This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Ryan Lemon
All right, good morning, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Grandpa's grandmas, aunts and uncles, all you crazy. Any people in big blue nation. Ryan Lemon here for this Tuesday edition of Kentucky Sports radio is Tuesday, July 16th. It is Wednesday, July 16th. My goodness, Shannon, I'm already a day behind. Yeah, been a long week already. So as always, our Kentucky Sports Radio is sponsored by the T.J. smith Law Office called T.J. what happened, Shannon?
Shannon The Dude
He'll make them pay.
Ryan Lemon
He'll make them pay. We'll have our whiskey thief call of the day, which may be kind of tough because we only got a couple segments on the show. We're gonna take some phone calls on the Clark's puppet Shop phone line, 8592-8022-8785-9280, Cats if you want to call and get on board today. And also the Avision glass text machine is my cell phone this week. So we got kind of A fun show planned. We did this last year, Shannon, when we brought on all the TBT guys and talk to every single one of them. It works so well. We're going to do it again this year and why not do it today when it is the slowest sports day of the year? I mean, there's nothing going on. So we're going to have four guys today, four guys tomorrow, and I think even two or three guys on Friday game day. They're going to come in here before game on Friday. So today in the first hour we've got Deandre Liggins and Daron Lamb. And the second hour will be Ansley Amanor and Khalil Whitney. So I'm really kind of excited to talk to all four of those guys today. TBT week comes at a perfect time for us. Gives us something to talk about, get excited about and was such a huge success last year. I'm kind of excited about the tournament this year, Shannon.
Shannon The Dude
Oh, I am too. It was a lot of fun last year, I think, you know, anytime you get to Talk about Kentucky vs. Louisville in the middle of the summer, that's always fun. And you know, yesterday we were talking about our all time starting five and we had that one caller that says that Liggins and Lamb should be locks and the all time starting five. I don't know if I can agree with with that caller, but we got both of them here. Well, with you, I'm in the studio, but with you today on the show. By the way, how's KS Bar looking right now? You know, we're in the middle of that update for the bar. How's it looking?
Ryan Lemon
We are on the patio of KS Bar & Grill where it is completely bare. They've taken out the hostess stand, all the tables, chairs, everything. Completely bare on the patio.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
And inside, as soon as you go in the front door, we've moved the host stand from outside on the patio to as soon as you come in on the front door on your right hand side. So there's a lot of space right now. They're trying to clean things. Actually gonna redo the floors this week and that they just warned me they're gonna be redoing the floors tomorrow while we're here at KS Bar doing the show. So maybe, maybe quite loud tomorrow doing that. But Drew and Abby, Abby and I were here over the weekend kind of moving some pictures and trying to think of some different things to do. Trying to get somewhat of a, of a different look for the relaunch. We wanted to Kind of have a new, updated, different look as well, you know what I mean?
Shannon The Dude
Well, I'm excited about the new food menu items that we tried out. That's going to be really exciting and looking forward to everybody trying those when we reopen. I wanted to ask you though, do you have your paintbrush ready? Because Matt has already said that he's going to have you up on that roof painting the roof blue. Do you have your paint picked out and your, your paintbrush ready to go?
Ryan Lemon
We looked at what he was talking about. I had never noticed it ever in the six years we've had open, I've never noticed that roof. And that may be a. A landlord situation. That's not a KS Bar situation. I don't think that's the awning on over our building.
Shannon The Dude
I think it's a Ryan Lemon situation. Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
And it also connects to our neighbors next door. We just want to just cut. Do half of it blue, then it goes back to green. Faded green.
Shannon The Dude
That would look terrible. No, we can't do that.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. Drew and I looked at it. We're like, that may be something that. Well, it needs to be discussed in future KS Bar meetings, what we're going to do with that up there. So.
Shannon The Dude
Well, that. Look, I think you're just trying to get out of having to get up on a roof and paint.
Ryan Lemon
I am.
Shannon The Dude
And you know what? I, I don't blame you. I wouldn't want to be up there either. He mentioned my name and I'm going, that's what you think? I'm not getting up on that roof. Not that's not happening here, but. So we're well on our way to reopening in the next.
Ryan Lemon
Yes.
Shannon The Dude
Couple of months.
Ryan Lemon
We're looking for mid to late March, April, August, March, April.
Shannon The Dude
Which one is it?
Ryan Lemon
No, we'll be, we'll be open by August. Okay. I think we'll all go getting ready by then.
Shannon The Dude
Okay.
Ryan Lemon
Now we have just a kind of a short segment here because Duron and DeAndre are on their way. They're going to join us at 10:15. So a couple things I want to talk to you about, Shannon, really, for the first time maybe in the history of this show. In the 14 year history of this show.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
I want to be our first topic that you and I talk about. The Major League Baseball All Star Game.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
No, nobody cares. It's an All Star Game. It's lost its luster. But last night, finishing in a six to six tie at the end of nine innings, they did something I didn't even know. They put in place where they have basically a Home Run Derby swing off to determine the winner of the All Star Game. And Shannon, I was more into that than any Major League Baseball All Star Game since Pete Rose bowled over Ray Fosse. I mean, I think it was what baseball needed last night.
Shannon The Dude
First of all, National League, you thought they were going to get a win. They were up six to four, ninth inning. You know, they hadn't won a game in like, what was it like? I think they lost 11 out of 12 games or 10 out of 11, 12. I think something like that. And National League blew. It come back and then it's, you know, tied up and we're like, okay, ninth innings over. What happens now? We just call it a tie, right? Or do we just go to extra innings? No, they bring out the batting cages and we have an impromptu Home Run Derby. And I'm going, what is this? I didn't even know this was a rule. I didn't either, but I feel like this was Major League Baseball's direct response to the people who say baseball's boring. It's so boring, I can't watch it. Oh, yeah, we're just going to have a Home Run Derby right in the middle of the All Star Game. And you know what? I'm fine with it being the All Star Game. It, it, it's all for entertainment anyway. It doesn't mean anything. They don't even have the home field advantage in the World Series anymore. They've got no meaning attached to the All Star Game. So I'm fine with them settling it that way. I just didn't even know that that's the way that they were going to do it. You know, I didn't either. Never even heard that.
Ryan Lemon
Made the All Star Game fun again. I think having something like that, I mean, the anticipation and then Kyle Schwaber steps up and he acts like he's Babe Ruth and hits through three swings. Three home runs kind of sent you for the National League. You know, soccer goes to penalty kicks at the end of a tie. The Ryder cup, you know, they send out their three best guys when it's a tie. Yeah, I heard you and Billy debate this, and I'm kind of on your side about this. I don't want to use it in to, you know, solve a regular season game. But for an All Star Game, I loved it. I thought it was perfect.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I'm good with it in the All Star Game again. But Billy was trying to make the argument that we should have every Regular season baseball game be like this. And I go, you know, we've already made a mockery of it enough as we're putting ghost runners out on second base to start the 10th inning, which I think is crazy, but whatever, I can live with that. But you know the Home Run Derby at the end of the All Star Game, that's fine, but you can't have that in the regular season. At that point you're just changing the game entirely. So.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, well, I. Good move by Major League Baseball. Got some interest in it again. Got some interest in it. All Star Game that nobody really cared about. Right. And I thought it was a great idea. I don't want to see it in regular season. But then again, I don't like him putting a runner on second base. Because you know what? If a guy has a no hitter through nine innings, he goes out to the 10th inning, a runner is already on second base.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
They bun him over to third. No, that's not a hit. Sacrifice fly scores him. That's not a hit.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
And then he strikes out. So he gets out of the inning, but he's. Now he's behind one to nothing. He's got a no hitter.
Shannon The Dude
Well, yeah, but I mean, like, when's the last time you saw a guy throw 10 innings, you know, Gibson. Exactly. So I mean, my point is like, they won't even. Like I was watching an old. It was, I think it was like 92 and Doug Drabeck for the Pirates was throwing 132 pitch. And I'm going, there's no way that would ever happen in today's game. They just, you know they're going to pull the pitcher. Even if he was throwing a no hitter through nine innings, you know, which I guess in that game the score had to be zero to zero. You're not going to see that. So the scenario that you laid out, I don't think is, is very likely to ever happen, like, especially in today's game.
Ryan Lemon
Do you like those soccer? They do penalty kicks at the end of games in, you know, the regular season playoffs, wherever it is they go.
Shannon The Dude
They go to penalty kicks like sudden death. Right. I don't watch enough soccer to really have a strong opinion on it, but you know, I'm fine with that. But you know baseball, it was fun for the All Star game. Let's just leave it as it is for the regular season game though.
Ryan Lemon
So as we said, it's TBT day. The TBT guys play on Friday night, just Shannon and I here. Billy will join us for the second hour. But a couple things. A couple housekeeping things I want to take care of first. Everybody, when you say your prayers tonight, your thoughts and prayers. Remember Drew and Drew's mom. That's why Drew's off today. She's got some medical issues she's dealing with. I'll let him explain if he wants to. He can explain it when he comes back. But just know that Drew and his family and his mom and dad and sister, they need us right now. So remember the Franklin family in your prayers, for sure. And just something personally, I was blown away last night. The ladies of ksr, for the second time, have come to my rescue, and I am just. I'm a lost for words because thank you is not near enough. You know, everybody thinks this ladies of KSR is just a Facebook group. They're more. A lot more than a Facebook group. They reach out and help people that are part of big blue nation, and they show a lot of love and compassion and just on behalf of Josiah, I mean, when my house caught on fire, ladies of KSR stepped up and just went way above and beyond taking care of some things for Josiah that he lost in the fire. And now they've done it again. Shannon. I mean, it just blows my mind how thoughtful and compassionate and loving these ladies are. And I know some of them personally. Some of them I've never met. Most of them I've never met. And what they did last night just totally, just blew me away. And I can't say thank you enough. It just. It. No, it just. Know that you've earned your wings. God bless each and every one of you, and I'm very, very, very thankful.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, they're the absolute best. When my grandmother passed away, they were there. They're like a big support group, so.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. Good way to put it.
Shannon The Dude
A big thank you to the ladies of K are for everything that they do.
Ryan Lemon
All right, we'll take our early break. The guys are allegedly en route. I think Shannon, though, Durant Lamb's kind of famous for oversleeping.
Shannon The Dude
Oh, is he okay? Okay.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. I think there's a story where he was in an NBA tryout and he. He was in the hotel, and he overslept and missed the tryout. I think there's some kind of story like that that.
Shannon The Dude
That wouldn't happen again, though. That wouldn't happen today.
Ryan Lemon
No, I wouldn't happen again. But apparently there's going to be, like, a. A shuttle bringing two guys and then bringing the other two guys, and then tomorrow is Willie Collinstein The Harrison twins and somebody else. I can't remember who it is. Okay. But one guy we won't have is Jesser.
Shannon The Dude
Oh, that's a shame.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, I know. Shannon, you're really disappointed that Jesser won't make the trip and be. He was going to come on the show with this. I mean, that's what I think that was more exciting than him playing in the tournament.
Shannon The Dude
Do you think that maybe he realized that he was going to have to talk to the world heavyweight radio champion and goes, you know what? This isn't worth it. This guy apparently doesn't want me to be on the team. I'm just going to step away right now. You think maybe that's what happened?
Ryan Lemon
And tell me he was listening. Yeah. And heard you talking some smack. Anyone? Any part of Shannon the dude. But apparently there were some scheduling issues with him and he's not going to be here. So the river, they replaced him with Marquees Warwick, who's a Henry Clay alum, leading scorer in Henry Clay history.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
Went to Northern Kentucky for like three years, four years, and then finished up at Missouri last year.
Shannon The Dude
I would say that's a good upgrade.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, you got a guy that can flat out play against a guy that could play pickup ball in somebody's driveway. Who you gonna take? You gonna take Marquees Warwick?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. I mean, in all seriousness though, like what? Like I gave a strong opinion on what I thought about bringing on influencers on the TBT team. Like, what's your honest opinion on it? Like, do you like that they were trying to bring on a YouTube guy to be on the TBT or you like me and you're like, this is ridiculous. What are we doing? We're trying to win this thing. Why are we bringing on influencers?
Ryan Lemon
Well, they weren't obviously bringing him on to help the team and be a contributor. They were bringing him on for the publicity, the social media content. Trying to give the TBT team some exposure.
Shannon The Dude
To me though, they get a spot on the roster, though, they're just bringing them in to hang out with the crew and be like a manager. They're putting them on the roster.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, he wasn't going to play. I mean he played very, very, very little. But I think they were just looking for that publicity content because the dude does a lot of like basketball type videos and things. Like he had 10 year olds playing against 70 year olds in a video. So that's what they were looking at. So I from that aspect, if we knew up front, hey, we're not Counting on this guy to help us. We're just counting on him for some pr. Just be flat out up front about it. I think I'd be okay with it.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. Like, I guess you'd be surprised as to how many people would watch a video of a guy sitting on a bench. Very true. Doesn't sound like anything I would watch on YouTube. But the guy, you know, he's very successful on YouTube, you know, and, you know, it's great, but I just think it's crazy that they're trying to put him on a roster for something like.
Ryan Lemon
This, because last night I was talking to a group of, like, college kids. There were probably six or seven, maybe eight of them.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
And we were talking about it. Every single one of them knew who he was, and every single one of them had watched these videos. And I'm like, I had no clue who he was until they announced he was on the team. Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
But, I mean, I know who a lot of people are, you know, Like, I know who Samuel L. Jackson is, but I don't want him out there balling for Kentucky in the tbt.
Ryan Lemon
Come on, man. That'd be cool if Samuel Jackson was on the team.
Shannon The Dude
No, it would be.
Ryan Lemon
I got uniform.
Shannon The Dude
I don't think he can go out. He's gonna get dunked on if he goes out there.
Ryan Lemon
You know, he's on the team.
Shannon The Dude
Let's go see. You're not helping my argument.
Ryan Lemon
Team photo make put him on the poster. So no Jesser. All right, we'll take our break, come back. Hopefully the guys will show up here pretty soon. I keep looking around, Got my head on a swivel, but I don't see him yet. We are live on the patio at KS Bar and Grill. The guys will be here. I know some. Some people I think are maybe wanting some autographs and things if they want to come by. I'm sure the guys will be good about it. I mean, they were great when they were here last year at the restaurant. If you got something you want them to sign. We got Duron and Deandre the first hour, and then Khalil Whitney and Ansley Aminor the second hour. If you want to get them to sign something, I'm sure they will. All right, we'll take our break. Come back. 859-280-2287. That's the Clark's Puppy Shop phone number. Ryan and Shannon only. No Matt, no Drew, no Billy, no Mario. You got the two old guys, Ryan and Shannon. We'll be right back.

Welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio live on the patio at KS Bar and Grill. Ryan and Shannon today on this wacky Wednesday edition of KS Bar. Because most of the guys are gone on vacation, a little time off before football season starts. So we're waiting on Duron Lamb and Deandre Ligon. So we do have a phone call if you want to call and get on board now we'll go ahead and take some calls. 859-280-2287. That's the phone number. Clark's Puppy Shop phone number. So who we got? Shannon.
Shannon The Dude
Let's go to Adam.
Ryan Lemon
Adam. Go ahead, Adam.
E
Hey, guys, first of all, I think we should settle any tag game after nine innings. We'll just have a donut eating contest. How many can you get down in 15 minutes?
Shannon The Dude
I like that. That's a great idea.
Ryan Lemon
You know what that is? That's our whiskey thief. Not call of the day. Thank you, Adam. Appreciate that. So, Shannon, I mentioned I was talk to some college kids last night. I was at the Legends game about several Legends games this summer. I'm the guy when they say, let's go down on the field for the dizzy bat race with Ryan Lemon. So I'm that guy down on the field.
Shannon The Dude
Oh yeah, the mc.
Ryan Lemon
The mc. Yeah. Yeah. So how many times, how many people do you think came up to me and talked to me about eating donuts?
Shannon The Dude
Probably everything.
Ryan Lemon
Higher. Higher. Make a guess.
Shannon The Dude
Higher or lower?
Ryan Lemon
Higher. Take a guess. Higher.
Shannon The Dude
Do you have an actual number?
Ryan Lemon
It was over a hundred. Over. Well, and I am not exaggerating it. Was everybody like, hey Ryan, those donuts taste and sorry you didn't make to eat the donuts. Like, yeah, I know, I'm a complete failure. I get it.
Shannon The Dude
So do you do that, do you do that at every Legends game or just.
Ryan Lemon
No, I do. Like just a couple of months. I think I've done maybe six this summer. Right now I got a couple more coming up. So. Yeah, I actually, I enjoy it. It's kind of fun.
Shannon The Dude
But I got something I want to tell you about that in just. Adam's still with us, but I don't know. Did Adam. Adam, did you have a question?
E
Yeah, actually wanted to. Y' all were talking with Myron about the all time, you know, Wildcats and I, I don't believe this to be true, but just wanted to throw this out there that you can make the case. That big Nazi, I mean, three Final Fours, two national championships, spent 18 years in the NBA. That's pretty impressive.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. Appreciate the phone call, Adam. I mean, we were trying to just look at guys, just what they do, what they did at Kentucky. That's why, you know, Shay Gilgis can't be on our all time starting five. Even though he's gonna end up being maybe the greatest pro of the Cal era. Him or A.D. one or the other. So you know, Nazi, Wayne Turner, Cameron Mills, Jeff Shepard, Scott Padgett, these guys that went to won two championships and went to three straight Final Fours. You can't deny that. But do they end up on our all time starting five? Shannon? I don't know. I don't think I can make that argument.
Shannon The Dude
I mean, Kentucky is so hard to go through all the great players. And if you're looking at what they just did at Kentucky, and you're right, you made this point yesterday I thought was a good point. It kind of depends on like when these guys come in. Like John Wall coming in right after the Gillespie era was huge for Kentucky. Right. Mashburn coming in, you know, after, after Eddie Sutton and being on probation and everything. So a lot of that too. Like how we remember, remember these players has to do with when they came in. You know, they came in when the program needed a boost. And I think that's the case for Wall and Mashburn and their respective eras playing here at Kentucky.
Ryan Lemon
100%. You're exactly right. They came along and helped revive the program when the program needed it the most. Those two guys, you can't take that away because like we said, you look at just. If you're looking at just numbers, well, Brandon Knight had better numbers than John Wall. De' Aaron Fox had better numbers than John Wall. I think even Tyler Eulis, his sophomore season had better numbers than John Wall. But what John Wall meant and stood for in his program, you can't deny he is one of the most valuable cats of all time.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, yeah. There's no doubt about it. Now, I wanted to go back to. You were mentioning the Legends game. I wanted to tell you they asked me to throw out the first pitch at the Legends game on the 29th. So I was wondering if you were going to be there maybe doing one of your MC jobs at the calendar.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, see, I didn't know this.
Shannon The Dude
Yes.
Ryan Lemon
Well, no, it's a Tuesday night. I'm going to request it. I'm going to request that I do Tuesday 29th. There you go. And harass you as you throw out the first pitch.
Shannon The Dude
That would be a lot of fun. I mean, I'm going to be there regardless. So, you know, if you're there too, that would be a lot of fun.
Ryan Lemon
That's awesome.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
Well, last night, one of the guys that threw out the first pitch was Charlie Higginbottom. Higginbottom, who's the leader of the 101 Club. And I told him, what do you do, Charlie? Just don't bounce it. Don't bounce it. You have to lob it up there. Well, he lobbed it. Somebody just pulled up with some Jeff donuts. Oh, God. They're just giving it a thumbs down.
Shannon The Dude
They're just here to taunt you. Now.
Ryan Lemon
They are taunted.
Shannon The Dude
They're gonna sit there and eat the donuts right in your face.
Ryan Lemon
Because Jeff donuts right here in front of KS Bar and Grill. So he got it, and he comes over here and he's trying to give me a box of Jeff donuts. I gave him a big thumbs down. I don't know if I'll ever eat another glazed donut. I know I'm not gonna eat a glazed donut anytime soon. That's for sure.
Shannon The Dude
I wanted to ask you about that because I know people have said, like, when they've tried to do competitive eating, that they, you know, you just get sick off of it and you don't ever want to eat it again. And I was wondering if. If you're like that with, you know, that particular donut, or is it just glazed donuts or is it donuts in general that you just don't want to even think about now because you did that contest.
Ryan Lemon
I can't quit donuts cold. I can't. But I can't quit. I can't quit you, but I can quit glazed donuts. I don't. There's no. I am. I'm not gonna eat a glazed donut for a long time unless it's, like, Spalding. I can eat a Spalding glazed donut.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
And I could eat, like, you know, I like apple fritters, and I like long johns that are stuffed with cream. I don't, you know, that kind of stuff. But I. No way I can eat a glazed donut. I can't even think about eating a glazed donut. Well, because I think I told you guys this on Monday. Yeah, I threw him up.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
I laid down after you guys left, and my stomach started doing cartwheels and I threw them up. So I like. No way I want any part of a glazed donut.
Shannon The Dude
But you eat a Long John, though. We can call you. We call you Long John Ryan now.
Ryan Lemon
That's what they call me anyway. 859-280-2287. I didn't finish my story about Charlie Higginbottom. Yeah, I told him. He said, whatever you do, don't bounce it. Just don't base. So I said, just lob it. Just don't want to bounce it. Well, he lobbed it, but he loved it so high it bounced at home plate right before it got to the catcher.
Shannon The Dude
No, that's on the catcher, too. Are you throwing to an actual catcher or are you throwing to, like a mascot? Because when I've thrown out the first pitches for like the Louisville Bats, you're throwing to the mascot.
Ryan Lemon
Well, this is a player, but he's like a pitcher who is not, you know, like a starting pitcher that pitched two days ago, you know, not going to be in the game today. So you pitch, you throw it to a real player, but it's not the starting catcher or anything.
Shannon The Dude
They're putting a lot of trust out there, you know, my fastball and they're putting their starting pitcher out there. I mean, I wouldn't want to injure anybody, you know, you.
Ryan Lemon
They may sign you on the spot.
Shannon The Dude
That's right.
Ryan Lemon
Starting rotation.
Shannon The Dude
That's exactly what I'm saying.
Ryan Lemon
So it's the July 29th. Shannon, the dude throwing out the first pitch at the Legends game, I'm going to make sure I'm working that night so I can harass you and make fun of you the whole night. So, you know, we, there were a bunch of people there last night. It was $2. Tuesday. They get. They're getting good crowds again over the Legends ballpark. So it is kind of fun. Shannon, you'll have a good time.
Shannon The Dude
I've never actually been to a Legends game, so that'll be my first. Looking forward to doing that. And we'll see you there on the 29th.
Ryan Lemon
I got a couple more Legend stories we'll tell later, but we're still waiting on Daron Lamb and Deandre Liggins. All points bulletin out. We'll be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call tj. He'll make him pay.
Shannon The Dude
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Ryan Lemon
Welcome back. I know those of you listening on podcast won't be able to appreciate what we're hearing right now. Darius Rucker singing Wagon Wheel. Just the best singer in the history of country music. Singing Wagon Wheel. Shannon, I gotta admit, my heart went out to Darius. You know, he, he and I are born the same year. He just had a birthday. So my birthday's coming up next month. We're getting up there a little in our age, a little bit.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
But he actually, for the first time in his career while on stage after singing Wagon Wheel, told the crowd, guys, I just can't do it. I've lost my voice. I thought I could pull through. But he stabbed his step off the stage for the first time without completing a concert. My heart Goes out to Darius, man.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. You know, some nights you just don't have the fastball. Some nights it's just not working for you for whatever reason. But he did say that he was issuing refunds, which is the right move to make. But, yeah, I'm sure it was disappointing for everybody who, you know. You know, you got to think about when you go to a concert, a lot of people are coming from out of town and they're getting hotel rooms, and it's more than just showing up and, you know, watching a concert, it's like a. A full on event for a lot of people. So, yeah, I hate that that happened. But, you know, it's. It's live and I at least commend him for trying. And he's not going up there and just phoning it in like a lot of musicians do today and, you know, use backing vocals that aren't really theirs and, you know, half of what you're hearing really isn't live. You know, at least. At least he gave it a. An effort. You know, he couldn't get through it, but he tried.
Ryan Lemon
I want to say this too. Back in 2001, maybe 2002, when Hootie and the Blowfish was still doing shows, they did a show, downtown Lexington at the Kentucky Theater. It's the only time I've seen Hootie and the Blowfish live. And they said before the show that Darius was. Had an IV that morning. He was so sick, so dehydrated, that before he flew out of Charleston, he had an IV and it was taking meds the whole day. Well, of course he gets on stage and he goes, man, you're. I'm in Kentucky. I've been sick all day. Bourbons my only medication tonight. So he started slamming bourbon.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, and he.
Ryan Lemon
But he finished the show. Maybe that's the secret, Darius. Maybe you should have just started slamming Kentucky bourbon while you're on the stage. I think it was in like New Jersey or New York or something.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I mean, you know, these guys are human just like the rest of us. Sometimes we have to call in sick. When you're a musician, you're on the road, sometimes you got to call in sick. It's just, you know, it happens.
Ryan Lemon
We got a couple callers we're going to get to in just a second here on the Clark's Pumping Shop phone line. But Corey Price sent us the stat. Shannon. Okay, the last time a pitcher in the big leagues threw at least 10 innings in a regular season Major League baseball game was in 2012. A guy named Cliff Lee. I don't even know who that is.
Shannon The Dude
Cliff Lee? Yeah. Sounds familiar.
Ryan Lemon
You know, but it used to be regular where a starter would go a full nine innings. Now a guy goes six, they yank him out of there. But the last time somebody went into the 10th inning was in 2012, and.
Shannon The Dude
I don't think we'll ever see it again. I think that there's so much of an emphasis on pitch count now. There are counting pitches instead of the innings.
Ryan Lemon
8, 5, 9, 2, 8, 0, 2, 2, 8, 7. Who we got? Shannon.
Shannon The Dude
All right, let's go to court.
Ryan Lemon
Court. Go ahead, Court.
E
Hey, I thought you guys did a fine job doing the donut eating contest, especially the way y' all were commentating while Ryan was eating them. It was almost like watching a sporting event or something. The next challenge y' all got to do is a hot pepper challenge.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, Ryan, that's next for you. Get your hot peppers ready.
Ryan Lemon
First of all, I don't like hot peppers. I can't eat hot peppers. I can't do it. That's one thing I cannot do is eat a hot pepper or a hot food like that.
E
Yeah, I'd like to see all y' all try to do the hot pepper challenge. That's. That's the next one up.
Shannon The Dude
I think that's a hard no for me. You know who loves hot stuff, though, is our boy Matt. I think, you know, he's.
Ryan Lemon
He's the guy.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. He won't do any kind of challenge, but if he were to do it, I feel like that's one that maybe he would, you know, be suited for.
Ryan Lemon
And he's the. He's the one guy of my friends I know that would win. I got a couple of friends that like hot stuff. Really hot stuff. Matt's one of those guys that I think could do it.
Shannon The Dude
I like it a little bit hot, but when it gets so. So much to the point to where it's like, literally burning your tongue and your mouth, it's uncomfortable at that point. And I'm going, okay, I don't enjoy this anymore. So I. I like a little bit of hot, but I can't get, like, you get into the. The ghost pepper and that level of hot, it's. It's. That's where I check out my son.
Ryan Lemon
Josiah loves it. He'll sit there and eat something so hot that his mouth is open and he's drinking like crazy and then go take another bite. Yeah, he loves it.
Shannon The Dude
Like, if. If it's so hot that I've got to drink milk just to be able to, you know, get it down. It's not enjoyable, so I'm not doing it.
Ryan Lemon
Who's our next caller?
Shannon The Dude
Chan. John.
Ryan Lemon
John, go ahead. John.
E
How you doing, guys?
Ryan Lemon
How you doing, John?
E
I'm doing good. Hey, I wanted to bring up Rex Chapman again as one of the top Kentucky players. He was only at Kentucky two years, and he also played small forward. Davinger and James Blackman playing alongside him, and they weren't a great team, really, you know, but Chapman scored 26 Louisville, and I think if he would have stayed all four years, he broke a lot of scoring records. And another guy I wanted to mention that won't be in anybody's top five and never gets any love is Keith Bogan just because he was a heck of a scorer and never gets any attention. So I wanted to bring him up.
Ryan Lemon
Appreciate that. Yeah, we did talk about Bogans. He's the leading scoring guard in Kentucky basketball history, which is crazy. But Rex. I'll say this about Rex Shannon. He was maybe the biggest rock star during a season we've ever had. Him and John Wall were rock stars. I mean, it was so exciting when he picked Kentucky over Louisville. Wreck. They called it Rexington. They showed sold shirts that said Rexington. And then when he left, they sold shirts said young and the Rexless. He's. If I had rank rock stars, Rex is probably top of the list.
Shannon The Dude
And if you're Rex Chapman, you have to be thinking, looking at today's world of college sports going, man, wonder how much nil money I would have made. Oh, imagine the deals that he would have gotten if nil existed back then.
Ryan Lemon
I think the guys who would benefit the most, Rex and Richie Farmer. Those two guys would have just killed it in the NIL world if they were still playing. 859-280287. We got another call. Shannon, who is it?
Shannon The Dude
All right, let's go to Tim.
Ryan Lemon
Tim. Go ahead, Tim.
E
Hey, guys. You guys touched on something earlier that's gonna happen for us tomorrow. My daughter gets to throw out the first pitch at the Legends game.
Ryan Lemon
Nice.
E
The Dream Factory and Make a Wish Foundation. She survived cancer at nine months old.
Ryan Lemon
Wow. So how old is she now?
E
She's nine and she plays softball. And I was in the marines, but I tell everybody she's my hero, so.
Ryan Lemon
Amen.
E
But one other thing.
Ryan Lemon
Hold on one second. Tell her. Go ahead, tell her. Tell her to scoot up. She didn't have to throw from the. The pitching rubber.
E
Oh, yeah, she can make it from There. She can make it from there, but, yeah, we're gonna have her screwed up a little bit. Yeah. But with the. The starting five, I don't think there's any way that you can do that for a team like Kentucky unless you break it down by decade.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, for sure.
E
In my opinion, there's only maybe four schools in the entire country that has that problem, and Kentucky is at the top of that list.
Ryan Lemon
Amen. Yeah. Appreciate the phone call. Yeah. I mean, that's what. That's why, you know, kind of hard for us yesterday, just spitballing different guys because you can go a bunch of different ways. Maybe doing it by decades is the. The best thing. And you. You pick the best player from each decade. And maybe I heard. I saw somebody say, make that your starting five, but it just kind of. Just kind of a fun summer talk topic, and it's something that really, everybody had an input on last night.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. And, you know, Myron is doing this for a bunch of different teams. I would say that this is probably going to be the most difficult team for. For him to do, because Kentucky has so many great players throughout the years. I mean, most. If you go around the country, most schools, there's a definitive starting five all time. But Kentucky's just got such a great history and so many great players. It's really hard to narrow it down to just five guys.
Ryan Lemon
And you can't just go with the top five leading scores.
Shannon The Dude
Right.
Ryan Lemon
I mean, it is Issel, Walker, Givens, Bogans. Those are your top four. I think you can't just do that. You got to see, I think, what they meant to the program. That's why I think Mashburn has to be. And you make a good argument about Wall. That's why Wall would maybe be ahead of guys like, you know, Kyle Macy or Ralph Beard.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, it felt like Kentucky's back once John Wall. You know, it all kind of started with Midnight Madness. Right. With the John Wall dance and John Wall Dance, you. I'm not putting him on there because he's a great dancer, but he was, you know, a great basketball player. And I think that the timing has. Has a lot to do with that as well.
Ryan Lemon
859-28-02287. That's the Clark's Puppy Shop phone number. I got something now from the. A Vision glass text machine. This is from our buddy Vinnie. Which challenge did you like the best, the putts or the donuts? Come on, man. Come on, Vinnie. I failed at both of them.
Shannon The Dude
We gotta find one that you can do, like, we gotta have, like, the Ryan Lemon Redemption Tour. Like, is there something you could do that you're confident you could do?
Ryan Lemon
Well, I did the. The push up challenge. I did the Running around Applebee's Legends Ballpark challenge.
Shannon The Dude
What was the push up? I don't even remember the push up challenge.
Ryan Lemon
I think he had people try to guess how many push ups I could do without stopping.
Shannon The Dude
And there was no money on the line or anything, though.
Ryan Lemon
No. No money on the line. No.
Shannon The Dude
Okay.
Ryan Lemon
No.
Shannon The Dude
So. So what we found out is that anytime there's money on the line, you choke literally on donuts.
Ryan Lemon
I did on the donut. I'm telling you, Shannon, if I had one more minute, one more minute, I think I could have stuffed that last one in my mouth.
Shannon The Dude
I don't think you could.
Ryan Lemon
I started too slow. I just. They were so thick and dense, I couldn't chew and swallow those big old things.
Shannon The Dude
Well, the. The message that everybody was getting. I even got one from my mom. She sent me a text, and the message said, I just feel bad for Ryan. And that was everybody's response. I just feel bad for Ryan. So you did get everybody's sympathy for not finishing 10 donuts.
Ryan Lemon
Well, make sure you tell your mom I said, hey, what's up? How you doing?
Shannon The Dude
First of all, you got a girlfriend, and my mom is married. Okay. So what are you doing?
Ryan Lemon
All right, we'll take our break. Guess what? Still no Deandre Liggins and Duron Lamb. We're live on the patio here at KS Bar and Grill. You know, now I'm worried about. Now I'm worried about Khalil Whitney and Anthony Almanor the second.
Shannon The Dude
So you know what? This reminds me of something. You getting stood up. This reminds me of when they had us do. It's just lunch, and they would pair us with, like, random people. They were, oh, yeah, you're a great match for Cindy over here. And why don't you go ahead and meet at this restaurant at this time? And I would show up, and my date never would show up. You're kind of getting the same treatment that I got for. It's just lunch right now with the basketball players. So now you know how I felt.
Ryan Lemon
And you know what happens on a perfect day when Matt's not here, Drew's not here, Mario's not here, Billy's not here yet.
Shannon The Dude
You and I are here. That's all that matters, right?
Ryan Lemon
That's all it matters. There's no nothing going on in the sports world right now.
Shannon The Dude
Here's the thing. Remember when you and I did that? You and I had to be on the air for an hour straight. Was it at. It was at Fort Knox when Drew and Matt were jumping from the plane and there was nothing going on. We couldn't go to a break. We didn't have any cell phone connection. We couldn't look up like anything on the Internet. That was the worst radio we've ever done before. But look, right now it's just you and I. We can go to a break anytime we want to. We got, we got the Internet. We're good. We're all good here.
Ryan Lemon
Dude, I'm telling you, that was the worst radio show in the history of radio. When something went down in the studio and we couldn't take calls, we couldn't go to break. We had just talked non stop out in the middle of BFE and on Fort Knox, waiting on Matt and Drew to jump out of an airplane.
Shannon The Dude
I think you and I were ready to jump out of an airplane that day.
Ryan Lemon
That was awful. All right, let's go ahead and take a break. Give us a call. Today's your day. We'll take Your phone call. 859-280-2287. The Clark's Puppet Shop phone number. Ryan and Shannon and nobody else here on Kentucky Sports Radio.

All right. Welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan and Shannon. I'm here on the patio at KS Bar and Grill. The TBT guys. Our first two guests have Duron Lamb and Deandre Liggins. But Khalil Whitney is here. I'm really anxious to talk to him, Shannon. I mean, it's kind of good to catch up with him and see what he's been doing. So we'll talk to him in just a minute. But we got some phone calls we want to get to real quick. So who's our first caller? Shannon.
Shannon The Dude
All right, let's go to Brad.
Ryan Lemon
Brad. Go ahead, Brad.
E
Hello. Yeah. The mystery on the missing chair. There's a gang of thieves operating nationwide. They block the WI FI signal. It takes down the security system. They do this neighborhood wide. So your neighbors have probably lost things too. And they may have burglarized your house. You want to check into that?
Shannon The Dude
I've got the only way around.
Ryan Lemon
We got an update. We have an update. Shannon, what's your update on that around deck chair?
Shannon The Dude
What were you saying, Brad? I was gonna let him finish what he was saying real quick.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, my bad.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
E
The only way around it is to get hardwired cable and it has to be buried or aerial.
Shannon The Dude
Gotcha. Okay. Thanks for that, Brad. I appreciate. By the way, this is a pre show topic. I guess that's bleeding over into KSR because Ryan, you and I haven't even talked about this on the KSR show. But I was telling Billy on the pre show that down in Panama City beach where I have my condo, I went out and I bought this really nice rocking chair for my front porch because, you know, I rent my condo out. I want want my renters to Be comfortable and have, you know, nice furniture out there on the front porch. And I had renters in there today and they said, your rocking chair is now gone. It's missing. And I, I paid good money for this rocking chair.
Ryan Lemon
Ryan, this is you were very proud.
Shannon The Dude
Of, not some cheap chair we're talking about. This chair was hundreds of dollars and it just was missing all of a sudden. And I have a ring doorbell camera right there in front of it. I'm going now, how in the world, after going back and reviewing the tape and could this chair just be missing and it not show up on, on the, the ring? You know, when you go back and you look at your past footage and you know, every time that somebody walks by it, it sets off that motion detector and you can see what happened. So this chair was just missing. And then I, I posted in our condo like Facebook community page about it and 30 minutes later, it's now back. So I have no idea. And I go back and I look on there and again it's just there. It doesn't show, show at all any notification. So I couldn't even see who returned it.
Ryan Lemon
But it's your buddy, your buddy playing a prank on you, maybe.
Shannon The Dude
I hope so. You know, we've already called the, the front office and we've got security on high alert down there in Florida looking for a rocking chair that was stolen. But it's now back. And somehow I got back without being able to see who returned it. But that's the thing. I, I said, look, next time if you want to borrow the chair, just ask me. Don't steal it.
Ryan Lemon
That's too funny. So the Adirondack chair is back.
Shannon The Dude
It is back.
Ryan Lemon
All right, we are joined now by our first interview on the TBT week here they play on Friday night. Former Kentucky Wildcat Khalil Whitney is back in town. Back in Lexington. Had a big old smile on your face when you walked up and you said, man, it's good to be back.
F
Yes, sir, it is a pleasure to be back in the city of Lexington, man. It's great. Took a five hour trip, trip up from Chicago. Very smooth. And the fans have been supporting me and backing me. It's been great since I got in town.
Ryan Lemon
I heard you gave an interview, I think it was this weekend. Yeah, I gotta put that right by your mouth. It's kind of tough, all that hair you got right there. And you said you, you wanted to come back and get a chance to feel the love of Kentucky Wildcat fans that you kind of missed when you were here as a player.
F
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
Talk about that a little bit.
F
Yeah, just the short time I spent here, I don't feel like I got the full experience of just the fans and the full program, unfortunately. But ever since I've been back, you know, since I posted the tick tock and then blew up, the fans have been, you know, very supportive and it's been, it's been very motivational for me. So I really appreciate it.
Ryan Lemon
Now you're still playing though, right? Yeah, we've been playing at this came.
F
From Australia playing for coach Patrick Ewing Jr. For the South Metro East Pirates.
Ryan Lemon
And the NBL in Australia.
F
Australia, yes, sir.
Ryan Lemon
I guess there are worse places to play. That's not a bad place to play if you're playing in Australia.
F
Australia is beautiful, man. It's super Americanized and I mean it's probably one of the best places I've played as a professional, so.
Ryan Lemon
And how many years you been playing there?
F
This is my first year. I played there for six months.
Ryan Lemon
So kind of walk us through from Kentucky. Where have you been and where did you go after that?
F
So my first year out I went undrafted, signed with Charlotte Hornets. That was a G league bubble. So we played about 11 to 12 games in there. The next year I got traded to the Rockets and then I ended up playing a two way with the Rockets and won a G league championship there with my former teammate Gerald Green. I played with Willie Collie Stein with the Rockets as well.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, second year.
F
And then after that I, I broke my big toe. So I had to sit down for about four or five months and then that went out. That's when I, I did my first overseas stint. I went to the Dominican Republic. That was like, I think my first time going overseas. And then after that I went to Canada. Been in Croatia.
Ryan Lemon
Wow.
F
Yeah, I've been, I've been a lot of places. I've been in New Zealand. So I get, I can hang my hat on and say I've been around a few countries around the world, but the best place I think I've played far is just basketball and just like sightseeing. Everything. I would say Croatia. Croatia is number one for me.
Ryan Lemon
It's always kind of cool to talk to you guys when you play overseas. You're getting world experiences that we all don't get to explore. You get it because you can play basketball, but you're playing basketball in these great countries across the world. Yeah. How about that?
F
Yeah, it's a blessing. It's a blessing. I wake up every day feeling Blessed that I could do. Do what I love and get paid for it. So I just thank God every day. So. It's amazing.
Ryan Lemon
He's Khalil Whitney. He's our first guy to arrive. Shannon Doron and DeAndre were supposed to be here at 10:15.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, that's.
Ryan Lemon
That was 45 minutes ago. They haven't shown up.
Shannon The Dude
You think maybe they're on Central time? Maybe they. Maybe they'll be here next.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, geez. Here Khalil shows up 30 minutes early. I think that's exactly what we're talking about right here.
F
Dunkin Donuts. Drive through when I got the call.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, you got to bring up donuts. Everybody wants to talk about donuts.
Shannon The Dude
Does he know about the.
Ryan Lemon
Ryan, he probably didn't even know about it. I'll tell you about during the break. Okay.
F
I love donuts.
Ryan Lemon
What are we talking about?
Shannon The Dude
Ryan tried to eat 10 big donuts in 15 minutes and he fell miserably.
F
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ryan Lemon
That's.
F
I don't think I could do that.
Ryan Lemon
I needed like another minute. Cleon. I would have got it. All right, we'll take our break. Come back more with Khalil Whitney. I guess Ansley Almanor is going to show up pretty soon. At least we'll have a couple guys to talk to. Appreciate you coming out, man, and being early. That's what it's all about. We'll take our break. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Podcast Summary: KSR - Hour 1 (July 16, 2025)
Published on July 16, 2025
Introduction
In this episode of KSR, hosted by Ryan Lemon and Shannon The Dude, the Kentucky Sports Radio team delves into a variety of topics ranging from local sports events to personal anecdotes, all while engaging with their dedicated audience. The show seamlessly blends sports analysis with community stories, providing listeners with both entertainment and information.
Upcoming Events and TBT Week
Ryan kicks off the show by welcoming listeners and highlighting the excitement surrounding the ongoing TBT (Tournament Bracket Tournament) Week. He mentions the participation of local rising stars, including Deandre Liggins and Daron Lamb for the first hour, followed by Ansley Amanor and Khalil Whitney in the second hour.
Ryan Lemon [02:00]: "We're gonna take some phone calls on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line... We've got four guys today, four guys tomorrow, and I think even two or three guys on Friday game day."
Shannon echoes Ryan's enthusiasm, reflecting on the success of last year's TBT Week and its timing coinciding with the current tournament.
Renovations at KS Bar & Grill
The hosts provide an update on the renovations at KS Bar & Grill, sharing insights into the extensive remodeling efforts.
Shannon The Dude [03:38]: "We're in the middle of that update for the bar. How's it looking?"
Ryan describes the updates, including the removal of the hostess stand and the overhaul of the patio area.
Ryan Lemon [03:46]: "They've taken out the hostess stand, all the tables, chairs, everything. Completely bare on the patio."
The discussion also touches on future plans, such as redoing the floors and introducing new menu items scheduled for the bar's reopening by August.
Major League Baseball All-Star Game Discussion
A significant portion of the conversation revolves around the recent changes to the Major League Baseball All-Star Game. Ryan praises the introduction of a Home Run Derby swing-off to resolve tied games, deeming it a refreshing change.
Ryan Lemon [06:02]: "They did something I didn't even know. They put in place where they have basically a Home Run Derby swing off to determine the winner of the All Star Game."
Shannon expresses her support for this modification, contrasting it with traditional extra innings and emphasizing its suitability for an exhibition game focused on entertainment.
Shannon The Dude [07:40]: "I'm fine with it being the All Star Game. It, it's all for entertainment anyway."
The hosts debate the merits of extending this format to regular-season games but ultimately agree it should remain exclusive to All-Star events.
Commendation to KSR Ladies for Support
Ryan takes a heartfelt moment to acknowledge and thank the Ladies of KSR for their unwavering support during challenging times, including personal hardships faced by members of the community.
Ryan Lemon [10:06]: "The ladies of KSR stepped up and just went way above and beyond taking care of some things for Josiah that he lost in the fire."
Shannon echoes his sentiments, highlighting the group's role as a strong support network.
