This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Wednesday, February 26th. I am Matt Jones here on a beautiful but little slightly chilly day in Lexington, Kentucky. We are at the KS Bar and Grill. It is wings day. Dollar wings all day. Mario is not awake because he was out partying last night, but he's here and we're getting ready. Cats and the Sooners. The first game of Kentucky against Oklahoma in Norman. I don't know. Ever. Is this an ever game? Have we ever been played in Norman before?
Drew Franklin
I can't imagine we have all the.
Caller
Game they played in Norman.
Matt Jones
I don't think so. But we're doing it tonight. 9:00, the only midweek 9:00pm game of the SEC schedule you can give shouting Clark's Puppet Shop phone line 859-280-2287. A Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-774-5254. In this edition sponsored by the TJ Smith Law Office. You call TJ will make them pay. Ryan. Kentucky and Oklahoma. The big news of the morning, Lamont Butler and Jackson Robinson both listed as probable to play, which is they go from out. They don't even hit questionable. Go directly to probable and tonight we will see. Well, maybe both of them, maybe neither of them. I kind of think I did a little scuttling.
Caller
Okay. All right.
Matt Jones
You playing?
Caller
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Robinson. They likely to play but not certain, but feel pretty good about Butler playing.
Caller
You know, we thought all along the plan was sit them for a couple weeks, get them ready so they'd be ready to go in March. Well, now I guess they feel like they'd at least get them on the court a little bit, especially if Jackson plays just a little bit. That's nothing but positive. The form arch.
Matt Jones
I sort of read this Drew in two ways. One, I think they feel better. Well, obviously feel better about these two guys where they are and also want them to get some action before the tournament. I also think maybe they think this is a big game tonight. Like, I think there is a, hey, you know, this might be one we need to win if we want to get the buy in the SEC tournament. If we want to keep a top four seed in the NCAA tournament, this is one we may need to win and we need our full group.
Drew Franklin
Definitely. I mean, of course you want to beat Auburn and Missouri. You don't want to surrender to anyone. But for your tournament standing, really, all you need to do is beat Oklahoma and LSU at Rupp next week. So I think they see the significance in this game where they are in the standings and how important it is to win this one and you know, maybe they play a few minutes. I'm of the belief, just me guessing, that it's kind of going to be like, let's see how it's going and if we need them, we'll put them out there and if we're playing all right, we'll happily let them rest a little longer.
Matt Jones
And it's, I mean it's dangerous because what if one of them gets hurt again? People will question the decision. But I mean my. You can't just have them debut in the SEC tournament, right? Like they got to get their some legs under them. This is, you know, if you look at the schedule, this is the most swingy game of them. Right. Like you're not supposed to beat Auburn. You're probably not even supposed to win at Missouri, although I think we could. You're supposed to beat lsu. So this is kind of the most swingy game left where it could go either way. Did a spread come out?
Drew Franklin
2 and a half.
Matt Jones
Kentucky.
Drew Franklin
Kentucky. Yep.
Matt Jones
So I think that's. So I think you put those dudes in and then now you say we're going to go win this game in Norman. They're not sold out. I think it's like two tickets for $25. So I don't think we're going to get the crazy atmosphere we get sometimes in these other road games. So I do think it's a, it's a winnable game.
Caller
It's a big game for both teams really. So that's why I can see why Butler and Robinson, just as a competitor, they, they want to play. You know, they've been sitting over there. They want to get back and stay their last season of college basketball. They'd love to get in there, so ease them in a little bit. But you're right, you know, last time Butler re injured it just dove on the floor for a loose.
Matt Jones
But you can't help that. I mean that could happen either way. That happened in practice. Oklahoma, you know, they were undefeated in the non conference including winning the game, winning the classic down in Bahamas where they beat Louisville, West Virginia. I want to say they beat somebody else good. They won like three difficult games down there. I watched them a little bit during that and I've watched a couple comments game. They are feast or famine. Their guards either go off or miss every shot and we'll Just assume they're going to go off because that's what seems to happen against us. But they are. Feast or famine, they can put a ton of points up or they can score 50.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, so they had, they beat Michigan, Arizona, they had some big wins.
Matt Jones
Michigan was the other one.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Their guard fears he's an NBA freshman. He kind of went through a little lull in SEC play, but he was awesome in their last game. Had like 20 something and 11 assists. So he's turning it on at the right time. Even Pope raved about him. You don't usually hear him talking about another player by name, but he had quite, quite a bit to say about him on the coaches show on Monday. So he's the player that needs stop.
Matt Jones
Yeah, they. He. He was projected for a little while to be a top 15 pick. He did regress when they got to the SEC, but he played well last week. Mississippi State, by the way, has lost two straight games by a combined 67 points, which is a huge, huge drop.
Drew Franklin
That was big for us.
Caller
Yeah, big.
Matt Jones
That was big for us. All right, so let's talk. You know, look, we could break down the game, but that's what the scientific pregame show tonight at 6:30. It was occurring to me, Shannon, that we're playing Oklahoma. Okay.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And in Kentucky. We've not really done anything Oklahoma E, have we? When's the last time we played a school from Oklahoma in basketball or football?
Shannon The Dude
I mean the other. Who's the other one? Oklahoma State.
Matt Jones
Well, you got Tulsa didn't.
Caller
When Tayshawn scored 41, he scored against Tulsa.
Matt Jones
Tulsa.
Caller
Yeah.
Matt Jones
But. But my point is I don't think we as a fan base have spent enough time considering the state of Oklahoma.
Caller
Okay.
Matt Jones
Right. So I want it today. No, I mean this is going to be like an educational thing for our fan base. Let's just learn or talk about Oklahoma. So before we do any Oklahoma talk, the text machine is 772-774-5254. You can add your Oklahoma thoughts. When I say Oklahoma, what comes to your mind? Ryan? Let's. Let's just do some Oklahoma facts.
Caller
I'd say really the first thing I think of is college sports with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State for sure.
Matt Jones
That's the first thing you think of probably. Okay.
Caller
And then the second thing probably would be the Oklahoma City bombing.
Matt Jones
Okay. That's why I think what a lot of people do. That was what, 1994 maybe? Something like that.
Caller
That sounds right.
Matt Jones
Do you remember who did it?
Caller
Timothy?
Shannon The Dude
I know.
Caller
I want to say dalton. Right.
Shannon The Dude
No, McVeigh.
Caller
McVeigh, yeah.
Matt Jones
Not Timothy McVeigh.
Caller
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And he. He's still the only person, I think, that's been executed by the federal government in, like, 30 years. I don't think. Maybe. Did the Unabomber get executed?
Caller
I'm not sure.
Matt Jones
I know. I'm pretty sure McVeigh did. And I don't think the federal government. I could be wrong about that, but I don't think they've executed any.
Caller
Did they execute the other guy, too, or just Timothy McVeigh?
Matt Jones
I want to say the other guy did not, but that could be. What's interesting is nobody ever remembers the other guys.
Caller
Yeah.
Matt Jones
What's. What was the other guy's name?
Caller
Terry something.
Shannon The Dude
All right, don't say.
Matt Jones
Was it Dalton?
Shannon The Dude
No, he called the. He called Timothy Dalton.
Matt Jones
There were a lot of people that died in that, weren't there, Like.
Caller
Oh, yeah, I've been to the memorial. It's powerful because they have an empty chair for each person that died in the explosion sitting in the ground where the building used to be. So, like, on the first floor, there may be five chairs. Sixth floor, there may be 11 chairs, and they're stacked, like, in rolls where the building used to be.
Matt Jones
That is really powerful.
Caller
It is very powerful.
Matt Jones
Okay, so then the other things that come to mind for me, Drew, Toby Keith. Okay, that's a good one. Who's from Oklahoma?
Drew Franklin
Oh, yeah. Maybe the most famous Oklahoma fan.
Matt Jones
Toby Keith. Shannon. Oh, good old Junior.
Shannon The Dude
That was one of mine. The. The voice of wrestling.
Matt Jones
Voice of wrestling. Huge Oklahoma fan. That stupid song. Boomer. Sooner. The only reason that gets in my brain is one time in Vegas, I was playing blackjack, and there were two like. Like those women on the White Lotus. You know, like buddies. Yeah. Middle, you know, 40 year old. Hey. The girls are out in town, and every time they would win a hand, they would go boom, boom. Soon, blackjack. You win a lot of hands, and I wanted to throw them all off the thing, so that's me.
Drew Franklin
What about you, Zach? Brian comes to mind because he has a bunch of songs they'll call him in the title. Couple personal experiences. The haunted hotel. That's probably the first thing that enters my brain.
Matt Jones
This. That's right. In the haunted hotel in Oklahoma City. You're right.
Drew Franklin
In that same trip, Russell Westbrook and I had a little back and forth while we were driving through Oklahoma. I associate with the state.
Matt Jones
You were mocking his thirst traps.
Drew Franklin
He needed his thirst trap to be mocked. I've never seen a grown man take that many pictures by himself.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Wow, that's a. That's a good memory. All right, Shannon, what about you when you hear Oklahoma?
Shannon The Dude
Well, you've already taken two of mine, the Skirvin and Junior. I will add in. That was also the trip. We were in Oklahoma at the Thunder game. Remember when you had the TV show and we weren't allowed to be on it in the background? Ryan and I could not, like, Photoshop, like, things over top of our heads so that it wouldn't be us. So there's a great picture of Ryan and I at the Thunder game. And I. I don't know who it was. Maybe Daniel, the camera guy at the.
Caller
Daniel.
Shannon The Dude
He. He put, like, a Photoshopped head over Ryan and I at the Thunder game. So we went.
Matt Jones
That's right. You were not allowed. That was. That was a really stupid I heart rule. Where? Where. When I did. Hey, Kentucky, where you all. They let me be on it, right? They let Drew be on it.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
But Ryan and Shannon is where they drew the line. No Ryan, no Shannon. And that I needed you to do. I needed you to do something. So they put a fake head on you. Like, they couldn't show Ryan or Shannon's face on wla.
Shannon The Dude
Cartoon heads on us.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you had cartoon heads were at.
Caller
The Buddy Holly Museum when you guys shot the show.
Matt Jones
That was in Texas.
Drew Franklin
We did it outside in Oklahoma City. Like a little park in a park.
Matt Jones
All right, so then also, when I think of Oklahoma, Tulsa makes me think of Tubby. Right? Tubby was. Tubby was at Tulsa. Is that correct? A lot of people don't know this. Joe and Kelly Kraft are like. They're. They're really nice. Like, Craft Compound is in Oklahoma.
Caller
Oh, it is like, their house here.
Matt Jones
In Lexington is very nice, but, like, it blends in the neighborhood. Like, they live not far from California, where he lived, but they have a plot, like an estate, and it's in Oklahoma. I've never been there. They actually, on that same trip, they offered us to stay there. And I was like, I'm not taking these guys into your house. When you all learned, but you took.
Caller
It to the Canadian embassy when they were living up there.
Matt Jones
Well, that was. I felt like you. I mean, there were police to take care.
Drew Franklin
That was Canada.
Matt Jones
That was just gonna be. That was just gonna be me and us. There's also the musical Oklahoma.
Caller
Yes. Where it's like kind of a country western music.
Matt Jones
I've never seen it. What's. What's that?
Caller
Cowboys and Indian. Not Indians, but cowboys and rodeo. People singing and Dancing.
Matt Jones
But what's the. What's the.
Caller
Don't know.
Matt Jones
Is there a plot, though?
Caller
I've not seen it.
Matt Jones
Then you also. Oklahoma has a lot of, like, Native American reservations. Right. Like, I know there was a thing. If you ever want to go down a rabbit hole of, like, interesting. There was a thing where there were Oklahoma. So, you know, Native Americans on their. Their plan reservations, like, they. There are some federal laws that don't apply to them. They're almost like their own little place. And, well, they're federalized. State laws don't apply. So if you have. If you were to have a Native American reservation in the middle of Lexington, they have to follow federal law, but there's some Kentucky state law that they would not have to follow. They're like sovereign ground.
Caller
Right.
Matt Jones
And I believe there was some Oklahoma law. I'm not sure. Maybe it had something to do with abortion or something. I don't know. Maybe dui, something. Anyway, the Native Americans were like, we're not following it. Sorry, no. And they took them to court and it went all the way Supreme Court, like, a couple years ago. And the Native Americans won, and they were like, they do not have to follow your state law. So now Oklahoma, I think maybe tried to take some of the land back, and it's still a fight, like, because it's a big swath land. It's not just like a street.
Caller
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And it's in Oklahoma, but it's like, kind of not in Oklahoma. So I just. I've always found that little thing interesting.
Caller
Yeah. Indian reservations are usually massive. Many, many, many.
Matt Jones
Like up in Montana and South Dakota are massive. Massive. I think this is a smaller one, but it's in Oklahoma.
Caller
I was sitting. We thinking Blake Shelton. He'll be here tomorrow night. And he's from Oklahoma.
Matt Jones
You think he came?
Caller
I think he may come to the show today.
Matt Jones
So we need. If we need to beat him, then we in the crowd can taunt him.
Caller
Tomorrow during the show.
Matt Jones
During the show. Like, his buses pulled up yesterday.
Caller
Oh.
Matt Jones
Which made me think, Shannon, that's got to be a heck of a set he has if the buses get there two days early.
Shannon The Dude
Got a massive station.
Matt Jones
Would you say talking to me? No, Mass. It's got to be two days early, Right.
Caller
My son's on the crew helping set it up and break it down. I know he had to report today.
Matt Jones
Your son's on the Gavin.
Caller
He does that stuff. Break, set up stage.
Shannon The Dude
Like wwe too, right?
Caller
Yeah, he did the. Was it the Super Slam, whatever. It was in Indianapolis.
Matt Jones
Super Slam.
Shannon The Dude
Summer.
Caller
Summer Slam.
Matt Jones
Summer Slam. I think you mean the Royal Rumble.
Caller
Royal Rumble.
Matt Jones
It's not called the Super Slim. Yeah, that was a sale they had at Walmart.
Caller
And it wouldn't be Summer Slam in February.
Matt Jones
It was in January. And. No, it wouldn't.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, a Kanye concert when Kanye was, like, living in an arena. Right.
Matt Jones
The.
Caller
When Kanye came out in the middle of the arena and had, like, some costume one. You couldn't see his face. Yeah, Gavin worked that one.
Matt Jones
There you go.
Drew Franklin
Also, think about the movie Twister.
Matt Jones
Is that based in Oklahoma?
Drew Franklin
Big, big tornado area.
Matt Jones
Okay. Well, if you have other facts, I want to use the. Ultimately, this show is here to educate. Sure. And we should learn about the state of Oklahoma. Do you know what is the capital?
Caller
Oklahoma City.
Matt Jones
That's right.
Drew Franklin
Also, Ted Kaczynski was the Unabomber.
Matt Jones
No, I know that, but he wasn't the second person on the.
Drew Franklin
We couldn't get the Unabomber's name either.
Matt Jones
I knew that one. I actually didn't know. It's the Timothy McVeigh. What's the other guy?
Caller
It's Terry something.
Matt Jones
Terry McAuliffe. No, he's the governor.
Caller
Oh, I think it is Maybe an.
Matt Jones
Mc, but he was the governor of Virginia. I don't think he did it.
Caller
We'll have to look it up.
Matt Jones
All right. 859280, 2287. What town is Oklahoma State in?
Caller
Norman.
Matt Jones
No, that's Oklahoma.
Caller
Oh, Oklahoma State. Not sure.
Matt Jones
Still water.
Caller
Still water. Still water.
Drew Franklin
I don't really have any Sooners thoughts like we're all naming the state. Do you all have any, like, Mayfield comes.
Matt Jones
They're really good at. Well, it's. They're good at women's softball. They, like, win it every year.
Caller
That's true. They do.
Matt Jones
Baker Mayfield. Yeah. Barry Switzer. I always think of Barry Switzer and then Adrian Peterson. Barry Sanders played at Oklahoma State, but yeah, that's all I got. 859-280-228. Best Oklahoma basketball player, Blake Griffin. I got two that come to mind. Well, see, actually, I wasn't even going to say him, but Blake Griffin should be on there.
Caller
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Trey Young.
Caller
Trey Young, yeah.
Matt Jones
And then what about. What about Wayman Tisdale?
Caller
Oh, that's a great one.
Matt Jones
Wayman Tisdick.
Caller
He was as dominant as anybody during that era.
Matt Jones

Yeah, there you go. This is Kenny Rogers version.
Shannon The Dude
That's right.
Matt Jones
Of the song that I is maybe my favorite. Tyler Childers live. When he plays Tulsa Turnaround live, it's the best thing he does. Now he doesn't always, he doesn't have it recorded, but live. This is the song I enjoy the most.
Caller
One of the veins in his neck pop out so much.
Matt Jones
He said, you know, the funky butt gives me the Tulsa turnaround. That's right. This Kenny was originally Kenny Rogers when he was in that weird band, what was it called?
Shannon The Dude
Right. Our First Edition Dimension. First Edition?
Matt Jones
Yeah, people. I didn't know that until Tyler Childers that. That Kenny Rogers was in a band like a Funkadelic. Yeah, like, you know, I think like a drug addled band called First Edition. How many people know that, do you think? Not there can't be many.
Caller
Well, our parents all know it.
Matt Jones
Did you know it?
Caller
Yeah, I knew it.
Matt Jones
You knew he was in First Edition?
Caller
Yeah.
Matt Jones
You knew he was in like a funk band.
Caller
Yeah. Like really? An LSD drug induced type band. Had some weird songs.
Matt Jones
Well, they have that song that's in Big Lebowski. Right. Just.
Shannon The Dude
By condition was there.
Matt Jones
My Condition. My Condition is. That's a Kenny Rogers song too.
Drew Franklin
I didn't know about First Edition, but I would love him to perform with New Edition. That would be a great concert.
Shannon The Dude
Just walked in to see what condition my condition was in. That's.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Yeah, that's a great song too. All right, so some more things. The Dust bowl. You know, you've Heard about the dust Bowl. That was in Oklahoma.
Caller
Oklahoma.
Matt Jones
They call them Okies. Okies from Muskokee. Terry Nichols was the other Terry Nichols. And then what?
Drew Franklin
Tiger King was in Oklahoma.
Caller
I got a guy to sent me a fun fact. You can actually get from Oklahoma to Kentucky. Driving through one state.
Matt Jones
What state?
Caller
Missouri.
Matt Jones
So you go from Kentucky to. Okay.
Caller
I never would have thought that.
Matt Jones
Like a really fun fact.
Caller
I thought it was a. Blew my mind. My mind exploded.
Matt Jones
I mean. I mean, I guess that's interesting. But you. You got really excited.
Caller
I couldn't believe it. I had to look it up on the map.
Matt Jones
You think Oklahoma was. We've been there. Yeah, a number of times.
Caller
I thought, there's no way. Well, only one state connects the two. Where Kentucky's located, where they're located. And I'll be damned.
Shannon The Dude
Crazy how maps work.
Matt Jones
You know what?
Caller
Oklahoma is shaped like a frying pan. I remember that when I was a kid.
Matt Jones
Brian Bosworth. Yeah.
Caller
I think Troy Aikman is actually from Oklahoma.
Drew Franklin
He played there.
Matt Jones
Well, didn't he? He started there and then he went to ucla, right?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And then Johnny Bench is apparently from Oklahoma.
Caller
I didn't know that.
Matt Jones
So there you go. I'm sure there'll be other things that come.
Caller
Brooks.
Drew Franklin
Garth.
Matt Jones
Wait a minute. Garth from Oklahoma?
Drew Franklin
Oh, yeah, Big Oklahoma City.
Matt Jones
We put. We pulled out Blake Shelton and all those guys. And before we pulled out. Garth.
Caller
Garth.
Drew Franklin
He's right where he needs to be.
Matt Jones
You don't like. You don't like.
Drew Franklin
I did. It's a little weird.
Matt Jones
What makes him weird?
Drew Franklin
He's just. Everything is so dramatic. Like, I watched a special on him recently in his interview. I had to turn it off. I'm like, no one talks like this in conversation.
Matt Jones
So you're anti gar.
Drew Franklin
I love a good Garth song. Garth, he creeps me out a little bit.
Matt Jones
He creeps? Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Oh, I'll sing Garth with anyone. It's probably one of my top 20 artists played each year. But Garth, the person, he's a little creepy to me.
Matt Jones
Oh, man. Who knew you had an anti guard?
Drew Franklin
I mean, he can sing. He's got some hits. Several hits. But he's just. Just a different dude.
Shannon The Dude
Most people just hate Chris Gaines and then like Garth Brooks.
Matt Jones
Yeah, part of the weird. That is weird. Chris Gaines was weird. Pretty good Saturday Night Live host, actually. All right, so let's. Let's talk about. We have Butler and Robinson. What are the minute. What's the minutes like tonight? Who's playing? Who's not playing? Is there guys have been Getting run to get no run. Does Mark Pope now only play amari 17 minutes a game? Like what? What are we doing?
Caller
I'd say Lamar gets more minutes than Jackson. And so those minutes didn't get taken away from Travis Lamont. I saw them all on the post game show the other night.
Drew Franklin
Kobe Brady.
Caller
So I think Butler gets definitely some of Travis's minutes because Travis played, what, 29 minutes.
Matt Jones
The biggest change will be Lamont taking his minutes.
Caller
Yes.
Matt Jones
Is that fair?
Caller
Yes.
Matt Jones
Then what do we think? Jackson takes a lot of what, Colin Chandler minutes? Is that kind of how you think it goes?
Drew Franklin
I'm still confused on Robinson. You know, I'm taking Pope for his word, but he was like, Jackson's just now getting back to skill work. He just said that few days ago. So if he was just doing that, not even practicing fully, I just can't imagine him playing a lot. I hope to see him.
Matt Jones
So if I set the over under on Butler minutes at 20, what do you think it is?
Caller
Oh, that's a good number. I'd probably say over.
Matt Jones
Okay. What do you think?
Drew Franklin
I've got him at 17 minutes, so I'll go under.
Matt Jones
All right.
Drew Franklin
That's assuming the game's going well.
Matt Jones
I mean, it's. Yeah. So I'm going to say that. That's really the thing for me. If we're winning under, if it's really close, comes down to the end over. That's what I would say. All right. What about Robinson? I was gonna set it at like 15.
Caller
I go under.
Matt Jones
So do you think there's a chance he doesn't play?
Caller
I think there's a chance he doesn't play. Yeah.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew Franklin
I'll go under.
Matt Jones
Yeah. All right. So who starts?
Drew Franklin
I think you stick with the group.
Caller
I think you do, too. Stick with that group of starters. I think Perry has a chance.
Matt Jones
You're starting Perry.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, but he. I mean, Fears is. He's a point guard, and he's gonna be a tough guard. He's not quite Mark Sears that Perry just had to. I think you stick with what you've had the last few games and work Butler.
Matt Jones
I disagree. I would go Butler. I would bring Robinson off the bench, but I would go Butler away. Brea, Carr, Williams.
Drew Franklin
In my mind, they'll do one of those hot starts again. It'll be 9 to 2 or 12.
Matt Jones
To 2, and they'll bring the other guy.
Drew Franklin
But then Butler's part of the second wave. Get them off the bench.
Caller
That's.
Drew Franklin
That's if our Mark Pope. But I also have no business being a basketball coach, so.
Matt Jones
No, you don't. You.
Drew Franklin
I really don't.
Matt Jones
I, I. Yeah. If he's going to insist on bringing in a second wave, I almost wish he would leave Robinson and Butler for that second wave. So we don't get.
Caller
We didn't talk a whole lot. Car played really, really well, and Liam and or didn't do anything.
Drew Franklin
He almost had a trillion again.
Matt Jones
Almost. He only played like 10 minutes.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
But I think, honestly, no offense to Ansley Almondor, that's how it should be. I think Carr should be the one getting the minutes. Almanor should come in and hopefully, you know, be able to hit some threes and. Yeah, he's just, he's good at what he does, but I don't think you want him to be a starter.
Caller
Correct.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Carl looks to be back.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I didn't know you hated Garth. He always says nice things.
Drew Franklin
Garth, the person, not his music.
Matt Jones
All right, we'll take a break. Barry Max, ksr. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call tj.
Ryan Lemond
He'll make him pay.
Shannon The Dude
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Don Williams, underrated country singer right here.
Caller
This is a great song.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it is. I don't even know what it means to live on Tulsa time, but you got. I always like this song. Don Williams got a good voice. Like, he's kind of forgotten by history, but in that little era of country music that I like, he put it the stuff out.
Caller
Well, we mentioned Garth Brooks and Blake Shelton. Guess who else is from Oklahoma. Reba.
Matt Jones
How about this? Garth Brooks, Reba McIntyre, Blake Shelton, and Carrie Underwood.
Caller
Carrie Underwood.
Matt Jones
That's a pretty good. I mean, there are not many states you get outside of, what, Tennessee, Kentucky, maybe Texas. You're not gonna have too many countries. I mean, yeah, if you're talking country stars. I mean, you can make a strong argument that Garth's the biggest male country singer ever. And you can make a strong argument that Reba could be, if not the biggest, the second or third biggest female singer, and they're both from the same state. That's pretty big.
Caller
That's huge. I was surprised.
Drew Franklin
Also, my doppelganger, Brad Pitt, he's from Oklahoma.
Matt Jones
You think he's your doppelganger?
Drew Franklin
I would just say we look different. A little different.
Caller
I'm. I'm enjoying.
Matt Jones
Wait, that's not what doppelganger means, though. Doppelganger.
Drew Franklin
Well, he doesn't look. Yeah, I was just trying to hype myself up. Brad's not Better looking than me. We just have different appearances.
Matt Jones
Oh you, oh, so you, you think you're equal?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, we're just different.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
That's interesting. I'll give you another little facts. Somebody reminded me. Do you know that in around the turn of. From early 1900s, did you know that. That Oklahoma was black Wall Street? Do you know this?
Caller
No.
Matt Jones
So Oklahoma City was basically during segregation. Wall street or excuse me, Tulsa was Wall street for black businesses. And there, if you, if you read about the massacre of 1921, it's. I mean the movie the Watchman and the book the Watchman has a lot to do with it. You should read about it. It's a very, it's actually one of the under reported things in human history. But basically or in American history, basically the center of black business in America through was. Was in Tulsa and they called it black Wall Street.
Caller
I didn't know that. I didn't know about the Tulsa massacre though. That's a very powerful story you should read.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Caller
Understand it.
Drew Franklin
I can name some Kentucky basketball players from Oklahoma. One we mentioned yesterday.
Matt Jones
Who's that?
Drew Franklin
Colin Azabuki.
Caller
Oh yeah.
Drew Franklin
And then there's two on the current team. Brandon Garrison and Jackson Robinson are from Oklahoma.
Caller
That's Jackson's from Oklahoma.
Drew Franklin
And we can throw in Daniel Orton.
Matt Jones
For fun from Oklahoma. All right, well 859-280-2287. Let's. I'm going to give you a quick. Before we go the phones. I'm going to give you some teams that our fans care about and it's going to be Buy. Sell. You ready?
Caller
Got it.
Matt Jones
Buy. Sell. Duke is a national champion.
Caller
Buying.
Matt Jones
They've won their last two games by a combined total of like 80.
Caller
I'm buying right now.
Drew Franklin
I'm selling one. He'll slip and fall in a close game too. They just haven't been tested in the acc.
Matt Jones
Shannon.
Shannon The Dude
Selling. They'll get upset by somebody and probably the Sweet 16 round.
Matt Jones
I'm gonna say selling to win the title because I think you, those freshmen, they'll drop one somewhere but buying to be maybe the second best team. They've gotten, they've gotten a lot better as the year goes on. And I know they're not playing anybody but still they're still playing really well. Buy. Sell. Tennessee is a final four team.
Drew Franklin
Come on.
Matt Jones
Made a Final four. They do it this year.
Caller
No, that's why when they play around the golf they play 14 holes, they never play them. Final Four.
Drew Franklin
They got a good, good reaction in here.
Matt Jones
That was a sympathy laugh.
Caller
Brandon's holding his gut. He's laughing so hard.
Matt Jones
That was the sympathy laugh. Where did you hear that joke?
Caller
Actually, Drew and Corbin sent that to me. I used it in a speaking engagement one time.
Matt Jones
Oh, you had a writer for a speaking engagement?
Caller
Yeah, that. That one joke.
Matt Jones
Wow. Well, maybe you should get some better ones. No offense to Drew and Corbin. All right, so buy herself. Tennessee Final Four.
Drew Franklin
I'm selling. And just yesterday at the baseball game, we were talking about how they were in the Elite Eight last year and how nerve wracking it was that the joke almost went away. But we get to keep saying no Final Fours a little longer.
Matt Jones
All right, Shannon.
Drew Franklin
Hopefully fraternity.
Shannon The Dude
I'm selling. They're going to selling.
Matt Jones
All right. I'm going to sell as well. I just don't think they have enough offense. Buy or sell Louisville as a second weekend team.
Caller
I can buy that. I'm gonna buy it.
Matt Jones
You're gonna buy it?
Drew Franklin
Okay, I'll buy it. I don't love it, but I'll buy into that.
Matt Jones
Sell. They're gonna get to second round, but they'll be playing somebody higher seeded than them. Probably when they get there, they just. I mean, they haven't played anybody.
Caller
I hate to say it. I like that Hepburn guy there.
Matt Jones
Oh, he's great. He's been great. He's been great. But I'm still selling. What about you, Shannon?
Shannon The Dude
So they have him, I think around a six seed. Is that right? They just beat like a six.
Matt Jones
Probably could get up to a five.
Shannon The Dude
So they'd have to knock off a three seed, you know, three or four. I'm going to buy. I think they're going to buy.
Matt Jones
So three Louisville believers. St. John's Elite 18. Buy or sell?
Caller
You know what? I'm going to buy that because they play defense like nobody and that's what wins. You lost some close those close games in the tournament.
Drew Franklin
How by. I can't believe I just went by on Louisville and Patino back to back, but man, they're fun to watch and he's got them playing so well right now.
Matt Jones
I mean, I'll buy them to the Elite Eight. I think they lose at that point, but I could buy and right scenario to the Elite Eight, Shannon.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, they just can't shoot the balls. But they are great. They are great defensively, though.
Matt Jones
They are great defensively, yeah.
Shannon The Dude
And they've done. They're on a roll. I'm going to go buy. I'm going to go buy or sell.
Matt Jones
Arkansas wins a game in the tournament.
Caller
I am selling that. We've known Caliper's track record here in the first round of any tournament. Sell, sell, sell.
Matt Jones
Now, they could play in the first four. In the first four. That would be winning a game. Is that plausible?
Drew Franklin
I' for that reason, I was already thinking that they went in Dayton. Get to the tournament and lose.
Matt Jones
I'm gonna say bye. I think they'll win a game in Dayton and then they'll lose.
Shannon The Dude
Shannon, I'm not even convinced they're gonna make the tournament. They've got. They still got to go to Vandy, but they've got Texas. And I'm gonna say sell. I'm gonna sell.
Matt Jones
Zero games. There you go. Those are our good. Yeah. Who's up first? Shannon.
Shannon The Dude
Reese.
Matt Jones
Reese. Go ahead, Reese. Hey, Matt. I'm a couple days behind on the podcast, so I apologize if you guys.
Drew Franklin
Already talked about this, but that Fan.
Matt Jones
Steak account you guys mentioned, they're doing something that I think they're kind of.
Drew Franklin
Underestimating Big Blue Nation.
Matt Jones
Let me just say I'm out on Fan Steak. Not because it's no real money, though. Yeah, but I don't care. I mean, I like the. The idea of this fans. First of all, if Nate Amit chooses to go to college based on fake money from a fake account, like, then, you know, was that really what you want? That just this idea of. I don't believe the idea of promoting people to give money on a, like, auction basis for players. I just don't think that's a really great way to go now. I know, like, it doesn't really cost you any money, and Louisville has really gotten into it. And if he picks Louisville, everybody's gonna say it's because of that, but it's not. I mean, does Nate Amit, does, like, he have a stake in Fan Fan Steak? No, but I'm serious. Like, I. I don't. What do you think Drew am?
Drew Franklin
I don't really. I'm not a fan of it. Also, hopefully someone rated as Holly as him is considering real things for his college decision. Not this Fan Steak.
Matt Jones
I mean, I feel so weird that.
Drew Franklin
You'Re bidding on a player.
Matt Jones
Anyway, ESPN released their first 2026 mock draft this morning, and he's like the projected fourth pick in the draft. And so my view is if you're the projected fourth pick in the draft, you shouldn't be picking your cause decision based on who. Which fan base gives you the most $20 donations that aren't even real donations.
Caller
That's why I was gonna say what Drew said. The dude can get millions of dollars in nil endorsement deals. Real money. A real million dollars. This fake money. What's he gonna do with that?
Matt Jones
So I know Louisville fans are. Reese. Are like, look, we're given so much more blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But I just. For me, that whole system doesn't pass the smell test. And because of that, like, there's no reason. I mean, it is clear that everybody wants Kentucky fans to get involved. Right. Like that. I think the whole thing is trying to get Kentucky fans involved. And for me, Reese, I just don't think it's worth it. That's fair. I. My thing is it took like two seconds to do. And if this account that's like trying to get people to pay for players.
Drew Franklin
If they have to stake a million.
Matt Jones
Dollars in a dement. It's like 30, 000 people.
Drew Franklin
Put 25.
Matt Jones
Like not real 25. You put in an email and a phone number.
Drew Franklin
You don't put in a credit card.
Matt Jones
And you just realize that those words you're saying is why none of us will ever have privacy anymore. Because you're like, well, all they're doing is I'm giving away this, this and this. That's what they want you to do. Right. And then like, it's not going to stop with this one. If it works, it'll keep going. They want us and I appreciate the call. They want Kentucky fans to be part of this. And I just don't think it would be great for college sports to this to become the way you recruit players is who can bid on the most money. I just.
Drew Franklin
And what percentage is fans take taking home with them? Because that's. They're getting a cut of whatever's happening here.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So I just. I'm not. Maybe this will be the future and maybe this will be what we have to do for right now. It just doesn't for me, Ryan, pass the smell test. That I'm gonna say, hey, our fans, go give this thing whatever.
Caller
Could. Could that be legal if it was. If they were using real money?
Matt Jones
Well, anything legal now, I mean, you can. I mean like. I mean anything. Like. Like, like I don't think in recruiting there's gonna be anything that's against the rules. Now.
Caller
Why. Why wouldn't that be? Why wouldn't that start doing that?
Matt Jones
Because I still think in the long run it's not real money. Like, you heard what that guy just said. If 30,000 of us, you know, I mean, you know how hard it is to get 30,000 people to do anything.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
If I were wanting to get invested in recruit. I would stick with the local collectives and going directly with the school and events and doing it that way. Even though it's just weird times period that we're paying for recruits. Still getting used to that. But this one feels a little slimier than the other methods.
Matt Jones
It doesn't for me feel like the kind of thing that I, you know, think is is how you should do it. I do think DraftKings though is how you should place a bet. I mean last night there were a lot of big tip you if you were like me and you liked Alabama, that was a small spread. That was over quickly.
Drew Franklin
I did Luca and Kyrie overs in the Lakers Mavs, but he didn't hit it though, right? Well he had a triple double like plus 110.
Matt Jones
Yeah, Luca was he needed 30. I thought that I actually bet the under on Luca and he had a good game but he didn't get the 30. Matt Jones
Dolly. No, she's not from Oklahoma.
Shannon The Dude
No, no, it's not Dolly. It's Reba.
Matt Jones
Oh, well, no one.
Shannon The Dude
I know you in Oklahoma is the song.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, forget that.
Shannon The Dude
See you. You can't even tell Dolly from Riva. You say you hate.
Matt Jones
I did think for a second it was Dolly.
Shannon The Dude
Basically, Dolly.
Matt Jones
No, she's not.
Shannon The Dude
Don't eat yourself.
Matt Jones
Reba's not doll. You need to stop yourself. Let me hear. Well, that's not. Wait a minute. Go back to the beginning. No, that was that. No. Is she singing with Dolly?
Shannon The Dude
No, it doesn't.
Matt Jones
That was not Reba at the beginning. That's Reba. I know Reba's voice. That's Reba. Go back to the beginning. Go back to where you started playing. See, she's singing with somebody. That's Dolly.
Drew Franklin
That actually sounds like.
Caller
Sounds like Dolly.
Matt Jones
That's Dolly. It says you apologize to me, Shannon.
Shannon The Dude
I will not.
Matt Jones
I knew that was Dolly.
Shannon The Dude
I will take responsibility. I will not apologize.
Matt Jones
You tried to say it was Reba. I knew that was Dolly. You owe me an apology.
Shannon The Dude
I don't owe you anything. It says Rean McIntyre right here, and that's Dolly.
Drew Franklin
Sounds like Dolly to me, but you're the expert.
Matt Jones
See, Shannon. Shannon tried to pull one on me, and I still was able to figure it out.
Shannon The Dude
Rea song.
Caller
So if it's not Dolly, it's somebody. Sound.
Shannon The Dude
If Dolly is willing to work with Reba, then can you.
Matt Jones
I don't know this song, but I will. Will. I will put a million dollars that. That was Dolly Parton at the beginning. Let's turn up now. That's Reba. All right, well, we'll stop it, because I don't. We. We do. We have to do it. Like, people on the podcast don't even hear any of this.
Caller
So, like, what are they talking about?
Matt Jones
Why is Matt screaming right now? Terry says Garth Brooks is such a phony. I agree with Drew. He called himself Mr. Tricia Yearwood. One police. Well, he might be a phony, but what's wrong with calling yourself Mr. Trisha Yearwood? Isn't that like, he's just being. He's just, like, being nice to his wife, right?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I didn't even know about that. It's. I don't Even know how to articulate it. But in interviews, just the way he talks, it's like, so dramatic. Everything is just this. I don't.
Matt Jones
I know what you mean. I can see what you're saying, but, like, I don't think he's like, a phony because he is, like, pumping up his wife.
Drew Franklin
No, I don't. That's.
Matt Jones
I can see you saying, I'm Mr. Abby Franklin.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, that's. That's probably what I'm saved in as her phone.
Matt Jones
Yeah, yeah. Terry, don't be so, like, masculine.
Caller
Like, like, you know, I thought during.
Matt Jones
The course you're Mr. Yoga Girl.
Caller
I'm. I'll take that.
Drew Franklin
You're Mr. Dolly.
Matt Jones
I'm enjoying would be Mr. Dolly.
Caller
I'm Enjoying watching Tulsa King. I've almost got the second season finished with. You know, I didn't think about that. It's different. I think the Tulsa we've seen, Tulsa King's a little different than Tulsa in real life, maybe.
Matt Jones
So, Shannon, what did you think of the Southwest Airlines pilot that was landing, saw another plane coming round, thought, thought he was gonna hit it, and then came right back and got up out of the air. What'd you think about that?
Shannon The Dude
I think the guy's a hero. That wasn't a crash there, but, man, like, what is it going on with all these flights and planes?
Matt Jones
So here's my question for you.
Shannon The Dude
Like, I want to fly anywhere.
Matt Jones
Are we. Is it really more dangerous in the last month, or is it just we are paying more attention to it? Like, I mean, obviously the crash.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Was more dangerous because we hadn't had one in however many years. But it does feel like every day there's a new something. Do we think it's more dangerous or like, it. We. Our attention's on it.
Caller
You know, it, it does seem like the near misses are happening a lot more often than usually they usually happen. So I'm, I, I, after the crash, they happen when the helicopter hit the airplane. I read of this one story where it said there the air traffic controllers industry is so short staffed. Like, instead of doing two jobs, one guy's doing two jobs that are two guys in there and in the tower.
Matt Jones
See? Okay, not to get everybody all worked up, but, like, a lot of these jobs in the federal government are not the, like, most high, like, exciting jobs to have have. And we just get rid of a lot of people. You got to make sure you're gonna be able to replace them. Right. So I do worry about that, but at the same time, again, maybe this Happens all the time. And we just don't have the videos and everybody's paying attention. I just don't really know the answer.
Shannon The Dude
I don't think this happens all the time.
Matt Jones
You don't think it happens all the time?
Shannon The Dude
I think we would definitely hear about it if so.
Matt Jones
I mean, the crash obviously doesn't happen all the time, but what about the near misses?
Drew Franklin
It seems like there's a lot more. I'm the opposite of you and Shannon. I've not one time had any anxiety about flying. But I'm telling you right now, I'm going to Cancun this summer and I'm probably gonna drive. Drive. I'm gonna drive to Mexico.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
This is the first time I've ever been like, do I really want to fly anytime soon? Because it just seems there's been more numbers might show different, but I've seen a lot more video than I've seen in the past.
Matt Jones
Here's what I've. Here's what I've thought in the last few months. I think there's a lot of things that we rely on the government to do that we just don't think about. We just like, assume they're gonna happen and then all of a sudden when they don't happen, you're like, whoa. You know, the FAA is one of those, like. I've always just taken for granted this idea of like planes not hitting each other, you know, and maybe it's just been clear in the last little bit that they can if you're not careful.
Drew Franklin
So this latest one would have been awful if that pilot hadn't seen that and pulled up. I mean, that whoever that was deserved.
Matt Jones
Shout out to whoever that pilot.
Drew Franklin
Pilot was.
Matt Jones
Who's up next? Shannon.
Shannon The Dude
Bruce.
Matt Jones
Bruce. Go ahead, Bruce.
Caller
You guys can't forget good old Junior from wwf.
Matt Jones
We started with him. That's the thing. Okay, all of it before. If you start later, then you go ahead. The.
Drew Franklin
I was going to tell you guys.
Matt Jones
I've been here setting up the state wrestling tournament. Being you this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Kentucky Horse park is the.
Caller
Girls and boys Kentucky high school state wrestling tournaments. We'd love to see everybody come out, support these amazing.
Matt Jones
Know this. Hang on a second, Bruce. Just slow down. There's a girls high school wrestling tournament? Yes, sir.
Caller
This is the second year. Last year, of course, was our first and this is our second year. It's girls only.
Matt Jones
They take people. Okay, just how many people participate in the girls high school wrestling?
Drew Franklin
There's 12 weight classes, the loudest being 100.
Caller
