Welcome back to Kentucky Sports Radio here live at Kentucky Customs and Upfitting in Nicholasville. It is beautiful day. Ryan Lemon has been entertaining folks during the break. I'm going to still give away a bottle of Blanton's here in just a bit. Another gift basket, $200 in gift cards and UK Purdue tickets if you get here before the end of the show. This is the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety KSR Safe Summer Driving Tour. Ryan, you went outside and you tried to bust a watermelon that has been coated in the protective coating used in bed liners and I watched you and it's pretty impressive. That's A watermelon, and you had no chance of going through it.
Ryan Lemon
I, I had a little sledgehammer. Didn't do anything.
Shannon The Dude
That was a mallet.
Ryan Lemon
So they went and got a big sledgehammer. I felt like I was Hulk Hogan out there. Rolling that thing around, bounced it like a basketball. Didn't crack, didn't budge, didn't do, didn't. It didn't do anything to it.
Drew Franklin
So this material they use like this really holds up. I mean, I, I, I, I didn't think it would break because I thought if they did, that wouldn't be a good look for them.
Shannon The Dude
Probably been tested before, but it's indestructible.
Drew Franklin
But, I mean, that's pretty indestructible. So you can get this on your truck bed and then nothing will hurt it.
Tyler Thompson
If we were still in la familia heading to Freedom hall this week, I dipped my fist in it to go protect myself. But watching Ryan out there, you all heard me, I was about 90% sure that the sledgehammer is going to kick back at him in the face. Because these things do have some bounce to them.
Ryan Lemon
That water, it's a watermelon and didn't even come close to cracking it.
Drew Franklin
Challenges, you're not very good at things, but you can come and get these. I said till July 31. Apparently it's August 31.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, nice.
Drew Franklin
So you have till August 31 to come to Kentucky customs. And upfitting. If you mention KSR, you get 10% off the spray in bed liners, undercoating, and rust prevention through the end of August. If I had a truck, which I don't because I don't carry anything, but if I had a truck, I would certainly get this.
Ryan Lemon
You think it would also help you protect against the weather? You know, you put it in your bed liner, protect it from damage, but also from the weather.
Drew Franklin
There you go. Look at you being smart. All right, let's go over a couple news.
Ryan Lemon
He just told me that.
Drew Franklin
Oh, did he tell you that? Okay.
Tyler Thompson
It's called weather Trek.
Mario Maitland
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
All right, well, you know what? Let's talk about a couple things here in the news before we go back to phones. We, I mean, to talk about this all week, I write down 12 topics. We have yet to get to this one, but we will get it today. Drew. Ty, you looking at me like that, you're gonna get at me pointing Tyron Stokes, the number one player in the class of 2026. It was assumed for a long time he was going to go to Louisville. He's from Cal. The connection was with Louisville, but now reports are kind of hinting that it might be Kentucky. Kentucky has not gotten the number one overall player since what, Anthony Davis. I think it was. I mean, because Carl Towns was number two to Jalil Okafor. I think it was Anthony Davis. Are we going to get him?
Tyler Thompson
They've certainly made a lot of noise lately. And if you're following the Joe Tiptons and even people on our website, you know they just had the Peach Jam this past weekend. So this is when you get maybe some of the best recruiting buzz all year. And whatever was going on down there, there seems to be a big momentum push towards Kentucky. Not gonna sit here and say they're getting right away or anything, but they are squarely in the race. When it did look like Louisville had a pretty big lead on if you.
Drew Franklin
Get the number one point. First of all, there's still been a little bit of, well, can they get an elite recruit that's not from Kentucky? I mean, that's still been kind of the question. This would answer it, Ryan.
Ryan Lemon
There's no doubt about that. I think that's the one knock on Pope right now. He proved he's brought in this really good recruiting class and transfers. But can you go out get the elite freshman that's not from good times.
Tyler Thompson
He's from Louisville, but he left.
Drew Franklin
He's not. If he. If he didn't play high right now, I will still give him credit if he's able to get him.
Shannon The Dude
Still goes to show you the brand. Kentucky still means something. That's kind of what we were talking about last hour, you know, with the nil money, it. Does that Kentucky name still mean something? And clearly it does if you have the chance to get the number one player.
Tyler Thompson
A lot of his family grew up liking Louisville, so it'd be a big distill him.
Drew Franklin
No, it would be. I mean, Louisville's assumed they were going to get this kid for a year and a half and if at the last minute they lose him and then also lose him to Kentucky. Drew, I think that's going to make. I mean, imagine a kid from Lexington who grows up a Kentucky fan. We think he's coming here and then, you know, right before his senior year, he picks Louisville. I mean, I think that would be a pretty devastating blow. That might be what happens with Louisville here.
Tyler Thompson
And not all number one players in every class are the same. Sometimes you have down years, guys turn out to be this.
Drew Franklin
This kid's real.
Tyler Thompson
Looks like a guy that's Going to be one of the dudes.
Drew Franklin
This will be. I mean, you know, we don't have him yet, and obviously guys can work out or not.
Mario Maitland
They.
Drew Franklin
This will be the biggest talent to come to Lexington. Take all of the guys Cal got, and there were a lot of amazing talents. If you're talking high school pedigree, this will be the biggest high school pedigree guy they've brought in since John Wall.
Ryan Lemon
That's pretty impressive.
Drew Franklin
I mean, Anthony Davis ended up being amazing and he was number one, but he was a late riser and, like.
Tyler Thompson
Almost committed to Cleveland State.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I mean, he was going to go to Cleveland State. This will be the highest pedigree guy to come to Kentucky since John Wall. If he comes. And I think, like, everybody needs to take a step back and say, I mean, I'll go even further. Let's say he comes here. This might be the. This might be one of the five highest pedigree guys to ever commit to Kentucky. Like, that's not. Again, I'm just talking high school pedigree. I'm not saying he's going to be a great. Like, a great player, but who. Who in high school had a better pedigree than this guy? Wall, Mashburn, Anybody else? I mean, even Rex was not ranked number one in his class. I think it's like Wall, Mashburn, and him. Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
You know, like Drew said, he's got his roots in Kentucky, but he's been a consensus number one player, I think, even since last year. People were saying even as a junior, he was the best player in the country.
Drew Franklin
When else have we gotten the number one player? Anthony Davis was one, Carl Towns was one, Carl Towns was two and Randall was two. Randall was two. BJ Boston was actually like three. Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
Nerland.
Drew Franklin
Nerlens is actually a good one. Nerlands is higher than. But Nerlands, as people forget he was. I still don't think he's this. I think it's him and Wall literally, like, pretty good company.
Tyler Thompson
And I'm petty. Anytime we've gotten those guys, you've beaten North Carolina, Kansas to beat Louisville. I mean, before he even puts on his sneakers in Lexington, you've got a win for a kid they thought they've had for. For a long time.
Drew Franklin
When is he deciding.
Tyler Thompson
I don't know. That he's put a date on it. Okay.
Drew Franklin
All right, next.
Tyler Thompson
We love everything that's happened.
Drew Franklin
Cutter Bowley, it was announced our quarterback now, again, our backup right now, they say, has put on 20 pounds of muscle. Ryan, you're Mr. Optimist here. Now for UK football, you, Shannon was the on the train. Now you're on the train. Does the 20 pounds of extra bowly muscly. Does it make you happy?
Ryan Lemon
It does make me happy. Because I heard during the off season he did everything right as far as in the training room, working out, getting the film room, studying the game a little bit more. Everything you've heard about Cutter bowling since last season, I think has been positive. So I think he, he will be a star here someday if it's even as nice.
Drew Franklin
Is he going to play this year?
Ryan Lemon
He'll play some. I think he'll play some.
Drew Franklin
What does that mean, though?
Ryan Lemon
He'll play some.
Shannon The Dude
You mean, like, what, Kentucky's blowing out Ole Miss?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I mean, I guess there's like three options. One is he only plays if somebody gets hurt. Right. Two is they share time and then three is Calzada underperforms and Bowley is the starter. Which one's it going to be?
Ryan Lemon
I think they have put some packages in for him.
Drew Franklin
I always hear that. Nobody ever puts any packages in. Like, they always say they're going to put packages in.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, they do.
Drew Franklin
Did who?
Ryan Lemon
What was the quarterback from Owensboro last year? I can't remember letting him draw the blank.
Drew Franklin
Gavin Whimsy. Yeah. Yeah. He ran the ball at the goal line against Ole Miss. But that's not going to be Cutter Bowley.
Tyler Thompson
No, the Cutter Bowley. Go line run.
Drew Franklin
I mean, what do you think? Who do you, do you think he plays well?
Tyler Thompson
First of all, I was playing the video game yesterday and Calzada got hurt and Bowley came in and went 7 for 8 against Tennessee. So I was pretty excited about what I saw out of Virtual Bully.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Tyler Thompson
But I think this is Calzada's job for the year. Outside of injury. I do think they'll try to get Bolly in as often as they can in your Eastern Michigan games and where they have opportunities to get him going. Because I think the following year he's your starter, but I think it's going to be mostly Calzada this season.
Drew Franklin
Do you think he's your starter? Like, like you're not going in the portal and getting a quarterback next year?
Tyler Thompson
I don't think so. I really like what we've seen out of Bowley. He was put in a horrible spot last year at Florida and at Texas. Yeah. So I, I. You can't form too many opinions about that.
Drew Franklin
I actually thought he played all right in Texas. Yeah.
Tyler Thompson
And at Florida, they took him off the bench without warming him up and had him throw that little out route for an interception. But anyway, I think. I do think he is the plan for next season after a year.
Shannon The Dude
I mean, you got to think about it, too. If he put on 20 pounds of muscle this year, then another 20 pounds the next year, that's gonna be 40 pounds of muscle. And who's gonna stop that guy? That's gonna be the most indestructible quarterback we've ever had.
Drew Franklin
He's gonna have 24 inch pythons at that point.
Matt Jones
Brother.
Tyler Thompson
The person we need to ask is right there. Because I watched Mario and cutter Bowley on YouTube last night.
Drew Franklin
Oh, that's right. Come here. Yeah. Come here. Yeah, because I forgot you. You interviewed Cutter Bowley.
Tyler Thompson
We're not allowed in that building.
Drew Franklin
But Mario, you had him on the what's Next podcast, an exclusive Mario interview. Did he look bigger to you?
Caller
He looked huge. We had a segment on our show where showed him images from the past, and it was from his freshman year and. And I instantly could see the difference in his body from his freshman year to his sophomore year.
Drew Franklin
Like, you mean like in it. Like a chest?
Caller
He's solid. He's solid now.
Drew Franklin
All right. What did he say? Does he expect to play? What can we learn on the what's Next podcast, hosted by Mario Maitland. He.
Caller
He's really excited about his teammates. Jamari Macklin, he said, is up for a big year. He didn't really, you know, talk much about himself. He said obviously he's learned a lot from his past, the past year playing under those quarterbacks, but he was really focused on mostly his teammates.
Drew Franklin
But you think he's bigger?
Caller
He's way bigger. He's waver. He's solid, man.
Drew Franklin
We'll give Mario a big round of applause here. Speaking of bigger, do you think Jamari Macklin is the number one receiver this year?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, I think that's why he came back. You know, Dane left and Barry on left, and Macklin came back because he saw that chance to be the number one guy. We saw glimpses of it last year. I mean, he's super talented, and I think with him and Fred Farrier and coming these guys on there, he'll be the main.
Drew Franklin
All right. Do you have you bought Nebraska gear?
Ryan Lemon
I haven't yet, but I will.
Drew Franklin
Are you gonna wear one of those stupid corn hats?
Ryan Lemon
If that's what it takes that day. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Are you gonna go to Link?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. The day Kentucky's off, Nebraska hosts Michigan. So we're Josiah and are going oh.
Drew Franklin
You'Re going to that game.
Shannon The Dude
Big game to go to.
Drew Franklin
That's a. You know, that's a long trip.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. That's a long drive. And it's a whole.
Ryan Lemon
We're not. We're not driving. You can fly from Lexington to Atlanta to Lincoln.
Drew Franklin
Oh, they. There's a. There's an airport in Lincoln.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Okay. So you're gonna. You're gonna fly.
Ryan Lemon
I'm gonna do that.
Drew Franklin
So you. You've got to wear one of those corn.
Ryan Lemon
Okay, I'll do that.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, those little, like, corn genitalia that come out of people's head.
Ryan Lemon
Well, I don't know if I want to call it that, but I don't.
Tyler Thompson
Know what you're talking about, to be honest.
Drew Franklin
Don't they wear a little.
Ryan Lemon
Maybe family show?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, maybe that's just something I think about. Who's up next?
Tyler Thompson
Bluegrass is up.
Drew Franklin
Bluegrass. Go ahead. Bluegrass.
Mario Maitland
What's going on, fellas? It's been a while. It's been since basketball season, since I called.
Drew Franklin
Nice to hear from you.
Mario Maitland
Well, let's talk a little bit. See, up in East Kentucky, we never. We never end evaluating our coaches. And what I've noticed, the more I look into this, Matt, the more I see my man is a genius. I'm watching the tbt, and no disrespect to Angley Almanor, but he couldn't hardly even play out there. You know, he's a mismatch. And how did our coach, Mark Pope, how did he get him on the court so often?
Drew Franklin
Let me go further than that. Let's go further than that. And again, none of this is to devalue our last year, because I not only think they were good, I really, really, really enjoyed liking them or watching them play. Ansley Almanor couldn't even get on the court in the tbt. Andrew Carr, Jackson Robinson, you know, those. The Lamont Butler. Those dudes played in the summer league. And with the exception of Kobe Braya, you know, I mean, did you hear anything about them?
Ryan Lemon
No.
Drew Franklin
A lot of. I mean, I don't even know if Lamont Butler got into games in the summer league. Kobe Bryant had a good summer league, but.
Mario Maitland
And I just remember. And go ahead. I just remember Cal saying, we can't hide you, but I guess you just can't take that attitude. We can't hide you. We'll find a way to put you in there and make you official.
Drew Franklin
Mari played well, actually. Amari played well in the summer league. He actually did really well. But my point is, and I Appreciate the call. There is nobody on that team. I think Brea is definitely gonna make the Suns, but I'm not sure any of those other guys. Amari might make it. We'll see. He'll definitely be in the G league for a while. But like what we did last year with that roster, I, I, I think Pope's, maybe I'm wrong, but I think he is going to be great here. I mean, I think he's got, he's got guys who can be stars this year. He's got a potential top five pick in Jaden acquaintance. He's got a potential top 20 pick in Jasper Johnson. He's got away returning. I think Jaylen Lowe's going to be a star. I mean, I, I think I feel better about what Pope did last year, Drew, after watching the summer league and the tbt than I did before.
Tyler Thompson
Yeah, me too. It's a small sample size, so we'll see. Still see what the Pope experience is like. But you're looking at what he did with Almanor and now your depth piece next year could be like a yellow bitch. Or you had last year. He has freshman Travis Perry, Colin Chandler, Trent Noah as his depth. Now he has those guys, Montes, Perry as sophomores, plus Malachi Marino is like your third option at big man. So if he took the bench that he had last year and did what he did now, they're much better and much deeper. I want to see how he can develop this group.
Drew Franklin
I mean, everybody agrees the roster is better this year than it was last year.
Tyler Thompson
Absolutely.
Drew Franklin
Does everybody agree with that?
Tyler Thompson
Actually, just on paper, in the summer.
Drew Franklin
I mean, just on paper, we'll see what happens when they do it. But I think, I don't think there's any doubt that they are. They're better. Most people hear the word remodel and immediately think of stress. Contractors that grow. I said gross ghost you prices that change halfway through and results that don't look like what you had in mind. Not estate renovations, Shannon. They do it differently. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Here live, Kentucky customs and upfitting in Nicholasville. Spray on bed liners. Window tint with a lifetime warranty. Did you see. Speaking of window tinting, did you see the video of that? You can get that here. Billy Joel in New York, did you see that video? Billy Joe was like riding down the road in a. In his Suburban. His window was tinted. And they pulled up to one of those guys that like is riding a bike pulling people. What do you call those? You know what I'm talking about. What do you call those? Rick, Is it a rickshaw with a bike? I thought rickshaw was when you pulled it. Yeah, so it's not a rickshaw, but anyway, a guy riding a bike pulling people and there were two people and the bike was playing Billy Joe and the two people in the back were singing Billy Joel. So they're just riding down the road and Billy Joel is like, this is a documentary. Billy Joe's like, the driver goes, hey, they're listening to you. So they're sitting there singing New York State of Mind or whatever. He just pulls up, rolls the window down and starts singing with them. That's cool. Can you imagine? You're just in your little, to use Billy's word, rickshaw, and you're riding down the road in New York and then the singer of the song you're doing pulls up next to you and starts singing.
Tyler Thompson
It's getting older. They recognize him. That would have been awful if he thought he was gonna have this moment. They're like, get out of here, old man.
Shannon The Dude
Crazy guy over here.
Drew Franklin
We're having a Romantic moment where you go away.
Shannon The Dude
Nyc. You never know. It could be either one. It could be Billy Joe. Could be crazy guy.
Drew Franklin
That's actually. I hadn't thought about the fact that they would not know who he was. Scowl was the number one player in the country.
Ryan Lemon
Yes, that's right.
Drew Franklin
I don't. You know what? I did not remember that. But he was.
Ryan Lemon
We forget because he ended up eighth man, I think on our team, the.
Shannon The Dude
Worst number one player we've ever had.
Drew Franklin
Wow. That was.
Shannon The Dude
I mean, it's true.
Mario Maitland
Fair.
Shannon The Dude
It's fair, is it not?
Tyler Thompson
Well, hype was a little weird because when is high school like made up?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, he didn't have a real high school. One person writes, Matt, I'm on my way to my remote. The Long John's line is out to the road. Good night.
Ryan Lemon
Well, have Billy go get us a spot now.
Drew Franklin
What is with you people in Long John? I mean, do we need to turn.
Tyler Thompson
Chaos Bar into fried fish?
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Why am I spending all this money trying to make KS Bar better? Why don't I just start making long johns too?
Shannon The Dude
I don't know. You should. I mean everybody loves it right now. Probably because it's brand new though, right?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
After that, the Kentucky Oaks announced they are moving to prime time. The Kentucky Oaks will be on NBC. Regular NBC in prime time. The race will will go at 8:30 under the lights in. In Louisville on network TV. I would assume, Drew, this is step one to the Derby doing that sometime in the near future. Do you like. I'm shocked that horse racing has done so well that they're going to put the Oaks in prime time network TV. I know that doesn't mean what it did 10 years ago, but it's still pretty big audience. Do you like the Oaks under the Lights next year?
Tyler Thompson
At first I liked it for the attention and then I saw a long Facebook post from. Is there a place like Jack Fries in Louisvill?
Drew Franklin
Yes, there is a Jack Fries.
Tyler Thompson
They were talking about how it completely kills Louisville getting restaurants. They said people are already on Oaks Day. They book reservations and don't show. They said we've seen a huge decline already with Oaks and now they're saying they're just not considering the Louisville economy outside of Churchill Downs because a lot of those places will sit empty until late at night. So until I thought of that angle, I thought it was good. But reading their posts and it was very detailed, I kind of take that angle. I'm worried about all the places in Louisville that.
Drew Franklin
Wait, that's true. They have those Parties?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. What happens.
Mario Maitland
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
What happens with Brown and all those parties? That's. Yeah, I hadn't thought of that.
Tyler Thompson
It's not just Jack Fries. There's a lot of, like your party. They're charitable events. And this was talking about how Churchill is just keeping every dollar to itself and not thinking about the city. But I side with you, Jack.
Drew Franklin
So far be it for me to take up for a multinational corporation that doesn't even let us in a lot of the times with Churchill Downs. But I mean, is that. Is it their role to sit and worry about the restaurants? I mean, if they get a chance to have their track on network TV nationally, don't they just have to do that? I mean, I get what. Jack, that makes perfect sense to me. But you know, if they come to you and say, we want to put your race on network TV and it's not even the Derby, don't you have to do that if you're.
Shannon The Dude
I understand Drew's side of it too, but Churchill Downs isn't, You know, it's not their role to save Louisville. You know, they're worried about Churchill Downs. They're worried about their money. But I definitely understand his side of things too.
Drew Franklin
Well, they've made that. It's such a long day. I know when I go to the Oaks, as soon as it's over, I don't feel like doing anything.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Because it is. It is such a long day. So I. I can see why the restaurants would. But you know, boys to men aren't.
Shannon The Dude
Gonna have a gig anymore.
Drew Franklin
That's true. What is Travis Trent gonna do? He's living. Ryan, you've been going to this forever. If you were at lax, would you be glad they're going tonight?
Ryan Lemon
I would hate every second of it. That means you're not gonna get out of the track till you got to turn around and be there at six o' clock the next morning for the Derby. I would spit and cuss and fart and be everything to keep from having to do that.
Tyler Thompson
So you always do in your math.
Shannon The Dude
Yes, that is true, though it's a quick turnaround.
Drew Franklin
Oh, well, I mean that, you know, if the race is at 8:30, they will not clear that place out till 10 or 11 o' clock at night. Yeah, the day is going to start at 12:30 now. You know, they used to start those races at like 9 or 10 in the morning. Now the day won't even start until 12:30. And we'll go until evening. This is gonna. By the way, this is coming for the Derby. If they're doing this for the Oaks, they're just going to see if it works and then eventually do it for them.
Shannon The Dude
Do the horses get to sleep in now? They don't have to be up at 4:30 in the morning, maybe start having normal hours.
Drew Franklin
We should ask the horses. They're very opinions.
Tyler Thompson
They would probably vote nay.
Drew Franklin
Who's up next?
Ryan Lemon
Oh, well done. Well done.
Drew Franklin
Such a terrible joke.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, that's a great joke.
Drew Franklin
All right, who's next?
Ryan Lemon
Rick Kyle is up next.
Drew Franklin
Kyle, go ahead. 859-280-2287. Kyle.
Mario Maitland
Yes. First, let me say rip to Ozzy and Hulk Hogan and Malcolm Jamal Warner. And Malcolm Jamal Warner. Yes, that's right. It always happens in three, unfortunately. One other thing, it's funny you brought up Cutter Bowler early. I have Cutter Bowley Scoop if you would like to hear it.
Drew Franklin
I'd love to hear your Cutter Bowley scoop if you can give it to me in 30 seconds.
Mario Maitland
All right. My boss is friends with his dad. His dad said that he's fine being the backup this year, but next year if he's not legit in the running for the starting quarterback, he's out of here.
Drew Franklin
Well, he should. I mean, that should be his position. I mean, I appreciate the call. If he, he's been here, if he puts in this time and he is next year not the starter, then I, I think it would totally make sense, Ryan, if he would leave, I would.
Ryan Lemon
Nobody would fault him.
Drew Franklin
I would not fault him at all for that. You know, keeps putting on muscle mass. We're, here's the thing. We haven't gone through a UK season without a quarterback getting hurt in like 15 years. He's going to play some. Oh, yeah, everybody gets hurt. Every Kentucky quarterback we've ever had has missed some time to being hurt. So that's what's going to happen this year as well. We'll take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back Kee Sports Radio. Here it is, Kentucky customs and upfitting spray and bed liners. Fleet up feeding upfitting for trucks and vans. The premier upfitter for jeeps and trucks in Kentucky is right here in Nicholsville on Howard Road.
Ryan Lemon
Howard Road.
Drew Franklin
I got it right. All right, two quick things. First of all, thank you to this man, Tom, who just came over. He brought me a book for my mom. It is a bible atlas, which is nice enough in and of itself because my mom will like this, but it was made in 1915 and published in Middlesborough, Kentucky What? He brought it to give to my mom really much. She will very much appreciate it.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, that's pretty cool.
Drew Franklin
So that's kind of cool. I didn't even know Middlesbrough.
Ryan Lemon
Your mom will love that.
Drew Franklin
She will, absolutely. She loves it. And let me just say about my mom, she's getting her doctorate in. You know, she already graduated from seminary. She's getting. Or. She's getting a doctor in religion, I think it's what it's called. Or. And at Wheaton University in Chicago, and she just finished her first semester on Thursday. So congratulations to my mom. I mean, think again. Everybody brags about their kids and their mother, but my mom is 71 years old, and she is. And she decides everybody else, they retire and they rest. My mom's out there going to Chicago to do graduate school. I just. How awesome is that?
Ryan Lemon
So if she gets all age, you take her to Cracker Barrel for an all or a good report card.
Drew Franklin
She always gets an A. And she always is, like. She's, like, worried before the final, oh, am I gonna pass? And, like, she gets all nervous that we've completely flipped roles. Like, I have to be the parent going, are you studying? Okay? Then you're gonna be fine. Like, don't worry about it.
Ryan Lemon
We have.
Drew Franklin
We have completely flipped roles when it comes to this.
Tyler Thompson
We need to get you a little bumper sticker that says, proud son of a 40 student.
Drew Franklin
Awesome. Embarrassing.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, that's good.
Drew Franklin
I would love us. I would love that. I also. I got. I will say she had a paper due at the end of the term, and it was due. Let's say it was due on a Monday and 10 days before it was due. She said, I finished my paper. I'm going to turn it in. You know what I said to her? Don't do that. I was like, do not turn it in 10 days early. Right. And she said, but I'm already done with it. And I said, yeah, but that'll just make you look like a brown nosing. Like, just wait. And she goes, well, I'm not gonna be like you and turn it in.
Shannon The Dude
Five minutes before you do Procrastinator. Then it makes you look bad.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. I said, well, wait, like, three days before it's due. And then she did that. And I think that was a better. A better?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. You don't want the other students to call her the teacher's pet.
Drew Franklin
Exactly. And if I'm a professor and I get a paper 10 days before it's due, I'm gonna go, well, you probably could have Done more work on this.
Shannon The Dude
She's bringing her paperback with a big there next time.
Drew Franklin
But I did say, I was like, you don't want to be the teacher's pet. And so, you know, I was trying to. I'm being the parent.
Tyler Thompson
You are. Nobody likes the. The kid in class. It's like, oh, you forgot the quiz today.
Drew Franklin
Exactly right. I didn't want mom to be like that. All right, tell me about Stockton Morgans before I go to the phone.
Ryan Lemon
Oh, I've got a good read for you here today.
Drew Franklin
While you're putting it up, who's up next?
Ryan Lemon
Will is up next.
Drew Franklin
Will. Go ahead, Will.
Mario Maitland
Hey, Matt, sorry if somebody brought the up already, but I had to want to call in and say how much I enjoyed your segment the other night with Myron on fun facts of Massachusetts. And.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, okay, before you go on, we. They doing this thing, 50 states in 50 days. Right. And so every day you focus on a new state. So the day, the other day when I did the show, it was Massachusetts. And they were making fun of me saying, that's not how you say it. I said Massachusetts. They're like, it's Massachusetts.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, yeah.
Drew Franklin
How do you say Massachusetts?
Tyler Thompson
They got those T's in there.
Drew Franklin
They're optional. It's a couple of them. Massachusetts.
Ryan Lemon
Maybe in Middlesborough, it's Massachusetts. Everybody else is Massachusetts.
Shannon The Dude
Mike Tyson says it.
Drew Franklin
Well, that's how I say it. Massachusetts. But go ahead.
Mario Maitland
I thought Myron was worried about the dump button there, but. Last question. Do we have a date for the pardon my takeover this year?
Drew Franklin
Well, as I said yesterday, I'm gonna actually to go with my mom at some point. I'm gonna go to Chicago and do it with them on a day we just. But we have not picked out the day yet. I'm. We're gonna do it from their studios up there.
Mario Maitland
Awesome. So I miss that. Thanks, guys.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. And they're. They've got a TV show now. Did you see that?
Tyler Thompson
Big time.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. They've been on this show for, I guess they started whatever year the Harambee thing was. That was like 2013. And now they're going to have, along with a bunch of other people, their own television show on FS1. So they love it.
Ryan Lemon
They love doing KSR once.
Drew Franklin
They do.
Mario Maitland
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
It's a live show and they can talk to callers live. On the other level, if they could.
Shannon The Dude
Get on FS1, we could get on FS2 then.
Drew Franklin
Right now that's la familia. There's other stuff.
Ryan Lemon
All right.
Drew Franklin
Now tell me about.
Ryan Lemon
Listen, this reads. Gonna knock your socks off.
Drew Franklin
No, it's not.
Ryan Lemon
Love the house, but not the kitchen. Stockton's renovation loans were made for that. Buy it, fix it, love it. All in one loan. And, you know, home prices have changed.
Drew Franklin
What's that say? Buy, fix it, love it.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, buy it, fix it, love it.
Drew Franklin
Okay, you just. Just bring it down.
Ryan Lemon
Home prices have changed, but so have your options. Stockton Mortgage has access to programs like down payment assistance, low down payment loans, and more ways to help you buy with confidence. Visit stockton.com Stockton Mortgage, NMLS 8259 equal housing lender and MLS consumeraccess.org Back to you, Matthew.
Shannon The Dude
Did AI write that?
Ryan Lemon
I don't know. I got it from the sales rep, so I'm assuming maybe it was.
Drew Franklin
Who's up next?
Ryan Lemon
Dalton is up next.
Drew Franklin
Dalton. Go ahead, Dalton.
Mario Maitland
All right, y' all got me fired up a little bit. Churchill down thing. I live not far from there, and ever since I started working right down there, working with people that live in the neighborhood, I've realized how much this is not the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This is the Commonwealth of Churchill Down. Whether it's from the historical racing machines, quote unquote, to the running the fences down the middle of the road. So you completely block off the neighborhood. You take over for a weekend. Those people can't sell their parking spots in their yards. They can't sell food like they used to back in the day. And that divine up every little bit of land there. And now moving the time out of the only consideration for them that this city would. The city and the state would let Churchill Downs do anything they want. Churchill Downs could call Mayor Greenberg tonight and say, hey, next Thursday, we're thinking about setting all the streets on fire down here. Y' all plan on cleaning up when you're done? No, we still plan on bringing those millionaires in. Yep. All right, set them on fire. We'll put it on the news.
Drew Franklin
I mean, I. I don't totally disagree with you. I mean, Churchill is an arrogant entity. I don't think there's any doubt about that. But the derby is important to the state. It's especially important to the city of Louisville. So I get what you're saying, though. I mean, I.
Mario Maitland
Listen that I don't blame them for acting that way. If I was in that position, it would be very hard to not throw your weight around. And I don't really blame the state for kowtowing to him either. It's just. That's how it is.
Drew Franklin
It is. And I agree with you and the experience and I appreciate the call as a Kentucky and the experience of going to the Derby is worse now than it was 15 years ago. Like, he's talking about, you know, we used to walk the neighborhoods around it and it was the most fun thing in the world. And that experience has gotten worse over the years. Like, it's not as cool, it's not as much of a party as it used to be. I, I mean, that's right. At the same time, for one weekend, Kentucky is the center of the world, the sporting world, and that we're not going to get that any other way. So it's. I, I kind of, it's odd. I kind of see both sides.
Tyler Thompson
You know, he can't blame Churchill. That's what those people like. But I mean, their, their job is to make money. Yeah, I mean, you, you hear from locals that have been priced out of the infield forever. You know, you could throw on a pair of shorts and a tank top and whatever it costs, go sit in the infield in your lawn chair. Now, I think even locals, it's gotten to where a lot of them can't afford to go.
Drew Franklin
You just have to be careful. It's kind of like Ryan with the UK football when we talked many years ago about how they changed everything for the people, the regular fans that were tailgating, etc, you can do that as long as things keep cooking. But then one day, if things get bad, you may be going back to those people and saying, come back. And they're less likely to come back. Right. So UK football, I think, is experience experiencing that right now. Team's not as good, tickets aren't as exciting, and now a lot of these people are not coming back. And the school's like, what's happening? Why is this happening? Well, you kind of ran them off 10 years ago, and that was easy to do when things were going well. But when they don't go well, then what do you do?
Ryan Lemon
It's hard to win the fan base back when something like that happens, man, you know, it's hard to get them to come back and buy back in. You mentioned the football. It's a great example. But like that color talked about in Louisville. You know, I remember when Saturday used to be Louisville's day at the. I mean, Friday was Doolittle's day at the track. Then it was Therby. Then it's when that's all, it's.
Drew Franklin
They go Oaks Friday. Furby, what do they call Wednesday? Wednesday, like Wednesday and Now they have 5o Tuesday.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. They keep taking it away from the locals that have made it.
Drew Franklin
They're just gonna start telling the locals, come in, April. All right, you don't. You don't. You don't. You don't get to be part of it until then. Who's next? Seth is up next. Seth, go ahead, Seth.
Mario Maitland
Hey, hey. Are you there?
Drew Franklin
Still there.
Ryan Lemon
Haven't left.
Mario Maitland
Are you there?
Shannon The Dude
We're gone. No, we're no longer here.
Mario Maitland
Are you there?
Drew Franklin
Okay, bye. Thank you. Who's next? Matt is up next. Matt, Go ahead, Matt.
Mario Maitland
What's up, guys?
Drew Franklin
What's going on?
Mario Maitland
What's up, guys? Hey, you all right? I just want to say a couple of things. I'm sitting out in my garden and. That was hilarious. I'm sitting out in my garden, just finished meditating. Okay. And I just want to give big, big applause to your mom, man. She sounds like a wonderful, amazing woman. And that's probably why you're so successful.
Drew Franklin
Well, that's very nice of you. To whatever extent I have any success, it certainly wouldn't be without her. So you're. You're exactly right about that.
Mario Maitland
Yeah, it. Well, I. I kind of like to give a shout out to my mom. My dad was a Baptist pastor for 62 years, and my mom. He passed away several years ago, but my mom still shares his journey. He has this saying. Everybody she meets, she. I don't know if I'm supposed to talk about religion on this show, but everybody see me ask. My dad had the saying saying, if are you a winner or loser in life? And, you know, depending on what they would say, he would, you know, to be a winner, you have to have the Lord in your life. And my mom still does that, and she's 92 years old.
Drew Franklin
That's very nice. 92 years old. You should be very. Embrace those moments. Let me ask you a question. Are you still. You still doing the meditating?
Ryan Lemon
You.
Drew Franklin
You only tend to call Fridays towards the end of the show. Is that like your. Is that your post meditation time?
Mario Maitland
It is. And I have. I have upgraded my meditation.
Drew Franklin
Okay. What does that.
Mario Maitland
I've actually learned some new things since I got a little bit of notoriety on the show. People at work have been talking to me and teaching me newer things. Shout out Ben Stidham. But.
Drew Franklin
Shout out Ben Stidham.
Tyler Thompson
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Great teacher. Great teacher. Ben Stidham knows how to meditate. Well, listen, I hope you and Ben Stidham and everybody in Breathitt county gets all your Zen on. And thank you very Much for calling.
Mario Maitland
It's Hyman. It's Hyman.
Drew Franklin
Oh, I, I was like what? Hyman. Sorry.
Mario Maitland
God bless.
Drew Franklin
Make sure you enunciate that word. We will take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Shannon The Dude
I'll probably watch it next Sunday.
Drew Franklin
Sorry.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I'll watch it this weekend at some point. I was a big fan of the first one.
Drew Franklin
I love the first one.
Shannon The Dude
I don't know anybody that didn't like the first one.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, mjf by the way, is the son of Happy Gilmore of Adam Sandler. Yeah, I just thought you'd appreciate it. Doesn't sound like you appreciate that.
Tyler Thompson
I'm a little worried, you know, sequels and redoing movies. But I am excited. Gonna do Like a family movie night. My sister's in. My parents are both recovering, so gonna. Gonna get the family together and have a viewing this weekend.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I. I won't go into the details, but Drew's been going through a lot in the last couple weeks with his family, so everybody say a prayer for his parents. I don't know how much you've talked about.
Tyler Thompson
Yeah, I mentioned it. And they're doing well. They're recovering from surgeries, though. But I think for everyone that prayed and reached out already.
Drew Franklin
So thank you so. That. That's very nice. All right. Lexington SC in Louisville. Louisville City. Are we going to win, Mr. Jersey?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, Louisville doesn't win in this town. Come on, man. Yeah, they're gonna be a great crowd. It'll be exciting.
Drew Franklin
Sold out.
Ryan Lemon
I mean, that's awesome to have that great facility out there. Sold out.
Drew Franklin
What time everybody tuning?
Tyler Thompson
Seven.
Drew Franklin
Seven o'? Clock.
Tyler Thompson
Yep. I just got a text this morning, though, with my details for the march to the match. I'm gonna go early and tell you.
Drew Franklin
They're marching.
Tyler Thompson
We're marching into the stadium. I don't know where we start. This is all new. I'm still getting these messages during the show, but I'm gonna get out there. There's a concert. I'm gonna make a little early evening of it before the.
Shannon The Dude
Can you bet this on DraftKings?
Drew Franklin
I bet you can. Okay, you just have to look for it, but I bet. I bet you can. Yeah. This is. I mean, again, if you don't follow that league, Louisville, I think, has won, I want to say, two out of the last three years are one of the best teams in the league. Lexington, with their first chance or first crack at them here in Lexington, I think they played in Louisville earlier this year.
Ryan Lemon
Now, the Louisville guys wearing red jerseys.
Drew Franklin
I don't know, but there's. This is. Their colors are normally green.
Ryan Lemon
Right.
Drew Franklin
And they're wearing blue for this.
Ryan Lemon
Just for this game. Yeah. That's why I went up. The Louisville team.
Drew Franklin
Did you see the story about the Memphis. Memphis football player, Shannon?
Shannon The Dude
Oh, yeah, Yeah. I love this story.
Drew Franklin
This is a great story. So I guess the Memphis football player, I guess he got mad at his. At his teammates. He was upset at him, I guess, for. I don't know, for just the way they played. So they were, you know, I think he was transferring. So their defensive back sent the quarterback for Texas, San Antonio, these texts. Here you go. Here's the playbook. Here Are this. All the signals. Signals. Far left are the coverages. If they run they. They run quarters so none of the safeties can cover no reroutes on the slough on the slot. The field safety is the weakest link when they run out of eligibility. Playing with number zero. Here are all the play calls. He sent them that before the game. They used it. They beat Memphis by one score. Memphis missed the playoff by one game. Basically, this dude probably cost Memphis the chance at winning the conference championship and going to the playoffs.
Shannon The Dude
Now, that player then transferred to Purdue, I think, right?
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Shannon The Dude
So now if you're Purdue, it just came out yesterday. Yeah, you gotta. You got that guy on your team now. Can you trust him?
Drew Franklin
That's a good question. If you were Purdue, would you want that guy to play?
Tyler Thompson
I don't know anything that's happened on this, but I did go to the Purdue website just to see it, read about the guy, and he wasn't on their roster, so I don't know. If something happened in the last 20. That was this morning. How bad would you be if you.
Drew Franklin
Were a Memphis fan at this store.
Ryan Lemon
I'd be furious at this story.
Shannon The Dude
Well, imagine it's Kentucky. Put Kentucky in that situation. Take Memphis out of it and say it's Kentucky.
Ryan Lemon
And they lost by one score.
Drew Franklin
One went away from going, and it was 44, 38. So they gave up 44 points. So clearly, you know, it had an impact.
Shannon The Dude
Oh, absolutely.
Mario Maitland
Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
If they're scoring that many points against you and you're, you know, Texas, San Antonio.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Well, thanks. They were good, but that was a big game for them.
Tyler Thompson
My two favorite things are the. The quarterback that's getting the info. Wasn't he just sending, like, crying emojis back to every response? He was, like, doing lol. Just didn't know really what's with it. But then also that poor safety getting called out. I think you got to fight the guy. I mean, most of it was pretty vague, but he's like, also number zero. The safety really stinks.
Drew Franklin
He's terrible. Go right at him now. I mean, I wonder what happened with the Texas San Antonio quarterback. Did he go tell his coaches? Did they use it as part of the game plan? I mean, that hasn't been said yet. You have to assume they did. But I. If you were a coach and your player came with that, do you use it?
Ryan Lemon
I think you take it and then you kind of tiptoe into it. But then during the course of the game, if you realize this stuff's right, man, I think you go all in. I think you lean into it.
Drew Franklin
Hang on just a Second, you only cheat if you need to, I think.
Ryan Lemon
Because, you know, if this guy was feeding you some bad info, he could have been, you know, you don't think.
Drew Franklin
The coach has a responsibility maybe to say to the other coach, hey, this happened.
Ryan Lemon
Come on, it's college football.
Drew Franklin
No, not at all. I'm sorry, I thought you were like Mr. Sportsmanship.
Ryan Lemon
In baseball, they steal signs. Everybody's stealing signs.
Drew Franklin
But you're always against. Against them stealing signs.
Ryan Lemon
I am, but they do it. I mean, they're gonna do it. So I bet those coaches knew that, what the guy said, but waited till the game started to see if it was accurate. Once they found it was accurate, they went all in with it.
Drew Franklin
Interesting.
Shannon The Dude
And then if you're the one.
Drew Franklin
How did he get out?
Shannon The Dude
That's the thing. If you're the team that got it, why would you want to leak that?
Drew Franklin
And I'm fascinated as to how it got out. What are the chain of events that. Because it is the actual text message that is out.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Tyler Thompson
I think it was a Memphis site that reported it, which they would have the incentive, but I don't know how that. But how would the website actually have.
Drew Franklin
Known that they sent it? That's fascinating to me as to how that happened.
Shannon The Dude
Like, somebody would have had to have almost hacked into that account to get it because.
Mario Maitland
What.
Shannon The Dude
Why would you share it?
Ryan Lemon
That's why you have to change your signs. Uk.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Remember we had that game where we didn't change our signs and that didn't.
Ryan Lemon
Didn't work out too well.
Drew Franklin
Work out too well. Hey, Nicholasville. Thank you all very much for coming out tonight. Give yourselves a big round of applause.
Ryan Lemon
Yes, sir.
Drew Franklin
We appreciate it. Thank you. To Kentucky customs and upfitting. Remember, you have until the end of August. Use my code, KSR and you get 10 off the spray and bed liners, under coating and rust prevention. Let's go, Lexington sc. Let's get the win. And we are now, by the way, just 33 days from the first kickoff of Kentucky versus Toledo.
Tyler Thompson
I'm starting to feel it. I'm not Ryan drinking the Kool Aid yet, but I am excited just to start it, it, get it going and.
Drew Franklin
I'm going to steal one of these footballs. Is that all right?
Tyler Thompson
I haven't put this one down. I've had it.
Drew Franklin
Thank you guys very much. We appreciate it. This has been Katrina.
