Matt Jones
Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky sports radio here, Thursday, June 26th. I'm Matt Jones at the Little Crooked Creek Safari in Shelby County, Kentucky, in between Lawrenceburg and Shelbyville, where there are llamas, zebras. You say an aardvark was in there? An aardvark and all kinds of stuff. And you can give us a shout out. The Clark's Puppet Shop phone line, 859-280-2287. A Vision Auto Glass text machine, 772-774-5254. In this edition, sponsored by the TJ Smith Law Office. If you call TJ I'll make them pay. Are you asleep? You since you walked, got here, sunglasses on, haven't spoken a word. You all right there, Drew?
Drew Franklin
Or we're outside waiting for the show. What's up?
Matt Jones
All right. Just didn't.
Drew Franklin
Mario, we're talking ball over here. The whole time, I've just been listening.
Matt Jones
I'm just making sure. You all right? KSR hat on, Ryan. And we are here. You've already put the shirt on?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
For the Little Crooked Creek Safari. Ready to go.
Ryan Lemond
This is such a cool place and probably place 99% of the people don't even know exist. It is a hidden gem out here, right where Anderson County, Shelby county, and Spencer county all meet. It's where. There's where this place is.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, you got to want to find it because, like, it's. You're. You're in. You're back. You're back here. I say in the hills, but it's not really in the hills, but it looks like what it would. What it looks like when you go back through eastern Kentucky, but you're not farming. This is less than an hour from Lexington. All kinds of animals you can look on. You said you have a Facebook page, right? The Little Crooked Creek Safari. They've invited us out for the ksr Goes around the states on the blue on the. What's the tour?
Ryan Lemond
Kentucky Department of Highway Safety.
Matt Jones
Department of Highway Safety summer tour.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Drew, there is a zebra just a few feet from you.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I was actually just thinking. I think this is my first career zebra sighting. I've never really been a zoo guy. I don't know where else I would have run into a zebra. So I think whatever this fella's name is right here is my first zebra. Might even get a photo later.
Matt Jones
Well, I mean, if you've never been to a zoo, I think it's probably safe to say that you have.
Drew Franklin
I can't think of where I cross paths with one. So this is an exciting day for me.
Matt Jones
I think camel.
Drew Franklin
I think I've seen a camel before.
Matt Jones
Where have you seen a Campbell.
Drew Franklin
Church play? I'm pretty sure we, like, rented a camel at Christmas, something like that. Me and Cam. I've crossed paths with camels before.
Matt Jones
You're a Methodist, right?
Drew Franklin
I grew up going to the First Presbyterian church in Madisonville, Kentucky.
Matt Jones
So the First Presbyterian church has the money for.
Drew Franklin
Well, we would go over to the First Baptist church.
Matt Jones
Oh, that's where the rich guys were.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, they. I'm pretty sure they had camels as part of their Christmas.
Matt Jones
Those Baptists, all that money, but zebras.
Drew Franklin
This is my first one exciting day.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it is very nice. Beautiful out here. It's gonna be a little hot, but that's okay because we got. We're under a tent, which was very nice of them to set up. And, Ryan, are you gonna go have some fun with these animals?
Ryan Lemond
I am, yeah. Mario already took a little tour, but Eric Swisher, he owns it out here. He said he's had it, the farm, for, like, 18 years, but it's only been open to the public for the last two years. He's getting big crowds on the weekends that come and see him. They got kangaroos. They got a sloth in there. They had a baby. Camel was talking to us right before you got here. So it's been kind of fun.
Matt Jones
Baby camel was talking to.
Ryan Lemond
He was not happy with us being in his area. Like, we're by the word. All the babies are. The baby zebra, baby camel, baby. What is that a llama out there?
Matt Jones
That's a llama baby cow. Yeah. Well, I've seen a couple of those, but some of these other things I haven't seen. They have what they say, a sloth.
Ryan Lemond
It's in a room where they have to keep it. Like, what do you say, 88°. Two sloths.
Matt Jones
Two sloths. Well, that's good. They can be friends. I think that's important. Well, it's. I appreciate you. These folks having us out, they won the contest, and we are here in Shelby County. We're also. In a couple hours, we're going to leave here to go to the GSF test kitchen to finalize the new menu items. I hope you have saved room in your belly for all the food we're going to eat this afternoon.
Ryan Lemond
Man, it's tough. They brought out donuts. We've got homemade chocolate chip cookies, and.
Matt Jones
I know you could. You're going to eat those, too.
Ryan Lemond
I'M going to have to. I got to eat those chocolate chip cookies. Look at. They're staring me right.
Matt Jones
Really good. Yeah. But you're excited for our afternoon of food. I remember when we did this last time. You didn't need to eat for, like, two days.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. It was easily. Easily the most full I've ever been in my entire life. I almost got a hotel in Shelbyville instead of driving back to Lexington. I was in actual pain. I ate so much food. And the nice people there, they warned me when they started. They're like, just take a bite and don't eat the whole menu item, because you're going to eat 60 things. I was eating two of everything. Couldn't help myself.
Matt Jones
Yeah. So we have. We have narrowed our new menu down to, like, 20 items, but we have different versions of all 20. And so we're all supposed to taste different versions of all 20. We know we're keeping the wings and the cheese logs and a couple things exactly the same, but there are some things, like, we're getting, like, a new burger, and we're getting new taco thing, and we're getting new. Just various stuff. Getting new boneless wings. And. And they're giving us multiple versions cooked different ways of all of them. And so you got to try them all. Or how you gonna know which one's better?
Ryan Lemond
You have to try one bite of each thing they give to you to try to determine which one you like the best.
Matt Jones
But see, but that's the kicker.
Drew Franklin
I was eating every version of each.
Matt Jones
Exactly. Because when you like. No, no. You're supposed to eat every version of everything because, like, one bite.
Ryan Lemond
One bite.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but the thing is, when it's good, you don't want to just eat one bite. You're like, this is good. I'd like multiple bites. And you. That's Mario. Be careful. This is beginning. You don't want to make that beginners. Like, for instance, we're getting new potato wedges. They apparently have eight different types of potato wedges. You got to be careful, or you're going to end up with more potato wedges than your body can.
Ryan Lemond
So it's not just one bite. It's a little bite. Take a little bite of each thing they put in front.
Matt Jones
That's. It's easier said than done, but I am looking forward to it, and it's going to be nice to kind of finalize the. The. The remodeled KSBAR menu.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Cleared my schedule. These shorts have an elastic weight waistband. I'm ready to get in the lab. And lock in, make some bad decisions.
Matt Jones
All right, so the. The draft was last night. Usually one of my favorite nights of the year. Now the first time for Kentucky that there hasn't been a first round draft pick since 2009. Also the first time for John Caliperi. No draft pick since 2009. So at least when it comes to.
Drew Franklin
His ISO seven longer streak for him since.
Matt Jones
Oh, seven.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So he's worse for him. Yeah. John Shire was the coach that. That had the biggest, you know, scene there. So let's just go over some of the things. I enjoy the draft less for the basketball and more for the. The pageantry and all that's happened. Cooper flag went first. That was boring.
Drew Franklin
This suit was boring. Just him. Everything about him was boring.
Matt Jones
Even the lead up, he's boring. Dylan Harper. I had a trend. I looked at all the players. Five different players who are black on black on black, which is a lot of all black, which is what I wore to the barstool party. So I feel like I'm kind of fitting in with all these NBA players. But five different guys, all black.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. You know, biggest night of your life. Black slimming. I assume they're all in pretty good shape, but they could have let themselves go in the lead up.
Matt Jones
Chains. Big chains. Like a lot of big chains. I did. I think the chains are back in. I've watched, so it's maybe time for us to get one.
Drew Franklin
I think Jeremiah Fears already spent all of his money on his chain.
Matt Jones
It is weird. A chain and a tie is an odd. Is an odd dichotomy, but a lot of chains.
Ryan Lemond
You were kind of a trendsetter wearing your all black out in Arizona. But now you gotta start wearing the big time.
Matt Jones
You get some bling. I need some VJ. Edgecombe went to 76ers. Then we started with Con Knipple. This is where I thought things started getting interesting. He went forth to Charlotte. He has five brothers. There are five male nipples and they.
Ryan Lemond
A lot of nipples.
Matt Jones
And the five of them each have a name that starts with a K. So their parents named all of them with a K. I'm gonna go ahead and say Drew. I think that's weird. I think when you. I don't understand why people want to play games with their kids names. I'm gonna have five sons. We're gonna name them all K. Plus of all the letters, that's the one I would have stayed away from. If I'm gonna have multiple K's, I would have done a different letter. I think that's too many K's. Why do parents. And then their daughter, they named like Lauren, like, they, like they didn't put. Make her part of it. I don't. I think that's weird.
Drew Franklin
And none of the K's were traditional K's. It wasn't like a Kevin. It was like kerosene and kryptonite and kettlebell. I mean, it was just. Yeah, that. That set the tone for. We're getting away from the basketball. These are the draft memories that we're going to take with us.
Matt Jones
Kettlebell, Cannibal.
Drew Franklin
They're just all up there looking like clones of each other. They. They lined up like those Russian dolls. You stack up. Yeah, they lined up like them.
Matt Jones
They were. Bab had Ace Bailey, who apparently the only team he didn't want to go to was Utah. And so Utah just picked him anyway. And they're like, you're just gonna have to get to learn Salt Lake, my friend.
Ryan Lemond
The basketball gods played one over on him. Yeah. He's publicly said, I do not want to go.
Matt Jones
I do not want to go there. They were like, I don't care, you're going there. Then Trey Johnson. Shannon, I don't know if you saw his outfit, but I thought of you. Suit on top, shorts underneath. He looked like the AC DC guitarist Angus Young. Angus Young. Why did he wear that? Why is he wearing shorts? Mario, did that look good to you? You did think it looked good? A tie, a jacket and shorts? No, and I did not think it looked good. Listen, I don't know fashion, but I thought that looked ridiculous.
Drew Franklin
It kind of startled me because on the tight shot, it was just his waist and up. I was like, that's a pretty good looking suit. You know, I think it was double breasted, had some nice looking buttons on it. But then they slowly zoomed out and you saw the shorts and like the white socks. That's when it became maybe the most ridiculous suit of the night.
Matt Jones
Jeremiah Fe. Then the BYU kid. And then we got to call him Murray Bowles. Who when Toronto picked him, they said, Colin Murray Bowles, Toronto Raptors. And he cussed and went beep. Like he was very angry. He had to go to Toronto. He had to have known the camera was going to be on him. I thought it was weird to have that reaction.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah, that's supposed to be one of the greatest moments of your life. You give all the work your whole entire life to get drafted in the NBA. You have that moment and then you show make yourself look like an a hole.
Matt Jones
Whoa. That felt strongly. That strongly about it?
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Come on, man. The Raptors are spending millions of dollars on you. Show a little appreciation.
Matt Jones
Does that mean, by the way, that's my first bust of the draft? He's got one. Yeah, I mean, we played against them, he was fine, but just he doesn't.
Drew Franklin
Really have a great build for the NBA right now.
Matt Jones
That is. You remember I said this Colin Murray bust. Then Malik, the kid from Duke went, what a great story. I think I knew his story, but I didn't really focus on his story. Grew up born in the South Sudan, which if you don't follow the world news is. Is in just awful situation. Maybe one of the worst situations in the world with civil war and all that. Goes to Uganda. Gets discovered at 13. He's walking down the road and somebody goes, you're really tall. Have you ever thought about playing basketball? And he said, no. And they said, well, why don't you come to this camp? And then five years later, he ends up at Duke in the number 10 pick in the draft. That's one of the. I mean, what an amazing story. God's walking down the road in Uganda after having escaped from a war torn country and then becomes an NBA draft pick. I. If that's not like the best of humanity. I know he played for Duke and that makes it. But still, that's amazing.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I think he went to Luau. Ding started that academy, thinks it's like the only basketball court in the country. He went there and then wore number nine for Luau. So very cool for them.
Matt Jones
They need to do a documentary. You know that South Sudan team almost beat the United States and, and Luol Ding started the team, but when Gabriel played on it, like the fact that the South Sudan, which is in just a horrible civil war, could create a team that nearly beat the United States. Luol Ding is like, he should win some sort of Humanitarian Award. Number 11 was Cedric Coward, which the announcer said was Colin Cowherd had gotten picked in the draft. Did you hear that?
Ryan Lemond
No, I didn't hear that.
Matt Jones
Yeah. The announcer said, Colin Cowherd has been picked by. By Memphis. I was like, well, I don't know how well he'll do considering he's 55 and doesn't play basketball.
Drew Franklin
But he was considering coming back to school. I'm just glad he stayed pro.
Matt Jones
Some French guy I'd never heard of got picked 12th. Then Derek Queen went 13th. He went to New Orleans. Best joke I saw during the draft because, you know, Zion's in New Orleans. Somebody wrote Zion got excited because he thought New Orleans picked Dairy Queen. Shannon, that's a wrong thing to say. But it is funny. When they said Zion thought they picked Dairy Queen, I got to tell you, I already thought Derek Queen had a chance to be a bus, because, you know, when you're chubby at 18 years old, staying in shape, and then you go put him with Zion in New Orleans, which has the best food in the world, I am already on bust alert. If he's down there with Zion in New Orleans, I'm already worried about you.
Drew Franklin
Got to keep those two apart. I tell Derek Queen, listen, Zion's on this team. You're not allowed to meet him. You don't get a phone number. You'll only see each other on the court. I do not want you to hang out. I don't want y' all near a bowl of gumbo together.
Matt Jones
Zion, you are not allowed. They. They put that app that they're doing for the teachers and the students in Kentucky. Zion, you are not allowed to contact him outside of official capacity.
Drew Franklin
Got to go through the Pelicans if you want to talk to Derek Queen.
Ryan Lemond
No training table. Safe with those two guys.
Matt Jones
That's. That's good. All right, so I want to go over the second half, and we'll preview what Kentucky guys. I think one Kentucky guy goes tonight. Maybe up to three, but certainly one. We will take a break. We are here at Little Crooked Creek Safari in Shelby County, Kentucky. Bet you didn't know it's here. It is. We'll be right back. It's Kentucky sports Radio.

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Some people like the Trey Johnson shorts thing. One person writes. Mario knows more about fashion than all four of you combined. First of all, it's not nice. True. Dress is all right. You should listen to him. The shorts combo look good. I know it didn't. I don't care. It did not look.
Drew Franklin
No, he'll regret that.
Matt Jones
He'll regret that because that video, that picture is going to be with you forever. You know what I mean? Like you're going to look you, you, you're in the senate, man. Like, I love hoodie and shorts as much. The next guy, but put on, put on some pants. Same thing for the draft. Put on some pants.
Ryan Lemond
Well, it's kind of a trendy thing. These NBA guys wearing these suits with shorts. I've seen it.
Matt Jones
Who else is done it?
Ryan Lemond
I saw LeBron. The first guy I saw, dude, see LeBron do it. LeBron has done it. Walking into the draft. Not the draft, like an NBA championship.
Matt Jones
Well, people wear crazy things to the NBA. I mean, to the draft. That's like your wedding night.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. It's biggest night of your life so far to that point.
Matt Jones
Yeah. One person writes, matt, I have three brothers. All of our names start with K. You don't know what you're talking about. I do know what I'm talking about. I think it's stupid. Like you can have it. Like, I'm not saying. What do you mean? What is it? I don't know. Like you can, you can think it's cool. I just would say to you, see.
Ryan Lemond
Actually I think the parents did the guys a favor by having some crazy first name. Takes the attention off the last name.
Matt Jones
Knipple.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. It's an unfortunate name to have. So you go, I wouldn't have gotten.
Drew Franklin
K for the first name, for the alliteration.
Matt Jones
I'm just saying, if you're gonna have a lot of the same letter, K is the one I'm staying away from. If I'm, if I'm doing anything kilometer out there. Yes. I'm, I'm, I'm not for that. All right, so let's, let's go quickly through some other things. First of all, then, my favorite moments of the draft is when people come out of the stand.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, my boy Yang.
Matt Jones
Yeah, they picked a guy named Yang Hansen. Never heard of that person. Not convinced it was a real person. But he came out of the stands. I like that seven foot Chinese guy just coming out of the stage.
Drew Franklin
My favorite moment of the draft night. All the mock drafts had my guy Yang in the second round. He said, nay, I'm going middle of the first and I'm going to show up anyway. He said he didn't have good seats.
Ryan Lemond
He was bought back a general admission seat.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I know. He did not have good seats. I thought they'd at least put him on the front row.
Drew Franklin
Imagine you're like the local Knicks fan and you want to go check out the draft and this seven foot guy in a white suit from China sits down next.
Matt Jones
That is true. You'd have to be like, he might get picked. There was a seven foot Chinese guy in a suit next to me. That's strange.
Drew Franklin
Well, I'm a Yang Hansen fan.
Matt Jones
Walter Clayton Jr. Yeah. Goes to Utah, 18th. That's good. That's another example of a great. That's the good part of the portal. Starts his career at Ohio, plays hard, ends up at Florida, wins a national title. Top 20 draft pick. You got to love that.
Ryan Lemond
Love his whole story. And I'm so glad he's got a chance because he's. He's got the type of game that can succeed in the, in the NBA. So good luck to him.
Drew Franklin
He was with Patino and Iona.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Yeah, he was.
Drew Franklin
From Rick to gold in the NBA.
Matt Jones
That's right. Two Illinois players went back to back Yaka Chonas and Will Riley. How about that? And we beat them in the tournament. When I watched them go back to back, I was like, yeah, you may have gone back to back, but who took the L in Milwaukee? And it was Illinois.
Drew Franklin
And at that point in the night, it felt like every pick had been from another country or Kentucky played them last year because it felt like I think there were maybe six or seven in the top 20 that Pope and Kentucky played a year ago. Including those two beat them.
Matt Jones
Does it make you feel old that Jason Richardson's kids got. Got picked? I thought Jason Richardson was like, I thought he'd only been around for eight or 10 years and now he gets picked. That's kind of wild.
Drew Franklin
Even with Dylan Harper. I remember watching Ron Harper. So it's. I'm at that point we all are. Where it's like, oh, no. It's a second gener generations coming to the league.
Matt Jones
Brooklyn had five first round picks.
Ryan Lemond
Five.
Matt Jones
And used them all. They're gonna have the youngest team in the world. They picked a guy from Israel and then a guy from Yale back to back. Basically Brooklyn trying to make their mirror the community therein. What did you. What did you think about Danny Wolf?
Drew Franklin
That's my boy. Be careful. Danny Wolf's my guy.
Matt Jones
There was a lot of cry. And I'm. Danny Wolf's brother cried a lot. Now I think it's sweet, don't get me wrong, but I feel bad for Danny Wolf's brother. Did you see Shannon? Did you see the meme that's coming? Like from now on when somebody's happy or because of something that happens, they're gonna show. Poor Danny Wolf's brother.
Discover Representative
He was ugly, crying.
Matt Jones
I mean, he was crying like he was crying as much as anyone has ever cried at anything. I mean, it was it. Have you ever seen a person out of happiness cry more than that?
Drew Franklin
No. He probably needed to dismiss himself, get some oxygen and get that together. Nothing wrong with crying in public or on tv, but he was becoming the story in the middle of that moment.
Ryan Lemond
There's something about when it's your brother, though, man, you feel so proud to be that that's your kid brother out there and he's going to be a millionaire in the NBA. I can see why he got upset.
Drew Franklin
He was gasping for.
Matt Jones
But I mean, that was you.
Discover Representative
I've seen that was excessive.
Matt Jones
That was heavy crimes, you know, like.
Discover Representative
Can I just say, like Walter Clayton Jr. When he cried, I thought, you know, I feel that. I. I feel for him. I feel happy for him.
Matt Jones
But the kid from South Sudan, when he cried, Shannon, that was, I thought, really, really sweet.
Discover Representative
Danny Wolf's brother. Dude, calm down. Dial it down a little bit.
Matt Jones
I mean, it was just. It was, it was a lot of crying. Like, it was, it was. It was kind of, you know, like you go to a funeral, there's somebody who's not even that close to the family that is just absolutely weeping. And you're like, okay, thank you. But like, you can't cry more than the wife and the children of the people. Like, you've got to bring it down a notch. I thought Danny's Bruce brother just need to bring it down just a notch.
Ryan Lemond
Maybe that's why, you know, all those games and pick up pickup games in the driveway and shooting around in the backyard. Maybe that's what kind of just kind of all caught up to me that moment.
Matt Jones
Well, I guess. All right, so then let's go to tonight. Kobe Braya. I talked to Sam Vicini, who's one of the big NBA draft gurus. I said, is Kobe Gabre going to get picked tonight? He said, most likely. He said there's like eight different teams that have him fifth or sixth on their board. So he felt like one of them would end up getting him. But he said there were some teams that don't have him on their board at all because of his defense. So do you think he. You think he ends up going, I.
Drew Franklin
Think he gets picked? I have not any. I can't name drop any analyst that I've talked to. Sorry, Jonathan Gibney didn't pick up my call.
Matt Jones
Remember Jonathan Gibney? Like you talking. You talk about a guy we remember when he was like 18 years old, started his own. Remember he started a fight with us One time. Do you remember that?
Drew Franklin
I remember the fight.
Matt Jones
Oh there's gonna say he started his own the KSR archives there's a Jonathan Givney Drew Franklin war.
Drew Franklin
No wonder he didn't answer. You know not at all. I don't. Yeah no I'm just gonna to the original point about Kobe Braya in my beef with Givney I've only been reading mock drafts like most people but a lot of them have them pretty high.
Matt Jones
End see where Kobe Bray goes.
Ryan Lemond
I didn't watch one second last night but I'll watch it tonight because of that.
Matt Jones
I was wondering why you weren't commenting much.
Ryan Lemond
You didn't see any of this not one second.
Matt Jones
So you don't even consider that a sports radio show that's predominantly college basketball. You might want to watch the draft.
Ryan Lemond
Nope. I can catch up with online.
Matt Jones
You can't catch up. You didn't see Danny Wolf's brother cry?
Drew Franklin
Not much of what we talked about.
Matt Jones
Did you know he didn't see Trey Johnson? The suit you commented looked good. You didn't even see it.
Ryan Lemond
I'm sure.
Matt Jones
How do you not watch the draft.
Drew Franklin
Or catch up before the show?
Ryan Lemond
Easy not watch the draft. I had no interest. I watch it tonight because of Kobe Bray.
Matt Jones
That's it.
Drew Franklin
So like if you missed the draft.
Matt Jones
Like a little showcrumb commented like confidently. Yeah about all of this and he.
Drew Franklin
Didn'T watch any of remember KSR is Ryan learns the news.
Matt Jones
That is unbelievable.
Ryan Lemond
Good to know that he had a good suit on.
Matt Jones
What music is playing? Oh, it's my phone. Never mind. We will take a break.

Music to go to break.

Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back Kee Sports Radio. We are on our Kentucky office highway safety KS safe summer driving tour. We are at the little Crooked Creek Safari in Shel which is very very cool little place up here. Well I say up here, back here and off the back roads in the corner of three different counties. Nice folks for having us. Got a little crowd of eight to 10 people here. I always they that's the perfect amount. I was just saying when you get this much it feels like you're talking to people but you're not like having to sing and dance.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. And Eric said that on the weekends they can get up to 500, 600 people that come.
Matt Jones
You get 500 people up here. Good night. Where do they park in the front Yard. All right, well, that's good. One person writes, Matt, I enjoyed watching the draft, but I will say ESPN has the worst broadcast in history. Truth, Worst. Worst. I mean, I tried The Stephen A. 1. Way Too Much yelling. Then I went to the billis and Kendrick 1. I don't think Kendrick Perkins had ever seen one of these dudes play before last night. He made the most generic comments like, well, you know, he's six, eight, which means he's tall. Like, comments like that. At least Billis knew what was going on. Why can't they just get people who know who these players was it Perkins.
Drew Franklin
Who'S made the Cooper flag comparison and said it's like if Anthony Davis and Kevin Garnett had a baby, I think that was his addition. I watched the ESPN one for most. Yeah, I watched ESPN 95 of the night. I was around like pick 11 or 12. I switched ABC and somebody had just been selected. And Stephen A. Was yelling so loud. I left it on for like 20 seconds. It's like, well, I guess back to the other one.
Matt Jones
There's too much Stephen A. Too much Stephen A. Like, I, I, you know, hopefully my ESPN people aren't listening, but there's too much Stephen A. Like, they, they Way too much. He's oversaturated. He doesn't know. It's clear he didn't know anything about these guys either. Just give him a week off. It's okay. He does not need to yell all the time.
Drew Franklin
They have the Warriors GM up there. Let him talk a little bit more.
Ryan Lemond
They put him on every single show, every single day.
Matt Jones
But who is that for? Like, who is sitting there saying, I need Stephen A. At this moment in the draft? Like, the draft is about. Their draft is college basketball. There you literally have people whose entire job is college basketball. Billis is good. The GM makes sense because he was a gm. Why do they have to have Stephen.
Drew Franklin
A. I don't know. I'm, I'm hoping at least with the NBA coverage, especially things like the Finals, that this, we've seen the last of them. But I don't think that's going to be the case.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, otherwise, enjoy the night. It'll be interesting to see where our guys go end up going Today, some more college basketball news. This is kind of oddly sports heavy. The NCAA announced yesterday two things. Number one, they're going to 32 games starting next year. So not this year, but next year, which means basically one more game in the season. On paper, I mean, I love it on paper. In theory, could Allow you to play another good team. I kind of think most teams will just do another home game that makes some money. This is, I'm sure, a revenue play. I was talking to somebody yesterday privately who said by 2031 they think it'll go up to 35 games, which I think I would like even more. But one more game, you happy about that?
Ryan Lemond
I love it. Of course, you know, being a college basketball guy, I want more games. And Coach Pope just said that in the last couple weeks he wants to go to 35, 36 games.
Matt Jones
I think he wanted to go to 40. I don't think that's going to happen, but I think they'll probably add a game every two years till you get to 34, 35.
Drew Franklin
I hope Kentucky uses this like Pope says he was willing at a really good home and home like Kansas. You know, we have Duke and Carolina in the acc, sec. Hopefully we'll be get them on a rotation, but maybe a Yukon. I'd like to get in a good traditional home and home going back and forth in a real college arena again.
Matt Jones
They're going to start. They're going to decide next week whether to expand the tournament. They're contemplating going to 76. So from 68 to 76, that would be eight more teams. I mean, it's not the end of the world, but I don't like it. I mean, I. I could be talked into four more. Get you to 72, because then Tuesday and Wednesday you could have four games. So you could have games all day. So basically you'd get Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Of all games, basically six games. You start to add more than that. They're going to be playing at the same time. It's going to be. It's. It's too many and they don't need it, but they're probably going to do it.
Drew Franklin
It's too many. I'll admit I'll enjoy a noon game on a Monday that I can gamble on, even though it's going to be Mississippi State versus Boston College or something. But I just kind of hate how it used to matter making the tournament. Now any team that's done anything is going to get in the tournament. It used to be when you're judging a coach or how a season went, it was a big deal just to be in the field of 64. It's gotten a little stale on that. And just being in the field, the.
Matt Jones
Counter to that is, I think if you're in a big conference and you don't make the tournament now you're just going to get fired like. Like you have no excuse now not to make the tournament. If you're in a big conference like you. You have to.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah. Whether we like it or not, the expansion's coming. I'd like to go into 72 and doing all the games in Dayton. Just make it one week of games in Dayton. I think that would add a little more to.
Matt Jones
I wonder if they may still do that. They may still do it. I don't know. I don't know exactly how you would do it. I don't know if you can play six games in one day or whatever. But I still think if you're gonna play all those games, Dayton is the way to do it. Because. Because if you try to do it anywhere else, no one's gonna go.
Ryan Lemond
So like if you already established there.
Matt Jones
In Dayton, it's kind of like Omaha in the College World Series. Like they'll come no matter who's playing. So it's. And you get a good atmosphere. Even if it's Alabama State versus Long island, you still get a good atmosphere because everybody comes.
Ryan Lemond
Sure.
Drew Franklin
Dayton loved to expand. Dayton would take as many as they can. It might be an issue if you start adding too many of Dayton's able to. To host all of it. But I agree that it should stay in Dayton as long as it can.
Matt Jones
If it goes to 76, will we. When will we ever miss the tournament?
Ryan Lemond
We shouldn't ever miss the tournament. They go to 76 games.
Matt Jones
I mean, the reason I say that is in 2013, if it was 76, we would have made the tournament. Now the COVID year probably still wouldn't.
Ryan Lemond
Have made the tournament.
Matt Jones
So that would have been a year we actually wouldn't have made it either way. But do you think. Let me just. Let's just throw it out there. Go to 76 teams. Do we miss the tournament in the next decade? We've only missed the tournament in the modern era, like three times. Right. We missed it the. Or four times. We missed it the probation year.
Ryan Lemond
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And then we missed it in. In the COVID year and in 2013.
Drew Franklin
In 2013. Took an injury to one of the best players in the country. No, I think they'll make it every year. Honestly, if you can't make it at 76, whoever the coach is, I don't care if it's Mark Pope, just don't come back to your office. If really, if Kentucky cannot make a tournament with 76 teams, then yes, that's inexcusable.
Matt Jones
Wow.
Ryan Lemond
Mark, not let Kentucky miss the tournament. He won't.
Drew Franklin
Now, I'm assuming the NIL budget is still in good shape. We're kind of in the status we are now. There's no reason Kentucky should not make a field of 76.
Matt Jones
One person writes, Matt, I'm officially offended at Ryan. You know, the guy called yesterday and said Shannon was his favorite person on the show. I've always argued Ryan was my favorite. He's now no longer my favorite. You're on the biggest show in the state. You have to watch the draft.
Ryan Lemond
No, I don't. I don't have to watch the draft. No, I don't.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you do it.
Ryan Lemond
When one Kentucky guy got drafted first time in the first round, I'm say this, Billy Gillespie.
Matt Jones
I'm going to say this with love. You needed to have watched.
Ryan Lemond
Didn't need to watch the draft.
Drew Franklin
What about a catch up the morning before the show to see the.
Ryan Lemond
That's what I did.
Drew Franklin
Viral moments.
Ryan Lemond
Easy as Mario in the car here. Tell me who got drafted last night.
Drew Franklin
Think he's gonna get the show prep talk?
Matt Jones
You're gonna get the show prep talk. When this is over, you watch the draft. There are only a handful of moments that you have to watch. This is one of the things you have to do. You have to watch the draft. That's not, that's a show prep. So I, even though I'm not angry about it, he is exactly right. You should watch the draft. That's part of, that's part of this job. At least check in with it, right?
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Sometimes I miss big events, but I will cram the morning after before the show.
Matt Jones
Should he watch the draft?
Discover Representative
Should have, yeah.
Matt Jones
Should have watched the draft. Who's up next?
Discover Representative
Joseph.
Matt Jones
Joseph. Go ahead, Joseph.
Ryan Lemond
Hey, Matt, I appreciate you taking my call. Y' all were talking last week real fast. I have a football question. But y' all were talking last week about like that Steve A. Smith talking.
Matt Jones
About the crime in Memphis was real bad or whatever. Yes.
Ryan Lemond
You know the highest murder rate in America is actually Cabot Cove, Maine. You know the little town.
Matt Jones
That's what Murder She Wrote. Yeah. They did have a lot of murders in that town for the population and only one old solve them.
Ryan Lemond
I think they said something like 2% of the population at little town got murdered or something.
Matt Jones
That is bad.
Ryan Lemond
So just I had, I had a football question I haven't been able to call in a couple weeks. Just talk about Mark Stoops, you know, with his buyout the way it is.
Matt Jones
I, I think we kind of have.
Ryan Lemond
Him, whether we want it or not, for the next probably at least two or three years.
Matt Jones
Do you.
Ryan Lemond
Are you inclined to agree with that?
Matt Jones
Well, okay. So it kind of gets back to the cow point, which is, yes, I do agree with you that on paper, as a financial decision, there is no if, if. If we win, no matter what happens, Mark Stoops, as a financial decision, almost has to come back. But there is also the practical matter, which is, let's say we go four and eight and you get that last home game, which isn't it against, like Tennessee Tech or something. That last home game. Let's say you have the last home game and there are 6,000 people at the game, which is not crazy. If the team has been a disaster, I don't know how this fan base would accept bringing him back now. There's the finance. This was the same thing, though, with Cal. Remember? We forget this. They decided to bring Cal back. He ended up leaving, but they did decide to bring him back. So, you know, Joseph may be right. There may not be a financial way to make a separation when it's over, but there comes a point sometimes that things can get so toxic, nobody really wants to be in them. So I'm hoping we don't get to this point. I'm hoping we don't have to have this conversation in November. But a lot of things have worked with the schedule to where you can foresee it happening. That last home game being against nobody could be a disaster. And then Louisville in the final game, a Louisville team that might be good, that has Vince Merrow on the sideline throwing L's up like that could be about as worse of option as you could get.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. We all know Mitch is not quick to fire anyone. And I think Mitch won't want to fire Mark at all. But if you get to a point where you're not making any money, there's a number there where you just got to eat the buyout because you got to get some revenue and some excitement back. If games like Tennessee Tech at home are not making you anything and you're still losing, could be losing more than you would have lost just paying them to break up.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Hey, nothing says summer like long days, clutch plays, and the firing off of a few bets for the game. You know, it's hot outside. Look at these folks sitting in the sun. You guys are very nice. Like, I press them. How about the llama and the poor llama?
Drew Franklin
The camel.

Welcome Back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. Give us a shout. We missed the tournament more than I realized.
Ryan Lemond
What are some other years?
Matt Jones
We missed three straight years. We missed the year we were on probation, then Pitino's first two years or the year before we went on probation, then the two years of probation. So we missed 89, 90 and 94. And then I forgot we missed Billy's second year.
Ryan Lemond
Oh yeah.
Drew Franklin
Oh yeah.
Matt Jones
But we would have made it that year too if it was 76. So that's also an interesting thing. If it went to 76, would Billy Gillespie have still been the coach?
Drew Franklin
Would he still be here now?
Matt Jones
No, he'd have lost it before then. But that is an interesting question. If Billy makes the tournament that year.
Ryan Lemond
How do you fire?
Matt Jones
Maybe he gets another year.
Ryan Lemond
Yep.
Matt Jones
You know, that's why this stinks.
Drew Franklin
There'll be a lot of coaches in that situation where they need to go, but they made the field so they'll get to stick around.
Matt Jones
Yeah. 859-280-2287 couple open lines I got to talk about. To me, the weirdest piece of news, Connor. Joe, who is not a good baseball player but is on the Reds. He, you know, he does some things that are okay but he's not very good at the baseball. But he was put on the injured list yesterday and you know, usually they'll put on the injured list, they'll be like stranger, groin pulled, your hamstring, whatever. Sometimes you'll see injured list illness which you know is probably like they're just sick and so they need some time. The Reds put it out and said, Connor Joe, 15 day disabled list, hand, foot and mouth disease. First of all, I didn't know that was a thing. I mean, I, I've heard of it, but I thought that was something you got in. Like if you visited like the Philippines or something and you had to get like a shot for it. Like, I didn't know. I didn't know that was a thing you just got. Apparently children get it. Had no idea maybe going to a.
Drew Franklin
Daycare, not the Philippines, that'll get it.
Matt Jones
I didn't know that. Secondly, I didn't know that if you, if you got it, like, it's worse when adults get it. And then I saw pictures of it. It looks awful. My thought was this. A, didn't realize the prevalence of hand, foot and mouth disease. B, I don't feel like the Reds needed to call him out like that because it went viral. Everybody was like, what is this? The Oregon Trail Hand, foot and mouth disease. And so now everybody knows Connor Joe has. From what I read of hand, foot, mouth at dc, it gets on your hands, big rashes, your foot inside your throat. And sometimes, and this is gross, but this is what I read, like, the crevice on your backside. I don't need to know that about Connor Joe. I don't need to know that he may have, like, butt pimples. And so I feel, I, I feel bad for him that they had to release that level of detail.
Drew Franklin
I'm not an expert, but maybe illness would have been fine. Connor Joe out, illness, and everyone just moved on with their lives.
Matt Jones
He's not a good enough player that from now on, every time he comes to bat, I'm gonna be like, oh, there's old hand, foot and mouth guy.
Drew Franklin
Now when he comes back, everyone's gonna be afraid to touch his hand or his foot or his mouth.
Matt Jones
If it was Ellie De La Cruz, he's so good, we'd forget. But from now on, Shannon, Connor Joe is hand, foot and mouth disease guy.
Discover Representative
That's his legacy from now on.
Matt Jones
Legacy. And I think the Reds did him wrong. I'm gonna be honest with you.
Ryan Lemond
I think they did him wrong too. I've heard of it, but I don't know one person who's ever had it. But now, can you imagine in the locker room, he comes walking in the locker room, it's gonna be like the Red Sea, Parton. Nobody wants to get around him.
Discover Representative
Oh, yeah, they could have said, you know, he has a sore throat. He's gonna be out for a few days.
Drew Franklin
There may be one of the three. He has hand disease. Well, all of it.
Matt Jones
I don't know if I would say, yeah, that's true. Hand disease would be weird. Also, if you said mouth, I wouldn't want to be on there for mouth disease either. Maybe. Maybe foot disease.
Ryan Lemond
I. How long does one out when they get hand.
Drew Franklin
I know people have had it. It was not a pleasant experience.
Matt Jones
What happens?
Drew Franklin
And they got it from kids. I feel like you have to, like, go play with building blocks at a daycare to get it. I assume Connor Joe has kids.
Matt Jones
I heard somebody tell me, like, you can get literally, like, itchy sores inside your throat. I've heard that it is an absolutely miserable experience. Anybody here? You ever had it?
Drew Franklin
European. There we go. We have an expert.
Matt Jones
You had two cases yesterday. So it's.
Drew Franklin
Was it Connor Joe?
Matt Jones
So it's spreading? Well, I didn't know anything about it, so I tweeted out something like, that's crazy. And then the text machine all night was just people telling me about their hand, foot and mouth disease. Which, you know, I was fine too, but I felt like I was experiencing it with people. It is much more prevalent than I realized. You just said pediatrician, and apparently if adults get it, it is absolutely awful. Right?
Ryan Lemond
Is it something that's, like, spreading now? Like we all need to be worried about?
Matt Jones
Is it spreading? It's usually found throughout the year. It's found throughout the year, Summer more often, because everybody's, like, sweating and saliva on each other. Well, I just. I've, you know, I've. I've seen a lot of injury reports over the years. I've never seen that level of detail. I mean, it would be like if they said, you know, tyler Stevenson out crabs or something. It's like there's a level of this. There's.
Drew Franklin
That be embarrassing, too. Especially now. You get the social media grab graphics where they use the biggest font they can fit. So it'll just say crabs or hand, foot, mouth.
Discover Representative
We don't need the level of detail.
Matt Jones
If I was Connor Joe, I cannot believe Major League baseball does not require that level of detail. I would be so angry at the Reds for putting that out that I would be livid.
Drew Franklin
Illness. It's very simple. No one needs to know. Everybody's good with it. You can stay home with an illness. We won't ask questions.
Matt Jones
Well, he just left the pediatrician, but I was gonna ask him. Do. Do. Someone wrote me that many kids get it like that. Kids get it all the time that like you're lucky if your kid doesn't get it or y' all are shaking your head. So I didn't. I had no idea. So at least they taught me that.
Ryan Lemond
My kids never got it. Maybe it's a Cincinnati thing then maybe it's going around in the Cincinnati area.
Matt Jones
Well I that's a level of detail I didn't eat. But good luck to con.
Drew Franklin
Hope it gets better.
Matt Jones
Yeah prayers. Serious thing prayers if you want to be grossed out. No Google like people's hands and stuff that have it. No, I mean you've seen it. It's awful like it is abs. It looked like my skin when I was 13 but on my hands instead of my face. It. It's. It's a really nasty thing. 8592802287 we're going to take a break.
