Matt Jones
Welcome everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Tuesday, June 3rd. I am Matt Jones here. It is a lovely day and you can give us a shot on the Clark's Puppet shop phone line 859-280-2287. A Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-774-5254 and this dish is sponsored by the TJ Smith Law Office called TJ will make them pay. Normally this is where I would say there are four people here on the show. But Shannon, we are all kind of in different places. And just a minute ago before you started you said Ryan and Drew are not set up. What does that mean?
Shannon
That means they are in a studio and they don't know how to set up a studio. And you know normally when we're at KS Bar they know how to set up that Comrex piece of equipment that we do the remotes on, but they don't know how to set up an actual board in a studio. They're in Lexington.
Matt Jones
Why did they go there and do it if they don't know how to set it up?
Shannon
That's a good, good question. I think it's a valid question. I don't know. It's a.
Matt Jones
See, this is Shannon. What we have to deal with on this show. I just want to be clear, like I. You. This is one thing I appreciate about you. You think about the logistics. I think that's a thing about you that I have always really admired, is that you understand and think about logistics.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I love those guys, but they don't ever think about the logistics. So they came into the studio. They know Billy's on vacation this week.
Shannon
Week.
Matt Jones
Right.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So Billy's on vacation, and he's the one that always sets it up. They didn't think about that, did they?
Shannon
I hear some heavy breathing on one of the lines. Are you guys there now?
Matt Jones
We.
Ryan Lemon
We've been here the whole time. We've been ready. We heard you guys ripping us from the.
Drew
This is. I feel attacked.
Shannon
You were not ready.
Ryan Lemon
We were ready. I heard the opening of the show.
Shannon
Back to Shannon.
Matt Jones
Shannon, this is on you.
Shannon
You. I don't owe anybody an apology. We were trying to get set up. We were on the air, and I was like, go to the access, too. And nobody was there. Gus was. You can ask us.
Drew
All right, Ryan, we don't need access to.
Shannon
It's either or.
Matt Jones
Shannon. Which one is it?
Shannon
I'm not taking.
Ryan Lemon
We got connected during the opening jingle.
Shannon
Connected Then when I told Matt, you weren't connected.
Matt Jones
So to be fair, you weren't ready when the show started. You were ready during the jingle.
Drew
What we've learned is what Billy means to this company because no one in this building knows how to run the board.
Ryan Lemon
Low key. How important Billy is to what we know.
Shannon
It's Gus who had to save it. Gus saved this whole show today.
Matt Jones
Can I just say something, Shannon?
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
They're just now learning that the person that connects them every time might be on vacation.
Shannon
That's right.
Matt Jones
And that might have been something they should have considered when they came in today.
Shannon
Come here, guys. Who's to blame? It's not me.
Matt Jones
Is it. Is it. Is it Shannon's fault? Or is it. Is it Ryan's fault? He probably could have called me a little earlier. Yeah. Okay.
Shannon
There we go.
Matt Jones
859-280-2287.
Shannon
Wow.
Matt Jones
Billy's fault.
Drew
We didn't even know Billy was going on vacation.
Ryan Lemon
Wow.
Matt Jones
Gets called to the principal's office. You probably could have called him. Just a little bit earlier.
Ryan Lemon
I didn't set up exactly. There was a button. The best guess. There's a button in there. Still not.
Matt Jones
Did you hear gas? Shannon, did you hear gas?
Ryan Lemon
We don't know what we're doing. We never had to do this before.
Matt Jones
Exactly.
Shannon
You co hosted the pre show with me yesterday.
Ryan Lemon
That's why we brought in the Comrex here. Just for this reason. Good planning on me and Drew's part.
Drew
It's all Billy's.
Shannon
Whose suggestion was that, by the way? Bringing the Comrex as a backup.
Ryan Lemon
That might have been me. That might have been.
Shannon
Thank you.
Matt Jones
There we go. All right, we'll stop here. We'll stop here.
Shannon
I'm gonna keep going.
Matt Jones
Word has been laid down by Gus whose fault it was. One point for Ryan Lemon. What? Negative one point.
Shannon
Yeah. Thank you.
Matt Jones
859-280-2287. A Vision auto glass text machine is 772-774-5254. Even with that rough start, I'm not going to let it get me down today, Ryan Lemon, because I had an enjoyable night thanks to something that I never thought I would ever say.
Ryan Lemon
Really? What is this?
Matt Jones
I want to thank the Murray State baseball team for. For an awesome evening. So yesterday, I think because I was a little bummed that Kentucky had blown their game, I just decided I'm going to be all in on Murray State today. I put. I pulled out my Murray state jaw one shoes. Yeah. Or jaw. Yes. Jaw one shoes. You know what I did, Drew? I walked 13 miles yesterday. 13 miles. Think about that. 13 miles. Because just I was walking around and had stuff to do, and I thought, if I'm going to do all this stuff, I'll do it via walking around 13 miles in my jaw one shoes. Came home, watched Murray State. They did get up 12 to three with three innings left. And then in the eighth inning, it was 12 to 11. And I thought I was looking at the Kentucky thing again, but they hung on and won. And I have to say to you, not just because of Murray State, although Murray State's going to get the credit for it today. I think I'm kind of in Ryan on college baseball. At least the college baseball tournament. The college baseball tournament to me is like perfect excitement. You have powerhouse teams, but they can lose to random programs. It's exciting. It's double elimination. So it feels like a fluke. Doesn't get you out. The crowds are into it, are great stories. By the time you get to the end of the four days of tournament, basically, they're pitching dudes who haven't even played all year, most of whom look scared to death at the end of the games. I love it. Ryan and Murray State last night culminated with what was probably the most college baseball I've ever watched in a four day period. And them winning and getting to go to the super regionals. They now play Duke, a team we all can collectively hate. I had a wonderful time watching it last night.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, we should all be all in on in Murray State. And you're right, they're just good enough. They can hit a big home run, get a big hit, but yet there's still errors, there's still wild pitches, there's still crazy pickoff attempts and stuff that happened. But it's the crowd. You said it, man. The crowds what make these, these college games what they are. So, you know, I, I originally committed to be a Murray State racer, so I kind of feel like I'm part of the Murray State.
Matt Jones
Well, Shannon, tell him to hang on. Just. He doesn't get to act like he plays.
Shannon
He's trying to claim Murray State.
Matt Jones
Claim this. They, they are the reason I'm into this. And that game last night was a perfect example in any other form of sports. Drew, when it's 12 to 3 going in the seventh inning, you just turn on and move on with your life. But in college baseball you can't because at the end of the series they're pitching a guy who probably pitched at Rock Castle county last year, right? And he gets in there and anything can happen. They can score eight runs in a heartbeat. The Ole Miss guys all look like they just came from the Sigma new house. And they're, they're, they're sad, they're crying at the end of the game. And it's, it's just a, it was just great emotion. My jaw. One Murray State shoes felt happiness after it was over. And now, Drew, I think we need to accomplish something today and I want to see if our audience can do it. I would like to get the Murray State coach on the show today. Would, I think it would be, that would be a cool thing to do. Drew, do you think we can do that?
Drew
Yeah, I'm sure they're just traveling back today, probably by bus. Probably just sitting there doing a bunch of nothing.
Matt Jones
They're probably on a bus. They're probably in like Jackson, Tennessee right now, right? Wouldn't that be where they are?
Drew
Yeah, I would think he would do have plenty of time to call in. In fact, I expect we can get this done.
Matt Jones
Okay, so this Shannon is what we want to do if you and I don't mean you. Shannon.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Anyone can get the Murray State baseball coach. First of all, what's his name? Ryan, you almost committed there. What's his name?
Ryan Lemon
Well, Johnny Reagan was the coach when I was there. He's long, long to Johnny Reagan.
Matt Jones
Do you know what. Do you know what the current coach's name is?
Ryan Lemon
I do not. I'm looking it up.
Drew
The Internet tells me Dan Skerka.
Matt Jones
Yes. Dan Skerka. That's right. Because I. Yes. Okay. He had that little kid running around the the field yesterday. His kid. And he had a skirk of jersey on Dan Skerka. If anyone out there and I know someone listening, I can find a way to have this happen. You can get it.
Ryan Lemon
I can get him.
Drew
How's already working the phones over here.
Matt Jones
Okay. I will forgive you for being 45 minutes late to the show today. If you can get Dan Skirt. How can you get Dan Skerka?
Ryan Lemon
I know two guys that do like the Murray State play by play and the podcast.
Matt Jones
Of course.
Ryan Lemon
He does Murray State sports.
Shannon
Yep. He's an encyclopedia of connections.
Matt Jones
Okay. The compliment I gave you about always being ready. Ryan's compliment. He knows everybody knows the guy that does the Murray State play by play. You know the guy that does the baseball.
Ryan Lemon
Jeff Bidwell, former Paducah sports anchor. And then Dave Winder is a former Kentucky. Wesley. Wesley Murray State player who's now in like their administrative offices. I can get. I can get one of those guys if I track him down.
Matt Jones
All right, look at this guy. That's a good way for him to win me back.
Shannon
That's right. When you over in 10 minutes.
Matt Jones
Yes. He can win me back in 10 minutes. He can always suck me back in. If Ryan. If Ryan can't do it, hopefully someone from the audience can. Drew, I know you watched a ton of this this weekend. Are you with me on the how the college baseball how. It's kind of really exciting this time of year.
Drew
Yeah. And I'm. I'm like you. I'm all in on the Racers last night. You know, I'll be honest, I don't know the roster from top to bottom. I'm still learning as a new Racers fan. But their cleanup batter comes up and they say from Madisonville North Hopkins, Jonathan Hogart. So I didn't even know I have a fellow maroon on. So that just makes me like them even more. Will be followed them at the next stage.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, when you get to the NCAA tournament in basketball yes. You get like a Jack Golke and those kind of guys and they're interesting stories. I know it was against us. You do get that. But there are not like a ton of those guys. Part of the reason we remember their names is because you might have one every two or three years. But Shannon, you played college baseball, right? I mean, it's clear, first of all, their rosters seem to never end and they have, they have 45 pitchers and they'll come in because of the format of that series. They'll come in having only pitched like three games all season. And then they'll be in, in the eighth inning in the most important game of the year. And you can literally see them trembling.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And then you get this moment where they take a guy who's going to be drafted in the major league draft like in two weeks and they strike them out. Murray State had a picture where the, where the announcer literally was like, he basically said he can't throw anything, but he's hoping right now. That's basically what he said. Drew, you saw it. He was like, basically like he can't, but he's hoping. And then he got him out. And I was rooting for that kid so much. Shannon, I think it's like probably what people older than us say college sports used to be like. I feel like you see it, right?
Shannon
Yeah. You've gotten some really cool moments in the tournament so far. And you're right, you know, you got to go deep into your bullpen and you got guys that haven't thrown much all season and all of a sudden now they're put into a pressure packed point of the game where they've got to go in and get somebody out. And it's a, it's a tough situation for somebody like that on the bench all year.
Matt Jones
So I know we have a lot of listeners who have connections to Murray State. Maybe you went there, maybe you, you know, somebody from your town has gone and played there. I don't think, you know, there are some Western fans drew that for whatever reason have a chip on their shoulder and won't root for Kentucky. I've never really understood that, but I feel like Murray State and Kentucky fans, there's no animosity there. Would you agree?
Drew
No, not at all. I'd say there's a lot of crossover fans in Western Kentucky that like both and never really have any head to head rivalries with them at any point. No losses. We remember. So why not root for him?
Matt Jones
Have we, have we ever lost to them? Ryan in basketball have we ever lost to Murray State?
Ryan Lemon
No. That's the big debate. We won't play them because they want to do a home and. Home, Remember, Murray State wants to do a home.
Matt Jones
No, but I mean, have we. Have we. We have played them at some point, I'm sure, haven't we? At some point.
Ryan Lemon
Man, I can't remember maybe before my time. They played. They play him in football a couple times at Kroger Field.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
They didn't play him in baseball.
Matt Jones
Have we ever played them in basketball?
Ryan Lemon
I don't remember ever playing Murray in basketball.
Matt Jones
You know, I don't. It feels like we had. We would have had to have played at some point, but I don't know that we have that. I mean, obviously we could look this up, but it's much better, Shannon, just to guess like this randomly.
Shannon
Right?
Matt Jones
I have. No. We were supposed to play him in the tournament and we lost to St. Peter's right, right.
Ryan Lemon
And then they. St. Peter's beat Murray the next game. But I don't think we've played Marion basketball, at least in the modern era.
Matt Jones
I don't. I can't remember it. So all the more reason. We don't have any reason to have any animosity towards football game was just last season. Yeah, it's still. Yeah, we played them a couple times in football. I think Max coached at Murray State, obviously for a year as I went.
Drew
To the Spanish or the foreign language festival there.
Matt Jones
That's also very important to the connection between the two schools.
Ryan Lemon
I. I have the SIDS phone number. I'm getting ready to call during the commercial break.
Matt Jones
All right, you take care of that. I'd like to talk to Dan Skerka, but I do want to thank Murray State baseball for bringing me back some, you know, some good post NCAA tournament joy with their win down in the regional last week. And you know, we're gonna. We're gonna pull them through against Duke this weekend. 859-280-2287. Text machine is 772-774-5254. Ryan Lemon
That's very true. It kind of was.
Matt Jones
That is. That is kind of true. You said you have definitive proof of something, Shannon.
Shannon
Oh, yeah. I've got the receipts. I've got the text messages that are time stamped on when I got.

What's the time stamp?

Okay. 1004. We're good. I don't know what that means. 1005 on two. Okay, so now I know where I can find you. And that's when I switched over to 2.

2. And the show starts at what time?
Shannon
1103.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. Drew can verify. When we put our headsets on, we were connected and could hear the jingle. So I texted Shannon, hey, we're good.
Shannon
The jingle, it's. It's Werewolves alone. It's a song.
Matt Jones
Yeah. When the jingle starts, that's when you're.
Ryan Lemon
Because we were in the other studio trying to set it up.
Matt Jones
Right. Right. Shannon.
Ryan Lemon
Shannon didn't know how to do it. He didn't know what to tell me to do.
Matt Jones
It's true.
Shannon
Yeah.
Drew
No help.
Shannon
Yeah. Let me do everything.
Matt Jones
You're responsible, but okay. Did we get the Murray State coach?
Ryan Lemon
I've made contact to the Sid. The coach. They're in. En route back. They're trying to say that tomorrow morning would be better, but I'm not doing tomorrow morning.
Matt Jones
I know they're in route back. This is a chance to get the entire Kentucky fan base on board. I would love to have him. We got other things to do tomorrow. This is a. If they don't want to do it, that's totally fine, but I don't. I mean, I know it's short notice, but this would be the chance, Sid. I mean, Murray State, there's a huge Kentucky fan base that would love to root for you. Your coach is very, very likable. I've heard the interview after he beat Ole Miss the first time and last night, this would be. Wouldn't you agree, Ryan? A good to. A good time to do it?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. You got to kind of strike while the iron's hot.
Matt Jones
You got to strike while it's hot. I'm excited about it right now, Shannon. Tomorrow we might. There might be a story about zipper merging and we move on.
Shannon
That's right. Yeah. I mean, right now is a great opportunity.
Matt Jones
Right now is A great time.
Shannon
Yep.
Matt Jones
Okay. So I'm sure tomorrow morning would be better but we have other things do tomorrow morning so hopefully just let us know if you think if you can. I. I totally understand. A little update. I. We made this announcement yesterday. So we are taking at KS Bar basically a two month break of June and July to, to do some renovations and to do some updates with the, with the restaurant. Just historically, you know, if you just look at the bar, here's the way the sports bar in Lexington works. At least an independently owned one like, like ourselves, June and July are slowest months in general. You go back to when we opened in 2018. It's always been like that. But also we just have decided we need to do some updates to the, to the place in general. We need to make it, you know, we need to renovate some stuff, especially in the back in the kitchen because we have a small kitchen and that can get crowded on big game days. We also need to do some menu changes, etc. So we're going to use this June and July to do sort of a refresher update. We'll open back in August, you know, hopefully a couple weeks, if not earlier, before this football season. So I want to thank all of you that wrote support yesterday and we're looking forward to being back open. But because of that, in June and July we're going to do some shows different places because we always usually do them at the bar. So one of the things we're going to do is we're going to have a contest starting next week where Ryan, we can. We will do the show at someone in Kentucky's house over the course of the summer. Now do you like that idea?
Ryan Lemon
On, on the outset, yes.
Matt Jones
Now I need more excitement about this idea. No, Drew, no. Before we start, I'm all in on.
Drew
Going to a random person's house. I expect you were part of our.
Matt Jones
Initial conversation about this. On the, on the, on the other show we're gonna do a. You can bring us to your house for a morning show. I'll explain how next week. But Drew, it will be a chance for us to go somewhere different over the course of the summer.
Drew
I'm all about it. I want to go into someone's home. I want to kick my shoes off, put my feet up on their couch. I want to drink their coffee, eat their bagels and just basically live in someone's residence for two hours while we do the show. I think that'd be fun to go to a stranger's house.
Matt Jones
WCW NITRO did this once. They had a contest, bring nitro to your house.
Shannon
Yeah. And WWF had a thing called in your house, which is what we're going to be doing basically.
Matt Jones
So we will do that next week, but because of that, but KS bar will be closed in June and July, move back in August. We're keeping for. Some people have asked because you've gotten to know our staff. We're keeping our managers on during this period and the folks that are, you know, we have a lot of people that work part time, they have other jobs or their students, etc. The handful of people that work regularly that we're helping them, they'll have other jobs within the restaurant community until we open back up. So, Ryan, Drew, I know you guys are like me, you're gonna miss everybody. But this is a best decision for the restaurant and also kind of trying to improve it. We need, as with everything, you need to kind of restart it a little bit. And Ryan, we're going to use this as our chance to do that.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, I think we'll come back better than ever. Ready for football season. Head on with, you know, some improvements and things we're going to do at the restaurant. Kind of gets us back on, on the road like old school KSR during the summer where we're on the road doing across the state shows. So that'll be kind of fun to get back to that a little bit.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So we're looking forward to it, but wanted to make that announcement also for the trivia finals. We will still do that. It's one of these days in June. I'll announce the date. We will still do it. It'll likely be at the bar, but I will announce it when it happens. 859-280-2287. I've had somebody send me Skirk his number. What do you think, Shannon? Should I just call him directly or do we have to go through these?
Shannon
I'm gonna send them a text, say, hey, do you want to come on ksr? Pretty self explanatory.
Matt Jones
I feel like that's. I feel like that's probably what you. What you ought to do. Drew, we didn't talk about this yesterday, but Carl Towns and the Knicks end up taking a loss to the Pacers. Carl did not play well in the final game and has taken a lot of criticism of people trying saying they need. He needs to get gone. You saw the final game. We talked about how much we enjoyed Carl getting good publicity. Did it make you sad to see in the final game in New York or excuse me, in Indiana that it didn't really go well at the end and all the stuff people have said since then.
Drew
Yeah, I'm actually quite surprised that Knicks fans soured on Carl so quickly. Overall, he had great run in the playoffs. Even his last game. I still think he had pretty big double double. Just didn't shoot it well. I've been seeing some things like Brunson and Cat can't play together. I'm like did, did we not just watch the run that they just went on? So yeah, I've got a little defensive. My guy Carl. It was one thing to, to make the zesty jokes. I might have scrolled through those and have laughs here and there, but they seem to really be upset with how I finished that series.
Matt Jones
I don't understand. There are only four team. There were only four teams left. The Knicks hadn't been there since 2000. They get there and then they lose and everybody wants to break the team up. That makes no sense to me. Were there the most success you've had in 25 years, you should want to continue it. But people have such short term thoughts and memories. It drives me nuts. We'll take a break. Barry backs ksr. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call tj. He'll make him pay.

Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-280-2287. Text Machine 772-774-5254. I sent a text message to the coach just like you suggested, Shannon. I thought, I felt, I felt very powerful when we sent that Dan Skerka. I'll let you know if he responds. Now you have a response. Ryan, what is your response?
Ryan Lemon
This is from the SID really prefer to not have him do an interview on the bus. It would work out for tomorrow's show. At some point that will work best for us.
Shannon
Okay, tell him to stop off at a Buc EE's. Get off the bus.
Ryan Lemon
Amen.
Matt Jones
First of all, I think the bus. Wouldn't the bus be cool, Drew?
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Matt Jones
Like they're on the bus. Like, I think that's even cooler than a regular interview. They're on the bus. We can hear the excitement from the victory.
Drew
Can even pass the phone maybe. Maybe the star players sitting next to him pass the phone over. Let him get a moment on the radio.
Matt Jones
I think that's exciting. The bus. That would be so cool.
Ryan Lemon
You're getting the moment. You know, you're all caught up in the moment.
Drew
Could it be that they're partying too hard on the bus.
Matt Jones
Okay. I could. I could excuse that if it's. That the party's too hard. You think the party's too hard at 10:30 in the morning?
Ryan Lemon
9:30 central time. Maybe they're still asleep.
Drew
Just one at Ole Miss.
Matt Jones
And then like where do we think they are on the bus. How do you get from Oxford to Murray? What's the.
Drew
Pretty short drive actually.
Matt Jones
Is it not very far?
Drew
No. I know a lot of people from my side of the state that went to Ole Miss. It's a lot closer.
Matt Jones
I'm trying to think. You go through Memphis, right? You would go. How do you get from Memphis to Murray? Do you go through Nashville or do you go a different way?
Drew
I don't think you would go through Memphis. Maybe just through Nashville. No, not even really through Nashville.
Matt Jones
Here you have Memphis. I get. I mean there is a map. Shit. Google.
Drew
Google says it's a three hour and 40 minute drive. Just skirt past Memphis.
Matt Jones
Alright, so I guess Ryan, we. I mean if they just said no, I guess we shouldn't write again, right?
Ryan Lemon
Well, maybe. Maybe he'll answer your text. Maybe coming a personal text from you. Maybe you'll convince him to go ahead and do it.
Matt Jones
Yeah. It looks like you go through Memphis, then you would go through Jackson like we said. Martin, Tennessee is that. I assume that's where UT Martin is.
Ryan Lemon
Right across the state line. Yep. Because you went to Murray State before they went way through Martin.
Matt Jones
You'd go through Jackson, then Paris, Tennessee. Did we have a UK player from Paris, Tennessee? Ryan? I feel like I know that from somewhere.
Ryan Lemon
I feel like you're right. Somebody came from Paris, Tennessee.
Matt Jones
Who did we have from Paris, Tennessee? I feel like we did. And then you go up through. Through Murray.
Drew
So they should be home pretty soon. He just calls when he gets home. It's a short trip.
Matt Jones
It would have been cool. But I'm not going to press it. We tried. I mean I still will wish you luck. I'm still gonna wear these shoes, Shannon. But it did. I will say this is deflated my excitement a little bit.
Shannon
Yeah. Could have had a chance to talk to the entire state of Kentucky.
Matt Jones
That would have been cool.
Shannon
Can't do it on the bus though.
Matt Jones
The bus would have been much, much cooler than anything else. We have never. 859-280-2287 couple open lines. Give us a shout. We'd love to talk to you. We have never played Murray State, Ryan, in basketball, ever. Which is kind of amazing. That's kind of amazing that it's in the state and we have never played them.
Ryan Lemon
Somebody mentioned to be playing in a benefit game recent, not too long ago when Cal was here and like for a. Found for a fundraiser or something. But I don't remember that either.
Matt Jones
What do you mean a benefit game?
Ryan Lemon
A fundraiser game. I don't remember that. Somebody text.
Matt Jones
I have no memory of that. Drew, do you have a memory?
Drew
No, I don't know what that would be.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I. I don't know that I believe that happened. I'll tell you another thing. I don't believe that happened. Louisville had a recruit, Drew, that went on field of 68. What's the kids names?
Shannon
Oh, fru is his last name.
Matt Jones
Yeah, Trey Mitchell's not the recruit, he's the guy that played here. But there was a guy there. FRU goes on field of 68 and in the course of the conversation says Trey Mitchell told him that. That Louisville had the best fans in the country and that Louisville was the loudest place to play basketball. I don't believe Trey Mitchell said that. First of all, I don't think he would say that over Kentucky. Secondly, when Trey was here, Louisville was terrible. That was when Kenny Payne was here. So there were like 40 people at the games. Do you believe that Trey Mitchell told this random kid going to Louisville that Louisville had the best fans?
Drew
I do not believe this whatsoever. 1 Trey Mitchell wouldn't do that to us. I don't believe that at all. I think this is the case. This guy fru, he was playing over in Germany. I think maybe he had a conversation with Trey Mitchell. Trey was talking about Kentucky and he just associated Louisville as being in Kentucky with Kentucky fans. And it just got kind of combined. There maybe a slight miscommunication that that FRU took the wrong direction.
Matt Jones
That's also this kids in Germany.
Drew
Yes, Ananda.
Matt Jones
Fru. Okay. Why you could see that. Shannon, if you're in Germany, like you would just. I mean you barely even know what the states in Germany like. How many cities in Germany, Shannon, can you name just off the top of your head?
Shannon
Munich.
Matt Jones
Munich. All right, what else?
Shannon
It's probably about it.
Matt Jones
Can you get five?
Shannon
No capital.
Matt Jones
You can get the capital.
Ryan Lemon
Berlin.
Matt Jones
Berlin. Okay, that's two. All right, can we collectively get five in Germany?
Drew
Hamburg. Shout out.
Ryan Lemon
Hamburg.
Matt Jones
Three like our Hamburg, part of Lexington. Anybody else? Frankfurt. Frankfurt. Now we're up to four. Can we get five?
Ryan Lemon
I'm out.
Matt Jones
Going once, going to.
Shannon
Pretty impressive. I don't care what you say.
Matt Jones
What about where all the American military is we have a ton of American military in one city. Like, if you go to this city, I went to this city, there are probably 50,000Americans walking around because we have a military base there. You may know Stuttgart. Stuttgart has. Has like, a massive military base base. Anyway, if you didn't get it, if you didn't know any of the places, like, in Kentucky, you would think Louisville and Kentucky are the same place.
Shannon
Yeah, I could see that. And Trey Mitchell has already responded on Instagram saying that's what he say. That's no Cap. Is that what he said? No, no, no. Here it is. You know that's Cap. I think that means, you know that's a lie.
Drew
Yeah. No, Cap would mean he's telling the truth.
Shannon
Okay.
Matt Jones
Yeah, yeah.
Shannon
You know. You know, K, N, O, W know that's Cap.
Matt Jones
So he wrote, you know that's Cap.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Which means, you know, that's a lot.
Shannon
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
Because when Trey Mitchell was here and that's when Kenny was there, and they.
Matt Jones
That was when Kenny Payne was there, they had no one at their games. Like, no one at their games. Can't be true. Who's up first?
Shannon
Let's go to Bubba.
Matt Jones
Bubba. How are you, Bubba?
Drew
I just got called in yesterday about.
Matt Jones
The Tommy Bannon no Hitter uk. Hey, I know you guys just mentioned about having a. At someone's house to show. At someone's house. Yes. We'll have a contest or something. Yeah, okay. Well, I've got a lot of sports memorabilia, and I think it'd be a great place at my base. Yeah, we'll have a contest, Bubba. I mean, I. I'm sure your place would be great, but we'll have some kind of contest or something to make. I mean, I don't. I. It's. It's. It's not about the. The memorabilia so much. It's just going to be like a cool. Like, we'll see where we end up going. And. And you should enter it. And who knows, maybe we'll be there with your memorabilia. But. But, hey. Okay. But then again, I would like you to come look at this, Some of.
Drew
This stuff, because I've got stuff signed.
Matt Jones
By Wawa Jones and Ralph Beard and.
Drew
A lot of old Kentucky memorabilia stuff.
Matt Jones
That you might be interested in looking at anyway. So I appreciate it. Just. Yeah, just enter the contest and we'll. We'll do it, Bubba. Thank you. Thank you very much. One person writes, matt, I hope Bob in Jamestown wins the contest.
Ryan Lemon
I kind of do, too.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew
On the porch.
Matt Jones
If we know I'm not getting anywhere near that porch. I feel like that porch, Shannon, is. That is at least the side of misdemeanors.
Shannon
Oh, yeah. Things have gone down on that porch. Unspeakable things.
Ryan Lemon
We've done the show at people's houses. We did Josephine's house that one time.
Matt Jones
Yeah. The woman in Louisville's house.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Matt Jones
Yeah. No, I mean, it's. I think it would be. I think it would be fun. I'd love to do it in like a town or a county that we haven't been to before. I think that would be nice. But we'll have sort of a scientific. We'll have a scientific, you know, thing. Drew, did you see the video of the world chess champion, what's his name? Magnus.
Drew
Magnus, yeah. Carlson.
Matt Jones
Magnus Carlson, the number one chess player in the world. He lost to like an 18 year old. He lost to a kid and he kind of lost his temper when he lost. He like slammed his hand down against the board. He did shake hands and then he walked off in a huff. It's a great video. I mean, obviously I don't know anything about chess to know how he lost to this kid, but what did you think of the video?
Drew
Sore loser. I mean, let's be honest. A guy named Magnus that looks like that probably would have predicted that's how he would react. But I like that the. The kid and beat him. Just calm and cool and collected, just kind of stands up, keeps a straight face and walks with the scene behind him. Like a little walk off. But I guess Magnus isn't used to losing those. Being the best in the world.
Matt Jones
Obviously don't know a lot about chess. Was this kid good or was this just a random kid? Do we know?
Shannon
I would say if he made it to the championship, he'd have to be good to get there, but that's probably true.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but.
Drew
But I think he was the youngest ever to win whatever that was, whatever.
Matt Jones
Championship that is they said had not lost in three years. And then he loses to this. To this kid. He looks. I feel like, to be really good at chess. Shannon, don't you think you. You have to be a little bit off?
Shannon
Yeah, probably. So spending a lot of time playing chess, you probably don't get out and make a lot of friends unless you're, you know, chess buddies, I guess.
Matt Jones
I read a book this year called. What's it called? Inter Mezzo. It was by Sally Rooney. It's like a fiction book and it's very good. And it's a. One of the. It's got two main characters and one of the main characters is a lawyer, and one of the main characters is a chess player. And the chess player is like, they give him have, like, a heart of gold, but he's a little bit, like, socially awkward. And I would think, Ryan, if you're gonna sit, you're to be really good at chess, you're gonna have to stare at that chess board or that chess screen, like, all the time. And so I feel like you can't help but be a little awkward if you do that, right?
Ryan Lemon
I would think so. And they memorize all these moon. You know, I watch Queen's Gambit, so I'm kind of got behind the scenes on with the chess world, which was.
Matt Jones
Set in Lexington, isn't it?
Ryan Lemon
Absolutely. It was like the guy wrote it was from Lexington. But they. They memorize all these moves, like, possible center. They have them all memorized in their head. So Magnus obviously must have been caught off guard by this young guy. Maybe he underestimated his opponent a little bit.
Matt Jones
One of the cool things when you go to New York City that you can see is you can go Shannon, by these parks, and there'll be chessboards set up, and there'll be older men, usually African American men, who sit there and they just challenge whoever comes up to chess, and they just beat them, like, all the time. They just sit there waiting for people to come challenge them. And people will come up thinking they're going to beat them. And these guys, these just. These guys who are just sitting there in the park will just, like, take on all comers in chess. And I always think that's kind of cool.
Shannon
You should just walk up to one, maybe later today, sit down, and see how long you can last against a professional.
Matt Jones
Do you even know how. Do you know how to play loosely?
Shannon
I mean, not.
Matt Jones
I mean, I know how the moves.
Shannon
Go, but I would not have no strategy.
Matt Jones

Cancel CT mobile.com Welcome back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-280-2287 Text Machine. 772-774-5254. Drew, there's people telling me we played Murray State in an untelevised exhibition game for tornado relief. Is that I. Was that Murray or Morehead.
Ryan Lemon
Says people have text me that too, but it seems like to me it was Morehead. Did we play Morehead in a relief game?
Drew
I don't remember that. Kentucky playing Murray State.
Ryan Lemon
What was the game where the. The coal miner set in the front row?
Drew
That was the blue white game in eastern Kentucky.
Matt Jones
That was the blue white game. They played that in Pikeville.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, that's right.
Matt Jones
Didn't they play that in Pikeville? I think they did at the Pikeville arena.
Drew
Definitely.
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, I don't. I guess it's possible they played a game against Murray State. They're saying it was the bam fox monkey. I just have.
Drew
I have no memory of that. If that.
Matt Jones
If that's true. I have absolutely no memory of that whatsoever. So I mean, I guess it's possible, but. 859-280-22871, person writes. Matt, what are you hearing about UK football season tickets. Are you hearing any numbers? No. And that. That's part of the worry for me, Ryan, about the football season tickets is they haven't announced any numbers that I've heard. I haven't heard. I mean, normally at this time they'll say, you know, season tickets are sold out, or this game is sold out. I mean, you have Texas coming to town, you have Florida coming to town, you have Tennessee coming to town, you have big games coming. And I've heard absolutely nothing about any of those games even be sold out, much less season tickets. Yeah, there are no official numbers, but I'm just. I'm just anecdotally kind of expecting it to be very, very low.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. My fear is that those games you just talked about will be full, but they'll be mainly full with opposing teams, fans in our stadium. I think Drew and I talked about the Texas game. That's during Keeneland. All those folks probably coming to Lexington for the first time. They'll probably flood Lexington, buy those tickets, go out to Keeneland that weekend. So it's going to be tough, dude. You walk in, there's a lot of orange in there for Tennessee, Texas, and maybe even Florida.
Drew
The Herald Leader had something at the April season ticket deadline. I think it said they were down like 13.12-13ish percent a couple months ago, which.
Matt Jones
Well, that would be not as bad as I would have thought, honestly. Yeah, it's only. If it's only 13 or 12%. I mean, that's not good, but it would be better than I thought. I mean, maybe it's just anecdotally, Drew, that people, when they renew, don't tell you, and when they don't renew, they do. But, I mean, I just. I don't want to say the person's name because they may not want me to do that, but I have a very close friend who's had season tickets for as long as I've known him. So we're talking 20 years who didn't renew. And I mean, that's renewing even through the Joker years. And I mean, that's. I feel like that's a very bad sign.
Drew
I know a lot of people like that, too. Heck, we heard from Jerry.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew
Just recently. I would have probably guessed more than 13%. But at the same time, if you're a business and your Stock goes down 13%, that's pretty big deal. And people are going to be upset with you and need some good pr. So it's not a great decline.
Matt Jones
No. And at a time we need More revenue. Right. Like, that's at a time that we're adding $22 million to our budget for nil. So I mean, I guess that's a good point. If you're. I don't know what the football season tickets bring in, but let's say they bring in $30 million. If all of a sudden you take three, you know, 3.9% or, you know, $3.9 million out of that budget, you got to make it up somewhere. So I guess, Ryan, I mean, you connect with a lot of football fans probably even more than I do.
Ryan Lemon
What are you, what are you hearing right now? I think it is. They're kind of holding off. I just kind of hope that as the season gets closer, they'll kind of get back on board and get in on the excitement, like go ahead and get those tickets and go to the games. You know, maybe as this, as we, the summer progresses, we'll start hearing maybe some more positive things about that. I talked to a football guy today. He gave me a little, some positive news to make you feel a little better maybe about football. He said the offensive line will be better than people think. Like that kid from New Mexico State, I guess is legit. Like, he's really good farmers back at guard. The kid, a kid from Alabama, the other guard. So they, they're thinking, well, I guess that's good, Shane.
Matt Jones
It just depends on what people think.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
How bad.
Shannon
Expectation level of.
Matt Jones
Bad. Yeah, you know, that's true. Yeah. Who's up next?
Shannon
Kb.
Matt Jones
Kb. How are you, kb? Hey, what's going on, guys? Hey, real quick, Matt, did you say you went to Kaiser Slaughter while he was in Germany? I went to. What did you go to Kaiser Slaughtering or where'd you go out in Germany talking about the military people. I said Stuttgart.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, okay, never mind, never mind.
Matt Jones
I'm here at Kaiser Slot and so I don't know if you. I missed that conversation. You're in Germany right now? Yeah, yeah, I'm right here. I'm on Ramstein, so. All right, well, guys, God bless you, sir. I appreciate it. No, I got a quick question. I'm about to go on like a week long road trip and I, I know y' all are. Y' all go on plenty of those. So y' all are like the experts. Random question, but what is what yalls favorite road trip snacks? I guess what I'm torn between, but I didn't know what y' all. What was it? What were the pretzels we got in Iowa? What were those things dots. Remember that?
Ryan Lemon
Dots.
Matt Jones
Oh, dots.
Ryan Lemon
So good.
Matt Jones
That's the best thing I've gotten on a road trip. Those dots. Pretzels. Shannon, you got something. That was the one for me.
Shannon
How about some mingy beef jerky? I've always got some of that. Beef jerky's good.
Matt Jones
Gummy clusters.
Shannon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
We'll take a break. Be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio.
Podcast Summary: KSR – Hour 1 (June 3, 2025)
Podcast Information:
The episode begins with host Matt Jones addressing unforeseen technical issues that disrupted the usual four-person setup of the show. Shannon, the co-host, explains that Ryan and Drew, intended remote participants from Lexington, were unable to properly set up their studio equipment.
The crew humorously navigates the situation, highlighting Shannon's logistical strengths contrasted with Ryan and Drew's inexperience with studio setups.
Despite the rocky start, Matt shifts the focus to a positive highlight: the recent victory of the Murray State baseball team. Matt shares his enthusiasm for college baseball, emphasizing the unpredictability and excitement of the NCAA tournament.
Ryan Lemon echoes these sentiments, appreciating the energy of the games and the engaging crowd dynamics.
Drew expresses his growing fandom for the Racers, citing personal connections and player performance as factors enhancing his support.
The hosts discuss the possibility of inviting Murray State's baseball coach, Dan Skerka, to the show. Despite initial setbacks and logistical challenges, they remain optimistic about securing an interview.
However, Skerka expresses a preference to avoid interviews during transit, prompting the hosts to consider alternative arrangements.
Matt announces that KS Bar, the usual venue for their shows, will undergo a two-month renovation period in June and July. This strategic decision aligns with historical low-traffic months and aims to enhance the restaurant’s facilities and menu.
The crew outlines plans to continue shows at different locations during the closure and introduces a summer contest for listeners to host the show from their homes.
The conversation shifts to concerns about Kentucky (UK) football season ticket sales. Matt notes a lack of announced numbers and expresses skepticism about the current sales trajectory.
Ryan responds with cautious optimism, hoping that excitement will build as the season approaches.
Drew adds that while there was a reported decline, it wasn't as steep as expected but still poses financial challenges.
The hosts engage with listeners, including a call from Bubba discussing sports memorabilia and participating in the upcoming home-show contest. Interactive segments like these bolster community involvement.
A segment delves into the world of chess, highlighting World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen’s surprising defeat by an 18-year-old. The hosts analyze Carlsen's reaction and the implications for his reputation.
Shannon humorously suggests that engaging with professional chess players requires social skills that might be lacking due to the solitary nature of the game.
In a lighter moment towards the end, the hosts discuss favorite snacks for road trips, sharing personal preferences and nostalgic connections to specific treats.
This segment adds a relatable and humorous touch to the episode, engaging listeners with everyday topics.
Despite initial technical hiccups, the KSR crew delivers a dynamic and engaging episode filled with sports insights, listener interactions, and informative discussions.
