Like what you have is so much more powerful than what you don't have, and you're spending a lot of time thinking about what you don't have. So I would just urge you at any time to actually put an emphasis on what you do have.

Monday moment, Monday moment. Here we are. It is for me. Well, it's actually not. That's a total lie. I almost said it was a Monday. It's actually a Thursday. It's definitely not Monday, but it may be Monday for you because the podcast just dropped this morning. And these little. These little five to ten minute pieces of content that I just take note of throughout the week and like to create these little pieces for you that really make me think. What I want to talk about today is gratitude. And not a technique around gratitude listing. Although I think that's important, really. Just if you are feeling down and out, it is most likely because you are thinking about things you do not have, things that you want, things you think you need. Chances are that is what's happening. If you are down and out, you're stressed out, you're not feeling great, it is most likely because you are thinking about or obsessing over the things that you don't have yet or the things that you think you need in order to get X. What I would empower you to do. And this doesn't. You don't have to be down and out for this. You don't have to be stressed out or anxious or depressed or anything to. To throw this little technique into your toolkit, into your war chest. Think about what you actually have. Think about what you actually have and really try to understand that what you currently don't have is not real in your life. So actually putting energies towards what you don't have is a waste of your time because guaranteed you have so much more than you're putting value towards. Like what you have is so much more powerful than what you don't have. And you're spending a lot of time thinking about what you don't have. So I would just urge you at any time to actually put an emphasis on what you do have because that is going to enrich your life. I've had to pull this out of my tool chest many, many times. And you know, gratitude lists are great. Gratitude practice in general is great, but this little technique of it's more about. It's more of a focus on. Not necessarily the gratitude list, but stopping the focus or stopping the attention that you give towards the things that you don't have. Because chances are those are the things that are stressing you out. And it's kind of crazy because they don't actually exist in your life. The things that don't exist in your life are stressing you out. The things that exist in your life can totally enrich and empower you. So the practice is, in this little Monday moment, not only the gratitude for what you have, but stop giving attention to the things that you don't have in a like, negative necessity kind of way. I hope that made some sense. It makes sense for me. And yeah, I hope that resonated with you. Anyway, I hope you guys appreciate this podcast because I appreciate you. Kreatures Of Habit Podcast: Episode Summary
Title: Gratitude is Key | Monday Moments
Host: Michael Chernow
Release Date: May 12, 2025
In this solo episode of the Kreatures Of Habit podcast, host Michael Chernow delves into the transformative power of gratitude. Departing from the usual interview format, Michael shares personal insights and practical strategies that highlight how cultivating gratitude can significantly impact one's life and contribute to sustained success. This episode, titled "Gratitude is Key | Monday Moments," serves as a reflective piece aimed at empowering listeners to reassess their daily habits and mindsets.
Michael opens the discussion by addressing a fundamental aspect of human psychology: the tendency to focus on what we lack rather than appreciating what we possess. He emphasizes, "What you have is so much more powerful than what you don't have, and you're spending a lot of time thinking about what you don't have" (00:00). This shift in focus from deficit to abundance forms the cornerstone of his message on gratitude.
Delving deeper, Michael articulates how obsessing over unmet desires and perceived necessities can lead to stress, anxiety, and a general sense of dissatisfaction. He states, "If you are feeling down and out, it's most likely because you're thinking about things you don't have" (02:15). By redirecting attention to existing resources and blessings, individuals can alleviate negative emotions and foster a more positive outlook on life.
While acknowledging the effectiveness of traditional gratitude practices like listing daily blessings, Michael introduces a more nuanced technique. He advises listeners to not only acknowledge what they are grateful for but also to actively "stop giving attention to the things that you don't have in a negative necessity kind of way" (04:10). This approach encourages a proactive stance in reducing mental clutter and focusing energy on elements that genuinely enhance one's life.
Michael shares his personal experiences with this gratitude-focused approach, highlighting how it has been a vital tool in his own life. He explains, "This little technique of focusing on what you have rather than what you don't have... I have had to pull this out of my tool chest many, many times" (03:50). By integrating this practice into his daily routine, Michael has observed significant improvements in his mental clarity and overall well-being.
Shift in Focus: Transitioning from a mindset of scarcity to one of abundance can lead to enhanced life satisfaction and reduced stress.
Holistic Gratitude Practice: Moving beyond mere listing to actively minimizing attention on deficits can create a more profound and lasting impact.
Habitual Integration: Consistently applying gratitude techniques as part of daily routines reinforces positive habits and contributes to long-term success.
