At 10:49am on the text machine, which is 772-774-5254, one person writes. All right, you're going into break. When we come back, that's going to be when Ryan Lemon says, that's what I wanted to hear from our coach.
Ryan Lemon
They nailed it.
Matt Jones
And then that's what he said.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
See, the listeners know Shannon. They know what Ryan Limit likes to.
Shannon The Dude
Put himself on the squad. Like he's got a jersey.
Matt Jones
Yeah, Ryan does like to put himself on the squad. He's definitely part of the. Part of the team in his mind. Okay, let's talk a little basketball. I'm gonna sit down here. The SEC tournament starts tomorrow. We're going to be doing the show in Bowling Green, but from a private location. That sounds. That makes it sound a lot more.
Shannon The Dude
Like a speakeasy, like Ryan.
Matt Jones
It makes it sound a lot more like dirty than it is going to be somewhere where we're not going to have a crowd. Then Thursday will be at 10. Roof doors will open at 9 Eastern, so. Well, actually, what time will the doors open? I don't know because I'm not sure.
Ryan Lemon
Either because Shannon starts at nine.
Matt Jones
I don't know. We'll figure it out. But the doors will open at some point. And then Friday, we'll see what happens. But. But the SEC tournament starts tomorrow. I'm very excited about it. Drew, how are you feeling about Kentucky's chances?
Drew Franklin
I'm feeling great. As I've mentioned a few times, my brain, 90% of every day for the last month has been thinking about Nashville in the SEC tournament. Feel even better about Kentucky after going two and oh, last week and a big win at Missouri. You know, I think playing on Sunday is probably unlikely, but I'm expecting to win a couple games and to have a great time and get. Get us even more fired. Big tournament after that. I just think Kentucky's in a good spot even with the injury to Jackson Robinson.
Matt Jones
What about you, Ryan?
Ryan Lemon
I can make a big prediction that there'll be. If Kentucky wins on Thursday night, there'd be a lot of hungover Big Blue Nation people Friday morning because that late game. Finally win a game in Nashville since the first time since 2019. That place will explode Thursday night if they win a game.
Matt Jones
I think just the crowd Thursday night's gonna be awesome. That's gonna be. I Remember when, in 2010, Cal's first SEC tournament. What an amazing Kentucky fan base showing we had for that and how just crazy the gym was in all the games. I don't know if it's gonna be like that, but, Drew, I think it's gonna be close. I mean, I feel like, you know, there's just. There's been a sense from fans that the SEC tournament just hasn't been the same in a number of years. And I think they're ready for it. And part of the reason is John Cal Peri did an interview yesterday, once again with an Arkansas media group, where he said, I don't care about the SEC tournament. I mean, he. You talk about doubling and tripling down. He said, I do not care about the SEC tournament. The exact. I don't know what the exact quote was, but we'll, you know, he was, I don't care. And then I looked in the comments section. A lot of Arkansas fans are going, yeah, I never thought of it like that. And I was like, yeah, well, we had a career. He was like, it's only about seed. And then you have Mark Pope who goes, I do care. I want us to go and we'll try to win it. I love that.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. I do not miss Cal's comments about the SEC tournament.
Matt Jones
It was always the worst part about him.
Drew Franklin
Like, okay, maybe you even. Maybe you believe that, which I think is weird in itself. Maybe you tell your team that. But to. To say it to your fans, who you want to be there, who are paying a lot of money, that city is outrageously expensive these days. And a lot of people I'm sure from Arkansas are excited to go for Calipari's first run, like me, they've probably been thinking about it for weeks. And to have the coach just straight up come out and say, looking at a camera, I don't even care about it. I just think that's insane.
Matt Jones
And he. He says it like, they're going to win the national championship. You know what I mean? Like. Like, it's one thing if you say in 2012, if you're Kentucky, I don't care about the SEC. Turmeric. CNCA is what matters. You're going to be an 11 seed, dude. Like, you should take every win you can get from. I just think that's craz. Mark Pope's the opposite. Mark Pope's like, I want to go win. And I think that makes it exciting.
Ryan Lemon
He said that from day one, right? The minute he got off the bus. He's talking about the SEC tournament and going down there to Nashville to win the SEC tournament. I'm sure like you guys, I had a lot of people say I'm going this year for the first time in five, six years. You know, I think people are excited again about going get Nashville what it used to be for the SEC tournament.
Drew Franklin
Also he's saying it doesn't matter. Yeah, it doesn't matter on Sunday. Dude, you're playing on Wednesday. It should matter to you. You should try to at least get.
Matt Jones
To Friday, the first game of the tournament. I understand they're playing South Carolina. I mean I love how he acts like they're like you're in the first game of the tournament. Right. You're playing the worst team in the SEC who oh by the way beat you by 20 earlier this year. You might want to care a little bit.
Drew Franklin
This isn't like that Sunday years ago where they were good and then Texas A and M got a better seed because they both played in the championship. Okay, that doesn't matter because the brackets mate you are playing at noon. We don't even have time to get to your game. That's not really your game. So you should care about.
Matt Jones
I'm going to be in Bowling Green and I can't even get. You might be out before I get there. Right. Like, like and I get there early. So yeah, I thought that was, that was crazy. Now Kentucky the Otega away named second team all sec. Nobody else made the the top three SEC teams. I kind of understand it. I'd like to have seen Amari get on there somewhere. Although when you look at the guys like you can kind of understand didn't. And then all defensive team. Lamont Butler did not make it. I think he would have if he had not been hurt so much. But Otago being second team all SEC was probably not something we saw at the beginning of the year.
Ryan Lemon
Nobody even had him in the team starting lineup. Last summer we were talking about the roster. Yeah, that guy has. He's been. He's been our LeBron James. He's been our go to guy. He want What? There were two games. We scored what, eight the last 18. That's kind of a LeBron James effort.
Matt Jones
You know, I listen, I love you Mr. Our team and Otag has been really good.
Ryan Lemon
LeBron James, he's been our LeBron James. He scored 20 seconds.
Matt Jones
What do you think? Are LeBron James our go to guy?
Ryan Lemon
Our guy. We need to get us a bucket and win us a game. He's been that guy.
Matt Jones
I don't Think that's necessarily the definition of LeBron James, but okay, LeBron away. Great, great honor for that kid.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, it's happy for away. As you all said. Very unexpected. Just last fall we were trying to think how this could play out in our heads. I was pretty bummed for Amari though. There's only like one big guy on the three teams. I. I just feel like that guy deserved a spot for some form of recognition. Put him on the last team, put him somewhere. But I thought Amari deserved to be among all the.
Matt Jones
How great the league.
Drew Franklin
Oh yeah.
Matt Jones
I mean you look at that league and like that first team guys, he couldn't really argue with any of it. Ziegler, maybe he was a little high, but. But you know, he plays well against everybody. That's not us true dudes on that first team too.
Drew Franklin
Four, four and five year players.
Matt Jones
You also. Exactly. You see why having these older guys matters. So, you know, it was a good reminder. It was a good example of the. What's new about, about college basketball. Now you look at the SEC tournament, there's always going to be one team that gets to the semifinals that you wouldn't think is going to do it. Will it be us?
Drew Franklin
I am not afraid of Alabama. I mean, one game at a time. We got to beat Oklahoma, Georgia of.
Matt Jones
The one Alabama, they play the same style.
Drew Franklin
They won by five in RUP arena and they hit two more threes. I just think with Butler being available, you know, with Perry in there at Tuscaloosa, that's a different story. But with Butler being healthy to try to guard Sears, I think it'll just come down to who shoots better when. When they won in Lexington. Grant Nelson was the story, but Andrew Carr could barely walk. Andrew Carr played much better when he got other chance. I think with Kentucky at mostly full strength, can't do anything about Robinson. I think it'll just come down to who shoots better at that point. I like that better than going against the Florida or an Auburn. Probably pick Tennessee above Alabama. But I'm not afraid of Alabama.
Matt Jones
Are you afraid of Alabama?
Ryan Lemon
No. Because like Drew said, Kentucky, even though they lost the game at rough, they played really, really well that day against Alabama.
Matt Jones
And we played well for a half. Yeah. At Alabama and we had like nobody in that game. I mean we were playing like me and you in that game.
Ryan Lemon
So Grant Nelson was the all American for him in that game. I don't think. Yeah, I don't think that's going to happen again. So, you know, you contain him. You do A better job in the perimeter. Yeah, they don't scare me. If I had my choice of those four top four seeds to play, I probably would have picked Alabama.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Yeah. I actually can see. I mean, I could see Missouri beating Florida in that other game right above us, and you could end up playing. I have no idea what's going to happen. I think I do agree with you, though, Ryan. We need to win the first one. I think just for our fan base, we need to get a win in Nashville. You know, I'd like. I think. Who would you rather play between Oklahoma and Georgia? Do you care?
Drew Franklin
Oklahoma's much better scoring team, as we saw. But Georgia, the way they play, I mean, they just fight. And I worry about, you know, aggravating something with all our guys that are dinged up. I don't want any part of Georgia. I mean, they don't play dirty, but they're about as close to as physical and dirty as a team.
Matt Jones
And Oklahoma probably would like to win that game against Georgia to lock up their term. I mean, they're kind of like, they're probably in, but they probably, you know, they can't take a deep breath. But I think if they beat Georgia, they'd be in pretty good shape.
Drew Franklin
I do wonder, last time we saw Oklahoma, Brandon Garrison wanted all the smoke and had to be separated. So I wonder how much of that is lingering from that game a couple weeks ago in Oklahoma. But I still lean the Sooners, but Kentucky better beat either one of them again in Nashville.
Matt Jones
I have to tell you, I got into here. Get your camera over there. Don't worry. What are you doing, Mario? I never. Mario chooses. Like, why are you doing close up pictures of Ryan limit? Like, what is that? Is that for the ladies?
Ryan Lemon
Why?
Matt Jones
Why is it. Why are you taking zoom shots of Ryan Lemon right now? Okay. All right. So I did get 100% in to March Madness last night. Like, last night was my. Okay, March Madness is here.
Ryan Lemon
You got it.
Matt Jones
So I flew. I flew home, got home, saw the second half of Wofford and firm. Now, first of all, great. We've been to that tournament final in Asheville before Drew the Southern Conference tournament final. Crowd wild. But the reason I loved it is it's so March mad. Wofford had a dude, Shannon, who looked 43 years.
Shannon The Dude
I know who you're talking about.
Matt Jones
He did. I mean, he had like a bald spot, thinning hair, a little bit chunky, and he shot underhanded free throws. Okay, Underhanded free throws, granny shots, and he shoots 32% from the line. And by the way, I think he's their best player. Like he was pretty good, but yet he shot 32% from the line. And what I love about that is that dude. Shannon goes, you know what? I can't shoot free throws and I'm going to shoot them poorly and look ridiculous. Like you would. What you would think if you're going to shoot granny shots, you should at least get 70%. And I loved it. And then they won the game, which means he's going to be in March Madness. That dude's going to get attention next week anytime you have like a 43 year old granny shooter on the team. I fell for March Madness, Shannon last night watching Wofford.
Shannon The Dude
It's like the YMCA old man's league going on there with him. And how about Dwight Perry? He's the head coach.
Matt Jones
Okay, so let's talk about that Dwight Perry, former Kentucky player, for those of you a little young. He's known for. He was Bobby Perry's cousin. And they tried to start Bobby Perry in NCAA tournament game and drew and accidentally put Dwight's name in so he had to play. They did the jump ball and then what? He just fouled somebody so that he. So that they could take him out. He's the coach of Wofford and they make it. And their best player is from Paducah, right?
Ryan Lemon
Really?
Matt Jones
Yes. I think he went to McCracken County. His name's like Soft Less or something. But what, what an awesome story for Wofford. Dwight Perry.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, that's a fun Kentucky basketball memory. I can remember looking at the TV like, why is Dwight Perry in our starting five in the first round, the NCAA tournament? And the big guy you mentioned, I got to call him out on that headband. That headband's not there to catch sweat. That's covering up a receding hairline. He is there, Lebron. He's got the bald hair going back with the, with the headband that fits right on it. He's also Canadian.
Matt Jones
I like.
Drew Franklin
I mean, there's so much to like about that guy.
Matt Jones
I love him. He looks like Mr. Belding. I love it. And he shoots granny shots. Ryan, how can you not be into March Madness after you watch that? He's.
Ryan Lemon
He's what? He's our cream Abdul Jabbar this year. Yes, because that's what everybody's been talking about.
Matt Jones
He's a pretty. He can't shoot free throws, but he's otherwise pretty good.
Ryan Lemon
You know, you talk about that Dwight Perry incident. I was there the dude gets announced, doesn't even have his name on the back of his jersey. And Kentucky's playing number one seed Kansas, I believe, up in Chicago. It was, it was kind of embarrassing that that was going on.
Matt Jones
I was kind of awesome. I forgot he didn't have, I forgot he didn't have his Jerry. He didn't even have a name on his jersey number 30.
Ryan Lemon
35. 30 or 35. Yeah.
Matt Jones
But how about Dwight? Congrats to Dwight.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Matt Jones
Like former Kentucky. You know, we always talk about former cats who know we may have another great coach out there in Dwight Perry. So congratulations to him. 859-280-2287. Cats heading to Nashville. We're going to take calls I guess in the next segment. So if you want to come in. 859-280-2287 what do you think about the Mark Stoops interview? Or are you excited about the trip to. To Nashville. We need to talk for a minute, though, about high school basketball drama.
Ryan Lemon
Yes, I love it. All right, bring it on.
Matt Jones
Well, high school sports drama, I guess. Let's. So the girl Sweet 16 starts tomorrow. We got. If you're in town, come on out to the bar and see everybody. And before or after the games at Rupp arena should be a lot of fun, but let's talk about whatever happened in Pulaski County. Did you see this?
Ryan Lemon
I saw. I got a note about it.
Matt Jones
Did you watch the video?
Drew Franklin
No, I haven't seen.
Matt Jones
You need to watch, Shannon. If you watch the video, you guys need to check my Twitter accounts. The night before the show. Just a little bit of advice for everyone on the show so that you're able to talk about what happens so that we don't keep doing this every episode. Pulaski county was playing, I think, Southwestern. All right. And they're playing in the game, and I guess one of the teams is beating the other one by 30 points. And then somebody on the team's grandma gets really angry in the video. We don't see what makes her angry, but I think it's the referees. In the video you can see online, she starts going crazy. And in the video, it looks like she threatens to flash the audience a couple of times.
Ryan Lemon
Gotta love the grandma.
Matt Jones
Yeah, she looks like she's trying to threaten the. Like, flash the audience a couple times. She starts pointing at the ref. She starts jumping up and down. Then some people in the audience seem to boo her. She starts yelling at the people in the audience. Then it looked like her pants were about to fall down. I'm not sure exactly what was going on. I posted the video, and then I had somebody write on Twitter this was their explanation of what happened as to why this grandma was out yelling. Um, let me read it here. Sorry. She says this is a grandmother of one of Southwestern's players. She went on a rant on Facebook about how Trump and Elon needed to come to Pulaski county to investigate the officials because they were DEI hires, which I love the idea that the officials in Pulaski county are DEI hires and Trump and Elon should come and fix it. I love the video. I love everything about it. I love that I got messages all night of people saying, you really do need to investigate the officials for girls basketball in Pulaski County. I'm going to go ahead and tell you I'm not going to do that. What did you think of it?
Drew Franklin
I mean, it's funny, but I Feel like we've already had way too many videos of adults acting like clowns at high school games this postseason, and we haven't even started the Sweet 16. I mean, there's been several incidents in the district and regional tournaments. I've seen some in other states. Why can't adults behave at games that are for their kids in high school?
Matt Jones
You're down also. You're down 30. You know, Shannon, when you're down 30, I don't think it's the ref's fault. I'm just gonna go ahead and say it. I think when you're down 30, you're down 30. I don't think going and screaming at the officials is. And calling them DEI hires Shannon is going to change much of the game.
Shannon The Dude
No, but I like grandma's energy. I wish all of our fans energy. She was ready to party.
Matt Jones
You like her. You like acting like she's gonna flash.
Shannon The Dude
The crowd almost came off the bottom. Almost came off. She could have been nude by the time she get out of that arena.
Matt Jones
She. That might have led to more legal problems. I don't know if you're supposed to be getting nude at high school basketball games.
Ryan Lemon
The video is fantastic because, you know, she starts behind the scores table, and then the security guys come and get an escort. They escort. Escort her. Escort her out along the baseline while the game is still going on. That. And she takes that moment to, like, perform and do her dance and drop down to her knees.
Matt Jones
It's like other people get into it, too.
Ryan Lemon
Drew.
Matt Jones
It looks like there's, like, a lot of people that are upset. It's not people, really, to be down 30. What is happening in Pulaski county, like, Somerset Chill hires, man.
Drew Franklin
We got to do something about it. Never mind these shortage of officials trying to get anyone.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, how much. How much does a high school official make to do a game, to do a girl?
Drew Franklin
Not nearly enough. If you got to do that.
Matt Jones
How much do you think? Is it?
Ryan Lemon
$40? I was gonna say 50 then. I'm not. I'm not. I'm just guessing.
Matt Jones
So does. I mean, does this woman genuinely think that, like, people are lining up down the street to come be flashed by her for a girl's basketball game? Like, does she really think that maybe.
Drew Franklin
She was just filling March Madness and wanted some lingerie on the deck there at Pulaski getting show a little skin?
Matt Jones
She had a different notion of what March Madness was.
Drew Franklin
Okay, seriously, though, that's someone's grandmother. And they're on that court maybe finishing their High school career. And now a radio show is talking about her grandmother trying to pull her girls out at a high school.
Matt Jones
I mean, the idea. We tried to think about my grandmother, like, the idea. My grandmother who would tell me I was showing too much skin when I was just wearing shorts, period. The idea that she would go to a game and, like, threaten to flash people. Like, how do you end up in that situation? That's crazy. Then there was the high school track event.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Where the girl took the baton and just hit the girl in front of her in the head.
Shannon The Dude
That's one way to get ahead. Well, just knock them in the head.
Matt Jones
Just knock them in the head. And then she did an interview with a local TV station. Again, she's in high school. So I'm like. I mean, I'm trying to be, you know, fair, but she said, I didn't do it on purpose. She's like, I know the video made it look like I did, but I didn't do it on purpose. Does anyone believe that she didn't hit that girl on purpose?
Drew Franklin
I mean, that looks pretty intentional. She even kind of looked at her and sized it up. I mean, she lifts her arms. Not even natural movement while you're running. I think she called.
Shannon The Dude
No. And she knew what she was doing. Did she think that nobody would catch that on camera?
Matt Jones
Well, see, that's why I think it's plausible. Maybe she didn't do it on purpose. You. She had to know she was gonna get caught. Right. It's not like it was he. Like the moment.
Shannon The Dude
It was heat of the moment.
Matt Jones
You think you can. She was the moment.
Shannon The Dude
She was frustrated and goes and just hits it right in the head. That'll slow her down. Come here.
Matt Jones
What'd you think? Right?
Ryan Lemon
It's assault, man. She rare back. She rears back and conks that girl in the back of the head. I think because the girl was passing her. She's mad because she's getting beat. And she hit that girl in the back of the head.
Matt Jones
It did look like that she was about to drop the baton, the one.
Ryan Lemon
That did the hitting.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So I guess it right on her head.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
She was just.
Ryan Lemon
She was just getting a better grip.
Matt Jones
Trying to give the girl the benefit.
Shannon The Dude
Of the doubt is her defense attorney.
Matt Jones
Is it plausible that she was losing control and then she swung out?
Ryan Lemon
I've run 100 relays and never in my life. In track. In high school, in middle school and high school, you did a lot of relays.
Matt Jones
I never knew this.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. Yeah. And there's not One time that I ever see anybody carry the baton, lose their handle on the grip, and it ends up above their head. That's ridiculous. If you lose your grip, it falls.
Matt Jones
So you're saying it doesn't fall upwards.
Drew Franklin
Right into the back of someone's head?
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
So the other girl immediately falls down. She has a concussion, and I saw them. She might have fractured something. If you're accidentally hitting someone, they don't have a concussion and immediately go down.
Matt Jones
Well, so what's more embarrassing, the girl hitting the girl or the grandma flashing?
Drew Franklin
They're trying to act like, Grandma, Grandma's an adult. Grandma knows better. And that's not. That's not your show. Grandma, sit down and watch the kids.
Matt Jones
Grandma.
Ryan Lemon
Grandma.
Matt Jones
Yeah, Shannon. Grandma.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. Grandma's probably the most embarrassing.
Matt Jones
Yeah, Grandma's a little embarrassed. All right. 859-280-2287. We'll take your calls. Barrett Bags, KSR. Welcome back, Tech Sports Radio. 859-280-1287. Text machine. By the way, a couple open lines. Give us a shout, like to hear from you what you think of the interview. Are you ready for the SEC tournament? I got Derek on there, but let's get some more people on. I know. See, that's what. Part of the reason I don't like start shows with interviews, because then it leads to people not like calling because they're listening. But we did that today, so I'd like to hear from you. One person writes, matt, my daughter's played basketball for Mail for three years. We've been all over in the region. Pulaski Southwestern has the worst fans we've ever played. Is that true?
Drew Franklin
Southwestern Pulaski, having just watched that video. I can't. I know, but I. That's pretty wild scene.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, that's a pretty. Like, I'm laughing about the woman doing that. But it's a pretty awful thing because the thing is, like, whatever people's view is on dei, most people don't even know what it is. But if. If you're. Whether you're for it or against it, it is now in some people's mind just being an excuse to yell at black people or women in a job and go, well, you're a di. Which is a. Which. Like, that's just blatantly racist or sexist to do. So like now they're just like, you see a black person in a job and people just think, you can just say that. I don't know if that ref. I didn't see if that ref Was black or a woman. But that's, like, what happens. So if that was what she said, and I don't know, to be honest, that's just what the person in the crowd said. But if that was what she said, that's awful. But it's also funny that she tried to, like, may act like she was gonna flash people.
Ryan Lemon
Somebody has said the three officials were all three women.
Matt Jones
See, that's what I'm saying. So, like, what if that's the case? People use that as a way just to say it. Now it's weird for a woman to say that to a woman. That's even weirder. But. But yeah. I mean, the other thing, like I said with high school officials, like, it's not like there's a. It's not like you're getting into Harvard. Like, it's not. There's not a line down the street getting to do it. You're lucky anybody wants to do it.
Drew Franklin
Also, maybe you shouldn't be acting like you're flashing at a high school ever. As an adult. Maybe leave your clothes on at a high school.
Matt Jones
You think that's just a good rule?
Drew Franklin
I just think maybe we should all.
Matt Jones
Live by that just good rule of thumb. Don't act like you're.
Drew Franklin
We don't need nudity at high schools.
Matt Jones
I kind of agree with you. Last thing for you, the phones. Did you see the interview with Danny. Danny Hurley and his wife on six?
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Matt Jones
Yes. Danny Hurley. I knew. I didn't see it until last night, but I knew it was interesting when my mom said, I'm so glad that guy's not our coach.
Ryan Lemon
Your mom said that?
Matt Jones
Oh, yeah. Because I guess they watched it. People were making a big deal online about the fact his wife said she didn't like basketball and she didn't know what a screen was. And I thought, what's wrong with that? Who cares?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Like, I actually, I. I tend to usually date women that don't know anything about sports. Like when you. When you do sports all the time, if you're a basketball coach, it might be good, Shannon, to have somebody you come home to who doesn't care about basketball. Right.
Shannon The Dude
Leave your job at your place of work. You don't have to bring it home. Why does she. Doesn't matter if she knows she's not playing.
Matt Jones
I mean. I mean, she's not the first. I mean, I don't know how much like Ellen Cal Perry, I don't think was, like, huge basketball person.
Ryan Lemon
Was famously noted that Joanne Patino was never a big basketball person or in Lexington.
Matt Jones
And it also may be the case that if you're going to be married to somebody with an ego of Danny Hurley, you're just going to have to by nature kind of be like, not into it.
F
Yeah.
Matt Jones
You know what I mean? Or else it's not going to work. I mean, Danny Hurley can't marry a female Danny Hurley. They'll kill each other. Right.
Shannon The Dude
Could you imagine if she was, like, critical of him? Like, you know, you really should have made that substitution there 10 seconds ago.
Matt Jones
He would explode.
Ryan Lemon
There were parts of the interview, though, where she definitely runs that household, though. You know, he may be the successful basketball coach, but she runs the household.
Matt Jones
But again, isn't that kind of how it was with Joanne Patino and Ellen California as well? They both kind of had this powerful coach husband who in public, like to boss everybody around and act like he was like, mister. And then they got home and he was like, okay, honey, whatever you say. I mean, I feel like maybe that's just a thing with people like that, especially college coaches.
Drew Franklin
I mean, how many of them are really going home and mowing the yard, paying the bills, cooking dinner? I think that's pretty normal for a college coach's wife to pick up the slack and all that stuff and maybe not be paying much attention to basketball.
Matt Jones
They would not have worked here, though.
Ryan Lemon
No blessing in disguise.
Matt Jones
I mean, Danny Hurley would not.
Ryan Lemon
But don't you think Mitch had to make an effort to try to go? No.
Matt Jones
If they had hired him, like, we would have all gotten behind it. Yeah, but I think the. Well, I can't. I don't know about. Should I say this?
Ryan Lemon
Just us, just the four of us sitting here talking.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I better not. I'll get in trouble. I just think. I think Mitch felt like he had to do it. I think he had to, but also was like, not really, but he had to make the effort that it didn't work out. I mean, think about if you had to deal with Cal for 15 years and then that was next.
Ryan Lemon
You wouldn't want that.
Matt Jones
You wouldn't want that. Derek. Go ahead, Derek.
F
Yeah, guys, good to hear from Coach Stoops today. But, you know, in this day of pay and play, the coaches aren't going to really point out any individual player too much. You would love to hear them say, this player didn't do this or didn't do that. But when you've got to worry about the next guy coming in and throwing people under the bus or actually pointing people out, they're not going to do that. I'd love to hear it. We all would. But make them be a little more responsible. But they're not going to do that. The second thing you talk about, the 12th region, the girls were being hosted in Pulaski county, but it was actually Mercer County High School and Danville Christian Academy. And the big problem was.
Matt Jones
So it was not. That was not. Hang on. That was not a Pulaski Southwestern fan. That was a Mercer county fan.
F
I do believe. I just know.
Matt Jones
Okay, well, wait a minute. Don't be saying you believe. I don't want to besmirch the good people of Mercer county unless it was Mercer County.
F
Yeah, it wasn't. It wasn't a Pulaski. But what happened was, in this area, we don't have many Christian schools or private schools, you know, coming in to the tournaments. And now the last few years, we have. So they have a really good team. Daniel Christian doesn't have a really good girl. She's going to go play for Louisville. But the situation was they were up by 30.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but it doesn't matter. I don't really care what the situation was. You can't act like that. That. You know what I mean? Like, I. Like, like it. It doesn't matter.
F
I'm not condoning that.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you're correct.
F
I'm not condoning that. I'm just giving you some backstory on what was going on at the game. I don't condone that behavior in any way. Yeah. So fans are stupid. Fans get frustrated.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Well, I might have to let you go, but I appreciate the call. Derek. I. I didn't. I. I'm sorry. I. We've. I've got to go to the next thing, but I. You can't act like that. And people keep telling me he says Mercer County. Everyone on the text machine is saying it's Southwestern. The people of Mercer county will be mad at Derek if he says it's them and it's not them.
Drew Franklin
I pulled the video up again and tried to zoom in on her shirt, and I realized I got way too close to that shirt and had to back up a little bit. But just. If you. If it takes two police officers to get you out of high school basketball game, then you're in the wrong. I don't care what you did. Look in the mirror and learn how to behave at a high school game.
Matt Jones
And it's a high school. It is a high school.
Ryan Lemon
That's why I think Trump and Elon will definitely look into this and they'll get it. Situated.
Matt Jones
Hopefully they do this well as they're doing with everything else with that. Mike. Go ahead, Mike. Hey, Matt, what's going on?
F
I just got a comment or two about the Mark Stoops.
Matt Jones
Okay.
F
I think he's been there.
Matt Jones
How long has he been there? Five.
F
Five years.
Matt Jones
Oh, longer than five. Thirteen.
F
And how many winning records?
Matt Jones
Like eight or nine. I think maybe seven, Eight. Probably it was. Didn't have a winning record his first two years. Had a winning record pretty much every year since. Except the last Covid and this year. Yeah, So I think. So I'd say he's had eight of 12 winning records. Yeah, I think he's overrated. Well, you thought that. Let's be honest. You thought that number was going to be a lot less. You thought I was going to say like three, but then I said eight, and it left you a little. You didn't think that was what the number was, did you? No, I didn't. I don't know the numbers. Yeah, I mean.
F
I just. I just think it's time for him to go. I. I think. I think.
Matt Jones
Well, I mean, he's not gonna go. Here's the thing. He's not gonna go right now. He's gonna be the coach next year. So, I mean, in my view, like, we might as well support him this year because, like, he's the coach whether you think he should be or not. Right, Right. Yeah. So I appreciate the call that. What are you laughing at?
Ryan Lemon
Call the day right there.
Matt Jones
Oh, boy.
Shannon The Dude
And doesn't even know that he thinks he's been there for five years. Did you just wake up five years ago?
Drew Franklin
You missed the 10 and three season. Man, that's a good one.
Matt Jones
Two of them.
Drew Franklin
I caught one of them. Miss the one before that.
Matt Jones
It was not Mercer County.
Ryan Lemon
It was definitely Southwestern.
Matt Jones
And a lot of people are angry at the guy for saying it was Mercer County.
Drew Franklin
Even I have a Mercer County.
Matt Jones
What person writes, you tell Derek to shut his mouth. We at Mercer county are classy. We only flash each other for fun.
Ryan Lemon
Somebody says, this is allegedly the grandma was the Southwestern assistant coach's mother in law or Southwestern coach's mother in law.
Matt Jones
Well, wait a minute. The one assistant coach, he seems to get kicked out.
Ryan Lemon
He got kicked out, too.
Matt Jones
So do you think he got kicked out? Taken up for his mother in law.
Ryan Lemon
Good for him if he did.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
What do you mean, good for him? Hang on. Just say you don't believe that. I refuse to believe that if you had a mother in law that acted like that, that you would Go get kicked out too.
Ryan Lemon
I probably would go up and try to defend her a little bit.
Matt Jones
Defender for what? She gets up and tries to fly, acts like she's flashing the crowd. What are you defending her from?
Ryan Lemon
You would do that for your mother?
Matt Jones
No, my mother would not do that.
Ryan Lemon
If her mother was that situation.
Matt Jones
Tell Karen Blondale that. You think she would do that?
Ryan Lemon
No, but if she ever got in a situation, you would hear everything to defend her.
Matt Jones
My mom would do it. Gay. First of all, I didn't get in until there was like a minute left and we'd already be down 30 and she would stand up and go, there's still time, boys. That was it.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
Technically, there's still time. Yes.
Matt Jones
I have dated women. I'm not getting kicked out for their mothers. If my mother's acting a fool, you think I'm getting kicked out for that?
Drew Franklin
If my mother's doing that, I'm getting under the bleachers and hiding. I want no part of it.
Matt Jones
Right. Look at Ryan. He's like, you just take the view. No matter what they're doing, you got to go take up.
Ryan Lemon
Take up for your mother.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Drew Franklin
I tell mom to keep her shirt on. Behave.
Matt Jones
Wait till in the two minute delay my mom hears that you think she'd be out there.
Ryan Lemon
I never said that. Never said that.
Matt Jones
That's exactly right. You're getting a text.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, yeah.
Matt Jones
Maybe she should have taken cornbread hemp.
Ryan Lemon
A lot of it.
Matt Jones
She would have full spectrum flower only hemp, cbd. She could have rest, relaxed. They gave me some. They gave some to Mario to give to me. These are the sleep ones. These are really good. These will knock you out.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And the CBD gummies, 400mg CBD extra strength. You can try them at home. Use the promo code KSR for 30% off with cornbread hip. Ryan will be here. Take it up for mothers in law. That's next on ksr. Welcome back. It is Kentucky sports Radio. Text machines is blowing up with people talking about this. One person writes, matt, if it's your mother, you hide. If it's your mother in law, I agree with Ryan. You have to defend her. Somebody's telling me that coach may have gotten fired after the game. Oh, really? Would you. Is that change your mind?
Ryan Lemon
I don't know what he was saying to the official. I just think you got it.
Matt Jones
I don't know if that's true. This is just, you know, these are. This is text machine scuttlebutt. One person writes, matt, I've written this question to you for three straight weeks and you all haven't answered it, which he has, by the way. I just need to know who are your and Drew's favorite comedians? I think you two are very funny and like comedy. I'm just getting into it. Who are your favorite ones? All right, so if you're talking all time for me, and I think Drew's going to agree with at least a couple of these, I think we both love Norm, of course. RIP Norm early Chris Rock early Dave Chappelle, Louis CK up until. Up until the stuff happened.
Drew Franklin
I was going to say Louis CK Pre things we learned about his private.
Matt Jones
Life, like, before all that. Bill Burr.
Drew Franklin
Bernie Mac, him downstairs, Nate.
Matt Jones
Bargotti and Shane Gillis, who I've really gotten into in the last year. So. So that's my group.
Drew Franklin
Who would you pretty much named all my favorites? Bergazzi has become my number one. And I've seen him so many times in so many different cities. I think he might actually have a restraining order. Sometimes we're just pure coincidence that we were in the same place. Louis CK Would have been number two if not for some disclosures about his private life.
Matt Jones
It's hard to support a guy to be like, into that weird stuff, you know, but he is funny.
Drew Franklin
I still like Chappelle, even though it's not what it once was. Very political.
Matt Jones
Everything's like he said, like, man, those first couple specials, though, I mean, that the best special of all time is the first Chris Rock one though, right? Like the O.J. s. Like, that's the best stand up special of all time. The one about O.J. and all that. Like, that's to me, I mean, I know people would say Eddie Murphy, but that's a little before my time. Oh, I also like Mitch Hedberg a lot, even though he's. I didn't discover him until he died. But like, his. His stuff is good.
Drew Franklin
There's a local guy who I'm still waiting to get bigger than he already is. And he's big, but he's in Cincinnati. I've seen him a couple times here in Lexington. His name's Josh Sneed. I think he's really funny. You should look him up on YouTube. But he's not quite to the level the names were mentioning. But he's also one of my favorite.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I like that one. Nikki Glazer, recently. I really like Shane Gillis now. I like that he. Shane Gillis is like, you know, now comedians. It feels like it's just like a way for People to give their used to be liberal opinions. Now it's conservative opinions. But Gillis like skewers everybody. And I like that about him. I think he's. I think he's really funny.
Drew Franklin
I think his sketches are so much better than his stand up. He's got a whole YouTube.
Matt Jones
I think he's really funny on his podcast too. I think. I just think he's a really funny dude. I like his. Something about his awkward manner when he talks about Alabama football and the Civil War and stuff. I just think he's funny.
Drew Franklin
Really? My favorite thing to do is go to like a comedy seller where I don't know any of them. I like, like learning about comedians that are.
Matt Jones
And then when they make it, like I saw Gary Goldman before he made it and then when he did, you're like, oh, I saw that guy. That's kind of cool. Sean, what's up? Sean?
F
Hey, real quick. You were saying yesterday about comedians. It's not Catherine Madigan, it's Kathleen. You'd probably find her funny. I called in about the. You're talking about the Michigan. Michigan State dust up. Remember, this is the same school that also did the same thing with osu, so.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's right.
F
Not that I like the Buckeyes, but Michigan's just jerks. Shannon. The only acceptable crystals are the burgers at lunch and the moms at the booty shaking contest. And my serious thing is for Matt. Have you ever considered having like a Hannity and Combs political talk show in addition or aside from ksr?
Matt Jones
Thank you. Well, you're not. That's not gonna, you know, you're gonna have to. I appreciate the call. Yeah, I mean, I did that with hey Kentucky for a while. You know, I gave Scott Jennings his first real start on tv. Don't know if that turned out the way I thought it would, but. But yeah, I enjoyed it. But no, I mean that's a lot of like, I like debating politics. I don't like when people yell at each other. And that's a lot of what it is now. Same with sports. I don't like listening to Stephen A. And people yell at each other. But pti where they're talking to each other, I do enjoy that.
Ryan Lemon
I do get a lot of people to ask me if you're gonna have a hey Kentucky tv.
Matt Jones
It's just, it's. It's too much. It's like every day, you know, it's a TV show is just different. You need a lot of people on it. It's just. And it weds you here. You can't. I like to travel. You can't really travel when you do tv. You gotta be here. Lou. And the makeup in the makeup, you know, made me look better. Luke. Go ahead. Luke.
F
Hey guys, just two comments and I don't know if you've said anything about this. I've been listening on and off today, but came up over my phone last night, Coach Cal was on a talk show or whatever and.
Matt Jones
Yeah, we talked about that. Yeah, we talked about that earlier.
F
Yeah, yeah. But the other comment, man, I, I'm, I live here in East Tennessee. I've grown up in East Tennessee my whole life. I'm a huge Cat fan. I'm not a Volcat by any means. I cheer for University of Kentucky and everything. But with Mark Stoops, yes, last year's season was disappointing. But where you live, where I live when we get seven, eight wins, man, I, I'm happy. I love watching my cats win seven, eight wins. But like the 10 win season, man, you thought I'd won a national championship walking around.
Matt Jones
Well, I do think that's a totally fair point, Luke. Appreciate the call about expectations. I think some of our fans expectations for football are too high. With that said, we gotta be better than we were last year, you know, because we were undisciplined and we didn't play well last year and hopefully that makes it better. Thank you to all the KSR listeners for the response to Kentucky Chambers flood relief efforts. Kentucky Chamber is comp has compiled a comprehensive list of community resources if you want to donate for all those affected by the flood.
