Nmlsconsumeraccess.Org welcome to hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Drew Franklin
Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287 here at the KS Bar and Grill. You can come on out. We are open for lunch. Say hi to everybody. Go. You know, do a little dance when you walk in. Ryan was, Ryan was advocating for the chili gillespie.
Ryan Lemon
I just told Jennifer the chili gillespie is awesome. Here we put out that great cornbread and then put the chili over the cornbread. It's so good. It's perfect this time of year.
Drew Franklin
I don't think I've ever heard you more excited about anything.
Ryan Lemon
Now we've got the lunch combo where you can get a grilled cheese with it. And the grilled cheese is good. Here's a little secret. Get the bacon on the grilled cheese.
Drew Franklin
Why are you whispering?
Shannon The Dude
Diet going well?
Ryan Lemon
Secret. Yes. Yes.
Drew Franklin
Diet's going really well.
Ryan Lemon
I picked up a few pounds. You know, Thanksgiving, see Seattle, Christmas, New Year's.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
I picked up a few pounds.
Shannon The Dude
Add bacon to my.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. You know what? When you're out, when you're on a diet, just, just add some bad.
Ryan Lemon
Some bacon.
Drew Franklin
Add some bacon. Let's talk for a second about Indiana. Wow. Students during the game the other night at Indiana were chanting fire Woodson.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
At Mike Woodson during the game in the first half they were down at 1.40 in the game to Illinois at home. They have, we were talking about big nil rosters they might have along with Arkansas and Kansas State the biggest. They paid $2 million for Omar Diallo, who has been spotted before. Two games this year, once in a casino and once at a bar the night before the game. The second time. The first time, he got warned. The second time he got suspended for a game. There's a play that's flooded. Floating around the Internet of him on a loose ball, just standing there, like, literally not even moving. It's one of the funniest things you'll ever see. But it's not just him. The whole team stinks. They. You look at their schedule, it's gonna be hard to see where they win games. Will Indiana basketball, Ryan, ever be good again and go ahead and say no?
Ryan Lemon
It's gonna be tough, man. They thought hiring Mike Woodson, they were gonna get what we're getting with Pope, you know, former player, bring back the juice, you know, try to get the program back on its level. We got it with Pope when the Mike Woodson experiment has totally backfired on.
Drew Franklin
Them and they, you know, the Fire Woodson, like that. That would never happen in Rupp. I don't care who it was. I mean, they didn't. People didn't chant that at Billy Gillespie. Like, that would never. For Indiana basketball to have people chanting, fire the coach in the first half of a game. It was still the first half when they chanted it.
Shannon The Dude
It wasn't like a few loud people in the student section. That was a choir in assembly hall in unison, cheering Fire Woodson. And then I don't know the reporter, but they were in the. Just the concourse of the mass exodus. At some point in the game, maybe halftime. I mean, they were flooding out of that arena with a lot of time.
Drew Franklin
Still on the clock in the second half. Like, halfway through the second half, the student section was completely empty. Like, there was no one in the student section. They asked Woodson about it afterwards, and he was like, well, I hope we continue to get fan support. And I was like, continue. You know, I mean, doesn't seem like you have it now. It is amazing to think that Indiana was once a power program, because there are people, like, if you're in college listening to this, you don't know that Indiana was ever a power program. Right?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. Mario probably even know Indiana being a power name.
Drew Franklin
Name your most famous Indiana player, Mario. Yogi Pharaoh. That's it.
Shannon The Dude
Nose ball.
Drew Franklin
But I just want you to think about that. He comes up with Yogi Farrell because, okay, who's the best Indiana player the last 20 years? Yogi Farrell. But that's what That's, I mean it's been that long.
Ryan Lemon
They don't know. They don't know Indiana as a basketball power at all. I'm Josiah. These guys, younger generation, they know him as losers.
Drew Franklin
Oh, big time losers.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Like if you look at programs that are quote unquote blue blood, Indiana is the one that's had the success the farthest back. I mean even Louisville, while they were terrible last few years, you know, mid-2010 is very good.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Drew Franklin
Indiana has not been very good.
Ryan Lemon
It's Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller team. That's probably the last time they had a good team.
Drew Franklin
That team lost in the second round. They had the one Mike Davis team run to the finals.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
You know, 2002, but that's it. Otherwise Indiana basketball, it is unbelievable to watch how they fall and especially when you're like us and grew up with Indiana being a top program every year. It's. It's sad actually. It really is.
Ryan Lemon
Indiana was one of the top three programs for 20, 25 years. Now it seems like it's crazy thought put him in that category.
Shannon The Dude
Cream got him to like two sweet sixteens. Beaten Kentucky in one of them actually. But other than that he missed the tournament like four years. Miller was there. He didn't make the tournament before that. I had many years without making the tournament. They have just been forgot.
Drew Franklin
They had really good team and that's the team you were talking about. Cody Zeller and Victor Oladipo and they got upset in the second round. But that's really the only really good team they have had in 30 years. Which is, which is unbelievable.
Shannon The Dude
And you can't let it go on that long because like you're saying they have to go recruit. These kids don't even know they existed and had that tradition.
Drew Franklin
Everyone just moves on. Who's up next?
Matt Jones
Brian and Franklin.
Drew Franklin
Brian and Franklin. 859-280-2287 so this game with Artist concerns.
Caller
Me a little bit in the fact of we are everybody's Super Bowl. And so having said that, assuming. No, not assuming, I'm. I don't even want to go there. I don't want to breathe that into there. If it were to happen that say Wagner hits the last second shot. Kind of like the Watford shot.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Caller
Which fan base is going to give us the most crap?
Drew Franklin
Well, Arkansas.
Caller
Is it going to be the Indiana fan base of past or is it going to be the Arkansas fan base now?
Drew Franklin
Indiana has nothing they can say. I mean I'm not going to listen to an Indiana Fan say anything. I appreciate the call. Arkansas will give us the most crap. But you know what? They're not making the tournament whether they beat us or not. I mean that. They're just not. So, yeah, we want to win that game. It'll stink if we lose, but it does not. Do you agree with me, Drew? Even if we lost a game, it doesn't change the overall calculus of that this was the right thing to happen.
Shannon The Dude
No, not at all. I will wake up the next day, watch football, and by Wednesday of that week, moved on to the next SEC game.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I will, too. I completely agree with you because I'm.
Shannon The Dude
So excited for the rest of this run. The SEC tournament, the NCAA tournament. I will not give Arkansas the pleasure of taking that joy for now.
Drew Franklin
If they were good, if they were good and then won that game, then that's a little different. But they're not. So if we lose, it's a fluke.
Shannon The Dude
And that would kind of prove. I'm not already trying to make excuses if this were to happen, but it would, like I said a minute ago, it'd be like, oh, yeah, John Caliperi won a regular season game to do anything else. Yeah, that was us for the last few years. We know that. Congratulations. We. We flexed after Auburn last year. Have your flex and then fizzle out.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
Kentucky still going to make the tournament win or lose that game and not affect them our postseason aspirations at all.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. I mean, they, to whatever extent I had a lingering in the back of my mind worry that there would be a world where it could collapse and not make the tournament that kind of went away with these back to back.
Ryan Lemon
I'm kind of with you also against.
Shannon The Dude
Ranked teams is pretty silly record.
Ryan Lemon
Heck of a resume.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. By the way, somebody suggested that they think the exhibition game against a power team, that that will be how we play Patino and St. John's that makes a lot of sense.
Ryan Lemon
I think that's the right answer. Yeah. But would you play it in. In New York, like they're talking?
Drew Franklin
I think you'd play the first one here in Lexington. I think Rick would want to come down. By the way, did you see the crowd Rick had for his game against Georgetown? Madison Square Garden full. Was it really like he has done? You got to give him credit. He has done exactly what he said he wanted to do there. I mean, they were playing Georgetown at like, you know, regular and they were. It was full and rocking.
Shannon The Dude
That's pretty cool. I didn't see it, but I. I recently watched that ESPN 30 for 30, about when the Big east was so good. And that area just kind of needs the basketball to get back to where.
Drew Franklin
He'S like 15 and 3 or 14 and 3. Like, they're really.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, yeah, they're a tournament team.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
You know, they're going to be in our bracket, too, in the NCAA tournament, probably.
Drew Franklin
Bring them on. Bring them on. Rick, who's next?
Matt Jones
Shane from Grayson.
Drew Franklin
Shane from Grayson. How are you?
Caller
How's it going, fellers today?
Drew Franklin
I'm doing good.
Caller
Hey. Hey. I just got a over and under question. I'll say that one. Does Mark Pope get ejected from any game this year? And I'm gonna say that, too. Tie me that, Kentucky.
Drew Franklin
I don't think Mark Pope ever gets ejected. I could see him getting a technical one day. I appreciate the call. I think he said he has one technical in his coaching career.
Shannon The Dude
Oh, he's got more. I did a deep dive. I watched all of them. Which ones you want to know about? I wrote a post on this last week. He slammed a water bottle one time and the top shot up and covered radio row in water. I think even he realized I didn't mean to slam it that hard. He had, like, a look of shock.
Drew Franklin
How many does he have?
Shannon The Dude
He had two last year. He has one that's pretty bad. It was late in the game in the conference tournament about four years ago.
Drew Franklin
Really?
Shannon The Dude
He argued at Kansas and got one and inspired the team. Even the stories written about it, it was like, mark Pope fuels BYU comeback because they went on like a 122 run right after it.
Drew Franklin
It's hard to see him getting one, though, isn't it?
Matt Jones
Almost like one the other night.
Ryan Lemon
Well, he did say, oh, my gosh.
Matt Jones
You know, I wouldn't be surprised if they teed him up.
Drew Franklin
So, all right, does he get one then? I thought the answer was definitely no.
Ryan Lemon
Okay, so the over under has got to be 0.5.
Shannon The Dude
There's a difference. Ejected and getting a team.
Drew Franklin
I agree. Yes.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I don't think he's been ejected. He's been teed quite a few times.
Ryan Lemon
I. I could see him getting a technical. Not ejected.
Shannon The Dude
That's right.
Drew Franklin
I cannot see him getting ejected.
Ryan Lemon
No.
Drew Franklin
Now I can see him getting a technical because we all have our moments, but I cannot see him getting ejected. That's just not happening.
Ryan Lemon
That's just not in his DNA, really.
Drew Franklin
By the way, some. Some news here. Bob Euchre has passed away. The longtime baseball announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers, Bob Eukert, was still calling games last year. Most people know him. I'D say Major League and the Miller like, commercial commercials. But he was also a really good baseball player and a great announcer back when. Back when I was like, in the 2010s, when they started to get where you could hear online the radio broadcasts of other teams. I would put Bob Euchre on, even though I didn't care about the Brewers. I just liked listening to him because I thought he was so funny and kind of one of a kind. Did the national like baseball. I mean, he. He was on the World Series a number of years there for NBC.
Ryan Lemon
One of the most colorful baseball people ever. He just was. And I think he really became start of on those Miller, like, commercials, you know, hey, it must be in the front row. You know, that's why people got to know him. And then once they found him, he just. His star just really started to shine.
Drew Franklin
Yes. One of the classic lines ever from Major League. Just a bit outside.
Ryan Lemon
Just a bit outside.
Shannon The Dude
That's where I first learned of her. But over time, like when the brewers would have those terr seasons, he would not hold back. I'm talking about how bad they were.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, that's a. That's a sad to see. I mean, he was. He was. He. He was one. He was almost like Barkley in some ways. He may have been like the baseball Barkley.
Ryan Lemon
Not afraid to say what was on his mind.
Drew Franklin
And he also. I mean, his drinking in the booth is, like, legendary.
Matt Jones
Him and Harry.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, he would. There's some stories that, like, let's say they were playing, you know, I don't know, the Padres or something. He would challenge the Padres announcer to go shot for shot with him, and then, like, it'd be the seventh inning and the Padres announcer would, like, not be able to speak. And then Euchre would be like, you.
Shannon The Dude
Know, we used to be a proper country. Sounds like a great game.
Drew Franklin
Who's up next?
Matt Jones
Let's go to Duba.
Drew Franklin
Duba, how are you, Duba?
Caller
Hey, doing good, fellas. How are y'all doing?
Drew Franklin
Doing good. All right, I got.
Caller
I got two quick things for you. First one, the second one's related to the first one on the Indiana and Arkansas thing. I just think that with Nil, you know, players have a little bit less, you know, motivation for how they're going to. The effort that they're going to put in unless they're being kept accountable somehow. You know, I. I don't.
Drew Franklin
I always. People keep saying that, and I don't understand why. Like, let me just. Let me, like, take Omar Dialo I.
Caller
Guess if you're getting paid, you know.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, but. But, like, everyone gets paid, like, in. In. In sports. Like, do you think I say this a lot? Do you think Steph Curry doesn't try because he's getting paid? No, but, but, no, but that's the end of the.
Caller
He's already made it to where he wants to go, I guess, you know, like, so.
Drew Franklin
But all the more reason to keep trying is if you have it. Like, if you're Omar Diallo, let's say you're getting $2 million, all right, after taxes, what we talking about? 1.2 million, maybe 1.1. Okay, so now you're sitting there with 1.1. Do you want to play basketball the rest of your life or not? That 1.1 is not going to set you for life. So if you want to play basketball the rest of your life, man, you better be good. You better keep performing. I mean, this idea that, like, you would get one paycheck and stop, maybe. I appreciate the call, but that's just because you're the kind of person who might not be very motivated anyway. Drew. Right? Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
If I'd been playing basketball since I was a toddler, and then someone starts paying me for it, I'm going to go, I want to keep playing basketball. I want to get even better. This money's nice. I want more of it. I want this to be my career. I wouldn't go, oh, I got a check. I'm done playing basketball.
Drew Franklin
Now, look, think about Travis Kelsey, how much money he's made. He's got $125 million podcast deal. He's going to probably marry the richest singer in yet. When you hear him talk about the playoffs, he's like, I'm going to destroy them.
Shannon The Dude
He almost killed Andy Reid on the sideline last year.
Drew Franklin
So people who are motivated are motivated either way. And if you're not, Ryan, then you're not.
Ryan Lemon
And I guess there's just certain situations, like the Diallo kid from Indiana and the kid at Arkansas, but we had a couple football players here that I think kind of fell in that trap where.
Drew Franklin
Okay, well, you know what you got. Your job is to search those people out and get rid of them. But the idea that players in general wouldn't be.
Ryan Lemon
I agree.
Drew Franklin
I mean, our dudes this year, they're making. I'd say everyone in the rotation is making hundreds of thousands of dollars. All of them. Do you get the sense they're not trying?
Ryan Lemon
Absolutely not.
Drew Franklin
I don't.
Ryan Lemon
Trying more.
Shannon The Dude
So they're Competitors and they want more. Hundreds of thousands.
Drew Franklin
Exactly right. You know, I mean, well, if I was Elon Musk, I'd retire. But something makes him keep going. Bill Gates. They keep going because, like, people have a competitive nature. Ryan Lemon
Was one of the stars of Mr. Belvedere.
Drew Franklin
Play the next segment, Shannon. The theme song to Mr. Belvedere.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew Franklin
Streaks on the china, Never let them before.
Ryan Lemon
Well, Mr. Belvedere fans.
Drew Franklin
No, I don't know why I remember that. Like, I haven't thought about that song in 20 years, but I think it says streaks on the China never met a people who cares.
Shannon The Dude
I had completely forgotten about Mr. Beverage. You pulled that out of nowhere.
Drew Franklin
Well, somebody wrote me. I wouldn't have. I wouldn't have.
Shannon The Dude
George Owens on Mr. Belvedere.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, he was the, he was like the comic relief guy on Mr. I think he was maybe the dad. And Mr. Belvedere was the, was the housekeeper.
Ryan Lemon
You know, I both said I sound like a show Shannon would have watched. It's like kind of his.
Drew Franklin
I'm surprised he didn't watch it. All right, so let's talk about, I want, you know, you have often talked about running for mayor of Lexington, right?
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Drew Franklin
All right. So people need to know the positions of their future mayor. Have you seen what's happening in New York with the congestion pricing?
Ryan Lemon
Tell me about it.
Drew Franklin
Alright, so New York passed. You know, there was too many cars in New York, too much traffic. If you try to drive in New York City like it was, it was a cluster. So in order to encourage people to take the subway, to walk, to find alternate forms, they created a $9 congestion pricing. Basically, if you cross in the city at various places, it's $9. Okay. And it's had a pretty strong impact. Like there aren't as many cars on the streets, which is allowing it to be easier for people to walk. More people are taking the subway, etc. But there are people who say, you know, I want to be able to drive my car. I. You should never drive your car in New York City unless you have to, because even just parking is like $50. But there were people complaining. Some people like it. So here's my question for you. We all know Lexington traffic is terrible.
Ryan Lemon
Awful.
Drew Franklin
Absolutely terrible. Would you be in favor of at a couple of places in Lexington where it's particularly bad? Maybe out there on Nicholsville Road, maybe out Newtown pike at 4 or 5 o'clock? Would you be favored for like a $1 or $2 congestion pricing to try to, like, make it to where it encourages people to do. Find other ways or. And also raises money for the city? What do you think about congestion pricing in a Lemon administration?
Ryan Lemon
Hearing it for the first time, I'm thinking to myself, I don't think I would go for that.
Drew Franklin
Why?
Ryan Lemon
Well, we don't have a subway or other means of transportation, so we have to do Lyfts or Ubers and things like that. So I think my initial reaction was, would be no.
Drew Franklin
We do have buses.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, we do have buses.
Drew Franklin
That is an interesting point. We don't have subway. So that does make it a little different. But. So you would say no?
Ryan Lemon
I would say no.
Drew Franklin
What if. What if I could show you a study. I'm not saying I can. That would say there'd be 25% less traffic in Lexington if you did that.
Ryan Lemon
And you brought up a good point where you said it does raise money for maybe other things the city can use, you know, like maybe better bus service. Yeah, if.
Drew Franklin
If, uh. Oh, here we go.
Ryan Lemon
If we ever did it, I think I would just put it on three roads.
Drew Franklin
What three roads?
Ryan Lemon
Nicholasville Road, Newtown Pike, Winchester Road. That seems to be the major arteries that backs up during rush hour.
Drew Franklin
So you put it on those three roads?
Ryan Lemon
Just on those three roads.
Drew Franklin
Do you think a dollar or two dollars would be enough to encourage you not to drive? Or would people just still do it and just pay the dollar?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, I think most people would like. I'm not. I'm just gonna drive myself. I don't think that's gonna do it.
Drew Franklin
What about you?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, we don't have the public transportation. And being a walking city, I think to enforce that, I think that'd be a bad idea. Winchester Row or Ryan saw where people were walking, because a big part of the reason New York did it, too, was a lot of pedestrians just everywhere and too many cars. Like, we already have a lot of people walking without sidewalks out that way as it is. I think you got to be. If you're going to enforce that your public transportation, your walking areas have to be built up enough.
Drew Franklin
We should say something about that. Winchester Road. I don't know how many of you all drive on Winchester Road every day, but Winchester Road is like grand theft auto. I mean, there are people walking across the street and, like, running across the highway and there. You're right. There are no sidewalks, which makes it a little.
Shannon The Dude
Crosswalks are bad, so they just try to sprint across.
Drew Franklin
I mean, Winchester Road is, like, dangerous. And I don't really know what you can do about it, but that some of those sections like New Circle and then the inner, like, it is just. It is just chaos during the day, even at night.
Ryan Lemon
One of the news stations, and I'm sorry, I don't remember if it was channel 18 or channel 27, did a investigation about all these people getting hit by cars on Winchester Road. Like, in the past year, Drew can tell you this, man, it's been like two dozen. It's been crazy.
Shannon The Dude
I've been looking dead ahead, paying attention, not on the phone, not listening to music, driving just like I'm supposed to. And you will have a person walk out. Sadly, you know, you have people out there pushing shopping carts that only have a place to go. I mean, they will just step out in front of you.
Drew Franklin
And because it's hilly, it can be blind sometimes and you can't see them, see them there. It's. That's. That is a very dangerous dancer.
Shannon The Dude
We got to be a little better at getting people around if we're going to take away cars, at least in our. In New York. I kind of get it, though.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. I think it's. People were very mad when it first started, but now a lot of people in New York are like, hey, there aren't as many cars. This is good in New York.
Shannon The Dude
I think they probably should have cleaned the subways before announcing it. They announced like, two days after that woman was, like, on fire. They should have made it a little better before doing it.
Drew Franklin
Who's up next?
Matt Jones
Jason.
Drew Franklin
Jason. Go ahead, Jason. 859-280-22872.
Caller
Quick comments or questions. Can we name a player in the last 20 or 25 years that Cal has recruited and developed into a NBA player or draft pick that wasn't already going to be drafted?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, no, there's definitely dudes. I mean, he made Shea Alexander a lot better. He made Tyler Herro a lot better than he came in. For all my criticisms of Cal, he. There were definitely Guys he made better during their time here. Devin Booker was not Devin Booker when he came out of high school. I mean, there's. There were a bunch of those guys.
Caller
Second. Second point. What would be a greater accomplishment this year or harder accomplishment? Winning the SEC regular season and tournament title or winning the NCAA championship?
Drew Franklin
Great question. I'll answer it right after this. T.J. smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. he'll make him pay.
Matt Jones
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, the door.
Ryan Lemon
How did you remember this?
Drew Franklin
How about remembering the first line?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
No one. I can't believe I remember this day. I can't. When was the last time I watched the show? 30 years ago. It's not like it's. I mean, I.
Ryan Lemon
Because it wasn't on very long and.
Drew Franklin
It'S not like it's on a streaming service.
Shannon The Dude
This isn't one that's had a comeback. Like.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. I mean, it's not like the Office that. That people still watch. I don't know how in the world I remember this.
Shannon The Dude
I'm gonna find it when I get home, though. I know that.
Drew Franklin
What were. Like. Can you think of shows like Mr. Belvedere that, like, no one talks about, but you watch this. Like, I'll tell you one. Perfect Strangers.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
There's a show that you haven't seen in. With Cousin Larry and Balky.
Ryan Lemon
I remember that show.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
I have a show that I thought I made up in my head because no one talks about it anymore, but you all remember. I'm a little younger, but Dinosaurs. That was on, like, the.
Drew Franklin
I remember that.
Shannon The Dude
See, they were like.
Drew Franklin
They were just big dinosaurs.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I loved it.
Ryan Lemon
I have no idea what you're talking about.
Matt Jones
I do.
Drew Franklin
I remember it. I remember.
Matt Jones
Not the mama. That little baby.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, yeah, I remember that.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, they were like claymation dinosaurs.
Drew Franklin
I mean, it wasn't real.
Shannon The Dude
Love that show.
Drew Franklin
They didn't use actual dinosaurs because that would have been.
Shannon The Dude
I think it was just a sitcom.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
I think Shannon's impersonation nailed it for me.
Shannon The Dude
The Sinclair's. That was their name.
Drew Franklin
Oh, wow, look at that. That's quite.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. What are other big shows that just have no shelf life later? Like, I'll give you one. The Wonder Years was a huge show. Have. When's the last time you've seen that? Like, no one seen it.
Shannon The Dude
Didn't they. Wasn't it terrible?
Drew Franklin
Maybe, but like, Full House and some of those shows. Urkel. You still hear people sometimes mention them, but, like, the Wonder Years is just Fall like no one. No one ever mentions that. Is there any more you could think of like that?
Matt Jones
Valerie Harper. Do you know who that is? Valerie had a show called Valerie and then it was the Hogan Family later.
Drew Franklin
I remember Valerie and the Hogan Family. I remember both of those. And no one talks about those at all. Family Ties.
Ryan Lemon
Family Ties.
Matt Jones
Michael J. Fox.
Drew Franklin
When's the last time you've heard. I mean, people know Michael J. Fox, but when's the last time you've heard somebody talk about Family Ties?
Ryan Lemon
Well, what was the spin off of Family Ties of the lady who had the. The school for. For girls.
Drew Franklin
Oh, Facts of Life.
Ryan Lemon
Facts of Life.
Drew Franklin
Oh, I love. Now there's a theme song. Yeah, Shannon, that's gonna be the next segment.
Matt Jones
That's right.
Drew Franklin
Take the good, you take the bad, you take them both in there you.
Ryan Lemon
Have the Facts of Life. Facts of Life.
Drew Franklin
There's a time you got a bird about to be.
Ryan Lemon
Facts of Life. Facts of Life.
Drew Franklin
Different Strokes. Yeah, different Strokes. That still comes on sometimes. You remember the characters on the Facts of Life.
Ryan Lemon
Tootie.
Drew Franklin
Tootie.
Ryan Lemon
Blair.
Drew Franklin
Blair.
Ryan Lemon
Natalie.
Drew Franklin
Natalie. And who rode the motorcycle? Joe. Joe. Yeah, that it is. It is a shame that I remember this, like, literally my brain, something else in it. Except the characters on the Facts of Life.
Ryan Lemon
What was the. The headmaster's name? Mrs. Garrett. Garrett. Yes.
Drew Franklin
That was a spin off of Different Strokes. Garrett was the. Was. Was Arnold and Willis. What you talk about? Willis is housekeeper. All right, we need to move on before I. Before I make myself any more sad. So there's a new website that's been that started called Fan Steak. Have you seen this?
Ryan Lemon
No.
Drew Franklin
I don't really understand how this is legal. And it may not be legal, but basically a recruit signs up with Fan Steak and fans can contribute money, it looks like, to try to get the kid to come to their school. Have you seen this?
Ryan Lemon
No.
Drew Franklin
So I think Caleb Wilson has it. I don't know if he officially signed up for it. I'm not sure. But literally, teams, their fan base can give money, and I don't know if the kid gets it or not. Now we are not. Our people have not signed up yet. I am not encouraging people to do it right because I don't know anything about it, but it is like North Carolina. Their fans have put in a decent little chunk of money for Caleb Wilson. You think this is the future? Like fans basically bid on the players.
Shannon The Dude
Just seems so wrong for what we had for so many years. And I hate that fans are the ones having to fork more over, but I Mean, it seems like it's heading.
Drew Franklin
That direction, and I think the kid only gets it if he picks the school, that school. So, like, the money gets refunded unless the kid picks the school that you went to.
Ryan Lemon
I mean, it's not illegal at the moment, so I can see why this is a thing starting to happen.
Drew Franklin
It's strange, though.
Ryan Lemon
It is very.
Drew Franklin
It doesn't feel right, but it does not feel right.
Shannon The Dude
Used to have to put a hundred dollars in a program and roll it up, man it to them as they're walking out of the arena. Now you can just pull up your phone and venmo it to him. It seems like.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. So I don't. I. I wonder if it'll be something that catches on. There's a handful of recruits on it. Caleb Wilson is one of them. Now, Caleb Wilson apparently is going to announce next week. Are we going to get him?
Shannon The Dude
It's looked good the whole way for a long time. And then every once in a while, a story will pop up that North Carolina's in the mix. It's like, is that a smokescreen or is he really having second thoughts? In my brain, I'm still pretty confident. I haven't heard anything that's changed recently. I think the timeline he was putting out today. I don't know if we have the exact date or anything yet, but it's. It's around the corner, and I'm feeling good about it. I've thought that for a long time.
Ryan Lemon
Got a little scuttle butt on Caleb Wilson.
Drew Franklin
Oh, here we go. Shannon.
Ryan Lemon
It's not. I don't think that's really big, though.
Drew Franklin
So you don't think so. This is not scoop.
Ryan Lemon
Scuttlebuttlebutt. All right, Scuttlebutt that Caleb Wilson has already agreed to his nil deal with Kentucky, but he may have done that North Carolina. He may have got his nil deal in place at all these schools, but he's definitely got his deal in place with you.
Drew Franklin
Now, that sounds like scoop. Is it scoop or scuttlebutt that he has his deal in place with Kentucky?
Ryan Lemon
I would say scoop.
Drew Franklin
Okay, so you're upgrading.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
You're scooped.
Drew Franklin
So here.
Ryan Lemon
But like I said, he may have this deal in place with all these schools.
Drew Franklin
He might.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
But you're scooping that he has his nil deal set with Kentucky.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Drew Franklin
All right. Yeah, There you go. Ryan Lemon, when he's confident, usually correct. Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
I'm just hoping he's consistent.
Ryan Lemon
And I don't know. I don't Know if that makes any difference of him picking Kentucky.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Ryan Lemon
But they've got an idea. Dealing agreement in place.
Drew Franklin
All right, who's up next?
Matt Jones
Derek.
Drew Franklin
Derek. Go ahead, Derek.
Caller
What's up, guys?
Drew Franklin
What's going on?
Caller
Are you there?
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Caller
Oh, not a whole lot. I wanted to make a comment. I'm so glad that Cal's not here this year. And you know, how miserable would we be right now if he was our coach? And our record would probably be seven losses right now. And I want to tell you a little story. That the summer I went to a man's camp for church or retreat and there was about 30 Arkansas guys in August and they were pounding their chest and they were giving. They were jabbing all the Kentucky people about how great they were going to be and how stupid we were and how we ran him off and it was miserable. But I can't wait for next Aug. I can't wait for.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I mean, when you. So what is a man's camp?
Caller
Oh, it's just where a bunch of Christian from.
Drew Franklin
Something like that.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Caller
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
All right, cool. Well, I appreciate the call. You will certainly have something to say to them this year. There were a lot of Arkansas fans puffing their chest. But you know what? When you puff your chest, you have to be ready when somebody comes and puts a pin in it and deflates it.
Shannon The Dude
There's a video going around. It's mostly college kids because the language is very vulgar. But I mean, they are just dancing on Kentucky about how they're. They're bragging about being NBA you and taking the goat. And look at them now.
Drew Franklin
Can I give you some more shows?
Ryan Lemon
Yes. Coach Loved Coach.
Shannon The Dude
We just played the team in basketball.
Ryan Lemon
We did Minnesota State.
Drew Franklin
Coach, do you remember who Coach's assistant was? The dumb guy?
Ryan Lemon
It was Dick Van Dyke's brother.
Drew Franklin
No. So that's one of the young dumb guy. What was his character?
Shannon The Dude
Starts with a D, right?
Drew Franklin
Dauber. Dauber. Well done. Give me a break.
Ryan Lemon
Give me a break's a good one.
Drew Franklin
Who do you know the woman that starred in Give Me a Break.
Ryan Lemon
I can see her face.
Drew Franklin
Okay, but what's her name? Come on now. You're doing well with this.
Ryan Lemon
I can't think of it.
Drew Franklin
Nell Carter. Yes.
Ryan Lemon
I couldn't think of her name.
Drew Franklin
I can't believe.
Ryan Lemon
Carter.
Drew Franklin
Silver spoons.
Ryan Lemon
Ricky Schroeder.
Drew Franklin
Ricky Schroeder.
Ryan Lemon
And Alfonso.
Drew Franklin
Yes. That's how Alfonso with the Carlton dance. That's where he got the start. Do you. What does everybody always say about silver spoons? What was the coolest part of Silver Spoons.
Ryan Lemon
His. The train.
Drew Franklin
The train. He rode the train through the house. That was great, right?
Ryan Lemon
Wow. Taking us back to our childhood. I Love these shows.
Drew Franklin
Yes. 227.
Ryan Lemon
I don't know that one.
Drew Franklin
227. Amen. Did you not watch Saturday Nights with all the amen about the black church?
Ryan Lemon
I don't remember this one, man.
Drew Franklin
You were not.
Ryan Lemon
You guys are home on Sunday night. I'm out on dates on Saturday night.
Drew Franklin
Are you?
Shannon The Dude
I was watching Fraggle Rock at the time.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, that was a good one.
Drew Franklin
How about Webster?
Ryan Lemon
Oh, love Webster.
Drew Franklin
And then of course, Shannon knows Al. Growing Pains.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Drew Franklin
Charles in Charge.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Drew Franklin
Punky Brewster.
Ryan Lemon
Yes. Have you seen her lately? Bow chicka pow Powder. Just saying.
Drew Franklin
Don't. You're gonna make me have to stop going over this if you're gonna sit here and talk about the Punky Brewster.
Ryan Lemon
Punky Brewster grew up.

Drew Franklin
Anybody know the names of the stars?
Shannon The Dude
Looking right at Blossom with her.
Ryan Lemon

Drew Franklin
Maya. And then who was on that show? Whoa.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, yeah. Joey Lawrence.
Drew Franklin
Joey Lawrence. Well done.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, I didn't know until you said that.
Drew Franklin
A lot of younger people have no idea what we're talking about.
Shannon The Dude
We're not getting old.
Drew Franklin
We'll take a break. Be right back. This ksr.
Ryan Lemon
Facts of Life. Facts of Life.
Drew Franklin
There's a time you gotta grow. You gotta show you know my deep facts of life. Yes. Facts of Life in the world Never.
Ryan Lemon
Sees what a great show.
Drew Franklin
Believe in what you believe. There you go. That's enough of that. Eight, five, nine, two.
Ryan Lemon
Wait a minute. Okay. I just thought of something. George Clooney on that show for a.
Drew Franklin
While for like us for. Yes. Yes, he was. No. There are people who got big star like George Clooney started on facts live. Leonardo DiCaprio started on growing Pain.
Ryan Lemon
Growing Pains.
Drew Franklin
He was like. He. He lived upstairs. I don't remember why. What the reason was he lived there, but he lived upstairs. Those are two major actors starred on really bad television shows. Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
Really great television shows.
Shannon The Dude
I love Growing Pains. I was a big fan of that.
Drew Franklin
One, 859-280-2287 little piece of news we didn't get to. The portal has changed for college football. They are now moving the date that you can transfer back until after the bowl games. So there will be a 10 day period after the semifinals. So it'd be like right now. Yeah, they will, they're moving a 10 day period after the semifinals will be the only times you can get in and out of the portal. Which means before that you can't do it. And the teams will only have 10 days. And really it's better for everybody except the two teams playing in the national championship because the two teams playing in the national championship will both have to get their portal class and get ready for the national championship. But 10 days and they're switching it to January and basically, you know, some schools are already in session and you'll just have to start late. But it's a good idea. I mean, I think this is good. The hope is that you don't get all these opt outs for bowls like you've had these last few years. Years. Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
I mean it's been almost two months season since the season ended and it feels like the portal stuff has been so fast paced over the course of two months. Now we're just gonna imagine if it's.
Drew Franklin
10 days, I mean literally they will have to enter the portal and decide where they're going in 10 days.
Shannon The Dude
And I, you know, these schools and players won't talk to each other before that 10 day window. Of course, I mean you're gonna have to be ready as soon as that date hits.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I'm sure they'll probably talk at least a little bit. But that's, I think that's probably, I think that's a good change. I think that'll make it easier.
Ryan Lemon
I definitely think the change moving it where they have, you know, after the, all the, all the bowl games is definitely a must need it. But I think they should have expanded it more than 10 days. These kids, if you're considering four schools.
Drew Franklin
The problem is these semesters start at these colleges.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
So like part of the reason they have to do 10 days is, you know, some colleges that will have been in session for a week or two and you actually do have to get these people enrolled. So I think they felt like the 10 days was the amount of time where you could get enrolled at every school if you needed to do it.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, Kentucky still trying to add to its roster right now and it's January 16th. I mean we can't pull the Big Z move with every player and just let them start school, you know, two months.
Drew Franklin
That was amazing with Big Z. Like, he started in what, like mid October?
Shannon The Dude
I mean, he sat down for the midterm.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, that was. That was, you know, next to the Randolph Morris facts. That was one of the bigger ones. I think we pulled it in a long time. Who's next?
Matt Jones
Syndicate. Done.
Drew Franklin
Syndicate, done. How are you?
Caller
I'm doing great. I had no. I had no clue that Ryan wanted to be mayor of Lexington. Is that true?
Drew Franklin
He does. I mean, he. He is. He's taken some stances that will make it hard for him like that he wants to tear down all of Nicholsville Road to get rid of the traffic. But nevertheless, he does, I think, at some point want to be mayor.
Caller
Well, what's really cool about that right now, guys, is I'm at the Kentucky League of Cities conference here at Embassy in Lexington, and all the mayors and all the city councilmen through the whole state of Kentucky is right here right now with us.
Drew Franklin
Well, there you go. Ron, you should go start.
Ryan Lemon
I'm just gonna show up right now, my running pants and hoodie and just kind of walk around and meet and greet and shake some hands.
Caller
Well, you'll be official member. Well, the reason why I was calling though, guys, is I'm kind of not upset. I'm kind of hurt about all the stuff that's going on with Cal. The losing of the games, the way that the fans now, his own fans have done turned on him right now. And I'm just reaching out to all the UK fans, is that when he comes here to Kentucky, that we don't give him a hard time, that we just welcome him in, be like a big brother to him. And I mean, you know, he's still a man at the end of the day, and I imagine what he's going through, it's gotta. It's gotta be pain.
Drew Franklin
Listen, I syndicate. I get what you're saying, but when you say, imagine what he's going through, the dude is making eight or nine million dollars a year. Year. Like, I'm sorry for him that it's probably difficult, but, like, he'll be all right. You know, when you talk about what people are going through, there's a lot of people going through a lot harder things than Cal. So, like, while I get what you're saying, like, I. He'll be fine. You know, he made decision. He can also leave. It's not like he's in a job that he can't get out of. If he wants to leave, he can. So, you know, I. I know what. It feels weird for people to feel like they do because we had so many good memories with him. But I also think. And I appreciate the call. A lot of people don't realize what the last two or three years were like. Think about it. Think about how many people left that staff and that office and how many really good people feel like they just couldn't be around it anymore. And then, no offense, look at who followed him there. Those are the only people who couldn't do anything else. I mean, like. Like it was not. There are a lot of people that have a reason to feel like they feel now. I'm not saying that means we should wish ill on him. I don't think you should do that for anyone But Drew, I get it.
Shannon The Dude
And have a nice life, but I just want you to lose basketball games. You know, Wish you good health. Me, too. Families good.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
You know, everything. Hopes good. I just want you to lose basketball games. It's basketball. You'll be right.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. You know, Pat Kelsey seems like a great guy. Seems like. I bet if he came here, he and I would get along really well. I want him to lose every single time he plays, and I hope he is sad after every game. That's sports.
Ryan Lemon
Caliperi could have just stepped away and not coached anybody, but he chose to coach one of our rivals in our conference that we play every year. Of course we're going to come after him when he comes into.
Drew Franklin
We are thankful for that.
Shannon The Dude
Yes. John Tyson should be the Y on February 1st.
Drew Franklin
He should. What if we did that? What if we showed his. That would be really mean. But if, when we came to the Y, we just showed a picture of John Tyson, like, had the Tyson thing, and he's the one.
Shannon The Dude
Or maybe we just spell Tyson. We have our Y be the right after the T instead of spelling Kentucky.
Drew Franklin
I mean, that would be. That'd be pretty mean. But who's next?
Matt Jones
Rhiannon.
Drew Franklin
Rhiannon. I got about a minute. Go ahead.
Shannon The Dude
My boyfriend loves this podcast, so can.
Drew Franklin
You say, hey, Ethan? Hey, Ethan. Okay, thanks. Bye. All right, now. I can't ever do that. Just gonna call and say, say, hey, Ethan. I'm not gonna be able to do that. Hey, you guys. God's food pantry wants to show love this Valentine's Day and give a million meals to those in need. You guys gave a ton of meals last Friday in honor of Mark Pope. It was awesome. They ended up with over 30,000 meals coming from the show last Friday. So let's do it again. Let's do $41. God's pantry.org KSR Many of you sent me screenshots when you did it. Really appreciate it when you do $41. Not only are you showing support for KSR, you're helping feed the community. Godspantry.org KSR use the card there. Donate $41. Ryan Lemon
We're just trying to say goodbye.
Drew Franklin
Say goodbye because he was good. Tomorrow we're at Bespoken Spirit.
Ryan Lemon
Yes. In Grey Line Station.
Drew Franklin

Ryan Lemon
Yep.
Shannon The Dude
That was a lot of fun.
Ryan Lemon
Last week was a lot of fun.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. Running it back a week later.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Ryan Lemon
And you're going to give away some tickets.
Drew Franklin

Shannon The Dude
So I like, I like to learn more about bourbon.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, that's right. I keep giving away tickets, by the way, be watching online as I continue to give finalists for the $4,000 on Monday here at the bar during the game.
Ryan Lemon
That's awesome. That's gonna be exciting. Monday night here for the big game.
Drew Franklin
It is. Thank you all very much. Nice to see our skydiving folks here from Nashville. We appreciate it. Thank you all. We'll see you later. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio.
KSR Podcast Episode Summary: January 16, 2025 – Hour 2
In the January 16, 2025 episode of Kentucky Sports Radio (KSR), hosts Matt Jones, Drew Franklin, Ryan Lemon, and Shannon The Dude delve deep into the current state of Indiana basketball, discuss recent changes in college football transfer policies, pay tribute to the late Bob Euchre, and indulge in a nostalgic trip down memory lane with classic TV show references. The conversation is enriched with listener interactions, insightful commentary, and a strong sense of community support. Below is a detailed breakdown of the key discussions and highlights from the episode.
The episode kicks off with an extensive analysis of Indiana University's struggling basketball program. Drew Franklin expresses skepticism about the future prospects of Indiana basketball, questioning whether the team will ever regain its former glory.
Ryan Lemon concurs, highlighting the failed experiment with coach Mike Woodson compared to the more successful tenure of former coach Mark Pope.
Shannon The Dude adds to the discussion by noting the overwhelming student dissatisfaction, emphasizing the significant drop in fan support during games.
The hosts lament the decline of a once powerhouse program, reflecting on the broader implications for recruitment and team morale.
The conversation transitions to listener interactions, where themes of player motivation and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals are explored. A caller raises concerns about whether NIL agreements diminish players' drive to perform.
Drew Franklin rebutts the notion that financial incentives reduce athletes' motivation, comparing it to high-profile athletes like Steph Curry and Travis Kelsey who remain driven despite lucrative contracts.
Ryan Lemon reinforces this perspective, asserting that players on the current roster are highly motivated and dedicated.
A heartfelt moment occurs as the hosts pay homage to Bob Euchre, the beloved Milwaukee Brewers announcer who recently passed away. The team reflects on his colorful career and memorable contributions to baseball broadcasting.
Ryan Lemon highlights Euchre's impact beyond radio, noting his presence in national broadcasts like the World Series for NBC.
The discussion takes a lighter turn as the hosts reminisce about classic television shows from the '80s and '90s. They share favorite memories and quotes from programs like Mr. Belvedere, Perfect Strangers, The Wonder Years, and Facts of Life.
This segment serves as a nostalgic bridge, fostering a sense of camaraderie among listeners who share similar fondness for these timeless shows.
The hosts explore the controversial topic of implementing congestion pricing in Lexington to alleviate traffic woes. They debate the feasibility and potential impact of introducing a small fee in high-traffic areas.
Ryan Lemon expresses skepticism about the effectiveness of such measures without adequate public transportation alternatives.
Shannon The Dude emphasizes the current deficiencies in Lexington's infrastructure, particularly the lack of sidewalks and safe pedestrian pathways, which would complicate the enforcement of congestion pricing.
Towards the end of the episode, the hosts discuss recent changes to the college football transfer portal, noting the shift in deadlines and the implications for teams and players.
Ryan Lemon supports the change, suggesting it will help reduce last-minute transfers and provide a more structured window for player movement.
A caller shares personal sentiments regarding Coach Caliperi, urging fans to maintain respect and camaraderie despite recent losses and frustrations.
Drew Franklin responds by acknowledging the caller's feelings but maintains a firm stance against the coach, emphasizing the competitive nature of sports.
In the concluding segment, the hosts encourage listeners to support God's Pantry by donating $41 to provide meals for those in need during Valentine's Day.
This heartfelt appeal underscores the show's commitment to community support and charitable initiatives.
