To hour two of Kentucky Sports radio presented by Stockton mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt
Welcome back. It is Kentucky sports radio hour number two. Matt Jones. Ryan Lemon, Shannon, the dude. For people who are asking, by the way, Drew is So in terms of equipment, I have something at my house. Ron. We have the official equipment which Ryan has at his house, and Drew can't get to Ryan's house. So that's why Drew's not on. He's fine. Has anybody heard from Mario? You know, he's not letting the snow a lot. Is he good?
Drew
He was texting me.
Matt
Yeah, he was texting. So he must be all right. Right? All right. I have no idea where Max is. Max just disappeared for like two weeks.
Tom
I mean, is he like.
Matt
He's still in the states?
Tom
Okay. Okay.
Matt
He just was like, yeah, I'm gonna go away for a few weeks.
Tom
I thought I was staying with you for a while.
Ryan
No.
Matt
Yeah, but he's not there now, so I don't know where.
Tom
He just left.
Matt
Yeah, I don't know. I don't know where he is.
Tom
So I have an idea.
Drew
Seattle.
Tom
Yeah, Seattle could be in Seattle.
Matt
We'll just leave that there. That was you. Just for the record, Max, that was Shannon that said that, not me. 859-28-0-2287. On the text machine, 7727, one person writes, Matt, my mom listens to this show. She texted me that she may turn off the second hour because she gets so mad that you and Shannon give Ryan a hard time. She thinks you're too mean to him. I'd like to know whether or not you and Shannon think you're too mean and whether or not Ryan thinks he's too mean.
Tom
I don't think we're too mean.
Matt
Oh, I know Shannon's answer right there.
Tom
I mean, he gave the guy a hard time because he doesn't know what he drives. Yeah, I feel like that's not like. I feel like it's common knowledge. Everybody knows what they drive.
Matt
Do you think we're too hard on you?
Drew
No, because I get it. We're like. Like I said many times, we're just brothers, man, and you just pick on each other all the time.
Matt
So.
Drew
Yeah, I'm not offended by it.
Matt
Here's what I would say to people who say that every. I don't know about. I don't know how women are with each other. I think. I think women give each other a hard time, too. About, like, you know. But here's what I know about men. You get any group of men together that are good friends, and you just put them and they're screwing with each other. Right? Right, Shannon? I mean, they are. They're making fun of each other, but they do it out of love. There's making fun to be mean, and then there's making fun out of love. And there's any group of male friends. That happens. The difference is we just do it in front of you all. And, like, that's different, and it's a little more vulnerable. But that's the thing we decided to do when we decide to be on the radio, you know, and, like, that's part of the trade off of doing this, is that you end up being more vulnerable, but then you also get to have a really cool job and you get to talk to people on the radio. So you guys are eavesdropping on a group of friends conversations. But if you were to hear, like, I'd say to this mother, first of all, thank you for listening. But if you were to hear your husband and his friends, Ryan, chances are they doing the same things to each other, too.
Drew
Yeah, they just don't have a microphone in front of their.
Matt
They just don't have a microphone in front of them. Right. My grandfather Would go to the SEC tournament with his friends, and they were all like, church going people. Shannon. Right.
Tom
Yeah.
Matt
And then the moment we got to the SEC tournament, they started screwing around with each other.
Tom
For me, it's like, you know, my way to show that I like you if I don't make fun of you. Yeah, I probably don't like you.
Matt
Probably like.
Tom
Yeah.
Matt
Have I ever told you the story real quick, Shannon, about when we were. When I was with my grandfather and his friends at the SEC tournament and the stripper came out at Applebee's?
Tom
Oh, God, no. I want to hear this story.
Matt
Have you never heard this?
Tom
I don't think so. I remember that.
Drew
All right.
Matt
So when I was a kid, I would go to the SEC tournament with my grandfather and his friends, and the group included, like, the future, like the mayor of Middlesborough, like the. The lead singer at one of the churches. Right. Like, this was an outstanding. This was. These were moral people, Shannon. Right?
Tom
Yeah.
Matt
Including my grandfather. And I was nervous around them, although they were always very nice to me. So it was like a bunch of 60 and 70 year old men and me, and sometimes from like age 7 to like 12. We went to Birmingham in 1992. I've talked about that tournament before. I still think the greatest SEC tournament of all time. Ryan. Right. A lot of people.
Drew
A lot of people support your argument on that.
Matt
Yeah, we're in Birmingham. My grandfather at the time was kind of sick, and we went to a dinner and we went to Applebee's in Bursa.
Drew
Why not?
Matt
Well, because when you're from Middlesbrough. Shit. And that's big time eating, right?
Tom
Good in the neighborhood.
Matt
Good in the neighborhood. And we're all having our dinners, like eight people. And this is like the kind of, you know, this is the who's who of the Middlesboro business community. Right. Leader of the church choir. Shannon.
Tom
Big time.
Matt
At the table next to us is a bachelor party at Applebee's. This woman comes in and she starts stripping.
Drew
Whoa.
Matt
I'm not kidding you. She, like, comes in and does one of those, like, hello, boys, you know, and we're sitting right next to him, and she gets down and she ends up, like, you know, in provocative. Where at the Applebee's in Birmingham you.
Tom
Got a free show. You didn't have to pay for that.
Matt
Well, I'm 12. Can you imagine?
Drew
This is the greatest moment.
Matt
Who thought at the Birmingham Applebee's I'd get to see that level of skin, Shannon? You just didn't think that was plausible.
Tom
I've never seen that at Applebee's before.
Matt
Of course, now the Middlesboro men, like, they don't. They're kind of like they're smiling more than I thought they would.
Tom
There's still men at the end of the day.
Matt
I know. And this doesn't happen in Middlesborough. I don't think a lot either. Well, the manager comes over after like, 30 or 45 seconds and tells the woman, you can't be doing this at the Applebee's in Birmingham during the SEC tournament.
Tom
Yeah.
Matt
And it's like. It was like something in wrestling. Like, he puts an overcoat over and takes her out the door.
Drew
Did your table stand up, start?
Matt
Yeah, it was like a big trench coat. Like, you can't. You're gonna have to go. And I remember my grandfather and his friend. I won't say which one, because his family might be listening. They both looked at me and just said, don't tell your mother. And of course, I didn't for a long time. I eventually. I eventually told him. But, you know, you're 12 years old. That's part of why, Ryan. I say the 1992 SEC tournament was the best one.
Drew
Now we know the real reason.
Matt
It wasn't just Jamal Mashburn, Shaquille O'Neal, Todd Daley, Mayberry, Oliver Miller, James Hollywood Robertson, Robert Ori, Latrell Sprewell. It was also the Applebee's in Birmingham.
Tom
She was the real MVP that year.
Matt
She was the. The real mvp. Couple things tonight, Ryan. The debut of the World Indoor Golf League. Do you know about this?
Drew
I do not know anything about this.
Matt
Tiger woods and Rory McElroy have created this thing. Like, you know when you go play on a golf simulator? Have you ever done that?
Drew
Yeah, Right?
Matt
And you, like, hit the ball and it goes into the screen and it shows you what it does. I think there's a couple places in Lexington where you can do this, right? They're doing a professional golf league of that.
Drew
Wow.
Matt
And it's gonna have, like, all these pro golfers, including Tiger and Roy, and it debuts tonight on espn. Like, Scott Van Pelt is the host. And it's gonna be going for, like, the next six or eight weeks now. I haven't seen it. And it debuts tonight. It actually debuts during our debuts right after the Kentucky gig. It sounds, Ryan, to me, awful. Like, I cannot imagine watching people do an indoor golf simulator on tv. But there are people who watch video games. I know Barstool has that guy Jerry, who does this sometimes, but do you think this will Catch on. Professional golfers playing indoors on a screen and what people watching it on espn?
Drew
I surprisingly, am going to say yes, because the younger generation spends hours and hours watching other people play video games. And the fact that Tiger woods has his name attached to this, people will tune in just because of Tiger. So, yeah, I think it could probably have some success.
Matt
Will you watch it?
Drew
I knew nothing about. That's what. Why didn't they promote it a little bit? I mean, this is kind of a cool event. I've not seen any promotion about it at all. And yet I'm going to tune in tonight now that you just told me about it.
Matt
All right. Shannon, will you watch?
Tom
I think they haven't promoted it because they realize it's going to suck. No, I mean, I watch it out of curiosity, just to see what it looks like. Yeah, but no, I don't think it's going to catch on at all. Do you?
Matt
I mean, again, I mean, Ryan's right. Like, I kind of feel like this is probably an attempt to get younger people. It sounds awful to me. Like, I want to watch. First of all, one of the things I've learned about golf is if they're not playing for something that matters, it's not entertaining. You know what I mean? Like, when they're playing against each other in these, like, the match and stuff, I actually find it really boring because it doesn't seem like it matters who wins. But the other thing is, I just. I can't imagine watching, wanting to watch a guy, like, hit it into a screen. And if it's not Tiger, I really don't think I would care. Like, do you want to watch Xander Shoff Lee hit a ball into a screen? Shannon?
Tom
No, I don't. Like I said, I'll tune in to watch it to see, like, what the presentation is. Maybe it's more than what we're talking about, but if it's maybe Golf Simulator. I mean, that's what it's always been when I've been to a golf simulator.
Matt
Well, I'm going to be like you. I'm going to turn it on after the game tonight, just before the pregame show, just to see what it looks like. But, Ryan, I just have a hard time thinking this will be interesting.
Drew
I think you're right. I think that the generation they're trying to attract is not us. I think the young golfers of the world and the young people that have played a lot on a simulator, they're the ones that'll probably tune in tonight to watch, like, if you like that.
Matt
Once you just watch them play regular.
Drew
Golf, do they have like a. Is like a bracket, like a 32 player?
Matt
I don't know. I'm not sure what the format is, but it's good. It's a league. I think there are teams or something.
Tom
But zero chance this catches on long term.
Matt
I kind of feel like, say, wait, then, Louisville plays tonight. Now, far be it for me to make fun of Louisville, and granted, I'm going to grant you the weather's bad. Okay, so that plays an impact in this. I get it. But Louisville plays Clemson at home tonight. It's a big game for them, right? I mean, Louisville has a chance to be the second, third or fourth best team in the acc. Clemson is probably the second best team next to Duke. It's a big game for them. They are giving. They are. When I say they're giving away tickets, they're giving away tickets. Literally. This guy who I guess is one of the boosters of the. He like, owns Planet Fitness. He got online and yesterday said, I will give 500 tickets to anybody who writes me here. And of course, people wrote him. If you're a member at Planet Fitness, Shannon, you get four free tickets.
Tom
Bring the entire family.
Matt
Now, this is a game against the top 25 team. This is Louisville basketball, one of the greatest programs of all time, and they're giving away tickets if you have a membership at Planet Fitness. Isn't that insane?
Tom
Yeah. When we made them. Made fun of them before, you least had to go buy, like, a carton of milk and you got tickets. Remember that?
Matt
I just cannot believe they have a good team, a team that could make the tournament. This is Louisville basketball. I know the weather's bad, but they were doing this before the weather got bad. Just for the record, the idea that they have to give away tickets if you have a membership to Planet Fitness, Ryan, did you ever think that would happen?
Drew
Never, ever. I think it would happen to a. A fan base that's been pretty solid over the years. Drew said it a hundred times. They're broken that fan base. They're broken.
Tom
He broke them.
Drew
Kenny broke them.
Matt
I. I'm not making fun of this, although I guess I am a little. I'm just shocked. Yeah, I'm shocked that they have to give away tickets to play a top 25 team. That's amazing to me. But that's where they are right now, and that's what they're going to have to do. Who's up next?
Tom
Clay.
Matt
Clay. Go ahead, Clay. Hey, Matt.
Shannon
This is Clay. I'm the. I'm the guy that had the baby that Kobe Braya held after the game on Saturday.
Matt
Oh, okay. So you're the one that.
Tom
Here we go again.
Matt
Here we go. How McCoy calls up right after.
Tom
Tell me about that snot nose baby.
Matt
All right, I'll tell you what. I have some questions for you about the baby. Can I. Can I do my ad and take a break and then get you right after the break? Is that okay?
Shannon
Yeah, of course.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt
Okay, let's do that. Because I want to. I actually have more than 30 seconds of questions, but I got to take a break. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Channing. The text of the day here. All right, thank you. Like from 772-7745-2541, person writes, Matt, they do that at every Applebee's. You just have to order the bottomless fries. I didn't know they did. That's good.
Tom
Now where I'm eating lunch.
Matt
Kentucky branded. Eating good in the neighborhood. Right. That's what they, that's what they're doing. All right, so we got the guy on your, your, what's your name again, sir?
Shannon
Yeah, my name is Clay.
Matt
Clay. So it was you. You're the one that gave the, the baby to Kobe. Braya. First of all, how did that end up happening?
I
Yeah.
Shannon
Yeah. So I have a family member. I'm not going to say their name, but they work in media and they got us down the floor right when the game was ending and we wanted to listen to the Pope show. So, you know, all that. They were all, Jackson came over and got a picture with him and then Kobe did. And then Kobe went back in the locker room and I guess he came back out and Pope, he does, like segments. So he did his first segment and he went over to one side of the crowd and then he went to our side and then he didn't make it all the way down. So I was like, you know, it's my son's first UK game and you know, he's a little, he's a little guy. And I just thought it'd be cool, you know, get a picture with Coach Pope. So Kobe was standing right next to me and I said, hey, man, do you. What are the chances you could take my son Kate, over and get a quick picture with Coach Pope? And he smiled at me.
Matt
So he took the baby to get the picture with Pope. Okay, gotcha.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt
Were you at all?
Shannon
Like, I was just like, I wasn't just like, hey, hey, man, here's my baby. I'm gonna go to the bathroom and get a drink.
Matt
I didn't know I Didn't think that would be the case. So were you worried at all? I mean, like, you know, handing your. Your baby to. To a college basketball player. Did that worry you at all?
Shannon
Not really. I mean, I know my wife was in the background. I mean, she. She was probably embarrassed. I know she. I know she was. She actually. She messaged you last night. But, yeah, she was embarrassed. But I wasn't too worried because I asked first. I said, are you sure, like, you feel comfortable doing this? And. Yeah, and he smiled. He's like, yeah, I feel comfortable. And he's a good baby.
Ryan
He doesn't.
Shannon
He doesn't want to cry or anything.
Matt
He seems like he has a good handle, Shannon. So I think I feel like that. All right, so now. So you get the picture. That's now become like kind of a famous picture. Like, it went everywhere. So that had to be cool. That had to be cool, right?
Shannon
Oh, yeah. It was a. It was the best dad moment ever, because my dad used to take me to games, and I got a picture of a tubby, and we went to the bar, your bar, after the game. I was hoping you'd be doing the show there, but the weather was coming in and stuff. But, yeah, there were people that would just come up to me, and they were like, hey, is that the. Is that the baby that got a picture of Coach Pope?
Matt
Famous baby.
Shannon
Is that a baby?
Matt
Here's the most important question. Your baby wasn't sick, was it?
Shannon
I was about to bring that up. No, none of us are sick. And perfectly. He is not sick at all. So I don't. I saw some of that this morning. I was like, come on, now. My baby's not sick.
Matt
All right, good. So it's not from the baby and everything. So good. I'm glad. I just wanted to make sure, because, you know, babies have a lot of snot. So I'm glad that your baby didn't have snot. And, well, listen, that's very cool. Thank you for calling, and it'll be a great memory for you.
Shannon
Yeah, thanks, Matt. Thank you.
Matt
Appreciate the call. There you go. That's good. That's good to hear. So we. We're kind of reporters, Ryan. We can now report that the Kobe Braya did not get sick from the baby.
Drew
If he is definitely sick, it didn't come from baby Cade. So we can't blame brave baby Cade if that's the issue right now. So I'm glad he cleared that out.
Tom
Imagine the baby was sick, though, and everybody blamed the baby. You can't Blame a baby.
Matt
Yeah. It's not the baby's fault. Yeah, I mean, I understand. All right. So I again talked about having reporters. Ryan, I have somebody who was at the final rehearsal for the golf league last night. Okay. In West Palm Beach. They were there and they said to me, it, it. They sent me pictures and video of it. I mean, it looks cool, but I don't know if it'll be cool. The person wrote, I went to the final rehearsal last night. It's like the NBA meets golf in a stadium with museums or with music and a shot clock. The green moves and changes every hole. So does that sound good?
Drew
I think it's worth a look. I'm gonna check it out. I mean, I don't know if I'm gonna watch it every week or every couple.
Matt
You say that.
Tom
No, no.
Matt
Yeah.
Tom
Doesn't change it for me.
Matt
We'll see.
Tom
We'll watch it.
Matt
Comes on 9:00 tonight, so we'll find out.
Drew
I do have an Ask Matt question, since his Ask Anything Tuesday.
Matt
Okay, this is for you.
Drew
Rory and Tiger were both very anti outlive golf. How's it not hypocritical for them to start another league?
Matt
It is a little bit. I mean, all these golfers. Okay, so you can be against Liv golf because of the Saudi Arabian thing, and I think that's principled. But I never felt like these dudes were. Most of them were against it for that. They were just against it. They were getting all these money and they weren't. They weren't like. I think golf, the split has hurt golf a lot. I think golf outside of the majors now has become almost unwatchable. And part of it is this split. So maybe this will make it better. I kind of doubt it will. And I do think if you. If people want to be, say it's a little hypocritical. I think that's fair. But then again, if kids watch it, you know, golf has a problem with kids. Like, kids are not into it as much anymore, so maybe it'll. It'll make it better. But I am a huge golf fan and I found I can't watch a golf tournament now unless it's one of the majors. And that's a shame because I used to watch them all the time, but it's just not interesting to me anymore. And, you know, for better or worse, that's just kind of how I feel about it. Who's next?
Tom
Carol.
Matt
Carol. Go ahead, Carol.
I
Hi, guys.
Matt
I'm.
I
I'm calling with a story concerning people that can't get out of their house.
Matt
Okay.
I
I'm a very senior citizen and I had a medical appointment yesterday that I was determined to keep thanks to two very special Uber drivers. I got there yesterday morning. So I want to give a shout out to Shanek and Amos. They were both super considerate and they were concerned about my safety.
Matt
Yeah.
I
They made sure I got in and out of the car, you know, carefully. And after I got back from my appointment, I was kind of reflecting on all of this, and I was reminded how upset I get when I hear plans to deport certain groups of people because one of these drivers immigrated here when he was 40 years old from South Africa. He speaks, writes, and reads five languages. There are many instances just like this where people don't take the time to think these people are working and they're helping people like me.
Matt
Well, that. First of all, that's very cool that they did that for you. Shaneck and Amos. Those are two great names, by the way, Shanek and Amos. But I also think more. I. I do. I. When things like weather happen, it always reminds me that, like, it's easy to turn on TV and think the world is like, everybody hates each other. But for the most part, I think 98% of people are good and 98% of people want to help people. And in a situation like that, helping you get to and from the doctor, I think that's very sweet. Thank you for that, for telling us that story. And I'm glad your home stay warm. Okay.
I
Alrighty. Thanks. Same to you all.
Matt
All right. There you go. I like the name Chanek and Amos. When's the last time you heard of a person named Amos?
Tom
I don't know. I don't know anybody named Amos.
Drew
I don't either.
Matt
I mean, 100 years ago, and I don't. I don't think that I. I can't think of a. Yeah, I can't think of a person. I don't know that I've ever known a person named Amos.
Drew
I don't either.
Matt
So. So nice job by. By those folks. And. Yeah, you know, I see. I saw somebody walking down the street on Barstown Road, like, helping an older person trying to get to the bus stop. You know, bad weather does bring out the best of people, and I wish we had more chances for people to show that side. We'll take a break. Be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call tj. He'll make him pay.
Tom
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt
Is this Jerry Lee?
Tom
Jerry Reed.
Matt
Jerry Reed.
Tom
Yeah.
Matt
Okay.
Tom
Amos.
Matt
I always hear this song on Willie's Roadhouse. Yeah, it comes on quite a bit.
Tom
Probably the only place you're gonna hear it.
Matt
Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of it, but it's. But I do know it. It's called what? Amos?
Tom
Moses. That's right.
Matt
Right. Yeah. Okay. 859-280-2287. Ryan Reed Shepard got sent to the G League yesterday. Probably a little bit of a surprise to probably a lot of people. It's kind of rare for top five picks to get sent to the G League. It happens. But. But it's kind of rare. You know, he hasn't. It's. It's kind of a couple things. One, he's. He's on a team that's. That had the third pick but has ended up good. So that's probably a little surprising is that they're actually pretty good. I think they're the two or three seed right now in the west, and they also have a lot of guards. I mean, he's like the fifth or sixth guard on the team, and a lot of their guards have improved a lot and gotten really good. So part of it is he's on a team that's probably better than they thought, and he's got guys ahead of him that have improved. The other part of it is he just hasn't really played well when he comes in. And part of it is he's only playing like. He'll only get to play like a handful of minutes here and there. He doesn't. His shots aren't going in. So the combination of that, I think they think he needs to go. He'll get regular minutes. He'll start in the G League and like, hopefully get a rhythm. But little disappointing for Reed. A lot of the guys this draft has ended up being, I think, better than people thought. And, you know, he's not ended up having the year I think that a lot of people had hoped.
Drew
I was a little surprised when I saw that, I gotta admit. But you said it, man. The Rockets are our guard heavy, and it's better than playing two or three minutes a game. Get him some run, get. Get some minutes where he's not just sitting there on the bench not doing anything. I think it may end up being a, you know, a wise move on the Rockets part.
Matt
I mean, it's been. Listen, it's. I still think both these guys have a really bright future, but for Reed and Rob, it's for both of them been a little disappointing. I mean, they both. If you look at the top 10 picks, they're playing less minutes than almost everybody. And they just haven't had a lot of success, either one of them. You know, I still, long term think both of them can be good, but, you know, so a lot of people are now saying, well, Reed should have come back. If Reed had come back, he'd be playing here. I mean, I. Shannon, I just kind of think that's stupid. He's. He had. He made 20, $20 million guaranteed. I'd love to have had him back, but he made the right decision. The third pick. I mean, if he goes in the draft this year, he's not going to be higher than the third pick.
Tom
That's. That's it right there. That's why you go. You're not going to improve anymore, right? I mean, you may go up one spot, but what's the difference probably?
Matt
I mean, there's two Cooper flag and that. What's the kid's name at Rutgers? Whatever. There's two guys at Rutgers. I don't think he'd have been picked ahead of any of them. So, like, if he came back and was the fourth or fifth pick, Shannon, that wouldn't have done him any good. Right.
Tom
And then you got to wonder, like, who do we not have on this roster because of that? You know, you're gonna have probably, maybe, maybe Otega, I don't know.
Matt
Yeah, maybe. Maybe Kobe, maybe Otega, one of those guys. Guys. But he made the right decision, Ryan. And even if his. And I think his NBA career, I still think he's going to be good. But even if it never does, dude, you can't turn down $20 million of guaranteed money to come back and maybe be in the exact same or worse position than you would have been otherwise.
Drew
Yeah, just. Just let him in. Just sit and improve, man. I mean, he's just still, what, 19 years old, you know, let him get some run of the G League. There's been all these stories of guys that have done that, go down, then come back and end up, you know, staying the rest of their career.
Matt
Are you surprised, Shannon, that the best rookie? Well, right now they do this thing where they rank the rookies. NBA ranks them. Right now, the best rookie is a guy I'd never heard of that went to the Pelicans. And part of why he's the best is he plays a lot. But the second best rookie right now by stats is Zach Eady. Can you believe?
Tom
Wow.
Drew
No, I Never thought that was going to happen.
Matt
Who would have? I mean, I don't know that I thought he'd be a bus, but when you watch that dude play, I saw something. He's the only player in the NBA that in his last 15 games, his plus minus has been a plus every game. Wow.
Tom
I mean, I know he was good at Purdue. He was good for what they did. I just didn't know that that would translate as well as it has so far. Early in his career, would you have.
Matt
Thought Ryan, Zach, Edie would be a productive. I mean, went ninth in the draft, so, I mean, clearly somebody thought that.
Drew
But the way the NBA game is now, it just didn't seem like it fit the way he plays. But he's proven us wrong.
Matt
Yeah. I mean, give him credit, man. You watch that guy in his early career in Purdue, you would have never thought. No, he could play in the NBA. And now he's not only playing, he's on a good team and he's playing really well. Who's next?
Tom
Tom.
Matt
Tom. Go ahead, Tom.
I
Hey, I've got a hot basketball topic. Maybe controversial. So I think we can all agree that basketball, once you get to the high school, college or pro level, is in the entertainment industry. People pay to go watch this product on the court. So my idea is, if we want to get women's basketball more entertaining, you can do a few things. Lower the rim to nine foot short.
Matt
Why would you say before you do any of this? Why would you say any of this? Women's basketball is more popular now than it's ever been. I mean, literally, women's basketball, the college, women's NCAA championship game last year outdrew the men's now. I probably won't do that this year, but that's still, like, I don't think the sport has ever been more popular than it is right now.
I
Couldn't disagree. I mean, couldn't agree more. It absolutely. But it was because of one or two players and people wanted to see them play and they made it exciting. That's going to die out, I think.
Matt
I mean, it may. It's going to. It's definitely clearly Caitlin Clark and to a lesser extent, Angel Reese. But clearly Caitlin Clark was a huge personality that made a big difference. But, you know, getting it to nine feet, I mean, I just. I think there's an assumption there, like, the women, it's never going to be as athletic as the men, but it's a different sport. But that's okay, right? Like, that's all right. It doesn't have to be the same.
I
Doesn't have to be. But if you want to increase the crowd, if you want to make it more entertaining, then why not lower the court? Why not lower them, Let them go in and be able to, you know, jam.
Matt
Yeah.
I
And maybe even put in a. A goaltending line so that if you go inside, you have to go in strong.
Matt
Yeah. Well, I think that probably, and I appreciate the call that I don't think you elevate the sport by telling young women that they can't, like, they have to play with a different. I mean, I already played with a different ball. Right. Going to nine feet. I don't think women's basketball to be entertaining, has to dunk. I mean, what made Caitlin Clark entertaining was her being able to shoot the way she did. And, you know, so I would disagree with that, Ryan. Although, you know, maybe I'm wrong.
Drew
The women's game is exciting in its own way.
Matt
It's just different.
Drew
It's just different. You know, in the uk, women are playing an exciting, different kind of basketball.
Matt
Yeah.
Drew
You know, I like the women's game. They play four quarters. That's something I think the guys should.
Matt
Maybe the guys should do that. I think they should. I think they should play four quarters. It just cuts down on the free throws. Right. You don't. Because it's five fouls each quarter. You just don't. You don't have as many free throws. So you don't spend as much time just standing there at the line towards the second half of each half, which I think makes it better. Who's next?
Tom
Price.
Matt
Price. Go ahead. Price.
I
Hey, how's it going, guys?
Shannon
There's a guy you were talking about Amos's. There's a guy that played running back for West Virginia. His name was Amos Their Way.
Matt
He played for West Virginia, then he.
I
Was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in.
Shannon
1999, and he played for the Oakland.
I
Raiders in New Eng. Patriots.
Matt
There you go. I didn't. I never heard that name.
Shannon
Thank you, guys.
Matt
Appreciate it. They also have those cookies. What are those cookies called?
Tom
Famous.
Matt
Famous Amos. When I did my trivia question when I did my trivia question just a few couple weeks ago, it's one of the five most popular cookies in America. Did you know that? Really?
Tom
That's why it's famous.
Matt
Famous. Famous. It's like Oreos, then Chips Ahoy, then like Pepperidge Farm something. Nabisco, Nilla Wafers and then Famous Amos. Do you, by the way, do you know people who still eat vanilla wafers?
Tom
I ate them as a kid and I loved them.
Matt
I did too. Milk. But do you know, like, when's the last time you've seen a vanilla wafer?
Tom
It's been probably 30 years.
Matt
Me, I agree. But it was fourth on the amount.
Tom
Some kids still eating them.
Matt
Can you buy them like in a gas station?
Tom
Probably in a grocery store. Yeah.
Matt
I don't. I haven't seen a vanilla wafer since my grandparents died. But somehow it's still number four.
Tom
Everybody's grandparents have vanilla waiver. Because my grandparents had it too.
Matt
Yeah. Why did they like them so much? Was that the only cookie they had for a long time?
Tom
Maybe. I don't know.
Drew
You need them to make banana pudding. Maybe that's true.
Matt
Oh, you do? Yeah.
Tom
You stick them in there.
Matt
Oh, okay. Well, yeah. Maybe that's what it is. Hey, the NFL playoffs start Saturday. You could be ready with DraftKings, the official sports betting partner in the NFL. Welcome Back Techie Sports Radio. Fred Durst try have you seen now he looks old.
Tom
Still in Limp Bizkit. He's got. That's gotta be a wig he's wearing, right? He looks like the dude from the Big Lebowski. He looks like Jeff Bridges.
Matt
Yeah, he's got they still Limp Biscuit still a thing?
Tom
Oh yeah, yeah. They played louder than life a couple of years ago.
Matt
Wow.
Tom
He got mad and made him turn off the Big screens on the side so nobody in the back can see.
Matt
Why do you do that?
Tom
Just because he's a jerk, I guess. Because he can. He's like, we're not going to play until you turn off the screens.
Matt
Did you hear. Did you watch the first Raw last night? See Hulk Hogan.
Tom
Saw the highlights. Saw Hogan come out and get booed by Hogan.
Matt
Just came out and got booed. Like, got booed. First of all, Hogan can barely walk. You want to feel old, watch Hulk Hogan. Man, wrestlers age tough. Except Jimmy Hart, who looked amazing.
Tom
Yeah, Jimmy Hart did not deserve to get booed.
Matt
81 years old. Dude looks the exact same he did when he was 31.
Tom
I don't get that one at all.
Matt
I don't either. Have you. Do you know Jimmy Hart is Ryan the mouth of the South?
Drew
Oh, yes. That's what I would watch with him. And Tojo Yamamoto and Riley Popper.
Tom
Well, he still looks.
Matt
Yes, look, he looks the exact Same now at 81 as he did then. But Hogan comes out and, like, I guess he's selling some beer now. It's called Real American Beer, which is, like, ridiculous. He comes out and they just boo him, like. And it wasn't like he wasn't trying to get booed. They were just like, get out.
Tom
He was like, I love you guys.
Matt
And they were like. He goes, one of the things that has never changed is how much you love me. And the whole crowd goes, so why.
Drew
Were they booing him?
Matt
I mean, he's got a tough background. Like, you just have to Google some stuff he's done.
Tom
Plus, he was in LA and he was just at a.
Matt
He was in la. He was big. But, I mean, part of it's probably like he, you know, he spoke for Trump at the convention, but, you know, the Undertaker is a huge Trump guy and he got cheers. Right. I think it's just Hogan, like, just. I mean, we don't need to go into all of it, but, you know.
Tom
Before a guy was so beloved, like the biggest, most loved wrestler on the planet back in the 80s and 90s. Now everybody just seems to hate him.
Matt
I mean, and he did not see it coming. You could tell.
Tom
Yeah, he was shaking.
Matt
He was shaking. And that dude's been a performer for 50 years and he was shaking. So now, of course, it's wrestling. They need to make him a bad guy. Right? Like, they need to have him now. He's got to go the other way.
Tom
I don't think he can walk down the aisle. I mean, that's why they just Kept him there. He just kind of came to the curtain and stood.
Matt
He just came through and stopped because it was clear, like he couldn't walk. But, I mean, probably shouldn't have had him debut in la. Yeah, right.
Tom
Yeah. Maybe in like, I don't know.
Matt
I mean, that's, that's probably not, you know, if you're gonna debut like Lizzo, maybe you don't put her in. Maybe you don't put her in in Mississippi or Alabama. Yeah, I don't know if it was the best place to debut him. All right, so today we're going to open.
Tom
What is going on?
Matt
What is going on? Torturing dogs. What is happening?
Drew
Something must be outside. They're going crazy.
Matt
Well, do you need to go look at it? That sounds awful.
Tom
Must be a ride.
Drew
I can go yell at him, but what.
Matt
Can you all hear that at home?
Tom
Yeah, they can hear it.
Matt
I mean, I know Shannon and I can hear it, but what is that?
Drew
I don't know. Somebody. There's probably a dog out in my front yard or a cat that's going crazy about.
Matt
That does not sound like they're seeing a dog. That sounds like something bad.
Drew
Yeah, that's. That's normal.
Matt
That's normal.
Drew
Yeah. That's how you live with another animal. It comes in our front yard. Yeah. I will say this. I've been watching my cul de sac and one of my neighbors whose car has not moved, got out and did not come back. So they must have made it. So I think I'm feeling a lot better about making it.
Tom
There you go. They cleared a path.
Matt
Yeah, they did what we told you at the beginning. You should do that. Everybody got mad at Shannon. I about which is, why don't you get out of your house?
Drew
Oh, I want to get out of my house.
Matt
All right. So speaking of getting out of the House, the KS Bar is opening at 3. The game is at 7. Our pregame is at 4:30. We need to make a decision. Are we going to do the pregame at the bar? Do you feel like you can get there or should we do it at home?
Drew
Can I, can I try it after the show's over here and let you know?
Matt
Try it. I mean, we need to, like, we need to just say, well, I think.
Drew
After seeing what my neighbor just did, I think I'm good.
Matt
Okay, so we're going to do the pregame show then at 4:30 at the bar. You're up for it?
Drew
I'm up for it.
Matt
Okay, now the game is at seven. We here's what I'm going to say to all of you all, like, if you want to get out of your house and watch the game, I'm gonna at least watch the first half there until I get nervous.
Tom
Yeah.
Matt
And then you go shower and it probably. Look, we probably won't have a ton of people because the weather, but come out and watch it with us. We. It can be like a. We're tired of being in our house. Come watch the game. You. Are you up for it, Ryan?
Drew
Yeah. If I make it to the pregame show.
Matt
Okay. So you're just going to stay there?
Drew
Probably just gonna stay there.
Matt
Do we need to call Amos and Cheelac to send you home after the game?
Drew
That's not a bad idea because I'm sure there's Uber drivers that have four wheel drive.
Matt
Okay. All right. So. So you'll be. So we'll be there at 4:30. You're in.
Drew
I'm in.
Matt
Okay. All right. So let's talk about how we feel. Cats in Georgia looks like right now we're a one and a half point favorite. You feel. What do you think's gonna happen tonight, Ryan? You think we get a victory?
Drew
I think it's a close game from start to finish and I think it's a, it's a rock fight. It's gonna be a tough battle, but I feel like Kentucky, they got to win one of these two and I feel like this is the one they're going to get.
Matt
Yeah, this is tough. I mean, you know, we're going to, we're playing a top 10 pick here. We've played a top 10 pick earlier this year with Cooper Flag and he, he played really well against us until the last couple plays. This is another, like, can our bigs defend? They really have struggled defensively. I mean, especially against guys, you know, the Ohio State, those guys owned us on the boards. Honestly, Ryan, Florida owned us on the boards too. I mean, we won, but they owned us on the glass. Now you got this team that's got. With ace and all. You're talking about a dude who's going to be 611. I think he's going to be a superstar. We got to have Amari Williams, we got to have Andrew Carr. We got to have these guys. We got to have these guys. Ryan play much better on the defensive end than they did in the last game.
Drew
And that's what concerns, I think all of us, as we've seen us, our post players are fours and fives. Not be the best defenders at times. Amari Williams can, but he can't guard two guys.
Matt
But he's also got to get his hands up and rebound.
Drew
Yeah.
Matt
I mean, he for. And he's actually averaging a decent amount of rebounds, but I feel like he lets other guys get rebounds on him all the time. They got a box out. You know, we go back to that free throw against Florida again, it didn't cost us, but he just let that dude get the rebound on him on the free throw.
Drew
Yeah. And I think that's why I think Pope took him out and like, woke him up that, hey, man, you've got to do this or you are not going to play.
Matt
You like our chances tonight, Shannon, since you won't be on the pre game?
Tom
Yeah. But, you know, with Kobe Braya being out, it does make me a little nervous. Georgia's going to try to slow the game down there.
Matt
Well, we don't know he's out. We don't know he's out.
Tom
Yeah. I'm saying if he is out, though, it makes a little nervous. But I think Kentucky gets the win on the road, but it's going to be tough.
Matt
It's a tough game. All right, so we will do the pregame show at 4:30. Come on by the bar if you want or come watch the game. Ryan, even if it's just me and you, we'll cuddle up and we'll watch the game together. I'll make sure you get home okay.
Drew
You can get me home. I'm in.
Matt
So you can get there if I get you home.
Drew
I'm hoping to.
Tom
I don't. I don't hear a lot of confidence.
Drew
Well, I've not been out. I've not tried it yet. But like I said, my neighbor got out, so I feel good about it.
Matt
All right, well, good for me. I think the Cats will get a victory, but I think this is going to be a battle. And, and I said the Florida game was a test for me about, hey, do we have a chance to compete in the sec? I think the answer is yes. This is the kind of game that if you want to win the SEC or come in second, you win this. This is the game. You're not going to win the SEC or even come in second if you don't win a game like tonight, hopefully it happens. We will see you at 4:30, everybody. Be careful today. See you at 4:30 for the pregame show. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. This message comes from Greenlight. Ready to start talking to your kids about financial literacy? Meet Greenlight.
