This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Wednesday, March 26, two days away from the Sweet 16 in the college basketball. We are at the Sweet 16 in Kentucky High school basketball here at Rupp arena on Wings Day. You know it's a dollar wings for all what I hear all the people that are in town for the sweet 16. Not only can you go to KS Bar, you can get dollar wings all day and night. It's crazy. 859-280-2287 is a Clark's Pump and Shop phone line. A Vision Auto glass text machine is 772-774-5254 in this dishon sponsored by the TJ Smith Law Office. You call TJ. He'll make them pay. Ryan Lemon we are here at the sweet 16. This is the what year of this do you think this is?
Drew Franklin
114. I don't know.
Matt Jones
That's just made up. I don't think that's the exact number, but this is a lot. It is the last high school basketball tournament in America with no. No class.
Drew Franklin
That's correct.
Matt Jones
There have never been. There's not another one. It was down to Kentucky and Indiana and then they gave in.
Drew Franklin
They did.
Matt Jones
And this is the last one. And it is still, I would say, the most special high school tournament in all the land.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, because every now and then you get a team like last year, Lyon County, a small school from western Kentucky.
Matt Jones
We had Lyon county play Harlan county last year.
Drew Franklin
That's what makes it special. Was it 15 years ago or so we had. Was it. Shelby Valley, came out of the mountains and won the tournament. It makes it special. And these communities get behind these teams and it fills up with their students. It's awesome. I love it.
Matt Jones
And there's a lot of teams here who've not been here in a long time this year, including one that's coming down right now. Right. Adair County. I saw, you know, the favorite in the tournament, Saint X hasn't played here since 1995. They're not exactly a, you know, lovable bunch of losers at Saint X, at one of the. Maybe the richest school in the state, but they haven't been here since 1995.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, you think of Saint X such a powerhouse in all sports for them. Scott Padgett, that was the last team that was on that came here.
Matt Jones
Well, I think so.
Drew Franklin
That would probably be right.
Matt Jones
I think that was Scott, because I think Scott Padgett was one year older than me. I think the last time Saint X was here, a young whippersnapper named Scott Padgett was here.
Shannon The Dude
I have a feeling they're going to be here for a while because they absolutely dominated the regular season all the way to getting here. They're. They're the favorite. And I. I looked up. It looks like 1918 was the first year. So. Ryan, I don't know what you're. You're getting.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, they probably interrupted seven years off.
Shannon The Dude
There you go.
Matt Jones
They probably interrupted a few times for the war. Probably Covid. Probably there are a couple of them. But, you know, besides that, this thing keeps rolling and we are here, so it's either close to the hundredth anniversary or just after it, don't you think?
Drew Franklin
Well, they call it the greatest show in hoops. I think that was their. It was their. That was their logo promo for a while. I don't think it stuck, but it was.
Matt Jones
It was called the Greatest show and Hoops. That's not even a good name. Yeah, I think it was something because it doesn't rhyme. Yeah, it's. What. Why did they.
Drew Franklin
I don't know. They tried.
Matt Jones
They called it that, Shannon. Or do you think Ryan just made that?
Ryan Lemon
I think Ryan just made it up.
Matt Jones
I think you just made that up. I did not believe. If someone could show me something where they called it the Greatest show on Hoops, I'll believe it, but I don't think I do. Right. But you have it.
Shannon The Dude
What does it say? There's a story 10 years ago on the KHSA website about the greatest show in hoops.
Drew Franklin
They tried, they tried to get it going and it just never caught on.
Matt Jones
Well, I wonder why. 859280, 2287. So we're going to be here today in the second hour of the show. There'll be a game going on. Yes, Bowling Green and Adair County.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Matt Jones
Adair county is who we are for because. Not because I have anything against Bowling Green. But they ate at the bar.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, they came Monday night.
Matt Jones
And if you eat at the bar and you buy food, I'm for you. So the Adair county, what are they?
Drew Franklin
The Indians.
Matt Jones
The Indians. So they haven't, they haven't updated.
Drew Franklin
Later today at KS Bar, we're going to host Henderson.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew Franklin
And Great crossing. We got to know. We support them also.
Matt Jones
So they all play tomorrow, of course, Henderson County. Well, we'll, we'll go through the bracket. I got plenty of bracket analysis.
Drew Franklin
Okay, great.
Matt Jones
I've been spending a lot of time.
Drew Franklin
Have you. Breaking down the high school.
Matt Jones
There's a lot of film study that I've been doing and we will do that over the course of the day. We're going to make our picks. I've got the bracket right in front of me. And we'll, we'll do it.
Drew Franklin
I love this.
Matt Jones
And we, you know, this is like your favorite thing.
Drew Franklin
If, if we weren't on the road with Kentucky, I'd be here every single day.
Matt Jones
Like, can we don't play till Friday?
Drew Franklin
I'd be like, Meemaw, who's come here for what, 50 something years? And you mentioned your friend Duncan Kavanaugh.
Matt Jones
Duncan Kavanaugh and his dad are on the way. They've been here. They've been coming here since as long as I've known them. Corey, Mr. Sayre in Anderson county, he's always here as soon as he gets out of school. So this is a, you know, for. There are a lot of families and Sort of. It's that come year after year.
Shannon The Dude
I really like coming here, but usually the Kentucky's tournament run gets in the way.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
Last year I didn't want to leave the tournament early, but I was able to be here to watch Lyon counties run in that final game. So I like that we're in Indy on Friday and get a chance to see a couple days of this.
Matt Jones
And you just love it because it's like, it's. I've said this before. This is where Ryan Lemon is the most popular. You know, I used to say that there are two places where Ryan Lemon gets the most props. Any place in Lexington where there is a large group of black people getting together and the mayor of black Lexington, Ryan Lemon, it's. Look at Mario's face when you said that. No, I'm telling you from his days in wlex. What is the name of the social group that gets together? They get together at our bar sometimes or at Harper hall sometimes. You know, I'm talking about. It's like the older professional African American.
Drew Franklin
Oh, I know you're talking about.
Matt Jones
Anyway, yeah, if he went there, he. He could be pressed. I mean, people. They. People love Ryan. And then the second thing is here, like at the Sweet sixteen, there's all these, like, drew older reporters from all these small towns. And for them, Ryan Lemon is like, I'm serious. It's like. It's like going to a MAGA rally with Trump. I mean, he's like that. It is. They. They wear hats, make Matt Jones be nice to Ryan again, like, he is the king at this place.
Shannon The Dude
It is impossible to walk in with him and, you know, keep a pace because he stops and shakes every hand. Hasn't seen everyone since the last sweet.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And you know everybody's name. You're like, oh, there's Bob from Barberville. Oh, look at all. How you doing? What's happening down there in Murray? And he starts pointing like, this is you. This is your thing.
Drew Franklin
I did already have a little conversation with Mr. Julian Tackett, sir.
Matt Jones
Oh, he's so scared. Came in so scared of Julian Tackett. Where is Julia Tackett?
Drew Franklin
He's walking around. He's got a suit on. He's looking dapper today.
Matt Jones
And you, you are scared to death of that man. Him and Jim Host come together. It's like the natural disasters, earthquake and typhoon. When they get around you, I'm hoping.
Drew Franklin
They come in and sit together so I get my picture taken.
Matt Jones
The two of them. You need to. But you do love this.
Drew Franklin
I love it.
Matt Jones
And I make fun of you, but I always think it's neat. You know, all these, like, small town radio stations that do their broadcast from here, they're all set up. I always think that's cool too.
Drew Franklin
Well, it's kind of a lost art where, you know, here in Lexington, we don't have. We don't carry high school games. Louisville, they don't carry high school games. But in the small communities, the local radio station still carries their high school.
Matt Jones
Football and high school not carry the high school games. Here, I don't know.
Drew Franklin
Wlap we start. We used to do it.
Matt Jones
Well, why don't you make it happen.
Shannon The Dude
Play by play for.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, like, you could pick a team. You could do all the teams, pick.
Drew Franklin
The game of the week, game of the night.
Matt Jones
Well, I one time, many years ago, like, tried to get a. On Friday nights, a game of the week in the state, like, make it a state. I even offered to, back when I would work way too much that I would go and like, we'd pick one and it would be like a thing, right? And it would be broadcast all over the state and create a network and there was some movement on it and then it just didn't happen. But. But I think it would be cool.
Drew Franklin
I think if like, just using like the four of us right here. Well, even Billy, we go do a couple games a year. Billy's got all the radio experience.
Matt Jones
Like, this is such a good idea. We could even include Billy. Shannon, that was kind of rude to Billy, don't you think?
Ryan Lemon
Put some respect on Billy's name.
Matt Jones
What are you doing? We could even have Billy be part.
Drew Franklin
Of it because he's done play by play, he's done color commentary, he's got some experience behind the mic doing, doing games. So I would love it, actually. And now that Josiah's about to graduate, I've got some more free time. Maybe I'll look into doing it next.
Matt Jones
You should. I actually think. I cannot think of a thing that would be better for you than on Friday nights doing a high school B. Like, I think it would be good for your soul because you're gonna. When your kids leave, you act like this is gonna be nothing.
Drew Franklin
You're gonna be sad, it's gonna be devastating.
Matt Jones
I mean, and he's just going across the street, he's staying in Lexington and it's still gonna be. So that would give you something to do so you don't sit there and just, you know.
Drew Franklin
But I would like to go to the small communities, like, do a game at Middlesboro or do a game in Berea. That's what I'm saying.
Matt Jones
It's game of the week.
Drew Franklin
Game of the week.
Matt Jones
Game of the week.
Shannon The Dude
When Ryan did TV in Evansville, I was young. I'd watch him with my dad and it would be a big deal. When Ron Lemon came to the game, it didn't happen often, but if he was in Madisonville, here, Lance Wilkerson.
Drew Franklin
Oh, yes.
Shannon The Dude
When they showed up to.
Matt Jones
I think, I definitely think you should do it. I would also say from the early looks of the crowd, hey, Bowling Green, you better get here because the Adair county crowd is going too far outweigh the Bowling Green crowds. So far for Bowling Green. I see two women, two purples. Bowling Green is a big city. Where is everybody?
Drew Franklin
Well, for like, Adair county, they never come here. So it's such a big deal. The whole school will come, you know, the whole community will come. Bowling Green, you know, they won the state football title in December.
Matt Jones
So you don't think they're going to show up at all.
Shannon The Dude
They're here frequently.
Matt Jones
There literally are two women and that's it. That are over there. Well, 859-280-2287. I think we've created a new broadcast here. I think so while we're doing it, we will be picking the games. Cats and Valves are two days away. You know, I, I told myself, look, if we get second weekend, you know, then whatever. And then, of course, we end up drawing Tennessee, which makes it a little bit different. Are you starting to get nervous yet, Drew, like you starting to feel the Cats Vols action?
Shannon The Dude
I thought I would be nervous. It's actually going the other way. I'm getting more and more confident. I've been, you know, been writing some previews for the website and just writing about the recent games is a reminder that Kentucky's had Tennessee's number. I wrote last night they've. Tennessee has been the favorite five times in the last three seasons. And not only did Kentucky cover, they won all five games straight up, and they covered the spread by a combined 75 points. So Vegas has been way off on these games and they've made Tennessee the favorite again. And, you know, just thinking back to the last couple seasons, I'm ready to see Kentucky do it again.
Matt Jones
Yeah, me too. I mean, I'm not as confident as you are that we're going to win. I don't know why. I just feel like. I feel like Tennessee's better than us and are you going to beat a team that's better than you three times in a year.
Drew Franklin
Well, I'll tell you what scares me. Sakai Zigler and Chaz Lanier, I don't think they can shoot horribly three games in a row against us. They shot horrible their first two games. It scares me. They're both probably due for a big game against us at the same time.
Matt Jones
That arena, I mean, it's not going to be a shooter's arena. Yeah, like they're playing it in the dome. I saw, we saw a picture of it yesterday. It's going to be that thing where, you know, they don't have great shooting backgrounds. The Final Four is always played in something like that. But the regionals, this is the only one played in a building like that. You think that makes any difference at all?
Shannon The Dude
Devin Booker tweet about it and he said stop playing basketball in football stadiums or something like that in response to the Lucas Oil picture.
Matt Jones
Really? I mean I. He's right. They're not going to stop though. But, but normally you don't have the regionals there. But they do this thing where whoever gets the Final Four next year gets a regional the year before to ready for it.
Drew Franklin
It's tough. I mean and shooters will tell you it is. It's. It's different when you're out there in a big dome like that. That background, it just, it throws you off. So hopefully they can get up enough shots to feel comfortable.
Matt Jones
Who wins if neither team is shooting threes?
Shannon The Dude
Well, who kind of need Kentucky to knock down again?
Matt Jones
Like he just waving it. Who's Leanne Clark?
Drew Franklin
She works for WL Stats. They do all the stats for.
Matt Jones
I mean you say that though like, but yeah, I mean that was a two handed wave to Lee and Clark who. I mean now they're pointing at each other and now the guy next to him is pointing like. It's just like you what you. And at this place. It's the most amazing thing I've ever seen. You know, all of these people, you.
Drew Franklin
Might say it's my Super Bowl.
Matt Jones
Okay, let's play a game. Who's this guy right here in the blue jacket with the pink shirt walking this way? I feel like, you know, he's.
Drew Franklin
I don't know his name. He's in Adair county radio guy.
Matt Jones
You see, just the fact that you know that is unbelievable. You know, the Adair county radio.
Drew Franklin
I'm embarrassed. I can't think of his name.
Matt Jones
I mean, why would you be embarrassed? The fact that, you know the profession is unbelievable.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
I could have gotten County.
Matt Jones
He's well dressed for the Adair county radio.
Drew Franklin
Big deal for Adair County. Absolutely.
Matt Jones
All right, we need to get you Security 859-280-2287. The text machine is 772-7745254. We are here at the Sweet 16. You can watch all the Sweet 16 games on. What's the name of the thing?
Drew Franklin

Matt Jones
Welcome back. It is Kentucky sports radio Adair county and Bowling Green coming we. I already have some corrections.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Matt Jones
This is what happens when we talk about something we do not know, which is most things to be honest.
Drew Franklin
Facts is optional.
Matt Jones
Adair county made the Sweet 16 last year.
Drew Franklin
They did.
Matt Jones
So this has not been a long time since they've been here. They were here last year. Scott Padgett was not on the 1995 team. He had graduated the year before, so. And it was called the greatest show in hoops for 14 years.
Shannon The Dude
We were right about Ryan being a celebrity here though. We didn't get that part right.
Matt Jones
So I mean, if you want, you could just take the first segment and just assume it's all false and then. And then go from there. And now it looks like with the Sweet 16 this year is sponsored by Beef, since the Kentucky Beef Council looks to be, from what I can tell, along with UK Healthcare, the primary sponsors.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, Beef's got some signage in both end zones, so they're definitely a big sponsor this year.
Matt Jones
You know, we had a wrestler in OVW named Beef. You did? Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Whatever happened to the big dude? The big like seven foot guy, Wrestler guy, The monster guy you guys are talking about?
Ryan Lemon
Kadeem's still there.
Matt Jones
Yeah, he's still there.
Drew Franklin
He's still there.
Ryan Lemon
I manage him. Yeah.
Matt Jones
Yes. By the way, Cash Flow, little update. Got promoted to season regular on Tulsa King. He will be in the. Rather than a guest star, he will be in the opening credit. So congrats to Cash Flow.
Shannon The Dude
Definitely. I saw that. That little story written a preview and kind of wrote about how he's got a bigger role. I just think this the beginning of a big Hollywood run for Cash Flow.
Matt Jones
A leading man. He is going to be in a Netflix Hallmark movie with, I don't know, with Jessica Beal and it's going to be. It's going to be wonderful.
Drew Franklin
I don't know if I'll watch that one.
Matt Jones
I think it was beautiful. 859-280-22871, person writes. Matt, wouldn't it be the case that both teams would shoot poorly in a sh. In a. In a dome? Correct. That's what I'm asking, though. We didn't really get. We got sidetracked. Who has a better chance of winning if neither team can hit three?
Drew Franklin
That's a great question.
Shannon The Dude
Tennessee. But I trust you know they're not a good shooting team and if it's a. It's a bad gym for it. I trust Kobe Bray to at least adjust and figure it out a little bit, being such an elite shooter. So I'm still hopeful Kentucky will be able to knock him down. But Tennessee has been truly awful in the Kentucky games.
Matt Jones
What?
Shannon The Dude
They shoot like 16%.
Matt Jones
They've been awful. Even going back to last year, Ziggler had one good game in like three years. I think he said one good game against us.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, that one game in Knoxville's 1 for 11 for threes and I think Lanier was like, what, 3 for 15 or something? They both shot horrible. That's a tough question you ask. So I'm thinking who's got the better, maybe inside game of the way if the game's gonna be one in the paint. Do you give Amari and Car the edge? Maybe a little bit.
Matt Jones
Maybe. Yeah. So a couple little Updates, weed, a Bix, which we talked about yesterday. Weetabix was the number one selling cold cereal in America for a while yesterday on Amazon.
Drew Franklin
Blows my. Well, no, we shouldn't be surprised. Really.
Matt Jones
I'm a little surprised. I mean, like, I, you know, we do crazy stuff, but just buying a British cereal in BUL is one of the crazier things we've ever done, I think. I mean, it goes up there with the unibrow and like. Like, it's up there. I mean, we bought. We were. For a while, America sold more Weetabix than Frosted Flakes and Cheerios. I mean, I just want you to think about that for a minute. Like, we are crazy, but it is kind of awesome.
Shannon The Dude
And I just think it's another example of this fan base being back this season.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Shannon The Dude
Going all the way back to that April here in Rupp arena when Pope had the press conference. Kentucky fans have just been at their best this season. The home games have been awesome. Now we're latching on to something a player eats. I mean, it'd be one thing if someone said they eat McDonald's before every game. We all just start eating McDonald's. But this is a British cereal, a.
Matt Jones
British wheat cereal that pretty much everyone acknowledges is terrible.
Shannon The Dude
Not one person has had anything good to say about. Keep eating it.
Matt Jones
And yet I'm still not seeing. I've still not gotten one. I want one.
Drew Franklin
I thought they'd bring a bunch of the.
Matt Jones
The restaurant yesterday, somebody apparently brought one, but the show was over. So we. We. We don't. We. We don't have that.
Drew Franklin
We going to try it tomorrow then?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I'm going to try it tomorrow.
Shannon The Dude
I think I will say I didn't like Mark Pope on Monday night. His name for the. For this whole phenomenon. He asked for suggestions, but he called it the. Actually wrote it down. The Kentucky Weetabix unity march towards March Madness. Got to work on that.
Matt Jones
Mark Pope has a lot of. Has a lot of wonderful qualities, but. But he's a huge dork. And so, like, when it comes to naming things. What was it again? He said The.
Shannon The Dude
The Kentucky Weetabix unity march towards March Madness. That's what he said he's called.
Matt Jones
He should not be in charge of slogans. You can't have the same word in there twice. The unity march for March Madness.
Shannon The Dude
To his credit, he did ask for help.
Matt Jones
I think he's gonna need a little.
Shannon The Dude
Bit of help in progress.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
It has been wild to see everyone ordering it, though.
Matt Jones
Last night, I Was the guest on Field of 68, which is the nightly college basketball show.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Matt Jones
And I was on there to talk about UK basketball. They left me on there for about 30 minutes. You can watch it on their YouTube page or on Twitter. Field of 68. But it was really good. It was. It was Rob Doster, Jeff Goodman, and Tyler Hansborough was on there as well. And it was quite a conversation. I never thought I would be talking with Tyler Hansborough.
Drew Franklin
Well, you and your new bromance with Jeff Goodman. You guys are tight now.
Matt Jones
Not a bromance. We were friends before Cal. It's just after a 15 year hiatus, we became friendly again.
Drew Franklin
That. That podcast they do every. Every night, recapping the games, has really become a big phenomenon.
Matt Jones
Drew and Mario told me they stayed up and watched. Did you.
Drew Franklin
I didn't know you were on it. But I will. I will watch it probably tonight. I will watch it.
Matt Jones
You will watch it.
Drew Franklin
I think it's very. I think it's very good.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew Franklin
When they do it.
Matt Jones
So you'll watch it. You can report back on how it went.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew Franklin
You were in your. You do it from your living room?
Matt Jones
I guess I did it from my kitchen.
Drew Franklin
Your kitchen?
Matt Jones
I thought it was interesting. Jeff Goodman just sits in front of his stove. Did you notice that?
Shannon The Dude
I was actually trying to look closely. I didn't know if that was like a generic background where you just had a kitchen behind it, but. No.
Matt Jones
Yeah, no. I mean, I was sitting like, I had the camera late on the kitchen counter looking back at my dining room, but he was sitting in front of a stove as, like his background, which I thought was a really odd thing to do.
Shannon The Dude
That and Tyler Hans were always very nice. You. He has like an old school gaming headset, so he was like much louder and, like doing some heavy, heavy breathing in the microphone. But it was. Overall, it was a good interview.
Matt Jones
It was a little bit like Shannon being with Ryan when he just starts panting into the microphone. Yeah, there was a little bit of that with Tyler Han last night. Yeah. What announcements are these people making? Like he's been talking for 10 straight minutes. What could that guy be saying?
Drew Franklin
All the sponsors, but who's like the greatest show in hoops needs his moment.
Matt Jones
Okay. All right, who's up first? Shannon.
Ryan Lemon
We'll start with Roger.
Matt Jones
Roger. Go ahead, Roger. Yes. The only question I had is, anybody check the. The win loss record non sec versus sec in the sweet 16? Well, you mean just the teams that are in the Sweet 16 playing against each other? Yes. What's the Record. There probably haven't been that many games non conference where they played each other. Obviously we beat Duke, so there's one. But I mean, Auburn lost to Duke, Arizona lost to Duke. So I mean, you'd have to, you'd have to look at it for us. If you take non conference, I think the only team we played that's still left is Duke. So I guess we're one. And I'm talking about the whole sweet 16. Yeah, I don't know. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. But I appreciate the call. But. But if you're just talking about non conference games in general, the SEC absolutely dominated on that show last night. They were saying, what does the sec, SEC need to do to be the best conference ever? And they were like, get two teams in the final four. And they have a real legitimate. Because they already have the record for most teams in the tournament. They now have the record for most teams in the sweet 16. You know, you're getting close as it is.
Shannon The Dude
We have a lot in the elite eight. I liked last night on field of 68 is. I think it was your best moment. Tyler Hansbrough kind of tried to dunk on you about Clemson winning and how ACC did well in that game. Then you reminded him that 14 and 2 for the entire 14 and 2 ACC series.
Matt Jones
Okay. Their county already has an awesome roster. The guy in the front looks to be 37. And that kid in the back looks to be 11.
Shannon The Dude
Also got some kind of. I like the, the red, white and blue almost Harlem Globetrotter esque pants there.
Matt Jones
There's no way that kid's in high school. That kid is 11. We'll be right.
Drew Franklin
We'll tell you later.
Matt Jones
TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call TJ. He'll make him pay.
Ryan Lemon
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
I'm gonna give you a really hard assignment, Shannon. You're gonna have to find a song about Adair county or with something with a dare in it. Okay. If you can, I'll be very impressed. But if there's either a song that was created in Adare county, the singer was from Adair County. You just gotta have something. The Dare county something. Columbia, you know, that, that, that since they're here, Bowling Green will be easier for you to find.
Shannon The Dude
If I'm not mistaken, isn't Shannon a former Adair county resident?
Matt Jones
Yeah, he lived in Columbia.
Ryan Lemon
I did. That's right. I'm pulling for him.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Couple things here about. We're at the Sweet 16, just about the setup. But the Adair county has the widest range of ages I've ever seen on a basketball team. There is an 11 year old, there's a 13, there's a. There's a kid who looks like he's 37 and has a mortgage. I mean they literally. I think they took from the entire county. Shannon also have to tell you they just walked away. Ryan stole one of the people's here's hardline Internet. Yes.
Ryan Lemon
It doesn't surprise me.
Matt Jones
And they came over here. They were not happy, but they were like trying to act like it wasn't a big deal. But it was clear it was. Was kind of a big deal.
Ryan Lemon
So is there a show that's not on the air? Because we're on the air.
Matt Jones
Well, they're not going to be on the air until later in the afternoon.
Ryan Lemon
They don't need it then.
Matt Jones
I agree with you. But you could tell they were like. You know how when somebody goes, it's not a big deal. But.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And my view is if you say that clearly it is a big deal to begin with.
Ryan Lemon
Exactly.
Matt Jones
We gotta. It's not a big deal. But about Ryan taking their Internet. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
They're doing the San x game at 1.
Matt Jones
We weren't supposed to. To say who it was. Like we were. This was. I mean, what is it with like. Like clear. Shannon was not clear that I didn't want to say who it was. It was.
Ryan Lemon
It was. But Ryan comes in and he owns that place. Like you've already said, he's mayor. He does what he wants. He takes the Internet.
Matt Jones
Clear that I didn't want to say who it was. And then Ryan just goes, it's the same X radio people.
Drew Franklin
I didn't say that.
Matt Jones
You just.
Drew Franklin
I said they're here to do the same X game. They could be Jeffersontown people.
Matt Jones
Oh, you think, you think people were just supposed to think it was the Jefferson town people?
Drew Franklin
I didn't say that.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Okay. They're here to do the same X game. You just assumed it was the other team. Stop it.
Drew Franklin
It could be the Ashland radio.
Matt Jones
Who is it supposed to be?
Drew Franklin
It could be the Ashland radio station coming to do the same.
Matt Jones
Oh, you think Ashlin comes here to do the same X game? They drive all the way up here to do the same X Game.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Who are they playing the next round?
Matt Jones
You know what the people of Ashland want? They want the Sax J Town game on the radio.
Drew Franklin
There are some stations used to carry every single game.
Matt Jones
Well, there's a Radio network with Cameron Mills over there, that does that it right.
Drew Franklin
Gary Ball. Cameron Mills.
Matt Jones
Kenny knows everyone. Gary Ball, he's been working on consistency.
Shannon The Dude
My subtlety is something we need to get to.
Matt Jones
Subtlety we really have to work on. Thanks to the Adair county band, who will add some background to us. All right, so we're gonna. As we go through the day, we're also gonna make our picks.
Drew Franklin
Okay, I got a whiff.
Matt Jones
We're also gonna make our picks. Let's start. Adair county and Bowling Green. The game we're watching, both teams are short. It looks to me like bowling green is 30 or 28 and 6. Adair County's 30 and 5. Who you got?
Drew Franklin
Let me give you a little 30 seconds on each team.
Matt Jones
15.
Drew Franklin
Bowling green has the best athlete in the state of Kentucky.
Matt Jones
Wow.
Drew Franklin
He was the quarterback on their football team that won the state title. I see him right here in the red shoes. He starts on the basketball team, right? You got the ball.
Matt Jones
Right.
Drew Franklin
Now this guy right here, that's the.
Matt Jones
Best athlete in the state.
Drew Franklin
Deuce Bailey.
Shannon The Dude
He's.
Drew Franklin
He's a superstar.
Matt Jones
And is he a senior?
Drew Franklin
He's a senior.
Matt Jones
Where is he going to school?
Drew Franklin
Missouri State.
Matt Jones
To play what?
Drew Franklin
Football.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew Franklin
Because Nick Petrino is their offensive coordinator.
Matt Jones
Former SO Ace Bailey.
Drew Franklin
Chase. Now you got me messed up. Deuce Bailey, Deuce Bailey, best athlete in the state. But Adair county has the best player in the state that you've never heard of.
Matt Jones
No, wait a minute. So he's the best athlete, but you say a Dare county has the best player? I have. I hadn't heard of him. So.
Drew Franklin
So there.
Matt Jones
If you want to do best people that I haven't heard of, you're going to have a long list. But who's the best player I've never heard of on the Derek County.
Drew Franklin
Connor Lloyd.
Matt Jones
Connor Lloyd, he leads the state in.
Drew Franklin
Assist and he's got over 3,000 points.
Matt Jones
From succession, I believe. Connor Roy, he's got the wife, the younger one.
Drew Franklin
So it's Connor Lloyd.
Matt Jones
Connor Lloyd, he's.
Drew Franklin
He's a superstar you've never heard of. He took a Dare county here to this week. 16 last year got him back over 3,000 points. He just doesn't get the exposure going to play. I don't know if he's committed anywhere. I mean, didn't you tell me somebody.
Matt Jones
Was going to Stony Brook?
Drew Franklin
That's on Callaway County.
Matt Jones
Oh, okay. So this is where Dare County. All right, so after that preview, who you got?
Drew Franklin
Adair county beat him during the regular Season.
Matt Jones
Oh, they played each other.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, they played each other. I'm going Bowling Green today.
Matt Jones
All right. I'm taking Adair county for. For Columbia. That little town square I used to drive through on my way to Campbellsville. I'm going to go ahead and take them. Shannon, who you got?
Ryan Lemon
Of course I got to go with the Dare County. As Drew said, I spent part of my life there. So let's go with Dare County.
Matt Jones
Yeah. And you. And I've been there many times. What about you?
Shannon The Dude
Let's not forget the Burger King. Into the Burger King.
Matt Jones
That was a great Burger King. Burger King in Kentucky is in. Is in Adair county.
Shannon The Dude
Even though they have the Burger King and it's Shannon's former home. I'm going with Deuce Bailey.
Matt Jones
Okay, so. So it's Todd. Mario. He's gone. Mario split.
Shannon The Dude
Can I call out what just happened to me? I don't think you all noticed. A guy gave Ryan finger guns. Gave Ryan a big high five, stuck out his hand for me. When I went to shake his hand, he did the too slow and moved his hand and walked away.
Matt Jones
Telling you what is going on here? Ryan. Ryan owns this place and he always will. Let's. We got one more for the morning session before we go. The phones. Jefferson Town and Saint X. Now, clearly Saint X people may not hear their broadcast because Ryan took away their radio equipment. I'm going to take say next. What about you?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, they're the best team in the state. They've only lost two games and both losses were to out of state teams. They're undefeated in Kentucky. They've got the best freshman in the state, Josh Lindsay. The guy is a stud in the making.
Matt Jones
They got Lindsay.
Drew Franklin
Josh Lindsay. They got three good guards. Jefferson Town, kind of. Yeah. So. So season.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Yeah. Sweet 16.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. That's kind of the sixth region wasn't very strong this year. So I'm going Saint X in a route.
Shannon The Dude
I'm impressed by the show prep over here.
Matt Jones
All right.
Drew Franklin
Saint X by 20.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
What's up, Jody?
Shannon The Dude
Every. Every. Every Monday on KSR, we have the KSR top 25. And I write a little blurb about it in the morning Post. And I feel like every Monday I wrote about how Saint X was number one again and won both games by 30 points. So gotta go with Saint X here.
Matt Jones
All right, Shannon, say next.
Ryan Lemon
Saint X wins and nobody's gonna know about it. And nobody get their newspaper tomorrow morning because Ryan stole their Internet.
Matt Jones
Who's up next?
Ryan Lemon
Debbie.
Matt Jones
Debbie. Go ahead. Debbie.
G
Good morning.
Drew Franklin
Good morning.
G
I Just wanted to get your take on. With the explosion of the transfer portal being what it is, and the small and new major schools having to figure out a way to navigate that, you think that this could foster relationships between the coaches and the larger school and the coaches at the smaller schools that have similar coaching philosophies and make them almost like feeding schools.
Matt Jones
I mean, they're going to be feeder schools. But there was an interesting article that came out this morning, Debbie, on this, which, which basically said under the new house settlement that's going to come in April, presumably most colleges are going to have three to four million dollars in the Power 5 schools to pay their players. But the point was these, that schools that don't have football, like Villanova, could use more of their settlement for basketball because they don't pay for football and might actually be helped. There was an argument that, hey, some of these mid majors might actually be able to offer more money, which was kind of an interesting thing. So I don't. Debbie, I appreciate the call. I don't know that we'll know. But I will say this. I think the hand wringing over this is completely ridiculous. This hand wringing of, oh, the mid majors are going to be this, the mid majors are going to be that. The mid majors have never won anything anyway. When's the last time a mid major won a national championship? Geez, never. I mean, it doesn't happen.
Shannon The Dude
Butler got there, Butler got there.
Matt Jones
But they're in the Big east now, right? Like they're not. It's not like they're just these little children running around. Gonzaga is a power program that's just situated in a different conference. So the handwritten yes. Will players from Drake go to another school? I keep using Drake, yes, but so did Drake's coach, right? Like Drake's coach went to Iowa. Nobody seems to care about that. So why? I just refuse to believe the idea that players shouldn't have the same right as coaches. Now, does it need to be structured? Yes, I think it is going to be structured. Everybody just take a deep breath, give it a month or so. But Ryan, I just don't find it to be this awful thing that people act like.
Drew Franklin
Do you think at some point they'll put a cap on how much each sport is allowed to receive out of this allotment or no, each school will.
Matt Jones
Get to decide what they want to fund with what. And you know, then there are going to be people who give more through the outside people. Here was something interesting I read today the judge meets, I think on April 9th or something to decide whether to approve the settlement. It is expected that she will. But deals that occurred before that aren't counted in.
Drew Franklin
Wow.
Matt Jones
So some people think these players need to sign before April 9th to make sure they're not capped.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So that you're going to see a lot of people sign really quick to make sure they're not capped. Drew. By the settlement.
Shannon The Dude
I didn't consider that. That makes sense to your. To your point about like a Villanova. I've actually seen people saying someone at a bigger school should consider leaving because Villanova will be able to put their entire budget into basketball and can make that better than a school that's got a split.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So all of this, like I just refuse to be a gloom and doomer. The Ultimately, here's what I would say to people. If you don't like the chaos of the portal, just ignore it and wait till the game's start. Because when the game started this year, we all enjoyed it, Right? Yes, everyone. It was the most enjoyable year we've had in a long time. So if you don't like the chaos right now, just tune it out. Come back in June, you'll know the roster and then go from there, right? I enjoy the chaos. The chaos is fun to me. But if you don't like it, just ignore it and then wait till they get on the court.
Shannon The Dude
Some people love NBA free agency and NFL just keeps the season going. I mean, if you want to get into the mud, see all this, it's just more to the sport you can follow.
Matt Jones
That's right. I mean, like I yesterday and we'll talk about this in the second hour. I was sitting there reading about Robert Morris players. I would never do that otherwise. Yeah, but if you don't want to do it, just don't. And we'll have a roster and you can cheer on that one.
Drew Franklin
And the chaos is even crazier for teams that are still playing right now. That's teams are still.
Matt Jones
They should wait and open the portal when the season's up.
Drew Franklin
I agree.
Matt Jones
I do agree that that was. I don't know why they do that. BBN spring is sprung and that means you're getting outside more, whether that's doing yard work or just staying active by biking or running court. Physical therapy can help at court. Our therapists know what it takes to help you heal and get back to the things you enjoy, while also helping you prevent future injuries from happening. Over 70 locations statewide. It's court.com it's kort.com. so you got Deuce Bailey and what's the name of the kid on his. He's number 14, right? Which one's 14?
Drew Franklin
I think he still got his shoot shooting shirt on right now, I think.
Matt Jones
All right, well, good luck, Connor. We'll take a break and be right back. This is ksr.

Matt Jones
All right, Shannon, so you're supposed to think of a song from Adair County. This is it.
Ryan Lemon
Well, he does. You just talked over it, but he mentions a dare.
Matt Jones
Okay, try that again.
Ryan Lemon
Okay.
Matt Jones
There we go. I like it from a dare.
Ryan Lemon
That's Chris Knight and the song is Becky's Bible.
Matt Jones
All right. I like. I saw Chris Knight once in Louisville at the palace, and I don't think he was sober when I saw it, but it was still good and I enjoyed it. And we are here at the Sweet 16. Adair county and Bowling Green are about to play. Another thing about sweet 16. I like Drew, just saw a guy walk on press row in overalls. You don't see that at a lot of other events. Man's just in overalls on press row. I don't know who he covers, but he's doing his thing.
Shannon The Dude
I should have worn my overalls. What do you think the Illinois Piper guy would have said about wearing overalls on Press Piper?
Matt Jones
No. 859-280-2287. All right, so we're gonna put pick two more games. South Oldham and Danville Christian, South Odom 29 and 5. Dan Will Christian 29 and 3. Daniel Christian's first ever trip to the Sweet 16 demo.
Drew Franklin
Christians got to their seven footers, their transfers from Africa and they've got a female African player that got to the Daniel Christian girls team to the state finals two years in a row. The guys are here for the first time. Here's interesting about these two guys. We take an interesting fun.
Matt Jones
What are their names?
Drew Franklin
I don't know.
Matt Jones
Okay. Usually a good part.
Drew Franklin
They're very athletic because they both grew up playing soccer and they want to be soccer players. But they won't let them because they're so big. They're 6, 10, 6, 11. They won't let him, like his family, his people around him. They won't let him play soccer. I guess he's his people.
Matt Jones
I mean, this is not like a high school where you ban dancing. This is not Footloose. If they want to play soccer, they'll let them play soccer.
Drew Franklin
I think it's a Footloose situation.
Matt Jones
So you're saying these two guys are banned from playing soccer? First of all, being tall is not even helpful in soccer.
Drew Franklin
That's why they won't let him play.
Matt Jones
Who is they?
Drew Franklin
Maybe it's maybe his mom and dad. I don't know. Maybe his coaches.
Matt Jones
See, Shannon, he just gets a fact in his head and he never questions it. No, like, they banned him from soccer, but who's they?
Ryan Lemon
I feel like they would let him play.
Drew Franklin
I feel like they'll let no play basketball. Made him play both play basketball.
Matt Jones
Made him basketball. Forced them to play basketball.
Drew Franklin
You're too tall to play soccer. You got to play basketball.
Matt Jones
I'm for these kids who are apparently held against their will at Danville Christian and forced to play basketball.
Drew Franklin
They play South Oldham. That's Billy's alma mater.
Matt Jones
That's true.
Drew Franklin
Okay, yeah, he went to South Oldham.
Matt Jones
Where he was also forced to play basketball.
Shannon The Dude
So bad for these guys.
Matt Jones
I do, too. You've made them into sympathetic figures. I just want to dance, dad. No, shut up and play basketball.
Drew Franklin
What do they want? All they want to do is go out, kick the soccer ball around a little bit.
Matt Jones
By the way, I don't believe this story at all.
Drew Franklin
Oh, it's true.
Matt Jones
I do not believe these dudes are banned from playing soccer. I don't believe this.
Shannon The Dude
I don't know. He did a lot of show prep. I'm believing him.
Matt Jones
So who wins?
Drew Franklin
I'm gonna pick. I'm gonna pick Danville Christian.
Matt Jones
All right. I'm gonna pick Danville Christian and the poor kids who aren't allowed to play soccer.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, it sounds like Danville's been recruiting a little bit. I'm gonna go against Billy's alma mater here.
Matt Jones
All right, Shannon, who you got?
Ryan Lemon
I was gonna pick South Odom until I heard that their players have been held hostage in the gym. So give me whoever the other team is.
Matt Jones
All they want to do is is play soccer, but, no, they're not allowed to.
Drew Franklin
North Odom beat South Oldham twice this year, but in the third meeting in the region finals, South Oldham beat them. Kind of what Kentucky's facing this week.
Matt Jones
Oh, no. That's not good. Mojo. Why are you telling us that? All right, then, the final game tonight. Ashland Blazer against Callaway County. As I said last night, Ashland is closer to Canada than they are to Callaway County. You said give us a quick. Which players are being held hostage in Ashland or Callaway County?
Drew Franklin
Well, Ashland leads the state in wins. They're just like their seventh year in a row. They've been here. They're just.
Matt Jones
Ashland has 23 wins. Callaway has 31 wins, career. Okay.
Drew Franklin
Ashland has the most career wins in any school in Kentucky.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew Franklin
I don't even think it's close. So they're. They're here a lot. They've won many state titles. Callaway County's got two really good players. Jonah Butler, who's committed to Stony Brook.
Matt Jones
Stony Brook.
Drew Franklin
And Eli Finley, who I've seen play since he was in middle school. He's really good also.
Matt Jones
Where's he going?
Drew Franklin
I don't know if. I don't think he's committed yet.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew Franklin
They got two really good players. All right, so you're picking Callaway County.
Matt Jones
I'm picking Ashland. Go Eastern Kentucky.
Shannon The Dude
I got to go with West Kentucky and Callaway, But I cannot get over Ryan name dropping players on each team. I feel like a month ago you asked him who's good in the state. He didn't have an answer.
Matt Jones
No, I mean, he still calls Kobe Bray a Bobby Bray.
Shannon The Dude
You and Lamar.
Matt Jones
Butler and Lamar. But yet he knows the kids on Callaway county are going to Stony Brooklyn.
Shannon The Dude
Also, we don't know any of this is accurate.
Matt Jones
No, he could say anything right now. He just convinced us that two dudes want to play soccer and are instead forced to play basketball. I don't think that's true either. Shannon, who you got?
Ryan Lemon
They got a guy going to Stony Brook. I got to go. Calloway county in this.
Matt Jones
How in the world does Stony Brook, New York, find a player in Callaway County? That's not a pipeline. That's a regular one. You can't even get, like, Callaway County's like, eight years from here. It is so far away.
Drew Franklin
You know, these kids, they play summer ball all over the country. Maybe that's where some got founding.
Matt Jones
All right, who's next? Shannon?
Ryan Lemon
Bluegrass.
Matt Jones
Bluegrass, how are you? Bluegrass.
G
I'm doing fine, Matt. You know, we're excited up here in the mountains this time of year. My man. Let me give you. Let me give you the flowers real quick. I listen to the 64, and if anybody has the Finger on the pulse of the fans of Kentucky. It's you, man. That was a great job.
Matt Jones
Thank you very much.
G
But what we're talking about, when we. I called in, we had the conversation. If we were going to lose somebody, then it's probably all right to lose Jackson because of Brea fit right in. Well, I think, I think it's the mentality we have now. We're getting hands in passing lanes by were switching our switches so much better. I never thought I would call in and be talking about defense, Matt, but I'm liking what I'm saying.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, I appreciate the call. I mean, I think we. We're playing better defense than we played all year, Drew, and hopefully it keeps up. I don't think it's necessarily. I think it's just having now a consistent group of guys and. And really having Lamont Butler backs huge.
Shannon The Dude
Having Butler back is the biggest piece. You just see the difference he makes. But I also have to give Mark Pope credit because the defense flipped a switch after he ripped the locker room to shreds in Oxford when they were not interested in playing any defense at all. The analytics even say Kentucky's been a better defensive team than Tennessee since that Ole Miss game.
Matt Jones
That's amazing.
Shannon The Dude
So when he went in that locker room and tore it apart, I think it woke them up on that side.
Matt Jones
I'm going to say. I think Adair county is just one big family from age 80 to 6, like their home. More ages on this team than any team in the world. So. All right, we're going to take a break and be back. When we come back, it will be Adair county in Bowling Green. National anthem is starting. This is Kentucky sports Radio.
