This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Tuesday, January 7th. I, Matt Jones, here on an icy state of Kentucky in Louisville. Still stuck at my house but ready to venture out this afternoon. You can give a shout on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line, 859-280-2287. A Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-774-5254. In this dish and sponsored by the T.J. smith Law Office. You call T.J. he'll make them pay today. I'd love to. You know, there's. Because not a lot is happening because we're, we haven't done a lot because of the snow and ice. Love to hear from you today. 859-280-2287. We'll make it sort of a ask anything Tuesday since tomorrow is after a game. We'll probably be talking a lot about the game. So we'll do an ask anything Tuesday. 859-280-2287. Ryan yesterday after the show, I went outside, dug my car out, you know, did all that. I broke not one but two scrapers in doing it because the ice was so thick.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And, but then drove around a little bit. And I have to say this morning I got up and walked to get something to drink. And I think the roads are worse this morning than they were yesterday outside of like Bardstown Road, but like the side streets because it's all like a, it's all ice now. It's not. There's no snow in between. So it is, I think, pretty treacherous outside.
Ryan
Yeah. You know, you're stuck in Louisville. Drew, Billy and I all stuck in our houses in Lexington because of what you just said. The neighbors.
Matt Jones
I drove around. Are you, are you, like, scared to drive around? Like, get out of Your house?
Ryan
I just. It's just the neighborhood streets. If I can get to the main roads, I think it'll be okay. But just to get out of my neighborhood, to get to the main streets is what is. It's just like a skating rink out there in everybody's parking lot.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So have you tried.
Ryan
No, no, I.
Matt Jones
What are you waiting on? It's going to be like that for a long time. Like, you're going to have to get out. Shane, Isn't he going to have to get out and just do it?
Shannon
At some point you got to rip the band aid off, Right.
Matt Jones
I mean, it took me a long time and you know, I'm not a handy Shannon. Right. I had. Somebody gave me this long brush slash scraper thing.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt Jones
You know, and. And the ice was so thick, it. It snapped, Shannon. The metal in half.
Ryan
Yeah, that's.
Shannon
Yeah, that's how you know it's straight ice.
Matt Jones
But I still. I kept chipping away, right. I chipped away, got my car out. I drove last night to El Nepal. Shannon got our salsa that we can mix together.
Shannon
Right.
Matt Jones
That place was insane because again, not much. And then drove home. So, like I did. I was like, you got to get out. You can't just sit in here forever. Ryan, what are you waiting on? Like, it's going to be under 20 degrees for the next few days and it's supposed to snow on Friday. Are you just never leaving?
Ryan
I think it's just a safety for my own being and not get out on the roads. Like they're telling you, do not get on the road unless you have to.
Matt Jones
Are they still saying that, Shannon?
Shannon
I don't think so. Like, we got actually people in the station today. I talked to a few people. They said it's better now.
Matt Jones
I feel like. I feel like he's making an excuse.
Shannon
He just wants to stay home.
Matt Jones
Not to live in this. Like there are people out. Like, are you. But I'm just. What's going to be the thing that makes you leave? It's not going to get better.
Ryan
When I can see some. Some cards cars in my culdesac. Get out of it. I can go. But now they just go out and the wheels are just spinning. So I don't think I'm any, any, any hurry to get, you know, try to fight the elements. Like I said, if I can get to the main roads, it's good. It's just getting to them. Drew's the same way. Drew can't get out of his neighborhood this morning.
Shannon
Bunch of cars Were stuck. Yesterday, I went for a walk, and it was just car after car just spinning out. I didn't know whether to help him or just laugh at him, so I just laughed at him and walked.
Matt Jones
You thought about just laughing at. Just getting that? Just taunting them.
Shannon
I didn't, like, get up in their window, but I was kind of laughing.
Ryan
Shannon likes to talk smack. He's living the life, then. In a hotel downtown in Louisville.
Matt Jones
Well, but. But, Shannon, you're going.
Shannon
I. I've run out of underwear. I need a change of clothes. Yeah, I'm gonna go back.
Matt Jones
I feel like I. I mean, I'm not telling you what to do, Ryan. Except I am. I feel like you. You. You should. You should. Because here. Because, again, I don't know what you're waiting for. Like, they're not going to come scrape your street.
Ryan
Right.
Matt Jones
You live. Like, there'd be no reason for them to come over there. Like, you're one on the lowest priority.
Shannon
Well, you pay an HOA, though, right?
Ryan
Yeah, but that doesn't cover, I think snow removal.
Shannon
Oh, my gosh.
Matt Jones
What does it cover?
Ryan
Oh, you know, they got them. You know, the flowers they plant out front.
Matt Jones
Oh, that's good.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
You know what? You know what I would say to him? Shannon, you keep your flowers.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Get me out of my house.
Shannon
Amen.
Matt Jones
So it's good. So, like, what are you gonna do? I mean, are you just not. Are you just giving up forever? Do you have a shovel?
Ryan
I shoveled all the ice off my front porch so I don't bust my butt when I walk outside.
Matt Jones
Okay. So why not go ahead and do the driveway?
Ryan
I did the driveway, so I'm not doing the whole cul de sac. And the little hill that goes from Greendale up into my neighborhood where everybody can't get up right now.
Matt Jones
All right, so. So there's a hill that keeps you stuck, you're saying?
Ryan
Yeah. Yeah.
Shannon
I feel like it's a mess at Ryan's house. His dogs fell in the pool last night.
Matt Jones
I mean, you texted us and said your dogs fell in the pool. What does that mean?
Ryan
I was out banging the ice off the steps outside just so they could get up and down the steps, not knowing that my dog had, I guess, stepped on the ice in the pool and fell in. I didn't. I had no idea.
Shannon
Did you jump in and rescue it?
Ryan
No, he, like, paddled over to the pool. So he's just dead and got out by himself. And he came up to me, and he was soaking wet, and I. Look, I See where the ice had been broken on the top of the pool. I didn't even know he fell in.
Matt Jones
Dog fell into a freezing pool.
Ryan
Yeah. And got himself out.
Matt Jones
Why? Again, I know nothing about pools. But aren't you supposed to have it covered this time of year?
Ryan
The way my pool is shaped, you can't get a cover for it. Like, it would take like, two covers.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I bet you can't. Like, I bet. I bet they'd make one.
Shannon
Don't you think they would say so?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, I would think they would. So. So, I mean, if that had happened. So your dog got itself out.
Ryan
Got him. Yeah. Just paddled over to the steps and walked out the steps of the pool. And I had no idea. Unlucky. What if he'd fallen under the ice? Got under the ice?
Matt Jones
What's crazy, Shane, is I can't do. Do anything. You know that.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I have no ability to do anything. And yet I feel like I'm better prepared for this storm than he is. He has. He has pets, children falling into the pool. He has. Like, he can't get out of his driveway.
Shannon
The whole fiasco.
Matt Jones
It is a whole fiasco. And then Drew's the same way. I just. I don't know.
Ryan
Yeah. Drew and his dad stuck in their neighborhood.
Matt Jones
Here's what I know. There's one person who got out.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And that's me. Yeah, I got out.
Shannon
Yeah, I've been out.
Matt Jones
You've been out?
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
But I don't know about these guys. So. So it is frigid cold. Yeah. Like, I went outside. It's crazy cold. Like I said, the streets are ice now. It's supposed to get colder the next two days. Right. I saw that on Thursday it might get down to minus three.
Ryan
Yes. Yeah. Zero, I think is typical going to happen on Thursday and Friday.
Matt Jones
Minus three. Shit.
Shannon
Yeah. That means all this ice, it stays. And then we get more on Friday.
Matt Jones
So then it's supposed to snow more on Friday and Saturday. They are expecting 6 to 10 inches. Friday at the Cotton bowl in Dallas. You know, there's a playoff game Friday night.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And they are expecting 6 to 10 inches. Now, I have been in Dallas when it snow, and the city. You talk about people, Shannon, that don't know how to handle. They just immediately drive off the road just to make things easier for everybody. Like, they go straight. Drew and I were there when UK played Bailey.
Shannon
I remember that. Yeah.
Matt Jones
And. And it was. It was a disaster. So that's going to be fun to watch because they're Going to be. Just forget it. Like they have no chance. But here, you know, there is a. There's a part of me that goes like, are we just, like, is there just nothing for the next week? Is there absolutely nothing we can do? Are we just stuck? I mean, Ryan, seriously, when are you planning to get out of your house?
Ryan
I'm hoping maybe Monique or somebody with a truck can come get me for the, the game tonight.
Matt Jones
Monique is going to pick you up.
Ryan
She's got a big four wheel drive truck. If you got a big truck, you can come pick me up and take me to the restaurant.
Matt Jones
So he just wants random people to come pick him up.
Shannon
Ron, what do you drive? Don't you drive like an SUV car?
Ryan
I got a Chevy Excursion.
Matt Jones
Oh, and you don't think that can get up the hill?
Ryan
I haven't tried it yet.
Matt Jones
I mean my Lexus gets up these hills. I feel like that's the same thing, isn't it, Shannon?
Shannon
Yeah, pretty much. I mean you can. I think you can do it today, right?
Matt Jones
I think you can. I feel like if you put so. So Kentucky plays at seven, right. And we are opening the bar at three. So we're finally going to open back up at three because we want to be open for the game tonight. Now Ryan, you want to try to come to that, right?
Ryan
Yeah, we got a pregame show to do before the game tonight.
Matt Jones
We got a pregame show at 4:30. I mean, do you need me to send the Fayette County Metro services to get you? Because I'm planning Shannon to drive from Louisville to Lexington today.
Shannon
Yeah, if you can do that. And we had 10 and a half inches of snow here.
Matt Jones
Yeah, we had twice as much snow. And you're.
Ryan
Yeah, I remember about 10 years ago we had this bad storm and that at the time the I heart had some vehicles that were four wheel drive. They were coming to our houses and picking us up and taking us to the radio station to do the show.
Matt Jones
It's clear what he wants.
Shannon
He wants people to come to first class service.
Matt Jones
That's exactly right. He wants first class service.
Ryan
Shannon should drive here in his jeep.
Matt Jones
And pick me up and pick him up and take the little dainty princess out for the day.
Shannon
You've created this monster. He's bougie.
Matt Jones
Now, you know, he is bougie for somebody that you wouldn't think of as bougie. Right? He's a little bougie. You and I are men of the people.
Shannon
That's right.
Commercial Voice
Yeah.
Shannon
We get out there and shovel driveways.
Matt Jones
That's exactly right. All right. 859-280-2287. Kentucky plays at play at 7:00 on the SEC Network. Play Georgia. So I, because I was here and didn't have anything to do, I did some Georgia research.
Commercial Voice
Whoa.
Matt Jones
Yeah. They've only lost twice this year. They lost to Marquette, who you know is ranked in the top 10. And they lost Ole Miss last week. They were ahead at Ole Miss at halftime. Okay, Ole Miss is good. And they were ahead at halftime. Then Ole Miss came back and what I said yesterday, they have a top 10 pick on their team. They do. And it is not the one that Kentucky fans wrote me saying it was. So could they have that guy Somto.
Ryan
Cyril.
Matt Jones
Cyril, who originally committed to Cal here, if I'm correct. Right, right. He is not the projected top 10 pick. Matter of fact, he comes off the bench and he only plays 10 to 12 minutes. He might play a little more than that to this, but he. Their guy is their power forward, Asa Newell, who is projected ninth in the draft. He's averaging 16 and 12. He's been their leading score in five the last six games. Right. He's going to be guarded probably by Andrew Carr again. How do you expect us to match up with him?
Ryan
Yeah, he must be a really good player. I think he. The only reason he went to Georgia, because his older brother, it was already on the Georgia basketball team. Like you said, this is the top 10 pick that probably could have picked a bigger school, better basketball school, but he wanted to play for his brother. So he. I think he definitely proposes a matchup problem for Kentucky because we've seen Andrew Carr have some problems on defense.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, he's good. And they have guards. They have a number of guards. This is weird to me, Shannon. Of their three leading scores, two of them come off the bench.
Shannon
I mean, sounds like last year for us.
Matt Jones
You know what?
Commercial Voice
It does.
Shannon
Shepherd and Dunham, right.
Matt Jones
They have two guards. I think one of them's name is Montgomery. And then there's something else, but they have two guards who are the only two people besides Newell over averaging double digits. And they come off the bench, they don't even start. So when we watch the game tonight, you know, we have to watch. There'll be a second wave of guys who come off the bench, who light it up, who shoot well from the outside. You know, we, we shoot like what, 49% from the field. So do they. I mean, I knew this would be a tough game because it's on the road, but Ryan, I actually think it's harder maybe than I realized. When you break down the stats, this team beat St. John's earlier in the year. They won at Georgia Tech. A road game like Ryan, this is going to be a tough game tonight.
Ryan
Yeah. And Mike White's a good coach. That's one of those sneaky road games on a Tuesday night where you see teams and I maybe come out a little flat. Kind of concerns me a little bit because Georgia is a pretty good team that nobody talks about because the SEC is so top heavy right now.
Matt Jones
And they, they're having a T shirt night. Shannon White T shirts. Listen to what their schedule is. By the way, they play us tonight. They play Tennessee Saturday, number one in the country. And they play Auburn next Tuesday.
Shannon
Brutal stretch.
Matt Jones
They go. Kentucky, Tennessee, Auburn. And by the way, they played a ranked Ole Miss team in the first game. That's the crazy stretch. The number six team, the number one team, and then the number two team. That's as, that's as hard a stretch as you'll ever see basketball. And they're starting it right now, so. 859-280-2287. Text machine is 772-7745254. One person writes, Matt, I will come pick up Ryan if he needs it. Would he like me to bring him some ice cream or a soda on the way so that he gets full, full service?
Ryan
Yeah, that would be actually a sweet idea. What my plan is after the show is try to get in my car and just kind of see if I can get to the main road. I know once I get to the main road, I think I'm good.
Matt Jones
He's going to call us to come push him.
Shannon
He's going to get stuck.
Matt Jones
He is, by the way, some things in Jacksonville reporting, one of the leaders for the Jacksonville Jaguars job may be Liam Cohen. So what about that?
Shannon
He wouldn't stay one place for one year and no, he wouldn't do that.
Matt Jones
He may end up being an NFL coach after just having left here. We'll take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Turkey Sports Radio, 859-280-2287 Text Machine 772-774-52541 Person writes. Matt Ryan said he drove a Chevy Excursion. There is no such thing as a Chevy Excursion. Ford makes an Excursion.
Ryan
Yeah, it's an. Hang on. It's Equinox. I have an Equinox.
Shannon
He doesn't know what he drives.
Matt Jones
How long have you. How long have.
Ryan
Probably four years.
Matt Jones
So you've had the car for four years and you. You. You thought. Did you think it was an Excursion all these years? No.
Ryan
I don't know why I said that. It's an Equinox.
Matt Jones
So it's a Ford Equinox.
Ryan
A Chevy Equinox.
Matt Jones
So it's a Chevy Equinox.
Ryan
Yes.
Matt Jones
And you said Chevy Excursion?
Ryan
Yes.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Maybe he should stay home.
Shannon
Shannon, he doesn't know what he drives.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan
I gotta tell you something. I got a lot of people offering to pick me up, including Blind Andy, who says he's gonna drive up here.
Matt Jones
Okay, well, that may be just. That may be better.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt Jones
One of the people upset is your girlfriend, who wrote me and said that you had. That you're too old to be shoveling. So Shannon.
Shannon
She put the kibosh on that.
Matt Jones
She sent me five texts. The first one says, Ryan is almost 60. He doesn't need to be shoveling. So first of all, I don't think you're almost 60. You're only.
Ryan
What are you, 56, 58.
Shannon
Almost 60.
Matt Jones
You really are almost.
Shannon
Maybe you shouldn't be shoveling.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you know what? Just stay home and just stay in bed.
Shannon
Just get a blowtorch, go out there and.
Ryan
Yeah, it happens. Every snowstorm, there's somebody's gonna be out shelving snow and have a heart attack. It's sad.
Matt Jones
Well, you said that happened.
Shannon
It did, yeah.
Matt Jones
Where did that happen?
Shannon
I think in Louisville, guys. Just out, you know.
Matt Jones
Yeah. That's sad. Do you. Do you feel good about this game, Ryan? Do you feel like we're. I mean, you know. Let me just tell you how I break down the road games, okay? Because we have nine road games. We have two that I have no expectation of winning. Tennessee and Alabama. If we win those, that's awesome. But I have no expectation of winning. We have three that I feel like we should win. Obviously we could lose, but we should win. That's Missouri, Vandy, and this one. All right. And then we have four that I think are toss ups, but that it would be nice to pull out. I'd like to see us go two and two in those. Texas, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State. That's kind of how I look at it. So I put this one in the three that, like, you know, if you want to have a chance to win the sec, you got to win this game. How do you look at the game tonight?
Ryan
I feel like with these two road trips this week, you can't go on to. You got it.
Matt Jones
I agree with totally.
Ryan
You got at least got to split them. And tonight is the more winnable game. Saturday. Mississippi State is really good. So if you got it, if you're. If you, you know, you don't want to go, oh, and two, you got to win tonight, then I feel like.
Matt Jones
I think the. I think you're exactly right. I think you got to win one of these two. You got to win one of these two. Kind of my way of looking at it, Shannon, is I think we're going to go 12 and six in conference. And so, you know, if you could win every home game, you could go three and six on the road. I think you'll probably drop a home game or so. So I look at those four games, I was talking about Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Texas and Oklahoma and say every one of Those you win. Shannon, you could drop a home game and be okay. Right?
Commercial Voice
Right.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So. But I don't. I think this is one of the three, along with vanity in Missouri, that if you really want to have a shot, you gotta win this one. Because, I mean, it's not easy. We're only a two and a half point favorite. But if you're gonna, like, make noise in the conference, these are the kind of games you have to win.
Shannon
You gotta get this one. Rebounding is going to be key tonight, I think. And then Kobe Bray. I mean, we don't really know if he's even going to play tonight. And if they don't.
Matt Jones
Okay, so let's talk about. What is that? I don't know. I saw that and did I miss something?
Shannon
I mean, must have been in practice because he didn't show any signs of it in the game against Florida.
Matt Jones
Is he sick? Like, what is it?
Ryan
What? Maybe sick? No, I'm saying that's what I think. Something to come up out of the blue. No report of an injury. Maybe he just got a stomach bug or he's sick or something.
Shannon
Did we lose Matt May?
Ryan
We lost Matt.
Shannon
I think we did. Well, do we think that maybe he got that injury from holding that baby?
Matt Jones
I'm right here.
Shannon
He dropped out for like 10 seconds.
Matt Jones
I was here. I was saying, you know, that's why you got to be careful putting these people around children. Right?
Shannon
Because the same thing I said.
Matt Jones
Oh, was it? I didn't hear you say it. Yeah, because they all. They all have snot, you know, and they all. I'm telling you, there's never been a baby that didn't have snot. You have to. You. You have to be careful. But if we don't have Brea, then all of a sudden, you know, one of these other dudes, Ryan's gonna have to have a big game. Whether it's Jackson, Robinson or Butler or car. One of these other dudes is really gonna have to play better than normal.
Ryan
You know, you mentioned how Georgia brings guards off the bench. They provide a spark. Well, Kobe's the guy that comes off our bench, provides us with the spark, so. Yeah, that's true. Somebody else gonna have to step up and fill a void.
Matt Jones
Also, by the way, Vandy has that Tyron Lawrence guy. Excuse me. Georgia does that. Played at Vandy. That used to light us up. Didn't he have like one or two huge games against us, Shannon, over the years?
Shannon
He's a really good player. I didn't even realize he was still Playing college basketball. Didn't realize he's at Georgia.
Matt Jones
He's one of the starting guards. They got a lot of good guards and then they got a top 10 NBA draft pick big. And that's not even Counting the former UK commitment McDonald's all American, Cyril. So I mean this is a good roster we're playing tonight on a T shirt night.
Ryan
Do you think that car can handle this kid?
Matt Jones
No. They'll probably have to put Williams on him and Garrison, which is going to make us have to go big some, which I don't think is our most efficient offense. But that's just what we're going to have to do because this dude's a load and we've got to be able to to control it. Who's up first?
Shannon
Scotty.
Matt Jones
Scotty. What's up, Scotty? Hey, Matt, my ask anything question is in regards to the basketball practice facility. I know Cal complained about that his last few years the UK and I was just curious if you know what Mark Pope thinks about it. I don't know what Mark Pope thinks about it. You know, I think it's unlikely that we. I don't think they will fix. They will put up a new basketball facility unless a donor comes and just says I'll pay for all of it. I do not think the university will dedicate funds because of what we've talked about. The way so much money is now going to have to be transitioned to paying athletes, etc. I think it'll be a few years before they could do that. But if there was a donor that came and said I'll pay for all of it, then that might be a different thing. So do you think it needs to be updated? I didn't know if he was just complaining. Yeah, I mean it is not and I appreciate the call. It is not the best. It is not the best of the best. There are places that are better. But Ryan, I actually think the facilities thing probably matters less today than it did a few years ago because ultimately Nils, while a lot of these kids are making their decision, that's it.
Ryan
They're not going to base it on the living conditions. Like who is a Trey, what's his name? Did Trey Young. Trey Young. We downplayed Kentucky's living conditions. That's one reason he said he eliminated. That's not the case anymore. It's what kind of money? What's my best deal I can get.
Matt Jones
Yeah, so I mean I think facilities still matter. You still want to have top of the line. But I think that was a Key factor in kids decisions four years ago. Yeah, I don't think that's true anymore. So I don't think it's as pressing an issue maybe as it was. We will take a break. Be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. T.J. smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. he'll make them pay.
Shannon
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Shannon, this was inevitable.
Shannon
What's up?
Matt Jones
Probably 15 people writing me saying they're in their 60s and they shoveled their, their thing.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
One person writes, I'm 66. I shoveled my own snow. I know Ryan can do it. I feel it for him. Tell him he's got the power. And you two, you three sound like wimps. Well, first of all, how they throw us on. Yeah, we got, we got, we got out.
Shannon
I drove through a damn blizzard. Don't be called wimp.
Matt Jones
I drove to El Nepal. Think about that. Yeah, yeah.
Shannon
You got fajitas and salsa.
Matt Jones
One person writes, chevy, Ford Equinox has front wheel drive and four wheel drive. Does Ryan know which one he has?
Ryan
I. It's the one that doesn't go good in this, in the ice.
Shannon
That's his answer. Whichever one doesn't go, well, that's the one he's got.
Matt Jones
Well, you know, I mean, I, I think four wheel drive is the one that goes, yeah, yeah.
Ryan
Well, but when you get front wheel or real rear wheel, the other wheels just.
Matt Jones
You don't have four wheel drive.
Ryan
I have the rear wheel. My wheels just spin on ice.
Matt Jones
Okay, well, you, well, I'm sorry about that. I don't know what to say. I went. I wish you had it. One person writes, matt, I'm worried about tonight's game. We lose a game like this every year. I'm feeling like it'll be tonight because of the big win. I mean, it's certainly possible, Ryan. I mean, it's certainly plausible they could go down there and lose. I'm with you. They got to win one of these next two. I think it would be easier if you're playing with house money Saturday night.
Ryan
And I think it's going to be harder to win Saturday night because Mississippi State, we talked about it yesterday, plays away. That gives Kentucky problems. They don't know that's just the blueprint how to beat Kentucky. And that's the way they normally play. So if you're going to get one, tonight's the one you got to get.
Matt Jones
Then one person writes, matt, you're here. Today. So does that mean that you got the contract with I heart figured out? No, but because of the weather and Kentucky games, I'm not. I'm trying not to miss Shannon unless we have to. Right. I mean, you know, it's right now. Yeah. I mean, so I'm going to try to. I'm doing my best to try to work through it until we come up with something. So, you know. But if I don't show up one day, Shannon, now you'll know.
Shannon
Okay, well, we'll just, you know, carry the baton as long as we can until you get back.
Matt Jones
I mean, my hope is because it's during the season, you know, I don't want to miss a game tonight. Right. I don't want to. You know, I don't want to miss unless I have to. So we're. I'm trying to work through it as much as I can.
Ryan
What were you. I got it. I gotta admit, you sent us all group text last night. When I saw it pop in, it's the first thing that popped in my mind.
Matt Jones
I was gonna say I'm not gonna be there.
Ryan
Like I'm not gonna be there the show tomorrow, you know, stuck negotiating, you.
Matt Jones
Know, they do they send these a lot like Shannon, what is it like week long things, you know what I mean, to keep you going until you come to a resolution.
Shannon
Oh yeah, Like a little week long extension or something.
Matt Jones
Yeah, something like that. So hopefully we can do it tonight. Florida plays Tennessee. Tennessee goes to Florida.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So Florida comes off having come here and now Tennessee's the last undefeated team left in the country. Do they go down the night at Florida?
Ryan
Man, you know, we all watched him just run Arkansas off the floor after Kentucky beat Florida on Saturday. Tennessee is for real. But Florida also is pretty daggone good. They score 100 points and lost. I won't be shocked if Florida wins this game tonight.
Matt Jones
But who you pick it?
Ryan
Florida.
Matt Jones
You're picking Florida to win at home. Okay, what about you? You pick Shannon? You picking Tennessee to go on the road?
Shannon
I think, you know, like as good as the SEC is, there's two teams at the top, Tennessee and Auburn, who are just a little bit better than everybody else. And I think even on the road, as good as Florida has been, I think Tennessee wins tonight.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, for me this is a game to see if Tennessee and I. It hurts my soul to say it, but to see if they're the best team in the country. Because I think if they go down there and beat Florida on road, then they're going to be the best team in the country right now. I kind of think Auburn is, even though they lost that one game to Duke. But I'm going to pick Florida. Part of it might be the bias of having just seen them play.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt Jones
But I think, I think it's going to be hard to win on the road. You know they, there were eight games in the SEC this weekend. Only one road team won. Seven home teams. One. Does anybody know the one road team to win?
Shannon
Vandy.
Matt Jones
Vandy. Vandy is the only team that won on the road. They went and won at lsu. But I think you're going to see it's going to be so hard to win on the road that if the teams are even close to match up, I'm generally going to pick the home team. So I'm going to pick Florida tonight.
Ryan
Okay, go with this then. The number two team the country is Auburn. They're on the road tonight. Just number one.
Matt Jones
Number two, Texas.
Ryan
I'm blank at Texas.
Matt Jones
Yeah, now that, that's a tough one too. I mean I think I probably there's.
Ryan
Number one and number two.
Matt Jones
There's a chance that you could take Texas. I don't know. I don't know enough about Texas. I haven't watched them. I haven't watched them like intently. So I, I don't know. But it will be interesting. I mean you could have one and two both win.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Or they could both win these games and you go, okay, those are the two best teams in the country. So we'll see who's next.
Shannon
Radio Ron.
Matt Jones
Radio Ron, how are you?
Caller
Well, I'm fine man. Good morning to everyone. What a snow covered morning it is in Louisville as well, you know Matt.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it's everywhere.
Caller
Everywhere. I'm snowed in. A couple of comments. Thank you for bringing me up to date on the whereabouts of TJ Bisner. I remember of course when you left kstv he became the host and we worked together for four years with radio runs, Reflection and So he's in the big time with Belichick.
Matt Jones
Yes, he's hanging out with Belichick now.
Caller
And I wanted to tell you Matt, but couple of weeks ago in mid December I entered the and completed the Jingle Bell Jog 5K in Stanford. The Jingle Bell Jog, Jingle Bell Jog and Stanford And I got first place and I wanted to tell you I had one competitor.
Matt Jones
Oh okay, so you have one competitor and how old was the competitor?
Caller
87.
Matt Jones
And you're what again Ron? What are you again?
Caller
90 to infinity. They Made a new category for me.
Matt Jones
All right, so you put, you ran against the 87 year old. How much did you beat him by the jingle bell jog?
Caller
Five minutes.
Matt Jones
Did you talk trash to him?
Caller
Yeah, I raised my hands and I said, good luck young man, in future races.
Matt Jones
Oh, wow. That's a little. That's a little saucy, isn't it, Shannon?
Shannon
I know it.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Caller
I'm becoming more saucy in my old age.
Matt Jones
Yes, you are. Just keep it tame there, Ron. Well, it's good to hear from you. Congrats on your jingle bell jog victory and good luck going forward.
Caller
Well, thank you. Guess who was running with me all the way?
Matt Jones
Larry Vaughn.
Caller
You know him? Yes, Larry Vaughn.
Matt Jones
I just figured it out. I just. That was, I just. That was a good guess. Rod. Thank you very much. I appreciate the call. Who's up next? Shannon?
Shannon
Let's go to Doug.
Matt Jones
Doug, go ahead, Doug.
Caller
Yeah, man. I'm calling reference to your show yesterday and about the politicians wearing a name tag. Yes, I. I actually have a belt with my name on it. My son said that's in case I get lost.
Matt Jones
Are you a politician?
Caller
No, sir. No, not hardly.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Caller
But I am 76, so. 76 years old and I did shovel my driveway.
Shannon
If Doug and radio Ron can shovel their driveway, Ryan, so can you.
Ryan
So Doug, I did shovel my driveway.
Matt Jones
So Doug, do you believe that, that Ryan can get out of his house?
Caller
Absolutely.
Matt Jones
Listen to that.
Shannon
You getting trash talk about.
Matt Jones
I mean, you've got Doug, you got 93 year old Ron running in the jingle bell jog and 76 year old Doug Ryan, do you hear these people? Aren't they inspirations?
Ryan
You can be a hundred year old guy and if your car still can't drive on the ice, then there's nothing you can do about it.
Shannon
Here's excuses.
Caller
I'm going to get out today and I'm going in about an hour. I'm going to go to the gym.
Matt Jones
Look at that Doug. Go get him, Doug. Do your thing, Doug. Be careful. I appreciate the call, Doug. Going to the gym at 76.
Ryan
Good for him, man. Good for him.
Matt Jones
Dude, that's.
Shannon
Man, these guys are showing you up, Ryan. They're showing.
Ryan
They're not showing me up. I got out and shoveled my driveway. I just can't drive on the ice.
Matt Jones
Well then why did your girlfriend write me and say don't tell him to shovel?
Ryan
I don't know, but I did it.
Matt Jones
Do you believe that?
Shannon
I don't know. Take a picture and show us.
Ryan
All right. I'll take a picture out my window.
Shannon
Okay.
Matt Jones

It is Techie Sports Radio 859-280-2287 Text Machine 772-774-52541 Person writes mat I sell Chevy's for a living. There is no such thing as a rear wheel drive Chevy Equinox. They either come four wheel drive or front wheel drive.
Ryan
It's definitely not four wheel drive so it must be front wheel drive.
Matt Jones
So so far if you had asked Ryan, he believed he drove a Chevy Excursion real rear wheel drive yeah. And he actually drove a Chevy Equinox, likely front wheel drive.
Shannon
To be fair, he sells houses, not cars, so.
Matt Jones
That's true.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Apparently if your rear wheels spin, Ryan, that makes it a front wheel drive.
Ryan
That's what. That's what I got then. Okay, see, I thought that meant rear rear wheel. If your wheels are the ones doing all the turning, it would have make a rear wheel drive. But my rear wheel.
Matt Jones
Okay, that's enough of you saying rear wheel. One person writes, matt, I'm a UPS driver and I'm out right now. I'll take up for Ryan like this. While he probably could get out, I would argue you shouldn't get out because a lot of the neighborhoods are still terrible.
Ryan
I think I said if I can get to Greendale or lease Town Road, I'm fine. But just getting there from my house is what's going to be the trick.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So our football, real quick, our football transfer class, this kid we got from Washington State. What's his name? Ryan David Gusta.
Ryan
Yeah, I'm not sure. I'm really not sure how to pronounce his last name.
Matt Jones
Well, he's from Washington state. ESPN has him ranked as the 22nd best player overall in the Portal. He is our highest ranked player we've gotten and on three now has us has having the eighth highest class in the Portal. So I know it's hard to be positive or excited about football right now. I totally get that. But it looks like the portal has been successful. And I had one person that does football recruiting nationally say to me, matt, if you take out the loss of Dane Key, because this person thought that was an important loss, that if you take that out, Kentucky has significantly improved their football team based on last year. Now, this person thought the key loss was Shannon Key, right?
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
But, you know, so that gave me some positivity, Ryan, that even though we don't know who these players are, you know, they got two of the top 50 guys. The lineman from Bowling Green, offensive lineman was a top 50 guy. And then this kid from Washington State, you know, again, we won't know. And it's hard to get excited, but at least there's some positivity. Positive news about the football transfer. Yeah.
Ryan
You think just in the transfer portal they got potentially five starting offensive linemen, potential starting quarterback, potential starting running back, a receiver, these guys on defense you're talking about. So yeah, there is a lot of new faces that should get you a little excited about what they could do next year.
Matt Jones
Would you feel better if the quarterback was somebody that was highly touted, or would you say, well, we've gotten a highly touted guy the last two years and it hasn't even worked.
Ryan
I guess we just got to put our trust in Bush and he got the guy that he thinks can fit his system the best. Because even though we were all excited about Vandergriff last year, it just didn't. It just didn't work this season as well. We thought it was going to. Leary was kind of the same way.
Matt Jones
I mean, I guess everything is just wait and see with these portal. Yeah, I will say, though, that stat about. Did I tell you that the stat about the. Did we talk about yesterday about the four teams in the playoff and where their players came from?
Shannon
No, we didn't.
Matt Jones
Okay, so I saw a stat, I want to say, of the. Of the four teams that are in the playoffs, the 25 starters. So basically offense, defense, special teams. Of the four teams, that's 100 players. That 92 of the hundred started with that program.
Ryan
Wow. No kidding.
Matt Jones
That's a lot. Wow, that's a lot. And it kind of goes counter to this idea. You can just get everything you want in the port. Now, I haven't checked those numbers. That number may be off by just a little bit, but it was still a significant amount of people in these poor. In these classes started with these programs. So.
Ryan
So for the people that want to say, you know, recruit and develop, that gives them a little strength in their argument. Now, for sure, maybe in football it's.
Matt Jones
Even more important than basketball, which I actually think that's probably true, to be honest. Because in basketball, if you get a star as a freshman, he's gone. But in football, star as a freshman still has to stay. So maybe, you know, maybe actually getting your own guys is the key to doing it. Who's up next?
Shannon
Mac.
Matt Jones
Mac. Go ahead. Mac. Mac. Hey, guys.
Commercial Voice
Hope you're doing well.
Matt Jones
Thank you. These current weather conditions you all are dealing with, I think just a sign you guys shouldn't move out to Colorado. You don't have to deal with no ice. You all have snow, don't you? I feel like Colorado, they have the ski slopes. Don't you all have snow, too? Yeah, man, but it's like the nice dry snow. No ice. You can drive, things stay open. You can get your kangaroo tacos. So you don't have. You all don't have ice in Colorado? No, no, it's like a dry snow. I mean. I mean, occasionally, but not like. Not like in Kentucky. I grew up in Virginia. So I know what it's like. Like every time it snows, it's really wet. But yeah, man, out here is always fun. Yeah, but they would be hard to do. Kentucky sports radio, Shannon in Colorado. That would be a little bit more. That would be a little bit more difficult. But yeah. Anything else?
Shannon
We had 50 people in Fort Collins.
Matt Jones
We did. That's right. I was there in Fort Collins. Glad you guys came through. Well, I appreciate it. Thank you very much. Yeah, I mean, we get. One of the things about Kentucky is. I do think you get Shannon, like every kind of weather. It gets really hot here in the summer. We get snow, we get rain. You know, I feel like this is a place where you get everything. I don't know how many places are like that in America where you get like every season.
Ryan
Yeah, you get a beautiful spring, a beautiful fall, and then like you may end up with a winter where you actually get to see some snow.
Shannon
What do they always say about, like, if you don't like the weather to stick around?
Matt Jones
Is that what they say?
Shannon
Because it's gonna, it's gonna change about next week. You'll get a completely different experience.
Matt Jones
No, I mean Kentucky is one like. I think we get everything. I'm not sure how many places get everything. We get everything here. And I do think that's kind of a cool thing. Who's next?
Shannon
Joseph.
Matt Jones
Joseph. What's up, Joseph?
Ryan
Hey, Matt.
Caller
Appreciate taking my call. I gotta ask anything. Legal question, but real fast. You know, if you watch like Monday Night Football, a lot of those starters say what college they went to. A lot of them went to mid major colleges. More than you think. Whenever you hear the names right off there.
Matt Jones
So you're right. They.
Caller
I don't mind taking.
Matt Jones
I don't know if that'll still be the case in 10 years because I think a lot of those mid majors will play their final year at a big school. But it may be. We'll see.
Caller
And my legal question is, you know, if you have someone park in your parking lot and they don't utilize your business, sometimes the business will have them towed away. Yes, and I get that because they're not patronizing your business. But what if you tow someone's car that is patronizing your business? Explain to me how that's not.
Matt Jones
You still can because like the, the owner of the lot, it's a private lot, they don't have to let anyone park there. Now. I mean, it's bad business to tow people that were in your business. Clearly. Because it'll make people not want to come. But from a legal perspective, you know, you're not entitled to park anywhere in a private lot. So I mean, most businesses, if they do it mistakenly, a lot of them will try to do something to make you feel good. But in general, unless a city has specific laws to the contrary, which I don't know if Lexington or Louisville do, I don't know city parking laws. But in general, it's private property and you're not entitled to park anywhere without the person's permission. And if they made a mistake, it's still their property. So it's ultimately up to them to whether or not they, they fix it for you. Okay. I didn't realize that.
Caller
I assumed that if you are patronizing a business that there's some sort of like, agreement in place.
Matt Jones
There might be a parking lot. Yeah, there might be a city law in some places that has that. I wouldn't be surprised if there is. But just in general, you know, if I go to Shannon's house and I park in Shannon's driveway and while I'm in his house, he decides to tell me that's kind of his right, even though it would be a jerk move.
Shannon
To do totally something you could see me doing, though.
Matt Jones
I could totally see you doing that. You're one of the people I think I could totally see doing that. So I appreciate the call 859-280-2287. We'll take a break. Come back.
