This is Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Myron Metcalf
This ain't Matt Jones. Black Jones is back, baby. Myron filling in. In the mix on a. Not a Merry Monday. I was about to say Merry Monday. Merry Tuesday. What, man? What's what? I'm trying to think, like, what you call what I should call Terrific Tuesday.
Matt Jones
Terrific Tuesday.
Myron Metcalf
Is that what I should.
Shannon
That works.
Matt Jones
Tickle Me Tuesday.
Myron Metcalf
I don't know. No, that's a Tickle me Tuesday Sound like an HR problem. I don't want. I don't. You don't want to encourage Tickle Me Tuesday. And then they gotta walk. They gotta walk James off the job at noon because he was leaning into it too much. I'll go with Terrific Tuesday. How are you fellas doing on this Terrific Tuesday?
Matt Jones
Man, it's good to hear from you again. It's been a minute since you've been on the. On the show, so we're excited to hear you were going to join us again this week.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, man. Who do I have? I got. I got my guy Ryan. I got. Who else got Shannon.
Shannon
Shannon. I'm here. Yep. Have you been to any waffle houses lately?
Myron Metcalf
Let me tell you something. So I spent a week in South Carolina this week, like, and I was doing a peach jam.
Matt Jones
Yeah, right.
Myron Metcalf
So I was in South Carolina, Georgia, this. And for a week. I just got back yesterday. So, like, I don't want to offend anybody, okay? So let me say that so you all can help me. Like, be honest with me, okay? If this is, like, maybe sounds offensive, but this is what I thought when I. After a week in South Carolina, like, if all the states were people, right? Like, if all. Like, if every state was characterized by, like, a person that kind of symbolizes what that state is. I feel like South Carolina is like Tennessee after a divorce a little bit. You know what I mean? Like, you know, kind of starting over. You're moving to the condo. You know, like, everything's maybe not in order. There was a lot happening in South Carolina. And here's. Here's why I say that people were interested in South Carolina in just my experience, right? Like, I went to a store, and there was a dude telling me to go to church. And then he also said it's okay to drink a little bit of wine every now and then. I didn't really know where he was going. Like, I don't know what church he was a part of, but he was. He was pretty adamant in telling me, hey, you got to go to this church. And then he was also telling me, hey, but I also do a little bit. Little bit of this, this, little bit of that. The restaurants, everyone called me sugar. Am I a sugar?
Matt Jones
You're sugar.
Shannon
You're sweet.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you sugar daddy.
Myron Metcalf
Everyone. Everybody called me sugar. And that was. You know, I'm like, I didn't feel like they were calling everybody sugar. You know what I mean? That was my thing. Like, everybody wasn't being called sugar, so I'm like, was there something about me that. That made them feel that way? And then the rain, okay, so I didn't understand South Carolina rain. Maybe you all know about this. I have never seen rain where the weather apps couldn't keep up with what was going on in South Carolina. So I was sitting in my car at Peach Dam, right? And it said, two hours until this storm is coming. So you. I don't know if you all have ever been to Peach Jam, but, like, Peach Jam is in North Augusta, South Carolina. It's in this gym, but, like, you basically gotta park wherever you can find a spot. So, like, people are literally up on curbs, on grass. It's like one of those situations. So I'm parked up on the grass, and it's like two hours before it rains. So I'm sitting in my car, sending some text messages, thinking I got two hours. You know, all of a sudden, I. I see these sprinkles, and I'm like, wait a minute. My weather app said two hours. And then it's a downpour. Like, South Carolina rain, they don't flirt with you. Like, South Carolina rain doesn't tease you. Like, it just destroys everything. And it starts pouring. And now I'm running into the entrance. Now, here's the thing. Once you get past 40, no one past the age of 40 looks good running. I don't know if you all knew that.
Matt Jones
I'm with you 100%.
Myron Metcalf
No one. Like, I don't care. I don't care if you're in the best shape in the world. I don't care if you run marathons. No one after 40 looks good running, but when you don't run a lot, it looks even worse. So I just, I just know it was a bad look, fellas. I just know it was a. Like someone saw me running to the entrance and it probably changed our relationship. And I don't know, you know, like. Like they're not going to tell me, but I feel that way. Like, do you all know what I'm talking about? Have you seen people over 40 running? It's not a good look, right?
Matt Jones
Even when I'm running now I know for a fact people are laughing at me because it is not a good look at all.
Shannon
Time stolen base leader right here, Ryan Lemond. Still, he's lost. He's lost the step over the years, though.
Matt Jones
Oh, no, I can still run.
Myron Metcalf
Listen, I mean, and I can, I can, I can do bursts of running, but, like, you know, stuff is. Stuff is jiggling. I think I lost like a $45 along the way that I just. I couldn't turn back to grab it, you know, like, once you lose change in the rain, it's just. It's just gone. You know what I mean? Like, you can't go back. I don't know where it is, but it just was a lot happening. But yeah, just South Carolina in general, man, was just an interesting place. Where do you all rank? South Carolina among the states in the South? If we rank them. Like, is South Carolina top five, top ten? Like, where do you rank South Carolina?
Matt Jones
I may surprise you with this, Myron. I rank it number two because I love Hilton Head. I go to Hilton Head quite a bit. Yeah, so that's different.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, that's beautiful up there.
Matt Jones
Beautiful. Charleston, South Carolina is beautiful. Even Myrtle beach, parts of Myrtle beach is really beautiful. But you're right, the state itself, it's like no sense of urgency, kind of back porch rocking, sweet tea, kind of just chill kind of vibe down there.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, I feel like I was in Hilton Heads like third cousin on their daddy side's house a little bit. You know what I mean? Like, it wasn't a little different, you know, where, where I was. Now, granted, the food was great. That's one thing. Yeah, everything I ate in South Carolina was incredible. Like there was.
Matt Jones
You got to have sweet tea every meal. You got to drink sweet tea, everything.
Myron Metcalf
And then here's the cool thing about, like, their hotels. I mean, this is not like this in Midwest. Every hotel has a restaurant attached to It. Yeah, I don't know what it. Like, every place you go, there's like a place also to get nachos. Like, as you check in, the nacho joint is right there to the left. And then you check in and then it's like, yeah, okay, go get some nachos and a margarita before you go to your room. It's all set up like that, you know, and so that was pretty cool. And then the games are good, too. I saw Mark Pope down there, who never stops moving, by the way. Like, Mark Pope is always on the go at these events. Like, I don't know if you all have been to an event with Mark Pope, but you just see this seven foot human being going from gym to gym to gym. And I don't know, I would love to know how many steps he does in a day, because my guess is Mark Pope is like a 20,000 step a day dude.
Matt Jones
Oh, there's no doubt.
Myron Metcalf
He just never stops. He absolutely never stops, man.
Matt Jones
And it's like he's already drunk like six Red Bulls before the day even starts. He just. So energetic.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah. I said, hey, coach. And he looked at me and he said, oh, hey. But it was the, oh, hey. Like, I don't really know who you are. I'm going to keep walking. But he probably just is so, like in a beeline to get to where he wants to go that he just doesn't have time, you know, to kind of stop. But that man is always, always on the move, man. Well, it's terrific Tuesday, so I'm going to treat it like Merry Monday. So I still want people to call in and I want you to tell me something great that happened to you over the weekend. Well, up until today, you can include Monday, too. So terrific Tuesday. Let me know some good things that are happening in your world. I don't remember the segments. Like, well, how much time do I have? Like, how long am I talking right now? I don't know anything.
Shannon
Yeah, you can go. Yeah, yeah. This break goes all the way up till 20 after if you want to. So.
Myron Metcalf
Okay. So I saw Superman.
Matt Jones
Oh, you did? No, we talked about it. Yeah. What do you think?
Myron Metcalf
I saw Superman again. So I saw it in the South Carolina theater. No less than four flies had somehow got into the theater and you could see them as they were buzzing around during the movie. Right. But. But I thought the movie itself was really good. I loved the movie. I enjoyed the movie. I understand that people are whatever. They're making some sort of political connection to it. Listen, man, It's a doggone superhero movie. That's all I cared about. It was. It was the same thing that Superman's been doing from the beginning, from the time I was a kid, goes out and tries to save the world. Like, that's all I saw. But I thought it was pretty cool, man. I thought it was like a movie where, you know, I'm not used to Superman getting beat up as much as he got beat up in that movie. You know, there was a little bit of like, man, at some point, you know, Superman's not supposed to take all these punches. But I thought it was pretty realistic. So I thought it was a really good, really good movie. What did you all think of it?
Caller
It.
Matt Jones
I've not seen it. You're the first person I've talked to. They got to see it. The only other thing I hear that people are talking about the dog. I guess it's a fake dog, but it looks like it's a real dog.
Myron Metcalf
It does look. It looks very real.
Shannon
Cgi.
Myron Metcalf
Very, very, very. Everything looks very real. And I saw it in the imax, so it looked. It looked very real. Here's why I bring up Superman.
Shannon
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
Oh, go ahead.
Shannon
No, I was gonna say I haven't seen it yet. I feel like, you know, I've already seen what Superman does. You know, he flies around, he saves the world and everything. I just don't know. How many Superman movies do we need before Hollywood goes, you know what? I think we're going to cut it off there. I guess as long as people continue to go see it, though. Why would you stop making a Superman movie? You know?
Myron Metcalf
No, I mean, they're making all the old movies, Right. Because there's no new ideas. Also where the People seeing the movies.
Shannon
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
You know, I mean, so they know, like, do you come up with some new idea, or do you do the same thing that we've been watching since we were kids? So the reason I bring up Superman is it was a really good movie, but immediately people were coming out and they were saying, this is the greatest superhero movie of all time. This is the most incredible movie, you know, in movie history. And I hate that. Like, why do we feel the need to. The minute something comes out and we literally have just watched it for the first time, why do we suddenly decide that this is the greatest thing that's ever happened? And I feel like with movies, that happens more than anything else. Was Superman good? Yes. I thought it was a pretty, really good movie. I enjoyed it. And I think most people, if you look at the Rotten Tomatoes scores probably did as well. But this isn't the greatest movie of all time. This isn't some. You know what I mean, epic film that you put up there with the Godfather and some of these other films. I just. I don't know how you all feel about it, but I can't stand it when a movie comes out and there's this big buzz and people are like, oh, we've never seen anything better than this. Are you kidding me? Everybody, I feel like, needs to relax after you see a movie and not try to make it bigger than what it is.
Matt Jones
I'm with you. And I kind of worry about the whole industry itself. If this was the movie of the summer, this was the one everybody was anticipating. And it's just a reboot of something we've seen already 15 times. Where are we in the movie industry? You know, come up with something good, something different that we want to go see.
Shannon
Well, I mean, will theaters exist in 10 years from now? I mean, with being able to stream everything at home, do you think that people will still be going to see these movies 10 years from now?
Myron Metcalf
That's a really good question. I mean, my girls don't go to the theater. Yeah. You know, like, they. They. If it's not streamed, they're not watching it. Now, granted, I will take them to the movies, so they'll go with me, but, like, with their friends, no, they. They don't go to the movies like that. So I don't know, man. In 10 years, kind of what the theater industry will look like, because I just think everyone's kind of afraid of, like, doing an original idea. I have an original idea that I think could sell. Right. And it was something I was thinking about on my trip. We've taken a bunch of trips so far this summer, and one of the trips we took was back home in Milwaukee. My parents celebrated 50 years, which was super cool. Had a big event. Black tie affair, tuxedos, all that stuff. Right. But on the way, we passed a little place called Lake Delton, Wisconsin. You guys ever been up to that part of Wisconsin, the Dale?
Matt Jones
Well, we were recently in Milwaukee with the Kentucky, the NCAA tournament.
Shannon
I'm sure we've been by.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, A couple. Couple hours west of there. Right.
Matt Jones
All right.
Myron Metcalf
But this place called Lake Delton. So I have these two cousins, James and John. Right. And they married two sisters. Not sisters sisters. Right. And they live in an Amish town. So as kids, we would get in, like, three vans, my whole family, cousins, everybody. And we go up there and hang out. So you got to imagine, you know, 25 black folks getting out of vans, and then there's these Amish kids. They're looking at us. We're looking at them. Everybody's confused, right? We don't know what's going on. They don't know what's going on. But we all would hang out with my cousins James and John. And James had a giant beach volleyball court, like, in his front yard. He had this giant. Like, he was in the beach volleyball. It was like, one of his favorite thing. So James lost half his arm in a factory accident, right? So this is like the 90s. So we had the hook, you know, the Captain Hook thing that he had. Yeah, right. But James had a volleyball army. So he would like, I'm kid you not. So we get ready to play volleyball, and James would be like, go get my arm. I'm not making this up. This is 100% true. And he would go and strap on his black volleyball arm. Now, here's the thing. You know, it wasn't the right tone. Like, it did. It stood out. Cause it was almost like Will Smith tone, but he looks more like Wesley Snipes. But he would, like, put on his volleyball arm, right? And James was the greatest. I don't know how many black people have played beach volleyball. Like, I don't know the numbers, but it's not something I think is very popular. You know, from what I know, James is the greatest beach volleyball player of all time. I mean, maybe of all time. Black beach volleyball player of all time. So, I mean, you got to think about this. This man has one arm, but he's got his volleyball arm. He's black, living in Amish community, and he's an incredible beach volleyball player. Would you all go see that movie?
Shannon
I feel like, yeah, I would go, absolutely. Now, that arm, it could bump, set, and spike. It was like a three in one. Everything, okay?
Myron Metcalf
Everything. He called for it. He would call for it. He would say, go get my arm. And then, like, his. His partner would come out with his arm. Like, it was like, in a case. I'm not making this up. Like, you can call my cousins. And he was. He was miraculous on the court. Like, it was like, you know, like, he just jumped high. Like he's bumped. He did it all with this arm. And then when he was done, he'd, like, take it off, and then he put on the hook, you know? And there's a part of me that's like, looking back as a kid, there's a Part of me that's like, was he cheating? You know, I don't know the rules, you know, Like, I don't know if the arm gave him an advantage or not. The bionic arm, I don't know. Also, you know, again, it's the 90s. You don't get to. Like, today, you could probably match the tone of something like that. You know, that's the nine. There was no Amazon back then. So it was an interesting look because it looks so different from the color of his skin. But when he put it on, man, it was like he became our Superman. I've never seen a better black beach volleyball player in history than my cousin James, who would call for his volleyball arm. So I think movies like that would sell. I tried to tell my kids about that. They don't really understand, like, how much fun that was.
Shannon
Take the script to Hollywood, man. That's the new Superman movie that comes out next summer, you know, There you go, dude.
Matt Jones
I. I am not. I'm not watching Superman movie. But I'm standing in line for two hours to see cousin Jane with the Will Smith beach volleyball arm.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Knocking people over. I'm wanting to see that one slap.
Shannon
Like, Will Smith is the question, though.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, yeah. A little. A little arrogant to call for your arm. I mean, I'm not.
Matt Jones
Listen, Bring out the arm.
Myron Metcalf
It was a little theatrical, you know. It was a little theatrical, but you.
Matt Jones
As kids were like, oh, cousin James, bringing out the volleyball arm.
Shannon
Get in the arm.
Myron Metcalf
It was. Get in the arms. Get the arm. Listen. Like, that was our version of, like, Hulk Hogan's music, you know what I mean? James is about to put on the arm, and everybody knew he was going to dominate. You know what I mean? Like, it was just incredible. So you gotta imagine that and all of this is happening in an Amish community. Like, I'm not making any of this up. Like, we would get caught behind the horse and buggy, and my dad would get frustrated. It was like a whole thing. But shout out to James. I think that could go and sell in Hollywood. I think we got to take a break here, but, yeah, terrific Tuesday. What's the number? What's the number again?
Shannon
859-280-2287.
Myron Metcalf
Give me your favorite, you know, things that happened to you. Something positive. But also tell me about your favorite relative. Like, tell me about your favorite relative of all time that people should know about. For me, again, James in his arm playing beach volleyball in the Amish community has always stood out for me. What about you? We'll be back after this break.

Matt Jones

Talking about, yep, she can make it, right? Oh, I love Al Green, man. I love me some Al Green. So I did, I did Al Green karaoke one time. Like I just, you know, like that's probably my Al's. Probably my go to karaoke artist. I would feel like, you know, if I were gonna do karaoke, like, I'm probably picking Al Green songs. Who are your go to karaoke artists? Guys? Who's your favorite?
Shannon
Well, the easiest of all time, of course, is the song Tequila. Because you just stand there, the music plays and then you go, tequila. You can't screw that up. That's the one you could be bad at. But everybody could do Ryan. What's yours, Rucker?
Matt Jones
I do a wagon wheel with Shannon. The dudes band, Alice, blue gown, little wagon wheel. That's my go to. Yeah, for sure. Shannon, listen my real quickly. We were in Maine, one of our crazy trips from Kentucky to like New York. We went up through Maine to get there and we went to a karaoke place one night and Shannon gets up there and I'm live recording, live, feeding it, thinking, this is gonna be so funny. Shannon, you know, Shannon, what's he thinking up there and sing. And he killed it. He sang Tonestone Temple Pilots and killed it.
Shannon
And single handedly brought back the band because of that. Right?
Matt Jones
That's right. That night brought back the band.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah. I love it, man. Yeah, everybody should have a go to karaoke song, man. Like I. I really believe that. Ryan, you got to read something. You have to read a. I, I.
Matt Jones
Do, but I'm not ready. Shannon, are you ready for it?
Shannon
Okay, tell them about.
Myron Metcalf
Okay, so let's take some calls.
Shannon
The show sponsor, Ryan.
Matt Jones
Oh, that.
Shannon

Matt Jones

Caller

Myron Metcalf
Appreciate it. I appreciate it. Yeah, man, I love. Man, I love Merry Monday on a Tuesday. You know, like, I love that. That vibe. We got another call.
Shannon
We do. Let's go to Casey.
Myron Metcalf
Casey, how you doing?
Caller
Hey, good morning, fellers. How are you doing, Myron?
Myron Metcalf
Doing well, Doing well. What you got on this Terrific Tuesday? And also your favorite relative you want to tell us about?
Caller
So my favorite relative is about 20 days old. Her name is Sumner. I am a new aunt. It has made my heart just grow. Like, I love babies, I love kids anyway, but being an auntie is just the best. And I'm so excited about watching her play sports growing up. And I got her a bunch of UK clothes and all that good stuff, raising her rights, so. But thank you for taking my call, Myron. I hope you guys have a great day.
Myron Metcalf
You, too. Oh, that's. That's awesome, man. A couple of babies and young people. Like, that always makes me smile, man. Like that. That's pretty cool. That's pretty cool, man. Great relatives, young relatives, Terrific Tuesday act. We're going to continue this. I want people to call in again, tell me something cool. This happened, something positive. Also, your favorite relative. Again, like, should I have told more people about James? I feel like people are reacting like, this is a unique story.
Shannon
Oh, this is the best story you've ever told.
Matt Jones
I mean, this is awesome.
Shannon
Better than the family.
Myron Metcalf
I didn't think it was that unique. I didn't realize it was that unique.
Matt Jones
You know, dude, he's got a beach volleyball arm. Of course we want to know about it.
Shannon
Volleyball arm. They just went to the closet and pulled out.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah. Again, like, I felt like he was really good. And like, now looking back, it was a little bit. It was A little bit arrogant that he called for it, you know what I mean? Like, so we'll be back after this on ksr.
Ryan Lemond
TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call tj.
Myron Metcalf
He'll make him pay.
Shannon
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage, here's Matt Jones.
Myron Metcalf
Al Green. Whatever you want to do is all right with me, man. I love me some Al Green.
Matt Jones
This is baby making music right here.
Myron Metcalf
Well, this is get you in trouble. This is. Let me tell you what Al Green is. Al Green is get you in trouble music and also get you out of trouble music. You know what I mean? Al is. He can help you in any situation. I think I told you all when I did a bunch of shows over the summer, like I'm telling you, Al Green, if you need help in your situation, your relationship, you can literally write down the lyrics to an Al Green song, read them to your special person and it will change things, I guarantee it.
Matt Jones
I'm gonna try it. I'm gonna try it.
Myron Metcalf
He is that good. So again, Al Green makes get you into trouble music and also get you out of trouble music. You just got to kind of figure out which situation that you are in. Back on a terrific Tuesday, Myron Metcalf, fill it in for Matt Jones in here. Mid July, we're like, you know, mid July is such a hard time in our business because you always have something to talk about and discuss. So I'm working on a series, fellas, where I'm doing some of the top teams in college basketball history and I'm trying to put together their all time starting 5, their all time reserves, you know, and then like honorable, honorable mentions and I have one coming tomorrow for a team I won't mention now. But I was thinking about it for Kentucky and the challenge with that, I realized for the team I did it with. So much of the conversation about the all time greats is generational. Right. Like whoever you saw coming up. Yeah. Whoever was your hero coming up.
Matt Jones
Yep.
Myron Metcalf
That's your person. And that was difficult for this team. Tomorrow that's coming out. I feel like it's going to be impossible for Kentucky because you guys got to help me out. I have no idea how to capture an all time look at Kentucky while also being respectful of the generations. Right. Of paying homage to the players who have played 70 years ago but still meant so much. But then how do you weigh that against the Anthony Davis isn't guys like that. I don't know if you guys have any sense of who would be in your top five all Time. But I feel like Kentucky, no matter what I do, I'm going to make somebody upset.
Matt Jones
Yeah, we've had this discussion before. It's so hard because like Dan Issel is the career scoring leader that will never be broken. But you know, people, you gotta. How can you ignore Anthony Davis? So you put issel at the 5, Davis at the 4 or something because they have to do something like that.
Shannon
I think that's what you have.
Matt Jones
But then at the three, you got like Jamal Mashburn, Taysha Givens, Tayshawn Prince. Yeah. And the guards, John Wall, Kyle Macy, master. The leading scoring guard of all time is Keith Bogans. I mean, you gotta. It's tough to come up with a starting five.
Myron Metcalf
So throw out the number again for me.
Shannon
Yep. 859-280-2287.
Myron Metcalf
So this is what I need from callers. Give me your locks on an all time starting five. You don't have to tell me a starting five. Tell me who has to be on the list. I think that's what I need the most. Help with who? Absolutely. If you don't have them in your starting five at Kentucky all time, then the list is invalid. Like that's what I need to figure out. And you know, you all mentioned Dan, who it feels like he is a. He has to be on that list. Right.
Matt Jones
I think he's gotta be on the list. Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
I mean, starting five, it feels like Anthony Davis has to be in your starting five. Then from there it gets tricky. It gets very tricky from there, from there. Because for me, Tayshawn, incredible what he did. Right. But it's hard for me to imagine putting anybody over Jamal Mashburn.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
You know, like just sheer talent. It's hard. That's difficult for me. And then once you get to the guards, I have no idea what you do there because like you mentioned, Ryan, there's so many across generations that you could choose from. How do you, you know, how do you deal with that? And then also, okay, the one to none guys. What do you do with a guy like Demarcus Cousins.
Matt Jones
Yep.
Myron Metcalf
Who you know didn't win a ring. But it's hard to imagine there are that many guys who were better than him in the one year that we saw him at the collegiate level where both he and John Wall were first team all Americans. So for both of you, who are your locks? It could be five guys. But look, who are the guys that you're like, the list is not valid unless these guys are in Kentucky's all time starting 5. On ESPN.
Matt Jones
Shannon, you go first.
Shannon
Yeah, yeah. For me, Dan Issel has to be on there. Yes. I don't think that's a debate. Anthony Davis, I feel like, has to be on there. I feel like he's a lock. I feel like John Wall also should be a lock. I could do. I feel like now the other two, you're. You're two guard or your. Your three, I could be, you know, convinced to switch those out. I would have them at Mashburn at 2, Tayshawn as my small forward at the 3 spot, but I could be convinced otherwise. But I feel like those are my locks. Wall, Davis, Issel, Ryan. Wall's a lock. I feel like he is. Ryan, what do you think?
Myron Metcalf
No, and that's valid. I mean, you know, there's a lot of guards. John Walton, a lot of guards. Feels like a lockdown.
Shannon
But SEC Player of the year, overall number one pick in the draft, you know.
Myron Metcalf
Yes. Other guards who won championships. Right. So I don't, you know. Yeah. And, you know, how do you weigh that?
Matt Jones
If we go on accolades, Willie Collie Stein has probably more accolades than anybody in one other than Anthony Davis. You know, defensive player of the year, SEC player of the year, all first team All American. And then we talked about Oscar Sheway was national player of the year, and he won't even get in this conversation at all. So it is kind of crazy, but conversation. My locks are probably Dan Issel, Anthony Davis, Jamal Mashburn, Jack Givens, and my point guard. I know because it's a generational thing. Like you said, Myron. I'm going Kyle Macy.
Shannon
So, Macy.
Myron Metcalf
So these are all locks for you? Yeah, well, these are locks for you. So these are like. That's your starter five. It has to be.
Matt Jones
That's my starting five.
Myron Metcalf
Dude.
Shannon
If you put Wall versus Macy one on one, though, Wall would cook Macy. You know that, right? Ryan, come on.
Matt Jones
Did John Wall win a championship?
Shannon
No.
Matt Jones
Kyle Mason won a championship thing, though.
Shannon
That's a team thing, not an individual thing.
Myron Metcalf
But see, this is why it's so hard, though. It is. This is why it's so hard. So. So I feel like, okay, Dan Isle, Anthony Davis, if I have those two guys in the starting five, I'm good, right?
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
And then from there, it gets dicey. From there is where it gets dicey. Because you're going to offend somebody.
Matt Jones
We didn't mention Carl Anthony Towns, who is a. On a team that almost went undefeated and was the number one pick.
Myron Metcalf
That's. I mean, again, that I don't know other than Anthony Davis. I don't know what to do with the Cal era in terms of players. Like, I don't know where to put. Again, John Wall feels like has to be in the starting five, but I think there's a case to be made for a lot of other guys. I think DeMarcus Cousins, if it's just one of the best single years we've ever seen at that spot, not over Anthony Davis or Dan. But what do you do with DeMarcus Cousins? Is he on the second team?
Shannon
He's on the platoon team.
Matt Jones
He's on the platoon team.
Myron Metcalf
Like what. What do you do? All right, we got some callers. Maybe these callers could help us. Who's our. Who's our first caller?
Shannon
All right, let's go to jc.
Myron Metcalf
Jc, how you doing? Tell me something cool that's happened on this terrific Tuesday for you.
Caller
Well, not a whole lot going on, but I got. Got a. I think the front court y' all got already is definitely the three locks.
Myron Metcalf
You got. So we got Dan, Anthony Davis, who's.
Caller
Y' all say Master was a lock? Well, no, no. People have seen him play. Come say, okay.
Myron Metcalf
Is he a lot for you, jc?
Caller
Definitely. Yes, he is. Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
Okay.
Caller
Master's a lock. But it looks like our most decorated guard is going to be Shay. And of course, if you have Shea, you have to have Quad A Green. He was in Caliperage mine. Yeah. Ahead of Shay. Anyway, that's my five. I reckon y' all have a good one.
Matt Jones
You know, if we want the point guard on numbers.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Wall had a great year. He's number one pick. But Brandon Knight actually had better numbers than Wall, and Tyler Eulis had better numbers than both of them. Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
I mean, isn't that. Isn't that the hard part? Right?
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's the hard part.
Myron Metcalf
Part is the hard part is. But. But to me, I personally have not seen many collegiate guards in the modern era, let's say the last 25 years that I'm putting above John Wall. Like, if it's. If you tell me I'm starting a team and I need a point guard in the last 25 years. For me personally, it's probably John Wall.
Matt Jones
Yeah. 25 years. Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
So, I mean, the numbers may not add up to what, like a. Ulis didn't necessarily, but he also played next to a first team all American, DeMarcus Cousins. A bunch of young guys on that team. I feel like John Wall, if he wanted to, could average 35 a game. Right. It just There was other talent around him, so we got another call.
Matt Jones
Who else?
Myron Metcalf
That's interesting. Jamal Mashburn is a lock.
Shannon
A lot of people like Jamal, Brian and Franklin. Hey, Brian.
Myron Metcalf
Brian and Franklin. How you doing on this terrific Tuesday? Tell me something good about your week.
Caller
Tuesday, I'm doing phenomenal. Here's my thing, though. I. I, in my mind's eye, can't get over the description that you was giving me about James. So I. In my mind's eye, I am picturing the dude that shows up in the pool hall. He's got his own pool cue in the case and everything. He unzips that thing, pulls it out, screws it together, and just runs the table. I'm seeing him as the dude at the bowling alley that shows up. He's got his own shoes, his own ball. Am I seeing this correctly?
Myron Metcalf
Yeah. I feel like James was probably hustling the Amish community in beach volleyball for, like, 15 years. Like, I think, you know, like, he just. He was. He was. He was that good. Like, he. He was. Again, he's the best beach volleyball player I've ever seen up close, you know? Like, I've never seen, like, the way he would jump. You know what I mean? Like, he was just, like, all over the place once he got the arm right, man. He was. You couldn't mess with him, man. You really couldn't mess with. He was that good. And I don't know. I never saw him use the arm other than volleyball.
Caller
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
Like, it wasn't like I saw him with the arm in other situations. Only for volleyball did I see that arm come out.
Caller
He showed up to the court and his flip flops and then pulls out his sneakers out of the bag and then transforms, and then now he's mj.
Myron Metcalf
She would. She would bring the arm.
Caller
I love.
Myron Metcalf
Bring it to him. Yeah. Nah, that is awesome. Appreciate. Appreciate the call, man. Like, he. I think it was just his volleyball arm, fellas. Like, I don't think. I can't recall another time when he used it, you know?
Matt Jones
So I love the fact that all the kids are, like, waiting around in a circle waiting for cousin James to alert the authorities to bring in his beach volleyball arm so he can go down on the beach volleyball.
Shannon
Did he have, like, another arm for, like, another situation? Like, I don't know.
Myron Metcalf
I saw the two. I saw the two. But, like, he would walk out with swagger. Like, he would walk into the court with swagger. Like, you know, like, I'll show you a little bit. You know what I mean? He knew. He knew how good he was. You know, like he knew he knew how good he was and he wanted everybody else to know too. Man. So shout out James Man Lake Delton, Wisconsin I'm kidding you not. We'd go up there, he would play beach volleyball for hours and he was absolutely incredible. I think we got to take a break here. More terrific Tuesday, more of your takes on all time starting five and your favorite relative after the break.

Shannon

Myron Metcalf
How does that happen?
Shannon
The seltzers are amazing and I feel.
Myron Metcalf
Like I gotta get my address to some of the sponsors so they can send me some of this stuff.
Matt Jones
If you'd ever come see us, we could give you some, some stuff.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, well, I've been, but I've been, I've done shows down there, so, you know, next time I'm gonna, I'm gonna figure it out. So we're having this all time starting five. I'm doing this series with espn. I'm trying to figure out who the lock should be. You know, once I do this piece, it sounds like all time starting five. Kentucky history. Dan Essel, Anthony Davis locks. Right. Like, I think everybody agrees they have to be in your starting five.
Matt Jones
Yep, I think they have to be.
Myron Metcalf
And now it's. It sounded more like people maybe think Jamal Mashburn is a lot. But Ryan, you're getting some text messages about this. What are you seeing this on the.
Matt Jones
A vision glass text machine? Myron absolutely lit up. I mean, I got like 50 of them in that last segment. Most just kind of going through them. Like most people are making an argument for Kenny Skywalker even over mastering it to three all American. I think he's number two in the all time scoring list. And then the other one they're making an argument for is Tony Delk at guard. Yeah, those seem to be the 2 in the. On the aviation glass tech machine, the most.
Myron Metcalf
Can you put. And I know Tony, man. Like, can you put Tony over John? Like, how. How do you. How should I measure that between those two guys? Obviously there's a national champion, right?
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
Tony has that. That gives him obviously a certain edge.
Matt Jones
His jersey's retired already here at Kentucky, but he was more of a two guard than a point guard. Pitino kept trying to make him a point guard, but he was really a two guard.
Myron Metcalf
But, man, I didn't even think about Tony. Tony has a lot. He has a lot of achievements.
Matt Jones
If you put him at two guard, that means you're not going to put in Jack Givens.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah. When you want Jack as a lock. Right. So the thing I give Tony a lot of credit for, and Tony played. I believe that. And you all correct me if I'm wrong. I believe that 96 team, if I'm not mistaken, had 10 NBA guys. I could be wrong on that, but I think I'm close. I believe that's right.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
If it's not exact number, it's very close.
Matt Jones
Sure.
Myron Metcalf
So. So I believe you had 10 NBA guys on that team.
Matt Jones
Unbelievable.
Myron Metcalf
And so Tony, you know, had to deal with fitting into what legitimately is one of the most decorated rosters of all time. You know what I mean? In terms of just like a team that won at this level and then a bunch of guys went on to be successful pros. That's a very rare thing. But I think there were 10 pros on that team, 10 NBA guys. So Tony had to fit into that. Like, so I always think of a guy like Tony and it's like, okay, if you put him with a team where he's the show, where he doesn't have to defer right. Well, he doesn't have to fit in with this immaculate collection of talent. What do his numbers look like? So I just, I give a lot of credit to guys like a Tony dope because who you're playing with matters so much. And of course, he could have done more somewhere else. He did a lot in Kentucky, but could have done more if he had just said, let me go to a place where he let me take every shot and I get to shine. So I like, Tony's a good one, man.
Matt Jones
But like the argument for John Wall would be he played with five first round draft picks. First round draft picks.
Myron Metcalf
He did. I think again, the one and done era is hard. Right. Because I don't want to knock all those guys. Like, I don't want to discredit those guys and say you didn't play long enough to be included. At the same time, you know, Tony was playing with sophomores, juniors, seniors due to, in this era, maybe they would have left after one year, but those were some pretty mature dudes, you know what I mean? And that was just, it's just a different era. But the talent was more experience. So I'm not saying it was easier for John Wall, but this is more of the raw talent era versus, I mean those guys in the mid-90s were seasoned, you know, like those guys were ready 100% to go to the next level. See, that's interesting. Interesting. So Dan is Anthony Davis and we still don't have a lock. It feels like beyond that, it feels like, you know, people are kind of all over the place. Yeah. About who could be that I'm gonna offend somebody. I'm pretty confident in that no matter who I pick. Right. Like, there's no, there's no way for me to do this without making someone upset. That that's fair. Right. Yeah.
Shannon
But I mean, that's the thing though. You want people to talk about it and, and debate it. And that's, that's, that's part of the fun of putting out all these lists. Everybody's got different opinions.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah. I want people to debate, but I also want to me a list like that. The important thing is that people say it's valid no matter what you pick. And that's why, that's why the locks are so important. Like, I feel like if you get the locks down, you're okay, you know what I mean? If you get the three players, four players who have to be on that list, you're good. But if you miss those guys, people laugh, you laugh at you and say they don't respect you. We'll be back after this break on ksr.

Host: Myron Metcalf (filling in for Matt Jones)
Featuring: Ryan Lemond and Shannon
Broadcasted by: iHeartPodcasts and Sports Talk 790 (WKRD-AM)
Myron Metcalf kicks off the discussion by sharing his recent week-long trip to South Carolina and Georgia, delving into his unique experiences and observations. He humorously compares South Carolina to "Tennessee after a divorce," highlighting a sense of reinvention and unpredictability he encountered.
Community Interactions: Myron recounts an encounter where a local insisted he "go to church" while also suggesting that it's okay to "drink a little bit of wine" (00:25). This duality left him pondering the local cultural blend.
Nickname Confusion: At various restaurants, Myron was repeatedly called "sugar." He humorously questions, "Am I a sugar?" indicating a quirky interaction that stood out during his visit (07:18).

Introducing the Terrific Tuesday segment, Myron Metcalf invites listeners to share positive experiences from their week and discuss their favorite relatives.
Personal Anecdotes:

The conversation shifts to the recently released "Superman" movie, eliciting diverse opinions from the hosts and callers.
Myron's Take: He praises the film as a "doggone superhero movie," appreciating its return to Superman's classic role of saving the world. However, he expresses frustration over the hyperbolic praise it received, arguing that despite its quality, it shouldn't overshadow timeless classics like "The Godfather" (11:07).
Shannon's Perspective: Shannon shares his reservations about the endless Superman reboot cycle, questioning the necessity of continuous iterations when audiences might eventually tire of the franchise (12:44).
Host Insights: The hosts debate the future of theaters amidst the rise of streaming services, pondering whether cinematic experiences will persist a decade from now (14:35).
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to an in-depth discussion on selecting Kentucky's all-time starting five in basketball, a topic that sparks passionate debates among the hosts and callers.
Key Players Discussed:
Dan Issel: A unanimous choice for the roster, celebrated as Kentucky's top scorer with no current athlete surpassing his legacy.
Anthony Davis: Another locked-in selection, praised for his exceptional performance and impact on the game.
John Wall vs. Kyle Macy: The debate centers on choosing between these two guards, with John Wall being favored by some due to his explosive career and potential over Kyle Macy's consistent performance.
Jamal Mashburn, Jack Givens, Tony Delk: These players are also strong contenders, each bringing unique skills and accolades to the table.
Notable Quotes:
