And, but then drove around a little bit. And I have to say this morning I got up and walked to get something to drink. And I think the roads are worse this morning than they were yesterday outside of like Bardstown Road, but like the side streets because it's all like a, it's all ice now. It's not. There's no snow in between. So it is, I think, pretty treacherous outside.

[Ryan]

Yeah. You know, you're stuck in Louisville. Drew, Billy and I all stuck in our houses in Lexington because of what you just said. The neighbors.

[Matt Jones]

I drove around. Are you, are you, like, scared to drive around? Like, get out of Your house?

[Ryan]

I just. It's just the neighborhood streets. If I can get to the main roads, I think it'll be okay. But just to get out of my neighborhood, to get to the main streets is what is. It's just like a skating rink out there in everybody's parking lot.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah. So have you tried.

[Ryan]

No, no, I.

[Matt Jones]

What are you waiting on? It's going to be like that for a long time. Like, you're going to have to get out. Shane, Isn't he going to have to get out and just do it?

[Shannon]

At some point you got to rip the band aid off, Right.

[Matt Jones]

I mean, it took me a long time and you know, I'm not a handy Shannon. Right. I had. Somebody gave me this long brush slash scraper thing.

[Ryan]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

You know, and. And the ice was so thick, it. It snapped, Shannon. The metal in half.

[Ryan]

Yeah, that's.

[Shannon]

Yeah, that's how you know it's straight ice.

[Matt Jones]

But I still. I kept chipping away, right. I chipped away, got my car out. I drove last night to El Nepal. Shannon got our salsa that we can mix together.

[Shannon]

Right.

[Matt Jones]

That place was insane because again, not much. And then drove home. So, like I did. I was like, you got to get out. You can't just sit in here forever. Ryan, what are you waiting on? Like, it's going to be under 20 degrees for the next few days and it's supposed to snow on Friday. Are you just never leaving?

[Ryan]

I think it's just a safety for my own being and not get out on the roads. Like they're telling you, do not get on the road unless you have to.

[Matt Jones]

Are they still saying that, Shannon?

[Shannon]

I don't think so. Like, we got actually people in the station today. I talked to a few people. They said it's better now.

[Matt Jones]

I feel like. I feel like he's making an excuse.

[Shannon]

He just wants to stay home.

[Matt Jones]

Not to live in this. Like there are people out. Like, are you. But I'm just. What's going to be the thing that makes you leave? It's not going to get better.

[Ryan]

When I can see some. Some cards cars in my culdesac. Get out of it. I can go. But now they just go out and the wheels are just spinning. So I don't think I'm any, any, any hurry to get, you know, try to fight the elements. Like I said, if I can get to the main roads, it's good. It's just getting to them. Drew's the same way. Drew can't get out of his neighborhood this morning.

[Shannon]

Bunch of cars Were stuck. Yesterday, I went for a walk, and it was just car after car just spinning out. I didn't know whether to help him or just laugh at him, so I just laughed at him and walked.

[Matt Jones]

You thought about just laughing at. Just getting that? Just taunting them.

[Shannon]

I didn't, like, get up in their window, but I was kind of laughing.

[Ryan]

Shannon likes to talk smack. He's living the life, then. In a hotel downtown in Louisville.

[Matt Jones]

Well, but. But, Shannon, you're going.

[Shannon]

I. I've run out of underwear. I need a change of clothes. Yeah, I'm gonna go back.

[Matt Jones]

I feel like I. I mean, I'm not telling you what to do, Ryan. Except I am. I feel like you. You. You should. You should. Because here. Because, again, I don't know what you're waiting for. Like, they're not going to come scrape your street.

[Ryan]

Right.

[Matt Jones]

You live. Like, there'd be no reason for them to come over there. Like, you're one on the lowest priority.

[Shannon]

Well, you pay an HOA, though, right?

[Ryan]

Yeah, but that doesn't cover, I think snow removal.

[Shannon]

Oh, my gosh.

[Matt Jones]

What does it cover?

[Ryan]

Oh, you know, they got them. You know, the flowers they plant out front.

[Matt Jones]

Oh, that's good.

[Shannon]

Yeah.

You know what? You know what I would say to him? Shannon, you keep your flowers.

So it's good. So, like, what are you gonna do? I mean, are you just not. Are you just giving up forever? Do you have a shovel?

I shoveled all the ice off my front porch so I don't bust my butt when I walk outside.

[Matt Jones]

Okay. So why not go ahead and do the driveway?

[Ryan]

I did the driveway, so I'm not doing the whole cul de sac. And the little hill that goes from Greendale up into my neighborhood where everybody can't get up right now.

[Matt Jones]

All right, so. So there's a hill that keeps you stuck, you're saying?

[Ryan]

Yeah. Yeah.

[Shannon]

I feel like it's a mess at Ryan's house. His dogs fell in the pool last night.

[Matt Jones]

I mean, you texted us and said your dogs fell in the pool. What does that mean?

[Ryan]

I was out banging the ice off the steps outside just so they could get up and down the steps, not knowing that my dog had, I guess, stepped on the ice in the pool and fell in. I didn't. I had no idea.

[Shannon]

Did you jump in and rescue it?

[Ryan]

No, he, like, paddled over to the pool. So he's just dead and got out by himself. And he came up to me, and he was soaking wet, and I. Look, I See where the ice had been broken on the top of the pool. I didn't even know he fell in.

[Matt Jones]

Dog fell into a freezing pool.

[Ryan]

Yeah. And got himself out.

[Matt Jones]

Why? Again, I know nothing about pools. But aren't you supposed to have it covered this time of year?

[Ryan]

The way my pool is shaped, you can't get a cover for it. Like, it would take like, two covers.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, I bet you can't. Like, I bet. I bet they'd make one.

[Shannon]

Don't you think they would say so?

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, I mean, I would think they would. So. So, I mean, if that had happened. So your dog got itself out.

[Ryan]

Got him. Yeah. Just paddled over to the steps and walked out the steps of the pool. And I had no idea. Unlucky. What if he'd fallen under the ice? Got under the ice?

[Matt Jones]

What's crazy, Shane, is I can't do. Do anything. You know that.

[Shannon]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

I have no ability to do anything. And yet I feel like I'm better prepared for this storm than he is. He has. He has pets, children falling into the pool. He has. Like, he can't get out of his driveway.

[Shannon]

The whole fiasco.

[Matt Jones]

It is a whole fiasco. And then Drew's the same way. I just. I don't know.

[Ryan]

Yeah. Drew and his dad stuck in their neighborhood.

[Matt Jones]

Here's what I know. There's one person who got out.

[Shannon]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

And that's me. Yeah, I got out.

[Shannon]

Yeah, I've been out.

[Shannon]

But I don't know about these guys. So. So it is frigid cold. Yeah. Like, I went outside. It's crazy cold. Like I said, the streets are ice now. It's supposed to get colder the next two days. Right. I saw that on Thursday it might get down to minus three.

[Ryan]

Yes. Yeah. Zero, I think is typical going to happen on Thursday and Friday.

[Matt Jones]

Minus three. Shit.

[Shannon]

Yeah. That means all this ice, it stays. And then we get more on Friday.

[Matt Jones]

So then it's supposed to snow more on Friday and Saturday. They are expecting 6 to 10 inches. Friday at the Cotton bowl in Dallas. You know, there's a playoff game Friday night.

[Ryan]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

And they are expecting 6 to 10 inches. Now, I have been in Dallas when it snow, and the city. You talk about people, Shannon, that don't know how to handle. They just immediately drive off the road just to make things easier for everybody. Like, they go straight. Drew and I were there when UK played Bailey.

[Shannon]

I remember that. Yeah.

And. And it was. It was a disaster. So that's going to be fun to watch because they're Going to be. Just forget it. Like they have no chance. But here, you know, there is a. There's a part of me that goes like, are we just, like, is there just nothing for the next week? Is there absolutely nothing we can do? Are we just stuck? I mean, Ryan, seriously, when are you planning to get out of your house?

I'm hoping maybe Monique or somebody with a truck can come get me for the, the game tonight.

[Matt Jones]

Monique is going to pick you up.

[Ryan]

She's got a big four wheel drive truck. If you got a big truck, you can come pick me up and take me to the restaurant.

So he just wants random people to come pick him up.

[Shannon]

Ron, what do you drive? Don't you drive like an SUV car?

[Ryan]

I got a Chevy Excursion.

Oh, and you don't think that can get up the hill?

I haven't tried it yet.

I mean my Lexus gets up these hills. I feel like that's the same thing, isn't it, Shannon?

Yeah, pretty much. I mean you can. I think you can do it today, right?

[Matt Jones]

I think you can. I feel like if you put so. So Kentucky plays at seven, right. And we are opening the bar at three. So we're finally going to open back up at three because we want to be open for the game tonight. Now Ryan, you want to try to come to that, right?

Yeah, we got a pregame show to do before the game tonight.

[Matt Jones]

We got a pregame show at 4:30. I mean, do you need me to send the Fayette County Metro services to get you? Because I'm planning Shannon to drive from Louisville to Lexington today.

[Shannon]

Yeah, if you can do that. And we had 10 and a half inches of snow here.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, we had twice as much snow. And you're.

[Ryan]

Yeah, I remember about 10 years ago we had this bad storm and that at the time the I heart had some vehicles that were four wheel drive. They were coming to our houses and picking us up and taking us to the radio station to do the show.

[Matt Jones]

It's clear what he wants.

[Shannon]

He wants people to come to first class service.

[Matt Jones]

That's exactly right. He wants first class service.

[Ryan]

Shannon should drive here in his jeep.

[Matt Jones]

And pick me up and pick him up and take the little dainty princess out for the day.

[Shannon]

You've created this monster. He's bougie.

Now, you know, he is bougie for somebody that you wouldn't think of as bougie. Right? He's a little bougie. You and I are men of the people.

Yeah. They've only lost twice this year. They lost to Marquette, who you know is ranked in the top 10. And they lost Ole Miss last week. They were ahead at Ole Miss at halftime. Okay, Ole Miss is good. And they were ahead at halftime. Then Ole Miss came back and what I said yesterday, they have a top 10 pick on their team. They do. And it is not the one that Kentucky fans wrote me saying it was. So could they have that guy Somto.

[Ryan]

Cyril.

[Matt Jones]

Cyril, who originally committed to Cal here, if I'm correct. Right, right. He is not the projected top 10 pick. Matter of fact, he comes off the bench and he only plays 10 to 12 minutes. He might play a little more than that to this, but he. Their guy is their power forward, Asa Newell, who is projected ninth in the draft. He's averaging 16 and 12. He's been their leading score in five the last six games. Right. He's going to be guarded probably by Andrew Carr again. How do you expect us to match up with him?

[Ryan]

Yeah, he must be a really good player. I think he. The only reason he went to Georgia, because his older brother, it was already on the Georgia basketball team. Like you said, this is the top 10 pick that probably could have picked a bigger school, better basketball school, but he wanted to play for his brother. So he. I think he definitely proposes a matchup problem for Kentucky because we've seen Andrew Carr have some problems on defense.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, I mean, he's good. And they have guards. They have a number of guards. This is weird to me, Shannon. Of their three leading scores, two of them come off the bench.

[Shannon]

I mean, sounds like last year for us.

[Matt Jones]

You know what?

Shepherd and Dunham, right.

[Matt Jones]

They have two guards. I think one of them's name is Montgomery. And then there's something else, but they have two guards who are the only two people besides Newell over averaging double digits. And they come off the bench, they don't even start. So when we watch the game tonight, you know, we have to watch. There'll be a second wave of guys who come off the bench, who light it up, who shoot well from the outside. You know, we, we shoot like what, 49% from the field. So do they. I mean, I knew this would be a tough game because it's on the road, but Ryan, I actually think it's harder maybe than I realized. When you break down the stats, this team beat St. John's earlier in the year. They won at Georgia Tech. A road game like Ryan, this is going to be a tough game tonight.

[Ryan]

Yeah. And Mike White's a good coach. That's one of those sneaky road games on a Tuesday night where you see teams and I maybe come out a little flat. Kind of concerns me a little bit because Georgia is a pretty good team that nobody talks about because the SEC is so top heavy right now.

[Matt Jones]

And they, they're having a T shirt night. Shannon White T shirts. Listen to what their schedule is. By the way, they play us tonight. They play Tennessee Saturday, number one in the country. And they play Auburn next Tuesday.

They go. Kentucky, Tennessee, Auburn. And by the way, they played a ranked Ole Miss team in the first game. That's the crazy stretch. That's kind of how I look at it. So I put this one in the three that, like, you know, if you want to have a chance to win the sec, you got to win this game. How do you look at the game tonight?

I feel like with these two road trips this week, you can't go on to. You got it.

You got at least got to split them. And tonight is the more winnable game. Saturday. Mississippi State is really good. So if you got it, if you're. If you, you know, you don't want to go, oh, and two, you got to win tonight, then I feel like.

I think the. I think you're exactly right. I think you got to win one of these two. You got to win one of these two. Kind of my way of looking at it, Shannon, is I think we're going to go 12 and six in conference. And so, you know, if you could win every home game, you could go three and six on the road. I think you'll probably drop a home game or so. So I look at those four games, I was talking about Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Texas and Oklahoma and say every one of Those you win. Shannon, you could drop a home game and be okay. Right?

Also, by the way, Vandy has that Tyron Lawrence guy. Excuse me. Georgia does that. Played at Vandy. That used to light us up. Didn't he have like one or two huge games against us, Shannon, over the years?

He's one of the starting guards. They got a lot of good guards and then they got a top 10 NBA draft pick big. And that's not even Counting the former UK commitment McDonald's all American, Cyril. So I mean this is a good roster we're playing tonight on a T shirt night.

No. They'll probably have to put Williams on him and Garrison, which is going to make us have to go big some, which I don't think is our most efficient offense. But that's just what we're going to have to do because this dude's a load and we've got to be able to to control it. Who's up first?

I know Cal complained about that his last few years the UK and I was just curious if you know what Mark Pope thinks about it. I don't know what Mark Pope thinks about it. You know, I think it's unlikely that we. I don't think they will fix. They will put up a new basketball facility unless a donor comes and just says I'll pay for all of it. I do not think the university will dedicate funds because of what we've talked about. The way so much money is now going to have to be transitioned to paying athletes, etc. I think it'll be a few years before they could do that. But if there was a donor that came and said I'll pay for all of it, then that might be a different thing. So do you think it needs to be updated? I didn't know if he was just complaining. Yeah, I mean it is not and I appreciate the call. It is not the best. It is not the best of the best. There are places that are better. But Ryan, I actually think the facilities thing probably matters less today than it did a few years ago because ultimately Nils, while a lot of these kids are making their decision, that's it.

They're not going to base it on the living conditions. Like who is a Trey, what's his name? Did Trey Young. Trey Young. We downplayed Kentucky's living conditions. That's one reason he said he eliminated. That's not the case anymore. It's what kind of money? What's my best deal I can get.

Man, you know, we all watched him just run Arkansas off the floor after Kentucky beat Florida on Saturday. Tennessee is for real. But Florida also is pretty daggone good. They score 100 points and lost. I won't be shocked if Florida wins this game tonight.

But who you pick it?

Florida.

You're picking Florida to win at home. Okay, what about you? You pick Shannon? You picking Tennessee to go on the road?

I think, you know, like as good as the SEC is, there's two teams at the top, Tennessee and Auburn, who are just a little bit better than everybody else. And I think even on the road, as good as Florida has been, I think Tennessee wins tonight.

Yeah, I mean, for me this is a game to see if Tennessee and I. It hurts my soul to say it, but to see if they're the best team in the country. Because I think if they go down there and beat Florida on road, then they're going to be the best team in the country right now. I kind of think Auburn is, even though they lost that one game to Duke. But I'm going to pick Florida. Part of it might be the bias of having just seen them play.

Yeah.

But I think, I think it's going to be hard to win on the road. You know they, there were eight games in the SEC this weekend. Only one road team won. Seven home teams. One. Does anybody know the one road team to win?

Vandy.

Vandy. Vandy is the only team that won on the road. They went and won at lsu. But I think you're going to see it's going to be so hard to win on the road that if the teams are even close to match up, I'm generally going to pick the home team. So I'm going to pick Florida tonight.

Okay, go with this then. The number two team the country is Auburn. They're on the road tonight. Just number one.

I think I said if I can get to Greendale or lease Town Road, I'm fine. But just getting there from my house is what's going to be the trick.

Yeah. So our football, real quick, our football transfer class, this kid we got from Washington State. What's his name? Ryan David Gusta.

Yeah, I'm not sure. I'm really not sure how to pronounce his last name.

[Matt Jones]

Well, he's from Washington state. ESPN has him ranked as the 22nd best player overall in the Portal. He is our highest ranked player we've gotten and on three now has us has having the eighth highest class in the Portal. So I know it's hard to be positive or excited about football right now. I totally get that. But it looks like the portal has been successful. And I had one person that does football recruiting nationally say to me, matt, if you take out the loss of Dane Key, because this person thought that was an important loss, that if you take that out, Kentucky has significantly improved their football team based on last year. Now, this person thought the key loss was Shannon Key, right?

[Shannon]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

But, you know, so that gave me some positivity, Ryan, that even though we don't know who these players are, you know, they got two of the top 50 guys. The lineman from Bowling Green, offensive lineman was a top 50 guy. And then this kid from Washington State, you know, again, we won't know. And it's hard to get excited, but at least there's some positivity. Positive news about the football transfer. Yeah.

[Ryan]

You think just in the transfer portal they got potentially five starting offensive linemen, potential starting quarterback, potential starting running back, a receiver, these guys on defense you're talking about. So yeah, there is a lot of new faces that should get you a little excited about what they could do next year.

[Matt Jones]

Would you feel better if the quarterback was somebody that was highly touted, or would you say, well, we've gotten a highly touted guy the last two years and it hasn't even worked.

[Ryan]

I guess we just got to put our trust in Bush and he got the guy that he thinks can fit his system the best. Because even though we were all excited about Vandergriff last year, it just didn't. It just didn't work this season as well. We thought it was going to. Leary was kind of the same way.

[Matt Jones]

I mean, I guess everything is just wait and see with these portal. Yeah, I will say, though, that stat about. Did I tell you that the stat about the. Did we talk about yesterday about the four teams in the playoff and where their players came from?

[Shannon]

No, we didn't.

[Matt Jones]

Okay, so I saw a stat, I want to say, of the. Of the four teams that are in the playoffs, the 25 starters. So basically offense, defense, special teams. Of the four teams, that's 100 players. That 92 of the hundred started with that program.

[Ryan]

Wow. No kidding.

[Matt Jones]

That's a lot. Wow, that's a lot. And it kind of goes counter to this idea. You can just get everything you want in the port. Now, I haven't checked those numbers. That number may be off by just a little bit, but it was still a significant amount of people in these poor. In these classes started with these programs. So.

[Ryan]

So for the people that want to say, you know, recruit and develop, that gives them a little strength in their argument. Now, for sure, maybe in football it's.

[Matt Jones]

Even more important than basketball, which I actually think that's probably true, to be honest. Because in basketball, if you get a star as a freshman, he's gone. But in football, star as a freshman still has to stay. So maybe, you know, maybe actually getting your own guys is the key to doing it. Who's up next?

So you don't have. You all don't have ice in Colorado? No, no, it's like a dry snow. I mean. I mean, occasionally, but not like. Not like in Kentucky. I grew up in Virginia. So I know what it's like. Like every time it snows, it's really wet. But yeah, man, out here is always fun. Yeah, but they would be hard to do. Kentucky sports radio, Shannon in Colorado. That would be a little bit more. That would be a little bit more difficult. But yeah. Anything else?

Yeah, you get a beautiful spring, a beautiful fall, and then like you may end up with a winter where you actually get to see some snow.

No, I mean Kentucky is one like. I think we get everything. I'm not sure how many places get everything. We get everything here. And I do think that's kind of a cool thing. Who's next?

I don't know if that'll still be the case in 10 years because I think a lot of those mid majors will play their final year at a big school. But it may be. We'll see.

And my legal question is, you know, if you have someone park in your parking lot and they don't utilize your business, sometimes the business will have them towed away. Yes, and I get that because they're not patronizing your business. But what if you tow someone's car that is patronizing your business? Explain to me how that's not.

You still can because like the, the owner of the lot, it's a private lot, they don't have to let anyone park there. Now. I mean, it's bad business to tow people that were in your business. Clearly. Because it'll make people not want to come. But from a legal perspective, you know, you're not entitled to park anywhere in a private lot. So I mean, most businesses, if they do it mistakenly, a lot of them will try to do something to make you feel good. But in general, unless a city has specific laws to the contrary, which I don't know if Lexington or Louisville do, I don't know city parking laws. But in general, it's private property and you're not entitled to park anywhere without the person's permission. And if they made a mistake, it's still their property. So it's ultimately up to them to whether or not they, they fix it for you. Okay. I didn't realize that.

I assumed that if you are patronizing a business that there's some sort of like, agreement in place.

There might be a parking lot. Yeah, there might be a city law in some places that has that. I wouldn't be surprised if there is. But just in general, you know, if I go to Shannon's house and I park in Shannon's driveway and while I'm in his house, he decides to tell me that's kind of his right, even though it would be a jerk move.
