This is Koko's Bedtime. Follow along by Susannah McLoughlin. Coco the koala just yawned, which is not unusual. Koalas are very sleepy animals and they yawn often. But this yawn. This one was a big one. This yawn indicated that it's bedtime. Do you want to come along as Coco gets ready for bed? You can play along and get in the bath and brush your teeth along with Coco and put your jammies on and get into bed at the same time. Or you can just listen. It's up to you. We join Koko, as he sips from his hot chocolate whilst he slurps the foam and chews on his marshmallows. Get any last things you need to do done. Koko, for example, has already picked up all of his toys and put them back in his toy box. Every book, ball game and action figure got collected and got dropped. 1, 2, 3, back where it belongs. Except of course his plushie Terry, who is a little cuddly human. Because don't you know, just as we cuddle bears to go to sleep, bears and such like cuddle little toy humans. Terry gets plonked on the bed. Ready for bedtime. Have you got all your toys packed away? As you put away the mess in your house, you can tidy your thoughts away in your mind. Take a big breath in, big breath out. Imagine putting your busy thoughts back away into their places, ready for tomorrow. Big breath in, big breath out. It's time now for Koko's bath time. Have you had your bath? Is now the time to hop in amongst the bubbles? When Koko goes into the bathroom, he sees a mountain of bubbles bobbing on the surface of the water just how he likes it. He takes a deep breath. He can smell roses and lavender and a hint of peonies too. He loves all these smells and takes another deep breath of the calming perfume. Koko climbs into the warm bath and lays back in it. Some of the bubbles begin to gently pop. Koko's dad sits in a chair at the side of the bath and chats to Koko. Koko moves his arms through the warm water and gathers some of the bubbles together. He tries to make them into a castle, but the bubbles look more like a cloud. Koko doesn't mind. He loves clouds and sometimes he dreams about floating through the sky on a fluffy white cloud. He decides to make more clouds out of the bubbles. When he has enough clouds, he makes himself a bubbly hat and gives himself a bubbly beard too. His father laughs. Can you make a bubble beard in your bath? Koko asks his dad to lean closer and when he does, Koko gives him a bubbly hat and beard also. His dad looks at himself in the mirror and says he looks very handsome indeed in his new hat and beard. The two koalas take the bubbles from their heads and gently blow on them. The bubbles float through the air and land so softly in the bath. Koko lowers himself further into the scented water. It feels so warm and relaxing. He yawns. Dad says it's time for Koko to get out before he falls Asleep in the bath. He takes a fluffy towel from the warm radiator and as soon as Koko gets out of the bath, he wraps it snugly around him. Now it's time to dry off. Get snuggly in your towel. Koko's going to use the hair dryer. Are you? Did you know that koalas don't just use hair dryers on their heads? They're furry all over. So Koko lets the warm air of the hair dryer heat his whole body, drying every last bit of fur until he's fluffy and poofy and clean. Now it's time to put your pyjamas on. Koko's favourite pyjamas were on the radiator already, so they're all nice and warm. They'd been out on a washing line that morning and smelled of sunshine and warm breezes. They're the ones with the yellow ducks on them. Which ones are you wearing tonight? Do you have dinosaur PJs or ones covered in diggers or unicorns? Put on your PJs. First one leg, then two, then one arm, then two, and there we are. You look fabulous and ready for dreamland. It's time now for Koko to brush his teeth. Are you going to brush yours too? This takes two minutes, and to make sure he does them long enough, Koko's dad sings his toothbrushing rhyme. It's about to start. Toothbrush at the ready. Squeeze your toothpaste on the brush and let's begin. Now Koko washes his toothbrush, gives himself a sleepy grin in the mirror and goes to get in bed. In he hops. Are you going to hop into bed now, too? Koko pulls his covers all the way up to his chin. He reaches for Terry and cuddles him against his chest. He smiles happily. He loves his bed. Grandma Koala is on bedtime story duty tonight. She comes in and turns on the lamp at Koko's side. It's in the shape of the moon and has a halo of twinkling stars floating around it. Grandma sits in the chair next to the bed and rests her hands on her lap. She asked Koko which story he would like to hear. Koko thinks about all the bedtime stories he knows. He loves them all. He knows stories about a magical school where a brother and sister go on enchanting adventures together. And tales about a kind monkey who travels the seas and makes lots of new friends wherever he goes. There is a story about a wise elephant who loves helping others. And another story about a magical carpet that can fly through the sky. Koko would love to have a carpet like that. Koko asks Grandma if he can have the story about the magic school. Please. The one where the children first arrive at the school and the magic begins. Grandma said she likes that one too. She asks if Koko's warm enough. He nods and snuggles even further under the warm blanket. He closes his eyes and waits for Grandma to begin. Grandma starts to tell him the tale of the magical school and the wonderful things that happen there. The words of the story drift into Koko's mind and he finds himself happily transported into another world. He remembers about taking slow, deep breaths to help him relax more. The little koala begins to take some deep, relaxing breaths. In and out. In and out. The bedtime story continues. Grandma's voice is low and soothing. Coco takes a more relaxing breath. In and out. In and out. A delightful drowsiness flows through his body from the top of his head down to the tips of his toes. His blanket is warm and snuggly. His bed is soft and cozy. The story continued. Grandma's voice is low and soothing. Koko smiles softly. The little koala falls into a deep, relaxing sleep and is soon lost in restful dreams. Sam ra.
