This is Kentucky sports radio presented by Stockton mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Wednesday, November 27th. I am Matt Jones here kind of at Don Franklin in Glasgow in Lexi to Kentucky. You can give us a shout on the Clark's puppet shop, phone line 859-280-2287. Avision Auto Glass text machine is 772-774-5254. In this dis sponsored by the TJ Smith Law Office. You call TJ. He'll make them pay. We are in Lexington, but we are doing the Don Franklin Glasgow remote. No matter your situation, Don Franklin has the tools and experience ready for you. It's Don Franklin driven by family. We were supposed to be in Glasgow today. That's gotten put off now till a day in December, but we're still sort of with Don Franklin in Glasgow, metaphorically in our hearts. But we re. We had. We rescheduled a little bit because the holiday but still want to promote our good friends there. And you know, Ryan, it's like, it's. It's like we're in Glasgow. The only difference is no Gabe laying down the law. But otherwise it's the same.
Ryan Lemon
We always see Brandon Stockton down at the Glasgow. Don Franklin.
Matt Jones
That's right. He works there, doesn't he? That's right. I forgot about that. And Suzanne is there. Happy thanksgiving to Suzanne in Glasgow. Drew, good to see you. We're in the Lexington studio, which is a very weird. We're not here very often. And what's interesting, Drew, is I can see. I don't think I've ever seen this before. There's a camera in here where I can see Shannon in Louisville and he can see me. And it's like. It's almost like I'm a peeping tom in Shannon's studio right now. Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
What are you doing? We turn this thing off.
Matt Jones
I know. It's like, cover up Shannon. It's like, shannon, put your shirt on. There's. This is a professional building now.
Shannon The Dude
You know how I normally show up for work you can't see me every day.
Matt Jones
So, Drew, it's exciting. All of us here inside.
Drew Franklin
You were very excited when you sat down and Shannon's face was on the screen. I only see the back of the screen. So. Shannon, hello. I can't see you. I hope you're looking good over there. But Matt was thrilled that. That you're in the room with us.
Matt Jones
I just never get to see Shannon.
Ryan Lemon
Even when you guys are in the same Louisville studio, you can't see each other.
Matt Jones
I can't see him. And, like, who. This is technology. First of all, Billy's been holding from me this entire time. I could have. I've never known this existed until right now, actually. I'm going to take a picture so I can tweet out what it's like for me to see. Look at that. Looking at Shannon.
Shannon The Dude
We do the pre show like this.
Matt Jones
So the pre show has more technology than the regular show.
Shannon The Dude
You showed up in the studio. You could use it.
Matt Jones
That's true.
Ryan Lemon
I got a question.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
There's still like three other cameras in here.
Matt Jones
What are these?
Ryan Lemon
Four.
Matt Jones
Not you.
Ryan Lemon
It's pointing right at me. So who's looking at me?
Matt Jones
Nobody's. Nobody's looking at you. Leave him off. 859-280-2287. I'll get to see the names here, which means I can call on who I want, which means not Bob and Jamestown. And we can. We can go from there. He was the next to last call last night. Said that he was disappointed in the performance.
Drew Franklin
I'm surprised he didn't bring up the reds or just something off topic. But, you know, not the best way to end your show.
Matt Jones
Were you. Were you disappointed? The performance. Kentucky wins by 19 over Western. The good and the bad. All right. So good. You shoot not well. 8 for 29 from 3, which is just a little over 30%. You don't. You. You don't play well offensively and you still score 87 points. Good performances from Lamont Butler away and Andrew Carr. Car crease. It gives you some good minutes. The bad, I thought they struggled to get their shot a lot of the game. Amari Williams, don't put that one in the highlight reel. Even though he did almost have a double double. He did have six turnovers, five of them in the first half. And it just wasn't quite, you know, a ton of people at the game, Ryan, but not the greatest atmosphere. It just felt like the crowd never could exactly get into the game. But still a 19 point win.
Ryan Lemon
I wish they'd have called a few more fouls in the game.
Matt Jones
Oh my goodness, 49 fouls called.
Ryan Lemon
It was ugly. It was an ugly game to watch.
Matt Jones
No rhythm. Like every time we get going there'd be a foul.
Ryan Lemon
But you know, Kentucky found a way to win when they weren't playing their best. So I think if Pope drew it up, he probably would want a game like this before he goes into next week with Clemson and Gonzaga.
Matt Jones
Well, he said, I mean this is like a first round tournament game. And in some ways I think that's correct. I mean you would get a first round tournament game where maybe the building's not raucous and you don't play great, but this is just a grinded out first round win. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
And he mentioned the way they play defense is a lot like SEC teams. A lot of pressure, they're fouling a lot. They're really messing up all the things the UK does.
Matt Jones
Well, they're going to play. I said on the post game, the less talented teams in the sec, that's how they're going to play us. The Mississippi states, the Georgia's, the Texas A and M's or not Texas, they're pretty good. But South Carolina's like they're going to play us like Western did.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, in some ways they used to do that when we had freshmen too and the freshman weren't quite ready. Quite ready. This is a little different. But Pope seemed to think that'll help him in the long run. You know, it's frustrating at parts, but, you know, I think even you and I thought they were going to have a little bit of a comedown moment. Heck, I, if I can pat myself on the back, I missed the score prediction by like 2 points. So I'm not that disappointed and kind of thought this might be coming. Just a few things. Like Amari Williams, that was disappointing. That was a pretty bad first half. He was calling his own number a few too many times there and he was just turning the ball over every time he touched it.
Matt Jones
I just have to say, you know, we, we. I think we've said a couple times in the, in the shows prior, like what's, what is what has not gone right in the Pope area. And we're like, oh, there's nothing I, Amari Williams dribbling from the top of the key. I don't need that. Like, I get it, that like, it's nice to have a center out there who can lead, who can pass and all that. But just no, no, once again, when.
Ryan Lemon
He goes out, you put car at the 5, you kind of go small. That's a pretty efficient lineup.
Matt Jones
It does hurt you, though, when you do that rebounding. I mean, I think they can only. Like when. When Western had their guy, I guess, Baba Car. Fay in that. That didn't. The car at the center didn't work because he got all the rebounds.
Ryan Lemon
He did.
Matt Jones
But Amari Williams dribbling to the basket is not my.
Ryan Lemon
That's your number one option.
Matt Jones
It's not top 50 options. But when he's under the basket, rebounding, et cetera, I'm actually. I think he's. He's very. He's very effective defensively, but dribbling. I mean, he dribbles like Stanley from the office. He does. I mean, he dribbles and he only goes left. I mean, we have like, car can only go right and Amare can only go left. And so there is a sense that I think that's. That that hurts us a little bit.
Drew Franklin
He drew the big foul on Faye. They got him out when they were coming back a little bit because Faye was very good. The Rupp arena was very thrilled when he had to go to the bench.
Matt Jones
He was good that Amari drew that.
Drew Franklin
Drew that foul. They got him out.
Matt Jones
That reminded me of when I. I was sitting there thinking as I was watching Fay, his name is Babacar. And I was trying to think, I've heard that name. And then I remembered that at one point, I think Georgetown had on the same team a guy named Boubacar Al. Do you remember that? Oh, his name was Boubacar Al. God. Sham God.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And my personal favorite name maybe in college basketball history, Yaya Ja, which was J A, J A, J A. But it was pronounced Yaya. But then the last one was Ja. Do you not. Do you remember those players?
Ryan Lemon
God. Sham God. I remember him.
Matt Jones
He was really good. Yeah, but you don't remember Boubacar Hour Yaya.
Ryan Lemon
No, I don't remember those guys. Funny, they're all on the same team.
Matt Jones
I think they were all on the same Georgetown team. That's what I. What I remembered yesterday. Anything else stuck out to you from an otherwise, obviously we get to hang a banner. BBN Invitational champs.
Caller
Hang it.
Drew Franklin
Someone asked Jack Pilgrim. I don't know if they're from UK or what, but they were like, why are you all have this, like, effort to make BB an invitational thing? And I'm like, why aren't you celebrating it? It's on the schedule. You all created it. We didn't create it. We're just happy to Win it.
Matt Jones
And everybody was trying to steal Drew's joke. Shannon saying it should be the BB Invitational. Drew was the first one to come up with that last night on social media everybody was acting like they came up with it. Shannon, that was Drew's. Drew give Drew cred. BB Invitational was him.
Shannon The Dude
I like that. Now do we at least get a trophy like maybe like a little hay bale tossing trophy that Billy had.
Matt Jones
I like the Drew's. I liked again Drew's suggestion we hang it next to the Judds banner up there in the corner.
Drew Franklin
I stayed all night waiting for it to go up there. Jack to ask Kurusa about cutting down the nets and Gary said they're gonna wait for the big win in March or April but then it's great to win this one.
Matt Jones
Well it is. You don't want to lose the BB invitation. You don't. I hope they keep changing the names. It's had a lot of names over the years but a nice victory. It was a great night at college basketball. But it was also nice Ryan to sort of not have to worry about it. From our end we kind of took care of business and I never felt like there was a moment we were going to lose the game. Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
Even when Western cut it to six I think they had it made it. They had the six point and had the ball one time. I was never worried that they were going to lose that game. I mean like I said good teams find a way to win when you're not playing your best and they found a way to win last time.
Matt Jones
You did see though my one minor concern which is even take those moments where it was six, there's still not a give this guy the ball and he'll get a basket. Yeah, they just don't have that. They have to work for everything. Even. Even down 6 which would be the moment you go okay, give X person the ball and let's go get it. They just, they don't really have that guy. But they also can then make back to back threes with Kurt Krisa and get your lead from 8 to 15 or whatever.
Drew Franklin
I thought OA and Butler had a pretty good few tough finishes and they got fouled out. Went to the line. Now Butler could have shot a little better at the line but those two at least when the offense just crawled to nothing and they were standing around more than we've ever seen those two attacked and Car also I'll add him in. That's why they're your leading scores. But we saw them try to create as Best they could and they were good at drawing fouls. Just need to hit the free throws.
Matt Jones
Cars two best games have been arguably the two hardest. Yes, Duke and Western on the counter. To that, Jackson Robinson's two worst games have been arguably the two hardest. So I hope that's not. I hope at least on the Robinson side, Ryan, that's not something that continues as the season goes on because he has played his two worst games against the two best, better teams we've played.
Ryan Lemon
About Carr, I did hear Jack Given say during the broadcast that, you know, the other opponents, he's been more concerned about trying to get the off, get other people involved. But these two that are games when he got put to five, he's become more offensive minded, looking to take his shot. You know, it's clear that the way.
Matt Jones
To play Kentucky, this team is to try to be physical with him. Yeah, I think. And I think you're going to see more and more teams doing that against us. I mean, Duke did it some, but then Western did a lot. And I think Drew, that's going to be the. If you're kind of creating the map of how to play them, that's how you're going to play. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
And that's why when Pope says this was a good test, if there are any more of those, we'll take them. Because the sec, these guys are only going to get bigger and stronger playing that same style. And a guy like Robinson who hadn't handled it well so far. I hope that's not just how it's going to be because he did seem to shy away from the contact a little bit last night.
Matt Jones
On a completely different note, Shannon, I don't have a pass to this building.
Shannon The Dude
So how do you get in? You wait for Ryan and Drew.
Drew Franklin
Well, first of all, I can tell you what my view when I got to the building today, I will.
Matt Jones
I have. I had a pass and I quickly lost it and they just won't give me another one.
Shannon The Dude
You tried to take mine one day.
Matt Jones
Well, they won't give me another one to this building. They're just like, no. So, you know, that's hard because I do need to get into this building. So normally I have to sit in the parking garage and wait for someone to come get me. Well, today I got there before everybody else. So I just sat on the ground in P1 in the building. And Drew, you said, I'll come get you. And what did you see when you opened the elevator?
Drew Franklin
Well, I went to P2. I like to go down a floor I like to. Like to. Like to get down underground a little bit. So I was like, yeah, I'll just come up to P1. I'll grab you. Then we'll go up to our floor. Door swing open on P1. I just thought he might be standing there. I thought I might even if I go find him. No, he was sitting on the ground with a big, I think, McDonald's Diet Coke. Just kind of childlike, sitting there, waiting for someone to come.
Matt Jones
Waiting for somebody to get me. Now, the problem was before Drew Shannon, a random group of three people walking to work saw me. And one of them goes, Matt Jones. Which, if you think about that's got to be a weird site for that guy.
Shannon The Dude
Tough times. Yeah.
Matt Jones
Yeah. You're in the parking garage at work and you see the guy you listen to sitting on the ground outside drinking a Diet Coke. Time's tough, Matt. Like, is it. Is it hard? So I gotta get a pass into this building. Can we make that happen?
Ryan Lemon
I think there's probably people here that can make that happen for you.
Matt Jones
I feel like. I don't know, Shannon. I feel like Bobby Bones can get into his building.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, but Bobby Bones probably doesn't lose his pass either.
Matt Jones
He's probably did. I bet they'd give him another pass.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. I mean, is there anybody in that building other than you guys and Billy?
Matt Jones
No. I mean, there's like law firms and accountants.
Shannon The Dude
I know that. I mean, like, in. In the I heart part of the building is what.
Matt Jones
I see people. I don't know them, most of them, but I see them out there, and I feel like. But they have.
Shannon The Dude
You should go introduce yourself.
Ryan Lemon
You know, you're. You're. You pay every time, too, because the.
Matt Jones
Yes, I have to pay. I pay parking. Every. The parking's supposed to be free. I'm going to pay $10. I have to pay $10, like, every day.
Shannon The Dude
We can get you validated.
Matt Jones
Don't get validated. I don't know how that works. I don't even know who you would go to to get validated. But anyway. 859-28-0-2287. We are here at Don Franklin in Glasgow. No matter your situation, it's Don Franklin. There are a lot of Black Friday deals. Come check them out. See our dealers down the street over there.
Drew Franklin
Oh, wow.
Matt Jones
How you doing? Just buff it up. We'll be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. Oh, green jelly, right?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Surprised this Green jelly.
Shannon The Dude
You know this?
Matt Jones
I know. Listen, if it was popular in the 90s, I know. Green Jelly.
Ryan Lemon
How did you know this?
Matt Jones
I knew it.
Shannon The Dude
He knows. 90s.
Matt Jones
I know the 90s. Like when they do those shows on TV, that's like, I love the 90s. And they bring out. And you're like, who are these Raiders? Random people. I should be on it. I remember every pop culture moment from the 90s. I know the music, the movies. Give me the 90s. I got it.
Shannon The Dude
This is a deep cut.
Matt Jones
This is a deep cut.
Ryan Lemon
It is a really deep cut.
Matt Jones
Now, remembering the name Green Jelly, that's a little surprising that I was able to get that one. One correction. God shamed. God was on Providence. Georgetown also had Reuben. Boom Boom.
Ryan Lemon
What a great name.
Drew Franklin
A lot of fun names.
Matt Jones
Georgetown was good about having the. The great names. Don Franklin here. It's our Wednesday before. Our Wednesday before Thanksgiving show. UK and Western UK gets the victory. Mark Pope was. I think you wrote Drew after the game. He was throwing T shirts into the crowd.
Drew Franklin
Was. He walked out with a big basket. Someone from UK carrying even more behind him. And he was just. He was a human T shirt cannon. Which just added to people being excited for those radio shows. I know Cal drew great crowds too, but it just carried on. There are a lot of people staying. A lot of kids last night with school being out, a lot of kids be a younger crowd, but, yeah, they just keep adding to that.
Matt Jones
I walked outside. There were two kids smoking in my yard.
Shannon The Dude
Did you say, get off my lawn?
Matt Jones
Well, I didn't because I didn't want to be that guy. But I also felt like I didn't think they were 18, so I didn't feel like they should be smoking. But I also. Shannon didn't want to be the guy who's like, you know, that can harm your lungs.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So I just sort of.
Shannon The Dude
You can't go up and check their id?
Matt Jones
No, I wasn't gonna. I didn't know what to. But it was. They had UK gear on. They clearly been at the game. Yeah, I. They. They probably were 15 or 16 years old and they were like smoking in my lawn. And there was a part of me that was like, am I that guy now who not only is like, get off my lawn, but also, why are you smoking?
Shannon The Dude
You young and shouldn't be out there smoking.
Matt Jones
It was after the post game show too, though, so. Because they were. That I would argue they loitering. Oh, smoking. Loitering. And you know, you should have pressed charges. Trespassing. I had a lot of charges on him, but I let it go. I just walked back inside and did.
Ryan Lemon
The thing they maybe they've done it many many times because they knew nobody was ever going to catch him.
Matt Jones
Well, I. What? You're on notice now.
Shannon The Dude
Take their picture.
Matt Jones
Your picture is going to be taken. Jay. Go ahead, Jay.
Caller
Matt, first time, short time.
Matt Jones
What's going on?
Caller
I recently. Thank you. I recently married into a Wildcats family. So for the past three seasons I've been all in on the big blue nation. My wonderful wife Marion was born and raised in Richmond. We listen to your show all the time. And tomorrow is Marion's birthday. I was hoping you and the KSR crew could wish her a happy birthday. I know it mean a lot.
Matt Jones
Well, happy birthday Marion. I hope you have great turkey stuffing and whatever this man gets you for the birthday. It better be good.
Caller
Thank you so much.
Matt Jones
You're welcome.
Caller
Go big Blue.
Matt Jones
Go big Blue. There you go. I mean you got to get a good birthday. Pray I was interested watching last night. It feels like Kentucky has eight dudes, maybe seven dudes that they really count on because if you look at it the minutes for Colin Chandler, Ansley Almanor and even Garrison were were lower last night. It feels like they feel really good about 7, Garrison maybe 8 all Menor 9 and then I think there's a drop off to Chandler at 10. Do you agree with that?
Drew Franklin
The minutes were skewed more than I think they have been. Could be. Also Western was a little smaller. Your boy Almanor didn't check in till much later in the game. He normally has.
Matt Jones
I didn't know he played seven minutes.
Drew Franklin
As fast as Western played. I wonder the way he's built if he's not able to keep up. But yeah, it was interesting seeing some of the guys we've seen a lot of like Garrison and Almanor, even Kerr only played about 11 minutes and it.
Matt Jones
Was also in the plus minus. Interesting. Like if you were to say to people okay, who are your five best players? You probably would say in some order. Robinson, Butler, away car, Embraer. And if you look at the plus minus, let me read you the plus minus away plus 22. Butler plus 21. Robinson plus 19. Car plus 21, Brea plus 14. Then you go all the way down. Amari Williams plus 7 and the other guys all had negative kind of. It's almost like yesterday was like you see the tears of the players almost based on that.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, like we said when they weren't even weren't playing their best. Pope I like he kept the guys out there to try to work through some of this. Like I said, I think he probably was happy they had a game. They had to struggle a little bit going into next week.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, OA and Robinson both played 33 minutes. I think they're going to probably be the guys most of the year that play.
Ryan Lemon
I agree with that.
Matt Jones
I think O and Robinson are like the rocks to them and they're going to be the dudes that are in there the vast majority of the time. Corey. What's up, Corey?
Caller
Hey, Matt. First time, long time.
Matt Jones
Who are. What's up?
Caller
I tweeted you back in the summer. I had a pennant with Dan Issel and Louis Dampier and Adolf Rupp signature on it.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Caller
And I actually thought you were going to be at the bar today. We stopped by there, but I dropped the pendant off there. You said you were going to get it hung and hanging in the bar.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's. I would love to do that. I'm sorry we're not there, but I will. We will definitely get. That's Ryan Lemon's job. He does the bar hangings. So we will make sure that he. He takes care of it and we'll put it up. That's a very nice gift for you. From you.
Caller
Yeah. And like I said, I left it with the bar manager there this morning. She had it. So go big blue.
Matt Jones
All right. Go big blue. That was very. It's very nice, I would say. What do you think, Ryan? 75% of the stuff at the bar is fan donated.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, absolutely. Yeah.
Matt Jones
And one day when the restaurant closes, it's going to be such a great thing for Ryan to get their. All the people their stuff back.
Ryan Lemon
I remember we had a list.
Drew Franklin
We didn't have a list.
Matt Jones
You have a list.
Ryan Lemon
Maria and I had a list.
Drew Franklin
Don't pull Maria into this.
Matt Jones
Maria logged it and there's no. There's no log. We don't have a computer system. Like you are in charge. You were in charge. It's your big part of the bar is making sure that we. You to keep track of the stuff.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So don't put. Don't pass this. Maria is not even here. Maria works for on three.
Ryan Lemon
Well, at the time she was with us. And I gotta say I've not seen that list since 2018.
Drew Franklin
2018.
Matt Jones
That.
Drew Franklin
That means the list didn't live long at all.
Matt Jones
Restaurant opened in 2018. So what did you do in the six years in between?
Ryan Lemon
I gave the list to Maria.
Matt Jones
No, you don't.
Drew Franklin
We're not throwing again.
Matt Jones
This is not Maria and it's not Maria. Tostine. It's not Maria Montgomery. It's not my Maria. It's no Maria. You are the one that has the list.
Ryan Lemon
I do not have that list. And I have no idea where the list is.
Matt Jones
So those of you that donated your stuff, if we ever close the place down, Ryan Lemon in Masterson station. Look for the howling dogs in the smoldering fireplace. Drew. And that will be where your stuff.
Ryan Lemon
Is set up a little flea market out on the sidewalk.
Drew Franklin
We're not selling it.
Matt Jones
It's not our stuff.
Drew Franklin
We'll go honor system when they pick it up.
Matt Jones
All right.
Drew Franklin
Well, I can't believe you're pulling Maria poor.
Matt Jones
It's Thanksgiving. Maria's sitting at home doing nothing and you're pouring her into this.
Ryan Lemon
I apologize, Maria.
Matt Jones
2287. We'll be right back. KSR, don't you know? Personal injury attorney. Call TJ. He'll make them pay.
Shannon The Dude
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Great song, Shannon.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. Brooks and Dunn.
Matt Jones
Brooks and done. How many hits Brooks and Dunn had?
Shannon The Dude
20, probably.
Matt Jones
Yeah, 25. I'm serious. Like, I can't think of a group with just more quantity of big songs since 1990. I mean, what's probably them and Garth.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
With the most quantity of hits.
Shannon The Dude
They almost have as many hits as Bob and Jamestown has calls like it's close. It's not quite there, but it's close.
Matt Jones
It's getting there, right? 592-80-2287 if you're at Don Franklin, the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 High country, up to $20,000 off select 2024 Shelby Chevy Silverado models at Don Franklin Glasgow 27 dealerships around the state. 859-280-2287 what about Danny Hurley, Drew? What's wrong with that dude? Psychopath need to be committed some.
Drew Franklin
Something's a little off up there. And I mentioned this on pregame show, but after he had the game two nights ago, it's like ESPN said, zoom in on his face every chance you get in this game. But I felt like most of that game they were showing him after he.
Matt Jones
Had that freak out though two nights ago, wouldn't you think he would have tried to be on better behavior the next night?
Drew Franklin
Can't help himself.
Matt Jones
I don't think he can. Which I think is actually kind of scary. I mean that video, as much as he freaked out and got that awful technical in the first game, I actually think the second video yesterday during the loss to Colorado is almost more troubling because he seemed like a person out of conf.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I mean, if that dude, whoever his assistant was, hadn't been there and then he went off on the assistant. If you read his lips, he's like, you better not tell me. Blankety. Blankety Blank. You know, I'm not trying to play pop psychologist, but dude was out of control, Ryan. And he's in Maui. He's in Maui. Come on. You're in Maui.
Ryan Lemon
The first, the first night when he lost these stuff, you'd think at that point somebody needs his wife name, have to be a staff member. Somebody say, hey man, it's just November.
Matt Jones
You've won back to back titles.
Ryan Lemon
You're Maui. It's November, it's. It's okay. There's a lot of basketball left this season. But then the very next night he loses his stuff again.
Matt Jones
I mean, they're playing for seventh place today against Dayton.
Drew Franklin
I love that. Say it again.
Matt Jones
Playing for seventh place against Dayton, loses to Memphis and Colorado. I mean they were expecting to play, probably play like Michigan State and then Iowa State or Auburn. They're going to be playing. Their three games are going to be Memphis, Colorado and Dayton. And they're going to be at best one and two. Like that's, that's a pretty awful performance by the back to back defending champion.
Drew Franklin
It's a short sample, small sample size so far, but it's looking like they might be taking a little step down. Even the Mahaney guy, the guy, the portal that, you know, they were looking at Brea and Mahaney at the same time. Looks like Kentucky might have won out on that deal.
Matt Jones
He hasn't looked good at all.
Drew Franklin
But I was thinking when he was losing on everyone like I imagined him if he had been Kentucky's coach. Because let's all admit everybody wanted him. When Mitch flew up there, for sure, if he were at like dinner and some Kentucky fan bothered him, would he like snap on fans?
Matt Jones
If any inconvenience, it wouldn't have gone well here, right? Like that. He couldn't have done that here.
Ryan Lemon
Could not have done that here. To sit in that chair. You got to understand what it means to deal with the fans, the alumni. I mean, it's because it means so much to all of us. You can't do.
Matt Jones
Can you imagine him and Mitch?
Drew Franklin
No. And it's just such a pressure cooker here. If he can't handle Maui with, you know, just.
Matt Jones
I have something I'd like to say.
Drew Franklin
How about it?
Ryan Lemon
Just us, just us boys here be Bahamas mad.
Drew Franklin
He can't Be Maui Dan, you be Bahamas.
Matt Jones
Have a really good story about this exact thing, but I don't really think.
Ryan Lemon
It'S the day before Thanksgiving.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
Come on, Latron, just say it.
Drew Franklin
I'm the devil on you.
Ryan Lemon
You can change the names to protect the innocent.
Matt Jones
There's no way to. Let's just say that he and Mitch would not have gotten along. And I think. What's the best way for me to put it? I think Mitch knew that. And I think even though they wanted him and they went after him, they had to. I think there was a sense of we would have liked to have had him. But also maybe a little bit of a sigh of relief when he said no.
Ryan Lemon
I get that.
Matt Jones
Like, I just dealt with this for a long time.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I can't imagine having to switch to that.
Ryan Lemon
Which would have been, I think maybe a lot of the same in that.
Matt Jones
I think it would have been. I would see. Okay, again, difference between Cal, early years, end of years. I think end of year's Cal and Hurley, you would have had the same arrogance and the same. I think the. They're both very arrogant. I think Hurley is more belligerent. Cal wasn't belligerent like that.
Ryan Lemon
No.
Matt Jones
But also Cal was much more like indifferent. Slash wouldn't like. I think you could still get Hurley to meet with boosters and stuff. Does that make sense?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So it was two different difficult traits. Hurley, belligerent. Cal wasn't belligerent. But Cal was also like, I'm not doing anything, so deal with it.
Drew Franklin
And now they have Pope whistling you are my Sunshine down the hallway and dropping biscuits in every office.
Matt Jones
He literally is like, baking cookies for.
Ryan Lemon
People, throwing T shirts out to everybody.
Matt Jones
I mean, can you imagine, like, just think about the difference just in working day to day personality between those two guys.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, it's.
Matt Jones
It's kind of unbelievable. The other. My other question about Maui. Why do they make everyone wear those shirts?
Drew Franklin
Do they make them or you just do people feeling it?
Shannon The Dude
I think that's voluntary.
Matt Jones
But do people know why? Like, do they want everyone that comes to wear those shirts?
Drew Franklin
Like, I own several, so I can't hate.
Matt Jones
But if we had the Kentucky Invitational, I mean, we did have the invitation, but let's say we had a Kentucky Invitational. The eight teams Kate came to during Thanksgiving week and it was a celebration of Kentucky, would we want all the coaches to show up in overalls?
Ryan Lemon
No.
Shannon The Dude
No checkerboards. Maybe overalls.
Matt Jones
We would not want them to come over here and go, yeehaw. We would just want them right I. There. There has to be a part of people in Hawaii that are like, can you. Like, we don't wear these shirts every day. Like, the people in Maui just live there. They don't walk around in those shirts. Right.
Drew Franklin
I don't know. Maybe I've never been. I hope we have the opportunity one year.
Matt Jones
I just don't. I just. I don't think Kentuckians would want, if it was the Kentucky Invitational, for everybody to show up in a cowboy hat and overalls and go like, yeah, it's Biden and playing the banjo. Like, there comes a point, I don't know, that people in Maui. Do they like that.
Ryan Lemon
It has been something they've done going back to the 80s where the coaches wear these.
Matt Jones
Understand? But the people there like that.
Ryan Lemon
I don't know.
Matt Jones
I've been.
Ryan Lemon
Yes, you've been.
Matt Jones
And everyone that goes wears it.
Ryan Lemon
Did you wear one of the shirts?
Matt Jones
Maybe. But if you go out on the street, the average person walking down the street's not walking around in a shirt like that.
Ryan Lemon
But if you're a tourist or a guest of the island.
Matt Jones
I know, but I just. I don't know. I think we're trying to be so native that we become un. Like, they're wearing. People in Hawaii wear the same clothes we do.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. Like, New Yorkers aren't walking around with an I Love New York shirt.
Matt Jones
No, exactly. That's exactly right. I think. I just think we go. I think we go too far when we're trying to do the whole Hawaii thing. Jake. Go ahead, Jake.
Jake
Guys, I'm driving from Chicago to Whitley county now to pick up my grandma for Thanksgiving.
Matt Jones
Oh, that's nice.
Jake
Yeah, I just want to. I just want to make a couple quick points. First thing is, I met up with you guys in Chicago around this time last year. We hung out at the sportsbook at the DraftKings.
Matt Jones
That was a lot of fun. Yeah, that was wild.
Jake
Yeah, that place was packed, and it was awesome. Everyone should go there, pay one back.
Matt Jones
That night it was really just us, but we won all the prizes.
Shannon The Dude
That's right.
Matt Jones
Nice. So that's good.
Drew Franklin
I went out.
Jake
Yeah, we did go out, Drew. But not talking about that right now. I was thinking about the year since then, you guys about to hit on your next road trip and how much has happened, and especially in the Kentucky ether. And I know that you guys have been through a lot. I just want to say, with Thanksgiving tomorrow, looking back at all the things I'm so thankful for, you guys and always being, you know, some part of my everyday. And I can tell it's been a tough year for everybody. And I remember eight years ago listening to the first time and first time I listened was when Trump got elect the first time. And that's just been so long since that.
Matt Jones
Eight years later, right back in the same spot. That's right. Well, I appreciate the call. You know, we did do this trip last year. We went up that way and we're in Chicago. And it was a different time that time. I mean, it was a different. I remember specifically on that trip we lost to UNC Wilmington to start that trip. If you remember, we. We had just left and we got to Indiana and we lost to UNC Wilmington. And then I don't know, did we lose again on that trip to someone?
Ryan Lemon
We won the game and Philadelphia, we.
Matt Jones
Went to the game against Penn, but we lost to UNC Wilmington. And in the sort of. That was the moment that you kind of were like, I don't know if this year is going to be any better. And it is amazing, Drew, how far it's come since then. I mean, just the universal positivity. There's a part of me, There was a guy that called last night on the Post game show who talked about how the last few years had become tedious and this year is a year filled with joy. And I really liked that description.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I don't think anyone, even the most optimistic person, could have seen the turnaround we've had in such a short amount of time. I think it's ridiculous. Last night people were so mad online that Kentucky was up by eight in the first half. And I'm thinking we used to be tied down at halftime and now we're complaining that Western is playing us within 12 at halftime or whatever it was.
Matt Jones
And people were going crazy. Like when you can score and you don't slow it down, we cannot play well and still score 87 points.
Ryan Lemon
You know what you said about that? The guy that caught in last night, I think he dried a lot of fans. Last couple of years have become. We kind of guarded our heart because we were afraid we were going to get hurt again. That's gone now. Now the joy is back. You know, we're not afraid we're going to play bad and be trailing at halftime to somebody we should be blowing out.
Matt Jones
Joy to the world. I'm trying to remember the next line. Joy to the world the Lord has come Let earth receive her king Let.
Ryan Lemon
Every heart prepare him room Let heaven and nature sing.
Matt Jones

I listen on podcast. I've missed Shannon's music. After listening today, I. We all miss it. We all wish. By the way, ESPN now has that rule too.
Drew Franklin
Shannon.
Shannon The Dude
Oh, really?
Matt Jones
No music in the podcast? Yeah. What a bummer. Music companies have all come and put their iron fists down and so hopefully it gets changed one day, but it's not our fault.
Ryan Lemon
I have an update for you on something.
Matt Jones
What?
Ryan Lemon
Maria has an Excel document with around 40 to 50 names on it.
Matt Jones
Yeah, see, that's good. What about the one since then? Have you been keeping track of it since then?
Ryan Lemon
We'll work on that.
Drew Franklin
Efforting.
Matt Jones
So at least keep track of this guy's pennant. Will you do that?
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew Franklin
If I were Maria, I wouldn't have told you that. After the way you talked about her, I would have kept that information.
Matt Jones
Threw her under the bus. All right. I have something that two things I want you to see. First of all, you know I like Ryan European soccer.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, yes, you do.
Matt Jones
I like a little European soccer. The Champions League.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Matt Jones
Play again today. I enjoy it. You know, I have random hoodies of Champions League of European teams. I have at Atlanta right now, the Italian team right here. This was actually interesting enough the team that was playing when the COVID Vac. The COVID virus first spread. You remember that?
Ryan Lemon
Oh, really?
Matt Jones
First spread at a European soccer game.
Ryan Lemon
That was the team.
Matt Jones
This was one of the teams playing. Okay, so two things. One, there's a team that's on a huge upset run in the Champions League. It's called Brest B R E S T. It's a French team. Thank you. Shannon is reading where I'm going with this. They a French team, not one of the better French teams. Had a surprise year last year. Got in the Champions League and are having a surprise run this year. There's a clip of about four minutes long. I'm not going to play it, but these announcers for CBS Sports that does the Champions League, they're kind of funny. One of them is, do you remember Thierry Henry, who played for France? And there's these other guys. I don't know who they are, but they start talking about the team Breast and Shannon. I'm just going to tell you, you need to find the clip. They intentionally do all these double entendres and I have to give them credit. They probably should win an Emmy for it. It's about four minutes yesterday. Looking for it online. It's gone viral. You'll see it. As I was watching it, I was like, I cannot believe these guys are getting away with this. It was three dudes and a woman. The woman. The woman was the one leading it on. Oh, she was like. She was. She was the funniest person involved. You gotta give her credit.
Shannon The Dude
If it was just two dudes up there, it was weird.
Matt Jones
If it was all dudes, you couldn't do it. Right?
Shannon The Dude
But she couldn't do it. She makes it okay.
Matt Jones
She made it to where you could do it. But that's not what I want to talk about. There's a team called Fianord. I have a hoodie of Fianord. I wore it for fade this once, remember? I bet on them during a fade this episode. Fear Nord is this team. I believe they're in Holland. They're down three nothing to Man City. 15 minutes to go at Man City. Seems like it's over, over, right? Man City, one of the best teams in the world. Vienna or this little team that Matt has a hoodie from. But they stink. But then they score to make it 3 1. Okay, now there's eight minutes to go.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Then they do this wild kick. It goes off a guy's chest. It's three to two. Oh, the announcer, Shannon. They're so poetic in European soccer. They're like an exceptional moment in the history of mankind. Can little fuck the Giants from Man City? And I'm like, yeah, I'm watching all in. What's going to happen? What is F going to do? And then F, with a minute left ties it up.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, my.
Matt Jones
The handful of fans go crazy. All right. People are going nuts. It's a wild scene. If you have Paramount plus, you can go watch it at the end. It's. It was really. It was poetry. It's what I love about sports. Little feanord Big Man City. But that's not why I brought this up. Man City has a coach named Pep. Do you know who Pep is?
Ryan Lemon
No idea.
Matt Jones
He's just a coach named Pep. Bald guy named Pep. Very handsome. All these European coaches dress like male models, Drew. You know what I mean?
Drew Franklin
Like you only get hired by how you look.
Matt Jones
Like you can't be a manager in Europe unless you are a middle aged dilf, as the kids would say. Right, Pep? Shaved head. Bald. You watch him. Every time Fiannoid scores, he goes crazier and his head gets redder. And at some point, I don't know when it was, he starts taking his hands and he digs them into his head. And you sit there and you go, that looks like that would hurt. But you don't think anything about it. I want you to look up a picture of him. I tweeted it out in the post match interview. And look at right now. Look it up, guys. Look at his head. He has. He is bleeding from the crown of his nose and his head looks insane. And it was his own fingers that did it. You think Danny Hurley's out of control? I'm looking at. Look at his head. He did that to himself.
Ryan Lemon
My goodness.
Drew Franklin
During the game, a man needs a helmet. If he can't take the action. Has to rip off his own skull.
Matt Jones
He literally digs his hands. Shannon, look at that.
Shannon The Dude
His nose is bleeding.
Matt Jones
His. He caused himself to have a bloody nose.
Shannon The Dude
He did a blade job on the side.
Matt Jones
He did.
Shannon The Dude
He's like Ric Flair.
Ryan Lemon
You.
Matt Jones
We think Danny Hurley needs some help.
Ryan Lemon
This guy needs some help.
Matt Jones
Pep.
Ryan Lemon
Pep.
Matt Jones
Pep. So if you get some chance tonight, you have nothing to do. Go to Paramount plus pull up the F man City game. Fast forward it to the 75 minute mark and just watch the last 15 minutes. It's theater. And watch Pep impale himself. You think our coaches care? Danny Hurley ain't got nothing on Pep.
Drew Franklin
I wonder if we have any Kentucky fans that get into a game at home on the couch and have done anything like that.
Matt Jones
Don't. That's scary looking. Danny. Go ahead. Danny.
Caller
Hey, sad news from Glasgow.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Caller
Brandon Stockton passed away this year. Yeah.
Matt Jones
Who?
Ryan Lemon
You said Brandon Stockton.
Caller
Brandon Stockton.
Matt Jones
Are you sure? Wait a minute. Is that right?
Caller
Yes.
Matt Jones
When did that happen?
Caller
Oh, back earlier in the year. He's been gone for, I don't know, five, six, seven months. Anyway. Yeah, I'm not first time caller.
Matt Jones
Well, okay. Who. All right. Is that true?
Drew Franklin
I don't.
Caller
Yes.
Matt Jones
All right. I don't know about that.
Caller
Maybe somebody calling farm it, but.
Matt Jones
Well, I mean, I'm not trying to. I'm not trying to push it. Yeah, I mean, we would hope that.
Drew Franklin
You would have it confirmed if you were gonna.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
All right, well, we think we'd have heard that. We'd find it online. Can't even find it.
Drew Franklin
He posted on Facebook 45 minutes ago, so I don't think that's.
Matt Jones
Sorry. Just posted on Facebook. Well, then he hung up.
Ryan Lemon
Wow.
Drew Franklin
Talk about a lot of good for Aaron Fleener. Loves Brandon. I feel like we would know if that happened.
Matt Jones
Well, so if he posted on Facebook, I think that means it's probably not true. Brandon Stockton.
Ryan Lemon
Give us a call.
Matt Jones
Sorry.
Ryan Lemon
I got his phone number. I don't want to call him.
Matt Jones
Would you call him during the break? All right.
Shannon The Dude
Rest in peace or rest in life, whichever side you're on.
Matt Jones
We'll take a break. Right back. It's ksr.
