Dr. Camellia Clark
It's a great day. We'll have our whiskey thief call today. The Avision glass text machine is still my cell phone for one more week. And close to Clark's puppy shop phone line will be open all day. 859-280-2287. Listen, first of all, shout out to Drew Franklin. Let's give Drew Franklin his flowers.
Drew Franklin
Thank you. Thank you.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Drew Palooza. A huge success, Drew. Huge success.
Drew Franklin
We had a blast. Had a lot of fun. Missed you guys. It was a little more work than I'm usually cut out for, but it was a great week thanks to Billy who's walking out of the studio now. He was a big help all week. And all of our guests, tons of fun.
Matt Jones
I will say that Ryan and I listened to like one segment while we were down there looking at the beach and what was it when somebody just committed. I forget who. It was one of the many commits.
Drew Franklin
There's a lot of them.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I know.
Dr. Camellia Clark
It was. It was the guy. It was the person who committed right before the show started.
Drew Franklin
All hell broke loose on that one.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Yeah, yeah, we caught that. But dude, great job. I mean you killed it. You absolutely killed it. You were so good at it. Now it's probably going to happen every year. We'll probably. You'll leave you by yourself one week.
Matt Jones
Why are we here?
Dr. Camellia Clark
We don't need us at all.
Matt Jones
We right now and go back to Florida.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Yeah. We can hand it over again this week.
Drew Franklin
It was. It was fun. I. There was. I had a zoom with some I heart folks you know up at the top of the company for other stuff. It just happened to follow Darren Drew Palooza. And one of them said who approved all these vacations, I was like you. I don't know. I didn't approve it. But, you know, we handled it well. And if y'all want to go have your bro trip again next year, we'll run Drew Palooza back.
Dr. Camellia Clark
I, Shannon, think it needs to be an annual tradition. Drew palooza masters week. That's right. In his wheelhouse. I mean, it was something happening to Drew every day. Every day, you had, like, breaking news. It seemed like the news was fun.
Drew Franklin
And it was helpful, but I had so much I wanted to do, and we couldn't get to it because of the news I got. You know, you can't ignore all the commitments we got and all the roster movements. But, like, on Friday at 11, you know, there's only an hour left in Drew palooza, and Richie Farmer texts me, when are you going to talk about aliens and ghosts? You know, I never really got to it because there's a lot of basketball I couldn't ignore.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Well, there's this week. It could be drew Palooza 2.0 this week.
Drew Franklin
You already trying to go back on vacation? You just got here.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Yes.
Drew Franklin
I must say, you're bringing a lot of energy to the show today. That intro, that was you. You look like a guy that's well rested and excited to be back.
Dr. Camellia Clark
You know, you go on vacation, and that first day back is usually tough. It's like you kind of dreading going back to work, back to the old grind. Man, I couldn't wait to get in here today. I mean, I'm serious. I was so excited to get back with you guys. I mean, Mario was here. Mario was off, too. It was a great, great vacation.
Drew Franklin
We did have to wait to get here today, because when I got to the parking garage, you were blocking traffic in the one lane to get down here. I thought we were going to be late. I didn't know what you were doing up there, but just we got here with a few minutes to go, and you're just parking, holding everybody up in the parking garage downstairs.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Well, when you don't use your key card for over a week, you kind of lose track of it, and I couldn't find it. I knew it was in my car somewhere, but I could not find it.
Drew Franklin
I noticed.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Finally got in.
Drew Franklin
We made it.
Dr. Camellia Clark
We made it so. Well, great job, Drew. Seriously, you did a great job. Drew Palooza was a huge success. The one, I guess holdover, though, people are dying to know if you caught your mole in your backyard.
Drew Franklin
No, actually, I haven't. I've got my trap Set and I even checked it this morning. Still. Still nothing. I might have to try new apparatuses. People have sent me some links. I mentioned there's an old woman with a shotgun in eastern Kentucky I might have to call up. But so far I did get. You know, I don't know if you heard, everything I owned broke on the same day. Air conditioning went out, dishwasher broke, ice machine. Even though I didn't need it, the fireplace wasn't working, and moles in my backyard. So I did have some good repairman shout out to Doug from Appliance Repair, I think is his name.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
So it was a chaotic weekend at my house, but those moles are still running wild out there.
Matt Jones
What kind of trap are you going with? Like, what's the method you're using right now to catch those moles?
Drew Franklin
It's just one. You kind of stomp on it underground and it's supposed to. Supposed to grab them. I'm going to switch to. There's these that make sound. A lot of people recommended those. I was going to get those worms you suggested, but it. I watched a YouTube video. It's a lot of like, dig it up, plant the gummy, come back, dig up the gummy to see if it's gone. I don't. I'm not doing all that. It's maybe the lady with the shotguns the next step. But right now, just a few traps.
Dr. Camellia Clark
I know I bring over my dogs. They'll tear up your yard, but they will get the mole out of there. There's no doubt about. I don't have any moles in my backyard.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, the yard's already torn up. Bring them on over.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Well, we're back at it. Like I said, it was breaking news. It seemed like every day you were doing the show and it was all around the UK basketball roster. So, I mean, that's still. I mean, there's a lot we got to get to today. Spring football, the masters, Shannon going, having a Shannon night down in Florida with me watching the national championship game. Well, we got to start with the basketball roster, and I guess so it's just kind of go the way it's kind of been going on over the weekend. The big news, I guess was Brandon Garrison says he's coming back.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, once. Once they added quaintance. You kind of wondered what would happen there. Even Trilly Donovan, who also had a big week, kind of had hinted before that he might hit the portal. So everybody was on Garrison portal watch. But he did the opposite and stayed home. He put Out a very cool I'm coming back video. I liked it because the first scene in the video is him fighting the entire Louisville bench by himself. So that's the attitude they needed to bring back for next season. And hopefully he makes the big jump. We've all seen the potential now he'll have a bigger role. And you know, we always went we wanted the last coach to retain players and watch them make progress. Here, hopefully is what Brandon Garrison does as he goes into his second season at Kentucky, third season in college.
Dr. Camellia Clark
So I guess nobody is expecting it, but I guess there's still no official word for Otega if he's going to test the waters or if he's going to enter the draft. But nobody expects him to leave, do they?
Drew Franklin
No. I mean, there's Internet rumors that schools have called and offered money. None of it really confirmed. It's a lot of just fan accounts. I haven't heard of anything about him leaving. I would be very surprised. But he, you know, he would be a top one or two portal target if he did go. So I'm sure he's getting calls. But I think Kentucky will keep him, keep him well taken care of here for him to come back. He'll be one of the stars of all of college basketball, not just Kentucky. So I still expect that he'll probably test the NBA waters like we saw players do for many years just to go get that feedback, all of that. But I wouldn't sweat that. He's not projected anywhere in the NBA. He'll probably just go through that process for the experience and he should.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Actually, I think he should go through that process getting ready for next year's draft because he's going to come in and be one of the top players in the SEC next year, I would think definitely.
Drew Franklin
And I'm. I would assume Pope and the crew are telling them that and being like you will be one of the face of the faces of the entire sport if you come back and lead Kentucky next year. And they're counting on him.
Dr. Camellia Clark
So Brandon Garrison Ortega away more than we got to think they're both coming back. I think Otega is coming back. Then you got the three freshmen, Colin Chandler, Trent, Noah, Travis Perry. Any word at all that maybe those guys are maybe still talking to other teams or hearing from other teams and maybe they're might not come back?
Drew Franklin
I don't think so. If they were going to do that, you think they would have entered earlier?
Dr. Camellia Clark
I think so.
Drew Franklin
You know, a lot of spots are already taken. I'd be very Surprised they don't forget they added the big Croatian over the weekend to Croatian. Kentucky now probably has the best front court heading into the season. Next year I'm going to try to say his name.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Okay. I heard Shannon try to say it on the pre show.
Drew Franklin
Oh, let's. I want to hear Shannon's attempt first because I don't know either. Well, we'll both try.
Matt Jones
Yellow Vic. Yellow Vic.
Drew Franklin
That's what I was going to go with on Andrea. Yellow is how I'm saying.
Matt Jones
There we go.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Well, I think you guys just call him the Croatian sensation. I mean that's going to be his nickname the whole time he's here, right?
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Second Croatian in three years with Big Z. So you know we've tapping into that Croatian pipeline. But he played the last year in last two years in Serbia for the pink team that we played in the Bahamas a few years ago. I loved that team. In fact on KSR we dug up my old notes from the Bahamas seven years ago where that night that team, the Mega Bmax I think is their name, they were out all night with us on game nights and I tried to buy one of the pink jerseys off their star player and he's like, I can't. We only brought one jersey on this.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Trip and I gotta wear it tomorrow.
Drew Franklin
We have KSR memories with Andrea's former Serbian team.
Dr. Camellia Clark
So he comes in as a freshman or he's a 21 year old freshman.
Drew Franklin
Is that how I guess how that works?
Dr. Camellia Clark
I don't know.
Drew Franklin
First time in college, so sure he's a freshman. 21 year old freshman.
Dr. Camellia Clark
So with those three guys returning, the Croatian sensation, you got Malachi and Jasper Johnson. Now they're the only incoming freshmen because of Kaden Lewis. Tapped out last week.
Drew Franklin
He did. There's reports that he'll look at Villanova with that. I think he, he thought when he committed I'm going to be the guy his sophomore year. Two years from now Kentucky's going to go get a senior portal guard. He'll be that Lamont Butler role. I'll back him up, learn under Pope and then sophomore year I'm the guy. But then Pope whiffed on Dent a senior and ended up getting a junior in Jalen Lowe. And that kind of changes the whole timeline for everything. So if I were guessing a Kaden Lewis looked around and thought kind of what I was expected to do here might have changed with Low coming.
Dr. Camellia Clark
So the big, let's just go like each position. The big guys, Brandon Garrison, Diabate. Diamante.
Drew Franklin
Diabate Diabate, big mo.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Big guy from Atlanta, Malachi Marino. I mean, you got three trees down there for the four. You got the. Was it. What's Croatian? So is he going to put. The Croatian sensation is going to play the four?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, he and Diabate will play the four. There's debate over who will start, and no one really knows. I mean, they just committed. But Diabate, when he left Alabama, was looking for a starting role. I would assume that's his job right now. I guess that's how he was recruited because that's why he left Alabama. He didn't want to come off the bench. He wanted a bigger role. But yellow itch could push him. So who knows? Either way, you know, Pope doesn't play guys more than, you know, 28, 29 minutes. You rarely see someone playing 30 minutes. So everyone will get a lot of playing time. There's a lot of depth, especially in the front court.
Dr. Camellia Clark
So. But there's still a. Like, the missing link seems to be the shooter. And Lamar Wilkerson was here this weekend. I saw the pictures. They were out at Keeneland. The guy from Sam Houston State, you know, that's a guy that Matt said:2 weeks ago we should keep an eye on. Is he the. Will he be the final missing link to maybe join the team?
Drew Franklin
He's still going to visit Auburn. His plan was to do all his visits, but seeing him in the winter circle yesterday and the smile on his face, I can only imagine the attention he got walking around Keeneland with thousands of Kentucky fans everywhere. He did the. Jeff Ruby's probably got the shoe cake. I'd say that was a good visit. That'd be hard to turn down knowing Kentucky is telling you we need a shooter. You're our shooter, you're the guy. And then you have that whole Sunday after being in Bloomington, Indiana on Saturday. Yeah, you know, nothing's really come out of it yet. Just happened. But I would expect he had a great time yesterday and that should go a long way, even though he's still going to take a visit.
Dr. Camellia Clark
That's the thing. He looks at the roster. That's the missing. They need a shooter. Kentucky needs a. Just a Kobe Braya. He can be that guy. I mean, that spot is waiting there for him to take.
Drew Franklin
And Keeneland, we're so blessed to have Keeneland recruiting process. Yesterday was a beautiful day. I didn't leave the couch because golf was on, but seeing the photos of him, we had a bunch on ksr. That's. That's hard to top. I don't care where you're visiting, going to Keeneland with blue skies and thousands of people yelling your name. And then you end up holding the winning horse. You get a one on one photo, you and El Magnifico or whatever his name was. Auburn, good luck. Indiana. What? I don't even know what you do in Bloomington, but you got to think Keeneland was a big bump in that recruitment.
Dr. Camellia Clark
So if that's, if that's the last spot, then we finally will have our roster going the next year. If that's it, are you happy with it? How do you know? How do you foresee that?
Matt Jones
I am too.
Drew Franklin
Even before there was four commitments in a week, I've kind of been not kind of wrote and on this radio told everybody to calm down. There was a lot of freaking out, like the sky was falling. I think if you add Wilkerson, you look at this roster and say that's a contender. Like you have final four expectations, but that you, you miss. Lewis as a backup point guard, it kind of stunk to lose him, but as a true freshman, we really don't know what kind of impact he was going to have at all. We won't know what we lost probably until two years from now. So backup point guards, a little iffy, but you got Chandler, Perry, lots of guys that can play it.
Dr. Camellia Clark
So Jasper can play a little bit.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Add a shooter and let's go.
Dr. Camellia Clark
So Matt Mario informed us before we started, today is the one year anniversary of the Mark Pope big announcement at Rupp Arena. Man, it's crazy. Then one year, everything that has happened. So when he took this team over one year ago, he had nobody. I mean, Travis Perry was there in the crowd, but he had yet to commit to. Pope had nobody. Now on the second year, looks like he may have a team that we all think could maybe make a run next year.
Drew Franklin
That's part of the reason why everybody need to stop freaking out at this time. Last year we didn't have a team at all. Nobody. It turned out all right. I think we're all pretty pleased with how last year went given the circumstances. So now you've got a head start. Pope's got a year under him. And like I said, I've been looking at the anniversary. I was looking at all the pictures today. Just looking back on that day is still so surreal. I remember parking in this building. You weren't blocking traffic that day like you are today. And you know, it's about a four or five block walk to get to Rupp arena. And I'm still several lights away on foot and I can see the line down the street wrapping around Rupp arena. And I'm thinking, what is happening over there? I expected a decent turnout, but to walk in and Pope get the reception he did is still really unbelievable. Not none of us knowing what was ahead with Pope. We had just talked ourselves into him 48 hours before that. And then that place was filled with people running in standing room only around the rails like as an old school high school state championship game where people are just sneaking their way in. A crazy day. And it's only been a year since.
Dr. Camellia Clark
We had a live radio show following his announcement. That's how crazy it was that day one year ago. All right, we'll take our break. Our phone lines will be open. The Clark's Puppet shop, phone number 859-280-2287. The gang's almost all back. Matt's the only one left. He'll be joining us one week from today. Matt Jones returns to ksr. We'll be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Dr. Camellia Clark
The boys are almost all back in town. Ryan, Drew, Shannon, Matt, still in Amsterdam. I did text Karen this morning. I said, you know, how are things in Amsterdam? She said, if we want an update, this is the update we got. She goes, he said, good, as far as I know. We texted a couple hours ago and he said he was fine. So I'm sure they're, you know, I've been, you know, seeing these pictures he's been posting of get to do some touristy things, kind of see the country, not just locked in a bomb shelter, breaking down how to solve life's crucial issues like they do in these fellowship things, I believe.
Drew Franklin
But they're in a bomb shelter.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Maybe you're in Amsterdam.
Drew Franklin
He has been active on social media. It's not like when he went across the pond last summer where he just had his phone off for five weeks. He has been pretty active online. He even sent me a TikTok last night.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Oh, he did?
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Dr. Camellia Clark
The TikTok that he did himself.
Drew Franklin
No, no, just like this is a funny TikTok. So he's, he's been communicating throughout his his time overseas.
Dr. Camellia Clark
So Matt will be back a week from today. We will be at KS Bar tomorrow, Thursday and Friday in studio today and studio Wednesday. We'll be at KS Bar Tuesday Thursday Friday if you want to come out there and have lunch and hang out with us a little bit. All right. You know, Matt does this sometimes. We've got like four other big topics you guys pick. Which one you want to talk about next? The Masters, spring football, UK baseball, Tennessee quarterback. Which one of those four you want to talk about?
Drew Franklin
I'll let Shannon pick since he's also back and excited to be here today.
Dr. Camellia Clark
All right, Shannon, which one of those four you want to talk about?
Matt Jones
Let's talk Kentucky football. We didn't hit it a whole lot on the pre show. We're going to save it for later in the week. So let's talk about it now.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Well, Drew was there. You were there for the spring football game.
Drew Franklin
Me and a dozen others go say.
Dr. Camellia Clark
The crowd looked like it was a. Yeah, they were all at Keeneland. Yeah, maybe all at Keeneland. I wish I was at Keeneland on Saturday. What was your biggest, if any takeaway did you have?
Drew Franklin
It was very. They called it an abbreviated practice and scrimmage.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Yeah, they didn't even spring game.
Drew Franklin
You know, I've had a lot of people ask like what were my takeaways and standouts as you just did. It's really hard to tell when they're playing two hand touch. But if there was one big takeaway, the running back Dante Dowdell from Nebraska, he, he broke some big runs as best as you can in that thud I guess they call it. It would have been nice to see if they were tackling if he could have broken some tackles. Like on his first carry from scrimmage, it was, he broke one. It was just him in the safety and you know he got tagged and it was down. But it could have been a 65 yard run there. So it was really hard to form an opinion. Like even Zach Calzada had a couple good throws. But in the way they set it up, it just wasn't a lot to be seen. And you know it was. There's photos of the crowd. I'm not joking about dozens. Wasn't a great turnout but it was 10am it was very cold, very limited in what they did. But you got to see some, some guys make plays. Quizzenberry, the freshman had some big catches. David Washington Jr. Who was a receiver freshman last year, he had some big catches even like when you get to the third and fourth string. Stone Saunders led a game winning TD drive to end it. But overall if did it do anything for my optimism or did I really learn anything? Not really. It was good to see them. The Best part was they stayed mostly healthy through the spring. A big reason they didn't do a blue white game is because last year they couldn't. Everybody was so hurt. So they were very cautious in keeping everybody healthy. But overall, I mean, it was a fun day. It's fun to get out there and be at Kroger Field. I don't regret going, but as far as learning much, it's hard to say.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Well, you said something that the guy told me his big takeaway was the receivers because I guess Fred Ferrier didn't dress. He wasn't even out there.
Drew Franklin
So, yeah, the DJ Miller didn't dress. Willie Rodriguez didn't dress.
Dr. Camellia Clark
So. But that allowed some other guys to kind of step up. And he mentioned the Washington kid that you just mentioned also. He said he may he had a good spring game.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, if there's a star, he's one of them. Kendrick Law, who will lucky predicted to be the leading receiver. He had a deep catch from Cutter Bowley, if I'm not mistaken. Cutter's first drive did not look very good. It was pretty quick, but then he let him down the field on a second, honestly. And this won't translate to the fall because this person won't play. But I wasn't sure if I was watching Bo Allen or Josh Allen because when Bo Allen came in and he came in early with the twos, he rushed for like 40 something yards on one drive. Drove him down to the goal line running. So even though we're not going to see that in the fall, it was kind of fun watching Bo Allen show off his wheels in year 19 for the vet.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Well, I guess that's going to be the big question, and it always is when it comes to quarterbacks. Is Calzada the one for sure and Cutter the two for sure, or do you think it's still competition?
Drew Franklin
They did press conferences and Macklin, who we saw a little bit of, he had a catch. But again, I can't stress enough. It's really hard to get a gauge on any of this. But he said he really, he really liked the way Calzada had been throwing all spring. And he's excited about Calzada and we got to see a little bit of that. But, you know, even on Cutter Bowley's big throw to Kendrick Law, if they had been gone full speed, he could have gotten rocked from behind. He threw it at the split second, but the guy kind of let up a little bit. So it was hard to. Hard to gauge what was going on. But just seeing him out there and having the pads on. I know the fans that were there enjoyed it, even though it was limited.
Dr. Camellia Clark
I thought the running back, Patterson or Wilcox may be running one and two, but you're telling me this dude from Nebraska may be the best?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I mean, he's there. They really needed him for short yardage, but like I said, he broke a couple big time runs and I think it could have been some, a really good highlight if you let him kind of run through the safety, see what he could do there. Because he, he, he, he broke a few free, even caught a few passes. I think he'll be, he'll likely be the number one. But the other guys are going to play. It'll be by committee. I don't know, it'll be like Kentucky was spoiled for many years with Benny, Chris Rodriguez, and even Ray Davis. I think this will be more of a group effort.
Dr. Camellia Clark
All right, Shannon, is that, does that satisfy your curiosity for spring football then?
Drew Franklin
No, I'm trying, I'm trying.
Matt Jones
No, but I mean, you know, he said the same thing that everybody else who was there said. You know, they're not going to show you a whole lot right now, but I'm just interested in Zach Calzada guy who's a seven year senior. Do we even call him a senior? Super duper senior at this point. It's a grown man, 24 years old, out there trying to lead the team. I'm just, I'm just really anxious and excited to see him. Hope, I hope that he's the guy. But we'll see. We'll see what happens.
Drew Franklin
You know, Mario's back when, while I'm talking, he's adjusting my shirt so it looks good in photos. What's wrong? Do I have bacon neck? What's happening? Sorry, it's wrinkled. I had a week of, you know, wearing whatever I wanted. Mario wouldn't hear showing cameras. Am I good? Do you need me to turn left or right? Okay.
Dr. Camellia Clark
859-280-2287. At the Clark's Puppet Shop phone number. So let's get a call on this segment. Shannon, who we got?
Matt Jones
Doing good.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Doing good. How are you? Doing good.
F
I'm doing good. Gentlemen, I hope you're doing well.
Dr. Camellia Clark
We're doing good.
F
I've got a great. I've got a, got a concern that I want to run past you guys. There was a, A very popular movie that. Popular. Sorry. Movie that popularized the phrase you never, ever leave your wingman. And I'm sorry, but I feel like you guys just completely Left Drew just hung out to dry. Poor fella up there on his own while you guys were out hanging out, you know, doing all kinds of crazy things we won't be able to be able to hear about on the actual radio show. Drew, I just want you to know I was actually to conference last week. I wasn't able to call in, but I podcast everything. You did absolutely phenomenal, man. And next time, if you want to do it again and we get four recruits and the news coming through the way that we did, I'm all for it. You did a great job. Way to hold down the fort. I hope.
Drew Franklin
Hope.
F
Shannon, Drew, Matt, I don't know how they can pay you back, but maybe a bunch of beers or, you know, some. Some DraftKings tips or something like that. Maybe some, I don't know, figure a couple of meals at KS Bar or whatever. But you did a great job.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Good job, man.
Drew Franklin
Thank you very much. My paycheck and almost buy some beers.
Dr. Camellia Clark
I think you're saying you were doing good.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I think that's what he said.
Drew Franklin
Once I got the knife out of my back from you all leaving me, I did all right.
Dr. Camellia Clark
We'll be right back.
T-Mobile Representative
Taking sports radio, we return T.J. smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. he'll make him pay.
Matt Jones
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Dr. Camellia Clark
All right, welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan, Drew and Shannon, phone lines are open. The Clark's puppet shop phone line, 859-280-2287. We get to a couple calls in a minute, but Drew, I have to admit something to you.
Drew Franklin
What's that?
Dr. Camellia Clark
Listen, this is just. This is just our circle of trust. The three of us here.
Drew Franklin
Okay?
Dr. Camellia Clark
While on vacation, Shannon taught me how to play pickleball.
Matt Jones
That's right.
Dr. Camellia Clark
I have entered the pickleball world.
Drew Franklin
Good. I'm not far behind you. I'm not. Only one person on this show is anti pickleball. In fact, country boys opening a pickleball place. I talked about it on Friday near my house. I'm already getting ready. I don't know what I need, but I will be pickleballing soon.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Well, Shannon whooped me all over the court.
Matt Jones
You aren't bad though. I will say, for somebody's first time playing, you're surprisingly still somewhat athletic.
Drew Franklin
Surprisingly.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Somewhat athletic. I think you got six or seven points on me on one game, which is.
Dr. Camellia Clark
But most people get. But I like it. I mean, it is fun.
Drew Franklin
We're going to need a fourth so we can all we can have a K. Mario, do you want to play or do you have to be a videographer of our pickleball? If three of us are interested. You know, Matt is a hard. No, Billy. Maybe Billy will play.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
So you like it? I still haven't did like. I haven't jumped in yet, but my toes are on the edge, ready to jump in.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Well, I will say this, though. My legs were sore for the next three days.
Matt Jones
Oh, yeah. He cried about a pulled groin for the rest of the week. How you pull a groin playing pickleball?
Dr. Camellia Clark
Well, I didn't stretch first. First of all. And then you ran me all over the court. Second of all. And I haven't moved laterally in probably 15 years.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Dr. Camellia Clark
So all that combined led to some really stiff and sore legs on. On the trip.
Matt Jones
Well, you weren't bad, though. So I. I think that now we've brought you into this world, and now we can expect to see you on weekends out at the old, old man pickleball court.
Dr. Camellia Clark
The old man pickleball courts.
Drew Franklin
After your live tweeting of the Final Four, I wondered if you were able to play pickleball. I've been playing with one eye. One eye open.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Let's talk about that, too.
Matt Jones
About the trust tree. I felt like we were in our trust tree, you know, on the beach, sipping margaritas, watching the national title game. Little do I know sneaky little Ryan's over here live tweeting every. Every word out of my mouth.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Dude, you were so funny, though. I had to share it. You were. You were on one. You were everything somebody said.
Drew Franklin
Hold on. You're saying Shannon was on one? Yes, according to the Internet, it looks like you were on.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Oh, no, I was just relaying what Shannon was saying. First of all, Shannon, we need to say we get to this place and it's in Florida, and Florida is playing for the national championship, and the game wasn't even on the tv. Shannon had to ask the lady, just please can you put that on? The national championship game wasn't even on. We're in Florida. And you know how many people were actually watching that game? The four of us and one lady on the other side of the bar. That was it. Nobody else could. They could not care less.
Drew Franklin
What kind of place was this, Shannon? Somewhere I know. Not Dusty, surely.
Matt Jones
No, this was runaway. Runaway island. But, you know, it's full of tourists who probably aren't Floridians, who don't care. So that was.
Dr. Camellia Clark
We went to Sharkey's first. Couldn't get A table to watch the game at the bar. But not because of the game, because it was karaoke night. That's why.
Drew Franklin
Sharky.
Dr. Camellia Clark
So I went. We went to Runaways, and our TV was about three seconds ahead of the lady, the one other lady who was watching the game. So something would happen. We were like, yeah.
Drew Franklin
Whoa.
Dr. Camellia Clark
And she'd be. She finally said something to us like, look, you guys have to calm down. You're three seconds ahead of us over here.
Drew Franklin
I had one other question about your adventures. You took a picture eating a sandwich and Shannon eating a sandwich. And someone on Twitter noted it looked like you took your photo with a seashell. Was it blurry? Because you were blurry. Had you just pulled your phone out of the ocean? That was another interesting check in on social media for me.
Matt Jones
Ryan's actual, like, the way it looked through his eyes on the beach. I was like, Ryan vision.
Dr. Camellia Clark
See, I have. I have a special beachside filter on my phone, and I was using the beachside filter. Dude, there is. There is nothing. One of the few. One of the greatest things in life is eating a Dagwood sandwich on the beach. That is one of my favorite things to do. And we did it a couple times. And I'm Shannon, shared one with me down there on our bromance.
Matt Jones
I had to tell you, you know, you kept going out and we were spending $100 a. I'm going, well, eating a Dagwood sandwich on the beach is your favorite thing in life. Why aren't you doing it every day? Here's. Here's the Tagwood. Here's the beach. Put the two together, and there you go. It's a perfect marriage.
Dr. Camellia Clark
I did it every day for lunch. I'd have a Dagwood sandwich on the beach. Puts potato chips on it. It was perfect. It was awesome.
Drew Franklin
What was your favorite moment of the whole trip that you can say on radio that you didn't already tweet Josiah.
Matt Jones
Grinding on a 27 year old OR.
Dr. Camellia Clark
That was in Nashville.
Matt Jones
That was your favorite moment of the Kentucky basketball all season.
Dr. Camellia Clark
I think. I think my favorite moment was the day that Shannon and Sarah and Jennifer and I got sat on the beach. We sat there for like, Jennifer. I sat there for like five hours eating Dagwoods. Eating Dagwoods. It was just perfect. It was a perfect beach day. The water was pretty. The beach was pretty. It wasn't real crowded. You know, you just. You might find it hard to believe. You just don't get that in Kentucky where.
Drew Franklin
Where I didn't see much beach Last.
Matt Jones
Week you could go to a lake, I guess. I brought this up on the pre show. Drew, it's crazy to me. Like, Ryan sets out there on the beach, sits on the beach and doesn't have an umbrella, a tent or anything, and has the ability to sit in the direct sunlight for about five to six hours and not burn one bit. I'm out there for 30 minutes and I'm already burning up. I don't know, like, you must have some.
Dr. Camellia Clark
I don't know, like, you got just pasty white skin. I got a little color to my skin.
Matt Jones
I guess that's what it is. I can't figure it out.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Well, you had Shannon and Jennifer. All three of you were burning like crazy. And I'm like, I'm fine. Bring it on.
Drew Franklin
I'm more like Shannon. I'm wearing short for the first time this year. Today, I could blind people with these legs. So I need to get on vacation soon.
Dr. Camellia Clark
859-280-2287. That's our Clark's Puppet shop phone number. So who we got next? Shannon?
Matt Jones
Spencer.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Spencer. Go ahead, Spencer. Hey, guys.
Drew Franklin
I just had a couple of quick things.
Dr. Camellia Clark
First, one man, I don't know if you guys are like me, but every time Pope gets a commitment, I think.
Drew Franklin
We'Re about to win the national championship. I. I don't know.
F
The last week the front court kind.
Drew Franklin
Of worried me, but now I'm back.
F
On the national championship training, just pumped every time he gets one.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Appreciate Spencer. I mean, you can't help be excited because these guys he's bringing in, especially now if he gets Lamar Wilkerson and you got the best shooter in the portal. Add that to what you've already got. Solid point guard. Saw, big man. So you got the Croatian sensation out the fourth. I think you're pretty much set.
Drew Franklin
I'm not going to say they're going to win the national championship, but I expect to be at Lucas Oil Stadium, the worst place in America next year. I think their final four caliber and all the additions last week are great, but I don't think people are saying enough about what second year Mormon Mamba could do. I expect a big jump from Colin Chandler. We're also not saying much about Cam Williams, who was the first Transportal edition. I think he's going to have a big year. So the last three or four they added recently, they're all exciting, but there's a lot of depth across the board, especially once they had one more guard.
Dr. Camellia Clark
And Diamante caused us problems when we played him I don't. You know, I think he had a so, so season, but when he played against Kentucky, he was a handful.
Drew Franklin
I really like that addition. It was obvious to everyone that Pope needed some defense, some rebound. He need to go out and get a dog, you know, and that's exactly what Bate is. He held away to two points in Tuscaloosa. It. And not just with him. With quite an others, it's clear that Pope. Pope knew just as well as anyone watching at home. I have to go out and add some meanness and some guys that can defend, some guys that won't just stare at a loose ball. Because as much as I love last team, there are a lot of moments. Why aren't you grabbing that rebound? Why can't you get a stop? He seemed to make that a priority. They sacrificed a little bit of offense, it looks like, but that'll be a top 20 defense with what they have on paper right now.
Dr. Camellia Clark
That's what's amazing about Pope now for second year in a row, to watch him construct this roster. He gets the right pieces, you know, okay, like, I need to get a defender. Let's go out and get the best defender we can get. I need to get a shooter. We're going to get the best shooter we can get. I mean, he goes out specifically to fill the roles that will work in.
Drew Franklin
His offense and quaint when he gets healthy and he says he's on a good timeline. That's. That's going to be some elite shot blocking. As much as we love Amari and Garrison, how many times last year we like, why are their hands at their waist and not challenging the shot? Quiteins will come in and block a lot of shots.
Dr. Camellia Clark
I didn't realize he was that big. I'd kind of forgotten. He's. He's a big man.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, that's. That's such a big get. Assuming he, you know, his timeline is what he says it is and he's able to go. That's a lottery pick. And I just. It's also cool just to do that. Was committed to Cal. Shows that it's also about the program and not the coach. He's committed to two different areas now. Just shows he really wants to be a part of Kentucky.
Dr. Camellia Clark
859-280-2287. Who we got next, Shannon?
Matt Jones
Shane from Grayson.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Oh, Shane from Grayson. Hear you on the pregame show all the time. How are you, Shane from Grayson.
G
How's it going, fellers?
Dr. Camellia Clark
Good.
G
Hey, I'm doing a little. Little honor. Matt Jones today. Him being over, you know, across the pond there, if I'm not wrong. At one time back in history, over around Holland area and stuff there, they used to have a comment based on tulip bulbs that a tulip bulb was about as much worth as a gold brick at one time. And their whole economy was based on it. And of course it filtered and fell down. So that's a little history for you. Second thing is, I was reading the Wall Street Journal here recently and they put out a list of the top valued college basketball programs in America. And where do you think Kentucky was on the list and who you think was number one?
Dr. Camellia Clark
Kentucky's got to be one or two, right? Kentucky and Duke's gotta be one and two. I'd say can Duke one, Kentucky two.
G
Actually, the list goes North Carolina, Chapel Hill one, Duke two, Indiana three, Ohio State four, and LSU was five. Kentucky was ranked ninth.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Wow.
G
Revenue was 33,800,000. The enterprise value for Kentucky was worth 223 million.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Wow.
G
So if y'all look at them, look at that. That's. That's the wildest list I've ever seen. It's at the Wall Street Journal though.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Okay. All right. Thank you, buddy. I mean, that list is trash. I mean, how can you have Indiana and LSU ahead of Kentucky basketball as far as income based money money coming in, the person must have forgot to go to Nashville and see all the income money that. That brought into that town for four days at the SEC tournament.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I saw that list, too. I was very surprised where Kentucky was. I didn't even really read into how they determine that. But my big takeaway is you saying the Wall Street Journal is trash. You don't agree with it?
Dr. Camellia Clark
Well, I don't read it.
Drew Franklin
Louisville ahead of Kentucky. Louisville was fifth.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Come on, trash. All right, we'll take our break. Come back. Go back to the phone lines. 859-280-2287. That's the Clark's Puppet Shop phone number. We'll be right back. Ryan, Drew and Shannon here on Kentucky Sports Radio.

Ryan, Drew and Shannon. Who's this segment sponsored by Drew Palooza.
Drew Franklin
Boy, first of all, great song by Shannon Taylor here. Yeah, good.
Matt Jones
Florida.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Overrated.
Drew Franklin
You know it's not overrated.
Dr. Camellia Clark
What's that?
Drew Franklin
Core physical therapy.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Tell me about it.
Drew Franklin

Dr. Camellia Clark
T.Com all right, the aviation glass text machine is up and going which is my cell phone this week while Matt is still off. This is from the aviation glass text machine. Next year, Drew deserves tickets to the Masters on Saturday, the day after Drew Palooza. If you know anybody that can make that happen, I'm sure Drew would take you up on that.
Drew Franklin
I'll happily take Masters tickets from anyone out there. I will say having having been before kind of like practice rounds. I know it sounds crazy, a little more access, you can take cameras. But you know, when the rounds go, when it's the weekend, I want to be on the couch where I can follow everything. Like yesterday they were showing on 18 crowds going crazy. Just because the scoreboard would change a number when you're there, you know, you're kind of not able to follow it. All that being said, I'll absolutely go if anybody wants to take me. But it is, it is the best couch day of the year.
Dr. Camellia Clark
I don't really have a make it a point to watch Sunday the Masters usually. I did yesterday. So glad I did, man. That was. This is why sports is awesome. It was a great finish. It was exciting. It was Rory choking, then Rory hitting a great shot. I mean how many. He had like what, four bogeys in his final round and still won the green jacket.
Drew Franklin
Well, everyone thought it was going to be Bryson versus Rory. And Rory doubles the first hole and by the second hole, Bryson is leading after being after Rory had a five stroke lead the day before. So then it's saying, well, Bryson's going to run away with this. And then he completely disappeared. He wasn't even on the leaderboard at the turn. And you think Rory's going to run away with. And he threw in another double. And you have Justin Rose come from the back of the pack. My guy Oberg who had bet on. I told everybody before the day started, don't sleep on Oberg. He was in the mix. And then it comes down to Rory. Unfortunately he missed a game winner like he did at the US Open a few years ago.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Like about a three footers all it was too.
Drew Franklin
I'm not anti Rory. I was. I didn't really. I didn't really care. I wanted Oberg wings that money on it. But I like Rory. But I just wanted some excitement after he missed that one putt to go to the playoff. I felt terrible for him because his legacy would have been one as a choke artist. Yeah, when he's better than that. So when they did get to the playoff, I was 100% behind Rory because he couldn't go out like that. If, if Bryson had beaten him head to head, that's one thing. But if he had gone out missing another short putt, that would have been hard to watch.
Dr. Camellia Clark
And you can see the emotion that came out of him when he fell to his knees on the green. When he got his green jacket and he's talking about his mom and dad and he breaks down crying. I mean, it was. It was. You could tell the pressure was on him and just that relief that, hey, I finally won the Masters. It was very evident.
Drew Franklin
And Rose, who's probably the next, they'll say he can't win the Masters because he's led after the first round five times, hadn't won yet. He seemed very gracious, even though that had to been crushing for him, celebrating. Rory even said some nice things about him. I don't know if many people noticed. Someone tweeted me a video. But as Rory's walking back off the green, going through the crowd, there's a Kentucky fan just going double barrel. Ls down camera. So I don't know who that person is. If you're out there, thank you. That was a nice addition to Master Sunday, but that was one outside of Tiger winning a few years ago, surprisingly. And some of the ones Tigers, early ones, there's not a better Masters weekend than the one we just watched.
Dr. Camellia Clark
We got to find out who that guy was. You know, he's on the shoot as Rory comes walking up giving the double barrel. Ls, now we. Somebody knows who that guy is, obviously. So if you know who he is, please let us know.
Drew Franklin
And if I can recycle my. My joke from Twitter. It was kind of sad knowing that that was the 11th to last Jim Nance performance in Augusta School. Bittersweet knowing that we'll only hear Jim Nance for 10 more years.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Shannon loves listening to Jim Nance.
Matt Jones
I'm just talking about when they were doing the. The ceremony of putting the green jacket on him. Jim Nance was still talking to him as if he were calling like, you know, a. A putt on 18 at the very end of the. Of the match, he's just got that. I don't know, that calmness about him. He's always like. It's like NPR Radio gym Nance. He talks like that all the time. I thought maybe that was just his announcing voice. I guess he. I guess he's always like that.
Drew Franklin
And he's so sappy. I mean, there was drama this year, but he's always Just so dramatic with it.
Dr. Camellia Clark
There was one line he said there towards the end. Rory's been eating snacks and getting hydrated on this final round. Hopefully he'll digest another championship.
Drew Franklin
Rory was eating a lot. He wasn't help. It seems like every time he was walking a fairway he was taking down a, a granola bar or drinking whatever purple drink he had in that yeti looking thing.
Dr. Camellia Clark
So how did Fleener and Poston, how did they do?
Drew Franklin
They made the cut. You know, they were never really in the mix, but we're proud of the guys for making a little money down there. I don't know his exact position, but he finished at 4 over.
Dr. Camellia Clark
They made the cut, made the cut.
Drew Franklin
Made a little money. Yeah, nothing wrong with making the cut at the Masters. Very proud of, very proud of the boys.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Well, there's our Masters recap. I knew you were excited about it. Billy, I'm sure was really excited about it, but it is one of the few times that once I started watching it, the, the excitement sucked me in and I couldn't quit watching it then doing all of our laundry from the Florida trip, I just laid there and watched the. Watch the Masters on Sunday.
Drew Franklin
Such a roller coaster. It's like, well, Rory's got this. Oh no, he doesn't have it. No, now he's got it. No, he doesn't.
Matt Jones
That he hit that hooked around the tree and landed within a few feet of the cup was amazing. It was one of the craziest shots I've ever seen.
Dr. Camellia Clark
And then he's next hole, he put one in the water. Maybe just back and forth that course.
Drew Franklin
Can do to you.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Made me feel good to hear to see these guys hit one in the water. He wants to like, hey, you know, I've been there or in the sand trap like every other hole.
Drew Franklin
Billy and I talked about this on Friday, but are you all aware of the story of the guy peeing in the creek?
Matt Jones
Oh yeah, yeah.
Drew Franklin
Race Creek. It's one of the most famous, maybe the most famous body of water in golf. And a amateur golfer who was in, in the Masters, he was competing and playing, looked around, had to go and he just did it right there, right in the creek. Just absolutely disrespect in August.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Did they kick him out?
Drew Franklin
No, he got to finish but didn't.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Escort him out of there.
Drew Franklin
He even said in his post, post match interview he'd do it again if that situation popped up.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Dude, he can't be allowed back on there.
Drew Franklin
That's what I said.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Get him out of there.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, that and there was a guy that shot a 90.
Dr. Camellia Clark
He's my new favorite golfer.
Drew Franklin
Shot of 71 the next day. So quite a turnaround.
Dr. Camellia Clark
I did pick up a new favorite golfer. Tom Kim. Is it Kim Tom or Tom Kim?
Drew Franklin
That's. That's Abby's favorite golfer. If you all watch Full Swing on Netflix, really, each golfer kind of has an episode. You get to see their personality. Watch the one on Tom Kim season two, I think. And it is impossible not to love that guy.
Dr. Camellia Clark
Just watched him. I liked him yesterday. He looks like he's a pudgy little 12 year old.
Drew Franklin
He acts like one, too. There's a clip at last year's Masters where he parked there. Two years ago he parked in Scotty Scheffler spot. It's for the defending champion. He has no idea. And Scheffler goes up to him. He's like, tom, you're my spot. And he's just giggling like a little kid. He didn't realize it. He's fallen. He's fallen in the mud before where he's just completely drenched in mud. He's just grinning from ear to ear. It's really hard not to like Tom Kim.
Dr. Camellia Clark
All right, we'll get ready to take our break. Our phone lines will be open next hour. 859-280-2287. We got a lot of things we got to talk about yet. Tennessee quarterback situation. White Lotus. I've been dying to talk to you about White Lotus.
Drew Franklin

Painful thoughts 20 more minutes to kill in the pharmacy before my prescription is ready. Maybe I'll grab some deeply discounted out of season hollow Halloween candy. I never had a chocolate pumpkin with raisins before. Those were raisins, right? Next time use Amazon Pharmacy. We deliver. And no, those were not raisins. Amazon Pharmacy Healthcare just got less painful.
Kentucky Sports Radio (KSR) – Episode: Hour 1 | April 14, 2025
Hosted by Matt Jones and the KSR Crew from iHeartPodcasts and Sports Talk 790 (WKRD-AM)
The episode kicks off with the return of the KSR crew, featuring Matt Jones, Ryan Lemon, Drew Franklin, and Shan the Dude. Dr. Camellia Clark welcomes back everyone, mentioning the absence of Matt, who is wrapping up his trip in Amsterdam.
Dr. Camellia Clark [02:42]: "Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Grandpa's grandma's aunts and uncles, welcome back to Kentucky Sports Radio."
Drew Franklin shares insights about "Drew Palooza," a successful week-long event he hosted while away. He expresses gratitude towards his team, especially Billy, for their support during his absence.
Dr. Camellia Clark [03:31]: "Drew Palooza. A huge success, Drew. Huge success."
Drew Franklin [03:36]: "We had a blast. Had a lot of fun. Missed you guys. It was a little more work than I'm usually cut out for, but it was a great week."
The crew also discusses their vacation experiences in Amsterdam, with humorous anecdotes about navigating unfamiliar places and enjoying their time off.
A significant portion of the discussion centers around the Kentucky Wildcats basketball roster. Key highlights include:
Brandon Garrison’s Return: Drew praises Garrison for deciding to stay, emphasizing his potential impact on the team's performance.
Drew Franklin [08:37]: "He put out a very cool 'I'm coming back' video. That's the attitude they needed to bring back for next season."
Otega’s Status: Speculation about Otega testing the NBA draft waters, though expectations lean towards his return to Kentucky.
Drew Franklin [08:47]: "I think Kentucky will keep him, keep him well taken care of here for him to come back."
Incoming Freshmen and Key Additions: Introduction of freshmen like Colin Chandler, Trent Noah, Travis Perry, and the Croatian sensation, Andrea—expected to bolster the team’s frontcourt.
Drew Franklin [10:17]: "He and Diabate will play the four... Everyone will get a lot of playing time. There's a lot of depth, especially in the front court."
Mark Pope's one-year milestone as Kentucky’s head coach is commemorated. The crew reflects on the transformation since his appointment, highlighting the significant roster improvements and the positive trajectory of the team.
Drew Franklin [15:48]: "It's been a year since Mark Pope took over, and in just one year, he's built a team that could make a significant run next season."
A heartfelt segment where the crew acknowledges calls from listeners, particularly praising Drew for holding down the fort during his absence.
Listener [26:13]: "I just want to let Drew know you did absolutely phenomenal, man. Next time, if you want to do it again, we're all for it."
Drew Franklin [27:25]: "Thank you very much. My paycheck will almost buy some beers."
Drew and the crew discuss the recent spring football game, noting limited insights due to the abbreviated format. Highlights include standout performances from running back Dante Dowdell and observations about quarterback Zach Calzada.
Drew Franklin [21:22]: "The running back Dante Dowdell from Nebraska broke some big runs... It was hard to form an opinion."
The group delves into the excitement of the Masters Tournament, focusing on Rory McIlroy's dramatic performance and eventual victory despite a challenging final round.
Drew Franklin [42:35]: "It was one of the best Masters weekends ever. Rory's emotional moment on the green was unforgettable."
Dr. Camellia Clark [44:18]: "You could see the pressure was on him and just that relief that, hey, I finally won the Masters."
A discussion arises about the Wall Street Journal’s ranking of top-valued college basketball programs, with surprising placements for Kentucky.
Shane from Grayson [37:38]: "The list ranks Kentucky ninth, which was shocking."
Dr. Camellia Clark [38:10]: "Wow. That list is trash. How can Indiana and LSU be ahead of Kentucky?"
The crew engages in light-hearted banter, sharing personal stories and playful critiques about each other's vacations, activities like pickleball, and humorous moments from their trips.
Dr. Camellia Clark [28:05]: "I have entered the pickleball world."
Matt Jones [33:12]: "Ryan sets out there on the beach without an umbrella and doesn’t burn. How?"
Before the break, the crew hints at upcoming discussions on the Tennessee quarterback situation, the TV series "White Lotus," and other sports topics, encouraging listeners to call in with their thoughts.
Dr. Camellia Clark [48:55]: "Next hour, Tennessee quarterback situation, White Lotus, and more. Don't go away."
Notable Quotes:
Drew Franklin [08:37]: "He did the opposite and stayed home. He put out a very cool 'I'm coming back' video."
Matt Jones [12:10]: "You got the Croatian sensation? That's going to be his nickname the whole time he's here, right?"
Drew Franklin [34:00]: "If you add Wilkerson, you look at this roster and say that's a contender."
Dr. Camellia Clark [35:53]: "He gets the right pieces, you know, okay, like, I need to get a defender. Let's go out and get the best defender we can get."
