Comedyoff broadway this is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Shannon the Dude
All right, good morning. Welcome ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, grandpa's and grandmas, aunts and uncles and lots of grandpas and grandmas today because we are live in a retirement community today. We'll talk about that when Matt gets here. No, they're shaking their head no, it's not a retirement community. Well, that's kind of how you won the right to host this show, by going as a retirement community. So Ryan Lemon here, Matt Jones will be here just in a couple minutes. He may have just pulled up, I think right now. So Shannon the dude and I here as always, the tech sports rail sponsored by the TJ Smith law office called tj. What happens, Shannon?
Ryan Lemon
He'll make them pay.
Shannon the Dude
He'll make them pay. And of course we've got our country lot. Country boy guys are here today. They brought the new Shannon the Dude Brew Can. Shannon.
Ryan Lemon
I can't wait to see that.
Shannon the Dude
What an awesome label. That's an awesome label they've got on Shannon the Dudes Brew. And so that'll be broadcast all across the country here in just a short time. And Kroger's gonna have it here in a little bit. Was that Matt? No, it wasn't Matt. Okay, so, so I gotta know.
Ryan Lemon
I gotta know like the story. First of all, I'm getting a lot of feedback on the. Can you move the microphone there?
Shannon the Dude
Well, we did put it back here, Mario. Let's try that. Okay, we did.
Ryan Lemon
But I gotta know like what's going on? Like, why is it Matt there? What happened?
Shannon the Dude
I, I'm not gonna say. I'm gonna let him tell that story. I, I don't think it's my place responsibility to say what is, what's going on?
Ryan Lemon
Are you gonna be hiding underneath kitchen table here in a minute?
Shannon the Dude
I might, I might. But, but you know, we had a contest last week. Matt had the idea we're going to take KSR to people's houses, their private residence. So Shannon, we had people call in and Laura Knight called in representing the community here. I won't call a retirement community. The community. And we picked her. She. I think the final two were her and a horse farm in Paris. And we picked her to come and have the show here at her house today.
Ryan Lemon
Wait a minute. Now you say you can't call it retirement community. I think that was literally her words. A retire.
Shannon the Dude
100%. That was her words. And that's why, I think why we picked it. So. But it is we. And I think I can, you know, normally we have been. I say we got a lot of grandpas and grandmas in here and they are rocking Shannon. They've been here since early this morning. They probably got up at 4 o' clock this morning to get ready. Yeah, a lot of blue and white on like we're going to tailgate at a football game. But this will be a lot of fun today as we begin our adventure this summer. I guess we're gonna do this all summer, just try to go to people's houses all across the state.
Ryan Lemon
Now as you were driving through that community today, did you have an eye out for maybe any pineapples on front porches? Maybe some that were upside down? Did you see anything like that as you were driving through the neighborhood?
Shannon the Dude
You said that because they heard your discussion on the pre show and they weren't happy. This is not an upside pineapple community.
Ryan Lemon
I'm not here to make people happy. I mean, I'm just saying what I've seen, what I've heard.
Shannon the Dude
I think you and Billy were implying this was an upside down pineapple community. And it is not.
Ryan Lemon
Okay, what about.
Shannon the Dude
It's a very nice community. We haven't really disclosed where it is, but it's. If you're in the Lexington area, you kind of know the upscale retirement community. And this is where we are. And. And they have packed it in here today. So I think. I think it'll be a lot of fun once we get going. Now, of course, Laura had to kind of twist the truth a little bit until we were going to a retirement home. It's a home in a retirement center community.
Ryan Lemon
Okay, are we sure? Because I don't think they even like the word retirement being used at all.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah, I think we're getting some side, side glances on that word. But we're going to go with it right now for our first show. They've got finger foods. They've got. Laura made homemade cookies. Shannon, that are awesome. We've got ham sandwiches. We've got all kind of goodies and stuff. And country boys here with Shannon. The dude will be a lot of fun today. 859-280-2287. That's our Clark's Puppet Shop phone number, the Avision Glass text machine. Matt will be here with that 277-277-4-5254 to get a lot of calls and comments today because I think we could have a fun show. You know, we've talked about Vince Merrill, though, the last two days, Shannon. Vince has been the number one topic. And everywhere you go outside of this radio show, that's all any man was talking about. His Vince Merrill.
Ryan Lemon
Well, it was officially announced just this morning. I don't know if you saw that, but it's three year deal just became official. And he says his goal is to win a national championship, which, I mean, I guess you have to say that, right? I mean, why else would you take the job? Of course, the goal is national champion. But just to hear and read those words coming from Vince Merrow. Trying to win a national championship at Louisville is just. It's a tough pill to swallow.
Shannon the Dude
Well, let's look at it from both sides. If you're looking at Kentucky's season and schedule, they're not going to be making the playoffs. You're looking at Louisville's season and schedule. They got a chance to maybe make the playoffs. You got to get in the playoffs to win a national championship. So if he's thinking that route, I Can you understand why maybe he's. His thinking is that way?
Ryan Lemon
Well, I mean, yeah, I mean if you're saying who has a better chance at winning a national championship, of course it's Louisville. But again though, it's your bitter rival. You're leaving straight from Kentucky to go to Louisville. And you know if you're going to do that, you have to be ready for the fan base to react the way that they have. I don't know how else you could. Now we have had some callers that were kind of like, well, I understand, but no, I don't understand ever going from Kentucky straight to Louisville. So I'm not going to be like Billy and wish them luck professionally. No, I hope he loses every game at level. So I'm not going to be one of these people that's cheering for Vince. Is that Matt?
Shannon the Dude
Who's here?
Matt Jones
Hey there. Sorry about that. And now we're here. How's everybody doing?
Shannon the Dude
You're doing great.
Matt Jones
Well, good. Sorry, can anybody hear me right now? Okay, gotcha. Well, thank you all very much. I ended up in the wrong place. I was out there all the way in Hamburg at 9:50. I made record time to get back here. Ryan Lemon.
Shannon the Dude
Well, you said you thought you'd make it by showtime. Like there is no way. But you almost did. I don't know how you pulled that off.
Matt Jones
First of all, thank you guys very much for coming. Look at this great crowd here this morning. And thank you for. For. Give me the names of the people.
Shannon the Dude
That are host Judd and Laura Knight are host.
Matt Jones
Judd and Laura, Nice to see you right there.
Shannon the Dude
Who called in?
Matt Jones
Well, so I have to tell you this. This was been. This been a stressful morning. Not only did I realize I was in the wrong place, but on my sprint here, I started getting calls. I think the Vince Louisville news. Is it official? Yes, it's going to be official here momentarily. It is official now.
Shannon the Dude
At least a statement. So three year deal.
Matt Jones
Three year deal being paid essentially the same, maybe a little bit more money than he was going to make here. So now we don't have to wonder why it's been. Why it's been not said yet. I would say to you as soon as I saw that it was going to be official, a little sad. Are you sad about it?
Shannon the Dude
I'm absolutely sad about it. We all like Vince. We like him as a person, like him as a coach and to have him depart us. I kind of feel a little betrayed, I think a little bit.
Matt Jones
I do think he'll regret it.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
That's just my prediction. I wish him the best, but I think he'll regret it. I think that's one of these things that when you. So I, I got a little more insight on this morning.
Shannon the Dude
Okay.
Matt Jones
Maybe talk to some sources around the UK football program. You know, we've said that some of Vince's role had been taken away. I think that was true. I don't think it all went to Eddie grand as we, as we kind of heard. Yeah, I think a lot of the final say on players went to the coordinators. And this is basically what I was told. Used to be when you could get a 25 person high school class, they would say to Vince, hey, you go get us 10 or 11 guys from Ohio and Kentucky, you decide and we'll take them. And the good thing was sometimes he really hit right. He got Benny Snell.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
He got Lynn Bowden, he got Mike Edwards, he got like Jake CJ Conrad. I mean there's, especially in those earlier, there's 15, 20 guys he got that were really good, but there were also duds. Right. And the idea was, hey, Vince, you can get 10 or 11 guys. If a few of them are duds, that's okay because that's your group. Well, in today's portal world, you can't really do that. You can't just, you don't go get 25 high school guys anymore. You got to get guys in the portal, etc. And so the amount of guys he could go get was more limited. And all the guys that were gonna, he was gonna get were gonna have to be filtered through the coordinators. They basically couldn't afford the bus anymore. You can't like take a high school kid that's not gonna play.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And put them in. And I think Vince was, was frustrated by that. And then you got a three year deal for $1.3 million. I think UK football has taken the view, and we should talk about this, that if we're going to be paying these players $20.5 million, we can't give these coaches these salaries anymore. You know, you can't get three years, $1.3 million a year for a tight end coach because we got to share this money with the players. I predicted to you. I don't think head coaches are going to see as much money as they used to. So I think a lot of that probably went into it. And Louisville decided to make that investment. And that's how we get where we.
Shannon the Dude
Are, you know, with the numbers that come out today. And you kind of hinted that the other day it really wasn't about money. You thought he was going to maybe get about the same. And now apparently, yeah, I don't think.
Matt Jones
He got more money. I think it was about power. Power makes it sound like he's being like. Like it's Game of Thrones. I don't. I mean, well, it is Game of Thrones a little bit, but it's. I don't think it's like, you know, power like, er, I'm going to rule the world. It's just the ability. They used to say to Vince, we trust you, Vince. Here's 10. 10 scholarships. You figure out who's taken. And it worked out. A lot of times last couple years, as Adam Luckett and Nick Roush have noted, it didn't work out quite as well. Some of the. Some of what he brought didn't work quite as well. And so they said, okay, maybe that 10 is now five. And everybody's got to approve who you get. And, you know, it's like anything in life when you're used to a certain amount of freedom and then it's taken away from you, you resented. And I think that was part of it. I've heard that Mark and Vince have talked now. They're still going to be friends. You know, I have a hard time believing they're going to be quite as good a friend again. I mean, if Shannon goes to just the Cutler, I'm going to be a little bit frustrated by it. But, you know, do you think you could be as good of friends with a person who left you in that scenario?
Shannon the Dude
I could be friends, but professionally I am not going to be close to him at all.
Matt Jones
You know, you could still be friends.
Shannon the Dude
I think.
Matt Jones
You know, I think if I. Shannon, should we test this theory here?
Shannon the Dude
Yeah, test it.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
If I said to you, I love you, but I'm replacing you on this show with someone else from the Lexington TV community.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
But we're still going to be great friends.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
You think you still would be great friends with me?
Shannon the Dude
Not great friends. I think I could be friends. It might be the guy you replaced me with, I have an issue with.
Matt Jones
I go, why would you be mad at them?
Shannon the Dude
I don't know. He's sitting in my chair as my chair. Get out of my chair.
Matt Jones
Why would you get mad at the new husband?
Shannon the Dude
I. Well, of course I'm going to get mad at the new Husband more than the. You're my wife. You. I still kind of like you. I don't like the new husband.
Matt Jones
That's an interesting theory.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
You're much more mad at the person who didn't do anything to you.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
That other person is just looking for a job than the person who sort of betrayed you.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah. Well, I feel like there's still some love there.
Matt Jones
I'm not going to call the name, but Shannon, you know this as well. Ryan had someone that he was not nearly as close to as he is us. Just simply disagree with you on a business transaction once.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
That was 20 years ago and you still haven't gotten over it.
Shannon the Dude
That was a little betrayal. I think that was betrayal.
Matt Jones
But you weren't even friends with that person.
Shannon the Dude
No. But you know, I think professionally, when you get betrayed like that, I'm done. Done with you.
Matt Jones
I don't understand his reasoning, Shannon.
Ryan Lemon
I don't either. It's Ryan. You just have to kind of go along with it. Yeah.
Matt Jones
So anyway, I. The. The claim from the UK side, there's no hard feelings. It's all okay. I just. I have a hard time. I don't know how you can grow up with a guy. You bring him to his job, he gets this huge amount of prominence and then he goes to your rival. That's. And it's going to put a ton of pressure on you. I don't know how that doesn't at least frustrate you a little bit.
Shannon the Dude
I just thought of this question, you know, Coach Dupes let Eddie Grant go. Brought him back. Wolford left. Brought him back. Is there ever a scenario where Stoops would bring Vince?
Ryan Lemon
Probably Stoops ain't gonna be there long enough.
Matt Jones
I didn't know if he'd be there. I think the first thing is getting through the next year or two.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Then you can talk about whether or.
Ryan Lemon
Not he may be there in three years, but he won't be there in four or five, six years.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Well, we will find out. 859-280-2287. We are here. Should we. Are we allowed to say where we are? I'm not gonna give your address, but the name of the community.
Shannon the Dude
I. I didn't.
Matt Jones
Okay, so we're not gonna give it. Country boy is here.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Look at you bringing the beer here for these folks.
Shannon the Dude
The new Shannon the Dude Brew logo label, they just debuted it today.
Matt Jones
That looks like the label of a. Oh, wait a minute. That's you on the can.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
It's awesome. I can't wait to actually put it.
Shannon the Dude
Out there for people to see rescue wrestling.
Ryan Lemon
There's. There's three parts to it really is really cool.
Matt Jones
Now I wish I had a beer. 859-280-2287 Clark. Did you do all the Clark's pump and shop and all that?
Shannon the Dude
We hit most of them, yeah.
Matt Jones

It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live. We are kind of off man of war. We won't give specific details although I did hear from one of the people here maybe Mark Stoops lives not very far from here. So maybe we can maybe when this is over we can like sneak on the property or something a little little.
Shannon the Dude
Five iron shot away. We could probably get.
Matt Jones
Oh you think it's a five iron.
Shannon the Dude
When you get on that side of the country who's five iron yours for you?
Matt Jones
Yeah I was about to say for you it's at least a couple dry a driver 3 would let me read you real quick Vince Merrow statement. I'm not read all of it but starts right here. I love the state of Kentucky. This has become my home. The opportunity to take on this new and exciting role in the state where I have so many incredible relationships. Something I couldn't pass up. Also want to thank UK Mark Stoops, the administration and fans. I have lifelong friendships and I have every desire to keep those relationships. That's why I wanted to stay in the state. I love you vids but like they're not going to be the same. I mean people are still going to like him but it's not going to be I mean he's not going to get walk into Jeff Ruby's and get a. Well he might in Louisville. Yes but in Lexington he's not going to get a standing ovation.
Shannon the Dude
I think we you know that's all good Vince if you're coaching somewhere else but you're coaching at our rival the team we want to beat their brains.
Matt Jones
859-280-2287 before we go the phones couple other little things non Vince related and I'm sure some people will want to talk about them on the phone as well. UK it's announced they don't get NC State in the UK or SEC ACC challenge. They get North Carolina.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Do you like that more or less?
Shannon the Dude
I like it more.
Matt Jones
And it's in rup. So North Carolina's coming to RUP for the first time. Trying to think when the last time they've been here. I mean are we talking like is it the Anthony Davis game? Is that the last time Caroline's been. Because we played them a lot but we played him in the CBS Classic.
Shannon the Dude
See, you may be right about that. They. They took them off the schedule when we got that CBS Classic thing going.
Matt Jones
Him it might be. I mean we played them every other year. I know we played them in walls year in 2010 and we played him in Davis's year in 2012. Did we play him with the Twins and all that in 2014?
Shannon the Dude
I don't, I don't think we did.
Matt Jones
So I think the last time we. So I mean it's been. It's been 14. It'll be 14 years. Well, I guess they're playing them in the fall, so be 15, 13 years. Rather play them than NC State who by the way NC State loaded up and was. Actually NC State's probably going to be better than North Carolina this year. But what do you think?
Shannon the Dude
But there's something about when North Carolina comes in to play Kentucky. That game is just special. It just feels different. I remember I went to a couple of those games and it just feels something special might happen. So even though North Carolina is not as good as North Carolina of old, it's still that ugly baby blue North Carolina coming out there on the.
Matt Jones
This is a huge year for Hubert Davis too.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I mean if they don't have a good year, he might be replaced. They got a good recruiting class, but they're still ranked in like the 20s. They spent. There's some reports they spent more money on the portal than anybody and they're still ranked in the 20s. But you're right, I mean there's something about that jersey. And think about how many amazing Kentucky Carolina games have been in Rupp Arena.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Okay. Anthony Davis block.
Shannon the Dude
Yes.
Matt Jones
John Wall gets introduced to the world in that game. Tayshawn Prince's five threes is in that game at Rupp Arena. Gerald Fitch I think hit a shot at the buzzer or very close to the buzzer to win there in Rupp Arena. Remember that those, those home and home series back four that I can think of in RUP that were great games. Are there any others that you. That you can think of?
Shannon the Dude
I can't remember, you know, anything Finishes like that.
Matt Jones
Those I mean those are four like legendary with just in the last 25 years.
Shannon the Dude
If we talk about road games, the game where Malik, Monk and Los Angeles.
Matt Jones
Well yeah there great ones. I mean we've played them a lot in great games.
Shannon the Dude
We have.
Matt Jones
We beat them once when I was in law school down in Chapel Hill I was at that game that was the Jason Parker. Yeah game. But in Rupp there's been a cool environment. So that means you get returned Rupp this year North Carolina and Indiana, it's like the 80s are back the old.
Shannon the Dude
Tubby schedule where all back to back Saturdays you'd get Louisville, North Carolina, Indiana pretty much So I, I'm excited about even like I said, even though North Carolina is going to be a great team, it's still North Carolina.
Matt Jones
Shannon, you prefer North Carolina or a. Will Wade led NC State this year that loaded up on player probably the best NC State roster. I know he went to Final Four a couple of years ago but probably the best NC State roster in 20 years.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. Even though NC State might be better than North Carolina this year. I like North Carolina just because of the blue blood aspect. Kentucky. North Carolina just feels right.
Matt Jones
So Kentucky schedule if you're talking powerhouse teams, Kentucky's non conference schedule is going to include Michigan State, North Carolina, Indiana, Louisville, Gonzaga.
Shannon the Dude
Wow.
Matt Jones
And who else am I missing?
Shannon the Dude
St. John's St. John's yeah.
Matt Jones
So that's in the non conference. That's six really good games. You've got a couple of traditional programs. You got Rick Patino, you got Mark Few, you got Tom Izzo. I mean this is. I don't think this is the hardest non conference we've ever had but it might have as much marquee star power as any that we've ever had.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah. Those days of getting the School of the Blind and Little Sisters of the Poor come in at Rubber.
Matt Jones
Say that about Little Sisters of the Poor.
Shannon the Dude
Well, they're not a very good basketball team.
Matt Jones
Is that even really a place?
Shannon the Dude
Well, they're not a very good team.
Matt Jones
But I don't think it's also real.
Shannon the Dude
But go ahead but so you know the home season ticket holders were.
Matt Jones
Well, they only, they only get two games. I mean they only get North Carolina.
Shannon the Dude
Indiana, but still having those two games is better than Little Sisters of the.
Matt Jones
Poor coming in and then in conference play. The sec I don't think it's going to be nearly as good. I mean I think it's going to be good but I, I don't. It's. It's not going to be nearly as good. You're going to have. Florida's going to be really good, but just go look at those top teams. I think Alabama's worse.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Auburn's worse. Tennessee's worse. I would say Florida is a little worse, but they're still going to be really good. But I think, I think, you know, a lot, a lot of these teams. Texas may be the only team of the top teams that's going to be better. I think in general, we. The SEC is there for the taking this year.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah. People still tooting on the Arkansas horn think that they're going to be good again this year.
Matt Jones
I mean, they might be a little better, but I don't think they're going to be great.
Shannon the Dude
If I was ranking them right now, I put Kentucky second.
Matt Jones
I think Kentucky. If I would go into the preseason, the SEC and put Florida one in US too. Yeah, that's. That, that's what I think.
Shannon the Dude
That's fair. That's just being a UK station. I think that's fair. You look at the talent this year.
Matt Jones
Ye. So Kentucky and Carolina, a little bit of a surprise because we're scheduled to play Carolina next year in the Champions Classic, which means we will not return the favor. We will not be going to Chapel Hill. They have to come here and there's no return back.
Shannon the Dude
So does that mean though, we could possibly go to Cameron?
Matt Jones
Well, I mean, would you like that?
Shannon the Dude
Yes. Just once in our career.
Matt Jones
But see, I think I could be wrong about this. I think there's. I think our years are alternated. So I think like Duke's playing at home this year, which means I don't think Duke will play at home next year, which makes me wonder if they'll ever align it so that we can play them. So somebody had to play because, like next year they'll go on the road and we'll be going on the road. So I wonder if maybe that's. That's a problem. Who's up first? Shannon.
Ryan Lemon
Let's go to Corey.
Matt Jones
Corey, go ahead. Corey.
Shannon the Dude
Hey, what's going on, guys there?
Matt Jones
I'm driving the country boy.
Shannon the Dude
I'm driving the country boy truck down.
H
To Franklin today to sell some country boy beer. So I figured give them a shout out.
Matt Jones
But it's very nice that country. I didn't know you were going to be here. It is nice country boy to be here. They have been. They're great. They come to all of our stuff. It's very nice. And this woman has had at least six. So go ahead.
H
Anyway, so we were talking about schedules just now. The SEC must hate money to give the Kentucky Arkansas schedule now one game a year.
Shannon the Dude
That's ridiculous.
Matt Jones
Great point. Yeah. That was announced two days ago. I appreciate the call, Keen. Arkansas only playing once. Appreciate the call. That's. That's odd to me though. Yeah, I would think. I mean the way the schedule is now, you play basically all the teams once except what, three teams?
Shannon the Dude
Four. Is it three or four you played? We played twice last year.
Matt Jones
I can't remember. But we play Tennessee twice, we play Vandy twice and then one other one and they didn't give us Arkansas again.
Shannon the Dude
How could it not be Arkansas? I mean, you think the sec, they want these high profile games. How could it not be Kentucky and Arkansas twice a year?
Matt Jones
I kind of feel like it's going to be Florida again.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
You know, last year we only played Florida once and it was a great game.
Shannon the Dude
It was.
Matt Jones
And we won. We didn't have to go down there with Florida being the best team and us maybe being the second best team. I'm just guessing. I think they gave us that slot to, to, to play Florida twice. Just a guess though. It's not out yet. So. So we don't know. 859-280-2287. Shannon, this is a cooled can. We'll be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call tj. He'll make him pay.
Ryan Lemon
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio. Here live from Laura and Judd's house. That's right, who. They created quite a scene here. I had no idea what I was walking into. I didn't know if there would be. I didn't know if there'd be just them. A lot of people and they created quite a. Got cookies, country boy. Got Mario running around.
Shannon the Dude
They made ham sandwiches.
Matt Jones
Oh, ham sandwiches.
Shannon the Dude
Yes. That perked you up, didn't it?
Matt Jones
Yeah. See, this is gonna be a high standard for everybody else we visit. This is the first one we visit this summer. This is going to be a high standard. That's the Beach Boys, Shannon. Brian Wilson.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Passed away at 82 years old. We have Beach Boy fans in here. I see a lot of people shaking their hand heads, you know, I know the Beach Boys from this kind of music. But later on in their career they, they did different kinds, didn't they, Shannon? Like more serious stuff.
Ryan Lemon
Yep, yep. This is kind of the psychedelic part of their career. I feel like every band back then went through A psychedelic phase. This was.
Matt Jones
Kenny Rogers even did that.
Ryan Lemon
That's right. Yeah.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
But. But legendary singer, you know, of course they. They kind of created the sub genre for a rock. At least I think that's right. Yeah. So I saw a little bit of the Beach Boys, I guess, like whatever version exists now at Bourbon and Beyond last year, even though it wasn't really that. The Beach Boys. But you know, one of those bands that always puts you in a good mood. If I'm going on vacation, I'm at the beach, I'm putting on some Beach Boys.
Matt Jones
Well, a lot of big Brian Wilson, one of those names you just know from music. Also for people of. Of our generation. Ananda. Is that how you say her name? I think Louis. The MTV vj.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
That was on Total Request Live when we were in college. She was only 52, passed away of breast cancer, which I thought was very sad. You know, her picture popped up Shannon on my feed and I went, I know that woman.
Ryan Lemon
Same thing.
Matt Jones
How do I know that woman? And then they. I saw who it was and it made me sad, apparently. Said she only had discovered she had it very recently and then passed away. Very sad. 52 years old.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. The. The list of VJs out there that you can remember, it's like you see their face but you're like, I don't know where I'm from.
Matt Jones
You got Carson Daly.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Adam Curry.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Your guy Jesse. You know that would do the. That guy.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Matt Jones
What's. What was the name of the. Matt Penfield.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. I'm buddies with him. Yeah.
Matt Jones
Oh, oh, you're buddies with him.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, yeah. We hang out. We hang out every year at Bourbon and Beyond and Louder Than Life.
Matt Jones
All right, well, who knew, man? Who knew how much shade it was friends with everybody. 828-02287 I do want to say what I've been trying to tell this story for the last few days and we haven't gotten. All right, I want to tell you if I should be offended or if I should like consider this a compliment.
Shannon the Dude
You tell me, Shannon. I are be great judges of this.
Matt Jones
The ladies of ksl. Oh, by the way, Morehead State's baseball coach is going to come on here.
Shannon the Dude
Murray State.
Matt Jones
Him too. Murray State's baseball coach is going to come on here at 11:30. Dan Skerka. Yes. And get us ready for the College World Series. But the ladies of ksr. Facebook.
Shannon the Dude
Yes.
Matt Jones
I'm a huge fan. Are you ladies on it? You should be get on Facebook and ask to be on it, there's, like. I think they have 2,000 some members, all women. And Jolie posted this on her. On. On the page.
Shannon the Dude
Okay.
Matt Jones
She showed a picture of a. Of a. I guess it's a dog. Or is it a cat? Well, what do you think?
Shannon the Dude
That's a dog.
Matt Jones
Well, but she said cat. Anyway, it doesn't matter. Point is. Yeah, that's a dog. This is Henry Harper.
Shannon the Dude
Okay.
Matt Jones
I named Harper for Matt.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Very nice.
Shannon the Dude
Very nice.
Matt Jones
Very nice.
Shannon the Dude
Very nice.
Matt Jones
That's very nice. But then the next sentence, it's epileptic and judgmental, just like Matt. So that's why I got the middle name.
Shannon the Dude
Well, pretty accurate.
Matt Jones
So do we call that a compliment to name your dog after me for being, quote, epileptic and judging?
Ryan Lemon
You could have just stopped at the first part or. Yeah, you know, just say I named it.
Matt Jones
I don't stop at epileptic.
Richard Karn
No, no, no, no, no.
Ryan Lemon
Not that part. Just saying I named it after you.
Matt Jones
Named it after Matt. I thought. I think that would have been very nice. But when they threw in that other sentence, I didn't know whether or not I could take that sentence as a compliment or not.
Shannon the Dude
Shane, I think we got a judge. I think it's a fair adaptation.
Matt Jones
Why? Why is it fair? I'm not judgmental.
Shannon the Dude
Let's just say you're a bad person.
Ryan Lemon
No.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Ryan Lemon
If it were Ryan who was late, you would have definitely been judging him today.
Matt Jones
That's okay. See, I knew Shannon was gonna bring up me being late. I knew. I knew he was gonna do. I knew Ryan wouldn't because he's been late. I knew Shannon would bring it up, but it was only because I got the wrong address. But compliment or not a compliment, Definitely not a compliment. But definitely not a compliment.
Shannon the Dude
Fair.
Matt Jones
Okay, Shannon, compliment or not, again, it.
Ryan Lemon
Was a compliment at first, but then when you throw in the other two parts. No, now it's not a compliment. You don't need the reason why you named it after you. Just say, I named a dog after you. That's enough. You don't have to say Joey.
Matt Jones
I. I appreciate you naming it after me. Yeah, it did feel like that was a little bit of a backhanded slide at the end, but I'll. I'll. I'll. I will take it. One person writes, matt, I don't care how good of friends we were. If you left me for my least favorite person, and I assume that Louisville is Mark Stoops least favorite person, I would not be able to get over it. That's kind of how. I mean that. I. I would get over it, but I would be upset and I think.
Shannon the Dude
You should be upset. Stoops and Brahm, though, they have a good relationship, right? Don't they?
Matt Jones
Yeah, but it doesn't matter if the person your wife leaves you for you were friends with. That doesn't make it better.
Shannon the Dude
No, I'm just trying to justify.
Ryan Lemon
Makes it worse.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Makes it. Makes it worse.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Shannon the Dude
Just by Stoops ever wants to egg if he's ever going to get over it.
Matt Jones
Well, he'll get over it, but I just don't think their relationship. I don't care what they say. They can both say it'll be the same. It won't be the same. And I know this. And. And I. I have not talked to Vince on the phone yet. I texted with him a couple times. I'll tell. It will. He will regret this. He will. Whether he ever says it, I don't know, but he'll regret it. He will. Because it's not going to be the same at Louisville. Louisville is not the same as Kentucky. They're just not. They're better than us at football right now, but as terms of. As a place. You know this. They don't care as much as we do. They don't. The city doesn't revolve around the sport like it does here. It's not going to be the same. And Vince loves the glory.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah, he does.
Matt Jones
And I'm not criticizing him for that, but he loves walking in the KS Bar. And when he comes in, he'd take a lap through the place because he likes it. Like he likes that. And. And that won't happen at Louisville. I mean, at Kentucky, Vince was the star of the football program. Would you agree with that?
Shannon the Dude
He actually was.
Matt Jones
He was the star. He was a bigger star than Mark.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
It will not be like that at Louisville. The Brahms are infinitely bigger stars than every. The Brahms grew up there. There's been. There were like nine of them. So, like, it's. It's gonna be. It's a different thing.
Shannon the Dude
Vince, I think someday would like to be a head coach. Does him becoming a general manager put him in a bit of.
Matt Jones
No, it makes you. It makes you less likely to be coach. You're not. He's no longer going to be on the field.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Right. I mean, he might go to practice, but that's not his job anymore.
Shannon the Dude
I wonder if he. If they thought that he thought that would help him get a head job.
Matt Jones
He could have had a head job before, I think he would like to get a head job, like at Kentucky, but you're not going to get your first coach. He's never even been a coordinator. They're not going to, like, uplift him from tight end coach to head coach. He could have gotten a job at Bowling Green or Kent State, but he didn't want to do that. So it is what it is.
Shannon the Dude
I just worry about him, man. Like you said, I think he's going to regret.
Matt Jones
I think he's going to regret it. I think he'll have a great time initially.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah. Because they're going to win. They're going to probably have a good season.
Matt Jones
Let me give you an example what they're going to do because they already did this yesterday. What was what? This guy tweeted out. Baxley rjr.
Shannon the Dude
Who?
Matt Jones
I don't know who that is, but he's a very prominent. Like, he's been online. He's a prominent Louisville fan over the years. He tweeted something. He said, big dog texting Matt Jones will have to stop once he officially begins that this gig. I assume he has been communicated. That has been communicated to him and he understands why. I'm gonna give you a little secret that won't stop. That's just Vince, like, that's part of what comes with it. And you guys are gonna always worry that I'm gonna have an end on your thing. By the way, y' all got many coaches that text me. I got a text from one this morning, so you just need that. Ship has sailed if you are trying to stop your coaches from texting me. But he's always going to have one foot in Lexington. He just is. He loves this place too much.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah, you guys will text. He likes you. You guys will continue.
Matt Jones
But it's not just gonna be me. It's gonna be other people. He's got. I mean, there's a prominent journalist who basically wrote a script yesterday on Twitter that was Vince basically wrote it. Right. Like a Kentucky. Like, that's what it is.
Shannon the Dude
You know, maybe not on Louisville, Kentucky game week. Maybe there won't be much communication. But outside of that, of course there's going to be.
Matt Jones
And I would just say to Louisville, there are no coaches that I know of that are friends with Louisville media. No, but there's a lot of Louisville, like, Louisville coaches. I mean, remember who broke the Katina Powell? Yeah, like, who broke that? You guys were going to have to forfeit your title was me. Like, you got you. You all still have leaky ships. They're nice but it's just what it is.
Shannon the Dude
So now that the announcement has become official, don't you think Mark Stoops need to say. He needs to say something today.
Matt Jones
Well, maybe, but soon.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Whether it's today or Friday or next week, he needs. He can't go silent until SEC media days. Who's up next?
Ryan Lemon
Judy.
Matt Jones
Judy, I got about a minute. Go ahead. Hey, Matt. I do put my bid in to host you guys for your show this summer. Well, Judy, first of all, we're not doing that right now. We'll probably do it either tomorrow or Monday, and then you can put your bid in yesterday. I heard you say it was today. I know. I'll try again. Okay. Thank you. I got it. I got it.
Shannon the Dude
I understand. Sorry.
Matt Jones
Appreciate it. Well, we won't need a speaker if we go to Judy's house.
Shannon the Dude
Judy about blew our equipment.

It is Kentucky Sports Radio 859280 2287. So this is this Morning at 8:00 o' clock. Tyler Childers released his first single from his new album. It's going to come out July 25th. This is not a new song. This is Nose on the Grindstone, which is the very first song Shannon I ever heard Tyler play in Amsterdam. I was just talking to a pilot who has flown back and forth to Amsterdam. Very first time I heard I walked into the bar and heard him sing. He was singing this song and I went, dude, who's that?
Shannon the Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And now fast forward eight years later and he's releasing it, releasing a new album. Sounds like it's all going to be songs that are old that he's just never released. Which makes me very excited because there's a lot of those that I like. Including like that Tulsa turnaround song. I love that he put that out. Tennessee Blues would be a great Oneida. So we'll see. But it comes. But this is the only one that they've played.
Shannon the Dude
There's something about this song. It's very. It's haunting and his voice just makes it resonate. It's just.
Matt Jones
And everybody in Kentucky that likes Tyler knows it.
Unknown
This song.
Shannon the Dude
Oh, absolutely.
Matt Jones
Like if. When. When he plays it r the crowd sings this. But I do wonder if the people in the rest of the country know it like we do. And they will here soon when this comes out.
Shannon the Dude
My 27 year old son. This is his favorite Tyler Childer song. It.
Matt Jones
It's one of mine probably because it was the first one I heard, so. But Rick Rubin, Shannon is going to be producing that album. He did albums with like jay Z and Dr. Dre and he's now also doing Tyler Child. How about that?
Ryan Lemon
He's done. Yeah. Albums all across, like every genre rock.
Matt Jones
He's done everything, every kind of music. Now you. Somebody wrote me and you said you knew this. Brian Wilson wrote songs with Charles Manson for the Beach Boys.
Ryan Lemon
There were a couple of songs that Charles Manson wrote with the Beach Boys and I think there was a dispute as to like who actually wrote the songs. If I were the Beach Boys, I'd say, Charles, you could have a man Just don't kill me songs. Man, that's wild.
Matt Jones
I didn't know that. All right, I have a quick story before we go to the phone and ask your opinion.
Shannon the Dude
All right.
Matt Jones
Do you know the story about the Red Sox player who claimed his dad played for the Yankees? Have you read this?
Shannon the Dude
No.
Matt Jones
So Hunter Dobbins, I don't know who that is, but apparently he's a Red Sox player. He's been talking a lot of trash for the. Against the.
Shannon the Dude
Okay.
Matt Jones
And the Red Sox play. Have been playing the Yankees. And he said, we're going to beat the Yankees. My dad played for the Yankees, but I would never play for the Yankees. And. And the Yankees traded him. And it taught me that to hate the Yankees. So he's made this whole narrative around I hate the Yankees because my dad was there and they disrespected him. New York Post does the story. Last night he. His dad never played.
Shannon the Dude
Oh no.
Matt Jones
His dad was never drafted by the Yankees. He never played in the minors. This, this seems like an odd thing to lie about because it's pretty easy to find out he played for the Diamondbacks for like a year and a half but never played for the Yankees. And now Yankees fans are just letting him Have.
Shannon the Dude
Oh, yeah.
Matt Jones
That he was like, you know, you had to lie that your dad played for the Yankees. So they asked him about it yesterday. He was like. He basically threw his dad under the bus. He basically was like, well, my dad told me he played for the Yankees.
Shannon the Dude
Which may be true.
Matt Jones
So my. Well, that's what I was going to ask you. Do you believe the son made it up to create this trash talking narrative or do you believe that dad lied to him and said I played for the Yankees when he really only played in the minor leagues for the Diamondbacks?
Shannon the Dude
I'm going to lean that way. You know, there's a lot of dads.
Matt Jones
And this is in 1996. Like, this isn't that long ago. It wasn't like he was playing in the 30s. Like, this is like recent.
Shannon the Dude
A lot of dads in this room, myself included, we often like to brag on ourselves a little bit in front of our boys, trying to make ourselves look a little bigger than we actually are. I can see dad saying, I play for the Diamondbacks. And yeah, I also played for the Yankees, but they traded me.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Shannon, dad made it up, right? And now son has to pay for the sins of the father, right?
Ryan Lemon
I'm sure dad made it up. But I mean, you could go back and research this. You could find out, you could verify whether or not your dad actually did play for Yankees. Like you said, it wasn't that long ago.
Matt Jones
There are records of it. Yeah, I feel like the dad is to boy, the dad has to like, protect his son and go, hey, son, this whole trash talking was actually the Diamondbacks I played for.
Ryan Lemon
If your dad, like, my dad played for the Yankees, I would want to go look it up. Like, I know that kids aren't impressed by their parents, but come on, your dad played for the Yankees. You didn't ever go back and look up his stats.
Matt Jones
But you would also, like, you wouldn't assume your dad was locked, right? No, but I see it like, my mom worked for the Harrison County Commonwealth Attorney, or so she says. But I didn't. I didn't feel like I needed to go to the Harrison County Prosecutor's office to research. To research it.
Shannon the Dude
You believe her at her word.
Matt Jones
And I'm sure I hope she's telling the truth because I always say that when we go to Cynthiana.
Shannon the Dude
Karen Blondell.
Matt Jones
What if I never lived there?
Shannon the Dude
I bet you did. Oh, we've had three people said they used to babysit you when you were in Cynthiana.
Matt Jones
There's a lot of them. Yeah, yeah. I don't think that many people babysitted.
Shannon the Dude
Me, but for the, the kid, I think he just takes dad at his word and he just got caught now.
Matt Jones
That he's become enemy number one for the Yankees fans because of it. Who's next? Shannon.
Ryan Lemon
All right, let's go to Steve.
Matt Jones
Steve. How are you, Steve?
H
Doing great, guys. Thanks for having me on. First of all, you, you missed one. V.J. kennedy.
Matt Jones
Oh, Kennedy. She's on like Fox News now or something, right? Isn't she like a right wing pundit at this point? But she used to be. Am I right about that?
H
She's a libertarian. I don' if you call right, yeah.
Matt Jones
I'd call that right. But she, but yeah, she was on MTV back in the day. You're right.
H
And she's on the Gutfeld show a lot. So, yeah. The second thing is, y' all, hey, guys, I love Gutfeld. Dennis, Dennis Wilson is the one that got the song from Manson.
Matt Jones
Who's Dennis? Brian's brother.
H
Dennis Wilson's brother. He was the brother. He was in the Beach Boys. He died in a surfing accident and he's the one that gave him the song. But he hung out with Manson and all the women because, you know, that was a good situation for him. But yeah, but he's the one who presented the song and they, they put it on their album.
Matt Jones
All right, well, I appreciate, appreciate the call. There you go. I didn't know the history of Charles Bateson. That feels like something you would know a lot about.
Shannon the Dude
The. I read that book Helter Skelter. I was in college and it scared me to death. I would not go down to my basement.
Matt Jones
You haven't read any books. You've read Helter Skelter?
Shannon the Dude
Helter Skelt.
Matt Jones
I do it all mine comp for those, the things that you like, spend your time reading.
Shannon the Dude
I, it's, I, I had laundry down in the basement in my dorm. I would not go down and get it from reading that book. I was so scared.
Matt Jones
I, I, I don't know the book. What does laundry have to do with it?
Shannon the Dude
Well, no, it was just down in the basement. I didn't go down in the basement.
Matt Jones
I was in college. You wouldn't go in the basement? No.
Shannon the Dude
I made my roommate get up and we took our baseball bats with us. Go down to the basement? Yes. Scared the crap out of me.
Matt Jones
So you let me go back. So second, you read a book?
Shannon the Dude
Yes.
Matt Jones
And it scared you so much?
Shannon the Dude
Yes.
Matt Jones
When you were in college?
Shannon the Dude
College, yes.
Matt Jones
In the dorm that you wouldn't go to the dorm without a baseball bat.
Shannon the Dude
And my roommate took him with me. In his baseball bat.
Matt Jones
You are so strange.
Shannon the Dude
Oh, it scared me to death, Shannon.
Matt Jones
Is that not weird?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, I.
Matt Jones
That story. If you tell me that story, I would understand. If you were seven.
Shannon the Dude
No, I was like, 20. Helter Skelter. Charles Manson. That's some freak. Why did you. We had to do it for a class. It was like, a class thing. I would never read it.
Matt Jones
What class was that?
Shannon the Dude
I was. I used to be a criminal justice major.
Matt Jones
Oh, that's right.
Shannon the Dude
I was gonna be a Kentucky State.
Matt Jones
You were gonna, like, solve cereal.
Shannon the Dude
There we go. Yeah.
Matt Jones
I don't know what happened.
Shannon the Dude
Change my mind right there.
Matt Jones
Exactly. My mom says I did work for the Harrison County Commonwealth. All right, mom, you better.
Ryan Lemon
Sure you did.
Matt Jones
If Bourbon county starts making fun of me about it, we'll take a break. Come back hour number two. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
