This is Doug Gottlieb from All Ball with Doug Gottlieb. Listen, I'm gonna get serious for a minute. The hate in our country is getting out of control. In fact, it's sadly at an all time high. But it's gonna take all of us to stop it. I mean, we're all on the same team in this country. So let's take a break from our hate so our team can regroup. We need to take a time out against hate. Myron Metcalf, not Matt Jones filling in here on this Merry Monday as Matt and company make their way across the country, flying in from Seattle after that wild Kentucky game. So my goodness, that's a what a comeback for the ages, as they say. Just, just one of those spectacular games. And we've had a few of them across college basketball. Kentucky, North Carolina was very good. Obviously some good champions, classic games. I was in Vegas for Kansas, Duke and that thrilling game. I mean we've just had some amazing games in the first month or so of college basketball. And I hope that means, Billy, that we're going to get a great tournament. Right? Like I hope that's where we're all headed for a great NCAA tournament, that this will continue through March.
Billy
Oh yeah. No, I, you know, I like you. We talked about in the first hour. It's pretty wide open, so you got to think a lot of people are going to be at play a lot of SEC teams as well. Myron, I do want to ask you, are you a superstitious person? Because the KSR guys, they tried to break the KSR curse over this road trip. They, they went to a witch and she told them that they needed to burn a candle for 30 to 45 minutes. And then as long as they didn't blow out the flame, it was going to break the curse. And then which the Cats ended up beating Gonzaga. Do you think that played a factor in the Cats getting the win over the weekend?
Myron Metcalf
I don't know. I did see the video. Black folks don't do all that. I'm not. Yeah, we don't know. We don't do all that. You go to a witch now.
Billy
I don't burn sage, your candles or anything like that.
Myron Metcalf
I ain't in. I ain't involved in none of that. I could. Had I been on the trip, I wouldn't have gone in. Like, I just. I don't want any part of.
Billy
You don't want to mess with that kind of stuff.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, for me, that stuff can be real, man. Like, I don't, you know, believe what you want to believe. I just don't get involved. But I saw that they did that, and I don't know, is that going to be the tradition now? They got to go to a witch or somebody. A sage. What do they call. I don't know what they call them to break the curse every game. I don't know about that. But now black. Black folks don't do all that stuff. I ain't doing all that. But I am somewhat superstitious, but I'm not Ouija board superstitious. I don't get involved in that.
Billy
Yeah, I don't blame you. I'm not going to New Orleans and getting the voodoo dolls out.
Myron Metcalf
And I don't play with that stuff. No, I don't play with that stuff. I was watching. I remember. You know what messed me up, if I'm being honest with it? What's that messed me up was I was watching WWE wrestling, and the Undertaker was in the ring, and Papa Shango came out and he had, like, his. It was like a voodoo dial thing or something like that. And he starts doing it, and Undertaker starts vomiting in the ring like he had put a curse on him. Right. And I was a big Undertaker fan. Like, to me, he was, like, invincible. And then Papa Shango was. Was it Papa Shangha? Or maybe it was Kamala. I don't remember what it might have been. Kamala is, like, putting a curse on him and he starts vomiting. And I was like, yeah, I don't know what that is, but I don't want any part of it. So.
Billy
Sounds like it stuck with you since then.
Myron Metcalf
It did, yeah. Oh, it did. It did. Let me tell you something else that stuck with me, and I want to get to the playoff at some point and some more calls. I went to the Waffles during the Champions Classic, and I tweeted about it, and I think a lot of people saw it, but. And even the Waffle House itself tweeted at me.
Billy
Oh, really?
Myron Metcalf
Which was. Which was amazing. Yeah, the Waffle House tweeted at me. And listen, I didn't book a hotel Next to the Waffle House. Because, you know, I knew. Like, I didn't know it was next to the Waffles. I just booked a hotel near the arena. And then. And then my Uber pulls up, Billy. And I'm like, wait a minute, what is that around the corner? That is a Waffle House, like, next door, right? And again, all you spoiled Waffle House people, you all don't feel what I feel because it's there for you. The closest Waffle House. For me, seven hours away. But I get up the next morning, I go to Waffle House. Probably there about 8:00, Billy, you know what I mean?
Billy
Early.
Myron Metcalf
I just got a breakfast, you know, I figured, okay, good night's rest. Get up, go to Waffles.
Billy
Sure.
Myron Metcalf
I come into Waffle House. All true story. I sit down and I can already tell that they know I'm not a Waffle House person. Because I'm looking at the menu and she's like, what do you want? And everybody around me knew what they wanted. Like, they all called out, you know what I mean? Whatever, y'all. Waffle House, you know. You know, smothered bacon, you know, Waffle. I don't know what y'all do. I don't. Clearly, I hadn't been to the seminar. And she knew it, you know what I mean? Because I was like, hmm, can you tell me about this? Can you tell me about. I don't think she liked that. I don't think she liked it. I don't think. Asking questions. Yeah, I think I was asking too many questions. I really do. I put. I put Jodeci on the jukebox. You know, I put some old. Some.
Billy
Some 90s R&B, the vibes, right?
Myron Metcalf
Maybe that also rubbed people around the wrong way. But she came back to me, and I still wasn't ready to order. So I don't think. I think she was ready to say, sir, go back to wherever you're from, because we don't do all this guessing at Waffle House. Finally, I ordered, you know what I mean? Because I was just so caught up in the moment, Billy. I was just so emotional to be there. So I finally picked my meal, and then all of a sudden, I'm sitting down at the counter, and, you know, this woman walks. Walks in, you know, someone who may be having some struggles. They give her some coffee, and she comes in and she sits down. And all of a sudden, man, I hear something hit the ground so hard, and this woman had knocked all the napkins off the table, and they're just everywhere. And someone goes, not again, Tina. Right? So I'm thinking in my mind, not again. This, this is a recurring thing, all right? So mind you, I'm new to Waffle House. I haven't been here enough. I don't know. I've mostly just seen the videos. Somebody goes, all right, go and get Big Larry. Who is Big Larry, Billy? I don't know. But now I'm starting to wonder, did I come to Waffle House at the wrong time? Like, maybe I love Waffle House, but I don't know if I'm ready for Waffle house. Because it's 8 o'clock in the morning. All of a sudden, Big Larry is the manager. Big Larry comes out and he goes, tina, get up. Get out of here. You do this every morning? Every morning. This is just what y'all do. Tina sits down and knocks all the napkins off the table. And then you just come out and go get Big Larry. He says, get up. So now Big Larry and Tina, I kid you not, are in the corner of this Waffle House screaming at each other. Top of their lungs, mind you. I don't even have my waffle yet, but I'm sitting here, Jodeci on the jukebox, waiting to get my meal, and I'm going. Do I leave? You know what I mean? Like, maybe I wasn't prepared to be at the Waffle House. Like, maybe this is not something that I truly understood was going to happen. At 8 o'clock in the morning, they are screaming at each other in the corner. And I think people can tell Billy that I'm sitting there and I'm like, you know what? He's not from here. I looked a little rattled, I think, you know what I mean? Like, I'm sort of like looking around, wondering if anybody else is rattled in the other corner of the Waf house. True story, 100%. And maybe these people were there and they're listening. There was a Kentucky couple there and they got, you know, maybe older couple, maybe in the early 60s, late 50s, and they got on their Kentucky gear the morning of the game, and I kid you not, as Tina and Big Larry are screaming at each other in the corner, and I'm sitting here rattled, wondering maybe I don't belong at Waffle House. Maybe I didn't go to the orientation before I came and I need to do that. This guy in the Kentucky gear is like, can I get some more coffee? He. He's not disturbed at all, Billy. Like, this is just a normal Tuesday for him. Now, this does not rattle him at all. And I'm going, wait a minute. You just ordering coffee as Tina and Big Larry are screaming at each other in this corner. And that's when I realized, Billy, that you can love the Waffle House, but you may not be ready for Waffle House. And I didn't understand that until my trip to Atlanta. I do love Waffle House. I do not know if I'm ready for Waffle House. And I think that, to me, it was my lesson on that trip to Atlanta for the Champions Classic, because, you know, I was like, do I just leave? Do I just put my money on the counter and walk out? Because this is. This is every day. And I don't know, between me taking so long to order Jodeci on the jukebox, the argument in the corner, I don't know if they'll have me back, Billy. Like, I don't know if they want me back because they could tell I was an outsider. And I don't know if they want that many outsiders at wapa.
Billy
Yeah. Honestly, it sounds like the tamest Waffle House experience I've heard of.
Myron Metcalf
That's what I said.
Billy
I mean, that is just what you've got to expect when you go into these situations. Normally, I'm there at, like, 2, 3am so the fact that you were there at 8am I'm sure it's a different crowd, but you just. You got to go in expecting that they have a guy named Big Larry in the back that's going to come out and handle any situation that needs to be handled. It's just. That's part of the Waffle House experience. And I can understand how you were, you know, taken aback because you didn't expect the Waffle House to be right next to your hotel. It was a magical experience for you that ended up being a. It was a. It's like the cold plunge of realizing what a Waffle House actually is.
Myron Metcalf
It's like being invited to a toxic family's Thanksgiving. You ever had that happen?
Billy
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
Somebody invites you over for a holiday, are you like, oh, great, I'm a sit down, watch the game, hang out. And then there's, like, two couples screaming at each other in the middle of dinner, and you're like, I don't know that I should be here. That's how it felt to me, Billy. And the fact that Big Larry came out and said, you do this every day. So you mean to tell me Tina sits down, gets her coffee, and just smashes the napkin thing onto the Floor every single day.
Billy
Every day.
Myron Metcalf
It's just the norm. Nobody told me that either, Billy. How come nobody told me when I sat down? Listen, there's about to be a situation, okay? And I don't know how you're built. I don't know if you've been to the Waffle House enough, but there's about to be a situation because Tina is about to knock these napkins off the table.
Billy
This ain't a hobby for Tina, Myron. I mean, this is what she does.
Myron Metcalf
Who's giving her napkins, Billy? Can I ask you that question? If it's happening every day, stop giving her napkins. Right. That should solve it. But her and Big Larry, I kid you not. And if anybody was there, they can verify, are screaming at each other in the corner of this wildfire house. The Kentucky couple is like, hey, when you get a chance, let me get some coffee. They weren't, they weren't rattled at all, Billy. The Kentucky couple that was in the back, that was just normal for them. And I was the one sitting there like, you know what? Maybe there's more I need to learn before I go to Waffle House. Because if this is 8am Then the 1am I'm not. That's not for me.
Billy
Oh, yeah, there's, there's fist fights right next to the booth in which you're eating in. I mean, it's that, that is what Waffle House is. But I hope you're not deterred. I hope you, you try again and continue on at the Waffle Houses when you're near one.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, you all just didn't tell me the full story, so I kind of blame people. I know you all would hint at, hint at stuff like this, but I didn't realize that the level of normalcy for you all was like Tina knocking napkins on the floor and Big Larry screaming at her. Nobody left, Billy. Nobody. Oh, yeah, they're there for the Midwest. In the Midwest. They would close the restaurant down like in the Midwest. They would. They would say, everybody out. Close the doors. We're going to sort this out. We will reopen at about 2:00. Like, that's what would have happened in the Midwest. They didn't close anything at the Waffle House. So I learned a lot. I learned a lot and it was a good lesson.
Billy
But yeah, just make sure you have that order ready next time. It can't have you going back and forth with the waitress about what you should get. That's definitely. We can spot you from a mile.
Myron Metcalf
Away at that point that she knew. She knew because. And I think I said, let me see. I think that's what I said. And she looked at me like, you're wasting space. Like, nobody comes in here and doesn't know what they want, you know? And then. And then I did this, too, Billy. All true story. I ordered. I don't remember what the combo is. What's. Hey, what's that. What's that thing where you get the eggs, the toast, All Star Special and then a waffle. Okay. The All Star Special. Okay. I ultimately ordered that. So she brings the eggs, the grits, the toast. Right. And then I go, okay, yeah. You know, And I'm polite, you know, when you get a chance. The waffle. As well as if she didn't know that the waffle was a part of the All Star special. So then I get another look. Like, why is this person sitting at my counter? Like, you think out of all the All Star specials I've served in my life, that I'm gonna forget the waffle? So I feel like I don't know how this happened. Billy. I gotta be honest with you. I somehow got a C minus at Waffle House. I don't know how it happened, but I felt like overall, like they were grading me, and I ended up with a C minus. And just, you know, that's difficult.
Billy
I feel. I feel like I'm there and I. And I'm livid for her. I mean, honestly, you need to be prepared with your. With your order next time. Myron. That is. It's the one thing.
Myron Metcalf
And I asked. I want. I said, the waffle when you get a chance. As if she didn't know.
Billy
It comes usually a little after. Yeah. I mean, it takes a little longer than most of the stuff. Yeah. It's just. You'll pick it up the more that you go to, the more you go to.
Myron Metcalf
But I thought maybe she forgot the waffle. And she looked at me like, how dare you? How dare you come in here with your house.
Billy
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
And think that I forgot the waffle. It just. It wasn't a good overall look for Midwest people. And I'm worried because I just wonder, like, are there Midwest people being blocked from that Waffle House because of me? You know what I mean? Like, are other people coming into that? Almost like, you know, that episode with the soup guy, you know, no soup for you. Is that middle Midwest people now at Waffles because of my behavior? I hope they don't take it out on them, Billy.
Billy
Well, probably.
Myron Metcalf
I hope I get Another chance.
Billy
I mean, I don't think you set the precedent, but I'm. I'm sure you didn't help, you know, so I wouldn't put the blame entirely on you.
Myron Metcalf
Should I go back to that same Waffle House at some point?
Billy
Well, that's a thing.
Myron Metcalf
Try again.
Billy
I mean, they probably got your. Your picture on the wall at this point.
Myron Metcalf
They might. They might not want my business, but I. It just rattled me that they said Tina does this every day, and that would shut the restaurant down in the Midwest, right?
Billy
And when. And there's severe weather in the south, and then you hear that the Waffle Houses are closed. That's when, you know, you need to start boarding up your. Your windows and really getting to. That's right. I mean, if Waffle House is closing, then you should really. You need to take cover and be on the lookout.
Myron Metcalf
Who is giving Tina napkins? Billy? If she's knocking the doggone thing off the table every day, who's giving her napkins? Isn't that the first thing you take? Like, if you got a kid, right, who, Who's. Who's painting on everything? You. You take away the paintbrushes. So it's. It's almost to me, if I'm being honest with you, and I don't want to make any accusations on. On a show or make any, you know, allegations, but are they setting Tina up? There's a part of me that wonders that, Billy, is this a setup? Because, you know, Tina's going to knock over the napkins and is this just. Big Larry likes to scream at Tina, and Tina likes to scream at Big Larry. All I know is the Kentucky couple that was in the corner didn't budge. They asked for some more coffee. That. That was probably, you know, not even top 25 Waffle House moment for that Kentucky couple. And for me, it was number one. And I just learned that maybe the Waffle House is for me. But there is a world, Billy, where maybe I'm not for the Waffle House. And that makes me sad.
Billy
You keep trying. Keep trying, Myron.
Myron Metcalf
Sad. It makes me sad.
Billy
There's a couple of savvy veterans in the corner, though. Wouldn't expect anything less from Kentucky fans.
Myron Metcalf
Do I have to. Yeah. Do I have to go with Waffle House people? Is that the way to go? Like, should I go with experienced Waffle House people?
Billy
You think it would help? Yeah, it would help. Until you learn how to, you know, hold your own and get your bearings. I think any help would. Would, I'm sure, would be great.
Myron Metcalf
Next time I'm in Lexington, I'm going to reach out to people. I want some Waffle House people to come with me to Waffle House and you can show me the Waffle House etiquette so I don't fail the test the way that I think I did in Atlanta. I think we have a break here and we'll take so many calls on the other side of it, the flavor.

Congratulations to CBS Sports and Sony Electronics for their first place wins for innovation in industry at this year's Unconventional Awards by T Mobile for Business. In a collaboration that was clearly built on breaking new ground, CBS and Sony created a first of its kind broadcast for the PGA Championship using a custom built T Mobile Private 5G network to power the live production, they deployed a 5G wireless camera system throughout the event. The network's speed, combined with Sony's innovative ultra Low latency video codec allowed for seamless, high quality footage without disruption. With that innovative approach, CBS gave broadcasters the tools they need to do what they do best. Take their coverage to entirely new places. These innovations will shape the way live sports are covered moving forward, and for that, T Mobile congratulates Sony and CBS for their unconventional thinking.

Myron Metcalf back in the mix here on KSR with Billy. I think we had some. We had. Do we have a radio thing or something? What happened? Billy?
Billy
Yeah, I don't know. It looks like we broke the radio station, Myron. So I don't know, break it. If Big Larry had something to do with that or maybe our hot takes today or, or.
Myron Metcalf
And this is, I gotta really appreciate this. This is the Love I Lost, by the way, by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. And let me tell you something, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, they wrote that music where she left, like this morning. Like, that's the kind of music they left, Billy. They wrote the music where they came home to the house and all the stuff was gone, right? Everything's got her toothbrush, all her clothes, everything. She took her pots and pans, Billy. Like, that's the kind of music they, they wrote. And if you don't know about Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and why it's so significant, that was led by Teddy Pendergrass, who became an R B superstar, but they wrote some of that music. But yeah, I don't know what just happened with the radio thing, but do you think the Waffle House heard what I said? And maybe they got angry and like, are they, are they doing something to try to disrupt?
Billy
If anything, it was our breakfast sponsor, Wild Eggs, that probably didn't appreciate our conversation about Waffle House and so decided to just take us off the air. Hopefully we are still on the air. It's just the commercials that are having a tough time right now. So, you know, we'll Continue forward. But I do appreciate you putting me on game Myron with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. I'll add that to the playlist for the next date night.
Myron Metcalf
Be careful. No, no, no, no, no, no. Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes is not date night. Al Green is date night. Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes is. It's over music.
Billy
You know I can't add that to that playlist.
Myron Metcalf
That's what I'm telling you. Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes is. She left this morning, but she gave you a slight sign that maybe the window is still open, the door is still open, right? Like, she's not answering your calls, she's not responding to your texts, but she liked one of your Instagram stories kind of thing, you know? I mean, so there's still a little door cracked open, but you gotta go slowly. But now you don't. If you're good in your situation, don't play Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes because it's all, like, you know, it's all about missing people and losing people. So that's not. That's not what you want. We got another call here. We got more.
Billy
Yeah, yeah. Let's go back to the phones. Jared has been patiently waiting. What's up, Jared?
Myron Metcalf
Jared, how you doing?
J
What's up, Myron? What's up?
Myron Metcalf
What's made you happy? What's made you smile?
J
Yeah, well, let me tell you what made me happy is moving in and finishing my move into my new apartment. And smile is getting a job offer tomorrow. Today.
Myron Metcalf
Let's go.
Billy
Oh, congrats.
Myron Metcalf
Congratulations on that. Congrats on the job offer, man. Hey, man, isn't it beautiful when life starts to come together like that? You got the apartment, you got the new job. That's a beautiful way to start the week, man.
J
It's beautiful. Let me. What I wanted to say, what I've been waiting on was, let me tell you, I. I remember my first UK game was when I was 15, watching John Wall beat UNC. And all I knew was Calipari basketball. But let me tell you, going into this season, I was really worried about Mark Pope. After the Duke game, I thought, okay, okay, they got some skills. They can play. They can play some of these bigger games. But, you know, after being regaled from years of stories about UK Paul in the past, you know, the miracle in Baton Rouge, you know, witnessing my generation's version of that against Gonzaga, I'm blown away. I can't believe this team.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, no, I. I appreciate the call. I think that's. You Know that's a reasonable response after that comeback on Saturday. And again, just imagine if you lose to Clemson, well, you just don't play great right at the end of the day. That just wasn't. Just didn't play well. And then the hangover of that bleeds into Gonzaga where again, some combination of you lose that game, maybe you're a little bit down, you don't have Lamont Butler, Kirk Reese. Obviously it's hurt in the game. You gotta crisscross the country. And again, I don't know if these guys talked about this or not, but the fact that that game started at 10:00 Lexington time, I just wonder what impact that would have had right on that team. So, I mean, I think that was a remarkable, remarkable comeback. And you know what, man? This is. This has been fun, man. They do this again on a Merry Monday. And I got more things I want to talk about on the other side of the break, Billy. Specifically, a new way for the College Football Playoff. Like in what I think should happen with the College Football Playoff going.
Billy
A lot of drama with that this weekend.
Myron Metcalf
There's a lot of. There's a lot of drama with it.
Billy
Bama's out.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah. And, you know, people are upset, Billy. People are upset. Is this a hard out, by the way?
Billy
Yeah, yeah. Let's heart out. Let's heart out right here.
Myron Metcalf
Okay, we're out. We're out. We're gonna hard out. We're out. We'll be back. I don't sound great, but yeah. Okay. Myron Metcalf here on ksr. Black Jones filling in for Matt Jones now. This is Teddy Pendergrass. Billy, you can add this to the playlist.
Billy
Okay, I'll add this one.
Myron Metcalf
Okay. But anybody who adds this to the playlist, I'm not responsible for what happens next because this is Teddy P. You know what I mean? There's Teddy Pendergrass. This is Teddy P. All right. Love tko. I mean, this is a whole. This is a whole nother thing. This is when you're trying to send the message it's you, you know, I mean, Billy, like, you know, there's nobody. It's just you. And that's. That's when you play Teddy P. And like I said, I'm not responsible for what happens next. But this is a whole different level. If you put some Teddy P. You gotta graduate to Teddy P. Billy. Like, you just can't jump into Teddy Pendergrass, you know? But once you have enough Al Green to kind of lay down Al Green's that layer of concrete. I don't know anything about landscaping, but it's like you lay down that layer of concrete and then now you start to build the house with Teddy P. That, that's how I would look at it. Putting a little Teddy Pendergrass on your playlist.
Billy
Well then, then I'll wait until we graduate from Al Green before Teddy P. Gets put into the rotation. I can't just, you know, start with Teddy psychological. So.
Myron Metcalf
You can't. You can. And I'm glad you realized that. Take you, you gotta, you gotta be in the right place with Teddy P. So I'll go over the list that I talked about on the show. Harold Melvin in the blue notes, that's what you play. That's for you. When she's gone, right? She left, took her toothbrush, she's out. However, there's still a little bit of a door open where you can make, you can come back together if you act right. That's what Harold Melvin is for. That's where you call her up and you just play Harold Melvin over the phone. You don't even say anything, Billy. Right. That, that's what I would recommend Harold Melvin for. Al Green is for. You know what, you just want to add some more love to the room. Al Green will help you that, help you with that. Teddy P. Is you just got to be ready for it, that's all. Brace yourself if you're going to put some Teddy Pendergrass on. I'm just, that's all I'm telling you.
Billy
Well, if you're, you're listening to Teddy P. Or Al Green or Harold Melvin, hopefully you have a good pair of sunglasses on while you're listening to. Because you need to stop overpaying for sunglasses. Are you tired of buying expensive sunglasses only to lose or break them? Myron Metcalf
I was like pipping the Jordan again, man, that transition, man, I love that. So people should know there are some technical challenges, right?
Billy
Yeah, yeah. Our commercials stopped working there for a second. I think we're getting back on track. But we're, you know, we're having to the old reboot kind of blow into the cartridge. Hopefully it works okay here in a second.
Myron Metcalf
Like the old Nintendo. Hey, you know what? But be patient everybody. We're trying to work through some tech issues. So the College Football playoff happened yesterday, by the way. Were you, were you mad about Alabama?
Billy
No, I was thrilled. I not mad at all. I mean, they lost a Vandy and Oklahoma. Myron, I think we can go up postseason without Alabama.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, I mean, I think that's what it comes down to, right? I mean, as much as people are like, oh, the committee had to weigh this and they had to weigh that. At the end of the day, Alabama lost that game. I don't think it was Vandy as much as it was Oklahoma where they just weren't competing. It's hard to make a case. And I saw Greg Bernd, their athletic director, said we're not going to schedule anybody ever again. And I do think that is a real threat though. And this is why I think we're headed to 16 teams. I think the Big Ten in the SEC and there were these reports before the season. I think they're going to say, give us automatic bids. We want four apiece. You know, and I don't know that the college football apparatus can stop them because they do hold all the cards and they do have all the power. So I think we will go to 16 teams. I think that will be announced soon. And I think that 16 team field will include automatic bids multiple for the Big Ten in the sec. You know, smu, did they deserve it? Did they earn it? I don't know what that necessarily means. They played Clemson down to a last second field goal. Um, you know, they lost to a BYU team that was top 10 in the country when they lost to them. So I get SMU being in. What I don't agree with Billy overall is the automatic bids and how that happens because to me, okay, top four seeds get the automatic birth and the buy. I'm fine with the automatic bid to the five to the five highest ranked champions, but I don't know that everyone should get a buy. Like to me, what would be more fascinating is if you just seeded the bracket based on where teams are ranked and then you give the buys to the top four teams. If you want to add more juice to these title games, which as good as some of them were, there weren't any stakes. You know, Ohio State and Penn State were both going to be in the field. Everybody knew it right at the end of the day. Oregon and Penn State were both going to be, I mean, sorry, Oregon and Penn State were both going to be in the field. Everyone knew that. And when it came to the sec, Georgia and Texas, no matter what happened, were both going to be in the field. So I think, you know, is there a way to say, all right, the five ranked champions, you get an automatic birth, but the top four seeds will actually get the buy because then let's say you're Penn State now, there's a lot more on that game beyond just trying to get a Big Ten championship. Now if you're Georgia and Texas, there's a lot more in that game because there's a world where maybe you lose, and I know that wouldn't have happened necessarily this year, but there's a world where maybe you lose but you still finish top four and you secure a buy. What do you, what do you think about that, Billy, that possibility?
Billy
I do, I, I do like what you're saying. I think there does need to be some wholesale changes to this because Oregon is punished more for winning the big Penn State losing because they'll take on the winner of Tennessee Ohio State while Penn State can play SMU and Boise State in the first two rounds. Meanwhile, a Texas team that lost the SEC championship plays Clemson and then possibly Arizona State. That's a pretty easy road to get to that Final Four. So I think there, you know, this is the first year of doing it. We've identified some of the issues and they'll change it. Do you think the SEC still goes to nine conference games after crying about, you know, extra losses here and there? Because I can definitely see them never scheduling a good non conference opponent again. And that's why we may see the end of the Louisville game. But do you still think it's inevitable that we go to nine games in the sec?
Myron Metcalf
Well, let me before that question, like, Alabama didn't lose its non conference games, right? So like the games they scheduled, they won. You know, so like part of this being like we're going to change our non conference schedule, I mean, that's your choice, but that's not why you're here. You're here because you lost the teams in your conference, you know, at the end of the day, like that's what it is. But I do think the SEC will go to nine and I do think they will schedule, you know, Mercer and teams like that in the non conference season. But I don't think that will happen without a 16 team playoff. What Greg Sankey can do is walk into that room and say give us four bids and people can go, well no, they're not going to get. That's not going to happen. Every time the college sports hierarchy has said we're not going to give the SEC what they want, they've lost. Right. We're not going to expand the playoff. Nobody wants to do that. Greg Sankey said during the pandemic, we should do it. No, we're not doing that. Look at us now, we got a 12 team playoff, right? Oh, no one's doing expansion. Oh, that's just going to. No, we're against expansion. Only the SEC is going to do it. Everybody expanded. So I think at the end of the day, Greg Sankey knows he has that power. So I think they will go to nine conference games. You will see. And this has to be the danger for the rest of college football is if the Big ten in the SEC say okay, we're only gonna play each other. Like those will be that. We'll schedule games against each other in the non conference season, then we'll schedule a couple of cupcake games and then we'll play a longer conference season and just ice out the ACC and the Big 12 and the group of five. We'll just make it so that you guys gotta play each other in order to have a chance to get into that top 12. Which is why I think we'll head to 16 with automatic bids. People will hate it, but there's no way around it with the power that the SEC and the Big ten both have. Like either listen to them, either go with what they want or they can say we'll do our own thing and shut all this down. That's not going to happen because we'll get a 16 team playoff. We got another caller.
Billy
Yeah, yeah. Let's go back to the phone lines. I believe PO has been patiently waiting. What's up Po?
Myron Metcalf
Po, how you doing on this? Merry Monday here on ks.
Unknown Speaker
Doing good. Good to hear your voice.
Myron Metcalf
Good, good, good. What's something that made you happy? Something that made you smile?
Unknown Speaker
We got a veteran team.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
That can play and that's not been the case in a long time. We got a good coach that can make end game decisions. That's not happened in a long time either.
Myron Metcalf
That's a big. That's a big deal. That's a big deal. What else brings you here?
Unknown Speaker
Yeah. Thank you guys. Billy, you've done a great job.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, Billy's been great. Thank you.
Unknown Speaker
Great job.
Myron Metcalf
I appreciate that.
Unknown Speaker
Billy, I loved your interviews with, with Sean woods and, and Richie Farmer the other day too, the few days you did. And those were awesome.
Billy
Yeah, they were great. And they were even better when they were on at the same time, weren't they? Po.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, man, that was awesome. That was great. I, I totally agree with you guys, Myron, about the, the, the college football playoffs. The first round buys. That needs to be shaken out a little bit.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
But I wanted to talk about basketball. One thing that Coach Pope says at the first year and I mentioned it after the Duke game because I think we're a second half team. One reason is because Coach Pope said we might not be the best team right now, but we're going to be the best conditioned. And I'll leave you all with that. And I appreciate you, appreciate you letting me have a little time on here.
Myron Metcalf
No, I appreciate the call. Yeah, I mean, I think, I think that was a different type of conditioning too, Bill. And I keep saying the same thing, but maybe people don't travel a ton. I travel a ton. And like that. Crisscross that criss. Cross country travel, if I can say the word. That's a lot, Billy. That's a lot on your body physically. Right. And to go out there with a late start time, you know, that can make teams sluggish. And you had to be conditioned when you're shorthanded to no Lamont, no Kirk at the end of the games and you're down. And it takes. I think sometimes people forget how much energy it takes to come back in a game like that. Like, it just takes. And what you see in a lot of games, and you should watch for this, across college basketball, you'll see a team down 12, 13 points, Billy. And they'll come back and maybe they close the gap, maybe they tie the game. In most situations, those teams lose because they spent so much energy just closing the gap. And now you got to find another boost of energy to actually finish the game. And I think that's the biggest challenge you have. And that's why that was so impressive.
Billy
What it was, it was really impressive. And before we take a break, I just want to butcher a quote that Mark Pope has given this year that kind of relates to that he said something to the effect of everybody wants to be where you're at, but nobody wanted to do what it took to get to you to where you're at. And that's just, it's a change in the mindset that we've seen in this team over the years. And I think that's part of the reason why they're able to have success when they face so much adversity like that. Myron.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, no, he's, he's got all the sayings, like, he sure does. He's like, he could do a TED Talk, you know, I mean, like, he's one of those people, like, just like philosophically, he could do one of those. So are we taking a break now?
Billy
Yeah, yeah, let's take a break here and then we'll come back and wrap it up.
Myron Metcalf
All right, we'll take a break and we'll be back.

It's great marketing. Before I go, I don't know how much to tip people, Billy. Like, so I've had a bunch of, like, I got some new appliances and some other stuff, you know, in the last month. I don't know what I'm supposed to tip those guys. You know, like, it's, you know, you go to a restaurant, you know, kind of what the range is, right. I don't know, like delivery dudes or delivery people like that. What do you tip them? And I was really conflicted by it. And there's not like a real manual. So, like, if someone gives you a new fridge, refrigerator, Right. What's the tip on? Is there a tip? Like, what do you do? Is there a manual?
Billy
Well, I'm going through this situation right now. I just ordered a new washer, but I am paying them to install it in my house.
Myron Metcalf
Yep.
Billy
Did you get that done as well? Okay.
Myron Metcalf
They installed it.
Billy
So is that not the tip in itself, or am I expected now to give them more money for doing the job I've already paid for? Because I feel like I kind of feel inclined to give them even more money.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, I did. I did tip. I mean, I didn't know what the standard was, though.
Billy
Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
And I think. Yeah. I mean, because there are. They are installing it, they're bringing it off the truck, they're bringing it up the stairs, they're bringing it into the house. But there's no standard on, like, what you're supposed to give. Like, is that a.
Billy
Well, first of all, they need to do a good job. They can't be bumping corners. Right. They can't be, like, stepping on my dog. I mean, it needs to be a good experience. And then, and then, really, for me, Myron, it's. It's probably more of, do I have any cash in my wallet to tip these. These guys with? And if. And if so, if it's anything less than a hundred dollar bill, I'd probably give it to him. Probably wouldn't give him a 50 either. It's probably 20. Is this a standard or do you think that's too high. What did you tip?
Myron Metcalf
I tipped 20 a guy. Like it was a three man team.
Billy
That seems right.
Myron Metcalf
Well, I got a. I got a. I got the whole package. I got oven, range, dishwasher, fridge, I got the whole thing. Right. So I did 20 a guy. Was that. I mean, I didn't.
Billy
I mean, that seems like a lot. I mean, it seems right, but you know, you can't do the opposite. You can't give them 120 and say, split it amongst yourself, boys.
Myron Metcalf
See, that's my thing. Is that going to cause a fight? And then here's the other thing. I thought, there's three guys. First off, who's the leader? Do I just give him all the money? But if I give him a 20, am I giving him the 20 or am I giving it to him with the expectation he spreads the love? I don't know. So then I just felt like, all right, Everybody gets a 20. But then I was like, wait a minute, is that the standard? I don't even know if we had more time, I would ask callers like what the standard is because I have no idea. And there's no real, there's no real manual to read or anything that shows you the standard in that regard either. So that's another problem.
Billy
You know, a better question maybe, when do you not tip nowadays?
Myron Metcalf
That may be better. But I mean, we got so many things in this country. Can we get a standardized manual on tipping people? And what that. Because I gave 20 a guy and I didn't know. I wasn't sure if.
Billy
It's only gotten worse, man, over these years. It's only gotten worse.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, but you know, and then I was like, do you tip at all? I don't know. You know, I don't know.
Billy
I think you did the right thing because then they'd be talking about you behind your back and, oh, that guy didn't tip.
Myron Metcalf
But. Yeah, but I already got the fridge, though. I mean, it's not like, it's not like a restaurant already in street where I'm gonna see the same stat. It's, you know.
Billy
Yeah, no, hey, a little bit.
Myron Metcalf
Hey, man, this has been fun. Matt Jones and company back after this. Thank you all for having me. As always, I appreciate the time that you've allowed me to spend. Happy, Merry Monday. Go enjoy your life.

Podcast Summary: KSR - Hour 2
Release Date: December 9, 2024
Hosts: Myron Metcalf and Billy
Duration: Approximately 54 minutes
Myron Metcalf kicked off the second hour by sharing a humorous and insightful recount of his recent trip to Atlanta for the Champions Classic. Flying in from Seattle after witnessing a spectacular Kentucky comeback, Myron transitioned to a surprising and somewhat chaotic experience at a local Waffle House.
He described his visit in vivid detail:
“I come into Waffle House. All true story. I sit down and I can already tell that they know I'm not a Waffle House person... Everyone around me knew what they wanted... I put Jodeci on the jukebox... finally picked my meal... Big Larry is the manager...”
(07:33)
Myron humorously navigated the unfamiliar territory of Waffle House etiquette, encountering the infamous "Big Larry" and "Tina" who were embroiled in a daily spat:
“Big Larry and Tina ... are in the corner of this Waffle House screaming at each other... Maybe I wasn’t prepared to be at the Waffle House.”
(13:15)
Billy chimed in with supportive banter, highlighting the uniqueness of the Waffle House environment and empathizing with Myron’s initial discomfort:
“Honestly, it sounds like the tamest Waffle House experience I've heard of.”
(12:32)
The conversation delved into cultural norms and expectations within familiar establishments, with Myron reflecting on whether he "belongs" in such settings:
“I learned that maybe the Waffle House is for me. But there is a world where maybe I'm not for the Waffle House.”
(19:09)
Shifting gears, Myron expressed excitement over the exhilarating college basketball games, particularly highlighting Kentucky’s impressive comeback against North Carolina:
“That's a what a comeback for the ages... some amazing games in the first month of college basketball... hoping for a great NCAA tournament.”
(03:12 - 04:04)
Jared, a caller, shared his recent milestones:
“What made me happy is moving into my new apartment and getting a job offer tomorrow.”
(27:15 - 27:35)
Another caller, Po, discussed his appreciation for a veteran team and effective coaching decisions:
“We got a veteran team... a good coach that can make end game decisions.”
(39:50 - 40:22)
These interactions showcased the hosts’ engagement with their audience, celebrating personal achievements and sports enthusiasm.
A lively debate ensued when Myron sought advice on tipping delivery and installation workers:
“I tipped $20 a guy... Is that the standard? I have no idea...”
(49:02 - 50:11)
Billy provided his perspective, emphasizing fair compensation for quality service:
“If it's anything less than a hundred dollar bill, I'd probably give it to him... That's probably a $20 a guy.”
(50:07)
They discussed the lack of standardized tipping guidelines, concluding that a $20 tip for a team of three was appropriate, while also acknowledging the complexities of splitting tips among workers.
Myron and Billy delved into the contentious topic of expanding the College Football Playoff from 12 to 16 teams. Myron advocated for including automatic bids for conference champions, especially from powerful conferences like the SEC and Big Ten:
“I think we will go to 16 teams... include automatic bids multiple for the Big Ten and the SEC.”
(36:42)
He argued that this expansion would address disparities and ensure deserving teams receive their opportunity:
“If the Big Ten and the SEC say we're only gonna play each other... we'll have a 16 team playoff.”
(37:28)
Billy agreed, highlighting the current system’s flaws and the necessity for change to maintain fairness and competitiveness:
“This is the first year of doing it. We've identified some of the issues and they'll change it.”
(36:42)
As the show neared its end, Myron and Billy touched on lighter topics, including music selections and handling technical issues, all while maintaining their signature humor. Myron concluded with a thoughtful reflection on the week:
“Happy, Merry Monday. Go enjoy your life.”
(52:12)
The episode wrapped up with advertisements and sponsored messages, alongside a final light-hearted exchange about Marvin Gaye, leaving listeners with both entertainment and food for thought.
Myron Metcalf:
“We're all on the same team in this country. So let's take a break from our hate so our team can regroup.”
(00:00)
Myron Metcalf:
“Maybe I wasn't prepared to be at the Waffle House.”
(13:15)
Billy:
“This is the one thing. It's the one thing you got to expect when you go into these situations.”
(37:28)
Myron Metcalf:
“We have to stand together as a united team. We can change the momentum.”
(53:14)
This episode of KSR provided a blend of personal anecdotes, sports analysis, audience interaction, and engaging debates, all delivered with humor and genuine camaraderie between the hosts. Whether discussing the quirks of beloved local eateries or the evolving landscape of college sports, Myron and Billy ensured listeners were both entertained and informed.
