Welcome to hour two of Kentucky sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
All right, welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio Hour number two. Ryan, Drew, Shannon, Mario. Billy has left us for a short minute. Before we get to our draft, I got a couple texts from the aviation glass text machine. Ryan, you look like you'd be a Nickelback fan. What in the heck does that mean?
Drew Franklin
What does that mean?
Matt Jones
What does that mean, Shannon?
Ryan Lemond
I don't know. I don't know what that means.
Matt Jones
I don't know what I mean.
Ryan Lemond
You're the one that read the tweet.
Matt Jones
We're talking about injuries, famous injuries of the past. We forgot a couple good ones. Mike Casey broke his femur in the summer of 1989 on a stacked team, Everybody loaded.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And then in the 80s, Sam Bowie missed like basically two straight years with fractures and broken bones. So those are a couple good ones from, from back in the day. Some injuries.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, those belong near the top of the conversation is the ones that really hurt those teams.
Matt Jones
I had a guy come up and ask me one time. He go, he said, okay, do you know who the all time leading score from Kentucky in UK basketball history? You'll be able to get this one all time leading score in Kentucky basketball history from Kentucky.
Drew Franklin
How far back do I have to go?
Matt Jones
Give me a little 70s.
Drew Franklin
Oh, good. I don't know.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you do. You know him. You talk to him all the time.
Drew Franklin
Jack Givens.
Matt Jones
Jack Givens.
Drew Franklin
Okay. Yeah, I guess that was easier than I thought.
Matt Jones
He was third overall. So he's the all time UK basketball leading scorer from Kentucky. And the guy said, who's number two?
Drew Franklin
Still, still going far back?
Matt Jones
Yes. I guessed Melvin Turpin. That was not right.
Drew Franklin
I don't, I can't even name that many that were from Kentucky.
Matt Jones
This may surprise you. It's Mike Casey.
Drew Franklin
Oh, still, even after the.
Matt Jones
Yes. Mike Casey is the second leading Kentucky basketball scorer from Kentucky. Mike Casey, I think like right after that was like Ralph Beard and then Melvin Turpin maybe may have those backwards, but Mike Casey, a forgotten guy, which kind of gets us into our draft. Here. Here's our draft. We're going to come up with the guys. I call it the no name draft. The guys you forgot played at Kentucky. So we're going to go around, see we can come up with enough to fill at least a starting five.
Drew Franklin
I have some. I have some real questions.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew Franklin
One, it's gonna be hard to do if they're forgotten, but I like this game. I'm gonna have to really dig back in the memory bank. But am I trying to build the best team of guys that have kind and gotten lost in history?
Matt Jones
Yes.
Drew Franklin
Or just the most obscure. You forgot they even were at the end of the business.
Ryan Lemond
I think we should try to build like the worst team.
Matt Jones
Okay. I like that too. The most obscure.
Drew Franklin
I have a few guys that were good that I think people genuinely forgot they played.
Matt Jones
Okay. I agree with you guys. Shannon, you and Drew, let's do the.
Ryan Lemond
We said two different things.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Most of your. I'm going to.
Drew Franklin
I'm going to build one that can beat your all's obscure team with the guys that were still pretty forgo.
Matt Jones
Okay. All right. And the reason this came up the other day during our Tubby Smith draft. You brought up Rikalin Sims. Oh, my gosh. I completely forgot that guy played for Kentucky.
Drew Franklin
He's an example of the direction I'm going to go. I feel like he was pretty good. You just kind of forgot he existed.
Matt Jones
All right, we'll give you first draft then. First draft pick Shannon, you go second. I'll go last.
Drew Franklin
I'm going to go to one that's kind of recent. And he will probably be the best person that's named in this entire exercise. And he's currently in. In the NBA on a team in the playoffs.
Matt Jones
Oh, my.
Drew Franklin
I think people completely forget that Ian Jackson played at the University of Kentucky.
Matt Jones
Ian Jackson.
Drew Franklin
He's my center.
Matt Jones
His first name was Ian.
Drew Franklin
Ian Jackson.
Matt Jones
Yeah, Ian Jackson.
Drew Franklin
I A N Jackson.
Matt Jones
I didn't realize his first name was Ian.
Drew Franklin
What did you think his name was that you've forgotten him so much that.
Matt Jones
When did he play at Kentucky?
Drew Franklin
See, I'm already nailing this exercise. No, wait. I'm saying Ian Jackson's the recruit. I've even messed it up. Isaiah. What is it? Isaiah Jackson. See, I even messed it up there. Ian Jackson's the recruit we're just looking at.
Matt Jones
Remember that?
Drew Franklin
I'm the one that got it so obscure. First pick. He was that bad. I got his first name wrong.
Matt Jones
So I'm serious.
Drew Franklin
I just made a great example of this game. I got his name wrong with the first pick and he is very good.
Matt Jones
So you're going with Isaiah Jackson?
Drew Franklin
Yes, for the Pacers. I had Jackson from the transfer portal. Was fresh on my brain. We're off to a great start. A name wrong.
Matt Jones
All right, dude.
Ryan Lemond
Maybe I didn't understand the assignment because I thought we were supposed to put together the like the no name guys that nobody even remembers played here. But actually did play here. So I was doing some, you know, a little research before we got to the segment, and I've got a bunch of no names that you probably don't even realize played at Kentucky.
Matt Jones
That's perfect.
Drew Franklin
Just do that too.
Matt Jones
Go for it.
Ryan Lemond
Okay.
Drew Franklin
Make sure you get their first and last name right to do a little better than I did.
Matt Jones
Do you have Ian Jackson on your list?
Ryan Lemond
No, but I do have a Henry Thomas from the 199091 team.
Matt Jones
Oh, I know Henry. You know Henry, dude. Oh, yes, He's a good dude. I see him around town here all the time.
Ryan Lemond
Well, he's a no name as far.
Matt Jones
As I'm concerned, but that's perfect. That's a great example. I think Henry was one of the holdovers from Eddie Sutton to Rick Pitino. You know, just a couple of guys that were holdovers. I think Henry was one of those guys and played for Patino in his early years.
Ryan Lemond
So we're not off to a good start because he's going to go to the NBA and I've got a guy that you run into at the save a lot.
Matt Jones
Okay, I'm going to go because I.
Drew Franklin
Didn'T know his name.
Matt Jones
I'm going to go with Joey Hart.
Drew Franklin
Oh, he was on my list.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Dang.
Matt Jones
Joey Hart.
Drew Franklin
Slam dunk champion. Joey Hart won the Big Blue Madness. That's right, man. You took my starting two guard.
Matt Jones
All right, so I get two picks.
Drew Franklin
There you go.
Matt Jones
Right. So drafted. I'll go. Cameron Fletcher.
Drew Franklin
That's my wing. Unbelievable. Same brain here.
Matt Jones
At least I didn't guess Ian Jackson. All right, Shannon, you go next.
Ryan Lemond
All right. Did you know there was a guy that played here back in 2005 and, oh, six named Adam Williams?
Matt Jones
Oh, yeah, yeah. Of course.
Ryan Lemond
I'm going to put him on my team then.
Matt Jones
He's from the Huntington, West Virginia area and he ended up going back to Marshall. His dad was his high school coach in West Virginia. Tubby brought him over.
Ryan Lemond
Back court is set. Henry Thomas and Adam Williams. Look out. Nobody's beating this team.
Matt Jones
All right, Drew, you have.
Drew Franklin
I got Isaiah Jackson's wrong name. That's embarrassing. I'm going to my backup wing since you took Cameron Fletcher.
Matt Jones
All right.
Drew Franklin
This guy was my Twitter profile picture for a month or two. Khalil the Dragon Whitney.
Matt Jones
Oh, that's a good one.
Drew Franklin
I thought he was going to be an all time Caliperi. Great here. And he didn't even finish.
Matt Jones
That's a good one. That's a good one. Didn't he.
Drew Franklin
I left and I Got his name right. So I'm off to do a little better here.
Matt Jones
All right. Do you get another pick?
Drew Franklin
I'm going to go to my. I need another guard since you took Joey Hart. I'm going to go with Alex Legion from the. Billy Gillespie.
Matt Jones
Oh, that's a good one.
Ryan Lemond
Picking guys that are decent.
Drew Franklin
My team's terrible, but people don't really remember them. I mean, I could name a guy at the end of the bench that maybe people didn't even know. That's why I'm going. I'm getting some good players.
Matt Jones
Good players that are also in history. All right, Shannon, your pick.
Ryan Lemond
All right, I need a forward now. Well, okay. What about Nate Knight?
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's exactly who I was going to pick.
Ryan Lemond
No, you weren't.
Matt Jones
Yes, it was. He was number five.
Ryan Lemond
Too bad. I got him.
Matt Jones
Tubby brought him in and he left before Christmas, I think. I think he was only here, like, one semester. That's a great pick. Tall white guy, and people thought he was going to be a good player, and he just didn't do anything. I don't know where he went after that. All right, I'm going to go. Gosh, what's his. Is it. I can't think of his name.
Drew Franklin
It's. All right. Clearly we're getting names wrong in this forgotten player draft.
Matt Jones
Is it Charles Young? We ended up going to play in Michigan.
Drew Franklin
No.
Matt Jones
What was his name?
Drew Franklin
Charles Matthews.
Matt Jones
Charles Matthews.
Drew Franklin
I love that we're getting names wrong, though. It's a little disrespectful, these guys. But that's the point of this game.
Matt Jones
All right, I'll take Charles Matthews. And then, Gosh, since he took Nate night, I was gonna be my big guy. I don't have any big guys at all. Can we pick?
Ryan Lemond
No.
Matt Jones
Oh, I got one.
Ryan Lemond
What?
Matt Jones
Myron Anthony.
Drew Franklin
Good pick.
Matt Jones
Myron Anthony.
Drew Franklin
All right, I have a real question. Did they have to actually appear in a game?
Matt Jones
Not necessarily.
Drew Franklin
Okay, carry on.
Matt Jones
Okay. All right, Shannon, your pick.
Ryan Lemond
All right, I'm gonna go with my. My biggest guy, Jared Carter.
Matt Jones
Oh, that's a good one. I should have thought of that. Jerry.
Drew Franklin
Also on my list, loved a good Olive Garden trip. According to Matt, back in the original.
Matt Jones
KSR days, and according to Shigari, Elaine, nobody works harder and smarter than Jared Carter. Go ahead. You got two picks.
Drew Franklin
Drew, since you said they don't have to actually appear in a game, how can we forget maybe the best practice player to ever play Matt Pilgrim?
Matt Jones
Matt Pilgrim.
Drew Franklin
The Beast Matt Pilgrim. I'm also going to stick in the Billy Gillespie era. With my next pick, I feel like I need another guard. Yeah, Kevin Galloway.
Matt Jones
That's a good one. Kevin Galloway.
Drew Franklin
I've got a squad. I haven't been writing this down. I'm not sure if I positionally it's right or if I've gotten their names right. But I like what I have so far.
Matt Jones
You've got Isaiah Jackson, Khalil Whitney, Alex Legion, Matt Pilgrim and Kevin Galloway.
Drew Franklin
Oh, goodness.
Matt Jones
All right, Shannon, here's your last pick.
Ryan Lemond
Well, I got one, but I don't know if this qualifies or not as a no name guy because he went to the league. Scala Bessier, would that be.
Drew Franklin
I think Scal is a good one because if people look back on the Cal era at players, he's probably going to be pretty far down your list before he pops in your brain.
Matt Jones
I think I'm going to allow it also because there's a lot of times I can't even remember his name. I remember who was the big guy that was the number one pick supposedly and he came here and they ended up being the eighth man. I can see his face and could not remember his name.
Drew Franklin
Are we. How deep are we going on the bench? This is a fun game. Okay, well, I really like trying the testing my brain here.
Matt Jones
All right, we'll keep going then. I'm going to stay in the Tubby era. I got two picks, Ryan Hogan and Michael Bradley. Do I get to pick Michael Bradley?
Drew Franklin
Did he get picked in the actual draft? I know he said his name. No, no, I mean our Tubby Billy draft. He came up. I don't know if anybody got him. No, it's a great pick.
Matt Jones
Okay, I'll pick Michael Bradley.
Ryan Lemond
All right, Shannon, how about Sasha Kalaya Jones?
Matt Jones
Oh, that's a good one. That's really a good one.
Drew Franklin
Great.
Matt Jones
Sasha Kalea Jones. All right, Drew, you got two picks. I've been your two bench players.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I've been pretty recent. I'm going to get a forward who has a ring on his finger. One Oliver Simmons. Big Cheeto.
Matt Jones
That's good.
Drew Franklin
When Oliver Simmons, he was. He and Jeff shepherd were my coaches in Patino's camp. So shout out to Oliver Simmons, you get another pick. Do I need a guard or big?
Matt Jones
Really? There aren't many bigs that are even on anybody's list other than Jared Carter. Well, Isaiah Jackson could be a big.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I didn't pick him. I picked a Ian Jackson. Yeah, I picked a freshman from North Carolina. I need shooting. How about Darnell Dotson?
Matt Jones
We'll Allow it. Darnell Dotson.
Drew Franklin
Did you remember him up from the Caliper era?
Matt Jones
Oh, of course. He was Calprade's first team.
Drew Franklin
But does he. Does he come to your brain when you're thinking back at that time?
Matt Jones
No.
Drew Franklin
Pretty far down the list for me.
Matt Jones
Not on that team.
Drew Franklin
If he. If he fits within the rules or doesn't fit within the rules, let me know and I'll get more obscure. I could go to Steve Masiello as a walk on from the Patino era to be era.
Matt Jones
Janet, your pick.
Ryan Lemond
All right, I got two here. I don't know which ones. You may not allow one of these, but what about BJ Boston? Was he too good?
Matt Jones
Who's your other one?
Drew Franklin
I think we just try to forget that entire team.
Ryan Lemond
Okay. Quad A.
Matt Jones
Green Quad A. I'll allow that one, though.
Ryan Lemond
You'll allow that one?
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Okay.
Matt Jones
Quad A came. Supposed to be the point guard, and then he ended up delegated to coming off the bench when Shea exploded.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, I had another one, too. I just thought, I've had it.
Drew Franklin
Just keep picking Ryan Harrow.
Matt Jones
Oh, man, that's. That's actually.
Drew Franklin
We're starting to play the down years of the Caliperi game.
Matt Jones
Yeah, man, I'm struggling now.
Ryan Lemond
Did anybody say Cameron Fletcher?
Matt Jones
Yeah, yeah, I said him.
Drew Franklin
He was quickly off the board.
Ryan Lemond
Okay.
Drew Franklin
It's a good pick. Still in college basketball, by the way. Still transferring around.
Ryan Lemond
Devin Askew is too askew.
Matt Jones
Could be another one on the list. I don't. I'm trying to think of a big guy. I don't have any big guys.
Drew Franklin
What about Jason Parker? Does he qualify?
Matt Jones
Kind of, because he really never got to play.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Ryan, what about your boy Eloy?
Drew Franklin
Eloise, a good one.
Matt Jones
I'm going. Eloy Vargas.
Ryan Lemond
There you go.
Matt Jones
Onto. I'm taking. He's my big guy. Eloy Vargas. He was my son's favorite player. Came to my house, shot baskets with Michael in the driveway, and then took him to the movie theater. Took him to a movie.
Drew Franklin
I remember that well. You're a big Eloy guy.
Matt Jones
A big Eloy guy. All right, that's. That's seven. That's. That's our rosters, I believe. Are you happy with your roster?
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Especially when I found out I got.
Ryan Lemond
Isaiah Jackson, Nadian Jackson.
Matt Jones
Well, I just could. He was your first pick. The first pick in the draft. The team of Drew Franklin selects Ian Jackson.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I went. He was also in my brain. I went all the way, way up in the Bronx to watch Ian Jackson in high school. So I'M just got a lot of fond Ian Jackson memories that were thrown off my brain there. And Isaiah hasn't played all year for the baseball.
Ryan Lemond
I had a few others on my board that weren't selected by anybody.
Matt Jones
Okay, who are they?
Ryan Lemond
Preston lemaster.
Matt Jones
Oh, Preston's a good one. Yeah.
Ryan Lemond
Is it Adam Chiles?
Matt Jones
Yes, Adam Chiles. That's a tubby guy from Ballard, Louisville. Ballard.
Ryan Lemond
Jason lathram for the 95. 96.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, there you go.
Matt Jones
Oliver Simmons, Jason Latham.
Ryan Lemond
Guys, back to, I think it was Patino's first year. Jody Thompson.
Matt Jones
Completely forgot about him. I would not even come up with him at all.
Drew Franklin
Billy Gillespie had a roster that had about 25 people on it. You could go all day with that one.
Matt Jones
If you could name like all eight Billy Gillespie walk ons. You got a team right there. Just those guys.
Drew Franklin
How about some Kerry Benson or some more Keno Williams Sherbisky. Yeah, yeah. Little Dwight Perry, Dusty Mills.
Matt Jones
Who is the dude that stuck his girlfriend in the in the suitcase and willed her into the lodge? Ty Winyard.
Ryan Lemond
Ty Winyard, the lumberjack.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's right.
Drew Franklin
Throwing out some stories I don't think we've ever told on radio.
Matt Jones
All right, we'll take our break, come back open to the phone lines. 859-280-2287. That's a fun little draft we just had there. This is Ryan, Drew and Shannon. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Matt Jones
Great song. I know you can't hear it on the podcast, but if you ever. As soon as I hear the song now I think of the show Mass singer. I got into the Masked singer during COVID Watched like a bunch of series. I loved it. It was funny.
Drew Franklin
I've always wondered who watches that show.
Matt Jones
Me.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, that's the dumbest show. You what? You actually watch that?
Matt Jones
Yeah, during COVID a couple times. Like one time they had Bret Michaels on. He was like a banana. I.
Drew Franklin
That's a good way to sell it. I can't believe we missed that.
Matt Jones
Nick Carter was under Clint Black.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Matt Jones
Had some good singers on there.
Drew Franklin
So just so I get it straight, they come out and they're in a disguise and they sing and you just guess.
Matt Jones
Yeah, yeah. They. You try to guess who it is by just hearing their voice and they.
Drew Franklin
I assume, sing other people's songs.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Matt Jones
Yeah, yeah.
Drew Franklin
I'll catch the next season.
Matt Jones
Well, I've not seen it in probably five years. It's Covid. But I did during COVID watch several seasons of it.
Drew Franklin
We all did weird stuff in Covid. I watched Tiger King every night.
Matt Jones
Jennifer and I were just talking about that. What we. Those series we watched during COVID Squid games. Tiger King.
Drew Franklin
I don't think there's anyone on earth that watched Tiger King more than me.
Matt Jones
Well, Shannon, you and Shannon loved it.
Ryan Lemond
That's great.
Matt Jones
592-80-2287 got a lot of people on the Avision glass text machine texting me players. That no name player we kind of forgot about. Sheree Thomas, Bernard Cote.
Drew Franklin
I think Charay got drafted in our tubby draft.
Matt Jones
I think he may have.
Drew Franklin
Bernard Cote. That's a great one.
Matt Jones
Corey Sears, Matt Heisenbuttle, Todd Bearup, Jonathan Davis, Rob locke, Mike Scott, Jr. Brady is a good one. Josh Carrier, JP Blevins. Todd Tackett.
Drew Franklin
That one class JP Blevins. Happy birthday, by the way.
Matt Jones
You said it was like five guys got a birthday today.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Let me think if I can do it off top of my head. It's JP Blevins. Shimu Evans, Jared Paulson, Ado Jacob Toppin.
Matt Jones
Very good.
Drew Franklin
Final answer, I'm pretty sure.
Ryan Lemond
Do you have that on your calendar?
Drew Franklin
I wrote it on the website this morning. I was up early blogging, man. I gotta get up early and blog.
Matt Jones
Heard. Heard Tom Leach. He says it at the end of every show. Happy birthday goes out to. He had five birthdays today.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
859-280-2287. We'll go to the phones and. Or get another caller. Who we got? Shannon.
Ryan Lemond
Adrian.
Matt Jones
Adrian. Go ahead. Adrian.
MIDI Health Advertiser
Ryan, your dad and I seem to remember there was a lot of cheating going on in Cross country practice.
Matt Jones
This is my mom.
Ryan Lemond
This is your mom.
Matt Jones
This is my real mom.
Drew Franklin
Is this a first?
Matt Jones
Yes. Happy birthday, Mom. Happy birthday last week and happy Mother's Day coming up this weekend. Thank you, son.
F
Did you ever hide behind the bushes?
Drew Franklin
When?
F
Cross country.
Matt Jones
Never. I never did that.
Ryan Lemond
What did you do, Ryan?
Matt Jones
No, they're. They're making up stories now. They. They weren't there.
Ryan Lemond
You tried to get out of running and hid behind bushes?
Matt Jones
Of course I did. Of course I did. Who wants to go out and run five miles for fun? Nobody. So, yeah, our coach would make us run, and I would just hide behind some bushes. And when they'd make the loop and come back, I just joined the crowd then.
Ryan Lemond
So when you got caught, did they make you run even more?
Matt Jones
I don't think I ever got caught.
Ryan Lemond
Okay.
Matt Jones
I was going to. You know, my. My. My dad was my coach in high school, and we had. In the fall, he'd have the basketball players out running on the track. Well, I played tennis in the fall. I didn't know. He could see from the track to the tennis court. And the girls cross country team ran by one time, and I mooned them. My dad is up on the track and saw every second of it. So that. That got me some extra running, didn't it, dad?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, sure did.
Ryan Lemond
You deserved every bit of it.
Matt Jones
No. All right, I'll see you guys tomorrow night. You betcha. Bye, guys. All right, bye.
Ryan Lemond
Good to hear from you.
Matt Jones
That's my mom and your dad.
Drew Franklin
So you didn't know that was coming?
Matt Jones
No, I had no idea it was coming. Yeah, she's. You know, I get hammered. Her birthday is one weekend, and the next weekend's Mother's Day. You know, I got a hammered back to back weekend. So I'm gonna go after our trip and I want. Tomorrow I'm gonna go up to Jasper and see mom and dad. Go out to eat with them and hang out with them for a little bit.
Drew Franklin
You get hammered to celebrate your mom's birthday?
Matt Jones
I might do you get two different.
Drew Franklin
Gifts or just kind of combine it into one and.
Matt Jones
Well, it's kind of the pickle you're in. What do you do?
Drew Franklin
I know it's a tough spot. I get it.
Ryan Lemond
One for each. You got to celebrate her birthday, and then you celebrate Mother's Day.
Matt Jones
It's like Shannon's birthday is four days before Christmas.
Ryan Lemond
That's right.
Matt Jones
You got birthday and then Christmas back to back.
Ryan Lemond
And while you see her, if you don't mind, if you could get some of those deviled eggs. Yeah, that would be great.
Matt Jones
They are the best.
Drew Franklin
I thought of a draft also do and so I'll read them off to save time. But how about the all Billy Gillespie recruiting team? Guys like Hunter McClintock forgot that name. The 8th grader Michael Avery, G.J. villarino ended up at LSU I think was it Dakota? Is that how you pronounce it?
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Casey, Ross Miller, he maybe he ended.
Matt Jones
Up in the LSU when those guys ended up at lsu.
Drew Franklin
Dominique Ferguson was a big game when he got Indianapolis. Billy cast a wide net for his his two Kentucky basketball rosters. I think he would add 50 players if it was within the rules.
Matt Jones
Okay, who's the dud? Went to grc, went to Clark County High School. He ended up playing I think at Western.
Drew Franklin
Oh, I'm not going to get that one. Big guy or.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it's kind of a big guy. I somebody will text us Let us know 859-280-2287 to the text machine. We'll get that. Phone lines are open. You want to call and get on board. I do want a couple other notes. I want to talk about UK baseball team. Big weekend, big back to back big series coming up. Right now they're 10 and 14 in the SEC. They host Oklahoma in a three game set this weekend and then they finish the season at Vanderbilt. So I checked with Worldwide Todd Harris. Todd said they really need to go three and three in these six games to secure a spot in the NCAA tournament. If not they're going to have to win a couple games, at least two games he feels like in the SEC baseball tournament. So it's doable. You win the series against Oklahoma, win two of three, then you may try to steal one at Vanderbilt you can finish three, three. He feels like that should get them into the NCAA tournament because right now I think he said they're in the first four out.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, Baseball America put out a bracketology yesterday. I want to say Kentucky was the second or third team in the last four out category. So just a few spots out of the field but Oklahoma is ranked 14th in the country. You're hosting them this weekend in your final home SEC series. If you win this, I mean I'm not an expert on the other teams and who's. Who's fighting for a spot in the field but I feel like if you can win the series against number 14 Oklahoma and finish strong at Vandy, hopefully that will give them the nudge. The nudge to get in. They also have a game against Northern Kentucky tucked in next Tuesday that I don't know will impact the standing that much, but big opportunity at home this weekend.
Matt Jones
Oh, they're. They're limping in right now. I think they've lost four in a row, so they're kind of limping into this. But they need to go three and three or the next two series. They have a top 35 RPI, so I should be good to get in the NCAA tournament if they will only get to 12 SEC wins, so maybe if they. But he feels like you win 3 sec the. These last six games, I should get him in for sure.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Disappointing trip to Starkville after you got hot there for a while. Began with losing a western earlier in the week, and then you got swept down there. Getting swept in Starkville really hurt him.
Matt Jones
We got time for a quick call. Shan, who we got?
Ryan Lemond
Let's go to Po.
Matt Jones
Po. Go ahead, Po.
G
Hey, guys. Hope you're doing well.
Matt Jones
You too.
G
I'm excited about next year's team basketball especially. And as long as we get in jail like we did last year, you know, as camaraderie on the team, I think we can do really, really super things. And I wanted to say too, that I got a player that's really forgotten about, but I don't know if you consider him a player, but he's probably the most talented player we've not mentioned yet.
Matt Jones
Okay, real quick.
G
We forgot about Sean Camp.
Matt Jones
Sean Camp. Oh, yeah, that is a good one.
Drew Franklin
What about Vinnie Zolo? Is that your.
Matt Jones
That's the GRC guy. All right, we'll take our break. Come back. Ryan, Drew and Shannon. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney.
Drew Franklin
Call tj. He'll make him pay.
Ryan Lemond
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
So the people in the podcast can't hear this, but this is shinedown, right? Shannon?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. You were saying that. Was it your son that was working that event?
Matt Jones
Yeah, they had a big concert. I believe it was Friday, the derby eve. They had a big concert at Rupp Arena. Said it was packed, but he. They didn't get done breaking down the stage till like five in the morning, I think. But they're. I guess they're still running. They're still really popular.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, yeah, they're one of the biggest rock bands going right now. But your son gets to go around and enjoy all these, like, concerts and wrestling and that's probably a lot of fun, though. You. I mean, probably not fun setting it up and taking it down, but you get to enjoy the show. Too, I guess. Right.
Matt Jones
Well, not necessarily. Like they set it up, then they have to leave.
Ryan Lemond
Oh, they have to. They make.
Matt Jones
Yeah, yeah. Then they come back. Sometimes they catch the end of the concert, but they're backstage, you know, they're not out on the crowd area. But yeah, they have to leave and then come back. I think he had to go back at 10:30 that night to start breaking it down. So it's tough. Who's this segment Sponsored by Shannon DraftKings.
Ryan Lemond

Matt Jones
Right now because like the Celtics had the knicks down by 20 at home and I left the KSR bowling league last night and Celtics were up by 12. Get home and Knicks are winning the game. And the night before the pacers were down 20 at Cleveland. Came back, went so back to back nights, Pacers came from down 20 on the opponents home floor and one Knicks were down 20 last night at Boston and they came back and Boston, Boston.
Drew Franklin
These games have been crazy. I turned off the Knicks game last night thinking well it's not going to happen two nights in a row before that. Yet Nuggets win with not a buzzer beater but kind of a last second three by Aaron Gordon. It wasn't a close game last night but Shea, my goodness, did you see Shea set a record for his plus minus was 51.
Matt Jones
That's insane.
Drew Franklin
They scored 100. What was 40, 147, whatever was almost 150 points winning game two. He was nuts. It's been a very entertaining few days for the NBA.
Matt Jones
It really has been. They need that, they need this, you know, pick up some momentum going into the Champions series. So I love it. This is the time of year I like watching the NBA so you can bet everything you want on on DraftKings.
Drew Franklin
I got to brag on myself on DraftKings. You know how they had The King of the horse thing for Derby. I didn't realize it but I logged into my account. I won $380 in the King where you split the million. Yeah, I was one of the people that split the million. Really cash that out yesterday. Didn't even know in the moment but my wife of all people said place a bet on sovereignty. And then I threw a bet on there for because it was the first one I put in. It goes on to win. So I ended up making part of that million. Didn't even know it till yesterday.
Matt Jones
Well, good for you. Happy birthday to Abby. Her birthday. Thanks. This weekend, right?
Drew Franklin
Thank you. DK Horse.
Matt Jones
Well, you guys were all fun and sun at the BET gala and playing golf. I decided I'd do a high school baseball game this weekend.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, tell me about that. I saw a selfie of you in a young up and coming announcer. What was that all about?
Matt Jones
Connor Wilhite. He covers Scott county sports. So he has Connor Sports Talk. I've been on his podcast and he does all the Scott county baseball games. So he invited me to come join him in the broadcast booth for the Scott County Henry Clay game the other night. And I loved it. I loved everything about it. I used to do a lot of play by play in color for baseball. So Shannon, I want to play this clip. This is Connor doing play by play of the Scott County Henry Clay baseball game the other night. First pitch of a second at bat hit into the field.
Ryan Lemond
It's way back and gone.
Matt Jones
A two run home run from Justin Stevens.
Drew Franklin
Yaka.
Matt Jones
How about that? Gave me a chance to do a little yaka right there.
Ryan Lemond
Brought that out of the retirement, those mics just a little bit. You were so hot you were clipping the mics.
Matt Jones
But yeah, I know it was the exciting point of the game. Kid hit a two run home run so we had to get excited for it.
Drew Franklin
So we can't make fun of their mics because I don't know if you can tell. Ryan, can you look at me and see? Shannon, during the break my headphones broke. I didn't do anything that should have done any damage to these headphones. I gently took them off and now my left earpiece is just dangling in front of gm.
Matt Jones
Billy, you break another head.
Drew Franklin
You saw this, Billy. I just gently took them off my head and they were just broken.
Ryan Lemond
Billy.
H
Good thing you got that DK Horse money.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, Billy. Deducted from his paycheck.
Drew Franklin
Exactly that My by the cord.
H
The all timer was. Matt was gone for two and a half weeks and the Day he came back, Very day, it snapped. The headphones broke before the show even started.
Drew Franklin
I have another question of what you're doing. While we were gone, Ryan, I saw a picture of, like, a high school gym or some kind of school gym and just a video of a very large version of you on the wall. Was that Photoshopped or what was that?
Matt Jones
That was Potter Gray elementary school.
Drew Franklin
Oh, it was elementary school. Okay. What. What was going on? Why are you on their gym wall?
Matt Jones
They ordered a cameo to give a pep talk to the kids because it's testing week this week in Kentucky. So they wanted me to give them a. A pep talk to get him ready for testing week. It starts. Started on Monday. So, yeah, that's what that was.
Drew Franklin
Do you hit him with a. Take a knee.
Matt Jones
Oh, of course I did. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Play the hits.
Matt Jones
You want to play this one? It's only. It's like, over. It's over a minute long.
H
Did you take your shirt off?
Matt Jones
No, I didn't take my shirt off.
Ryan Lemond
That's good.
Matt Jones
But I think I may have scared the kids a little bit.
Drew Franklin
But I just saw a picture, and it was. They had blown you up to be the size of the wall. What was going on?
Matt Jones
Well, you know, you got to get. You got to get your point across, and when you're doing, you know, you're yelling at your cell phone.
H
So we got to get these kids excited. What are we going to do? Cameo from Ryan that'll get him motivated.
Matt Jones
To do well on their testing. All right. 859-280-2287. I do want another. Another note. I want to bring out the kale crowdis. Would you listen to the show? You know, he's. I'm very close to him. He has decided to transfer from Hawaii to Wisconsin. So he went from. He was at UK for a couple years, went to Hawaii, played well, scored a couple touchdowns out there. But he's going from the sunshine and the beaches of Hawaii to the snow and the wintry north at Madison, Wisconsin. What do you think of that move?
Drew Franklin
What a journey. You go from the farm out there in Hamburg playing for Douglas.
Matt Jones
Yep.
Drew Franklin
Didn't just move across the street, play for uk then across the globe to Hawaii. And where do you want to end up? Madison, Wisconsin.
Matt Jones
Madison, Wisconsin. I've not talked to him in a long time. The last time I talked to him, he was very happy in Hawaii. He was in. Staying in, like, a penthouse.
Drew Franklin
I'd hope so. Who's not going to like Hawaii?
Matt Jones
Amen. But, you know, on this day of the transfer portal and nil. He may, may have gotten a good deal to end up in Madison, Wisconsin. So now with the Kale at Madden Wisconsin and Dane at Nebraska, I don't know if they play each other this year, but my two Douglas guys are now in the Big Ten.
Drew Franklin
That's crazy. Yeah, Dekel had a pretty good year. I think he had like touchdowns in three or four straight games earned him a spot at another big school. You know, we don't think too fondly of Wisconsin, but they have a great football environment and good program. So good for him. I'll be watching him from a distance.
Matt Jones
I guess it's a, you know, a big jump for me go from Hawaii to the Big Ten. I'm sure he's got a roster spot or they wouldn't have, you know, gone after him like that. I just want to give a shout out to him.
Drew Franklin
That have been a tough sale, you know, Hey, I know you're on the beach and it's Hawaii, but let me, let me show you.
Matt Jones
Madison, Wisconsin. Yeah.
H
Coconuts to cheese curds.
Drew Franklin
Doesn't look like he will play Dane next year. I googled their schedule.
Matt Jones
They don't. They're not playing.
Drew Franklin
Does not look like that's okay.
Matt Jones
Shannon, want to ask you about this little thing. I saw this. You know we stay in a lot of Airbnbs when we're on the road.
Ryan Lemond
Yep.
Matt Jones
Now people are like making these themed Airbnb. Like I saw there's an Airbnb for you could stay in like the X Men Airbnb. There's a Prince, Purple Rain Airbnb. They've got like 80s Airbnbs. Would you be more inclined to stay in a themed Airbnb or just stay in the one that we stay in all the time with Matt when we're on the road somewhere?
Ryan Lemond
Well, I mean, we're just taking the price out of this because I'm sure these themed Airbnbs are double what a normal Airbnb would be just because of the theme. But if we're saying don't worry about the money itself, I would love to stay in one. I've seen a few of these Airbnbs. They turn into like haunted houses where there's all like these little jump scare animatronics that they have built in. I would love to go stay at something like that, like a quote unquote haunted house. Wouldn't you like to do something like that?
Matt Jones
See, I think it would be cool. What do you think?
Drew Franklin
I'll take a hotel. You all can have your Airbnbs. I'll go to a hotel where we.
Matt Jones
Stay in a lot of Airbnbs.
Drew Franklin
I'm team hotel guy. Nothing against Airbnbs. I've done them, but I would rather be in a hotel.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Yeah.
H
Well, I'm fine with whatever. I think Shannon has been in a room that was filled with dolls before. Wasn't that an Airbnb?
Matt Jones
That was a hotel.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, hotel.
Matt Jones
What was that? Oklahoma City.
Ryan Lemond
I don't know where it was, but it was like a boutique. And you go in and like, every room had a different theme. There was a doll room. There was a. A needle.
Matt Jones
It was a quilt. Mine had quilts all over the place.
Ryan Lemond
There was a needle room. It was really strange. I look up the name of that place, but I don't like.
Matt Jones
Say you have an Airbnb here in Lexington. Could you make it like a UK basketball, football museum type place? I think people would probably want to stay in something like that.
Drew Franklin
There's some theme ones around town.
Matt Jones
What are they around town? I don't know them.
Drew Franklin
I've seen one. This has been a while. They've probably changed over. But when Game of Thrones was still big, I remember seeing something on Instagram somebody had a Game of Thrones theme when, I mean, a lot of them are very played up on the bourbon. That's not really a big theme, but I've stayed in a nice one in Lexington that was, I mean, just. It was just bourbon all in your face. So more Kentucky theme. But no, they are very popular. I've had some very bad Airbnb experiences, not just with you guys. So that's why I prefer a hotel where if something's going wrong, I can walk downstairs and they can just take care of it.
Matt Jones
I think the article I wrote, I read said that there's, like, prints. There's an Airbnb in Minneapolis that's, like, dedicated to Prince prints, posters, photos and stuff. So I can kind of see that being a thing. And, you know, Shannon drive the price charge you more to stay in something like that. So.
Drew Franklin
So maybe a KSR themed Airbnb we could open. You could have the Ryan Lemon room.
Ryan Lemond
It would be hard to sleep with that nose whistle going all night.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, just play snoring noises while you're in there.
Matt Jones
All right, folks, with basketball season over, now's the perfect time to tackle that remodel you've been putting off. My friends at estate renovations do kitchens, baths, basements, and even deck sand. What is deck sand? Oh, it's decks. And.
Drew Franklin
There'S no space there.
Matt Jones
There's no space there. I'll read that sentence again. My friends at Estate Renovations do kitchens, baths, basements and even dec and they do it right. They often guarantee pricing, which means no surprise cost and no nickel and diming you along the way. You get daily updates. A true turnkey. There's no space there. I think it's supposed to be a true turnkey experience and even have an app so you can track your project every step of the way. Estate renovations, local, professional and BBN approved. Check them out at A stations. Estaterinos.com that's Estate Reno. Estate Reno's R E N O s like renovations. If you mention KSR before June 1st, you'll get half off your design agreement. Estaterenos.com all right. We'll take our final break. Come back our final segment.

Ryan Lemond
All right, let's go to Kenny.
Matt Jones
Kenny, go ahead. Kenny.
F
Hello, Ryan.
Matt Jones
Hello, Kenny.
F
Hey. Hey. I. I'm a friend. I met you a couple of times. I coached Dante T. Back in eighth grade down here.
Matt Jones
Oh, boy.
F
But anyway, I was gonna ask you. I was gonna ask you a question. When you go see him now, you're gonna go.
Matt Jones
What did he say?
Drew Franklin
I didn't catch that. Yeah, one more time out of my headphones.
F
Are you going to. You're going to Jasper, Indiana, right?
Matt Jones
I am going to Jasper, Indiana this weekend.
F
Okay. I was going to ask you, are you going to take her to the. I think you pronounce it like the Central Bank.
Matt Jones
Schnitzelbach.
F
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Oh, I've been there a hundred times. It's great. Great German food.
F
That's a great place to eat. Anyway.
Matt Jones
See ya. All right, Appreciate it. He's using JT's phone there. 859-280-2287. Rest in peace, JT. I miss that guy. I miss these calls. When things were kind of down, he'd always call.
Drew Franklin
Hey, always positive.
Matt Jones
Cal's got this. Don't you worry. Who's our next caller? Shannon?
Ryan Lemond
Joe.
Matt Jones
Joe. Go ahead, Joe.
I
Hey, guys. You guys were talking about ACLs. Looking for a little relationship advice.
Matt Jones
Oh, we're good.
I
When. When me and the better half are watching a game and a player tears the acl, you can usually tell immediately the way they grab the knee. And five, six trainers come out, lift them off. And my girlfriend, she doesn't laugh, she doesn't enjoy when this happens, but she's a little calloused. She had a college gymnast teammate tear both ACLs on a tumbling pass. And the girl got up, put her arms over her head like to say, I'm done with this. And she just walked herself off into the locker room. And I've heard this story 10 times over the years. And the last couple times, I've thought about saying, you know, if you're. If your teammate was so tough, shouldn't she have walked to the bench and supported the team the rest of the meet and not to the locker room? Do you think that'd be a good or bad idea?
Matt Jones
Joe? I appreciate it. I'll go first. If I just rip both my ACLs, I'm. Peace out. Yeah. I'm like, listen, you guys, do your thing. I'm in immense pain. I'm going to cry in front everybody. I'm going to the locker room to get me to the hospital.
Drew Franklin
I'm going to the locker room with a jam finger and saying, you all got it from here. I'll be cheering you out from the back. So two ACLs. You won't see me for a long time. I'll text you from the hospital.
H
Yeah, I'll be carried off. I'm not walking off either with two torn ACLs. I mean, that's. That's toughness right there, is it not?
Ryan Lemond
So I don't believe that she walked off. I don't even think that's true. There's. You think you can walk off with two torn ACLs?
Matt Jones
No, you'd be crawling. That's crazy. I mean, little gymnasts are tough. Little boogers, though, you know, I wouldn't say. If there's somebody. If there's an athlete who could do it, it'd be her. They are, man. They practice like 20 hours a day and they're bouncing around and jumping around. Harden their body.
Drew Franklin
What if you tore your ACL while you were working with deck sand?
Matt Jones
Well, I'd probably lay down.
Drew Franklin
That's one of my favorite things you've ever done. I laughed through the whole break. Well, the part of it's because the space is still dangling. Yeah.
Matt Jones
Mario, you got to get a picture of him with his headphones.
Drew Franklin
Kind of shows where we are as a show right now. You saying deck sand and my broken headphones here.
Matt Jones
Before we go, I did want to plug one more thing. Sportshistoryfoundation.org it's a website and they do for like 30. For 30 documentaries on Kentucky sports stories. Like they did one on the Lafayette 1979 basketball team. They've done one of the Nicholasville on Nicholas county girls basketball team. They've done the undefeated Madison Central 1980 baseball team. Well, they got a new one out on the Laurel County Cardinals winning the 1982 state championship on a half court. Last second shot. If you don't know this story, it's a great story. The dude names Paul Andrews that hits the shot, he heaves it up from half court at the buzzer and they won the state championship on a buzzer beater. Is there any greater things you can think of than with your buddies you grew up with playing at RUP Arena? You throw one in from half court at the buzzer to win the state title. And they've got a documentary about. It's kind of a 30 for 30 on this. I just watched it last night and loved it.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I want to see that. I'm familiar with the shot me. And that has to be the biggest.
Matt Jones
Shot in the biggest shot in Kentucky high school history.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. So I would like to know more about it. I've seen the clip several times. It's. It's floated around online in the past. But I'd like to learn more because it, it couldn't get better as a high school kid walking off like that.
Matt Jones
Shannon, have you heard of the Paul Andrew shot? Half court shot?
Ryan Lemond
Never heard of it till just now.
Matt Jones
Billy.
H
No, but didn't Dominique Hawkins have a game winner in this? Was it the one of the state games? Maybe not. The state champion may have been the state champion.
Matt Jones
Well, it was his teammate, I think Kenja Bosley that actually hit the shot. That was dere. Dominique Hawkins team.
H
Okay.
Matt Jones
But I think Kenja Bosley is the guy that hit the shot. But this is a half court heave. You know, before three point line and everything against Laurel county was playing North Harden. North Harden had like three Division 1 basketball players and they wanted. So I, I recommend Check it out. It's sports history foundation.org so go check it out. I think you got to register. They got all kind of 30 for 30 documentaries if you like that kind of thing. If you. This is. They do just Kentucky stories. So it's really, really cool.
Drew Franklin
Remember Anthony Hickey in Christian County?
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
I don't think he's the one that hit the shot. He made the assist. Yeah, they hit. They wanted a game.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So. So check that out. All right. Again tomorrow we are in Owensboro at the Kentucky Skin Cancer Center. That's right. New Hartford on New Hartford Road. The pre show and ksr. So Shannon, who's our last sponsor?
Ryan Lemond

KSR Podcast Episode Summary
Episode Title: KSR - Hour 2
Release Date: May 8, 2025
Host: Matt Jones and the KSR Crew
Duration: Approximately 45 minutes
Location: Presented by iHeartPodcasts and Sports Talk 790 (WKRD-AM)
The second hour of the KSR podcast kicks off with host Matt Jones welcoming listeners back to the show. The crew, including Ryan Lemond, Drew Franklin, Shannon, and Mario, are introduced, setting the stage for a lively discussion on Kentucky (UK) sports topics.
Matt Jones initiates the discussion by reminiscing about some of the most impactful injuries in UK sports history. He highlights notable cases such as Mike Casey breaking his femur in 1989 and Sam Bowie's prolonged absence due to fractures in the 1980s.
Drew Franklin concurs, emphasizing the significant impact these injuries had on their respective teams.
Matt Jones introduces an engaging segment titled the "No Name Draft," where the crew aims to spotlight forgotten or obscure University of Kentucky athletes by drafting them into an imagined team.
Participants: Ryan, Drew, Shannon, and Matt take turns selecting lesser-known players, leading to humorous moments as they stumble over names and positions.
Drew Franklin: “I have some real questions... Or just the most obscure. You forgot they even were at the end of the business.” (05:00)
Matt Jones: “I’m going to go with Isaiah Jackson.” (06:27) (Despite initially misnaming him as Ian Jackson)
