What does possibility mean to you?
Ryan Lemon
Um, that's a hard question.
Matt Jones
Something that you can strive for, that I'm able to do anything I set my mind to. You're confident in yourself and you believe in yourself. Stuff that you could achieve.

Comedy Off Broadway this is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. This is the Thursday edition July 17th. Ryan Lemon, Shannon the dude and joined by a very special guest. We'll get to here in just a second but as always the Kentucky sports radio is sponsored by the T.J. smith Law Office called T.J. what happened Shannon? He'll make them pay. He will make them pay. Well, our Clark's puppet shop phone number will be open. 859-280-2287. We'll have a couple segments. We'll try to take a few phone calls today because we have a lot of special guests lined up. The a vision glass text machine was rolling yesterday. Well, it's been all week. It's my cell phone this week. So if you know that number, you can send us a text out. We'll find try to get that on. And also have our whiskey thief call the day. So, Shannon, we got biffed yesterday by Duron Lamb and Deandre Ligon. I think they're still in bed. They may still be in bed. But we have a very special guest who's joining us today. Kind of unexpected. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the airways. Mr. Drew Franklin is back in the big chair. All right.
Shannon the Dude
I missed you guys. I had to take a couple days off. Franklin's had a lot going on here lately. My parents had back to back surgeries. One scheduled, one kind of just came up out of nowhere and happened to be at the same time. So I've been playing a little caretaker. Right before their surgeries, their dog died. So it's really been a pretty rough week around my parents house and I was there for them the last two days. But I'll be honest, I was sitting with my dad. Both surgeries went well, by the way. We're in recovery mode. But I was sitting with my dad yesterday and we're listening to the show and I told him because I'm his caretaker, my mom's in bowling green, my sister's with her. I was like, dad, are you alright? I might have to go drive over and save these guys when Duron knows showed you. Because I was in town and I thought about coming over here to join the conversation. It was kind of painful knowing that they left you hanging yesterday.
Ryan Lemon
It was painful sitting here knowing they left us hanging yesterday. But the big picture is both your parents went well.
Shannon the Dude
Yes.
Ryan Lemon
Both parents.
Shannon the Dude
Yes. One ankle, one heart. So far, so good. Still getting updates on my mom. But both surgeries went well. So thank you all for allowing me the time off. I heard you asked for some prayers. Got a few messages. Saw some people around town when I ran my. My cracker barrel run yesterday. So I appreciate people reaching out, but both went well.
Ryan Lemon
They almost fired you as your dad's caretaker though, on Tuesday.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah, well, it was a little weird when he was in surgery and the nurse came to the lobby to get me and I was at Wendy's, but I thought I could make a 10 minute run, but, you know, one strike against me. But otherwise it's gone as well as it can for a very rough situation here lately.
Ryan Lemon
And then when the surgery was over, you had an issue.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah, well, I was wearing noise canceling headphones in the lobby, looking out the window and they were yelling at me. But, you know, it's my first time in this role. I'm learning I didn't get a third strike. I've been very attentive. Got my dad Waffle House on night one to go Cracker Barrel on night two. We've mostly been watching summer league and waiting updates from my mom, but that's what it's been like around me. Been playing. Had to be a good son the last couple days.
Ryan Lemon
Well, glad both surgeries went well. Glad Mike and Nancy are both doing well.
Shannon the Dude
Yep.
Ryan Lemon
Kind of got a long recovery for your mom. Well, not long, but a tough one. So we're all. We're all still pulling for. She's a tough old gal. She'll be just fine.
Shannon the Dude
Yep. Hopefully. I don't know when she'll be home. I'm still getting updates this morning. She's on the other side of the state, but good news so far.
Ryan Lemon
We appreciate you joining us.
Shannon the Dude
Thank you. Thank you.
Ryan Lemon
Kind of another fun show. TP Week. At 10:15, we have. We're going to call Willie Collinstein. He can't come today because he's wink, wink, meeting with somebody. Wink, wink.
Shannon the Dude
Who's more important than ryan lemon?
Ryan Lemon
Maybe a 610 recruit.
Shannon the Dude
Oh, okay. Never mind. A lot more important than Ryan Lemon. Please. Will he do whatever you have to do over there?
Ryan Lemon
So. But he wants to be on the show. So I said, well, we can call him. So we'll call him at 10:30. At 10:15. 10:30, Archie Goodwin's gonna be here. I think it's the first time he's ever been on the show.
Shannon the Dude
I'm very excited about Archie. I mean, Willie. I love Willie. Fan favor. But we've been lucky enough to have Will a few times. Same with the Harrisons last year. I can't think of a time we've talked to Archie.
Ryan Lemon
I think so either.
Shannon the Dude
I don't even remember Archie doing it when he was on the team in one of the exit interviews. Maybe he did, but that's.
Ryan Lemon
I don't think so.
Shannon the Dude
It's been 12 years. So of all the people we'll have and you've already had so far, I think I'm most excited about him.
Ryan Lemon
11 o' clock will be the twins. And then at 11:30 will be Cantor Karam. Karam Kanter drew a blank on his first name. It's Karen, Karen Kanter and Marques Warwick, the dude from Henry Clay that's going to play on the team now, this.
Shannon the Dude
This year, this summer and what an addition that was. I haven't been on to talk about that. I mean that dude was just playing at Missouri. Yeah. And played really, really well. Northern before that. I think he has a couple like buzzer beater game winners.
Ryan Lemon
I think so.
Shannon the Dude
Very high scoring games with Ian Almanor. He gets some very fresh legs on that team. I'm looking forward to hearing from him today too.
Ryan Lemon
Now the team has been practicing this week and they may have wink, wink, played a scrimmage type of game. Maybe wink, wink against another team that we kind of know a little bit about. And I've got some intel about that. Okay, other team. The other team and some inside intel.
Shannon the Dude
Where is this other team based? Are they local or did they bring someone in la? Familiar. Bring someone in from out of town?
Ryan Lemon
Well, they're a local team.
Shannon the Dude
Okay.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, they're just right around the corner here from KS Bar and Grill. Actually, you would expect the two best players in the get together would be Ortega O Way and Jalen Lowe. They were good to hear because those two guys are probably gonna be the point guard. The two guard all year long. They both played really, really well. Really well. But it's the next three names I'm gonna say that played well. It might surprise you a little.
Shannon the Dude
Okay, let's hear it.
Ryan Lemon
The third player that was impressive yesterday was Cam Williams. Said he's not as good a shooter as Brea, but he's pretty close. He's a better athlete, a better defender than Braya.
Shannon the Dude
Close to Brea. That's a big comparison already.
Ryan Lemon
I'm just saying I trust my intel. Not as good a shooter as Brea, but pretty close. Better athlete, better defender than Brea. Cam Williams stood out yesterday.
Shannon the Dude
I love hearing that. Matt had a little scoop. Jack had some scoop. Pretty much anyone that heard something from practice. Away and low are a big takeaway as two standouts. But when you're throwing Cam Williams into that tier also, that's exciting. I saw and I hate putting this out there because this seems a little extreme to me, but There's a website, NBA Draft.net it's been around a long time. It's not the, you know, the top of the line place for your mock drafts, but it's, it's a place with mock drafts. Sure. Nothing wrong with it. They have Cam Williams at number six overall.
Ryan Lemon
What?
Shannon the Dude
Yeah. He's not even really in any of the other ones at all. Maybe a couple here and there, but none in the lottery. And they have him at sixth.
Ryan Lemon
I don't talk about as much.
Shannon the Dude
I'm not going to be calling him a projected 6 pick all year, anything, because I do think that's a. That's a little bit of a stretch. Might be taking a gamble there to try to get one right. But just the fact that someone out there believes that, that's exciting. And now you're telling me he stood out in the practice. So it's a name we haven't mentioned a ton of so far this summer, but that's big news.
Ryan Lemon
Now, the other two names that stood out in the practice. Trent Noah. Good to hear that. A guy we've kind of had in our mind maybe be 10th, 11th, 12th man on this talented roster. Played well yesterday. I loved hearing that.
Shannon the Dude
So the. The reports were Trent Noah started. Did you see this? Did you see the alleged starting five?
Ryan Lemon
I have not seen the alleged starting five.
Shannon the Dude
It's. It's exactly what most of us have been predicting. I don't know what your prediction was. It's what I thought it was. I think Matt was. Thinks it is, but it's. It was Jalen Lowe.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Shannon the Dude
Aberdeen. Oh, way. That's kind of what everybody. Those three. I'm gonna skip over Brandon Garrison.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. We kind of had him in the lottery lineup.
Shannon the Dude
Everybody's had Modi about that day right there at the four, and maybe it is him. But yesterday in the scrimmage, it was Trent Noah at the 4, and apparently.
Ryan Lemon
He played pretty well.
Shannon the Dude
And Mo played. It wasn't like he was, you know, sitting out in street clothes. So I don't know what that means for the season. Maybe Pope was just mixing things up. It's a meaningless scrimmage over there, but that was a surprise. And seeing the practice reports that people.
Ryan Lemon
Are putting out, maybe there'll be a more of a battle with the four spot than we kind of thought. It might be a three and the four both. He can play both of them.
Shannon the Dude
If Trent. Sophomore Trent Noah is pushing Diabatte, who was really good for Bama last year in his role. I mean, that is very exciting news.
Ryan Lemon
And the last guy. This kind of surprised me a little bit. Malachi Moreno, a guy I thought would really need a year or two to, you know, get stronger, learn the college game a little bit. Love. And, you know, Trent and Malachi both grew up watching Kentucky basketball. They grew up watching Willie, the twins, Archie Goodwin, they watched these guys. Yesterday we got to play against them and they both played well.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah, you had the same last year with Trent and Travis, these guys. And they even admitted being a little wide eyed. They had at that point already been used to wearing the jersey, at least in practice, being on campus. But then when you lined up with some people you'd like actually idolized in the Harrison twins and Willie collie style. And that's got to be bizarre. Especially Marino and Willie are probably banging down there in the paint in this scrimmage. That's got to be a what the heck's going on moment for him.
Ryan Lemon
Well, we have to talk about it now because we can't talk about it with the guests that are coming.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah, we're using the S word. Last year we weren't allowed to say scrimmage, but I, I feel like they're using scrimmage. So are we saying it? Are we gonna get a call?
Ryan Lemon
We'll probably get a call. Let's just call you and I'll just call it a get together.
Shannon the Dude
A gathering.
Ryan Lemon
A gathering.
Shannon the Dude
A function. Friendly. You learned what a friendly is this week.
Ryan Lemon
A friendly.
Shannon the Dude
In soccer, it was just a friendly.
Ryan Lemon
So if they use that S word, we'll let them. But you and I will probably save our own rear ends. Need to probably just call it a gathering or a get together. If it hap. If it happened, you know, you know.
Shannon the Dude
Allegedly drew and allegedly 61 to 55, the young cats won after falling down early. Allegedly, allegedly. At this friendly.
Ryan Lemon
If there was something that actually happened. Shannon, I don't know if we can really, you know, tiptoe around it with these guys, but we're not supposed to talk to these guys about it.
Shannon the Dude
So why is it so secret?
Ryan Lemon
Why can't you say the S word?
Shannon the Dude
Last year, last year, when we would talk about it, maybe allegedly like UK would say, don't call it a scrimmage. I guess because there's NCAA rules about scrimmaging alumni or something. I. I don't know that it's a gray area, but we were just extra cautious to not get anyone, anyone in trouble. But this year it seems they're just throwing S words around.
Ryan Lemon
And to be so top secret, a lot of people knew about it.
Shannon the Dude
Yesterday we got a score according to Jack Pilgrim, Aberdeen hit the Elam ending.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, I didn't know that.
Shannon the Dude
This friendly.
Ryan Lemon
Not at the friendly.
Shannon the Dude
At the friendly.
Ryan Lemon
Whoever they were playing, whoever had a.
Shannon the Dude
Uk we're sorry if we're using the wrong terminology, but it, it's pretty cool they got to do that yesterday. That was a big part of last summer. Some of the players from last year's La Familia team said they followed last season's Pope's first year closer because of the scrimmages they played against them when they first got on campus a year ago.
Ryan Lemon
And the UK team last year followed the TBT team throughout the tournament last year because they get to know these guys, when they get to have these gatherings with them.
Shannon the Dude
I don't know if they'll do it again this year. Remember last year they would sit down, the vet and the, the new guy and you know, they kind of have a conversation about what it was like. I think maybe Andrew Harrison and Lamont Butler did a little one on one face to face. If maybe Amari and Willie or Brandon Garrison, Willie. But they all the new players each sat down with the former player and did a little one on one talk. I hope they do that again.
Ryan Lemon
So we'll take a break. We come back. We're trying to get, get Willie Collinstein on the phone. Willie's been with us. He was with us last summer. He's been with us here on the show a couple times and he really wants to do it. So we're gonna try to work it out. Get with him on the phone. Ryan, Drew and Shannon, we'll be right back. All right, welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan, Drew and Shannon here TBT week in this city and on this show as the TBT guys play tomorrow night, 9 o' clock scheduled tip off probably close to 9:30 over at historic Memorial Coliseum. Still got tickets available, Drew, if you want to go out and get your tickets, there's still tickets available to load up. And now we've got one of the stars of the team, one of the stars of Kentucky Wildcats during the Cal era. Willie Collinstein joins us again on Kentucky Sports Radio. How are you Willie?
Drew Franklin
I'm good. How are y' all doing?
Ryan Lemon
We're doing well. You decided to run it back again with the TBT guys this summer?
Drew Franklin
Oh, I had to do it, man. Last year was too fun.
Shannon the Dude
Now that you've been through it, what's it like? What are the feelings like now? Is there more, is there more hunger, more excitement, more comfort? You got one under your belt. How you feeling going into your second one?
Drew Franklin
I think a little more comfort of knowing how the tournament works and the things that it takes to win. I think all the guys that are playing with us are played in this tournament before and kind of understand what it takes to win too. So excited to put it together and see how it works.
Ryan Lemon
One of the coolest things I thought about you guys that came in last summer to play on the TBT team is you guys all got to feel the love again. From Big Blue Nation. We heard you know Khalil Whitney And Ansley Almanor talk about it yesterday. That's one of the reasons they wanted to play in this, because they feel like don't want to miss out on feeling that love from the fans.
Drew Franklin
Oh, yeah, man. I mean, y' all know how it is. It's something that. So I'm glad that, you know, Khalil got to come back and gets to feel that love for him and know that the time that he did spend here, like these people, never forget it.
Shannon the Dude
This year's team, it has some guys back, some new faces. Did you play any role in any recruiting new people or any roster creation, or did you just say, give me my spot, I'm back next summer?
Drew Franklin
I mean, you guys know how I get down, man. I don't care who's going to play with this. I just like playing in front of these fans and being back out in Lexington. So when they told me the guys that we got, I was hyped because obviously I didn't get to play with D. Lamb. I got to play with Liggins at the Kings and just a chance to play with Archie again after damn near 12 years. I mean, maybe even longer. It's fun, man. And in the last days of practice and fun playing and seeing, you know, how everybody got better from. Even from last year, and, I don't know, it's been good vibes.
Ryan Lemon
I think we got cool last year, too. I think you specifically enjoyed it so much. You stuck around, played a lot of golf here, this in Lexington this summer. Like, you got to enjoy Lexington all over again.
Drew Franklin
Oh, yeah, man. You know, I finished a year at school, so I was back and forth going to school and getting to go to football games. Yeah, just being around, golfing, seeing some. Some old buddies from college that have stuck around and laid shop around here, too. So, I mean, it's been fun, man, just seeing everybody grow up, just go into a new thing. You can't. You can't beat it, man. You can't beat the touch.
Shannon the Dude
We're glad you're able to hang around and have fun, but we, you know, you do have a championship to win. So what were you doing to stay in game shape? You know, golf course. I saw you're out there, you're getting a cart, you're not carrying your own bag. What were you doing to be ready for this second LA familiar run?
Drew Franklin
Oh, man, you probably see my second round when I was on that cart. I walked six miles a day. I carried a bag. And that's all I do. I don't touch A ball. The first time I touched the ball was TBT first practice. So I won't even lie to y'.
Ryan Lemon
All.
Drew Franklin
It's like riding a bike, man.
Ryan Lemon
So you had the first time you touched a basketball a long time. Was the practice, first practice on Monday.
Drew Franklin
Oh, yeah. Last year was the same thing, bro. I don't even own a basketball. Like the first time I touched the ball last year was the first practice that we had. Matter of fact, it might have been the champions little weekend or you do the little charity game and I was first off of 18 hole, you know, a couple Millers and I was feeling good that day.
Ryan Lemon
Man, what a difference.
Shannon the Dude
Hopefully no Millers before the, the games coming up this weekend. But you mentioned playing with Archie. He's a new addition. Right before you came on, Ron and I were talking about how Kentucky fans are. We haven't seen Archie since he played here. You've been around. The Harrisons have been around, but we haven't seen Archie. Is he still. Still got game? I know he's a TBT veteran at another program. Can we expect big things out of him this weekend?
Drew Franklin
Man, you, you know, Archie's got one speed and one one mode and that's get it and it's. He still has it and it's just more refined now, now and it's more crafted. You know, I watched him this year in China because of last year. We really wanted to play on our team, but he had already, you know, went to that other team and did his thing when we seen him in the Final Four. So, you know, he's, he was itching to play with us too. I feel like by the end of last year he was like, yeah, I definitely want to run with you guys next year. So I was happy it worked out for us because no, he's a, he's. He's one of the guys on this edition that's going to get it for us.
Ryan Lemon
So I was going to ask you that last year with kind of Nate Sistina kind of ended up being the breakout star and the leading scorer. Is that the. You think Archie's that guy this year? Who do you think it's going to be this year?
Drew Franklin
Oh, man. I mean, it's not about the offense. I don't think this year is all about defense. Like if we, if we play good defense, that's why Archie Liggins, the twins, we got good like defensive guys this year that like really get after it. So that's what's really going to do this for us. I mean, we can score one through 10 if we really want to. If you just throw the ball to a guy, want to play that way. But, you know, Coach woods got us. Got us buying in and playing the old dribble drive, and, man, it's going to be fun. It's going to be high octane. There's going to be a lot of threes and be some. A lot of baskets at the. At the rim, and it should be. The pieces that we have are a more fulfilling team than I feel like we did last year.
Shannon the Dude
Today, the Internet is buzzing about one of your all's preseason games. There might have been a little scrimmage practice.
Ryan Lemon
Okay, say this.
Shannon the Dude
Get together with some players that might still be in college. Can you reveal anything about what you all did last night over at the Joe Kraft Center? And did you like what you saw out of your opponent?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, man, we just got after it. He was trying to tune us up a little bit before a game, and, you know, obviously, they want to see where they're at, so our whole main thing was just to be, you know, a little more aggressive and put some weight on them, put some, you know, push them around, just make them feel uncomfortable. But, you know, they did a good job. They. They. They. They answered back at halftime, and they got hot, man, and it was good. It ended up being a really good game.
Ryan Lemon
And we Drew and I talked about, you know, a guy like Malachi Moreno grew up watching a guy like Willie Collie Stein play, and then he's probably banging with you in the paint. You know, you're still the OG to him.
Drew Franklin
Oh, yeah, man. And it was love, man. He came up. He came up to me after one of our practices and told me that. And, you know, I love that, bro, because that was me one day. That was me coming to AD and seeing these guys and boogie cousins. When I finally got drafted to the Kings, I'm getting to spend time with him off the court, and I'm just like, bro, Y' all know, but y' all boys was the guys, like, the first time I met John. Well, bro, like, man, y'. All. But I got a lot of love for y' all boys, so it was the same, man. And it's respect, you know, he gives it back, and it's all love, good energy. And I think he's gonna have a good year for us.
Shannon the Dude
You got to do that last year, too. So you think we're in a pretty good place in Pope's second year?
Drew Franklin
I mean, yeah, he's gonna. He's gonna get Them in tune. He's gonna make sure that they're in the right spots and the best position for Cali Rental. So I think we've seen that last year when people kind of had their thoughts on how that team was. I think it's just trust, man. Trust what post doing and let the chips fall where they go.
Ryan Lemon
Well, Willie, we appreciate you joining us, man. I know you wanted to do this even though you had some other obligations this morning, but you wanted to get on board, talk to us, talk to Big Blue Nation. Tickets still available for the game tomorrow night at Memorial Coliseum. So, man, best of luck to you and welcome back to Lexington.
Drew Franklin
I appreciate you guys, and I always love coming home.
Ryan Lemon
All right, Willie Collinstein, kind of one of the OGs, are back running, running back again with the TBT team again this summer.
Shannon the Dude
He's kind of become. I don't know if he's the official of captain of tbt, but he's a good spokesman. You tell how much he cares and how excited he is to run it back here tomorrow, this weekend.
Ryan Lemon
Now, Shannon, what was he doing, though?
Shannon the Dude
Was he mowing?
Ryan Lemon
I'm not sure he did. Working on a weed eater.
Shannon the Dude
He did let us, you know, test the dump button.
Ryan Lemon
Now, I don't know if you even heard what he said there. So you did catch it. Well, yeah, I'm glad. Yeah. Glad I wasn't answering a call or something. Nobody gave me a heads up, but, yeah, I did hit it.
Shannon the Dude
So we'll see if it works or not. But, yeah, Ryan said he was going to cover the fine if we got fine, so it's all right.
Ryan Lemon
Ryan did not say that. Yeah, but, yeah, I heard it and didn't know if it got dumped or not, but I'm not for sure what he was doing. Feel free to jump in anytime that.
Shannon the Dude
Happens and say, hey, did you get that?
Ryan Lemon
Did you hear that, Shannon?
Shannon the Dude
Yeah, yeah, feel free to do that.
Ryan Lemon
But, yeah, it's good to hear from Willie, you know, always good to have these guys come back. A lot of these guys, really, we don't have an opportunity to talk to them and catch up with them, and this gives us a chance to do that. Well, he, like I said, he's been on with us before, and I think he really loves coming back, being a part of feeling the love of Big Blue Nation again and loves Lexington.
Shannon the Dude
He really does. I know he's been back and forth, but I've heard stories of people just running into Willie on the golf course, and it's just run like running into a Buddy, even though they don't know him, he's just out. He's one of the guys. He's been quite all over town since coming back to TBT at one point. I know he's considering actually living here. I don't know if that's still in his plans, but of all people to see. Heck, I was at the mall in Cincinnati one time and my wife was like, is that really way down there? And ran up talk to him. It's I think there's multiple Willys Collie Steins running around having a good time.
Ryan Lemon
Now tonight at 6:00 clock at Bespoken Spirits in the Grey Line station, Commonwealth causes a new bourbon bottle for La Familia and the guys will be there to sign it. They're only going to be signing the bourbon bottle. The La Familia bourbon bottle, right? Yeah, they're just going to sign that one. Six o' clock tonight. You can get the guys, meet the guys, talk to the guys and get this bourbon bottle from Commonwealth College.
Shannon the Dude
This should wrap up all the preview events because it gets real tomorrow. So one of the last chances to see the guys, unless you run into them. One of the last big events in the week leading up to the actual action.
Ryan Lemon
So we're going to take our break, come back. Archie Goodwin is going to sit in with us. I don't think he's ever been on the show before. I think this is his first time on the show with us.
Shannon the Dude
I've waited 13 years to ask Archie a question. Okay, 13 years.
Ryan Lemon
That's the pressure right there. He's standing right here. We'll get him on. We back. 859-280-2287. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call TJ. He'll make them pay. Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan, Drew and Shannon here we are live on the patio at KS Bar and Grill. Matt got the week off getting ready for football season coming up. So works out well with us with Matt being here. We've got TBT week, got the guys coming and kind of sitting down with us a little bit. It's so cool to kind of catch up with everybody. And we're going to have a guy on now, we believe the first time he's ever been on ksr. Archie Goodwin joins us. Archie, man, like I said, I think it's your first time here. Welcome to ksr.
Willie Collie-Stein
Thank you guys for having me.
Ryan Lemon
I'm happy to Be here, you know, you, you. They tried to get you to play last year. I guess you'd already committed to somebody else. Went out and got made you a commitment to get you early this year. Did you want to play with this group of guys?
Willie Collie-Stein
Oh, yeah, for sure. Last year it was really just to miscommunication between me and 20. I think that because I think he tried to reach out to me but I didn't see the message because of the platform he used. I didn't. The message disappeared. So I didn't see it. But if that wouldn't happen, I would have played last year. Especially with one of my guys bled. Me and him are really close. So because you know, we played with the Suns together. So it would have been a no brainer for me last year had that communication not failed through. But I knew going after this, after last year playing, I knew. I told 20, like, man, if I, if I do play in it this year, it'll be with you guys. So you don't have to worry about it.
Ryan Lemon
Awesome.
Shannon the Dude
Yeah. Last year not just played one of the stars of the whole tournament. He was getting buckets and Kentucky fans were saying, what is Archie doing on that other team over there? So we're glad to have you though. But you are experienced in this tournament, just not with la familia. Do you feel like how many been a couple of years, right? Two or three.
Willie Collie-Stein
I played in it. I played in it maybe four times.
Shannon the Dude
Okay, well, regardless the experience you have in it, are you able to pass that along to some of the new guys? Do you feel like that really helps you in knowing what to expect going into it this year with a new team?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Willie Collie-Stein
At the end of the day, we're dealing with a lot of pros, so, you know, basketball is basketball. At the end of the day we have a good group of guys who know how to play the game. And you know, in practices we look really well with sharing the ball with each other and being really selfless. So I think that as long as we keep that mindset and the defensive mindset going into it, we can beat anybody because we have the talent.
Ryan Lemon
Now you said you play with Eric Bledsoe with the Suns. We just had Willie Collinstein on. He said he was your teammate for a year. Where were that? With the Kings?
Willie Collie-Stein
No, he was with here. He was my team.
Shannon the Dude
The Nerlands team. The Young Willie.
Willie Collie-Stein
Young. Young, Quiet Willie. That was, that was, that was Willie before the tattoos. That was the Young.
Shannon the Dude
Was that blonde hair Willie? Was that that too?
Willie Collie-Stein
That was Baby, little Afro Willie, he was. It wasn't until I think his sophomore and junior year where he started getting more comfortable and really being able to find who he is as a person and being able to express it at the level he wanted to. I think that first year he was kind of conservative, but, you know, as he got more comfortable, he became, you know, the great Willie that we know now.
Shannon the Dude
I wasn't going to go this route, but we've mentioned the Suns twice. I have a quick story and a thank you. I was going to see demarcus Cousins in the Kings by myself. Flew out alone. Demarcus got me tickets behind the bench. On my layover in Denver, I think open my phone. Cousins suspended, will not play. I almost went home. I went anyway. Cousins wasn't even allowed in the arena and I still got my one ticket behind the bench. Thank you. Archie Goodwin had 30 points on the other team that night. I'm sure you remember that game with the Suns. I think Bledsoe, that was the team. But I gotta thank you. I flew across the country to see one former cat. He wasn't even allowed in the building. And then you end up. That had to have been one of your career games in the league.
Willie Collie-Stein
That was. So that was the last game of the season for us. And coach told me before the game I was going to play just to be ready because that year, rookie year, you know how I go for rookies up and down. And so I knew I was going to play coming in. So I just came in with an aggressive mindset and you know, we won the game and everything. Yeah, I remember that.
Shannon the Dude
Well. There's a guy in a King's shirt behind the King's bench going crazy with each shot. So thank you for saving my, my trip.
Willie Collie-Stein
That's dope, man. That's really dope right there.
Ryan Lemon
Most of Big Blue Nation, if they had to give a do over for one team, it would have been your team. You know, when Nerlens went down, I think you guys all deserved a do over. I think you guys kind of got cheated a little bit.
Willie Collie-Stein
Well, there's a couple of things about that year. First, when Nerlens got hurt, I think that definitely hurt us. We were top 25 before he got hurt. Yeah, I remember like it was yesterday. We was on the road playing against Florida and before the injury, we were right there in the game with those guys. And then he gets, you know, the devastating ACL tear and then from there because he was our anchor defensively and you know, like I say With. With Willie and Alex, they became great players, but at that time, they just were still new and they were not who they became to be as those years went on.
Ryan Lemon
Right.
Willie Collie-Stein
So we needed Nerlands to be able to help those guys and like, because it was a comfort knowing that we had him back there to a throw lives to, but also the defensive presence, the tunnel guys to him, you know, and be the defensive guy he was. And when you lose that, that's hard for anybody. I think another thing that kind of hurt us that year was realistically the championship that the team won before us because, you know, for us to be a 20 plus win team and still be number two in the SEC and not make the tournament, I do feel like we got jacked a little bit because of that. We did lose some games, but we. But I've seen plenty of Kentucky teams that lost games and still made the tournament.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Willie Collie-Stein
You know, and for us to finish, like I said, number two in SEC at the end and we still didn't get the bid was kind of crazy to me. It didn't seem right for there to be a power conference unless it finished number two and I get the bid. Still didn't make sense to me. And then we just. We just went into that nit. Not really. We were kind of down as a young group. We were kind of down because we didn't. We felt we didn't get a fair hand. And on top of that, us being the number one overall seed and having to play at the team.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, that's right.
Shannon the Dude
That Memorial was being used.
Willie Collie-Stein
Yeah. So we can't even play at our home thing. And we had a number one over our seat. So we were on the road the whole time. Didn't make sense. And guys just weren't mentally there as a young group. It was just kind of hard for us. But also the last thing I'm gonna say that I felt like could have helped us was me being. Me being at the point guard at the beginning. I think that that helped us a lot as a group.
Drew Franklin
If.
Willie Collie-Stein
I don't know if you guys remember, but Ryan was the point guard at first. Then he had his stuff going on.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Willie Collie-Stein
Then I went into the point guard role and I went into that point guard role. We were top 10 in the country. Like, we were top 10 team. We were right there with Duke. We lost one to Notre Dame on the road, and then I think that's when Ryan came back and then coach inserted him back as the point guard for us, and we just kind of had up and downs. Because for me, in my game, if you remember Coach Kyle's offense, his two guards, Daron Lamb, Darris Miller, Liggins was a 2 3. But his two guards are predominantly guys who catch and shoot. I play off a floppy action. He did a lot of that with the run, which was where he thrived at. But for me, that wasn't my game. My game was more downhill transition, more like a John Wall type player. John Wall is a better pass than me, but as far as being able to get into the rim and get downhill and put pressure on the defense, on the fast break standpoint, that was my game. And that was more predicated for a point guard and Coach Kyle's system. And so I thrived a lot during that time as the point guard, where I was getting a lot of my praise. And then when I moved to the two where I was in more of a catch and shoot role, it kind of went down. And so to the outside guys or to the public who don't really. Who don't really understand what's going on, it's like, oh, he's getting worse. So, like, that was the theme of the year. Like, oh, Archie's getting worse. Not necessarily that I'm getting worse. I'm just in a different place position, and I'm not being used how I was being used at the beginning, which was to my strengths. Because at that time, shooting wasn't a strength of mine. Like, you know, I was more of a downhill player.
Ryan Lemon
Right.
Willie Collie-Stein
And even still to this day, like, I'm a way better shooter now, but I'm still a downhill player. And so, like, it works when you give me the ball and let me play downhill, then I can get and create and I can get into the rhythm of shooting.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Willie Collie-Stein
So I think that, you know, me being used the way I got used at that second half of the season, it hurt us as well because I wasn't able to really put pressure on the defense like I wanted to. And then what if that result in. There was a lot of times where I would kind of get antsy and try to force things and, you know, trying to force. And trying to integrate myself into the game because I wasn't being able to really get used that way. Because, like I say, if you look at his. At Coach Kyle's teams, I would say pre. Pre. What year was that? It was one year where he had. I'm not even gonna say the year d booking. And was here maybe a year or so after that, maybe after Shay's year Because you got to think every year since he's gotten here, it was point guard university. That's what he's called.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, yeah, Right.
Willie Collie-Stein
So, like, the point guards, they run a show and all of them are downhill guys, you know what I mean? Like, the only guy maybe that wasn't downhill would be like a Tyler Ulis. But even Tyler Ulis, he's so crafty and quick to get in the lane.
Ryan Lemon
Right.
Willie Collie-Stein
He could still get there whenever he wanted and make plays. He was probably one of the better shooting point guards that Coach Cal had. But like, from John Wall, you can go back to Derrick Rose, Tyreek Evans, John Wall, Brandon Knight, Shay Dear Fox, Jamal Murray. Like, Jamal Murray is more of a shooter too, but he was athletic and get downhill. But a lot of the point guards were downhill players. And for me, and the discussions that we had when I. Prior to me coming was he was going to allow me to play that point guard some, which I thrived in when I was there. And I'm sorry to be a little long winded, but I just. I just never have gotten this opportunity to explain this to people because a lot of. I got a lot of slack that year and people wondering what was the problem? You know what I'm saying?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Willie Collie-Stein
And I've never gotten a chance to really express how I felt about that year and what I think could have helped us. I don't think that it was necessarily that. I'm not going to put it like, oh, Coach Cal is the problem. He wasn't. I just. I believe that if he would have allowed me to stay at that point guard position, it would have helped us way more. Especially when Nerling is getting hurt. Like, I would have been able to take on a.
Ryan Lemon
Just hearing you talk, Drew, it's like he's therapy. It's like, you know, we got therapy, talking it through, getting through it, talking about, you know, what was going on because, you know, about, say, don't apologize.
Shannon the Dude
For being long winded. That was the best answer I think we've ever had. For any question for a player about.
Ryan Lemon
Anything, it's coming from his heart. You can tell, man, I'm very detailed. I want to let the people know, man, this is what I was feeling, what was going on at that time.
Willie Collie-Stein
And it was. It was tough, man, because being a young kid and getting so much like, you guys know, I. I caught a lot of slack that year for a lot of the problems that was going on with our team, and rightfully so, me being one of the better players, I take that on the chest. But when you can't do anything about it because of, you know, like, because I've had conversations with coach and I remember going to him and asking like, coach, you know, I would love to play the point. And he just basically told me, like, I want you to play the point, but we got to let Ryan play it. And I need you on the court, you know, so we got to put you at the 2. And I'm like, okay, cool. Whatever you want me to do, I'll do it. I'll try to do it the best I can. I just knew that at that time. And his offense at that time, the two was made for, you know, peer shooters.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, right.
Willie Collie-Stein
And so if you can remember, that's when Julius May started playing a lot for us because he was our best shooter. So, you know, you put him at the 2, now I'm at the 3 and I can. It got him a little better because now I'm more of a slide in a slashing cutting role, which is cool. But like I said, once again, I was brought here as a top 10 player in the country off of me playing with the ball in my hands, putting pressure.
Ryan Lemon
Well, if you sit tight, can you sit tight one more segment because Drew's got a question he's been waiting to ask you for 13 years.
Shannon the Dude
It's a question and a compliment.
Ryan Lemon
So we'll take our break. We'll come back out a lot more with Archie Goodwin, Kentucky Sports Radio. We'll be right back after this.

Welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan, Drew and Shannon. We're live on the patio at KS Bar and Grill. They're redoing the floors today inside Drew, so there's a lot of noise inside KS Bar and Grill.
Shannon the Dude
Looking good in there.
Ryan Lemon
Looks real good. We gonna open sometime in mid to late August so keep an eye out.
Shannon the Dude
For all that whenever me and you get our our tasks done in there. Gotta get some photos going.
Ryan Lemon
We got it started. We got a little start going on. So. Joined here by Archie Goodwin from the TBT team, former Kentucky Wildcat and Archie, I don't know if you heard, but Drew said he's got a question he's been waiting to ask you for 13 years. I don't even know what it is. So Drew, the floor is yours.
Shannon the Dude
Part question, part statement, part correcting the Big Blue nation. Okay, John Wall does not have the best Big Blue Madness dance. Someone has to say it and I'm the one that's gonna say it. It was this man sitting right next to him.
Ryan Lemon
That is very true.
Shannon the Dude
I remember Archie Goodwin has the best Big Blue Madness dance. In fact, one of my best friends in the whole world. I will not say his name, but he is currently listening. He would sit at home and watch it on YouTube and practice it to where he's perfected it and we will be out in public and tell him to Hit his. Archie Goodwin, walk me through that madness. Well, I know we don't have video for the fans to see, but you were like cranking something over here. I don't know, you had some kind of lever with your right hand. Also you're coming off. Excitement's all time high. They just won the championship. Just walk me through that whole moment of perfection.
Willie Collie-Stein
Well, so where I'm from, we. We dance like at that time, you know, we would dance. It was called jigging. Like that's like the slang for it is jigging and dugging and, and stuff like that. So that was something big for us. Like, it's even videos when I was in like high school of like, we used to make videos of like all my classmates us just dancing. Like, like I was doing. All of us just doing it. Like, it'd just be a montage of like different us with over different songs and just dancing throughout our school in different places. Like, so that was something that we always did. So when I got here, the day, the day that we of. Of the Big Blue Madness, my teammates, we, you know, we all practiced before we came out. Like that day, like, everybody picked they song they coming out to and everything. And so I saw kind of what everybody was going to do and I'm just like, man, that's not gonna. We don't have much. Like, I had a lot of shy guys on my team. Like, as, you know, like, you know, Alex is super shy. I think he's still kind of shy, to be honest. Like, he, he's just to himself. We know Willie was shy at the time. Nerlands wasn't necessarily shy, but Nerlands is from the East Coast. They don't know how to dance. And then, you know, like John Hood, Kyle, them guys not gonna do much.
Shannon the Dude
John Hood's from Madisonville. We don't dance there either.
Willie Collie-Stein
Right. So, you know, so I knew I was one of the guys who really had rhythm and so. And obviously Julius Mays, that's one of my best friends too. He doesn't dance. You know, he's. He's not a dance.
Ryan Lemon
He was grandpa on that.
Willie Collie-Stein
Yeah, I used to call him Uncle Jure. So he don't. He don't dance, but so I knew, you know, I had to bring something to it. And so I knew it was gonna. It was gonna stand out because I was one of the guys who had, who had rhythm, you know. So once I got the chance to do it, I told him I was gonna do it. Like, everybody was like behind, like that Was kind of geek behind me, you know, until I went out there and then I told him, like, bro, it's nothing for me to dance. Like, you know, I'm not a shy person. And that's right up my alley, especially at that time. So it was fun. That was a dope experience for me.
Shannon the Dude
Now I don't want history to forget it. That's why I asked you about it. We got people need to know that you were one wall too.
Willie Collie-Stein
Now Wall is probably more popular because of who he is and what he became. But yeah, I agree with you. I think my dance was better. All he did was this. He just did a little flex thing. Look, you know, you actually dance, just.
Shannon the Dude
Know that there's a group of 40 year old white guys that'll go to Nashville and hit their.
Willie Collie-Stein
Archie Goodwin's 13 there with them and they hit it. We gonna hit it together.
Ryan Lemon
Our aviation glass tech machine is blowing up and this guy says absolutely mean this. That was one of the best KSR segments ever. Archie is killing it. I think people feel your pain. I mean, we were all around that season. We know the struggles you guys had that year. And to hear you in your voice, you can still kind of feel your pain a little bit when you talk about it.
Willie Collie-Stein
Man, I'm 30 years old now. That happened 12 years ago and well, I turned 31 this year, so 13 years ago. And man, it's, it's still, I still think about it not in a haunting way, but in a way of like, man, I wish that I could redo that season. Yeah, I wish I could redo it. It would be so much that I would do different just looking back.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, you guys need to do over, man.
Willie Collie-Stein
Yeah, like, but you know, as we talked about, you know, with coach Kyle, you know, he, he brings in so many great guys every year. It's really like, you have your decision. This is your chance, you know. And so with the team he brought in that next year and where I was mentally at the time, it would have just. I just didn't feel like it would work, you know what I mean? For me And I know how the NBA works as well. It's like the more you, the longer you wait, the lower your chances go. As far as being drafted, especially as a guard, it worked for Willie. Cause you know, Willie's a seven foot freak of nature. You know, he can stay in college and get, get drafted top 10, but when you six five, good athlete, but you know, there's plenty of six, five guards and you got to take your Chance when you get it, you know what I'm saying? It's not the same. So I knew that going in and. And then you can even look at guys like Alex. I think Alex was projected to be first round.
Ryan Lemon
He was at one time. Yeah.
Willie Collie-Stein
And then, and then he didn't even. I think he might. If. Did he get second round or did he go undrafted?
Ryan Lemon
I think he went undrafted.
Shannon the Dude
He was top five after that Duke game on some of the mock drafts.
Willie Collie-Stein
You know, and then so, you know, it's just one of those things where sometimes you just, you just have to take your shot and go now. But if I could do that year over, man, I would do it 10 times over because we had potential. You know, I think that I could have took more responsibility in certain areas like we talked about. And then if I really, I think if I really would have tried to be assertive and being on crowd persistent on Kyle about trying to play that point guard role to help me to my strengths. I think that helps us, man. We won so many games like that and it helped so many of our guys and, and it helped me get Julius open shots to help me get Nerlands and Willie involved. It helps so much because I put so much pressure on the rim. So I just.
Ryan Lemon
Listen, we're about out of time. I can't thank you enough. This was really good, man. It's great to hear you. And you're going to feel that love this weekend of the tbt. I guarantee that Memorial Coliseum, you guys get to feel that love again and you deserve it, man. But what your team went through and what you kind of went through on the personal level during that year, you deserve it. So enjoy every second of it, man.
Willie Collie-Stein
Thank you guys.
Ryan Lemon
Appreciate it.
Willie Collie-Stein
