Our number two Kentucky Sports Radio 859-280-2287 here sponsored by Clayton & Croom go to ClaytonAndCrum C R U M E dot com for leather goods from Kentucky. They've got bags, they got belts, they got everything you want. Kentucky partner at Clayton and Croom People are telling me that they said that Porter Moser, that suit, tie and jacket combo he had been 5 and oh in he said it was his lucky combo. Ah well I guess it ain't that lucky. I'd go ahead and get rid of it now burn it. Just that's not. I mean I'm not. You know there's a lot of coaches that dress better than I do but I now know one I dress better than and it's the coach of Oklahoma.
Shannon The Dude
I think that stats worse because you're telling me he's worn that in public five other times.
Matt Jones
Once was plenty like a plaid gray jacket, red tie, black Shirt, black pants and camo.
Drew Franklin
Purple handkerchief.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
None of those colors go together. And it just. It was such an odd. He looked like a Batman villain.
Ryan Lemond
If I was a coach and I was four, no, I probably would have worn again. I keep wearing it.
Drew Franklin
Good luck. He may get fired, by the way. I mean, he's kind of right outfit. I don't think it's gonna be for the outfit, but he, you know, he's got. They're going to make the tournament. Probably. SEC is probably going to get 14 teams.
Matt Jones
That is crazy.
Ryan Lemond
That is great because Texas. You think Texas is in now, right?
Drew Franklin
I mean, I would think so. After that game. I think. I think Texas. I mean. Right. Lenardi has him as the last team in.
Ryan Lemond
Okay.
Drew Franklin
So. So we'll see. I mean, I guess they're the ones that we'll have to wait and see. But 14 team. I mean, only. Only two teams won't make the.
Matt Jones
Kick them out. They don't belong. They're making a mockery of the sec. What are they doing?
Drew Franklin
Unbelievable. Right?
Matt Jones
It's.
Ryan Lemond
It's something we may never ever see again.
Drew Franklin
Let's go over some of the other stuff. Louisville hits a buzzer beater. Yep.
Ryan Lemond
Hepburn.
Drew Franklin
Chucky Hepburn. I don't know what that dude was doing. For who they play Stanford. Stanford. Like he just threw the ball to Chucky Hepburn who hit it. That kid's legend has grown for ufl. He's going to go down as one of their most beloved players. Probably.
Ryan Lemond
He's good too. He played. We played well against Kentucky. So I asked you this on the pregame show. Is Louisville the favorite to win the conference now? That flags hurt would do.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. I don't know. I say, I think honestly the four teams are now pretty even that are left, but we'll see. But remember, Louisville has not. I'm not trying to downplay Louisville, but Louisville's first three games in the ACC were North Carolina, Duke and Clemson. Like they haven't played anybody this whole year.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Until. I mean. And they. They. They won the North. They lost the North Carolina. Duke game, I think. Or no one. North Carolina. Clemson lost to Duke. But they. Literally. Those are their first three games. They have not played anyone in a month and a half. So they will play Clemson. It'll be interesting to just watch them Drew against a good team because they haven't played one in forever.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
As much as we think the SEC has been crazy for how good it is, the ACC has been so bad. I saw a stat that they didn't even have A ranked game all year. Like two ranked teams didn't play each other all season in the acc.
Drew Franklin
That's amazing. I watched the Paul. I know that sounds weird, but I watched the Paul. They were up like 10 on Creighton. They did what we did, except they lost. And I feel so Sorry for Dwight PV at DePaul. They've lost more games at the end, but they had Creighton beat. They are setting up where there could be a St. John's Yukon final tomorrow night in the Garden, which could be like Shannon, one of the great atmospheres of all time. If you get St. John's and Yukon in Madison Square Garden on a Saturday night for the Big east title, that'll be one of the better college basketball games in the Garden in years.
Matt Jones
Yeah, St. John's man, they are just rolling right now. So that'll be Rick Patino's third opportunity to beat Danny Hurley.
Ryan Lemond
Right.
Matt Jones
Because they've beaten him twice already this year.
Drew Franklin
But I mean, those two teams both can sell out the Garden.
Matt Jones
Oh, yeah.
Drew Franklin
So if you put them both in there together, that could be Ryan. Just an amazing atmosphere.
Ryan Lemond
And you know, don't count out Patino, man, you know, he wins that.
Drew Franklin
Well, he is the one seed, so I'm not counting him out.
Ryan Lemond
That guy's a magician. I just know they're going to end up in our bracket. I just know it. When the brackets come out, somehow St. John's is going to be in Kentucky's bracket.
Matt Jones
The latest is ucla.
Drew Franklin
I'm fine with that. Yeah, I mean, again, we could without Butler, like, let's say we play ucla. I mean, that game could be a toss up, you know, I mean, I don't think we're a huge favorite against any of those six seeds without them. But we can also win. We can win that game.
Matt Jones
And then they got Texas Tech as the two and Florida is the one.
Drew Franklin
No, I don't know if we can beat them, but you know, Florida may.
Matt Jones
Not make it to that far. You never know.
Drew Franklin
That's exactly right. They could lose.
Matt Jones
Bracket opens up every year, so there's a chance.
Drew Franklin
You're exactly right about that. Big 12. Kansas out.
Ryan Lemond
Kansas out.
Drew Franklin
What a disappointing year for them.
Ryan Lemond
They've had an awful year. They also ruined our KSR parlay this week, so it makes me even more mad at Kansas.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, well, I think Mississippi State ruined ours this week. We were. We. That's two in a row where we've had four of the five games and. And didn't get the fifth. But they are now Out. So you're going to get a new Big 12 winner for. For. For the first time in a long time.
Ryan Lemond
You know who's still alive in the Big 12 tournament right now?
Drew Franklin
BYU, Texas Tech. Who beat. Who beat them yesterday? Kansas, someone. Oh, Arizona.
Ryan Lemond
Yes.
Drew Franklin
I don't know who the. Who. Who. The other one. Other one is. Arkansas loses on a buzzer beater. That might have been the second biggest cheer in the arena besides Kentucky. Right.
Ryan Lemond
Brazil at the free throw line with two free throws to put them ahead. Missed them. Buzz both. And then they go down. Ole Miss. Padula hadn't hit a three all game.
Drew Franklin
Boom.
Ryan Lemond
Hits it for the game winner.
Shannon The Dude
I hated to see that.
Drew Franklin
Just.
Shannon The Dude
That was awesome. Never been a bigger Old Miss fan for two hours like I was yesterday. I just didn't want a scenario where Cal's playing on Saturday or Sunday or back home.
Matt Jones
And that could have easily happened, too, if that shot doesn't go in. And, you know, it could have been.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, we didn't want them to keep going.
Matt Jones
Right.
Drew Franklin
But that was one of our biggest.
Shannon The Dude
Complaints was him not going far in the SEC tournament. If you would have turned around and done it with them, that would have been hard to watch.
Drew Franklin
And Cal told him to miss the free throws. He's got an unconventional style.
Matt Jones
I'll never understand that logic. But you know what?
Shannon The Dude
I'm not.
Matt Jones
I'm not a Hall of Fame coach.
Drew Franklin
It's unconventional. Shannon, you don't understand the. The lack of convention.
Matt Jones
I'll remember that next time I screw up here on the job.
Shannon The Dude
I like the Arkansas fans defending it like, well, we didn't need to win that because we need to rest.
Drew Franklin
For what? Like, you haven't won anything. Yeah. So. So anyway, yesterday, just overall in college basketball, an amazing day, really. Just an amazing day. And culminated with our victory. Who's up next? Michael is up next. Michael. Go ahead, Michael.
Caller
Hey, fellas. I want to give a huge shout out to my buddy, Brock Lloyd. It's his birthday weekend. We watch a lot of games together. He huge UK fan, listens to y'all every day. I was at his house last night watching the game. Me and my family was there the last few, few minutes. Man, I was. I was so upset about what was going on. I started putting my shoes on. He knew I was about to walk out the door of his house because I just thought we just blew it. And then when Ortega hits that shot, I mean, he like, bear hugs me and, like, up just pumped up about it. So it was amazing watching Ortega do that again to his, you know, former team. But if you're Butler, would you do anything you could to play your last few games? I mean, kind of pull out like that Michael Jordan vibe when he had the flu game.
Drew Franklin
We don't know what the injury is. I mean, this is, this is not a flu. Like if your shoulders separated, it's separated. Like you can't just all of a sudden will it to be good. So you know, we don't know what the injury is.
Caller
They said he pulled, they, they said he was able to reach his show, you know, pull his, or lift his arm above his head. So I would think if it.
Drew Franklin
Doesn'T mean he can play, I mean, there's a difference between, I mean, wrap it up, get some socks, respectful. You have no idea what you're talking about. I mean, if you, if you tear, you know, you can tear a shoulder and still be able to painfully lift your shoulder up in the air. It doesn't mean you can go get hit and play a basketball game as a physical point guard who has to reach in and like it's, you got.
Matt Jones
To have more mobility than just raising your arm up. It's got to go everywhere.
Drew Franklin
I mean, I mean, you got a lot of stuff you have to do. So I, I, listen, I, I'm not going to question Jackson, Robinson or Lamont Butler's toughness because they both tried to come back when they didn't necessarily have to Ryan. So I, I, I, I'm, Whatever happens, it happens.
Ryan Lemond
Both of the injuries are going to end up requiring surgery. Jackson's already had his. If it's a torn labrum, he's probably going to have to have surgery. I mean, the kids are playing through a lot of pain and you know, he wants to play.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Last thing I'm going to do is question Lamont Butler's toughness and, you know, willingness to play. If he could play, he would play, but I just don't, I think it's situation where he probably can.
Drew Franklin
Look, these guys careers are over and both Lamont Butler especially, but probably Jackson, like they're never going to play in the NBA. So like this is probably gonna be the biggest games they're gonna have. So if they could get out there, Drew, they'd get out there, right?
Shannon The Dude
Absolutely. I mean, Butler got a taste of this at San Diego State, that Final four run. They come to Kentucky to do something bigger and finish the job. They only have a few weeks left in their careers. However it plays out, I assume they'd want to be out there if they had Any possibility if they could.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Who's next? Adam is up next. Adam. Go ahead, Adam.
Caller
Hey, guys, I've been hit or miss on the.
Matt Jones
On the show today, so I don't.
Caller
Know if you've already discussed this. Have you talked about the latest bracketology in the Lexington region?
Drew Franklin
No. What is the Lexington region?
Caller
So the latest Lenardi update has Louisville as a 7, Arkansas as a 10, Alabama as the 2, but St. John's is a 3. What if St. John's could bump up to that, too? And you would have Louisville, John Caliperi, and Rick Patino all coming.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Right now. So let me. Let me read you the legacy. That's. I appreciate you bringing that up. So right now he's got the games in Lexington as Auburn plays against the bad team, Marquette and Baylor. That's not a big one. But then the bottom half, Louisville versus Arkansas, Alabama, Wofford. Can you imagine Louisville versus Arkansas as a first round game in Lexington?
Ryan Lemond
Who you root for?
Matt Jones
I would kind of want to be at that game.
Drew Franklin
Well, you. You can go. If we don't go. Louisville, Arkansas.
Ryan Lemond
My goodness.
Drew Franklin
In lexing. That's a good question. Who you for?
Ryan Lemond
Who you rooting for now?
Drew Franklin
Who are you rooting for in the first round of Louisville ARCs? I'm gonna go ahead and say it. I'm rooting for Louis.
Matt Jones
Oh, wow.
Ryan Lemond
Did he actually say that?
Matt Jones
I don't know, man.
Ryan Lemond
He said that.
Matt Jones
I don't know.
Drew Franklin
I'm not rooting for Louisville past that game. Like, if they play Alabama in the next game. Roll taught, but in his sec, it's.
Matt Jones
Supposed to mean more, but I don't.
Drew Franklin
Want John Caliper getting a tournament win on Rupp Arena's floor.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I don't want Louisville either, though.
Drew Franklin
When they won the NCAA tournament in 2013, they won their first two games in Lexington on that run. Remember I was in the elevator with Tom Jurich and his son during that.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
I'm gonna go ahead and say it. If It's Louisville, Arkansas, L1, C4.
Matt Jones
Cut the audio, Rick.
Ryan Lemond
Save that spit water in his mouth again.
Drew Franklin
All right. Who you picking?
Ryan Lemond
Louisville.
Drew Franklin
Okay, what about you?
Shannon The Dude
Never. Louisville for me? Never.
Drew Franklin
So you're. You're rooting for Arkansas. You're saying. You're saying pigs.
Shannon The Dude
I would not use the word rooting for Arkansas. You have to pick over my dead body. Am I saying pig suey or go cards? But of the two evils, I would rather Arkansas get a win than Louisville.
Matt Jones
See, for Louisville, it's about the program. For Arkansas, it's About the coach. So I would rather have Arkansas win than Louisville.
Drew Franklin
Two. Two.
Matt Jones
Yeah, two.
Drew Franklin
Two. What about you all here? Sitting here, Mario? L1. There's one.
Caller
One.
Drew Franklin
What about you, pig suey? What do you got? L1. So see, 43.
Ryan Lemond
I think the, the point of this whole thing is you don't want Caliperi to win a game on Rina's floor twice this season to beat us and then to be Arkansas. No, I picked Louisville.
Drew Franklin
Oh, I'm sorry. Yes, you picked Louisville. I got you. Okay. Who's up next?
Ryan Lemond
Mark is next.
Drew Franklin
Mark, what do you got? Mark?
Caller
Good morning, gentlemen.
Drew Franklin
Good morning.
Caller
Wanted to get on Shane. I wanted to get on Shannon. He said people don't have things to do Saturday. Some of us got to work, man.
Matt Jones
So. I know some, but I mean like majority of people have money through Friday jobs. I know the world doesn't shut down on Saturdays. Got it.
Caller
Majority of us have Saturday jobs too.
Matt Jones
Oh, sorry. Well, I guess I do too then. If I've, you know, I'm on the air Saturday.
Drew Franklin
Well, go ahead, sir. What do you got?
Caller
I'll be up at Saturday at 5:30, just like I was this morning.
Drew Franklin
All right. Anything else?
Caller
Not go cats.
Matt Jones
He just wanted us to know that he's a hard working man. I got you. Go punch the clock.
Drew Franklin
He wanted you to feel bad.
Matt Jones
I feel so horrible.
Drew Franklin
You need to feel bad.
Matt Jones
Yes. People work on Saturday.
Drew Franklin
Next. Shadow is next. Shane, what's up?
Caller
Hey, guys. What a great day, man. So today is picture day for my two little ones. I have a fourth grader and a second grader and they had to get in bed early. And so the house had to shut down kind of early and I had to watch the game at the back of the house and be real quiet. And of course, you know, I'm. I'm trying to temper all my excitement during the game. And of course at the end of the game when we're looking like we're going to let this thing slip away, I was just, you know, I was, I was making sure that I wasn't going to wake the house up with just, you know, yelling at the tv. But when Ortega hit that shot, man, and when they went wild and when the SEC network was just showing all the replays, I couldn't relax. I could not wind down. I was up listening to you guys until 3:30. I had to take my cornbread hemp sleep gummies so I could get to bed. Thank God for him.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I appreciate it, man. I got to see. Go ahead.
Caller
I got to see the red. I got to see the blood moon. I wasn't planning on it but I got to see it. And what an amazing, yeah, what an amazing time to be a Kentucky fan. These guys are such a gift. The whole team as well as the staff as well as our coach. You know, it's just fantastic and so thankful for all of our fans that are were able to make the trip down to Nashville. I've got some pretty.
Drew Franklin
I'm about to cut you off right there. I hate, I hate to do it but I'm about to cut you out. I appreciate, appreciate the, appreciate the call servepro.com if you have a water or wind disaster. Servepro.com we hope you don't need us, but be ready. Servpro.com they'll restore your home as good as new. If you have fire, water damage cleanup and restoration, it's ServPro. I was just talking to one of my buddies here who had some damage. He lives close to Asheville during the thing. Oh yeah, Serve pro, come in. Fix your home. Make it like it didn't even happen. It's servepro.com that's s e r v p r o dot com. We will take a break and be right back. I'll give you an update on this poll. I polled it on Twitter. We'll see what our fans pick. That's here on KSR. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. Here's a little interesting story outside the world of basketball for a second University of Texas golfer Luke Potter.
Ryan Lemond
Luke Potter.
Drew Franklin
Do you know who Luke Potter is?
Ryan Lemond
He's a University of Arizona golfer.
Drew Franklin
Texas, Texas golfer. Maybe he just listened the first part of the story. He was at TPC Sawgrass with his buddies and Rory McElroy was playing in practice round and, and he started heckling Rory McElroy. He hit a drive on 18 into the water. Porter was standing outside the ropes, asked for and started heckling him and was like videoing him. The problem is because he's a golfer for Texas. Somebody ID him on the broadcast and was like that's Texas golfer Luke Potter. And now he absolutely is getting destroyed. He has apologized and said, yeah, I'm sorry about that. His, his coach though has a great line. Shannon. They asked his coach, why do you support her? First of all, apologized. Look, I made a mistake. I apologize for it. I'll take ownership of it. That's a good apology. But his golf coach I think was trying to help him. I don't know if this helped Drew. He goes, he's got a hole in his heart. When he opened his mouth, he had no idea what would come out. And then it resulted in that fashion.
Matt Jones
That's quite a statement.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I don't think he was doing him any favors. Just let the apology set.
Drew Franklin
I think the apology was fine.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Let that go.
Drew Franklin
Drew. He had no. When he opened his mouth, he had no idea what words were gonna come out of his mouth.
Shannon The Dude
I'm looking at coach, what's going on there? Throw me under the bus. The video's neat because Rory just walks over and takes his phone out of his hand and walks off with it. The kid's just standing there stunned. He, like, looks at the person with him like, what just happened? And Rory just walks down the fairway with his phone.
Matt Jones
It's kinda like Ryan, you know, when he opens his mouth, they have no idea what he's gonna say.
Drew Franklin
I mean, you can't just walk around smacking people. So Roy had to take his and just walk down the fairway.
Ryan Lemond
I think the coach is kind of saying this ain't the first time that Luke has said something.
Drew Franklin
Start saying that about Ryan. Yeah. When he makes one of his sort of, you know, off color remarks. Yeah, I'm going to go. You know what? When he opens his mouth, he has no idea what's going.
Matt Jones
He has a hole in his heart.
Drew Franklin
Yes, yes. And he doesn't know what to. To do. All right, so Alabama, only a five and a half point favorite. Drew, you know, I'll be honest with you. I'm not going to bet on Alabama because I can't bet against Kentucky. But if I was going to five and a half, I'd probably bet on Alabama. I mean, I think Kentucky's a big underdog today.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I was surprised the line was that low. Almost wondered if they were ready to hit that button before they knew anything about Butler. Because this is the way I know it was at Tuscaloosa, but they won by 12 or something down there. Played well in Rup, went by 5 in Rup with a healthier team. I was shocked to see that low. And I'm with you. I wouldn't bet on Alabama, but you probably can catch me betting on Kentucky.
Ryan Lemond
To cover which of the four games today you think could be a potential upset.
Drew Franklin
I mean, none. I actually think, oddly, Texas over Tennessee is the biggest chance of an upset. Just because Trey Johnson can go off, you know, he could get. But honestly, I think probably all 4 favorites win, if you make me predict. But because I don't think Missouri's great Ole Miss, just their style. I mean, they've beaten Auburn once, so maybe, maybe so. But to me, that makes it more likely Auburn win. So I really don't know if any of them are going to be upset.
Shannon The Dude
Auburn's coming in.02 in the last week. I don't see a world where they're losing three in a row. I think.
Drew Franklin
I don't. I think I'll. I think Texas might have the best chance. Even though that might be the biggest spread I could see them. That would be the one.
Ryan Lemond
That's what I picked too, because Tennessee, they're not the greatest offensive team.
Drew Franklin
Think about Tennessee, the way they play, they can beat anybody, but they can also lose because they can go long periods without score.
Ryan Lemond
Right.
Drew Franklin
So. So I don't, you know, that's my.
Matt Jones
Three straight days, though, is going to catch up with you at some point. Texas is now going to be on the third straight game and then Tennessee.
Drew Franklin
Will have a lot of fans, I think. I think we. You underrate. We get so excited about Big Blue Nation that we underrate how many people Auburn and Tennessee bring. They're not quite at the Arkansas peak during the 90s, but they're getting there in terms of fans. I mean, Tennessee and Auburn have by distinctly the second and third best fan base right now, Drew, at these tournaments.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I remember last year and I got a little cocky with celebrating Tennessee's early loss, but they played with the noon game, I think. So we really never got that packed atmosphere where they're all there at once. I think Tennessee fans were gone quickly. Kentucky fans were gone quickly. This year's going to be a little different.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Who's up next?
Ryan Lemond
Got Mike up next.
Drew Franklin
Mike. Go ahead, Mike.
Caller
Hey, guys, as a motivational deal, if you were Mark Pope, would you not bring your national championship ring to one of the practice or even into the locker room and say, hey guys, you want one of these?
Drew Franklin
Go get it. He probably already has done that, I would think. I mean, I would assume he has noted his national championship days. I think he did it from the first time he was there. So, you know, I appreciate the call. I don't. I don't feel like you got national championship aspirations right now. It's a. It really is kind of a how many more can we win? Right. That's at least the way I look at it.
Ryan Lemond
And I think last night was huge. You got to win in March at the SEC tournament in Nashville. That's what the fan base was just craving for it. I still think he needs to get the win in the NCAA tournament. You wouldn't want to be a one and done next week to get that one. And then I think most fans, for what they've gone through, losing all these guys, injuries, will be satisfied.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you got to take it one day at a time. I mean that's, that's just the life of the tournament. You know, you can't look too far ahead. So, you know, if they can get by today, you know, they have a chance to make a miraculous run. If they were to somehow get Sunday, like if they were to beat Alabama.
Drew Franklin
If they were to win tonight. Yeah, you should go ahead and like say I move my A minus to an A for Mark Pope. I really do. I mean, if they win tonight because I don't think they really have any business. You know, we've talked about overperforming. I think they over perform with their full roster. You take Robinson and Butler off. I mean, just look what we have right now. We got the sixth man at Oklahoma. Right. We got a dude that's been on a two year mission as our point guard. We got a transfer from Dayton, a transfer from Drexel and a transfer from Wake Forest. We have no business being in these games.
Shannon The Dude
Kobe, Brad didn't even start a dating.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Six man at date, six man at Dayton.
Drew Franklin
Like we have no business being in these games. And so the fact that we do, the fact we are, I think is a huge testament to Pope.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Two of our best recruits is a kid from Lyon county and a kid from Hazard, Ireland.
Shannon The Dude
They're in the Sweet 16 championship.
Matt Jones
It's like the island of misfit toys. I don't mean, I don't mean any disrespect, but it's just a hodgepodge of players.
Drew Franklin
Wasn't Ansley Almanor like the fourth biggest scorer at Fairleigh Dickinson? Yeah, I mean it's, there's no reason for us to be in these games, but we are and that's. That's awesome. We'll take a break. Be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. It is time to score big at Don Franklin. This segment sponsored by the Don Frankel dealership. You can get up to $5,000 off MSRP on a 2025 Buick Encore. What's a Buick Encore?
Ryan Lemond
It's a Buick Encore.
Drew Franklin
I understand it's a Buick, but like, what kind of like what's it look like? Is it a truck?
Ryan Lemond
Kind of like my car? Kind of a falling apart. Yes.
Matt Jones
Big, beautiful car.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. $25,000 or $5,000 off? Sorry, not $25,000 off. That'd be a lot. Don Franklin, auto.com 6000vehicles. It's Don Franklin. Driven by family. We are here in Nashville. All right, let's go over some scheduling. Girl Sweet 16 is going on in Lexington. Games all day. Most of the favorites have continued to win. So games all day. Cooper and Sacred Heart tonight. Those are two big ones, right? Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Sacred Hearts, like number one, Cooper's like number three.
Drew Franklin
So this, it could be the state championship game. Maybe. Maybe tonight in the late night game. We will have the game at KS Bar. You know, I say get there early, but the game, if it's like tonight, last night, it might not start till whenever. But get your seat. I think it should be a great atmosphere there tomorrow or. Excuse me, tonight. And two games in one day. When's the last time you think Kentucky played? How many times Kentucky you think played the majority of two games in one day?
Ryan Lemond
That's a great question. Do you have to go back when the SEC tournament played semifinals and then the finals at night?
Drew Franklin
Did they do that or was that.
Ryan Lemond
They did it like way back?
Drew Franklin
Like when?
Ryan Lemond
Like back.
Shannon The Dude
Like a time frame?
Drew Franklin
I mean, are we talking like what year?
Ryan Lemond
Like 1880, Unko late 70s, early 80s.
Drew Franklin
So you think they did two in.
Ryan Lemond
One day and played the semifinals and then played the final Saturday night before they moved it to Sunday?
Matt Jones
That's a fact check.
Shannon The Dude
I think you're thinking of the high school sweet 16.
Drew Franklin
I think that I'm gonna throw a challenge flag. I do not think the SEC ever.
Matt Jones
Played double headers for. Double headers for basketball.
Drew Franklin
SEC tournament. I mean, he's thinking the boys sweet 16.
Matt Jones
Right.
Drew Franklin
But he's trying to, like, act like he's not. And I think that's what it is.
Matt Jones
You call him the Oscar Combs of ksr. I mean, Oscar would.
Drew Franklin
No, no, he's not the Oscar. He's Oscar Holmes, which is his cousin. 859-280-2287. Who's next? Doug is up next. Doug, go ahead, Doug.
Caller
Hey, guys, it's Doug out in Spokane. I just wanted to call and completely agree with Matt. You cannot pull for Arkansas on RUP Arena's floor.
Drew Franklin
It's going to be. The fans seem to agree with you, by the way. The fans seem to agree with you. I put the poll up. We now have 4,000 votes. It's 56. 44 will cheer for Louisville. I. Who would have ever thought that would be the case?
Ryan Lemond
Wow.
Drew Franklin
But that gives you A sense. And the Arkansas people have already retweeted trying to get Arkansas people to pick them. So I bet the actual Kentucky fan number is even higher than that.
Caller
Yeah. So all the way, Louis now.
Drew Franklin
Guys, appreciate it.
Shannon The Dude
I have a Ryan update.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Shannon The Dude
He's right.
Drew Franklin
He's wrong.
Ryan Lemond
I knew I was right.
Shannon The Dude
From 1930 to 1950 they would occasionally do a double hitter.
Matt Jones
Oh, you said 70s and 80s, but.
Ryan Lemond
I went longer than that.
Shannon The Dude
Looks like 1950 was the last time.
Drew Franklin
How did you know that, by the way?
Ryan Lemond
I think it came up at one point in my long, historic career.
Matt Jones
That's a better answer than what you normally give us.
Ryan Lemond
I didn't sleep at a Holiday Express.
Drew Franklin
Because you stayed at Best Western Plus.
Ryan Lemond
It's not just the Best Western, Matt.
Matt Jones
Put some respect on it. Western Plus.
Drew Franklin
Can I also tell you all at home how happy both Shannon and Ryan were to come in here and tell me, you know, what they have at the Best Western Plus. And I'm thinking, what? Man, it's got to be awesome. He was like in the lobby. They have massaging chairs.
Matt Jones
They do. And they're free and they are life changing.
Drew Franklin
It's just like you're at Fayette Mall in 1998, except you're at the fest.
Matt Jones
No, I'm about to get on Amazon and buy one for my house. I don't know how much they cost. I don't care.
Drew Franklin
Care.
Matt Jones
It's like having a personal masseuse after.
Ryan Lemond
This, after KSR yesterday with Shannon had to do three hours standing up and he had to sit in that chair because he had a four hours.
Matt Jones
I don't care if everybody walking in the lobby sees me publicly getting a massage from a chair. I don't care. It may be a little awkward, but it's fine.
Drew Franklin
Dude, I hope you at least keep on a towel.
Matt Jones
Oh, yeah, I wrap it around my waist. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
859-28-0-2287 to the flip. Who's next? Gotta be careful about the flip. Go ahead.
Ryan Lemond
Okay.
Drew Franklin
Matthew, you didn't like that one, did you?
Matt Jones
Rick?
Ryan Lemond
You guys are a real hoot.
Drew Franklin
Thank you. Go ahead.
Ryan Lemond
Good morning.
Drew Franklin
Oh, good morning. How are you?
Caller
Good, thanks.
Drew Franklin
I just want to say you mentioned.
Caller
A while ago that you know our team, like who do we have on this team?
Drew Franklin
And I think it's a testament to.
Caller
How much heart these boys play with. And it's just been a fantastic season to watch them and I enjoy listening to our show. Always puts a smile and a laugh in the day and I want to give a shout out To Green county boys basketball. Been a fun season to watch them. And lastly, happy pie day, everybody.
Drew Franklin
Happy what day?
Matt Jones
PI 314.
Drew Franklin
Hi. Day three. Wants three. One, four. There you go. I appreciate the call. Did not think about PI day.
Ryan Lemond
I got something I'm gonna ask you.
Drew Franklin
Okay, don't point at me.
Ryan Lemond
The Tornado game, Georgia, did they not play two games that day? They played semifinals and then the finals that night.
Matt Jones
They did.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, but Kentucky wasn't in it. But yes, you're right. They did do that. They did do that.
Ryan Lemond
Georgia won them both. Georgia beat us, and then they won the championship.
Drew Franklin
Man, look at you. Look at this guy. Kentucky wasn't in it. But you're right, they did play two games.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I was there for the. When Kentucky played Georgia, I was one of the guys that got to Kentucky.
Drew Franklin
Georgia game was in the. In the morning. And then they would have played later in the day had they won. And Georgia did play later. Yeah. And then Georgia won the tournament. You're right.
Ryan Lemond
What was the dude's name from Georgia that hit the shot? Romel hit the shot to put us ahead. And then the white guy from Georgia.
Drew Franklin
I seem Galifianakis.
Ryan Lemond
What is it?
Drew Franklin
No, no, Dwayne. Don't scream things unless you know. Sorry. It's just been a long night.
Shannon The Dude
He is wearing balls gear.
Drew Franklin
8, 5, 9, 2, 8. Oh, 22. 87. Who's next? Mark is up there. Mark. Go ahead, Mark.
Caller
Oh, what a game, guys. So I have now seen Ortega away on SportsCenter Top 10 four times this year, and he may have been on more. I may have just missed it, but is he now the Kentucky player that's.
Drew Franklin
Been on SportsCenter top 10 the most in a season. I bet Wall was on it more Just. Just looking back. But, I mean, he's got. If he's on four times, that's pretty good. You know, Wall had a crazy set of dunks, and so I would say Wall. But Otaga, if he's on it four times, that's pretty good.
Shannon The Dude
Drew, I'm trying to think what those would be. The two buzzer beaters. I remember a big dunk, but he.
Drew Franklin
Had a dunk on Travis Leslie of Georgia where the dude's still laying down. Travis Leslie also had a dunk on Cousins that game. That was. They. They. They went both ways.
Shannon The Dude
Fox and Monk ended up on there a lot, too, if I'm not mistaken.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, but then I did. I didn't realize that. Before we go to break, I do want to note something. The passing of John Feinstein who was a sports writer, I would argue probably the best sports book author maybe ever, but certainly of this generation. He started his first book. He didn't like Kentucky, really, because his first book was. He was at Duke in 1978, and he wrote a book. Actually wrote it later, but it was about the 78 Duke team, which included, of course, they lost to Kentucky in the final. But he got famous because he wrote Season on the Brink about Bobby Knight, which some people would say is the greatest sports book of all time, where he followed Bobby Knight for a season. Bobby Knight was not a fan of the book, but it is great if you are at all a college basketball fan or reader. If you've never read Season on the Brink, you need to do it. He then did a book called Season Inside, which was about the NCAA tournament one year. And he wrote a book about the NFL, a book about tennis, a book about golf. Basically went into every sport and did kind of a season behind the scenes. I think he's the best to ever do that. He was kind of a curmudgeon. He could be hard to get along with. We had him on this show once, if you remember, at the PGA Championship in Louisville. And he was. He was nice, but he was also a little contentious during that. But if you're talking about somebody that was a master at their craft, there's not been a better author of sports books, at least in my lifetime. So people would pick guys from like the 50s and 60s, but in my lifetime, nobody's been better. 68 years old, passed away, and just a huge college basketball guy, too. And, you know, the. The Bobby Knight legend, for better or worse, in many ways, was built by that book. So he passed away at 68. And I wanted to say rest in peace to I own. I rearranged my mom and I rearranged my books recently because I have, say, like probably 1500, 2000 books. Books. I realized when we were doing it. John Feinstein, I have the second most books of any author, really, from him, which is kind of amazing because I, you know, but I think I have almost everything he wrote. So wrote a great one. You would like Ryan, about the Army Navy rivalry.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, I would like that.
Drew Franklin
He followed army and Navy for a year. I think he called it Civil War. And it's a. It's a really good book. I think you would like that. So rest in Peace to John Feinstein. 859280, 2287. We will take a break and come back for the final segment. This is Kentucky Sports Radio welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Final Segment 8592802287 Matt, Ryan, Drew and Shannon. The segment is sponsored by UK Federal Credit Union. You know you need somebody, Drew, you need somebody sometimes to help you with your money, don't you?
Shannon The Dude

Drew Franklin

It's UK Federal Credit Union. They can find us online. Ukfcu.org it's banking only better at UK Federal Credit Union refund some credit approval, loan requirements, visa ukfcu.org terms conditions membership else be required. Fairly insured by NCUA. All right, let's do our Draft Kings SEC picks of the day. Ole Miss, Auburn. Auburn's an 11 half point favorite against Ole Miss. You could go on DraftKings and let it go. You get. Do you? I, I got to take ole Mission. Give me eleven and a half. Beat them last week. I don't think they're going to win, But I got 11 and a half.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you give me 11 and a half. I'm going to take Ole Miss.
Ryan Lemond
I don't know how. I cannot take ole miss in 11.
Drew Franklin
And maybe that's what they want you to think. You know Dwayne over there who's been wrong at every pick, he says Auburn to cover. So. Yeah, this way. Just burp.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, I gave you one guess.
Drew Franklin
Okay, I guess hubby is a good guess.
Shannon The Dude
That echoed.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, that was a, that was a big one. Who you got?
Shannon The Dude
You know, I, not knowing the number, I was ready to take Auburn about any scenario but that's, that's too high. I'm going Ole Miss.
Drew Franklin
All right, Texas. Tennessee. Tennessee's a ten and a half point favorite. Give me Texas. I guess I'm taking the dogs to take these covers.
Matt Jones
Points prize are pretty hefty. I'm going to go with Texas.
Ryan Lemond
All right, Texas. Tennessee's on upset alert. Texas may win this game.
Shannon The Dude
I don't think they're on episode upset alert, but I'll go hook them to cover the spread.
Drew Franklin
Florida's a 9 1/2.4 favorite on Missouri. I'm gonna take Florida to cover that. I think they, I think they blow Missouri out.
Matt Jones
Yeah, Missouri's been on the downtrend. I don't know what's going on with them lately, but I'll take Florida. I agree with you.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, Missouri won last night, but they struggled. They had to win that game. So I'm going Florida.
Shannon The Dude
We're just going to keep agreeing.
Drew Franklin
All right. Kentucky, Alabama pass. Alabama's a seven and a half point favorites.
Matt Jones
I could see a world where Kentucky could hang with Alabama within seven and a half. I don't know that I would pick Kentucky to win, but I'd have picked.
Drew Franklin
This to win if we had Butler.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I would too. Yeah, I could see him maybe losing by four, maybe five, something like that. I'll take Kentucky to.
Ryan Lemond
I too will pass.
Shannon The Dude
Okay, Drew, I'll take Kentucky to cover. But I really like the over. That was lower than I thought it'd be. I hit the over last night. I'm doing well on totals down here.
Drew Franklin
Let's just a couple other ranked teams playing each other. Marquette, St. John. St. John's a 4 1/2 point favorite at home. Marquette almost lost Xavier yesterday. You take St. John's to get to cover Clemson, Louisville tonight. Clemson's a one and a half point favorite.
Matt Jones
I'll take Clemson in this one. Yeah, I mean like we pointed out earlier, Lobo hasn't played anybody.
Ryan Lemond
Big guy Scheffler. And Clemson gets the win.
Shannon The Dude
Go Tigers.
Drew Franklin
It's a great. It's going to be. To me, this is a game to see like is Louisville good? Because Louisville beat Clemson earlier this year but it was at their home place. Clemson shot like 14% from the field. I'm going to take Louisville because I think they're better than I. Than a lot of people think, even though I don't think they're great. So I'm. If you're giving me a point and a half, I'll take.
Matt Jones
You got a lot of pick. And Louisville in this show today, by.
Drew Franklin
The way, I never thought I'd see a day that any. I mean the fact that Louisville, 56% of our fans would pick Louisville over Arkansas. I never thought I'd see a day our fans would ever pick Louisville over anyone that was not named Duke or Tennessee. There are times I could see a scenario where they would pick Duke or Louisville over Duke in Tennessee. But to pick them over a non Duke in Tennessee school, I don't think I'd ever see the day. But 56% pick Louisville.
Ryan Lemond
Is it the fact that it's Cal?
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean wherever Cal went. Wherever Cal went would be the.
Drew Franklin
I mean it's the.
Matt Jones
The answer is if it was Cal went to Oklahoma, it would be Oklahoma. We hate it.
Ryan Lemond
Isn't it and we don't have a lot of reason to hate Kelsey yet and we we beat him pretty good.
Matt Jones
At Rupp arena and he's done a good job.
Drew Franklin
I do think that's part of it. We did beat Louisville. We did beat Arkansas but it's Cal I if you ever want anyone to explain why this fan base was ready to move on 56% of them would choose pick Louisville against for goodness sake.
Shannon The Dude
That is a pretty damning poll result there for how the fan base felt about Cal there at the end.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Who's up next?
Matt Jones
Got Ed.
Drew Franklin
Up next Ed. Go ahead Ed.
Caller
Hey man. Been a Kentucky fan for a long time. I'm 68 years old. I've seen a lot of great games victories and I got a rank last night is one of my top seven for the follow following reasons. One, we had to overcome no butler, no point card two, with some bad officiating. Three, you had a 10 point lead with a minute to go or some change then five seconds to go you're down. One, you're in a tournament situation and we won. It just ranks up there within the top 10. Would they.
Drew Franklin
I totally. I don't know if it's in the top 10 but it's. It's high for me. I appreciate the call. I mean the if we had just. Let's say we didn't blow it at the end Shannon and we just won by 11 I think people would have enjoyed the game but it wouldn't be quite the same. I think the way it happened is part of why it'll be remembered.
Matt Jones
Yeah. The way it was won, all the factors that go into it, it's just it makes it a special game.
Shannon The Dude
We thought we were going home. That's what makes it so much crazier. Also doing it twice your old team, that's one thing but most people in that building when Oklahoma got that one point.
Drew Franklin
Oh everybody that was.
Shannon The Dude
That was it. It was like we're heading to the car.
Drew Franklin
I was upstairs until Dwayne spoiled the ending and I was already and I was already thinking what am I going to say on the postgame show? First of all will anyone call and secondly, what am I going to say and then what are we going to do tomorrow? I mean I'd already go tone of.
Matt Jones
This show would have been completely different.
Drew Franklin
I think I mean it was actually the turkey hunter over here who said after the game this fan base needed that one. I honestly think they could lose today and lose in the first round and this fan base will be a Lot better off because they won yesterday just because they got. I think that one yesterday is going to be. Or this morning is going to be Ryan. A massive one for the fan base.
Ryan Lemond
Like, it's definitely true for this weekend. Just to win one in Nashville in the way they want it.
Drew Franklin
Maybe not to lose to a 14 seed, but if you lost to the 6 seed in the second round next.
Ryan Lemond
Weekend, I think me personally, I would be okay with that. If we lose, we win the first game next week, lose the second game. We're Butler's not. Maybe not close to 100%.
Shannon The Dude
I'd take that to show our excitement. My wife just text me. She's on Broadway in their full bars watching a replay of the game.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, we have the replay right here.
Shannon The Dude
They're cheering like it's, you know, right now.
Drew Franklin
Who would have thought Oklahoma would be the game that. That we all remember. Who. What's next? Porter Moser, by the way, was crying during his postgame press conference because you saw a mirror.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Go ahead. Kate is up next. Kate, go ahead.
Caller
Hey there. Long term, long time Wildcat fan, went to uk. But there's a random question I have, if you could settle it for my office with all the hubbub about Rick Patino right now and Big Red Storm and all that. We know they're playing tonight. Does he still have that big red cardinal on his back?
Drew Franklin
I think he does. I think he does. Yeah. I think he still has the Cardinal on his back. I. I don't think Rick's gotten the tattoo removal that Pete Davidson got. I think it is still on there. It's probably a little saggy now, to be honest with you, but it's there.
Caller
Okay, well, thank you. That settles that.
Drew Franklin
Appreciate the guy.
Shannon The Dude
A little update on that. I was watching old SEC tournament videos from the mid-90s, getting excited for this, and in it, he. He said he wouldn't get a tattoo if Kentucky won the 96 title. They're all talking about getting tattoos and stuff. And he said he wouldn't do it.
Matt Jones
He didn't have his midlife crisis. Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
Goes and does it at Louisville. I'm hurt. We need to carve that thing off target.
Drew Franklin
Just say he looked like a Dick Tracy villain last night and he really did. For Tomosu. That's gonna be. That's what I'm gonna remember about his era because he might get fired. And I will remember him with that suit he wore last night.
Ryan Lemond
Honestly, I, you know, I didn't think we. I didn't know his job was in jeopardy. He got him into the NCAA tournament the first year in a well conference area.
Drew Franklin
It may not be now that he's made the turn but earlier like three weeks ago they were suggesting that it was in jeopardy. All right, so let's talk about schedule here. We will be back at 7 Eastern for the pregame show. We will be live at 10 Roof. That's 6 Central. If you're in Nashville, I'd say come early and see us. We're going to be set up there. We decided to do it wasn't the original plan but you know what, so why not if you see us around, please say hey, if you're in Lexington, go watch the games today at KS Bar. And then especially for the Kentucky Beck game. And if you're at KS Bar and you send me. Mario wasn't there so I didn't get to see any. See videos, take a video. If it's, if it's going on, I hope we, you know, who knows, let's.
Ryan Lemond
Do it.
Drew Franklin
Happen right?
Ryan Lemond
Hard to beat a team three times.
Drew Franklin
That's what they say. Hard to beat a three. We've only lost three times once that I can find and that was 2014 to Florida. And by the way, that team went to the championship game. So even if it happens, we can still feel good about it. Thank you guys who stayed up with me last night. Thanks for getting up this morning. We'll see you later. This has been Kentucky sports Radio.
Ryan Lemond
