Nmlsconsumeraccess.Org welcome to hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Drew Franklin
Welcome back. Hour number two Kentucky Sports Radio. Couple open lines. Give us a shout 859-280-2287 Text machine is 772-774-5254. Mark Stoops is on here tomorrow. So got some breaking news Shannon I think is kind of interesting. Okay, running on Steph Curry announces he is going to take on the role while he plays for Golden State as the assistant GM for Davidson basketball. And he will also be donating over $10 million to nil for Davidson over the next 10 years or over the next 5 years. Excuse me. And will be assistant GM to help in the targeting and recruiting of players. How about that?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Wow. At a place like Davidson that's huge for somebody.
Drew Franklin
I mean that you got to think of stat. I mean how many schools in Davidson's league? I guess they're in the A10 now. But, I mean, I'd still say even if he gives a million dollars a year, Drew, he's gonna. I mean, they're gonna have more NIL funds than most of the teams they play against. And then you have Steph Curry as your gm. Like, that's pretty big for Davidson basketball, don't you think?
Ryan Lemon
Heck, yeah. I mean, say kids, down to three schools. All right, Steph, pick up the phone. Make one call. I'd say he could have a lot of influence on that and helping with nil. You know, he's got his own shoe. There's several ways he can give them a big bump.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I hope. I hope that keeps coming. Shannon. I think we have some players that played. Yeah, you know, Shay, the. The G. And Gilgis stands for General Manager Alexander or something. You know, I'm going to be interested to see, as a completely side note, as we get into the off season, how Pope is managing this roster. And, you know, a lot of schools are hiring official GMs, and we don't really have that. We have kind of some people sharing that role, but it's not really their title. I'm going to be really interested to see. See what happens. I was talking to someone this weekend that's kind of familiar with the NIL thing that basically said, look, we've got the funds to be as competitive as anyone in the country. The thing we don't know, Drew, is what the market is like. You know, the price for freshmen went up by a decent amount this year over last. Does it happen again with transfers? And what does that mean? So I think it's going to be interesting to see. I think one of the things that maybe hurt him with Caleb Wilson. We'll see what happens with Nate. Amen. Is that the price for these kids kind of went up in a way that people didn't foresee. It'll be interesting to see if that happens for transfers in college. I don't see, Drew, why it wouldn't, to be honest with you.
Ryan Lemon
And there's just so much more pressure to make sure you're hitting on the right guy. If you're writing his checks as big as some of these guys are going to command. And then when it's coming down to the dollar, you're going to need something a little bit to give you separation if everybody's just writing checks. And the suggestion you just made about following Curry's footsteps, if we have Devin Booker helping out, throwing in some sho and making phone calls, or Shay, you got to have Something that sets you apart. In addition to having the bank account.
Drew Franklin
We can't Shannon, have Reed shepherd calling and go, well, I'm kind of torn.
Matt Jones
You know, I played at Kentucky, but I've got a really good former coach at Arkansas, so you do what you want to do.
Drew Franklin
So.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
So what happens if one of our former players does that for Calipari at Arkansas?
Drew Franklin
I mean, it'll be bad. You saw what happened, Reed. It'll be worse, right? I mean, that's just, you know, guys like these dudes that played here, you got. You have guys like Willie, who is like, I'm Kentucky, period. You're going to have other guys who do like Reed, who sort of kind of tries along as Cal's the coach to walk the line. But what I would say to all these guys, just as a friendly thing, and obviously I'm biased because I'm a Kentucky person, but you got a long life ahead of you. And John, Cal, Peri is not going to coach forever, right? And you gotta be Kentucky first. Like, I'm not saying you don't help out your coach, but like, you know, in 30 years, Arkansas is not bringing you in if you didn't play there. They're just not. Whereas Kentucky is Ryan. And so I just, you know, I get it. I get you love your coach. I don't even mind you going and visiting, all that. But at the end of the day, you have one home, right? You have one home. And I hope they remember that because that really is ultimately the final thing.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah, it is interesting. Some of these players, they do feel that, I think, like you said, Willie, other guys, I'm not so sure. You know, I don't know. I'm just going to throw any out there. I know Emmanuel Quickley's ever been back. You know, guys like that. Some guys never come back, but other guys come back.
Drew Franklin
Well. But life's long, right? Maybe they do when they're 45, you know, I mean, there's Life's like, you know, everybody's different. But I do think, yes, to answer somebody's question, I remember if it was Drew or Shannon, if somebody came in and one of them became the assistant GM for Arkansas, I don't think our people would forget that. Although they. We did forget. Like, I think. Drew, nobody's mad at Tyler Euless, right?
Ryan Lemon
No, that's a guy trying to start a career and go into the best opportunity for him as assistant coach. I don't know whatever other offers he had. But in that case, follow, you know, Cal's Got this big coaching tree out there to be a part of that. I could see why he would have to follow him.
Drew Franklin
All right, I want to go, I want to do a couple of little sports controversies and get your alls take on. Let's start with this one. Shannon lebron confronted Stephen A. On the sidelines before a Lakers game and basically said, keep my kids name out your mouth and essentially said stop. He was mad that he was criticizing LeBron for, for his son and being in the league and all that stuff. And he confronted him on the sideline. Fair or foul?
Ryan Lemon
Speaker 3.
Matt Jones
I'm going foul on LeBron's part. Look, I'm not a fan of Stephen a. Smith, but LeBron, your son is in the NBA. It's not like he's picking on your kid who's in high school. He's now an NBA player. He's on the same playing field as everybody else in the NBA. So if he can be critical of LeBron, he, he can be critical of LeBron's son.
Drew Franklin
Drew.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, LeBron's way in the wrong. And this plays out exactly how we all expected when a year ago he's saying, my son's better than half the league. I'm going to do anything to play with my son. He set him up for this criticism where he's now in the G League and he's doing all right in the G League. But you're going to get talked about, especially when LeBron built him up as much as he did without even having to do that. So I think LeBron's absolutely in the wrong. Bronnie's a grown man. He's going to have to live with people being critical of him for the rest of his career. You don't have to call him out and get face to face like that.
Drew Franklin
Ryan, you're a dad.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I know. I think you guys may think that I may be taking LeBron's side, but I'm foul just because one, where it was on the sideline at a game. Come on, man, you know where Stephen A. Smith is. If you got a problem with, you can contact him some other way than doing it on the sideline of a game. And two, like Drew said, Bronnie's a grown man now. He put him. He chose to play in the NBA. He chose this route. And so you got to be open for the criticism that comes along with it sometimes.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I agree with all of you. I mean, Stephen a. A lot of his comments, I think go across the line about players. I think he's gotten way full of himself with that said, you put your kid in the NBA. This what's going to happen. Like, he wasn't ready. Not only was he not ready, you got him drafted to your team with the biggest spotlight. And this is exact. This was so predictable. Like. Like, this was so predictable. You cannot get angry for what you caused to happen. All right, let's go to the next one. Draymond, Shannon, and Carl Towns. Carl Towns missed a game against Golden State. Draymond goes on a podcast and says, I heard he's not coming because he's scared of Jimmy Butler because they had some difficulties when they both played in Minnesota. Turns out he was at a funeral. Carl Towns for a family friend. When Draymond's asked about it, he basically goes, oh, I didn't know that. Well, the Draymond and Baron Davis podcast will go on, Right? Doesn't even. He says he's sorry that he had to go the funeral, but did not apologize for saying it. I have strong feelings about this, but I will not spoil the pot. Shannon, I'll let you go first.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Draymond's an idiot. He opened his mouth and put his foot right in there. I mean, you gotta know what you're talking about before you come on a podcast and just start ripping into somebody for missing a game. I think it's a horrible look on his part and he should apologize. He's wrong.
Ryan Lemon
True one. This is big. I didn't know Baron Davis was on the podcast, so I learned that through this. That's it's going to go.
Drew Franklin
You mean Bart Oatmeal? That's his rap name. Bart Oatmeal, which I learned, too.
Ryan Lemon
So I guess it's going to go on now that I know about it. But Draymond had a chance to give a good apology there. He sent some condolences, but then just blowing past it, not really taking it back, and saying the show will go on. Jerk move by him. He could have handled that much better and shown a little more sympathy to the situation. Admitted being wrong.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Ryan, from somebody that says stupid stuff regularly and that stuff come out of their mouth, that is really wrong sometimes. He, like Drew, said he had the chance to apologize and make good on it, Especially since Carl's family friend was a female, died young of cancer. I mean, come on, man. Show some compassion. Be a human being. Don't be such a jerk.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. You know, he made the little comment, whatever. The worst thing that could happen is. You get, you know, something like that is why. Missed. I Would Shannon feel amazingly bad if I were Draymond, Right? Like, if I made a joke and then it turned out some. So I would, like, fall all over myself to apologize, right? I'd be like, so sorry. I'd call Carl. I'd like, send flowers to the funeral. I would feel really bad. The idea that he just goes, well, I'm sorry. You know, I hate that that happened. But then promotes his podcast at the end of it.
Matt Jones
That's one of the nonsense.
Drew Franklin
And when you promote, the show will go on. What a jerk. That is one of the biggest jerk moves I've ever seen. And Draymond thinks he's Charles Barkley, right? Like, that's what he thinks. But the thing about Charles Barkley is he can say stuff, but he's got a heart. He's empathetic, he's kind, and that's why people like it. Draymond is a jerk. And I thought that was. If I was Carl Towns, I would punch that dude in the face. Right? Like, I mean, that to me, that was an all timer. Some. You know, you make jokes, sometimes they don't work, but you have to apologize and to not apologize and then double down. I just thought was. Was hideous. Last thing. Michigan. Michigan State. It's Senior Day. I don't know if you saw this, Shannon. Michigan State beats Michigan. They have this thing at the end of Senior Day, whereas they walk the court. Their players kiss the logo as they walk. It's like a tradition under Tom Izzo. They're winning the game. They. They call, you know, they have the foul to do that. They walk off to kiss the court. Michigan players are standing on the logo, refused to move while they kiss the court. Then one of the other players comes from Michigan State and basically pushes the Michigan guys to get them off the logo, and a fight ensues. Who's at fault? The Michigan guys for standing on the logo or the Michigan State people for thinking people need to get off the logo while they kiss the floor?
Matt Jones
Michigan's wrong. You got your butt kicked. Get off the floor. I mean, I guess with Michigan players standing there, if Michigan State came up to kiss the logo, it'd be like they were kissing their feet.
Drew Franklin
So Michigan players say, this is where we stand every free throw. Why do we have to move because it's Senior Day? Does that. Does that change your mind at all?
Matt Jones
I think you should. Well, I think you should probably respect that tradition. But I understand, though. I do. I do get it, you know, Michigan being contrary about the whole situation.
Drew Franklin
But what about You, Drew.
Ryan Lemon
I mean, they shouldn't have done it. This one doesn't bother me as much as our other two examples in this are you a jerk game. I mean, it's. It's a rivalry. That's some good rivalrying there. But what they lose by, like, 20, I think it just makes them look. Look worse than the outcome was what it was. I would. I would have moved. But it doesn't upset me too much that they did it, because that's part of being rivals, Ryan.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah, that's what I was going to say, man. You just got your ass whooped. You were getting down by 20 points. Respect your opponent, man. You know, I said this about when the Auburn kids pulled the belt out. Just. You got. There's a level of respect you need to show your opponent a little bit. You don't be doing that on their home floor.
Drew Franklin
No, I was actually okay with the Auburn thing. This one, to me, is different because the game's going on, and like you said, Drew, they're getting crushed. You know, they're down 20. It makes them just look petty. If they had won the game, I don't know, maybe it wouldn't have bothered me as much. But you're losing by 20 points. Like, you can just scoot off the logo. It's okay. Now that one dude who just comes in, like, just Chuck some Shannon.
Matt Jones
Yeah, sure.
Drew Franklin
That's okay either, but. But I think you probably just get off the logo, Let them have their senior day moment. We let the kid from Missouri have his Shannon. Didn't cry, but everybody else liked it.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
So I think it would have been okay. Who's next?
Matt Jones
Feral.
Drew Franklin
Feral. Go ahead, Farrell.
Caller
Hey, what's up? First of all, Draymond talks.
Drew Franklin
Nobody likes him. I know yesterday you were looking for.
Caller
People to comment on S I U.
Drew Franklin
E from Central Illinois, and when we were growing up, that was known as, like, the party school in the Midwest. Okay, well, I'm. I want to talk about siue, because we have a. Kentucky Sports Radio welcome back. It is Tykee Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. Text Machine 772-7745254. One person writes Matt, I love listening to the show. I like how you all say that Draymond shouldn't say something on a podcast without knowing the information. Don't you all do that every day?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yes, but when we're wrong, we apologize.
Drew Franklin
That's right. The only difference is we apologize. That's a big difference. Right. You have to be able to apologize. I'm going to say that's a huge difference.
Ryan Lemon
Joking about somebody find out it's a funeral. I think whatever you thought, you stop everything like you said and go out of your way. I think it's a little different circumstance.
Drew Franklin
One person writes Danny Hurley last night on 60 Minutes that half of his players would get the portal after this year. He was using his example, say, what's wrong with college basketball? Well, get over it. Danny Hurley, like, you know, that's the sport now and if you don't like it, you don't have to do it. I Shannon, I know I've said this a lot. I am so tired of these coaches whining about the portal. I it really drives me crazy. Like, nobody's making you do this, dude, right? Yeah, go do something else.
Matt Jones
It's all the old school coaches. And, you know, to Rick Patino's credit, he seems like making it work. One that has made it work.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, you know, go look at the top teams in America this year. You have two different groups of people, okay? You got the young guys who are new who are making things happen, John Shire, Nate Oates, Mark Pope, etc, and then you got some old guys who've learned to kind of adjust to the system. Rick Patino, Tom Izzo, Bruce Pearl. So, like, you can make it work or you can just whine, but like, the whining is so useless. It's not going to change. And, you know, Jay Billis had a great point. I thought in a, in an interview, Ryan, he said, you know, these coaches all say it's the wild, wild west, that people can go do what they want. He goes, you know what else Is the wild wild west life, you know, life. That's what the market is. The market, for better or worse, the free market is the wild wild west. And like if that now it's happening with college basketball and you, you know, there's a lot of different ways to do it. You know the two teams that spent the most money on NIL this year, Drew, Arkansas and Kansas. And they've both had disappointing years. So it's not just about spending money. It's also Drew about how you spend it.
Ryan Lemon
And with Hurley, is he not the best bleeping coach in the game? Don't turn your back on me. Didn't he just say that a few weeks ago?
Drew Franklin
Said that.
Ryan Lemon
Hasn't he won two championships since the Portal era started? Like, maybe you're just whining because you haven't figured it out this year. So you seem to like it until this point.
Drew Franklin
I get some of the frustrations with football coaches because they got to deal with like 85 people. But Shannon, you got a roster of 12 dudes. Like if you can't keep up with 12 dudes and that's on you. Yeah. Like how many? You know, it ain't that many guys.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
So like either handle it or don't. But the whining is just incessant to me. It drives me crazy.
Matt Jones
He's the whining nose whiner that ever whined too. I mean he is just obnoxious at this point.
Caller
Point.
Matt Jones
So yeah.
Drew Franklin
Been fascinating to see what would have happened here because our fans would have loved the winning but they would have been like, dude, shut up.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. All right, let's see who's made the tournament so far. High Point. Ryan Tubby Smith school made the tournament for the first time in their history. Does that make you excited?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
It does, yeah. The Fighting Tubby Smiths, you know, they've been here and rep recently when Tubby was there. So I kind of, I don't know, maybe feel a little fondness for High Point. That's Tubby's old school.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, me too. And they never made it until. Until that Lipscomb who I feel like Drew makes it almost every year. They pulled an upset your North Alabama whatevers that I have the sweatshirt of and now they're in the. In the tournament as well.
Ryan Lemon
I think it's only their second time though. Weren't they at another level? I mean, they've been a pretty good program.
Drew Franklin
That's right. They were at a different level. Yeah. They almost like the final four of the nit didn't they? A few. Couple of years ago, maybe.
Ryan Lemon
I've got a little soft spot for Lips going to be in Nashville. We have friends that went there. I thought that was pretty cool for them to win. And then I saw their players break down crying at the end about going to the big dance. So I thought that was a cool moment.
Drew Franklin
Drake is actually. They're in the tournament now, winning the Missouri Valley, and they're really good. Like, really good. They're going to end up being like an 11 seed. And you do not want to be the six that catches them and has a three seed. If there are 11 seed, Mark Pope's probably going to have to play for them because they may end up being the team you play in the second round. They are really good. Omaha, Shannon. Yeah, the outrunner school.
Matt Jones
That's right.
Drew Franklin
Beating up the trash cans. They make the fight, they make the tournament. I'm going to be pulling for him big. When the game was over, the ad, the coach and the school president beat up the trash can. The school president did a full frog splash on the traffic trash can after the game. And Omaha is in the tournament for the first time ever.
Matt Jones
They have become one of the most lovable teams in college basketball, all thanks to some OVW guys. So I think maybe they need to bring them on the road for their first game.
Drew Franklin
How about the Outrunners making Omaha America's favorite team? And then finally on Friday, nothing blew my mind more than Ryan Lemon knowing Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. And they win the opc after he gives them the bump, they make it. First time they've ever made the tournament as well. Ryan, are you excited about your. Whatever the name of that team is?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
They're the Cougars. The Fighting Cougars. Yeah, absolutely. How about that? You know, and Shannon, I talked about this after I pulled that out of my rear. We used to play them in baseball. They used to be Division 2, so we used. Kentucky west used to play them.
Matt Jones
We played.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Bellamy used to play himself. A little familiar with them. And then they used to be. They were in the OB for a while. They've been in the OBC conference like 15 years, I think. But I had no idea they were good.
Drew Franklin
Well, they were good for the first time. We had their coach on my ESPN show yesterday. He was a nice guy. And we went through their famous alumni. They don't have many. The only one they had drew was Catherine Madigan, who was on Last Comic Standing. And I don't even know who that is, but that was the only person of Any note that went to that school.
Ryan Lemon
Sounds like Ryan Lemon might be one of their famous fans then. I liked the story with the scissors with their coach. I don't know if that came up on your show. Hanging in the locker room for six years.
Drew Franklin
Finally, for six years, he had scissors hanging in the locker and said, we're going to use these one day. He got to use them Saturday night in the ovc. That is cool. Who's up next?
Matt Jones
I do want to update you too on high points record. They're now 30 and 5, Matt, just so you know. Let's go to Jake.
Drew Franklin
That's right, you did.
Matt Jones
High points record.
Drew Franklin
I forgot Jake. Go ahead, Jake.
Caller
What's up, guys? I just want to shout out Maya. I'm first time, long time, shout out my dad, Mike. He's listening to you guys for six or seven years. And I remember you talking about like a week or two ago about how like new people or new, like younger audiences. And I'm a student at Kentucky. And the reason why the younger people are listening is honestly because of our parents, because we're in the cars. Our parents were young listening to you guys. And then now that we're driving, I'd rather turn on the podcast instead of listening to music. So I just want to shout out you guys and shout out my dad, Mike.
Drew Franklin
Thank you very much. I think that it, that is a big part of it, people. We now have listeners who grew up literally since they were little kids listening, which is crazy to me that those people are now old enough to be in college or older. But really, really appreciate it. 859-280-2287. When we come back, the girls suite 16 is set. Ryan Lemon. If anybody can tell you who's going to win, it'll be them. Plus, more on the SEC tournament. How far can we go? Can we get to the finals? Why not? We might as well make a run. We're 19 to 1 to win it. We'll be right back. KSR, TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call TJ. He'll make him pay.
Matt Jones
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Drew Franklin
Welcome back Tykee Sports Radio. 859-280-2287. You can get us at the text machine. 772-774-5254. It looks like Twitter is down, so that'll be the way to to get me. I just saw Shannon. The egg prices are now higher than they've ever been in history. Are you missing. First of all, who warned you of that? Did I not say that months ago? I told you all. I told you all, get your eggs.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I did.
Drew Franklin
Okay, so now, now the egg prices are the highest in history. Does that affect you at all? Yes, I love eggs.
Matt Jones
I'm on a hard boiled egg kick lately. I don't know why, but I like hard boiled eggs. And I, I think I'm gonna go get a hen and have my own eggs in the backyard.
Drew Franklin
I did see somebody on TV or like somebody with the government was like, what should you tell people about egg prices? And they're like, get eggs. Get like chickens and hens.
Ryan Lemon
That's what we should buy.
Drew Franklin
I was like, I don't feel like that's a. I don't feel like that's a good advice, though. I don't, I don't need chickens in my yard. Does it affect you all? Drew Ryan? See, I don't really eat eggs, so it doesn't affect me. Does it affect you all?
Ryan Lemon
I eat a lot of eggs. I went to Whole Foods yesterday, bought some eggs and, you know, had to make a little bit of a business decision there. Had to think about what was in the bank account.
Drew Franklin
So how much does an egg cost? Like, how much are eggs now? What's the cost?
Ryan Lemon
I got the Whole Foods brand yesterday. I think it was about 6 bucks for 12.
Drew Franklin
For 12?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
50 cents an egg. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
So 50 cents an egg. Now that does seem like a lot for an egg.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
A lot of stores now have, like, signs up limit, two cartons of eggs. That's it? That's all you can take?
Drew Franklin
Oh, they'll only let you buy two cartons.
Matt Jones
Who can afford more than that?
Drew Franklin
Okay, so what do you have to do, like kids outside to go with them? Yeah, well, you know what? I'm going to go in with three and say, well, you're going to stop me for getting three cartons of eggs?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, you're going to be scanning yourself out anyway. Who's counting the.
Drew Franklin
So what were they like, what were they like 10 years ago? Like, what was it like for 12 eggs, like 10 years ago? Like, $3. $2?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah, $3 and something even less if.
Ryan Lemon
You get them on sale.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah, like the generic egg.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
I know people who live in, like, downtown Lexington. Not really downtown, but inside New Circle that have chickens in their backyard.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, yeah, I've heard that. I can. I don't understand why. Well, I mean, maybe this is why, but they're way out in front of this. Do they stink? I would think they stink.
Ryan Lemon
I think the noise in the Morning is the only inconvenience otherwise. Just go get your fresh eggs whenever they're ready.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. All right. Well, the girl, sweet 16, Ryan. Let's quickly go through. You're going to make some picks. All right. It starts Wednesday. Ashland opens up with North Laurel. Two mountain teams. Who you got?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
North Laurel kind of dominated the 13th region and they only lost a couple games. So I'm going North Laurel.
Drew Franklin
All right. Not County. Central. Taylor County. What do you got?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Absolutely no idea. So we'll go.
Drew Franklin
We got to pick one. All right, well, then I'll let Shannon pick it. Not County. No, let's let Shannon. Not County Central. Taylor County. Who you got?
Matt Jones
Shannon, Not County.
Drew Franklin
All right. Grc. Franklin, Simpson. GRC is usually good. Are they good this year, Ryan?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah, they're probably still the second best team in the state. They're still really good. So I picked your.
Drew Franklin
Your Douglas versus Simon Kenton. How about Douglas? Are they going to make a run?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Heck, yeah, man. Douglas on a roll. The Lady Broncos. So, yeah, we're trying to arrange a meal with them at KS Bar & Grill already. So we're going.
Drew Franklin
Off they come. They're going to win. Johnson Central gets Sacred Heart. I feel like Ryan Sacred Heart wins every year. Haven't they won like seven straight years or something?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
They have. And they got that Zakiyah Johnson, who's been the best player in the state for like four years in a row. She's a senior this year. She's a superstar.
Drew Franklin
Where's she going? LSU in that way.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Lsu? Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Mercy against Cooper.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Cooper's really good. Actually. Cooper's probably one of the top five teams in the state.
Drew Franklin
So Cooper, the school where they're having all the. Drew, the. The male basketball drama where they fired the coach and then all that. Wasn't that Cooper?
Ryan Lemon
I believe that's what we talked about last week. I haven't kept up that show, but yeah, that was the school.
Drew Franklin
Henderson and Marshall. Drew, I'll let you pick this. Two teams from Western Kentucky coming up here.
Ryan Lemon
You know, I grew up as a Henderson rival, but their. Their girls team has been good for a while. I'm going to pick them here. And their boys are knocking on the door after not being in Lexington for several years. So I watch both Henderson's this season.
Drew Franklin
Danville Christian and Davis County. I didn't know Danville Christian was a school. So you're going to pick them, right?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yes. They have won the 12th region the last two years in a row. They. They've got some real. A really tall girl she's like 64 or 6 5. She's really huge. They're both boys and girls. Teams have got, like, some transfers from, like, Africa, and that's really changed their program completely.
Drew Franklin
All right, so there you go. That is your girl. Sweet sixteen preview with Ryan Lemon. It starts on Wednesday. We'll have the games at the bar, and you can come out if you're in town to watch the games. Who's up next?
Matt Jones
Jake.
Drew Franklin
Jake. How are you, Jake?
Caller
I'm doing good. I'm doing a little bit better since Drew Petrie gets Marshall. I still got some sports hate from them canceling the. The. When Coach Caliperi was here last year.
Drew Franklin
What did they cancel?
Caller
Some grad.
Drew Franklin
What did they. What did they.
Caller
They canceled his. They. They canceled his calling show. Matt. Remember I called you about that.
Drew Franklin
You're still upset. So you're. You're saying the local Marshall county radio station canceled John Caliperi's calling show?
Caller
I told you that last year. You don't remember.
Drew Franklin
But, Jake, I don't remember. No, I don't remember every single call that you make.
Caller
Yes. Yes, That's. That's what happened last year.
Drew Franklin
Okay, Jake, go ahead. What was that last.
Ryan Lemon
All right, go ahead.
Caller
What? I'm. I'm hopeful that. I'm hopeful that Kur Creesa will be our. Will be our point guard next year. Be our point guard next year. What do you think? What do you think the odds of that happening?
Drew Franklin
I don't know. I don't know if he will or. Or not. Jake, I appreciate the call. I don't. I didn't hear you. I don't even know. What did he say?
Matt Jones
Kirk said be our point guard next year. I don't think that's going to happen.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I don't think that's going to happen. That was quite a laugh.
Ryan Lemon
Well, Ron was losing it over here.
Drew Franklin
Twice. Did you all remember that Marshall County's radio station canceled the John Caliperi show?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
I didn't remember that.
Drew Franklin
Drew, did you remember that from last year?
Ryan Lemon
I didn't remember it, but I feel like he shouldn't take that out on the girls high school basketball teams. Road to up. I don't think that those two things are correlated.
Drew Franklin
Jake runs out on the floor, Shannon, the Marshall county girls team, and Jake just stands up and goes. And they look at him like, why are you booing us? You do. Radio station.
Matt Jones
What do you think he really missed on the cow show anyway? He didn't miss anything. What do you think he's going to say? They're not robots. They don't poop ice cream.
Drew Franklin
I think. I think Jake should just. Just take it out on all Marshall county teams. Just.
Ryan Lemon
He was standing on their logo on Senior Night.
Drew Franklin
Just be furious at them all the time. Who's next?
Matt Jones
Nick.
Drew Franklin
Nick, go ahead. Nick. Nick.
Nate Judeney
Is it Nate?
Matt Jones
No, sorry, Nate, go ahead.
Nate Judeney
My name's Nate Judeney. I played over at Trinity a few years ago and some of my good Kentucky friends that sent me the podcast last week, you guys are talking about semester basketball. So I thought I'd give you guys a holler.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, Ryan was. Ryan was a big fan of yours, Ryan, that. Are you. What did you. You remember Nate, right?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Oh, yeah, I just mispronounced his name. Wasn't sure how to pronounce his last name. But he was a great player at Trinity.
Nate Judeney
I wanted to thank you. You're the closest one, so I appreciate that. But obviously we had the opportunity to go play at Kentucky twice in college and it was pretty cool.
Drew Franklin
Where did you play in college? Where did you play in college?
Nate Judeney
Yeah. Boston University, where Rick Piccino coached his first gig.
Drew Franklin
Oh, you were at Boston. You was at the Terriers, is that right?
Nate Judeney
The fiercest.
Drew Franklin
You know, God loves it. I remember that from Best in Show. Well. Well, it's nice to hear from you. As a former Mr. Basketball, let me ask you a question. The Mr. Basketball is like, do you all ever have like a reunion or do you get a commercial like they do with the Heisman winners? Like is there any sort of camaraderie?
Nate Judeney
Well, I know it's a comparable award. You know what I mean?
Drew Franklin
It is a very comparable war.
Nate Judeney
Yes, those award guys, but no, not really. I kind of lost touch and I never really felt like there was one before. But no, maybe I should check in.
Drew Franklin
There should be. Honest, There should be. You know, Max Duffy won the Ray Guy award for best punter. And Drew, they have a. They have a best the Array Guy award group text where like guys like will send jokes to each other. Like 65 year old punter will send a joke. I've always thought that was kind of funny that the Ray. They had a Ray Guy group text. You should start a Mr. Basketball group text.
Nate Judeney
Well, I'm the least of them for sure, but I'll look into. I'll see you. I can get a hold of.
Drew Franklin
All right, appreciate. Appreciate the call. I always thought that was kind of funny, Drew, that they had a Ray guy. Like, you know, there'd be like 80 year old men on it and then 21 year old Australians and they'd all be on the same text for it.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, I mean half of them are Australian here lately, so it can probably get thrown off on time zones if they've moved back home. But I, I do think Nate should reach out to Richie Farmer and Winston Bennett and JR Vanhus and get this group text going.
Drew Franklin
I think there needs to be a group text. We should get a group text. And who was the Dan Lange. Right. Speaking of Marshall County. Get him out there and they should do it. Tell me about Stockton Mortgage, Ryan.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Stockton Mortgage. You know the spring buying season is starting out. I was out looking at houses this weekend. So if you're got that on your to do list this spring or summer, you might as well go get pre approved right now. And Stockton Mortgage can help you every step of the way. So give them a call. They're easy to work with. You work with the same loan officer throughout the process. You can apply online. It's easy. Even I can do it. Stockton.com NMLS8259 equal housing lender so in.
Drew Franklin
2015, Shannon eggs averaged $1.73 for 12. Wow, that's a, that's a pretty high rise.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Combination. This article says combination of inflation, plus the bird flu and plus an overall decrease in egg consumption. The egg consumption was down. Those things may be tied together.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I picked the wrong time to be into eggs.
Drew Franklin
You got in at the back end of the market. All right, we'll take a break, come back. Final segment. This is ksr. Welcome back Techie Sports radio Noche Linda Farms if you would like dry aged beef with the flavor of the St. Patty's Day tradition. Instead of gold stock up on beef, they got the tomahawk rib eye. That's Ryan's favorite. Filet mignon, Denver steaks, rump roast and more. You could call the owner, Steve Grissom. 8597-0770-0485-9707-7004. It's Noche Linda Farms. They will get the exact type of cut you like, straight from a Kentucky farm delivered to you. It's Noche Linda Farms Dry age Beef. N O c h e lindapharms.com great advertiser, great beef. They've been with us for a number of years. I just heard during that commercial. Did you guys do any of you have the whole real ID thing yet? No, I've got, you know, starting like May 7th. Like you got to have it or you can't get on a plane.
Ryan Lemon
You have, I've had Mine a while, but I hear going to get them now. The line, it just carve out a whole day even if you have an appointment as people are rushing to do.
Matt Jones
It before maybe I hate that, hate standing in line for an id.
Drew Franklin
I don't want to do that. Can we not troll with the ID I've got? So can I use, can I use a passport? Am I allowed to do that?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah, I believe so. I believe to fly you have.
Drew Franklin
So if I just go like, what's the process now? You have to go like somewhere else. Right. You can't just go to the driver's license office. Right.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Don't you have to go to like go to Frankfurt? But that was a Frankfurt. Yeah, yeah.
Drew Franklin
So how do you find out what to do?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
They may have changed. They may be able to.
Drew Franklin
I guess there was a commercial that literally said what to do.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, I went in Lexington a while back and even with an appointment, it was way behind when I got there. So I thought I'd be kind of in and out, but it took a big chunk of the afternoon.
Matt Jones
If you have a passport, it's easier to get the passport. Why wouldn't you just keep your passport, not get the real id?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, because I feel like I'm gonna lose it. But, but I, but I'll just do the passport. I mean, that's what I'm saying.
Matt Jones
Like it's a lot easier to get the passport than it is the real id.
Drew Franklin
Already have the passport. I'll just forget the real id. So like in the future when you go get your driver's license renewed, will it be a real ID or do you still have to do something different?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
That's a great question.
Matt Jones
I don't know the answer to that of the website.
Drew Franklin
See, these are the kind of things that we, the government should teach us. Right. At some point or maybe just listen to the ads and go to that website. They said, drew, I made a mistake yesterday on the Sunday morning show we have this guy on this former NBA player. Do you remember Quentin Richardson?
Ryan Lemon
Of course. He was part of the Clippers back in the day. The fun.
Drew Franklin
Yes, he was a lot of fun. He is a, he's a newly hired full time NBA analyst at espn but we've had him on our show over the years and I've always liked him. I think he's really good. I think he's going to be. This is my prediction. So I'm pretty good at picking guys who are going to be stars on espn. I did it with Dan Orlovsky. I said this dude's going to be huge. When. And he did. This is my next one. Quentin Richardson in two years is going to be big on espn. You mark my words. But yesterday I made a mistake. He had done a really good interview, and at the end, I was trying to pump him up. Drew Reich. I was trying to be nice, you know, and I said, hey, Stephen A. Charles Barkley. Hey, Shaq, get ready. Q tip is coming. And then I realized no one calls him Q Tip. Like, I don't know. His name is Quentin Richardson. I just called him Q tip. And then Myron was like, that's not his name. And I said I thought it was. And he was like, it's not. And then Quentin Richardson was like, well, you can call me whatever you want. But it was clear that his name was not Q tip. And I just called him Q tip. And Drew, I'm not sure why I called him Q Tip, but it was clearly not his name.
Ryan Lemon
You're halfway there. He was. He was Q. For the longest time, I. I've never.
Drew Franklin
Heard where did I get the tip? I know the tribe called Quest guy was Q Tip, but did I think, Shannon, that that was Quentin Richardson? Why did I call him? I don't know.
Matt Jones
I have no idea why you would call him that.
Drew Franklin
I said it with confidence, though.
Matt Jones
That's the main thing, though. You said it with confidence.
Ryan Lemon
You should have said, get your Q tips. Clean out your ears because Quentin Richardson is about to be talking basketball with the best of them.
Drew Franklin
That would have been good. I'll do that.
Ryan Lemon
But I know no one knows a mischief tips out.
Drew Franklin
Well, I was really trying to hype him up, and instead I just called him the wrong.
Matt Jones
No tip.
Drew Franklin
No tip. Yeah. Just keep away the deal. Who's next?
Matt Jones
Jerry.
Drew Franklin
Jerry. What's up, Jerry Terry with a T.
Caller
I've been called worse than Jerry before, though.
Matt Jones
I need a Q to clean up my ears, apparently, because I'm getting everybody's names wrong.
Drew Franklin
You're getting everybody's name wrong? Go ahead.
Caller
Yes, sir. I was just trying. Are going to give you a route, an extra reason to get behind a Cinderella team and the siue Cougars.
Drew Franklin
All right, talk directly into the phone. I can barely hear you. Just talk right in the phone. Go ahead.
Caller
Okay. I'm going to try to give you a reason to pick back the Siue Cougars as a senior team this year. There's another Kentucky connection.
Ryan Lemon
The.
Caller
The athletic director is a center college graduate.
Drew Franklin
Oh, well, good. I'm glad to hear that. He went to center and now he's the ad at an NCA school. So I, I'm picking for him anyway because of Ryan, but that gives me an extra reason and he's my son in law. Oh, well, that's good. What's his name?
Caller
His name is Andrew Gavin.
Drew Franklin
Okay, well, good. Well, Andrew Gavin, your father in law. Let's. Let's get him a better phone. But otherwise giving him a shout out and let's go Cougars. All right.
Caller
He's a 40 year old and his wife, my daughter, graduated from high school.
Drew Franklin
Thank you very much. I can't keep doing that. I'm sorry. I appreciate the call. I can't. Sorry. Something that crazy that just happened two.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Different times with, with J.T. now this guy's phone and kind of cut in and out like that.
Drew Franklin
That means Ryan did it on purpose, right, Jen? Is that what. Is that what, him being cute there at the end? Is that what that's about?
Matt Jones
I don't know. I mean, Ryan's not running the board. I am, so I don't know how you would have done it.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Yeah, I didn't do anything.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, I'm just in there still laughing at Jake.
Drew Franklin
Let me ask you a question about the SEC tournament, Drew. Now that you know our route. Play the winner of Oklahoma and Georgia, then play Alabama. Then we would probably play. What is it? Or no, Excuse me. Then play. Yeah, then play Alabama, then play Florida. What chances do you give us of making that run?
Ryan Lemon
The whole run? Winning four straight against. That would include beating three of the top NCAA tournament seeds. I think that's unlikely. But I'm not surrendering any games to Alabama. Just this comparable styles of play. The team that makes the most threes, I think will win that one. Whatever you get out of the first round, I feel pretty good about that. And then I do think they're capable of winning Friday. And if you get into the weekend, I think we'll all be happy and just hope for the best. But with Cars back and being so limited to win four straight, I think is asking a lot.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I think. I don't know what Ryan. I feel like if we were playing Alabama for a third time, Hard to beat a team three times in a row. I kind of feel like if we get to that game, I give us a shot. I really do. I think. I think I'll probably end up picking Kentucky against Alabama. I know they just won at Auburn, but I feel like if we're going to play a good team, let's give it a run and we'll have fun. We'll see where we are going into Mark to the tournament.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Kentucky Wildcats have not won an SEC tournament game in Nashville in six years. It's 2019.
Drew Franklin
So first beat Oklahoma or Georgia. Is that what you mean?
Stockton Mortgage Representative
But that's.
Matt Jones
They won in 2022, didn't they? They won the first game. I think they won one.
Stockton Mortgage Representative
Florida. They haven't won in Nashville since 2019. So the momentum, the people chomping at the bit, I think that's going to carry Kentucky for a couple games. There's no doubt about it. Just the excitement that we've been starving for some success down there.
Drew Franklin
Well, that stat also makes me rise. Let's at least win the first one. Let's beat Oklahoma, Georgia to start because we can't take that one for granted based on how things have happened. Tomorrow will lead off the show with Mark Stoops here. Thank you all very much. Going to be the best few weeks of the year. Coming up, this has been Kentucky sports radio.
