Welcome to hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Drew Franklin
Welcome back Techie Sports Radio. This figured out which one to subscribe to is going to be driving people crazy. Like I, you know. Okay, so it's not the one with me with the visor. That's the old one. I haven't done anything on there in like three years. Yeah, it's the picture of me. If you know what I look like, it's that one. And it's not the picture of the other people that are, that may have the same name, but they're not, they're, they're not me. Okay.
Billy Rutledge
This is going swimmingly. It's gonna, it's gonna be great.
Drew Franklin
It was, that's why. Well, you know, I can't wait to.
Shannon The Dude
Listen to the other podcast.
Drew Franklin
Don't listen to the other podcast. You don't need any life advice. People who give you life advice are all full of it. That's my other thing. I don't want to hear like self help. Well, that's, that's a whole other rant I don't need to go on. 859-280-2287 we apparently did play Duke and Rup.
Shannon The Dude
Really?
Drew Franklin
In 1979 in the NIT. We played Duke in Rup. Which I, I did not know that.
Shannon The Dude
Did not know that either.
Drew Franklin
I, I had no idea if we.
Shannon The Dude
Ever played it in Cameron.
Drew Franklin
Not that I know of. But I'm not sure.
Billy Rutledge
I didn't know we had played him in rup.
Drew Franklin
I did not know. Real quick. Matt Jones Show.
Shannon The Dude
Matt Jones show.
Drew Franklin
If you use podcast, then you get.
Shannon The Dude
The old, the old one. Matt Jones show probably should have done a better job.
Drew Franklin
But with me, this. Look, look, look for, look for my picture. All right, real quick. I don't know if you saw this report yesterday, but Ross Dellinger, who has been the best. If you do not follow him on Twitter or X or whatever you should. He has been the best. At sort of breaking down the nil. The. The lawsuit. That's the new rule. Like, if you want to be like, how do I understand what's going to happen in the future of college sports? He's probably the best one. He said that the Power 4 conferences are going to force the members of their conferences to sign an agreement that they will follow all rules that are made about by the NCAA or they will be kicked out of the conference. Now you may say to yourself, why are they doing that? That looks good. My goodness, what is that? Prime rib sandwich.
Billy Rutledge
Love a good prime rib sandwich.
Drew Franklin
Bacon jam. Okay, we'll take that. Taste those during the break here. That's all right. Now you got me distracted. But they will follow all rules or they can be kicked out of the conference. They remember may. Remember last week I talked about this. Tennessee state legislature passed a law that said the schools in Tennessee do not have to follow any NCAA rules, which I have no idea why. I know their legislature's crazy, but that I didn't understand that. And you may have remember me saying that's a good way to have it all turn into chaos. Well, the NCAA, I guess has seen it. And the power four conferences are going to make all of their members sign a document that says if you do not abide by this, we can kick you out of the conference.
Shannon The Dude
Wow.
Drew Franklin
So Tennessee and Vandy are on the clock now. They're going to make all their members sign it. It is expected. All are going to sign it. But the schools in Tennessee are not sure. But. And so. So this is how I read it. I read that as Tennessee, the university got their legislature to pass this. Right. Because why else would they have passed it unless the school told them to do it, Wouldn't you think? And the. And the sec, probably upset, has now flipped it and said, okay, that's your move. Here's our counter move.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Do you think there's a world where the SEC accident. Because remember I said if the SEC kicks them out, they'll just go to the acc. But now it looks like they thought about that and now the ACC is going to make their people sign it too. Is there a world where Tennessee would take an action that would keep all of the Power 4 conferences from happening?
Billy Rutledge
Andy Staples has an update that sounds like Tennessee is going to double down. He's going to talk about on a show today. So I don't know the exact details, but it looks like we're about to get the NCAA vs. State of Tennessee in this and a standoff and it includes all Power 5 conferences and some other conferences, too, so they wouldn't have anywhere to go. They really get in a standoff.
Drew Franklin
You know what? I hope the NCAA takes Tennessee and tells them to go shove it. I mean it. Like I. I am generally, if you. If you listen to the show, you know, a couple things. I'm pro the players getting paid. I'm pro treating this as a business. I'm pro the money for people, you know, the money's there. I'm pro at getting split. But I also am a believer in rules. You can't have anarchy in this world if you have anarchy. One thing that's clear about human nature is if you have no rules, we will devolve to the lowest form of humanity. I mean, just look at the looting thing, which we'll talk about later. So Tennessee wants to have a system of no rules. None. Well, you can't. You can't do that, because if you do that, it'll just become absolute chaos. Even in capitalism, you always hear me say we're just capitalism. But even in capitalism, we have rules, right? We have minimum wage and we have, like, workplace standards. I mean, we have rules. Tennessee is suing, asking there to be no rules, just for us to become cavemen. Which that may be how they want to live in Tennessee with all their, you know, nastiness, but, like, that's not the way to live in humanity. And I hope the conference is. Ryan, tell Tennessee and kick them out. You know, it's kind of like the live tour. That's all great in theory, but now go on your own and see how you do Tennessee. You know what, Father? Okay. Good luck. See, I see how you do. I'm for. I'm for telling them that Tennessee needs.
Shannon The Dude
The SEC more than the SEC needs Tennessee.
Drew Franklin
You're exactly right.
Shannon The Dude
You know, so if they want to go play in Conference USA and try to bully everybody, everybody.
Drew Franklin
Bye.
Shannon The Dude
Go see how things are in the conference.
Drew Franklin
Good luck.
Shannon The Dude
Good luck.
Drew Franklin
Let's see how exciting it is when you play, you know, Sam Houston State every game. Good luck, Tennessee.
Shannon The Dude
Good luck.
Drew Franklin
Let's see if you make the playoffs when you're playing Sam Houston State. Every day you go fill that hundred thousand seat stadium playing up against Texas Grande, Rio Valley. Good luck.
Billy Rutledge
If this were any other state, I'd be like, come on, just participate. Let's move on with this. But since it's Tennessee, I hope they fight it. And it just gets nasty. So it's the sport versus the Vols, and I guess it includes Memphis and Van. All The Tennessee schools, I mean Vols are the ones we're focused on.
Drew Franklin
But I hope, see Memphis, Vandy and you know, Shawnee, you have a conference. Let's see how many people watch it. You know, a lot of people want to see that great Shawnee LMU matchup. Go for it. Let's see how it goes.
Shannon The Dude
So what advantage would a place like Middle Tennessee have then? Maybe in this new rule there's no advantage.
Drew Franklin
Do you think anyone would care about a league full of only Tennessee schools unless you were in Tennessee? No, of course not. No one would care. So this is the University of Tennessee saying we want to do our own thing and we want there to be no rules governing us. But you know, let me just. I'll use the analogy that I've used talking about and you know, you can yell at me if you want, but this is the analogy I use about some of the stuff when I talk about Trump. People all look at things just about Trump. You're not thinking about who the next president's going to be. If you establish there can be no rules, then what's the next guy going to do? And then what's the next guy going to do? Similarly, if Tennessee wants there to be no rules, then what are these other schools going to do? And next thing you know, you are in chaos and you cannot have sports without some rules. Now we can argue what the rules should be and we can argue whether or not they should be more, more. More pro player, more pro school, more pro whatever, but you can't have no rules. And that's what, what Tennessee's asking for is no rules.
Shannon The Dude
I like that they, they're sitting there thinking we're so big and bad. Well, the ACC will take us. Well, now they're. ACC can't take you.
Drew Franklin
That's why it's very smart for the SEC to get all the. And they should because you don't want the state of South Carolina now passing this rule. And then ACC's got to do the same thing with Clemson, right?
Billy Rutledge
Yeah. So far it seems only be Tennessee even considering this. And I just hope it goes the distance and we have like a mess around find out situation and they really get left out of something. That seems like an extreme ending.
Drew Franklin
It's.
Billy Rutledge
But I hope that's what we get.
Drew Franklin
But I hope it happens, you know. Now if Tennessee sued the ncaa, what would happen? I don't know. I'd have to think about it because it's very, it would be very complicated. But you know, they got lawyers at the ncaa They've probably looked into it. Bring it on.
Shannon The Dude
Bring it on.
Drew Franklin
Something. I would be fascinated to know why the legislature passed that law. The University of Tennessee clearly wanted it or they don't pass it. And it would be interesting, Ryan, to see what those discussions were.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. Tennessee football is a big driving force for probably, like, what Kentucky basketball is in Kentucky, you know, carries a lot of power. Tennessee football does. So I'm sure if they wanted it to try to do that, the legislature is going to probably pass it for him.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Who's up next? Shannon?
Matt Jones
Let's go to Jacob.
Drew Franklin
Jacob, go ahead. Jacob. Hi, good morning. I hope you all are having a great day. Great morning so far. I said a quick question.
Billy Rutledge
I was curious if you ever thought.
Drew Franklin
About actually kind of writing a book about the history of ksr, kind of how everything developed and kind of the stories and things, you know, kind of all the stories. Wouldn't be a memoir. I. My view is, if you're going to write a memoir, it's time for you to be dead soon after. Like, there's no reason to write a memoir like, like halfway through. Like, I've seen some people who have, like, three biographies, so I'm not. I. I think I would enjoy writing a memoir, but I'm gonna let every. I'm gonna try to finish everything first. The. The Mitch. The Mitch, Please book was like, almost like a personal journal thing. I. I think before I do the whole. This was what my career was. I probably want to finish it. So you don't have to do, like. Like, Kim Kardashian already has one biography, and I hear she's writing two. What is she. I can't even imagine reading one of them, and now she has two. So I think let's probably wait a while, but go ahead.
Shannon The Dude
I was thinking, like, something along the.
Billy Rutledge
Lines of, like, what James Andrew Miller.
Drew Franklin
Did, like, ESPN or caa, Kind of.
Billy Rutledge
Like oral history, I think.
Drew Franklin
I don't know. I just think there'd be a lot.
Shannon The Dude
Of interesting stories and especially for, like.
Drew Franklin
For me personally, as a new listener to the show, I think a lot of people will be interested in giving the history of how everything developed and kind of. Well, I appreciate it. Thank you. Yeah, maybe. Maybe one day we'll. We'll do something. Maybe do that in, like, a podcast form. Ryan, do you.
Shannon The Dude
The Matt Splaining Podcast.
Drew Franklin
See, it sounds worse coming from you. I don't know why. Who's next?
Matt Jones
Let's go to Mike.
Drew Franklin
Mike 859-280-2287. Go ahead. Yeah, I had two comments, one going back through, and you were talking about the big recruits and hype and that we didn't get. The first recruiting thing that I can remember is Ralph Sampson not coming to Kentucky. Yeah. But he was a number one. He was a number one player in America. Yeah. So, I mean. And he ended up being pretty good. Yeah. And then the other thing I wanted to say is your show is the best. When you don't stick to sports, that's when you're the most interesting. So keep that up. Yeah. Well, thank you, Matt. Thank you. Although the counter to that would be, you know, the least when you do talk about sports, which I grant you is probably true.
Shannon The Dude
This first segment was typical of this show. We spent the whole first segment talking about a potential big basketball recruit. And our first caller was about Gagonian's honeymoon in Destin. You know that. That's this show in a nutshell right.
Drew Franklin
There, where I think you've told me this, but I don't remember. Where were your two honeymoons?
Shannon The Dude
Orlando. First one. Second was inky.
Drew Franklin
You went on to Orlando on your honeymoon?
Shannon The Dude
Yep.
Billy Rutledge
After we just did that Orlando bit. You didn't want to chime in with that?
Shannon The Dude
Loved it. I love.
Drew Franklin
Did you have kids at the time?
Shannon The Dude
No kids.
Drew Franklin
So you went to Orlando as adults? Yep. Without children.
Shannon The Dude
And loved every second of it. It was fantastic.
Drew Franklin
Where did you go?
Shannon The Dude
Stayed at the Dolphin Resort. It's. Which is an Epcot area.
Drew Franklin
Did you go to Disney World?
Shannon The Dude
Oh, every day. Yeah. It was awesome.
Billy Rutledge
How do we not know this?
Drew Franklin
Wait a minute. You went on your honeymoon to Disney World?
Shannon The Dude
The first one? Yeah.
Drew Franklin
That's awful.
Shannon The Dude
It was fantastic.
Drew Franklin
That's weird.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. I mean, like, you know, adults, it. Disney World without children. Isn't that strange?
Shannon The Dude
No, it's very romantic.
Drew Franklin
What is romantic about it?
Shannon The Dude
You know, you get to see the fireworks show at night, you know, from your hotel room.
Matt Jones
Matt hates fireworks, too.
Drew Franklin
I don't. I hate fireworks.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, it's great. It was glorious. This was in 1991.
Drew Franklin
Wow.
Billy Rutledge
So you just hit all the chain restaurants?
Drew Franklin
So you would get up and you would go, like, ride the teacups.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
And that was your wedding.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. And then maybe the next.
Drew Franklin
Is that what. Let me ask. Is that what she wanted or is that what you want it? Both.
Shannon The Dude
I think it was fair to say both.
Drew Franklin
You?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I enjoyed every second of it.
Drew Franklin
Wow. Okay.
Matt Jones
Can't believe that didn't work out.
Billy Rutledge
What was the second one?
Shannon The Dude
Cancun.
Billy Rutledge
Okay.
Drew Franklin
Sorry. You're the only person that could get away with.
Matt Jones
Ryan knows I love him.
Drew Franklin
He.
Matt Jones
He can't get mad at me.
Drew Franklin
No, Orlando, I can't. I can't. That's the worst.
Shannon The Dude
I've been to Disney World probably a dozen times.
Drew Franklin
I'm not surprised by that. School's almost out. The deals are just getting started at don Franklin. Over 6,000 new and certified pre owned vehicles. Shannon The Dude
Well, I think we probably don't need to talk about the third time. That didn't go over too well with.
Drew Franklin
Wondered about that. Yeah, she didn't enjoy that conversation like you.
Shannon The Dude
Keep our her name out of our filthy mouth.
Drew Franklin
Okay. Well, there you go. Well, we'll take a break and be right back. Mr. Orlando here.

The hatchback.
Matt Jones
That took you cross country and back and the minivan that tackles the weekly carpool for the cars you couldn't live without.
Drew Franklin
Trust amica Auto insurance Amathy is our best policy. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio got some Disney adults on the text machine upset. One person writes, matt, you go to baseball games and read a book. How dare you say something about Disney World. Much more reasonable to go to a baseball game and read a book than be an adult and go to Disney World without your children. Just it's just unreasonable.
Shannon The Dude
It's magical.
Drew Franklin
I'm sure it is magical for children. You're an adult and it's your honeymoon. It's supposed to be romantic.
Shannon The Dude
It was, it was very romantic.
Billy Rutledge
The song playing right now is this romantic. This set the mood.
Matt Jones
This plays on a loop when you go there.
Shannon The Dude
It's a small world and you have to ride the ride because there's one clown that's crying. They're all have happy face but there's one clown in that ride that's that's crying.
Drew Franklin
That's the people on their honeymoon. So we just tried our new prime rib sandwich which was excellent and you guys had the. What is it?
Billy Rutledge
Bacon jam burger. We had it way back in the day. It was one of my favorite things and it took a step away from the menu for a while.
Drew Franklin
Now it's back back. So yeah. So we're here at the KS Bar and Grill. You we've got new menu items. Come try them. The catfish. Now we have the prime rib sandwich which I really liked. And how was the bacon jam burger?
Shannon The Dude
Outstanding. It's very very good.
Drew Franklin
So thank you to Monique for for for coming up with those and they are debuting we now rail Bird is coming. You need to get your tickets for the parking Listen, if you're going to the Railbird, there's going to be nowhere in this city to park. I'm just warning you folks, they are not allowing you to park at Kroger Field. Now. There's going to be nowhere for you to park. This is right across the street. So. So you need to get your thing. We will be sold out, but I want to sell it to KSR people before the general masses with their hippiness come over here. And so go ahead and get in there and get it. Who else playing? You got Jelly Roll? I think you got Lainey Wilson.
Billy Rutledge
I believe so.
Drew Franklin
Red Clay Strays, who I like. I'm going to go see them.
Billy Rutledge
As a big Railbird fan, the best part of parking here is because you could, at least in the years past, I think you still can. You can leave and go back in. It was so hot out, I just came, ate lunch and had a beer here.
Drew Franklin
If you park here and you come to the restaurants, we could. You can come get some cool here. Like when somebody that you don't like is playing, like, I don't know who stinks on the. On the card.
Matt Jones
Mojo Thunder is at the very bottom.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I don't really like. I'm not a huge fan of Jelly Roll's music, but he was so nice to me. I can't say he stinks because he was, like, a really, really nice guy. So I don't want to say him. But who else is. There's a band like a Luke Bryan on there or something.
Matt Jones
Rattlesnake Milk.
Drew Franklin
See, I feel like I would like them, though. That sounds like a name of someone I would like.
Matt Jones
Mama said String Band.
Drew Franklin
Oh, well, I know I would like them.
Matt Jones
I mean, I don't know. They're at the bottom of the list.
Drew Franklin
We got some folks here from. From Hopkinsville, and then this couple right here lives in Vienna, Austria. Yeah, Vienna, Austria, which is such a. Like, if you were saying, where's a place you could live and you just wanted to live where it was, like, where it's European, but it's not like you're living in a place you can't understand. And, you know, just Vienna, it's clean. It's a very, very clean place. Vienna might be. I don't love Austria the most as the country in Europe, although I do like it. But Vienna would probably be maybe the best city if you just were looking for a place. I'm like, I got to get out of America and I want to live somewhere. I think Vienna would be right there.
Shannon The Dude
I agree. Spent a week there. My brother was stationed there for two years. So my parents and I, we all went over for a week. Took two of my boys. It was awesome. It was so much fun. It was beautiful. I mean, you guys walk everywhere, but it was beautiful.
Drew Franklin
Yes, you do walk everywhere. Everywhere.
Billy Rutledge
It's a good thing.
Drew Franklin
Well, you don't have to. You can take public transportation.
Shannon The Dude
It's. It was. Everybody wanted to walk.
Drew Franklin
Well, that's because they probably walking. I love to walk. A walk in city is. Yeah, that's the. What. The only thing I dislike about Lexington is it's very hard to walk here. It's very like outside of downtown, it's hard to walk. Louisville's a little better, but not significantly. You know, we just. We don't really have. Great walk.
Billy Rutledge
I'm out Winchester Road. You're definitely not walking around there. I wish I could walk downtown.
Shannon The Dude
Did you eat some Wienerschnitzel when you were there?
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Billy Rutledge
Put another shrimp on the Bobby Dumb.
Drew Franklin
And Dumber joke in Vienna.
Billy Rutledge
Floyd Christmas joke. Dumb a dumber.
Drew Franklin
Okay, Good night, mate. Around the Horn is ending Friday after 23 years. It's been on TV for 23 years. It'll have its last show on Friday. This week they're bringing back the people that have done shows for them for kind of one final go around and then it will end Friday. Did you ever enjoy that show?
Shannon The Dude
I mean, I watched it. I didn't really enjoy it that much. I mean, I remember I saw like Woody Page. He was on there. He's been on there for like years. Yeah, he's still on there. Yeah, see, I don't, I don't watch it, but I know the show and it didn't. Didn't do anything for me.
Drew Franklin
Okay, well, that's a nice goodbye for them. What about you?
Billy Rutledge
My tribute's not going to be a lot better, but I did for years. Didn't miss a day. I mean, it was like Must See TV in the afternoon with PTI here. In the last several years, I haven't really kept up with much ESPN daytime tv. But I was a big fan when it first started. Jay Marioti. Who else was on there?
Drew Franklin
Jay started with the dude. Tim Callison, Woody Page, Jay Mariota. You're right. J. Adande was on there a lot to start with. Jackie McMullen would do it a lot.
Shannon The Dude
Yes.
Billy Rutledge
Then we got to Pablo Torre and.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, he did a lot.
Billy Rutledge
Kate Fagan, a lot of people they.
Drew Franklin
Put on now I've never seen before one of the guys that's on there. I'm actually working with tonight on ESPN radio that David Dennis Jr. Guy. But. But yeah, it's. They. They've. They've been doing it for. For a long time. And if nothing else, you turn in.
Billy Rutledge
Just for Woody Pages chalkboard behind him.
Drew Franklin
That's right. Somebody just gave you a Disney hat.
Shannon The Dude
Disney Tokyo.
Drew Franklin
Oh, Disney Tokyo. Yeah.
Billy Rutledge
Just pull that out of. Just talked about.
Drew Franklin
I know. He apparently had it in his car ready to go. Who's up next? Shane?
Matt Jones
Mary.
Drew Franklin
Mary. But good luck to the 23 years long time to be on TV.
Shannon The Dude
It is show.
Drew Franklin
Do you remember that the original host was not Tony Reali? Who was the original host? Anybody know original host around the horn going once.
Shannon The Dude
Somebody we know going twice.
Billy Rutledge
Max Kellerman.
Drew Franklin
Max Kellerman. Kellerman. Hang on just a second, man. Max Kellerman hosted the show for the first two years. People don't remember that. And then he got put on first take and they moved.
Billy Rutledge
See, I used to watch.
Drew Franklin
It moved. Reality. All right, go ahead. Okay. So you all earlier were talking about the NCAA having structure and rules. Yes. Matt, this is going to be for you. I guess. What makes you think that this house settlement is going to solve the problems that currently are associated with the NCAA or that they're going to put the right rules and guidelines? Well, I didn't say they were going to former. Wait a minute, wait a minute. As a former Division 1 girls basketball head coach, the NCAA does not make rules and regulations that apply to everybody. I'm going to get off and I'm going to let. But I don't know what you mean by that comment. I don't know. What do you mean? They don't make rules that apply to everybody? What does that mean? They don't. They don't follow through. It depends on what school you're associated with. It depends on what you're. Well, they know. You're talking about two different things. You're talking about, ma' am. You're talking about. No, hang on. You're saying they don't fairly apply the rules, which you may be correct on. I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna claim to know the answer. That's a different question, though, than whether or not they make rules. Because they do make rules. Whether they fairly apply them, it's different. So if you're asking me what makes me confident that they will make rules, they've always made rules. Now will they fairly apply them? I have no idea. Okay, but the con. But here's what I know won't work. No rules no rules at all is guaranteed to fail. Now, you're right. Rules won't work unless they're fairly applied. But the idea of anarchy, which is what Tennessee wants, is guaranteed to fail, at least in my view. What rules do we currently have in place, though? Well, that's a long answer and we got to go to break. But I appreciate the call.
Shannon The Dude
I wonder who that was.
Ryan Lemond
TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call TJ he'll make him pay.

Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Drew Franklin
Welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio here live at the KS Bar Grill. Lunchtime. Come on out and say hello. It is, it's supposed to get cold this weekend.
Shannon The Dude
Isn't it supposed to get cold? I think all this week, like 50% chance of rain almost all day today. Temperature in the low 60s.
Drew Franklin
I didn't ask for that level of detail. I just said, was it supposed to get cold this weekend? Right.
Billy Rutledge
I'm pulling it up now. It's, it's a confirm.
Shannon The Dude
I think it's all this week. It's gonna be like in the low 60s.
Drew Franklin
All right, well, it dips down to.
Billy Rutledge
The 50s on Saturday.
Drew Franklin
50S on Saturday. Well, that's no good. It's Memorial Day. You're, it's crazy that this is Memorial Day. It doesn't feel like Memorial Day, does it? It doesn't.
Billy Rutledge
Golf scramble next week too?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, next Friday is okay. And remember, we're at the Mountain Laurel Festival this Friday in Pineville. For those of you at that part of the state. First time we will have ever gone to the Mountain Laurel Festival.
Shannon The Dude
I've heard of the Mountain Laurel Festival for 40 years. Never been. It's my first time to go.
Drew Franklin
Riley Green. Shannon, is that, is that Rail Bird? And somebody writes, Matt, if you want to skip one at Rail Bird to go to KS Bar and eat Riley Green, you would hate. Yes, I've, I, I, I, I don't, I would, it's not that I would hate him. I know I already do. I've seen, I've seen. Not as a human being. I'm sure he's a wonderful fella, but just I've seen his stuff and he's got like country music. Singers in general should not be good looking or at least not in the traditional sense. They shouldn't have, they shouldn't have slick back hair. They shouldn't have killer smiles, blue eyes. He has all of that. And then he's in some controversy because he's, what is it? He's, he's like had like six Baby mamas or something that are all singers. I don't know. I mean that might be not incorrect. I don't know.
Billy Rutledge
I. I know of him. And that crowd will be mostly women to your point, if there was a time to take a break.
Drew Franklin
Women do really like him, don't they?
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, I've seen the lines for him in Nashville. Even when he was much smaller and just playing local bars. I mean they go crazy for him.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
So you want him to look like Luke Combs. Just kind of just got off your truck.
Drew Franklin
I don't really like Luke Combs, but I do think he's talented and he. Yes, he needs to look like that. Or you can look like George Strait where you are good looking but you're a cowboy. What you can't look like is you could be doing an ad for a hair salon and then also being a country music singer. I don't accept that.
Billy Rutledge
He's got the. The big mustache too. That makes him go crazy. I like Luke Combs. You know, he's bald, he's fat, doesn't really do the bro country music too much. Exactly. Ninety day difference from Ryan Green.
Drew Franklin

Are you excited for these series in the NBA?
Shannon The Dude
Actually I am. I've been kind of keeping up with especially since the Pacers have been hot. But I think it's OKC that they're the team to beat. They seem to be playing the best. Don't count out my Pacers though.
Drew Franklin
I'm counting them out. Three of the four teams have Kentucky guys, so I'm rooting for them. You got Shea and Casey Wallace with Oklahoma City. Right. You got Julius Randall with Minnesota. And then you got Carl with the, with the Knicks with the Pacers. And Rob Dillingham.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, every team has one. Jackson. He's not playing right now but he's hurt. He's hurt but he would get A ring.
Drew Franklin
Okay, so think about that. We have a dude on every team, every one of the four teams. But in the case of Carl, Shea, Wallace, and Randall, you got starters. Yeah, I mean, Wallace hitting the starter, but he plays a lot. You got not just starters. I mean, Shea is Oklahoma City's best player. Carl's probably the Knicks second best player, and Randall might be the Timberwolf second best player. Like, we've got big time guys playing.
Billy Rutledge
In this, and they've all been playing great. Even Wallace off the bench has made a huge impact. Julius Randle, I mean, he would be a team's best player the way he's playing right now, if he didn't have Anthony Edwards next to him. I'm for the Knicks, but growing up, I was all Pacers. Like, younger me would be so disappointed. Right now I have the Reggie shirt where he's doing the choke. I hated John Starks. I hated Patrick Ewing, but I've completely flipped and I'm behind New York now.
Drew Franklin
I'm behind the Knicks. Boo. The bing bong. The dude sitting on top of the billboard up there, How'd he get there?
Billy Rutledge
I don't know.
Drew Franklin
Shannon, how'd that guy get on top of the billboard last Friday night?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I don't know how.
Billy Rutledge
It seemed like liquid courage because he.
Drew Franklin
Was also wearing flip flops. He was wearing flip flops and he got on top of the billboard. I want to know how he did that.
Billy Rutledge
That was crazy. Hitting the Pacers fan with the trash might have been a little over the top. Did you see that? Yeah, that was a bit much.
Drew Franklin
Everybody know what they're talking about. This Pacer fan was walking down the street and somebody pulled up a bag of trash and just hit him in the head with that.
Billy Rutledge
Could add glass in it. That could have been bad.
Drew Franklin
So Tyrese Halliburton, this was kind of cool. Found him and is bringing him to game four cool from New York, bringing him to Indiana so he can sit.
Shannon The Dude
That's cool.
Drew Franklin
That's. That's a cool.
Shannon The Dude
Very cool. Yeah, A lot of time players will do something like that. You never hear of it. That's a great gesture he's doing.
Billy Rutledge
I've seen the Knicks get mocked for having these parties after just getting to the conference finals, but it has been a long time since they've had success. I think it's cool to see them all falling out there on 7th Avenue. Like, they've already got a championship parade.
Drew Franklin
Are you excited for the Shay Gilgis Alexander era in the NBA? I mean, he's he's probably going to win the mvp and he's, you know, been awesome here.
Shannon The Dude
He's. He's a Hall of Famer in the making. I think he's just going to be a superstar, get better and better. He's gotten better every year in the league so far.
Drew Franklin
Can I remind you of something, sir? Cal initially started Quad A, green over him.
Shannon The Dude
Shea was a backup.
Drew Franklin
I'm just going to remind you. Cal initial. All right, so you can give Cal credit because he got Shea, Gilgis, Alexander. He was not a McDonald's All American, if you remember.
Shannon The Dude
Right.
Drew Franklin
And he wasn't really highly ranked when Cal went and got him. Then he rose after Kentucky signed him, but he initially was. You see, you got to give Cal credit for seeing that talent. You also do wonder, how did Quad A Green start over him at the beginning?
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, that was bizarre. I guess Quad A coming back got the slight nod, but a few weeks into the season, we knew who needed to be starting. And then you get to that Louisville game, and that was Shay's big breakout moment.
Drew Franklin
Speaking of starting, one person writes, matt, I want you to go on record right now, all five of you, what is the starting lineup, including whether or not Otega comes back or not. Otega's coming back, so, I mean, he hadn't said that, but. But he's going to come back. By the way, Jalen Lowe, our future point guard, will be on KSR tomorrow.
Shannon The Dude
Really?
Drew Franklin
Just a little. A little heads up. He's gonna. He's gonna be joining us tomorrow. First time. First time we've. We've been able to talk to him.
Billy Rutledge
Does he know that I called pit trash in the first hour? Was he listening?
Drew Franklin
That's probably why he came. So, starting lineup, everybody agrees, the point guards, Jaylen Lowe.
Billy Rutledge
Correct.
Drew Franklin
Right. That's uncontroversial. Everybody agrees Otega away starts. Correct?
Billy Rutledge
Correct.
Shannon The Dude
Yep.
Drew Franklin
Uncontroversial. All right, who's the center?
Shannon The Dude
I think Brandon Garrison's. It's his job to lose.
Drew Franklin
We think there's no way Brandon Garrison.
Billy Rutledge
Doesn'T start for talking about the beginning of the year. Brandon Garrison.
Shannon The Dude
Yep.
Drew Franklin
So Brandon Garrison. So you feel like there's three spots locked up?
Shannon The Dude
Yes.
Drew Franklin
Nothing can change those. All right, who is the. Depending on what you consider away a 2 or a 3. Who's the other one?
Shannon The Dude
See, I think they may go a little small and go Aberdeen there and just play. Start those three guys.
Billy Rutledge
I'm going Aberdeen. He's got the ring. He can play defense. I think he's got a little Better shooting than he was able to show at Florida because he was just behind three great guards. So I got low. Aberdeen away.
Drew Franklin
Who's the other contender for that? Jasper Johnson.
Billy Rutledge
Jasper. Colin Chandler. If he has a big break, do.
Drew Franklin
You think there's a chance they're going to bring in Jasper Johnson? Top 10 recruiting? He's not going to start.
Billy Rutledge
I think he's going to be a little behind to start the season. He can't really guard right now. I think that'll take some time. I mean, he's gonna be able to score, but I think by the end of the year, he's going to be playing quality minutes. But I worry about his defense. Just right out of the gate, you.
Drew Franklin
Are zigging, I'm zagging. I'm going to say Jasper Johnson starts. Aberdeen's a six man. I think. I think he's. I think there's no way Jasper Johnson came here to come off the bench, and I think he's going to be an explosive talent and they'll work through his mistakes. Now, there could be a time later in the year that it flips if all the things you're talking about are correct. But I'm going to pick Jasper. Starts at the beginning, then at the four. Could be Diabate, could be the Cam Williams. Williams could be yellow. Who's having a great playoff. Let me tell you, this Croatian kid, I don't think he's just, you know, some dude from Croatia. He's playing on a pro team in the pro playoffs and he's getting like 15 a game. Who you like starting here?
Billy Rutledge
He just had 20 points and 14 rebounds in a playoff game.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, and he's playing with grown men, too. I mean, it's like what, you know, who knows how good like a v sit when he came here, had not played against those guys. He was all this. This dude is playing in these games. But who you got?
Billy Rutledge
I'm going with Diabate, but the shooting guard and power forward, I think is a fluid situation as the year goes on. But start the year, I'll put Dubate there.
Shannon The Dude
When we had this scenario come up earlier, I picked yellow bitch, but I think I'm flipping to Diabate now and have yellow bitch off the bench. And I like Jasper maybe coming off the bench like then Kobe Bray arose last year before he had start.
Drew Franklin
I think Aberdeen does that, I think, but I just think the guy with.
Billy Rutledge
The ring on his finger, I'm saying a little bit of a head start on the freshman.
Drew Franklin
That's a fair point. I'm Going to say the abate starts, but I. I think you're going to see. I would say if Brandon Garrison is not like, Is not focused, you can see a. Where. Where yellow bitch starts over him. Like, I mean, I. I think Garrison is definitely in that position now, but if he comes here and he hasn't improved like Pope thought I could see that flipping Drew. And see, see, see. Especially if you have diabate at the four, who gives you that physicality, you can then bring a guy like yellow Vic in as your center and whatever.
Billy Rutledge
The starting five is. I think when we look at the numbers at the end of the year, the minutes aren't going to be that different between the. The guys starting and the guys coming off the bench. I think there's gonna be a lot of guys playing 20ish low 20 minutes. And Pope using his whole bench.
Drew Franklin
17 minutes a game. Colin Chandler, over. Under.
Billy Rutledge
I'm going over because I'm gonna slot him as Lowe's backup if they want to go that route. Same Playing a little bit of multiple guard positions.
Drew Franklin
You're gonna go over?
Billy Rutledge
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
What do you.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, same. I think he's gonna be the backup point guard. And we saw how Pope likes to, you know, that's why we have. We. Have you mentioned Jaden Quaintance? I think he's gonna be on the floor a lot. Maybe not start, but he'll get as many minutes as Brandon Garrison.
Drew Franklin
I'm still not convinced he's going to be ready.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, we're just doing game one here.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Trent Noah, 12 minutes over, under.
Billy Rutledge
I worry about Trent this year. I will go slightly under a minute under.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I go a little under. I think he's a guy may get lost in the shuffle this rotation.
Billy Rutledge
I still think he's going to make a big leap, but I just think there's so many bodies.
Drew Franklin
He's. Mark Pope is not running out of people.
Shannon The Dude
No.
Drew Franklin
It is clear he has made the decision. I am not running out of folks, and I'm gonna have enough guys no matter what. 859-280-2287. We will take a break here at KS Bar and Grill for lunch. New bacon jam burger prime.

Billy Rutledge
Yeah, about two weeks ago, I saw they were at a restaurant in New York and someone noticed a big fat ring on her hand. And I. Surely he didn't already, but I guess this. This confirms that's a trusty source saying it happened.
Drew Franklin
Hey, listen. So now. So he's still going to be the coach. She's going to be there.
Matt Jones
She's going to be the assistant coach.
Drew Franklin
She's no longer. She's not going to be Miss Maine, so she doesn't have to worry about those duties. She can focus right in. On. On. On North Carolina.
Billy Rutledge
I have a question.
Drew Franklin
Yes?
Billy Rutledge
Do you think he'll. He'll take her name or maybe hyphen. Both names. Is he going to be Bill Hudson Belichick now?
Drew Franklin
It's a good question. Maybe he should be. Hey, listen, you know, life is hard enough, Ryan, on your own. If you find somebody who you can walk with, that makes things easier. They could go to Disney World for their. For their. For their honeymoon.
Shannon The Dude
Yep.
Drew Franklin
I think we wish the happy couple will.
Shannon The Dude
What a circus. This whole thing is a circus. And if you're into the North Carolina athletic director and the president down there thinking, what in the world have we done?
Drew Franklin
But isn't this the way to make it less of a circus? It's like if they're engaged, if they get married, then there's not as much a circus. She's just his. His wife.
Shannon The Dude
She'll end up convincing him to resign probably after one year. I.
Drew Franklin
Why would she convince him to resign? You would think she wants the. The spotlight.
Billy Rutledge
You're working too much. You're too focused on football.
Shannon The Dude
You gotta be focused.
Billy Rutledge
We have yoga in the morning. Quit looking at your playbook.
Drew Franklin
We have yoga in the morning. Well, hey, it's moved quickly, but there you go.
Shannon The Dude
Wow.
Drew Franklin
Can you imagine? She doesn't seem to me like the kind of woman that's not gonna have a big wedding. Right? Like, I think that's good. You Want to talk about a spectacle.
Billy Rutledge
And he doesn't seem like the type of guy will say, no, we don't need that at the wedding. I think she'll have a blank check for that.
Shannon The Dude
Whatever you want, honey.
Matt Jones
Yeah, they're not going to Gatlinburg.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, they are not going to Gatlinburg with an Elvis person. They are going. They are going to have a big one. That'll be the social event of the decade, won't it?
Billy Rutledge
Oh, yeah. And we're getting a reality show out of this. There will be a Bravo or some kind of whatever those, whatever channel all those are on. We're getting some romantic reality show.
Drew Franklin
You're probably right about that. One o' clock. Excuse me, two o' clock. Today, Eastern Kentucky opens up the SEC baseball tournament against Oklahoma. Now remember, they've changed the format of this tournament. Now it's just single game elimination. So it is, it is for those of you that remember what the SEC basketball tournament was. That's what this is now. So for Kentucky to win, they'd have to win five games in five days. But really they're probably in the tournament either way, Drew. But a win today I think would lock them up in the tournament. They would play Oklahoma tomorrow would be Georgia and then you just kind of go from there. So hopefully Kentucky can at least get at least one. I think they're probably in anyway, but we'll see.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, they seem pretty good keeping up with all the bracketologies that have been updating every week. That sweep of Oklahoma is what. What got him in, I think. But it certainly helped to beat Oklahoma again today. I looked on, on DraftKings. It's a pick them to let you know where the odds stand.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, Oklahoma is not pitching their, their ace. They're gonna. It looks like they would wait and pitch him tomorrow if they win today. So we're not having to face the guy that's supposed to be like a top 10 draft pick. He would not. So that's good for us if we can get a win.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, they swept them just, you know, 10 days ago. They get ready to play him again. I saw where Kentucky's going to start. The guy who just started against Northern Kentucky last Tuesday and threw really well against Northern Kentucky. He gets to start tonight. But Kentucky could have gone with their main guy. He started on Thursday. That's five days rest. He probably could have gone tonight.
Drew Franklin
But it seems like most of these teams are taking the view that they're going to start their best guy in the second game if they make it. Yeah. So. So we'll see how that. It's a weird thing if you're. When you're doing your pitching here because you might want to save the guys for the better teams, but if you don't win, it's not going to matter anyway. They won't get to pitch at all.
Billy Rutledge
Yeah, it varies by each team circumstances. I don't see Kentucky running the table. So I think you throw your best guys early and just try to get.
Drew Franklin
We're throwing our midweek starter.
Shannon The Dude
Correct. The guy started against Northern Kentucky. Just.
Drew Franklin
What's his name?
Shannon The Dude
Sour or Sawyer?
Drew Franklin
I don't think his name is Sour. Is it. What's his first name? Sawyer.
Shannon The Dude
The tip of my tongue. It's like Sour. S O W E R S O.
Drew Franklin
What do we think it is? Shannon?
Matt Jones
Saw your Sawyer. That would make more sense.
Drew Franklin
Saw your. Would make more sense than Sour. I think you wouldn't want to name your kids first name Sour.
Shannon The Dude
Well, that's his last name.
Drew Franklin
Oh, okay. Well, that makes more sense. All right. Some interviews I got. Jalen Lowe will be on the show here tomorrow. We are interviewing Mark Pope. They postponed it a day. So we are interviewing Mark Pope tomorrow afternoon after the show. It will air on Thursday, probably assuming it goes long enough. We will do the second hour on Thursday will just be a one on one with me and Mark Pope. That's at least the plan right now. And then the podcast, I'm interviewing Crystal Ball today and Ryan McGee tomorrow. Those podcasts will be up later in the week that you can listen to on Memorial Day weekend.
Shannon The Dude
The Matt Jones podcast with your face on it.
Drew Franklin
No. Why are you confused? The Matt Jones show with my face on.
Shannon The Dude
With your face on it?
Drew Franklin
Yes. With that. With that picture of me smiling.
Billy Rutledge
I love the other guys. Probably gonna wake up, check his phone and have all these new subscribers.
Shannon The Dude

Thank you folks very much for listening.

Kentucky Sports Radio - Hour 2 Summary Episode Release Date: May 20, 2025
Hosts:
Timestamp: 03:08 - 12:00
