The first game of Kentucky against Oklahoma in Norman. I don't know. Ever. Is this an ever game? Have we ever been played in Norman before?

You know, we thought all along the plan was sit them for a couple weeks, get them ready so they'd be ready to go in March. Well, now I guess they feel like they'd at least get them on the court a little bit, especially if Jackson plays just a little bit. That's nothing but positive. The form arch.

I sort of read this Drew in two ways. One, I think they feel better. Well, obviously feel better about these two guys where they are and also want them to get some action before the tournament. I also think maybe they think this is a big game tonight. Like, I think there is a, hey, you know, this might be one we need to win if we want to get the buy in the SEC tournament. If we want to keep a top four seed in the NCAA tournament, this is one we may need to win and we need our full group.

[Drew Franklin]

Definitely. I mean, of course you want to beat Auburn and Missouri. You don't want to surrender to anyone. But for your tournament standing, really, all you need to do is beat Oklahoma and LSU at Rupp next week. So I think they see the significance in this game where they are in the standings and how important it is to win this one and you know, maybe they play a few minutes. I'm of the belief, just me guessing, that it's kind of going to be like, let's see how it's going and if we need them, we'll put them out there and if we're playing all right, we'll happily let them rest a little longer.

[Matt Jones]

And it's, I mean it's dangerous because what if one of them gets hurt again? People will question the decision. But I mean my. You can't just have them debut in the SEC tournament, right? Like they got to get their some legs under them. This is, you know, if you look at the schedule, this is the most swingy game of them. Right. Like you're not supposed to beat Auburn. You're probably not even supposed to win at Missouri, although I think we could. You're supposed to beat lsu. So this is kind of the most swingy game left where it could go either way. Did a spread come out?

[Drew Franklin]

2 and a half.

[Matt Jones]

Kentucky.

[Drew Franklin]

Kentucky. Yep.

So I think that's. So I think you put those dudes in and then now you say we're going to go win this game in Norman. They're not sold out. I think it's like two tickets for $25. So I don't think we're going to get the crazy atmosphere we get sometimes in these other road games. So I do think it's a, it's a winnable game.

It's a big game for both teams really. So that's why I can see why Butler and Robinson, just as a competitor, they, they want to play. You know, they've been sitting over there. They want to get back and stay their last season of college basketball. They'd love to get in there, so ease them in a little bit. But you're right, you know, last time Butler re injured it just dove on the floor for a loose.

[Matt Jones]

But you can't help that. I mean that could happen either way. That happened in practice. Oklahoma, you know, they were undefeated in the non conference including winning the game, winning the classic down in Bahamas where they beat Louisville, West Virginia. I want to say they beat somebody else good. They won like three difficult games down there. I watched them a little bit during that and I've watched a couple comments game. They are feast or famine. Their guards either go off or miss every shot and we'll Just assume they're going to go off because that's what seems to happen against us. But they are. Feast or famine, they can put a ton of points up or they can score 50.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah, so they had, they beat Michigan, Arizona, they had some big wins.

[Matt Jones]

Michigan was the other one.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah. Their guard fears he's an NBA freshman. He kind of went through a little lull in SEC play, but he was awesome in their last game. Had like 20 something and 11 assists. So he's turning it on at the right time. Even Pope raved about him. You don't usually hear him talking about another player by name, but he had quite, quite a bit to say about him on the coaches show on Monday. So he's the player that needs stop.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, they. He. He was projected for a little while to be a top 15 pick. He did regress when they got to the SEC, but he played well last week. Mississippi State, by the way, has lost two straight games by a combined 67 points, which is a huge, huge drop.

[Drew Franklin]

That was big for us.

That was big for us. All right, so let's talk. You know, look, we could break down the game, but that's what the scientific pregame show tonight at 6:30. It was occurring to me, Shannon, that we're playing Oklahoma. Okay.

And in Kentucky. We've not really done anything Oklahoma E, have we? When's the last time we played a school from Oklahoma in basketball or football?

I mean the other. Who's the other one? Oklahoma State.

[Matt Jones]

Well, you got Tulsa didn't.

When Tayshawn scored 41, he scored against Tulsa.

But. But my point is I don't think we as a fan base have spent enough time considering the state of Oklahoma.

I'd say really the first thing I think of is college sports with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State for sure.

And then the second thing probably would be the Oklahoma City bombing.

Okay. That's why I think what a lot of people do. That was what, 1994 maybe? Something like that.

I want to say the other guy did not, but that could be. What's interesting is nobody ever remembers the other guys.

Oh, yeah, I've been to the memorial. It's powerful because they have an empty chair for each person that died in the explosion sitting in the ground where the building used to be. So, like, on the first floor, there may be five chairs. Sixth floor, there may be 11 chairs, and they're stacked, like, in rolls where the building used to be.

Voice of wrestling. Huge Oklahoma fan. That stupid song. Boomer. Sooner. The only reason that gets in my brain is one time in Vegas, I was playing blackjack, and there were two like. Like those women on the White Lotus. You know, like buddies. Yeah. Middle, you know, 40 year old. Hey. The girls are out in town, and every time they would win a hand, they would go boom, boom. Soon, blackjack. You win a lot of hands, and I wanted to throw them all off the thing, so that's me.

What about you, Zach? Brian comes to mind because he has a bunch of songs they'll call him in the title. Couple personal experiences. The haunted hotel. That's probably the first thing that enters my brain.

[Matt Jones]

This. That's right. In the haunted hotel in Oklahoma City. You're right.

In that same trip, Russell Westbrook and I had a little back and forth while we were driving through Oklahoma. I associate with the state.

You were mocking his thirst traps.

[Drew Franklin]

He needed his thirst trap to be mocked. I've never seen a grown man take that many pictures by himself.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah. Wow, that's a. That's a good memory. All right, Shannon, what about you when you hear Oklahoma?

Well, you've already taken two of mine, the Skirvin and Junior. I will add in. That was also the trip. We were in Oklahoma at the Thunder game. Remember when you had the TV show and we weren't allowed to be on it in the background? Ryan and I could not, like, Photoshop, like, things over top of our heads so that it wouldn't be us. So there's a great picture of Ryan and I at the Thunder game. And I. I don't know who it was. Maybe Daniel, the camera guy at the.

He. He put, like, a Photoshopped head over Ryan and I at the Thunder game. So we went.

That's right. You were not allowed. That was. That was a really stupid I heart rule. Where? Where. When I did. Hey, Kentucky, where you all. They let me be on it, right? They let Drew be on it.

But Ryan and Shannon is where they drew the line. No Ryan, no Shannon. And that I needed you to do. I needed you to do something. So they put a fake head on you. Like, they couldn't show Ryan or Shannon's face on wla.

Yeah, you had cartoon heads were at.

We did it outside in Oklahoma City. Like a little park in a park.

All right, so then also, when I think of Oklahoma, Tulsa makes me think of Tubby. Right? Tubby was. Tubby was at Tulsa. Is that correct? A lot of people don't know this. Joe and Kelly Kraft are like. They're. They're really nice. Like, Craft Compound is in Oklahoma.

Oh, it is like, their house here.

[Matt Jones]

In Lexington is very nice, but, like, it blends in the neighborhood. Like, they live not far from California, where he lived, but they have a plot, like an estate, and it's in Oklahoma. I've never been there. They actually, on that same trip, they offered us to stay there. And I was like, I'm not taking these guys into your house. When you all learned, but you took.

It to the Canadian embassy when they were living up there.

[Matt Jones]

Well, that was. I felt like you. I mean, there were police to take care.

[Drew Franklin]

That was Canada.

[Matt Jones]

That was just gonna be. That was just gonna be me and us. There's also the musical Oklahoma.

Yes. Where it's like kind of a country western music.

I've never seen it. What's. What's that?

Cowboys and Indian. Not Indians, but cowboys and rodeo. People singing and Dancing.

But what's the. What's the.

Is there a plot, though?

I've not seen it.

Then you also. Oklahoma has a lot of, like, Native American reservations. Right. Like, I know there was a thing. If you ever want to go down a rabbit hole of, like, interesting. There was a thing where there were Oklahoma. So, you know, Native Americans on their. Their plan reservations, like, they. There are some federal laws that don't apply to them. They're almost like their own little place. And, well, they're federalized. State laws don't apply. So if you have. If you were to have a Native American reservation in the middle of Lexington, they have to follow federal law, but there's some Kentucky state law that they would not have to follow. They're like sovereign ground.

[Matt Jones]

And I believe there was some Oklahoma law. I'm not sure. Maybe it had something to do with abortion or something. I don't know. Maybe dui, something. Anyway, the Native Americans were like, we're not following it. Sorry, no. And they took them to court and it went all the way Supreme Court, like, a couple years ago. And the Native Americans won, and they were like, they do not have to follow your state law. So now Oklahoma, I think maybe tried to take some of the land back, and it's still a fight, like, because it's a big swath land. It's not just like a street.

And it's in Oklahoma, but it's like, kind of not in Oklahoma. So I just. I've always found that little thing interesting.

Yeah. Indian reservations are usually massive. Many, many, many.

Like up in Montana and South Dakota are massive. Massive. I think this is a smaller one, but it's in Oklahoma.

But basically or in American history, basically the center of black business in America through was. Was in Tulsa and they called it black Wall Street.

And so my view is if you're the projected fourth pick in the draft, you shouldn't be picking your cause decision based on who. That's why I was gonna say what Drew said. The dude can get millions of dollars in nil endorsement deals. Real money. A real million dollars. This fake money. What's he gonna do with that?

So I know Louisville fans are. Reese. Are like, look, we're given so much more blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But I just. For me, that whole system doesn't pass the smell test. And because of that, like, there's no reason. I mean, it is clear that everybody wants Kentucky fans to get involved. Right. Like that. I think the whole thing is trying to get Kentucky fans involved. And for me, Reese, I just don't think it's worth it. That's fair. I. My thing is it took like two seconds to do. And if this account that's like trying to get people to pay for players.

If they have to stake a million.

They want Kentucky fans to be part of this. And I just don't think it would be great for college sports to this to become the way you recruit players is who can bid on the most money. I just.

Yeah. So I just. I'm not. Maybe this will be the future and maybe this will be what we have to do for right now. It just doesn't for me, Ryan, pass the smell test. That I'm gonna say, hey, our fans, go give this thing whatever.

If I were wanting to get invested in recruit. I would stick with the local collectives and going directly with the school and events and doing it that way. Even though it's just weird times period that we're paying for recruits. Still getting used to that. But this one feels a little slimier than the other methods.

It doesn't for me feel like the kind of thing that I, you know, think is is how you should do it. I do think DraftKings though is how you should place a bet. I mean last night there were a lot of big tip you if you were like me and you liked Alabama, that was a small spread. That was over quickly.

I think the guy's a hero. That wasn't a crash there, but, man, like, what is it going on with all these flights and planes?

So here's my question for you.

Like, I want to fly anywhere.

Are we. Is it really more dangerous in the last month, or is it just we are paying more attention to it? Like, I mean, obviously the crash.

Yeah.

Was more dangerous because we hadn't had one in however many years. But it does feel like every day there's a new something. Do we think it's more dangerous or like, it. We. Our attention's on it.

You know, it, it does seem like the near misses are happening a lot more often than usually they usually happen. So I'm, I, I, after the crash, they happen when the helicopter hit the airplane. I read of this one story where it said there the air traffic controllers industry is so short staffed. Like, instead of doing two jobs, one guy's doing two jobs that are two guys in there and in the tower.

[Matt Jones]

See? Okay, not to get everybody all worked up, but, like, a lot of these jobs in the federal government are not the, like, most high, like, exciting jobs to have have. And we just get rid of a lot of people. You got to make sure you're gonna be able to replace them. Right. So I do worry about that, but at the same time, again, maybe this Happens all the time. And we just don't have the videos and everybody's paying attention. I just don't really know the answer.

This is the first time I've ever been like, do I really want to fly anytime soon? Because it just seems there's been more numbers might show different, but I've seen a lot more video than I've seen in the past.

Here's what I've. Here's what I've thought in the last few months. I think there's a lot of things that we rely on the government to do that we just don't think about. We just like, assume they're gonna happen and then all of a sudden when they don't happen, you're like, whoa. You know, the FAA is one of those, like. I've always just taken for granted this idea of like planes not hitting each other, you know, and maybe it's just been clear in the last little bit that they can if you're not careful.

So this latest one would have been awful if that pilot hadn't seen that and pulled up. I mean, that whoever that was deserved.
