It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live in Louisville. Risky Thief. Listen to that. Here we go. Whiskey Thief. A tool used to pull whiskey out of a barrel and a great distillery here in Kentucky. They've become a great partner of ours over the years and we thank them for being, being a part of it. Thank you guys. Whiskey Thief. I'm making this a regular thing here and at the other distillery. Been awesome.
Drew Franklin
How about Walt picking this day too? What a perfect time to have a remote.
Matt Jones
I was. Perfect day. Although yesterday about noon I was like, I'm gonna have to tell him I can't come. And I'm gonna be because I've had to miss one of yours before and I didn't want to but. But we got here this morning. We're ready to go.
Shannon The Dude
Great crowd here too. We always get a good crowd, but they're extra hot today. Excited for the show.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Let's talk about what tomorrow's gonna be like. I mean, first of all, we, you know, the game's not till 9:00, but I got a feeling the city's gonna be kind of buzzing all day. You know, people are asking me about watching the game. All right, so here's the deal. I would say if you want to come, here's what I ask that you don't do. Please don't show up at my bar at 1:00 and stay to the game. I'm not going to kick you out, but like don't do that to the people there because you know, they make their money off tips. Come for the pre game and then everybody clears out and goes to the game and that's when you come to watch the game. Game. So like everybody by the game's at 9. Everybody be out of there by 7:30, 7, 45, then show up and go to the. Go to the game. I do think it's going to be wild in there tomorrow. I think it's going to be wild in downtown Lexington and the game being at 9:00 in Rup Arena. Ryan, it's going to be drunk. It's going to be, it's going to be drunk.
Drew Franklin
I highly, highly advise if you're going to the game, go early because traffic and parking is going to be a zoo and you want to be there early to see the introduction. That's part of the, the environment tomorrow night of the entertainment.
Super Dave
You know, drunk people love to boo people. So I'm just saying if we're talking about booing.
Matt Jones
If you're talking about booing the drunk or the more booey.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, they did Cal so wrong with none. As soon as the schedule came out last October, it was like, oh no. I mean he has to sit there all day and wait. Probably at the little Hyatt next door. Maybe he'll get around a little bit, but he has to wait for that. And then the crowd is just going to be, as you're saying, so drunk. It's gon worse. If it had been noon, it would be a good crowd, but it wouldn't have been as bad. He could have gotten right to it, gotten home. It's the worst case scenario for him.
Matt Jones
W vers writes Matt, are you going to be embarrassed if they actually get applause yesterday and the crowd loves cow? Well, no, I mean, I won't be embarrassed. I, I think that first of all, I think booing would not be disrespect. That's what you do to opposing coaches. And if he were to get cheered, that'd be an amazing amount of respect. I would argue it's more respect than probably the fan base even feels for him. They're almost doing it because they're nice people. Contrary to what a lot of folks believe, I think our fan base is pretty nice. But no, I mean, I wouldn't be upset about it. I'd be a little surprised if it's overwhelming. Cheers. But it could be. I, I do think it's gonna be more positive than I thought it was going to be a week ago. Like a week ago I thought booze are gonna win out now. Just seems like the, there's a bit of mood amongst some people of let's be classy and let's, you know all the things you hate.
Super Dave
I don't see any like any of the donors, like the big money o people booing. You think they would boom.
Matt Jones
Some of the donors cost A lot.
Shannon The Dude
Of money go yesterday, but now they're.
Super Dave
Giving their money to Pope instead of him. So.
Matt Jones
No, I mean, I think don't. The donor class, though, was a class he lost before he lost the average fan. Yeah, Donor class has been out on him for years.
Super Dave
Well, then if they're going to boom, then everybody will.
Matt Jones
I mean, I. You know, we'll find out. Meyer Metcalf put out the five most important moments of the Cal Kentucky era. Okay, let's see what you think. Number one, the first year, basically arguing Cal Perry, make Kentucky cool again with John Wall. All the celebrities that come through. DeMarcus, Jay Z, Samuel L. Jackson, Shaq, Shaquille O'Neal, LeBron all 10 games. Drake, that was number one. I think that's probably right. Yeah. I think the 2010 team was just huge for changing the program, and he.
Shannon The Dude
Did that without a transfer portal. I mean, it's impressive what Pope did, but Cal did that when you just had to get high school kids and still fix Kentucky basketball.
Matt Jones
He had second, 2012 and 2015. Basically calling that era the era of Kentucky dominance, which I would agree. Two of those four years, we had two of the best college teams ever. One of them didn't win, but those are two of the best modern college basketball teams. Third, evolving landscape cost Kentucky its grip on elite talent. Basically says Duke starts going after elite players as well. Cal get all the one and dones. And then his recruiting slips some years not even getting any top 10 players. You agree with that?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I do. I mean, I remember going to the Peach Jam with you early in the Cal era and kids were like Kansas, Duke or Kentucky. But then as time went on, they start going to Alabama. They start going everywhere. It's like more people just got involved on going for the five stars instead of surrendering them.
Matt Jones
Number four. Interesting enough, he says Cal loses a connection with the fan base. I actually agree with that. Yeah. It's interesting for a national guy to say. And then number five, a loss to Oakland and other and fans basically giving up on his style. Would you agree with those five is the five most important?
Super Dave
I like that. Yeah. I mean, there was definitely a disconnect. I think that happened sometime around Covid for, you know, that. That 9 and 16 season and then, Yeah, I mean, losing to Oakland and St. Peter's I think those were the two last, you know, nails in the coffin for Calipari here.
Shannon The Dude
He didn't mention the record draft picks. Was that not the best? I don't think it was the best day ever.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I don't think that was one of them. I. There. There'll be a few moments, Ryan, of. Of when I'm done doing this, that I'll think about what the environment was like in that particular moment. And a handful of mine coincide with these eras. If you just were saying what were the moments felt the strongest again, unless you were there. The pre game of that 2010 and 2012 Carolina Games, there was just a feeling of big time basketball is back in Kentucky. And that's great. Obviously the feeling on the floor when we won the title, you know what it was like when we lost in 2015 to Wisconsin. But I don't know that there's going to be many things, Drew. I remember more than standing on that court as they walked what lost to Oakland, and me saying to you right before it was over, let's go over here and watch this, because this is. This might be it. And the way fans were screaming at Cal, I mean, just these random people in Pittsburgh just screaming at him and him looking dazed. And it was just. You were like, is this how it's going to end? And then it did.
Shannon The Dude
It's even worse because a week before we saw a lesser version. Yeah, fewer people, but that was shocking. Like, wow, they are booing Cal in Nashville in an arena that's 95% blue. Wasn't everybody? It was right at the tunnel. But then it was much worse in Oakland. I remember fans pointing us like a minute left, we're standing there watching and they're like, he's got to go, he's got to go. And then the moment he came to that tunnel, they were just giving it to him.
Matt Jones
The, you know, the hour between when that game ended or maybe hour and a half in the post game show. This is not an exaggeration. In the arena. And then as I walked trying to figure out where I was going to do the post game show, every single Kentucky fan I saw said, you gotta call for him to get fired. He's gotta go, he's gotta go. Text messages from friends of mine's like, now's the time, now's the time. You gotta say it. Get him out. Get him out. It was like, it took a week and a half more, Shannon, but it was over at that moment.
Super Dave
Yeah. It would have been tough for you to do that, though, with the NCAA tournament coming up the next week.
Matt Jones
No, no, he's. No, I'm talking about it was Pittsburgh.
Super Dave
Oh, that. At that moment, though.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Super Dave
I mean, I think everybody was in that same boat of we gotta get rid of them.
Matt Jones
Who' Zach is up next. Zach. Go ahead, Zach.
Shannon The Dude
Hey, guys.
Matt Jones
What's going on?
Caller
First time.
Matt Jones
Who are. What's up?
Caller
I'm actually currently working, which, if you don't know, crosses into Harlem County. Shout out.
Matt Jones
Yes. Mountain Mamba. I like it. Not sweet. Sweet Mountain angel, baby. We're gonna go with Mountain mama.
Super Dave
Oh, come on.
Caller
I've got a few. What's your thoughts on the video that a dude put out? Friends with everybody on the team. Number two want some applause? I think comes out before the team that we can boo him when he's announced as the Arkansas head Coach. And number three, does Pope bring out 2? 3 tomorrow?
Matt Jones
Bring out what?
Super Dave
Defense.
Caller
What? You guys?
Matt Jones
Yeah, Pope doesn't seem to want to play a ton of zone either. He plays a little bit. What?
Shannon The Dude
What?
Matt Jones
What did the dude say?
Shannon The Dude
I've got to be honest, I didn't hear much of that call. Was that muffled for you all?
Matt Jones
It was. What did it do? Say? He said, dude did do a press conference yesterday. What did he say?
Drew Franklin
One thing. He said, well, he loved his time in Kentucky and he has nothing but great things to remember about in Kentucky.
Matt Jones
I wish to do it stayed here. We could use it.
Shannon The Dude
SEC basketball.
Matt Jones
That's like. That's a dude we don't have. We could. We could use a dude like that.
Shannon The Dude
He went to SEC basketball media days last summer. First appearance in Arkansas gear. KSR were down there, interviewed him. It is, like, sad. Like, you could tell. He's like, how did I end up in this? Like, it's honestly hard to watch him talking about Kentucky in the change. He didn't know how to explain it.
Matt Jones
Yeah. By the way, are we wearing denim tomorrow? Have we heard? Like, this has all gotten long. Are we doing. What are we doing?
Shannon The Dude
I heard we got the firecrackers.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Shannon The Dude
It's a big game.
Super Dave
Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
I don't know about denim, though.
Drew Franklin
They've been hush hush about it. So I don't know.
Matt Jones
I feel like we might see some tomorrow. I'm not sure. I just. Just. We'll see. Who's next? Garrett is up next. Garrett. Go ahead, Garrett. Hey, guys.
Caller
I just wanted to say that I'll.
Matt Jones
Be at the game tomorrow and I'll be booming.
Caller
I cannot forget now for what he.
Matt Jones
Did with last year's team. And I think it's annoying that anybody.
Caller
Wants to cheer the man when he's announced.
Matt Jones
They aren't going to say.
Caller
And former coach of Kentucky, John Caliperi. They're going to say Razorbacks coach John Caliperi, Saturday is not the day to cheer. And I will boot as loud as I can. If anyone cheers Cal, then I expect them to cheer Pope and RP so loud that my eardrums first. Thanks, guys.
Ryan Seacrest
And go cast.
Matt Jones
There you go. Well, there's the strong voice. Now listen to all y'all clapping. Hang on just a sec. Every single one of you, not one of you said you would boo. And then you all clap when that guy says he was gonna boo.
Super Dave
Well, nobody going to the game.
Matt Jones
That's just interesting to me. Like, it just shows the power of a good. A good speech and a good leader. Right? Like, everybody was like, I don't think we should boo. Then one guy goes, let's boo. Boo. And everybody's like, yeah, boo.
Drew Franklin
I think he. He did bring up a good point of the fact though. When they announce our guys, though, you should blow the roof off, you know, make it just deafening loud in there. When they announce Mark Pope.
Matt Jones
Well, no, that's.
Shannon The Dude
Pope's going to pop.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Pope's going to get like a Steve Austin. Yeah. Like it's going to be. It's going to be like glass shatter pop with poke.
Super Dave
And it's a lot different saying what you would do here versus in the moment when it actually happens. You know what I mean? Like in that moment, you know, mob.
Matt Jones
Mentality, you don't know.
Super Dave
Exactly.
Matt Jones
You don't know what you're going to do. You. You like a lot of that, by the way. I think that happens to people. Like, you just kind of get caught up and next thing you know, wait, I'm booing a child. What am I doing right now?
Super Dave
Your section's booing. All of a sudden you're like, yeah, boo.
Matt Jones
That kid Ryan's at a children's game telling a 7 year old to shut their mouth. Like you. You never really know what's gonna happen. Who's next? Sherry is next. Sherry. Go ahead, Sherry.
Caller
Hey, I wondered, are they gonna show like on the network, will they show if the booing and all that?
Matt Jones
Well, okay.
Caller
So.
Matt Jones
Well, normally they miss the start of games, but they did build an extra 30 minutes between the Duke Carolina game and the Kentucky game. Game. So Duke Carolina actually starts at 6:30 and our game starts at 9. And maybe, who knows, maybe they built that in to be able to show the announcements or maybe just because they didn't want them to go long. But you know, and I appreciate the call, this is like historically, this is the weekend where college basketball sort of announces to the world, we're Back, Right. Like this is the rivalry week. Yeah. I mean, this. But this is the first Saturday and Sunday with no football. Right, right. So they basically say, all right, we're back. And then there's no. It's not a surprise that if you go look at the schedule that's on ESPN tomorrow, it's like North Carolina at noon, Kansas at 4, or, excuse me, like Auburn at noon or whatever, Kansas at 4, Duke, Carolina at 6, 30, and then Kentucky at 9. Like that's why they do it. And with Carolina stinking, everybody's gonna be watching to see what happens with, with Kentucky. And plus, we're gonna get huge lead in. This is gonna be a huge audience for the game because you got. We're, we're both after Duke, Carolina. Normally Duke, Carolina is the whole thing. We're after it. So we're gonna get that lead in. It's gonna be wild.
Super Dave
And I don't care what Seth Greenberg says. He says that Kentucky and Arkansas fans are going to be the only ones paying attention to this. I think if you're a college basketball fan, you're watching this game.
Matt Jones
I think what Seth Greenberg has ensured is that no one's going to be paying attention to him.
Drew Franklin
Is once you.
Shannon The Dude
Get that pop there, I'm just saying. Well, I, I want to add that on that.
Matt Jones
Don't need any more Seth Green.
Shannon The Dude
But imagine working for ESPN and saying the game doesn't matter. I would call him in the office, be like, dude, this is on our network. You weren't supposed to promote them telling people it doesn't matter.
Matt Jones
Yeah, game doesn't matter. I'm Seth Green. Like, that's why he shouldn't be on game day. Think about the people who go to football game day. Corso loves the sport. Herb street loves it. McAfee, for all his goobernish, he loves it. But they all love it and they're into it. And then you get Seth Greenberg just yelling, nobody cares. Just have. The game is supposed to be fun. How loud do you think it gets? Is it one of our loudest crowds? No doubt, without question, this will be, this will be as good a pre game atmosphere, you know, as we've had in, in who knows how long the actual game depends on how the game goes and all that. But as far as a pre game atmosphere, Ryan, this will be one of the best we've ever had.
Drew Franklin
Be the best since Patino came back. I mean people that were there that day, they know it was just, it was an unbelievable. You know, you hear that phrase, you hear the electricity in the air. You could feel it. You could feel it, man. As people were just anticipating Patino walking out. It'll be the same way tomorrow.
Shannon The Dude
I think Kentucky fans are going to have so much, so much anxiety and nerves that they are going to be living on every play. So we're going to get reactions to everything throughout the year.
Matt Jones
We're going to be very puckered up, I think, for.
Super Dave
Yeah, I mean, hopefully not too much.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, I, I could use some of that. But I.
Drew Franklin
Hey, tmi.
Matt Jones
But they are definitely going to be. I like this choice for the, for the. Yeah, John Roebick.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, he'll probably be there.
Shannon The Dude
He was at the last game.
Drew Franklin
You want to get it, Cal?
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's a good question. Do you think Robick will come?
Shannon The Dude
He's actually been in a lot of games because he scouts.
Matt Jones
Yeah, he'd be at this one. Yeah, there's a lot of those people in like, there's a lot of people just on a personal level that I would just would like to see. I mean, I'd like to just personally see their interaction. Yeah, you know, I'd like to, I'd like to see Mitch and Cal, like what's, I mean, what's their interaction gonna be? I mean, they'll shake hands because they're both pros, but you talk about two people be shaking hands that are seething mad at each other.
Drew Franklin
I asked you this one time, I don't remember if I asked you on the air or privately. Do you think Cal really had any idea how much the fan base had turned on him before he left.
Matt Jones
No, I know. That's why. That's why he. I've said this over and over. That video, which I. Which is going to be what my. You know, you get images in your mind of these moments. My image of him leaving was him walking his dog outside, trying to rally the fan base around him. I mean, he walked for people who don't remember, they announced he's going to Arkansas. And then there's like 24 hours of silence. He is actively trying to renegotiate with Kentucky. Kentucky is like, we're not negotiating. And he went out and he walked that dog up and down Richmond Road.
Super Dave
Didn't have it in a stroller.
Matt Jones
In a stroller. He walked it up and down because he wanted the visual of him. There just happened to be a camera There just happened to be a camera on Richmond Road following him up and down the road because he wanted there to be a. Oh, he might stay. Come on, Mitch, keep him here. And when that didn't happen, I. I think it shocked him. There's no doubt he was shocked. He, in his mind, thought Matt Jones and those goobers at KSR have this little loud group of people that are against me, but everyone else is for me. And he didn't realize that he lost the average. As I say it all the time, he lost the average fan before he lost me. I was not the Pied Piper. I was the caboose saying it's passed. And I think that was what he never realized.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. And that the. The stroller situation. Kyt had that camera out there for a while. He knew exactly. He walked towards the camera. Normally in that situation, you would have.
Matt Jones
Got out the back. Yeah, yeah.
Shannon The Dude
No, he saw that opportunity. What I can't keep quit thinking about when he gets there tomorrow. He designed a locker room that is just a celebration of 2012. But he's going in the room that has four chairs, nothing on the walls. It's not big. There's barely lockers.
Matt Jones
Well, one of the things that's going to be, you know, bigger picture culture about the program. And again, like, we didn't complain about this when it happened because we like to win. But, like, let's take the practice facility. Used to be when you went in the practice facility, most of you probably never been down there where they actually practice. You go downstairs, there's this built like this wall of players, but there's no player on the wall that didn't play for cow. None there. It's all. It's all cow people. And they used to say, well, it's because it's all our guys in the pros. But like Tayshawn Prince wouldn't be on there and Keith Bogans wouldn't be on Rondo. Josie Meeks wouldn't be on there and Rondo wouldn't be on there. It was all players that played for cow. I'm going to guess if that hasn't been changed. It will be changed and it will be players from all the area. You'll still probably have more recent ones because that helps in recruiting, but it's not. But there was a time that if you didn't play for Cal, there was no obvious proof that you went to the school at the practice facility. I think that part is going to be is a huge change.
Shannon The Dude
Well, it didn't take 24 hours to Pope to rip those cards off the wall of all the NBA players. Now the murals that are on the walls, that's harder to do. But in the practice where it's just, you know, got the. Literally looks like a card. Those came down immediately.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it used to just be the. The practice thing had a little thing for the national championship banners and then just the NBA cards. Of all the people that played in the NBA, it wasn't even them in Kentucky jersey, it was them on their NBA jersey. And you know that that culture has shifted and it'll be weird for him to be in the visitors locker room which if you've ever been in Rupp arena, the. The home team's locker room is plush. The visits team locker room is. And he's going to for the first time be in the locker room and.
Shannon The Dude
The home is his locker. They haven't changed that yet. It is just 2012 everywhere. That is his design. I'm sure that'll get changed on down the road. But it is a celebration of that team and he doesn't get to go in there anymore.
Matt Jones
Who's next?
Shannon The Dude
Car doesn't work. Super Dave is next.
Matt Jones
Super Dave. Hello. Hey guys. I was wondering if y'all could do a shout out to my Grandson Noah, who's three today and he knows how to do.
Caller
Ls down.
Matt Jones
His dad's already taught him how to do that. Hello, Noah. Okay, the thing I want to bring.
Caller
Up is do you think there's going.
Matt Jones
To be controversy about when Butler comes back the way Robinson has kind of embraced the row of the point guard. I mean he, he seems to doesn't.
Caller
Let it bother him. But we're kind of.
Super Dave
No, I don't know.
Matt Jones
He just, I don't know because I mean, we also have to remember we won some games this year because of Butler, too. I think what will happen is, and I appreciate the call, I think we see less Travis Perry attempt minutes and basically I think if, if, if Robinson plays another game or two like he's played. Robinson at this point's a backup point guard definitely.
Shannon The Dude
And a Lamont Butler has been awesome. He's injured right now. They need him back. I hope he's back tomorrow for defense because that'll be important. But Robinson looks comfortable. But you don't want to take him off the wing and give him more. Yeah, more assignment now in the backup role. I like it. But you still want him to be Jackson Butler.
Matt Jones
It'd be nice to have Butler tomorrow because if I, if I Butler on Wagner, I know he's not going to go off on me. There's a part of me that worries that Wagner will be able to take whoever we have in but definitely need Butler.
Drew Franklin
You definitely need Butler. But you can make an argument they're better offensively with Jackson Ortega and Kobe Bray out there probably.
Shannon The Dude
And Almanor.
Matt Jones
Yeah, offensively you're probably right. We'll take a break. Be right back. KSR welcome back. Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. Text Machine 772-774-5254 Shout out to UK women's team who won last night against Alabama. Give him a round of applause. 71, 7 and 1 in conference play. They play five of their next seven games, I think are against ranked teams. Basically. They, their schedule was loaded up. They had all the easy teams first. So they've got lsu, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee and maybe Texas all still to come. And like three of those games are at home. So the meat of the schedule is coming. But they beat their first ranked team last night of the sec. They beat Alabama pretty handily at home. I watched a little bit of that game and so now we get to see, I mean, clearly Kentucky's good but like we'll know in the next few weeks how good because they're playing the elite of the SEC over the next three weeks.
Shannon The Dude
I almost went, I was going to buy a single ticket and just sit by myself and I just couldn't get over there in time but ended up watching the whole game at home. I'm so into that team. They're so fun. Alabama went up early, Kentucky was looking pretty bad. Then a 12 oh run flip the script and Kentucky ran away with it. But they're just a fun team to watch. Georgia Amore didn't shoot it well last night, but man, that's. We got Ron Howard, but she's right up there with her.
Matt Jones
I wish, I wish she was playing here more than a year. She's a lot, she is a lot of fun to watch and, and this team, man, they're, they're gonna be, they're good and they're gonna be real. Kenny Brooks is like, you just watch the way he coaches. He doesn't. Amazing.
Shannon The Dude
18 and 2.
Matt Jones
Job. One person writes. Matt, what happens for real if we lose? Well, it stinks.
Super Dave
We move on to the next game.
Matt Jones
No, I mean, it stinks. It stinks. Like we'll have to listen to. I mean, I can go ahead and tell you if we lose, don't expect to see me online for at least 48 hours.
Super Dave
Is Ryan gonna have to do the post game show?
Matt Jones
I'll do the post. Okay, but I'm just, I'm not, I'm not getting into my hog mentions. If they, if they were to lose, you know, big picture, if we lost, it would, it would be an awful loss because they're bad. But like, the Tennessee win would keep it from being what I was worried could be like a back breaking loss because you got that win against Tennessee. But you know, now Kentucky's in a situation again. Let's just do the math. We're 4 and 3. Just went at home against the three worst teams in the SEC, Arkansas, LSU and South Carolina. Now you got seven wins, right? Then you have Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, and. Who's our other home game?
Super Dave
Dandy.
Matt Jones
Vandy. Let's assume we win the Vandy game. Now you're at eight conference wins, three games against the best teams, and then you're on the road at Ole Miss, at Alabama, at Texas, at Oklahoma. Win one or two of those and you're looking at a really good record. So this is really more about just.
Shannon The Dude
Holding, sir, this game, they're in a great spot. And really, I, I don't, I'm not that worried about a loss. Not that it could happen, but it's very obvious we've already won the breakup. I mean, sure. I mean, if they win, congratulations, you still suck. Like, honestly. I mean, Mark Pope just tied the record for most top 25 wins in a regular season. And he still has four more games left where he could shatter that record. If Arkansas wins that 24 hours online, we'll have to eat a lot of crow. I won't get to eat the nuggets. I'm excited to cook. That won't be fun. But on Monday, Kentucky is still so much farther ahead of Arkansas with excitement that oh well, congratulations. It sucked for us on Sunday, but yeah, we're going to go continue to be excited about our season.
Matt Jones
I saw online that Kentucky's SEC schedule from here out is the easiest of any team left in the ACC or sec, which basically means we've, we're four and three with the hardest schedule of any of the teams that we've played so far. Now we still have, I mean our draw made it to where we play two of the best team best teams in the SEC twice. We get Alabama and Tennessee. So you know, it is what it is. But nevertheless, I, I, I'm kind of with Drew. It would stink to lose, but we're still in pretty we just never really.
Shannon The Dude
Saw this scenario until SEC play started. No one thought they would be this down.
Super Dave
Would you still take nine and nine though, like you did last week before the Tennessee game?
Matt Jones
But I'm glad I didn't take it. Yeah, I, I, I think we're gonna, I, I genuinely think we're gonna finish 10 and 8. I just have that, I think we're gonna lose. I think we'll lose at Tennessee or, excuse me, we already we won. I think we're going to lose at Alabama. I think we're going to lose at least one of those home games against Tennessee, Alabama and Auburn. And then at Ole Miss. I think we, I think we lose Tuesday night at Ole Miss.
Drew Franklin
Don't they still have to go to Missouri? Right.
Matt Jones
And then between Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri. I think we get one of those, I think, I think these road games, I don't know why it is we win the hardest ones and lose the other ones. I just think these road games are all hard.
Shannon The Dude
I really, I know Auburn's on the schedule, Tennessee, but I look at the games you just named Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Ole Miss. That can decide everything because all of those, the spread is going to be like a point or two. They're all on the road. They're all beatable teams. If you can split those, heck, if you can win three out of four, that'll be a normal.
Matt Jones
I'd take a split right now. You gave me a split in those four. I'd take a split right now because I think with a split, you're a top four seed in the NCAA Tournament. If you split Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas and Ole Miss on the road, win two, you're a top four seed in the tournament. And then those are all Quad One wins, too. Those. Those. You're right. Those are the games left for the rest of the year. Who's next? Dan is up next. Dan. Go ahead, Dan.
Caller
Hey, Matt. I would argue if you're drunk, you're not more booey, you're more boozy. I know, it's awful.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it was. It was worse than you think.
Drew Franklin
I didn't hear what he said.
Shannon The Dude
Did you hear?
Super Dave
It wasn't worth hearing.
Matt Jones
All right. I appreciate the call.
Shannon The Dude
Not call.
Matt Jones
Today you get. You get one miserable joke and then we move on. Who's next? Luke is up next. Luke. Go ahead, Luke.
Caller
Hey, Matt, guys. Just wanted to say with this whole how big kiss, do nothing thing, I am booing this man. To hell with John Calipari. This guy lost to Oakland and St. Peter. And did we forget that this guy got out coached by Kevin Ollie in a national title game? I mean, come on. This guy had more talent than anybody in the history of college basketball for 10 years and got a whole one title out of it. What a dud. The most overrated coach in the history of college basketball is John Caliperi. And unfortunately, he was ours. So screw John Calipari. I can't stand him. He was arrogant as hell.
Matt Jones
He doesn't appreciate the call.
Shannon The Dude
There's a little much that's.
Matt Jones
There's one side of the argument.
Drew Franklin
There's some people on that side.
Matt Jones
All these people, not one person said they would boo. And I saw some people shaking their head yes on that. It's all. It's all about. All about how it's articulated. By the way, Kentucky did get four all stars in the NBA All Star Game last night. Anthony, that's great. Anthony Davis, you probably would have guessed. Carl Towns has made it. Shay Gilous Alexander has made it. But then for the very first time, Tyler Hero was named an All Star last night. There's video of him pacing. He looked like me, Shannon watching a UK basketball game. He was like. He had his. Literally, except for his shorts were weighed longer than I would wear, but he had his. He had his hoodie on over his head and he was just walking back and forth like this when they were going to announce. And then when they hit it, he just started doing. And I was like, man, that's me during the games. And it in theory is. Should matter much less to me than you making the all.
Super Dave
I'm happy for him, though. Yeah. First time and well deserved this year.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I do like that he cared. Like, they always try to act like they don't care, but he could tell.
Shannon The Dude
He could very much care. I got to show how little I know the NBA. I didn't realize that he was having that special of a season. I knew he was doing, doing well, but I didn't know it was an all star type year. That was huge for him. Did anyone think when he committed here, his 30th prospect or whatever, you'd seen the NBA All Star one day he.
Matt Jones
And Shay Gilgis Alexander. Think about it. Those dudes weren't even McDonald's all Americans. And he came and you know when people make the argument Cal never developed players, those are two guys that make a pretty good argument that he did. He could do that with the right dudes. Who's next? Peggy is next. Peggy. Go ahead, Peggy.
Caller
Hey, guys. Good morning.
Matt Jones
Good morning.
Caller
He said that Ellen's not coming to the game, but I have it on good authority that she is in Lexington staying in her best friend.
Matt Jones
Oh, listen, Peggy. Wait a minute. Peggy has it on good authority she's.
Shannon The Dude
Supposed to be sick.
Matt Jones
Wow. Peggy. Peggy.
Super Dave
Yep, Took me a second. Lexington.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Caller
Well, anyway, on Instagram this morning, Coach said, Coach Pope said that they are wearing that the coaching team is wearing special shoes tonight.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it's for the coaches versus Cancers Cancer shoes. They're usually designed by kids.
Caller
Yes, they are. And then they're going to auction them off after.
Matt Jones
That's very cool. Yeah, I looked at Popes. They were neat. Yeah, that's something that started. Appreciate the call. Well, Nike puts out these shoes, these Dornbachers that they take kids with terminal illness and they design them and I have a couple pairs of them. And now that's extending to the world of coaches as a whole. And so some kid in Kentucky, I think each design the shoes the coaches will wear. I think that's a real, really neat thing. Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
I mean, years they've done coaches versus cancer forever and they'd wear sneakers. But just recently started letting the kids actually hand paint the shoes. And I think that's so cool. Imagine just being a little kid, you're painting there in your room and you look up on TV and Mark Pope's wearing it on the sideline. That's got to be awesome for all of them.
Matt Jones
It is awesome. And you know, I think in the article on the athletic today about Pope, it talked about. Seems like every day he's doing another something absurdly. Yeah, right. Like who? I mean, it seemed in terms of good deeds he couldn't seemingly do more. Tell me about Stockton Mortgage.
Drew Franklin
Stockton Mortgage. Can I read my read? I got for today.
Shannon The Dude
We probably should.
Matt Jones
That's what we say.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Shannon The Dude
That's probably what they're not.
Super Dave
You're not ready. Right.
Matt Jones
You're stalling.
Super Dave
Basically. You can't get this phone to turn on. That droid won't even. Come on.
Drew Franklin
Heck with it.
Shannon The Dude
You got it.
Drew Franklin
Stockton Morgan. Oh, now it's on. Oh, my goodness.
Matt Jones
You know what time of show I'm gonna do that? I always have you do it in the 11:30 hour. Wondering if after 15 years you might remember. Come on.
Drew Franklin
Now it comes on.
Matt Jones
Get ready to put it away. If you don't say something quick. I'm going to break Stockton Mortgage.
Drew Franklin
If you guys looking to buy this year, build this year, cash out, refinance, build a deck on the back of your house. Stockton Mortgage should be your first phone call. They're easy to work with. They're all across Kentucky. They have Stockton Mortgage right here in Louisville. Give them a call. You won't be disappointed. Stockton Mortgage NMLS 8259/equal housing lender stockton.com.
Super Dave
They got their money's worth today. I got a lot of stalling.
Drew Franklin
I got a really good read. I'll save it for Monday.
Shannon The Dude
They probably wanted you to read that.
Matt Jones
Yeah, yeah. Save it for the future.
Drew Franklin
For Monday.
Matt Jones
Take a break. Be right back. This is ksr.

Thank you folks for a great crowd here today in Louisville. By the way, they say, Shannon, it just came out that the, the, like you said, the helicopter was flying in the wrong place and the one person in the whatever was doing two jobs.
Super Dave
That's the crazy thing to me is that, that, you know, for a job that important, you get one person trying to do two people's jobs.
Matt Jones
Yeah. One person was supposed to do planes and one helicopter and they were left to have to do both.
Super Dave
Yeah, that's, that's not good at all. That's got a whole, I mean, you know, people's lives lost because of that.
Matt Jones
Can't do that. 859-280-2287. Couple other things real quick. Maxwell Hairston named the MVP of Senior Bowl Defensive players practice so far down in the Senior Bowl. How about our guy mate now they're saying may have played his way into A first round pick.
Drew Franklin
You know, we kind of got cheated, he got hurt. Didn't play at this much this season, but obviously they knew going into the season he was going to be a high draft pick. And now he's improved his stock even more with what he's been doing down there.
Matt Jones
Dion Walker's kind of like gotten himself into shape. What happens, Drew, if after that terrible football season, we have two players going to first round?
Shannon The Dude
I mean, Dumas Johnson might not be first round, but he'll be up there high too. It's going to stink, especially with the secondary thing because it's looking like Harrison's gonna have a good spot in the NFL. We're going to be looking at Carrington, Valentine, Andrew Phillips, Max Harrison, all with starting roles in the NFL in the years they played here. That defense. Well, he was, he was a part of some good teams. I mean, we're going to see NFL players that we didn't get as much out as we wanted here in Lexington, even though Harrison had a great year two years ago.
Matt Jones
And can I quickly say, will you say I was right on the drones?
Super Dave
Yeah. Well, what was the latest that came out on it? That it wasn't drone. It was.
Matt Jones
It was just.
Super Dave
It was.
Matt Jones
They were all approved and it was.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, sure.
Super Dave
I mean, I didn't take a strong stance on that.
Matt Jones
Pretty pro. Like we're being invaded by.
Super Dave
I don't think that might have been more Drew than me on this.
Shannon The Dude
I was worried what they're looking for.
Super Dave
Yeah, that.
Matt Jones
Well, sure.
Super Dave
It was drone.
Matt Jones
Okay. I just, I did. I told. I told you not to worry about it. You were worried about it. Who's up next?
Super Dave
Till next time when it's actually aliens.
Matt Jones
Josh is up next. Josh. Go ahead, Josh. All right, guys, got two quick things.
Caller
First off, I think everyone misunderstood Cal. It wasn't that he.
Matt Jones
He knows that Ellen isn't going to come.
Caller
It's just he hasn't seen her. And then the other thing is he was always famous for at least one time every season he would get ejected from a game.
Matt Jones
If you think that's this game Drew does.
Shannon The Dude
But slated for a month. Well, I want odds on it. I'll bet on it right now. I mean, he can't just go out and get ejected, but if they're getting beat bad, I would not be shocked if he goes looking for it.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, you know, I heard the guys on Field of 68 last night said we're going to tell how much Arkansas's players like how about how hard they play this game, like, do they want him to be embarrassed or not? Which I thought was kind of an interesting point. Like, if you really have a lot of pride in your coach, you know how much this one will mean for him. So you would probably give, like, that extra ounce of effort. Who's next?
Drew Franklin
Tammy is next.
Matt Jones
Tammy. Go ahead, Tammy. By the way, this is also a Jackson Robbins. Hang on, Tammy. Hang on, Tammy. Hang on, Tammy.
Caller
I love you.
Matt Jones
Hang on. All right, it doesn't matter.
Caller
Oh, sorry.
Matt Jones
It's also a Jackson Robinson return game. Yeah. Like, Jackson Robinson played it bad memory. It did not go and did not like he. So apparently he. His Arkansas time was brutally terrible. So in, you know, for everybody else, this is a cow game. In Jackson Robinson's mind, this is a different game. So he may have that exact same incentive just in a different way. Go ahead, Tammy.
Caller
Okay, I just want to say, if you guys are on the air, I am listening, everybody. I love me some Matt Jones show.
Matt Jones
Thank you.
Caller
Here's my point, so you're welcome. Nobody has mentioned this. This is a rhetorical question. I'll go fast. Why would any Big Blue fan want to boo Calipari? I have another plan.
Matt Jones
Hang on a second. Who said that? Over there. Somebody was agreed. Was it you? Okay, go ahead, Tammy. Say, what's your plan?
Caller
Okay, my plan is they announced Calipari as the head coach for Arkansas. Everybody stands up, gives him a standing ovation, and 1, 2, 3. Thank you for leaving.
Super Dave
Oh, you're getting booed, Tammy.
Matt Jones
Wow. You know, Tammy, I, I, it's interesting. Oh, you're saying make it an ironic thinking. You like, thank you for leaving. Is that what you mean? Yeah, I, I, Irony's tough, even on phone calls, and I think it's going to be really hard to do in front of 24,000 people. But I, Tammy, I understand what you're saying. We are better off, but, well, let me just say this. Would you give him a round of applause just because you think he did well here.
Caller
Not tomorrow.
Matt Jones
Okay. All right. So. So are you going to the game, Tammy?
Caller
No.
Matt Jones
Oh, okay. I understand. Well, Tammy, thank you for listening to the show, and I appreciate your idea. I like your sort of sarcastic cynicism coming there.
Caller
Okay. Or we could say thank you and go into we love Pope. We love Pope.
Matt Jones
Thank you. Love it. There we go. So we have, We've had the spectrum. We've had boo as loud as you want. We've had cheer and say thank you. Let's talk about the actual game. Super Dave
I think Kentucky cover, they win. I think they cover and I think I'm gonna say 86, 71. Kentucky by 15. I'm gonna say Jackson Robinson has another big game tomorrow.
Matt Jones
15 would be quite a victory, right?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Super Dave
I mean, you know, you look at what Arkansas has done, a lot of their games, they're down 15, 16 points.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Super Dave
So that would be.
Matt Jones
I think this is going to be an awesome day to be in Lexington tomorrow. Our pregame show starts at 6:30 at KS Bar. Come on out and see us. I think that place is going to be fun all day. I think Lexington's going to be fun. Here's what I'd say. Whatever you decide to do, whether you boo, whether you cheer, whatever, also enjoy that this, these are kind of the good old days. Back again in terms of the the feeling that you have about this team. Tomorrow's a good turn your page moment. We've all talked a lot about Cal since he left. Honestly, especially if we win tomorrow, that page can completely turn because I do think we are much better off now than we were one year ago and for that I'm excited. I think we win tomorrow. I think tomorrow night will be a lot of fun. Be loud and Rupp Arena. Thank you folks very much here at Whiskey Thief. We appreciate you coming. Thank you guys for filling in for me yesterday.
