Welcome back our number two Kentucky sports radio here at the Don Franklin Hyundai in Lexington. We're going to give some UK tickets away at the end of the show. Also KS bar gift card. So a lot of good, a lot of good prizes here before the weekend. Kentucky and Vandy tomorrow 2:30 pregame show will start at noon. So pregame show will start at noon. We'll be showing the game at the bar tomorrow obviously and it is a big one. And then of course Sunday is the AFC and the NFC championship games. One person writes, Matt, your prediction about the cost of the eggs was exceptional. They it is. I'm big on puns. There's a lot of this. It's egregious that these things are rising at this that these cost. What do you think about that Shannon?
Shannon The Dude
I think it's too.
Ryan Lemond
You hate puns, don't you?
Shannon The Dude
No, I like them when they're good but that's just really bad.
Ryan Lemond
Why it uses the word in the thing. Exceptional.
Shannon The Dude
It's not that funny.
Ryan Lemond
All right. You just have a hard, hard, hard time. All right, let's go over really quick and AFC NFC championship start with the NFC is at 3 o'clock on Sunday. You got the commanders and the Eagles. Jaden Daniels trying to become what is it only the third quarterback ever to take his team to the third rookie quarterback ever to make his team fourth to make take his team to Super Bowl. What do you think?
Drew Franklin
Man, they got that huge win last weekend winning at Detroit. A team I thought was super bowl bound for sure. Now they got to go to at Philly. Gonna be tough to win that one. I'm gonna take Philly.
Ryan Lemond
I'm a bet on the commanders because I think either. I think it's toss up and the commanders are getting six and a half points. So if it's a toss up and I get six and a half, I'm going to take it. We'll pick the Eagles, Drew, but I think the commanders cover. What about you?
Evan
Yeah, I was surprised to see that line. I'm doing the same thing. I just. I think the Eagles have the edge. They have Saquon Barkley, they have the crowd. I think they'll be the one moving forward. But it's been amazing what Daniels and Washington have done. Washington, Washington fan. Do you feel this at all?
Drew Franklin
I. I do because they were the same color as my high school burgundy and gold bike Central Chargers. So I kind of grew up most of my youth as a Redskins fan.
Ryan Lemond
But he, but he's asking you, do you feel like. Do you feel like you don't seem excited that your team is potentially playing for the Super Bowl?
Drew Franklin
I. I didn't realize it was six and a half. That's a lot of points. But I.
Ryan Lemond
That's still not answering the question. Are you excited about the fact that there your team is playing for the Super Bowl?
Drew Franklin
Super excited. They haven't been there for like what, 30 years. It's been forever since they've been this far in the.
Ryan Lemond
But you don't sound excited.
Drew Franklin
Well, I kind of dumped the Redskins for the Colts when the Colts moved to Indianapolis.
Evan
So that was the answer.
Ryan Lemond
I was looking for the commanders and you're no longer a fan is the true.
Evan
That's what I was trying to get out.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
All right. So we got there, just took a while. Just like with the eggs. Okay. What about you? Who you got?
Shannon The Dude
I would pull for any team over the Eagles. I'm going to go with the commanders. Let's go. Washington. Hopefully they make the super bowl and I would love to actually see them win the Super Bowl.
Ryan Lemond
Jaden Daniels. This might be the best performance by a rookie quarterback ever. Because if you go look at the other guys have been in the super bowl, they were on teams where like the rest of the team was really good, like Joe Flacco. But like the Ravens were stacked everywhere else. You had brought Purdy. The rest of the 49ers were stacked. This may be the first time that the quarterback is maybe the reason a rookie team is gone. So, you know, then you got the Bills against the Chiefs, Mahomes, Allen. Will Josh Allen get over the hump, Shannon. And finally get to a Super bowl and take down the. The beast of the Kansas City Chiefs?
Shannon The Dude
I'm hoping so, but I know everybody wants to see Taylor Swift at the super bowl, so I think that's probably what's going to end up happen, unfortunately. But Bills and, and Commanders, that would be a very 90s Super bowl, wouldn't it?
Ryan Lemond
It would, it would. It'd be kind of weird too. I don't think it feels like that would be the super bowl, but. So you're taking.
Shannon The Dude
I'm gonna, I'm gonna take the Chiefs. They're probably gonna win.
Evan
Yeah, I'm rooting for the Bills really hard, but I just. You can't pick against Kansas City and Kansas City. I mean there. I'm not someone that really thinks there's a jinx going on, but they do happen to win every game, every close game at home and I think that will continue again this time.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, you're not going to beat Mahomes in Kansas City in the championship game.
Ryan Lemond
Burrow did it.
Evan
It's true. True.
Ryan Lemond
Burrow did it once. But you don't think so.
Drew Franklin
No. Chiefs.
Ryan Lemond
This stat about Kansas City is amazing. They have been to seven straight AFC championship games. Seven straight. That is, that is crazy. Mahomes is going to retire likely as the best quarterback of all time. It's either going to be him or Brady when it, when his career is over. I just, and you know, I don't bet, I won't bet this game because I don't bet against Brady or excuse me, against Mahomes. But it just kind of feels like maybe this is where they get them. But I'm still going to pick Kansas City because I, you know, you can't go against the dude that just doesn't lose. Like they don't lose and then they're at home and all that. They just, they don't lose.
Evan
We're going to watch it. It's going to get late in the game. Buffalo is going to be up three and on third and 17 he's going to find Travis Kelsey in the middle of field. He's going to turn and run 20 yards and they're going to score a game winning touchdown late in the fourth.
Ryan Lemond
Travis Kelce could be like 65 years old walking with a cane and I would still think he would get open on the possession that matters. He gets open every single time. I will say in my lifetime, if you're talking about athletes who in the moment In a clutch moment, I have more confidence they're going to come through for me. Jordan, Tiger, Mahomes, if you're just talking about, I know they're gonna make the play. Ryan. I feel like those are the three of my life.
Drew Franklin
And that's what I'm saying, man. You got him at home. He just finds a way to win. You just can't beat that guy in again. A game has this much magnitude.
Ryan Lemond
859-280-2287. Caleb Wilson decided last night at 1:20 in the morning. They put him on the set at 1:20, 20am prime time, baby. Prime time. And he opened up his jacket, picked Carolina. Kenny Smith goes crazy top 10 recruit. This was going to be if we got him the best player in our class. Were you disappointed, Drew, that he picked North Carolina? We knew it was probably coming, but were you still disappointed?
Evan
Not in the moment. At that point, I just. I was expecting it. But I am disappointed overall because, you know, early in the football season is when Kaden Lewis committed and he and Caleb Wilson were very much on Twitter back and forth, you know, come commit here. And it looked like. And adding Jasper Johnson, that looked like he had a little freshman trio that was very close. And it sounded like even back then it was all but done behind the scenes. So you go a couple months just assuming he's going to be a part of next year's team and Carolina in the end, wins out. It's different now than it was with Cal, just because with the Portal and the way Pope recruits, it doesn't feel like the end of the world. But I'm not going to act like I'm not disappointed. I really wanted him to be a part of the team. But I am confident that there's a Portal player or something along the line that can still be a good fit.
Ryan Lemond
If this were five years ago, I'd be devastated. Like, if this were five years ago, I would think this is a huge hit for Pope because I think freshman one and done recruiting was massive back then. And I think especially in the Cal era, you had to get the elite guys. We learned that if he didn't get a top guy, it wasn't happening. Important. I'm not gonna act like it's not important because I still want to see Pope go and get a top 10 dude. Because I think if you're going to get freshmen to win you titles, you still got to have a top 10 dude. But now you can win titles without having the freshman top 10 dude because you can get juniors and seniors, etc. So, I mean, we'll use that money somewhere else. I think it means he's going to have to go. He's going to have to go get the best one or two or three, like one of those guys in the portal. But. So it's disappointing, but it's not. It's not crippling. It is interesting to me, though, Ryan. Everyone at UK from September to about mid January thought he was coming. And then it kind of changed in the last week or two, and a lot of people think it changed because of Nil. And do you know who's in charge of Nil at North Carolina? Is it TJ Bisner, who we used to. I. Who I hired from Kodak at Florida? And I say that to say, you just never know how life is going to go. TJ Bisner, who started on the KSR blog as a volunteer writer, is now in charge of Nil at North Carolina and steals a recruit from Kentucky. And I. I'm not mad at him at all. Kudos to him. But what a bizarre world that is. Right?
Drew Franklin
When you put it like that, that is kind of crazy that. You know. But if it comes down to tj, one of our boys now stealing one of our guys we really wanted. So now is TJ a villain? We put him on the. We like him, but he's.
Ryan Lemond
I mean, he's doing his job. I mean, he's doing his job. I. I can't. TJ left because he couldn't deal with Cal anymore. Right. So, like, that's, you know, I'm sure if you. If you were. If tj, TJ love to be here working for Pope. Like, it just. That's the way it goes sometimes, Shannon. But kind of crazy that would happen, but it does stink losing. I mean, he's. He's an elite talent.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. Imagine, though, being a lifelong Kentucky fan, and then your job goes against your heart and you gotta recruit against Kentucky. I mean, you got to do your job. But that's.
Ryan Lemond
It's just.
Shannon The Dude
It's gonna be tough.
Ryan Lemond
If you would have told me that many years ago that the dude that was on the group chat with me and Drew going, do we post this picture or not? About so and so that that dude would be the guy that takes a recruit from Kentucky like Drew. It's just. It's just so wild to me. Yeah, maybe like you one day stealing a recruit, like, that's crazy.
Evan
I think he owes us a few more news and views tonight. I'm watching bti. I mean, we got to keep an eye on bti. He could try to bring down Kentucky, too.
Ryan Lemond
Tyler Thompson. If you go to Auburn, Tyler, I'm gonna know. I'm gonna know what's happening. Who's next?
Evan
Adam is up next.
Ryan Lemond
Adam. Go ahead, Adam.
Caller
Hey, guys. The thing about Cal and I think you all discussed before, it's not just that the losses start piling up. You know the caller earlier saying he hates Cal. What? I don't hate Cal. I really appreciate bringing us a championship. He had one of the greatest runs in school history. But when it started, the talking down to fans and acting like we're idiots, that we don't know basketball, that we don't know what we're talking about, that's when I think it really started turning south.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, I think that's right. I think for most fans, that was. That was a big thing. You know, look, it's like when you get. Again, I wasn't married, so I'll. I'll go to you, Ryan, for this. Appreciate the call. You know, sometimes a trait that a person has when you start dating, you find cute, and after a while, that same trait, the person may not even be doing anything differently. But then it just starts to get on your nerves. I mean, like, you can say, oh, when you were kind of a little bratty, that was fun at first. And then after, like, eight years of it, you go, I don't know if I want to hear that anymore. Right. I think a lot of the way Cal was, I think he got worse. But then also, we just, like, you just get. You can't only hear that. I haven't seen him so many times till you want to know, why haven't you see me?
Drew Franklin
I feel like that that's a lot of. What are. We kind of wore thin when Cal was talking down to us. It was okay when he was winning. Then he started talking down to us, and they weren't winning as much and kind of struggling. That's. We're like, okay, look, dude. You know, we put up with it when we were winning championships, going to the ball.
Shannon The Dude
He never changed his tone. He. He kept that same attitude throughout his career. Even when he was losing.
Ryan Lemond
No, I think there's a lot of truth to that. Like, you can be arrogant when you're winning. Yes. Like, Bobby Knight showed that, like, Bobby Knight could do whatever he want when he was winning. And then the moment he started losing, people look at it differently.
Evan
Yep. I mean, and we're guilty of receiving it some. Like, listen to him some ways. I mean, when you Go out and beat a team by 20 and say, I don't know when our next game is. You go, well, you just won by 20. Maybe you don't need to know when the game is. But when you're in Arkansas and you're owing 5 and you say, I don't know when the next game is, you're getting a completely different reaction.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. 859-280-2287. Who's next?
Evan
Daryl is up next.
Ryan Lemond
Daryl. Go ahead, Daryl.
Caller
Quick football comment, then a basketball question. You're talking about quarterbacks getting to the Super Bowl. You left out Dan Marino from 1983, who I think was.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I think he made this. Didn't he make the super bowl, though? In his second year? Not his first year. I think he did. You might be right.
Caller
You might be right. I'd have to look back. A whole bunch of us from Henderson are going down to the game tomorrow, probably about a dozen of us. So there is going to be a big Western Kentucky contingent down there. Are any of you guys going to the game?
Ryan Lemond
I don't think we are. Yeah, I don't think any of us are. Are you guys. You planning on being loud? Because we're gonna have to out shout those nerds.
Caller
We get pretty loud. Yes.
Ryan Lemond
Okay, good.
Caller
We get pretty loud.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I. You go to. You give them hell. I appreciate the call.
Shannon The Dude
Both coaches are kind of nerds, too. Vandy's. Mark Byington is. We know. Mark Pope is.
Ryan Lemond
You think Mark Pope's a nerd?
Shannon The Dude
We've called him a nerd. Oh, you've called him a nerd?
Ryan Lemond
You know he's a nerd. I would never.
Shannon The Dude
Oh, pull the tape, Rick. Extra nerdy.
Ryan Lemond
There's a difference. There's a difference between nerd and, like, dork. Okay, please elaborate. There's nerd, there's dork, and there's. There's geek.
Shannon The Dude
And what's the difference?
Ryan Lemond
Well, if I.
Evan
He's an expert on the matter.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, no, I think. I think Mark Pope. You're probably right. Mark Pope is a nerd.
Caller
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
A nerd is somebody smart, digs into the numbers. Yeah. But it's still able to. Whatever. A dork is somebody with, like, no social skill skills, like, can't really talk. And then a geek is somebody into, like, fantasy games, Dungeons and Dragons and that kind of stuff. So I think there's. There's nerd, then there's dork and there's geek.
Shannon The Dude
So nerd's a compliment, Actually.
Ryan Lemond
It is to me. Yeah. Now, some people, though, don't like to read and don't like numbers. And so they may not think so, but I think you're right. Mark Pope's a nerd.
Drew Franklin
What?
Evan
What a flip.
Ryan Lemond
All right, I flipped them.
Evan
You.
Ryan Lemond
You did flip.
Evan
He said. I never said that.
Ryan Lemond
Then you know what? By the end, I agreed with you. You've been showing love to God's fan God, not God's pantry. God's Pantry Food bank. They are getting close to their goal of a million meals by Valentine's Day. For that throughout Kentucky, it's great. We have given a total now of 246 meals from the Kentucky fan base. So excuse me, 246 donations. And then think about how many meals that is. That's pretty amazing. So the goal is to donate Mark Pope's number of $41 by Valentine's Day to continue increasing the amount of meals so they can get their million gold by Valentine's day. Go to GodSpantry.org KSR just so you know, every time I read this ad, I do another $41. I hope you all will too. God's pantry, if you can, if you're able. Godspantry.org KSR for meals for folks in Kentucky. Great organization. We'll take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live at Don Franklin Hyundai, giving away some tickets at the end of the show. Here on a cold day before the weekend. Cats and Vandy 2:30. Apparently the UK blue coats are taking a busload of people to the game tomorrow, so that's good there. Maybe there'll be more Kentucky fans than we even realize.
Drew Franklin
There's like you said earlier, I think you said you maybe predicted 6040 Kentucky to Vandy fans, that may be even big.
Ryan Lemond
A big 60, 40 Vandy Kentucky. I mean, Vandy still has season ticket holders and stuff that would go. And then the student section.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, student sex is always pretty rad.
Ryan Lemond
They got kind of a big student section too.
Shannon The Dude
They have a reason to actually show up because the team's decent for the first time in six, seven, eight years.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. One person writes, Matt, take the four of you. If you had to give one of you nerd, one of you dork, and one of you geek, how would you do it? All right, I'd say I'm probably the nerd because I read a ton.
Drew Franklin
I'm a dork.
Ryan Lemond
I was gonna say that. And you just volunteered.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. That's fair.
Ryan Lemond
Really? See, I thought you were gonna fight me on that.
Evan
No.
Drew Franklin
Out of the three choices. I think I'm probably a dork.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. And then I would probably say Shannon's the geek. Because of wrestling. Right. Like, wrestling's kind of a geeky. I don't really think it's very athletic.
Shannon The Dude
What do you mean, geeky?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, but it's. I mean, it's a little sport professional. Obviously. I love it too, but would you. You would Grant you it's a little geeky for you to put those little tights?
Shannon The Dude
Absolutely not.
Ryan Lemond
No, you don't.
Caller
The geek.
Shannon The Dude
The geeks are the one who watch that. So here's your geeks right here in the front row.
Ryan Lemond
Like, you know, first of all, Shannon, those are our paying customers.
Evan
What are they paying Clientele?
Ryan Lemond
I'm saying that the people who come to OVW and pay.
Shannon The Dude
Right.
Ryan Lemond
Those are our paying customers. You can't call them geeks.
Shannon The Dude
Have you not been to an OBW show? I do it on an open mic every week.
Ryan Lemond
I understand, but I. I'm just saying. I don't know if that's the best.
Shannon The Dude
I'm just saying, like, Dungeons and Dragons. The dragons aren't the geeks. It's the people who play Dungeons and Dragons.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, so you're a dragon? No.
Evan
You're saying you're the toy.
Shannon The Dude
I'm the toy.
Ryan Lemond
You're the toy the geeks play with. Okay. All right. I don't know if that's better or worse if you're the toy that the geeks play with. Shane and I. I was on Instagram last night.
Shannon The Dude
Yes.
Ryan Lemond
And I saw. I was, like, looking at the story, and your face came up, and you were holding up this camera. I don't know if anybody saw this. You were holding the camera in your face, and you were like, who would be kidnapped by night agent if the night agent would kidnap you? Write me and tell me about it. And I was like, what are you talking about?
Shannon The Dude
That was the actual verbiage. But yeah. So this was an endorsement through Netflix with the show called the Night Agent, and season two is out, so they.
Ryan Lemond
Wanted you to endorse the night agent by asking people if they would be kidnapped by a night agent.
Shannon The Dude
You have to go to the iHeartRadio app. We're giving away $5,000 to. Or, yeah, $5,000, but $1,000 to five lucky people. And you have to go on to the iHeartRadio app. You click the microphone button, and then you record how the Night Agent can rescue you.
Ryan Lemond
That doesn't sound geeky at all.
Shannon The Dude
You know what?
Evan
I need to revote on this.
Shannon The Dude
Hey, they paid me to say that.
Ryan Lemond
So that does not sound to be clear. Please write me and tell me how the Night Agent will rescue you.
Shannon The Dude
You're not going. You're not writing me. You're doing it on the iHeardio app. Okay. And to be fair, I've never seen the Night Agents.
Ryan Lemond
I don't know if you should admit that. I've heard that's a good show, actually. But, see, I did think it was funny because it came up as an ad. It wasn't on. Your story was just an ad, Shannon. The dude popped up on my story. 85928, 2287 cop, open lines. Who's next? Nate is up next. Nate, Go ahead, Nate.
Caller
Yeah. Hey, Matt and the. The gang. How's it going?
Ryan Lemond
Doing good. So this.
Caller
This cow. I'm a little late, but this cow documentary got me thinking with football, I think no matter how what happens in spring. And I know what we're like, let's win now. But you know what comes up in the summertime?
Ryan Lemond
What? That Netflix show. We've had a bad history with documentaries at this school. I mean, Remember, it was ESPN followed us in 2013, the year we went to the NIT. That was the year they had that Facebook documentary happening. The. The year. And then the COVID season cut it off right in the middle of it. So now you know Netflix. So for people who know, who want. Who don't realize it's not just Kentucky that the documentary is about. Eight teams in the sec, each gave access to Netflix. Each episode, as I understand it, will be about one of those teams. So each team gets an episode. The problem is that the Kentucky episode is the South Carolina game and the Tennessee game.
Evan
So I think it's the Louisville game.
Ryan Lemond
It's the Louisville game.
Evan
It's even worse.
Drew Franklin
Oh, that's even worse.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, no. I thought it was a Tennessee.
Evan
All right, you agreed, right?
Ryan Lemond
I think.
Evan
Yeah, I think it's Louisville.
Ryan Lemond
It's the South Carolina game in the Louisville game, regardless. So, yeah, so we're gonna be the tragic episode, clearly, of the. Of the group. So, yeah, that's not gonna be fun, Ryan, to watch when that comes out, because that was. Those were maybe the two worst games of the year.
Drew Franklin
Actually, I was just talking Josiah last night about that Louisville game. It was really. Remember, it was really cold. We were getting beat. We left at halftime because that was a butt kicking they gave us that day.
Ryan Lemond
So you excited to rewatch it Drew on Netflix this summer?
Evan
I didn't see 4K cameras at the concession stand when Gerald Mincy was there, but I hope they were nearby.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I mean it's not going to be, that's going to be bad, bad publicity. And it comes out in August right before the season starts.
Evan
And that South Carolina game, we were so excited. They were 13 point favorite. I mean it's just gonna show the fall. I'm sure we're gonna see the joy leading into it and we're gonna destroy this team into just the season going into what it was.
Ryan Lemond
Those shows exist to do one things show or two things show you joy and show you pain. I don't know who they're using for joy. I'm sure there'll be teams but when you consider the two games they got with us, we're going to be the episode of pain.
Drew Franklin
We're the pain.
Ryan Lemond
We are the pain without question. And that's. That is going to be tough just from a morale standpoint to have come out right before the new season hits. Just unfortunate timing. That's the risk you take when you do those. We'll take a break and be right back. This is ksr. Welcome back. Techie Sports Radio here Don Franklin, whatever your needs may be. Don Franklin is here with our team of experts to help you find the perfect vehicle to match your budget and lifestyle. Thank you from Don Franklin. Auto.com Speaking of thank yous, I want to thank the KSR listening audience. We have had over the course of January and we're not even to the end of the month but over the course of January, probably our highest consistent podcast listening numbers since we've been doing this. I mean so thank you all very much. I mean, you know, there'll be individual days throughout history when something happens and everybody but if you're just talking show to show consistently listening without question our biggest numbers in January. But even if you throw in like March in in NCAA tournament runs and football, I, I can't remember a time I'm gonna. I mean we are consistently in the top 25 podcast episodes in America and like the others are all the Kelsey brothers. Pardon my take, Bill Simmons. I mean it's crazy. So Ryan, a big thank you to the fans that there is. I had a conversation with a company yesterday about an advertisement thing and the person said there is no local radio show in the country that does what you all do. And I really appreciate the fans who helped make that happen.
Drew Franklin
You think a lot of it is, you know, the excitement about the basketball team?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I think so.
Drew Franklin
Fill and rope arena our shows. You Know, it's just we finally got our team back, and we're excited about it.
Ryan Lemond
I mean, honestly, we had gotten to the point. So, like, when I started the show in 2010, we would see huge spikes every February and March, where, obviously, for the NCAA tournament, and then it would kind of dip a little bit in April, but then starting about 2017, it stayed pretty consistent. But you didn't get the March spikes, not surprisingly, because we weren't. Because we weren't very good, to be honest with you. Now, like, we started seeing a spike in. In November, really, And it has stayed through the whole time. And there's no doubt Mark Pope Drew is a. Is a huge part of that. There's just so much more energy around everything.
Evan
Yeah. We can even fill it just with feedback from the show, seeing people at remotes. But also to the point about the fan excitement. It just makes me more excited about getting to March. I mean, we're right around the corner. I'm hoping multiple weekends in the ncaa, multiple days in Nashville, that's just more. More fun shows and more fun sports for us to have together as we follow this journey.
Shannon The Dude
I think the last four years is really worn on the fan base. And to your point, Nashville, I think this year is going to be maybe crazier than ever with the excitement that we have. Plus, you add in two more teams in the sec.
Ryan Lemond
So let me tell you real quick, this is a little dilemma I have because I have to do this this weekend. So, you know, I have that little nerd fellowship that we've talked about. Yeah, nerd, not geek Fellowship. The. In Aspen. So we are going to the Hayes in Netherlands, and the flight is the con. The. The event starts the Monday of the national championship game. Okay. We are supposed to leave, fly out from New York, all of us, Saturday night of the Final Four. So I had to talk to him, and I was like, look, you understand if Kentucky were in the Final Four, like, I can't just pick up and go to the Netherlands, right? Like. Like, I just can't do that. And they said, well, you agreed to be part of this. So I gave him a compromise, which was, all right, if we make the Final Four, I'm going to the Final Four.
Shannon The Dude
Kentucky.
Ryan Lemond
If Kentucky was to be in the Final Four because it's in San Antonio, right. I'm going, then I'll fly on Sunday, fly all night, and I would just have to miss the National Championship. So I. I mean, there's nothing I can do about it. But I was like, I'm not gonna miss the Final Four if we're in it. I'm not. I'm going. I've never been to. Santana is like, the biggest city in America I've never been to. I'm like, I'm going. So, you know, now, with that said, if I had to get. If they made the national championship game and I had to get on the plane that Sunday, that would break my heart. But, you know, what a great position to be in, if that was what happened. But. But anyway, I'm. But the fact that that's even a theoretical thought is an exciting place to be. Right?
Drew Franklin
You would have to take your equipment and join us.
Ryan Lemond
No, no, I would do the show. I said to him, I was like, I'll come, but I'm doing my show, like, you know, from. From the Hague. Hey, everybody at the War Crimes Tribunal, scoot over. KSR is happening right here, right now.
Evan
I hope you run into that problem. It's unfortunate you would have to make that decision, but I hope it comes to that for you and for everyone else that you're in that situation.
Ryan Lemond
That would be. That would be great for. All right. DraftKings. If you bet $5, you can win 250 from DraftKings. You are $200. Excuse me. You can bet the championship games tonight or Sunday. Everything you want from DraftKings. You all know about it. Download the app. Use my promo code. KSR bet 5, get 200. Let's go over the SEC games. Let's pick them. I'll start with you, Shannon. There's some good ones this weekend. Mississippi State ranked 15th at South Carolina. South Carolina should have beaten Florida this week and let it fall. Did they get Mississippi State?
Shannon The Dude
South Carolina should have had a couple of SEC wins, but they're over. I'm going to go Mississippi State keeps them that way. They went on the road.
Evan
Mississippi State. I think playing Florida close will only hurt South Carolina in this game. A little bit of a hangover.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. South Carolina, they got their heart ripped out against Florida tonight, so I'm going. Mississippi State with the win on the road.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, that's the thing. If they beaten Florida, I actually think they'd win this game. Yeah, they lost, and so I'm going to take Mississippi State. Texas A and M is at Texas. Big rivalry. They played it just a couple weeks ago, and A and M1 there. Texas is like 2 and 4 in the conference, so they need this one. Do they win at home?
Shannon The Dude
Texas has struggled adapting to SEC life. I think Texas ain't A and M. Is the better team. They went on the road. Another road win.
Evan
I'm gonna agree. I think A and M gets them.
Drew Franklin
A&M's got their stud back too. So I'm gonna take A and M to win that game.
Ryan Lemond
I'm gonna take Texas at home. They need this one. They're gonna be on the bubble later in the year. If they don't get it, I think they get this game. George is at Florida. Any chance Georgia pulls the upset? Florida's not look like Florida in the last couple weeks.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, there's a chance, but I think I'm gonna give the edge to the home team. In which case is Florida. So I'll say Florida.
Evan
Yeah. Florida's had some scares and some bad performances lately, but I still think they're a very good team. They'll win this one.
Drew Franklin
The Mike White Bowl. Former team. Yeah. So I'm going to say I'm going to have Georgia pulling the upset.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, wow. Okay. I'm going to take Florida. Who would have thought at the beginning of the year this is a game with two ranked teams who are at the top of the sec. Ole Miss at Missouri. Who would have ever believed that's a ranked matchup? Who you got?
Shannon The Dude
That's going to be a good one. I think I'm going to give Ole Miss the win here. Another again, that's three road teams that I picked. It's tough to win on the road to the sec, but I think Ole Miss is the better team.
Evan
I'm going to say Missouri continues their impressive turnaround from a year ago and they win another one at home. Staying hot in the league, dude.
Drew Franklin
I think we got to admit Missouri's pretty dag on good and they got a great coach. So I'm going to go Missouri, you, Missouri.
Ryan Lemond
For all the great talk about what Pope's done, Pat Kelce's done all these, Missouri has the same coach that went 08 last year. Like, this is not even a new coach. He went 0:18 in conference and now they're good. That's a pretty amazing turnaround for a coach to be able to do. For me, if he stays like this, he's the SEC coach of the year. I mean, anybody who's able to do that. With that said, they've been getting great crowds at their games. They've been into it. I'm going to take Missouri to win at home. We all think Alabama wins at home against lsu. So what about the big one? Tennessee at Auburn. In. In Auburn. No Johnny Broom.
Shannon The Dude
I think Auburn wins. I mean, Tennessee has been slipping. They got blown out at Florida, lost to Vandy. I think Auburn wins this one.
Evan
I'm going Auburn too. I mean, that was a big loss, but they still got a great team and that venue will be on fire. They're very excited down there.
Ryan Lemond
They got game day, two game days there.
Evan
That's my favorite place in the SEC outside of Rupp. I think they'll be ready for him.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, Auburn's good even without broom and they can score a lot of points. Tennessee kind of struggling offensively, so I think Auburn wins and wins big.
Ryan Lemond
Honestly, Auburn wins this game. They're winning the sec. I mean, like, like as hard as the SEC is, if Auburn, their schedule is kind of packed right in here. They play us like they win this game, they can probably drop two or three conference games and still win. This is the kind of game Rick Barnes wins though, right? Like, this is the. He, he. He wins on the road in tough environments, they sometimes drop them at home or to Vandy. I actually think Tennessee pulls the upset and gets the win. Gets the win at Auburn. In Auburn. Who's next? Aaron is up next. Aaron, Go ahead, Aaron.
Caller
Hey, Matt, this is Darren. Today's my 63rd birthday and happy birthday. Thank you. I might get out of my holler in Lynch, Kentucky and head up to here.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, yeah, you're. You live in the holler in Lynch. That's right. So you're. You're deep in eastern Kentucky.
Caller
Yep, I'm deep in eastern Kentucky. Lived in Lynch, Kentucky all my life. And I'm gonna head up to Lexington to your restaurant and I'm gonna get. I want to know what. I want to know what you have that I can get. Do you have a fried chicken dinner with gravy on the taters?
Ryan Lemond
So you had me for a minute. I'm not gonna lie to you. Yes, well, you should always get the wings. But we have fried chicken. If. And you had me. I'm not gonna lie to you because we do have a caller from lynch and I thought it was him, but Slink Blade.
Evan
Yeah, that's what I was getting out of that.
Ryan Lemond
See, I didn't. But. But we do have a caller from lynch and so I thought that was. Yeah, taters. We'll take a break. Be right back here at Don Franklin. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. He got fun. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Final segment here. Don Franklin Hyundai in Lexington. Thank you to Don Franklin, one of best partners in all forms. Appreciate them being here. And I'll give you one more price here. Shannon GMC 24. 24 GMC Canyon. Elevation, rear wheel drive, 37. 181.
Shannon The Dude
81. I'll tell you what, Drew's been very gracious. I'll throw in the $1.
Ryan Lemond
Okay. Well, that's very nice of you.
Shannon The Dude
If anybody buys that.
Ryan Lemond
So there's up to. You could get up to $5 in discounts from Shannon or Drew if you. If you get the vehicle. What person writes, Matt, that Trump is letting all the files go from the JFK assassination? Are you excited? And what do you think of what's come out?
Shannon The Dude
What?
Ryan Lemond
Has anything come out?
Shannon The Dude
I don't think so. Not yet.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I think you're gonna. We're gonna end up finding out it's.
Shannon The Dude
Like, what we thought it was.
Ryan Lemond
Well, it's just not as cool as people think. And then they'll go, well, then they're not really showing it. Like, you know what I mean? Like, people like you, they're conspiracy theorists. Nothing can stop a conspiracy theory because when you give people the truth, they just don't believe it's the truth, and they just assume they're so, like, so.
Shannon The Dude
What'S the conspiracy on the jfk? Who shot. Who shot him?
Ryan Lemond
I mean, there are a million conspiracies, right? There's like, it was the CIA, it was the Russians, it was the Cubans. It was. I mean, basically anything. The Mafia, basically anything that it was not Lee Harvey Oswald.
Shannon The Dude
So when this comes out, we should know a definitive answer.
Ryan Lemond
I mean.
Shannon The Dude
I mean, in theory, that's what I'm.
Ryan Lemond
Saying is, all right, let's say you believe in a conspiracy theory and then the government says, here's the real truth, and people still won't believe. I mean, like, when you want to believe a conspiracy theory, you're just going to believe it.
Shannon The Dude
People are going to believe what they want.
Ryan Lemond
People are going like, so if you're one of these people who doesn't believe the government, then I don't know why. When the government releases information that's going to make you believe.
Shannon The Dude
We have pictures of a man on the moon and people say that's.
Ryan Lemond
People don't believe it. The government give you everything they want about a man on the moon, and there'll still be people. Rest in peace, Jared Lorenz. And they'll say the man on the moon was not real. Like, there's nothing you can do for that.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, there's people that are going to see these documents and think the government changed them to still hide secrets and things. There's no way around it.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I mean, so I. So is it interesting? Yeah, I mean, I'm sure there'll be something that comes out that's interesting, but I don't know that it'll change anything.
Evan
I'll tell you what's going to come out of it. We're going to have a lot of experts. There's going to be thousands of experts on get ready. Everyone that has any of those accounts is going to know everything that happened.
Ryan Lemond
I'm amazed how smart people have become in recent years that I didn't realize cared about things as much as. I mean people have become really smart. Like I love them. They're people I went to school with who I never saw open a book and now they are smart and I really appreciate that. Of what they've been able to accomplish. Skyline announced. They are putting out. They are combining with graders to put out Skyline ice cream.
Shannon The Dude
Three way ice cream.
Ryan Lemond
I don't know. Now let me just say I love Sky. I mean I love Skyline. I'm like at the head of the line of fandom and I really like graters ice cream. But I don't know if I think those two things, Ryan, would go well together. I'm not sure that those are two great tastes that would go great together.
Drew Franklin
This is gross.
Matt Jones
I mean, this is nasty.
Shannon The Dude
Well, it doesn't mean they're mixing it together, does it?
Ryan Lemond
I mean, yeah, I mean, it's a Skyline flavor. Like it's a flavor of ice cream.
Shannon The Dude
Chili flavored ice cream.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, it's a flavor of ice cream.
Drew Franklin
Would you put a big hunk of ice cream in your bowl of chili and then eat that?
Ryan Lemond
No, it's gross. It's nasty.
Evan
I can't wait to eat it. I'm eating it. Name one bad graders flavor. Thank you. It will be delicious.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I mean they said it'll be like a cinnamon spice. So if I told you cinnamon spice ice cream, you might be like, well, that sounds good.
Evan
There's not going to be noodles and raw onions in it.
Shannon The Dude
It's a flavor of ice cream on top.
Ryan Lemond
I don't know.
Evan
I'm getting it.
Ryan Lemond
I mean, I'm gonna try it, but.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, as long as they throw in the oyster crackers, that makes it for me.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, if they put the hot sauce.
Shannon The Dude
Now, would you be there on Valentine's Day this year? You went last year, right?
Ryan Lemond
Valentine's Day's what, a Friday night?
Evan
Yeah, I was gonna say the February 14th.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, probably. It's probably gonna be Friday night. Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
White tablecloth.
Ryan Lemond
Good chance. I'll a good chance. I'll be there. Who's up next?
Evan
Dalton is up next.
Ryan Lemond
Dalton. Go ahead, Dalton. It was embarrassing that year when it was all couples and me sitting there. I'm not gonna lie.
Evan
Don't go ahead.
Caller
Hey, appreciate taking your call. I love it when all four y'all are on location. It's a lot better show, and it makes me forget that Rick's gonna answer the phone and I get the wine and dine and KSR prime time.
Shannon The Dude
And Rick.
Ryan Lemond
Wow. How about that, Rick? Yeah, Rick Smick's busy. Go ahead, sir.
Caller
You don't yet let the man work. He's cooking. I had a lot of things to say, but I'm gonna break it down to two because you've made me think of new things. First thing is the Draft Kings. You're missing a golden opportunity to throw some love towards Tyler Childers. The Draft Kings. The crowns all yours.
Ryan Lemond
That's actually funny. I enjoyed that even if nobody else said. Well, one person did, but go ahead.
Caller
But. And then I have an unpopular opinion. You totally changed my call. Skyline. I've only had it once, and just like Drew is not gonna. Or Shannon's not gonna watch and hate Star Wars. Skyline is the worst. It tastes like white trash Christmas. If you open a trailer to a Christmas morning.
Ryan Lemond
I think white trash Christmas would be awesome, actually. What are you talking about? I appreciate the call. Like, who wouldn't. Like, who wouldn't want to be around the food? First of all, Scott, I don't want to hear any skylights later. I just don't know about the ice cream. Who's next?
Evan
Otis is up next.
Ryan Lemond
Otis, how are you?
Shannon The Dude
Otis, take a breath.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, here we go.
Caller
I'm doing great. How about yourself, gentlemen?
Ryan Lemond
All right, Otis. Ready? I've turned on the engine. Go for it.
Caller
I ain't gonna do all that. I was just gonna say I'm proud of Mark. Mark Pope and what he's doing. I'm proud of Stoops of the recruits he's doing post. Doing a hell of a job. And one thing I want to say, great thing we didn't get that Caleb Williams. Sometimes it's a gift and a curse. And that was a blessing because he may be demanding more time, demanding more money. And we could use that money and resources for other players that want to be here. We don't want no player that's a finicky. We want to play that want to be here like the rest of players out here. Sometimes you get cast off and it works. And this.
Evan
This Year.
Caller
I think Pope is going to get the players that want to be here, as he got the players now, and we're going to be great. Things go blue, and everything's going to be all right.
Don't cry.
Ryan Lemond
There we go. Wow.
Drew Franklin
Good call.
Ryan Lemond
Well, it's Caleb Wilson, not Williams, but otherwise, I thought that was true. Do you think in the end, in today's college basketball, you're better off not getting a guy you pay $2 million to and using it elsewhere? Or do you still think you would have wanted him if that ends up happening?
Evan
I think it varies with Kentucky, though. We've seen Mark Pope likes a very specific person for each spot on the court. He's got his roles he wants. I trust he'll be able to find something. I really wanted Wilson just for the recruiting win, and he's going to be very good. But, you know, times have changed, and if you lose your big target in high school, it's not the end of the world. There's a lot of other options. One thing I heard with him is he really liked how North Carolina kind of said, you're going to be the guy. I mean, we can't hear and talk about how we love all these dudes that sit here and say they play for the front. And I'm not trying to make him sound like he has a bad attitude, but if that's one of the things he really liked about Carolina, maybe, maybe that is where it needs to be. Who knows?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. I mean, you may be right. If you look at the roster next year, we're probably going to get Brandon Garrison back. Hopefully. Kirk Reese is apparently likely to apply. If he doesn't come back, do a medical. Red shirt is a way.
Evan
Possible draft grade.
Ryan Lemond
So those are three people that could come back. Then you take the other three freshmen, obviously still have Trent Noah and Travis Perry and Colin Chandler. And then now you can go get two or three guys in the portal. Pick the position that you want. I'm okay with it. I mean, I'd like to have had him. I don't want to sound like, oh, I didn't want him. Which is what people do when you don't get a guy. But. But you can make it work.
Drew Franklin
Right now, it is a good mix. You got three returning, three freshmen, three recruits.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Now you can go to the transfer portal and get the guys you need to fill the holes to fit your system.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. For me, I want to go see them. They'll have to do this in the portal. Now they do need to go get a stud, right? In the same way that we've sort of said, do we have a dude on this team? That's my only worry for next year. You're going to have to go get a dude. But in the portal they're built, there'll be a couple dudes, right? There'll be a couple dudes that are dudes. I don't know how many times I can say that word. So you gotta. We're just gonna have to get one, and that's. We'll have a lot of money for it, so hopefully we can make it happen. Hey, thank you all very much for coming out here to Don Franklin Auto. Thanks to Don Franklin Auto for always being such a great partner. Tomorrow, our pregame show starts at noon. You can come watch the game at the bar. I would suggest get there early to get your spot. Should be a great atmosphere. Let's go beat the doors. See you at noon. This has been Kentucky sports rad.
Kentucky Sports Radio (KSR) Episode Summary – January 24, 2025
Host and Crew:
Discussion on AFC and NFC Championships
The crew delves into the upcoming AFC and NFC championship games, focusing on the matchup between the Washington Commanders and the Philadelphia Eagles. A significant highlight is the performance of rookie quarterback Jaden Daniels for the Commanders.
Ryan Lemond expresses confidence in the Commanders covering the spread:
“I'm a bet on the commanders because I think either. I think it's toss up and the commanders are getting six and a half points. So if it's a toss up and I get six and a half, I'm going to take it.” (02:33)
Drew Franklin sides with the Eagles, citing their recent victory and overall team strength:
“Man, they got that huge win last weekend winning at Detroit. A team I thought was super bowl bound for sure. Now they got to go to Philly. Gonna be tough to win that one. I'm gonna take Philly.” (02:24)
Shannon "The Dude" remains optimistic about the Commanders despite Ryan’s initial skepticism, ultimately leaning towards supporting Washington:
“I would pull for any team over the Eagles. I'm going to go with the commanders. Let’s go. Washington. Hopefully they make the super bowl and I would love to actually see them win the Super Bowl.” (03:57)
Mahomes and the Chiefs' Dominance
The discussion shifts to the Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, with Ryan highlighting Mahomes' potential legacy:
“Mahomes is going to retire likely as the best quarterback of all time. It's either going to be him or Brady when his career is over.” (05:16)
However, opinions differ on whether the Chiefs will maintain their unbeaten streak in the championship game, with Evan forecasting a Bills' victory:
“I'm rooting for the Bills really hard, but I just can't pick against Kansas City...” (05:58)

Ryan Lemond discusses the impact of NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) and the role of TJ Bisner in Wilson’s recruitment:
“TJ Bisner, who started on the KSR blog as a volunteer writer, is now in charge of Nil at North Carolina and steals a recruit from Kentucky.” (07:59)
Shannon "The Dude" empathizes with the challenge Bisner faces:
“Imagine, though, being a lifelong Kentucky fan, and then your job goes against your heart and you gotta recruit against Kentucky.” (10:17)
Strategies Moving Forward
The crew discusses potential strategies for Kentucky to fill the void left by Wilson’s commitment, emphasizing the importance of leveraging the transfer portal and focusing on recruiting versatile players to fit Mark Pope’s system.
“We have three returning, three freshmen, three recruits. Now you can go to the transfer portal and get the guys you need to fill the holes to fit your system.” (41:53)
Cal’s Decline in Fan Relations
A caller addresses the negative shift in attitudes from Cal, particularly when the team starts underperforming.
Caller shares frustrations:
“When it started, the talking down to fans and acting like we're idiots, that’s when I think it really started turning south.” (11:10)
Ryan Lemond and Drew Franklin agree, citing Cal’s consistent arrogance regardless of the team's performance:
“Well, I think there's a lot of truth to that. Like, you can be arrogant when you're winning.” (12:53)
Impact on Team Morale
The hosts reflect on how Cal’s demeanor during winning times masked underlying issues, leading to strained relationships with fans as performance waned.
