We are at Shady Rays here in the Summit where it is beautiful and where today during the show, 50% off all sunglasses, which is amazing. Deal. I just walked in there. You could walk out of here with sunglasses for like 30 bucks if you go in there. Because with, with the discount, we're giving stuff away throughout the day including gift cards etc and getting ready for big weekend where most of us are headed out of town and Shannon's playing at Manchester Musical.
Shannon The Dude
That's right. I'm going to be right here in Lexington. You guys are leaving me. But you, you were very nice to let me just stay at your house.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, you said you didn't have anywhere to go. I just gave you access to my house so you can have, you can first of all look at all the shoes. You have access to my house un, you know, unsupervised. I'm going out of town.
Shannon The Dude
I'm going to try all your shoes on and hang up some pictures for you.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, your feet are too small for if you did that. That would be nice pictures for me. There's some on the ground. Okay. 859280, 2287. Shady Rays has the best sunglasses, premium polarized shades. They're an American owned company right here in Kentucky. Great crowd here this morning. And this is. We're in the bougie shopping center. Drew, like you got, you know, you're in a boot. You got like yoga right there. You can get a blowout right there. This everything you would want to do to be big at market.
Ryan Lemon
Nails done down there.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, exactly. You could come here. Lululemon. Oh, great. If you are 40, 35, 40 years old and you want to meet a rich husband, you could just spend your whole time right here.
Well, I don't want to sound like I'm bougie, but I come here every Sunday. I go to Whole Foods, get my groceries for the week, do a little walking around.
Oh yeah, for Whole Foods, yeah.
Lots of good restaurants around here. Sunglasses. Even though it's opposite side of town for me, I really like to summit out here.
It is beautiful out here. 859-280-2287. You know, the guy asked me before the show if I had a lot of topics and I had a couple things I was going to do to start. And then a story came out this morning that I actually thought was probably the most interesting story. I, I don't know about you, but I've always wondered, Ryan, you know we have a. Kentucky has a deal with Nike. I've always wondered like how much do we make from that? Because we've been in Nike school forever. Well, the Herald Leader, big shout out to John Hale. He got the information and UK has extended their deal with Nike for 10 years. And we have the specifics. And so. Have you read the article yet?
Ryan Lemon
I've not.
Drew Franklin
All right, so I think this would be a good chance for you to guess. I want you to guess. In the new deal with Nike, how much does Kentucky get paid a year to wear the Swoop and to have all of its gear made by Nike? 56 million a year.
Ryan Lemon
No, no, total. The total. Okay, so what, 5.6 a year?
Drew Franklin
You think it's $5.6 million a year? All right, what about you, Shannon?
Shannon The Dude
I'll go 15 million.
Drew Franklin
15 million a year?
Shannon The Dude
Yes.
Drew Franklin
Well, you're way off original. I had no about until this deal. Guess what we were getting paid before? $1.8 million a year. Wow. That was it. $1.8 million a year. And then they gave us a 1.7 million dollar bonus. So basically we're getting 3.5 now under the new deal, we get $7 million a year. So they ended up adding it $5 million more. $7 million a year. And instead of that 1.7 million dollar bonus, Kentucky gets 15% of everything you buy that has that Nike, that has the Wildcats logo on it. 15%. Now I don't know how much that is, Drew, because we've apparently not gotten that in the past. But that would strike me as being more than $1.7 million a year. That's just a guess, but I just look at it this Crowd. All of you pretty much have something on the gear that says Kentucky on it. So 15% of everything that has it on. I, I, I'm just, this is a complete ballpark, but I'm going to guess what, 11, 10, 11. When all that gets added up, would you. What do you think? Sure.
It sounds good to me.
I have no idea, but that's just a guess.
In reading the article, I was actually surprised that they didn't get a cut in the past and they just got a flat. This is what you get for the year. I would think moving forward it's going to be a lot more profitable. And there were, there are a lot of incentives we didn't have before.
Let me get to those. So there was a lot of other stuff that came in there that I thought was interesting. So you get Shannon250. $50,000 for winning the national championship in football.
Shannon The Dude
Okay.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. What are the chances we get that during this 10 year deal?
Shannon The Dude
Zero.
Drew Franklin
Zero. Okay. But this should tell you how much football is, what drives it. How much do we get for winning a national championship in basketball? $50,000. So Nike values a national championship in basketball 1/5 as much as football. That kind of surprises me because while football gets huge ratings, it doesn't get five times the ratings for like a national championship game. Women, every other sport, so women's volleyball, women's softball, baseball, whatever, you win a national championship in that $25,000. So they basically value those sports half. So that's the, that's the big picture. Now. I'm, Drew has always con. Been. He's convinced me on the, it ain't my money, it doesn't matter. But I do think it's interesting to compare it to other schools. Okay, so I, we've, we have, I've sort of come up, I think Kentucky's probably looking 11 or $12 million a year. Guess who gets the most. Do you know who gets the most?
Shannon The Dude
No.
Drew Franklin
Ohio State. Would you like to know how much Ohio State gets a year from Nike? Remember, we get, I'm guessing 11, say $11 million. Ohio State, 25 million.
Ryan Lemon
My goodness.
Drew Franklin
Wow. Now double. Here's the thing that frustrates me, Drew. Adidas, as you know, paid the most of any school in the country. Their biggest one they pay the most is Louisville. Guess how much Louisville gets from Adidas. $16 million a year.
Ryan Lemon
Wow.
Drew Franklin
Which means Louisville is getting $5 million a year more to wear Adidas then we're getting, at least by my guesses, to wear Nike.
Shannon The Dude
Time to switch to Adidas well, that.
Drew Franklin
Was what I was gonna ask.
Shannon The Dude
What do I care what the logo is?
Drew Franklin
Well, so the people that would make the case for Nike would say, first of all, Adidas gear sucks. If you've ever worn it. Like, it's the worst. I mean, I have a couple things of Adidas. They always fall apart and they're not as cool. Secondly, there are players, Drew, you know this. That the Nike thing, the Adidas thing for Louisville keeps them from going. I mean, Louisville fans think if they lose this Tyron Stokes. Tyron Stokes, the number one player in the country, it'll be because he's a Nike kid. Is there any argument that you should take a company like Adidas? It could be New Balance, it could be whatever in order to make that extra money? Or do you say, look, we may get less, but we're part of the Nike brand?
Not at Kentucky. You're Nike's best basketball school. You and Duke, maybe 1A and 1B. I feel like going the other brands something you do. If you're a little more desperate and farther down the totem pole, like a Maryland with Under Armour, even though that's local, you're just trying to reach and build a different brand. But when you're Nike and you're the or Kentucky, and you're the gold standard, you need to wear the gold standard. And I think most kids consider Nike that in athletic wear.
Ryan, I already know what you do. Whoever paid you the most money is where you would go. There'd be no other consideration. Like, you could have like a company that no one's ever heard of, you would take that. Am I right?
Ryan Lemon
Absolutely.
Shannon The Dude
You take that brand and make it cool, though, right?
Ryan Lemon
That's right.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Look, anyone could do it.
Ryan Lemon
I'm wearing Adidas. People are going to be buying Adidas, baby.
Drew Franklin
They are?
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
If you are.
Ryan Lemon
If I'm wearing it.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon
Look at me. Of course.
Shannon The Dude
What are you wearing right now?
Drew Franklin
That's quite a look. Yeah. Yeah. Those shoes, that's top of the line.
Those are from the old contract, I think.
I think that's probably. What do you think, Shannon? Does it. Is there any ego hit to the fact that Louisville gets $5 million more a year?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I think that there is. And again, I know players value Nike versus Adidas. For me personally, it wouldn't matter to me. It would go to the highest bidder. So if Adidas is going to give me $5 million more to put on their gear, why wouldn't you that? Unless you're going to lose players now that's what it comes back to. That's the other side of this argument. Will you lose players because of that?
Drew Franklin
I think you would in basketball. I don't. I don't know if it makes any differ football, but I think in basketball, Drew, you. There are guys we would not have gotten over the years, especially when Cal was here. There are guys we would not have gotten if we were not a Nike school.
Adidas is not a basketball brand. I mean, they have good stuff. Name their biggest Adidas endorsement.
Adidas.
Name the best basketball player wearing, I guess, Anthony Edwards maybe. But with Nike, you have Booker. You have so many UK alums where you can tie that in. It's already. Kentucky and Nike are already connected in so many ways.
Adidas is a European brand that does a lot of soccer like. Like that. Basketball is second. I'm amazed they pay Louisville what they pay. I don't really know what they get out of that, but maybe just to say because, you know, they have Kansas and Louisville, that's. That's kind of what they have.
Shannon The Dude
But kind of going off Drew's point there, if I'm Kentucky, that's where I go in and go, hey, we can be the biggest names for Adidas.
Drew Franklin
Okay, there's that. By the way, that's what they did with media rights. So our media rights, for all the complaints you hear me do about, about JMI sometimes, etcetera, which, by the way, I think a lot of that stuff's better. But the reason JMI got our media rights is Kentucky did that with media. Everybody was with img and everybody was kind of getting paid on a formula. And Kentucky went, and there was this new company called JMI that said, we will blow these people out of the park. Just go with us. And so they did it. So, Drew, they've shown they would do it on something else.
Yeah, I just don't think you can give up what you have now. I mean, Kentucky's the first to get the new Kobe's. I mean, there's so many things that Kentucky benefits from Nike, and that's what the kids want. Stokes is a great example. If he doesn't pick Louisville, it's probably gonna be Kentucky or God forbid, Arkansas, both because of a Nike connection over Adidas.
Yeah, well, I found it interesting. I also think it interesting shows you how much more money is in college sports. Ten years ago, our total payment from Nike was three and a half million dollars. Ten years later, we're looking at 11 to 12 million dollars. So in 10 years, the cost or the worth of college sports, at least in the eye of this publicly traded corporation that has to answer to shareholders. The cost is four times what it was ten years ago, Brian. Which, you know, if we all think, man, tickets cost more, everything cost more. You're right. And here's an example. It costs four times more in 10 years than it did before.
Ryan Lemon
You know, old guys like me probably think it doesn't matter. The shoe doesn't matter. The logo, the brand, it 100% absolutely matters. And that's a perfect example. What has happened to it. The brand you wear makes a huge difference, especially the players you have now and the players you're recruiting.
Drew Franklin
I think it matters now more than ever too, because they're signing these deals in high school. Like D.J. wagner was on the COVID of Nike stuff before he even got to Kentucky. Stokes is the same way. There's other examples. It's going to be big in recruiting. Moving forward with nil.
So now. So that's going to go forward with Kentucky also. We got to see a little bit more on the basketball thing. I was looking at the schedule, Shannon, in terms of the home SEC schedule and it is the most balanced I've ever seen in terms of. So as a restaurant owner, here's a little secret. I look when the schedule comes out and I'm rooting for Saturday home games and I'm rooting for midweek road games, right? I want Saturday home games because that gets a huge day of stuff midweek. Roman road home doesn't make a huge difference. In years past, like we have had an imbalance. Maybe we would have six Saturday home games, only three erod or whatever this year. And the SEC put out an announcement yesterday. They said they tried to balance it wherever coaches have complained. Every team has five Saturday home games, five road games. Every team will have the same amount of nine o' clock games this year.
Shannon The Dude
I like that you remember, because we.
Drew Franklin
Sometimes it's felt like because we were in that prime slot, we'd get all these nine o' clock games. Every team will have the same one. It looks like they're trying to make it more balanced, which I'm for.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I like that they're making a concerted effort to do that and not put Kentucky on these 9 o' clock prime time games because they draw better ratings. But it's tough on the fans a lot of times, you know, a midweek game at 9 o', clock, not over till 11 o'. Clock. If you, you're driving outside of Lexington, you may not be home till midnight. So I like the balance of the midweek.
Drew Franklin
I mean again, completely on a selfish level, a midweek road 9 o' clock game is like a desert for the bar. Sometimes for a 7 o' clock it's okay but for a 9 o' clock you can forget it. But I also think if you look at our schedule, Ryan, it is the most balanced. But I continue to think, man, we have all of our hard games on the road and all of our easy games at home which I think makes it hard to hit the ceiling of a record we want. Like I think it's going to be impossible to go like 16 and 2. But I also think right, it means our floor. You remember last year we were flirting with 500 a lot of the year. I don't think that's going to be the case this year because our home games outside of Florida and Tennessee are actually pretty easy in SEC play.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah, maybe balanced in time slot and day of the week. It ain't balancing opponent. And every year Kentucky's going to play twice. Tennessee, Vanderbilt and whoever probably the best team is in the league. Last year it was Alabama. This year it's going to be Florida.
Drew Franklin
But I still think that's relatively balanced. I mean no offense to Shannon. Vanderbilt's going to stink most years.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, you get them twice.
Drew Franklin
So one of the teams we're going to play twice every year is going to stink and then Tennessee is going to be good most years. So one of the teams we play is going to be good. This is the price you pay Drew, to get every game on. Remember? I mean our non conference games. You all will be able to watch all of our non conference games on a network except maybe one these other teams they have like eight or nine games that are on the app in the non conference. The price you pay for that is you have to play the best team in the league twice.
Yeah. And with the road thing, you know you sleep up, slip up on the road every year when you shouldn't. Last year I was an old miss in Georgia. Maybe if you just lose two or three on the road this year you're going and surrendering to those big opponents and you hold court at home against the easy teams to help out your record. The most important thing is just not slipping up at home with the schedule.
Can't lose at home. We play Mississippi State, Missouri, Georgia. You know what A and M van, you just cannot lose any of those home games. 859-280-2287 we are here at the summit in beautiful Lexington, Kentucky on a sunny day. This is Listen, I can tell you are going to be sweating. You make it through these two hours, you're going to be like my favorite people and I know you could do it. We got some, we got some hardcore ones here. We'll take a break and be right back. Is Kentucky Sports Radio the reviews and.

This Saturday, 4pm Eastern on CBS with playoff elimination on the line, the stars will be flocking to Los Angeles to witness the most physical, fiercest and competitive basketball in the world. 859-280-2280 Apparent 2287. Apparently Tennessee is switching to Adidas. So that's even more reason we never could. If Tennessee and Louisville are there, they're basically the evil empire.
So we can't go. Yeah, Tennessee was Adidas's biggest brand for felt like decades and they switched to Nike. I don't know when that was. Fairly recently. And they need to go back to Adidas. Get them out of here.
One person writes, Matt, everywhere I went yesterday, people were talking about paving over cemeteries. I blame you. My wife and I also got into an argument with it last night, including me leaving and saying, just cremate me. So I'm glad, I'm glad. That's how the conversation I all night was having. People send me stories of what former. What had happened at former cemeteries where they were pictures of like, there's an airport that has two runways and then two graves in the center of it. Like, stuff like that is crazy. I didn't realize Trump buried his ex wife on his golf course on hole 13. I bet she loved that. Wow.
Shannon The Dude
Like in the fairway or like the green?
Drew Franklin
No, it's Bob Bunker in the fairway, I think. Fairway bunker.
Oh, it's in the fairway, I think. Well, it was in the book. I would never be there anyway, but, but, but nevertheless, there's a ton of these stories and I did not realize that guy that wrote me yesterday was right. We had almost no regulations on what people had to do with cemeteries until like 1984. So if you were born before 1984, they kind of could have done whatever they wanted. Now I had another person write me though, and say that after those regulations, it made cemeteries more difficult to maintain. So that's why nobody builds any more cemeteries now. So it was like it helped keep the exploitation, but it also led to where now no one builds cemetery. So I guess it's, I guess it's, you know, I guess there are trade offs for each thing.
Shannon The Dude
I went down that rabbit hole yesterday of reading about the story that you were talking about that happened in the 80s. Just a crazy story.
Drew Franklin
What did you read?
Shannon The Dude
Well, I mean, just no more details than what you talked about, but it was just kind of interesting to read and see that these bodies were just being taken out and removed without anybody's permission. It's kind of wild to think about. Just goes, there's so many things going on in this world that we have no idea about until you start.
Drew Franklin
And then we sit and argue about ads of genes and like there's like bodies being dug up, literally bodies being dug up from the ground. And we're like, I don't like that jeans ad. And then we get really, we get really upset. The JAPAC Kelsey did a bunch of interviews yesterday, and in it they were asked about the UK Louisville game being so early in the year. It's funny because he seems like a really nice guy. And Mark Pope, if you remember earlier, essentially said it's Louisville's Fault that game's November 11th. Pat Kelsey was like, yeah, it might be our fault. We screwed this up, but we're playing it November 11th. And he kind of insinuated it would never be that early again in the year. So I was glad to see that. That.
Ryan Lemon
I hope he's not. I hope he is telling the truth, because I hate it. I hate the fact we're playing that game, this, that early in the season. So if it was just a schedule faux pas one time, never let it happen.
Drew Franklin
It's going to be like our second game of the year, isn't it?
Second week of the season.
Ryan Lemon
I hate it.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, we all hate it. I think even Louisville fans hated it while Pat Kelsey saying that. But I loved ruining their Christmas. Every year. It was always right around Christmas and then the football game had already been played, so we got to talk trash all the way till November. This year I'm a little less confident football. So if we beat him in basketball, two weeks later, they can shut us up on the football field.
Yeah, I mean, that's a. A big part of this, this year is that the basketball and football are so close. If you lose them both, the other fan base will never shut their mouth. And I remember they had redone the schedule so that one team got home football, one got basketball, and then it alternated, but then Covid hit and we missed one of the games, and it ended up making them to where they were on the same year. Ryan. So that's. That's why. And so we have to go to Louisville for both of them this year.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah. Louisville backed out of that covet game.
Drew Franklin
That's right. That's right. They did back out, didn't they? Yeah.
It's all on them. All of this is their fault.
Shannon The Dude
Would you trade a loss in basketball for a win in football over Louisville?
Drew Franklin
No.
Shannon The Dude
You know, because the basketball game.
Drew Franklin
That's a good question. I think it depends on what our record is. Is. So if we're five and six going in the Louisville game. Yeah, you're.
Shannon The Dude
You're a big underdog going into that game.
Drew Franklin
If we're five and six going in the Louisville game, I'd rather win the football game.
Shannon The Dude
If we're three and eight, doesn't matter.
Drew Franklin
Then I'd rather lose the game.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Cuz B. Look, I mean, I want to beat him in basketball, but it's November 11th that football game. If it's a difference between going to a bowl or not. I think you can make. Now, I think you can make an argument we'd rather win the football game. Right.
Ryan Lemon
I like the fact that the football games of the last game because we've had that before. We go into the game with five wins. They had a good team. Upset them, got our sixth win. Catboile.
Drew Franklin
I mean, that's happened twice.
Ryan Lemon
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
And it's been big, I think, for the school both times.
Shannon The Dude
Plus, we got to beat the little dog this year. I mean, that's another thing.
Drew Franklin
See, I think about. Think about listening. Listen. Think about how much fun it would be to go out there and be grown men and win this game. Like, think about. Like, that would be because the camera.
Ryan Lemon
Would pick up Vince on the side.
Drew Franklin
I mean, Vint, like, the amount of trash talking, you know, I didn't even think about that factor. Now I'm kind of all in on the football. Unless we've only won three games.
I'm still going basketball.
You are? Yeah. Okay.
We need to shut this revival up. Whatever. They've this Pat Kelsey bump.
They have beat him last year.
Let's keep beating them. Go put them in a locker in the center. I don't want to lose the basketball game ever. Especially this football season. We're not doing anything.
How many of you are? Let's split. How many football. How many basketball cares about football? It really is. That was 90. 10.
Shannon The Dude
We are three weeks away from the.
Drew Franklin
Football, and it's just not. People just.
Shannon The Dude
They don't care.
Drew Franklin
Don't believe in it. No. Wow, that surprises me. 859-280-2287. Couple open lines. Give us a shot. We'll take a break. Be right back. Ksr.
Shannon The Dude
Here's Matt Jones.
Drew Franklin
Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-280-2287. Text machine. 772-774-5254. We will go to the phones, but first, Drew, Randall Cobb.
Oh, yeah.
Is in a new reality show. He's gonna be on a reality show. What's it called?
Special Forces.
Special Force. His. He'll be, like, going through training as if he was entering the military. Special Forces, Is that right?
Shannon The Dude
Yep, yep.
Drew Franklin
They've already had a couple seasons. This Cam Newton did it. They, like, hang out at helicopters. They do all kinds of crazy stuff.
Shannon The Dude
They call it the world's toughest test.
Drew Franklin
So. So world's toughest test. I mean, Randall's. Is he. Is he 40? He's, like, 30s. Right.
Right at it. I'D say he's not there yet because I think he's a little younger than me, and I just hit 40. But he's getting close.
Well, as a just a little spoiler, there was some talk on the NFL show. Drew and I are going to do that. He. Randall, might be the third guy and, like, you know, like Hulk Hogan with the nwo. He was going to be potentially the third man, but they said he would not be able to be here for the first six to eight weeks. And I guess now we know why, because he's going to be out Special.
Shannon The Dude
Forces, and there's no doubt in my mind he is going to win this thing. Have you seen the other contestants on there? It's like Jussie Smollett, the actor.
Drew Franklin
Is that the guy who faked getting beat up?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Why is he on there?
Shannon The Dude
Well, we're gonna see how tough he is, I guess. Obviously not very tough. He got beat up. Yeah. And a bunch of, like, just random names that you probably don't even recognize. A few former NFL players.
Drew Franklin
So it's all celebrities? Yes.
Shannon The Dude
I mean, loosely celebrities. I mean, some of these names I've never even heard of before. Reality TV shows.
Ryan Lemon
Johnny Manzel's in it.
Shannon The Dude
Manzel is in it.
Drew Franklin
That's.
Shannon The Dude
That's the name, I think.
Drew Franklin
Randall, he's tougher than Johnny.
Well, he's not the only one representing Kentucky. Brittany Cartwright, also on there from right.
Vanderpump. Yeah.
Lexington's own. I knew. I knew Brittany years ago. Super famous.
Former Richmond Hooters employee is now. And it's now. I feel like Randall Cobb can beat her, too. I don't know Brittany. I feel like Randall can be. I like, when she's nine.
We've known her for many years, since college. Yeah, it is a. I mean, Shannon's right. There are some celebrities on there. You're like, well, that person. I've thought of them in years. But it is quite the cast of people that will be doing.
Shannon The Dude
I was gonna read off the names, and I'm like, I don't even know who these. Nobody knows.
Drew Franklin
Sean Johnson, the gymnasts, right?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
All right. It sounds like a star studded.
Randall's winning is the point.
Yeah. Let's go, Randall. Reed shepherd was back working out yesterday in the Kentucky basketball gym. Question for you. Is the Reed shepherd wearing the Arkansas shirt the day of the game? Is that, like, forgotten and forgiven?
Shannon The Dude
Well, it was till you brought it up. I forgot about it.
Drew Franklin
So it was forgotten. I guess I screwed that up. But do you think Fans. You think they're gonna care about that? I mean, in the moment, people said they would. Do you think they care now?
I didn't care at the time, but I can tell you, and there's some people here that Right on KS board with me. There is part of the fan base that has not moved on. They've brought it up this week when we have a post about. Because Dick Vitals in with it. We shared that in the comments. Where, where's the Arkansas shirt? Where's the Arkansas shirt? So I think it's a very small percentage, but does exist. Yes, Ryan, but it is out there.
Ryan Lemon
It definitely stung because that was game week. He can make it all up this year. Just wear a Kentucky shirt this year. You know, just flip it around if you have to.
Drew Franklin
It's not. Well, I'm not mad about it, but this year's not the same. Last year was the moment like, like, like, like the look, tensions were high. You know, we, we talked about the UK Arkansas game for months. I really haven't thought about it until the schedule came out. Like, I, that was the moment. It's, I, I would argue, Shannon, it's not the same this year. Yeah, you can wear a Kentucky shirt this year. It doesn't really change a lot.
Shannon The Dude
I, I'm with most fans. I didn't like it in the moment. I've kind of moved on at this point. Like, I'm okay with it now. I mean, I mean, I hope he doesn't do it again, but what if.
Drew Franklin
He does it again?
Shannon The Dude
Well, that he's doubling down and then. Okay, and then we're gonna remember it.
Ryan Lemon
He is working out at uk, not at Arkansas. So, you know, he came back home to work out.
Drew Franklin
Wait a minute. What does your shirt say? Say Meditating Matt from Hindman. Is that him?
Ryan Lemon
Is that you?
Shannon The Dude
That's him.
Drew Franklin
That's you? He is. Oh, you're the guy in the garden.
Ryan Lemon
Meditates in the Garden.
Drew Franklin
I know. I thought you were gonna be a lot older. I, I, it's very normal.
Ryan Lemon
His voice makes him sound like he's old.
Drew Franklin
You got like a Madison thing, like in your 60s or 70s. Okay, well, that's good, though. You look young for your age. How's that? Okay. I'll tell you what. I might bring you up in a bit. I want to talk to you. Meditating.
Shannon The Dude
Math, it's all that meditating. That's why you look so young.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
Keeps you young at heart.
Drew Franklin
You know what? He actually is 74 years old. That's good. All right. Who's up first?
Shannon The Dude
Got Brooke up first.
Drew Franklin
Brooke. Go ahead, Brooke.
Annabe
Hi, guys.
Drew Franklin
So I've got two things. I've got one about the cemetery in St Matthews yesterday. It's in the shopping center off Breckenridge Lane and Dutchman's Lane. Breckenridge Lane depot and everything is.
Shannon The Dude
Yep, yep.
Drew Franklin
I used to live right there.
That's where the cemetery is. Okay, well, if it's behind the McDonald's then there are a beautiful place to.
To rest near Panera.
Right. And then second, with the schools changing from like say under armour to 90, what do these students and these athletes do with all this extra. They're not allowed to sell it. A lot of the students, the moment they graduate, put it on ebay and sell it. Now I mean I every. If you wait anytime a season ends, especially in football because a lot of these dudes are now transferring go on ebay a few days after the season ends and there's a lot of gear on sale. Back before rev share and nil it happened. Even the person who beloved UK the most would sell their gear. So yes, they are allowed to sell it. It's their gear. You know, I mean, and that's another thing to think about, these contracts. I appreciate the call. It's not insignificant that Nike produces uniforms, practice gear, shoes, all of that for everyone. Not just for basketball, but for football, for all the sports. And that. That is a large cost, I would think.
Yeah. And they tripled what Kentucky gets this year. So they're have all kinds of shoes and hoodies. And there's. There's actually a website now that Nils out where it's dedicated to players doing. It's called like the trunk something. I, C.J. frederick posted his Cincinnati and Iowa gear yesterday. So you can actually go find a player and buy all their stuff. So they don't even hide it on ebay.
Shannon The Dude
So they like the gear but they like money more is what I'm hearing.
Drew Franklin
Well, they have a lot of it. I mean, I know I. I'll take Max when. When he went back to Australia, he had so much UK gear. Like he didn't even. He couldn't even take it all. So he. He gave. He gave a lot of it to. To kids in Lexington. So there's like a lot of people probably walking around with Duffy football shirts.
Because he wear Dane's stuff all the time.
Ryan Lemon
My closet is. And Josiah's closet is full of Dane key gear.
Shannon The Dude
You gave me something from a Dane key visit.
Matt Jones
I did, yeah.
Shannon The Dude
With a shirt or something.
Drew Franklin
So I mean, they get a lot of stuff and so. Yeah, I think that's. That's true. What was her second question? I'm not sure. All right, who's next?
Alan is up next.
Alan, Go ahead, Alan. Hey, guys. How you doing? I'm Paula and I wanted to apologize.
For the profanity the other day.
I was on the job. Yeah, you were the dude who said you understand of the words you can say. You said the words you can say the least. Yes, I apologize for that. Like I said, I thought the phone had disconnected, so my apologies will not happen again. You thought the phone had disconnected with the first words you said? No, I didn't know. I didn't realize I was still on the phone. Okay. All right, well, go ahead. Well, I'll forgive you. Okay, thank you so much. A couple of things. One with the football team. I was listening to Jeff McCorl this morning on the Tom Leach radio show. Yes. And I. I have to agree with him. I really think we have a chance to be a big surprise for a lot of teams, especially if we win that Ole Miss game.
We don't have the star power like.
We had in the past, but we do have depth and it's all around, so that's going to aid us. Coincidentally, that applies to my second point, the basketball team. Could you imagine with Colt and his staff with the coaching acumen, if they employed like a platoon system where each team with reserves. No. Could play different defenses and stress and just run his offense. I'm anti. I put the platoon year. Appreciate the call. Was a lot of fun. I really loved. Was enjoyable and we had an amazing amount of success. But we have to get out of our mindset. Drew that. That is something we can continue to do. I want you to just take a step back and think about who was on that team. Okay. You had Carl Towns And Devin Booker, two of the 25 best players in the NBA were on that team. Tyler Ulis, arguably one of the best college point guards we have ever had, was on that team. The Harrison twins, two of the most clutch players we have ever had were on that team. I just named you five guys and I didn't even name our first team All American from that team, which was Willie Collie Stock. Trey Lyles is still in the NBA from that team. So I just named seven dudes that are on most teams. They'd be on at Kentucky, Ryan, the best player that would be on it. And there were seven of them on one team. And by the way, the 8th, 9th and 10th were guys like Dakari Johnson, Alex Poytheris and Marcus Lee not exactly like terrible players. I love this group but this ain't the same thing. This isn't the same thing. This is a group of dudes where I think the first team is going to be the best team and I think they're going to be a lot better than the second team and hopefully members of the second team can get in. But Ryan, you can't act like 2015 is something that's replicable.
Ryan Lemon
That was fun. The platoon year was fun. It ain't ever going to happen again ever.
Drew Franklin
And it's a team ever will have.
Ryan Lemon
That kind of talent again.
Drew Franklin
And it should. I mean remember Devin Booker came off the bench like, like it's, it's. I, I just. We. I would even argue that you could make a case when we got to the tournament we shouldn't have Platoon then. They probably should have only played seven or eight guys. I love Marcus Lee. He probably shouldn't have been playing by the time you got to that. Probably not, you know, Dakari, probably not a ton of minutes. That's just me. But you know, what do you think?
No, I agree. And it happened by accident. Cal kind of had to make that up on the fly because Ulis and Booker committed to be the guys and then the Harrison twins said we'll come back and Cal was like, oh, I got a predicament. And he had to assure playing time to keep us and book around. Same with the big guys. When Willie was supposed to be gone at that point they even assume might be gone. So he had this recruiting class that thought it was going to be their show and then everyone came back and he managed to keep them together. But at that point he had to keep everyone happy and it just worked out.
That was a great coaching job and it was a great team. But no, I would not want to see that that replete repeated. 859-280-2287 would pay if you were late August 20, 2025. You've heard me talk about estate renovations. Kentucky's go to high end home remodeling. But here's something you may not know. If they go over the promise projection completion date, Ryan, they'll give you a hundred dollars every day they go over the date.
Ryan Lemon
Nobody does that. Nobody guarantees that. That's.
Drew Franklin
That does sound good.
Ryan Lemon
That is pretty cool.
Drew Franklin
Don't do that, right? No, they just drag and drag and drag. That's how confident they are in the process. Kitchen, bathrooms, whole home makeover. They're all do it at Estate Renovations Estate R e n o s.com estaterenos.com KSR mention KSR you get a little bit off of when you met when you book your your your remodel estate reno's.com they mean it and if they don't do the date they say you get paid. We'll take a break and be right back. We're here at Shady Race. 50 off during the whole show, Shady.

Shannon The Dude
Just came to collect.
Drew Franklin
He's got him on.
Look at look how look how cool he looks.
Oh my goodness.
Seriously, you look like you could be a villain in an 80s movie right now with us. That's right. All right. 859-280-2287 Shady Ray shadyrays.com Best sunglasses in their company started right here in Kentucky. Ryan, I want to say one thing that bummed me out. You remember we played a few weeks ago some People, we got kids who. Who was here from Bell County. Somebody came up here and told me. Bellcast. Yes, shoot. From Bell County. You know, we had that. That dude from Middlesborough was on America's Got Talent, Bill Taylor and what were they called? The. The Hicks or something. Bill Taylor, he. But hillbilly heathens. That's right. So I learned something that kind of made me mad. All right. So, you know, they got the thing of. Now you get to go to Hollywood, right? And you would think, well, Drew, what do you get to do?
Go to Hollywood.
Get to go to Hollywood. It was pretty straightforward. They literally said, you get to go to Hollywood. Turns out they tell a hundred people they get to go to Hollywood, but only 44 get to go to Hollywood. That's mean.
Shannon The Dude
Absolutely foul.
Drew Franklin
How mean is that? So he put out video. He and the Heathens don't get to go to Hollywood. Now, apparently, if you go to the American Mary's Got Talent social media sites, they had the most views of any video. So you would think you would send them to Hollywood. Maybe they're scared of hillbillies in Hollywood. I don't know. But Bill Taylor doesn't get to go. And I'm sorry to see that because I was excited to watch my Middlesboro brethren, Ryan, play in. In Hollywood.
Ryan Lemon
Extremely shady.
Drew Franklin
They invite you in at Shady Ray.
Ryan Lemon
At Shady Ray, they invite you, then they pull the rug right out from underneath you. And they deserved it. Like you said, they've got the most views, obviously very popular. I think they would want the most popular people there in Hollywood.
Shannon The Dude
And how are you going to televise them being told they're going to Hollywood and then not send them to Hollywood?
Drew Franklin
I don't know. Maybe. Maybe they met Hollywood Florida, and they didn't.
Shannon The Dude
You can go to Hollywood. Just gotta buy your own ticket.
Drew Franklin
And you don't get to be on the show. But of course you're welcome to be in Hollywood. I don't like it. I was happy for those folks. I was gonna root them on. I was gonna, you know, America's Got Talent. I was going to be publicizing your show for weeks. Not now. You couldn't make me watch your stupid jugglers the rest of the season because you're not sending Bill Taylor and the hillbilly heathens.
So does it mean they're eliminated or they're just not able to go to Hollywood for the next phase?
Bill's video was long. I couldn't. Okay, I couldn't totally follow it, but it sounded like he wasn't in the contest anymore.
Ryan Lemon
So, like, your chances are slim if they don't even invite you to Hollywood.
Drew Franklin
I don't. I don't know if they let you win from home. I think you actually have to go.
Shannon The Dude
But, like, they didn't win. But they didn't lose either.
Drew Franklin
No, they out. I think they're out.
Shannon The Dude
Oh, they're like purgatory.
Drew Franklin
But again, his video was convoluted. But. But he doesn't get to go to Holly. So I'm. I. So now when you watch America's Got Talent and they go. You get to go to Hollywood. No. That they're dirty liars and you might not get to go to Hollywood.
Ryan Lemon
No, you don't.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Shannon The Dude
I'm boycotting Stan Middlesboro.
Drew Franklin
Yep.
Shannon The Dude
I never watched it before.
Drew Franklin
That was. That was mean. All right, so I had somebody write me last night with a question. Drew. And I think this is good because we talked about Travis Perry. And then it also applies to somebody that Mr. Hawaiian shirt here cares about, too. The question was, Matt, forget about when they play Kentucky. Just in general. When a guy leaves Kentucky, are you cheering for them? So let's talk about, in the form of football, Dane Key Barry on Brown. Let's leave aside that we know Dane and we want him to succeed because we know him. But when a football player leaves Kentucky and goes to a. And could have stayed, so this isn't pushed out the door, could have stayed. Do you root for him at the new place? Do you want to see Barry on Brown return kicks for touchdowns for lsu? And if we didn't know him, would you want to see Dame Key with that stupid corn on his head scoring in Nebraska?
It's weird, I think, and maybe this isn't the way to be. I. I feel like I will root for people from Kentucky, not just because I know Dane, but same with Travis. I don't know him that well.
But if they're not, I don't care.
Like, I won't root for Barry on Brown, but I will root for Dane. And I don't really know why that is. I might just be because he's local and I want him to do well, but almost. If Baron Brown goes there and becomes a star and he's returning kicks, I'm going to get upset we didn't get more of that in Lexington.
Barry on Brown, by the way, was named by, I think, ESPN first team preseason all American kick return. So, you know, they're obviously expecting him to do well. Ryan. I know. I mean, you're going to be cheering for Dane. But, like, would you cheer for Barry on.
Ryan Lemon
Okay, we'll take Dane out of the picture. I absolutely will cheer for Barry on. I don't know, because he was here for. For three years, we kind of got to know him a little bit as a person. I think he's really a good guy. I would cheer for him. I won't cheer for Travis Perry every game but the Kentucky game.
Drew Franklin
So what about. I mean, you do to some extent know those people. So let's say, say Alex Safari had left and gotten to, you know, Georgia. Would you cheer for Alex Safari?
Ryan Lemon
Probably not as much because I don't know him. You're right. You know, Barry, I've been to my house. Alex Safari. I think I would cheer for him, but not as openly as maybe I will for Barry on.
Shannon The Dude
I'm not cheering for any of these guys.
Drew Franklin
I knew you're gonna.
Shannon The Dude
I mean, like, I won't be watching a whole lot of Nebraska games. I mean, I wish Dane well in success there, but I won't be watching, so I really won't be.
Drew Franklin
The interesting question is, if Ole Miss is playing LSU on a random Wednesday night on ESPNU and you flip the game on and Travis is in the game, do you want him to make shots? That's the question. The answer you all is, yes, I do. I do.
Ryan Lemon
Okay, for sure.
Drew Franklin
I want him to have a great career at Ole Miss, just not against Kentucky. I think it's something with. They'll come back to Kentucky. We want Kentuckians to do well. You know, we all rank the best people from here. I really think it's just where they're from. For me, like, if Cutter Bowley to leave, and I don't want that to happen. But say next year he goes off, I would be for Cutter Bowley. But Alex Safari not.
I don't know. Did you root for C.J. frederick at Cincinnati?
To be honest, kind of forgot he was.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Sorry.
Shannon The Dude
Most of these guys, we'll forget they're even there.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, it is weird. Like, I'm. I'm pulling for Dane because. I know. But I'm gonna have mixed emotions if. I mean, LSU plays Alabama, it's prime time, abc. Kirk, Herb street, he returns the kick. And people are like, barry upgrades the best kicker. Turner. I don't know why I'm doing, but Dick Vital. But he's the best kickback Turner ever hit. I'm gonna have mixed emotions because I'm gonna be like, we sure could have used him earlier today when we lost to Mississippi. You know, it would have been nice. We'll take a break. Be right back here at Shady Rays. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

KSR - Hour 1 (August 8, 2025) Summary
Hosted by Matt Jones and the KSR Crew from iHeartPodcasts and Sports Talk 790 (WKRD-AM), this episode of Kentucky Sports Radio delves deep into significant developments in UK sports, insightful discussions on the SEC schedule, and engaging interactions with listeners.
Drew Franklin kicked off the main segment by unveiling a major update on Kentucky's partnership with Nike. According to the latest information from John Hale of the Herald Leader:
Notable Quote:
