Add some bacon. Let's talk for a second about Indiana. Wow. Students during the game the other night at Indiana were chanting fire Woodson.

[Ryan Lemon]

Yeah.

[Drew Franklin]

At Mike Woodson during the game in the first half they were down at 1.40 in the game to Illinois at home. They have, we were talking about big nil rosters they might have along with Arkansas and Kansas State the biggest. They paid $2 million for Omar Diallo, who has been spotted before. Two games this year, once in a casino and once at a bar the night before the game. The second time. The first time, he got warned. The second time he got suspended for a game. There's a play that's flooded. Floating around the Internet of him on a loose ball, just standing there, like, literally not even moving. It's one of the funniest things you'll ever see. But it's not just him. The whole team stinks. They. You look at their schedule, it's gonna be hard to see where they win games. Will Indiana basketball, Ryan, ever be good again and go ahead and say no?

[Ryan Lemon]

It's gonna be tough, man. They thought hiring Mike Woodson, they were gonna get what we're getting with Pope, you know, former player, bring back the juice, you know, try to get the program back on its level. We got it with Pope when the Mike Woodson experiment has totally backfired on.

[Drew Franklin]

Them and they, you know, the Fire Woodson, like that. That would never happen in Rupp. I don't care who it was. I mean, they didn't. People didn't chant that at Billy Gillespie. Like, that would never. For Indiana basketball to have people chanting, fire the coach in the first half of a game. It was still the first half when they chanted it.

[Shannon The Dude]

It wasn't like a few loud people in the student section. That was a choir in assembly hall in unison, cheering Fire Woodson. And then I don't know the reporter, but they were in the. Just the concourse of the mass exodus. At some point in the game, maybe halftime. I mean, they were flooding out of that arena with a lot of time.

[Drew Franklin]

Still on the clock in the second half. Like, halfway through the second half, the student section was completely empty. Like, there was no one in the student section. They asked Woodson about it afterwards, and he was like, well, I hope we continue to get fan support. And I was like, continue. You know, I mean, doesn't seem like you have it now. It is amazing to think that Indiana was once a power program, because there are people, like, if you're in college listening to this, you don't know that Indiana was ever a power program. Right?

[Ryan Lemon]

Yeah. Mario probably even know Indiana being a power name.

[Drew Franklin]

Name your most famous Indiana player, Mario. Yogi Pharaoh. That's it.

[Shannon The Dude]

Nose ball.

[Drew Franklin]

But I just want you to think about that. He comes up with Yogi Farrell because, okay, who's the best Indiana player the last 20 years? Yogi Farrell. But that's what That's, I mean it's been that long.

[Ryan Lemon]

They don't know. They don't know Indiana as a basketball power at all. I'm Josiah. These guys, younger generation, they know him as losers.

[Drew Franklin]

Oh, big time losers.

[Ryan Lemon]

Yeah.

[Drew Franklin]

Like if you look at programs that are quote unquote blue blood, Indiana is the one that's had the success the farthest back. I mean even Louisville, while they were terrible last few years, you know, mid-2010 is very good.

[Ryan Lemon]

Yes.

[Drew Franklin]

Indiana has not been very good.

[Ryan Lemon]

It's Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller team. That's probably the last time they had a good team.

[Drew Franklin]

That team lost in the second round. They had the one Mike Davis team run to the finals.

[Ryan Lemon]

Yeah.

[Drew Franklin]

You know, 2002, but that's it. Otherwise Indiana basketball, it is unbelievable to watch how they fall and especially when you're like us and grew up with Indiana being a top program every year. It's. It's sad actually. It really is.

[Ryan Lemon]

Indiana was one of the top three programs for 20, 25 years. Now it seems like it's crazy thought put him in that category.

[Shannon The Dude]

Cream got him to like two sweet sixteens. Beaten Kentucky in one of them actually. But other than that he missed the tournament like four years. Miller was there. He didn't make the tournament before that. I had many years without making the tournament. They have just been forgot.

[Drew Franklin]

They had really good team and that's the team you were talking about. Cody Zeller and Victor Oladipo and they got upset in the second round. But that's really the only really good team they have had in 30 years. Which is, which is unbelievable.

[Shannon The Dude]

And you can't let it go on that long because like you're saying they have to go recruit. These kids don't even know they existed and had that tradition.

[Drew Franklin]

Everyone just moves on. Who's up next?

Which fan base is going to give us the most crap?

Well, Arkansas.

Is it going to be the Indiana fan base of past or is it going to be the Arkansas fan base now?

[Drew Franklin]

Indiana has nothing they can say. I mean I'm not going to listen to an Indiana Fan say anything. I appreciate the call. Arkansas will give us the most crap. But you know what? They're not making the tournament whether they beat us or not. I mean that. They're just not. So, yeah, we want to win that game. It'll stink if we lose, but it does not. Do you agree with me, Drew? Even if we lost a game, it doesn't change the overall calculus of that this was the right thing to happen.

[Shannon The Dude]

No, not at all. I will wake up the next day, watch football, and by Wednesday of that week, moved on to the next SEC game.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah, I will, too. I completely agree with you because I'm.

[Shannon The Dude]

So excited for the rest of this run. The SEC tournament, the NCAA tournament. I will not give Arkansas the pleasure of taking that joy for now.

[Drew Franklin]

If they were good, if they were good and then won that game, then that's a little different. But they're not. So if we lose, it's a fluke.

[Shannon The Dude]

And that would kind of prove. I'm not already trying to make excuses if this were to happen, but it would, like I said a minute ago, it'd be like, oh, yeah, John Caliperi won a regular season game to do anything else. Yeah, that was us for the last few years. We know that. Congratulations. We. We flexed after Auburn last year. Have your flex and then fizzle out.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah.

[Ryan Lemon]

Kentucky still going to make the tournament win or lose that game and not affect them our postseason aspirations at all.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah. I mean, they, to whatever extent I had a lingering in the back of my mind worry that there would be a world where it could collapse and not make the tournament that kind of went away with these back to back.

[Ryan Lemon]

I'm kind of with you also against.

Ranked teams is pretty silly record.

Heck of a resume.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah. By the way, somebody suggested that they think the exhibition game against a power team, that that will be how we play Patino and St. John's that makes a lot of sense.

[Ryan Lemon]

I think that's the right answer. Yeah. But would you play it in. In New York, like they're talking?

[Drew Franklin]

I think you'd play the first one here in Lexington. I think Rick would want to come down. By the way, did you see the crowd Rick had for his game against Georgetown? Madison Square Garden full. Was it really like he has done? You got to give him credit. He has done exactly what he said he wanted to do there. I mean, they were playing Georgetown at like, you know, regular and they were. It was full and rocking.

[Shannon The Dude]

That's pretty cool. I didn't see it, but I. I recently watched that ESPN 30 for 30, about when the Big east was so good. And that area just kind of needs the basketball to get back to where.

[Drew Franklin]

He'S like 15 and 3 or 14 and 3. Like, they're really.

[Ryan Lemon]

Oh, yeah, they're a tournament team.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah.

You know, they're going to be in our bracket, too, in the NCAA tournament, probably.

I don't think Mark Pope ever gets ejected. I could see him getting a technical one day. I appreciate the call. I think he said he has one technical in his coaching career.

Oh, he's got more. I did a deep dive. I watched all of them. Which ones you want to know about? I wrote a post on this last week. He slammed a water bottle one time and the top shot up and covered radio row in water. I think even he realized I didn't mean to slam it that hard. He had, like, a look of shock.

[Drew Franklin]

How many does he have?

[Shannon The Dude]

He had two last year. He has one that's pretty bad. It was late in the game in the conference tournament about four years ago.

[Drew Franklin]

[Shannon The Dude]

He argued at Kansas and got one and inspired the team. Even the stories written about it, it was like, mark Pope fuels BYU comeback because they went on like a 122 run right after it.

[Drew Franklin]

It's hard to see him getting one, though, isn't it?

[Matt Jones]

Almost like one the other night.

[Ryan Lemon]

Well, he did say, oh, my gosh.

[Matt Jones]

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if they teed him up.

[Drew Franklin]

So, all right, does he get one then? I thought the answer was definitely no.

[Ryan Lemon]

Okay, so the over under has got to be 0.5.

[Shannon The Dude]

There's a difference. Ejected and getting a team.

[Drew Franklin]

I agree. Yes.

[Shannon The Dude]

Yeah, I don't think he's been ejected. He's been teed quite a few times.

I. I could see him getting a technical. Not ejected.

Now I can see him getting a technical because we all have our moments, but I cannot see him getting ejected. That's just not happening.

That's just not in his DNA, really.

By the way, some. Some news here. Bob Euchre has passed away. The longtime baseball announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers, Bob Eukert, was still calling games last year. Most people know him. I'D say Major League and the Miller like, commercial commercials. But he was also a really good baseball player and a great announcer back when. Back when I was like, in the 2010s, when they started to get where you could hear online the radio broadcasts of other teams. I would put Bob Euchre on, even though I didn't care about the Brewers. I just liked listening to him because I thought he was so funny and kind of one of a kind. Did the national like baseball. I mean, he. He was on the World Series a number of years there for NBC.

[Ryan Lemon]

One of the most colorful baseball people ever. He just was. And I think he really became start of on those Miller, like, commercials, you know, hey, it must be in the front row. You know, that's why people got to know him. And then once they found him, he just. His star just really started to shine.

[Drew Franklin]

Yes. One of the classic lines ever from Major League. Just a bit outside.

[Ryan Lemon]

[Shannon The Dude]

That's where I first learned of her. But over time, like when the brewers would have those terr seasons, he would not hold back. I'm talking about how bad they were.

[Ryan Lemon]

Yeah.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah, that's a. That's a sad to see. I mean, he was. He was. He. He was one. He was almost like Barkley in some ways. He may have been like the baseball Barkley.

[Ryan Lemon]

Not afraid to say what was on his mind.

[Drew Franklin]

And he also. I mean, his drinking in the booth is, like, legendary.

[Matt Jones]

Him and Harry.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah, he would. There's some stories that, like, let's say they were playing, you know, I don't know, the Padres or something. He would challenge the Padres announcer to go shot for shot with him, and then, like, it'd be the seventh inning and the Padres announcer would, like, not be able to speak. And then Euchre would be like, you.

[Shannon The Dude]

Know, we used to be a proper country. Sounds like a great game.

[Drew Franklin]

I just think that with Nil, you know, players have a little bit less, you know, motivation for how they're going to. The effort that they're going to put in unless they're being kept accountable somehow. You know, I. I don't.

I always. People keep saying that, and I don't understand why. Like, let me just. Let me, like, take Omar Dialo I.

Guess if you're getting paid, you know.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah, but. But, like, everyone gets paid, like, in. In. In sports. Like, do you think I say this a lot? Do you think Steph Curry doesn't try because he's getting paid? No, but, but, no, but that's the end of the.

He's already made it to where he wants to go, I guess, you know, like, so.

[Drew Franklin]

But all the more reason to keep trying is if you have it. Like, if you're Omar Diallo, let's say you're getting $2 million, all right, after taxes, what we talking about? 1.2 million, maybe 1.1. Okay, so now you're sitting there with 1.1. Do you want to play basketball the rest of your life or not? That 1.1 is not going to set you for life. So if you want to play basketball the rest of your life, man, you better be good. You better keep performing. I mean, this idea that, like, you would get one paycheck and stop, maybe. I appreciate the call, but that's just because you're the kind of person who might not be very motivated anyway. Drew. Right? Yeah.

If I'd been playing basketball since I was a toddler, and then someone starts paying me for it, I'm going to go, I want to keep playing basketball. I want to get even better. This money's nice. I want more of it. I want this to be my career. I wouldn't go, oh, I got a check. I'm done playing basketball.

[Drew Franklin]

Now, look, think about Travis Kelsey, how much money he's made. He's got $125 million podcast deal. He's going to probably marry the richest singer in yet. When you hear him talk about the playoffs, he's like, I'm going to destroy them.

[Shannon The Dude]

He almost killed Andy Reid on the sideline last year.

[Drew Franklin]

So people who are motivated are motivated either way. And if you're not, Ryan, then you're not.

And I guess there's just certain situations, like the Diallo kid from Indiana and the kid at Arkansas, but we had a couple football players here that I think kind of fell in that trap where.

[Drew Franklin]

Okay, well, you know what you got. Your job is to search those people out and get rid of them. But the idea that players in general wouldn't be.

[Ryan Lemon]

I agree.

I mean, our dudes this year, they're making. I'd say everyone in the rotation is making hundreds of thousands of dollars. All of them. Do you get the sense they're not trying?

I'm surprised he didn't watch it. All right, so let's talk about, I want, you know, you have often talked about running for mayor of Lexington, right?

All right. So people need to know the positions of their future mayor. Have you seen what's happening in New York with the congestion pricing?

[Ryan Lemon]

Tell me about it.

[Drew Franklin]

Alright, so New York passed. You know, there was too many cars in New York, too much traffic. If you try to drive in New York City like it was, it was a cluster. So in order to encourage people to take the subway, to walk, to find alternate forms, they created a $9 congestion pricing. Basically, if you cross in the city at various places, it's $9. Okay. And it's had a pretty strong impact. Like there aren't as many cars on the streets, which is allowing it to be easier for people to walk. More people are taking the subway, etc. But there are people who say, you know, I want to be able to drive my car. I. You should never drive your car in New York City unless you have to, because even just parking is like $50. But there were people complaining. Some people like it. So here's my question for you. We all know Lexington traffic is terrible.

[Ryan Lemon]

Awful.

[Drew Franklin]

Absolutely terrible. Would you be in favor of at a couple of places in Lexington where it's particularly bad? Maybe out there on Nicholsville Road, maybe out Newtown pike at 4 or 5 o'clock? Would you be favored for like a $1 or $2 congestion pricing to try to, like, make it to where it encourages people to do. Find other ways or. And also raises money for the city? What do you think about congestion pricing in a Lemon administration?

[Ryan Lemon]

Hearing it for the first time, I'm thinking to myself, I don't think I would go for that.

[Drew Franklin]

Why?

[Ryan Lemon]

Well, we don't have a subway or other means of transportation, so we have to do Lyfts or Ubers and things like that. So I think my initial reaction was, would be no.

[Drew Franklin]

We do have buses.

[Ryan Lemon]

Yeah, we do have buses.

[Drew Franklin]

That is an interesting point. We don't have subway. So that does make it a little different. But. So you would say no?

[Ryan Lemon]

I would say no.

What if. What if I could show you a study. I'm not saying I can. That would say there'd be 25% less traffic in Lexington if you did that.

And you brought up a good point where you said it does raise money for maybe other things the city can use, you know, like maybe better bus service. Yeah, if.

If, uh. Oh, here we go.

If we ever did it, I think I would just put it on three roads.

Nicholasville Road, Newtown Pike, Winchester Road. That seems to be the major arteries that backs up during rush hour.

So you put it on those three roads?

Do you think a dollar or two dollars would be enough to encourage you not to drive? Or would people just still do it and just pay the dollar?

[Ryan Lemon]

Yeah, I think most people would like. I'm not. I'm just gonna drive myself. I don't think that's gonna do it.

[Shannon The Dude]

Yeah, we don't have the public transportation. And being a walking city, I think to enforce that, I think that'd be a bad idea. Winchester Row or Ryan saw where people were walking, because a big part of the reason New York did it, too, was a lot of pedestrians just everywhere and too many cars. Like, we already have a lot of people walking without sidewalks out that way as it is. I think you got to be. If you're going to enforce that your public transportation, your walking areas have to be built up enough.

[Drew Franklin]

We should say something about that. Winchester Road. I don't know how many of you all drive on Winchester Road every day, but Winchester Road is like grand theft auto. I mean, there are people walking across the street and, like, running across the highway and there. You're right. There are no sidewalks, which makes it a little.

[Shannon The Dude]

Crosswalks are bad, so they just try to sprint across.

[Drew Franklin]

I mean, Winchester Road is, like, dangerous. And I don't really know what you can do about it, but that some of those sections like New Circle and then the inner, like, it is just. It is just chaos during the day, even at night.

[Ryan Lemon]

One of the news stations, and I'm sorry, I don't remember if it was channel 18 or channel 27, did a investigation about all these people getting hit by cars on Winchester Road. Like, in the past year, Drew can tell you this, man, it's been like two dozen. It's been crazy.

[Shannon The Dude]

I've been looking dead ahead, paying attention, not on the phone, not listening to music, driving just like I'm supposed to. And you will have a person walk out. Sadly, you know, you have people out there pushing shopping carts that only have a place to go. I mean, they will just step out in front of you.

[Drew Franklin]

And because it's hilly, it can be blind sometimes and you can't see them, see them there. It's. That's. That is a very dangerous dancer.

[Shannon The Dude]

We got to be a little better at getting people around if we're going to take away cars, at least in our. In New York. I kind of get it, though.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah. I think it's. People were very mad when it first started, but now a lot of people in New York are like, hey, there aren't as many cars. This is good in New York.

I think they probably should have cleaned the subways before announcing it. They announced like, two days after that woman was, like, on fire. They should have made it a little better before doing it.

One, 859-280-2287 little piece of news we didn't get to. The portal has changed for college football. They are now moving the date that you can transfer back until after the bowl games. So there will be a 10 day period after the semifinals. So it'd be like right now. Yeah, they will, they're moving a 10 day period after the semifinals will be the only times you can get in and out of the portal. Which means before that you can't do it. And the teams will only have 10 days. And really it's better for everybody except the two teams playing in the national championship because the two teams playing in the national championship will both have to get their portal class and get ready for the national championship. But 10 days and they're switching it to January and basically, you know, some schools are already in session and you'll just have to start late. But it's a good idea. I mean, I think this is good. The hope is that you don't get all these opt outs for bowls like you've had these last few years. Years. Yeah.

I mean it's been almost two months season since the season ended and it feels like the portal stuff has been so fast paced over the course of two months. Now we're just gonna imagine if it's.

10 days, I mean literally they will have to enter the portal and decide where they're going in 10 days.

And I, you know, these schools and players won't talk to each other before that 10 day window. Of course, I mean you're gonna have to be ready as soon as that date hits.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll probably talk at least a little bit. But that's, I think that's probably, I think that's a good change. I think that'll make it easier.

I definitely think the change moving it where they have, you know, after the, all the, all the bowl games is definitely a must need it. But I think they should have expanded it more than 10 days. These kids, if you're considering four schools.

The problem is these semesters start at these colleges.

So like part of the reason they have to do 10 days is, you know, some colleges that will have been in session for a week or two and you actually do have to get these people enrolled. So I think they felt like the 10 days was the amount of time where you could get enrolled at every school if you needed to do it.

Yeah, Kentucky still trying to add to its roster right now and it's January 16th. I mean we can't pull the Big Z move with every player and just let them start school, you know, two months.

You know, he made decision. He can also leave. It's not like he's in a job that he can't get out of. If he wants to leave, he can. So, you know, I. I know what. It feels weird for people to feel like they do because we had so many good memories with him. But I also think. And I appreciate the call. Think about how many people left that staff and that office and how many really good people feel like they just couldn't be around it anymore. And then, no offense, look at who followed him there. Those are the only people who couldn't do anything else. I mean, like. Like it was not. There are a lot of people that have a reason to feel like they feel now. I'm not saying that means we should wish ill on him. I don't think you should do that for anyone But Drew, I get it.
