This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio Thursday, January 23rd. I'm Matt Jones on like our 25th consecutive frigid day here in Kentucky. It's, I think, supposed to get a little bit warmer over the next couple days, but it's, it's a little, you know, I think, I think I'm over it now. You know, I, I enjoyed the snow, enjoyed the ice, but like, there comes a point that's enough heat wave right now.
Ryan Lemond
We've gone from 1 to 21. I mean, it's a big jump.
Matt Jones
It snowed. It's so 9 inches in new Orleans. That has to feel like, so that can't be right. Clark's pumping shop, phone line 859-280-2287. A Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-774-5254. In this dish and sponsored by the TJ Smith Law Office. You call TJ. He'll make them pay. We'll be taking your calls all day. Shannon, I want to thank you yesterday. Got a lot of compliments about you in that co host row. You were rocking and rolling there.
Shannon The Dude
Well, that was a lot of fun. But you know, your interview with Jay I think just was the best part about it. No doubt.
Matt Jones
The Internet was certainly the most talked about part about it. But you, I thought you did great. I went back. I don't, I don't usually go back and listen to Show. But I had to drive to Louisville, so I did. And I thought you did a great job. And we missed you two who are back. Ryan was on a campus visit to Hanover. Did you feel like you were back in college?
Ryan Lemond
I. We ate in the college cafeteria. I was in there with all the students eating lunch.
Matt Jones
It's so much better than when we were in school.
Ryan Lemond
They had buffets, they had a salad bar. I can't remember last time I even saw a salad bar. So.
Matt Jones
I love a good salad. I know. What's the place over here? Jason's Deli is like the last place I think of where you can get Covid.
Ryan Lemond
They've all gone.
Matt Jones
Yeah, the. When. When I. Sometimes, you know, Georgetown, my class was at 1:30. It's got moved up to 1, so it's hard for me to get there now to eat. But I. When it was at one, I'd go in their cafeteria and eat. And it's crazy how good it is. These kids today, they have it so good and they don't even know it.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, they had. And all the different choices, different lines to get in. It was amazing. So thank you.
Matt Jones
Drew. You were in Nashville? Yes. Everything solid with the ON3 world.
Drew Franklin
Saw lots of PowerPoints, lots of spreadsheets, met people from other fan sites. You know, I've been doing this job over 15 years, but we never interact. So I actually felt like I was part of a big, bigger company.
Matt Jones
But were you, like, you were kind of the king, though? Because, like, KSR just. We dwarf all of them.
Drew Franklin
I mean, I just looked down on all of them. Yeah, no, no, it was really fun. We had lots of fun, but it was a lot of like being a part of a business. Look at this. Presentation session three. We're going to talk about this.
Matt Jones
Yeah, when I owned it, it wasn't part of. I did. We didn't do any spreadsheets. When I owned it, it was like, hey, the site has crashed again. Can we call them again and see if we can fix it? So we got in here, we're at KS Bar and Grill. We got Letcher county, we got Barberville, and we got Everts. Look at this.
Ryan Lemond
How about that?
Matt Jones
This is Eastern Kentucky in the house here.
Ryan Lemond
And we're supposed to get more Eastern Kentucky people here later this morning.
Matt Jones
Yeah, the South Laurel KSR Club is coming, which we'll see. Are they big KSR fans or did they just.
Ryan Lemond
Look, the bus just pulled up.
Matt Jones
There it is. Or did they just want out of school? Hello there, Laurel County.
Drew Franklin
It's a Big bus for this.
Matt Jones
That is a big bus. I think it'd be funny if they had that big bus and like three kids. But nevertheless, we're excited to have them here. As Shannon mentioned yesterday, had Jay Williams. That was. Seemed to be the talk of the Internet yesterday, sort of. Well, first of all, you guys weren't here. What was your take on it from afar?
Ryan Lemond
I. I really like Jason Williams. Start with because goes by Jay.
Matt Jones
Jay.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Yeah, Jason was. He hasn't been that in 20 years.
Drew Franklin
There were too many of those in basketball.
Matt Jones
Yeah, there was too many. And one of them like got charged with murder. So I think he changed his.
Ryan Lemond
Understood.
Matt Jones
I think he changed his name to Jay after that.
Ryan Lemond
I've always liked him since he found my wallet at RUP arena and gave it to you at the cow camp like five or six years ago. So I forgot about that.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's right. He did. He did find. Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
So I respect him because he knew coming on MJ was going to do MJ and MJ was going to come after him.
Matt Jones
Seem to be really focused on him calling me mj.
Ryan Lemond
I've never heard anybody call you mj. But you guys are boys. You get boys. So you're mj. He had to know you're gonna come after me. There were times like I felt like he was a suspect on the witness stand and you were giving him a cross examination. I don't. That's where I debt 100% would have been underneath this table if I was sitting here beside you.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
And for him, he acted like. I felt like he was kind of. Shannon said this talking in circles, trying to defend himself, but never really were saying the right things. But the way it ended made me feel pretty good about it.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I thought he did himself. Like it seemed like people's reaction for the most part was positive towards him at the end. I think he did himself a favor.
Ryan Lemond
He did.
Matt Jones
Coming on, you know, he's used to this whole like first take world. So like he loved it. When it was over, he was sending me like fire emojis. Like that was great. Like he. I mean, I think he's just kind of used to that whole thing. And so he was. He was. He was loving it. What did you think about it, Drew? Yeah, Here they come. Boy, there's a lot of. Wow, this is quite a group.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Matt Jones
How are you all? Yes, just have a seat. Ever you got. You all could take those. Yeah, there's all those tables over there. Yeah, but go ahead.
Drew Franklin
I'm with Ryan. Not to Take away from the content. I couldn't believe how many times he called you in, Jay. I even texted someone. I was like, I can't pay attention because he just keeps saying mj. J. Billis was jb. Yeah, I guess that's just what he does. But that was throwing me off. I'm with. I saw mostly online reaction. I think everyone kind of on the same page. It was good. He did. If I have a J Dub JW complaint, he. He acted like he wasn't insinuating that Kentucky was in a bad spot when Cal left. He was definitely on that.
Matt Jones
He was definitely.
Drew Franklin
He was like, no, I was just saying.
Matt Jones
Yeah, definitely that part.
Drew Franklin
He was twisting his words a little bit. We weren't falling for it. We all know he was saying, who you gonna get? Like, cal's leaving. And then yesterday, he was like, no, I was just asking, who's the list? I was just saying, who could it possibly be? That was. I didn't fall for that.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, it's just. That's not true. He. But with that said, I wanted to. You know, I went back and listened, and when I went back and listened, I was like, yeah, I wish I had not. Wish I had not interrupted him as much as I did, because, like, you're right. I kind of had him on the witness stand. But, you know, that was probably slightly too much. I do want to thank the 900 of you who felt like you needed to write me to say something like that. I don't understand the people who are fans of this show who think it's somehow productive to tell me when you, like, think something was really, like, I. I get it. I sent out a tweet that I thought I was a little. But it is amazing how people who claim to like the show can be so, like, nasty in their responses and then go, hey, but, hey, man, still love you. Yeah, I'm gonna go to their job and go, you know what? The way you. The way you did that plumbing was just. But you know what? Still love you.
Drew Franklin
Still a fan of your pipes.
Matt Jones
Still a huge fan of. Of all your pipes, so. But thank you very much.
Drew Franklin
My other big takeaway. And until later, I thought this was Shannon. The heavily edited clip that had, like, dramatic music behind it. When you played Jay's back, though.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that wasn't us.
Ryan Lemond
At first.
Drew Franklin
I thought Shannon spiced.
Matt Jones
That was awkward because it did look like Shannon had made that somebody online.
Drew Franklin
It was online.
Shannon The Dude
I caught that later this time. I had heard that clip, too.
Matt Jones
And, yeah, it was a little it was a little much promo for you there, but it was. I really enjoyed having him again. He. He and I go way back, but we really haven't spent a lot of time together in recent years, so it was nice to. To talk with him. And I thought, like I said, I think in the long run, he actually did himself.
Ryan Lemond
I do, too.
Matt Jones
A service with UK fans. I think people were more positive about him after than they were before.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I think it's because how they ended it, you know, he finally like, hey, man, look, I probably shouldn't have said that. I'm sorry, but I'm on live T4 hours. I'm gonna say some things that aren't right sometimes.
Matt Jones
You know, I get that you can't. Anybody whose job it is to sit and talk all the time, you're gonna say something that people are gonna disagree with. Like, you just. You just are. What? My overall point in that conversation, though, still is the same, which is these dudes that have close relationships with coaches, they're just. They're even. Like yesterday, he was like, well, I'm not going to say you can't turn it around. I mean, I get that. But then you guys are fine. He said, I criticize Mick Cronin. Well, you're not friends with Mick Cronin. Right, Right. Like, it's easy to criticize people you're not friends with. I just think that makes it tough. I also think, you know, I watched the. The Cow game last night. They came back and won. He had a little bit of a. A flurry. But I just wish. Here's the bottom line is that caller called and said after, if Kentucky stunk this year and Arkansas was good, all those guys would be throwing it in our fight.
Ryan Lemond
Sure they would.
Matt Jones
All of them.
Ryan Lemond
Sure they would.
Matt Jones
I don't know why they get angry or whatever if you do the opposite back. And they're just. They're. They're low. They're not going to say Cal, you know, they're not going to criticize Cal. They're just. They're just not. And so that's it. That's that. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
I mean, game day is about to ramp up now that football's over. It starts this weekend. And if Pope had their record, there would be a graphic with a Pope with a frown on his face, and it would say, oh, and 5B being in trouble. Should they have split ways with Cal? And that would be the number one segment. So since it's the other way, we're allowed to have that segment on our.
Matt Jones
Exactly so let's say that I think they're going to Auburn, Tennessee this weekend for game day. If you look at the schedule, the smart thing for them to do probably next week would be go to Kentucky, Arkansas.
Ryan Lemond
Sure it is.
Matt Jones
I mean, that's the smart thing to do. They haven't announced it. If they came in, what do you think the reaction would be to at least the Seth and Jay part of it or. First of all, you know, the last few times they've come to Rupp, we haven't really gotten great crowds for that. Do you think people would come for this one? Because the game's not till 9 and that shows at 11am I think we've.
Ryan Lemond
Seen how our fan base is around this team and around Pope. I think they absolutely would show up for it and feel it. I think Jay Williams would probably get applause. I think Seth Greenberg probably won't get applause.
Matt Jones
Would get booed.
Ryan Lemond
I think he would. There's part of people that will be there that will definitely boo him.
Matt Jones
I think he. I think he would get angry if he get booed. I think unlike some of those people who would play along with the crowd, Seth might try to argue with everyone in the crowd about why he's getting booed.
Drew Franklin
Seth would definitely get booed. It would be Digger Phelps all over again.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Then try to tell the crowd why they shouldn't boo him because he's right about this. And then he would get further booed. We have a hiccup, though. That's Duke, North Carolina. And that game's on.
Matt Jones
Oh, that's Duke, North Carolina. Okay. So, yeah, they'll go to that one. They'll go to flag.
Drew Franklin
And it's at Duke. 6:00 on ESP.
Matt Jones
Never mind. I thought that game. Okay, so we needed Arkansas to be.
Drew Franklin
A little better for it to come.
Matt Jones
Yeah. They're going to Duke, North Carolina then. So, I mean, I'm trying to think, is there a game where we will get game day? We play Tennessee on a Tuesday? I guess that Auburn game. If we were good going into that Auburn game, then maybe. Maybe it would happen.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. And unless Big Blue history tells me I'm wrong. We were looking through this. I don't think game day's been here since before COVID Like, has it been that long? 2019 was the last year we've been at Kansas and game day was there and at another SEC school, but they haven't brought the production to Lexington.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that Auburn game is probably our chance to have it because it's a Saturday. They could be number one or two in the country at the time. Ryan, if we're going to do it, that would probably be the time, and.
Ryan Lemond
I think they would want to do that. You know, Kentucky, such a, you know, hot button topic on the success that Mark Pope's having his first year. I think they'd want to come and capitalize on that.
Matt Jones
All right, so let's talk about just real quick. Arkansas got their first win. Did you watch the game?
Ryan Lemond
Watched almost every second of it.
Matt Jones
I'll tell you this, the Arkansas games are a brutal watch, man. I mean, they're just a brute. They're a brutal watch, but they got hot in the second half. They get a win. Be honest. Drew, were you pulling for him in the last couple minutes?
Drew Franklin
Well, I didn't watch it. That's my thing. I've done this three times now. I watched the whole first half and I said, I cannot keep giving my weekday nights to bad basketball and John Calipari. And I turned it off and watched Severance get text that dudes at the free throw line and catch the last second. But I was in. And it was just so hard to watch. I quit watching and then I missed their comeback.
Matt Jones
Well, they had a dude played.
Drew Franklin
Well, I turned it off the minute Big Z hit the buzzer beater to go into halftime. And I was like, that'll be a good Big Z.
Matt Jones
Made. Made a couple shots. You know, they just. They. Georgia was brutal down the stretch. I mean, just like three. You know, you saw it throwing the ball out of bounds. Just. They. They were. Why couldn't they have done that against us down the stretch? But they got the win. It was nice to see A do and Z happy. You know, they lost Boogie Flan. Maybe that'll make them better. I didn't want them coming in here 07, though, because the idea that they would be 07 and then maybe get a win was something that would. Was worrying me a little bit, if.
Ryan Lemond
You'Re asking me to be honest. I absolutely was pulling for them at the end of the game. I don't know why, but I found myself wanting that moment for those guys. And I guess for Cal, that's to say after the game, I stayed just to see Cal on what he was going to say. You know, he was. Cal was being Cal. You know, we hung around, you know, doing stuff like that.
Matt Jones
Is that your person?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Yeah.
Matt Jones
I don't. I don't know that that really sounds like Cal Perry. Shannon, does that sound like Cal?
Shannon The Dude
No, not really, but I work with it.
Matt Jones
I think he's gonna have to work on that one over time.
Drew Franklin
So I have a Georgia question about the ending. And I had money on Arkansas at minus one, so I'm not mad about it. But on that, do free throw. Not that they would have won at the end. Why did they just watch him get it and lay it in?
Matt Jones
I don't know.
Drew Franklin
It made Arkansas cover, but I have.
Matt Jones
No idea what Georgia was doing at the end of any of that game. Like everything they did at the end of the game, the last five minutes of the game, they look like they had never played basketball before. It was crazy for a team that's pretty good. Just how they just completely collapsed.
Drew Franklin
Down the stretch I saw a clip where I was catching up. Mike White was losing his mind. They dribbled it down and just passed it straight to Arkansas. Almost like they got their jerseys confused.
Matt Jones
It was crazy. I thought Mike White was going to like go insane. So. 859-280-2287. South Laurel is in the house. Nice to see all of you folks. There's a lot of you. Hello to South Laurel. So we will take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. So South Laurel is here. There's a guy here on the basketball team and you said who, who's the favorites in the 13th region? And he said, we are.
Ryan Lemond
That's Colton Rollins. Man, he's been around a long time. He's a good player.
Matt Jones
He's been allowed a long time. He's in high school. It's not like he's 28, but he's.
Ryan Lemond
Been playing varsity, I think since he was a freshman. I mean, he's a good player.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Well, good. Nice to see all these, all these young kids here from the 13th region.
Ryan Lemond
13Th region people. Yeah, we had to ask him how's Middlesbrough doing? Apparently it's a rebuilding year.
Matt Jones
You know what, it's been a rebuilding year for a while. But we're going to turn it back around one day. I'm not worried about it. Speaking of that, you know what, I'll go ahead and do this now. I was going to save it, but I like, I like playing this game. Today is the all eight Classic starts. It is all the first round games Shannon, are today. I don't know anything about any of these teams that would make for. So of course that means we should pick the game.
Ryan Lemond
Of course.
Matt Jones
All right. So I don't know anything about. These are small schools around the state.
Ryan Lemond
And it's in Owensboro.
Matt Jones
This year, and it's in Owensboro, so let's go quick. Lyon County, Martin county, who you got?
Drew Franklin
Oh, Lyon County.
Matt Jones
I mean, it's Travis Perry, but he's not there anymore.
Ryan Lemond
I saw them playing the Lex Catholic tournament. They're still pretty good. I go Lyon County.
Drew Franklin
I've loaded up.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I'll go Lyon County. I think they're. I think they're paying players.
Shannon The Dude
Give me Martin County.
Matt Jones
You take it. All right, that's good. Bishop Brossard against Pineville.
Drew Franklin
I'll go Pineville here. Sorry. Northern Kentucky.
Ryan Lemond
Sawyer Thompson. Russ Thompson's kid plays for Pineville. Pineville.
Matt Jones
Pineville's been keeping the rock out of the town so they could play basket.
Ryan Lemond
There we go.
Shannon The Dude
What's their name?
Matt Jones
Sawyer Thompson.
Shannon The Dude
Oh, Sawyer Thompson. Have you ever seen Sawyer Thompson play basketball? You seen his crossover? Give me Sawyer Thompson.
Matt Jones
Well, that's possible. You said we're all picking Pine. Owensboro Catholic against Beechwood. That sounds like a football game.
Ryan Lemond
That would be big.
Matt Jones
What do you got?
Drew Franklin
Owensboro is going to have the home crowd. The slight edge there.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I think the fact it's a sports center, we got to give the ones broke.
Matt Jones
Yeah, Owensboro Catholic has there. It's a home. That's not fair. It's right across the street. I'll take Owensboro Catholic. What do you got?
Shannon The Dude
Give me the Catholics.
Matt Jones
Louisville Holy Cross against Sayre. Two more private schools going at it. Who you got?
Drew Franklin
I'm a little worried. I saw Sarah, had a team dinner. Mood light, so that's all sitting heavy on their. But I'm still going to take the Spartans.
Matt Jones
All right.
Ryan Lemond
Sarah's really good. They got a couple really good players.
Drew Franklin
Got a great head coach.
Ryan Lemond
They do have a really good head coach, Rob Goodman. So I'm gonna go with Sarah.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I'm gonna go with Sarah. Josh Hopkins got a new part in the second season of shrinking, so that's going to make Sarah play better. I'll take Sarah. What do you. Who you got?
Shannon The Dude
Give me Holy Cross.
Matt Jones
Holy Hazard plays Green County. Down by the Green river where paradise lay. What do you got?
Drew Franklin
Give me a slob burger, fries and a bottle of Ski. I'll go Green County.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I know nothing about either one. So since you said Green County, I'll go Hazard.
Matt Jones
Generally, I would go with Eastern Kentucky and pick Hazard, but Greene county does have that burger place that I like to stop at all the way down there. So I'm going to take Green County. What do you got?
Shannon The Dude
It's going to be a hazard for Green County. I'm going to go with Hazard.
Matt Jones
Clinton county against Whitefield Academy. I didn't even know there was a school called Whitefield Academy. No clue where it is. It could be literally anywhere in the state. I'm going to take Clinton county, Clinton County 20 and oh, by the way.
Drew Franklin
This year I'm going to take Whitefield. Clearly we've all been sleeping on them since we were unaware.
Matt Jones
So you're going to take 8 and 13 Whitefield over 20 and oh, Clinton.
Drew Franklin
Breakout high school of the year in Kentucky with you.
Ryan Lemond
I've never heard of Whitefield Academy ever until you just said it. Clinton county though is good. We did a show down there and they were telling us they were gonna have a good year this year.
Matt Jones
Clinton county has more churches per capita than any than any school or in any county in America.
Ryan Lemond
In America.
Matt Jones
So they're gonna pray their way to a victory tonight. Who you got?
Shannon The Dude
Clinton county is going to send Whitefield Academy back into obscurity. We're never going to talk about them again.
Ryan Lemond
Give me Clinton County.
Matt Jones
Danville Christian Academy. Didn't know Danville had a Christian Academy. They play Elliot County. Rocky Atkins territory.
Drew Franklin
Let's put it like that.
Ryan Lemond
Elliot County Danville Christian Academy is good. They won the 11th region last year.
Matt Jones
Oh, did they?
Ryan Lemond
Not just all a 11th region playing this year.
Matt Jones
I'm going to. I'll have to take them now that you talk me into it. Who you got?
Shannon The Dude
Give me the Danville. Larry Vox.
Matt Jones
Finally, Ballard Memorial that hit a half court shot at the buzzer to get out of the semifinals of the region. They ended up winning the finals. They play Walton Verona. Who you got? Drew?
Drew Franklin
It's just Walton, Verona.
Matt Jones
It's.
Drew Franklin
It's the two for one.
Matt Jones
You get to the exit, you get or Verona mismatch.
Drew Franklin
I'm going. Walton, Verona.
Ryan Lemond
I'm going. The Ballard County Bombers are on a roll after hitting that half court shot.
Matt Jones
Yeah, they hit a half court shot. They. I mean like if he hit a half court shot, you know you've got the karma on your side. So I'm going to take Ballard Memorial, the first region all the way out at the farth of the state. 859280. 2287. Kentucky and Vandy are Saturday. How you feeling about the game on the road in Nashville? Tickets by the way are insane. If you go look at Stubhub, these are the most expensive Kentucky Vandy tickets I've seen in forever.
Ryan Lemond
Heard Mark Pope saying that they're practicing this week with him just standing on the the baseline. You Know, just another thing he's trying to do to kind of get his team ready for the game because it's kind of a quirky place to play for the first time you guys ever played there.
Shannon The Dude
He does realize you can go on the sideline now, right? Like you don't.
Matt Jones
He does.
Shannon The Dude
You don't have to stay on the base.
Matt Jones
But you know what? Don't tell him. He's cooking.
Ryan Lemond
Don't worry.
Matt Jones
Don't worry about it. How do you feel about the game, Drew? They, they just beat Tennessee on their home court by like 10.
Drew Franklin
I actually think that helps us a little bit. They got their big win out of the way. Those emotions. Having just been in Nashville, I think Kentucky fans are already there for Saturday's game. It's going to be a blue crowd. I like Kentucky to win.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean I'm amazed at the, at the ticket situation. Not only is it sold out, like you go try to find tickets right now. The prices are crazy. I have to think that's Kentucky fans in western Kentucky going.
Drew Franklin
Don't you think that and we very, very rarely go to Nashville on a Saturday.
Matt Jones
No, we don't. You're right.
Drew Franklin
And it's at 2:30. So I mean if you like Nashville, that's a Friday night, a Saturday night with a Kentucky basketball game for lunch on Saturday. That's pretty perfect.
Matt Jones
I was thinking about that. We are never at Vandy on a Saturday. It's always midweek 9:00. Like, like it's. The arena's dark. It feels like there are vampires in there this time to get it on a Saturday, it must. I think it's going to be a huge Kentucky contingent. But I'll say this, I was looking at the tickets just like, hey, maybe I'll go down there and watch. Like you got to want it.
Ryan Lemond
Which is no doubt, like you said, it's Kentucky people. They're trying to, you know, going to fill up that place. But yet Vandy, you know, their student body will be right there. They'll pack that. You know, they'll be, It'll be a rowdy crowd both ways.
Matt Jones
I think you, you know Vanity better than anybody. Shannon, do they have any chance of pulling off the upse?
Shannon The Dude
They cannot match Kentucky shot for shot. They can run with them, but they're going to have to create turnovers if Andy has any shot.
Matt Jones
So yeah, we. Vanny's one of those teams. Arkansas will be like this as well. That if we're playing well, they just can't score enough. Right. Like the reason they beat Van. Tennessee is. Tennessee's offense is not great. And Tennessee wasn't hitting shots. If we're hitting shots, they just. There's no way they can score enough now. If we're cold like we were at Georgia or Clemson then Drew, that's how it ends up being a game.
Drew Franklin
And that is a funky place for shooters. We don't know how that'll turn out. And even the setup, you know, Pope's first time down there, you can walk around a little bit now, but anytime playing there the first time that has to be a little bit of a.
Matt Jones
Feels like. It feels like when we've played Vandy in recent years, we've either like at Vandy, we've either blown them out or it comes down to the final position. Like, it's like. Like we've. We've run them off the court a few times in recent years but then we also have had these games that are grinded out down to the last play.
Ryan Lemond
I think that's the magic of that building sometimes, man, it's just, you know, they'll end up pulling off an upset. They've already got Tennessee. I'm sure they're probably thinking they can pull this one off.
Drew Franklin
Jordan Burke's had the big game.
Matt Jones
We're going to take your call. 859-280-2287. We are here to KS Bar Grills, Kentucky Sports Radio. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call TJ. He'll make them pay.
Shannon The Dude
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back, techie Sports radio here at KS Bar and Grill. You know, when I was in high school, if I had gotten to travel to go to a sports radio show at a sports bar and eat lunch there, like that's the best that. Like, what else could you do that would be better on a school day than that rather than sit inside a building you get to go. Like that would be the best.
Drew Franklin
Oh, yeah. I mean we went to a cold.
Matt Jones
Camp and I thought that was great. And that was just walking around a coal camp.
Drew Franklin
I would have absolutely signed up for the KSR club. I might go back to school and try to join.
Matt Jones
You should. Yes.
Ryan Lemond
I still want to know exactly what they do at the KSR club. They just break down each show. They listen to a show and break it down and they talk about.
Matt Jones
Yeah, they talk about how. I shouldn't interrupt Jay Williams so much. They talk about how you are inconsistent, how Shannon hangs up on people too quickly. Like there's a lot of things That I think they probably do.
Ryan Lemond
I will admit this. There is a 100% chance I definitely would have been under the table when you and Jay started going back and forth yesterday.
Matt Jones
Oh, that's why I was good with Shannon. I looked at Shannon through the little monitor. He was just smiling the whole time.
Shannon The Dude
Like he.
Matt Jones
On the monitor. Shannon just had a look on his face like, keep going. Let's get. Just keep going. That's. That's. Yes, that's exactly right. Caleb Wilson is going to make his college basketball decision tonight. This is a top 10 kid, one of the best players in America. He's going to decide between Kentucky and North Carolina tonight after the Lakers Celtics game, which means it'll be announced at like 12:30 at night on Inside the NBA with Barkley, Shaq and Kenny Smith. Now, on the one hand, that's cool for that kid. That'll be a highly watched show with the Lakers and Celtics having just ended. And then you get this high school commitment. So he's going to get a lot of attention. On the other hand, I'm going to be in bed. I don't know if other people are. Do you. It's looking like the Internet buzz seemed to suggest he may go to Carolina. What do you think is going to happen tonight and will you stay up to watch it?
Ryan Lemond
Unfortunately, I don't have a chance staying up that late to watch it. But, you know, there are some people, I think, still here in town to think that they've got a real good shot at him. They're in a good position with him.
Matt Jones
Have you talked to them, like recently?
Ryan Lemond
No.
Matt Jones
Okay. All right.
Drew Franklin
Well, when you have some changes.
Matt Jones
There have been some changes in the last couple days.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I think so.
Matt Jones
Do you want to. Do you want to text your sources before the end of the show?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, let's do that. Let's just see if there's any upcoming.
Matt Jones
News, why don't you. All right, get to it.
Ryan Lemond
My phone.
Matt Jones
Yes. Go for it. Get to it.
Drew Franklin
A few weeks ago, I was very confident, but the tides have seen turn. Any name in recruiting is picking North Carolina. Now, I would have bet money on Kentucky just a few weeks ago, but now I've completely flipped just following the news. I don't know anything myself, but I mean, you've got Joe Tipton from on three, Trilly Donovan. All the big names that cover this are picking unc.
Matt Jones
Here's the thing. This is a good lesson for the future. Whenever a recruit. Whenever we hear people say about a recruit, he's definitely coming to Kentucky. He's definitely coming to Kentucky. Definitely coming. And then he just keeps putting off his announcement. That makes me skeptical. Like, if you're definitely coming, then why aren't you coming? Like, why are we. Why are we going? Okay, the announcement will be in November. Now it's in December. Now it's in January. Like, when that happens, that means to me, the definitely is not so definitely. So I think he goes to North Carolina. It's a bummer. I wish. I wish Pope had gotten him. Assuming we don't get him. But I also think if, you know, nowadays with the portal, you missing on somebody is not the end of the world. I mean, you could even argue this year. This year, there's been a rebirth. Drew, a freshman, right? Like, Cooper Flag's been really good. The kid at Illinois is really good. The two kids at Rutgers are good. Like, freshmen have kind of reemerged. But last year in the final four, of the 20 starters, only one of them was a freshman. Like, there is a sense in which getting those freshmen is not quite what it was a while back.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, that's why not to, you know, try to change the narrative here. I really wanted Caleb Wilson. I think it would have been a good get for Pope to get someone outside of Kentucky that's a top 10 player. So I'm bummed that it's looking like it's gonna be Carolina, but at the same time, it is different, and we're still training our brains on so many things that are different from how it was for so long. And in this scenario, he was going to command a lot of money. They were willing to pay it, and that's good. We wanted him. But I now also trust Pope to take that money that they were going to spend and go to the portal and find maybe more than one piece that is also going to be very good. So it is a loss, and it stinks. But it's not like, crap. That was our one target. It's like, okay, well, let's go find something a little older and fill that hole.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I kind of agree with you about that. Who's up first? Shannon.
Shannon The Dude
Dan.
Matt Jones
Dan. Go ahead, Dan.
E
Sorry. I was working. Matt. Long time. First time.
Matt Jones
Who are. What's up?
E
Not much, man. I had two quick points. I don't want to take as long in the first one, because I want to talk to you more on the second one, but the first and the officiating at Georgia just seems like they're not quite as good on the road, are they? They got a lot of good home cooking going on there at home. And I understand, look, in the SEC.
Matt Jones
This year, you're going to get teams that can beat anybody at home and lose to anybod on the road. We might be one of those teams. Like, I think that's just kind of how the SEC is this year. I mean, South Carolina should have beat Florida the other night. They lost it at the last second. So I mean, it, it happens.
E
I'm just saying, though, that it's not so much then the number of fouls because I know they only called like five more fouls on in. And look, if we shot better, if we made more free throws, we won. So I'm not blaming the rest. But the timing of the fouls, the fact that they were in the bonus a lot earlier in each half than us, the, the timing of the fouls affects the flow.
Matt Jones
Remember, Georgia and Arkansas play physically, they're going to go to the line more than we do. They. They. That's just how it's going to be unless we do the things Pope is talking about doing. What's your second thing?
E
Yeah, we got to get more aggressive taking it to the hole and trying to get those fouls. On my second point, and I just wanted to say I, I'm a Trump supporter. I always listen to your show. I think people should be able to have discussions civilly and just agree to disagree. And there's nothing wrong with that. Right. Like you and Jay Williams. So the only issue I have with.
Matt Jones
What you said about the pardons, we're not talking about. Look, I gave my opinion on that, but I hope you understand if I let you go back on it, then the whole show becomes people arguing back and forth. I. So it's not that I don't want to hear your position, but if get your position on pardons and somebody's going to counter you. That's why I don't open the pardon, open the political stuff up for discussion.
E
I don't have a position on pardons. All I was going to say is that you had mentioned that he pardoned somebody that had hit a policeman.
Matt Jones
I appreciate. Sir, I just telling you, I don't want to do that. I appreciate the call. I'm not trying to be rude to you. It's not that I don't think you have a valid opinion, but I don't. When I. It's probably not fair. But, you know, if you want to hear people take the opposite view than me on politics, there's a show that comes on right after this and you'll get three straight hours of it, and they'll give the opposite position and you can get everything you want there.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, we got lots of more fun. Vandy takes ahead. We have talked about the pile of coats that Ryan always gets so excited about. When we go to Nashville. We can't let.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Tell people what your pile of coats thing is. You always bring that up when we go to Nashville.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I think they've changed, but the people that used to sit in the end zone at Memorial Coliseum, there's no coat rack. There's no place to, you know, really sit on your coat. So they would pile them. They would stack them in a pile right behind the basketball goal in the end zone, and it would be like 3ft, 4ft high as pile of coats.
Matt Jones
You always say you don't think know if they do it anymore, but I've watched 10 games since the last time you've modded this, and I've never seen any coats. Is this like something from the 60s that you're still continuing to bring up?
Ryan Lemond
I know they were doing it when I was still at channel 18 because we. We shot some video of it.
Shannon The Dude
I couldn't believe.
Ryan Lemond
I couldn't believe.
Shannon The Dude
A lot of games there.
Ryan Lemond
I've never seen it.
Matt Jones
You know, I don't. I think the pile of coats is something that in your. In your imagination, you have created out of nowhere. Why would everyone just put a pile of coats on the floor? Because when the game is over, that would be a madhouse.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. You got to go find your coat. Yeah. Maybe it was part of the fun part of the game.
Matt Jones
Part of the fun is throwing your coat in a pile with a hundred of other people's coats.
Ryan Lemond
You know, watching Vanderbilt basketball, a lot of time is pretty tough and struggling. You struggle to watch it. So now you got a chance to have some fun. Go find your coat at the end of the game. Game.
Matt Jones
I'm throwing the challenge flag on that. I just. I don't believe that's true. I don't believe that's true. Who's next?
Shannon The Dude
Let's go to Kentucky Surveyor.
Matt Jones
Kentucky Surveyor, how are you?
E
Hey, guys. Good.
Drew Franklin
How are y'all doing?
Matt Jones
Good. What's up?
E
Not much. I just had a couple quick comments. So I like the back and forth with Jay Williams yesterday, and I really like Jay Williams, but he was absolutely backpedaling from the comments that he made and just didn't want to own up to it, I don't think. And then the other thing is, I've always hated Coach K and now Knowing that just because Jay was hard on him and his handling of what's his name, dude, I can't stand that.
Matt Jones
Race it out. Yeah. So I appreciate the call. That was a piece of news yesterday, Drew. I don't think it's ever been told. Jay Williams saying that he got kicked out of Duke practices for criticizing the Grayson Allen thing. I don't know that that's ever been news. You guys need to write that story up on KSR so maybe we could get some traction on it, because I don't know that I've ever heard that before.
Drew Franklin
He kind of just tucked that one in there. I mean, we were obviously listening. Interview for other reasons. But you think about that. That's not just a former player. That's. That's a Duke legend there. That is the biggest mouthpiece for Duke on TV outside of Jay Villas. And he wasn't allowed to go to practice.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's probably one of co. Mike Krzyzewski's top three players he's ever had. I mean, it's probably like Leitner. I mean, I would put him second to Leitner. I mean, you're. If you look at Coach Case, best players, it's probably Leitner, Danny Ferry, Bobby Hurley, Grant Hill, Redick, him, and Zion Brand. I mean, there's not an Elton Brand. But, like, I would. I might put. I might put Jason Williams second.
Ryan Lemond
He said yesterday his jersey hangs in that arena, and yet he was forbidden to come to practice. That was kind of shocking news when he said that yesterday. I thought. The other thing was he's definitely got something with Rashad Carruth. He didn't want to talk about Rashad Carruth yesterday.
Matt Jones
That's true. He didn't. Which is weird. Like, why would he know? I don't know. Hey, Ryan, the Richmond Road Vet Clinic wants to call on all Big Blue Nation fans. Don't forget about the furry members of your wildcat family. Richmond Road Vet Clinic and Tate's Creek Animal Hospital are proud to bring you BBN Pets, the ultimate fan club for your pet. Ryan Lemond

Matt Jones
So, like, you can get, like, I don't know, a frog hat or something.
Ryan Lemond
Well, probably a Kentucky wildcat hat, you know.
Matt Jones
No, no, no. A hat for your frog, a frog, a Kentucky hat for your frog or for your dog or your cat or your goat. All those things like a snake. Get some pants. A snake hat, a snake hat. It's all there. @BBN Pets.com the Richmond Row vet clinic helps keep your pampered, celebrated, and decked out in big blue pride. Just check out bbnpets.com there have to be a lot of people here listening. Do you have a pet? Don't you think it'd be cute to put, like, a little beanie on it that had. Think about that. And a fake mustache?
Drew Franklin
These are all on the website.
Matt Jones
Well, I don't know if the mustache is on it, but you could get the, like. Think about how cute that would be. So, I mean, it wouldn't be cute to me because I don't have any pets. But for people who have pets, I.
Ryan Lemond
Think they would like sweaters, maybe a little.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, a little scarf.
Ryan Lemond
Bedazzled sweater from doll hairs.
Drew Franklin
Bow tie, maybe little boots for your dog.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So it doesn't track in the mud when they come to clean your plumbing. You. To clean your plumbing.
Drew Franklin
Your dog comes in to clean your plumbing.
Matt Jones
VBNPets.com we'll take a break and be right back. This is ksr. Welcome back. It is Kentucky sports radio here at KS Bar. I was just talking to these kids here. I was like, how long do you all think you could go without being on your phone? And one of them looked at me with pride, Brian. And goes, I think I could do two hours.
Ryan Lemond
Wow, two hours.
Matt Jones
I mean, that's not that long. But like, he was like, two hours. And then the. The teachers like, nope, no, you can't. It's amazing how. How much, like, if you look at the great span of human history, we humans have acted the same way for, like, thousands of years. And then starting 15 years ago, now we spend half of our time looking at a screen.
Ryan Lemond
Yep.
Matt Jones
And like, it was never like that the rest of the time. And I'm guilty as anybody. Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying, but I. It's amazing how that's changed.
Ryan Lemond
I don't know what the rules are at South Laurel, but I know a lot of schools now are giving it up to the teachers that they can, like, implement. Put your phones away as soon as you walk in.
Matt Jones
The Kentucky legislature has a bill this session to ban the use of cell phones in class. Ban them. It's. Republicans are for it, but on this one, I'll make it bipartisan. Ban it like I do it in my class at Georgetown. No, you can't be on your phone. They don't like it. But, like, you can't have their attention. Otherwise, if they have a phone, you know, they're not paying attention. Totally that.
Drew Franklin
And I genuinely don't know this. Ryan, you can answer. How do kids just not look up everything on their phone? When I was in high school, I had to type the entire periodic calendar, periodic table into a TI83 calculator. It took like six nights to get it all in there so I could.
Matt Jones
Cheat on my final exam. I make them turn their phones off. No Internet. They can bring in anything they want from out. They can bring in their notes, they can bring in their books, they can bring in whatever, but they have no electronic thing. And to me, that's the only way you can do it. Because if you give them access to the Internet, forget it. Like they're going to have AI. It's going to be, you know, it's going to be whatever.
Ryan Lemond
I know there was. There was one class that the teachers was okay with them looking it up on their phone because even by doing that they're learning it.
Matt Jones
No, I agree with that. But you can't do it on a test. Then they're just regurgitating what they all. I have something that a story that I think is going to be a big story in the next 24 hours, but that I don't think people know yet. And I will give it here.
Ryan Lemond
Okay, do it.
Matt Jones
Shannon, I feel like this is going to involve you a lot. Did you see what happened last night with Bill Burr and Billy Corgan?
Shannon The Dude
No.
Matt Jones
Okay. Bill Burr is a comedian. Billy. Billy Corgan is the lead singer of the Smashing Pumpkins. All right. Howie Mandel. I just keep throwing names. Howie Mandel has a podcast. He decides to have those two guys on. Now here's something I didn't know. Bill Burr the comedian and Billy Corgan the singer have the same father.
Ryan Lemond
What?
Matt Jones
They have the same father with two different mothers. I think the father was not involved in either of the kids life. And apparently Bill Burr and Billy Corgan are not that far off in age. And the dad named both kids Bill. Weird. But here's the crazy part. Bill Burr and Billy Corgan had never talked to each other about it. They were aware, but had never talked to each other about it. And for Bill Burr at least, it was kind of a sore subject. He didn't really. He didn't like his dad and he didn't really want to talk about this kid, etc. Howie Mandel makes the decision to invite them both on to reunite, but doesn't tell Bill Burr. So Bill Burr is on the show as a guest and he brings Billy Corgan out. He had told Billy Corgan that Bill Burr was cool with it. He wasn't. And he sits down and says, here you go. And the video is as cringe a worthy thing as you'll ever see. Bill Barr is clearly mad. Like, not kind of mad, really mad. He even says, can we cut this out of the podcast? And then they're sitting there and the tension is so awkward. He's not mad at Billy Corgan, but he also really doesn't want to talk to him because he doesn't want to think about his dad. Billy Corgan thought Bill Burr was going to be cool with it and now realizes it's not. And the two of them are sitting there. It's awful to watch. It's like 10 minutes. I'm telling you. Look it up later. It's the worst thing I've ever seen. And then at the end, they almost kind of unify in thinking how he is a jerk.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
For having done this. They're both kind of like, I can't believe you did this to us.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Howie Mandel's in fault here. He ambushed. Ambushed him.
Matt Jones
But is that not wild? Like, this has got to be a huge story today because once people see the video, these are two very famous people. People. Once people see the video, it's awful. And the dad named them both Bill. The.
Shannon The Dude
Billy Corgan wasn't upset about it as Bill Burr was.
Matt Jones
Well, Billy Corgan had been told that Bill Burr wanted to unify. Like, wanted to, like, unite.
Shannon The Dude
Wow.
Matt Jones
And then Bill Burr looked at Billy Corgan and said, hey, in interviews, you said you were my stepbrother. I wish you hadn't done that. You didn't ask me if that was okay. So it was like that stuff that.
Ryan Lemond
Doesn'T need to be talked about on the public airwaves.
Matt Jones
I mean, it is as tense a thing as you will ever see. I felt really sorry for Bill Burr.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I also felt sorry for Billy Corbin. Howie Mandel, who I thought always seemed like everybody thought he was, like, a nice guy. Kind of comes off right.
Drew Franklin
Drew.
Matt Jones
As a huge jerk in the whole thing.
Drew Franklin
Heck, yeah. I get how he having this idea. And it would be good. You cannot surprise someone.
Matt Jones
You have to ask. You can't. You can't surprise them.
Drew Franklin
Bill Burr's got to be in his 50s, and that's probably something that, you know, he's dealt with his whole life. Something in the back of his head. And you're just gonna throw a microphone and say, let's talk about this for the first.
Matt Jones
So then Howie Mandel looks at Bill Burr and goes, so what do you think about him? Mean Billy Corgan? He was like, well, I wish you hadn't said that we were brothers without asking me. And I, I mean, I get your music's good, I guess. And that was their beautiful moment of reconciliation.
Shannon The Dude
So was the dad a no name? I mean, what kind of.
Matt Jones
That was just a random guy response to super. This random guy just had two kids and then they both end up being huge superstars in completely different fields. Wow.
Shannon The Dude
That is.
Matt Jones
Isn't that crazy?
Shannon The Dude
Incredible.
Matt Jones
I'm telling you, when you watch this video, it is hard to watch. Like, it is really hard to watch. We'll take a break and be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio.
