This is from TT Games publisher Warner Brothers Games. It is coming on every single platform including Switch 2. $70 coming May 19 for early access May 22 for the standard edition launch. Greg.
A
Hi.
B
How much did you play and do you like it?
A
I played two solid hours of LEGO Batman the Dark Knight Legacy the Dark Knight down in la. I just put up an Instagram story about it. Or Instagram. You should go check it out, everybody. Instagram.com gameover Greggy because they did it in a volume so it was like our set obviously, but like way, way, way, way, way bigger. Andy. And they had the fucking screen look like you were. They made it look like you're in the Batcave.
C
Cool.
A
Behind you. They had Batmobiles. They had the 89 Batmobile. They had the Batman Robin Batmobile. They had Batmobile made out of Legos.
C
They had bat dung everywhere.
A
And there were a lot of bat dung. Yeah, there's Batman cookies. I had some of those. Don't worry about it. Yeah, you know what I mean?
C
That was the dung.
A
Good event. Eventually. Kevin, if you could throw it up. Instagram.com gameover Great show to him. It's good stuff. But don't do it right now because you're doing a great job. We're talking about the game and not so much that played two solid hours of LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight. And Tim, I would like to start somewhere that I don't usually start. I'd like to apologize.
C
Yeah.
A
As you know, usually not my gnome diplomas, they say, you know what I mean? Usually I commit, then get out and make a lot of money, make a lot of fucking. You know, I make a job for you. But then Tim gives me a hard time, says I should have. You know what?
C
I don't know where. Where we're going. I don't know where we're at.
A
I'm making references to the fact that usually my shenanigans are for the best.
C
Gotcha. Okay.
B
Got it.
A
I'm making a reference to, of course, Naked Jacob, who is going to be
B
a fan of our.
C
Right.
A
I digress. I want to apologize both to this game and to the audience since LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight got announced. Okay. Lego Batman. Fuck, yeah. Everybody knows I love LEGO games. I've reviewed a bunch of LEGO games. I've been in a bunch of LEGO games. I was like, hell, yeah. TT Games. Back to it. Then when we saw beyond, just the trailer beyond, and we saw them reliving the movie moments, I was a bit crestfallen where I was like, oh, is this gonna be like the Skywalker one that Ben plays right now that a lot of people loved? And I have problems with? I think it's overly cluttered. I think, again, we're just rehashing the movies, which we've done before in LEGO Star Wars. And so to see LEGO Batman come in this way, it was like, oh, man. Like, I've been such a fan of LEGO Batman, LEGO Batman Beyond Gotham. You know, the way they've evolved all the LEGO games to see them start roping back in the movie stuff, I immediately was like. Like, I don't need that necessarily. And then they show the clips, and the vo, of course, isn't from the movies. It's a new person. I'm like, I don't know, man. I don't know about it. And so I think I really let that cloud what the game is. Yes.
B
Tim, have we got LEGO Batman games that cover the Dark Knight trilogy?
A
I don't think so. I think we've had references before. The LEGO Batman games before have also been away from the movies. So this is me complaining about going back to what I would call the Star wars formula of what it used to be, the Indiana Jones formula of Lego for TT Games.
C
Right?
A
So this isn't so much an indictment of we've done this before as Batman just as much as I've done this before. And I like it better when TT Games gets to tell their own story. When we went in there, we sat down, Jonathan Smith from TT Games went up there and gave his presentation. And the first thing he's talked about is what they say in the Steam description. But we all know how marketing words are, but that this is a definitive Batman story, that this isn't. And this is where, you know, Jonathan really gets cooking. This isn't them retelling the movies. This is them taking everything from Batman's storied history and putting it into their own TT Games lens and giving you a game built around that. And this game fucking slaps. This game is going to be. I think. I'm not. I mean, it's definitely the best Batman game we've had since the Arkham Games, period. And I think so much of that is. Is that it's Lego Arkham, like, jumping in. And they were like, all right, cool. Like, when they're giving the presentation, they're talking about the stuff we're not going to see, which, of course, is, you know, Bruce's parents get murdered. Spoilers don't tell Gia. Then it's going to be, you know, him, the League of the Assassins, Ra's al Ghul, yada, yada, yada. They dropped us in. It was like, all right, cool. You're already Batman and you're going off on this mission at the Iceberg Lounge. Gordon's there with you. And so it was very much like, cool. You're seeing the movie influences. Kev, you want to toss up the first one of Iceberg Lounge from the. Again, shout out to Warner Brothers. They have nothing to hide. They're like, record two hours of footage. Just show no more than an hour of it and break it.
B
I'm like, I'm a little confused because you're saying this is a definitive story, but so it seems like it's telling its own story. But, like, a lot of what we're seeing are direct movie scenes. You're kind of tying them together as if it's one thing.
A
What it's doing is. I would just say it's playing on all the nostalgia fiddles that you would have for all the movies you've seen before. I don't think there's anything I've seen in the game that goes and is directly. Hey, here it is. Scene by scene, frame by frame, line by line, right? It is instead Batman and Gordon showing up at the Iceberg Lounge, knocking on this door, right. Getting in, arguing with the guys. We've seen this obviously from the Batman, right. But there's way more interaction, obviously. There's way more jokes. And this builds to them getting up to Carmine Falcone as he's confronted by Red Hood and the Joker, you know, pre Joker version of the Red Hood, Right. So it's taking, like touchstones, you know, from all of those movies, putting them in here and then doing something entirely different. Wow. No, it wasn't bad. Don't worry about coffee just a bit. We don't need to stop and worry.
C
Oh, those twins. I was the guy from the leftovers. I remember that.
A
Oh, really?
C
Yeah.
A
I didn't know that. I think a better version, if we could, is. Can we jump over to Robin? Mission starts. Kevin. This is the 5151 mark on here. I call this in on my thing. Their own story again, right. The idea that we've seen before is that, of course, you're playing through certain things in the movie. We've seen that you're wearing the Batman Forever costume. We've seen yada, yada yada. When you jump into this and go to see Haley Circus, obviously, we know what's going to happen, right? Joker, I'm sorry, 2Face is going to interrupt and Robin's going to be created. Right. But immediately off the rip, it's its own deal because Batman and Catwoman have come here on their own and they're going on a date as Bruce and Selena. And so immediately you're into, okay, cool. This is how we're establishing Bruce Wayne. There's already signed. The Gotham News is already reporting that is the most eligible bachelor in Gotham. Already gone is Selina Kyle here. So there's all these jokes now that of them being Batman and Catwoman while they're out there watching this. We have, of course, the intersection here of one and only Poison Ivy. Right. Pamela Isley coming in and doing a very similar version of Batman and Robin. Right. But again, we're mashing up the timelines where this would technically be a Batman Forever scene, even though Catwoman wasn't in Batman Forever, to then have. So this is what they're doing, Tim, where it is like, okay, you're. You might. You might do exactly what I did and glance at the trailers and Go. Okay, we're getting the movie I've seen before.
C
Yeah, we're getting the greatest hits. But really, it's all. Let's stitch all of these awesome moments together.
A
It's to make our own story. It's what I mean, it's one of those things of, I think every time you jump into a great comic book nowadays, right? And that is the. The new origin or whatever the heck it is, and it's giving you those little twangs, little pangs. Here you go. This is what we're going to go off of and give you a reference to. To make you go into it. They're telling their own Batman story. This is definitively their own universe that they are trying to cram every piece of Batman into it. So, like, you start up here and it's like, yeah, we all remember these drum dudes. You know what I mean? But here we are putting him into the Flying Grayson Circus and having all this different stuff. And I. Again, to the level of. And I. This sounds so insulting. Like, I forgot who TT Games was. But to the level of care and love and reference they're putting into it. I believe it's this scene, but it might be later on. Where have you all heard the amazing story and retelling of when Jim Carrey met Tommy Lee Jones on set for Batman Forever the first time they ever met.
C
So he hated him.
A
I'm going to get the quote wrong, but it was that, yeah, Jim Carrey walked over and was like, tommy Lee Jones, I'm excited to work you and Tommy Lee Jones, sight unseen, first time he ever met. This motherfucker is just like, I want you to know that I don't respect you and I don't sanction your buffoonery. And he was like, dead serious. He's like, I fucking don't like you. I've seen you and I don't like you. And so at some point, I think it's the ringmaster there says just blah, blah, blah, and sanction the buffoonery. Like, it's like they have that level of like, hey, how much do you know about Batman? DC Comics, whatever you want to be, that we're going to dive in and give you that level of this. And again, instantaneously. And I know we're watching without sound and doing all these different things instantaneously. My concerns about the story were gone. And I was way more like, oh, I can't wait to get into this, because it is, I think a time capsule is what I want to jump to. But it's really a Batman museum because they're putting so much amazing stuff in here. Kevin, let me jump around a little bit for you. All right? If you could jump over to. And this is. We'll eventually talk about what it's like to play the game, everybody. But if we can just nerd out a second about how well they're doing this. Can you jump to what I call pause for Kevin Conroy, 45, 33. I don't know if this goes beyond just a reference in the game, but as you're shooting around, you know, because you're going to open world this, you know, just like Arkham, and run around, you're going to get. Eventually. Kevat. Yeah, the pause right there. Up there. Oh, pause right there. You see a billboard for After Hours with Conroy, the voice of Gotham City. And again, it's that kind of thing. If you wanted to jump over to pause for Miller and more. 49 minutes, 23 seconds. There's a big thing there for Miller and Mora Building. Of course, we're talking about, you know, Dark Knight, right? We're talking about Alan Moore, we're talking about Frank Miller. We're talking about, you know, the Dark Knight returns. Like, here's this reference on a building that's just going to be there for you. This isn't the building. But I give you the wrong time code, Kev. Doesn't matter. You'll get there. Maybe 4923 is what I'm looking for. There it is. Boom. See, they're doing these things that are calling these things out that if you are watching for it, it's going to be there, and it's going to fucking be like, okay, cool, you're getting it.
B
You're.
A
You understand what this is on a different kind of level, let alone then they have so much other stuff. And, like, we. I know, first off, Paul, if you can go one second back, Kev, like, just to look even at this screen here with all the icons there, when you go forward and get to that one screen about all the collectibles in the area you're in, like, this game is about to have me by the fucking throat. Because, again, it is such a beautiful homage to what Batman is and Gotham City and DC Comics, let alone the fact that it is littered with collectibles. And not just. I mean, I've played a lot of Batman or Lego games, and I've platinumed a lot of Lego games. And there always comes that point in the back half where I'm like, I want to fucking die. I'm just getting red bricks or answering whatever. Like early on here, it seems like they've put in so many different kind of collectibles that I'm feeling it more in terms of what I should be doing.
B
In terms of the puzzles, this seems very Spider Man. Insomniac Spider man, yeah. The numbers seem like the right amount of each thing that you're trying to get.
A
And that's, you know, it's a fascinating one for me. As I said, Ben plays LEGO Star wars right now. Kevin, you just let it play wherever you want, jump around as you see fit. Ben plays a lot of LEGO Star wars right now. And as I've said, I'm not the biggest LEGO Star Wars. I think it's the Skywalker Saga. Right. Is the official name of the latest one. I think it's too convoluted. There's too much going on. I don't like the split screen couch co op. It gets annoying for me. So I let him play and I help him out when I need to. Right. This one is going to. If it has me by the throat, like, this is going to be Ben's game of the year. Because it is again, go through and play as Batman. Sure. But then it is what he loves about Spider Man. Two of random crimes.
B
Yeah.
A
Go around Gotham and just do random crimes. There's muggings, there's carjackings, there's races, there's all this stuff. And that's. As you're on your way to your next thing and to bring it to gameplay a bit, I would tell you, and this is somebody who's played a lot of Batman games. This would be the first Batman game I would probably just recommend to everybody. And I don't mean like all ages, I mean all versions of gamer. Like in terms of if you like Batman as just a story, cool. If you like Legos, just a thing, cool. If you do want to have the easiest co op with your kid, cool. The one of the things they drove home that I hadn't even thought about is that this is the first LEGO game adding in difficulties. They're doing three difficulties. Classic. Which is, you know, the easiest. Kids, it's a LEGO game. Don't worry about it.
C
That's surprising to me.
A
Cape Crusade. Well, let me get there because it's going to make a lot of sense in one second. Cape Crusader, which is more of the normal whatever. And then Dark Knight, which is going to be hard. Right. I think the reason they did this is again, there was a Little company, a lot of people forgot about them. Called Rocksteady and they used to make Batman games people loved. And then for some reason they wanted to go make a Suicide Squad game and everybody turned on them and it was terrible. But this game, again, combat wise and just let it play. Here, Kev is Lego Arkham. I have never enjoyed the hand to hand combat in any Lego game because it's sloppy, it's easy, it's whatever, right? But what they're doing here is giving you, literally, it plays exactly like Arkham. It is going to be pound, pound, pound, pound, pound. Then you'll see the thing go off for the reversal. Do it. You'll hit shield guys, flip over their back, punch them, do this. You have a number of gadgets you can use and get mixed into the gameplay that way. But I think more importantly, as somebody who, you know, Andy, I know you did Arkham Asylum. I forget if you've moved on to Arkham City yet.
C
Not yet, no.
A
Somebody who played so much Arkham City, and I know so many of us have as well, right. It is the idea that as soon as I was in the first off, they stopped me. My demo opens and it was literally like, go here to do the thing. And I was like, you know, grappling hook up there. You hold X, shoot off with the extra power glide. I'm like, damn. Like, it is just fucking Arkham. And they were like, no, you got it. You can. They're like, we assure you there's open world time at the end. You got to stay on task right now. And it was like, damn. Like, they have really, really, really gone in there and taken what you love about Arkham. And I really think for me, personally, taking what you love about Lego games, both the humor and then the way of making something cute of like, how are we going to do this? How are, you know, what are we going to switch up here? We're close to one here. If you could jump to, I guess teamwork 12:30, Kevin, you're almost there on your own. But Bats and Gordon is what I put here. It is that idea of like, you know, these games are local couch co op there, but you can play it solo. Right? But so it is the idea here of like trying to line this up to then switch to the other character to have Gordon come in and pick this up. If you let this play, eventually we get to another part of a different puzzle where, you know, we're using Gordon's specialized gadget. You see it down there in the right. Which shooting out some kind of putty. I don't know if this is story based or whatever, but imagine some kind of gum. He's just shooting up to gum up. Works and do all these different things.
C
Like it's the purple goop from Suicide Squad. The shooter.
A
Oh, great, there it is. Yeah, you're jumping back and forth, right? And really feeling like both characters matter eventually if, you know, if you wanted to jump Kevin to 4055. And gold stars for Kevin, by the way. Oh, there you go. Yeah, right there. He's getting there. Do it. But if you jump to 40, 55. This is a Catwoman puzzle where Batman, Selina show up at a place and he's like. She's like, I gotta get something for my friend. And he's like, we're not breaking in, right? And they're clearly breaking. She's like. But here she uses her power of, you know, getting the little cat out to go through here to get, to open up the wall to get the book to put on the ledge to open. It's like again, that cutesy puzzle they're doing. And I saw somebody earlier on. Sorry. Cause I've just been ranting. Talk about Greg. Please tell me that there's Riddler trophies and chant. There's all that stuff out. There's. There's the Riddler is out there. Clue Master is out there. And then you have stuff like this where you have to all work together with your powers and then come into something fun like this. You know what I mean? Of like, all right, let's line up the shadows to open a gate to do the thing. Like so far littered with that. And again it's like, damn, they crushed this. And then to just jump to something else while we're here. The fidelity. I don't know if the footage is doing it well, but like there was a part today when I was going through the footage and I looked down to make a note and I came up and it was just Batman and Robin standing with their backs there. And the way their cape looks like the cloth that are on Ben's Legos that I play with all the time with him just crushing it. It's such a nice. For me personally return to form for TT games when I didn't really care for Star Wars.
B
What's up with the suits?
A
What's up with the suits, Tim? They said, of course, more than 100 different outfits for the playable characters and all that stuff. Kevin, if you want to jump to 1:41:22, this is where we're into Batsuits, we're into cat suits, we're into Robin suits. We're into the Skill Tree again. Like, it's one of those games that I've always liked, Lego games. I feel like there's more going on here than ever. The usual collectible, sure, but then also the upgrades, but then also this. But then also the random crimes. But then, like they are packed to the gills with suits.
B
That is awesome.
A
You like what you're seeing here?
B
We saw the new one from the new comics. Absolutely, yes.
A
Absolute Batman. Thank you so much. Like, there's so Lego Batman, the old video game, sonar suit, retro video game.
B
Oh, that's awesome.
A
There's so many ones that are down there that are unlocked. The way you earn them is Batman. That's the bat. Oh, yeah, I'm sorry, I got me.
C
You got.
A
Yeah, you got me with that one. Because, you know, George Clooney, infamously, is like Batman, Robin. I just started playing him gay. Like, what the fuck does that mean, George? But you go down here and you see, like, some of these are going to be story based. Some of them are the Wayne Tech chips. You'll find some of them are activity. Like there's a bunch of different currencies and things in game for you to go get. Of course there's Batman movie Batman, you like that. But you let it play a little bit, Kev. I'll go. I know. Into the skill tree here. And I do want to show off the Gordons. I do want to show off the Catwoman's. I do want to show off the Robins. Like, I'm super impressed with what's here because again, I judged it too harshly off that trailer where I was like, oh, this seems like a step backward from where we've been when really I think it's a big leap forward in terms of treating this like a. I'm not trying to insult the Lego games that I've loved and Platinum the shit out of and started before me. Polka Dot Man, Howard the Duck, Aldrich Killian. I'm sorry, why wasn't I in this one? It's a great question. TT Games.
B
I don't know.
A
No, let it go. Please, Kev, please let it go. Because I want to get to more of the suits and stuff, but I feel like this is an elevation of the formula and the maturity to a degree. Like, I feel like Ben could easily sit here on the easiest difficulty and just pound the shit out of everything and be fine. Fine, right? But for me to sit there with him and try to give him more and try to, you know, go deeper and deeper and deeper into all of this. I really think there's a lot here. And I think, again, what's such a smart choice for them, awesome is giving us all of this, hey, look at all these movie moments. Hey, look at all these suits. Look at all this stuff, which I think can almost look overwhelming. But in reality, what I think it's going to let you do is what do you want your Batman experience to be, Right? Kevin, if you could jump to 50,
C
35, they gave the little legs one. That's key.
A
As soon as I got the chance, actually, you go 49, 40 if you want to, and I'll roll right into it. As soon as I got. And that's, yeah, yeah, 4940. As soon as I got the chance, right? I was like, oh, I want to fuck around the different Batmobiles. I want to do this stuff. So I, of course, jump in. I'm like, where is it? Where is it?
C
Where?
A
Boom. 89 Batman, right? Like, I want to be 89 Batman. I love the 89 Batmobile. I'm sorry, you want to.
B
Just real quick, I'll just say, like, I'm very impress with this. Because we've had superhero games. We've had Lego superhero games for so long, so you kind of expect them to have everything in the kitchen. Kitchen sink. Yeah, I really like the presentation of this. It's like, I feel like they made the right calls of, like, all the suits and Batmobiles and everything we'd expect. Yeah, they're here in a way that, like, is visually pleasing to me and not overwhelming.
A
Let me give this to you, too. And I think this is another, again, tip of the hat for what they're building here. Now it's all there, and it's at the tip of your fingers. It's not. Yeah, all the Batmobiles are here. Go back to the Batcave. Load in there. Switch what you want. It is on the fly. It's a fucking LEGO game. Do you want to switch Batmobiles on the fly? Jump in and switch Batmobiles on the fly, right? And so, like, Yeah, I. So 5035 is probably about to roll up of just the Lego Batmobile 89 that I fucking love. Like, here it is, right? And then you just hit up on the D pad to spawn it. I think I'm confused there, because I'm just starting to play. But up on the D pad, the car spawns. You're off to the Races and you can just go with it and good, let's go. Let's drive, right? It feels like you want. It's just like I said, Arkham Knight. Shoot yourself out, you know, glide right away, shoot your grappling hook right away, go off on it, whatever. But you can switch it up. Kevin, can you jump to 1:5040? 1 hour50.40. Of course, I say all this about I'm going to be the 89 Batmobile, and I am. Look at how sick this fucking looks, right? But when you jump over here, it was the other one of like, well, what about my other favorite Batmobile, right? The Animated Series. So just drop that in, right, and be ready to go there. And I look at the, look at the way, like, the engine things rumble. I'm not a car guy, but the gray things on the hood are, like, moving as they go or whatever. It's like, damn. And it's like, back to my point. I really do feel like, as somebody who played so many Rocksteady games and Lego games, going in and customizing and using that suit is always a big deal of what you want to be. But I feel like in the Rocksteady games, obviously, sometimes it broke it where it's ridiculous that you're in this outfit, having this conversation or whatever it is. Whereas here, I think it's going to be that I'm going to be 89 Batman for a long, long time. And then, okay, Now I'll be 66 Batman for a little bit and jump around and do that. And again you end these, you know, something. They're not hard to unlock. I'd unlocked 66 Batman at the end of one of it. 3130 Kevin. It's just a screenshot of me getting them at the end of the level. Your reward for finishing it. That's cool. I like that. And then, yeah, there is the, you know, all the different upgrades you're getting, the purchases. You know, there are the stor here and the missions here. They're just crushing it.
B
Guys, is there a serious story here or is it all just jokes and ref.
A
All just jokes. There's no real, there's no real I. There is a story here. Is it a serious story? No, I, I, I, you know, I'm, I was, I dropped in. I think I started chapter three. So it's like, not. I think the best way to really show, to tell you about this is like, I don't time code it. You'll find it yourself. But whatever, let's like you're playing that Haley Circus bit, right? And you got Two Face who's very much the Tommy Lee Jones Two Face and the bomb or whatever. Batman and Robin defused the bomb and Two Face falls and his parents aren't dead. You know, Dick's parents aren't dead. And I'm like, oh, that's interesting. What are they going to do here? And so Dick Grayson and Batman are having a conversation and he grabs his Batarang. Talk. Dick Grayson grabs the Batarang. We're talking about the. And he throws it and ding ding ding, go. And it knocks the parents down and they hit the ground. They don't die. They're like, oh. And he's like, I guess I should get out of here or whatever. It's like that's like the level of story. No, you're not going to get this crazy Batman tale. I don't think that like pushes what it is, but I think it's going to be a love letter to everything we love about Batman.
C
Tim, I was going to say, I would also like to know. I would also like to know if Rock and Robin would ever make a return for this future games cast.
A
I love that.
B

A
I think both of us are very
B
surprised at how high you seem on this game, which is awesome. Is there anything you didn't love as much?
A
Load time seemed a bit longer in the tooth than I would have liked. It's a little hard because I was also watching back my footage and I was like why is oh somebody and I noticed it said continue hit X. I'm like oh somebody's talking to me. You know, like somebody comes over to say hey or whatever. You're in the middle of A demo. But I remember even there I was like, okay, but it's not like it's like, like loading into the next chapter. So it was loading a lot. It wasn't like I was loading between scenes, if that makes sense. So I can't hate on it or whatever. And I'll see what the final build is. And yada, yada, yada, There was that to it. I want to sit with the voices a bit more, you know what I mean? Where I think this is a Batman that isn't. Is in the gravel. You know what I mean? And that's not good. That's not bad or anything like that. But it is or isn't. It isn't. So it's a new Batman voice to get used to or whatever.
C
Do we know who the voice actors are?
A
We do. I don't have enough front of me, though. Okay. But other than that, not really. If anything, I'm bummed out that it's not now this, you know what I mean? This is one of those. I left the preview event. I was like, I really want to play that. And I haven't really stopped thinking about it. And then even looking at footage here, you're like, damn. Because again, I, I. You know, when you do a preview, everybody, you don't want to spoil things for people, right? You. You want to show things, talk about things, whatever. Again, Warner Brothers and TT were like, like, take the footage and go. You know what I mean? Do it. I want to make. I want to show you something right now that I think again is this is what they let us play for two hours. And at their end, they're like, before you're done, though, even if you quit early, you got to go start this mission. We got to show you this thing. Okay? I was like, okay, yeah, whatever you want to. Kevin, can we see that last call out. What a finish at 15540. But I need sound up for it.
B
We're voices Shy Matheson.
A
Okay. Has Shy done anything before?
B
A ton of things, but nothing that I'm wrecking.
A
I mean, Shy. I want to know more about you. Come to kind of funny. I want to talk to you about that. Wait, sorry. I just want to double check. 15540. Yeah, that last one there. What a finish. Yep. Thank you so much. And we need sound up for this one. Because I was like, okay, what do you want me to. Why, what's the thing here? And so if this is the final surprise they wanted to give us in the preview, I can't wait for the surprises we'll see later. Kevin, take it away. In audio listeners. You'll get it
C
load screen, but you
A
should come watch it. Audio listeners. That was fast. Let's see. I can't complain too much. Maybe I'm wrong.
B
Oh, dude.
C
Oh, yeah. I saw this on Social.
B
Wait, this is very cool, right?
C
Yeah.
A
So for audio listeners, it's the animated series intro recreated in the game. And again, they get it. This is the love and care that's being put into this. Where you go, damn, how fun it
C
must have been in Riccard. Need that sky a bit more red.
B
I know.
C
Awesome. Yeah, very cool.
A
Just fantastic stuff here. I'm so, so impressed with what they're working on, what they're making. Obviously getting a background stoke. Yeah.
C
I. What I wanted to mention, visually, for any of the audio listeners out there, you know, I'm like a big stickler for visuals and I feel like if the LEGO game isn't Lego Builders Journey or the more recent one Voyagers, where it's like, hey, these are Legos with the full ray tracing possible. Like, man, this is the best the LEGO game can ever look. And everything compared to that. Ever since playing Builder's Journey always looked really bad to me. And I think it. In my opinion, Gotham and Legos are like, the best pairing possible because everything is dark, everything is really neatly lit and things like that. And I think maybe if you don't have the best lighting and tech with ray tracing and path tracing, whatever, but you're putting your Legos in broad daylight. It doesn't look good. It looks flat. It looks, like, unshaded. I'm thinking about Lego Party, like a game that we all love, and it looks, you know, not awesome. Yeah, this looks fantastic. I think the.
A
The.
C
A lot of that has to do with the darker tone of the darker vibe of what Gotham is bringing. And there's always, you know, little point lights here and there. And I think the way that they're playing with color is also just so perfect and very 90s Batman.
A
I.
C
This is like a match made in heaven.
A
I think Club Constantine up there, another nice little reference, obviously, to the greater DC universe. There's all sorts of stuff like that packed in here. There's one. I wrote it down. It's like instead of Arkham Asylum, it's Ska Come Asylum, and it's a ska club on the other side of the door or whatever, like that kind of thing. They're being goofy.
B
What'd you play on?
A
I played on PC. These were all running on PC. Builds and stuff like that. Another one, of course, is you look up there in the upper right corner, you see the stud counter going up. You see it counting down as well. Of course, there's a combo meter. The more you're smashing, the more you're multiplying the studs you're collecting. You are then taking those out and using them to purchase other things. Kevin, this is probably a good transition. If you could go bat back, back to bat mite at 46, 49, of course. Bat mite. An interdimensional imp in the, you know, the vein of Mr. Mixel.
C
I remember you mentioning.
A
He has.
B
Mr. What was it?
A
Say it again, Mr. Mixelpick. You have a store here, of course, where you can go in and yes, there are costumes to buy. But as we wander around the store, you're going to see there are a lot of weird things. There's chairs, there's cabinets, there's over here a cauldron. There's all these different things. That's because on top of everything we've just talked about, on top of a story based chapter by chapter, you're going through and doing it. On top of an open world loaded up with crimes, there is in fact a bat cave that you get to customize to your heart's content.
C
So cool.
A
So if you want to jump from here, Kevin, to one hour and 35 minutes in, this is you inside of the Batcave. There's mini kits hidden around in it. So if you just wanted to explore, I'm sure there's stuff to smash to get more bits for it and stuff like. Or studs for it. But more importantly, for what we're seeing here, this is where you come in. And then there are different areas that you can then go into. Spend the currency. I don't think it's studs there to flatten them, then build them out. It looked like, for the most part it was all cosmetic. Like I don't think I was building it out and getting this new buffer, that new thing or whatever to that extent. But it is a thing. You can run around, put all your stuff down. As we're free roaming, I'm immediately gonna see these mini kits. I gotta go for them, you know how I am or whatever. But yeah, Kevin, if you want to jump from here, just a little bit forward to base building at 1, 40, 30, this is where I'm flattening a space and I'm going through and doing the dang thing to get it in there, to start putting down an arc. I Think I put an arcade cabinet here and it's an arcade cabinet that. That Batman just moves around that you don't go into the game to play or whatever. But again, lots going on there, right? And it's like, as somebody who doesn't base build in any of the games he loves, it's like, okay, cute. If there's a reason to do it, and I'm sure there will be for the platinum, I'll do it to that degree. But otherwise, it's just, you know, another reason to go in there and make your own fun in this and what you want out of it kind of thing.
C
Can you tell me anything about combat depth? Is there. How. How deep can you get with combos? Are you adding on moves to the end of moves as you upgrade the tree?
A
I didn't get a chance to experiment much with it. It was, for this point, the very basic Batman Arkham stuff where I was punch, punch, punch, reverse drop, jump over the back. There are those skill trees we've seen before. I did not drill into them to look into. Okay, well, am I adding this? Am I adding that? Obviously you have your Batarang. You see it down there as well. You have your different gadgets. You'll be getting as you go. So I'd imagine they know that that's there and they're going to tweak with that. But I don't have a definitive answer for you on that one, sadly.
C
Gotcha. Are there any, you know, charge this melee move to do this?
A
I didn't see it, but I don't. That doesn't mean it's not there. You know what I mean? I was way more dazzled by the D.C. love and the Batman sheen on whole thing than I was that. Yeah, exactly. And I think, you know, for me especially, I think on the way down and the way back, this is one of those days where I was playing replacement, sort of jump back in and be like, okay, cool. It's just the same thing there. I think I wasn't looking into how deep it's going to get. Hours. But like, I. As we've seen that tree before and if we want to jump to the skill tree, I haven't marked somewhere in there, Kevin. Or maybe you're just there. You might have just been there. Skill tree 4940. We could look and see if there's something in there to that degree as I click around a little bit at the 4940 mark. But yeah, you know, it's. I don't expect it Necessarily to be the craziest thing in the world. But let's see what we got over here when we go. After I look at my Batmobiles again because they're so goddamn good looking, you know. Come on. And the way that they, so there's combat over there. Do it does Greg's fat finger. Yeah, I'm over there. So hold on. Yeah. If you could pause in some of the combats I was on over there, the red tree right before this, if you could get it back a few frames because those are exploration ones. You do see mixing in stuff. More punches.
C
Okay. And you see the locked area down below.
A
Yeah, yeah. So it's going to keep going, expanding. You go. Yeah, yeah. There's stuff to be done in there for sure. For sure.
B
Andy, are you being sweat? Is this getting you going?
C
I am, I've never been a, you know, I've generally never been a Lego type of gamer. I think the concept of them, to me, like, while always cute, while always like witty and they're gonna provide, you know, some smiles here, here and there for you. It's, they've, I've never really felt incentivized to hop into this style of game. And that's coming from somebody who would write into the LEGO magazine in the 90s. Wow. I, I, I think this is really cool. I love the, the love and care it feels like when we talk about this is a love letter to this franchise. Like, yeah, very much feels like, you know, this is made by people who give a shit about Batman. It seems super cute, super fun. I want to see exactly how the world evolves. I want to see all of the little nods to all the different franchises and how do they, you know, wrap it all together. I think I'm really curious to see exactly how they try to pull that off. Off.
A
Yeah. So as you saw there, there's takedowns, there's directional throw. So yeah, there's more to do here as you get going.
C
Gotcha. Very cool.
A
Stealth takedowns are a return. Yeah. There you can go from the rafters and you know, R1 down on people.
C
I think everybody will get mad at me if I played this before Arkham
A
City, but you know what I mean.
B
Were there boss fights?
A
There were. Great question. Good job there, Timothy. Big brain on Tim. Kevin, if you want to jump to the Poison ivy level at 11630 and just scrub a bit ahead, you'll see. Yeah, Poison Ivy. Here we are. Poison ivv. Batman and Robin. You know, you wail on her a bit and Then she of course gets into a giant plant. You have to wail on the giant plant and do that kind of thing. They were enjoyable. You know, it wasn't. Yeah, I wasn't, you know, pushed to the max by any stretch of imagination, but I wasn't bored either. I enjoyed what I was doing here. It was a nice change of pace because this was the only boss fight I had. And we all know obviously Arkham very well known for its.
C
She's just taking that battery that day, dude.
B
Smiling about it.
A
Get out of here, bird brain. She ain't scared. Yeah. And if you want to scrub just a bit forward, Kev, to when the giant plant pops up, you get a little bit more stakes to the matter there as she gets up there and does that idea from the. There's funny one liners here.
B
The combat perspective, like, you know, Arkham I think feels revolutionary at the time. I think we've iterated so much to where we're at now that like some of the combat can be fairly repetitive and simple. Yeah. Quote unquote. Dumb it down to the LEGO standard.
A
Yeah.
B
Are you feeling that like. Are you feeling like I am just doing the same. Same button presses over and over and over or is it like visually stimulating enough that it kind of makes up for it?
A
I think it's visually stimulating enough. And this is obviously based on two hours visually stimulating enough. But more importantly, I think they're putting new sheens of paint on the enemies. Right. So fighting just the folks in the the club feels like one thing. Fighting two faces, different dudes feels another way. I think there's also moment to moment variances where the club is varied. Okay. We're trying to catch up to Falcone. There's a bunch of different puzzles to do. Kevin, I didn't mark it down exactly, but if you jump to the robin mission in 5151 anywhere in front of that, you'll eventually see this is more of an obstacle course. It's Batman trying to. And Robin, to that matter, up where the trapeze are jumping around, doing all these different. Yeah, you're doing great, Kevin. You want to jump maybe five minutes from here inside of the Hippodrome. You're up there, you're climbing around, you're jumping around, you're doing the dang thing. There's like, like spinning almost in Skip. It had to wear. Yeah. Thanks, Kev. People throwing things. This is clearly not. Things haven't gone wrong yet. But when two face is there and like there's things to Jump to climb to go. You can fall. This is probably the. Not this section. But later on, Kev, if you want to just jump to when there's bad things happening. This is probably where I failed the most. Not here, but later on when there's like a spinning thing I'm trying to get up to and I'm trying to jump. Da da da. So they're keeping you on your toes on that front. And again, the different abilities in. And weapons that seemed like the people were bringing into. I was enjoying that and felt like that was keeping me engaged and not just, okay, I'm doing this again. Let alone what I hope the skill tree will bring to it, let alone what a new costume will always do when I get in there. A new Batsuit.
C
Any appearance of the bat nipple suit?
A
Yeah, I think it is in there. Right. I think I might have even been wearing it in one of them at the Batman and Robin George Clooney suit in there. Yeah.
C
Or the nipples present, is the question.
A
I think so. Right.
C
Nice.
A
I didn't pay close enough attention to it, but I. With these guys, with these guys with TT games and these people, I should say, of course. I think you're going to be just fine with that. I think you. I think you'll get some nips.
C
Cool.
A
Don't worry.
B
So this game is imminent.
A
Yeah, I know, right? Yeah. Yeah. That snuck up on me for sure.
B
Close. There was a super chat here from Dexter saying, have they confirmed when the Switch 2 version releases a quick look. Seems like they have. Not yet. Okay. Do you have any concerns about that?
A
I mean, in the same way we always have concerns about a Switch 2 port. I think this looks so good on the PC. I was playing it on that. That I'm sure you. Maybe we lose some fidelity in the cape, you know what I mean? But I imagine it'll be just fine. And I think that'll obviously be a place a lot of people play it.
C
Maybe a 30 frame.
A
Yeah, exactly. Something that.
B
Where would you want to play this? Keeping Ben in mind.
A
Yeah, great question. This is a PlayStation 1 for me. This is. I'd like to try to platinum this. I'd like to have it.
B
Oh, bringing Greg back to the plants.
A
I never left. All right. This is just a special game for me to come platinum now. But I mean for this being.
C
As he walks into his trophy room
A
and blows the dust off off. Shuhei turns to me, he's like, I haven't seen you in a while. No, but I mean for this being a collectathon. Like it is a. It is. I could also see it being a rog game of like. Okay, I'm just gonna sit there on the couch while Jen watches whatever and grind out Riddler trophy.
C
Hit these loud ass buttons.
A
Yeah. Jesus Christ. Sounds like a PlayStation Portal game to you. Me then. Exactly. And that's where it'll be as well, Kev. You know what I mean? It'll be all over it. But we'll see. We'll see. And then. Yeah, then I can put Ben to work on getting in it for me too. When he's just doing it and I stop.
B
There's nothing funnier to me than Greg Miller having his son grind out he doesn't want to do to get a platinum.
A
That's like perfect. Hell yeah, Kevin. I know we're.
C
You have video game time. Time tonight.
A
Kevin. I'd love to show them 2344 as well if we can get sound up for that. I think that's another funny one to actually hear, but yeah. You know, again. Here we go. So, yeah, me and Gordon's giant drill.
B
Seems like the next logical approach.
A
The elevator is broken, so we built a giant drill. My birthday's ruined. Oh, happy birthday.
B
Let's talk.
A
We'll fix it. Hey, who's that? Where'd they come from? Should we call Mr. Falcone? Uh oh. Why don't we do one simple blend in?
B
Astronaut.
C
Yeah.
A
Yeah. It's one of the Lego guys. Just a classic Lego costume.
C
Astronaut blend in. He starts dancing.
B
Dude, this is how Batman begins.
A
So just a fun. Obviously everybody remembers Batman. Adam west dancing. Why not toss in a dancing mini game here for Batman and Gordon here in a second.
B
And again, like, it's the perfect type of stupid.
A
Yeah, exactly, exactly, exactly. I think. And that's what it is, right?
C
It's like Nick's gonna laugh.
A
Yeah. Oh my God. Yeah. Nick Streaming. This will be hilarious, right? Yeah, but it's. You need that buy in the of like, this is the world this guy exists in. This is the Batman. This is the thing. And I'm like, hell yeah, let's go.
B
That's awesome.
A
Yeah, I can't wait.
B
Anything else you want to talk about with this guy?
A
Man, I feel like there's still so much you could go into again, you know, not only are there Riddler trophies, there's Clue Master stuff out there.
B
Again, these are about Clue Master. I'm not familiar.
A
Go to 14900, Kevin. Let's hear about DC Comics. Clue Master.
C
Is he on the level of Mixel Mixel okay, what?
A
You think a guy you never heard of Clue Master is on the same level as Another dimension imp? Mr. Mixelplicks.
C
Another guy never heard of?
A
Well, first off, how dare you. All right? Secondly, read a comic once in your life, all right? Remember when Mr. Mixelp gave Lex Luthor the red kryptonite? And that thing, and then he couldn't tell, but then Lex, he said if Superman ever found out that that's what it was, then it would. But then Lex told Clark and then his powers came back and Was it anyways Clue Master? No, he's not. He's a very much like Polka Dot Man. Condiment King. Like, he's just like one of those guys, right? He's clearly just a cheaper riddler. Yeah, but again, here's the map of all the stuff to go do. All the stuff to go collect. The stuff that will keep me going on my portal. Kevin, you are right there. Don't worry about that.
B
Is Mr. Mr. Mxelpix related to the caterpillar? No, he's not related from Shazam?
A
No.
B
Who's that guy?
A
Guy?
C
Caterpillar.
A
Mind Master, wasn't it?
B
I don't know.
A
I thought he was Mastermind.
C
Tim.
A
You knew the answer to that.
C
Come on.
B
Caterpillar in the post credits of Shazam. You don't.
C
Oh, my God. I remember. Oh, my God. What the was that about?
A
Mr. Mind. God damn it.
B
Mr. Mine. Mixel Plix.
C
Remember the end of like the. The Venom post credits? Remember that?
A
Which.
B
Which one?
C
I just thinking of the one with the. With the guy. Maybe I'm thinking of the caterpillar, actually. Think of it.
A
Oh, yeah. I smashed a calendar, man. Thing there.
C
There was a calendar in jail, right? In jail?
B
Yeah.
C
Caterpillars in jail.
A
That's right, man. The dceu. It could have been something.
B
It could have been.
A
Could have been something.
B
Oh, man.
A
Love it. I love this game. Very, very excited to play it. Very excited to sing. I'm sure an obscene amount of hours into it and ignore a lot of other games. Games.
B
Yeah. Man. What a time right now for games.
A
I know.
B
Just too many things coming out. It will not sit back to back. But even just right now with May, it's like, all right, we have forts on the way. We. I have Yoshi on the way.
A
Mixtape.
B
Everyone's mixtape's imminent for people.
A
Yep, yep, yep.
B
Yeah.
A
And then what? Yeah, a direct.
B
And April was crazy too.
A
I know. It just doesn't stop. There are too many games. But we'll keep covering them. Here. I'm kind of funny.
B
We will. Tomorrow's games cast is just what we've been playing.
A
Yeah.
B
We can kind of COVID all the little things here and there.
A
You know what?
B
Exciting.
A
We'll talk about that though.
C
Oh, he's winking.
B
He's winking. Everybody.
C
Am I gonna have to change the thumbnail?
A
You might. Well, I mean we would still do the what you been playing. Just.
B
We'll talk about this off air, everybody. Thank you for hanging out.
A
Do we want to start late and then react to Stranger Than Fiction or Stranger than Heaven, the Xbox presentation for that? Because they fooled us once last time.
B
Yeah.
A
And it wasn't good.
B
You won't get fooled again with this.
C
Right?
A
But this, no, this. I think they're actually. This is 30 minutes they say of 30 minutes of like we're talking about this game. Yeah.
B
I'm excited to see what the set looks like because they're hyping up that. It's like a very stylish set, stylish production. Oh, I want to see that. I want to see that.
C
Is it going to remind us of the. Remember the Dying Light 2 showcase? That was a pandy one. They were like on a kind of like, you know, very cool looking set as well.
B
No, don't remember that. You remember the Dying Light two thing that they did? I sure don't. Everybody. And let me know your thoughts on Mr. Mxelpix. We will are about to do the kind of funny podcast that's going to be a lot of fun. Thanks for hanging out with us. Until next time, I love you all. Goodbye.
C

On this episode, Tim Gettys, Andy Cortez, and Greg Miller dive deep into their hands-on preview of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, the upcoming action-adventure from TT Games. Greg, having played two hours of the game at a media event, shares his impressions, with lively discussions on gameplay, nostalgia, comparisons to Arkham and LEGO games of the past, and the loving DC/Batman references permeating the experience.
Exploring the fusion of classic Batman mythology, LEGO game charm, and Arkham-inspired gameplay in TT Games' biggest and most ambitious Batman title to date.
Early skepticism about the game simply retelling Batman movies, akin to the formula used in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
Relief and excitement after learning Legacy of the Dark Knight crafts its own original Batman story, drawing from all of Batman's history but remixing and celebrating it in a TT Games/LEGO way.
The game is filled with references and scenes that riff on or mash up moments from across Batman films (e.g., visiting the Iceberg Lounge, Haley Circus origin) but never strictly reenacts scenes one-to-one.
The game is described as a “Batman museum,” brimming with nods:
Hidden collectibles, nods to comic runs, films, and DC deep cuts throughout Gotham.
Core structure: open-world Gotham (inspired by Arkham games); tons of collectibles, side events, mini-games, crimes-in-progress a la Spider-Man.
Three selectable difficulties: Classic (easy), Cape Crusader (normal), Dark Knight (hard). First Lego game to offer this.
Deep co-op integration. Local couch co-op possible, but also fun solo.
Combat plays very similarly to Arkham games: combo-driven, with reversals, gadget interplay, stealth takedowns, etc.
Skill trees and character upgrades for each playable character (Batman, Robin, Catwoman, Gordon, and more).
Visually, the game is praised for leveraging Gotham’s darkness to make the LEGO aesthetic pop.
It’s funny, irreverent, but also heartfelt—a “love letter” to Batman, with irreverent moments like Adam West dancing, obscure villains (Clue Master, Condiment King), and tons of jokes interspersed with serious references.
Story itself is silly and playful—don’t expect a serious “Arkham” tone, but do expect a ton of respect for Batman’s history.
If you’re a Batman or DC devotee, or just love a packed, playful collectathon, Kinda Funny is officially stoked for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.
