Welcome to hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back our number two Kentucky Sports Radio 859-280-2287. We are now open for lunch here at the KS Bar and Grill. Let's go over a couple things Tomorrow our remote is at the Lexington SP Club, the the soccer complex out there on the edge of next to the Athens Boonsboro exit. It'll be at the stadium. You pull up and they will show you where we're going to be. We'll be you'll be able to see the new complex. We'll be giving stuff away. So that is tomorrow Ryan, 10 to noon for the show.
Ryan Lemon
I'm excited about it because they're going to take us on a little inside tour and I think even fans that come out there got a chance to win tickets and maybe get a tour. So be a lot of fun especially if you got any Interest at all in the soccer program. Get out there and watch. Check it out.
Matt Jones
Soccer team.
Ryan Lemon
Soccer team.
Matt Jones
Yes. Yeah, it's. But Lexington Sporting Club. Go see the new stadium. Get that. They have some great gear. I always. I look forward to getting some new gear.
Shannon The Dude
Not even a chance to win free tickets. It's. Everyone at the show gets two free tickets to the game.
Ryan Lemon
Nice.
Matt Jones
Look at that. Free tickets to the game on March 8th. So there you go. That will be. Remember, and I think Kentucky plays at noon that day and then the games later in the day. So you could do.
Ryan Lemon
Very cool.
Matt Jones
You could do both. So. 859280, 2287. Let's talk about a couple other things real quick before we get back to game. Gene Hackman was found dead this morning. He, his wife and his dog all found dead in their house. But foul play was not suspected. So you gotta think. What is that? You think like carbon monoxide?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, something like that. To get all. Both of them and the dog.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's. That really stinks. It does stink. But. But Gene Hackman had quite a life. I mean, let's see, what. What is he best known for? Probably Ryan would say the coach on Hoosiers.
Ryan Lemon
Normandale, head coach of the Hickory Huskers and Hoosiers.
Matt Jones
It's. That's like your favorite movie.
Ryan Lemon
It is the best movie, I think, ever made.
Matt Jones
Ever.
Ryan Lemon
Ever.
Matt Jones
Okay, so that's. And then what else. He played in Crimson Tide. Wasn't that with. With Denzel? Shannon, do you have a Gene Hackman movie?
Drew Franklin
Behind Enemy Lines? I love that movie.
Shannon The Dude
All right, that's mine too. Shannon. I love that movie also. He was the Coach and the Replacements. He won an Academy Award early on for the French Connection.
Matt Jones
He's in a really good movie that has kind of gotten forgotten to history, but is like one of the really good 70s movies. The Conversation. Have you ever seen that?
Ryan Lemon
No.
Matt Jones
French Connection's good too. I. It. I don't know if it stands up as well, just because it's like. Well, but I don't mean to criticize. I think it's. I think it's very good. He was in Royal Tannenbaums.
Ryan Lemon
Okay.
Matt Jones
Played. Played Lex Luthor.
Shannon The Dude
Oh, yeah. The original Superman.
Matt Jones
The original Superman. I also think he was good in a movie. It was called maybe Mississippi Burning. Yeah, that was like in the. Maybe the late 80s, something like that.
Shannon The Dude
Enemy of the State and Behind Enemy Lines. I guess I'm big when he has Enemy in the title. Those are my two favorites, so rest.
Matt Jones
In peace to Gene Hackman. Also, I think he. He was nominated. He was in Bonnie and Clyde. If you. For people who, like, want to go.
Ryan Lemon
Was he really?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I think he got. He's been nominated for. Here Are the movies he was nominated for the Conversation, French Connection, Bonnie and Clyde. He was nominated for Mississippi Burning, Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood. You remember that? It doesn't look like you remember that. And then he's just. He did a lot of television later in his life.
Shannon The Dude
So how about 95 years old? Would anyone have guessed that I had him being young?
Matt Jones
That is. That's quite old. All right, so full life.
Shannon The Dude
There you go.
Matt Jones
A full life. How about that? Rest in peace to Gene Hackman, then. We got to make fun of Louisville for a second. Okay. So, you know, yesterday we just happened to talk about this Fan Steak thing. And I said, like, it's just. I don't know. Like, I don't know what I think about that. Right. Like, I. I think it's a little. I don't know. So Fan Steak, that's the company, if you're a member who, like, you can give money to them and they pledge it to a recruit, and then if the recruit picks that school, I guess they get the money. So they did an ad campaign with ksr, the website. Now, I'll remind you, first of all, I don't own ksr, the website anymore, so I don't control what they do. I still have, you know, a consulting kind of role with them, but I don't, like, control it. So I didn't even know they did this. But. But Fan Steak basically said, if you use the code KSR, we'll give you 25 free dollars to give to a team. And the reason they did that is they were trying to get the big blue nation involved.
Ryan Lemon
Right, right.
Matt Jones
So our KSR writers tweet out here, use this code, free 25 Louisville fans who seem to have the collective intelligence sometimes of geese, somehow turn that into, they think I'm giving $25, like, out of my pocket to these recruits. Not now. Yesterday morning, I was very clear. I don't even think this is a good idea. Right, right. But they had turned it into, Matt Jones is giving 25 away to the recruits. Let's pull one over on him, and let's use their code and give it to Louisville. So again, the intellectuals on the Internet just. They keep doing it, which is fine. You're giving this Nate Amit kid money, I guess, assuming he gets the money. But it became, like, online, we've cost Matt Jones $40,000 when Nate Ammon picks Louisville. Well, I wasn't online a lot in the afternoon and then I look and everybody's like, you got old. We go own you. We're gonna make you broke 40. You going out of my jeep, go be in the poor house. Cause of Louisville. And I was like, you are the biggest suckers in the world. First of all, there are a million codes to that thing.
Shannon The Dude
They have their own code.
Matt Jones
They have their. Louisville has their own code. You used our code.
Shannon The Dude
Actually, you probably helped KSR get the credit.
Matt Jones
Here's the thing. Ks, you all made KSR money every time you used the code. KSR got money. So the reason I wasn't stopping you is because you buffoons were handing our company money. You could have. There was a code for Louisville, there was a code for your websites that would have given your websites money. And instead you foolish people gave us money. And guess what? We ain't paying it. Whether you go or not, this company, I guess will pay it. I don't know if they will or not, but these idiots thought they had somehow pulled one over on Kentucky when all they did was make KSR money. That's all you did. And when he doesn't pick Louisville and he picks Duke or Arkansas or Kentucky or whatever, you will have given us money and accomplished nothing except three hours of patting yourself on the back and thinking you did something. So we thank you. You know, I get a revenue share of the, of the profit from ksr. The check will be a few dollars more next year because of you buffoons.
Ryan Lemon
Thank you all. Very well done. Well done. Yes, we a heartfelt thank you.
Matt Jones
But is that not insane?
Ryan Lemon
It is.
Matt Jones
And they honestly were bragging and I had one dude who just kept writing me going, how's it gonna feel to write that forty thousand dollar check? I'm like, you can't really believe that I would write a forty thousand dollar check to Nate Amit to go to Louisville. You think we would have set up a business where I would have to do that? Like, stop it. I mean, if I wanted to give Nate Amit money, I would just give it to him directly and have him do ads for KS Bar would not.
Ryan Lemon
I believe that would be.
Matt Jones
Why would I go through fan steak?
Shannon The Dude
I was at the baseball game and I saw you before the pregame show or sit on the couch and I was like, somebody said we got burned. Did we get burned? I don't feel burned. I didn't even know it was going on, to be honest. And just haven't had one thought about it since you just brought it up.
Matt Jones
The other thing is, Nate, Amen. Is getting offered in IL packages upward of $2 million. Do y'all really think he's gonna pick his college based on whether or not he gets 35, 000 Louisville? Like, stop it.
Ryan Lemon
He's.
Matt Jones
He's getting like a 2 million wherever he goes. It ain't gonna be because of that. Right?
Ryan Lemon
You explained this yesterday. I don't even know how this is even going to be, how to work, how this would even.
Matt Jones
In theory. The theory is that everyone puts money in for their team, and then if he picks your team, he gets the money. And if he picks the other team, you get your money.
Ryan Lemon
Get your money back.
Matt Jones
That's the theory behind it.
Ryan Lemon
Good luck with that.
Matt Jones
There you go.
Shannon The Dude
I'm never gonna recover from yesterday's burn, though. I don't even know how I got up this morning.
Matt Jones
I'm gonna go eat at Chipotle today, thanks to you Louisville fans. And I'm gonna get the guac. Oh, because of you, I'm.
Ryan Lemon
Slow down.
Matt Jones
I'm gonna get the guac.
Shannon The Dude
You know what? Get a second guac. Just throw it on the ground because you got so much money now.
Matt Jones
Who's next?
Drew Franklin
Pierce.
Matt Jones
Pierce. Go ahead, Pierce.
Caller
Hey, guys. Have you seen the show Severance?
Matt Jones
Yes.
Caller
Okay.
Matt Jones
You'Re gonna have to move faster. Keep going. What is it?
Shannon The Dude
I. I think we need.
Caller
I think we need to put this.
Matt Jones
Punk Billy in the break room.
Shannon The Dude
I think that's where he needs to go.
Caller
He needs to learn his lesson.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, I think, Billy, there is an argument, Shannon. For punishment. I appreciate the call now. I mean, like, not because he did anything wrong, but because we have to have better judgment, you know, like you have. I can't remember the last time you've upset me with a call like. Like with a. With a producing decision. I mean, you're a producer. Do you have sympathy for him or do you blame.
Drew Franklin
I mean, a little bit. I mean, like we've said, we've had these conversations with callers. Don't call every single show.
Matt Jones
But she doesn't call every show.
Drew Franklin
Well, see, I don't know Heather in that situation.
Matt Jones
This was her third straight show. But, like, she probably calls one out of every five or six, right?
Drew Franklin
And it's not every day. Like, the call in show is that we're on right now where it's every single day you're calling. So it's a little bit different.
Matt Jones
And it's also 1:30 in the morning.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So, like.
Drew Franklin
But I defend Billy a little bit though.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew Franklin
But I don't like that she cried.
Matt Jones
That.
Drew Franklin
That kind of made me feel bad for that she got that upset.
Ryan Lemon
I think you got to read the room sometimes understand what she's been through. She never calls the morning shows. It's always just the post game show.
Matt Jones
And I looked. It was 1:38 in the morning. You know, at 1:38 in the morning. Unless it's Bob in Jamestown, I'm for.
Ryan Lemon
I want him to call today to talk about Ellie.
Matt Jones
How about Ellie? Another home run. He is hitting 650 right now in spring trade. He's hitting 650 and Matt McClain three for three yesterday. I mean, the summer of Ellie is here. Mario, I need you to get excited about Ellie. I also need Ryan to not talk about your hair anymore after the pregame show yesterday. That was. That was quite a.
Shannon The Dude
It was a fun pre game.
Ryan Lemon
It was one of my favorite pregame shows we've ever done.
Shannon The Dude
The ball we talked. I mean, it's just breaking down film.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, just. I don't know that it was random. If you just turned on the radio and you heard pause Ryan Lemon go, I have a black son. I didn't. I don't know that that was necessary for the morning show, but it's good.
Ryan Lemon
For the pregame show. Fits in the pregame show.
Matt Jones
Oh, you think that's good for the pregame? It was a 6:30 start, even if it's not necessary. Okay, gotcha. Who's up next? Good thing is there's no tape of that one. So there you go.
Drew Franklin
Mark Anthony.
Matt Jones
Mark Anthony, go ahead.
Caller
Hey, Matthew Ryan, Drew Shannon. Hey. I know a few UofL fans where I'm at and they are some 40 watt bugs. But just the same, Pope likes to say that the game rewards you or punishes you, depending on how you play it, whether you play hard and play well. Ortega got rewarded last night. He was the example of that old phrase, refuse to lose. He wasn't going to come out there with nail, bless his heart. And I was real happy to see Brandon Garrison on defense at least four different times. Smother dudes. And I don't want to be blasphemous or anything, but there were shades of Willie there a few times. And I slow down. If you can do it, if you can do it. Well, I say don't want to be blasphemous. Yeah, but you can do it. If you can do it four or five times, you can do it every time. And I think coach Pope's going to take those clips from the film and show him. You see what you did? You see what you did?
Matt Jones
No, he did a great job. Like, he did a great job. I appreciate the call. And I was more impressed about Garrison's defense than anything because he slid his feet. He's. He's always been, to me, drew a little awkward, right? Like, just kind of a little. It just doesn't feel like he completely is grown into his body and. But like, he looked like a defender in that second half. And you see where, you know, he's the one guy that NBA scouts say could play in the league. I think you saw that last night as to why they say that, at least, right?
Shannon The Dude
Hopefully it's a breakthrough. And I used the Willie comparison at the beginning of the show. Guarding guards. I mean, he's not. But the fact that you got a big man that gets switched on Jeremiah Fears and can shut him down, that. That's pretty rare. And hopefully that'll continue. It makes me wonder some of the guards we've already faced being shorthanded if they could have gone to that in the past. But it was such a good game. And I think the key was his. His baby son being there. And I'm. Ryan, I'm sorry, but I think Brandon's baby needs to be at all games.
Matt Jones
The baby was at the press conference.
Ryan Lemon
At the press conference, too.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
He wanted to show off for his son.
Shannon The Dude
So is that all right with you, Brian? Can baby Garrison start coming more games? Because it. Clearly he played well because of that.
Ryan Lemon
That's a. If Brandon's gonna play like that, I think baby Garrison is welcome to every game.
Matt Jones

When you're talking about guilty pleasure songs, this is like, if it's not number one for me, it's up there. Like, I don't want to like it. Would you like it? But I do because it's. I mean, and this is crazy. So here's my number. Call me maybe. Come on now. How could you not like this song?
Ryan Lemon
Harvard baseball team videos. The first thing I think of when we hear this song.
Matt Jones
You think of the Harvard baseball team.
Ryan Lemon
It was like one of the first viral videos ever. They did a thing while they were all in a van going to a road game and they did a little thing to this song.
Matt Jones
I don't remember that. I have no idea what you're talking about. I do know that I like this song. I will say you can bring about any group of people and this is a song that'll get them going. Like you. You be anywhere. And this, this starts playing and people like, all right, I can. I can get with this.
Shannon The Dude
I've mentioned this before. My friends and I have a game that's gone almost 10 years where we have a song and if it comes on while we're out, you have to buy around. And this is mine.
Ryan Lemon
This is your song.
Shannon The Dude
I've actually been to a Carly Rae Jepsen concert by myself because that's my song.
Matt Jones
I said Miley. It's Carly Rae Jepsen. Why did I say Miley? You're right.
Shannon The Dude
But this is my shot song.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
So I'll get around at the break.
Matt Jones
She's still around. Like, what does she do now?
Shannon The Dude
Just living off this money, I assume.
Ryan Lemon
Probably.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Carly Ray. All right. I like that.
Shannon The Dude
Great. Canadian.
Matt Jones
859280, 22, 87. The UK and Tennessee Women's teams play tonight. Big game for the Cats. We need to get a big win. You know, we lost Texas. We were never really close. Should have beat lsu, I think. Didn't. But now you got Tennessee at home tonight. Sold out. Rockin Memorial Coliseum. This would be a big game for Kenny. I think it would guarantee him a top four seed. It would probably guarantee him a first round buy in the SEC tournament. Massive game and you're playing Tennessee. You want to get a win.
Ryan Lemon
I hope they have a good bounce back performance because they had that. They had LSU beat down what, 16 points? They were at about 16.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
Kind of couldn't hang on.
Matt Jones
Came back and took the lsu, came back, got up eight and then took the lead again.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. So they show they can play with the superior teams of the conference. Should give him some confidence going to the Tennessee game tonight.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So hopefully we will. Hopefully we'll get. We'll get a victory tonight.
Shannon The Dude
Three and a half point underdog. I just read it from the.
Matt Jones
From the app Kentucky is.
Caller
Yep.
Matt Jones
Okay. So also if you are in Lexington for tonight for Kentucky, Tennessee or the Blake Shelton concert, we will have like pregame festivities here. We're going to be playing some Blake Shelton. The UK women's game will be on here tonight. So get your family, friends or just people you meet on the street and come by here.
Ryan Lemon
You think Blake Shelton talks a little trash tonight while he's up on stage?
Matt Jones
He can't. He lost.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. You think he'll say anything we talk trash to him? Okay.
Matt Jones
You scream at him and go bbn.
Shannon The Dude
Maybe some go big blue chips. Don't throw anything or don't do Oklahoma behavior but let them know they won.
Matt Jones
So besides old red, give me a Blake Shelton song.
Shannon The Dude
Oh, boy.
Ryan Lemon
Honeybee.
Matt Jones
How's that go?
Ryan Lemon
You can go to the website. It's right there.
Matt Jones
Give me a sense.
Ryan Lemon
You know, I'm horrible at this. You know, you be. You can be my honeybee.
Matt Jones
It's called you can be my honeybee.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, you can be my honeybee. No, that's not how it goes.
Matt Jones
That's not how it goes. But you're singing. You can be my bodyguard.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, that's what I was going crazy.
Matt Jones
And I can call you Frank and you can call me Sally. Like that's not how it goes.
Ryan Lemon
No, that's not how it goes. So how's it go, honeybee?
Matt Jones
I, I. You keep saying the word. I'm asking you how the song goes.
Ryan Lemon
I need some help. Shannon. Can Shannon find it?
Drew Franklin
I can play it for you.
Matt Jones
All right, well, no, Play old red. That's what I want to hear when we come.
Drew Franklin
He had Austin. You know that song?
Matt Jones
Oh, Austin, of course. Yeah. If this is Austin, I still love you.
Drew Franklin
And boys around here chew to back stupid.
Matt Jones
I've heard that song. I hate it, but I've heard that. Some beach some but each. Yeah, I hate that song too.
Drew Franklin
Hillbilly.
Matt Jones
I like Austin. I don't know hillbilly bone, but I can guarantee you I wouldn't like it. I also, I don't know how I'm get off getting off on this, but you know how you get a song in your head.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And it just, it just stays there for me. Yesterday I could not get my cousin's song out with that old out Colorado. And then I noticed something. You always make fun of how I say the state to the south of us.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Matt Jones
That's how he says it.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, in the song.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I could tell she'd love eastern Tennessee. That's how he says it.
Ryan Lemon
It's gotta be something about that part of the country.
Matt Jones
Yes. Before. While I take this call. Find sand in my boot, Shannon. And just get to the chorus where he's. And listen to how he says Tennessee. You've made fun of me for saying it. And he's from there and he's from where I was around.
Ryan Lemon
So that's probably. Probably. Everybody says it that way down there.
Matt Jones
Needful accent.
Shannon The Dude
Something about the way she kissed me tells me she loves eastern Tennessee. There you go.
Ryan Lemon
Tennessee.
Matt Jones
We'll play the actual thing, and then you can compare, which is better. All right, who's next? Okay, turn it up. Yes. I mean, I. Even though he's my cousin, I'm not a huge fan of his music, but I do like this song.
Ryan Lemon
It is a good song.
Matt Jones
See, that's exactly how I said you crazy me for years for saying.
Ryan Lemon
Because you guys are the only people that say it that way.
Matt Jones
Tennessee.
Ryan Lemon
Tennessee.
Matt Jones
Who's next?
Ryan Lemon
Tv.
Drew Franklin
Connor.
Matt Jones
Halloween.
Ryan Lemon
Halloween.
Matt Jones
Connor. Go ahead. Connor. Hey, Matt.
Caller
Good to talk to you again. Set right behind the UK bench last night. And, man, that was one of the best basketball games I've ever seen. I cannot believe you said I didn't know that. He stayed after the game inside the arena. I went outside, and we were standing.
Matt Jones
By the bus with about seven people. You missed it. He signed 100, they said. Adam said around 150 autographs. Right.
Shannon The Dude
And we.
Caller
And I stood by that bus for over an hour. I got my pictures with Pope and. And with some of the players, but, yeah, I didn't know he stayed in the arena. I would buy the bus for over an hour outside, so that's pretty crazy. But, man, Amari came out of that. Out of that arena to enter the bus, and that ankle was wrapped up pretty heavy, and he was. He was limping pretty hard, so hopefully he can get. Get right by this weekend, but I'm pretty nervous about that.
Matt Jones
There's a part for this Auburn game. There's a part of me that would say, if anybody's not for certain, able just sit it out. I want to win. But, like, you can. Come in, fellas. Come on in.
Ryan Lemon
Peeking through the window.
Matt Jones
Peeking through the. Come on. There you go. Pull. There it is. Well done. He looks. He's peeking through the window like he'd never been inside a building before. All right, but do you agree? I appreciate the call. Do you agree with that? Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
You hate to have the surrender mentality. I mean, they could still win, but just looking at what it would mean to the team if you lose, it would not really impact you at all. Auburn's so good they're running away with the regular season title. I mean, if anything, it would help you out in SEC seating, but it's not really going to impact your NCAA seating. So if someone has the potential or they're kind of close and hurt themselves by playing again, I would understand leaving them on ice in that one.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. Losing to Auburn doesn't necessarily really hurt you. I'd rather have those. Everybody as healthy as possible for lsu, Missouri in the.
Matt Jones
I will say, though, if you win this game, you can be a two seed in the tournament.
Ryan Lemon
Crazy.
Matt Jones
Like, all of a sudden. I mean, if you were to win this game, I think you are a 2 seed in the tournament because Texas A and M is a two right now and they just lost at home. So this is Honeybee Paul's, exactly what you were singing.
Drew Franklin
You like this song?
Matt Jones
I have, yeah.
Drew Franklin
Because he says, I'll be your Conway Twitter.
Matt Jones
That was, that was a. That was the day I was in Ambian. I think. We'll be right back. It's ksr. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call tj. He'll make him pay.
Drew Franklin
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
It's a good song.
Ryan Lemon
Didn't you say Larry loves this song?
Matt Jones
This is the. That's the only. That's the reason I like it is it's just like Larry. The only music that I know Larry likes is he likes classical music. So he would turn on a station that literally played like, you know, concertos and stuff. And then he likes gospel music, like secular music that's not classical. I don't even know what he likes because I don't know that he's ever been to a concert that I know of. But then he likes this song. Yeah, like, it's the only song. If you were to say to me, what is a song Larry Blondell likes outside of, like, hymns? This is the only one I know. So you know, that's what I associate.
Ryan Lemon
This song with now, because you told that story.
Shannon The Dude
I don't know.
Matt Jones
It's about a dog going to, like, hook up with another dog.
Shannon The Dude
Did Larry have a dog you love? Is there a dog connection?
Matt Jones
Maybe that's it.
Ryan Lemon
Maybe he had a dog named Old Red when he was a kid.
Matt Jones
I always, just for some reason, it always makes me. Makes me laugh. 859-280-2287. Let me give you your DraftKings NCAA championship picks. You go to DraftKings code KSR. Here are the odds right now for the men's title from DraftKings. Which of these do you think is the best bet? You could only bet one of these. Which do you want to bet? Auburn is plus 300. They're the favorite. That means three to one. Duke is plus 345. Houston is plus 750. Florida is plus 875. Alabama's plus 900. If you had to place a bet on one of those things, what would you do?
Ryan Lemon
I. I'll go first.
Matt Jones
I'll.
Ryan Lemon
I would take Alabama at plus 900.
Matt Jones
I got. Just because it's the most odds.
Ryan Lemon
I know and I think they are really, really good.
Matt Jones
So you're taking Alabama?
Ryan Lemon
I'm taking Alabama.
Matt Jones
What about you, Drew?
Shannon The Dude
Easy pick for me. I think Houston is going to be my team to win it all this year. You're telling me I get. What was it? 750? Almost 8 to 1. That'd be my play.
Matt Jones
When you and I talk gambling, we like share a brain. I see that. And the one that sticks out is Houston +750 because I think Houston can win it. I think Houston plays a style that is really built for the NCAA tournament. And again, they've had a great defense for the last seven years. But now they have a great offense this year and that's not been something they've had a lot of years. Houston at +750. I really like Kelvin Sampson. Is he the best? No one talks about coach in the country. I mean think about that. He wanted Indiana, then he had to leave for the phone calls. And Houston, a program you haven't thought about since Hakeem and Clyde Drexler. He has turned into a perennial contender. They are a contender every single year with players we don't even know ever.
Ryan Lemon
Houston's been the conversation for our number one seed. You're right. For like the last four or five years before Indiana. Was he at Oklahoma and had really good success at Oklahoma?
Matt Jones
He had. I think. Didn't he take him to the Final Four in Oklahoma?
Ryan Lemon
I think he did.
Matt Jones
I think he did. I think he took him to with.
Shannon The Dude
Well, he went from Oklahoma to Indiana and then he had to disappear to the NBA when he got that show cause penalty or whatever it was. And then Houston was his first job back. So they've been knocking on that door since he's been there.
Matt Jones
I just think he deserves a lot of credit. And he's also like 70.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And he still is killing it.
Ryan Lemon
Is he the best coach? Not. Has active coaches not won a Tournament. I mean, it's a crown.
Shannon The Dude
Crown is yours.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I bet. I think Kelvin Sampson's the best coach to not win a title. I think that's a fair. Would you agree with that? Him or Mark Few?
Ryan Lemon
Oh, yeah, that would be a good. Be a good argument. Those two guys right there.
Shannon The Dude
Well, I just looked at it since Kentucky knocked him out when that was a good team. And hero hit the game winner. They've gone final four, elite eight, sweet 16. Sweet 16. I mean, they're. They're in the mix every year.
Matt Jones
Every year.
Ryan Lemon
And like you said, this year they've got a good offense to go with that great defense they've had for several years.
Matt Jones
But can you name one of their players? No, that's what's crazy. I can't name one player. Do you. Can you name one of their players?
Shannon The Dude
No. I watched the Arizona game thinking they would lose. I shouldn't be able to name on watch the game. But I saw he's got like two.
Matt Jones
Top 15 recruits I don't think he's ever gotten before, so should be interesting. Who's up next?
Drew Franklin
David.
Matt Jones
David. Go ahead, David. Hey, Matt. Hey, David. How are you? Good. You were talking about. First of all, you were talking about Gene Hackman earlier. You forgot one. Another one of his great performances. He was the blind man and young Frankenstein, remember? Oh, yeah. I haven't seen that in a long time, but good memory.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, I watched it.
Caller
I watched it last summer, I believe, and it was fun.
Matt Jones
Anyway, I want to talk about Ortega. Always.
Ryan Lemon
He was.
Matt Jones
Since we were talking about Hackman.
Caller
He was like Superman last night.
Matt Jones
He was like Superman, man. I mean, he literally otega away scored in every way you could score. He hit a big three. Drew mentioned earlier. He took it to the basket and what's crazy, he had 28 and he probably could have had 40 if he made his layups. I mean, like, he. He was. He really was awes.
Shannon The Dude
And I'll add Brandon Garrison gets credit for the final block, but if you look really closely away, blocked it into Garrison's hand. So that. That should be always block that saved the game.
Matt Jones
You're exactly right. So, David. Yes. It was a Superman kind of performance.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And I was with you. I was worried that they were going to call technical on Brandon Garrett.
Ryan Lemon
I was like, doug Shells, are you.
Matt Jones
Gonna do that again? You know, he didn't pick up Isaac Humphrey when Doug went to the monitor. I appreciate the call. I was about to go in my archives and find that picture that he doesn comes out from when he Was sitting there at that ref camp.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
When they showed the replay, Garrison really didn't touch him. He just kind of walked up to him, was talking trash.
Matt Jones
Like, they've changed that rule. You. You're not allowed to get in someone's face after a play.
Ryan Lemon
Well, he definitely did.
Shannon The Dude
That was an aggressive confrontation.
Matt Jones
There's a specific written rule now in college basketball that you can't do that.
Ryan Lemon
If there was 0.1 second on the clock, you think they would have called it?
Matt Jones
Well, you know, so it's interesting. Porter Moser, the Oklahoma coach, said they told him that they were reviewing to see if he did that. I got a text message from a ref last night that said they could have called that even if the clock.
Ryan Lemon
Was over, even if it was zero.
Matt Jones
Even if it was over that as long as the refs are on the court, they could have called that. Now, he said, I think that would have been, like, you could imagine what the reaction to that would have been. But. But he's got to be careful. I mean, you're right. You said this earlier, Drew Amari picked him up and carried him down.
Shannon The Dude
One bad leg took him across the.
Matt Jones
Court, and he still wouldn't stop. Like, he still was trying to go.
Shannon The Dude
Even in the handshake line. Amari's got him in a full bear hug, trying to get him to calm.
Ryan Lemon
Down, and he's still mouthing at him the whole time.
Shannon The Dude
I liked at the end, oh, way supposed to be going to the interview and poor Deb Moore's dragging him by his jersey, trying to get him over to do his postgame with espn. It was just chaotic scene. Also, I love that Oklahoma put up the rope and had the security guards to keep him from storming the court. And just save that for next time. They had surrounded it thinking they had that one.
Matt Jones
It did feel like to me there at the end that away was. Or not. Oh, excuse me. Garrison was maybe a little out of control, like, because, like, Amari was holding him back, having to carry him. Then he gets in the line and basically the handshake line just ends because he. He can't stop. There was a sense where I thought, like, somebody needs to get this dude in the locker room.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. Some of those Oklahoma guys would come over to shake always hand. As soon as they got close, Brandon Garreton's yelling and pointing at him. So they get close to the UK bench.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So luckily we got out of there without a scene. That could have been worse, especially with that beer being thrown. Like, the whole thing could have Been a lot worse. Who's next?
Drew Franklin
Adam.
Matt Jones
Adam. Go ahead, Adam.
Caller
Hey, Matt, I got a love you, but y'all are burying the post game story. Billy, there was a caller that called in saying that he was, you know, trying to get his kid to bed and the kid got back up and he let him watch the end of the game. And then you said that you related because in 94, your parents put you to bed and you missed the end of the 31 point comeback against LSU. Which I relate because I was eight years old and I was exact. In the exact same situation.
Matt Jones
But you're gonna say that I was 15, right? Is that what you're gonna say?
Caller
Exactly.
Matt Jones
I was 15. Okay, so let me, Let me explain that because I did say this, and this is true. I appreciate the call. I missed the 94 comeback because I had to go to bed. And the next day Larry said, by the way, we won. And I told that story last night because this guy was talking about his kid who was like 11 that did that. And then people last night kept writing me and going, but, like, weren't you 15? Yes, but I had a curfew. Yeah, like, I. I mean, they didn't say go to bed, sleep, but like, the TV was off at that time and especially, like. And it. I just, I had to turn it off. Like, there was a. I think that probably ended later that year when I turned 16, but I was there. You know, my parents are wonderful, but there was some strict, you know, I was some strict guidelines in my house. So, like, yes, I was 15. But that didn't mean the rules didn't apply because they stayed with those. My rules probably stayed until at least 16.
Shannon The Dude
They were down 30. You probably thought it was okay to go to bed at that point.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, I probably didn't put up a fight. We were down by 30.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I can't watch this anymore.
Matt Jones
So I was like, okay.
Ryan Lemon
And then if that was a weeknight, that's a school night.
Matt Jones
And it was a 9:00 game. Yeah, it was a 9:00 game on a school night on ESPN2, if you remember.
Ryan Lemon
Was it?
Matt Jones
Yeah. Which for Joe, Middlesbrough was there. Do you remember how ESPN2 came about?
Ryan Lemon
Tell me.
Matt Jones
ESPN2 came on and there was a few weeks where Middlesbrough was the only station that had it. I don't know how, but people were not. The cable companies were not paying for espn too. And one year espn, they were desperate to make the cable companies do it. They put Duke, Carolina and Kentucky Arkansas on ESPN, too. And that was basically forced the cable companies to take it because they were like, unless you want to tell your viewers they can't see uk, Arkansas, you got to do it. And then all the cable providers took.
Ryan Lemon
It based on those two basketball games.
Matt Jones
Think about those years. Those were the games, those years. They put them both on ESPN2 one year.
Shannon The Dude
I remember that. And I remember thinking it was like, oh, this is like they're being bad boys. Like, look at these graphics. Like they're not even. They're not using uppercase letters. It's like a grunge font. Those are awesome.
Matt Jones
The two people that hosted the nightly show on ESPN2, the very first one, they were on every night. Anybody know who are they? Keith Olbermann and Susie Colbert.
Caller
Really?
Matt Jones
And Keith Olbermann slicked his hair back and he had a leather jacket on. And Susie Colbert was smoking.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
At that time. And the two of them, they were like, bad boy, attractive woman. Here we go. It's sports with an edge. Smart. It was hard ESPN tonight, but the 2 was a 2.
Shannon The Dude
That stuff like that blew my mind. Like, oh, they didn't even write the word tonight. This channel's crazy. They're using lowercase on the scoreboard. How do they get away with this?
Matt Jones
Two instead of two? Volunteers of America. Mid States is part of national volunteers of America. 125 years old, helps with housing, veteran support, shelter, justice and more. People with developmental and intellectual disabilities use VOA Midstates and they have a new facility in Louisville right in downtown, the community care campus for unhoused individuals to access a variety of service. If you or someone you know could use their help. Voamid.org that's VOA Mid.org for Volunteers of America. 502-636-0771 or VOA Mid.org we'll take a break and come back. Final segment here at KS Bar. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. Tuckee Sports Radio. Here it's KS Bar and Grill. A couple things here. First, we're open for lunch today. Blake Shelton pregame. UK Tennessee women's pre game. Have a little party here and then the game tonight. You can come watch it. UK women in Tennessee. I believe it's on. Is on SEC network or SEC Network. SEC Network.
Shannon The Dude
7:00, 7:00. Number 15 versus number 11.
Matt Jones
Big time game tonight. Second, we're opening at 10:00am on Saturday for the UK Auburn game because the games at 1. Our pregame will be at 10:30. We're opening at 10, but we're serving regular food so you could just get like, you know, wings and all that at 10am why not?
Ryan Lemon
Beer still. Get your mimosa and just have it with your wings.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So that'll be that Saturday. Today is also National Chili Day. Did you know that?
Ryan Lemon
Oh, I'm telling. We've got really good chili here.
Matt Jones
So we have good chili here you meet. Also tonight I'm going to celebrate with my good friends at Skyline just to tell them hi and honor them for their service to America. So that's kind of cool. Why? Why? What's your pause?
Ryan Lemon
Your love and affinity for Skyline chili just blows my mind.
Matt Jones
Why does it blow your mind?
Ryan Lemon
Because it's not good.
Drew Franklin
Oh, you bought your tongue.
Matt Jones
Why don't you like Skyline? It's awesome.
Ryan Lemon
I do not like it. I like, I love the chili here. I get it once a week.
Matt Jones
But Skyline has a whole thing like it's got, it's like got tradition, it's got, got, it's, it's cinnamony, but it's also spicy and it's fun and you just, you got nothing cracker. The oyster crackers and the hot sauce they got, their hot sauce is so uniquely them. And it's good.
Ryan Lemon
Maybe my palate, it just enjoys the high level chili, not this low level Skyline chili.
Matt Jones
It's different, but it's good.
Ryan Lemon
It's definitely different.
Matt Jones
You're different. Who's next?
Drew Franklin
Eugene.
Matt Jones
Eugene, how are you? Eugene? I.
Caller
Fellas, how y'all doing today? Good to talk to you.
Ryan Lemon
Wow.
Matt Jones
Good to talk to you, Eugene.
Caller
I agree with Ron there that Skyline ain't for me, man. That's preach. It not tasting good, but. Yeah, that's right. Ryan knows what he's talking about. I was calling to say, you think in the long run that these boys being hurt like they was for so many games and then coming back where other players has gotten some play in time is going to turn out to be a benefit for us rather than hope. So really hurting us. And if somebody's already asked yet, I don't. I'm sorry, I got to worry about.
Matt Jones
Good to hear from you, Eugene. Hope you're doing good. Appreciate the call. Could be, yes. I mean, for instance, last night when Lamont Butler fouls out, Travis Perry was able to hold down the fort. They basically switched offense to defense. Travis would play offense, Colin Chandler would play defense. You know, if, if, if Butler had not had those games out, I'm not sure Travis Perry would have been ready for that moment. Not sure Colin Chandler would have been ready for that moment, honestly. So to that expect that respect. Yeah, it could help.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I think it's definitely helped, especially with Perry. He's made a big jump. I mean, having to play 30 minutes at Texas and at Alabama as to as your first career starts.
Matt Jones
That's true.
Shannon The Dude
I know those were losses and you know, he. He wasn't the best in those games, but I think that did a lot for experience. And there might be a moment in the SEC tournament, NCAA tournament where he does something we can look extra time he got middle of the regular season is why he's playing that way.
Matt Jones
I did notice there were 20 seconds left and we were down one and they inbounded the ball to Travis Perry. And that kid could have been terrified, right? I mean, he could have on the road down one with the ball. He could have been terrified. And I know he didn't do anything special. He just dribbled the ball up the air, drove up the court and handed it to away. But I've watched him dribbled up the court and I thought that kid has confidence in this moment. I did not want him to then take the ball and go to the basket, but I did feel like he had confidence and I think that probably comes from playing these last few games.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, the blessing in disguise from those injuries are the fact these guys got a lot of minutes early. So when we needed them like last night, even Brandon Garrison getting the minutes that we don't really want him too early when he wasn't playing that well benefited him last night though.
Shannon The Dude
He's quicker to shoot too, which they need him to do. That pass from Trent Noah to Perry in the corner last night and Perry knocked down the three. I know that was a fun moment for all the Kentucky.
Matt Jones
I also don't know like on the back door cut where Garrison hit him and he went up for shot. I'm not sure if he would have taken that shot three weeks ago. He might have just run it right back out. Instead he took it, got the foul, made the free throws and, you know, got the points. Who's next?
Drew Franklin
Corey.
Matt Jones
Corey. Go ahead, Corey.
Caller
Playboys of the Southwestern world. Best Blake Shelton song. Chili Gillespie. My wife's favorite thing on the menu at KS Bar.
Ryan Lemon
Preach it.
Caller
Want to talk directly to Billy real quick? Billy R. McGregor should take this moment to apologize to absolutely no one. He is the only one that is protecting the airwaves from fraud, waste and abuse. Yeah, we need more kids saying RUP was fun. My favorite player is X. That was awesome, Billy. Don't listen to the haters. Keep us Efficient. Do the will of the people. You guys have a good one.
Ryan Lemon
Nice to Billy's dad.
Matt Jones
Broadways and abuse is a funny line there. No. You know, there does have to be some bad guys sometimes, you know. And now we'll give Billy credit for this. And Shannon's good at this too. They protect me from having to be the bad guy. Billy especially has some roles where he protects me from being the bad guy. Something comes up and I don't want to do it, but I don't want to hurt people's feelings and Billy. So I. That's why I don't get. Didn't get mad at Billy. I just don't think Heather was the person to draw the line on last night.
Shannon The Dude
And he acknowledged that. Yeah, I think it's just the. In the moment since he could have maybe been a little more sympathetic.
Drew Franklin
I think he got embarrassed when she jumped on and kind of threw him under the bus and said that he wouldn't allow her to call anymore. I think that's what happened there.
Matt Jones
I think so. But I, but I do want to take up for him. He does protect. Part of his job is to protect me from being the bad guy because it's bad for the show if I'm the bad guy. And he does that. And so I give him. I have a lot of. That's. That's why I take up for him. But he also can mess up sometimes too. Cornbread hemp dot com. If like last night, I'm on a maximum high after the game I had to try to get down Cornbread hemp. Cornbread hemp helped. Came home. Breathe. Relax. Full spectrum flour only hemp CBD gummies. They now have more powerful from 2mg to 4. They also have a 10. That ain't for me. But you all can do it. But it's all@cornbread hemp.com promo code KSR. Help you rest, rest, relax. Feel good with cornbread hemp. Tomorrow we are at Lexington Sporting Soccer Club. That's out there next to Wellsboro.
Shannon The Dude

Drew Franklin
