Mario years going to come on here before the show is over and announce where it's going to be tonight. I hope he knows he has an hour left to pick the spot and not disappoint everyone in Fort Collins who wants to come watch the cats tonight.

Pressure's on Mario. He's he's been scoping it out. I believe in him. He's getting a good spot.

Well, we all decided whether or not we would pardon their sons. You were pretty adamant that. Well, pretty much. It was six zero. Everyone said they would pardon their son except you. You said you would pardon your son depending on what he did.

[Shannon]

That's right. If he did. Well, as you guys know, I have a son that's in jail. He did something pretty bad. I wouldn't pardon him. He deserves to be punished. So if they did something bad.

[Matt Jones]

So we spent like 30 minutes going, what would you pardon for? What wouldn't you?

[Shannon]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

And basically Ryan would pardon for anything that doesn't hurt anybody. Is that kind of how you are?

[Shannon]

True. Yes. Yeah. So Hunter's federal tax evasion. I probably would. If it was my son, I probably would pardon him.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah. But I think a lot of people, like, when I heard it, I was like, joe, you shouldn't have done that. And I still kind of lean that way. But at the same time, if it was your kid.

[Shannon]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

And they were sitting there looking at prison.

[Shannon]

That's right.

[Matt Jones]

You know, but you, but you. I think you made a good distinction between, like, what kind of crime.

[Shannon]

Yeah. If it's a violent crime or something, you absolutely deserve to be punished.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah. 802287 so let's talk about the game tonight. You feel good about us winning at Clemson?

[Eli]

I do. Especially now because as I said, it's all atmosphere for me. I think Kentucky's the better team. And just seeing that there's tickets available for what they are, makes me question how good it'll be. You know, Kentucky hasn't been in a true road environment, but they played Duke in a pretty rowdy Atlanta. I know a lot of that crowd was for them. So they've played away from Rut before. I think we'll be okay. But I do expect them to drop one of the two this week. So it's not like I'm just guaranteeing anything, but I feel pretty good about this.

[Matt Jones]

It'd be awesome to win this week, Shannon. And then if we lose, then we could go into the Gonzaga. It's almost a no lose situation.

[Max]

That's right.

[Matt Jones]

Like you're playing and if you want to win, but if you don't, it doesn't hurt you too much.

[Max]

Yeah. Not going to hurt at all when it comes time for March. If anything, it gets you ready for March. So, I mean, if you say, though, you got to drop one of the two games, I'd rather drop tonight and win in Seattle. I don't want to drive all the way out to Seattle to watch a loss and drive back or fly back. So.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, I mean, that's actually another good point. If you tell me we're going one and one. The NCAA has shown over the years they give you more credit in the tournament for good wins than bad losses or than harm for bad losses. So you would want to beat Gonzaga and lose to Clemson?

[Shannon]

I think that would be my pick. You beat Gonzaga, one of the top five teams in the country. It's going to help you at the end of the season. Yeah. When seasons come out.

[Matt Jones]

You were telling me that since you got to Kentucky, Max, you really haven't had a basketball team since you've been here. That kind of got everybody into it because you came. You were not here for 2017 team. You were here in 18. So basically, you saw the 18, 19 team. You basically lived through the worst of it. Do you. Are you. Are you excited about this group? Absolutely.

[Mario]

Can't fall out of a basement window, so the only way is up. We're gonna. I'm really looking forward to this Mark Pope coach team. I've actually enjoyed it. Watched the Duke game. I didn't get to watch last Fridays because I was coaching, but looking forward to these two games to see where we're at. I think, obviously, Ronnie really played the one difficult game so far, and we managed to come out on top. Although I wouldn't. I'd say we maybe didn't look better than them. We just kind of had a few things go our way. So I'm looking forward to these two games to see exactly where we're at.

[Matt Jones]

Let's talk about a couple of college basketball developments. Is Danny Hurley the biggest whiner you've ever seen?

[Shannon]

He's definitely pole vaulted way up that list. And just think, man, what if he'd been here? We'd stuck with that guy.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, but we would have defended him. I mean, that's the thing. One of the things you find is the older I get, the more I think this is true. In life, everything's relevant. Like, if he was here, we'd find a way to say it's okay. We'd be. We'd be like, I shouldn't do it, but Bobby, to be.

[Max]

Look at the passion our coach has.

[Matt Jones]

But being objective, neutral, because he's not here.

[Max]

He looks like a madman.

[Matt Jones]

Looks like a madman. You're in Maui, dude.

[Eli]

Yeah, we know we have Bahamas. Matt, where's Maui Dan? Out there. We also. I think it's Good. We have college basketball has a good villain again. The world united around them. That's true in Miami or Maui. And we were celebrating it. In addition to the clips of his losing, losing his mind on the ref, I just. We have a bad guy in college basketball.

[Matt Jones]

Maybe he was always like that. Shannon and I just, you know, it's weird with the teams in the Big East. Their games are not on espn, so you don't see them a lot. Like, it's easy to kind of forget them. And then you get in the tournament and the last two tournaments. I'm going to be honest with you, I've paid less attention to the last two NCAA tournaments than any because of just the way Kentucky was. So maybe I've just kind of missed. And he was a jerk all the time. But it does feel like that was obscene. Levels of jerk.

[Max]

Back to back games, too. You just won national titles back to back. You were in Maui. Well, how could life be so bad that you would be that angry about anything?

[Matt Jones]

I mean, the video, in some ways, the video of his coach holding back was worse than the one even before because it just showed how out of control he was.

[Mario]

He looked like an insane man. Like, it was. I mean, he's always been that kind of confident, loud guy, but it's just gone to a whole nother level. Now he's got two national champions and.

[Matt Jones]

They lost to what, Colorado, Memphis and Dayton. It's not like they lost to great teams.

[Shannon]

Maybe that's why they were winning all the games. Last couple years, we didn't get to see him lose his stuff.

[Matt Jones]

Now he also said after it was over, he went.03 in the Maui tournament. And he said, I'll never come back to one of these tournaments. He kind of, that's, you know, that was Cal's position. He said, I'll never come back. Then Matt Norlander did a story that basically said these tournaments are in trouble, including Maui. That teams are just like, why should we travel somewhere and pay all this money to go when we can host games at home or play on neutral sites. They basically, Matt Norlander's point was that the tournaments like Duke played in with Kansas and that those kind of things are going to be the future where they play like two games in a place and it's not even really a tournament.

[Max]

Kind of like our Big Blue Invitational.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, but even that's like just at home. He thinks the future is you go to, you know, wherever you go, to Vegas or whatever. You play two games, one of which is against a really Good team. One of which is against a mid major. And that's your tournament.

[Eli]

Yeah, there's already been a lot of those this year. I think there'll be more. Yesterday, talking to our guy at Iowa, Iowa did one of those we saw. I guess this wasn't a two game, but like Arkansas played Illinois and wherever that was, Kansas City or whatever it was. I think we'll see a lot more of those around the hall.

[Matt Jones]

That's a shame because I think the Maui Invitational is really good for college basketball. I mean, like, because of Dan Hurley and all that. Everyone was talking about it. Right. I mean, like, it was. It kind of put college basketball on the map a little bit at a time where it's very hard with all that's going on for people to pay attention to it.

[Shannon]

For what, 40 years, the Maui Invitational has been something that basketball fans can look forward to and watch all.

[Matt Jones]

And it's a perfect time. It's that Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday before Thanksgiving where people are only kind of working. It's like the perfect time for it to be on.

[Eli]

It's the perfect time of day because you get those late games or normally you don't have a good basketball game on. You can be in bed, you know, watching Auburn play North Carolina past midnight.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah. So I would hate to see that. Hate to see that happen. But that may be the future. You know, Pope has said he would play in it. The next time we can play in it is 2028. The field is. The field is set for 26 and 27. So we could play it in 2028. I've been told when it comes to UK basketball schedule that this is kind of the future. All right, you're going to play Louisville, obviously, every year you're going to play in the ACC SEC Challenge, which will be every year you're going to play in the Champions Classic. So those are the three you can kind of lay in. I think the CBS Classic goes away. I think there's two more years. I think we play this year and then maybe next year we play UCLA in it or whatever. And then I think it goes away. I don't think they renew that again. And then there are two years left in the Gonzaga series after this. Well, Kentucky plays in Nashville next year, that game will happen, but then I think the two games after that will get canceled. So I think we will play Gonzaga this year and then we'll play Nashville. I think they're going to recreate UK Indiana, and then I think they're going to have Kentucky play One other somebody either in a neutral site game or a home and home. And so that basically every year you get Champions Classic, Louisville, ACC game, Indiana and someone else. And that's your. That's your schedule. Do you like that as a schedule of non conference?

[Eli]

I think so. I'm really glad the CBS Classic is going away. Last year in Atlanta, uk, North Carolina, that was like a tournament game. But everyone before that, the crowd sucked. The game sucked. Feel like we lost games we shouldn't have. Get it out here. Indiana, that starts next year. That's on the schedule. We got four years of Kentucky Indiana coming back. So I know me and Ryan kind of grew up a part of that. We're both looking forward to that one coming back.

[Shannon]

I'm glad they're. That Pope wants to keep that too. You know, he was here when they're still there playing Indiana and they got some big, those big rivalry games now.

[Eli]

Yeah, they got to get better.

[Matt Jones]

I mean they don't like I don't want to play. That's not a game. Like, you know, we've had this conversation many times over the years, but to me it's like they're not. They stink.

[Shannon]

Yeah.

[Max]

And we were right saying Cal would never go back to Assembly Hall.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, that's right.

[Max]

We called that years ago.

[Matt Jones]

No, I mean he wasn't going to go back to assembly hall and. But now I think you can go with where we are now.

[Eli]

Well, when he scheduled it because Cal's the one that I think. Yeah, this was booked with Cal four years. Assembly hall is the fourth stop. We just assumed he was going to get out of it before the fourth one. It's Rupp and like Lucas Oil, then another neutral and then assembly hall is the very last one.

[Max]

But I like that schedule. I think maybe mix in a few more in state teams, which I think Pope would probably do. You know, for the small schools that we play.

[Matt Jones]

Well, I like the ACC Challenge because it sends you to arenas that you wouldn't normally go to and you're going to get teams in RUP that you wouldn't normally go to. The good thing is if we can get the CBS Classic over, then I think we'll play North Carolina a lot in that ACC Challenge. The problem is I don't know if we're ever going to get to play Duke in it because of the Champions Classic because of the way that the schedule works. So that'll at least give you North Carolina. So we're not always playing Clemson in Miami. Who's who. We've played the last couple years.

[Eli]

Yeah. Hopefully we'll get a Cameron indoor trip. One of the years you're playing Kansas or Michigan State. Maybe you just played Duke the year before. Then you can rotate him for two years, then play in the Champions Classic. Get something going there because I Cameron indoor for Kentucky game is very high on my college basketball bucket list.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, I'd love to see a Kentucky game there. I've seen many games there, but obviously not the Cats. Max, the Emirates NBA cup is here.

And what I heard him say was, we've made a gross miscalculation in recruiting talent without as much regard to character as we need to get.

[Matt Jones]

Well, he certainly said that. I mean, I thought that was a pretty big mission to say. I mean, when you go, we recruit people and we need to do better with the character. That shows that. I mean, by implication, Marc Anthony, that that's not what they were doing before.

[Mark Anthony]

Well, and I think that he. They intend. Or Mark Stoops intends to turn that around and go for character. And once that's been evaluated, then we'll look at the test. So what that means is we're going to end up with three star guys. We're not going to get.

[Matt Jones]

That's not necessarily going to get. I don't think that's true. Why do you think that? Everybody that's. I mean, there are teams full of guys that win that don't get in trouble all over college football. Why can't. There are those guys?

[Mark Anthony]

They used to be at Alabama and Georgia and they're not there so much anymore.

[Matt Jones]

Because there are those guys. I mean, there are those guys. Why do you assume that there's not a guy like. Let me. I mean, just think about all the guys over the years that we've had that were our best players. Randall Cobb, Chris Rodriguez, Benny Snell. Like, those dudes were good guys. Think of all the guys on defense. We've had a couple guys with some character issues, but most of them were good guys. Max, when you played most of that team, was good dudes, right? Absolutely.

[Mario]

Yeah. I mean, probably 99.9% of it.

[Matt Jones]

The guys on the offensive line that were the big blue wall. I think pretty much every one of those dudes. Mark Anthony was a high character guy.

[Mark Anthony]

So why can't you go get those character, Matt. High character.

But, but they also were talented. They played in the NFL.

[Mark Anthony]

Six of them. But what I'm saying is we get three star gas. But that's Stoop specialty anyhow. It always was. Development was always.

Yeah. And so, you know, it's, it's just not going to look like, I think that Stoops, he had seen himself as having reached the threshold of the Alabamas and the Georgias where you just get top five star talent and go to town. And even Alabama and Georgia ain't doing that now.

No, you're right. I mean he, there was no doubt that the arrogance. I appreciate the call. Arrogance had creeped into that facility. I think certainly amongst the players, even some coaches, I think they got, they became, you know. Well, I think they become, became complacent. I think I focused in when it was 20 to 7 and we got the ball and it looked like we might be able to do something and then we immediately turned it over. But there was. I'm not sure there's been a UK football game, Ryan, in a long time. I paid less attention to than I did that Louisville game.

I guess this is our UK confessional. I was at the game and left at halftime.

So did everybody else.

It is one of the, it is. Even in the bad joker years or whatever. Like I had no expectations. So it was just kind of part of the experience. I was drank, I was tuned, tuned out of that game against Louisville almost.

Immediately I was there so I had to be tuned in. But to Ryan's point, at halftime I went into the parking lot to talk to people that were leaving and it was just a flood. Walking out that front gate towards Nicholasville.

Number three in the country. The Arkansas Razorbacks, heard of them are going to Miami to play the Hurricanes. Miami has not been good this year. Miami is a five and a half or excuse me, Arkansas is a five and a half point favorite on the road. Does Cal get a road win? After starting with a couple losses, Miami.

Has lost three straight games including losing to Charleston Southern. If Arkansas doesn't win this, I'm putting his name in search and watching the replies coming out our But I'll pick them. They gotta win it.

Yeah, Miami's three and four with bad losses.

Miami plays zone. I don't think Arkansas has had a chance to work on that yet. I'll take Miami.

Oh, you're taking Miami? Yeah, I think I gotta take Arkansas as much as I'd like to take Miami. Arkansas wins cows teams they do.

They struggle at home and they go on the road and they beat somebody. So they're gonna win this.

All right, Arkansas and then I think the game of the night besides Kentucky, Clemson, Ole Miss, 23 in the country going on the road to play the Louisville Cardinals. Louisville hosting a ranked team. Louisville did well down in the Bahamas. Now they lost that guy, the dude I said look Davidson Prior, he's out for the year. Louisville's a 3 1/2 point favorite at home against Ole Miss.

[Eli]

I've watched Louisville play one time and prior look good. I even compliment him on the radio. I never say anything nice about Louisville. I think that'll be a big loss for them so I'll take Ole Miss. He was very good in the game I watched Louisville look a lot more.

[Mario]

Organized than the team photo earlier this year. So I'll take Louisville.

[Max]

Yeah, I mean Louisville look great against Indiana. Beat him for up I think almost 40 at one point. But I think losing Prior is going to hurt them. Ole Miss wins this game on the road.

[Shannon]

I'm going to take Louisville. I think they're better than we thought they were. I think they're pretty good team.

[Matt Jones]

This is tough because I gole miss is better, but Louisville's at home. You think they get a. Do you think they fill this game up? Like they have not filled anything up yet at you ranked team at home coming off a good tournament. Like, are they not going to fill it up?

[Eli]

I know they just beat Kentucky in football, so it sounds dumb to say now, but I genuinely think they're permanently broken as far as what it was before the big, you know, crazy.

[Matt Jones]

That's my biggest thing. Whoever wins. If you can't fill that game up for a ranked team at home on a weeknight, then you're not Louisville basketball anymore. You're just not. You gotta fill that up. Be Louisville shouldn't be like Clemson where we're coming and there's tickets for $20. You got to fill that up. Who's next?

Yeah, I really enjoyed that. I've never had any connection to Iowa. Never thought much about it, but just seeing how another school does it obviously wasn't as big as Kentucky's basketball Stuff, but I mean, it was a nice place.

Seeing behind the scenes yesterday, Ryan's tongue seemed like, was like the slobbering hog on that court.

Like I said, Clemson is a tough environment to play in. But I don't think they're the Clemson team they've had of years.
