Our number two Kentucky Sports Radio 859-280-2287 let's try this again. You are getting distracted by the bourbon. Welcome back to Kentucky Sports Radio. There we go here live at Bespoken Spirits. See that's the thing. You start giving them bourbon. They you know by the Second hour, things start to get a little shady.
Shannon The Dude
Would think in theory, bourbon would make them louder.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but it makes them louder. They're having conversations. Which Rod, I'm Ron. I'm going to stop giving you compliments if you don't get him to stop talking. We're doing the show. All right. 859-280-2287. The text machine is 772-7745254. By the way, Aristotle was the first person to say the hole is greater than the sum of the parts. So if he, if he, if he has a problem with it, needs to call Aristotle.
Drew Franklin
That wasn't you, though.
Matt Jones
It was not me that came up with it. I, I just completely took it from Aristotle. All right, let's do a couple quick non UK things. First, we got back on in London after I complained about them pulling us in London. Turns out the London people had new ownership. Didn't know that their station had pulled it, got it back on. So now we are back on.
Shannon The Dude
I think they heard Kentucky Joe. They wanted to focus on the music.
Matt Jones
Right?
Shannon The Dude
That's what it was. Right.
Matt Jones
That's why we had Joe's calls to get back to focusing on the.
Ryan Lemond
Can you imagine if they just put us back on the air right when he got ready to sing that song?
Matt Jones
Probably wouldn't have been the. The best thing in the world. Have you. Shannon, do you know who Danielle Collins is?
Shannon The Dude
I do not.
Matt Jones
Does anybody in this room know who Danielle Collins is? You couple of you do not. The book I mean is her. She may be named Danielle Collins as well. I don't, I don't think Joan. Anyway, what I'm talking about this tennis player, Danielle Collins, okay. You know who she is? Everybody, you know, all right. Everybody needs to, when this show's over, go on at least for two more days, tick tock or whatever and see Daniel Carr. She's an American tennis player. She's playing in the Australian Open. All right. I don't know why, for some reason the Australians don't like her. I don't know if she did something sometimes, but like they, they don't like her in Australia. So they boo her. Etc during the matches. She wins a match to, to beat someone and when it, when it's over, you know, I don't know if you see tennis players, they wave to the crowd. They wave to the crowd and they all boo her. Now this is tennis. Like people don't. First of all, very, very few people get booed in tennis. It doesn't happen a lot. She I guess gets the boo. Rather than be rattled, she looks at the crowd, takes her hand, puts it on her lips like she's going to kiss, and then just smacks her butt.
Shannon The Dude
Oh, love it.
Matt Jones
And she looks at the crowd. You got to see this video. They're booing her. And she basically gives a kiss my ass right to the crowd. And that makes her boo her more. She keeps getting it up. Then they do the interview and they're like, what do you think about the crowd booing you? And she's like, I'd like to thank you all for preparing for my vacation here. And she becomes like a professional wrestler. This woman is 31 years old. She is talking trash. She plays again tonight. Okay. They're gonna be booing her off the court, but I, I, I've heard of her, but really didn't know much about her. But Shannon, now I think I have my favorite women's tennis player. Anybody who will look at a crowd and tell them to kiss their tail with them all booing each other, it's pretty awesome.
Shannon The Dude
That makes two of us. Had no idea who Daniel Collins is, but now she's my favorite because I think she just made tennis great again.
Matt Jones
She, you know, you need to watch herself. But she plays tonight, Drew and I, and it'll be while we're all asleep because Australia's got stupid time. But nevertheless, I'm going to be pulling for.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I saw her do it one.
Matt Jones
It's good.
Drew Franklin
We finally have some Americans making some noise in tennis. It's. Yeah, we're good at tennis and the women's, but that's one of the all time just crowd hill turns, really, in any sport. I mean, you don't see that in like a rowdy basketball. No, you'll get a little back and forth. But in tennis, you get a moment with the mic. You get that whole thing afterwards.
Matt Jones
It was very professional wrestling. Like, I was expecting her to do a DX chop out there. Like, I loved it. You need to watch. I feel like you would appreciate her ride. She's, she's ready to go.
Ryan Lemond
It's crazy to hear this story because as we just said, you know, tennis etiquette is, you know, you're all proper and nice.
Matt Jones
She was not proper and is.
Ryan Lemond
And it makes me feel like she is maybe going to draw some attention to now to United States women's tennis.
Shannon The Dude
So why are they booing her to begin with?
Matt Jones
I don't know. I'm not sure what happened.
Shannon The Dude
Crowd is, is the jerk, right?
Matt Jones
Yeah. I don't Know, there was something. It's a couple years ago something, and then she. She was like, she wasn't gonna play, but then she entered. Maybe she took an Australian spot or something. I. I don't know what it was.
Shannon The Dude
But I love her attitude, regardless.
Matt Jones
For what, whatever it was, she, you know, she ended up making it out. All right, so the other thing, again, this is kind of a Shannon Drew story. Have you seen the story about the chat GPT boyfriend? Do you know this?
Shannon The Dude
No, but I'm intrigued.
Matt Jones
Okay, so the New York Times, another article that I would read just for kind of the weirdness of it, because I read it and it kind of freaked me out. New York Times has a story about this woman. Apparently there are a lot of people doing this, but they focused on this one woman who. Her husband travels a lot for work, and she gets lonely. So she signed up for Chat GPT and she basically, through chat GPT, asked for an AI boyfriend. I'm not. I'm not kidding you. You need to read this story. It's wild. She signed up for an AI boyfriend and she says she has lookout.
Ryan Lemond
Whoa.
Matt Jones
Spoken.
Shannon The Dude
The bespoken poster almost fell on Ryan's head there.
Matt Jones
She says that she fell in love with the AI boyfriend because the AI boyfriend would write her immediately. Can someone please help with this so Drew can do this? She would. She would write the AI boyfriend. He would respond immediately. He would say all the things her husband did not say to her. He called her whatever, like, and whatever pet name she wanted, he called. Etc. And she said she found herself falling in love with him. And their marriage, which was apparently on the rocks, she says has been saved because the chat GPT boyfriend, which she knows is not real, does. I'm not kidding you. Does the things that her real life husband won't do.
Shannon The Dude
Well, at least.
Matt Jones
So then they. Besides the physical thing, because at least.
Shannon The Dude
Says the right things.
Matt Jones
So then they interview her husband in this story, and her husband says, yeah, I'm good with it because it's not real. They went to another couple, same thing happened with the woman, and they divorced because the husband became jealous of the chat GPT boyfriend. Man, these are like professionals. These are not like. These are like. Both these people have, like, professional jobs. So here's my question. Let's say your wife or girlfriends was doing this with a chat GPT boyfriend. Do you think you would be good with it? Because, like, then you don't have to talk as much. Or do you think Shannon. So, Shannon, you're good with it if.
Shannon The Dude
She Wants to sext with a robot. You can do that all she wants.
Matt Jones
Okay, so you're fine with. You're fine with sexting with a robot?
Shannon The Dude
Because I can do a lot more than that robot can. That's the way I look at it. That's probably why most of that technology.
Drew Franklin
Is getting really good.
Matt Jones
That's true.
Shannon The Dude
No, that's a different story.
Matt Jones
All right, so I was gonna say Shannon. Yeah, I'm sure you'd be like, do it. Then I don't have to talk to you.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Ryan, I'm gonna guess you would be jealous of the chat GPT boyfriend.
Ryan Lemond
I probably would be. You know what. What is she getting from Chat GPT guy that she's not getting from me?
Shannon The Dude
Emotional support.
Matt Jones
Yeah, Intelligence. Like all these very artificial.
Drew Franklin
But it's consistency, consistency, consistency.
Matt Jones
Intelligence support. All those things.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I think.
Matt Jones
But it's not real. Like, it's not a real person. It's just a computer.
Ryan Lemond
There's a lot to dissect here with these two stories you've been telling us. And I think probably their problems go a lot deeper than.
Matt Jones
Than that, you know, but she's saying we had problems.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
We were headed towards a divorce. And this. My ability to get this out to this computer is saving our marriage.
Drew Franklin
And I would say, is this person with us in the room right now? Like, are you okay?
Matt Jones
Because I would.
Drew Franklin
I would worry about her mental.
Matt Jones
So you. You think it's like.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I don't think that's normal behavior to talk to a computer over a human being and think that that's better.
Matt Jones
I just wonder. When I read the story, I. I tend to agree with you, but I was wondering, like, I feel like this is going to happen a lot more. I think whether it's not even. Like, I maybe leave aside relationships like kids having sort of friends that are not real via AI. Like, I don't know. I feel like this is going to be something we hear about a lot more.
Drew Franklin
There's some tragic stories already with kids and talking to, like, friends that are Chat GPT and robots.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
So pretty bad.
Matt Jones
So, anyway, you should read the New York Times store. It's one of the most bizarre stories for it.
Shannon The Dude
I am. We didn't get your answer.
Matt Jones
Oh, I'm fine with it.
Shannon The Dude
There you go.
Matt Jones
I mean, like, you know, plus, I already said I know more than Google. Like, you're not. The AI is not.
Shannon The Dude
You don't have to color those pet names.
Matt Jones
AI is not going to be able to do. To communicate like, I can. Who's up next. Jerry is up next. Jerry, Go ahead, Jerry.
Caller 1
Hey man, just like you thought, I've been following this, what the Department of Education did. And I think that in addition to what the Department of Education did, I think the fact that Ted Cruz is writing this nil bill in Congress and that's going to be. And he says, but he's doing it.
Matt Jones
But he's doing it with Cory for the players, but he's doing it with Cory Booker. So like the, so any nil deal in Congress is going to have to be bipartisan for reasons that are too complicated to get into, but the way the rules are. So I agree with you, the schools are probably better off that Trump won, but still they'll have to get 10 Democrat votes in the Senate to pass anything.
Caller 1
Well, one of the things I always felt that, you know, a lot of the player said about, about how what they want to see happen was that I didn't ever see. I'm even talking about progressive Democrats supporting any kind of bill that in any way would diminish women's sports. I'm not talking about the SEC and the Big Ten. I'm talking about like it's a Mac and the Big 12. And a lot of these conferences look at having to eliminate sports, including women's sports.
Matt Jones
But I mean that's gonna happen. Well, remember, remember though, remember though, the 22 million dollar deal, schools don't have to do that. So, so, so the colleges are saying if colleges want to give $22 million to their kids, they can. They're not saying that they have to. So I think what's going to end up happening is the power for schools. Your SEC, Big 10, ACC, Big 12 are going to do it and the other conferences are not. So like your Easterns and your Westerns are not. So I don't know that it's really going to change anything except I think the days of a player choosing to go to say, I don't know, two lane over Mississippi State, that might end. But because schools do not have to do it. They can, but they don't have to.
Caller 1
Well, one of the things I thought was pure comedy. I don't know if you listened to the Tennessee post game shows after Ohio State, but the Tennessee people that were crying because Ohio state had spent $30 million on the roster. It was Tennessee that sued to get the nil rules all thrown out. And, and that's what I think you're trying to happen here too is, you know, Tennessee thought they did something because they have one old billionaire well, they're finding out, you know, how State's got 10 guys like that. Texas has.
Matt Jones
But one of the things we've learned, and I appreciate the call, that spending money does not guarantee you a roster. I mean, Notre Dame, for all the money that school has, actually did not spend very much on their roster at all. Indiana, smu, like some of those teams, the. Look, the teams that spend the most money are going to have the best chance to win. Ryan. But we will continue, I think, to see teams that don't spend a ton win. And this $22 million I had, Walt. Vince Merrow said this to me. Vince Merrow said the $22 million will be a great equalizer for college football because we all now are spending the same amount of money. That's positive, I think, for schools like Kentucky football.
Ryan Lemond
I think it's very positive for schools like that. What's the matter? I think it's very positive for schools like that.
Matt Jones
If you stand behind me, it goes through your mic into mine, and that's how we get it.
Ryan Lemond
I thought it was booming to blow over again or something.
Matt Jones
That's how we get in that. 859-280-2287. Who's next?
Ryan Lemond
Kyle is up next.
Matt Jones
Kyle. Go ahead, Kyle. Hey, Matt.
Caller 2
How's everybody doing today?
Matt Jones
Doing good.
Caller 2
Hey, I wanted to talk about something you've talked about. You talked about yesterday. You talked about it before the FA cup in England.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Caller 2
So it's super popular in England, obviously, because of how popular soccer is there in the rest of the world. But it's not unique to England. We actually do have that here in the United States as well. It's called the Open Cup.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I just. Nobody knows about it. I'm talking about something that people would know about. That's the only reason I'm doing it.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I got you.
Caller 2
But I mean, it's similar here. You know, the smaller teams have a chance to play the bigger teams. The team here in Louisville, Louis City has had a chance to play several MLS teams. And actually, years ago, kind of like the team you were talking about that got to play in the Cracker Jack Stadium, the Cracker Box Stadium. We played an MLS team in UofL Stadium, and that was kind of cool, you know, being two big teams playing in a tiny college stadium. So similar environment. But it is. It does exist elsewhere, and it's a pretty cool tournament here in the United States as well.
Matt Jones

There's a lot of chances for upsets out there. Let's start with Tennessee at your Vanderbilt Commodores. What are the chances the Vols take a get upset?
Shannon The Dude
Probably not high to be honest with you but I'm gonna take Vandy anyway. What's the point spread on there?
Matt Jones
Not out yet.
Shannon The Dude
Okay. I'm gonna take Vandy.
Matt Jones
Vandy.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Tennessee.
Ryan Lemond
Tennessee.
Matt Jones
I'm gonna take Tennessee. They'll probably have as many fans there as Vandy.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Since they're. Since they're there. Texas is at Florida. Florida's got upset at home against Missouri. Does it happen again? Texas look good against Oklahoma?
Shannon The Dude
No, I think Florida's just got too much firepower. Too many good shooters on the team to lose again.
Drew Franklin
It's unrelated.
Matt Jones
See the Florida news this morning. What?
Drew Franklin
Oh, they're assisting another coach.
Matt Jones
Another coach charged with a sexual thing. Now that staff might clear that out.
Drew Franklin
I'm gonna pick them here. But figure it out. Florida.
Ryan Lemond
I don't Know if they lose two in a row at home. So I'm gonna go Florida.
Matt Jones
I'm gonna go Florida as well. Oh, and four in conference South Carolina versus 04 in conference Oklahoma. Who's going 05.
Shannon The Dude
South Carolina is going 05. They are really bad. Although Vandy just barely snuck bomb the other night. But I think Oklahoma wins this one.
Matt Jones
This one?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, Oklahoma.
Matt Jones
I'm gonna take Oklahoma. They're better than being 0 and 4 in conference. LSU at Texas a and M. We're all gonna pick Texas A. Ole Miss at Mississippi State. The battle of Mississippi. First time both teams have been ranked in this game in 14 years old. Ms. And Mississippi State gonna be one.
Shannon The Dude
Of the better games of the weekend. I think Ole Miss, you know, they just went on the road and beat Bama. I think they pull off another road win.
Drew Franklin
I'm conflicted on this one. I'll say Mississippi State. This is going to be a battle.
Matt Jones
Yeah, we by the way, if we want to win the conference, we kind of need Mississippi State to win this game. Ole Miss four and oh, in the conference they could be five and oh, if they win this game.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, Mississippi State. If it was at Missouri, I might take Missouri. But at home I'm gonna go Mississippi State.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I'm going Mississippi State. Remember we stopped to go to Ole Miss so we need Ole Miss to get some, get some losses in case we were lose to them. All right, let me give you the two ones that are probably most interesting to people here. Auburn, number one in the country goes on the road to Georgia. Who beat us. Can they get another victory at home in a huge upset? They're expecting maybe there are already students lined up. They're expecting one of the wildest crowds for a non Kentucky game in Georgia history.
Shannon The Dude
I wouldn't be shocked if Georgia pulled the upset. But I think that Auburn wins.
Drew Franklin
I'll do it. I'll take the dogs. Auburn's do a bad game. Brooms out. They played well in the first one without him. They got to lose at some point.
Ryan Lemond
Georgia made a believer out of me at home. I'm going Georgia also.
Matt Jones
I'm going to go Georgia. If Broom was there, I would take Auburn. But without. I think Georgia pulls it off and then you know, outside of the Kentucky game which we'll pick later, does John Calipari get his first win? Arkansas at Missouri. Missouri is 3 and 1 in the conference. Beat Kansas 1 at Florida. Can he can is this one he steal?
Shannon The Dude
It's just hard for me to see Caliper. I mean it would be hard for me to see him go oh and four before they did. I don't think he goes Owen five. I think Arkansas wins.
Matt Jones
You take Arkansas Road. Okay.
Drew Franklin
They're going to be an underdog. I gotta take. They can't go 05. I mean, I'm someone that didn't think it was gonna work, but oh, and.
Shannon The Dude
Five is they have too much talent. Right. I mean, to go two guys that.
Matt Jones
Are projected to be first round picks. Two guys and they're owing four. You're gonna pick. You're taking Arkansas.
Drew Franklin
They have to win this one.
Ryan Lemond
Arkansas loses. They go oh and five. They're losing.
Matt Jones
Wow.
Shannon The Dude
They go oh and five. They probably go oh and six because I think they get a tough game after that.
Matt Jones
Can I give you a little secret? I have in the last few games bet decently on Arkansas because I'm like, he can't keep losing. Like, they can't, they just can't keep losing. And then they keep losing.
Ryan Lemond
Yep.
Matt Jones
So I can't, I can't jump off the train until they actually win one. So I think I'm gonna, I'm gonna pick Arkansas. But I. If they're 05.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. I mean, and then they got Georgia after that, which they got George.
Matt Jones
Well, they got Georgia at home and Oklahoma at home. And then they come to us, right?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So, oh, and five. But I'm going to take Arkansas to win. That's a, that's kind of a rivalry game, the battle of the Ozarks or whatever. I think they end up winning. Who's next? Chase is up next. Chase. Go ahead, Chase. Hey, guys. This is a perfect segment for what I want to say. Okay, I can tell. Go ahead. I just want to say thank you to Tyson Chicken, Walmart, all the people that got rid of Cal. Okay. And then also, what do you think the key is to winning tomorrow, but most importantly, the Final four run. Well, I mean, the final four run. Appreciate the call. Tomorrow I think we just, we got to score, in my opinion. Drew, score. What's a magical number? 87.
Drew Franklin
I might even go higher, but yeah, that's pretty good.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, I, I, I, I. For me, it's. We got to make shots. If we make shots, Ryan, I think we can win this game. I, if we get to 90, I'd feel good about it. This offense for Alabama is not as powerful as their final four team was last year. If we make shots, we win. I do not think we will be able to stop them. So we're gonna have to score a lot.
Ryan Lemond
I think you hit it. Alabama is going to score. They're going to put the points on the board. We have to match that. Can't get down 10 in the second half and you'll have the one of those drops. They don't score any points because it may be tough to catch up because they're going to score a lot of points.
Matt Jones
I think it's going to be as simple as whoever shoots the best 3 point percentage wins the game. Whoever. This is one of those. Shannon.
Shannon The Dude
Yep.
Matt Jones
Whoever makes the threes wins. Both teams are going to get open looks. So the question is who's going to make.
Shannon The Dude
That's what I was about to say. The game is going to be one or loss behind the arc.
Matt Jones
Whoever.
Shannon The Dude
Whoever makes the most threes, I think wins.
Matt Jones
Neither of these teams are good enough defensively to stop the other one from scoring. They're all going to get open looks. The question is does Kobe Bray go 4 for 7 or 1 for 7? Does Jackson Robinson go 5 for 8 or 2 for 8? Like that's really what we're looking at is whether or not they make the shots. And if they do, then with the home crowd and all that, I think we will be able to get the victory. 859-280-2287. We'll take a break. Be right back here at this I keep wanting to say bellwether with smoking spirits ksr. Welcome back Kentucky sports radio here live at the smoking spirits club Blue nil. We are giving away UK Alabama tickets at the end of the show. Somebody just brought us food. Here it is from theas bass and biddy and I have to tell you, that is some good fish.
Ryan Lemond
It is really, really good.
Matt Jones
I, I'm kind. I got a high standard for fried fish that is very, very good. And it has hot sauce. And let me just warn you, if anybody eats there, I like my hot sauce. That's like. Yeah, that's like some real hot sauce. As Mario said to me when we went to the wing place, they that's black people hot sauce right there. Like that's not. That's not Ryan hot sauce. I might have to let. I might have to take some soda here. That's really good. I would continue to eat that. That's really good. What's it. Thea's bass and bitty here in, in the station.
Drew Franklin
I'm walking over there for lunch after just having one bite of that fish. That was so good.
Matt Jones
We've been around a long time a.
Ryan Lemond
Little bit eating hot sauce. I've Never seen.
Matt Jones
But like, I wasn't prepared for how hot that actually was.
Shannon The Dude
Now I'm curious.
Matt Jones
No, I mean, it's good. First of all, Ryan, you cannot.
Ryan Lemond
I am not, I am not going to try it.
Matt Jones
Don't even try crazy. Like, it's fine. I just wasn't ready for it. I didn't. I was thinking it was going to be one thing and it was, it was a different kind of thing. Dick Vital will be calling the. Dick Vital is going to call his first game of the year next Saturday. Duke against Wake Forest. I love Dick Vital. Glad to see he's going to get to do games. He's had, you know, throat cancer. He's. It's been a hard comeback for him. He loves it. He keeps wanting to do it. Now he gets to do it next week.
Drew Franklin
I gotta be honest, a week or two ago, when I think it might have been Seth Davis put out an interview with him at Dicky V, said he was making a comeback. I thought, what. I mean, I'm glad he has that attitude, but he's had like 40 something treatments on his throat. Like, how could he make a comeback? And here he is next week on the call. I'm going to make sure I'm tuned in. I'm very excited.
Matt Jones
That'd be a good game. Might be one of the few games I, I said Duke could go undefeated in the ACC if they, they might like have two chances to lose. And that will be one of Matt.
Ryan Lemond
Wake Forest, dude, you know, he's, he's been fighting a fight for a long time. He's been fighting a good fight. But he is college basketball, you know, he, when he's at a game, you think, okay, this game must be important because Dick Vital is here.
Matt Jones
Well, let me, like, what if you were to, if you were to say, like, what is the bet? If. What are your favorite announcers in college basketball or football? Like, when you see they're on the game, you're excited about it. Just for me, my play by play is probably Tom Hart because I love the guy. And then we don't get any of his games. But I like watching Gus Johnson.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Because of how excited he gets. You don't like him. He's too much for you. I also like, I like Iron Eagle when he does college basketball during the tournament for college football. I do like when Herb street does a game.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I think Jesse Palmer actually does a good job. I think Greg McElroy does a pretty good job. And then who do you not like? Who do I not Like, I have to think about it. Who do you like and who do you not like?
Ryan Lemond
You hit all the good ones. You know, of course, I go back a little farther with Al Michaels and Brent Musburger.
Matt Jones
I'm saying now, who do you like? Does the NFL?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Yeah. I do like Herbstreet. You know, he's done college football and NFL now he's so good. He's doing both. I like. I know you guys don't really like him that much, but I like Jimmy Dykes. Most of the time.
Matt Jones
I like Jimmy Dykes. I just don't know what he was drinking during the game the other day. Like, I like Jimmy Dykes. But when he was like, Kurt Cresa, what language do you speak? I'm like, dude, Jimmy, hang on.
Shannon The Dude
He may have popped a gummy or something before the broadcast that night.
Matt Jones
The whole broadcast was weird with him. And he was obsessed with that English professor on the Texas A. M. Well.
Shannon The Dude
To be fair, I kind of was, too. I mean, that guy did have nice hair. It looked like he shouldn't even been out there.
Matt Jones
Can I tell you?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, this is a fun fact of the.
Matt Jones
Yeah, so. Well, it's your fact, so I'll tell you. So Drew has a fun fact about. This is the Texas A and M coach that looked like a professor.
Drew Franklin
I started writing a story about this. I don't really know how to put it in words, but that guy with that outfit was Cal's first lead assistant at Memphis for, like, three years. So we all just thought he's this.
Matt Jones
Well, you got to tell the second part English.
Drew Franklin
Well, I think maybe some. There might have been giving him some ribbing when A and M would play Kentucky because the guy's appearance completely changed. I'm not even sure Cal knew who he was on the other bench.
Matt Jones
Cal, the first time he came, did not know who his lead assistant was and did not speak to him the first time.
Drew Franklin
If you look at the picture of the guy at Memphis and look at him now, they look nothing alike. But that guy that we thought was a cartoon character was assistant for three years.
Matt Jones
So, I mean, if you want sort of a summary of the change of Cal, he once had a guy who was so obsessive about X and O's that he ran plays for free throw rebounding. And now he has chin colon like. Like. I mean, that's. That's the change, Shannon, over the course.
Shannon The Dude
Of, like, 30 years, he doesn't care about the X's and O's. Right. His.
Matt Jones
Well, his first. If you go back to his first staffs at Memphis. They were great. They had Derek Kellogg, who. Who was a head coach. They had Robick. They had Painter, Josh, Josh Pat, Josh Pastner, you know, and then you throw. I didn't know they had this guy, but this guy was Robick Roebick.
Drew Franklin
Went to Youngstown, was a head coach for a few.
Matt Jones
So he was Robick.
Drew Franklin
He was with Derek Kellogg. The other one might have even been Barbie or one of those guys. But he was kind of the Robick roll.
Matt Jones
While Robic was just interesting. He used to be Ryan, a coach that seemed to really want X and O guys around him. All of those people have a reputation of being X and O guys, and now I don't know what those guys have a reputation of being right now.
Ryan Lemond
I think when Cal first got here, he was. Maybe it was aerobic influence, but remember, he. He changed from the dribble drive a couple of times to re. Reinvented it and kind of moved it around.
Matt Jones
And Robick was the ex. And oak. I mean, you know, I've said this story many times, but I've sat with Robick and watched him break down tape. And I know there's probably people who know basketball better than him, but I've never been around one. I mean, the way he saw things and the way he would write this, the tendencies. I was like, dude, this dude is a savant. And I'm confident. Drew, they don't have that on the staff now.
Drew Franklin
No, I like now with his staff. Pope trust the dude that's like the fourth assistant to step in and say something or to handle a responsibility. We haven't been to practices, but I've had people that go to practices say, you know, before, it might be like this a lot of places, but the head coach runs everything. The other guys are kind of helping out. Pope's got guys stepping in, reading off analytics. They all kind of have their own roles, and it's more of a collective coaching than it is at a lot of places where just the main guys running the show.
Matt Jones
You. During the transition, a guy wrote me who's kind of in the high school recruiting world, and he said, was it figure Cody figure. He said to me, again, I've only met Cody figure once. Not really spoken to him, but he said to me, cody figure is the smartest dude I've ever interacted with in college basketball. Mark Pope seems pretty smart, too. I mean, that combination is a pretty good combination. Who's up next? Randy is up next. Randy. Go ahead, Randy.
Caller 1
Good morning, fellas. Hey, with this new nil deal. And I know we're just navigating this and it's. Is this something that I'm kind of concerned about? I guess. Is this something that can be passed on to the fans where we see ticket prices increase?
Matt Jones
Yes. Let me give you a little secret. Let me give you a little secret. Anytime Democrat probably shouldn't say this, but anytime you hear about the raising of anything, it will always be passed on to the consumer and fan. So anytime you see $22 million is now going to be paid to players, it's going to be passed on to the fan. Anytime you see we're going to put tariffs, it's going to be passed on to the consumer. Anytime you say we're going to raise a tax on something, it's going to be passed on the consumer. So just always assume it's going to be passed on the consumer. Now, will all 22 million be passed on? Probably not. I think what's going to end up happening is some of these coaches are going to see decreases in their salary. Whereas you used to pay a coach $10 million, now you may pay him 7. But yes, this will be passed on to the fan in some way. How they choose to do it, I don't know.
Caller 1
And then I'm going to say this tomorrow. I think it's 9487 Kentucky wins.
Matt Jones
Hope you're right. I mean, I. They're not going to raise the tickets to where they raise $22 million through tickets. But I do think you got to remember probably half this money, maybe even two thirds of this money is going to come in because of the increase in revenue they made on this new television deal. This new television deal way up the amount of money each school gets. But there is almost certainly going to be some passing on to the faith.
Ryan Lemond
And the next television deal, it's going to go up even more.
Matt Jones
You know, that one's not for another 15 years long. The SEC deal is going to stay for a long time, Drew.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, people are just going to have to be used. I mean, it's happening now. Fans are already being asked for more money than they've been asked to contribute ever. And that's not going anywhere. Their hands are going to stay out wanting more.
Matt Jones
I think the people who are going to feel it the most, Shannon, are the big donors. They're going to go, hey, you're already given $200,000. How about 250? I think you're going to see that. Matter of fact, I know those conversations have been taking place. I think I said after the, after what was the game? What for the first game SEC get in Florida. Before the Florida game they brought the the 40 to 50 biggest donors in the room and said we need money.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, you already donate. You're already donating big money. You know, a small little hike for those people. You know, they're probably not even going to think twice about it because you.
Matt Jones
Because there is amount of money you can't raise from the average fan because they just can't pay it. You know, if some of these the people in the top, I don't know how much more you can ask them to pay. There it is. And we'll see who gets it. Now let me give you a little scheduling here. We will I will be doing the pregame show to we'll be well all we'll all be doing it 9:30am in the morning for the game at noon. The bar opens at nine. So if you want to come the bar opens before the show. We're serving breakfast all morning. We have good breakfast as Ryan always says, which is actually true. And 9:30 we'll do the pregame show. Then I will do the postgame show. Win or lose after the game. We are off Monday for Martin Luther King Day and for me to not watch the inauguration and then that night, Kentucky or Kentucky, I wish we were playing that night is the national championship game, Ohio State, Notre Dame. We have had a contest picking games that has people playing for $4,000. We're right now trying to finalize how many people are coming. They'll probably be a couple spots open. Be watching your social media to try to get one of the final spots to win $4,000. Drew on Monday night during the national championship at the bar.
Drew Franklin
It's always a fun atmosphere with so much at stake and you Know you always have a little extra twist here. Some at the end of the quarter, into the half, it just sit down.
Matt Jones
Come down, there'll be like four or five people. Somebody will win $4,000. Somebody will go home with nothing. And there's such tension. I've done this for like five years and it's always a lot of fun.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. The way you do it, like Drew said, build up every quite the quarter at the half at three quarters.
Matt Jones
We eliminate people along the way.
Ryan Lemond
Kind of builds the excitement a little bit and anxiety leading up to the winter.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So let's. Let's go over national championship game Monday night. Since we will not be on the air to pick it between now and then. Ohio State, Notre Dame. Any chance the plucky Fighting Irish get the victory?
Ryan Lemond
I'm going to take Ohio State to win, but I don't know if they cover. Is it still nine points?
Matt Jones
Nine points.
Ryan Lemond
That's a lot of points. So I guess if I was a betting, I'd bet Notre Dame to cover.
Matt Jones
I got Ohio State winning and I got them covering. I think they roll.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. Ohio State has just felt like the team that's destined to win the title this year. Plus, they have Jack Black as their head coach. I don't know how you against them.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I looked more. He's never looked like Jack Black, even a little bit.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
When Jack Black's got the shorter beard. Never, Never.
Matt Jones
One time. First of all, Jack Black is like, Ryan Day's in decent shape. Jack Black is big.
Ryan Lemond
Ryan Day's big.
Matt Jones
Okay, you tell him that to his face. What about you?
Drew Franklin
I don't want to sleep on the couch. So I'm picking Notre Dame, even though I don't really believe it. But I married into a Notre Dame family and they're excited. So I go Irish.
Matt Jones
All right, let's go through NFL games. Patrick Mahomes is at home going for three straight titles against the Texans. Who you got?
Shannon The Dude
No way Taylor Swift and the Chiefs go out this early in the playoffs. Let's go Chiefs.
Ryan Lemond
There's no way Mahomes loses at home. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
I'll go Chiefs.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Chief's gonna win this. I think this will be the worst game of the weekend. Commanders and Lions. Jaden Daniels goes up to Detroit. I got a Lion shirt on today. Who you got?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I think Detroit gets it done. Wouldn't be surprised to see them in the Super Bowl. They've had an amazing year.
Drew Franklin
I agree. Going with the Lions, especially because the nice lady from Detroit brought us this good.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
With the spread though. There's a lot of points on this, isn't it?
Matt Jones
I'm just asking who's winning. You don't have to do the spread.
Ryan Lemond
Okay. We're doing just winner. Yeah.
Matt Jones
Give me the Greek over here. I just want to know who you think's gon win the game.
Ryan Lemond
Detroit wins, but commanders probably cover.
Matt Jones
When did you be so into covering like you gamble less than all of us.
Ryan Lemond
It's true.
Shannon The Dude
He's better punt.
Ryan Lemond
Why you I'll be. I'll be watching the game. Bet and punt every possession.
Matt Jones
N. I'm gonna take the lines. Although I think it's very close. I think Jaden Daniels makes it close. Rams and the Eagles my upset pick of the weekend. I I picked the Rams when they were three and seven. I said on my on countdown to kickoff the Rams are my sleeper super bowl team and Myron made fun of me. If they win this week, I'll have that clip to have him eat it forever. So I'm taking the Rams to win in Philadelphia.
Shannon The Dude
I'm gonna go along with you. I hope you're right. I hate the Eagles. Give me anybody but them. I'm going with the Rams.
Drew Franklin
I like the Rams. They may be money last week as an underdog but Philly, they're gonna be at their most Philly in there.
Shannon The Dude
Oh, they're so obnoxious.
Drew Franklin
Gonna take over.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I go Philly also.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Mike Snow during the game apparently. So that's. That's something to watch for that Ravens and Bills. This might be the Super Bowl. I mean I think the Chiefs still can win because it's Patrick Mullins. But this like Sunday night, 6 o'clock. Who's not watching this? This will get an insane rating. Lamar, Josh Allen.
Shannon The Dude
Who you got game of the weekend. Give me Lamar and the Ravens on the road.
Matt Jones
Oh you.
Ryan Lemond
Wow.
Matt Jones
That's be his biggest win of his life.
Shannon The Dude
You're a one point favorite.
Drew Franklin
I believe it's only going to be the biggest win of his life for a few weeks because the Ravens are my super bowl winner. I have them winning this one.
Ryan Lemond
I think the Ravens killed them during the season. So I'm going Ravens even winning on the road.
Matt Jones
Wow, listen to you all. No respect for Buffalo. Upstate New York cold throwing people through tables. Buffalo. Buffalo wins on. I mean I love Lamar but yeah.
Shannon The Dude
I'd like to see Buffalo and you know, I think about Buffalo from the 90s got so close.
Matt Jones
Is Lamar your favorite ever player? It's my favorite ever player play at Louisville or is it yours? Yeah, I've never even liked a player that played at Louisville in the pros, but I love Lamar.
Drew Franklin
I know you're not looking at me.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you don't like Lamar. I know you're not like any player that played at Louisville. Perrin. Yeah, that's true. I'll put Parent ahead of Lamar. Okay.
Drew Franklin
Russ Smith. I really.
Matt Jones
I like Russ Smith. I like Bourbon going now.
Drew Franklin
He's doing a lot around.
Matt Jones
He's a nice guy.
Drew Franklin
But Lamar? No, I am picking the Ravens to win it, though. I. As much as it'll kill me, I want my guy, Derek Henry to be happy.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I'll go par and Lamar. Russ Smith. All right, let's go to Kentucky and Alabama. Kentucky just spread, just came out. Kentucky's a one and a half point favorite. Kentucky, listen, when this game got on the schedule before the season started, I thought, I don't know if we're going to get Alabama. I thought Alabama would be a little bit better than they are. I thought we would be a little bit worse than we are now. These teams, I think, are pretty equal. It's at home. Do you like the way. You like the Cat's chances?
Shannon The Dude
I think this is going to be an absolute shootout. I think both teams score in the 90s. I want to be optimistic. I'm going to pick Kentucky. 97. 95.
Matt Jones
Wow. So you're. You're expecting a. Yes, a shootout.
Shannon The Dude
Kind of like that Florida game a couple weeks ago or last week.
Matt Jones
That Florida game to me is one of the highest played, one of the best played offensive games I have ever seen in college basketball with two teams just executing play after play after play. I don't know if we get that, but I think it'll be good. What do you think?
Drew Franklin
I'm about as excited for tomorrow's game as any left on the schedule. Just because the style to play draftkings cannot make that total high enough. I am on the over. I think they're both going to be flirting with 100. And I'll say Kentucky wins a close one. Shootout.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I'm excited to watch this game. Gonna be a great game to watch. As a fan, there's no doubt about it, but I think both teams will light up the scoreboard. So I'll say Kentucky 94. 91.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I wasn't specific. I need to say 97. 94.
Shannon The Dude
Oh, it's close to what I've heard.
Matt Jones
Is that what you just said?
Shannon The Dude
97.95.
Matt Jones
First of all, I think it's going to be who all's going in here. I mean, hopefully you're all going if you want the tickets. But I got another people. I think it's going to be one of those really cool days in rough.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
The game is at noon. I wish it was a little later. Just so people. But at the same time we. It was a great atmosphere for that 11am it was against Florida. Game is at noon. It's on espn. I mean the students are going to be out there, probably some of them tonight. I think it's going to be a great atmosphere. And this crowd this year has been awesome for every game. But this is a game where they need the crowd. Right. We need the fans into it. Alabama is going to have runs. You know, they're going to have an 80 run sometime in the game. We're going to have an 8 run sometime in the game. But I do think ultimately Kentucky wins. I'm going to say I don't think it's going to be as high as y'all. I'm going to say 92, 88 and gets a massive win. A game that two weeks ago I would not have picked them to win.
Drew Franklin
True.
Matt Jones
I'll pick them to win this time. Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Because they seem to continue to learn how to play the physical ball in the sec. They're kind of figuring it out as they go along. That's why I think their best basketball is even yet to come.
Matt Jones
Thank you. The folks here at Bespoken Spirits Club Blue and I hosted this two weeks in a row. So give them a round of applause. I'll be on the pre. Will be on the pregame show 9am tomorrow from or 9:30ks. Bar opens at 9am no show on Monday. We're running the best stuff from like two years ago. It'll be interesting to see what we said two years ago about the UK basketball team. We'll see you later. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio.

KSR Podcast Summary - Hour 2 (January 17, 2025)
Introduction
On January 17, 2025, the KSR podcast, hosted by Matt Jones along with the KSR crew from iHeartPodcasts and Sports Talk 790 (WKRD-AM), delivered an engaging and multifaceted episode. The discussion spanned a variety of topics including sports analyses, societal trends involving artificial intelligence, and the evolving landscape of college athletics.
1. Danielle Collins' Bold Presence at the Australian Open
The episode opened with an in-depth discussion about American tennis player Danielle Collins and her controversial interactions with the crowd during the Australian Open.
Matt Jones highlighted Collins' assertive responses to boos, saying, "When she gets booed during her matches, she doesn't get rattled. She puts her hand on her lips and smacks her butt, basically telling the crowd to 'kiss my ass'" (04:00).
Shannon The Dude added enthusiasm, "Now she's my favorite women's tennis player because she stands up to the crowd like that. It’s pretty awesome." (05:31).
Jones and his co-hosts praised Collins for bringing a dynamic and theatrical element to tennis, comparing her demeanor to that of a professional wrestler. They appreciated her ability to maintain composure and turn negative crowd reactions into memorable moments, enhancing the entertainment value of the sport.
2. The Emergence of AI in Personal Relationships
A significant portion of the episode delved into the ethical and emotional implications of artificial intelligence in human relationships, sparked by a New York Times story about women creating AI "boyfriends."
Matt Jones introduced the topic, explaining, "There's this woman whose marriage was on the rocks, and she turned to Chat GPT to create an AI boyfriend. She says it's saved her marriage because the AI does things her husband wouldn't." (07:12).
Ryan Lemond expressed concern, "I probably would be jealous if my partner was doing this with an AI. It raises questions about emotional fulfillment and connection." (10:04).
The hosts debated the potential societal impacts, contemplating whether AI companionship could undermine real human relationships or serve as a supplementary support system. They acknowledged the psychological complexities, suggesting that while AI can provide immediate and consistent interaction, it lacks the genuine emotional depth inherent in human connections.
3. NIL Deals and Their Financial Implications in College Sports
The conversation shifted to the recent developments in Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals within college athletics, focusing on their impact on both institutions and fans.
Caller 1 raised a concern, "With NIL deals in place, do we expect to see ticket prices increase to offset the financial distribution to players?" (31:46).
Matt Jones responded, "Anytime you hear about raising something, it’s likely to be passed on to the consumer. So yes, fans might see ticket prices go up, although not necessarily the full amount distributed to players." (32:00).
The hosts examined the balance between providing athletes with financial opportunities and maintaining affordable access for fans. They discussed the likelihood of significant financial adjustments by institutions to accommodate these new regulations, emphasizing that while some costs may be transferred to consumers, the overall impact might vary across different schools and athletic programs.
4. DraftKings Predictions and Sports Betting Insights
A lively segment featured the hosts making predictions for various sports events using DraftKings, offering their insights and betting strategies.
Shannon The Dude predicted an upset in the Rams vs. Eagles game, stating, "I'm going with the Rams. They have a solid chance to pull off an upset against the Eagles." (38:35).
Matt Jones emphasized the importance of three-point shooting in upcoming games, saying, "Ultimately, it will come down to who shoots the best 3-point percentage. That’s going to decide the outcome." (23:53).
The discussion included analyses of team performances, player conditions, and strategic considerations, providing listeners with informed perspectives on potential game outcomes and betting opportunities.
5. Coach Dick Vital’s Inspiring Comeback
The hosts shared uplifting news about Coach Dick Vital's return to broadcasting following his battle with throat cancer.
Drew Franklin expressed admiration, "It's incredible to see Coach Vital making a comeback after his tough fight with cancer. His resilience is inspiring." (26:14).
Matt Jones added, "Having him back on the air adds a lot of value to the broadcasts. His passion for the game is unmatched." (26:30).
Vital's determination and positive attitude were highlighted as key factors motivating both the team and listeners, underscoring the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity.
6. Game Predictions and Strategies
The episode featured extensive analysis and predictions for forthcoming sports events, including college basketball and the NFL.
Kentucky vs. Alabama Game:
Shannon The Dude anticipated a high-scoring game, "This is going to be an absolute shootout. Both teams will likely score in the 90s." (41:18).
Ryan Lemond supported Kentucky's chances, "Kentucky is continuing to learn and improve. Their best basketball is still ahead of them." (43:23).
National Championship Preview:
Matt Jones predicted Ohio State's victory, stating, "I got Ohio State winning and I think they will cover the spread." (37:04).
Drew Franklin showed support for Notre Dame, "I'm picking Notre Dame because my family is excited about their performance." (37:38).
The hosts discussed key factors influencing game outcomes, such as team dynamics, coaching strategies, and individual player performances, providing listeners with comprehensive previews and thoughtful predictions.
7. Community and Listener Engagement
Throughout the episode, the hosts emphasized community involvement and listener participation.
Matt Jones encouraged donations to God's Pantry, "We did a great fundraiser last Friday, and we're urging more of you to contribute. They’re feeding a lot of people and will continue to do so even as Monday gets colder." (24:48).
Drew Franklin highlighted the station's local presence, "We're hosting events at Bespoken Spirits Club Blue, and you can win UK vs. Alabama tickets by engaging with us on social media." (36:17).
The segment underscored the station's commitment to supporting local initiatives and fostering a sense of community among listeners.
