Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. Text Machine, 772-774-5254. Matt Jones, Ryan Lemon, and Mario. Who doesn't know any. Any announcers. A couple people want to see if you know these. Do you know who Jim Nance is?
Ryan Lemon
No. Give me another one.
Matt Jones
I mean, you just skipped over Jim Nance. Might be the most famous one. What about Al Michaels?
Ryan Lemon
Who are these guys?
Matt Jones
Unbelievable. Unbelievable ride.
Ryan Lemon
Are they older?
Matt Jones
Yeah, but they're on TV every week.
Ryan Lemon
Huh.
Mario
But you know what? During the commercial break, he got. He knows. I know some people talk like Stephen A. Smith, Shannon Sharp, the Talking Heads. Yeah, you know, play by play.
Matt Jones
Guys, Marv Albert.
Ryan Lemon
Marv Albert.
Matt Jones
Marv Albert's been dead for a decade. Oh, is he. Sorry, I missed the guy.
Ryan Lemon
Marv Albert must be a different guy I'm thinking of.
Matt Jones
Okay, well, no, his. His kid is still on.
Mario
Yeah.
Matt Jones
What's his kid's name? Kevin Albert or something.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, is it. Is that his kid?
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's his kid. Yeah. So. All right.
Mario
You know Tom Leach?
Ryan Lemon
Of course I know Tom Leach.
Matt Jones
Paul Hogan passed away. Crocodile Dundee. Which might explain why Max is not here today.
Mario
To be a sad day.
Matt Jones
He might be sad, but rest in peace. To Paul. Paul Hogan apparently died this morning. Did you see any of the Crocodile Dundee movies?
Mario
I think I saw a couple of them. I don't remember minute of any of it, but I'm pretty sure I think I saw one.
Matt Jones
Let's talk about the football playoff for a second. Kind of a dud. All the games kind of stunk. Some people are saying it means they shouldn't have it. I disagree with that. I still enjoy watching it. But the games were kind of all blowouts. Pretty much they were.
Mario
I do enjoy these first round games on the home fields. I mean, I know it's a disadvantage of the other team, but man, for that home team, that's kind of a cool environment.
Matt Jones
What did you think about the Ohio State, Tennessee? Turns out Tennessee ended up with about 20 to 25% of the crowd. They. The early pictures made it look like it was all Tennessee fans, but then Ohio State fans came in and ended up being about 20 to 25%. But then Tennessee got absolutely destroyed.
Mario
Run off the field. Was it 21 nothing first quarter? I mean, it was. It was quick. I. Shame on Ohio State fans letting that happen. You know, you got a. You're hosting a home playoff game and you let those tickets get away and put in the hand. Hands of a Tennessee fan. Shame on you, Mario.
Matt Jones
They came into their trap, but they were not able to.
Ryan Lemon
They didn't take over the trap.
Matt Jones
They didn't take over the trap. They came in there but then got destroyed.
Ryan Lemon
I was gonna say, I've seen clips online. I didn't get to watch the actual game, but I saw a lot of Tennessee fans in.
Matt Jones
There were a lot of Tennessee fans. I listened to the Tony Basilio show while falling asleep Saturday night. And to. To listen to Tennessee fan sadness and anger. They. They still like their coach, but they're very upset that he. They say that he never wins a big game.
Mario
Was it comical? Were people some people losing their minds at all?
Matt Jones
Well, it was actually. Basilio was being the most calm. He was like, look, we had a good year, but the fans weren't having it. They were very, very, very upset.
Mario
Nothing they can do. Man, that was a blowout. That was. They just ran them off the field Saturday night.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So, you know, I still think the playoff though, is worth continuing. Do you think Indiana and smu, do you think they proved they shouldn't be in or not?
Mario
Yeah, definitely. So they're gonna keep the format, but you think they'll tweak it. Who gets in next year? What do you think will happen?
Matt Jones
I think they might end up tweaking it to where they don't give buys to like Boise State and Arizona State. I think that's probably the thing that will change it. But here's. I said Indiana didn't deserve to be in. SMU didn't deserve to be in. But the problem for people like me is if you make that argument, then how do you explain Tennessee? Because I think everybody thought Tennessee should be in and then they got beat just as bad. Maybe even they got beat worse than Indiana. So if you don't think Indiana and SMU should be in, what do you say about Tennessee?
Mario
It's a great argument to have, so I think they'll definitely tweak it to a little bit. I think you're right. They'll not give Arizona State and byu, I mean, Boise State, this first round buys at all, but that will make for some better first round matchups if they, you know.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I think what it'll mean is the first round matchups may be better, but you're still going to end up with the same second round discrepancies.
Mario
Yeah.
Matt Jones
That I think you have here. Let's talk about the portal for Kentucky. Kentucky is now, as according to 247 Sports, has the 8th ranked portal class in America. That number will go down as Alabama's of the world wants. They'll get more players but it's probably still going to end up a top 20 to 25 portal class. Gotten a lot of good dudes. They got the center from Western as their offensive lineman so they're basically have rebuilt entirely rebuilt their offensive line. There are more guys, Ryan, that are. So they've clearly gone in a different direction. They've gone away from getting the backup at Ohio State, the backup at Georgia, the backup at lsu, Alabama, they've gotten away from that. Now they're going and getting guys who have started on either not so great Power 5 teams like Minnesota or started and been really good at the Mac level or at the Conference USA level. Completely different strategy than what they've done these other years. Do you think it works? Can you win in the SEC with these guys like that?
Mario
I don't have a good answer for that because obviously it didn't work bringing in the backups. So they brought in the dude from Northern Illinois as a tackle, you know, two years ago so that, you know they kind of tried to. Tried that route tiptoeing.
Matt Jones
But he was good until he got hurt. I will say with Marquez Cox, I got to give the kid a little bit of leeway. He basically had no knees this year. I mean he, he was good before that.
Mario
So you know, like you said, they brought a guy from Minnesota. They got the edge rusher from usc.
Matt Jones
Now that's a little different though. I mean that's a superstar. Yeah, he's probably the best guy they got.
Mario
I think so too.
Matt Jones
I mean I think he will be. He, he is a, he's got a chance to be really, really good.
Mario
But your offensive line guys are, you're right. I mean you're, you got the Farmer kid back and everybody else may be all new position guys on that offensive line.
Matt Jones
So are you, do you have confidence in this group? I mean, are you scared? I mean, look, we, the reality is we haven't seen any of these guys play, so it's hard to know exactly.
Ryan Lemon
You haven't seen them play but you're optimistic about it. They're, they're making moves. So I, I mean I can't complain. I'm not going to sit here and be say that I'm over the top excited about it, but I'm, I'm, I'm.
Caller
I'm.
Ryan Lemon
I'm optimistic. I would say.
Matt Jones
What do you think I'm right, right after Christmas, probably Thursday or Friday, I'm going to have On Nick Cazada, who has a chance to be or Calzada as a chance to be our next quarterback from Incarnate Word. I'm sure a lot of people have read about him since, I mean, they are bringing him in to likely be the starter. Is that going to work?
Mario
I mean, obviously the guy has talent. He at A and M. He beat number one Alabama. The guy has talent, has put up some good numbers at Incarnate Word. So you just got to hope it translates. The last three quarterbacks Kentucky's had had to play hurt most of the year. Will Levis, Devin Leary and then Brock Vandergrift.
Matt Jones
Which is why it's so important you keep Cutter Bowley too, by the way. Because, I mean, we've had to play. We have played. I don't think people realize this. We have started a backup in every game in our last eight years. Yeah.
Mario
Wow.
Matt Jones
You have to go back to Steven Johnson to find a quarterback that went through the whole season where we never had to start a backup in a game. So we never really talk about the backups, but they really do matter, Ryan, because we've had to start one for eight straight seasons.
Mario
Your quarterback is going to get hit in the sec, man. So yeah, they're going to take a hit and miss some action. I didn't realize it went all the way back to Steven Johnson who's a guy they had to band aid together. But you're right. Especially these last three years, our starters have played, tried to play hurt a lot of the time and it hasn't been effective.
Matt Jones
Dane Key. Justin Rowland of Cats Illustrated hinted that Dane Key might consider a return to Kentucky. That that was being talked about.
Ryan Lemon
Clapping too soon.
Matt Jones
Before everybody claps, we have a Dane Key authority sitting here.
Ryan Lemon
We do, Matt.
Matt Jones
So before we. Before we, before we get too excited, I do think I have to ask, do you think there is any truth or possibility to the Dane Key might return?
Mario
That's a bad report. I mean, that's. That's not on the table and I think it's not.
Matt Jones
So. Not on the table. Not even being considered.
Mario
They've not even talked. So that's not a possibility.
Matt Jones
So this is why I told you not to clap, Mario.
Mario
And I hate it for Dane. I mean, Dane, like we said, you know, he gave his heart and soul for three years to this university and now it comes out again. He may return and I feel like fans are kind of turning on him like that. That's just a bad report. That's not even been a possibility. Of him returning.
Matt Jones
So you don't think there was even a conversation of returning?
Mario
I know there's not even been a conversation.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, that's. That is unfortunate for Dane because you, you know, you don't want to get people's hopes up.
Mario
Yes.
Matt Jones
And then. And then him not do it. Where do you. If I made you put the money line down, Ryan Lemons hard earned spendthrift dollars on where Dane would go. I. I heard a report. You tell me if this is correct. Either Georgia, Illinois or Nebraska. Do you. Does that sound correct?
Mario
I think you nailed it because he made four visits. Ole Miss was the fourth one. But I think it's going to come down to those three. And I think we may even hear something by today.
Matt Jones
Today.
Ryan Lemon
Wow.
Matt Jones
Wow.
Mario
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So again, where would you put your dollars? Or you don't want to say?
Mario
Kentucky Wesleyan college.
Matt Jones
All right. So you don't want to say. All right. So let me just ask you, as a fan, I would hear that. Okay. His wide receiver coach at Nebraska. But I kind of thought maybe that wasn't the best relationship in the world. Georgia, I get his girlfriend's there. Why. Why Illinois?
Mario
The receivers coach at Illinois was the receivers coach at South Carolina that recruited him to South Carolina. And I learned a lot watching that process. It's not necessarily the school. It's not necessarily the head coach. It's that coach recruiting you that you develop that relationship with that you close with. So he really likes this guy that was at South Carolina that is now at Illinois.
Matt Jones
He's got to go to. He's got to go to Georgia, though, right? Don't you, Mario? I mean, I won't make him talk. You got your girls at Georgia. They got a chance to win the national championship. Their weakness the last couple years, they haven't really had an explosive receiver. It seems like he would fit in exactly with what they need. Mario, don't you have to go to Georgia? Who wants to live in Nebraska anyway? Illinois, they stink. Why would you want to do that?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, I would go to Georgia as his ladies there as well. And then that's a storied program. Like, why not you get a chance to play for a championship As a.
Matt Jones
Fan and as a fan and as somebody who's known Dane key since he was in grade school, I want him to go to Georgia because I don't understand. Illinois or Nebraska. Illinois, Nebraska. They're going to go seven and five next year. Right. Like, why would you want to go do that?
Ryan Lemon
Ryan did say that winning a championship is one of the more important.
Matt Jones
Yeah, they win in a championship at Illinois or Nebraska.
Mario
I guess the attraction for Nebraska also, they've got a hot young quarterback. The facilities are.
Matt Jones
You mean the Mahomes look alike?
Mario
Yeah. Yeah.
Matt Jones
But has he been in Nebraska? Does he know how much corn is out there? Does he know how it's just sad and makes you want to cry?
Ryan Lemon
Very depressing.
Matt Jones
Very depressing. Does he know that?
Mario
Well, he just was just out there. He just got back Saturday night. Yeah, from Nebraska.
Matt Jones
Mario. A lot of white people out there. That's all I'm gonna say in Nebraska. Am I wrong? Yeah, we were there. We were there. You're the one that said it, not me. Don't act like I said it. Who's up next?
Mario
Slick is up next.
Matt Jones
Slick, go ahead.
Slick
What's going on, guys? Merry Christmas to you all.
Matt Jones
Merry Christmas to you guys.
Slick
Yes, sir. One thing that just worries me about this Ohio State game is that I don't know what they compare to the SEC field. So going into conference play, I feel like we might. We might struggle a little bit. And I hope that we don't become that team that can drop three, four in a row because SEC, like you mentioned, is a gauntlet. So I'm not sure where Ohio State compares to the field of sec. I'd probably say I'd put them in the Andy or LSU field around there, but, you know.
Matt Jones
Well, I mean, so they played. Ohio State's played two SEC teams in basketball. They lost by 40 to Auburn, but they beat Texas to start the year. So when you say, where would they compete in the sec? Probably they'd look at you and go, well, so far we're two and one, so I mean, they probably would think they'd be towards the middle to upper part of the sec.
Slick
I agree. I agree. Well, the good thing about basketball is that you get another game three or four days later to turn it around. So you think it's tough.
Matt Jones
I appreciate the call. Do you think it's tough for them, the fact that they have to wait so long to play again? I mean, they don't play again till. Till New Year's Eve.
Mario
I think the way it played out Saturday, that is tough. You got to go this 10 days without a game. They're probably chomping at the bit. Wish they were playing today, you know, having a game today. So I think it's going to be a tough week for that team after coming off that butt whooping they got.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, we lost Saturday the 21st, and now you're Looking at a week from tomorrow before they play again, the team they play, which is Brown, they played Kansas Yesterday, lost by 30 to Kansas, but are predicted to, I mean they might win the, the, the Ivy League. So they're not, they're not a terrible team. They probably going to favorites in the Ivy League this year.
Mario
That's a good team to have after you get your butt kicked, bring them in here to RUP and have a good win because going into conference play because that first conference game against Florida at 11 o'clock and ain't gonna be easy.
Matt Jones
Tell me about Stockton mortgage.
Mario
Stockton mortgage. You know, let's say you got, you get up Christmas morning and you think, do you open up your presents and there's a set of keys there and they're wanting to get a new house. I'm trying, I'm making this up on the phone.
Matt Jones
Who gets a house for Christmas?
Mario
Well, maybe you.
Matt Jones
So you think somebody's just going to buy a house.
Mario
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And give it as a Christmas present and there's just going to be keys. No one has ever gotten a house under their tree for Christmas.
Mario
It's possible that.
Matt Jones
Who you. Who's buying me a house?
Mario
Your mom?
Matt Jones
Okay. Thank you. That's what Larry after pajamas.
Mario
Oh, you think the el.
Matt Jones
Drop that. Rick. Rick, drop that. Did you get it?
Mario
I got.
Matt Jones
What is wrong with you?
Mario
I forgot that was on the DL. I forgot that was on the DL.
Matt Jones
You forgot the Christmas gift was on the DL?
Mario
Yeah, yeah.
Matt Jones
I mean I'd rather have Max. At least he did. At least he didn't. Max not showing up is more consistent than that. Just finish the ad.
Mario
Stocktonmortgage stockton.commnls8259 equal housing lender good job, Ryan.
Matt Jones
Be right back.
Rick
Congratulations to CBS Sports and Sony Electronics for their first place wins for innovation in industry at this year's Unconventional awards by T Mobile for Business. In a collaboration that was clearly built on breaking new ground, CBS and Sony created a first of its kind broadcast for the PGA Championship. Using a custom built T Mobile Private 5G network to power the live production, they deployed a 5G wireless camera system throughout the event. The network's speed combined with Sony's innovative ultra low latency video codec allowed for seamless, high quality footage without disruption. With that innovative approach, CBS gave broadcasters the tools they need to do what they do. Take their coverage to entirely new places. These innovations will shape the way live sports are covered moving forward. And for that, T Mobile congratulates Sony and CBS for their unconventional thinking.
Matt Jones
What is this, Rick?
Mario
I know what this is. This was for Ryan. Darius Rutger, Candy Christmas, Candy Cane Christmas by Darius Rucker.
Matt Jones
Boy, we've really hit all the hits today. Thank you. Darius Rucker. Christmas, Candy Cane Christmas, Candy Cane Christmas. Oh, that's awesome.
Mario
Put it in your playlist.
Matt Jones
Apparently, it got dropped, so the thing you said that you weren't supposed to say got dropped.
Mario
Good.
Matt Jones
So thankfully, just for the record, for those of you wonder what got dropped, why I would have reacted like that. He just completely said the Christmas present that I was getting. But thankfully that didn't go over the air, so I don't think so. Inconsistent. 859-28-2287. I need to apologize. First of all, Marv Albert is not dead. Apparently he's still alive. And Paul Hogan is still alive, too. So I killed them both off accidentally. It was the crocodile, Bert, the crocodile that died, not Paul Hogan. So apologies to. To both of them.
Mario
The thing that blows my mind, that crocodile was 90 years old. I didn't know crocodiles lived that long.
Ryan Lemon
Wow.
Matt Jones
Was the crocodile 90, 90 years old? I didn't know they lived that long.
Mario
I had no idea.
Ryan Lemon
Do they live that long?
Matt Jones
Yeah. Are you sure that it was. The crocodile was 90.
Mario
I thought a couple people were sending in.
Matt Jones
That's pretty. Well, I mean, I guess I have Burt the crocodile. I just read this story today, something for people to think about while you're enjoying your Christmas. There was a story I read on Bloomberg that said there's a major concern that in. Starting in February, February, March, April, May, that we might not have eggs. That eggs, like, we may just not have eggs for. For a few months, or if we do, they may be wildly expensive. And this time you can't blame it on Joe Biden. It's the. It's bird flu. You know, they have this bird flu out in California and all these. And it's making it to where the eggs, you can't eat them. And they're saying that the. That will affect the economy starting in about February and that we might have three or four months where eggs double or could even triple in cost. And that it may just mean that for a few months they're not. You can't even find them. So we might be short of eggs. They think chicken will still be okay because they don't think it will affect the chicken, but they. It may very well affect the eggs.
Mario
Most people won't hear this story, will have any idea and just show up in February and see their eggs are tripled. In price or something like that and wonder what's.
Matt Jones
Do you worry about that with. With eggs? Do you eat a lot of eggs?
Mario
I don't eat a lot, but I eat them once a week at Waffle House. I'll have scrambled eggs and cheese.
Ryan Lemon
There we go.
Mario
Okay, so I get. I have eggs at least once a week.
Matt Jones
So just maybe enjoy your eggs a little more. I don't know who has eggs for Christmas, but whatever, whenever you eat them, because they may be about to rocket up in price thanks to bird flu.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, eggs I'm not crazy over, but chicken. I definitely need the chicken. I hope.
Matt Jones
I don't know. Well, I will tell you when we. When there have been chicken issues, it affects this place a lot. I mean. I mean, wings are a huge part. You know, during. During COVID Remember, there was that shortage of wings for a while, and the prices of wings went up. There was a period of time we were selling wings here, and every wing we sold, we lost money for a period of time. Now that's changed, but we didn't. You know, they just. You're a chicken wing place. You have to keep selling them. But they were. They. They were costing so much.
Mario
So how can it affect the egg and not affect the chicken?
Matt Jones
I don't know which comes first, the chicken or the egg, but I'm not sure why. They just said they didn't expect it to affect the cost of chicken, but it would affect the eggs. So I don't know. That's a good question. You're the scientist. Who's up next?
Mario
Dan is up next.
Matt Jones
Dan, Go ahead, Dan.
Caller
Hi, guys. Went to the game Saturday a little bit disappointed about it, but that's life. That happens. I still enjoyed my time. I've learned in my older age to go enjoy the experience. I'm not gonna have any effect on what happens in the actual game itself.
Ryan Lemon
So.
Caller
I graduated from UK in 1990, and I live in eastern Pennsylvania. How many UK fans like me have probably seen us lose more basketball games and win more basketball games between regular season games and tournament? We've not really had much luck in the east coast in a long time.
Matt Jones
You mean when we play? Okay, I didn't know what you're saying. You mean when we've played on the east coast, do you think we've lost more than we've won in recent years? That's a good question. I mean, let's go back.
Caller
Can we go?
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, we won in Philly last year. Yeah. Yeah, we've won. We won a lot before that, I mean, we won. I mean, first of all, we won a national championship on the East Coast, Right? We won in. In 96. We won the title on the East Coast. In recent years, we've won a couple. We've won a few times in Madison Square Garden, lost a couple times. We won in Philly last year. We obviously lost in Pittsburgh last year in the tournament. Appreciate the call. Lost to Robert Morris in. Up. Up on the East Coast. Where else have we had games that, remember up there. But we did win the title and went to the final Four in Newark in 2011. Went and won that. Went to the Final Four. We won that tournament at that little casino in Connecticut. You remember the Brandon Night year. I think we won a tournament at that little. In Uncasville, Connecticut, the year that they.
Mario
Played in Long Island. I think they won both of those games in the NCAA tournament.
Matt Jones
Yes, I think we've won more than we've lost, but we've. We've. We've lost maybe a few more in here in recent years.
Mario
Talk about the game in Brooklyn that Jamal Murray had 30 something in the second half. They lost that one.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but didn't we. We won a game in Brooklyn, though, too, didn't we? At the Barclays Center. We played somebody.
Ryan Lemon
Is that Monks here? I don't. Malik Monk.
Matt Jones
No, I don't think so. Yeah, but in general, I do think we've won. We've won more games on the east coast than we've lost, you know, over the last 30 years. 859-280-2287 text machine. 772-774-5254. We'll take a break. Be right back. It's KSR. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. Turn this up a little bit. Rick, do you know this song?
Mario
Don't know this song.
Matt Jones
It's called Fairy Tale of New York. It's by the Pogues. Do you know who the Pogues are?
Mario
Do not. Sorry.
Matt Jones
It's like this group from, like the 80s and it's a Christmas song. It's kind of a sad song if you listen to the words, but. But it's actually, I think, really pretty. And a guy, Hozier. They perform. He performed at the on. On Saturday Night Live. Performed a version of it this weekend. And it was. I loved it. And it reminded me how much I like that song. I'd forgotten about it. It was big when I was in college. It's like a man and woman and they're in New York City during Christmas and they're singing to each Other, but they're also kind of mad at each other. And it's actually a really neat song. You ought to listen to it when you go home.
Mario
So it's a Christmas song, but basically around.
Matt Jones
But it's not, like, about Christmas. Like, it's not about. It's. It's a romantic song. There, you got it. It's. But it's. It's about being in New York City on Christmas. It's called Fairy Tale in New York.
Mario
Okay.
Matt Jones
Will you try?
Mario
I will, absolutely.
Matt Jones
The. The. It's the.
Mario
The version or this version?
Matt Jones
The poverty. No, the Pogues. P O G U E S. Okay. The guy, the male singer of the Pogues is. And I say this with all due respect, because he's passed away, so rest in peace. Not an attractive man. He's a perfect example of if you can sing, you can get by with a lot of stuff. He. Again, rest in peace. Great song, great legacy, but not an attractive man. And it should give everyone. Ryan. Confidence that you can make it in the world.
Mario
Well, it sounds pretty. Just hearing it. I haven't listened to the world.
Matt Jones
They have good harmony and all that. One person writes. Matt, I want to be clear because I think it's important for you to have expectations. The way that the. What Ryan said got dropped, made it seem like you were buying your mom a house. If you're not buying your mom a house, you probably should say that I'm not buying my mom a house. I don't like that. I actually think I got a really nice gift, but I don't want her to think I got a house, because then she'll be disappointed. Thank you very much for that, Ryan. I appreciate it.
Mario
Well, that's good. The secret gift remains a secret.
Matt Jones
Yes, that would be. Here you go and you get something really nice. Mario. And then this dude makes them think it's a house.
Ryan Lemon
It's Ryan Lemon for you.
Matt Jones
What is on your head?
Ryan Lemon
It's a hat. It's a beanie.
Matt Jones
But what.
Ryan Lemon
Why?
Matt Jones
It looks like a cow.
Ryan Lemon
It looks like. Oh, it's just like, the design of it, Matt. Just a little, you know, a little stylish beanie kind of thing.
Matt Jones
Is it stylish?
Ryan Lemon
Just a little bit.
Matt Jones
Who makes it? Who's the. I don't know.
Ryan Lemon
I just. I just bought it in the mall.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Okay. Well, do you think I could pull that off?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. Maybe not this type of beanie, but I could see you in another beanie. I've seen you in beanies before.
Mario
Yeah, yeah, yeah. You were a beanie. And Vale.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
We beat Providence in Brooklyn.
Mario
Okay.
Matt Jones
And we beat Maryland in Brooklyn. That people may remember. That Maryland game. That was the Jared Polson game. Jared Polson came off the bench and he scored like 18 points. Probably the best game he had as a Kentucky player was in Brooklyn against Maryland. In the Providence game was the one where Larry sat next to World Wide west the entire game, didn't know who he was. Talked to him for two hours, talked about how interesting he was and had no clue who he was talking to.
Mario
Maybe my favorite Larry story ever. He set by World Wide west the whole game and talked to me the whole game. Had no idea.
Matt Jones
No idea. And then I loved at the end, I said, what did. Because, you know, nobody really knows what World Wide west does. I said, what did World West Wild west say he does? And Larry goes, it wasn't really clear. And I was like, you know what? It's never been really clear exactly what World Wide West.
Mario
We all say the same thing. It's not really clear what he does.
Matt Jones
Yes. One person writes, Matt, in the next 10 years, the playoff will likely explain expand to 16 in college football. Go on the record, do you three guys think in a 16 team playoff Kentucky will ever make it 16 teams? Let's just assume next year it has to be 12. But then they're talking about expanding it the next year. If it went to 16 and we had a decade, do you think we would ever make it?
Mario
I'm going to say yes. I mean, we saw Indiana make it, for crying out loud. Kentucky's football program is similar to Indiana. South Carolina was knocking on the door this year. I think Kentucky has up until recently had a better program in South Carolina. So I'm gonna go on record and say yes.
Matt Jones
If it went to 16, then I think they would probably most years take five from the SEC. Probably like let's just say it went to 16 this year. Who would they have taken? They would have added Alabama, Miami, probably Ole Miss and South Carolina. Right. That's probably who the other ones would be. So that would have actually been six SEC teams. Mario, do you ever think we come in the top five or. Or six in the SEC to make it?
Ryan Lemon
I see six. Five. It will be tough because you got to remember we do have Texas and Oklahoma in SEC now. So definitely, you know, a bigger pool to pull from. So I. But I could see six. I could see. I could see six.
Matt Jones
I think if it got to 16 would require us to be nine and three. I think if you, if you got to 16 you're in. If you're nine and three, you're in. I think we will go nine and three once in the next decade. So I think that's. I don't know if we'll make it at 12, but I think it's 16.
Ryan Lemon
12 is tough.
Matt Jones
We would make it.
Mario
Yeah. With that schedule next year, they wouldn't make it. But they're called. That schedule is going to change a little bit and then, you know, you catch on a year where maybe it plays in your favor a little bit. You have a really good team. Absolutely.
Matt Jones
That schedules really difficult. But let me just give you a hypothetical example. Let's go back five years. Okay. Let's just go back five years and let's say you played that same schedule you're playing next year. Five years ago.
Mario
All right.
Matt Jones
Okay. So five years ago, Georgia would still be really good, but Texas is not nearly as good. Five years ago, Ole Miss is not nearly as good. Five years ago, Tennessee is not nearly as good. Five years ago, South Carolina is not nearly as good. Auburn's probably slightly better than they are now, but that would be a completely different schedule. Florida was bad five years ago. If you had that exact same schedule you had this year five years ago, that would have been a schedule. Ryan, if you were good, you could take advantage.
Mario
You maybe could win nine games and maybe be sniffing at a playoff bid with that schedule. So, yeah.
Matt Jones
So, yeah. So the schedule, some year Mario will break for us. I could see in a way that's good. It didn't break for us this year and we weren't good. But we'll get a year where I think that can happen like it did for Indiana this year.
Ryan Lemon
To your point, teams go through phases where they get better and sometimes they're worse. Like you said five years ago, some of these teams were not the same. Tennessee was not the same five years ago that they are now.
Matt Jones
And the teams that aren't good that were disappointing this year, we avoided them. Like, we didn't get to play kind of a disappointing Oklahoma team. We didn't get to play kind of a disappointing Missouri team. We didn't get to play a terrible Mississippi State team. We didn't get to play a disappointing Arkansas team. So we got kind of unlucky in the sense that a lot of the SEC teams that weren't as good as they thought they'd be, we didn't get any of them this year. And we were one of those teams, honestly, as well. Who's next?
Mario
Jackson is up next.
Matt Jones
Jackson, go ahead Jackson. Hey, guys.
Caller
I just wanted to know what your.
Matt Jones
Guys thought to the CBS coverage of the basketball game. Was sound to me like that little.
Caller
Sour taste in their mouth.
They just love that contract sec.
Matt Jones
Well, to be fair, I couldn't hear it because I was here. So I, I couldn't hear the announcers. It was loud enough in here. You couldn't hear them. Did you hear the announcers have any sort of anti SEC bias?
Mario
I didn't hear it.
Matt Jones
Of course.
Mario
I listened the first half in the car. Listen to Tom and Jack, the whole first half driving Indiana. So I was it.
Matt Jones
Was it Rafferty? Is that who did the game? Was it Bill Raftery?
Ryan Lemon
I know who.
Matt Jones
That's going good. Any of you know who called the game on Saturday? Did anyone?
Ryan Lemon
Cbs? No, Nobody.
Matt Jones
Wow. If it was Bill Raftery, nobody paid attention to it. I think, I think I heard Tim Brando doing it. No one here seems to know who called the game. Maybe it wasn't Bill Raftery. I don't know.
Mario
I don't. I watched the second half and don't remember him being on the broadcast.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I will say I much prefer CBS game coverage to ESPN's. I just do for basketball. It's loud, louder. Yes, it's, it's. They, they get the environment much better on CBS than they do at least on in rup. On espn.
Mario
Yes. That's just, you know, their audio production is just better. I don't know if it's the mic placement or whoever runs the audio board.
Matt Jones
It's just better.
Mario
Something's different.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it is. It is always better. Who's next?
Mario
Got Kevin.
Matt Jones
Up next. Kevin, how are you? Kevin?
Ryan Lemon
Hey.
Caller
I'm doing well. Thanks for taking my call. Guys, in regards to Kentucky's football recruiting ranking right now I'm gonna. A little bit. Well, not a little bit. I'm very skeptical about Stoops being able to turn her around. I think it's more of a culture or a lack of culture issue. Go back to look when he started. It took him three or four or five years.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Caller
To build the culture. He did you look at the offensive line play. It has got worse over the last four years. Yes, you can. I believe you can, you know, build, you know, build or design recruit, good offensive line. But look at what he had this last year. I'm just skeptical and I have zero faith in Wolford. I think how what happened with him, Stoops, bringing him back was a mistake. But if you look at Wolford's calling card, his MO is he might have some good offensive lines, but they're always bad in the past in. In the pass rush.
Matt Jones
Well, you're gonna. I think you're gonna. I think those are very reasonable views. I mean, and I appreciate the call. I think those are very reasonable views. Mark Stoops, by the way, the season ended, and I think in part because of his decision to be silent since the end of the year, which I think has been a mistake, there's a lot of fans that are going to be skeptical. I mean, Kentucky literally just got a transfer commitment a few minutes ago. Cameron Olds, a linebacker from Kent State, a guy they really wanted. But there's no way I can sell to people to be excited about it, you know, I mean, they're just not going to be excited about it. And I think that's. That skepticism is going to remain Ryan until they kick it off next year.
Mario
They made a living early in the transfer portal by finding these guys that end up being stars once they transferred here. Okay, you got to duplicate that. You got to do it again this year for sure.
Matt Jones
But, I mean, they did, like. They've gotten probably two thirds of the guys. I mean, I know who they were targeting. They've missed out on about a third of them. They've gotten about two thirds.
Mario
That's awesome. That's good.
Matt Jones
But do you think people are excited about any of it? Is there one player they've gotten in the portal that people are excited about? I think they've. I think the negativity about this, about Stoops, has made it to where the players. People are just not. I don't think they're. They think they're not good. But, Mario, they're not excited about any of them.
Ryan Lemon
They're not excited. Like you said, they're just gonna have to wait till kickoff next season or maybe it might get better over the summer as time goes on. Maybe. But as far as what it looks like right now, yeah.
Matt Jones
I mean, I'll be honest with you. I don't think this. This fan base is going to really believe anything until Kentucky plays Ole Miss in week two of the season.
Mario
You're right.
Ryan Lemon
Do you blame him?
Matt Jones
I don't blame him, no. I mean, Stoops made his own bet on that. He made his own bed. They're 4 and 8. He. I don't think, handled the PR aspect of it well, and now he just has to accept that and then try to move forward after that. Servpro, if you. There have been floods all over the country this year, and ServPro is working all around the country at all of them. If you have something in your home, maybe this Christmas, hopefully a water heater doesn't break or you have water in your basement or a storage unit or something messes up and you get odor, a mold problem, servpro will come in, make it like it never even happened. 1-800-servpro that's servpro.com 1-800-servpro franchises independently operated. Hopefully you don't need them, but if you do, call ServPro. We'll take a break. Be right back. Final segment here, Right before Christmas, Kentucky.

Sports Radio congratulations to 3am Innovations on their first place win for innovation in community at this year's unconventional awards by T mobile for business. 3am used T Mobile 5G to enable Florian, the first AI enabled incident command platform for first responders. Florian's features include real time tracking of personnel on a 3D map and voice activation. AI is used to filter out background noise until it hears a trigger word such as mayday. Increasing situational awareness on the ground and improving on site safety. This will shape rapid response moving forward. And for that, T Mobile congratulates 3am for their unconventional thinking.
Matt Jones
Oh, this is good. Yeah, well done, Rick. This is a nice way to finish here. The segment, the Peanut song. Did you see Saturday Night Live? Did a live action of the peanut song.
Mario
Did they?
Matt Jones
You got to look that up. It's really good. They all dance like they do in the thing. They have the one person like with his, with the shoulders just going like this. They have the guy playing the piano and Kenan Thompson was Snoopy and it was, it was. It's really good. You have to look it up.
Mario
I will.
Matt Jones
I'll look that up.
Mario
That'd be cute.
Matt Jones
I'm sick over one thing, Ryan. Nobody likes to hear. Little, little secret for people out there. No, there, there are a couple things nobody wants to hear about. And one of the things nobody wants to hear about is how close you came to winning a bet or not. Like, no one likes that. But I'm still going to do it because I made myself sick yesterday. I always make a bet on all of the early games just for fun. And yesterday I was, I won. I hit them all against the spread and I had a parlay that was like + 4,500. And I cashed out because I thought the commanders were going to lose. So I cashed out at like 4 to 1, which is still great.
Mario
Oh yeah.
Matt Jones
But it was going to be like 44 to 1 and I cashed out and then they came back and won and I was sick. I like literally I was sick. It was a lot. It could have, could have bought you a present and so you didn't get one because of it. But that, that one was tough. So Jaden Daniels, he killed me on the Hail Mary earlier this year. So I just, I think I'm gonna have a grudge against him for the rest of the year.
Mario
Dude just cemented rookie of the year award though this year.
Matt Jones
Probably so.
Mario
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Yeah for sure. Probably so. One person writes mat are you guys going to each do on Christmas Eve? So my mom will cook, we'll eat and then we will watch the Nate Bargazi Christmas special because it's like the one thing we can all agree on to watch. And then we have like a midnight church service. Do you go to a midnight church service?
Mario
Our church this year at Center Point is doing it early at 3:00 and 4:30 so people can come and then go spend Christmas Eve with their family.
Matt Jones
But doesn't that miss the point? The whole point is to be there as the thing happens. Parumpa pum pum. Like it's, it's at midnight.
Mario
Well that now we can go have you with our church family so it's.
Matt Jones
More convenient to you rather than celebrate the birth of Jesus. I'm still just to make sure you get to be in bed by midnight.
Mario
We'll still celebrate. Woo hoo. Birth of Jesus, 3:00.
Matt Jones
Larry's 87 years old. He will walk out of that house when it's six degrees and go to first Christian church and you will be in bed.
Mario
Oh no, that may be up with my family. Christmas Eve night, church, family tree, drink, family. Oh yeah, we played games uno.
Matt Jones
You know exactly the way Jesus and God wanted you to to spend Christmas Eve. Who's up next?
Mario
Got Ron up next.
Matt Jones
Ron. Go ahead Ron.
Caller
Yes, I was just calling about the PJs.
Matt Jones
Oh, okay Ron. Okay, we can't talk about that. Okay, okay. Okay. All right. Thank you Ron. Appreciate the call. I see what you started. I started? You are the one that said it, not me.
Ryan Lemon
You started it, Ryan.
Matt Jones
Thank you Ron though, I know you were trying to be helpful. I appreciate it. Just they're probably listening and I don't want them to know what I'm, what I'm getting. Who's up next?
Mario
Thomas is up next.
Matt Jones
Thomas. Go ahead Thomas. Yeah.
Caller
With all the inconsistency, the most consistent guy this, this fall I believe has been Dane Key himself. You know he was a really Go to guy he was relied heavily on and I don't get the people slamming him. Good for that kid going and making his situation better. I truly believe he's, you know, NFL talent. I hope so. I hope he goes to Georgia. I hope he kills it and improves his draft stock so totally. I don't get people killing him for that.
Matt Jones
I totally agree with you on that and I appreciate the call. Let's go back to last year. Dane Key, Barryon Brown and Dionne Walker, all three had chances to go to top programs. They chose to come back. Now you can talk about what happened with Dion and Barry on and whether they reached their potential and it's a fair argument. But all three had a chance to go play for teams that could win a national championship. They came back. You know what? Things didn't work out. Deion's now probably going the draft. Barry on gets a chance at lsu. Dane, we'll see what he does. But he has a chance at Georgia. If we're going to be consistent and if we're going to be honest as fans, if we're going to celebrate that Jackson, Robinson and Lamont Butler and, you know, Ortega o way and these guys got to go from places to a place to compete for a title and fulfill their dreams in basketball and we're going to celebrate that, then we have to do the same thing that Dane Key and Barry on Brown may go do that at a school that has a chance to win a national title. I don't care how optimistic you are about next year. We ain't winning a national title in football next year. So I even. I don't even know Barry on Brown. I know Dane through you. If we're going to celebrate our basketball guys doing it, Ryan, we have to sell. We have to salute our football guys who gave us three years and then decided.
Mario
Thank you for saying that. You said it exactly the way I feel. You know, Danes feels very blessed to have played here for three years and he's hometown school now. He's got some great opportunities. He's excited about him.
Matt Jones
Now if he goes to Illinois, that's a whole different thing. Court Physical Therapy krt.com Over 70 locations around the state. If you need physical therapy, go to court. There's no reason to be in pain. Physical therapy helps you feel better, helps you get back to where you need to be. I've done it with my wrist. You can do it as well. It's k o r t.com Rick Merry Christmas, Mario. It's been a blessing to have you join us this year. Thank you very much. Merry Christmas. And Ryan, absolutely love you as always. You're. You're the best. Merry Christmas to you. And Merry Christmas to all of you that are listening. We appreciate it. We will be back on here the 26th. Enjoy time with all your family and friends. We'll see you later. It's been Kentucky Sports Radio.

Matt Jones [04:21]: "Kentucky is now, as according to 247 Sports, has the 8th ranked portal class in America."

The episode featured a significant conversation about transfer quarterback Dane Key, addressing rumors and fan speculation regarding his possible return to Kentucky.
Caller [08:52]: Hinted at Dane Key's return to Kentucky.
Mario [08:45]: "That's a bad report. I mean, that's not on the table and I think it's not."

The team discussed potential destinations for Dane Key if he decides to transfer, including Georgia, Illinois, and Nebraska, evaluating each option's viability and relationship dynamics.

Ryan Lemon [19:32]: "Eggs I'm not crazy over, but chicken. I definitely need the chicken."

Ryan Lemon [19:32]: "Eggs I'm not crazy over, but chicken. I definitely need the chicken."
Matt Jones [24:23]: "But it's not, like, about Christmas. Like, it's not about. It's a romantic song."
