Matt Jones
Welcome everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio, Wednesday, January 22nd. I'm Matt Jones. Where it is six degrees outside on one of the coldest days that I can remember in a long time. You can give us a shot on Clark's puppet shop phone line 859-280-2287. A Vision Auto GL machine is 772-7745254. I'm in studio. So I'll get to decide who gets on. And then the. Yeah. This edition sponsored by the TJ Smith law office. You call TJ will make them pay. We're going to take calls here through the first hour, and then we'll take a little break. We have a guest coming on and then do it after that. So Ryan is on his campus visit for his son, which also may be like his campus visit since he's basically thinking he's going to college next year. Drew is in Nashville for an conference. So Shannon is just me and you. Are you ready to rock?
Shannon The Dude
I am. And I can't wait to see Ryan's pictures where he puts on, like, the team jersey and the helmet and embarrasses his son. You know, that's going to happen.
Matt Jones
Well, I mean, it's going to happen when he's in college. The whole time he's like, walking around.
Shannon The Dude
With a helmet and a jersey.
Matt Jones
If you were to. Yes, exactly. If you were to look up living vicariously through your child.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
It would be a picture of Ryan Lemon. And he's going to do that as well. You know, he always threatened to move to wherever Josiah went to school. I don't know if that'll happen at Hanover because it's a drive, but he's. I could see it. He is. You know, between me and you, he's gonna be pretty sad. He's gonna be empty nester. I think that's gonna be tough for him.
Shannon The Dude
He'll be all right. And the good thing is he'll be within driving distance if he has to go to a game, Right?
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's true.
Shannon The Dude
It's not like he's moving off to California.
Matt Jones
He's had kids in his. Like, people. There are people listening to this who know if you have, like, three kids, you know, you could be used to having some little snotty nosed rugrat in your house for like 25 to 30 years. Right. And then all of a sudden, they're gone. That's got to be quite a change, isn't it?
Shannon The Dude
30 years living with your. Your kid, though.
Matt Jones
I mean, not with one kid, but if you have multiple kids and you space them out and you stagger them out, it might be 30 years, you got some little thing running around.
Shannon The Dude
I think Ryan can adapt, though. He's got dogs, you know, they can fill the void of the kids. He's got yappy dogs.
Matt Jones
They are just as yappy is. So I, I'm here in this building in, in Lexington, where the Lexington studios are. And Shannon, you may not know this building. Mario's in here, and he does. This has become like, there's a lot of, you know, the kind of big time folks in Lexington, they live in this building. So if you get to the top, there's apartments up there. There are uk, you know, staff members that live up there. You've got, like, a lot of really rich people in Lexington that live at the top of this building. So when you pull into the parking lot, you drive around, like, the cars. I mean, there are. In this parking lot, there's like a Maserati. Oh, all right. Did you know there was a Maserati in Lexington?
Shannon The Dude
No. I figured Ryan had already damaged every Maserati.
Matt Jones
There's a Maserati, there's like a couple of Porsches. Because the front row is like, the top row is for the rich people, right? There's a cyber truck, which, you know, you know my opinion about cybertrucks. The problem is I know who drives this one, but I want to be like, come on now, give me this thing. And then you got all this stuff. So it is like, it's almost like a car show. When you pull into the. What, what's the name of this building? What is it? City center. I think it's called City Center. When you pull into this building, that top row of the garage is like, who can bling out their car the best?
Shannon The Dude
So that's like the, the level of all the rich people. So I got to ask you, where did you park? Because you bel right there at the top with the Mazda.
Matt Jones
No, no, I, I, I actually did park on the top level. I, I took some one sp. There's like eight general spots, and I just. One of them was open, which is rare.
Shannon The Dude
You come to that building, like, twice a year, and you're already taking liberties at the very top of the parking space.
Matt Jones
Well, you know, I'll park in. There's a coach's spot right there. I'll park there.
Shannon The Dude
You park wherever you want. Just pull up on a sidewalk at Dunkin Donuts.
Matt Jones
That's true. All right, so today, the. Oh, I have one question for you. One. And this is also for the audience. 772-2774-5254. So one of my drains last night. Closed. Okay.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Like a shower drain. And normally a shower drain would close. You know, you might have, like, gunk or. Or hair in it. And it would close slowly over time. Shannon. You know, the water would take. And then this went from 100% fine to closed, like, the next day. And I'm not sure why we. I call the plumber. The plumber comes. I mean, they're up there. I'm hearing, like, drilling.
Shannon The Dude
Drill, baby, drill.
Matt Jones
Nothing. Nothing is breaking it. So it's not clearly, like, hair or anything. Like, nothing is breaking. They have to come back today. But here's my question for you. These were nice guys, all right? So let me be clear, because they might listen to the show. I don't know, Shane. Nice guys. But I want a. What's the word here? A dealing with people piece of advice from you or the listeners.
Shannon The Dude
Okay?
Matt Jones
I. When they come in from the snow, their feet are really muddy. Okay. From having walked from the thing. Right. Going through the snow, their feet are. Monday, I have. What do you call it? A thing on the ground? A mat.
Shannon The Dude
What do you call it? A mat.
Matt Jones
You know my name?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Minus one T. I have a mat. And I guess they didn't use it because when they step in, I have hardwood floors. There's dirt everywhere. And as they go up the step. Shannon. Which are also hardwood. There's, like, footprints on each step. So I'm like, oh, they've trapped in all this mud. But I thought, you know what? They're doing me a favor. It's fine. But then they said they had to go back out and get something.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So I went through my head. Do I say to them, will you please wipe your feet? Coming in now. They're coming in to clean up my thing. Right. They're. They're. They're doing me a service.
Shannon The Dude
Right.
Matt Jones
They are charging me.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. It's not free. You're paying them to be there.
Matt Jones
So do you. Do you think that I should say before they come back in, hey, man, can you guys not track in all of this mud?
Shannon The Dude
A hundred percent. I mean, that's on them. That's a common courtesy. When you go to somebody's house, you should wipe your feet? I mean, like, especially if you're walking through mud and if you're a company that's coming over to do a service. Absolutely.
Matt Jones
Presumably, they're used to doing it. Right?
Shannon The Dude
Right, Right.
Matt Jones
So. So I did. But Shannon. And I felt bad.
Shannon The Dude
Why'd you.
Matt Jones
Because I felt. Well, because I could just tell one of the Two of them didn't love that I said it.
Shannon The Dude
I mean, I would say, look, unless you're.
Matt Jones
And then they did go outside. They did. They did. Well, I had to. I had to clean it up. I cleaned. I was on my knees. Clean it up the steps, all the way up the. Up the thing.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, but.
Matt Jones
So you think it's not rude to ask them even though they're coming to. To. To clean their feet?
Shannon The Dude
No, they were the rude ones. By coming in with muddy feet. It's a good thing you didn't have carpet. That would have been a completely different conversation. That's true up on hardwood, but yeah, I think that's. That's a bad look on them. So I would have done the same thing. Hey, wipe your feet. What are you doing? I've got to clean up this mess now. Maybe they were planning on coming back after the fact and cleaning up their mess. That happens sometimes.
Matt Jones
Maybe.
Shannon The Dude
But if they didn't offer, then, yeah, I would have said, take your shoes off.
Matt Jones
All right, all right. I just wanted to make sure because I didn't want to feel bad. I felt a little bit bad about it. Now what I don't feel bad about is the firestorm I seem to have set off yesterday with my comments about Seth Greenberg. So if you watch the N.J. williams. So if you watch the. Or if you listen to the show yesterday or you watched the video that came out, I sort of said, hey, we don't need Seth Greenberg and Jay Williams to tell us how to be fans. Most of those comments were about Seth, but Jay also seemed to not like it. And two things happened, one of which is Jay Williams wrote and went blanket, let me come on there, and. And whatever. And I didn't. I was surprised to see that I've always gotten along pretty well. Jay. I haven't talked to him much in recent years, but then he texted me and said, let me come on the show. And I said, okay, so that's happening at 11 o'clock. But I don't know, Shannon, if this is a hostile takeover of the show or if he just wants to come on and chat. He's been on here many times. The conversation has always been pleasant. We were in school at the same time at Duke. I was a law in law school when he was an undergrad. So it's always been. Been pleasant. But there was a little bit of the, of the tweet that made it seem like, is it possible this is a hostile. Like, is it possible Ryan in Hanover is going to have to crawl under the table at 11 o'clock.
Shannon The Dude
Good show for Ryan not to be here today. And I know you better to know that you're not going to let anybody take over the show. But it did feel very hostile when he tweeted blanket. You know, blanket. Like, I don't see Jay throwing too many four letter words on Twitter. But he did last night at you.
Matt Jones
He. It was. That was surprising. So I honestly have no idea what we're. What we're now. When he texted me, it was completely polite. So I'm going to lean towards. He's going to be like, not in. Ready to punch, I hope. But you know, Shannon, I have to be ready though. Like I can't be, you know, I can't be. I can't be not ready. So even though I think this is going to be gentle, my mind's got to be ready with jab. Right, left, left hook. That's right uppercut. I gotta be ready just in case.
Shannon The Dude
You can't go into a fight with your hands down.
Matt Jones
That's exactly right.
Shannon The Dude
Ready to go.
Matt Jones
You can't be blindsided. I mean, I might have spent some time last night having clips in case he says something.
Shannon The Dude
Exhibit A. Yeah, I may have come.
Matt Jones
With evidence to show the jury, if need be. Shannon. I'm just saying, I'm not. Now, if it's friendly, we don't have to do that. But if it's not like I got, as the kids would, I got the receipts that they might need if need be.
Shannon The Dude
Well, Billy and I were hyping it up on the pre show like this is about to be a heavyweight fight. You know, Holyfield, Tyson.
Matt Jones
We'll see. I don't know. It's all good. That's going to all be up to him, right? Yeah, we just got to see what. So I think we'll know within two minutes what level of hostility because I intentionally did not call him on the phone because I wanted to leave, you know, I wanted to leave it for the air because I thought if I called him, like he'd get all of his stuff out. Then I'd rather just leave it for the air.
Shannon The Dude
Well, I hope if he is hostile, it's. It's legitimate and it's not fake hostility just for the radio.
Matt Jones
No, no, no, I don't want that.
Shannon The Dude
You know, if he's gonna bring it, I want him to bring it.
Matt Jones
We're not out here producing no fake conflict. No, we got. I have enough real conflict in my life which gets me to the other guy, Seth. So Seth, on the Other hand, I put that out. And in that comment, of course, I say something to the effect of that he sent. He has sent angry, hostile texts to me in the past. You have seen them, right?
Shannon The Dude
I've read them. I was like, whoa, can't believe he tweeted. Can't believe he texted that to you.
Matt Jones
Not one, not two, but three college basketball commentators retweeted my video and said, oh, I guess I'm not the only one that gets them from Seth. I mean, Rob Doster, Jeff Goodman, and Sam Vicini, all three said the same thing. And unbeknownst to me, Shannon, we created a college basketball commentator online conversation last night about Seth and his communications when he gets angry. What did you think of that?
Shannon The Dude
I just wonder, like, do you have anybody in your life other than, like, you know, your parents, but, like, do you have a friend in your life that you would be willing to go to bat so much for, that you would be willing to text another person the things that he texted you? Yeah, I don't know what I do. I mean, I have many.
Matt Jones
No, no. I have many people I would go to bat for, but I mean, but. But things he sent to me.
Shannon The Dude
That's what I'm saying.
Matt Jones
I can't imagine sending to someone even if they said something about me. You know what I mean?
Shannon The Dude
My man Seth really loves some cow.
Matt Jones
And then I was shocked to see what was interesting to see that other people have said that. Like, he's done that to other people. Not just me.
Shannon The Dude
Multiple other people over Cal or just other.
Matt Jones
Well, I don't know. I don't know what the. Over the other. The others were about, but it's like, you know, I would say to Seth, like, this is. This is basketball. Why are you getting so upset at people, not just me. It's one thing to get upset at me, Shannon, if you talk about getting upset at me getting lie.
Shannon The Dude
That wouldn't make me feel so bad if I knew that other people were getting the same type of text that I was.
Matt Jones
So last night I was like, I got Jay Williams coming on the show. I went and hit the hard bag, or the. What do you call it? There's a soft bag and a hard bag.
Shannon The Dude
Is that right? Well, you got the heavy bag.
Matt Jones
Sorry, Speed bag. And the heavy bag. Soft, hard. Whatever. Speed, Nevi. And then we got. I'm not the only one that Seth comes about. That made me feel better. 859-280-2287. We're gonna make this for me and Shannon and ask anything Wednesday. No game this week, so we got a lot of openings of places to go. Jay's gonna be on at 11, but we'll talk about anything up until then. Got some other stuff to get to. Nice to be with my man std.
Shannon The Dude
Appreciate that.
Matt Jones
Here's that.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, well, very unfortunate initials.
Matt Jones

Hi, I'm Cindy Crawford and I'm the founder of Meaningful Beauty. Well, I don't know about you, but like, I never liked being told, oh wow, you look so good for your age. Like, why even bother saying that? Why don't you just say you look great at any age? Every age. That's what meaningful Beauty is all about. We create products that make you feel.
Shannon The Dude
Confident in your skin at the age you are now.
Matt Jones
Meaningful beauty. Beautiful skin at every age. Learn more@meaningful beauty.com Foreign welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. You know, I hear the. The Louisville feed. So for those of you on Lexington, I don't get to hear the commercials you. You listen to. I hear the Louisville one and I don't know who does it. Shannon. But sometimes I don't know if they're asleep. They just run like seven straight of that voiceover guy going, this is Kentucky's boards radio. This is Kentucky's. It's like he's trying different tones of over and over. That's the, that's the spot where they probably had to run a PSA but didn't have one or something. So they had to fill that in there for 15 seconds. But like, why do we do that? Why do we run that seven straight times?
Shannon The Dude
What if I told you it was actually your fault?
Matt Jones
Why do you think it was my fault?
Shannon The Dude
Because you. Because there's a certain amount of exact time. Like that last break, I think was three minutes exactly. And sometimes when, you know, you record a spot for us, you might give us a minute and a half. You might give us 50 seconds.
Matt Jones
Oh, you know what? I'm busy right now. Don't. Don't blame blame in this stuff.
Shannon The Dude
So when stuff that comes up, you know, 10 seconds short, they gotta.
Matt Jones
You know what? I got.
Shannon The Dude
I got what it is.
Matt Jones
I got some stuff here to do. I would. That was not supposed to turn around back on me. 859, 280, 2287. People are telling me there's. And I didn't think about this booties that the.
Shannon The Dude
You're supposed to wear those.
Matt Jones
You're supposed to wear foot foot foot booties into people's houses. Why didn't they do that?
Shannon The Dude
Well, that's what I was going to ask you. I mean I don't want to throw this company under the bus.
Matt Jones
I'm not either. I'm not gonna say which one. Because the guys were nice. And even though it's not fixed yet, they're going to fix it. I think so. I think it's like.
Shannon The Dude
But that should be normal part of normal. Especially when it's muddy and wet outside.
Matt Jones
It feels like it should have been. One person writes, Matt, the only thing I'd be disappointed in is if you let Jay Williams win the conversation you better not back down just because you're boys. Well, come on. Have you ever known me to, like.
Shannon The Dude
No.
Matt Jones
You know, the amount of people in media that I consider really my friends. Like, really my friends are the people on this show. Tony Vanetti and Terry Minors, Nick Coffey, and that's probably it. Like, there's other people that I'm acquaintances with.
Shannon The Dude
Right.
Matt Jones
You know what I mean, Shannon? I'm acquaintances with them, but, like, the job is more important because I don't. It's not like they're at my house. You know what I mean? Besides that, like, they're acquaintances. They're not friends.
Shannon The Dude
You know, kind of like coaches. I mean, you got.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Shannon The Dude
You can't really be that close of friends with a coach, because sometimes you gotta be critical of them.
Matt Jones
I've become friends. I've said this many times with two people at uk. Dwayne Peavey and Vince Merri. I'll never become friends with another one.
Shannon The Dude
Yep.
Matt Jones
Not that I regret my friendships with Vincent Dwayne, but it does. Shannon, put you in a spot where you got to be where, like, it's hard because they're your friend.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. It's good to be friendly. It's good.
Matt Jones
I'll never do. Yes. I'll never do it with another one because Dwayne's gone. So, like, obviously, that's fine. But with Vince, you know, it is hard. I. Vince is my friend, but pretty much everyone else, like, I think. I think Greg Doyle's advice to me a long time ago, don't be your friend. Because once you become friends, and we see this with Seth, you cannot be objective. Right. Seth Greenberg cannot be objective about Cal, and that's just how it is.
Shannon The Dude
And, you know, when you're in the media, you have a responsibility to be honest, to be real, and you can't do that when you're criticizing somebody that's a good friend of yours. It makes almost impossible to do.
Matt Jones
When you get in your 40s, do you want any new friends anyway?
Shannon The Dude
No. Like, all of my friends. My friends that I have.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Why do you need new ones? Like, you got plenty of at least.
Shannon The Dude
20 years at this point.
Matt Jones
When you start to meet people in their 40s, then, like, they usually want something from you.
Shannon The Dude
Yep.
Matt Jones
You know what I mean? Like, it's. You got to go with the people from Mario. That's a good lesson for you. The Day One people. All right. Before, when you become a big star, you just remember the Day One people. Kate, how are you? Kate?
Shannon The Dude
Hey.
Matt Jones
I'm good.
Shannon The Dude
Well, you answered the question about, what are you doing?
Matt Jones
Somebody's coming to your house with mud on your feet. But I asked them to wear booties. Before I make the call, say, would you mind having them make sure there's a pair of booties in the. So let's say they get there and. Let's say they get there and they don't have their booty out. Would you. Would you tell them, like, Would you say, hey, I need you to put that on before you come in?
Shannon The Dude
Yes.
Matt Jones
Could you please put those off? They say, I don't have any. Guess what. I keep a pair. I keep a box of them in the closet right by my front door. See that? I don't know that I. Shannon, I'll never be that prepared for life that I will have a box of booties in my house for next to the door for people who come in. I'll never. I know me. I'll never be that prepared.
Shannon The Dude
That shouldn't be your responsibility. It's just one step ahead of everybody. It sounds.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Okay. You're just. You're just better than us. No, no, no. But I have one other thing I want to go back to, but thank you for the compliment. Last week, you were talking about Tyler Childers, and you mentioned the song Charleston Girl, I do believe. Yes.
Shannon The Dude
Just so you.
Matt Jones
You probably are a step ahead of me on this, but just so you know, do you know who Charleston Girl is? I do not know. Sierra Farrell. You know who that is? Yeah, she's like a country singer. Is that who it's about? Yeah, that's his girlfriend, Charleston Girl, and she has a great song in Dreams. Go listen to it. I mean, she's made it big now, but Sierra. All right, well, there you go. I did not know that. Appreciate the call. She's also a country singer. Do you. I. I love Tyler Childers. I saw. You know, it's April 19th is when he's there at Kroger Field.
Shannon The Dude
Oh, really? Yeah. Is that already sold out?
Matt Jones
There's an amazing. I don't think it is, because there's a. On UK's campus, you know, they got that building where Kennedy Bookstore used to be, and now it's like this real fancy building. And they put ads on the wall of the building, like, you're in, like, Times Square. And there was a huge one last night of Tyler Childers. It was like, his face. I thought, man, that doesn't look like something that would be in Lexington. It was, like, right there on campus, just this huge. On the. On the building. Projection of Tyler Child.
Shannon The Dude
I'm amazed at how quickly he has shot up. I've never even heard of the guy until you brought him up, and he was playing little bars, and now he's, you know, playing.
Matt Jones
So I'm in Amsterdam with 30 people just six years ago. And now you got seven years ago Ed in Michigan. What's up, Ed? Hey, man. Remember when you had Big Willie on a few days ago last week? Yes. Okay. And you played on the Lily Collie Stein man song. Yes. All right. Well, they got a much better song you should have played him. Was called Big Big Willie, and it's done by Scott Collins. Y'all guys, check it out. I'm sure. I'm sure you'll love it. All right. I appreciate the call, but the. The point of playing that song for Willie was not because it was good. The point of playing it was because. Because it was. It was bad. That was why we were.
Shannon The Dude
But he loved it, though.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I think Willie, I. I said this to him when it was over. Willie's one of the first people that played for Cal that I think could do media, like, for real. You know, I think that the standard for me, for former players doing media is high. I think there's a lot of former players that do it that aren't even necessarily very good at it. I think for former UK players, Rex and Jack have been the best. And Mike Pratt, of course, back in the day. But I think Willie, if he applied himself, could do it because he's smart, he's personable, he's good at storytelling. I told him that after. Man, if you ever really want to do this, I think you could. We'll take a break. 859-280-2287. It's KSR. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call TJ.
Shannon The Dude
He'll make him pay. Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Here we go. Come on, now. Like, I don't. I turn on 98 wonder bull. Find me a better song than this.
Shannon The Dude
Do they even play this stuff?
Matt Jones
He doesn't even. First of all, no, never when they play this song. Secondly, like, it's just. Well, and the writing, it's just great. Charleston Girl, 859-280-2287. You and I were cracking up during the break. That dude's commercial. I. I don't. I don't know how he. How did that pass? Like, how do they put that out? What's his name? Is it Russ McDowell?
Shannon The Dude
I should know his name. I mean, he runs at every.
Matt Jones
I think it's.
Shannon The Dude
It's like Russ McDowell, the timeshare guy, Right?
Matt Jones
It's the timeshare guy. Like, a lot of you, I'm sure all of you who've listened have heard it, but he's like this old guy, and he was like, I'm not a liar. Well, I don't even want you to think I'm a lawyer. If you think I'm a lawyer, I'll whip that tail.
Shannon The Dude
If I sound like a lawyer, I apologize.
Matt Jones
Your. I apologize. How did he make that commercial? Like, who cleared that?
Shannon The Dude
Well, I just want to know, like, who, you know, said that this guy was a lawyer to begin with.
Matt Jones
Does he walk around and people go, I think he's a lawyer?
Shannon The Dude
Accused this guy of being a lawyer. Like.
Matt Jones
So I. During the break, I was doing my. My impersonation of that commercial, and I got so into it, I actually dropped a bad word.
Shannon The Dude
Yes.
Matt Jones
Shannon looked up quickly like, oh, no. Did they go for the air?
Shannon The Dude
I mean, it was entertaining. Yeah. Sometimes it shows. More entertaining off the air than it is.
Matt Jones
Completely agree with you. One person, which is me and you, one person writes, Matt, I think the problem is BBN feels like they have to win all of the online conversations instead of allowing others to have different opinions. And that's why announcers don't like us. Maybe so, but here's the thing. When these announcers go on tv, they're making an argument, and what bothers them is they say their argument in their little TV world, and then when somebody goes, wait a minute, I have a different opinion. It infuriates them. I like when people disagree with me online so long as they don't, like, get personal and, like, cuss at me or something. But I expect people to disagree. But there's nothing worse than listening to two people who are not UK fans tell UK fans what they should believe about their program. That's so ridiculous. And that was my point yesterday. You know, I can have an opinion of what Republicans should do, but at the end of the day, I'm not a Republican. So, like, they get to decide. Same thing with me. Like, I'm a Kentucky fan. You are not. And so when you tell me what, what. What bothered me about cess comment was real Kentucky fans. Yeah, like, I'm a real Kentucky fan. Seth is not. He doesn't get to decide who a real Kentucky fan is because he ain't part of the group.
Shannon The Dude
And we heard that you mentioned it yesterday. That same verbiage. Real Kentucky fan, you know, it was.
Matt Jones
The real that bothered.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, yeah.
Matt Jones
Like Jay. Jay's comments I disagreed with. They didn't bother me. Sass bothered me. Because I'm like, you don't get to say what real is because you ain't one of us.
Shannon The Dude
And you're not going to win an online conversation or argument with. With our fan base. I mean, J even said, it's true. We got the biggest family. We do have the loudest microphone out of anybody. Yeah.
Matt Jones
All right, I want to ask you a question. Do you know who Shannon Jack Schlossberg is?
Shannon The Dude
No, I don't. Should I know?
Matt Jones
Do you know Jack Schlossberg? He's kind of. He's online. He is JFK's grandson, I believe. Yes, he's JFK's grandson. I don't know which of the kids he his. But, like, he. He's like, in his 30s. Women think he's handsome, and he's on tick tock a lot, and he's always making, like, jokes and stuff. So he's kind of online famous.
Shannon The Dude
Okay.
Matt Jones
He tweeted out. He showed a picture of J.D. vance's wife, right. Who was at the inauguration, who is very, you know, he's beautiful. She looked great at the inauguration, J.D. vance's wife. And he said, who is hotter, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis or J.D. vance? Now, here's the problem. Jacqueline Kennedy is his grandma.
Shannon The Dude
That's a little weird.
Matt Jones
Okay. That was his grandma. Yeah. So he's basically saying, who's hotter, my grandma or J.D. vance's wife? And of course, a lot of people on the Internet were like, ugh, that's weird.
Shannon The Dude
We're talking about grandma in her prime.
Matt Jones
Why would you be asking people about how hot your grandma is? It's like, that's not weird. It was just a conversation. Shannon, I'm going to say that's really weird to me. Is it weird to you?
Shannon The Dude
Absolutely, it is. And again, we talking about grandma in her later years or grandma when she was the same age as J.D.
Matt Jones
I think you should be talking about how hot your grandma is to begin. I agree.
Shannon The Dude
I agree with you. It's just a weird standard to begin with. I'm gonna go with who's tweeting?
Matt Jones
Who's tweeting out, though? Who's hotter, my grandma or this woman right here? Who's. Who's asking that question.
Shannon The Dude
Unless he's just trying to trash J.D. vance's wife.
Matt Jones
You know, I don't think he was, though, because he. I think he complimented her in the tweet. I. To Me. There's a lot of weird stuff that goes out there, but asking people to write your grandma in an attractiveness scale to me is one of the weirdest. That just is one of the cringier things I can think of.
Shannon The Dude
That's. That's definitely strange. I think we. Do we have a delay? Are we on a delay here?
Matt Jones
Maybe. Well, I don't know. We'll see. Scott. Go ahead, Scott. Yeah, good morning, guys. Maybe I got a quick question. Nothing against Mark Pope. I think he was a. He's a perfect pick for our team. But why was. Why is, like Bruce Pearl them on the never talk to list? Say that again. Why for uk why was Bruce Pearl on the never talk to listen. Yeah, yeah. Why was he never considered? Y'all may have answered it before, but I don't. I don't listen. I couldn't give you the exact reason because I wasn't in the room, but I've talked about when Mark Pope was hired. There were four coaches there. There was a list of eight. There were three at the very top. That was Danny Hurley, Scott Drew, and Billy Donovan. And then there was a list of probably six that were in the next tier. That list included Mark Pope, it included Shaka Smart, and then it included four people that all got scratched by the hires up. So I think these were some people that were on Mitch's list, but then people higher up. Now, I don't know if it was the president or the board, I'm not sure, but people higher up said we can't talk to them. It was Nate Oates, it was Bruce Pearl, it was Sean Miller, and it was Chris Beard. I think the reason. I don't know this, but my guess is the reason for all of them is exactly what you would think it is, is for Chris, for Sean Miller, he had been in some trouble with the ncaa. For Chris Beard, there were obviously personal issues that, you know, I think everybody knows about. For Nate Oates, I think there was something like going on that made it hard for him to leave Alabama. I don't really know a lot about that either. And then for Bruce Pearl, it was his NCAA problems that he had had at Tennessee and for the higher ups at Kentucky that struck all four of those people off the list. So that the final decision was going to be between Mark Pope and Shaka Smart. It might have been Mark Pope anyway, even if all those people had been on the list, I don't know. But that's what it was in the end. Okay. Okay. I didn't know if it was something deeper than that or it just needs some clarification or like I said, I think, you know, Pope is a perfect pick for us. I love what he's doing and, and I'll just curiosity. I appreciate it. Yeah, appreciate the call. I mean, you know, they focused initially, Shannon, on those top three candidates.
Shannon The Dude
Yep.
Matt Jones
They got two nose with Danny Hurley and Scott Drew and then Billy Donovan. They kept playing, right? They kept playing. So they ended up where they couldn't basically take the, you know, wait any longer, which got them to that second tier. And then it became a lot easier because on that second tier, a lot of those guys got knocked off.
Shannon The Dude
I, along with a lot of people really wanted Danny Hurley here, but after watching him this season, he's a loose cannon. I don't know that that would have worked here at Kentucky. And maybe I want to say that.
Matt Jones
Let's talk about that in the next. Cause I want to talk about that because that is. That is him. Last night was a whole nother thing. Right. Like, I mean he's, he's on one, but we'll save that for just a minute. It sounds like you got caught back up. However you did that. I don't know. Meaningful Beauty, beautiful skin at every age. Learn more@meaningful beauty.com yeah, this is the song that Mario doesn't know. Yes. Brand new flavor in your ear. He didn't know it and he was like, what is this? And I felt like, come on man.
Shannon The Dude
Hanging out with Mario makes me feel old, man. It makes me realize, like, he doesn't.
Matt Jones
Know anything from Drake is the best rapper of all time. It's like, come on man, were you alive during Biggie and Tupac? Like, do you remember that that existed?
Shannon The Dude
So Mario's the one.
Matt Jones
And he was. And the answer is I was not. That's his answer. Yeah 8592802287 Text Machine 772-774-52541 Person writes Matt, what do you think about Danny Hurley's if he had come here, would it have worked? Well, he would have won, but I think the rest of it would have Been a lot. So last night, he gets into it with a referee. Danny Hurley, he gets into it with a referee, and the referee, like, is talking to him and he's yelling at him. So referee does what a lot of referees do, Shannon. They walk away, right?
Shannon The Dude
Yep.
Matt Jones
It's like, I'm not going to deal with this. He screams at him and then says something like, how are you walking away from me? I'm the best bleeping coach in college basketball. You think he, which is a.
Shannon The Dude
Think he believes that?
Matt Jones
Wow. Well, no, of course he believes that. I mean, I got, I know he believes that, and I'm not even. He might be right, Shannon. Let's be real. He's one, two straight titles at Connecticut. Like, I think he deserves a lot of credit, but I can't believe he said that to a ref. And he got caught on camera. So after the game, of course, the, the, the media is like, hey, man, did you just yell this? And his answer was yes, but why don't you all put the cameras on the other coaches as much as you do me? Well, because they're not the best bleeping coach in college basketball. Danny Hurley, like, who. With whom much is given, much is expected. I, I, he's the most arrogant coach in the country. I'm not saying he can't be because they're winning, but I couldn't believe he said that.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, the camera is always on him because he's over there screaming like a madman, loses it and Yeah, I mean, that's what I was going to ask you last segment. Like, I don't. Yes, he would have won here. There's no doubt about that. That, but he is not a Mitch Barnhart guy.
Matt Jones
First of all, he and Mitch Barnhart would have killed each other. If Danny Hurley and Mitch Barnhart were together, they would have killed each other. I had someone who's very close to Mitch, and I will just leave it at that, say to me that while Mitch felt like he had to go after him, there was a deep breath when it was over, because Mitch's thought was, I'd have just been going from one of those guys to the other.
Shannon The Dude
Yep. It feels like he and John Caliperi have a very similar, Very similar.
Matt Jones
Now, I don't think Cal is quite as arrogant, as strange as that sounds, or at least he expresses his arrogance differently. But like, and then think about if you think the spotlight is on you at UConn, dude, what if he was doing that stuff? He or she, Shannon, like, if he was doing that stuff here he's leading PTI every day with it. And I don't know if that dude could handle that scrutiny, Shannon, on a daily basis.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I don't know that he could have either. And again, it's just like Caliperi, when you're winning, you can get away with a lot.
Matt Jones
We saw get away with it. But, like.
Shannon The Dude
But when you lose and you're acting like a lunatic, it's not going to work out here for you.
Matt Jones
He's a lunatic. Luckily, though, for him, he wins. And so he's able. He's able to do it.
Shannon The Dude
Hard to be humble when you're, you know, back to back.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's what that one guy said. It's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way. Right. What was that guy's name? That's saying that. Will. Go ahead, Will. Hey, Matt, you know my disdain for Seth Greenberg.
Shannon The Dude
I don't know if anybody remembers this, but when Tubby left, he was on.
Matt Jones
Sports center, you know, that afternoon, basically insinuating that we had ran Tubby off because of his race and, you know, not to take an account because maybe.
Shannon The Dude
Tubby's friends, like he is Cal's friend.
Matt Jones
That the program was kind of dropping down and Tubby left on his own accord. But that's really where my thing started. I don't know if anybody remembers. Yeah, I don't remember him specifically saying that, but. But here's. Here's another message to announcers because this happens every time. Every time a coach leaves, people say to us, kentucky basketball will never be great again if you lose this. And they are all wrong, every one of them. They were wrong when Rick Patino left. They were wrong when Tubby Smith left. They were wrong when John Caliperi left. And they might be wrong one day if Mark Pope ever leaves. Kentucky basketball is bigger than any one coach. Part of what used to frustrate me about even some of our own younger fans, like, what are we going to do if Calberry leaves? Is because this program, look, Cal was great for a while here, but we'll find another coach now. We'll get dud sometimes. We had a dud with Billy Gillespie. But you know what will happen after the dud? The next coach will find a great one, too. And the program takes great, very good coaches and makes them great. That's what Kentucky does. Takes very good coaches and makes them great. With the exception maybe of Cal, we've never taken a coach Shannon, that was already great. They've all been guys who are really, really Good. And then we help take them to the next level.
Shannon The Dude
Yep. The brand is already established. The brand is here and it always will be here.
Matt Jones
That's exactly right.
Shannon The Dude
That's another thing. You talk about feeling sorry for Cal when he made comments like, hey, it's the same thing. We're just moving it to a different city. Cal University. When he said, and how'd that work out?
Matt Jones
How'd that work out? He's 0 and 5. That's what tried to move the same thing to a different city is. And so these announcers, they all believe that their guy leaves and this falls apart. And if there's one thing we've seen over the years, it ain't going to fall apart because of one person. I don't care who the person is. They can be replaced. The one thing that matters is that name on the front of the jersey. Jordan. What's up, Jordan?
Shannon The Dude
Hey, Matt. First time, long time.
Matt Jones
Who are. What's up?
Shannon The Dude
Me and my best friend, also a huge UK fan, are at odds right now over hypothetical. I was hoping you could help us out with this.
Matt Jones
Go for it. So.
Shannon The Dude
So we had talked about the next five games are pretty crucial for us and we were talking about being 4 and 1.
Matt Jones
We would be thrilled. Yeah. So we. It's what, at Vandy, at Tennessee, Arkansas at home, and then what are the next two?
Shannon The Dude
Ole Miss. We have South Carolina and Ole Miss.
Matt Jones
Yeah, South Carolina at home, Ole Miss on the road. Right. Yes, four and one would be great. Yes, four and one would be great because you're playing two games at Ole Miss and at Tennessee that I think you could easily lose either one and then you got to hold serve in the other three for sure.
Shannon The Dude
So the hypothetical.
Matt Jones
One with the one.
Shannon The Dude
Being Arkansas, or would you rather go.
Matt Jones
3 and 2, 3 and 2 and beat Arkansas? Appreciate the call. 3 and 2 and beat Arkansas week. We can't. I mean, losing to Arkansas, especially with the start they have. And now as we'll talk about, Boogie fland out, you can't. Can't lose to Arkansas.
Shannon The Dude
No, that's the one game. Yeah. Three of those are very winnable games. The other two would be, you could.
Matt Jones
Lose at Tennessee and at Ole Miss. Still be all right.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Still be all right for the tournament because we're not going to win the sec, I don't think. Either way. So we'd still be all right for the tournament. We got some breaking news. But I just got like five seconds, right?
Shannon The Dude
You got like a minute. You got a minute.
Matt Jones
Oh, I got a minute. Okay. Breaking News Liam Cohen Announces he will get well, the Bucks announce a raise for Liam Column. He pulls himself out of all coaching searches and will stay with the Bucks as the offensive coordinator.
Shannon The Dude
Whoa.
Matt Jones
That's surprising because he was probably going to get, it looked like he was going to get the Jacksonville job.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I mean, we've thought for the longest time his goal was to be a head coach. You would think he would take it.
Matt Jones
Yeah. It's interesting. I wonder why that is.
Shannon The Dude
I don't know. Money? Is it possible that he got paid to be an assistant coach?
Matt Jones
Last night they reported that he was being hired by Jacksonville. So I texted Tony Khan with Jacksonville, said congrats on Liam Cohen. He's awesome. Oops.
Shannon The Dude
Has he read it yet? Is the red receipt on there? Can I delete that unsend?
Matt Jones

Release Date: January 22, 2025
Duration: Approximately 50 minutes
Timestamp: 02:35-06:59
The episode kicks off with Matt Jones welcoming listeners to Kentucky Sports Radio (KSR) on a particularly cold January day. He humorously discusses the studio's parking situation, highlighting the presence of high-end cars like Maseratis and Porsches in the top-level parking spots.
Matt Jones [05:38]: "There's a Maserati, there's like a couple of Porsches. ... it's almost like a car show when you pull into the parking lot."
Shannon "The Dude" joins in, teasing Matt about his parking choices and the luxury vehicles surrounding them. The conversation sets a light-hearted tone, illustrating the unique environment of the KSR studios.
Timestamp: 06:00-10:08
Matt shares a personal experience about a plumber who arrived at his home with muddy feet, leading to an unexpected clean-up duty. He grapples with whether it was appropriate to ask the professionals to wipe their feet before entering.
Matt Jones [09:22]: "It was a common courtesy. When you go to somebody's house, you should wipe your feet, especially if you're walking through mud."
Shannon advises Matt that it's entirely reasonable to request clean footwear from service personnel, emphasizing mutual respect.
Timestamp: 10:09-16:15
Matt addresses the backlash he received from comments about Seth Greenberg and Jay Williams, prominent figures in the college basketball community. After critiquing their influence on fan perspectives, Jay Williams approached Matt to appear on the show. Matt expresses uncertainty about the nature of the upcoming conversation, wondering if it might be contentious.
Matt Jones [12:13]: "I have to be ready though. I can't be – I can't be not ready. So even though I think this is going to be gentle, my mind's got to be ready with jab, right? Left, left hook. That's right, uppercut."
Shannon supports Matt, highlighting the importance of authenticity and expressing hope that any confrontation remains genuine rather than manufactured for the show.
Timestamp: 16:16-22:16
The discussion shifts to the complexities of maintaining professional integrity while managing personal friendships within the media and sports community. Matt reflects on his limited close friendships outside of the show and the challenges that arise when personal connections intersect with professional responsibilities.
Matt Jones [22:16]: "You got to go with the people from Mario. That's a good lesson for you. The Day One people."
Shannon concurs, emphasizing the necessity of separating friendship from professional critique to uphold honesty and objectivity in media roles.
Timestamp: 22:17-31:38
A significant portion of the episode delves into the recent coaching changes at the University of Kentucky (UK). Matt and Shannon analyze the potential replacements for the departing coach, discussing various candidates and the reasons certain prominent coaches were excluded from consideration. They express confidence in Mark Pope as a suitable successor, praising his achievements and potential fit within the UK program.
Matt Jones [36:29]: "But we ended up where they couldn't basically take the, you know, wait any longer, which got them to that second tier. And then it became a lot easier because on that second tier, a lot of those guys got knocked off."
Shannon adds her perspective on candidate choices, expressing a preference for stability and the importance of selecting a coach aligned with UK’s values.
Timestamp: 31:39-50:05
Listeners contribute to the conversation through calls and messages, posing questions about team strategies and hypothetical game outcomes. One caller, Scott, inquires about why Bruce Pearl was excluded from the "never talk to" list of potential coaches. Matt provides a detailed breakdown of the selection process, highlighting NCAA issues and personal conduct as key factors.
Another caller, Jordan, presents a hypothetical scenario regarding the upcoming crucial games for UK’s season, seeking Matt's advice on game prioritization. The hosts engage in strategic discussions, illustrating their deep understanding of team dynamics and competition.
Shannon The Dude [47:24]: "We had talked about the next five games are pretty crucial for us and we were talking about being 4 and 1."
Timestamp: 41:00-44:23
The hosts critique Coach Danny Hurley’s conduct, particularly his confrontation with a referee during a game. They debate his coaching style, acknowledging his success but questioning his temperament and its compatibility with the UK program.
Matt Jones [42:50]: "Danny Hurley ... he's the most arrogant coach in the country. I'm not saying he can't be because they're winning, but I couldn't believe he said that."
Shannon agrees, noting that while Hurley’s competitive nature is commendable, maintaining professionalism is crucial for sustained success.
Timestamp: 44:24-51:40
As the episode progresses towards its conclusion, Matt emphasizes the resilience of the Kentucky basketball program, asserting that the team's legacy transcends any single coach.
Matt Jones [46:32]: "The brand is already established. The brand is here and it always will be here."
Shannon echoes this sentiment, reinforcing the enduring strength and reputation of UK’s basketball tradition.
The episode wraps up with brief advertisements and a promotional segment for upcoming guest Jay Williams, setting the stage for future discussions and interactions.
Matt Jones [05:38]: "It's almost like a car show when you pull into the parking lot."
Matt Jones [09:22]: "It was a common courtesy. When you go to somebody's house, you should wipe your feet, especially if you're walking through mud."
Matt Jones [12:13]: "...my mind's got to be ready with jab, right? Left, left hook. That's right, uppercut."
