And so we were going to do that, but then when he pitched that, he was like, hey, guys, it's a good idea. I'm putting it on the calendar. Greg and I were like, we've done this so many times. There is no way we can get a kind of funny games cast done where each one of us is giving 12 predictions that would last 10 days. Andy wouldn't do it. It'd be a whole thing. Okay.

So then we kind of dialed it back to, okay, let's just come up with one prediction for each month. And if we all kind of put a prediction in, we can, like, work together to come up with one list, collaborate. But then Roger, I went to go put some predictions in. Yeah, I had it all prepped because over the break, I had this idea for a video it's based off of. I don't know if you guys remember this. People would do this on Twitter for the last, like, decade, where it would be like, here's my list. In the Notes app, there would be a screenshot of, like, every month. Here's like, a wild prediction. It'd be like, october, the queen dies. You know what I mean? Like, some insane shit. So let me do my type of vibe with that. No, no one dies on my list. But there's some. There's some wild ones. Not yet. Not yet, but some wild ones there. So I'm excited. I'm excited to get through it. So that was. I had it all prepped, and then I was like, I didn't get to record the video or edit it or anything. So I was like, let me just put this out to the gamescast slack. So then when Greg made that document, I put it all in there and some. Some good stuff there.

I, I, it does seem like just one of those games that you not only need to get perfect, but it's kind of a Red Dead 2 situation where you know you're likely going to be limited to 30 frames per second and they want to make sure that that's as smooth of an experience as possible because the Series S was going to need a shitload of optimization. The Series X and the PS5 as well. The PS5 Pro might have a PS5 Pro version, or maybe not a version, but a just a setting that you need to get right on there as well. Yeah, I do think that that seems to make the most sense.

Because of course they own Skyrim and they own Bethesda. They don't want to do that comparison. That's the best way to market that game in my opinion. And also Shadows is just. They. That's not going to bomb. Right. Shadows is not going to bomb. It's going to do very well. Ubisoft is going to say hey, we Wanted way more copies. We're going to want 10 more cop million. 10 more, 10 million more copies than we actually have. That's just because they've, they've put all their eggs in one basket, right? Assassin's Creed Shadows is the game that they need to perform and I don't think it's going to perform in the level that they need it to. It's like Square Enix, right? Like every game that comes out sells millions of copies but not enough.

I want to first pull on Avowed because I think Assassin's Creed. I'm right there with you. But Avowed, you say you think it's going to underperform. You're thinking in Xbox's eyes critically where.

And I think that does come with a level of budget that you're putting into making that game with you know how like how many hours that game is meant to sustain, how many. The type of players that they want to bring into this, right. Like I think they are going for the Baldur's Gate crowd, they are going for the Dragon Age crowd, they are going for the Skyrim crowd. And I think with that, right, it being Obsidian, those level of expectations you have for it, I think if the plan is for this game to sell even just around a number, right. If they're planning for it to sell 4 million, I think it's going to sell 2 million. Like I'm with Roger there where I don't think the marketing is right on this one.

See, I just disagree. I think obviously, yeah, they're targeting the Skyrim crowd, they're targeting the Baldur's great crowd. But I don't think they're looking at this as this is a triple A RPG we're making that everyone like, I just don't. That's not the vibe I get. I throw in our worlds too, but I also don't think they look at outer worlds too, or outer worlds as that. I think this is the thing we argue all the time in this or the chat usually argues in this show. What is triple A? What isn't, what's double A and where, blah, blah. I think when you look at what Obsidian makes and the way they make it and how fast they make it, I think if you were to talk to Xbox about Obsidian, they are making double A games with a triple A pedigree would be the way I would put it. Right. I think. I think the nuts and bolts of what I've seen of about make you go, wow, that's gonna be such a great RPG. But I do think it's going to be a 20, 40 hour RPG. And then they came back, they came out a year later or so and said, hey, we scaled back what that what about was going to be. We wanted it to be this huge thing. We decided we're going to scale it back and have it not be this gigantic, expansive Skyrim like experience. I think I'm with Greg with their expectations in set. I think that they're expecting, you know, three to four to five millions.

I think they're looking at Obsidian and they're saying, pentiment outer worlds. Avowed make awesome fucking games. We're not looking for gigantic sales. I think this is the, hey, let's satisfy the core gamer who we want to keep subscribe to Game Pass with great experiences.

I mean, I mean this is a crazy month. We know this month we have Civ 7, we have Yak. You have Assassin's Creed Shadows, you have a vowed, you have Monster Hunter. Right. Like you have so many games that are coming out this month. It's like something's got to break here. And I don't. I see Civ 7 taking a huge part of that PC crowd spending their 70 bucks. I see you know, Monster Hunter taking a huge, huge chunk. And that's also part of my prediction. Monster Hunter is going to be the biggest in the franchise. Biggest launch. You know. Of course that's gonna be a 30 million exactly. It's gonna go insane. S and Yakuza are gonna do about what you expect from those franchises. I think SIV is gonna be really successful. Yakuza is going to be way less successful. But Crowd and Bloom and Rage. I think it's going to get lost in the shuffle, right. It's going to review. Well probably, hopefully. But you know, you're not going to. That's not going to save Donan.

Sadly. That's my thing. I think out of all those games that you mentioned to me, a vow does have at least shine to it. When you're talking about like what stands out, what's exciting.

Maybe it has a long shelf life, right? Maybe, maybe, maybe this is going to be the one that like the PC crowd really gets behind over the next, you know, year. Right. But I don't know. Like I'm just scared for about and I want that to be.

I do look at it in a different vein than Outer Worlds. Right. Like Outer Worlds I think has the personality, has the charm. Like you look at it and you go oh damn. Like it's space Fallout. Oh you know like spacers choice or whatever. Like there's like branding and an identity that Outer worlds had that Outer World had even in Its marketing that I think about still lacks even in like the previews of it.

Because I previewed it. Previewed it. I really liked it. I'm looking forward to it. But like, even still, like, I'm looking forward to it in the way that I just happen to not really be in the audiences for a lot of the other games coming out in February.

I'm not an Assassin's Creed person. I'm not a civ person. I'm not a monster hunter person. Right. Like, but a lot of people are. And I don't know, I. I am looking at a vowel right now as like, cool, I'm gonna play it, but I don't. I still don't know if it's a game I'm gonna evangelize about.

I think the bigger question is, does it underperform in terms of critical reception and gamer critical reception?

My bet is yes. So I'm making a bet on that.

Especially after Ghosts, right? Like you have that, you know, experience in Japan before with Samurai and everything, and you have this and people are going to compare it. It's going to be a one to one comparison. Right. And that game's also on PC. So. Yeah, I don't know. I don't think it's going to. Yeah, it goes. Yeah, it's everywhere. People have been playing it. So yeah, I don't know. I think it's gonna be great.

Is it the end of Ubisoft? And I don't.

Metroid Prime 4. Of course. Here's my weird one here, which I know we've talked about, we've had these conversations about. I am still very bullish on, I think Animal Crossing. This the highest selling physical game in Japanese history. Right. Like, it is. It is a game that literally, I know so many people in my life that only have switches that have only played Animal Crossing. That is it. To me, that is a bigger priority for them to put that on that switch at launch to get people to pay $70 for it, then maybe even a Mario Kart potentially. Like at least getting that audience of people in on the switch too. That is exciting. And also it makes sense timeline wise.

The game came out in 2020 and they stopped development of any DLC almost immediately. They had two packs and they were like, we're done. Bye. Like, they just stopped updating that game.

So you're telling me you think we're getting 3D, Mario, Animal Crossing and Metroid Prime 4 all at launch, launch window?

[Roger Py]

It could be the next six months or whatever. Like, we're not getting at launch launch, but within that six months. I. I see that as a thing.

I didn't put any Zelda, which you have. You can't count out Zelda. But also, all I can think of was like a Wind Waker remaster or something like that. I don't.

So mine, so mine is, is that every first party game that was available on Switch has a 4K upgrade for $7, but it's available and for free as part of a Nintendo Switch Online.

They have it so you can buy it piecemeal. Or if you have Nintendo Switch Online, you get the 4K upgrade. It's only in the first party games. Or maybe they have some third party, you know, connections there, but they're gonna just do that.

I'm with you on that to some extent, but I don't think they offer it piecemeal. I think that they really just want to push Nintendo Switch online. Switch online. That's how they get people in. But on top of that, I don't think that this is how it's going to work. I don't think that they can just be like, hey, it's all these games.

Well, they're going to work. They're going to work on your Switch too. They might even run a little bit better. They're just a, you know, a patch that will make it look even better. Like they put actual work into making these games look like 4K.

That's the part that I'm just not sure that that's going to happen. I mean, I feel like they're going to figure. I don't think they're just, oh, your existing games can now look better. I think that it will be like remaster, remaster, choice by choice, like certain packs for certain games that they really are like, hey, there's like a. It doesn't even need. It doesn't have to be a full game or whatever.

It could just be like choke on another ice cube.

I'm just gonna be like every first party game. I don't think so.

I mean, people are mad in the chat, but Nintendo does crazy shit.

How do we get more money out of these guys? But also like, you know, how do we maintain our Nintendo identity? Oh, let's, let's pay for more. You know, let's retain this value in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Cuz even though it's a 7 year old game, still, still slaps, you know.

I don't know if I've been more excited for anything in the last decade than I am for this Switch.

Like, I am legitimately so excited to have just better looking running versions of games that Nintendo knows what the they're doing with art direction. And that's why anytime you open a game, it's like, God, this looks incredible. And yeah, it doesn't run great, but man, opening up Mario Party over the break jamboree, it's like, dude, they're, they're so good with how their games are presented and just like look and appeal and that shit's. Gonna be, look. Oh man.

Are you thinking that this will actually solve that or is it gonna be you turn on Switch 2 and you're still like, ah, it still is not as good as it could have been.

No, because I'm, I, I know what this, I go into a Nintendo experience in ecosystem knowing your bars lower. I'm not, yeah, my bar is automatically lower. I mean the fact that, that, you know, if you, if you gave me a PC game that looked and ran like Pokemon, Scarlet and Violet, I would have said I'm not playing this. But when it's on Switch, I'm like, man, this is number nine on my top ten great experience or whatever. But yeah, definitely my bar is absolutely lower.

I mean my thing is like just turning it on in the menu. Being in 4k is going to go such a long way. Like just the, the entire experience of how just blurry things look, it just, it feels lesser then. And yeah, I feel like that alone is going to, yeah.

I'm of two minds where you know, Roger says $7, I'll pay more for that to get to Kingdom to like look and run.

I mean $10 makes sense.

To play this game? And it looks now what, like a PS4 title?

I mean it's gonna look, I mean PS4 Uncharted 4. Yeah. Way good. But I get what you're saying. With your Switch one you put in Tears of the Kingdom and it runs at 60fps and it's 4K. I'm like, I don't see that whatsoever. Like if they will give you that ability to play Tears of the kingdom at 60fps in 4K eventually is that going to be a remaster or is that just going to be an upgrade and they're trying to get you get money out of it. I see that as an easier way for them to get money. It's just being like, hey, here's the patches. Has 10$10 each or whatever.

Because I do think we're due for a, like, bigger Sonic thing the last couple of years. Well, this last year, we got Generations X Shadow Generations, and the year before, we got Sonic Superstars. But counterpoint to that, yeah. Sonic's 35th anniversary is the next year. That's when we get Frontiers 2 or.

This is where we get spicy and I'm very excited about this, these next two ones. But I'll start with, of course, July Ubisoft is fully sold. It is sold after the failure quote unquote failure of Assassin's Creed Shadow under delivering that game that they're going to sell off. It's probably going to be some type of, you know, deal with Tencent and the Guillermont family. They're going to figure it out. But I, yeah, it's going to sell to probably 10 cent and we're going to go into a different direction for Ubisoft. I would like it to be not 10 cent, you know, so we can actually probably revive some of these franchises and not do a bunch of free to play weird stuff. But it's probably going to be.

So the Splinter Cell reveal or whatever.

They're the biggest games Ubisoft's ever had. And it's like, oh, but they also have all this live service stuff. Well, well, X Defiant's gone and Outlaws didn't do great. And we don't expect for the last.

Five years, the last several titles being the. This is make or break for ub. We've been saying that for a while.

I think it's like, like the big games that have come out in the last couple years that just haven't performed for them.

Now, my thought process behind this is you. Phil Spencer has gone through so much shit with Xbox. Right. And Xbox is changing so much behind the scenes when it comes to. There's all those rumors of the civil war between Microsoft and Xbox trying to put everything on third party platforms, and clearly they've lost that. Everything's going third party now. I don't think that's the. That's the straw that's gonna break his back when it comes to this. I don't think that's the reason he's leaving. I think it's just a lot of him trying to go uphill and then it just keeps on falling backwards. And you're gonna have a few moments. I do not believe this is gonna be the year where Xbox magically fixes everything. There's not gonna be the dominoes. Yeah, exactly. There's not gonna be the year where, oh my God, Xbox is. There is no scandal. There's nothing crazy that happened. There's no failure. There's going to be at least be one of those this year. But the good thing about this is that he's going to end on a high note, right? He's going to end on a high note of doom. You're going to have Fable, you're going to have all these great games, and he's going to probably announce all those games a month or two before with the Xbox game showcase. So he's going to have a huge win on his resume. And also, he didn't end on. I thought he was going to leave. When redfall happened, like when all that was going down, I was like, oh, we might just. We might just be moving leadership or whatever. But he fought through it. We got. He has a huge resume. When it comes to buying up Bethesda and buying out Activision, this is the time to leave, right? This is the time to look at the future and be like, hey, I've set up the future of Xbox. I'm just gonna. I'm just gonna peace out because this is. This is too much.

That's my thought process, I think post acquisition, especially with the new stories we. We've had of the last year of, you know, Call of Duty and the CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella. Right? Like the comments of, yeah, we want to. Essentially saying we want to be third party, not verbatim, but like, basically that, right? Like, it seems like a lot of the changes and a lot of the big choices being made for Xbox have gone to A place where a lot of them are just like out of Phil Spencer's hands. Right. It's like it's more for Microsoft at this point than for Xbox. I think that might be more of the straw and maybe not maybe one of the major straws as far as Phil being like, yeah, I think my time here is done. Like he's been, he's been there forever.

It's been a decade of Phil Spencer. People leave at some point. Like, sounds like, like a weird thing of, oh man, I'm out of here. I think it's more so like, yeah, I think my time's come to a close type of thing. I could see it happening.

See, I don't, I don't see it happening. I want to be shocked. Obviously it's business is that it's blah, blah, blah, blah. But it's more the fact that I just don't think his work is done kind of thing. I think if Phil was going to leave Xbox right now, I think it would have to be from the top. It's time for you to go. It isn't working where blah blah blah. And there's all these, you know, we talk about it this, that the other. Are they. Are they or are they where they want to be X, Y and Z. They're still very much committed to this. You know, that's an Xbox. That's an Xbox that's next. They're going bigger with that than ever. Which makes me think that if you're still investing to that point with the merch and the ad campaign that just kicked off, it's something we've been asking about for a long time with how cloud gaming centric they've been. If they're actually pushing on that. I think Microsoft is still behind that them and that's why I don't see Phil leaving being like, I, I've got it in a good place. You don't. You know what I mean? The message still isn't there. You aren't. You aren't. Ubiquitous with games. We are still waiting for game pass and the. The fruits of the labor of collecting this infinity gauntlet of game studios to really pay off where it is. Banger after banger after banger, we're firing on Matt Booty wants something once a quarter, once a month. What it once a quarter right where he wanted a big AAA game like we aren't doing that yet and game. Maybe this is it avowed happens and then it is sorry.

Yeah, well, I don't think you would say mission accomplished, but I think he would be like, hey, like my time at Xbox is done. Right. And even put out. I had to Google it right now just to kind of verify. But back in March, him talking about, yeah, capitalism is the problem with the games industry. It's like, whoa, that's, that's kind of wild for you to say that, you know.

Yeah, well also, yeah, that's also a great point. Right. With all the layoffs that beginning of the year, right. And him just clearly being dejected of like, I, there's nothing I can do here, right. This is from Up Top. I have to close down these studios. I'm sure he was very much like, these are the studios. I like, I want to be, I want. Hi Fi. Rush too. I'm sure that that was the conversation there.

I, I do, I do think that his sort of mentality is always going to be at odds with what the directives are from Up Top. And sure, there is no other CEO that is logging hours in games like Phil Spencer is. The dude loves games. The dude comes from games. The dude cares about games and studios and the people working behind them. And unfortunately has to be the person that says, we're closing this down. You guys are getting laid off. All this stuff is getting laid off. And in the back of the, in the back of his mind, if I were to have, you know, if Roger Damas is also like a psychic or I guess you kind of are.

It is Microsoft's vision now of what Xbox wants and needs to be. And this is no more like, the ship that I was piloting. It is not going in the way that I want it to. That on top of what Andy's talking about as far as, like, and I have to do the layoffs. And also I had to get shit on by the entire Internet, like. Like, you know, like, whether it be the Xbox fans are never satisfied what.

September. This is TGS Times. Tokyo Game Show. Kingdom Hearts 4 revealed and a new Yakuza game. I know those are just falling out of Sega. I think it's not gonna. Maybe you see more Project Sentry eventually. That game, by the way, Project Century is going to be a y Yakuza game. It might not be actually called Yakuza Game, but it's going to be in the Lineage. We see of course Yakuza in it. But yeah, we're gonna see a new Yakuz game. It's gonna be led up by Kiryu, I'd assume. So I don't think we're gonna see Ichiban. He's not gonna be at least a main character or playable character. But yeah. Kingdom Hearts 4 revealed. Does that ring true to you, Tim?

Yes. So here's the thing. There's no D23 this year. It's every other year. So I would have said that that's where it was going to be. I do think that you're right. The Kingdom Hearts 4 will be at TGS this year. I do not know if that will be where it's revealed though. I think we're gonna see it sooner. I keep saying this, but I think the Kingdom Hearts force sooner than we think.

Yeah. I mean it's been at every. At some point Xbox and PlayStation. Like hey, maybe it's at a Nintendo thing. I doubt it. But like with the Switch 2, right. Like I can imagine Switch 2 when they put out their list of partners. Like and especially with Square being like, hey, we want to be way more multi platform going forward. Like I can, can. I can imagine that. But yeah, I think we're going to see Kingdom Hearts 4 before that. But I. I think you're right that we will see it at tgs.

Okay, sounds good. The next two pretty safe. Ish. And then we have a banger, of course, the end. End of the year, October. This is straight from Blessing, so I stole this one from you. Until Dawn 2 releases. October makes sense. We're gonna. I think we're gonna get that reveal at the May PlayStation showcase and comes out in October. I was thinking in this list like where Resident Evil would come into play. I mean of course they don't release in October historically, so. But yeah, talking about horror, Until Dawn 2 releases in October and we're going to get that movie, I'm assume this year.

They got an A on his little poll on Twitter that he does. That's a huge deal. That's usually like a circle, right? Like, the fact that every, like most gamers are like, even with this, a lot of haters. A lot of hater haters. And also the fact that there were rumors of Half Life 3 being there and it wasn't there and people were still like, this is fucking awesome. Like, this is an amazing showcase. He's riding that high and I don't think he wants to fucking get off that. That ship. I think he wants this to continue to go up and up and up. And I could see him looking at Valve and being like, please.

And Roger, I want this one. Everything that we said in our predictions episode for Game awards is still true. True. Steam OS is going to be a huge deal and they are investing heavily in it. Half Life 3 is happening. It's a matter of when. And I Do think that like. Yeah, that, that timing sounds good to me.

Do you think Game Awards 2025 is gonna have. Is it going to benefit from the 10 out of 10 we just had or is it going to have a hangover?

It's not that, but I do think it was like a play ball and PlayStation being like, you know what, we're going to play ball with you. Like we understand what this means and what it could mean for the industry. I think that I'd be so fascinated knowing what those actual conversations were. But I, I do think that there were things done out of the ordinary that was not the plan.

But I also wonder the negatives of the Game Awards, right? Because you have like so many games being announced there that things just inevitably we forgot about. Right. We have Team Eco's new game. We have Outer Worlds two which come. I kind of just forgot like a week later I was like, oh, that was announced. Like there's so many games that were there. There's so many bigger games that were announced. Witcher 4, intergalactic. Of course. Right. Like I, I wonder if the smaller teams or like the medium teams are like, I don't. Do I really want to be a part of this? Like, I don't know, like it doesn't. Is it really doing something for their brand? I don't know.

For the last year or so I've completely changed my tune when it comes to reacting to smaller presentations that maybe we may not have in the past, but when we do them, I just, my immediate thought is I'm glad that I watched this kind of mid trailer or whatever because there's so many games that I would have forgotten about otherwise and there's so many games that I didn't even know existed and now they're on my radar whether they're gigantic or small indie titles. So I don't. For me it's like even the games like, you know, from the Eco devs or whatever, all that stuff is still completely useful for them.
