Okay. I mean, I understand that. One person writes, Matt, did you see that Donald Trump is going after your law school Duke? I did see that. They're going after the Duke Law Journal, which I was on. Hope they don't arrest me.

You worry. I was on the Duke Law Journal.

What's he going after him for?

[Drew Franklin]

I don't know. I think it's something about anytime they have something, it's usually about dei. But when I was on there, the Law Journal is the stupidest thing. Like I Law Journal is so dumb. You pick, like you, if you're in your top 20 or whatever in the class, you get picked and then your job is law professors from around the country write these legal notes or, you know, legal articles and then the students, we get to decide which one's published. How stupid is that?

[Billy Rutledge]

Save some fun for the rest of us.

[Drew Franklin]

Oh, it's awful. I hate it. I hated it. But like, you felt like you were compelled if you got picked, you were compelled. Like you, like, oh, it's an Honor. You got to do it. You had to write your own. I wrote about genetics in criminal law, basically. Do you have a gene that causes you to be violent? I was ahead of the curve on that.

[Billy Rutledge]

Yeah.

[Drew Franklin]

Now that's like, what'd you learn? I argue that there are genes that make you violent, but you shouldn't include them in your sentencing because if you started doing that, we would never be able to stop. If you. It's out there on the Internet.

[Matt Jones]

They got published.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah. It's under Matt Jones, Duke Law. I mean, I hesitate to go back and read. I wrote it. 20. Did you bold the most important syncope? I did. Another word, but it's out there. It's called free will and criminal law or something like that. But the thing I always thought was stupid is all these legal professors from around the country would write you and have spent all this work on something, and we were the most unqualified people in the world to pick it. And you want to talk about people who took themselves seriously. The people on the laws aren't. You would have thought we were curing cancer, Shannon, the way these meetings went.

[Shannon The Dude]

Yeah.

[Drew Franklin]

Everybody, Gosh, they were so serious. I hated it. It was my least favorite thing that I did when I was in school. I hate to talk about this, but we have to. He's our friend. But it's also the news. Romel Bradley was arrested. Saw that two nights ago in Lexington. It looks like it was. He got charged with four or five different small things, including trespass. Riding a moped without a license.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah.

[Drew Franklin]

Which I didn't realize, Shannon. That was a crime. A license. Yeah. I hated to see it. It's. It was like 2:45 in the morning, so I, you know, I'm there. I'm sure there is some story to it that is probably more complicated than ended up on that police report. I talked to Rama. You know, I text him yesterday. I was like, listen, man, we're going to have to report on this because it's our job, but, you know, I love you. And he said yes. And he. He said some other things I won't say, but I'm, uh. I was sad to see it, you know, I mean, you know, we love along with Woo. Mel's probably my favorite. I mean, he's a friend. Right. So I hated to see it.

[Billy Rutledge]

Me too. Love for Mel. Saw him not too long ago, Derby day, actually catching up with him. Disappointed to see the news. Don't know specifics. Whatever trouble he was getting into. I hope he's learned his lesson. And gets right back on the right track. Because Ramel's a good guy, doesn't need to be caught up in whatever happened there.

[Drew Franklin]

He did say he was like, I'd like to come on your show and talk about it. And I said, talk to your lawyer first.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah.

[Drew Franklin]

Just don't. Just, you know, I was like, you need to just don't immediately come on here. I don't know that that's the.

[Matt Jones]

So it was sad. But, you know, everybody makes mistakes. Hopefully he learns from his mistakes.

[Drew Franklin]

And everybody makes mistakes. Oh, yes, they do. Do you know the next line?

Not exactly. Your sister and your brother and your dad and mother too.

So, so sorry to hear that. And hopefully that gets taken out of. I also want to recommend something this afternoon. The podcast will come out that I did yesterday with Josh Hopkins. So people know who Josh Hopkins is. Most of you. Actor, Kentucky fan from Lexington. His dad was a congressman. But I don't think a lot of people know that he was one of the actors on the movie set where Alec Baldwin accidentally killed the woman. He was one of the stars of that movie. He has never talked about that experience really publicly ever before. He did with me yesterday for about 30 minutes. And I'm not just saying this. I think it's one of the most powerful, interesting things we've ever done. It's going to be released tomorrow or today. It'll be on podcast and then we'll also be on YouTube. You can watch it. I highly recommend it. He gets emotional during it. He talks about what that day was like. He was on set when it happened.

[Matt Jones]

Wow.

[Drew Franklin]

And you know, Drew and I have been very good friends with him for a long time. I've never seen Josh like. Like he was yesterday. And you know, Mario and Billy are sitting in here. They don't even know who he is. And like, they're getting emotional.

Yeah.

Watching it. So that comes out today. Highly recommended. And then we talk about UK sports and he gets to show you what a die hard UK basketball fan is. But I appreciate him coming on and I think people will really enjoy it.

I was already planning to listen to it because I like Josh a lot. I want to hear what you all talked about. But now that I know he went into detail about that, I'm very interested.

[Drew Franklin]

He also talks about, like, what it's like to be, you know, an actor when you first get started. And, and so anyway, I, it's, it's. We went long. We ended up Going like an hour and a half. But I do think people will like it. Brady, Go ahead. Brady.

Hello. I have first time caller who are. I start middle school this Friday. Do you have any advice?

[Drew Franklin]

So you're gonna be in sixth grade, is that right? Brady? Brady. All right, sixth grade. What advice would you have?

[Billy Rutledge]

The worst time I'm going to do kindness advice. Brady, you seem like an outgoing person. Sixth grade can be hard. Be nice to people. And if someone's off by themselves, go say hi.

[Drew Franklin]

Oh, I like that you say go.

[Billy Rutledge]

You know, you're going from elementary to middle. Brady seems like a good person. Be very friendly to everyone. Especially this. If someone's in your class, doesn't look.

[Drew Franklin]

Like usually you're probably gonna be going to school with some new people because other elementary schools will probably feed into a middle school. So. Yeah, I would say kids can be.

[Billy Rutledge]

Really mean at that age. You can be the nicer.

[Drew Franklin]

Be nice. This is also probably the time you're gonna start being interested in girls, right? Don't get taught.

[Shannon The Dude]

Pick up.

[Drew Franklin]

Don't get tied down too early. That's right.

[Shannon The Dude]

No, no, you see, I've given the opposite. I think you should pick out the prettiest girl you can find in class. And then, you know, it's the first day when you got. It's when you got to move in the very first day.

[Drew Franklin]

You don't wait till later. You're saying, get the girlfriend moment.

[Billy Rutledge]

Exactly.

[Shannon The Dude]

That way, you know, for the rest of the school year.

[Drew Franklin]

Well, I. I think I was living proof. You could go through middle school and never have a girlfriend and things can end up okay. Because I wasn't the most.

[Shannon The Dude]

That's your thing.

[Drew Franklin]

I wasn't the most handsome.

[Matt Jones]

Come on now. Your glasses.

Yeah, I mean, there was a lot of acne and glasses and braces and. But it's good for character.

[Billy Rutledge]

It is. My first heartbreak was my sixth grade girlfriend.

[Drew Franklin]

Really?

[Billy Rutledge]

For Valentine's Day, she got me a Glenn Robinson Bucks jersey and some nice.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah.

[Billy Rutledge]

And I got her like a $10 gift card to Claire's or something. And then she dumped me shortly after. So maybe that was the reason.

[Drew Franklin]

But she knew.

[Billy Rutledge]

First heartbreak was in middle school you.

[Drew Franklin]

Couldn'T take care of.

[Billy Rutledge]

That's right.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah. I think being an outcast in middle school builds character. You have to learn that you can't. When you're. When you're not attractive, you have to learn you can't just get by with looks in your life. You have to have a personality to be smart.

[Billy Rutledge]

Have you seen the Ears that were on the side of my head in sixth grade I had to have somewhere. Now yeah, the head has caught up with them a little bit. But in sixth grade it was pretty.

[Drew Franklin]

You and I both had big ears. I mean nobody has bigger ears than Dave Baker. But you and I were right there with him.

[Billy Rutledge]

I always say I looked like a car with the doors open coming at you.

[Drew Franklin]

Let's go to Terry in Shepherdsville. Go ahead, Terry.

Yeah. Gene Garber was the reliever for the Brace. Now what, what is he known for and why do I hate him?

[Drew Franklin]

I don't know. Why do you? I can't understand why you hate him.

He struck out Pete to end the 44 game hitting streak.

[Drew Franklin]

Actually I do. Actually now that you say that, I remember that, but I would have forgotten that. Yes.

I mean it's a 32 count and he throws him a fall on the way. Just throw right down the middle so he can hit it. But anyway, because they were up 16 to 4, they killed the rest. I just bet Kentucky on the futures line of minus four and a half wins and I don't like the odds I'm getting. And you only get 185 for betting 100. But you look at the schedule. Let's, let's, let's take the three easy teams, Tennessee Tech, Eastern Michigan. Okay, look at the rest of. You got to really look at the rest of the schedule. All you got to do, South Carolina and Vandy, you're not going to lose both of them. Again, that's not going to happen. The Vandy games away, but that's like a home game. So you just really got to beat either Ole Miss, Auburn, Auburn or Florida at home.

[Drew Franklin]

And you're exactly right. That's, that's the scenario right there, Terry, and I appreciate the call. You've got to find, I would even say you just, if you want to get to five wins, you beat Vandy and then you got to get one of those South Carolina, South Carolina, Ole Miss OR Excuse me, S.C. road, Auburn ON the road, Ole Miss, Florida, and I'd even throw Tennessee in there. Cause I don't think they are as good as they've been the last couple years. Again, I'm not saying we're going to beat any of these teams, but I'm saying if you're trying to get a path, Drew, that's how you get there.

[Billy Rutledge]

Right? Florida lost Lagway yesterday. Their quarterback, they might not be that good depending on what's going on there. But I have a confession. I bet over Four and a half wins.

[Drew Franklin]

I did it.

[Billy Rutledge]

I was under. If you'd asked me in April, I would have said, get out of my face. There's no way I would bet that I did it. I'm not in Ryan's canoe. I don't even know if they'll make a bowl game. But I think five is more likely than four. So I did it.

[Drew Franklin]

I want to get to five. I'd love to get to six. I'm still on four.

[Shannon The Dude]

Come on. I'm already there. I'm waiting on you.

[Drew Franklin]

I'm selling four. Cause I don't know what the fifth is. I think we have to win to get to five. I think the most likely fifth win is at Auburn. And I just don't know that I can pick.

[Shannon The Dude]

Just gotta shock somebody. One game, they can shock somebody. They've been.

[Drew Franklin]

You could just say, okay, can we shock Ole Miss? 10. Ole Miss, Tennessee, Florida and Texas at home. Can we shock one of them? That's what you're asking?

[Shannon The Dude]

Yeah.

[Billy Rutledge]

You beat Ole Miss last year in Oxford. They got worse and you got better.

[Shannon The Dude]

Do they have the best offensive line they've ever had? No. Do we?

[Drew Franklin]

Yes.

[Shannon The Dude]

Yesterday. There you go.

[Drew Franklin]

Come on. Teams always have the best offensive line we've ever had.

[Matt Jones]

Stuff. Teams always have one road game where they play great. Last year was it at Ole Miss. This year be at Auburn.

[Drew Franklin]

But. But what if it's like at Georgia and we play great, but we just can't win?

[Matt Jones]

That's okay. They're going to play just as good at Auburn. That's the game.

[Drew Franklin]

So our road games are at Vandy, at Auburn, at Georgia, at South Carolina. Schedule is. If we were really good. This is a schedule you want to. Because you've got the good teams at home where you could maybe win some. And you've got the not so good teams on the road, except Georgia. So this is a schedule that if you had a loaded team, you'd go, wait a minute.

[Matt Jones]

We can do something.

[Drew Franklin]

We can do something. Also Louisville. I'm not giving up on Louisville.

[Billy Rutledge]

Oh, we're beating Louisville.

[Drew Franklin]

That's my fifth win in my bet. I think South Carolina's gonna be good. I'm a little worried about that one.

He could be, like a top pick.

Hey, Matt. I know yesterday you guys were talking about traffic and you sort of admonished yourself for bringing it up, and I think you need to embrace it again. That's what Makes the show great, all the things you talk about. But second of all, I got to push back on you guys. The traffic in Lexington is really not that bad. I was just up in Boston for a wedding. We had drove to Cape Cod. It took us 2 hours and 52 minutes to go 65 miles.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah, but here's why I don't. You're right, traffic is worse in New York and Bost. But a, you have the option of public transportation, which we really don't. I mean, we have buses, but we don't have rail like they do in.

In.

[Drew Franklin]

In those places. And two, our population is like, you know, I mean, New York's got 8 million people. We have 400,000. Right. Like, it's so that when you consider the total population, I think our traffic is worse. And in New York, you don't even need to have a car if you don't want to. In Boston, it's a little harder, but, like, you can get around on their system. So that's what frustrates me about it. We have to have cars here. This city is not even compatible for walking. It's hard to walk in this city. Like, Louisville's much better about that. So that's why it frustrates me so much.

Yeah, exactly. And also, you guys got to stop. You're talking to me. And I was at 4 and 8, and now that's climbing the 6. You gotta stop.

Like in the winter, do you wear a coat in your house? No, no, no. You wear in the way that you're most comfortable.

So that's why you're not going on your five mile walks.

Now, if you go on a five mile walk. Yeah. You'll end up sweating a lot. But I don't think it's. I mean, I'm walking from the car inside and the inside to the car, like, wouldn't. Why not be more comfortable in the room you're gonna be in?

And it's just your. It's kind of your identity. Your hoodie guy. You have. I couldn't even begin to guess how many hoodies you have, but a lot.

Wow, what a baby. I mean, this is what golf needs. You need hecklers. And if it's after he putts, then what does he care? The ball is already. I mean, he's already made us putt, so they should see.

So I know a lot of people are pretty negative about this upcoming football season. I'm kind of younger, so I, I started watching like the Benny Snell years. So I kind of only know our football season kind of going well and everything like that. I'm thinking about going to the Eastern Michigan game if you won't have a.

Hard time getting tickets.

Well, I mean, if we put up a good fight against Ole Miss, do you think a lot of people will go to that? Do you think it's worth a five hour drive for me or not?

Well, I mean, it depends. On what? Like when you do, do you not have the ability to go to one of the other games?

Well, I mean, I'm trying to pay off college, so I. Yeah, I understand. Kind of go to a cheaper game.

[Drew Franklin]

That'll be a cheaper game.

And you get the whole day experience.

The whole day. Cause it's seven o'. Clock. I mean, look, the Toledo game is going to be. The crowd will be into it because it's the first game, the Ole Miss game. Assuming we beat Toledo, the crowd will be into it because it's Ole Miss. Eastern Michigan's more of a. We'll see. I do like that it's at 7 o', clock, so people have all day. It's a good weather day, mid September, so. Yeah. I think it'll be okay. The only way it would be a dud is if we get destroyed by Old Miss. But I would say to you, yes, it's worth it. I would look at prices. I don't think you need to jump on it. Cause I think you could get a ticket honestly anytime and you probably would be okay. But I would plan to go. I think it'll. I think it'd be fun. This, the fact that it's at 7 o' clock to me is why you would go.

And if you don't have a ticket to it by the Ole Miss game, if Kentucky's like winning by 14 in the second half by quickly because if they do beat Ole Miss, I think it'll go up a little too. But between now and the Ole Miss game, I don't think it'll change much if, if it.

It'll all depend on Ole Miss. But I think it's worth the gamble to plan to come because you're right. Even if the Ole Miss game is competitive, people will want to come see it. And there's a buy right after Eastern Michigan. So you won't get him for another week.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah. You know, we as a fan base, they get. They go two and oh. Like you said, or play Ole Miss close. That Eastern Michigan game will still have a really good crowd.

[Drew Franklin]

I feel like it's going to be. That one's going to be tough for me because I'm going to be. That game's going to be going on and I think I'm going to be on a flight.

Yeah. And I don't think. I don't think South African television. Shannon will get the Kentucky Eastern Michigan game. I don't think it's going to be on one of the major stations, I guess on espnu.

So the guy who walked down the street in New York and shot four people and a police officer, by the way, where that is is like, I don't know if people realize, like, that's where a lot of people are. That's on like, 51st and Park. It's right next to a hotel that I stay at a lot when I go there. But it's like, you know, right next St. Patrick's Cathedral, which, where people know where it is. Rockefeller center is right there. So there's a lot of people in that area. And at first it looked random. And then it comes out today that he was a former football player with CTE going after the NFL because the NFL headquarters are in that office.

[Matt Jones]

Oh, wow.

[Drew Franklin]

And so he went in the building, he tried to go to the NFL office, and he got on the wrong elevator. And then when he got on the wrong elevator, because he had shot the officer in the lobby, he could hear people, like. And so he shot himself just in the stairway or whatever. But he was trying to go into the NFL offices and ended up just getting on the wrong elevator and going to a different floor.

[Matt Jones]

Could have been a lot worse.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah. I mean, there were videos and pictures, I don't know if you saw this, of people in some of the office buildings there who had barricaded, like, they had taken all the furniture in the building and tried to barricade the doors.

[Billy Rutledge]

A huge pile, huge couches on couches.

[Drew Franklin]

Upon couch upon couches. And they were in there for like an hour, hour and a half because they, they, they, they, they couldn't know for sure. They did. For whatever reason, they couldn't find where he was. And so, I mean, that had to be, like, scary, terrifying, you know, I mean, that's a, I mean, it's a huge building. Thousands of people working there.

[Matt Jones]

Wow.

[Drew Franklin]

So think about how hard it would be as police officers to clear a building.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah.

[Drew Franklin]

That has thousands of people in, like, a street with all the people with thousands of people. Like, that's got to be just the logistics of trying to do that in the middle of a day in New York City has got to be crazy.

[Matt Jones]

And never know if they get the shooters even behind.

[Drew Franklin]

You don't know if he's by himself or he's got other people. So you literally would have to clear like every single office in every single hallway. I mean, that, Shannon, that would just be a huge undertake.

[Shannon The Dude]

Massive. Yeah. I mean, those police officers have to go through so much on a daily basis and then something like this happens.

[Drew Franklin]

And then the story was shot. It's so sad. He was an off duty police officer with two kids and an eight month old on the way. But, you know, I mean, the CTE thing, like, I don't. It feels like people hadn't talked about that as much, but this will unfortunately bring it probably back to the forefront. And you do still, like, you know, I don't know, man. We've talked about this a lot. It feels like football is safer now than it was 20 years ago, 25 years ago. But you still have a lot of people playing in a different era dealing with it.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, 25 years ago. Those people that played before 25 years ago, now they're suffering from the effects of it.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

And we see it all the time.

[Drew Franklin]

See it all the time. Yeah, yeah.

[Billy Rutledge]

I mean, they've recently put rules in place, kickoffs, helmet technology. So many things they're doing now. But that doesn't help people that are just now getting to that stage where it's getting bad, that before they took.

[Drew Franklin]

Care of it, I saw a scientist on tv, like a brain person, say that the people who will have the biggest effect of the CTE are the people who played in the late 70s through about 1990.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah.

[Drew Franklin]

Because that was when the rules were the wildest, the technology was the worst, and the mentality of play through it, that basically the. And that was when people started to get huge. Like if you go watch in the 60s and 70s, they're not as big, but they started getting huge in the late 70s and then steroids in the 80s and that was late 70s through like 90 to 92. This person was saying, those are the people who have the greatest effects of cte. Hit them.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah.

[Drew Franklin]

Bigger, faster, stronger, but with no understanding yet of what was happening.

[Matt Jones]

And the rules were like, you could hit helmet on helmet. I mean, it was just, you could.

[Drew Franklin]

Hit defensive receivers, you could go, you could lower your head. I mean, all the things that we're now used to, you could do all that. And people had gotten big because they weren't as big in the 60s and 70s.

[Billy Rutledge]

Now that we know what we know, when you go back, Even in the 90s and early 2000s and watch some of the highlights we'd celebrate of a big helmet, helmet hit or catching a guy not looking where you just lay him out. I mean, it looks kind of awful, I think. Like that Dickey Lyons Block we loved on. If you go back and watch that now, knowing we know you're like, oh, my God, is that dude gonna be. Remember?

[Drew Franklin]

I mean, what was it on ESPN they would do that? You got jacked up or whatever. Like, now people wouldn't say that. Like, they certainly wouldn't be a segment about it on there.

[Billy Rutledge]

The helmet. The helmet just. We look at it.

[Drew Franklin]

So we did it. Really. It's amazing how much. It's like smoking. How much our view on it has changed over the years.

[Billy Rutledge]

And I think about the. The perfect hit on Antonio Brown, who's clearly suffered from something. I mean, that was just a violent, vicious hit on his brain.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah, guys with the NIL Collectives, you know, a major factor in, you know, money. I don't understand really, the fuss about revenue sharing percentage. Wouldn't it just be made up with the nil?

[Drew Franklin]

Well, it depends on. Depends on what the rules are. It depends on what the rules are. I mean, right now, if the rules are that the deals have to be legitimate, then it will make a big difference. If they say, well, you can just make up the difference by just giving money, then you're right, it won't make a difference. But if the. If the settlement is enforced and all NIL deals have to be like market value, then what you decide to invest in, JC will become very important because you can't just write a check for $1 million to guys if they enforce that settlement.

[Caller]

So you'd have to determine like a market value for a commercial for a coal mine.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah, you would. And now if you're asking me, how do you do that, I have no idea. Like, I really don't know how they come up with it, but you're right, that's what they have to do. And this accounting firm they've hired, in theory, that's what they're doing. I'm with you. I don't know how you come up with it, but there have already been apparently, like a hundred deals that have been struck down by this group. So clearly they are striking some things down.

So, I don't know, clarify things a little bit. We have to wait for the. That. That law to change it as well.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah, I mean, we just have to. I appreciate the call. And then also, you know, now it depends on what the final law ends up being.
