Adrian
Pretty small club because we've been trying.
Colin
To keep it vaguely under wrap.
Adrian
This has never been done before.
Colin
Make their own interpretations of it, their own edits.
Adrian
Breaking the 22nd barrier.
Colin
So the pace of it was quite frankly breathtaking.
Adrian
In the original format I did have about 25, 30 goes like catastrophic equipment failure.
Colin
Going for the Boogie Loo double just to get the landing. Had a couple of strings and it was extremely dangerous.
Adrian
Guys, I send the trap and it is gold for Ellie Aldridge and gold for Great Britain.
Colin
There's a new WU world record holder, but as of yesterday there's a new brand new Big Air hydrofoil world champion. What's happened, Adrian? Tell, tell the good folk.
Adrian
Well, I mean, I mean Hugo's won the. Won his first hydrofoil baguette, stopping Charles's impressive run of about 4,000 victories. But it was pretty shit conditions to be honest. It was pretty, pretty light. I think everyone's on 15 meter kites. There was guys who crashed the kites but they couldn't get it back up. There was guys who put the kite down and that was it. That was. The heat was over because it was impossible to launch. It was, it was six knots, man, on day one. Six knots they were doing, they were operating. But yeah, I mean the only competition that Hugo had was from Finn to be fair. And in Finn pushed him, pushed him hard. But yeah, Hugo's really good and I'm going to have Hugo on the podcast on Monday so that'd be super cool to hear from him and we can dive deep into Charles taking his record a bit more and also hopefully he's been selected for King of the Year then. So that's going to be super cool to hear from Hugo on Monday.
Colin
Yeah. So the king of the list should have been out by now. We were planning for that this week but it is still not. So they must be delivering, deliberating. Sorry, they're not delivering. That's the issue. They must be thinking does, should we put bloody Hugo in, shall we? Because he is down, down one end of the list and yeah, I think he's made a good cave for himself this year and like being able to beat all those bros. It's still impressive how many people have.
Adrian
Beaten Lorenzo in the heat this year. Hugo for sure. Andrea, Jeremy, it's a pretty small club who've beaten, beaten Lorenzo in some in a heat this year and he's one of them. So yeah, there's definitely something in that. Two of them in Lords of Tram as well.
Colin
Yeah, true, true. But yeah, Hugo Wigglesworth from New Zealand won the event in St. Peter Ording, and then won the event over in the Middle east. And now he's World champion. And I don't know how much his life will change from here because it's not. It's not the largest discipline of them all, but I think he should be in Kenya. We've said it before. Anyway, should we just move on from this subject?
Adrian
Move on? Let's move on. Let's talk dot, zip. Let's talk about the exciting news coming out. I know you guys like us talking about portrait stuff over and over, but this stuff is actually kind of cool. I'm actually super, super excited about this.
Colin
So finally we can actually say, because we've been trying to keep it vaguely under wraps, we've failed in that, honestly. But, yeah, today is the final day. If you listen to this, on Thursday the 30th, it's the final day before it releases on Friday. And we are basically putting all the raw footage from the Mykonos trip with Andrea, Lorenzo and Jeremy online on our site, so people can download it in its full raw form, which is 2.21 terabytes, or its more compressed form, which is like 44 gigabytes, and then they can do whatever they want with the footage. We are expecting people to peruse the footage and make their own interpretations of it, their own edits that you can then upload back to us. And then if it's good, we'll feature it on the side. If it's.
Adrian
We won't, we might feature it anyway. Maybe we'll have a category.
Colin
No, we're not putting on there. There's not a single video on that website. We're not about to start. Adrian.
Adrian
Debatable. It's debatable indeed.
Colin
But, yeah, we're excited.
Adrian
This has never been done before.
Colin
Not on this scale, it hasn't. And not with the three biggest, best riders in the world. And, yeah, we just wanted to create something that one brought the audience closer in, you know, brought them in inside the tent. And we also wanted to reflect how these three young men have come in and changed shit up. And giving the audience the ability to go in and change shit up in the footage was something that, like, perfectly gelled with that. So that's why we were drawn to it and thought, yeah, let's do something that is very intensive and risky with it, because that's what those boys are all about, aren't they? So, yeah, we built a custom site to 1 host the footage 2 present edits and 3 accept uploads. So built our own mini YouTube, basically, and put a game, put a game in front of it that you have to play and you have to complete to even access the mainframe.
Adrian
The mainframe access portal. I have noticed that the game's been slowed down due to some complaints from Lorenzo Casati, who was having problems breaking the 22nd barrier. But I think at the game, the, the speed of the jumping's been slowed down a little bit to it to make it a bit more easy. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because people like Loris and Loris obviously filmed on this trip and, you know, good mates with Jeremy. I see he's on the top, the top of the list now.
Colin
Let me have a look.
Adrian
But by the way, I did. I must admit though, in the original format, I did have about 25, 30 goes. I kept on crashing out. So I'm glad that it slowed down.
Colin
It's way too slow now. I'm on it, mate. This is boring now. Before it was hectic. So basically, guys, you just hit the space bar. It's like a. It's like a jumpy game. So you're going along and you're a kite. Yeah, you have to jump over the wind surfers. But we had it set up before, so the pace of it was, quite frankly, breathtaking. You had to be on the edge of your seat trying to not have a stroke at the. Because all the oxygen was just not going to your brain. Like, there's no. You couldn't breathe fast enough to keep up with it. But I'm looking at the leaderboard now. Loris, who is a videographer on the trip, is on 21,000 points. Lorenzo Casati in second place was 16,000 admin. Either me or you, 13,000. And then Raleigh, who made the site 10,000. But he did that 10,000 when it was basically impossible. Like, that 10,000 was un. The amount of skill was unbelievable.
Adrian
Put it this way, it was like a. A wood. It was like a woodpecker. You had to be like a woodpecker and you just had to time it right because it was.
Colin
Right now I'm, I'm. I'm making it hard again. This is. It's too easy.
Adrian
May maybe go half. Maybe we should go halfway between the speed, the Baltic speed and the slow speed.
Colin
I'm just going to text 1. This speed is bullshit.
Adrian
Colin, Neil, let's go back to dot. Zip.
Colin
Okay. Yeah, sorry. The game is actually not. Not the entirety of this approach.
Adrian
It is cool. It is cool. It is cool. And the Whole look of the mainframe and that is very sort of 90s, let's put it that way. But who's this for? I mean, who's dot zip for? Is this an opportunity for young videographers to. To get their name out there to. To get the hands on good footage and be able to use good footage of wr. Where do you see this going?
Colin
So we concepted it not with anyone in mind. We just sort of thought what would be, what's something that we would love to make and we would love to do it and this was it. But I think like subliminally we are making it for the younger versions of, of us. I guess if, you know, when I was first getting into kiting, watching Aaron Hadlow's Red Bull masterpiece videos, if that got put up in raw form and he asked the audience to edit it or whatever, I would have had a field day. So I guess that's really who it's for. And therefore in today's audience it's yeah, young, young people that want to edit and maybe get into that side of media creation and careers. But aside from that, I think anyone can enjoy this. Whether you've edited videos or not. It's in just interesting looking through piles and piles and piles of footage and seeing what that process is actually like and getting a peek behind the scenes as well. Because it is in raw form and there's stuff in there that you would never normally see, you know, that would get cut because it's boring or because it's not polished, you know, and not maybe not showing people in the best light. It's like much raw, accurate, real view. And for me, that's what's compelling as well. Like I don't want to see these three talking to a camera about a product video. I want to see them like just hanging out. I want to watch them in their most like unfiltered sort of. I think primitive is a word that comes to mind that is kind of primitive. You know, you're watching them full of adrenaline, conversing with each other and just being young men on top of the world really. And that between them, enjoy that. And you are kind of celebrating that by being part of this.
Adrian
And I also think it's an inside to them because for a lot of kite borders, they don't get to spend time with these guys up close and they know them from online or they've seen them in the events on beach, but they've never really had that been. Been the fly on the wall type.
Colin
Stuff, you know, yeah, exactly. Exactly. And it's a real privilege to be able to do this with them. And we don't take it for granted for a second. You know, these boys have come in and turned the sport on its head, and we really respect and appreciate what. What they've done. And, yeah, for them to trust us in this and, you know, let us go and do something kind of mental with it is. Yeah, I think they deserve credit as well for that because it takes real maturity to be able to be like, do you know what? We're gonna hand the keys over essentially, to the. To these people and trust us to do and do what is best for them and act in their best interest, which we've taken on board and taken seriously as well. So, yeah, here it is.
Adrian
To give some more information. Everything must be a remix. Must be a remix song. Is that part of the. Is that part of the rules?
Colin
So we won't have your edit on the site unless you're using a remix. You're remixing the footage. The least you could do is use a remix song. Because the ethos of the whole thing, you're changing it up. You're reinterpreting something.
Adrian
Yeah. I really hope people enjoy this. And I think, as you said, it's a great opportunity if you are a young or just an expiring video editor. It's a great opportunity to get raw footage of the best in the world. Right, That's. That's pretty rare. Right. You have to go to these spots and film it yourself. And. Yeah, so that's. That's super cool. And we also doing some. We're also doing a couple of other cool projects with that. We've got a book coming out, as Jason said, a zine.
Colin
You know what zine is now, Adrian? It's good.
Adrian
I do. It's like a magazine book mix, which I don't know why it's called a zine, but. Yeah, so we're creating. We're creating the first book, the portrait book, called Garros and Gunfingers, which I think is a pretty sick name, which.
Colin
Is a remix in itself, because Jason decided to shoot this in a way that he hadn't done before, entirely on film, on a camera that he had never touch. He had no idea if that camera would actually produce good results, if any result. Like, there's a high chance that there would be a massive light leak and everything would be gone, and then we'd have, like, 11 days of stills gone. So he took massive, massive irresponsible risk. There really and pulled it off the book.
Adrian
Honestly, I don't. I know this sounds a bit wanky to say, but the book is fucking sick. It looks sick.
Colin
It's kiteboarding in a way. It hasn't been a trade before.
Adrian
It's a limited run and if you buy the book, I believe you get a hat with it, a portrait hat. We are going to do some other merch as well. There's going to be a T shirts, hoodies and another hat that's also going to be limited run along with this whole process. So just like the. The Nine Lives jerseys that we did, this is also going to be a limited run. So if you did get the nine Lives, which sold out super fast, this is going to be another opportunity to get limited merch coming out from Portrait, which I think is going to be pretty special. You know, when we went to Denmark and Jason, I got picked up by one of the Portrait members. I don't want to say her name, just in case. And Jason was like, oh, she's over here. I'm like, how do you know? You don't even know her. But she was wearing her Nine Lives Portrait top to pick us up, which was pretty cool at the airport to see. So, yeah, we laughed at that.
Colin
Nice. Let's just throw back to Mykonos for a little bit. They were the most frantic 11 days. And we'd been there before, but. And we knew it could be really windy, but this one just blew his tits off, like we knew it could for a couple days. And then the boys were also, like, together for the first time in a long time they'd been apart. And it was interesting to watch those three come back together and kind of join forces again and be competitive, but also be mates and be just young men on the top, on top of the world. But, yeah, what we witnessed that week was sort of rock stars on holiday, wasn't it?
Adrian
And that was funny because you and I had been saying for some time, how do we get trapped back together? And there's a. There's some. There's some footage there and you can see it in some of the edits. Well, if you go look on the site now, there's some edits there. When it's like Andrea saying, the trap is back, baby. And it's like we hadn't really seen. Because they got. I think because Andre and Lorenzo got so competitive and driven a wedge between. They were still mates, right. But had driven a wedge in there. That was something that was always there. And now that it's evened up a little bit. I. I feel like that's in a. They're in a better position. But yeah, it was great to see them being friends again and then, and then enjoying each other and, and spending time together. I mean, Jeremy's the glue, right? He's the one who's sort of like the mediator between the. The two. The two other boys. But yeah, it was super cool to see him. Yeah, it was a really good trip. And yeah, that, that was fun. That was fun.
Colin
So Jeremy and Lorenzo turned up first flew from. I think actually Lorenzo was in Tarifa, but Jeremy was at home in Tenerife. And on that first day, it was over 40 knots, gusting 45, maybe late 40s. That's the same day that Jet Bradshaw did the short line loop on the fuel. And yeah, they just went obscenely high. Obscene. Huge. Huge, like whole bay clearing boosts from Lorenzo. There's one clip that you'll. We'll put up on Instagram as part of the promotion, but it's honestly ridiculous. He just hits the roof. And Jeremy was double looping his six for the first time since breaking his leg and kind of finding his confidence again. And Lorenzo was just on fire that day.
Adrian
Yeah, I remember he came in, he's like, man, I don't even want to loop. I just want to jump big. It was crazy. It was like, I just want to jump big. And if you've ever been to the Duotone Pro Center Mykonos, as you look across the bay, there's a couple of. Well, there's a bunch of huge hills in the background. And those guys were regularly clearing those hills. You know, they're. They're actually going above those hills in your vision. Yeah. And that was. Was super cool to see. And yeah, it's really special when it gets that windy because there's literally no one on the water bar them. I mean, I think Baptiste Bordollis was out there for a little while, but it's just literally comes down to the very, very best can ride those conditions and stick with it. So, yeah, real privilege to see and a privilege to be there. That's.
Colin
And Andrea turned up maybe like four or five days in and he was doing some other video project at the time.
Adrian
I think that was when he was doing the trap house, which is now dead.
Colin
Yeah, Right. And he also arrived with no board bags. So he actually had to borrow Rolly, who is the guy that made the site. He had to borrow his 9 meter D lab Rebel and his board harness. I think everything maybe the harness.
Adrian
Andre didn't. Andre didn't ride Raleigh's harness. Let's just be honest. Rolly and Andrea have different waist sizes. Come on. No offense, Rolly, but that's not happening.
Colin
Okay. He definitely got a harness from the school. Yeah, that is what happened.
Adrian
That's right. Because he was wearing a different helmet one day. Remember he was wearing that. He's wearing a green helmet, like a school teaching helmet. So he was just borrowing gear from the, from the, from the kite school.
Colin
And let's just be honest here, as we're. We are letting people behind the. Behind the curtain somewhat. These boys would ride very hard during the day and then at night they would go hard as well. And a couple times the. The. Our entire house. So we had camera crew all staying in the same house with the boys as well. And the boys would come back and just create an absolute ruckus. I'm having sleeper though, so I was just busy dreaming.
Adrian
I think we were in the far side of the house. I mean, I didn't really hear much because I think to get to where we were sleeping, you had to go all the way down the hall. So I, I was fine as well. I didn't hear anything. But I. I always said to those guys, hey, guys, do whatever you want, but big boy at night, big boy in the morning, you know, I don't care what you do. But if we say we're going at 9 o', clock, you're ready to go and that. Pretty good. They're pretty good.
Colin
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think it was just.
Adrian
Yeah.
Colin
Because there's. So. We forget how young they are. We totally forget, don't we? It's easy to. Because we've been reporting on them, what, since 2020 now? Maybe a bit after. Within our fifth year of saying these names, but so it's easy to forget kind of how young they are sometimes. But yeah, at points it was kind of like herding cats, wasn't it? But that was sort of your job and you were excellent at it.
Adrian
They're pretty good. They're pretty good. Anyway, dot zip is available from Friday, which is the 31st. Check it out. If you know someone who's aspiring videographer, tell them to get involved in that because we'll be really, really interested to see the videos that are made. What else do we need to talk about this, Colin?
Colin
So the footage is available for free. Anyone can go on the site and download it. And edits we're keeping as part of Portrait for members. We will be taking the submissions Whenever they come. Don't feel like you need to rush it. Spend it, Spend your time and make something that you're happy with. And then, then submit to us and yeah, message us if you have any problems or questions or, or whatever. It's a new thing for us too. You know, we've never done anything like this, so any issues, do contact us. Probably Instagram, direct messages, maybe the easiest way to do that.
Adrian
Email team at portraitkite, that's probably also the other one. But guys, just with in regards to the book and the merchandise, be very, very quick with that because it is a limited run, we don't have many and last time it sold out super quick. So if you are interested in getting those, definitely get involved. Just follow the socials for when that stuff comes out because I think we'll be releasing stuff on that over the next or the next week anyway.
Colin
So we're gonna drop everything on the Friday, then we're gonna start letting edits come in and sort of let the social media wave do its thing. And then we're gonna drop the limited edition merchant bits like that. So, yeah, stay tuned. But those of you that are subscribed will be notified first and you'll hear about it on the Discord and inside the tent on. On Instagram as well, which is our broadcast channel. Next episode, Adrian is going to be the King of the Air list. Have you heard any whispers of when and who?
Adrian
The way Hugo text me when he said, oh, let's do it in a few days after the list is out. So I assume it's probably going to come out on the first 31st or first. So over the next few days we should be hearing that. King of the Air Fleet. It's going to be super interesting to go back and listen to the episode where we predict our fleet. We get it completely wrong every year, I think, because what we want and what they want are completely unaligned. But that's totally cool. That just is part of the narrative. But yeah, I mean, this is the fleet to make. This is the event to win. It's not the windiest, which is crazy to say, but this is the one with the most pressure, the most money. This is the one you want to win. That's it.
Colin
When the list drops, we'll jump on and go through it and dissect it. Who's in who and who isn't. And hopefully we get some reserve riders as well. It's always kind of difficult to work that out, but it's quite late in the game. The window opens on the 22nd. Right.
Adrian
About normal, though, isn't it?
Colin
Yeah, okay. I guess. Actually, pro kite borders don't really have anything better to do than to be thinking about King of the Air. So it's all right for the rest of the world.
Adrian
I mean, it is an interesting event, Right. Because everyone's there. It's not like these other events where you fly in. It's rush, rush, rush, and people. And they always dive into the reserve lists and they pull people up. This is different. The reserve list only gets activated for injuries, basically. No, there's never any travel restrictions on this one because everyone's there, they want to win it, and you want to ride in it. But it's only. The reserve list is only activated for people to get injured, which does happen and always. And some. Yeah, Yeah. I don't think last year, maybe. Yeah. But definitely some activation every year.
Colin
Cool. All right. Until then, thank you for us, as always. We'll see you in the next one. Goodbye.
