Nmlsconsumeraccess.Org welcome to hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back. It is hour number two here Kentucky Sports Radio at the KS Bar and Grill. Look at that guy just lounging back. I like it. 859-280-2287 Text Machine 772-77-452541 Person writes Matt, I watched that clip during the break. That's the most awkward thing I've ever seen. It's pretty awkward.
Ryan Lemond
I told you during the break. I don't know if I want to see it. If it's that cringe worthy man. That's personal stuff, family stuff. I don't want to.
Matt Jones
I guess somebody writes me that Billy Corgan did have a relationship with his dad but Bird did not. Well that would just make it even more awkward.
Ryan Lemond
That adds the animosity that would add.
Shannon The Dude
To the yeah and burrs like a fiery dude I mean, he's type. You've seen him. It's part of a bit, but he'll yell at anybody. I'm surprised that didn't get a little more heated. Shows that how emotionally hurt he was.
Matt Jones
He was not happy.
Ryan Lemond
Shame on Howie Mandel, though, for doing that. Kind of ambushing him like that.
Matt Jones
Yeah, a couple things here. First of all, happy 50th birthday. Just say no deal. No deal.
Shannon The Dude
They need to fist bump.
Matt Jones
I saw they did. They have a deal. No Deal Island.
Shannon The Dude
I watched it yesterday.
Matt Jones
How could you even do that?
Shannon The Dude
It's terrible. I watch about anything. I'll recognize. Recommend about anything. Do not give your life to dealer. No Deal Island.
Matt Jones
That's really strange. Don Franklin, by the way. So first of all, happy 50th birthday to Jason Lowe. You know, since they brought them here, I do a 50th birthday shout out. So happy birthday to you in Illinois. We are at Don Franklin on Richmond Road tomorrow. What's the address?
Ryan Lemond
It's the Hyundai. Hyundai.
Matt Jones
Hyundai.
Ryan Lemond
Hyundai.
Matt Jones
Don Franklin. Hyundai. Tomorrow on 344-0344.
Shannon The Dude
40 Richmond Road.
Matt Jones
3440 Richmond. And I'll be giving away some UK tickets tomorrow at the show as well. So not for the Arkansas game, for a Future game, but 3440 Richmond Road. So we will see you. See you tomorrow. Also, Philip, little moment to think about one of the true Kentucky high school sports legends, Philip Haywood. He was the coach at Belfry. He was in a car accident on Saturday and Saturday and he passed away yesterday. He had coached at Belfry for 41 years, created an absolute football powerhouse deep in the mountains. As I used to say, if you want to go to Belfry, go to Pikeville, take a left and then just keep going and it's going to be a while and then you'll get there. And then you would get to this stadium on a hill, which was this really cool site. 41 years, multiple state championships passed away. And I know that community will be devastated. So God bless his family, prayers to all of them. And Philip Heywood, you know, simply put.
Ryan Lemond
He was the Adolph RUP of Kentucky high school football. All time winning his coach, like almost 500 wins, eight state titles, and all the lives that he touched out there in that Belfry community. I mean it.
Matt Jones
He was.
Ryan Lemond
He was a titan, he was a leader, he was a father figure to a lot of guys. And there's a huge loss for that community.
Matt Jones
He invited us up when we, when we were there during COVID when we were going to the high schools and he was a really great, nice man. But just a little kind of when you get the stereotypical view of what a high school football coach is to a local community. Mr. Haywood was like that and just really, really sad to hear the news.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I mean Ryan said titan, we throw a legend around way too much but he's an absolute legend in this state and all the accolades you've been naming off plus several many more and things stories around that community will never hear just such a huge impact.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So our prayers to all of those folks tonight. By the way, if you're in the area, get your team together. My trivia I'm spending a lot of the day kind of writing the questions. I already have some good ones. But our January trivia is ready to go. So bring your team out here. If you haven't yet. You might start about 1:00, call and make a reservation so you can get your slot. But doing some trivia tonight. You said you can't go because you you have a hot date.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I have a birthday dinner, a pre planned birthday dinner tonight with a young man used to live with me. Live with me for about a year.
Matt Jones
So you're not taking your girlfriend?
Ryan Lemond
I'm taking Josiah.
Matt Jones
Okay. All right. Well I was just making just us.
Ryan Lemond
Boys just it's us boys dinner.
Matt Jones
Okay, well good. Well but I will see everybody here this evening. Hopefully KS Bar. But after 1:00 call and make a reservation if you need it. We mentioned yesterday at one point in the show Liam Cohen decided not to take the Jacksonville Jaguars job. He's going to stay as the offensive coordinator for Tampa Bay. When I heard that Drew that says to me he must have some kind of agreement with Tampa Bay that after the coach that's there now retires, he'll be the coach. Otherwise you wouldn't do that.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, it looked like he was heading to Jacksonville. You get that news? There's got to be some promise that just hasn't gone public yet. I know the AFC south is really bad at football. Maybe you want to run away from that. But it sounds like he's about to get a promotion.
Matt Jones
I really. Shannon did something stupid yesterday when it comes to this and it's not my fault, but it's kind of my fault. So Tony Khan is one of the owners of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Drew Franklin
Oh yeah.
Matt Jones
Well, his dad owns it and he's the son and then he also owns AEW Wrestling. So. You know, I said this yesterday, but it was much more embarrassing than I'm letting on. I saw this thing yesterday morning that said, you know, Liam Cohen will be the next coach of Jacksonville. So I'm like, oh, here's a chance for me to kind of say hey to Tony. You know, obviously try to keep a good relationship with AEW because of ovw. Right? Like, they got all the money in the world, and we'd like to pay our bills, and so, like, it would be nice to have a. Continue to have a relationship with him. So I send him a text and go, hey, man, you got a great one in L. Liam Cohen. It's going to be awesome. And I send it, not thinking anything about it, and then it comes out that Jacksonville wanted him and Cohen turned him down.
Drew Franklin
Ouch.
Matt Jones
Now, think about when you sent him. You got a great one, and then they, like, didn't get him.
Drew Franklin
There goes our.
Ryan Lemond
Send it.
Drew Franklin
There goes our w. Deal.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So now do I.
Shannon The Dude
It's.
Matt Jones
Do you just leave that out, Shannon, or do you write back and go, oops, yeah, or, you didn't want him. You didn't want him anyway. He stinks.
Drew Franklin
You should type back, just kidding.
Matt Jones
Like, you know, I don't think you can say just kidding at this point. What do you say, Drew, when you just completely blew it like that?
Shannon The Dude
I would. Urgency would play here. But you said you got a great one. I would then follow up and put almost with a little asterisk. Like, I typed that. I didn't mean. I meant to work the word almost in there.
Matt Jones
I feel like that's kind of throw it in his face. I don't. I don't know what to do.
Shannon The Dude
You've got a great one in Josh Heinz Allen is what I meant to say.
Matt Jones
We've talked and I've talked about Josh Allen before. Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
You're just in a bad spot. I think.
Matt Jones
I think I just messed up. I jumped the gun and thought he was gonna get him, and now I look stupid.
Ryan Lemond
You could, you know, play. Try to still play the good guy. Say Liam's loss and send that to him. It's not his loss.
Matt Jones
Oh, do you think that works?
Ryan Lemond
Maybe.
Matt Jones
Shannon, what do you think? Putting in Liam's loss.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, like he needed you way more than you needed him.
Shannon The Dude
He.
Matt Jones
Maybe that's what works. But I. I will say it was kind of a little embarrassing.
Ryan Lemond
No response from him yet?
Matt Jones
No response yet. Who's up next?
Drew Franklin
I wouldn't respond to that either. Joe.
Matt Jones
Joe. Go ahead, Joe.
Caller
Hey, Matt. A propose at the KSR Club is there. I have a KSR through the Year's question and comment. Question first. Does that work? Listening to that yesterday I had a, I had a crazy case of deja vu and I, I'm honestly asking, did two, three, four, five years ago, you have a sort of contentious interview with J. Will where he repeatedly called you mj or did I dream that? Has that happened before on ksr?
Matt Jones
Even normal conversations with, with Jay? I, I've done, I did a podcast with Jay during COVID and even normal conversations, he and I get a little contentious just because that's who I am and that's who he is. As far as the MJ thing, yeah, he's called me MJ forever. And I, I don't really know why because no one else calls me that.
Caller
That was driving me nuts. I really couldn't. I really wasn't sure if I was dreaming or not. The comment.
Shannon The Dude
Actually, I'll look this up. When Ryan said he didn't want to talk about Rashad Carruth, it triggered a memory. I searched. I wrote a story in 2015 that says Jay Williams was a guest on KSR where he talks about Kentucky A and M and Rashad Carruth.
Matt Jones
Say what it said?
Shannon The Dude
No, it's just a link. But 2015, Jay was on the show. All these memories are coming together.
Matt Jones
So, like when you, when we do this, as long as we have, things get lost. I have some vague memory that maybe Jay Williams has like something really negative about Rashad Carruth, but I don't remember any specifics or what it would have been. So, you know, I'm not sure, but go ahead. What was your second thing?
Caller
The comment I have is last week you were talking about the spurs going to that lower tier club in the fa, and Ryan asked. I feel like we've talked about this before. This sounds familiar. And you mentioned the emergency goalies in hockey. And I just wanted to remind you, one of my favorite conversations five, ten years ago was when Arsenal went to play some small tier that had a backup goalie that was £350, 45 years old, called the Roly Polygoalie.
Matt Jones
Yes, that's true.
Caller
You remember that.
Matt Jones
That's a good. Well, I didn't remember the teams, but I do remember the Rolly Polygoal. I don't know if he was £350, but he was a large guy. Yeah, yeah.
Caller
And then there, there was drama after that that never really made American news. Because he ate one of those English pies on the bench during the game.
Matt Jones
Yes, he did.
Caller
Some of the betting sites, some of the betting sites Had a prop up and he got suspended and fined because he was working with his buddies to say, I'm gonna eat a pie.
Matt Jones
Yeah, he did it. Jared Lorenz in there. Well, I appreciate the call. Yes, that, that. You know, we always laugh about Jerry Lorenzen story about looking up the Gatorade color and calling it in. But in today's world, that would have probably gotten him in trouble because you wouldn't. You wouldn't have been allowed to do that.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, there's no doubt he would have gotten in trouble, you know, notifying his friends. Hey, it's blue Gatorade. Bet blue.
Shannon The Dude
He told that one on the KSR football podcast. A little, little after the fact, but it's still a funny admission.
Matt Jones
Speaking of football, on SEC radio yesterday, one of the announcers, I think Aaron Murray says he thinks Kentucky will be the most improved team in the SEC next year, significantly better than they are this year. Do you believe that's true, Drew?
Shannon The Dude
I will say they will be significantly better than this year because this year is that bad. I still don't have a lot of optimism that that will lead to enough wins to make everyone happy. But if we're being fair to Stoops and honestly, Eric Wolford, they had a good off season. I mean, Wolford did a good job getting that line together. We won't know what it really is until they're on the field in September. But to this point, if you got to pat them back a little bit, that doesn't change my hope for the year. But they did well in the portal.
Ryan Lemond
I think they'll be better. But like Drew said, it may not translate into wins just because the way the schedule is laid out next year. So. But I do think they'll be a better football team.
Matt Jones
Yes, I think they're going to be a lot better. Now, whether or not you could be a lot better, win five games, I mean, just give me an example. Think about how hard our schedule was. This year we played five ranked teams. Next year we play seven.
Ryan Lemond
It's going to be this way almost.
Matt Jones
Every year now, you know, so we thought your schedule was insanely hard and now you get two more ranked teams next year.
Shannon The Dude
You don't want to make excuses for the football program right now because a lot of the stuff is on them and how they've handled it. But. But if you line up every SC team schedule and put them in front of you next season, no matter who you are, just being objective, you would go, holy cow, Kentucky got hosed on this schedule next year. It's not like any other schedule in the conference.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it's. It's the hardest one now. Part of it is because we're not the best, so like we're seeing is the early one. Did you see the hockey fight last night?
Ryan Lemond
I just, literally just showed it. I just saw it for the first time.
Matt Jones
Did you like it? First of all, if you didn't see these two teams are playing each other, I think it's like Toronto and Columbus. The game is like one minute into it. So these dudes clearly came on the ice going, I want to fight that guy.
Ryan Lemond
Yep.
Matt Jones
Because you can't in a minute get to the point that you're ready to fight. And not only they fight, they just pound on each other. Because in the NHL, they'll let them fight until they fall down. Right. So, Shannon, it looked like to me they had a mutual agreement. They would hold each other up.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Just so they could pummel each.
Drew Franklin
I'm watching it right now.
Matt Jones
The guys and they're holding. Each of them is holding the other one by the left hand and the right hand is just pummeling them. And somehow they don't fall down and they spin around in a little dance and just beat each other up for like a ton of minutes in a row.
Shannon The Dude
It gets to a point where it's just bang, bang. They're just trading one after another. It's pretty fun to watch.
Ryan Lemond
I've always been amazed how they're able to do that. To hold on to your opponent's jersey, to keep you from falling down and fight on skates all at the same time.
Shannon The Dude
This Reeves guy that was in it, I don't watch hockey, but anytime I see a fight, he seems he's in it. He gets in the middle there and he's the enforcer.
Matt Jones
I don't know, when you get in a fight a minute in, that means I wanted to fight.
Ryan Lemond
Ain't waiting around.
Matt Jones
They're skating without a skate. I don't know if they have a personal thing, if they went on Howie Mandel's podcast or something like, I don't know what it was, but it was clear they wanted to get into it. We will take a break. Be right back. 859-280-2287. Couple open lines is KSR. Welcome back. Techie Sports Radio. 859280. 2287, the South Laurel KSR Club in the house. South Laurel favorites apparently in the 13th region. We'll see. We'll see what you're able to do. I don't know. I want, I want to see it play out first. But it's nice having them here.
Ryan Lemond
If this is true, they're the favorite. You know, north Laurel with Reed shepherd net group had that great run. Now in the same county, South Laurel stepping up, being the kings of the 13th region.
Matt Jones
That's right. When I was in school, you had what, Corbin, Clay County, Harlan and now Laurel County. You know, they've taken all the, you know, they've taken the favorites role in that region.
Shannon The Dude
Well, I'm going to believe them. I don't see north Laurel or any other high school in this bar. Listen to KSR right now.
Matt Jones
Last year Harlan county went to the championship. What am I talking about?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And all them. Right.
Shannon The Dude
And our boy with the, the long hair.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, he's back.
Matt Jones
He's back. He's playing even after he had a firework accident and I think lost at least maybe one finger. And he's back playing. You got to give that kid a.
Ryan Lemond
Lot of credit playing in the all A right now with it because he's Pineville. It's Pine. And, well, he's, he's playing. He's in the 2A. I'm sorry. He's in the 2A. Harlan County's in the 2A.
Matt Jones
Remember we just did the predictions for the day.
Shannon The Dude
What did you say? A Cottrell doesn't, you know when he was missing a finger? We don't stay out long or I'll be back. Not taking much time.
Matt Jones
He said what, a Cottrell as his.
Shannon The Dude
Last name, I guess.
Ryan Lemond
Reggie Cottrell.
Shannon The Dude
He was missing a finger. They're like, oh, he'll be back. We're not missing much time with a little finger. Whatever it was.
Matt Jones
It's true. We don't miss a lot of time with a little finger. Ichiro. All right. I don't know when the last time I thought about Ichiro was. But he was up for the hall of Fame and Ichiro was not unanimous for the hall of Fame. He was one vote. One person didn't give him their vote, which has become a tradition over the years. Like one person didn't vote for like, you know, Derek Jeter and all these people. There's always one person who refuses to vote for them because they don't want them, everyone to be unanimous. Right. So I guess Hank Aaron many years ago didn't get in unanimously. And there's been this idea that since then, well, if Hank Aaron didn't get in unanimously, then no one can ever get in unanimously now. Mario Rivera actually is the only person who has gotten in unanimously in the last 25 years. Do you think it's ridiculous, Ryan, that these stupid hall of Fame people take themselves so seriously that they can't make anyone unanimous?
Ryan Lemond
You know, I'm a baseball guy and I'm a baseball fan through and through, but the self righteousness of some of these sports writers that vote for this is so ridiculous. You're not going to vote for Ichiro for the hall of Fame. He's one of the greatest players we've had in our lifetime. It's ridiculous that they do this and.
Matt Jones
They, well, and they know that like it's not like they don't think he should be in. They just don't think anyone should be unanimous, which is stupid.
Shannon The Dude
You're on the panel to vote for who you think should be in the hall of Fame. Don't get together, conspire for how many votes. Here's your piece of paper. Write down, are they in the hall of Fame or not? And if you don't think Ichiro should be in the hall of Fame, you shouldn't have a vote that should have been a unanimous. I didn't know about Jeter not being unanimous. I get what you're saying, but you're not there to control.
Matt Jones
But they did do it for Mariano Rivera. So it's like clearly somebody thought, I'm going to be the guy that doesn't do it for each. And of course it's anonymous, so you can't ever hear who it was.
Shannon The Dude
That person's going to die off. And in 20 years the voters will be back to unanimous and history will show. We had all these greats that didn't get a vote. All the people that, you know, orchestrated that.
Matt Jones
Shannon, you're a baseball guy.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. I think the guy should have to say he's the one that didn't vote for him. Why don't they let the fans vote anyway? I think the fans should have just as much to say as some guy in the media.
Matt Jones
Like, yeah, you don't want to let the fans vote. I mean, the fans. Because the fans will end up making like, just some dude. Like, somebody will go viral on the Internet and they'll make Jake Paul in the hall of Fame. Like, you can't let the fans.
Drew Franklin
Hall of fame of YouTubers maybe.
Matt Jones
But I mean, yeah, no, you can't let the fans.
Drew Franklin
Just some random guys in the media should get to decide who's in the hall of Fame.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but it can't be the fans we like. What was it? They. They wanted to name a ship or something in. In Britain, and they were like, which of these famous people should we name it after? And they ended up naming it the. The general public voted Boaty McBoat face or whatever great name.
Drew Franklin
That sounds like a name you would come up with.
Matt Jones
Can't. You can't leave it. You can't leave it to the fans. Like, fans, they just want to make it a joke. Right.
Shannon The Dude
They don't want too much beverage.
Ryan Lemond
But why, Shannon? Why do they have to remain anonymous? Why don't we.
Matt Jones
We.
Ryan Lemond
When they shouldn't remain Anonymous in the AP25 poll, we know the how they vote. Why do they have to be anonymous for the hall of Fame?
Matt Jones
Yeah, shouldn't remain anonymous. Who's next?
Drew Franklin
Adam.
Matt Jones
Adam. Go ahead, Adam.
Caller
Hey, guys. Hope you'll let me rant for a little bit. I'm so sick of the. The national media acting like, you know, Kentucky fans are just out of their minds for comparing Pope and Caliperi. Like, it's human nature to compare what was and what is.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Caller
And you know, Cal Perry was one of the most polarizing coaches at the greatest program in college basketball for over a decade. Like, I don't know what you would expect, you know, how many times did you hear Nick Saban's name brought up during an Alabama football game this past year? They don't talk about that.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, if the idea that we're gonna not talk about Cal is just absolutely ludicrous. It's just absolutely ludicrous that people expect us focus on your team like that is the most. Because everyone knows if it was the opposite. Do you think Seth Greenberg, if we were 05 in conference, wouldn't have said, you know, you think the fans regret running off Caliper now? Of course he would have. Of course he would have. The focus on your Team is the dumbest narrative of all. You know, it's human like that. And I appreciate the call. Like the car says, it's human nature, Drew, to say what you could have had versus what you have.
Shannon The Dude
Definitely. There's examples all over the Sabins. A good one. I was listening to Tom Leach this morning. They brought up Oklahoma. Still talks about Lincoln, Raleigh and that's been four years and no one's telling them to shut up. It's very natural. When you have a big coach that was well liked and had success, they move. You're going to keep tabs on them. To compare, did I make the right decision? Are we in a good spot or they are a better spot? That's human nature and I think it's insane to ask people not to do that.
Ryan Lemond
It's a good point. I hadn't thought of what if Coach K had gone to NC State. You don't think Jay Will would have been talking about that, keeping an eye on that?
Matt Jones
Of course they would have. And he also went in conference.
Shannon The Dude
He's on the schedule.
Matt Jones
He went in conference. Like he didn't just go to some random school. He went to a team we play. He is going to be walking into this arena in nine days. Wow.
Ryan Lemond
Sneaking up on us.
Matt Jones
Nine days. He's going to walk in there.
Ryan Lemond
Can't lose that game.
Matt Jones
Is he getting booed?
Ryan Lemond
Yes. Yep.
Matt Jones
So I actually thought as we got closer it'd be more likely he wouldn't get booed. But I feel like he's getting booed.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I was leaning not getting booed before the season started. I thought there'd be a few, but I thought Ruppuran would be pretty respectful as the season's gone on. He's getting booed. It's happening.
Matt Jones
Yeah, he's getting booed. Now, if he had been 0 and 7, would that have been a little sympathy? We just can't. Let me say this. You're going to hear this a lot for me next week. We cannot lose.
Ryan Lemond
Can't lose it.
Matt Jones
We cannot lose that game. On the one hand, they're not good. Like you've got to win those games at home. But also we cannot lose that game.
Shannon The Dude
We just gotta score 60 points.
Matt Jones
We cannot lose that game.
Shannon The Dude
First 61.
Matt Jones
Just. No, can't. We'll be right back. T.J. smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. he'll make him pay.
Drew Franklin
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage, here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-228, 7. Got folks here from all over eastern Kentucky. And then, of course, got our South Laurel people. I guess they're eastern Kentucky, too. Kind of barely hanging on eastern Kentucky, but I still would call it eastern Kentucky.
Ryan Lemond
It's kind of. We said it before, kind of the gateway to the mount, to the mountains is London.
Matt Jones
What do you think's the best restaurant in. In London? What?
Shannon The Dude
Local honey.
Matt Jones
Local honey. I don't think I've ever eaten there.
Ryan Lemond
Is Weaver's hot dog still open?
Matt Jones
Local honey. That's it. Yeah, I'm gonna have to try that. What's the place that you go and sing karaoke at once every couple years?
Ryan Lemond
We had a wild night there at that place that one night.
Matt Jones
What's it called?
Ryan Lemond
I don't know what it's called. Like, it's like a Thursday night.
Matt Jones
It's like the Townhouse Grill or something like that. Old Town Grill.
Ryan Lemond
Old Town Grill.
Matt Jones
He got really intoxicated and sang karaoke there one night, and it was really, really funny and ridiculous. We got to talk about something that. That I think is not pleasant, which is that Louisville might be good at basketball. I mean, they beat SMU on the road by, like, 30 the other night. You look at their schedule, they don't play another good team the rest of the year. Not one. They don't play one team that's even decent the rest of the year. I mean, they. It is not an exaggeration to say they could win every game left on their schedule. Now, they might drop one or two, but they have five losses, and they may not lose again, which is wild. They have a shot at finishing the ACC, like, 15 and 1 or 17 and 1 in the ACC because the ACC is so terrible. They've already played Duke, so they already have their loss in that one. I mean, are they good? Like, are they, like, legit, really good? They've won, like, nine in a row.
Shannon The Dude
They're good. They're definitely good. No arguing that to call them really good. It's just part of this. Is the ACC so bad so it's hard to get a good read? But they've won every game since losing Kentucky. What. Whatever the streak is at now. And the analytics predict them to win out, as you're saying, a lot of those, very comfortably. So I think they're going up with a good year, which, now that we have that win on our resume, sure. Go in all your.
Matt Jones
What do you think if they go, like, 17 and one in the ACC? Like, are they. Are they, like, a Final Four contender? I Mean, is that team we played in rup, is that a Final Four contender?
Ryan Lemond
I think we, we all have to admit they are good. I don't know if they're a Final Four team because after we saw them, you know, they can be exposed quite a bit. But they've got that Hepburn. I think he's a really good point guard that could probably put him on his shoulders and make a big run.
Matt Jones
I mean, here's the thing. When we get to our tournament resume, we've talked about our resume as, oh, we beat Duke, we beat Gonzaga, we beat Florida, we beat A and M, we beat Mississippi State. It might be the case that at the end of the year, Louisville is right there at the top of the teams we be. I mean, there's a decent chance that they're going to finish the year in like the top 10 because they don't really play anybody. So they could be. They could be a three seed, maybe even a two seed on. On in the tournament if they don't lose anymore.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, they're gonna have a great record and a lot of their wins. Not to. I'm. I'm discrediting them a little bit, but they've got some big logo win. They've been Virginia twice, but people don't really. Virginia is like 150th. Well, and part of their problem, they're down.
Matt Jones
They beat. But Indiana stinks.
Shannon The Dude
They're big logo wins.
Matt Jones
Yes, they beat. You're right. They beat Virginia twice, but they're terrible. They beat West Virginia.
Shannon The Dude
Terrible. They beat.
Matt Jones
Which is okay. But. But they beat North Carolina. You know, they beat. They beat Pitt, I think. I don't know if they played Wake Forest. That may be the only decent team they haven't played yet.
Shannon The Dude
But I, I think that's who they played next or next week.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So, like, they, I mean, they're going to go on a heck of a win streak and you know, yeah, they're good.
Shannon The Dude
The resume is going to look good. It's just when you get to tournament time having. Not with that conference being so bad, I wonder how good they really are.
Matt Jones
Okay, so would you like them to have a great record so that it gives us more of a, you know, that. That would make that win a much bigger win.
Ryan Lemond
The scenario you just put through, if that's going to end up being one of our better wins. I think it does help our resume enough that you want them to kind of continue to play well.
Matt Jones
Yeah, because the thing is, I can't hate Pat Kelsey. I want to, but you see that video of him hanging out the car. He's driving down the road, and these dudes seem. And they're like, pat Kelsey, what's up? And he, like, rolls down the window and was like, go cards. Like, lick. Like, puts his tongue out. And he kind of seems like a fun guy. I don't know if I like that. That the Louisville coach is fun.
Shannon The Dude
We had two Italian guys who wanted to murder each other for over a decade. And now we're all very confused because Louisville fans are like, that Pope guy's pretty nice. And we're like, that Kelsey guy looks like he's having a good time.
Matt Jones
It kind of stinks that everybody likes each other, but I guess that that's how it is. Who's next?
Drew Franklin
Emma.
Matt Jones
Emma. Go ahead, Emma. Hi, I'm Emma. My cheer coach is there with South Laurel. Your cheer coach is here. What is your cheer coach's name? Brianna Sosmore. Rihanna is sitting over here. She has a Ladies of KSR shirt on. And she's your cheer coach. Emma? Yes. I wanted to tell you that she's a UNC fan. Oh, she can't hear you right now. She just said that she thought we needed to know you were a North Carolina fan.
Shannon The Dude
Calling and telling on her cheerleader.
Matt Jones
How do you tell on your cheerleading coach on the air? Aren't you worried she's gonna make you run laps? Nah, it's okay. It's okay. All right, well, Emma, thank you very much. No, go ahead. She is a huge fan of Matt Jones, so she says you're also a huge fan of Matt Jones, which is very nice. Well, thank you very much, Emma. And Rihanna will let. And you're good. Are you gonna stay up, Brianna, to watch Caleb Wilson pick North Carolina tonight? Catch it tomorrow. See, I also didn't think about. Appreciate the call, Emma, that Kenny Smith is on that show, a North Carolina grad. So that also may make some sense why he's going on there to do it.
Ryan Lemond
Hadn't thought about that angle. That does kind of add to it a little bit.
Shannon The Dude
I hope Emma used a fake name. It might be up tonight at 1am but it might be some laps.
Matt Jones
Yes. All right, so DraftKings use DraftKings promo code. KSR bet 5. Get $200 on DraftKings. I've been on a cold streak, so my NFL picks are good, but my college basketball, I don't even know. Why do I bet on college basketball? I'm terrible at it. It's a sport I know the most, and it's A sport I do the worst on, which there's got to be.
Shannon The Dude
A lesson in that I'm getting killed. Arkansas -1 was good for me. Other than that, I'm losing everything.
Matt Jones
It's really unbelievable the way that's a. This is a sport I should know, and I just don't do very well on it. But Anyway, promo code KSR BET5, get 200. Download the DraftKings app, get yourself ready for the tournament. Not a lot of great things to pick tonight, so I'll just go random here. Wichita State is at Memphis. Who you got?
Ryan Lemond
Why not? Let's go Memphis, since I have no idea.
Shannon The Dude
Oh, yeah. Memphis taking the Tigers in that one.
Matt Jones
Maryland plays Illinois. And you're probably like, I don't care about Maryland. I don't care about Illinois. There's two dudes who are going to go in the lottery in this game. Can you name either one of them?
Ryan Lemond
Nope. No idea.
Matt Jones
Do you not.
Shannon The Dude
Can you? Yeah, I could get Illinois. It's not Big Z's brother, although he's really good.
Matt Jones
It's like, his name is like, Bush.
Shannon The Dude
Yes.
Matt Jones
He's really, really good. And then Maryland has a guy that, when I watch them play, I don't know how. He's a lottery pick. He's not in shape. He doesn't hustle. He likes. His name's Derek Queen, and I have no idea why he's a projected lottery pick. When I watch him, I don't get it. You know what I mean? He just looks like he's like just kind of out there. And then he's always projected in the lottery.
Shannon The Dude
I looked at a mock draft recently, and I guess I haven't been paying close enough attention because there are a few people projecting the lottery. I'm like, I'm not. Haven't even had eyeballs on this person. He's included.
Matt Jones
But anyway, they're playing tonight. Who you got?
Ryan Lemond
Let's go Illinois.
Matt Jones
I'll go Maryland. I go Illinois. They are at home and they've been. They've been pretty good here. Like, finally, Lakers, Celtics, they end up playing twice a year. This is one of the nights. This is the game from your childhood. Ryan, who do you have?
Ryan Lemond
I kind of grew up a semi Celtics fan, so I'm always going to pick the Celtics over the Lakers.
Matt Jones
Look at you. Look how. Look how mad Mario got. Celtics.
Ryan Lemond
Larry Bird, baby.
Matt Jones
Mario, is Bronnie your favorite player now? Seriously, like, do you have a poster of Bronnie in your house? It's okay if you do. You have Bronnie and Bryce, like the boys there. He loves the Lakers so much. Who you got?
Shannon The Dude
I'm just looking at Mario. I, I know what I have to pick now. I got to pick the Lakers. But I'm wondering, would he pick if he were the Lakers gm, would he want Bronnie or Ansley Almanor on the team right now? Because he loves both.
Matt Jones
Which would you rather have? Would you rather have brought me, or would you rather have Ansley Almanor see? Ansley Almanor see he, like, he loves him. Some answer I'm going to take. I'll take the Lakers to pull off the upset tonight at home in against Boston.
Ryan Lemond
I did see where Jared Vanderbilt got activated for the game tonight. He hadn't played all year. I don't think so.
Matt Jones
Well, they've, you know, Dalton connect's been good. The dude from Tennessee. So. 859280, 2287. I got to learn to wear a hat like Cam Newton. The fact that he goes on television like that is amazing to me. We'll take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. Final segment here, Kentucky Sports Radio. Shannon, you're playing Smashing Pumpkins. Do you like the Smashing Pumpkins? Was that one of your many bands that you liked in that era?
Drew Franklin
They were like top 10. They weren't one of my favorites, but I like Billy Corgan.
Matt Jones
Yes. I, I've had a lot of conversations with him over the years about wrestling. You know, interesting dude. Take. Very, very passionate about the, about pro wrestling.
Ryan Lemond
By the way, is he really?
Matt Jones
Yes. And I told you this, I think when it happened, when he called me the first time, his phone, it just pops up. Smashing Pumpkins.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Like it's like your corporate phone or something.
Matt Jones
You know, it's so crazy when you answer the phone and it just says Smashing Pumpkins on your phone. I think that's really odd.
Shannon The Dude
Were you a big fan when they were.
Ryan Lemond
No.
Matt Jones
I mean, I liked, I liked it fine. Like, like he had, he had this song and then you had what? Shannon? The World is a Vampire.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I know that one. Tonight. Tonight. Today.
Matt Jones
Today. Yeah. So, yeah, he was, he was good. Seems like he takes himself very seriously when it comes to music. I found him more pleasant to talk to about wrestling just because he was like, a lot chiller about him.
Shannon The Dude
Well, I'll definitely be watching the full version of the, the Bill and Bill incident that we were talking about earlier as soon as the show ends.
Matt Jones
Okay. Yes. All right. So I do this every year. I enjoy it with Ryan because he knows Nothing about this subject. The Oscar nominations came out today. I'm going to, I'm going to, to give you the names.
Ryan Lemond
Okay?
Matt Jones
You tell me what you know about these movies and you can't say nothing.
Ryan Lemond
Okay?
Matt Jones
You have to say something. All right, first, this is nominated for best picture. Wicked.
Ryan Lemond
It is a spin off of the wizard of Oz and Ariana Grande is the good witch. And I don't know the name of the lady who plays the bad witch.
Matt Jones
Okay. But it got nominated. Have you seen it?
Ryan Lemond
No.
Matt Jones
Okay. Anora, do you know what that's about?
Ryan Lemond
I have no idea what that's about. So if I have to guess, it's something about space.
Matt Jones
It's not about space. It's about a cover. Your kids, I think a high end prostitute who meets a man and then it like takes her into kind of a crazy, crazy law.
Ryan Lemond
I didn't see that coming. Yes, did not see that one coming.
Matt Jones
It's supposed to be very good. It's probably going to win.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, is it?
Matt Jones
It's probably going to win. All right, next. Oops, my phone. Okay. The Brutalist.
Ryan Lemond
I don't know anything about it, so I say it must be a bang, bang, shoot him up type of movie. Gangsters.
Matt Jones
Wrong. Adrian Brody plays a guy who. Something about architecture. It's three and a half hours long.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, that's a long time.
Matt Jones
What do you think you're gonna watch it?
Ryan Lemond
Not a chance.
Matt Jones
Okay. A complete unknown.
Ryan Lemond
I saw that one. That's the Bob Dylan movie.
Matt Jones
Oh, you saw it?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I said it got nominated.
Matt Jones
It got nominated.
Ryan Lemond
Timothy. Timothy Chabrolet.
Shannon The Dude
Close.
Ryan Lemond
Charbolay. Chamberlain Chamberlay.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
He should win best actor because he was phenomenal as Bob Dylan.
Matt Jones
Was that a good movie?
Ryan Lemond
I really enjoyed that movie.
Matt Jones
Okay, so you've seen. I saw one. Normally you've never seen.
Ryan Lemond
Never even heard of them.
Matt Jones
Okay. Conclave. I saw that one.
Shannon The Dude
My goodness.
Ryan Lemond
I saw two movies all year long.
Matt Jones
What did you think of Conclave?
Ryan Lemond
Conclave was great and it ended horribly. Remember I told you after I saw.
Matt Jones
It, I said I didn't like the ending.
Ryan Lemond
I hated the ending.
Matt Jones
But you liked everything.
Ryan Lemond
I did enjoy watching the movie, though.
Matt Jones
All right. Dune Part 2.
Ryan Lemond
I have no idea what that is. That's got to be a. That's got to be a psycho thriller type movie.
Matt Jones
It's. I've not seen it, but it's like sci fi kind of stuff. Yes. Amelia Perez.
Ryan Lemond
No idea. She sounds like she's like, I'm gonna say a Hispanic warrior that leads people to victory.
Matt Jones
Not exactly. I'll Let everybody look that one up. Oh, no.
Ryan Lemond
Really?
Matt Jones
Not exactly a warrior that, you know. Okay, y'all could look that one up. I'm still here.
Ryan Lemond
I don't know anything about that one. So that's got to be. That's got to be one that pulls at your heartstrings. Kind of a sad, sappy.
Matt Jones
I actually don't know what this one is.
Drew Franklin
Got to be about a really old person, right? Still.
Matt Jones
Shannon, look up. What? I'm. I'm still over here. Like, come on.
Ryan Lemond
Don't forget about me.
Matt Jones
Look that one up. Shannon. I actually don't know what that one's about. Will you look. Will you see what I'm.
Drew Franklin
A mother is forced to reinvent herself when her family's life is shattered by an act of arbitrary violence during the tightening grip of a military dictatorship in Brazil, 1971.
Matt Jones
Oh, okay. So there you go. So, like, there's a dictatorship. Her. Her family gets hurt, but she's still here.
Ryan Lemond
I won't be watching that one.
Matt Jones
Okay, good.
Ryan Lemond
Could be good.
Matt Jones
Nickel boys.
Ryan Lemond
I don't know about that. That sounds like something maybe I might want to watch. That sounds like what?
Matt Jones
To tell me why, in your mind, you hear the term nickel boys and you think, I want to see that.
Ryan Lemond
Because it's a comedy. I hear that. I think that's gonna be a funny show to watch. A comedy.
Matt Jones
Not a comedy. It's. It's hard to describe. I've read the book A long time ago by Colson Whitehead. I. I think you would like it.
Ryan Lemond
What's it about? Well, we'll just can't get into it.
Drew Franklin
You want to HEAR what the IMB.
Matt Jones
Yeah. What does IMDb say?
Drew Franklin
Chronicles the powerful, powerful friendship between two young African American men navigating the harrowing trials of reform school together in Florida.
Matt Jones
Oh, well, that's a better description. That's a good description.
Ryan Lemond
Okay.
Matt Jones
That's a good description. So you would want to see that.
Ryan Lemond
Doesn'T sound like it's a comedy.
Matt Jones
It's not a comedy. I think we can say that. And then finally, the substance.
Ryan Lemond
I don't know anything about this one. This has got to be a. This has got to be like a.
Matt Jones
All right, what if I told you it starred Demi Moore?
Ryan Lemond
She's making a resurgence. You know, she's on land, man, but.
Matt Jones
She'S making a resurgence in part because of this movie.
Ryan Lemond
Okay. I'm gonna say then it's. She's got to be a powerful woman that is overcoming the odds and surviving and thriving.
Matt Jones
Surviving and thriving. Like Doing what?
Ryan Lemond
You know, maybe she's had a tough go of it. Maybe she's, you know, struggling financially, but she finds herself and.
Matt Jones
But what was it?
Drew Franklin
Not far off though, really.
Matt Jones
But what would the substance be? Part of it.
Ryan Lemond
Well, she's the. She's found the, the go go. She's got her mojo back. So the substance is the mojo.
Drew Franklin
He's kind of on the right.
Matt Jones
Well, sort of. It's a horror movie. It's a horror movie about how Hollywood women have to like, do all this stuff to themselves to try to stay beautiful. And like, she has this like, thing. It's like a horror movie. It's like thing growing in her. What does it say?
Drew Franklin
It says a fading celebrity takes a black market drug, a cell replicating substance that temporarily creates a younger, better version of herself.
Matt Jones
Yes, there you go.
Drew Franklin
Ryan wasn't far off.
Shannon The Dude
Really?
Ryan Lemond
Well, she's good in Landman.
Matt Jones
So you've. So you've seen two of the 10.
Ryan Lemond
I am just stunned. I've seen two of the 10 that have been nominated.
Matt Jones
And how many of the rest of them would you like to see?
Ryan Lemond
Probably zero. Especially not that three and a half hour movie. I ain't watching that one.
Matt Jones
There you go. Who's up next? Clint. Go ahead, Clint.
Drew Franklin
Hey, guys.
Caller
Yeah. Going back to the hall of Fame thing real quick and talking about like the one guy that's, you know, not voting. I don't know if it's the same guy every time, but there has to definitely be one dude that just hates the Seattle Mariners.
Matt Jones
Right?
Caller
Because Ken Griffey Jr. Definitely should have been the first unanimous. So. So there, there's definitely that. And I think like Ichiro, if I'm not mistaken, on his eighth game in the, in the major leagues, he hit.300 and then never dropped below it for the rest of his career.
Matt Jones
Oh, that's so. I didn't know that.
Caller
Yeah, that's pretty.
Matt Jones
That's pretty amazing.
Shannon The Dude
And then appreciate.
Matt Jones
Yo, go ahead.
Caller
But then one other thing.
Drew Franklin
Finally.
Caller
I don't know if you mentioned it or not, but I'm pretty sure Billy Corgan's maternal grandparents are from Hopkinsville.
Matt Jones
Hey, people keep writing me, writing me that I appreciate the call. Billy Corgan's grandparents from Hopkinsville, who knew mother's parents. Yeah, I think that's what he said.
Ryan Lemond
I'll be dang, huh?
Matt Jones
So I'll be dang.
Shannon The Dude
I'll be dang indeed. That's a nice.
Matt Jones

Shannon The Dude
I mean, the week break is kind of a little fun. Not as much work, but I miss watching him play basketball. I already want to get back out there, so.
Matt Jones
That's the thing about this team. We only have 14 more games. Like this team is so much fun to watch. Ryan, I'm not looking forward to the season ending because of how much I enjoy watching.
Ryan Lemond
I think we're all the same bowl. We want to see him on the court all the time. But maybe Lamont Butler use this week to kind of heal up a little bit. The dude's been banged up like he's been playing football in the SEC car.
Shannon The Dude
They needed a big break.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Actually 13 more games. So we got to make sure we take advantage of all of them. Appreciate everybody listening. We will see you tomorrow at Don Franklin. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio.
