Welcome to hour two of Kentucky sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Unknown Speaker D
All right, welcome back. It is hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan, Drew and Shannon, we're live on the patio at KS Bar and Grill. Just had a great interview with Archie Goodwin because it's TBT week where the guys on the TBT team kind of come individually get to talk to them. But for the second time, Drew in their UK basketball career, the twins are back. They came back for their sophomore season.
Unknown Speaker C
At Kentucky, third time, came back last year.
Unknown Speaker D
That's true. It came back now for the tbt. Second time with the TBT guys. So Andrew and Aaron Harrison join us now. So welcome back, guys. I guess you enjoyed it. We'll start with you, Andrew, since you enjoyed it so much last year, you wanted to be a part of it again this year. What was your thought process in coming back?
Unknown Speaker E
I just enjoy being around the guys, being in the facilities, being in Lexington, being able to play in front of the Kentucky fans. That was the best part, being able to play with my brother again on the same team. So, so all that went into one to be able to come back and try to try to win the championship this year.
Unknown Speaker C
Aaron, after you all did one, did you have kind of commit right away? Did you have the whole year to look forward to it? What's the excitement like now that you've figured out what it is and you know what you're getting into?
Unknown Speaker E
Oh, yeah. I mean, we super excited just to get back out there and now we know what it takes a little more. So we're going to go out there and I think we have a big advantage just being mature and, and having that one year under our belt. And this year we're going to have the same, going to have a full group the whole time. So I think we're just going to, you know, take it game by game.
Unknown Speaker D
When you were here last year, Andrew, were you guys, were you. I don't think surprise is the right word, but little stunned to see the support and the love that you guys got and did that play a factor and you guys wanted to come back and run it back again.
Unknown Speaker E
Honestly, I wasn't even that surprised. I just, you know, you forget because I didn't come back at all since I left school. So you forget how, how much, you know, how much they, they love basketball, Kentucky basketball here. So when you get here, you like, remember like, okay, yeah, this is this is crazy. This is serious. But no, at the games, I kind of got a feeling once we had like a autograph signing and stuff that all the fans are going to come and show and support us a lot. So it was, it was, it was a no brainer really.
Unknown Speaker C
Last year, you all the. The highlight was in Louisville and forgive me, I was looking cussed if my details are off here. I. I got assaulted there. But I remember saying this is the part where always hits it. And I was talking about Aaron hitting the game winner and then Andrew hits the Elam ending. Was there any like, what the hell, man, that's my shot. Any brother jealousy There was. Was it his turn? How did that work out? Where Andrew finally got his chance to. To call game?
Unknown Speaker E
Nah, I mean, there's definitely no jealousy. Of course he had it going. It was a great shot, great play. So, you know, this type of stuff, you just, you know, you just want to win. There's nothing. Definitely no jealousy.
Unknown Speaker C
How did it feel to do that in Louisville? That atmosphere was insane there in Freedom hall.
Unknown Speaker E
You being the road team, definitely, that was fun. Man. You can't even imagine playing a game like that with Aventurine in the summertime. It was just crazy. There's a lot of red in there. A little bit of blue, but there's a lot of red in there. So they were. They booed us and stuff, which made me smile. That made me smile, them booing us when we ran on the court and everything. I mean, shot was. Was good. Bled made a play, got it to me and I was able to make it. So it was pretty cool. I got. He just saved us so many times, so at least I could do it one time.
Unknown Speaker H
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker C
You owed him one.
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker C
Do you like the Elam ending? Had you ever done that before or was that the first time playing that way?
Unknown Speaker E
It's okay. You know, it's okay when you win, you lose. Like, I wish I had the rest of the game, but I mean, it's okay. It's definitely a way for our teams not to just hold the ball or keep it exciting, you know, so it's cool.
Unknown Speaker D
Aaron, I got to ask you, when you're back in Lexington or back in Kentucky, how many times a day do people ask you about the shot against Wisconsin or Louisville or Michigan? It's got to come up every single day you're here.
Unknown Speaker E
Oh, yeah, of course. All the time. Like, that's probably the first thing that people ask.
Unknown Speaker D
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker E
Like, oh, how was it shot? Like, how did it feel after? Like or they say what they were doing when I, when it happened. So that's something that's like, you know, priceless. So it's pretty cool.
Unknown Speaker D
And we. I even asked you here during the break, which one of the shots was one that kind of curved in? The Michigan shot that kind of somehow magically curved in and went in.
Unknown Speaker E
I mean, I think it was the Michigan. I think I got a. I got a little. I got a little touch on the hand, I think, too. Foul.
Unknown Speaker C
Okay.
Unknown Speaker D
You get a four point play there.
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah. But, yeah, it dropped. So. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker C
Thank God you get asked about that so much, including us right now. Even asked you when you first walked up, share with us a fun Kentucky memory that wasn't one of your 10 buzzer beaters you hit. Surely there was a game or another moment that other people. We can remember you for something else too, because right now, I said during the break, the four of us will be long gone and generations down the road, we'll still be talking about their. And Harrison shots.
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah. So probably a memory besides that. Probably. Like, I mean, my first Big Blue madness was kind of crazy. Like, I think that that had a big impact on me, like just experiencing that. And then I feel. I think I went to someone else's like whatever they call it, similar, and it wasn't even. It wasn't close. So just going to that, that was just pretty cool. And that's something I'll always remember just being in high school and that having a big impact on me.
Unknown Speaker C
And you carried the team several teams, several times yourself, just not the buzzer beaters that he had. Did you have a favorite moment or a game that you really think fondly of?
Unknown Speaker E
Looking back, I know the Wichita State game my freshman year was fun. That was probably like the best game that I played in while I was here in terms of going back and forth and just competition. So that was like a very memorable game, even though it was kind of early in the tournament. But we were actually the underdogs in that game and I don't know, we figured out a way to win. So that was a pretty cool moment. Louisville, my freshman year, was a good game. We were underdogs in that game as well. Well, we end up winning so many. Any game that you win. I mean, but you remember the losses too. You remember the, the criticism, all the scrutiny that me and him took. So, I mean, you, you, you become men. Like at, at the end of the day, we became men here. You able to take the good and the bad. Got to be able to have tough skin and not really care what other people say. So. Yeah, yeah. I mean, you become a man whether you want to or not. So it's, it was fun, man. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Unknown Speaker D
We, you guys talked about that last year when you were here. Archie Goodwin just got up. He kind of went through some things when he was here. Yesterday we had Khalil Whitney, he had some things when he was here. And all three of you kind of just said the same thing. Kind of helps you grow up as a man, not necessarily as a basketball player, but helps you grow up as a person.
Unknown Speaker E
I mean, yeah, because everybody's not going to go on and make $500 million and play in the NBA for 20 years. It just don't happen like that. So you gotta. What kind of man are you gonna be? And you gonna figure it out. Are you gonna complain and worry about what else. What somebody else got or what somebody else doing? So we, we always been like that. We never worry about what, what anybody else got going on. We're just trying to be the best us. So.
Unknown Speaker D
Got anything back to that, Aaron?
Unknown Speaker E
No, of course. I mean, that's just a part of a. Part of coming here, part of our, our college careers. It was just, you know, ups and downs and you just become, you become tough. You, like you say, you have tough skin and you learn not to let what other people say or do bother you really, because you're gonna do it anyway. It is what it is.
Unknown Speaker C
So let's get back to the present day with la familia. You, you're the point guard. What's our team looking like this year? Look, some back, some new changes. Did you have any say in the roster and you liking what they have there?
Unknown Speaker E
No, I never have any say in the roster. It's not, that's not my job. But now we look great, man. We look great on defense, especially on defensive end. We got a lot of switchable parts. We can go 1 through 1 through 12 or 11. I think that we have everybody on the team can play. Everyone's gonna stay committed and play the whole time. So I think we'll be fine. It's a tough field that we, that is, that we have. It's like a. You're a pretty good bracket and stuff like that, but if we play together, play defense, I think we'll be fine. And we gonna, we gonna finish it off this year. Hopefully.
Unknown Speaker C
Everyone we've talked to has said defense. This sounds like we're gonna have some unders. Ryan, I think is this. Is this the message behind the scene with the coaches, just defense, defense, defense.
Unknown Speaker E
I mean, you know, in a tournament like this, it's all about. It's about defense. No one's going to come in there and play. Like, no one is going to be such an offensive fluid team in a week or so, but there will be talented players on every team. But you just can't let one player beat you. And I think that we have. I think we have a team that it will be pretty tough for a player in this tournament to beat us by itself.
Unknown Speaker C
So last season, when you got to it was the expectation kind of what you thought of, just the competition and the level of play would be. We kind of coming in not knowing what you were expecting. Do you. Did you feel like it met your expectations? Were people better than what you thought?
Unknown Speaker E
I mean, no. I mean, if I'm being honest, it's not. I still don't feel like too many people are, like, better than me individually. So, like, in this tournament, we all look at. We can look at it like that, like, oh, now none of these guys are individually better than us, but if we put it together, it's like. It's like, amazing. It's like something that. That we don't have to do, but we're doing it just because we want to sacrifice for each other. So, you know, no one is going to get a contract out of scoring 30 or especially not on our team. No one's going to really gain anything individually by going off in the. In the tbt. So we all know that. We know that the goal is to win. So that's the. That's the. That's the best part. And what makes it fun, we've had.
Unknown Speaker D
Some of the guys say that the, the relationships they built with last year's Team UK team kind of led them to follow the team more last year. Did either one of you guys, like, follow the team a little more last year because you kind of knew these guys and you'd worked out against these guys and maybe develop a relationship with any of the guys?
Unknown Speaker E
I think I. I mean, I feel like I did have a little bit more of a relationship. I did kind of, like, check them out, check on it a little more than I. Yeah. Just because I did get to see him up close. I saw him in the summer, so it was just different, you know, it was. It was kind of different. So it's pretty cool to come back and see, See the team, and it has a different. It has a different, different feel.
Unknown Speaker D
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker D
You Agree, Andrew?
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah, absolutely. Just being around the guys, even Coach Pope being new, wanting to check it out, seeing how they look. But even this year, I'll probably check them out even more and more just because I know a couple. Know a couple kids on the team just from Houston, and they just seem like. It's intriguing. It's like, you. You don't really know if they're going to be who they're going to be. No, I'm not saying. I mean, they look good yesterday, but, you know, you never know who. It's summertime, so it's interesting to see how good they can get.
Unknown Speaker C
You mentioned the connection. You all know Jalen Lowe. He's new to Kentucky fans. What do you think everybody's getting out of the new point guard that came in from Pitt?
Unknown Speaker E
Man, first, he's a great kid. Come from good parents and everything like that. Man, he was a little kid. Like, he was a little kid. He showed me a picture yesterday. We was at Dave and Busch. He's like a little kid. And I was like, oh, man, I feel real old. But no, I mean, he's a hard worker. I mean, his dad had him in basketball all his life, around basketball all his life. So, I mean, I think he'll do well here. He works hard. He's a leader, has some toughness, so you just got to keep working. I talked to him yesterday, gave him a few pointers, and he'll be just fine.
Unknown Speaker C
Did he reach out when he was considering Kentucky in the portal? Did y' all have any conversations before he got to Lexington or is just now you're walking him through it, that he's here?
Unknown Speaker E
No, no, no. I feel like, you know, everybody got to make that decision on their own. Like, everyone's different. Different situation. College basketball is way different now than when I was picking, so it's a different mindset. So, no, I didn't. I didn't. I didn't get to talk to him about that, but I got to talk to him yesterday, and we did an interview earlier this week together, so I was able to talk to him. He was able to ask me some questions. Questions and stuff, too.
Unknown Speaker D
So you mentioned yesterday we're not really allowed to talk much about it, but there seemed to have been a gathering yesterday with you guys and the other guys. What's your takeaway from that, Aaron?
Unknown Speaker E
It was. It was fun. I mean, I think that they. They're. They're good. It's a good group. It's an athletic group. I think that the SEC will be fun. To watch this year. They. I mean, they obviously have, like, a leader, and they have. I mean, they have a leader in Coach Pope. So I think. I think they'll be fine in the sec. I think they need to make sure they're physical enough. We were a little physical with them yesterday, and they definitely fought back with that, so that was a good sign. So I think that's the main thing. Like, SEC basketball is pretty physical. So that's probably what people are wondering when a bunch of new guys coming in, can they handle the sec? Can they do that every week? But I think that they responded to us pretty well. So this week makes it easy for.
Unknown Speaker C
You all to interact with Pope and the team. I mean, you're in the same building over there, but beyond tbt, think Pope's done a good job reaching out to alumni. We hear stories of some other guys, you know, pictures with them. He's offered up the gym to anyone. Do you all feel like Pope's doing a good job of keeping everyone all together?
Unknown Speaker E
Oh, he definitely. He definitely bleeds blue. For sure. Like, he loves it. He loves being here. He. From what I see every day, he. He seems like he's grateful and he puts his on every day. So you can't ask for much more out of a coach. I mean, winning a tournament, so it's a one game thing and you're out. So you can't really judge. Judge someone like that, even though you know that's what we do. That's you. You have to do. But, I mean, I think he's the right man for the job. Can't really put it in. No other words, perfect guy for the job.
Unknown Speaker D
Well, listen, we. We really enjoy visiting with you guys again. Kind of cool to catch up. Kind of cool. You see, you come back. I mean, you're still wearing your Kentucky stuff when you come in and talk to us and all. That's pretty cool. You got two events coming up I want to talk about. One is the one tonight. Bourbon Barrel Bourbon bottle signing. Not a bourbon barrel bourbon bottle signing that Bespoken Spirits at Grayline Station. The whole team's gonna be down there, right. Signing the. Signing the bottle. And then you got another event a week from Saturday, July 26, for the Scott County Humane Society.
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker D
So I guess as long as you guys keep winning, you'll stay here and get some opportunity. People come out and talk to you, right?
Unknown Speaker E
For sure. Definitely be excited about that. Definitely.
Unknown Speaker D
So see him tonight at the Bespoken Spirits in a week from Saturday for the Scott county main site. Listen guys, thanks a lot man. Good catching up with you again. Best of luck to you this week. This weekend. You guys try to go out and win the title now. So sir, definitely Andrew and Harrison, Andrew and Aaron Harrison, the Harrison twins back in town for the second time. Running it back. We're right back. Wrap it up here. A little bit more on Kentucky Sports Radio.

Unknown Speaker D
Thank you, Shannon.
Unknown Speaker C
I was on the DraftKings app heavily last night, made my big deposit for college football.
Unknown Speaker D
Say, what were you betting on last night?
Unknown Speaker C
Well, we got, we got the open British open, started at 1:51am this morning. Had to get those in, but they had a deposit offer, came with some bonuses. I had, I was going to put in a small deposit. I put in a very big deposit. So I'm ready to go for football, college football season.
Unknown Speaker D
Bring it on.
Unknown Speaker C
But I was, I was all over the app last night.
Unknown Speaker D
I think we're witnessing something kind of special with these TBT interviews for the third time now. We've had guys that went through some struggles and issues here and are now kind of talking through it. Khalil Whitney yesterday, Archie and the twins today. You can kind of feel their pain a little bit and like it's been good therapy for them, I think, to talk about it.
Unknown Speaker C
Absolutely. I've been an Archie defender for a long time. Love Archie. That I'm not saying that because any of my, my fandom, that's probably the best answer we've had from any player to any question in any interview ever. I mean, he was completely open.
Unknown Speaker D
That's why I just, we just let him go. Yeah, you could, you could, you could see him. You could hear it. We had to just let him go.
Unknown Speaker C
And just the Level of detail in the bat. He was going player by player and how they were used, should have been used, how injuries affected them. I mean, just leave aside him personally, he just did a great job explaining just how that whole season went, the struggles they had as a team, not let alone what he was going through himself, thinking he should be used in a different role.
Unknown Speaker D
Sham people were like, text me like, I want to give Archie a hug after he left here.
Matt Jones
Oh yeah. I mean there's, there's a lot of, you know, a lot of love that these guys I think maybe will feel in this TBT tournament that maybe they didn't, you know, necessarily feel when they were players here.
Unknown Speaker D
Exactly.
Matt Jones
Welcoming them back, you know, is always a lot of fun to see.
Unknown Speaker C
Archie's going to get buckets. He was like one of the leading scorers last year for that ever drive team. Watch Archie this weekend.
Unknown Speaker D
When you saw him, did you not think he was still 18 years old? He looks like he's 18 years old.
Unknown Speaker C
Good.
Unknown Speaker D
These guys are all 30 years old. Close to 30 years old, man. You know, they're getting up in age and I think they want to get back to what they, their love for uk, want to feel it again.
Unknown Speaker C
That's one of my biggest takeaways having covered all of these guys since Cal's first year. Like an Archie comes here and he's 18 and like any of them, they're right out of high school, they're shy, you know, they're kind of given two word answers, maybe a full sentence. You're not getting a lot out of them. They've been media trained. Now we're talking to 30 year old versions of those guys and grown men. Yeah, just having real good conversations about how it went. It's almost like we're, I mean, it's not almost. We're getting them in a different part of their life, a lot more mature and have a lot more to say about how it went.
Unknown Speaker D
But in a, in a little bit though, even with the twins, they talk about the struggles they went through, they go right back to that moment and you could see and hear like they still feel that when they were 18, 19, 20 years old, they were here.
Unknown Speaker C
And for people that only hear this and don't keep up with la familia, social media, all the stuff that's going on this week, it is really cool to see how much fans embrace these guys. Whether it's at a restaurant one night or the bottle signing tonight or over at the, the road show. Whatever they're doing, it is they're getting the same love that they were getting when they were showing up for games as college kids.
Unknown Speaker D
And I think that's why a lot of these guys have come back. Willie, the twins. Some of these guys come back or run it back again because of exactly what you just said and a lot.
Unknown Speaker C
Of ones you mentioned. You know, Andrew said it himself. He didn't get to come back from the moment he left. Yeah, they've been playing pro careers. They're just slowly reaching the end of theirs. And through tbt, they're all able to come back. We haven't. We haven't seen Archie in person probably since the Robert Morris game in Pittsburgh. So it's really good catching up with all of them.
Unknown Speaker D
Well, I think he said that. He said when that game was over, he immediately left and has not come back. But he wanted to be a part of it last year, sign with somebody else, and made it a point to come back and play again this year to be. Be a. Feel a part of the BBN family again.
Unknown Speaker C
And we're long past this, but when Pope first got hired, there was the concern of the cow guys. Oh, yeah, Would they be all in? Now, that has been proven 100 times over at this point. But there, these are just more examples.
Unknown Speaker D
And I think Pope taking the guy, his current team last year to the TBT tournament had him sitting on the in the end zone, taking him to Louisville to watch him play Louisville. I think that kind of added to that. Look, we're. We want you guys to feel as much part of this family as we feel about you guys.
Marquees Warrick
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker C
Aaron said, you know, I'm checking on a little more than I would normally. I mean, in this coming year, they have the Jalen Lowe connection that we got into a little bit. But that story has been written several times about how when he first got here, he mentioned having connections to them. I think maybe Darren Fox connection. All these Texas guards we keep getting here in Lexington.
Unknown Speaker D
Now, before we go to a break, we got a couple other guys we're going to finish up with. But I do want to tell you, today is the anniversary of an awful day in Lexington history. This is the day that Trent de Giro got murdered by Shane Ragland, July 17. And there's a new documentary out that I watched it, and it's awesome. I mean, people that know around here know the story. And it's on. It's called A Killer Among Friends and it's on hbo. It's like six different episodes. And the Trent de Giro episode is episode number One a Killer Among Friends on hbo. If you remember the story. I'm sure people around here, they know the story. It's, you know, Officer Don Evans is in it, Antonio o', Farrell, some of the guys who were involved in it. It's kind of a new, fresh look at what happened that night. I mean, the house is still over there right off campus, you know, still painted the same pale color, blue. I mean, everybody knows around here knows that house. So I just wanted to mention that, that this new documentary, one One Parter, is out now. Killer Among Friends.
Unknown Speaker C
I have to watch that. They did a Dateline episode. I remember watching that. That's how I learned most of what I know about it, because I wasn't really following at the time, but, yeah, didn't realize that. Thanks for sharing.
Unknown Speaker D
All right, we'll take our break. Come back, we got three more guys. D.J. burns, Karen Cantor and Marquise Warwick. Lexington Zone coming back to talk to us. We're right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call tj.
Unknown Speaker A
He'll make him pay.
Matt Jones
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Unknown Speaker D
All right, welcome back. Ryan, Drew and Shannon here, Kentucky Sports Radio live on the patio at KS Bar and Grill for TBT week. They play tomorrow night. So we've been rotating, like, musical chairs, Drew, different players. We had a couple guys come in yesterday. Couple guys Today we got three more. Now we got Karen Kanter and we got DJ Burns. DJs kind of the new kid on the block. We'll get to him in a minute. But, Karen, you're coming back for a second, second season after you guys had a good run last year. What made you want to come back and do it again this year?
Marquees Warrick
Yeah, I'm excited to run it back. You know, last year it was an unbelievable experience, playing three games here in Kentucky, here in front of Kentucky fans at Rap Arena. You know, they embraced me. They called me an honorary alumni.
Unknown Speaker D
Yeah.
Marquees Warrick
So it was a fun experience. You know, we got to Final Four. I felt like we played well for the most part this year. We have, you know, a different team, you know, deeper, more youth, I would say. So I'm excited to be back, excited to play with these guys and get us started on Friday.
Unknown Speaker C
Let's talk about those fans embracing you, because I'm one of them. I tried to try to find some of your jerseys online. I became such a fan. How cool was that? You know, I think there were only two players on the team that weren't former Kentucky Players, you probably a little shy coming in, and then Kentucky fans just treated you like you had played at uk. Was that expected at all? Did your brother warn you that was coming?
Marquees Warrick
No, it's not expected at all. You know, I was talking to DJ about this yesterday. Throughout the season, I was getting more love from Kentucky fans than any other school that I played for. You know, it was a really cool experience. You know, I've watched my brother, obviously didn't get to play here, but I watched his season here, and I saw how crazy the fans can get here. So it was a cool experience. I'm definitely looking forward to, you know, getting that type of love for me and my team as well.
Unknown Speaker D
So when your brother was here, did you come physically to a game at Rupp arena or to Lexington at all when he was here?
Marquees Warrick
I came to a game. I came to a game when they played Tennessee. You know, it was an unbelievable experience. You know, I got to watch guys like Brandon Knight, Terrence Jones, Daron Lamb put on a show. You know, my brother was just sitting on the sideline. You know, it sucked not having him play, but, you know, it was really cool, you know, watching a game. I think I was at the time 15 or 16 years old, my first year coming to America, so I'm like, if they have that type of love for college basketball, you know, it's cool.
Unknown Speaker C
Dj, we heard over the weekend you had quite a game. I wasn't there to watch it, but. Did you just let it all out on these guys in this room? 50 points, was that an accurate number?
Unknown Speaker H
Yeah, yeah, it was 50. I actually got encouraged by a lot of the guys to get back in and score the last four points. I was off in the second half, most apart, but, nah, I just got a lot of love. I just had fun, you know, that's all it was about. Giving back to the community. Being a people's person, you know, is definitely important to me. So, you know, I wanted to give the community a show. A lot of the guys, you know, they were a little rusty, you know, just getting off a plane and stuff like that. So somebody had to, you know, put on a little bit of a show. So, nah, I just was really more pleased and happy to that. The guys were, you know, really encouraging of it. It made me feel comfortable right off the rip.
Unknown Speaker C
So, yeah, and you're one of the guys like him that didn't actually play at uk, but you have Kentucky connections, played at Murray. Have you heard from some racers, fans that are following you now that you're back representing the Bluegrass.
Unknown Speaker H
Yeah, most definitely. Honestly, I was a little bit of nervous. You know, Murray State in Kentucky doesn't have the best relationship, but I got a lot of love from both communities. You know, Murray State fans actually hit me up, up today and I said they're going to be at the game and they'll love to take pictures and hug and stuff like that. So it's always good to come back to, you know, Kentucky, which I feel like is home for me and play for a beautiful college like University of Kentucky.
Unknown Speaker C
It's not all beef between the two. I'm from Western Kentucky. I like both. One of our employees went to Murray, so we like the Razors and the Cats. Glad to have you on the team this week.
Unknown Speaker H
Most definitely, man. I'm happy to be here, man.
Unknown Speaker D
So not only do you have the Murray State connection, you played for Sean woods at Southern.
Unknown Speaker H
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker D
So you've got that connection now?
Unknown Speaker H
Most definitely. Most definitely. Yeah. Great guy, you know, on the court, you know, he definitely knows his stuff, experience, you know, and his legacy from UK carries, you know, he knows what he's doing. So, you know, we're having him on the coaching staff, especially as the head coach. It made it a lot more comfortable to come to play, you know, for UK alumni and to be a part of the journey, because I believe these guys are one of the best teams last year. So hopefully I'm one of the secret recipes piece to get it done this year.
Unknown Speaker C
Have you had a moment yet where you're like, sean, I'm. I'm not in college anymore. I'm not really on your team. I'm not going to run right now. I'm getting older. I'm catching my breath. Or is it still. He's just still the coach and you're. You're locked in on whatever he's telling you to do?
Unknown Speaker H
Well, I mean, that's one thing I love about woods, you know, he's never going to change, no matter, you know, how old he gets, where he at, you know, no matter what that song was. And I love him for that, you know, so, you know, he doesn't change. I don't expect him to. And that's. That's what I love about him. So, you know, he still tells me, run hard, be the energy guy. Same stuff he told me in college. But that's what got me to this point, so I wouldn't stop now.
Unknown Speaker C
Sean and Ryan are very close, so Ryan, they're good buddies. Sean's been on this show many times, so we're big Sean woods fans here.
Unknown Speaker E
Absolutely.
Unknown Speaker D
Karem, you know, since you were there last year and you're here this year, how is this team different than last year's team?
Marquees Warrick
Like I said before, we're deeper. You know, we have 11 guys that can all play that are in good shape. You know, our practices have been great. We're competing, you know, and last year was Lau Familia's first year doing it. So this year we have more experience. We got to the Final Four. So I think having that experience is key for us and having veterans like Daron Lam, someone who won a championship here. You know, if you look at March Madness and tbt, they're kind of similar concept in a way that it's a win or go home. And Derom was one of those guys that went all the way and won a championship. So his I think contributions will be huge for us for sure.
Unknown Speaker D
You know, he was supposed to be on the show yesterday and we think he overslept.
Unknown Speaker C
He gets, he gets sleepy sometimes.
Marquees Warrick
Karen, that's okay. I think we'll go to second round so you guys will have time to have something.
Unknown Speaker C
There we go.
Unknown Speaker D
Somebody needs to be his wake up service. Make sure he gets up and ready for the game tomorrow night.
Marquees Warrick
Yeah, well, game's at seven, so hopefully he's up by then.
Unknown Speaker C
Yeah, we have problems if he's not up by seven. But you, you mentioned being surprised by fans and how they embraced you. Were you as surprised as I was by the atmosphere a@rup and then when you went to Louisville, which you won, I'll add, but that place was insane. Did you expect that when you committed to playing the TBT that you'd be playing in these big sold out arenas like you have been?
Marquees Warrick
Not really. So this is my fourth year playing in tbt. Two years ago I was playing for the college that I went to, Xavier, and we hosted Cincinnati and we got about 8,000 and I think that was the second most fans that was ever at a gate. First was Wichita at 9,000. I definitely didn't expect 16,000, 17,000 at a TVT game. You know, it's summertime, people usually, you know, not at school, students are not here. So it was a cool game. I'm glad we won that game. Game, you know, bragging rights for an entire year. You know, hopefully we play against those guys this year too. It was fun. I'm looking forward to that.
Unknown Speaker D
So what do you, what's your expectations then being the, the rookie on the team now this year?
Unknown Speaker H
Yeah, well, I Haven't. I don't have four years like my guy, but I played in the TBT last year. I'm a run dfw, you know, in the Louisville region. So actually I was at the game, you know, so I got to experience somewhat on the outside, but nah, I'm just ready to do my part, you know, I expect, you know, sold out arenas, I expect, you know, big time shots. I expect big time plays, you know, because that's what you want. I'm a competitor, so I didn't want to sign up for nothing that was, you know, wasn't up to par. So I believe, you know, this is one of the best competitions that you know, could be available right now. That's why I committed to playing it and you know, with the guys on my team, you know, they're big time players, players, big time shot makers. So now I'm just ready, you know, to one, be a fan of it all and see it and to two, to be a part of it, man. And like I said, just do my contribution to whatever I can do to, you know, help this team succeed for.
Unknown Speaker C
Either one of you. Since you're both veterans here. Do you like the Elam ending now that you've had it a few years playing in this is it, especially you, maybe with the ball in your hand, you like knowing one shot could call game at any moment like that.
Unknown Speaker H
Yeah, it definitely gives a little more interest to every possession, you know, down the stretch. But yeah, I mean, as a competitor, like I said, you know, you want, you know, big time shots, you know, big time plays. So. Nah, that's why I'm glad I got a lot of players on my team that, you know, all can make shots like that and all big plays. So. Yeah, it's fun, you know, when you're on the, on the good side of it, you know, but you know, it has its cons. Definitely, you know, when you're on the other side of it.
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker C
Andrew mentioned when you lose you want more time on the clock. Like no, one more minute. We got this. But it has been fun. Andrew hit the big shot in the Louisville. Did you get an Elam ending last year? Yeah, I thought you did. There you go. Yeah, I knew you had one. Feeling good getting that game winner.
Marquees Warrick
No, definitely it adds more excitement to the game. You know, the game could be a blowout but like you want to see like what's going to happen in that Elo Manning so it adds more joy and excitement. So I'm a fan of the elo.
Unknown Speaker D
Manning well, of course you're going to feel the. You already know the love is going to be there this weekend. You're going to feel the love. I mean, they'll embrace you. You'll be at Kentucky. Well, Wildcat now for life. You guys wearing your Kentucky look. He's got.
Unknown Speaker H
Yeah, I got love. I got a lot of love so far, man. Even gave my own little personal UK bag and stuff like that. So now, man, you know, they didn't. They didn't embrace me. More than love.
Unknown Speaker D
So we can't use the S word, but you guys did have a little gathering yesterday.
Unknown Speaker C
Not a scrimmage. Not a scrimmage.
Unknown Speaker D
It wasn't a scrimmage. It's just a gathering. What was your takeaway of the team you played against yesterday, Karen?
Marquees Warrick
Yeah, so we've done a similar. Similar concept last year as well. You know, I think last year's team versus this team is a little bit different.
Unknown Speaker D
How are they different?
Marquees Warrick
I think last year I think they relied on outside shots more and a little bit more physical. I think this year's team has more skill and guys that can, you know, do multiple things. You know, I was a fan of Ortega. Yeah, you know, I think he's going to be a leader. He's going to, you know, be the guy for them. But I think they have 10, 11 guys that can play, so that was really cool to see. You know, I'm looking forward to seeing these guys. I think they, you know, they put up a good fight yesterday, so I'm looking forward to following them all season long.
Unknown Speaker D
What about you, dj?
Unknown Speaker H
Yeah, man, I just seen a lot of explosiveness, like you said. You know, they got a lot of young talent over there, and those guys, you know, they're not. No pushovers for sure. They definitely could hold their own and. And some more. So now I'm excited to see how the Wildcats do this year. I'm expecting big things from them. They got a lot of great, great talent over there. And like I said, man, I'm expecting a lot of explosive plays, a lot of great.
Unknown Speaker D
That's what we need to hear. That's what we want to hear. Listen, thanks for coming out, guys. Really appreciate it. Good to get to know both of you, really. I know you were here last year. We didn't get to visit with you much. Dj, welcome to Lexington.
Marquees Warrick
Thank you.
Unknown Speaker D
And go out and win us a tournament.
Unknown Speaker H
Most definitely go well, because.
Unknown Speaker D
All right, we'll take our break. Come back. Mark Marquese Warrick, our next player up visiting the musical chairs of the TBT team. We'll be right back.

Joining us now, a newcomer to the LA Familia TBT team. But he's an old man, considered a Lexington guy. I've seen this guy play probably a dozen times over his career. Marquees Warrick from Henry Clay, played at Northern Kentucky, played at Missouri last year. You kind of hurt Kentucky, man.
Unknown Speaker C
What the heck?
Unknown Speaker D
What are you doing, man? Playing against your home team. So. But appreciate you joining us. Congratulations. Welcome to tbt. Well, wait a minute. I turned down the wrong one. Now go.
Unknown Speaker C
That was Ryan's fault.
Unknown Speaker E
Thank you. Thank you for having me.
Unknown Speaker D
You started your career at Northern, played for Darren Horn, had a great career there.
Unknown Speaker C
All Horizon, great hit.
Unknown Speaker D
A couple drew mentioned a couple big buck buzzer beaters played what the decision then to transfer, got to play in the SEC against Missouri last year. That had to be a big thrill for you.
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah, it was. Yeah. You know, just making that jump and like you said, all four years in Northern Kentucky and I had a great career there and you know, I just wanted to prove something, you know, at a bigger level.
Unknown Speaker C
Ryan mentioned it, but the Kentucky game, even though it went well for the Wildcats, you got pretty hot. If you didn't lead Missouri in scoring. You had to been close, 17, 18 points, something like that. Was it because of that Lexington connection and that logo on that jersey? Did it wake you up a little bit or I think you all were in a funk at the time. Did you just know that the team needed to get back on the right track? Any extra motivation there at all?
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah, I'll be honest, it was a little bit of both. You know, you know how guys get hyped up and things like that to play Kentucky, but at that, you know, my hometown school, school, I grew up watching and so, you know, just to Play against them. You know, I meant a little bit more in that game, especially at home. It was senior day too, so. But also it was just me staying ready when my name is called and just being ready to go and do what I do out there.
Unknown Speaker C
And Kentucky really needed to win that free SEC tournament. So I apologize. Anything I said towards your direction, my television while you were knocking down five three pointers or whatever it was every.
Unknown Speaker D
Time you touched the ball, knocking down a three pointer. Yeah, against Kentucky. So I mentioned you said your mom still lives here in Lexington. So you still spend a lot of time when you. During the off season, coming back.
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Every time. You know, during my college career. Coming back during the spring and sometimes in the summer when we have breaks for workouts.
Marquees Warrick
But.
Unknown Speaker E
But yeah, I love Lexington. I've been here basically all my life and you know, I love just coming back and seeing my mom and the friends as well as, well, you know.
Unknown Speaker D
Seeing you kind of grow at Henry Clay. You now ended up Henry Clay's all time scoring leader. A great basketball school. You just. Every year you got better and better and better.
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah, yeah. And I tell people all the time. I basically did it in three years because I barely played my freshman year. But. But yeah, I mean, just great tradition there. And at the time I took over the. The record from the assistant coach, Steve Miller, who played there.
Unknown Speaker D
Mr. Basketball in Kentucky.
Unknown Speaker E
Shout out to Steve Miller. You know, he held us since 1984, so wish I could have the career he had with State Championships and Mr. Basketball. But. But yeah, I mean, I had a great time there and just a lot of hard work and patience.
Unknown Speaker C
Your time in Missouri is still fresh. So I understand if it's awkward admitting this, but did you like Kentucky growing up when you were in Lexington, did you follow the Cats closely?
Unknown Speaker E
I follow them closely. I've always been a basketball junkie. So I've watched a lot of games with Kentucky basketball. But no, I didn't grow up a fan at all. I never wore Kentucky blue. I was actually a Florida Gator fan.
Unknown Speaker D
What?
Unknown Speaker E
Honestly, I was.
Unknown Speaker D
What's wrong with you? Play right down the road over here.
Unknown Speaker E
I. Since I was a little kid, just Florida Gators, that was my dream school.
Unknown Speaker D
So you playing? I guess just in the offseason. Twaney Beckham calls you, says, hey man, you interested in playing with us? How'd that conversation go?
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah, it was just a few weeks ago. I talked to. It was my first interaction. I talked to Lamont Campbell, he played for Sean woods and he was about to be on the staff at Scott county with him.
Unknown Speaker D
Oh, I didn't know that. Is he really. He's a Henry Clay guy.
Unknown Speaker E
Clay guy, yeah. So he, he brought up the idea to me. I was like, yeah, I'm interested potentially, because I was thinking about. I was still going through the pre draft stuff and also looking for some of the opportunities, but. But then, you know, Twaney and Ethan Corey on the, on the staff, you know, they hit me up and they said, do I want to play? I was like, yeah, I'm interested for sure. So, yeah, I mean, anytime I could just come out here and, you know, play with, you know, Kentucky legends and meet new people and things like that and make connections, you know, I was definitely down for you.
Unknown Speaker C
And I guess Ansley Almanor have the freshest legs on the team, having just finished your college careers a few months ago. Yeah. Do you think just coming off of SEC basketball, toughest conference, that gives you all just a little bit of advantage, at least with youth and the experience you're just coming out of?
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah, definitely, definitely. Like you said, just having those fresh legs, being young, being able to basically, I mean, if we want to play almost the whole game, we really, if we really. If we needed to, because we just came off a season and you know, we're still a little bit young, so. Compared to our teammates, so. But yeah, there's definitely an advantage and definitely something that will be used for sure.
Unknown Speaker D
So after the TBT tournament's over, what's next for you? Well, you're going to look to play overseas somewhere or.
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah, yeah, definitely looked at the pro options, whether it's overseas or G League route, one of the two. But yeah, I've had an agent for a little bit now and we've been talking about. We haven't talked specifically Civics yet, but we will after tbt, you know, hopefully after we win, win big. So, yeah, that's the plan.
Unknown Speaker C
You're part of a big team here with big expectations, but, you know, this could be an opportunity too, for you to, you know, get some exposure. This will be on FS1 tomorrow night. Do you think there's any chance maybe this could even help propel your career if you were to have a good run with la familia?
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah, that's. That's one of the biggest reasons why I'm on the team right now. Just to be on this stage, be on the platform to be able to show what I can do. You know, I want to win first and foremost. But also this will. This can Open a lot of career opportunities for me in the future. So that's why I'm here.
Unknown Speaker C
It's a good thing with you and Ansley. Other guys are kind of not at retirement or getting close to it and you guys are just getting started. So this could be a big opportunity for both of you.
Unknown Speaker D
So it's run on the rundown a little bit. Tonight you guys are at 6 o' clock at Bespoken Spirits over at Greyline Station for a bourbon bottle signing. The whole team's going to be there so fans have a chance to kind of interact with them, get pictures, get some autographs, things like that. They will sign the bottle only, I believe is what I understand. The bottle that's available. And then the game is tomorrow night at 9 o' clock over here at historic Memorial Coliseum. Have you ever chanced to play in Memorial Coliseum growing up?
Unknown Speaker E
Not a real game. I remember we practiced for Henry Clay. We practiced one time in preparation for the region tournament at uku. That was the only time I really ever been over there. But. But yeah, I've came to some games over there and. But yeah, I'm very familiar with Memorial Coliseum, though.
Unknown Speaker C
Expecting lots of friends and family. Being the hometown kid on the team. You got a lot of people asking about it.
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah, yeah. Unfortunately, we only get a couple complimentary tickets, but see what I can do, though. First.
Unknown Speaker C
Tickets available.
Unknown Speaker D
Tickets available. Nine o' clock tomorrow, man. Good catching up with you, man. Congratulations. We kind of got. Like I said, I've got to watch you over the years. So welcome back back to Lexington. And you got to get you some blue and white clothes to wear now.
Unknown Speaker E
Yeah, I don't got number.
Unknown Speaker C
They'll take care of you over there.
Unknown Speaker D
All right, that's me that's going to do it for today's show. Tomorrow we're back in studio. We got some other things lined up for tomorrow. But tonight and tomorrow it's all tbt. So thanks to all the guys that came out and joined us and Drew and I realized we watched DJ Burns play when Youngstown State Shannon 2 Shannon.
Unknown Speaker C
Was throw him under the bus with us.
Unknown Speaker D
Played at Ohio University. We stopped at Ohio University. They were playing Youngtown State and D.J. burns had 14 points and 11 rebounds in that game.
Unknown Speaker C
DraftKings road trip to the packers game. We saw D.J.
Matt Jones
Bern.
Unknown Speaker C
I know he looked familiar. Never would have placed that.
Unknown Speaker D
That was kind of cool. So I appreciate everybody coming out. Marque, thank you very much, man. Good luck to you and best of luck in your future. So we'll be back well tomorrow. Ryan, Drew and Shannon this has been Kentucky Sports Radio Gatorade Zero the number.
