You're watching a horse race. You're sitting in the stands. You got money on, you know, True Believer. You see True Believer down there. He's just at the gate, like, ready to go. You want that horse to win and the gates open. Boom. Horses run. True Believer trips, True Believer trips. And the chances of True Believers catching up to the rest of the pack are slim to none. Don't be True Believer. Don't trip out the gate.

What's going on, podcast family? My name is Michael Chernow, and this is the Creatures of Habit podcast. Our habits will make us or they will break us. I've lived on both sides of the tracks and have experienced some of the best and the worst that habits have in store. The decisions we make on a consistent basis truly define who we are as human beings. This episode will be a solo episode where traditionally I interview guests. This is a solo episode where I share with you guys experiences that I've had, things that are relevant in my life today that I think could potentially be interesting for you to hear, things that I simply just want to share or quotes or activities that I've done over the last few weeks that have inspired me. So sit back, relax, and get out your pen and paper, because what you hear in this podcast could potentially make some big changes in your life.

Let's go. What up, family? Back in the seat Monday. Moment. Thinking about a lot on the train ride over here. I want to talk about small actions today. Small actions making big impact. That's kind of been my MO for life. In general. Do little things on a consistent basis, stack them up, make big impact. It's like compounding interest. You know, if you have a bank account and you transfer $5 a day from your checking account to a savings account, you look at that thing in six months, you just saved a lot of money. Small actions, little things done on a consistent basis make big wins. It's just. It's just a fact. And I was on the train today. It was hot coming over here, a lot of people stuffy. But I had a seat, and I was just feeling a little overwhelmed, and I was like, man, what can I do right now in this moment to sort of change my environment? What can I do to feel better than I felt in that moment? And what did I do? I closed my eyes and I took five deep breaths, and when I opened my eyes, I just felt better. It's just a fact. Little things done consistently make big impact. I've said that three times now since I've started the podcast because I Just know it is so powerful and so important. And if you've been listening to this podcast for a long time, obviously we're called the Creatures of Habit podcast. We talk a lot about habits here. The business of creatures of habit is about putting little wins nutritionally in your path on a day to day basis to help you make better decisions throughout the rest of your day. You compound that over time. You're living a healthy lifestyle. So with that, I want to just talk about morning routine with you a little bit and how my morning routine has changed a lot over the last four to six months. I've kind of stepped off the long strung out, 15 step morning routine, which by the way, I absolutely love. And, and when I'm in that season, I kind of feel untouchable. But I just haven't been in that season for the last four or five months. I've kind of transitioned to the non negotiables. And there's a number of reasons as to why, but ultimately it still fills my cup in the morning. And so when we hear about morning routine, you know, traditionally now, we think about like all these different things. You know, you wake up at a certain time, yeah, you have a big glass of water, you wait 90 minutes to have your coffee, you go into the sauna, you hit the cold plunge, you do all the things, which I love. But there's also another version of that that I think is totally optimized and efficient. And for me, it has literally been wake up typically around the same time. Now I'm giving myself a little bit more room to sleep because I'm not doing all these things in the morning. I'm giving myself. I'm waking up about 5, 35, 45, whereas before I was waking up at 5. So I'm sleeping about a half an hour, 45 minutes longer. I go downstairs, I do have a big old jug of water with a bunch of stuff that I put into it. I call it my morning cocktail. I head into the bathroom, I have an oral care routine. And honestly, I turned up the volume on my oral care routine ever since I had a dentist on this podcast that really sort of introduced this idea that oral care is as important as healthcare in general. And for whatever reason they're disjointed and he is, Dr. Jonathan Levin is basically bringing those two things back to center. So I have an oral care routine. It looks like this. I brush my teeth with an electric toothbrush for two minutes, I scrape my tongue, I floss, and then I rinse with a, with a With a mouth rinse to set my ph in my mouth. And so I do that. And then I wash my face. And I have a skincare routine too, which I love, which is I wash my. I wash my face. I put on this eye cream, and then I got this face moisturizer that I use from this company, Caldera Lab. I love this stuff. I've been using it for a really long time. I take my time with it. It just makes me feel good. And then I drop down on my knees and I pray. And prayer has been a consistent habit of mine for 20, almost 21 years now. Prayer is super duper important to me. And for some of you, that potentially can, you know, send some cringy feelings because, you know, you think of prayer and religion. For me, prayer doesn't necessarily have to do with religion. Prayer has to do with checking in with a power greater than myself that is essentially my. My hope rope. It's my. It's. It's. I start my day with faith. I start my day with hope, and I ask for help. And asking for help, I think is arguably one of the most powerful can do as human beings on a daily basis. Because we all need help. And I think one of the hardest things for most of us to do is to ask for it. So I start my day asking for help every single morning. And it takes about, I don't know, three to five minutes. And once I'm done with that prayer. Oh, I should say one other thing that I've recently introduced into my prayer that's been super powerful for me was for years and years, I would ask God to help remove the things that I wasn't happy with about myself in my life. And someone had mentioned to me after I shared my prayer with him, and he said, you know, by saying those things, you're putting those things into the universe. By saying, God, help to remove my fears, my insecurities, my character defects, you start your day by actually putting those words out there, putting those feelings out there. You should turn that on its head. And instead of asking God to help remove certain things, ask God to add certain things, like please bring love and light, bring joy, bring courage, bring confidence, bring risk taking, bring kindness, allow me to be of service, things like that. So that's. So that's one thing that I just wanted to throw a little highlight on. That's been a big difference for me in my prayer, my prayer game. And then I do push ups and I do 60 straight push ups. And I read somewhere a long time ago that if you can do over 40 pushups straight, your chances of cardiovascular disease goes down by like 40%. So I've been doing push ups every morning after my prayers for a long time. It's a way to just sort of like get a little pump on, get my blood flowing, move my body early first thing, and it feels good and it's challenging too. So I challenge myself every day to get it done. I don't always want to do it, but I do it. So I put myself in a challenging position first thing in the morning. And then I stretch and then I do down dog, up dog. I do that five rounds and then I do cat cow five rounds. And quite frankly, that is where it has been for me for the last probably five months. That is what I've done. I take it with me everywhere. I travel with it, I take it. It's an easy, easy morning routine that makes me feel good, sets the tone for the day, pours the concrete so that I could build my foundation on. And chances are I'll get back to the sauna and the cold and the reading and the writing and all that stuff. But for right now, this is where I'm at. And I wanted to share that because again, I said small, small things can make a big impact. And what I just relayed to you guys is my morning routine is not big, heavy lifting things. It's small, little things that definitely do compound over time. And I think it's important that we all can kind of feel that, that that having a morning routine is accessible. You don't need all sorts of tools and gadgets and biohacking things in order to have a successful morning routine. If there's one thing that I always recommend to people that are looking for a little bit of grace, a little bit of space, a little motivation, inspiration, it is to create a morning routine, if you don't already have one. Starting your day consistently day after day with the same exact thing, all being positive action makes a huge difference in our lives. You've heard me say it many times before. Today is the fucking day. Today is the day. Yesterday is gone. Not a single human being or living thing has ever been able to go back to yesterday and live. It's all gone. It's done. So wasting energy, time and brain space thinking about what happened yesterday is a waste of your time. Now learn from your mistakes for sure, but don't stress out about what you did yesterday or didn't do yesterday, because today's the day, tomorrow's not guaranteed. You know, someone asked me recently, they said, hey, you know, you've been talking a lot more about God recently. And they're right. I have. I have. And that's because I've just been getting signs. I've been getting signs, you know, and I could chalk it up as coincidence or, you know, and again, like, I just. I don't subscribe to any secular religion. I'm not necessarily a religious person. But having a relationship with a power greater than myself that I can count on, that I can connect with on a daily basis, ask for help, and believe that there is something out there that has got my back, that's not another human being that could potentially be unreliable is powerful. It's powerful. So, yes. Have I been talking more about God? I have. If that makes you uncomfortable, I'm sorry. It's just who I am and part of my story right now. So I hope this podcast, this little tidbit, put a smile on your face, gave you a little push, maybe lit a little fire under your ass just to kick off a morning routine that's not crazy. That's not gonna take you 40 minutes to handle. What I just listed out was, I don't know, maybe it takes me 10 minutes all in. And it really does bring positiv and confidence into my day and my life. So remember, y', all, today's the day. Start in the morning. It all starts in the beginning of the day. I like to think about it like this. You're watching a horse race. You're sitting in the stands. You got money on, you know, True Believer. You see True Believer down there. He's just at the gate, like, ready to go. You want that horse to win and the gates open. Boom. Horses run. True Believer trips. True Believer trips. And the chances of True Believer catching up to the rest of the pack are slim to none. Don't be True Believer. Don't trip out the gate. Start. Start right, start. Start strong. And. And you have complete control over that, and that's a fact. I love you all. I appreciate you guys tuning into this podcast. If you're listening to this on a Monday, because this is a Monday moment, I hope you have the best Monday ever. And, yeah, much love, peace, and respect until the next one, y'. All. Peace.
Kreatures Of Habit Podcast Summary
Episode: Small Actions. BIG Impact. | Monday Moments
Host: Michael Chernow
Release Date: July 28, 2025
In the Monday Moments episode of the Kreatures Of Habit Podcast, host Michael Chernow delves into the profound impact of small, consistent actions. Breaking from the usual guest interviews, Michael presents a solo episode where he shares personal insights, routines, and philosophies that have shaped his journey toward success.
Michael opens the episode with a compelling metaphor about a horse race, emphasizing the pitfalls of overconfidence and the importance of a strong start:
"You're watching a horse race... True Believer trips, True Believer trips. And the chances of True Believers catching up to the rest of the pack are slim to none. Don't be True Believer. Don't trip out the gate."
— Michael Chernow [00:00]
This sets the stage for his core message: small, consistent actions can lead to significant, compounded results over time. Comparing these actions to financial compounding, he illustrates how daily efforts, though seemingly minor, accumulate to produce substantial outcomes.
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to Michael's evolving morning routine, highlighting how simplicity and consistency can enhance daily productivity and well-being. Over the past few months, Michael has streamlined his morning practices to focus on non-negotiable habits that feed his mental and physical health.
Key Components of His Routine:
Wake-Up Time:
Michael now allows himself an extra 30 to 45 minutes of sleep by waking up slightly later than his previous 5 AM schedule. This adjustment underscores the importance of adequate rest.
Hydration and Nutrition:
He starts the day with a "morning cocktail," a jug of water mixed with various supplements to kickstart his metabolism and energy levels.
Oral Care:
Inspired by Dr. Jonathan Levin, Michael has intensified his oral hygiene routine:
"I brush my teeth with an electric toothbrush for two minutes, I scrape my tongue, I floss, and then I rinse with a mouth rinse to set my pH in my mouth."
— Michael Chernow [05:00]
Skincare:
A consistent skincare regimen using products from Caldera Lab helps Michael feel refreshed and confident.
Prayer and Mindfulness:
Michael dedicates time to prayer, viewing it as a daily check-in with a higher power. This practice isn't tied to religious doctrine but serves as a source of hope and strength.
"Prayer is checking in with a power greater than myself that is essentially my hope rope."
— Michael Chernow [07:30]
Physical Exercise:
Incorporating 60 push-ups each morning, Michael challenges his body and boosts cardiovascular health. He follows this with stretching exercises like down dog and cat cow to ensure flexibility and reduce stress.
Affirmations and Positive Mindset:
Shifting his prayer focus, Michael now asks for the addition of positive attributes such as love, courage, and kindness, rather than seeking the removal of negative traits.
Michael shares a transformative change in his prayer routine that has deepened his daily practice:
"Instead of asking God to help remove certain things, ask God to add certain things, like please bring love and light, bring joy, bring courage, bring confidence, bring risk-taking, bring kindness, allow me to be of service."
— Michael Chernow [12:15]
This shift from a deficit-focused approach to one of abundance and growth has empowered him to cultivate positive habits and a resilient mindset.
A recurring theme in the episode is the importance of focusing on the present moment rather than dwelling on past mistakes. Michael reinforces this by encouraging listeners to embrace each day as a fresh start:
"Today is the fucking day. Today is the day. Yesterday is gone. Not a single human being or living thing has ever been able to go back to yesterday and live."
— Michael Chernow [18:45]
He emphasizes that while learning from the past is valuable, obsessing over it can drain energy and hinder future progress.
Consistency Over Intensity:
Small, manageable habits are more sustainable and can lead to significant long-term benefits compared to sporadic, intense efforts.
Simplify to Amplify:
Reducing the complexity of routines can make them easier to maintain, allowing for greater focus and effectiveness.
Mind-Body Connection:
Integrating physical exercise with mental practices like prayer can enhance overall well-being and productivity.
Positive Affirmations:
Focusing on adding positive qualities rather than removing negatives fosters a growth-oriented mindset.
Living in the Now:
Prioritizing the present moment ensures that energy is directed toward actionable steps rather than unchangeable past events.
On Habits:
"The decisions we make on a consistent basis truly define who we are as human beings."
— Michael Chernow [00:33]
On Morning Routines:
"Small actions, little things done on a consistent basis make big wins. It's just a fact."
— Michael Chernow [02:10]
On Prayer:
"Prayer has to do with checking in with a power greater than myself... it’s my hope rope."
— Michael Chernow [07:30]
On Starting the Day Right:
"Start right, start. Start strong. And you have complete control over that, and that's a fact."
— Michael Chernow [22:20]
In this insightful solo episode, Michael Chernow masterfully illustrates how small, deliberate actions can lead to significant, lasting change. By sharing his personal routines and the philosophies that underpin them, he provides listeners with practical strategies to enhance their own lives.
