Colin, did you see Lorenzo Casati's board off late back from Gran Canaria?

[Adrian]

I did see it. I think you'd have to. You'd have to be more. You'd have to be far further removed than in a corner of a desert in Colombia to. To have missed that.

[Colin]

I mean, it's that classic. The more height, the simpler the trick, right? Because it is a. It is relatively an easy trick for him. But, dude, that is terrifyingly high. I mean, that is crazy high, man.

[Adrian]

31m on the surf wrap. Yeah, it. It's the biggest trick I've ever seen. It's the biggest trick I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot of tricks, Adrian.

[Colin]

I mean, those really big, you know, those guys who get caught up in como who go 50 meters, they ain't doing. They're just hanging on for dear life. So there is something to say that, right, as the, as the height gets higher, the. The trick gets easier. I mean, because most guys at that height are just boosting or woosting or doing their surfer jump, whatever they are. You know, they're not doing a border flight back.

[Adrian]

No. And look, Lorenzo could have done something absolutely mad technical, but I think the simplicity of what he did is so beautiful for it, isn't it? That is an amazing clip. Amazing clip. Have we got. Have we got any intel from it?

[Colin]

No, but I know I did see people going off, though, on Natalie Lambreck as well, doing a massive, big board off Kite Loop, also in the 20 meter area. But it's interesting how that spot's becoming a lot more of a training spot than, you know, it wasn't really a popular destination to go training. Right. It was the place that the Casati's Road, you know, and. And Jeremy would come over and train there. But now it's playing. It looks like it's a place that people like to go.

[Adrian]

The Kasatis live there now.

[Colin]

Yeah, yeah, yeah, sure, yeah. But, I mean, everyone's there at the moment, right? Everyone goes down and climbs across those bloody boulders and, you know, makes their life a misery. But I guess it's.

[Adrian]

It's worth the cheese, it's got that magic combo of a steep kicker, left foot forward and really lifty wind. That day looked particularly violent.

[Colin]

Did you get a chance to ride there when you went down for the Grand Canary event? I didn't go to that event. Did you get a chance to get in the water and. And fill it out?

[Co-commentator]

How was it?

[Adrian]

Yeah, the launch is scary, honestly. You meet, you give the old thumbs up, someone on the other end of it, let's go. And then you are navigating like dust and sharp rocks until you get to the water's edge, which is like very slippery. Bigger rocks, about the size of a shoe box, and they're all constantly moving with pounding waves. And you've got two options. One is like slowly zombie walk your way over them. Zombie walk for obvious reasons, because that's how zombies walk. Or you jump. And I remember at that event watching Leonardo Casati come in and he didn't bother with the rocks at all. He just tiptoed, tinkle toed. Yeah. He literally kept his kite at 12, sheeted in and just sprinted across them.

[Colin]

Yeah, yeah.

[Adrian]

Barely touching the rocks at all. But it looks so scary. And yeah, it was completely inappropriate place to run a world championship event. The launch was so sketchy and there was zero precaution made from it. I was really responsible of the GK, in my opinion, one of probably the GK's lowest events.

[Colin]

But that last event from the GK was just an absolute home run. Right. They just nailed that. I mean, I think along with great local partners. I mean, I think that's always the thing. If you can get good local partners, it just makes such a difference. Right. The GK shouldn't have to carry the whole burden. And you know, when you've got good local partners, like they do in. In Mykonos, like they do in the Lords of Tram, you know, those events do and can be really great events. But let's look at the big three coming up. We've got obviously the Mega Loop, King of the Air and Cold Hawaii. Who is the favorites for that?

[Adrian]

Lorenzo Casati is comfortable favorite for all of those. Yeah, I think he has this ability to go as high as the rest of them. But Lupus kite, unbelievably early, just like he does in that clip. And if you watch the point of view of him doing the short line stuff, the kites below him as he's still ascending, and to be able to do that with his board off whilst he's rotating is something that is unique only to Lorenzo at the moment, and the judges absolutely themselves for it.

[Colin]

What's stopping Leonardo getting to that level? I know we've heard Renato speaking about his strength, and that's something they're trying to work on, you know, trying to make him bigger and stronger. Is that the only factor stopping Leonardo now from being at the same level as his brother? And bearing in mind they are 3 years difference in age, I think Leonardo

[Adrian]

is more technical than Lorenzo. Like, there's stuff that Leonardo can do that no one else can do on Earth at the moment, with board spins and tic tacs and osmosis and all that shit, which I don't particularly like, but that's the way things have gone and that's what is exciting people on the Internet at the moment. But in that regard, Leonardo is stronger. I think Lorenzo would admit that. When it comes down to the heat of the battle, Lorenzo has this ability to find another gear that we haven't seen in Leonardo yet. So do I think he will get there? Yeah, I really do. I really do. Um, do I think Leonardo has it in him to win King of the Air this year? Yeah, I do. And do I think he will win it in the next few years? Yeah, I think he will. But at the moment, Lorenzo just seems to be able to find an otherwise untapped level of riding that no one else has at the moment.

[Colin]

What about Finn? Who was the other guy who was. Well, let's put Finn and Jamie in that same. In that same group. Can those guys put pressure on. On Lorenzo? But we are getting away from flat water, right? We're going into wave events, which is generally where Lorenzo even gets better, gets stronger. The kite works better.

[Adrian]

Lorenzo's always been better off. The kickers. Yeah.

[Colin]

Can they threaten him at all? For me, I think Finn's biggest downfall is going to be the workload. Not downfall, but I think the thing that's going to be against him the most is the. Is the workload. You know, he's having to juggle between freestyle training and that. I mean, I could have said that probably was the thing that caught him a bit short ride. He just didn't have the. Didn't have the bigger training. I know that you. You know, these young guys, they think you can jump on the kites and have a couple of good sessions and think, yeah, I'm back in, I'm back in. But competition blows that out of the water, right? Competition is the hardest you've ever been. And when all that pressure is on you, that years and years of ongoing Repetition is what you're going to call from. And if you've just been doing a freestyle comp two weeks before, you don't have that.

[Adrian]

Yeah, I think in years previous it would have been fine. But I think when you're up against Kasati brothers who do exactly what you just outlined, I just think they've got such an advantage over you do. I think it's remarkable what Finn's doing. Of course, it is really special. And he's a remarkable rider. Absolutely. I think he's probably the person that everyone fears the most at the moment. He's got that, like, special sauce to him and I think his potential is maybe higher than anyone's in the fleet. I think he's just a special rider. Jamie, I think, is really good, really, really good off the flat. He's always struggled a bit in kickers, struggled at Gran Canaria, struggled at King of the Air. He's had a few good results at Cold Hawaii, though. But do I think Finn and Jamie can challenge those two? Yeah, I think if we did 10 comps, I think the Casati brothers would win six or seven at the moment.

[Colin]

Lorenzo's beatable. We've seen him lose. Okay, we, we haven't seen him losing in Cape Town so much outside of the losses to Andrea, but he is beatable. I think with Andrea in his present state working on new kite, probably not going to bring the finished kite to this any of these years events. Maybe, maybe Cape Town. I just think it just means he can ride with a lot less pressure. You know, I just think that with one guy with that, with that sort of arch nemesis of his, not, you know, you got. You've got Jamie there. Jamie's beat him also. Jeremy's beaten him in big finals as well. But that's the one that he is the one he's always looking at. So I think he's probably going into the second half of the year thinking, I'm in pretty good shape here. I mean, Jamie, Jeremy, Finn, we can even say Shahar and. And his brother Leonardo are all the guys who are closer there. What, what about Baby Shark? Come back. Two events, two big semi finals. Great writing. Just seems to not be able to get it together in that semi final. And always comes off. He's always come off of that. I finally had done this. I've done that. And that is part of it. Do you think he can push through to that semi final and final? Yeah, for these next events?

[Adrian]

I think it's pretty epic what he's managed to achieve. Considering last year the underperformance at mega loop. Was that last year. The year before that was last year. Last year, yeah. Losing his brand, losing a sponsor hangrock bottom to come back like he has and semi final in the first two events. On a kite. He's barely ridden against the world's best. He beat Andrea when andrea was on a rebel. I think baby shock is on the move. Yeah. If he can continue this momentum. But he's going to have to take this momentum into a place he's never been before. So it's going to require a level of dedication and focus that he hasn't had before to go to the next step. He's. He's been here already, let's face it. But can he go another one? I don't know. I also think if he stays in Brazil, he cannot do it.

[Colin]

Sure. But I think that for him, you know, let's talk about the big one to win, which is kota.

Right.

And everyone wants to win kota. I think code is an event. Like, you know, he hasn't written in kota in two years. It's kind of crazy to think about that. Right? You had the. Had the injury one year pulled out and then last year just couldn't get it together. But when he was there, dude, he tore that place apart on his first time ever being there. You know, he's got the big unhooked tricks as well. I think cape towns are kind of the spot that he actually really likes. I think he can do well there and now with them rewarding moves on the inside, you know, like, you know, opening up the sort of variety patterns. I think for baby shark, you know, you really need to sit down with someone and say this is where you're going to score on the inside. This is where you're going to score on the outside and write it on his goddamn hand like Hugo does, you know? You know, you just got to own it. Because the reason why the casadis nail that is because they've got a plan. And he's a person who needs a plan. Although he doesn't like plans. He needs it.

[Adrian]

He needs our boy rolly, the mastermind behind fantasy. He needs rolly on the beach telling him what to do. Ry is a. A heat strategist like no other. Honestly. He always knows what someone needs to do and he always gets it right. It's pretty. It's pretty epic. The big thing that we haven't talked about yet is the risk Andrea has taken here. There is a world in which we don't see Andrea On a podium ever again. DRAMATIC SILENCES yeah. I mean, pretty, pretty appropriate. There. There's a chance that he just won't have the kite. There is a chance.

[Colin]

Maybe you're right, but I think he sort of transcended the sport. Yeah. It's difficult. I think Andre's prices in this industry is secure, let's put it that way. Reuben.

[Adrian]

I'm not questioning that.

[Colin]

Yeah. But never seeing on podium would be really tough because he is and made his name being that ultimate competitor. Right.

[Adrian]

I'm just saying, yeah, there's a chance that might not happen. I not doubting his ability to like remain at the top of everyone's minds and be a rock star. He obviously has that. But, yeah, for this competitive scene, I think the likes of the Casati family have. I think they're just rubbing their hands at the fact that he's no longer on a. On a Rebel. The Rebel is a kite that Lorenzo loves and has always loved. I think the Harlem that was the one. Is what he won as first king of the Air on. I think the Harlem Peak is really, really good and I think the Rebel is really, really good. Good at different stuff. And an RRD is just a complete unknown saying all that. Do I want RRD and Andrea to make a killer kite? Yes. Do I want him on the podium? Yes. Do I think RRD has just become really, really cool overnight? Yes. But who knows whether they can do it?

[Colin]

I. I don't know if I told you that that the first run of AP04s. The. The Andrea's new signature line. I think they're only making 50, dude. So we need to try and get our hands on one of the original lines. That would be kind of sick. Someone in the. Someone in the Discord was saying that should be a prize for fantasy. And I was like, bro, that should just be a prize for us. If we can get our hands on one of the original 50s, that would be. It would be kind of sick. But look, good riders can make not so good kites work. I mean, for. For a long time. And I'm not saying that Jason Van Der Spey is not a good rider because we know he is, but he struggled on that air rush kite. Seemed like he couldn't get the height, couldn't get the kite enough behind him to slow him down. Was just not really in tune with it. Maybe Shark jumped on that kite and looked like he was born with that kite in his hand. So maybe Andrea is going to get on that kite. I mean, we even saw Heel you know, riding elite chase kite and he'll heal. Speaks. Dude, he looked awesome. Okay, he didn't look awesome, but he. He looked fine.

[Adrian]

I should say he looked fine, but that's fine. Is not good enough to win king of the Year. And I understand Andrea has been so. That's what I'm saying. Is he going to be on podiums anymore? Yeah, I was thinking about the signature kite thing, the Apo 4 kite that will come. Who's the last person that had a signature kite? It's been such a long time.

[Colin]

Actually, I was speaking about that with Stig the other day. We've had a bunch of signature boards come out over the times. You know, there has been many signature boards. You know, Aaron. Aaron Hadlow's had that kite.

[Adrian]

The Hadlow Pro flexifoil.

I mean, is reading a sign? Is reading a signature. Has Bruno had a kite? I kind of feel like Bruno had a whole lineup of stuff, but yeah,

she has a Diamond series, but I don't know if it was called the Bruno. I don't think it was.

Liam's Porsche kite, was that a signature Liam Kai. It wasn't called the Whaley, Kyle.

Yeah, yeah. And then they had the flying pig one. They're never really. They're not really associated to a rider, really.

So, seriously, is it Hadlow Pro? That's the last miniature kite from 2011. That was the last signature kite. It's been 15 years.

It is cool, but it is not good business. You know, like I've been saying to people, guys, forget about all this stuff. If you're just a normal beach rider, you don't need all that malarkey. It's not good for business to build signatures. Right? It's good for business to build kites that the market can ride. Because I'm sure Andreas kite is going to be like Tiger woods clubs. You wouldn't be able to stick it down the fairway, you know, one time out of 100. I mean, his kite will just be so finely tuned, it will be crazy. And you've seen the way he's ridden kites. Remember that. Remember the, the Triple Contra in Mykonos, mate. He taped up the back lines and took 2 inches off his back lines to increase the speed. I mean, these guys are doing stuff differently. So I don't think Andre. You jump on Andre's kites and think, oh, this kite is the best kite in the world. I mean, he's probably got it set

[Adrian]

up very, very different at that point. He liked it. He was riding it in 45 knots and trying to shuffle loop it and was riding it with a lot of oversheet. So even with the bar half sheeted in, it was stalling. And Lorenzo went on it. And literally, because he prefers the opposite. Lorenzo doesn't like any stall in his kite ever. At least then he didn't. Maybe it's changed now, actually, because Mykonos. It did look like he's encouraging the store. Yeah, correct. Yeah, you're right.

And the action's awesome. But, you know, I always thought like doobie, shark attack, laid back. You know, I thought those names were kind of lame or different. Mate, I'm going to play some audio.
