Nmlsconsumeraccess.Org welcome to hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back. Hour number two Kentucky Sports Radio 5025711080 text machine 772-774-5254. You're not going to believe this. The text on the text machine. Some people didn't like that last segment.
Drew Franklin
Whoa.
Matt Jones
I know it's going to surprise you. One person writes, Matt, do you care at all that 75% of Kentucky disagrees with you on your opinions? No. Because whether or not something is your opinion shouldn't depend on what everyone thinks. Anyone can jump off a cliff. You should believe what you believe regardless. If you believe one thing and you live in California and everybody's Democrat and you still believe it, you should still believe your Republican things. You shouldn't change your mind just because the majority disagrees with you. Be proud of who you sell Quote Ryan limit at one point all right they're showing Luca up here on the screen. He. He made his debut last night. Couple things thoughts about this. First of all, yellow is not a slimming color. So if you're Luca, you got to say, like, it's going to be awesome to play with the Lakers. Wish I had gotten traded to a team with a darker fit.
Drew Franklin
Maybe look better than the purple.
Matt Jones
He'll look much better in the road purple than, than in the, in the. Like you can see right there. I. I remember, you know, I've had periods of my life where I was a little bit bigger. And I remember I had an ex girlfriend once say to me, don't wear yellow. And I was like, why? And she goes, it just doesn't work for you. And I. And I noticed that with Luca last.
Ryan Lemond
Night, he should have demanded a trade to the Spurs.
Matt Jones
To wear the spurs would be great. Black is much better. Always wear black if you don't. If you don't know. Secondly, I just keep thinking about poor Mark Williams.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Okay, so Mark Williams is playing for Charlotte, gets traded to the Lakers. He's probably happy. I go from like the worst team to one of the most high profile teams. Then he gets there, I guess he fails the physical. Right. And the Lakers go, trades off. All right, now that's awkward for everybody involved. It is. Because now he's got to go back to Charlotte. Dalton connect test. And whoever went to Charlotte now has to come back to Lakers. And everybody has to act like they still love each other.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Matt Jones
Right. So. So Charlotte releases a statement yesterday that says, or two days ago that says things didn't work out with the trade. But we're so happy to have you back, Mark. Welcome back into the fold. Let's let bygones be bygones. Then yesterday, Charlotte files a complaint with the league against the Lakers saying they should have taken him. Make them take him. Right after welcoming him back, they demand the Lakers take him. I don't even know Mark Williams, but poor guy Drew, right?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. They put out a statement like, mark, buddy, good to see you. We cleaned out your locker for you. You can move back in. We just want to dust it off a bit. But then they're in the backgr. Be like, get him out of here.
Matt Jones
Release a statement saying, we welcome him back and in the same instance, go league, please get him out of here. Like that to me, I don't know how you. How do they come. How does he end up back there? How do you do that?
Drew Franklin
And how does he look? His coach and the general manager in the eye when they're in the locker room.
Matt Jones
I don't know. He.
Drew Franklin
He knows that they're trying to get rid of him.
Matt Jones
Not trying. They did.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, they did get rid of him.
Matt Jones
They did.
Ryan Lemond
If I'm Mark Williams, my next game with the Hornets, as soon as I get the ball, I'm turning around and punting it in the crowd and walking out. I don't know what the penalty is for that. But they don't want him, obviously. They've. They've doubled and tripled down on not wanting him, and he's still going to be stuck there.
Matt Jones
I feel I, you know, I don't know the guy. He's a dookie. So I tend to say boo, but, like, I do feel kind of bad for him. And then Dirk Nowitzki goes to the Lakers game last night, says, I'm a mav for life, but I'm here for Luca. So the Mavericks fans last night, they're chanting, fire Nico. That's the gm. I don't know if you saw Dallas puts on the jumbotron, the fan cam, you know, you're used to in the fan cam, people going, yeah, go Dallas. Go Dallas. And every person they went to just went, fire Nico. So they had to turn the camera off.
Ryan Lemond
They threw him out too. Anyone that mouthed it, they went, anyone.
Matt Jones
They mouthed it. So this is like just not going well for Dallas.
Drew Franklin
Well, no, because AD plays what, a half a game and abdomen terrible for.
Matt Jones
I feel bad for AD People act like he's a chump. Like he's. And then he gets hurt in the first game. Poor guy. I mean, a couple weeks.
Ryan Lemond
Well, Mavs fans are mad because they were calling him fragile. So the one thing Davis really needed to do was finish the year, make it one game. I hate it for him. But really, the Maps fans, they're probably. Or the. They are furious down there.
Matt Jones
So it stinks now. Completely different gear. Are you getting emails from UK fans about the cost of football tickets?
Drew Franklin
Not yet.
Matt Jones
Well, I am.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And let me just say I have. You're shaking your head. Are you a football season ticket holder? Okay, so I don't know the details, so let me just say I'm not taking a position because I have not researched, but for some fans, they have raised the price of. Of UK tickets of the K Fund donation.
Drew Franklin
Gotcha.
Matt Jones
So if you're a fan who has a K Fund donation with your tickets, and I think it's for the lower level fans, I think your tickets have taken a big jump. As a matter of fact, I'm told they're more expensive this year with one fewer game because remember we had eight home games last year. We only have seven this year. And I'm told the tickets are more expensive with one fewer game. I'm also told that the art. The parking lot passes have really jumped and the RV lot has gone from like $500 to like $1500. And I know why this is happening, which is that $22 million that's coming to give to the athletes. But on a year that we're coming off that season we just had, it's pretty terrible timing, Ryan. So what do you make of it?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, you kind of got to read the room. Coming off the most disappointing season of the Mark Stoops era and looks like it could not gonna get any better next year, record wise. It's maybe the wrong time to want people to spend a lot more money to come watch your team play.
Matt Jones
I'd be interested to hear from those of you that are season ticket holders and, and that have gotten that email like, is yours going up? Are you going to do it? Like, there's a lot of people online going, I'm not going to renew. But I feel like that happens every year. I'm wondering, Drew, to what extent is it like a real problem? Because I heard a trickle of it and then it was like a flood yesterday, which makes me think everybody got their letters yesterday because all of a sudden the text machine was just like blowing up with what's happening with the football ticket. So I, I don't really know the answer.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, they just, I'm looking on their websites. A story just went up that says UK announces new ticket information as someone that buy. I don't know how to compare it right here on the fly, but I've also heard a few complaints about it going up. And also people that have tailgated in the same spots for decade, they're now doing the corporate ones where you have to rent the tailgate spot. It just. I understand that college sports is all about how much you have in the bank account now. But at some point you, your fans can't just be asked for money at every turn or you're going to lose them. These are your customers and you just keep asking for more and more. I mean, they're helping out with nil. But if parking and tickets and tailgate, everything else is going up to at some point, people are gonna have a breaking point.
Matt Jones
UK has to understand that the football fan base here for most of our lives has been a labor of love True. Like for real. It's not like basketball. You give, but you get right for football. For most of our lives, UK fans have given and not gotten much. Now that's changed in the last decade. We've had gotten some great moments. But you got to remember the football fan is a different Kentucky fan. The football fan is more blue collar. Right. The football fan comes from all over the state. The football fan. I see these kids here brings their families to the game. We see. I love the basketball crowd in here before games. But the reality is the football crowd's a different crowd.
Drew Franklin
It is.
Matt Jones
The football crowd is much more of a blue collar crowd. And I think you UK just has to be so careful. You cannot run those people off. That's like the, the, that's the heart of Kentucky. If you're, if you're talking to me about the average Kentucky fan, it is the UK football fan. And if you get rid of them or price them out, I don't know that you can get them back. Like, you can't lose those people. I know you got to make money, but you cannot, Ryan, lose those people.
Drew Franklin
There's still a lot of people that haven't forgiven UK when they, you know, all their seats, they were sitting together at Commonwealth Stadium. They split those up and they took away their tailgate area for blacktop. And they, they do this again a second time, those people may not come back. You know, you hit them once, it's bad, you're gonna hit them again. That's tough, man.
Ryan Lemond
Let's add they don't win at home. They haven't won at home like 1sec win in a couple of years. We talked about it as it was happening last fall. I couldn't believe the crowds that kept showing up just to be kicked between the legs in these games. I mean, the home record has been absolutely garbage lately.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
So, I mean, going to take a hit on season tickets just because they quit winning. But now you're asking for more.
Matt Jones
There are very few basketball season ticket holders that are kind of average Joe and James because it's expensive to buy all of those games. It just is. But those. There are football people like that. And I am worried we're going to run them off. I really am. And that, and I think that would do such a disservice to the people around this state. It really would. And I get the financial part for Kentucky, but you can't lose sight of what the heart of all this is. We've done, we have done so much to push away the average UK fan from. From Big Blue Madness camp out to, you know, just the parking situation at UK football to the K Fund donations. You know, you're asking people to do Club Blue and all this, and I get it, but, man, you got to give them something. You have to, because they are the heartbeat of what this is.
Drew Franklin
You're right. You be very careful. You run those people off. Those are your core people that have come for years and years and years. And once they turn, you feel like they turn your back on them. They won't come back.
Matt Jones
I had a conversation and then we'll go the phones with someone at uk. It wasn't Mitch Barnhart, but it was someone high up. And we were sitting there talking and they got frustrated at me about one of my opinions about Cal. This was a while back. And they said to me, what makes you think that you know the average fan better than Cal Perry does? And I said, because I interact with them.
Ryan Lemond
That's easy.
Matt Jones
And he doesn't. They yell at me on the text machine, right? Like. Like, I deal with people. And I said, respectfully, forget about Cal. I said, you all in the athletic department, you deal with one subset of fans. You deal with the donors and the rich people. We deal with everybody else. And I'm not saying that everything we say is right, but we deal with every kind of fan. And I don't think a lot of people at UK do, and I don't think they always think about what their decision is going to mean for the 90% of the big blue nation.
Drew Franklin
And you're. That's the football fan that. The football fans that. That guy you're talking about. That's why you need to do something to take care of those people that have been coming for years and years and years.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Who's up first? Shannon.
Shannon The Dude
Let's go to Freddy.
Matt Jones
Freddie. How are you, Freddie?
Caller
I'm just fine. How's everybody doing there? Really enjoy the show. I'm gonna go a little bit back in time, and I don't expect you to remember this, But October of 23, at a remote and Bywater farm, at the 11 o'clock commercial break, I came up and asked you a question, and the question was, who do you think will leave UK first? John Calipari or Reed Shepherd? You said you would try to work in the question after the break, but you had a lot going on and weren't. But I'm curious, how do you think you would have answered that question back in October of 23?
Matt Jones
Well, I would have said probably Cal, because We hadn't seen Reed be good yet. By the way, it was Cal Read did stay here a couple of weeks after Cal left.
Caller
That is correct, yeah.
Matt Jones
So I would have said Cal, I appreciate the call. I mean, I think Drew and I had the belief that last year was going to be cows last year. But we thought that was going to be the case because we thought we were going to have a great year and he was going to kind of ride off into the sunset. We did. We didn't particularly think it would be what happened, but I always kind of thought last year could be cows last year.
Drew Franklin
And nobody thought Reed shepherd was going to be a one and done man when he got here. He thought 8th, 9th guy off the bench. So that was definitely not anybody's thought process.
Ryan Lemond
I remember exactly where I was sitting last summer when I said I think this could be cows last year because I was hesitant to even put it out there because the negativity would come with it. But I had in my brain with DJ Wagner on this team, it's the perfect bookend for Calipari's career with having his dad, if he can just have one good run, he can walk off into the sunset and wave and that's genuinely what I thought would happen. Now he did go off in the sunset. It just wasn't with the good run. But I kind of all of last season was kind of taking it all in like it was the last ride.
Matt Jones
While the relief valve on your water heater fails, pouring gallons of water into your finished basement or an electrical shortage in your house causes extensive smoke or damage, you might have to call servpro, your one stop shop when disaster strikes. Hopefully this snow will not do anything to your house, your pipes, etc, but you know what? The last time it did for me had to call server. Go 1-800-servpro s e r vpro.com we hope you do not need them, but if you do, it's 1-800-servpro franchise franchises, independently owned and operated. We'll take a break. Be right back. KSR. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. You come out for lunch here at the KS Bar and Grill. It's still spitting snow but the roads, roads are still good, right? They're all right, they're not bad. You can, you can get out and go. Our pregame show will start at 4:30 right here. So come on out. Who knows what, what we'll give away. I'll probably give away at least a couple of tickets to people who happen to be here eating. I like to reward folks for their. For their thing. So I now have 16 tickets to give away. Shannon, let's not take any more calls right now, and we'll give them away at the end. Okay?
Shannon The Dude
Sounds good.
Matt Jones
Sounds good. All right.
Drew Franklin
I'm excited about this because, like, these people obviously want to go and some people that are giving up their tickets that can't. So it'll just add for a better environment.
Matt Jones
A lot of people write me about the football tickets. Sounds like to me, the way they did it, Drew, is a lot of the ticket prices are like the same or just a little bit more, but you get one less game, which, if you think about it, makes it a lot more expensive. I mean, if you, if you're getting seven games for the cost of eight or, you know, then your, your, your, your, your ticket price has been raised, even if you don't realize they've been.
Ryan Lemond
Raised in some ways, you know, face value on there. And just during that short break, all three of us heard from someone different who gave an example of how much there's one up and at least one that I heard from. So they're not renewing because of that.
Matt Jones
Can we talk about Doug Gottlieb for a second?
Drew Franklin
Let's do it. Haven't talked about him in a while.
Matt Jones
So. Doug Gottlieb coast coaches Green Bay College.
Drew Franklin
Wisconsin Green Bay.
Matt Jones
Wisconsin Green Bay. Now, I'm. Far be it from me to. To judge, but he coaches Wisconsin Green Bay. And it looks like you remember he. When he got the job, he said, I'm going to coach and do my afternoon radio.
Drew Franklin
Afternoon radio show every day.
Matt Jones
So every afternoon he's going to do a radio show, but he was still going to coach. And he said, you all will see when it happens that it was stupid of you to worry about it. So I checked in with Doug Gottlieb on Saturday because I was just thinking about. I haven't heard a lot about him. Wonder how his team's doing. You know, what his team's record is.
Drew Franklin
That's kind of. I, I don't know, but I'm guessing. It's got to be a losing.
Matt Jones
Just take a guess. Doug Gottlieb at Wisconsin Green Bay coaches the team during the morning and night, does a national afternoon radio show during the. During the afternoon. What do you think, Mr. Gottlieb, who's. Who's always been known as very humble guy. What do you think his record?
Drew Franklin
I'll guess 5 and 17.
Matt Jones
Okay. What if I Told you that. You're giving him way too much credit.
Caller
Wow.
Matt Jones
Doug Gottlieb's Green bay team is 2 and 22.
Drew Franklin
Oh, my goodness.
Matt Jones
They are on an 18 game losing.
Shannon The Dude
2 and 23. Now 2 and they just lost the game.
Matt Jones
Okay, so 2 and 23.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
19 game losing streak. So they play 20 game losing streak. 20.
Shannon The Dude
I'm saying it right now on the standards. 20 game losing streak.
Matt Jones
20 game losing streak, 2 and 23. Now here's the best part. They play on Saturday, and you're thinking, you know, coming off your 20th straight loss, maybe we need to get in the film room a little bit. What does Doug golly do? Takes a plane and goes to the Super Bowl.
Shannon The Dude
How much is he getting paid to coach is what I want to know.
Matt Jones
I don't know.
Shannon The Dude
He's still in money.
Matt Jones
I saw that a week ago after they lost. I guess this would have made him 2 and 21. He got up and yelled at the press and said something like, you guys are being critical. When this all turns around, I expect to see you apologize. A bold statement from someone 2 and 23 that have lost 20 games in a row. Can you, if you were the president at that school, are you gonna keep letting him do this show? I'm not saying it's the show's fault, but, like, how can you keep doing a Show when you're 2 and 23?
Ryan Lemond
I couldn't believe they let him do it to begin with. And now the results are what they are. I mean, not only is there are they losing, they're mostly by double digits. And then they lost that one game to, like, Michigan Tech when he called him no name you before the game. It's not just that they're losing. They're not even close to being a good basketball team.
Shannon The Dude
Here's salary. Here's a salary. $215,000. So they're paying $107,500 per win.
Matt Jones
Wow. They paid $107,000 a win. Well, and godly. Part of the reason he said he stayed on the radio is he was like, I got to be able to make that, Sally. Because he makes more from the radio, apparently, than he does as the coach.
Ryan Lemond
I don't understand, like, how he can go on the radio and talk about other coaches and sports. Like, dude, look in your own locker room.
Matt Jones
Totally agree with you.
Ryan Lemond
Criticize anyone.
Matt Jones
So let's look at some of these dudes that are very confident about their analysis when they've had to coach Trent Dilfer. Remember how Trent Dilfer would Always be like, rah, rah, rah. He coaches UAB and they've been like a disaster.
Ryan Lemond
He's got videos like fighting assistance on the sideline.
Matt Jones
Yes, you got got. And by the way, Dilfer's still doing media. Remember when Jeff Saturday left ESPN and went to the Colts and then lost like every game, 50 to nothing? You know, it does sort of show you that all the people that do this job, they sure talk a lot for people who don't win very much, you know, especially Gottlieb.
Drew Franklin
If his show is in the middle of the day, that's when you're, you know, you know, you're on the road or show prep or shoot arounds or getting ready for your game. I just don't see how he can do that during the season. I can see him doing it out of season, but I just don't understand how they're letting him do that during the season.
Matt Jones
2 and 23.
Ryan Lemond
I've wondered, say, okay, and all this.
Matt Jones
Team is going to transfer too. It's not like they're not going to stay there and go 2 and 23 again. No.
Ryan Lemond
And let's say you're a player. You're 2 and 23. You're obviously not having the year you want. I want to go talk to my coach. I'm down. Oh, he's on there for the next three hours. I'm going to wait. No, I would be out, out right there. Like, what are you doing? I need you in here. I to this.
Matt Jones
Unbelievable. So good luck to you. Gottly. That's some, some performance. Who's next?
Shannon The Dude
Let's go to Peggy.
Matt Jones
Peggy. How are you, Peggy?
Caller
I'm great. How are you guys? Good. I have a strange question.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Caller
I've been watching a lot of basketball from different conferences. Of course I watch all the UK games.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Caller
But when it comes down to the NCAA tournament, how do we adjust to having different referees from different conferences?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, you have to do that. I mean, remember though, that like when we talk about an SEC referee, almost every referee in the SEC also referees other conferences. So take like Doug Scholz. Doug Schalls is an SEC referee, but he also referees the Big East. He also referees the acc. And I think he may also referee like the Mac or something. So even though we see them in SEC games, they do other conferences. So I agree with you that the SEC tends to be reft a certain way. But most of these dudes that are refs, they also do other conferences too.
Caller
Oh, okay. Because I was just wondering if There was going to be a big difference when it comes to repping.
Matt Jones
I do think what happens in the tournament, if you look historically and I appreciate the call, they call less fouls in the tournament. Like they let them be more physical so that I think. I don't know if that's gonna. It probably won't be good for us, but that tends to be what they do in the tournament.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, you just got to adjust and you get a feel pretty quick how the rest are going to call it.
Matt Jones
We have you like they're still going to be the referees. You just have to adjust to whatever it is they do. We'll take a break. Be right back. SKSR T.J. smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. he'll make him pay.
Shannon The Dude
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Kentucky and Kentucky and Tennessee play tonight, 7:00 on ESPN. We got Jay Billis. You still feel good?
Drew Franklin
I think, like I said, we can't go into the game thinking Tennessee is going to miss 34 three pointers. They're going to probably hit a lot more than that. But I, the way the Tennessee plays defense, I, I know you guys were talking about the score. We'll predict it later, but I think it's going to be like in the 60s. I think it's going to be a low scoring game, which kind of concerns me a little bit.
Matt Jones
It could be in the 60s, but the good thing is if it's in the 6, one thing about playing Tennessee is like they're not great offensively. So even a game in the 60s, like I always worry about us scoring 60, but then the other team scores 80. If we're in the 60s, you know, and they're in the 60s, then it's a one possession game. Who knows, right? Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
I think they're going to have to get out on Chaz Linear. Pretty good. He's the one I worry about, maybe put away on him and just try to take him out of the game. But again, I'm worried about getting too confident. But as long as he doesn't go nuclear, I really just like the matchup. Tennessee doesn't play well with this style.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Shannon, they put out the Bourbon and beyond lineup.
Shannon The Dude
Yes.
Matt Jones
And it's got a lot of people in it. Let's go over it real quick. Sturgill, Simpson. I like.
Shannon The Dude
Yep.
Matt Jones
Fish, man.
Shannon The Dude
You like fish?
Matt Jones
Was like, well, I mean, it's all, you know, you like fish. I mean it's just all like Every. Everybody's, like, on acid, right? I mean, pretty much.
Shannon The Dude
Psychedelic.
Ryan Lemond
Fish.
Matt Jones
Yeah. A shock. My Guy's got a beard. 11. He likes fish, you know, but fish, Everybody I've ever met that likes fish, like, they're always nice. Like, every person I've ever met that likes fish is nice. But then they'll tell me, like, well, you know that Starbucks takes your DNA and makes coffee with it. And I'm like, what does that mean? Like, they always have some crazy theory if you like fish.
Drew Franklin
I've always heard a Fish concert, though, is a sight to behold. It's going for the people watching.
Matt Jones
Well, I'm. Hopefully we'll see it. Noah Khan. That's that. That one guy that.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Lumineers. I like the Lumineers. Jack White. He's fine. Benson Boone. That's my guy. That's the dude that was wearing the one piece.
Drew Franklin
Yep.
Matt Jones
At the thing. Alabama Shakes. Cage the Elephant. But then when you go down to, like, some of the others, I see, like, the Goo Goo Dolls are coming. Spin. Spin Doctors are part of it. Third Eye. Blind Traveler.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
The Gin Blossoms.
Drew Franklin
A lot of bands from the 90s.
Ryan Lemond
Blind melons on there needs a better agent.
Matt Jones
Okay, I wanted to say this. There are some people who got way too far down the list. Let's start with Ringo Starr. How is Ringo Starr below Vance Joy, Lake Street Dive. I don't know who those people. Ringo Starr is a beetle. He can't even. He's on the fourth row.
Shannon The Dude
Who's Rylo Kiley? I've never even heard of that person before.
Matt Jones
Ringo Star's got to be like, give some respect. I'm ahead of Rylo Kiley. Who the heck is Rylo Kiley?
Shannon The Dude
I agree with you.
Drew Franklin
His name on the. On the poster would make people want to go. If you know Ringo Stars performing, you.
Shannon The Dude
Can do Yellow Submarine.
Matt Jones
Let me give you some more collective soul. Mary Chapin, Carpenter and Blues Traveler are all below. Waxahachie Flatland, Calvary and Joe Bonamassa.
Drew Franklin
Do they.
Matt Jones
Who are these people and how do they get to be ahead of the Mary Chapin Carpenter?
Ryan Lemond
Why is Trombone Shorty on the 8th. 8th row? We just talked about him yesterday.
Matt Jones
10, 10,000 maniacs. First of all, didn't know they were still going. But how are they behind some guy named Sammy? Just a guy named Sammy.
Ryan Lemond
This is my. Aside from the font being all out of order and some people being too far down the list, this is the best I've seen of a festival around here.
Shannon The Dude
That's not. It's not even Kershaw or Hagar or anybody you know.
Matt Jones
Okay, some other surprises. Blonde Melons in it. I thought that guy had been dead for 30 years. How is Blonde Melon still playing?
Shannon The Dude
I mean, you've seen bands replace singers before.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but their singer was the icon, right? Oh, I can. Is that my life? Like, how you gonna have Blind Millen and not have that guy?
Shannon The Dude
That's why they're so funny.
Drew Franklin
Sounds like him.
Shannon The Dude
I guess that's why they're all the way.
Matt Jones
Squirrel Nut. Squirrel Nut Zippers forgot they existed. That was a 90s band. That little. When we remember when SCA was. How squ. Shannon. When did Squirrel Nut Zippers come back along?
Shannon The Dude
I only remember that one song from 1997 or eight. Marcy Playground.
Matt Jones
Mark. Mark Con.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Walking in Memphis. Guy is still performing now he's on, like, the 11th row. But I challenge you to tell me how many people on this list have had bigger songs than Walking in Memphis.
Drew Franklin
Still gets played all the time.
Matt Jones
Shannon. Marcy Playground is on the list.
Shannon The Dude
Played the state fair last year. I got to meet those guys.
Matt Jones
Marcy Playground.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I smell sex and candy. That's still. That. Those people still perform.
Ryan Lemond
And they're at the bottom. They're like three rows from the last row on there, so.
Matt Jones
Quite a list. I agree with you. Drew an amazing list, but I don't know. I don't understand the way it was ordered. Really?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. I mean, Ringo is the one that jumped out to me. I almost quit looking at it. Then I got down to him, like, why is he all the way down here?
Shannon The Dude
Did you notice. Did you notice one of the bands that we were talking about last week when we were talking about the Grammys? Crane Ben is on there.
Matt Jones
I did not. Yes. So that. Yeah, they're a line. Too bad.
Ryan Lemond
Don't you like Trampled?
Matt Jones
I've seen Trampled by Turtles. I like them. I just feel like some of these people didn't get the respect. St. Lucia, you know, they're the ones that do the. My Heart's in Budapest, My Hidden Treasure Chest.
Ryan Lemond
And of all the ones on there, what's your big. I mean, we were surprised. What's the biggest ring? Like, your biggest surprise?
Matt Jones
That they're. I can't believe Blind Melon still performs. I thought when Shannon Hoon died, they just broke up. I mean, the whole point of Blind Melon was his voice. How can they keep going?
Ryan Lemond
That's the bumblebee, right?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Maybe they'll bring the bumblebee out.
Matt Jones
I just can't Believe. Thirty years later, blonde melon is still a thing.
Ryan Lemond
I couldn't believe Mary Chapin Carpenter is a festival person. That's the one that surprised me.
Matt Jones
Oh, dude, she's great. Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
I tried to see her at the opera house. Couldn't even get in.
Matt Jones
I would. I'll go just to see her.
Drew Franklin
You see her?
Matt Jones
Yeah. Who's next?
Shannon The Dude
Bill.
Matt Jones
Bill. Go ahead, Bill.
Caller
Hey, Matt. How you doing?
Matt Jones
Doing good. How you doing, Matt?
Caller
Yeah, I'm here.
Matt Jones
Still good?
Caller
Yeah, yeah. Heading down from Columbus, Ohio, for this game. I already have my tickets, so I don't need those. But I would like to know from a standpoint of the interstate, once I get safe past Florence, Kentucky, to Lexington, I know there's. Other than Williamstown, I don't think there's a whole lot of busy areas, so to speak. What's the interstate like that? And do they do a decent job of cleaning those?
Matt Jones
Yeah, you'll be fine. Interstate's fine. City of Lexington's fine. Honestly, it's fine. Like, especially in the daylight, but even at night, you're fine. The. The snow is fluffy. I don't even. Yeah, you're. You're good.
Caller
All right, Sounds good. I can't wait to get there and gonna try to make the pregame show at. @ KS Bar.
Matt Jones
Appreciate the call. Yeah, I think everybody's fine. I really do. I mean, I don't know what it's like on the secondary roads out in these rural counties, but in Lexington, you're gonna be fine.
Drew Franklin
Even in the neighborhood streets this morning, we're okay. Like I said, they're just. Just slushy.
Matt Jones
I mean, you know my hill, I. Back down.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
No sliding at all. So I think it's fine. Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Just be careful. Buckle up, put your phone down, don't speed. You'll be all right.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Who's next?
Shannon The Dude
Jonathan.
Matt Jones
Jonathan. Go ahead, Jonathan.
Ryan Lemond
Hey, thanks for taking my call, Matt. I had a question for Ask Anything Tuesday. It seems like the injury bug.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Yep.
Ryan Lemond
It seems like the injury bug has.
Caller
Really gotten us these last couple of.
Matt Jones
Weeks and kind of in the past, we would kind of hear, you know, had. Hadn't seen him.
Caller
I don't know.
Ryan Lemond
When talking about the injured players and.
Caller
Like, I feel like with Pope, his.
Matt Jones
Initial comments kind of seem a little bit more like doom and gloom about the players, and then we tend to see them within a game or two.
Ryan Lemond
Do you get the sense that there's any kind of gamesmanship going on, or am I kind of reading into it, too?
Matt Jones
No, I, I. And this is Just a guess because I don't really know him well, but I, I kind of think Mark Pope takes the let's just assume the worst possible option and hope for the best. Right. I think he kind of takes the view of let's assume the guy's out as long as he is out and then let's hope it ends up not like that. Do you agree with that?
Drew Franklin
I do and I really believe last game, it was a game time decision for Butler and for Jackson. I think they really didn't know until they went out and went through the warm ups and stuff that those two guys gonna be able to even play.
Matt Jones
Much more positive about Butler last night.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, he did.
Matt Jones
Like, like, like, like maybe they feel like Butler went through it and now they feel pretty good about him for the rest of the year.
Ryan Lemond
I agree. I'm still, I'm still new to Pope speak. I'm learning it. I'm thinking back to a few weeks ago. I thought Andrew Carr was on his deathbed, the way Pope was talking. Then he played the next game. Part of this is also I just think Pope's very extreme in each direction. Everything's beautiful, everything's incredible. Or if someone's out, I hope we see him again kind of thing. Still kind of learning how to read into what he says. But I liked he said something along the lines like, as much as I expect Butler tomorrow night, I don't expect Jackson as much. It sounded like he was confident in Butler.
Matt Jones

Drew Franklin
You were, you were a trooper that day. I'll say it again and again and again to let me spit water in your mouth. Yeah, you're the trooper.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that'll never happen again, so I hope you enjoyed it. All right, so here's what we're gonna do. I got tickets to give away. Open up the lines. 859-280-2287. Call right now Your job is going to be able to convince Shannon. Oh, to give you the two. That's a tough one. So this is the shit. So this is Shannon deciding. Not soft hearted Ryan, not kind of soft hearted Drew. Not. I like interesting math. This is cold hearted Shannon. We'll get to decide and I'll go so far, I'll pick two winners. Oh, we'll let Shannon pick two.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Matt Jones
Shannon can pick two of the six to get tickets. Shannon, are you ready?
Shannon The Dude
I'm ready to go.
Matt Jones
All right. 859-280-2287. We'll take a break, take your calls. Be right back. It's ksr.
Shannon The Dude
So this is Ringo, I assume the Beatles in general. Yes.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, I know because, like, they all wrote various songs. Right?
Shannon The Dude
Right.
Matt Jones
So not. Did Ringo write any. I know Harrison Lennon and, and McCartney.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, they let Ringo sing some of the songs like Yellow Submarine and few.
Matt Jones
Ringo sings Yellow Submarine. I didn't realize that. Yeah. Okay, so is Ringo considered to be like the worst of the group?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, probably. So like, out of the four, he's the fourth singer.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, because you had George Harrison and then you had Paul and John.
Matt Jones
But, but, but he's the one. Well, I guess McCartney still.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, right. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Cardi was at the Super Bowl.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, he was on the fourth line of the. The flyer. I can tell you that.
Matt Jones
Even, like, I'm upset for Ringo. Yeah, the Beatles should never be lower than the second line.
Ryan Lemond
It's got a fires publicist.
Matt Jones
I mean, Benson, Boone, whatever, man.
Ryan Lemond
Like, come on, it's my guy now. Sorry. Trying to get that outfit for Halloween.
Matt Jones
All right, so, Shannon, are you ready to pick two out of six?
Shannon The Dude
Let's go.
Matt Jones
They each have. I want you to get your buzzer out. They each have 30 seconds to make their case. Okay.
Shannon The Dude
All right, let me find my buzzer.
Matt Jones
But like, let me. Let me ask them who they are and then start when they're explaining. Okay.
Shannon The Dude
All right, here we go.
Matt Jones
All right, who's up first?
Shannon The Dude
Robert.
Matt Jones
Robert, where you live?
Caller
Hey, this is Robert from Louisville.
Matt Jones
Louisville. Give me 30 seconds as to why she managed to pick you.
Caller
Okay, well, because there was a lot of regret last time when I didn't get picked, when they picked the. The lady who's having her 80th birthday and her mom was having her 80th birthday and they took her instead of me. And there was regret about it because I'm the guy that drove out to Lexington to meet the Unforgettables at the fence and I'll stand up and cheer And I will be an excellent choice.
Shannon The Dude
All right.
Matt Jones
All right. So Robert from Louisville has already been passed over once. How's he get through? That's what I can't believe. He's gotten through now twice. This is like the hardest thing to get through. My man's already gotten through twice.
Drew Franklin
That was the last time you gave away tickets this way.
Ryan Lemond
I'm the one that cut him. I remember.
Matt Jones
That's unbelievable to me, Robert. Congrats on that. All right, who's next?
Shannon The Dude
Wayne.
Matt Jones
Wayne. Where do you live, Wayne?
Caller
I live in Versailles, Kentucky and I'm the biggest Wildcat fan that's ever been there. I can remember when I was a kid. Kid sitting in my grandfather's kitchen listening to the UK basketball on a little white radio, as we said.
Matt Jones
Okay. And you and he should pick you. Why? Just because of that.
Caller
Because of that and because I'm the biggest fan and I just got a question about Jackson real quick.
Matt Jones
Can I do that? Your time's almost, so let's just leave. There you are the biggest fan. You are listening and your grandfather's kitchen. All right, who's next?
Shannon The Dude
Spencer.
Matt Jones
Spencer. Go ahead, Spencer.
Caller
Hey, guys, I'm from Stanford. I was a caller back during the football season when I had promise.
Matt Jones
All right, and what's the reason I called?
Caller
I told back then I was the one who had a girlfriend who made me go to a wedding. Inform me that morning. And let me tell you, you all saying skip that wedding has sparked the biggest Kentucky fan out of her of all time. She will call me on the way home yelling if I'm not home in time for a game. I'd love to take her to a game tonight. When we come to trivia, she gives you a stare down at a love.
Matt Jones
Okay. All right, so this is. You skipped the wedding which made your wife a Kentucky fan. I vaguely remember that call. Okay. All right, gotcha. So we put that on there. And then his wife stares me down out of love. I'm gonna assume she's checking me out, of course.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Those tight jeans you wear.
Matt Jones
Wear tight jeans to trivia. I might sometimes in life. But who's up next?
Shannon The Dude
Three more. Mailman. Mike.
Matt Jones
Mike, where you live? Mike.
Shannon The Dude
All right, well, that decides one. He's down. I'm just gonna hang up on him.
Matt Jones
All right, so who's next?
Shannon The Dude
David.
Matt Jones
Mike. David, where do you live?
Caller
Ashland.
Matt Jones
Ashland? Why they pick you?
Caller
Because my wife and I would love to go because we hate Tennessee.
Matt Jones
Okay. All right. Now it's Mike. It's a long drive and it's Snowy. Are you worried about that at all?
Caller
Not at all.
Matt Jones
All right, real quick. Tell me how much you hate Tennessee.
Caller
Oh, my. I remember sitting in Memorial Coliseum before. It was historical Memorial Coliseum, and at that time, it was a tradition to throw oranges on the court when. When Bullwinkle played.
Matt Jones
Okay, who's Bullwinkle?
Drew Franklin
I don't know. I have not heard that name. Rocky and Bullwinkle, you mean.
Matt Jones
Hang on. Go back to him for a second. Who's Bullwinkle?
Caller
He was. He was. I'm pretty sure his name was Bullwinkle. If not, that's what he was called. He was the center for Tennessee. Back about.
Shannon The Dude
Okay.
Matt Jones
All right, I want you to look up. Is there Tom Boerwinkle. Tom Borewinklewinkle.
Ryan Lemond
Called him Bullwinkle.
Matt Jones
Oh, okay. I didn't even know about that. All right, who's left?
Shannon The Dude
All right, finally. Alex.
Matt Jones
Alex, where do you live?
Caller
Nicholasville.
Matt Jones
Nicholasville. Give me the reason.
Caller
So I've already talked to all these guys before. They're all Team Billy. Robert was complaining. I was laughing the whole time. Look, when Shannon makes a decision that.
Ryan Lemond
Right.
Caller
That's just how it is.
Shannon The Dude
Did you understand any of those?
Matt Jones
See that problem is he says he's Team Shannon over Team Billy, but his phone didn't work very well, so. All right, Shannon, we got Robert, who played before and came in second. You got Wayne, who listened to the game in his grandfather's kitchen. You have Spencer, who got his wife to skip a wedding and it made her a UK fan. You have David, who threw oranges on the court at some guy named Bullwinkle. And then you have Alex, who says he's Team Shannon over Billy. You get to pick two of those. Who you pick?
Shannon The Dude
All right, first one, I'm going with a Spencer whose girlfriend made him skip the. Or who he skipped the wedding for. Right. I'm going with Spencer.
Matt Jones
All right, that's pretty good. He skipped the wedding to go to a game, so that shows loyalty.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
And she. She doubled down and now become a big Kentucky.
Matt Jones
She became a fan. She was mad about it, and it became a fan. So the risk paid off. I like that selection, Shannon. And who's the other?
Shannon The Dude
There's a few other choices. This guy's.
Matt Jones
Phone, I can't deal with that.
Shannon The Dude
Like, sucking up always helps, but his phone connection, I'm a little bit concerned about it. I don't even know if I can get his information.
Matt Jones
I think you got to get rid of a guy with a bad phone.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, like, I wanted to go with him. But, you know, so I guess I'm going to have to go to Wayne who says he's the biggest Kentucky fan. I feel confident that Wayne's gonna be really loud tonight. We need rub loud.
Matt Jones
I'm surprised. I thought that wouldn't be Shannon. Shannon usually doesn't like when people say they're big fans. All right, so Wayne and Versailles and Spencer in Stanford. Hang on the phone, Shannon, get their email and I will send them tickets. Okay, there we go. Be watching on social media on KY Sports radio, on Twitter and Instagram, and then Matt Jones, KSR on the TikTok because I'll give some away from on social media.
Drew Franklin
I knew the guy that was sucking up to Shannon that was going to get his vote. Just couldn't hear it.
Matt Jones
You know where I'm going right now, by the way, where you talk about something I never would have thought happened five years ago. I'm going to meet Jeff Goodman for lunch.
Caller
Whoa.
Drew Franklin
My goodness.
Matt Jones
You talk about something I never would have imagined.
Drew Franklin
Times have changed.
Matt Jones
Occurred even like a couple months ago.
Ryan Lemond
A little makeup. Lunch.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, it's. It's just.
Drew Franklin
What's the last.
Matt Jones
It's just lunch.
Drew Franklin
What's the last good conversation you had.
Matt Jones
With him a decade ago, if not more?
Drew Franklin
That's what I thought.
Ryan Lemond
So remember when you sent him around the drinks and they sent it back at the Peach Jam?
Matt Jones
That's right.
Ryan Lemond
That's like a. That's a. That's a.
Matt Jones
So, yeah, right. I'm going to meet him actually right now. Pregame show, 4:30 here at KS Bar. Thank you all very much who came here today. Be careful in the snow, but get ready for this game tonight. We got to beat those dirty volunteers. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio.
