26 days almost here. I had a good time watching this weekend with the excitement and to say it's less than four weeks away. Talking season's almost over.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah. Less than three weeks away from the first games. There are games that weekend. 23rd.

[Eli]

Yeah. Drew said there's a good crowd there for the open practice. So maybe people are starting to get excited about.

[Drew Franklin]

Yes, I went to fan day because. Because it was a day and I am a fan. Perfect weather. I gotta say, absolutely perfect. After it had been 110 in Lexington for a week and I was pretty surprised by the turnout.

[Matt Jones]

Good.

[Drew Franklin]

I really think they got probably better than they expected, to be honest. They had a good crowd of fans there to watch the team do their. Their usual open practice.

[Matt Jones]

That's good to hear because I kind of thought that would not be the case. So I'm glad that. I'm glad it is. Maybe there' some excitement. So two things I want to lead off with. One is, is all the football stuff from Friday, but we have to start with, with what happened in Bristol. So I was, I was going to.

[Eli]

Go, how happy are you?

[Matt Jones]

I was going to go until Thursday night. I started to think, I'm not going to go. But even Friday I was like, you know, if I get a hankering. And then I decided not to. I hate the best decision because it looks like what a debacle in Bristol. Now, a lot of it is not anybody's fault. It didn't rain all day. It started raining 40 minutes before the game, kept raining and then stopped once everybody got out of it. It literally rained for five hours. And it was the five hours that they wanted to play the baseball game. So to some extent, what are you going to do?

[Eli]

We can't. Can't change mother nature.

[Matt Jones]

But everything else seems like a disaster. Ran out of food, Ran out of.

[Eli]

Hot dogs and buns. They're serving hot dogs with no buns?

[Matt Jones]

Yeah. I mean, no. Just straight wiener. That was all you got?

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah. Nachos, no cheese. You just got the chips.

[Matt Jones]

They had nachos, no cheese.

[Drew Franklin]

Here's a big thing of tortilla chips.

[Matt Jones]

They ran out on half the. Half the facility. They ran out of soda. So you had two choices for drinks, Shannon, water or tequila.

[Shannon]

I'm going tequila on that one.

[Matt Jones]

Water or tequila. Then, you know, apparently long lines to get in. They only had four food trucks open outside of the place. So, like, they were apparently out the door. So it was just a cluster. Ryan McGee was on ESPN with me. He said the problem was Major League Baseball ran the logistics. They didn't let Bristol Motor Speedway. Who's used to it?

[Shannon]

That's just stupid.

[Matt Jones]

That's just stupid. I mean, you have an entity that knows how to do it and you don't let them run it. That's just stupid. Now a lot of stuff looked cool. The track there look cool? Yeah, right. I think they did an amazing job with the field. All those people in the crowd. It was going to be awesome. But then you just saw, okay, it just keeps lingering and lingering. And then they were like, clearly, we want to try to start it. And just a debacle play. Don't even get through one inning. Didn't finish the first inning, get through one ending. There are lakes in the middle of the infield. The Reds start their starting pitcher and end up burning him because he can't pitch. After one inning, he comes out and throw. And so then the Reds. And the thing was an important game for the Reds. They needed to win. End up losing the next day. I kept getting messages all night from listeners who were there. And all they kept saying to me, Shannon, was, you would hate this more than anyone on earth would hate this.

[Shannon]

[Matt Jones]

You know how much I hate traffic. There are apparently people still trying to drive out at 3 in the morning. Oh, this is what you get when you go to a place and you don't listen to people that are there, right?

[Eli]

Yeah. Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

That's what you need to do. I've learned that with ovw, when we would go to small towns, that first year that I was running ovw, I'd go, well, we need to do this. We knew that. And then sometimes people would say, well, you know, here in. In. In E town, this is how we do things. And I was like, well, what does E town know? But then by year two, I learned, let E town tell you what to do in E town. Right. They should have done the same thing. So I was so disappointed. I was disappointed because I wanted the, the world to get. I wanted it like for Ellie to get the attention. I mean it was our teams right. That was going to be. And it just ended up at the.

[Drew Franklin]

It really was. I was so excited. It's the first full baseball game I've watched in or non playoff game and I don't know how long I don't sit around and watch full baseball games. Watch it Sunday pregame started at 6:30. I was on my couch at 6 with the TV on. Yeah. Then Sunday at 1 I got up and watched it all.

[Matt Jones]

Gotcha.

Because I'm weird. I kind of wanted to be there Saturday night. You that's my kind of event. I like the chaos now I would have been camping, I would not have been in. I wouldn't have been driving anywhere for one but I would have been out there having a blast during the delay. But watching from home, just utter chaos. And John Smoltz and the crew, that had to have been awful. Just hours of live.

[Matt Jones]

They basically just had to to Ryan just like talk for four hours and clearly my question is, did baseball have a backup plan or were they just not? No. I mean I know there's only so much you can do. You can't just build a roof. But they should have probably called the game early in the night. Yeah, right. And then said all right, we're all going to come back tomorrow. Tomorrow, let's try this again. Or they could have said, well we'll, you know, throw the first pitch at midnight. You know, I knew it. Here's what I knew it was going to be bad. Shannon Terry Francona. I saw they should showed an interview at like 4:30 and he was like, they're like, you excited about this? And he goes, well you know, this is good for baseball. And so we're going to work through this. And that's when I thought, oh, he already knew this is. He kind of knew disaster is coming and you could see it. Yeah.

[Shannon]

I was going to say anybody could check a radar would know what's going to happen. And I don't understand why they started the game when like you said there are ponds of water out there on the end.

[Matt Jones]

I mean it was when they played that first inning it was pouring.

[Drew Franklin]

I don't understand, I'm not a meteorologist but at about 2:00 clock I pulled out my phone and I can see radar on my phone. I even said there's no way they're getting this in. You could see it heading For Bristol, a big blob. You can even, like, follow the clock to what it'll be. I wondered why they didn't try to move it up. Is Pitbull, that pit bull, that important? Because it was obvious to anyone that can look at a radar that they weren't playing baseball.

[Matt Jones]

All right, so you bring Tim McGraw. Think of all the choices of the music you could use with Tim McGraw.

[Eli]

Yes.

[Matt Jones]

I mean, let's just name Indian outlaw. Where the green grass Grows.

[Drew Franklin]

Don't take the girl.

[Matt Jones]

Don't take the girl. Whatever. Barbecue stain on my T shirt. Yeah, something like that. All these songs. They get him out there where they sing Truck. Yeah.

[Shannon]

Is that his. No, that's.

[Matt Jones]

I don't know.

That's an old song.

Yeah.

I hate that song. With such a passion. And that was the Tim McGraw song. They decided, you know, Ozempic, new ripped Tim. They get him out there. Yeah. I hate that song so much. And then that's the one they choose to play.

[Drew Franklin]

I like it. I love it.

Yeah.

Another one. I mean, he looked like Pitbull a little bit. Is he. Does he have Pitbull's haircut now?

[Shannon]

And he even mentions a Braves game in that song. I like it a lot. I ain't seen a Braves game.

Why would you not put that in there?

[Shannon]

I mean, hello.

[Matt Jones]

And then they. And then, you know, as soon as they put pit bull at pit bull out, that's when the rain started. Did you notice? It was in the middle of the pit bull concert. It was like the Lord was telling us something. Get the three. One one or whatever his name is.

[Drew Franklin]

305. Get that. Why is he here?

[Drew Franklin]

I hate it for Bristol Motor Speedway because that could have been an opportunity to have this awesome, awesome event. Now they may never do it again.

[Matt Jones]

We're gonna do it again, right? Like they. This was. They were. They. They tried, and then they're never gonna do it again.

[Drew Franklin]

And so much of it before, it went absolutely chaotic with the delay. Just the jerseys with the NASCAR numbers, the cars, the. The Braves mascot blooper who's hilarious in itself. Just him doing all the stuff around.

[Matt Jones]

The track, around in the cars. And then it started. You know, they're all getting drenched and having to act like they're enjoying. I mean, can you imagine how heavy those uniform forms were? And then when the Braves guy hit a home run to have the race car come out, the home run car. That was cool. But you just can't do anything now. Did you see the old man trying to throw the ball over the fence.

[Drew Franklin]

No, I didn't see that part.

[Matt Jones]

This is a great moment. This was clearly like a Ryan Lemon person who thinks he's still an athlete. But time is a baseball goes up on the track and someone in the crowd is saying, throw it, throw it. This old man is like, okay. And you can hear the announcers go, he's not going to be able to get that. There's no way. And this old man goes. And he throws it like 20ft. Doesn't even get it to the fence because think about how high that fence is at Bristol because they don't want cars going into the. Into the thing. That's a good video if you see it. The old man trying to throw a ball over.

[Drew Franklin]

I like that when the players, there's a video when they first come out and see that video board, they're just shocked. Like, are we going to hit that thing? It ended up being in foul territory a little bit. But that huge scoreboard hanging over them was pretty unique for baseball too.

[Matt Jones]

Shadowed a little bit. Shannon. But I don't know if you noticed when the game started how dark it was.

[Shannon]

Oh yeah.

[Matt Jones]

Cuz in the pregame Jeter Ortiz and a rod were kind of like, clearly they're there. They want to hype it up. But you could tell that they were like, hey, folks, there's a little bit of worry here. There ain't a lot of lights.

[Shannon]

Again, like you had the entire season to prepare for this.

[Matt Jones]

I mean, they literally said they were like, I, you, you could hear I. It was a rod going. One of the things to watch is the lights are pretty far away from the field and it might be hard for people to see the ball.

[Shannon]

You would have thought this was a pop up game they had just planned the day before. The way everything went down.

[Drew Franklin]

It's crazy.

[Matt Jones]

I hate it because I was so excited about it and it just, it just didn't work.

[Eli]

The football game they had there was a huge success. You know, everybody loved that. I was hoping the same would be for baseball.

[Drew Franklin]

Matt, could you say that that baseball game was ridiculous as we tweeted it was.

[Matt Jones]

That was really weir that Shane and.

[Shannon]

I tweeted the same thing at the same.

[Matt Jones]

Within like 8 seconds of each word for word.

[Shannon]

I thought you guys were hanging out or something.

[Matt Jones]

Maybe we were, we were. It looked like we were like, let's be tweet.

[Drew Franklin]

But it looked like when someone runs multiple accounts and it kind of puts them on, looks like we share.

[Matt Jones]

Well, they didn't work. And now the summer of Ellie is. I mean, it's not over, but it's pretty close. I mean, that was a big one. We're now four back in the wild card. We have the hardest schedule coming in. The Padres have one of the easiest schedules coming in. You know, I'm going to Pittsburgh this weekend to watch the series and it might be my goodbye to. To. To. To. For the week, for the year. Just because, like, I can't keep doing this. I've been, you know, this has been. I've enjoyed it. I've had more fun watching baseball this year, but, you know, I got to start getting into football gear and I feel like the Summer Valley.

[Eli]

Well, the Reds have hung in there a lot longer than most people.

[Matt Jones]

They got rid of Connor, Joe finally. So that was nice of them, but it's probably, it's probably over. And I. I've enjoyed them and a lot. Most of these guys will be back next year. Like, I like this team outside of a couple people, but I think, I think the Braves ended the Summer Valley, which makes me sad.

[Drew Franklin]

Shannon, do we feel guilty about putting the nail in the coffin?

[Shannon]

No, absolutely not. This is our Super Bowl. We got nothing else to play for this year.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, that's true.

[Shannon]

You didn't get the Bristol cup or whatever that thing was. Oh, they gave a cup, A trophy? Yeah, for Eli White.

[Matt Jones]

No. That's nice. Yeah, that dude. Who is that guy?

[Shannon]

I never heard of that junior who just got hurt.

[Matt Jones]

They just screamed some random guy up. He hits 15 home runs. You got some random guy at third looking like Brooks Robinson out there stopping every line drive.

[Eli]

Yeah.

[Drew Franklin]

Eli White had four home runs on the season. He had two in that game. Our pitcher, did you see his story? He wasn't even in Bristol on Sunday. They picked him up in a car at 5:15am and drove him to Bristol.

260 miles that morning from. From Georg to get there.

So he got called up to play that game and his name's Waldorf. Kind of like Waltrip.

I'm so glad. Before we go to the phones, UK football, we went to media day. I thought it was one of our most successful ones yet. I'm not sure if that's going to equate to winning. You know, Mitch Barnhart's interview was great. Had a lot of news in it. Mark's interview was really good. I thought the players were good. Shia Pete's interview. Mario put like a three minute clip of it on Tik Tok. It now has 620,000 views. At this point, it is our third biggest video ever behind Bronnie James and us making fun of Louisville's uniforms for being wrinkled during that team picture this kid. It got. It got like picked up by like Navajo Nation. Go read the comments on that. Tick tock. It's ksr, the show. Tick tock. Go read the comments. It's all Navajos from Navajo Nation going, I love this guy. Where can I get a Kentucky jersey? Like I'm now I'm on the Navajo algorithm.

Because of this, because of how much everybody liked that kid.

When have we ever had a situation where the offensive lineman Ryan might be the most popular player on the team?

And he proved it on the show there. That's what everybody was talking about this weekend was his interview with us. He just so genuine and sincere and you just, you feel left liking the guy as a person, not as a player, but as a person.

[Matt Jones]

And on TikTok, just so you know, like when you see Twitter like views and stuff, that's nonsense. Like they just. Those numbers are made up like Twitter views and videos. But the tick stock stuff I actually think is pretty real. You can. And 600,000 is a massive number for one of our videos. So like this kid, you know, it's interesting. He's going to have a huge platform and he's so soft spoken and all that, but still kind of has that way about him.

[Drew Franklin]

Yeah, we haven't crossed many college football players, if any, that are like him. My favorite part was when he talked about just how grateful he is and he cherishes every moment and he said, I'm even cherishing this right now with you, Brian. He made a point to like say our name. It was like this guy really. It's not just him saying it, doing the media speak. He really appreciates everything that's been put in front of him.

So you watched him play.

[Drew Franklin]

I Did watch him twice. I got two days.

So what do you feel now you've actually seen them? Not just.

[Drew Franklin]

I have a takeaway, I'm afraid to say in the radio because I. There will be an overreaction and I don't want to be responsible for it.

But it is my job. The video of going. It's not crazy to say they could go to the point. That's still out there.

[Drew Franklin]

However, I've said this to many people. I wrote on our website Friday, at least on Friday, if I were just an alien. Anybody. I don't know anything about Kentucky football's roster. I don't know the people. You just dropped me in on that field and I was watching football. Cutter Bowley was the better quarterback. Now, that was only on one day.

[Matt Jones]

One day. You're not the only one that said.

This one sample size. Calzada is going to be the starter. I'm not trying to put a competition here.

Trying to start, but the gap between.

One and two is not big at all. Now, Bowley was with the two, so he has a little bit of advantage. He's going against second string. I'm not trying to bench Calzada. Please don't say out there Drew saying Bowley's the starter, but Cutter Bowley is a very good backup and he didn't shake next year.

[Matt Jones]

He didn't shake Drew's hand when he came over Shannon, and that's why he doesn't. There was a disrespect. I may have called him Nick, but not to his face.

[Drew Franklin]

Before he got there both days, Bowley looked awesome.

So what do you. What have you been hearing? What do you think?

Well, Drew and I talked about this on the ride over here. I was told Boli will be the starter by the end of the season.

[Matt Jones]

By who? When you say that, though, like, I mean, without the name, like, what kind of person we talking knows football? Well, that could be. It could be anybody, but all right.

[Shannon]

A football knower.

Yeah. You know, we talked about this a couple of months ago and we talked about Cutter bowling and I said, man, he's going to play. They're going to put a package for him. I think he's going on the field early, just kind of getting ready just in case they have to make a move.

[Matt Jones]

Move aside from the quarterback, did you think it looked like a team that's more competitive?

[Drew Franklin]

I'm pretty confident they're going to be Much better than last year. I don't know what that means, for the record, because it's still the outrageous schedule we all know. But I will be shocked if we're not impressed with some improvements, several positions and overall a better product. Even, you know, culture has been the big thing. You could even see it in practice. They're all listening. Nobody's goofing off. Even players are holding each other accountable.

[Matt Jones]

They.

[Drew Franklin]

They looked like an operation that's together and wants to go win some games, but talent wise, and that schedule in front of them, I don't know what that means overall, but I. I am almost certain that they're going to be better than a year ago.

[Matt Jones]

You could definitely tell, definitely, even just sitting there during the media day, that the culture is better than it was. I mean, I was not at media day last year, so I do have to say, like, you got to consider that. But there is no doubt that when you were around anything football in the last two years, it was. It felt. It's sort of like when you go into a city or a town and it's like, dirty, and you just go, you know, what's happening at this place? It's very rare, if you think about it, to see a town that's flourishing, that's also dirty and with windows broken and stuff. This. I'm not saying it was dirty, but it just felt like you could just feel. This isn't totally coherent. People were walking, they were doing. It didn't feel like that. This felt more like it. What it was really in the first six to eight Stoops years. Now, that's how it felt in the first couple Stoops years. And we still stunk, but then we got good. Yeah, right. But it did feel like what they all talked about, that whole culture thing. I think that's going to be better whether we win more or not. I don't know, Ryan, but I do think that's going to be better.

[Eli]

And I felt like that was the old Mark Stoops that we had on the show on Friday. He seemed like the old guy that was kind of back to business, man. He's not messing around anymore, not jerking around. He's out there to win the football games.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah. So. And, you know, thank you to Shia Pete for giving us, like, we have a new Navajo Nation fan base. Kentucky will, too. They should sell his jersey. Oh, absolutely. I watched Naked Gun 1 last night to get ready, and tonight I'm going to watch two and a half and then 33 and a third, which is.

The third one you think you need to know the other one. I love those.

When I was younger, I had all three of them on vhs. Played them all the time. I can't wait to see it.

[Matt Jones]

You want to watch it?

[Drew Franklin]

Yes. And the reviews have only made me more excited.

[Matt Jones]

I had no issue interest in it. But if it's so good, like people talking about how there are theaters where everyone's cracking up like, it's. I like seeing a comedy where other people are laughing. It just makes the atmosphere fun. But it's. But there, there aren't many of those anymore that come out that do well in theaters. Shannon, are you interested in the new Naked Gun?

[Shannon]

Yeah, I feel like I need to go back and watch Barbed Wire first to get ready for it.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, I'll let you borrow it.

[Shannon]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

And then Naked Gun also had one of the more embarrassing moments of my life when that was a comedy Larry and I shared an enjoyment of. Larry liked the silliness and I liked it as a kid and when I was in high school, I guess I don't know if it was two and a half or 33. And a third one of them came out in the theaters and Larry took me and DJ and one of the early scenes, there's like a shadow and then someone. Something grows on someone and we'll just leave it at that. Do you remember what I'm talking about?

[Shannon]

Yeah, yeah.

[Matt Jones]

And that was uncomfortable, that with Larry sitting there because, you know, he and I, it was. It was uncomfortable. And so it was hard for me to enjoy the movie because I was embarrassed in front of him. I was like in 8th grade or 9th grade or something like that.

[Drew Franklin]

In the trailer, it looks like they recreate that scene a little bit. Young Drew Franklin was a big fan of Priscilla Presley. Wasn't that who it was?

[Matt Jones]

I'm not going to go with Larry. He'll have to see that one on his own.

[Drew Franklin]

I think they run that scene back.

[Matt Jones]

All right, well, good. I remember distinctly. DJ And I have talked about distinctly sitting in that theater and wanting to be anywhere else on earth than in that theater at that moment. I want to see it. Orvin. Go ahead, Orvin.

Yes? Hi, Matt. I was at the game on Saturday.

[Matt Jones]

Oh, you are? Okay.

[Caller]

Yes. And let's just say it was total chaos. It was a mess. They ran out of a whole bunch of stuff. They ran out of merchandise for Atlanta and Cincinnati. They even ran out of ponchos, which is essential in the rain delay.

[Matt Jones]

Oh, that's terrible. So they ran out of merchandise. That would seem like the one thing they would. There's no way they would run out of. They still did.

[Caller]

Exactly, exactly. It was a group of six of us. We flew from Pennsylvania and then we drove four hours to the game. And it was like a six month trip that we planned about six months ago. And yeah, it was total chaos. And then we.

[Matt Jones]

Did you still have fun, though? Sometimes. Sometimes in a miserable atmosphere like that, if you're with your friends, you can still make a way to have fun. Drew was saying that earlier. Did you have fun still?

[Caller]

Yeah, because I got enough alcohol in me.

[Matt Jones]

So, yeah, that's what I would think. Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I would have hated it. You know, part of the problem, I appreciate the call, is about moving the game to the next day is they didn't have anywhere for the teams to stay, which you would think in 2025 would not be a problem. But because both teams had planned on flying home after the game, and because Bristol is a small place with not a lot of hotels, they didn't have anywhere for the teams to stay.

[Eli]

So what'd they do?

[Matt Jones]

I don't know. I never heard. The Reds and Braves were both going to fly home immediately after the game, but I don't know. What, did they just open up people's houses? Like, this was an AAU tournament.

[Shannon]

Quartering soldiers in quarter Braves and Reds.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, they made you quarter Reds. All right, ma', am, Ellie De La Cruz will be in your bedroom. I'm sorry, you're gonna have to do. I don't know what they ended up doing.

[Drew Franklin]

I don't either. I was wondering that during the delay. Like, do they have plans for this? But I guess it's camping. Maybe you're just in your RV and you get a knock. There's Ellie with a little teddy bear in his blanket. Like, hey, can I get a. Can I get a bed in here?

[Matt Jones]

Yeah, scoot over. Andrew Abbott is going to be sleeping here tonight.

But he went. He was so miserable. They stayed the night and just got up the next morning and drove home. They didn't even go to the game Sunday. It was just such a miserable experience.

Well, you could see in the crowd there was a lot of people that had back. Noah. Go ahead, Noah.

Hey, Matt, I got a challenge for you. Okay, you try. So. So this past season for Mark from Mark Pope ends with now 16 years since the beginning of John Caliper's era.

So starting from first with John Wall and all that, now 16 years of Kentucky basketball, I want you to try to rank each team or basically take a tournament style, like maybe like the NBA style of like 16 seeds and rank either in, like from either one to eight on both sides, or like two sets of one through four, rank each one of the Kentucky teams and then put it through either a single card.

[Matt Jones]

That would take a long time and people would need to see the bracket. But I appreciate the call, but I can't. I'm Fine. Ranking the teams. I mean we've done this before, but if you take since Cal got here, what are, let's just say the eight best teams. I'm just going to go in order. The best team since Cal got here. I don't care what anyone says is the 2015 team. It was better than the 2012 team. I love the 2012 team. But the 2015 team was better. I know they didn't win. I don't care.

[Eli]

They were better.

[Matt Jones]

They were better. The 2015 teams first. 2012 is second, 2010 is third. I feel very confident those three to me are on another level than everybody else. 2017 for me is four. Fox, Monk and Bam. I think they're pretty strongly for. And then when you get to fifth, there's a lot of different directions that you, you, you could go. I tend to probably say 2011 is fifth by the end of the year. I think that team was kind of rolling and so for me they're fifth and then sixth. Okay, where do you want to go? I think there's an argument for the Covid team where the tournament ended. Right. Wouldn't you say with quickly and all those guys. I think there's. I probably would end up putting the team that lost in the Elite Eight to Auburn, the Tyler Hero Keldon Johnson team. I'm probably going to put them sixth, put the Covid team seventh. And then I put the 2014 team who I know they got went on a great run, but that team struggled a lot of the year. Probably put our team last year 9th. I'd love to put the Oscar team that lost to Saint Peters because they were so good during the regular season. Probably put them. Well, no, I'm going to put the team that lost in the Sweet 16 to Kansas State 10th.

[Eli]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

Oscar team 11th. Murray Euless 12. Now who's left?

Covid team. The one we didn't miss the tournament on. Cows last team and who else? What's the other one I'm missing?

The team that lost Oakland.

Oh no, no, the Kansas State second. Kansas State lost team.

Yeah.

Right. Well, the worst team is the Covid team.

Nerlens is 15. Or the neurons team without Nerlens would have to be 15th. Then I guess you would say the team that lost to Kansas State and then the team that lost to Oakland's probably 14th. So there's your 16 teams.

[Eli]

That's not a bad ranking though.

And I can't believe I remembered all those teams. But that do you like those. That list. Yeah.

[Drew Franklin]

And actually yesterday I did a deep dive on the 2019 Lost to Auburn. Kentucky should not have lost that game. They're five point favorite. Auburn's best players in the wheelchair. And then we get Virginia vs Texas Tech in that championship game.

[Matt Jones]

We don't talk about that was one.

[Drew Franklin]

Of Cal's bigger choke jobs.

[Matt Jones]

You can make an argument that team was better than the Brandon I team. I mean, I think you could make an argument for that.

[Drew Franklin]

I had forgotten how bad that Auburn loss was. They had no business losing that game.

[Matt Jones]

I think that's good. I think that's my 16 in that order. I feel very confident about the top three and even number four being Fox Monk and Band.

[Eli]

Yeah.

[Matt Jones]

Fifth is where you can kind of start putting teams where you want depending on what you like. I feel pretty good about night 5th and then I agree. That team that lost Auburn's Price also.

[Drew Franklin]

Watched the Caliper press conference about the Auburn game. I regret that. That. That just made me mad on a Sunday. It was everybody's fault but his. You know, typical. But they did play bad. But the press conference didn't make me feel. I don't know why.

[Matt Jones]

That was the game where Jamal Baker was playing well and then he fouled on that three.

[Eli]

Yep.

[Matt Jones]

Which was a bad play. But if we took everyone out that fouled on a 3 in the Cal era, Mario would be the only person left playing. Like everyone fouled on threes in the Cow. And then he didn't put Jamal Baker back in the game.

[Eli]

Drew and I were sitting right behind the bench and Cal yelled his assistance. He's done. He's done. No more. He's done.

[Drew Franklin]

That's the only tournament game I've said. Well, that one and Harrison's three against Louisville in Indianapolis are the only two times I've set near Cal.

[Matt Jones]

But he had been hot. He had hot. And he was playing pretty good defense in that game.

[Eli]

Pulled him and never put him back in.

[Matt Jones]

Yeah.

[Drew Franklin]

Didn't even consider it.

[Matt Jones]

I mean the same thing to what's his face in the Kentucky Carolina game in 2017. Who was it? Because he. Was it Derek Willis? It might have been Derek Willis. There was somebody.

[Eli]

There was somebody. You're right.

That he like in the first minute goes. We're not put. He just got in his mind sometimes that that dude's out and I'm not playing him again. And he was like that with Derek Willis for a lot of his career. And then finally Derek's senior year, he started to kind of believe in him a little bit.

He did.

Took him a long time to get there with him.

[Eli]

It may have been Derek Willis that.

[Matt Jones]

North Carolina, he would take guys that he didn't think were tough. That was his thing, tough. And if he didn't think you were tough, you were done.

Yeah. Marcus Lee, Alex for a couple years.

[Matt Jones]

Alex for a couple years, Jamal Baker was like that. Yeah, he just had guys in his mind that like, you're not tough and if you're not tough, I'm not playing.

[Eli]

Yep.

And some of that I understood, but some of it I thought was unfair to those guys because he'd make it to where they didn't, didn't have a chance.

[Drew Franklin]

In the Baker game, Ashton Hagan said seven turnovers quickly and Hero were like 4 for 20 something and Baker had three minutes. I mean, just not even a chance to go in there.

[Matt Jones]

And he had, I think he had been really good the night. He'd been good for a few weeks.

[Drew Franklin]

And he was good in the few minutes he played. He just committed that one, that one.

[Matt Jones]
