games cast sets, it just starts at the beginning of the file and it starts with Final Fantasy.
Tim Gettys
That's odd because I was like, dang, dude, that is impressive.
Andy Cortez
But I think when I made the Wall two years ago, I knew that you were gonna do this at this Point I won't.
Blessing Adeoye
That's funny.
Tim Gettys
You saw. I had. I love it, but I think a lot of it's just they're doing the tour to talk about Final Fantasy Intergrade coming to Switch, right? Because that's in January, so. And it's playable at a lot of these conventions. So I think that has a lot to do with kind of like why he's even in a place to talk this much about it. But I just keep going back to listen to the music again, to you. And I went to that concert and it was life changing. And I. I listened to that concert so much and I'm just like, damn, these games. We're. I'm. I'm saying it right now. We're a month and a week away from this game being officially revealed at the game wards, and I can't wait.
Andy Cortez
Wow, there better be some good shadows and lighting in those rooms, man.
Blessing Adeoye
I'll tell you what, Let me tell you. I saw a clip on TikTok this morning of. It was a meme, I guess I don't want to spoil Final Phase of Seven because it's new to some people now, but it's a meme of Cloud doing a snowboarding minigame, which I assume exists in the original game.
Tim Gettys
Oh, yeah.
Blessing Adeoye
I never got that far to snowboarding, but, like, the meme was like the event after. Like, this is the event after some mini major pretty much right after.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, yeah.
Blessing Adeoye
And they're like, oh, just cloud snowboarding down a mountain or whatever. And I'm like, I want to see that in the new game.
Tim Gettys
And you know what? After Rebirth, I guarantee they're doing it. There's no chance they don't do the snowboarding, which is hilarious. And I'm going to derail just a little longer here because something really good has happened to me the last couple weeks. My good friend James Burke, I talk about him a lot. He is not somebody that, like, would inherently call himself a gamer, but turns out over the years, he's one of the biggest gamers there. Fucking is this man addicted to Platinums in a way that's the opposite of Greg Miller. He's in it of, like, if he's playing a game, he's going to 100% it, no matter what it is. He's not doing the. My name is Mayo. Click me, click me, whatever the hell those things are called, right? Ball, pit, ball, not ball pits. Good. Yeah. Ball, bounce, ball, whatever the hell.
Blessing Adeoye
ZJ the ball.
Tim Gettys
ZJ the ball. He ain't doing that shit. But, like, over the years, you've heard he's platinum bloodborne. He's Platinum Cuphead.
Andy Cortez
He's last of us.
Tim Gettys
He's the top three speedrunner of last of us in the world. You saw that line on kind of funny where he casually did it drinking beers. It's hilarious. Recently, I'm hanging out with him and he was asking me like, oh, like, what are you playing? And I was telling him like, all my friends were playing Expedition 33. So he got jealous of that. He played it.
Blessing Adeoye
He plot with it, of course, which
Andy Cortez
is pretty impressive, right? Yeah.
Tim Gettys
And then he was telling me, he was like, oh, what are you trying to platinum? Like, no, I'm not platinuming Expedition. Like, that is just. No. Out of my wheelhouse. It's not too bad. I really like some of the options.
Barrett
One, well, once you get like in end game leveling, you know, it's like, it's honestly not too insane because I don't think platinuming requires full 100 because there's like one like tower thing that I don't think I fully completed. Yeah, like, I don't think I fully did that, but I still got the platinum. There's one collectible.
Tim Gettys
Oh, you got the platinum in it?
Blessing Adeoye
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
Oh, okay. Cool.
Barrett
Yeah.
Andy Cortez
Shit's uncapped when those, when those frame rates are uncapped, you know you're hitting 290 frames per second. Yeah. It's crazy.
Tim Gettys
But so, so he. He did that and. And I was like, just impressed with the sheer time commitment of me from it going from him not knowing about this game to him having it Platinum. I'm like, how is this possible? You have a job and a life and a girlfriend, like so much going on. And then he was like, oh, what else are you playing? And I started telling him about two little games. Hades 2 and Hollow Knight. Silksong. And I don't understand how this happened. No, because it was just in the last couple weeks. What if I told you no? He platinumed Hades 1 and platinumed Hollow Knight.
Blessing Adeoye
That's crazy.
Tim Gettys
He last night beat Silksong on his way to platinum it. Wow. What the hell?
Blessing Adeoye
That's a gamer, right?
Tim Gettys
We got a gamer out here.
Andy Cortez
Yeah, that's it. That's not even like casual territory.
Tim Gettys
It's insane.
Blessing Adeoye
Yeah, we got to get him on the show.
Tim Gettys
We got to figure this all out, man.
Barrett
Honestly, with the amount of games he plays, like he should just be a kind of funny game of the year vote.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, but it's so his opinions about the games though, don't Want to hear him.
Andy Cortez
But that's why I think it'd be really funny.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Andy Cortez
Anyways, my goal for the end of the year and now Jamesburg may have to be added on to this, but I say end of the year as if, like, we're in June or something. But I beat the game.
Tim Gettys
What are you doing? What are you doing, Mike?
Andy Cortez
Go.
Tim Gettys
I look over and Mike is just from the door looking at me, reaching out.
Barrett
Man has to board in an hour.
Andy Cortez
God. I, I, I beat Silksong. So did Barrett, somebody who's on their way who's almost done one. Jack Quaid. You know, we've been having some correspondences about Journey so far, and that's a. Look at me, Louie, because I feel so cool that Jack Quaid wants to talk to me about video games.
Tim Gettys
Incredibly cool.
Andy Cortez
Yeah.
Barrett
How does it go? How does the little jingle go?
Andy Cortez
Look at me, Louie.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Andy Cortez
And spoiler cast. I want to do a spoiler cast with us three, and then Tim's gonna beat it also before this baby gets
Tim Gettys
here, I'm going to that Is there a very. It's a promise I can't make, but I'm making it. Yeah, I'm making it. Wow. I can't stop thinking about Silksong.
Blessing Adeoye
Plus, dude, I wish I could get there with it. I, I started it. Well, like, when the craze was happening and I came back from traveling or whatever after, like, those initial playthroughs started, played it for a stream, and was just like, man, it's not working for, like, for my brain. For some reason, I can't get there.
Barrett
That upsets me more than, I think the, Than your journey with Psychonauts, too, honestly.
Blessing Adeoye
Really?
Barrett
Yeah. Because I think you should like Silksong. Like, but that, that it feels like your bread and butter.
Blessing Adeoye
But it's. Here's the thing, though. Metroidvanias aren't my bread and butter. I'm somebody who. I think it's rare that I fall in love with a Metroidvania. Then.
Andy Cortez
Then I don't come at so good.
Tim Gettys
I do love this idea, though, Andy. Yeah. It's motivation for me to stay on track.
Andy Cortez
You're getting. You're like, oh, I just need you to see it through.
Tim Gettys
What I need to do is I need. I have a couple games I need to review coming up in the next couple of weeks. Metroid Prime 4 is coming out within a month. Yeah.
Andy Cortez
Yeah.
Barrett
Don't forget about the very important.
Tim Gettys
Oh, I'm not forgetting Barrett. Don't worry about that.
Blessing Adeoye
Yeah.
Andy Cortez
I'm not forgetting there's a seven hour long direct coming soon.
Tim Gettys
Yeah. So though, that definitely Metroid Prime. I don't know when we're gonna get codes for that, but like, that is definitely like my biggest concern.
Blessing Adeoye
Code singular.
Tim Gettys
Time wide. Yeah, exactly. Code. But I have to do it. I have to do it for you, Andy.
Andy Cortez
You have to do it, dude. Oh, man, you have no idea the amount of peak you're about to witness.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, okay.
Andy Cortez
It somehow just gets better.
Tim Gettys
Well, I apologize for completely derailing the show multiple times. So now let's talk about Pokemon. Sure. Andy, let's start with you.
Andy Cortez
Where am I with Pokemon Z to A? I am about 12 hours ish. 10 hours ish. Somewhere around there. Hit a really, really large sort of area in the game where it's like, all right, that's a big progress mark for me. And then other reviews kind of just came into my life that I'm having to. To play right now. So unfortunately stopped playing it. And I say unfortunately because I am really enjoying Pokemon Z to A. I think it's so much fun. It's. It's what you would expect. And I have, you know, for any reason out there that people don't like it. I also have those same reasons when it comes to just, you know, the sort of cheap look in some areas when it comes to the reduced assets, when it comes to the obvious corner cutting. But it is, it's. It's got such a charm to it. It's got such a weirdness to it. I. I haven't experienced weird characters like this in a Pokemon game. I feel like in a while we're like, I don't know, maybe there was something in Scarlet and violet with weird NPCs, but this game more than anything, because it is the journey of. I have to fight the Rank Z trainer. Beat that, dude. Now it's time for Rank X. And now it's rank. You know, like, notice how I stop because I forget what comes next. W. Yeah. Oh, I missed. Why? I skipped. Why?
Blessing Adeoye
Oh, there it is.
Andy Cortez
Why?
Blessing Adeoye
Say I've practiced it. Practice. I can't talk again. I'm rattled. I practice this, like the idea of saying the Alphabet backwards. Not because I'm going to drink and drive, because I'm not.
Barrett
In case.
Blessing Adeoye
Just in case I get that moment and I'm like, all right, officer. I got.
Andy Cortez
I can't do it sober.
Barrett
So I feel like that's a terrible test.
Andy Cortez
You never know if you're going to get hit by like a sleep dart and you're going to have to, like, you know, like, oh, my God.
Tim Gettys
Z, Y, X, W, V. In San Francisco, the. The west side of the city, like, the residential areas where I've lived my whole life. The. On the. This side of the park, like, like, past the past, Golden Gate park, it's all alphabetical. Like, every street is alphabetical. And so it's like that. I, as a kid, was obsessed with that because it's like that. I'm, like, trying to think of it, and you always just try to, like, think of how far the streets are or whatever, and you start doing the Alphabet backwards, forwards, all that stuff. But it's always thrown me off of, like, it starts at L and it ends at W. And I'm like, what are we doing here?
Barrett
But it's also weird because it goes, like. I don't consider that first L like part of it, because then it goes.
Tim Gettys
No, you're right, it goes. I'm talking about the second L. Yeah,
Barrett
because it goes to I. Yeah, it starts at I. But tech, technically, it starts on the other side of the park because then you have your A, B, and C.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, but there's just no dude shout out to JG.
Andy Cortez
In the YouTube chat, it says, this is a good episode. Y' all are making good content. Thank you, Jason.
Blessing Adeoye
If you're from San Francisco, we're making content for you.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, like, what the. If you're not from San Francisco. That's one of, I think, one of our biggest flaws. If you're gonna commit to the Alphabet, commit to the Alphabet.
Andy Cortez
I'll tell you what. Yesterday, Nick Scarpino says, my car is back in the shop. Andy, I need a ride home. Or can you, like, at least just drive me to your apartment? Then I'll Uber from there? So it's not a 50 Uber. So I say, yeah, no problem. And I did the same thing again. As we're driving on 19th, like, going through Golden Gate Park, I was like,
Tim Gettys
so you're going through all of this?
Andy Cortez
Look, look, look, Nick, look to the right. Would you ever guess that there's, like, a park in there? Look at it. It just looks like woods. I would have assumed there's a goddamn Bigfoot living in there.
Tim Gettys
Just.
Andy Cortez
Just trees and all sorts of bigger people would have known. So anyway, yes, the Pokemon Za Legends. Very, very good. Very enjoyable. Weird ass characters, quirky ass stuff. There's a lot of that. I'm not sure how far Blessing got through.
Blessing Adeoye
I barely touched it.
Andy Cortez
Okay, so there. There's just a lot of weird, funny NPCs that you are battling on your way as you rank up. And they are, like, the most random. They have the most random motivations. I think it's hilarious.
Tim Gettys
It's the cartoon and cute.
Andy Cortez
Yeah, right?
Tim Gettys
It's like. It's like. It's. There's. Obviously, we watch the Pokemon anime, and it's like, it's Ash going to the gyms, but in between gyms, he's going to a town, and he meets this guy that is trying to be a skydiver. And you're like, I guess that's what this episode's about. Like, it has that vibe with these. With the battle royale, one of the
Andy Cortez
dudes says, when I get to rank A and become the Pokemon champion, I'm gonna make it so that the only cars here in the city are taxis.
Blessing Adeoye
Whoa.
Andy Cortez
He's like, I'm all. Like, I'm a taxi driver. Like, that's all he wants. And it's just like. It's so weird and goofy and the dialog is funny. But I'm also having a lot of. A lot more fun with it because I am streaming it and I am laughing with the chat, and I am, you know, doing the voices for the characters, and it's. It's a really, really good.
Tim Gettys
Has to, huh? Someone has to.
Andy Cortez
Someone has to. Exactly. I'm having a really good time with it so far. I want to get back to it. I'm. I've been battling myself to not play it off stream because I want that sort of communal experience, and that's how much I'm enjoying it. Like, I. I'm digging these little side quests. I'm digging the loop of. All right, time for the next ranked battle. You got to go to the wild, or you have to go to the battle zone first to get the ticket or whatever to then battle whoever's at the next rank. And that loop is really enjoyable. I'm having a lot of fun with it in addition to going to the wild zones. And I totally see how at first I was like, I mean, there's. I have no reason to want to 100 this, but as you go through it and you see that the rank one wild zone and rank two and rank three, and rank four, and rank five wild zones you've completed, you've caught 100 of the Pokemon in 1, 2, and 3, but four, there's two missing. It's like, well, I gotta go. Whoever's missing two, I want to go see who's missing there. And then sometimes you have to Wait till night. And then up pops a ghastly or whatever. It's like, oh, it's got all of those thrills that I loved from Scarlet and Violet and you know, gets you ex, gets you excited when you see one of those Pokemon in the wild. I gotta go catch that. Yeah, I'm having a lot of fun with it. I think it's like such an enjoyable game. It's, it's quirky, it's goofy. So much of it does not make sense. But I, I'm here for the ride.
Tim Gettys
Do you think you're going to complete the ride? Like do you see yourself seeing this all the way to the end?
Andy Cortez
100 I don't know if I'm going to beat it before the end of the year just with the way the rest of the year is stacking up. But yeah, I, I thousand percent do see myself beating it.
Tim Gettys
And I mean you might have already answered this question with what you just said, but is there any chance this is a contender?
Andy Cortez
No, I think the year's too stacked. Yeah, I really do. I think the year is so strong and there are going to be a lot of games that I would have said at the time while playing them in April, May or June going this is an easy top 10. Or for me this is definitely making my top 10. And I, and then more stuff came out and more and more stuff just keeps on being released and more and more high quality stuff. So I, I don't see it making my top 10. It would have in the way that I put Violet in my, in my top 10 that year that Violet came out because of the, because it being a more kind of traditional Pokemon experience. Having the different biomes, going to the ice zone for, going to the Snowy zone for ice Pokemon and whatever. Going to this volcanic area for those type Pokemon. The city aspect is still like not my favorite. But I, I, I think I way overshot how much I wasn't going to dig the city experience. I really thought it was just going to be like ah, it's just, and you are still just running around the same looking buildings all over the place. Tiled textures against the wall, all over the place. But I thought I was going to dislike that experience a lot more than I actually do. I think it's like serviceable enough and makes me way more stoked for gen 10, whatever that's going to be. Yeah.
Tim Gettys
Bless. I know you don't have much to say about Pokemon Legends. My question to you is, are you planning to give it any more time or are you Kind of like this isn't for me.
Blessing Adeoye
I don't think it's for me. It's that weird thing where even as I hear you guys talk about it and I hear how much you're enjoying it, I'm not hearing things that necessarily speak to me for the kind of Pokemon fan that I am. And I think maybe it's the combat system that just isn't speaking to me. I like the turn based of how traditional Pokemon games go. I liked even the open world of Scarlet and Violet and how that functioned, how that went. I really liked it. But I think there's something about being in the Switch 2 era and I know that it's, you know, this game runs better than Scarlet did back on Switch one and all that stuff. There's something about it where. Booting it up. I played it at like the second half of a stream that I did weeks and weeks ago and I played maybe about 30 minutes before. I was like, I just can't do this. Where I. It's the lack of voice acting, it's how lo fi isn't the word but I guess just how non modern it looks in a lot of like its visual direction and even like the art style isn't really speaking to me as much which is funny because it worked so well last time around with Scarlet and Violet. But I don't know. Yeah, I think I hit my breaking point a little bit where I'm like if I'm going to tolerate this, I have to be all the way in into like what the premise of the game is and what the gameplay is and all that stuff. And for me I just didn't have it in me.
Andy Cortez
It's so funny to me how impressive some of the interiors look like. And it's really only the interiors where like the interiors have like a depth and a kind of like not environmental fog. But there's like a. There's like a fall off vision wise or it's like why does this room look so good for this?
Barrett
And like even like small details in terms of just like wall patterns and stuff. Like it reminds me of Sword and Shield a little bit of just like some of those environments outside looked like really looked really good and it was like, oh man, it's been a while since we've had something like this.
Andy Cortez
Some of the interiors reminded me of the pre rendered backgrounds in like Resident Evil games I guess in terms of the shading and like textures and lighting work that they're doing. And then you walk outside and it's. Yeah, it's the same tiling textures all over the place. There is a cool dude bless that does collect any pokeballs that you errantly throw. He'll be like, oh dude, you. You know, because around the gate you're supposed to be throwing your. Your Pokemon at little crystals on the wall to break down things to collect or materials. But with the control scheme, I'm always just like accidentally throwing a pokeball and just like throwing it into the ether and it's just like, oh, there goes a great ball. But then there's this random. These random dude that always stands around poke centers. He's always like, hey, come talk to me. You talk to me. He's like, hey, I got 11 pokeballs that you up and just threw to the. Here they are returns. It's like, oh, thank you. Thanks for giving them. Yeah, that guy rocks.
Tim Gettys
Barrett, I have no idea how far you are in this game and what your thoughts are on it. What are they?
Barrett
I'm a about 11 hours into Pokemon Legends. Za I. I was very excited for this game. As someone who is a big fan of Pokemon xy, which was the generation that brought me back in. Loved being back in the. Love the idea of being back in this region. And then also the the premise, right? Like when they first revealed Pokemon Legends, ah we were like why is it named this? But then getting the okay, here's this like battle Royale where you start at Rank Z and you're working your way up to Rank A. As someone who is a longtime defender of Tony Hawk's Project 8 where you start at level 100 or whatever and the whole thing is make it to Tony Hawk's like his like top eight crew. He who he's going to bring into his team. You know, that is the coolest thing ever to me. And I was really into that idea for Z because Legends Arceus, I liked what they were experimenting with, but I felt like it was a little too not loose but like unfocused in terms of like I like being able to explore around. But I never felt like I had a real good tangential goal to build to. And I like them sprucing that up here with like not going full on gym route but the back and forth of like okay, daytime you're going out and exploring and catching all these mons and then nighttime, it's time for the battle Royale, baby. I I really love that premise and it drives me insane that they do not stick with that premise. I hate like I just spoilers for this game. I hate that I get to Rank V. And they're like, let's rank you all the way up to rank F. And it's like, just commit to the premise, man. Like, what are we doing here? And it feels like they write themselves into. Like they specifically wrote around. Like, we don't. We're already so far into development in this game, we can't back away from this idea. So let's just write a plot beat to get you to skip, like, half of what the selling point of this game is. And I just. I don't find it very interesting in terms of, like, all the other story stuff going on. I don't care about the characters, which is unfortunate. It's fun to see some characters back from. From X and Y in that. That universe, but as far as, like, this group of kids, I'm just like, oh, man, I'm. I'm checked out. And then the other thing is, like, presentation. Like, I've always. I've always been more forgiving than you, Tim, in terms of the last couple of generations of like, okay, yeah, it doesn't have voice acting, but it still gets the point across. There are some moments in this game where I'm like, oh, I. I finally feel it. Like, this is starting to get ridiculous. Like, one of the first moments where you have the. The little flower Pokemon. I forget where it does, like, its huge move and like, that entire cutscene is present, presented as, like, this really almost high budget for a Pokemon game type of thing. And it's so weird that there's just nothing, not even like a little, like, reaction voice, like a. Like a link or something like that. It's just silent. And it's just so weird. 10 to 12 hours in, I. I find myself waning. I don't know if I'm gonna finish this game, which is the first time I can say that about a Pokemon game, probably since I got back into the series, which is unfortunate.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Andy Cortez
But with you, I don't know if I would have finished or wanted to commit to the game if I had to go through Z to A. And even though I wasn't happy with that. Even though you're told it's gonna happen. Yeah, it's still happening. I was like, did you run out of video game or what The.
Tim Gettys
Yeah. So, Barrett, I will say I hated that happening in the game. And I'll be vague because obviously, like, I feel like that is early enough that, like, at this point I think it's okay to talk about, but I won't say exactly what happens after. But what I Will say is as upset as I was that they made that decision. I do think the rest of the game more than makes up for it and I think takes it in a direction that allows them to have each of the remaining ranks actually feel like a dungeon and story to themselves. And it, it kind of like progresses in a way that's incredibly satisfying and would have been impossible to do for 26. And then when you get to the post game, any problem you might have had completely addressed, like there's a lot of good stuff going on and it's like at that point, are you going to want to do it? I'll tell you right now, I don't. Yeah. Like I don't. Like I, I haven't picked up the game. Maybe I did like two times since I did the review. There's been a lot going on as well. But I am not incentivized to do the post game stuff. But the post game stuff does address the criticisms I had about.
Blessing Adeoye
Yeah. Email three minutes ago.
Tim Gettys
By the way, it's not good, but bear.
Blessing Adeoye
Finish your thought before I get there. This affects you as well.
Barrett
No, I, I imagine I know what it is. It's. It's about. But anyways,
Blessing Adeoye
the.
Barrett
What is it you're saying? So like the thing that I just got to you was the level skipping stuff like the wind was taken out from under myself. Are you saying the, the hump that I just got over. Are you saying the rest of the game, there's. There's juice there that might be worth it.
Tim Gettys
Yes. And again, without going too in depth, what I'm saying is like as cool and interesting as the first couple ranks are like the Z and Y and X like as it was. Oh, this is nifty. And whatever like D, C, B, A are like so vastly superior to the beginning ones that it's like okay, like they're, they're doing something here and it feels way more fleshed out. Maybe they shouldn't have called a Z to A. You know what I mean? Like I feel like it would have been much.
Andy Cortez
They're trying to be too cute with the X.
Tim Gettys
Exactly, exactly. Because that's that really, really, really kind of like it, it takes the wind out of your sails. It doesn't feel good because it, it feels like you just skip too far ahead. But like the loving care put into the higher ranks. It's like easily like the best parts of the game. So. But also if you never got to it, that's fine.
Blessing Adeoye
Some of this email unbeatable got delayed this Game was coming out tomorrow.
Barrett
Tomorrow.
Blessing Adeoye
It came in from PR at Playstag where they say, I know a lot of people have been very excited to get their hands on Unbeatable, but this morning we have made the near impossible decision to delay the game to December 9th. Insane.
Tim Gettys
September's getting crazy.
Blessing Adeoye
I know this is abrupt and sudden, but we believe it's the right decision to make for the sake of the game. They have a full statement that I'll open up and look at.
Tim Gettys
Get it right, though.
Blessing Adeoye
I mean, get it right.
Tim Gettys
It's just.
Andy Cortez
Dang.
Blessing Adeoye
The game was coming out tomorrow. That's the crazy thing. Like, me and Barrett were making plans to possibly stream it. Like, that's how.
Barrett
Yeah, like that.
Andy Cortez
Yeah.
Barrett
And so that.
Andy Cortez
That.
Barrett
That sucks. But, yeah, make the. Make the right decision for the game. It is one of those, like, you know, I've been following that team, like, on socials for a bit, and I feel like it's possibly, like, not the game itself, but I do wonder, this being a smaller dev, I think this is their first, like, actual release outside of just, like, the white label demo and stuff. I do wonder them launching on console and stuff of, like, if this has to do with, like.
Blessing Adeoye
Well, they put the reason here right. They're saying. They're only saying it now because they made. They only made the decision a few hours ago. There's a very important. There's a very boring and frustrating reason. QA hit a low repro progression blocker last night. That's serious enough. It's considered unreleasable. Fixing this would require pushing the console release date back because of certain timelines and not fixing this as well. We refuse to do that. We're fixing it.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Blessing Adeoye
So fix the game.
Barrett
Yeah.
Blessing Adeoye
Make it work.
Tim Gettys
I played the demo again this weekend just because I was so excited.
Barrett
I'm so fucking pumped for this game. I'm so ready for it tomorrow.
Blessing Adeoye
God damn it.
Barrett
But that's, you know, hey, that's one less thing I have to worry about right now to loop it back to Pokemon. Right? Like, with the wind being taken out of my sails. Like, I also have Absolum that I'm addicted to right now. We have Dispatch every Wednesday. I'm excited to play episodes five and six this evening. We can say it now. Like, I have been playing Hyrule Warriors, Age of Imprisonment. That we'll talk about tomorrow. And then that was stressing me out with, like, Unbeatable coming out tomorrow. Luminous arise. Next week. SpongeBob SquarePants. Titans of the Tide. I know that's like a very. That's a very me thing. But, like, I fucking love the 3D Spongebob games.
Andy Cortez
Right?
Barrett
And so it's just like there's too much going on. So honestly, if one game gets. Gets put one of my most anticipated games for the last couple years gets pushed a month, maybe that actually helps me in terms of actually finishing Za.
Andy Cortez
We'll see.
Blessing Adeoye
Have you ever played no man, not no man sky, no More Heroes. Because that's another game that has like the ranking 10 to 1 aspect and they stick to it. Yeah, they stick to it. Not in the sequel, but in the original one.
Barrett
I appreciate them sticking to that structure. I. I don't know if that, like that world and that, like, I feel story really, like, has taken me at all. I've seen so many trailers for those games.
Blessing Adeoye
See, I feel like if a younger bear played no man, why do I keep wanting to call no man sky no More Heroes? I feel like if a younger Barrett played no More Heroes, he would have with it. You know, if you played. Played at the same era where you played bowling and skate and it'd be a U game. Yeah, but now you're washed. Who can say, you know? Yeah, you know, unless maybe you go. But maybe you go play it. You try it out.
Barrett
Don't fucking try to bully me
Andy Cortez
instead of punished Snake. It's Washed Bear.
Tim Gettys
Oh, man. Everybody, hey, we're gonna be right back talking about a whole bunch of different games that Andy and the boys have been playing after a quick word from our sponsors. This episode is brought to you by a absolutely amazing and free way that you could support Kinda Funny. Very often y' all ask, what's the best way to support Kind of Funny? Not with money, but with our love and our support. And right now, the best way you can do that is by supporting us on Spotify. We've been getting a lot of really good energy, good juice going with the support we've been getting on Spotify. And Spotify are starting to notice. So if y' all could do me a favor, even if you don't normally listen to us on Spotify, it would go such a long way. If you can go to the pages for the kind of Funny podcast, Kind of funny games daily, kind of funny games, cast and Kind of funny in review and follow them on Spotify. Go rate them as high as you want to. Rate them as accurately as you want to. But if I'm being real, I'd really prefer if you just did as high as you're willing to go. It would go such a long way for us. We have video on Spotify now, and that's an amazing opportunity for kind of funny to get in front of an entire new audience. YouTube, been there, done that. We, you know, are kind of where we're probably going to be forever. But on Spotify, the potential is limitless. And that is all up to you and your support. So thank you very much. Wherever you listen to us, wherever you watch us, wherever you put your hard earned dollars, we really, really appreciate you. But we always want to be here for you, whether it's free or not. We love you. Thank you so much. Spring is here, and there's a whole
Blessing Adeoye
new way to chai at Starbucks that's
Tim Gettys
made perfect for you.
Blessing Adeoye
Choose your sweetness, Dial it up.
Tim Gettys
Or keep things light. Add a touch of pistachio, a hint of strawberry or vanilla, or make it a spring classic with lavender.
Blessing Adeoye
Because this season, there's endless ways to chai at Starbucks.
Tim Gettys
And we are back. You know, earlier I said Andy, but I want to start with Bless. I want to get him off the bench just a little bit here. You beat Hades, too?
Blessing Adeoye
I beat Hades two, yeah.
Tim Gettys
What does that mean to you?
Blessing Adeoye
I rolled credits, okay. I beat up fucking Kronos a bunch of times. I beat up the other guy upstairs a bunch of times, and I rolled story credits. Now, I know there's still epilogue, there's still like the curses or the fear level, things that you can turn up, the difficulty with that I've messed around with a little bit, but for the sake of rolling credits for my last couple of runs, rolled that back so I could actually beat this game, man. This game is. I haven't made the decision on whether this or Blueprints is my actual game of the year, but Hades 2 is there.
Tim Gettys
This is very exciting for me to hear.
Andy Cortez
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
And a bit of a surprise because I know you've been loving Hades too, but I kind of feel like it's been like in the background thing for you and you're just kind of like, like working at it. But I didn't. I didn't expect you to have it this high.
Barrett
Okay.
Blessing Adeoye
Yeah, no, I've been playing this in the shadows. Just like, just working at this.
Tim Gettys
Return to Shadow now.
Blessing Adeoye
Return. But, like, it's so. It's crazy. I think the crazier thing, honestly, is how much I enjoyed Hades one, but it wasn't like my, oh, this is the best game of all time kind of thing. I appreciated many aspects about it. I understood why other people loved it so much. But I never hit that level with Hades 1. Hades 2. I know we've said this a million times, but Hades 2 for me just fixes so any. Any problem or issue or any like, weird thing I had with Hades 1. Hades 2 does away with. I didn't really like a lot of the dash attacks in Hades one and like, how that felt to like even press the buttons for that. Hades 2 does away with that for the most part. It comes in some places, but it's not like a main mechanic. I. I have to issue an apology to Andy and the kind of funny community and the Hades community.
Tim Gettys
You be casted.
Blessing Adeoye
Oh, the casting is so good.
Tim Gettys
We got it, boys.
Blessing Adeoye
Guys, I don't know if you ever pressed the circle button in this game. Oh, but doesn't make a difference. Oh, man, what I tell you when you start upgrading those casts where it's like, yo, if you even step in this into. Into this circle, they stop moving. You're getting.
Andy Cortez
It's crazy.
Blessing Adeoye
You're taking more damage moving assault blade might come in and kill you.
Andy Cortez
We had a. A great back and forth. I was like, bless. Yeah. You saying you don't like Cassie? It's like me going like, yeah, I'm really digging playing Tekken, but, you know, I'm not a kicking guy. I like punching mostly.
Blessing Adeoye
You know, I mean, that's so.
Andy Cortez
He was like, that's not the same. And. And I was g. I was so close to issuing a challenge of being like, like, let's speedrun. Who could get to the boss first. You can't use cast. I could use the whole thing and we'll see how useful it is.
Blessing Adeoye
I mean, I still. I still might take you on that challenge, but honestly, like, yeah, casting has changed the game for me. And it's like, it's one of those things where I'm understanding why they have that. Like, is it called Fear? Whatever system it is where you can upgrade the difficulty levels and like, you know, tinker a bit. I understand why they have that now because it's. It's crazy how this game goes from, oh, man, I don't know if I'm getting past the second boss to, oh, I'm gonna dog walk you crazy Prometheus. You know, like, anybody. Any boss that's coming at me now, that's not like one of the final bosses. Even Kronos is getting dog walked. Like, I'm fucking destroying these. And so I really like the progression system of this game. It's kept me in. I like all the hub stuff. I Think the way that they really refined and giving you the gardening stuff and giving you like the fishing and the different activities you can do with characters and how they develop all that stuff really good. I saw a lot of people talking about the ending as being not as great and I, I think I see a little bit of where they're coming from. But overall, I still really like the ending. I'm not gonna get into spoilers or anything. I think it's just the thing of Hades 2 does such a great job of giving you the story via the characters and like, I think sprinkling in the story moments more so than being plot and story heavy. Right.
Tim Gettys
Journey?
Blessing Adeoye
Yeah. The game doesn't yap at you. The game is very much like, hey, we have a lot of story to tell. But it is so well integrated into the gameplay that you don't even. You barely even notice that you're getting story when you're playing the game. What's up, Barrett? My.
Barrett
My two cents is like, I, I didn't think of the ending as like bad or anything. I just for me personally, I don't think the premise of Hades 2 is nearly as interesting as Hades 1, so
Blessing Adeoye
I feel like that I see that
Barrett
wrap up doesn't hit as hard because I think the ultimate goal of Hades 1, it is much more personal that like, I just don't feel that by the end of Hades too. So I, I think that's where maybe some people are kind of feeling that of like, oh, wait, huh.
Blessing Adeoye
I guess I could understand that for sure because yeah, for me it was like, got to the ending and I was like, oh, there's a lot of story here. And I didn't, I didn't think. I think that's when I first thought about the fact that, oh, I don't really think about the plot to this game that much. I think about the overall goals. But you get to the ending and it's almost like a shift of, oh, okay, all this stuff is happening. Like, all right, cool. I don't know if I care as much about the ending of this game, but it's not. I didn't finish it and go, damn, what the. They took the wind out of my sales or anything like that. I think it's just the fact that I was never that invested into like, some of the storytelling they were doing on that side. Even though I really like the characters and the relationships and all that stuff.
Tim Gettys
Oh yeah.
Blessing Adeoye
Really adored the game.
Andy Cortez
I'm super pumped to beat it now because it's something I never Rolled credits on. I. I don't. I. I've mentioned it before, but. But I made just the dumb mistake of trying to challenge myself more with the Heat system or the Fear system. And it's like I haven't even beat the game yet. Just be the game first, then you can do the challenge stuff. But there was a patch last week where they've added a whole bunch of stuff narratively and changed stuff. And so, like, I did not hear. There's a lot of stuff that. That is redacted in the notes that I will redact here purposely, because I don't even want to spoil myself. But it's like, added new events with blank on the path to blank. Added new events with blank. And after the true ending, added more contextual voice lines for Milena Wee and Hecate in certain situations. Skillia now reveals blank Icarus. Like, there's like, a lot more stuff that they are adding to maybe fill in gaps more where people may. May have had issues. Maybe those problems don't fix issues for everybody else. But I. I do feel like I'm almost, once I beat it, maybe kind of getting the Death Stranding director's cut experience where it's like, yeah. Oh. Like, I'm getting kind of an experience that's a bit more filled out now when I finally do beat it.
Tim Gettys
Hell yeah.
Blessing Adeoye
Love to hear when you beating this game?
Tim Gettys
I'm beating it. I don't know when. How many times do you need to beat down and how many times you need to beat up?
Andy Cortez
I don't want to know.
Tim Gettys
Okay. Okay.
Andy Cortez
But I know I'm. I know I'm close. Yeah.
Tim Gettys
I think I do want to know off camera, let me know because that'll
Andy Cortez
give them a little slack.
Blessing Adeoye
My hours are at 56 in this game, if that helps.
Tim Gettys
Okay.
Blessing Adeoye
That's including the beta or whatever.
Tim Gettys
Yeah. I mean, I think I'm at like 45 or something like that.
Andy Cortez
Sent him a slack. Let him react to it. I'm gonna react to him reacting to the number.
Blessing Adeoye
I don't even know if I know the numbers.
Barrett
What, for Andy?
Blessing Adeoye
No, for, like, how many times you gotta beat each boss?
Tim Gettys
Oh, I think down and how slack me. That's what we're saying. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. How many down and how many up? That's what I need to know. But, yeah. No, I adore this game. Yeah. Like, I can't wait to get back to it. But, yeah, I'm not get back to. I keep playing like, this is the 80s two is the thing that I'm playing every single night. Like on this. Yeah. Which is fantastic. Andy, let's jump to you. Speaking of Gods, I've been playing a
Andy Cortez
lot of stuff recently, but I do want to point out a game that I really, really, really want to get to hopefully by the end of the year. It's a single player to a four player co op roguelite action adventure type thing called Godbreakers. It. I played a demo for it on Steam a while back during early access. The game fully came out. It is a. It's got all the hooks of why we love Roguelites. It has a really kind of cool and appealing art style with awesome telegraphed boss fight or boss attacks and patterns and things like that. And. And yeah, it's one to four player if you want to eventually play through it. So I'm. This is one that I really, really want to get to because I had so much fun with the demo. I'm just so packed and filled with a bunch of different video games right now. It's like, will I have time to get to it? I really, really want to because I had such a freaking blast with it. And you know, the, the level up system and the way that the powers and abilities progress are super fun and why we love Roguelites. And you know, I kept on, I kept on thinking of Bless. Whenever I'd get to the three choices I'm like, oh, this is just so my shit right here. And. And now I get more chain damage on enemies and when that does happen then I get a percentage of getting health back. Like all the stuff why we. All the reasons why we love Roguelites are all here. And yeah, this is one that I really, really want to get to. It's like I, I don't. It's a game that I don't even know who makes it. Like it just kind of popped out of nowhere. I saw the IM on Steam next. I was like, whoa, this looks kind of high quality. And it's a developer called to the sky, published by Thunderful.
Tim Gettys
Okay.
Andy Cortez
But when I was in there I was like, whoa, this is like way higher quality than I expected. And it was just, it was a lot of fun and one that I want to get to eventually, hopefully before the end of the year happens. And then games that I've been playing recently, I mean there's a buttload of them. I did start Dispatch last night. Nice. Played episodes one and two. Had a real good time with it. Holy cow. That's a good game, man. I'm playing. It's like you Know, I had to pause it, just be like, man, this, this writing is so good.
Blessing Adeoye
Dude, writing is good.
Andy Cortez
Art style is getting the, you know, just little quips here and there that could have easily been skipped. But they just add so much character to these people in the world. And so Aaron Paul's killing it.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, my plan is play this on, at least start it with G this weekend. I'm already sold. I know the writing is great, know the voice acting. What's the game? What's the gameplay?
Andy Cortez
The gameplay is a management sort of sim. When you hop into the dispatching, you have six heroes that are part of your crew. You are kind of like the team lead. And you see a map and then a little emergency will pop up and there's always a little cool down timer and you click the little emergency and it'll say a cat got stuck in a tree. And it's like, all right. Well, it's telling me the person has to climb 40 foot tall tree. That's going to require a hero with a lot of mobility. Which heroes have good mobility, a higher score there. Which heroes are going to have the best chance to make this a successful mission. Let me send them out there and put them in the best spot to have them succeed. And, and then some. You know, in episodes one and two you get into some interesting moments where it's like, well, this hero has a very conditional thing where if you put them in the first slot, they unlock an extra perk or something. It's like, oh, cool. Because you could send multiple heroes out on one quest and maybe the quest is, well, you need heroes that are going to be able to withstand a lot of damage, but also heroes that can like outsmart. So it's like, all right, I'm looking for health and intellect and got to send those heroes out there and then it'll kind of pop up with neat little surprises. I. It's, it's like more than serviceable. The gameplay like this, this part is what I was, you know, hoping I'd get a little bit more from, but it's still more than what I was expecting.
Blessing Adeoye
It's weird. It's so deep that you would think those segments would be even longer than they are, but I think in order to kind of keep the story going and keep it flowing right, they, they keep it concise to where an episode of this game is no longer than 45 minutes and maybe about like 15 of the minutes, 15 to 20 minutes are spent doing this segment right here. And the computer management stuff, the other half of the gameplay is straight up like you're making dialogue decisions and doing quick time events while the cinematics are going.
Andy Cortez
I did turn off the quick time events and then kind of regretted it, but then was overall happy with the decision. Yeah, because when the quicktime events, when you turn off the quicktime events, person jumps at your character and slowed down and you're like, oh, this is why I'm supposed to be hitting the button. But it's still doing it, even though I turned it off. But it's just wildly impressive.
Blessing Adeoye
I was. When we're talking about the gameplay side of it.
Tim Gettys
Right.
Blessing Adeoye
One thing I love about choose your adventure games or narrative storytelling games is when the choices feel like they matter. I know Greg was talking about Walking Dead yesterday and Walking Dead, I think was one of those games that really upped the ante as far as what you can do with that. Now then credit Life is strange for even going with that. Right. This game in episode four, I think gave me a choice where I had to pause the game and sit there and be like, ah, I don't know where I'm going with this. And then at the end of the day I was like, I know where I'm going with this. But it. I, I think the writing here is so strong and the story choices here are so strong that, you know, early, earlier on I could have seen this being just a. Oh, you could have just made this an Amazon show because the, you know, the animation quality is so good and the acting is so good, but the decisions that they, that they continue to give you in the game end up being so good that I'm like, no, I'm glad this is a video game. Like, I'm glad I'm involved in deciding what the character is doing here.
Andy Cortez
Way more raunchy than I was expecting. Yeah, it's definitely like invincible the boys type vibes in terms of the, the, the, you know, swear words and the profanity and gore and sexual innuendos and. But it's, it's. It. The writing is so unbelievably strong. Like, it's thinking back to other TV shows I've watched in the past couple years, it's like, oh, man, this is so much more impressive than a lot of MCU shows I've watched. Not like Loki or whatever, but, you know, like just from moment to moment, from the way the characters have little back and forths, the way they are building rapport, the way they obviously have reports. Dude, it's so impressive. Yeah, so impressive.
Blessing Adeoye
There's Such good analogs to the existing superhero stuff that we get. Like, obviously they're doing kind of like a Suicide Squad, you know, type of thing. When you look at the Z Team and them being a group of misfits that were villains that, you know, you're dispatching as heroes. But then a lot of them have very direct analogs to, okay, this guy's Iron man, this person's Wonder Woman. This person is. What's her name? Sue Storm.
Andy Cortez
This person like Sandman.
Blessing Adeoye
Yeah, they all have a comparison or like a parody. What are you thinking of?
Andy Cortez
It wasn't. No, it was Sandman because one of the enemies, one of the dudes on your squad, I was like, oh, this looks like this looks like one of the dudes from Batman the Animated Series. And I was like, is it a mix of these two? And they're like, no, I'm pretty sure it's just Clay Face. I. It. Yeah.
Barrett
Gollum looks like Clayface.
Andy Cortez
I it up again. Yeah.
Blessing Adeoye
But even though they're all like, okay, well, this is obviously this person, it all still feels original at the same time. Like, I care about these characters as individuals. They have unique things that they bring to the table. It reminds me, I mean, I think it's in that same conversation as the Boys and Invincible of what it reminds me of and the amount of quality that it brings to that.
Andy Cortez
Very, very good.
Barrett
Final episodes out next week. I think we're planning on doing a full review and spoiler cast for that.
Blessing Adeoye
So, yeah, look out for that.
Tim Gettys
Very cool.
Andy Cortez
I've also been playing a little Metroidvania called Metroid Prime Remastered.
Tim Gettys
And Andy. Yeah, this warms my heart. I lost watched Game Stale yesterday. I heard you and Gray talk about Metroid Prime 4 and you talk about your experience with Metro Primary Master. That warmed my heart a couple of years ago when you fell in love with it. Where are you at with this, Andy?
Andy Cortez
Because I don't know, I'm about eight hour, eight to 10 hours in, been playing like about an hour a night. I would love it a lot more if I weren't spoiled by the modern conveniences of. Of, you know, quality of life changes. I. I wish I could play this on PC with mods, with fast travel mods, things of that nature. Because there have been a couple of things that have really bummed me out by the game design in the way that when I. I think back to my first time playing Super Mario Sunshine and I hit a game over screen, I was like, what? Oh, my God. Yeah, I haven't hit A game over in 25 years and now I just have to start. Now I'm back at the start menu, like what the. You know, and there, there have been a couple of moments where I am playing the game. I played for about an 45 minutes, died, went all the way back to the start and I was like, oh, all right. Well, I just lost the last 45 minutes of progress because I didn't save. And so I'm just going to turn it off for the night because that sucks, you know, but a lot of that is just, you know, the, the game was built that way back in the day and you know, things have changed now with, you know, giving a lot of people of autosave and fast travel more fast travel spots. But I am, I mean I think the, the overall game design is, it is exemplary. Like it is, it is so strong and so damn good and interesting. And I did hit a, another kind of frustrating moment the other day where I unlocked the little ball speed boost.
Blessing Adeoye
Yeah.
Andy Cortez
And then proceeded to die about 45 minutes later. And I was like, all right, I gotta. Like that sucks. Came back the next night, started back up again, traveled all the way back to the spot that I was trying to go to where I knew there was a ramp available. I don't have my ball speed. It didn't save the fact that I got the ball speed.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Andy Cortez
Even though, like, oh, I had to go back and get the ball speed. Like, oh, really? That could have been like a make or break moment for me just with the amount of time I'm able to put towards this, you know, and. But I'm like, I'm still making my way through it because I'm enjoying it a lot and I thought I'd be a lot less into the lock on shooting and all that. It's, it's. I mean I think the scanning is cool and stuff, but it's like once I realized this game is not about accuracy, this game is about timing and the, the whole shooting is not about trying to be pinpoint accurate thing because it's, it's locking on for you. It's more about shooting at the right time and when that enemy pops up, you want. That's when you kind of let go of that fully charged shot or whatever. It's. It's awesome. Game's great music. So cool. The vibes are awesome. I am kind of stuck in a moment right now where I got to the snow spot and I've been going back to other ramp areas, but so far on my map there aren't any question marks. And I'm like, man, I, there's got to be a little, a little bomb ball spot that I got to go at. But I'm right now I'm kind of stuck. And I'm probably going to Google what to do next because I just don't know where to go right now.
Tim Gettys
Why are you playing it now? Is this a gearing up?
Andy Cortez
Because 4 is coming out and it's like, I, I need to also when, you know, I, I, I know it deserves a spot on the top 100, and I know that it has so much, you know, there's so much legacy to this video game and I really, really want to get there and see it through. Because especially after Blessing saying, like, I'm not a Metroidvania guy, Blessing beat it was like, yeah, I totally see why. And I go to video game. I'm in the same spot too, where it's like, yep, you guys have talked this up for a long time with very good reason because it is a very awesome, awesomely crafted video game. And it looks and runs great on Switch too.
Blessing Adeoye
Yep.
Tim Gettys
Oh yeah.
Blessing Adeoye
Oh yeah.
Tim Gettys
I want to run through a bunch of super chats before we end the show here. Jackson says ZA has been a blast. I love its battle system. This is the Pokemon game I've played the most of. I haven't beat it yet, but I
Blessing Adeoye
want to the most of. Wow.
Tim Gettys
Resolute says Kingdom Hearts 4 Greater than Final Fantasy 7 Remake 3 King Marshall where we see in that. I highly doubt we see that at a game awards, but there has been a big shift recently of some of the bigger Japanese companies focusing less on PlayStation and more on Jeff or other things like the Resident Evil games. Like back in the day used to be a sure thing that, oh, the next game is going to be Talked about a PlayStation now kind of feels like that those days are over. And I think we're starting to see that with Square as well. Like Most of the 7 Series announcements, they started on the PlayStation side of things and then they slowly turned into Summer Game Fest and Game Awards.
Andy Cortez
So for the Twitch chat that may have missed it or any YouTube channel may have missed it, I was talking about Metroid Prime Remastered, the remaster that came out three years ago. Four years ago.
Tim Gettys
Two years ago.
Andy Cortez
Two years. Okay, so. But it again for Switch 2 owners, it doesn't go like full 4K resolution, but the frame rate was always unlocked and it runs super smoothly and it looks awesome. And the, all of the, the, like, the art assets were like, totally remade. And there's a new lighting system. The game looks so good.
Tim Gettys
Yeah. John Van Pelt says, I felt betrayed by the twist in Final Fantasy 7 Remake 2. Fair enough. Says you guys know Final Fantasy 7 machine abridged. It's hilarious. I do not.
Andy Cortez
I don't know.
Tim Gettys
That is Unaware of that one.
Andy Cortez
Never heard of it. But I'd expect you to know about it. I mean, I'm like YouTube video.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, definitely.
Andy Cortez
But no. Yeah.
Tim Gettys
I don't know it.
Andy Cortez
Bam.
Tim Gettys
Says voice acting Digimon got. Oh, voice acting Digimon got you. The game feels like anime.
Andy Cortez
I've heard nothing but good things about, about Digimon, but a lot of it is just the, the ip. I don't. I don't get stoked about Agumon and wargreymon. I just, like, that's just not.
Barrett
Don't. Don't get me started with wargreymon.
Andy Cortez
I mean, I love. I, you know, look, Tai from Digimon Goggles is the reason why I just wanted goggles and wanted to wear them all the time as a kid. Very, very formative for me. Just like I gotta wear these goggles and get. Spike my hair up like Ty. But Pokemon is Pokemon.
Blessing Adeoye
You know, that's the thing that's hard to communicate because, like, I feel like, yeah, I see the people being like, yo, play Digimon. Play Digimon. It has XYZ thing. It's gonna do all but like, the problem is that it's not Pokemon.
Andy Cortez
Yeah.
Blessing Adeoye
Like, that's the, that's the thing for
Barrett
me, these kids don't understand Guruman.
Tim Gettys
They don't get it.
Andy Cortez
They don't get it.
Tim Gettys
Andy Cortez and where Garuruman. Like, yeah, it just makes sense. Okay. I mean, everything you say about wargreymon, Andy War Graymond is the coolest thing in the world. And you would think so. But here's the thing. I get it. I'm not telling you to play this game. I'm actually telling you the game.
Andy Cortez
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
And what I'm saying, very different worlds.
Andy Cortez
All right? I. I know all these dudes. I know them.
Barrett
They're sick as hell.
Andy Cortez
I don't get stoked about them, though.
Barrett
I don't get stoked about them in this game. Especially again, I know people who are in the game who do some voice acting in the game. And that's cool.
Andy Cortez
Why are you doing a trump?
Barrett
But like,
Andy Cortez
I've heard voices are.
Barrett
It's not, it's not from the animated, to be clear.
Tim Gettys
Disagreeing with what you're saying. I don't think people are playing this game because it's Digimon. I think they're playing it because it's, because it's good.
Andy Cortez
It's like a solid jrpg. Yeah. Yeah.
Tim Gettys
And I think that that's the disconnect for me where I'm just like, there's a lot of good JRPGs out there and I ain't touching them.
Andy Cortez
Yeah. Yeah.
Blessing Adeoye
I played three hours of Digimon story time Stranger at PAX and thought it was really cool. I actually really, really appreciate what they set up in that game, but I played enough of it to know that it's not really what I'm looking for right now.
Andy Cortez
Yeah.
Tim Gettys
Bam also says, just real quick also,
Andy Cortez
who's gonna manage my Jurassic park in Evolution 3? You know, I'm on Isla. I'm on Isla Sorna right now, Tim. I just got ankle of sources after a big dig site visit in Africa. Big what? Dig site. Oh, okay. Massive dig site. Yeah. My, my park is looking glorious so far.
Tim Gettys
Bam says. Any news on physical edition of Dispatch? Not that I know of, but I, I'm sure they're going to team up with somebody, if not just do it themselves. Yeah.
Andy Cortez
Tell you what I bought yesterday, pre order that physical edition for nine souls. Barrett.
Tim Gettys
I said, that's Barrett.
Andy Cortez
Switch Fan, gamer.
Barrett
I was thinking about it.
Tim Gettys
Silk sounds coming soon. They said it was coming. Yeah, it was. Well, early 2026 is what they're saying. But like they said that I just keep, I'm waiting, I'm just waiting for them.
Andy Cortez
Hades 2 physical as well.
Tim Gettys
I know, yeah. Problem with the Hades 2 though, Andy.
Andy Cortez
The box.
Tim Gettys
Yeah.
Blessing Adeoye
Oh, switch.
Tim Gettys
Well, Hades 2 right now only switch on the console. Yeah. Right. So the physical. The only release in the Switch 2 edition which you could play.
Andy Cortez
But at least, at least the spinal look cool.
Tim Gettys
The spine's gonna look cool. But there's so many words.
Andy Cortez
So many words.
Tim Gettys
There's so many words.
Andy Cortez
So many words.
Tim Gettys
Decorose says having had the same experience with Andy with Metroid, has me waiting before being all in on Beyond. Yeah, yeah, I would definitely wait if, if you don't know you're going to like Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, I would entirely wait to see what other people say. And then all that stuff like I, I, this is more than likely not going to reinvent the wheel, so. But either in or you're not.
Andy Cortez
But after playing like Metroid, Dread didn't have those inconveniences where it's like you weren't if you weren't remembering to save all the time the way you were required to in old video games, it wasn't making you lose an hour and a half of stuff like you. It was auto saving. At least had that. And yeah, if I didn't have two, about two separate hour long progress losses, then I, I'd be way, way, way higher on it. Even though I'm already pretty high on Metroid prime remasters.
Tim Gettys
Yeah, I'm more saying like the like Metroid series, Metroid prime series, there's obviously a lot of similarities, but they are very different. And I think that there's a lot of the enhancements that have been made over time for Metroidvanias were in dread.
Andy Cortez
Right.
Tim Gettys
I think with prime, some of those quality of life things I think will be there. But I'm just saying like the gameplay and stuff, it's like it's gonna be Metroid prime and like the motorcycle stuff, if that doesn't look cool to you, it's not gonna get cooler, I don't think.
Blessing Adeoye
Do you not feel like this is the version of Nintendo that would reinvents. Not the right word, but I guess give us the most peak version of Metroid Prime. You don't think so?
Tim Gettys
It's not this. It's not this.
Blessing Adeoye
We talk about that with every other Nintendo game that's not a sports game, right. Of like, damn, we got tears, we got Odyssey, you know, we got fucking Kirby, the Forgotten Land and like every. The Mario parties, right. It feels like this is the generation of Nintendo giving us the best version or at least one of the best versions of each of their like core games.
Tim Gettys
You know, I would have.
Blessing Adeoye
Four is gonna.
Tim Gettys
I would have bet money that this one was gonna be it. But the moment that they showed this the week before the Switch 2 announcement and it was Metroid Prime 4 and they looked the way it did, which I love the way it looks. I can't wait for this game. I am so hyped. But it's like this is not that thing. This is not that at all. This is Metroid Prime 4.
Blessing Adeoye
Fair enough.
Tim Gettys
Zeke speak. Says Andy. For me, prime is a perfect practice of slowing down and enjoying the ride, get lost vibe to the music Pop. An edible and chill kind of game.
Andy Cortez
I think I. I think I would get too lost if I popped a gummy. Indulged if I. Yeah, gummy.
Tim Gettys
And it totally is. But I, I agree with you wholeheartedly as much as I love and think Metro Prime's A10. Like the backtracking for like, when you die, the game overs and like, the save stuff. Like, I hate that stuff. And like, we're just. We're past that now.
Andy Cortez
I wish those. I wish they included, like, those quality of life stuff or just at least auto save would have been awesome.
Tim Gettys
Yeah. Well, everyone, that's been the kind of funny gamescast. We have a lot more to talk about with video games. And guess what? We're gonna do that each and every day live here on Twitch TV. Slash kind of funny games and YouTube.com kind of funny games. Right now, we're about to do the kind of funny podcast in just a few short minutes and then a fun stream after that. But until next time, I love you all. Goodbye.
In this episode, the crew gathers for a spirited discussion about Pokemon Legends: Z-A (so far), weaving in impressions of other recently played games and the many ways the gaming landscape is evolving. Amid the fun, the cast reflects on what makes a modern Pokémon game compelling (or not), muses on Final Fantasy VII's lingering cultural weight, and touches on the joys and trials of Metroidvanias and roguelikes. The tone is casual, comedic, and laden with nostalgia, with healthy doses of criticism and praise for new releases. This is a "what we've been playing" episode with an emphasis on Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

This episode blends nostalgia, real criticism, and gaming excitement with Kinda Funny’s signature humor. The crew’s half-critical, half-affectionate takes on the latest Pokémon encapsulate the series’ dynamic: inventive, quirky, and occasionally stuck in its ways. If you’re a Pokémon diehard, lapsed fan, or just love hearing passionate/contrarian video game takes, this episode is loaded with informed opinions, playful bickering, and insightful breakdowns of the industry’s latest moves.
