Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back. I'm number two Kentucky Sports Radio. Matt, Ryan, Drew and Shannon. 859-280-2287. Text machine is 772-7745254. Ryan Corey Price found the box score that Madisonville Lafayette game. The dude that went 18 and 2/3 innings, by the way, Travis, Nick Trav. 18 and 2/3. Here's what's impressive in relief. Oh, can you imagine looking at your reliever and going, okay, get, son, go, get. Go out there and give me a good 18 and 2/3.
Drew
I've heard of long relievers, but that's ridiculous.
Matt Jones
By the way, the other guy likens for Lafayette. Drew, he just went a cool 14 and he probably thought, you know, if I go 14, I'm gonna get a lot of praise for it. And then the other guy goes 18 and 2/3 and you're 14. Doesn't look like anything in the end.
Shannon
Yeah, you can't really say much to my guy Travis. I think he said, I don't. Yeah, I don't understand how. I went to Madisonville for four years, never saw a statue of that man. I should have been driving past his statue every morning on my way to school.
Ryan
Well, Vic, Travis ended up being a big league umpire. He's from here. He's. He probably pitched for Lafayette. He's Alex.
Matt Jones
Oh, you think that's who it is?
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Do you have any basis for that or you're just saying that? That's. There could be a lot of Travis's. You think. You think it's this one?
Ryan
No, it's gotta be this guy Victor that was the.
Shannon
Travis was the loser then. Then I the winner I should have been seeing.
Matt Jones
So. So I like this Shannon. He is just convinced that the only person whose last name is Travis.
Ryan
Vic.
Matt Jones
That could have first played it. Oh, his first name was Vic.
Ryan
Yeah, Vic Travis was the. The pitcher, and he's also became a big league umpire.
Matt Jones
Okay. All right. So you know his name was Vic.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Ryan
That's what the caller said.
Matt Jones
Oh, he did? Okay. All right, fair enough. 859-280-2287. Let's go over a couple things. First of all, did you see, Shannon, any of the videos from Bardstown Road this weekend?
Drew
No.
Matt Jones
What was.
Drew
There were fights.
Matt Jones
Oh, no. I didn't even know. I don't even know that you can use the word fights. Melee on this.
Drew
Glad I didn't go out there.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So that area, I think it started next to the Taco Bell.
Drew
Yep.
Matt Jones
I know what you're talking about on Bardstown Road, but just go look it up.
Drew
I mean, matter with the price of tacos or what's the.
Matt Jones
I don't know what it is. It seemed to me like it was a. It was. I don't know. It seems like back in the old days, Shannon, when they would do the 247 belt in the WWE. The hardcore belt.
Drew
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And you. And people would just. There was just a melee of people. Usually Al Snow was involved in those.
Drew
That's right.
My Computer Career Advertiser
Yeah.
Drew
You might have been doing that.
Matt Jones
It's crazy. And it just goes on and on. If you look at the videos, the two things you notice is the fights don't stop, and they just seem to add people exponentially. And then there. Everyone has their phone out filming.
Drew
Wow.
Matt Jones
Like, they're like, oh, yeah.
Drew
Everybody's gotta be a spectator.
Matt Jones
Everybody wants to be the one to make the video. So. So what happens is there's this group of people fighting, and then there are, like, dozens of other people that surround it filming the videos. They end up Shannon fighting to get spots to film the video. You think I'm kidding about this? Go look at it.
Drew
I've never. Yeah, I did not hear it.
Matt Jones
It's crazy. It starts at the Taco Bell, and it looks to be going down the street towards the bars down there, like, towards Wicks and. And o' Shea's Baxters, all that stuff.
Drew
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And it just seems. It's almost like the Lord of the Rings trilogy of fights. It just keeps going and going. And I was never told what it was over. I'm sure it was something very important. But it is. And, you know, you look at it and you go, the police end up showing up. The police. Have none of you seen these videos?
Shannon
I saw clips on social media.
Drew
Okay, so is it like Twitter or.
Ryan Seacrest
Like, where should I know?
Matt Jones
It's Like, I don't know, There's. They just show up on some Instagram accounts. Like, there's a. There's a Louisville News or something. I just. Just look around. I feel like they're on Facebook and Instagram and. Tick tock you. You'll find it. I don't have a particular account. Drew, you saw them. If you're seeing like that.
Shannon
No, it's chaos everywhere. Was that in protest of the Mid City Mall? Is that what they were doing?
Matt Jones
No, I think it's just. I guess it's a Saturday night out.
Drew
Okay, I got it now. On Facebook.
Matt Jones
Okay. Do you see what I'm talking about? Look. Yeah, there's. There's, like. By the way, that's the official news is the Louisville News. Yeah, you don't need WDRV or WAVE or whas. You go to Louisville News, Facebook. Look at that.
Drew
Good grade.
Matt Jones
Can you imagine? You're just walking down the street, you're just like, I gotta get a taco at Taco Bell. And you run into that. I mean, what are you doing?
Drew
What are you doing running the other way?
Ryan
That's what I was gonna say, man. These people. Stick around and record it. I'm getting the heck out of there, man. I'm getting.
Matt Jones
Are you. Shannon? Are you. Are you getting out of there? Are you recording it?
Drew
Nah, I'm probably leaving. I used to go down there every weekend, you know, like, my younger days, I was. That was, you know, Phoenix Hill Tavern, all those bars down there. I was down there every weekend.
Matt Jones
It makes me sad. That area has completely. Those bars. I mean, you're right, Chin. And that used to be where you went out. Louisville?
Drew
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I would say years. From like 2000 to 2008. Nine, something like that, right? I mean, that was where you went. Was that part of town?
Drew
I'm not walking with you to o' Shea's anymore. Not. Not after seeing that.
Matt Jones
No, it's not. It's not that. It's not like that.
Drew
I don't know.
Matt Jones
I feel like they would have to. They'd have the streets barricaded off if it was like that.
Drew
What have. You and I were going our. You know, or. And you will walk down to o' Shea's and that happens now.
Matt Jones
Maybe we should. Here's what I bet you. I bet you it's safer next weekend than it was last week, probably so.
Drew
Gonna be a heavy police presence.
Matt Jones
I'm just telling you, if you want to be like, whoa, that was in Louisville. Go. First of all, go to. Go to Louisville News?
Drew
Yep.
Matt Jones
Videos from Saturday night. Are you seeing them, Ryan? Is Drew showing them to you?
Ryan
I haven't seen him yet. I'm gonna look at during the break.
Matt Jones
Probably just absolutely wild stuff also, I don't know. Did any of you watch Sports Science on espn?
Shannon
Of course.
Matt Jones
That the guy who did it, what was his name? John Brinkus. Brinkus. He passed away this weekend. Sports Science was the thing where they would show, what would you say, Drew? They'd show, like, the numbers of how a high jumper, how far he jumped, or how fast somebody went to Ken Griffey, you know, caught a ball to the outfield. I was, as a kid, thought I just found it interesting because they would take some guy and they would say, you realize he runs X meters per second or whatever, and you go, wow, that seems like amazing stuff. You know, they don't do that stuff anymore, but I actually enjoyed it back in the day.
Shannon
Yeah, that was groundbreaking stuff. Even if they were lying to us, it was very cool to see, like, the exact velocity, Velocity of the ball was hit.
Matt Jones
You think they were making it up?
Shannon
Well, he's faster than a gazelle right here at this point in this clip. I, I, I didn't know the science behind it, but it was a nice, it was a new angle to sports that we'd never seen before.
Matt Jones
I like the idea. You think they just made it up there? He could throw it farther.
Drew
They showed you the science, though. Science.
Matt Jones
Presumably it was science. Ryan, I kind of. I bet those weren't your favorite segments. I don't feel like the science part would have made you interested.
Ryan
No, it kind of made me, My head hurt a little bit trying to figure out what the heck they were talking about. But I remember I did see one on Nolan Ryan one time. He said, like, the ball coming out of his hand was like 109 miles an hour out of his hand. Then by the time it crossed home plate, it was 104 or something like that.
Shannon
Did you believe it?
Ryan
I just believed every second.
Shannon
Exactly.
Matt Jones
But that's not a huge difference. 109 to 104. Did that blow your mind or something?
Ryan
Yeah, that was 109 coming out of his hand. By far the fastest pitch ever recorded.
Matt Jones
Okay, well, I'm glad that clearly stuck with you all these years later. Okay, well, good. Well, so rest in peace to John Brinkus. And then last. You know, I, I don't, I. This may surprise you, Shannon. I don't know a lot about war. Oh, really? Military.
Drew
Okay.
Matt Jones
No, I mean, I don't, I'm Not a war guy. Well, some people really will study, like, military tactics and all this stuff. I don't know anything about it, but I did think this was interesting. Did you see, Shannon, that Ukraine, like, made this big attack on Russia?
Drew
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Did you see that?
Drew
Did see that.
Matt Jones
And did you see how they did it? Because I think it's a. It's fascinating. They, over the course of a year and a half, made this, like, mobile drone shooters. Right. And they. They found a way to get semi trucks into the country. So they just. Over the course of a year and a half, got semi trucks into Russia. And they. So. And they did it like, they go, okay. And they would just leave the semi trucks on the side of the road for a period of time. And in those semi trucks, which look to the naked eye just as trucks where you would drive, you know, goods to. They had a mobile drone launcher. And they placed these trucks all over Russia. So in like, 25 different spots or however many. I don't know how many spots, but spots all over Russia, ranging from the part next to Ukraine all the way to the ends of Siberia. And then at the same moment, they launched these drones attacks from these trucks. And the moment they all went out at the same time, and they took out one third of Russia's air force in their country by doing these trucks. And then they had it to where if anybody tried to get next to the truck to see what they did, the truck exploded. There's. People are saying it is one of the most brilliant military in, like, decades. But it does sound kind of amazing, isn't it, that you just have all these semi trucks and then you launch them all from inside.
Drew
Yeah. And that nobody went up to see, like, what those trucks were. At any point.
Matt Jones
They would hear. They would put. Well, I don't know if they left them the whole year, but they would put them on abandoned roads.
Drew
Yeah.
Matt Jones
That people, like, never went down. And because Russia didn't think it could happen from inside their country, they weren't ready for it. And all of a sudden. So it not only they didn't shoot them from somewhere else, they actually shot them from places inside Russia.
Drew
But they're playing the long game, Right. Imagine, you know, it took a year and a half.
Matt Jones
A year and a half, Ryan. I mean, that's a long time. A year and a half to get it done.
Ryan
Just listen. To tell the story. It sounds like Hollywood sounds like a movie that somebody made that they could pull that off like that. It's amazing.
Matt Jones
And I'm sure there's military people out there that clearly know more about it. Maybe you're more or less impressed with it. I keep seeing all these people from around the world saying this is one of the most brilliant strikes of all time, blah, blah, blah. But just the idea that you would for a year and a half plan to take these trucks there. Then they made it to where if anybody was to ever come close to them, the truck explodes so that they could never catch it.
Drew
And then it worked. Imagine you do all that and it doesn't work.
Ryan
Yeah.
Drew
Or something doesn't launch, man.
Matt Jones
And it. And they took out a third of their, of their aircraft missile, our aircraft long range missile shooters in like five minutes. So kind of amazing. Who's up next?
Drew
Junior?
Matt Jones
Junior, Go ahead, Junior.
Caller
Hey guys, I got the best sports trivia question in the history of sports trivia and it's about major league baseball. Who has the career record for most home runs hit on Mother's Day? It's a two part question.
Matt Jones
I'm gonna go ahead and tell you. I don't think this is the best question in the history of trivia. No matter what your answer. Unless your answer is like Mother Teresa. I don't think it's going to be the best ever. But we'll play along. Who has the most home runs in the history of Mother's Day? I don't know. I'll say Albert Pujols, who is it?
Caller
Yes, but you're wrong. It's Ken Griffey Jr. All right.
Matt Jones
That was actually going to be my next guest. Literally, I was going to say Ken Griffey Jr. Okay, go ahead.
Caller
Who has the most career home runs in major league baseball history hit on Father's day?
Matt Jones
King Griffey Jr. Well, I mean I think the only way this is interesting is if it's Also Ken Griffey Jr.
Caller
It is interesting and it is also Ken Griffey Jr. It just speaks to his natural talent. Hey mom, I'm going to hit a home run for you today. Hey dad, I'm going deep for you today on Father's Day. I just, I always.
Matt Jones
Okay, well that. No, that is interesting. I'll, I'll agree with you. That's interesting. So I appreciate the call you Ryan. You think people can do it in honor of their families like that?
Ryan
I mean you've seen people like promise a home run to a kid, a sick kid or somebody. They medicine, sometimes they follow through. And it does happen. King Griffey Jr.
Matt Jones
They never do the story though when it doesn't happen. Drew. Right like you always hear those stories about how they meet the kid and then they say I'm gonna hit home run. They do, but then you never hear the story. I'm sure it has to happen where they didn't hit a home run. That one it doesn't feel like comes up as much.
Drew
No.
Shannon
Where are my videos of crying kids that were promised a home run and they didn't deliver? In these big moments, all the kid wanted was a home run for their birthday and you let them down.
Drew
That to me is the more interesting stat. Guy promised home run to a dying child and struck out five times in the game.
Matt Jones
Yeah, they they don't get what's the guy who makes you cry. Tom Rinaldi doesn't do pieces about the time the guy went over four with a lazy ground out to short after those the little guy tore his ACL Toya tears his ACL in the process. This song always. Song always makes me laugh. They would play this. Wasn't there a show, Ryan, that would show like baseball highlights or something?
Ryan
Oh, yeah.
Drew
This Week in Baseball.
Ryan
This Week in Baseball.
Matt Jones
This Week in Baseball. That's right.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Watching that a lot. Right? We come on like, what, Saturday morning.
Ryan
Saturday morning, Yep.
Matt Jones
And then they would. What would they show? Because I do remember this show, but I don't remember what was on it.
Ryan
They would show the past week's highlight. Sometimes you have a cool little feature on something on a team or a guy.
Matt Jones
What was the name of the host?
Ryan
Mel Allen.
Matt Jones
Mel Allen. Okay. I do remember this song from. From doing that. The. The account. One of the accounts that has these videos. Shannon, WTF Louisville? Guess what WTF means?
Drew
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
Matt Jones
One person writes, matt, I was at that Taco Bell the night all those fights happened. It was wild. And people kept running in from all over to video it. And you're right, more of the fight started with people trying to video it and then getting in fights. I didn't think it would ever end.
Drew
Wow, that's close.
Matt Jones
Because everybody neck of the woods too, but you can kind of see it is close to my neck. But you can see the inclination to. You see this fight and you want to Video it so that people will.
Drew
Watch your video, I guess, fighting for views and likes.
Matt Jones
But also, like, I don't even remember who it is that posts these videos. So I don't know if that really helps you, but either way, just be careful when you go to Taco Bell. Chip says. Here's an interesting. Another interesting story from the Lafayette Madisonville game. Tom Rogers from Madisonville played football at uk. He was in charge of videoing the game for Madisonville and he recorded the entire game, but he forgot to remove the lens cap. So he missed the historical game. No, that can't be true. Come on now. That can't be true.
Ryan
Recorded that. Do they have lens caps back in 1970.
Shannon
Tom Rogers is a Madisonville legend. I can't believe he would do that.
Matt Jones
You think, okay, do we call, do we call truth or do you throw the challenge flag or not on that story that he forget that Tom Rogers forgot the lens cap on the camera?
Ryan
I'm throwing the challenge flag. I think Tom Rogers slept and missed the whole game and that was the story he came up with.
Matt Jones
Or maybe he like, put it. I don't know. Shane, what do you think? Like, put it without someone manning it and then left and didn't realize he left the lens cap.
Drew
I mean, I guess that's possible, but like when you look through the lens, you see that it's all black because there's a cap.
Matt Jones
Which means he would have had to have not been there to do that. Right. Had to set it and forget it and then go somewhere else.
Drew
But you would think you would have it all focused before you just left it. You know, you would, you would focus. Any, any novice cameraman would at least have it focused.
Matt Jones
And so you're saying you think chips lie?
Drew
Yeah, I don't think there's any truth.
Ryan
Not true.
Shannon
I'm gonna believe Chip. I don't know how you would just make that up, Tom.
Drew
I think he did.
Shannon
I just think he had a one.
Ryan
Bad moment, had a brain fart.
Matt Jones
How do you. How do you make it up? Ask Chip. He just did it.
Shannon
I believe Chip with the end of.
Matt Jones
The Knicks Pacer series, NBA on TNT has now ended. Drew after. I think they've been doing it for 31 years. The NBA has been on TNT in some form and then the NBA show with Barkley and those guys have been on since I think the late 90s. They are now going to move to ESPN, but it will still be produced by TNT. But they will no longer be on TNT. I think the question for me we talked, but now it's over. I saw on their final show, Shaq said to espn, ESPN don't blank with us. Do you think ESPN will ruin it? Will they try to put Stephen A or someone on it and ruin what I think is objectively the best sports television show that has ever existed?
Shannon
I think they absolutely will. I saw Shaq's comments, went with the full F bomb on. On TV on his last show there.
Matt Jones
See that a lot. Yeah.
Shannon
No, but he even said he's like, last time doing this, whatever. But, yeah, I am worried that we'll have Kendrick Perkins sitting between Charles Barkley.
Matt Jones
I better not see.
Shannon
I think they'll work in their ESPN people and ruin what has been a great thing for decades.
Matt Jones
I mean, you've been in television a lot in your life, Ryan. One thing I've learned about television is that everybody thinks that they can make whatever it is better. Right? So when I did hey, Kentucky, when I signed the agreement, part of my signing was, you will let me do whatever I want. And they said yes. And when my boss, he kept saying yes, and then the boss changed and he tried to do stuff to change it, and I fought it off, but it was hard. Do you think ESPN will be like, oh, this is a great show, but you know what would make it better? Throw in a little Stephen A. Like, they'll screw it up if they do that. They will.
Ryan
You can guarantee they're going to do that. They want to put Stephen A. Or Kendrick Perkins or some of their own guys on.
Matt Jones
Kendrick Perkins is awful, by the way. They cannot. And I know he's my. Don't tell anybody I said that, Shannon, because, like, technically, yeah, he's a coworker. You cannot put Kendrick, either one of them, but definitely Kendrick Perkins. But go ahead, Ryan.
Ryan
I feel like no matter how hard they try, though, it will never be the same that just those four guys on TNT kind of got.
Matt Jones
What if they keep just the four guys? You don't think they can be the same somewhere else?
Ryan
Well, they have to keep the same producers. They have to keep the same everything.
Matt Jones
They are keeping the same every. They're even doing it in Atlanta. They're still doing it where they are, you know, work. If you do that.
Ryan
I don't, you know, the way Ernie reacted, like, you know, he teared up and even Shaq was turned up a little bit. I think they know it's never going to be the same. And I. No matter how much they try to say it, ESPN will get their fingers in it, and it will not be the same anymore.
Matt Jones
They just can't. Shit. They're going to want to put Stephen.
Drew
Yeah. They have their own established personalities they want to inject in there.
Matt Jones
They can't, though. Like, what makes that great, that those dudes like each other and it's natural. And if you start throwing somebody else in, if there's just no way to work, they got it. Just stay away from it.
Ryan
And they can be, they can be pretty critical. And I don't know if ESPN will let them be critical like they are sometimes. Like, you know, Charles Barkley will say this so and so's stinks or whatever, you know, I don't know if ESPN will let him do all that.
Matt Jones
Well, they better because that's, that is the best show in sports on television. You cannot screw it up. Who's next?
Drew
We're up against the break here. I got 27.
Matt Jones
Okay, I'll tell you what. Well, then just tell whoever that is. We'll be right back. 859-280-2287. KSR TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call TJ. He'll make him pay.

Matt, I'm driving back from a girls weekend in South Carolina. Drew Laney from Mount Sterling is driving. She's the queen of the zipper merge. I've seen more people doing it recently. Is that the KSR effect? No, but I still am a big advocate. Shannon did a really good one on Saturday. I was proud. Did you just got right up there, waited for the truck, the semi.
Drew
Cut right in, cut the semi off.
Matt Jones
No, you have to use the semi because it takes the semi.
Drew
Truckers right now driving around listening to you.
Matt Jones
The trucker knows it takes it a minute to get going.
Drew
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And because it takes it a minute to get going, that's when you zipper merge. You go, and remember I've been. People keep sending me studies Drew, it is quicker for the general collective to zipper merge. So I'm. I'm an advocate in most situations. Even though I feel bad when I do it, it's still. I think, the right thing to do.
Shannon
I still think you might be confusing just cutting someone off in traffic with a zipper merge. I think these are two different techniques.
Ryan
Yes.
Shannon
I think the zipper merge is more of a collective effort. You're all one on the road, little. A lot of teamwork involved. Sometimes just going to the front and, you know, pulling in there. That's.
Matt Jones
What is the difference between cutting someone off in a zipper merge.
Shannon
Everyone's a willing participant in the zipper merch.
Matt Jones
Well, I can't collectively, Ryan, talk to everyone and say, let's all do this. I can only control my behavior.
Ryan
When the. You go down the interstate and the left lane is closed and the line of traffic's all on the right, the guy that drives all the way up to the very end of the left lane, and then that's a zipper merch. That's not a zipper merge. So that's not a zipper merge.
Matt Jones
It should be. No, it zipper merges.
Ryan
When you've got two lanes of cars. You have to. You're taking turns going one at a time.
Matt Jones
No, no. There's an order.
Shannon
There's a process.
Ryan
Yes, yes.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but there. No. The only reason there's not a process is because the other people are not participating. What you just. The situation you just described, Ryan, is where you're supposed to do a zipper merge, where you're talking about a lane gets closed. Okay, Laughing at. I'm being serious. Okay. So there's a lane closed, and then you start, you know, Shannon, you start seeing signs. Lane closed in 3,000ft, 2,000ft, etc. A zipper merge is that you all should use that period of time and then merge at the point that the lane is closed.
Ryan
It is not everyone to sign up. Maybe.
Matt Jones
No, that's not. That's what people. No, no, no. That's where people. That's p. We've been. We've been told to do over time, and that is actually less effective. The zipper merge is starting farther back.
Drew
Less effective for you.
Matt Jones
Supposed to do. It's less effective for humanity.
Ryan
We had to. We had to put this up for a vote between the four of us.
Matt Jones
I don't know. The. The. The public is not right just because it's the public.
Drew
I'm just saying, in any other form of life, go cut somebody off and see what happens.
Matt Jones
I agree with you, Shannon. It would Be rude. But. But zipper merge is different. It is scientific, Shannon. Yeah, it is.
Drew
I'm supposed to be up here at the front of the line. Let me cut everybody else off.
Matt Jones
No, it's not about everyone should be doing it. The point is, if everybody did it, it wouldn't be cutting people off because we would be doing the most efficient thing. Drew. You see what I'm saying?
Shannon
So you're thinking you're kind of. You're leading and everyone else is just behind on what we're doing here. You think you have the way I.
Matt Jones
What I'm doing is trying to take humanity to a play.
Shannon
So you're just really a man of the people with your zipper marriage.
Matt Jones
I'm a man of trying to lead the people to a brighter tomorrow. It's what we're. It's basically. It's basically what we're saying. Doesn't sound like you buy it. Right. One person writes. Matt, I was at the golf scramble on Friday. I think it was the most fun one you've had. Didn't get a lot of rain. Ryan and Mario were nice to everyone. Thank you for putting it on. I do think it was one of. Amazingly, Ryan, it didn't rain. I mean, we got through that whole day after it poured. It literally kind of stopped right before we started. And by the end of the day, it was nice.
Ryan
It was a beautiful day out on the golf course. And I think that may be the fastest scramble we've ever had. Usually we're stuck out there till six or seven o' clock.
Matt Jones
It was spread out over two courses.
Ryan
Yeah. There wasn't any backups on my side anyway. Didn't see me.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it really was. It really wasn't. It was. It was. It was great.
Ryan
I heard a rumor that Judge Gabe is the only person that hit the CNS Pools bullseye the whole day.
Matt Jones
He did. He hit the bullseye. He won. I don't know what they gave away, but he won something.
Ryan
I think he's the only one.
Matt Jones
Prizes?
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Wild eggs. If you chipped in this little bucket, you got like a free meal. And I got that one. I was able to hit it in that Gabe hit the pool thing. And what was. Who won? I think. Did we ever find out who won?
Shannon
I did not defend my crown. I don't know what one on my course, but it was not me.
Ryan
I think the scores were better on you. On your course, Matt.
Matt Jones
Thank you.
Shannon
Drew's course, Wildcats a little tougher.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Well, it was a lot of fun. And thank you to. To to the University Club for hosting it and all the people that came out one. It seemed like one of the more positive experiences. We've agreed, so appreciate all of it. Who's up next?
Drew
Mike.
Matt Jones
Mike. Go ahead, Mike.
Caller
All right, a couple things. Big Travis was a umpire. He actually had an umpiring school here in Lexington that I attended when I was in college, and it was really good. And I think it's something they're missing now as far as referee coverage and stuff in this area. The other thing is, if you think Kentucky baseball was painful, how would you like to be Vandy or Texas number one, number two overall seed in the entire thing? Both got eliminated. And then lastly, it is a really a douchebag move to do what you do on the.
Matt Jones
Okay, that's Stop it now. Right now, all the day. Whiskey, what's the name of that caller? What's the name of the call? Mike, have you studied the science of the zipper merge?
Drew
He already dropped the mic and hung up. He's gone.
Matt Jones
He's not interested in the science. He's interested in feeling, Shannon, not facts. And I'm just trying to promote facts as to what it is. The the number one and two seeds lost in the baseball tournament. Ryan. That's the first time that's happened since 1999. And Tennessee has a chance to go down today. They're one of the top seeds. LSU has a chance to go down. So it feels like if there was ever going to be a year for a random team to win the baseball tournament, this might be the one. A lot of SEC teams there. You know, we had 14 teams in. I think there's only six left in the SEC in the tournament.
Ryan
You know, I'm pulling for Murray State to take out Ole Miss today also. So there could be a lot of more SEC teams fallout today.
Matt Jones
Speaking of an SEC team, an SEC coach made some news, though. This is. I'm going to play you. This is the Coastal Carolina coach. Okay. Coastal Carolina is hosting a regional and Florida was in their region. Florida got eliminated and I guess Florida was upset because a game started later than it was supposed to for rain reasons, and they got mad and took it out on the. Well, you'll hear the Coastal Carolina coach after they win to make the to go to the super regionals. Coastal Carolina coach goes to the press conference and he had this to say about the Florida coach. What about that? Shannon thinks he can come and bully people around. Calls out the Florida coach for being a jerk and trying to bully people around. Do you like that?
Drew
I like that he's calling them out. Absolutely. I would like to know specifically how he was bull. Bullying them, but I like that this guy.
Matt Jones
Well, Drew, there's a video. Have you. Have anybody seen the video of the coach? He's kind of like give them the. Giving them the heretofore. I guess he's mad that they were postponing the start of the game, which was going to make Florida have to play later and then they might have to play again. He was good. He was upset that they were delaying the start of his game because if they won, it wouldn't give him enough rest for the night game. Well, he ended up losing, so it didn't matter anyway. But Drew, do you like calling out Florida's hall of Fame coach and saying, don't be picking on my field crew.
Shannon
I love it. We need more of this. Normalize. Calling out other coaches with behind the scenes stories who wouldn't otherwise know. A lot of times this would happen and it would just never see the light of the day. The Coastal Carolina coach would take his anger home with him to bed. But this guy said no, I'm telling everybody. I'm tattletailing in this press conference. And now we can see the Florida coach. I've seen the clip you're talking about. Just berating someone who probably had nothing to do with any of the decisions. Just someone working the field that day. And I'm glad he got called out for it. Bring more drama to light.
Matt Jones
I agree. Call out coach especially. I'm for Ryan calling out coaches for being jerks to people just doing their job. I love the Coastal Carolina coach. I'm a fan of his. Now I have.
Ryan
I don't know who this guy is, but I'm a huge fan as well. You know, it's always been a kind of cardinal rural. Coaches don't say anything bad about other coaches, but something like that guy trying to bully the field. Maintenance like it's their fault it was raining that day. They had nothing to do with. They're trying to get the field ready for you to play. Shut up.
Matt Jones

Ryan
Not often. Some. Yeah.
Matt Jones

That's. Well, unfortunately. Sad to hear that. We'll take a break and be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio.

I'M glad to see that I have some support on the text machine. 777-277-45254 the text of the day. One person writes, Matt, being the only one that understands Zip emerge the correct way is almost infuriating. It's very simple and I don't understand how these other three guys who are smart can't wrap their minds around it. Totally agree with you on that.
Drew
Yeah, it is very cutting in line. Yeah.
Matt Jones
Okay, so let me read you this one. One person writes, matt, I feel like this will help those guys understand. Think about the two lanes at McDonald's. What do people do? Do they either all go in one long lane and then get to the front and decide which way to go or are there two long lanes that at the end after you order zipper merge together?
Drew
Huge difference.
Matt Jones
That's the way it could be in traffic. Exactly.
Drew
Big difference.
Shannon
That's a forced zipper merge. There's not a. There's no one navigating our zipper merge.
Matt Jones
On the open road. People could just decide to sit in one lane, but they've over time collectively realized to get into that it works better. So that should be what society is like. We should follow the McDonald's drive thru. McDonald's has showcased that this is the best way.
Drew
Well, we need Ronald McDonald out there on the highway directing traffic.
Matt Jones
See, I've left you speechless, Ryan, because you know, you are we. This. This person makes the right point.
Ryan
No, I think most people listening and the responses that Drew and I have.
Drew
Gotten are definitely our text machine says.
Ryan
Other things seem to be a lot.
Matt Jones
What text machine? You don't have a text machine. What is your text machine?
Shannon
Ryan has the original text machine.
Ryan
Yeah, my cell phone got some things I can't even tell you what those.
Matt Jones
You. You asked for this yourself, Ryan. Those of you who who know Ryan's text machine, text him and tell him who's correct. I think he would like to hear from you.
Ryan
Okay. Yeah, that'd be great. Can't wait to get those.
Drew
Well, you got a new phone. It should be ready.
Matt Jones
Do you have my new phone?
Ryan
Does work. Finally.
Matt Jones
Oh, you got a new phone.
Ryan
I had to get a new phone. Finally got it to work. Still green bubbles.
Matt Jones
Did you get an iPhone?
Ryan
No, absolutely not. Android.
Matt Jones
For Android. What is the. What is your brand? What is the. What is the name of it?
Ryan
Samsung Galaxy 21, I think is what I'm working with these days.
Shannon
Did you get the insurance?
Ryan
Of course I got the insurance.
Shannon
Had to get the warranty.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Samsung Galaxy 21. How many. Where are we on the Galaxy World? Is this one of the newer ones or is this an old one?
Ryan
No, it's definitely an old one. Probably before COVID I think. So how many countries are there?
Drew
Yeah, 40. I mean, maybe.
Matt Jones
Okay, let's. Shannon, look up what's. Where are we on the same.
Shannon
Looks like they're on the 25.
Matt Jones
Oh, you're. And you got 21.
Ryan
21. 21. Yeah. My insurance was a swap one for the other.
Matt Jones
Oh, so you got a swap on a 21. So in perpetuity you can only get 21?
Ryan
Correct.
Matt Jones
If I don't, you got insurance on this one that also will only get you 21s.
Ryan
Well, you can, you know, pay the upgrade. If you want to pay another five.
Matt Jones
You didn't pay that. So basically, Shannon, the cell phone technology in 2019 is going to be Ryan's forever. Right? Like, he can never.
Drew
Well, I mean, what's the 25 going to do? The 21 can't do?
Matt Jones
Well, I mean, I would still. Processing speed is quicker.
Drew
Yeah.
Matt Jones
The camera is better. I'm sure there's going to be AI features integrated in new ones. And Ryan, you're just never going to get any of those.
Ryan
No, I don't need any of that. I just need to be able to text you guys, make a few phone calls.
Matt Jones
So you bought insurance again?
Ryan
Oh, yeah.
Matt Jones
On a phone that's six years old.
Ryan
Yes, yes. So if I drop it and crack it and break it again.
Shannon
But how much would the 21 be if you just bought it if it's such an old model?
Matt Jones
Conceivably be now. I bet it's very cheap because no one would buy it.
Ryan
Yeah, I don't know if I could. I just got the insurance and it has a swap. But did you look into it?
Matt Jones
Did you look into maybe going, so how many?
Shannon
Here's some for 180. Brand new on ebay.
Matt Jones
Okay, so that's good. All right, so it's 180. How much are you paying a month in insurance?
Ryan
I just paid $100 deductible. So I don't know what the monthly charge is.
Matt Jones
No, but going forward, how much a month is your insurance?
Ryan
I don't know.
Matt Jones
That might be good to Know, could.
Drew
Be a 2 or 300.
Matt Jones
You may have ended up paying, like, let's say you're paying $20 a month in insurance. You may end up paying in eight months what the whole phone would have cost, period.
Drew
It possible you already paid for that phone twice over.
Matt Jones
I mean, almost certainly it's the case, Ryan, that you are going to in a year pay for the phone and insurance and still not have paid for the phone.
Ryan
Yeah. The insure is not $20. I think it's like single digits four or five.
Matt Jones
But you don't know.
Ryan
I don't know. I don't know. My phone's just buzzing like crazy right now. I really appreciate that.
Drew
Good. Are they agreeing with us or are they agreeing with Matt?
Matt Jones
I can't, like, you gotta at least know how much the insurance is and make a good financial decision. That's all I'm asking.
Ryan
Okay. I'll just make up my, my new bill and see what it is.
Shannon
The value of the 21 is only going to go down maybe in a year. It's a hundred dollars.
Ryan
Maybe it's the whole phone. It'll become a collectible collector's item. It'll go up.
Matt Jones
But that's why you don't do these things, because the value goes down. And if you ever need to replace it and you want to buy the same one you have, it will be cheaper than the amount of insurance you paid up until that point.
Ryan
You guys do remember who you're talking to? I know.
Matt Jones
We're trying, we're trying to help you. Who's next?
Drew
Let's go to Joe.
Matt Jones
Joe, just got a minute. Quickly. I was gonna say something about that, that drone thing, but when the Samsung.
Caller
21 came out, Kentucky basketball was 4.
Matt Jones
And 7 and coming off a 20 point loss to Alabama, had already lost to Richmond, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Louisville. I'm glad he's gone. I love you, Mark Pope, Team Android. Ryan, this was. He bought the. He bought the Samsung 21 was right after Olivier Saar missed another open jumper drew to win the game. So.
Shannon
So thanks for that memory.

Podcast Summary: KSR - Hour 2
Release Date: June 2, 2025
Host: Matt Jones and the KSR Crew
Broadcasted by: iHeartPodcasts and Sports Talk 790 (WKRD-AM)
In the second hour of the June 2, 2025 episode of Kentucky Sports Radio (KSR), host Matt Jones and the KSR crew—comprising Ryan, Drew, and Shannon—delved into a mix of local sports highlights, community events, and broader societal discussions. The conversation was dynamic, filled with insightful commentary, nostalgic reflections, and interactive listener engagement.
The episode kicked off with an in-depth analysis of the Madisonville-Lafayette baseball game. Ryan highlighted an extraordinary performance by Travis, who pitched an unprecedented 18 and 2/3 innings.
Ryan Seacrest [03:05]: "Ryan Corey Price found the box score that Madisonville Lafayette game. The dude that went 18 and 2/3 innings, by the way, Travis, Nick Trav. 18 and 2/3."
Matt Jones [03:26]: "Here's what's impressive in relief. Oh, can you imagine looking at your reliever and going, okay, get, son, go, get. Go out there and give me a good 18 and 2/3."
The team marveled at the sheer endurance and questioned the strategy behind such an extended relief stint, contemplating the potential for future accolades while acknowledging the exhaustion it must entail for the pitcher.
Shifting from sports, the crew discussed the chaotic events that unfolded on Bardstown Road over the weekend. Drew reported witnessing multiple fights ignited by individuals eager to film the disturbances, leading to an escalating series of confrontations.
Drew [05:04]: "There were fights."
Matt Jones [05:05]: "It was a melee on this."
The discussion compared the mayhem to WWE’s hardcore belt matches, emphasizing the spiraling nature of the fights fueled by onlookers attempting to capture the chaos on their devices. Shannon expressed concern over the safety and the transformation of a once-fun nightlife area into a hotspot for disorder.
The crew reminisced about the classic ESPN show Sports Science, reflecting on its unique approach to dissecting athletic performances through data and technology. They also paid tribute to John Brinkus, a beloved figure from the show who recently passed away.
Matt Jones [09:48]: "Sports Science was the thing where they would show, what would you say, Drew? They'd show, like, the numbers of how a high jumper, how far he jumped..."
Matt Jones [10:30]: "But that's not a huge difference. 109 to 104. Did that blow your mind or something?"
The hosts shared memories of memorable segments, such as Nolan Ryan’s extraordinary pitching speeds, highlighting the lasting impact Brinkus had on their understanding and appreciation of sports analytics.
A significant portion of the discussion centered on Ukraine’s innovative military tactics against Russia, specifically the deployment of mobile drone launchers disguised as semi-trucks across Russian territory. Drew provided a detailed account of how these trucks were strategically placed to launch drone attacks simultaneously, effectively crippling a third of Russia’s air force in a coordinated strike.
Matt Jones [12:07]: "They, over the course of a year and a half, made this, like, mobile drone shooters... They just go out there and give me a good 18 and 2/3."
Matt Jones [14:18]: "But they're playing the long game, Right. Imagine, you know, it took a year and a half."
The crew expressed awe at the strategic brilliance behind the operation, discussing the meticulous planning and the element of surprise that made the attacks so effective. They pondered the implications of such tactics on modern warfare and the potential for future conflicts.
Listener interactions formed a vibrant part of the episode, with callers posing intriguing sports trivia questions. One notable interaction involved a listener challenging the hosts on who holds the record for the most home runs hit on Mother’s and Father’s Day in Major League Baseball.
Caller [15:08]: "Who has the career record for most home runs hit on Mother's Day?... Ken Griffey Jr."
Matt Jones [15:23]: "I'll say Albert Pujols, who is it?"
The revelation that Ken Griffey Jr. holds the record for both occasions sparked admiration among the hosts, who commended Griffey's dedication and emotional connection to his family through his performances.
A significant highlight was the discussion about the NBA show moving from TNT to ESPN, marking the end of a 31-year partnership. The crew voiced concerns about potential changes in the show's dynamic and fear that ESPN might dilute the chemistry that made the program beloved by fans.
Shannon [24:52]: "I think they absolutely will... betray the original essence with their own personalities."
Matt Jones [25:40]: "Do you think ESPN will ruin it? Will they try to put Stephen A or someone on it and ruin what I think is objectively the best sports television show that has ever existed?"
The hosts lamented the possibility of introducing new hosts who might not mesh as well as the original team, fearing a loss of authenticity and the unique banter that defined the show.
An engaging segment involved the hosts debating the concept and execution of the zipper merge—a traffic management technique aimed at optimizing lane closures and reducing congestion. The discussion highlighted common misconceptions and the importance of collective effort to ensure its effectiveness.
Listener [41:00]: "Matt, being the only one that understands Zip emerge the correct way is almost infuriating..."
Matt Jones [41:43]: "Think about the two lanes at McDonald's... the best way to handle traffic."
Shannon and Drew emphasized the difference between cooperative zipper merging and aggressive lane-cutting, advocating for a community-minded approach to enhance traffic flow and safety.
Matt recapped a recent golf scramble event, praising its success despite initial weather challenges. The hosts celebrated the camaraderie and competitive spirit displayed by participants, highlighting individual achievements such as Judge Gabe’s impressive bullseye.
Matt Jones [32:26]: "It was a beautiful day out on the golf course... It was great."
Ryan Seacrest [32:34]: "I heard a rumor that Judge Gabe is the only person that hit the CNS Pools bullseye the whole day."
The positive feedback underscored the event’s role in fostering community engagement and promoting local sportsmanship.
A lighthearted yet insightful conversation unfolded around Ryan’s use of an older smartphone model, the Samsung Galaxy 21. The crew dissected the financial and technological implications of maintaining outdated devices versus upgrading to newer models.
Matt Jones [43:14]: "How do you make it up? Ask Chip. He just did it."
Ryan Seacrest [43:05]: "Yes, yes. So if you drop it and crack it and break it again."
Shannon and Drew provided practical advice on evaluating insurance costs and the diminishing value of older technology, reinforcing the importance of making informed decisions regarding tech upgrades.
As the episode neared its end, Matt wrapped up the discussions by reiterating key points, expressing gratitude to listeners for their active participation, and previewing upcoming topics. The crew maintained an engaging and conversational tone throughout, ensuring a comprehensive and enjoyable listening experience for both regular fans and newcomers.
The episode concluded with a blend of humor and thoughtful insights, leaving listeners informed and entertained.
Matt Jones [03:26]: "Here's what's impressive in relief... give me a good 18 and 2/3."
Drew [05:04]: "There were fights."
