This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. It is Tuesday, August 12th. I am Matt Jones on a beautiful day once again in Lexington, Kentucky. We are two and a half weeks from the start of football. We're two weeks from the opening of KS bar. We are three and a half weeks from the start of the NFL season. You know, we are like two weeks before our first NFL podcast tape. There's a lot going on but today we're here with you. 859 Clark's public punch out phone line. 859-280-2287. Avision auto glass text machine is 772-774-5254. In this edition sponsored by the T.J. smith Law Office, you call TJL, make them pay. Ryan is gone. I've got Drew, I've got Shannon. I have 14 topics. They are of various significance from very significant to not significant at all. I think we'll do one of these where you just will say a number.
Drew Franklin
Oh, okay, that's.
Matt Jones
And I'll do them. Is that all right with you, Shannon? Yeah, I want to make sure you. I want to make sure it's okay with you.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I'm wearing the most important one here. So yeah, make sure it's okay with me.
Matt Jones
But before we do that, I want to tell a quick story. Can I tell a story before we do things? So you know, we went to Pittsburgh for the Reds game, did the show there yesterday. I made a mistake before the show Started. I didn't look at the checkout time of the Airbnb. Supposed to be 10.
Drew Franklin
Oh, that seems early.
Matt Jones
I agree.
Drew Franklin
I would assume 11.
Matt Jones
Wouldn't you always assume? I always assume every hotel is noon, but that's become a change. I think when I was younger, every hotel said noon, and now they're like 11. And now some of them, Shannon, are starting to creep to 10. And I would argue that should be illegal.
Shannon The Dude
Well, minus 10.
Matt Jones
Oh, yours is 10.
Shannon The Dude
On yours, my Airbnb is 10.
Matt Jones
Why do you want some. Everybody out so quick?
Shannon The Dude
Because you got to give the cleaning person enough time to come in. Because check in time is 3 o', clock, and some of these people that clean, I have to do like five, six condos. So they're scrambling. You got to give them enough time.
Matt Jones
Well, I did not know. So I, I was doing the show, and then moments before we. We started, the guy just walked in. And I want you to imagine again when you're like, running an Airbnb and you walk in and a person's doing a radio show in your house. Shannon, it looks. It looks strange, you know? Yeah. Yeah. And I was like, sir, I'm doing a radio show. And he just, he goes, okay. And then he just walked away. And so I was able to finish the show yesterday.
Drew Franklin
You got friends with her knives out.
Matt Jones
Their knives out, and then it's, It's. It's a whole thing. So we get in the car, as soon as it's over, we drive back. My. My buddy wanted to go to the. The Reds game and the Snoop Dogg concert last night. So we're trying to get home in time for. For the D O double G. By the way, I heard that. That that stadium was full. I heard that maybe some families didn't know the kind of concert Snoop puts on and that some families may have left in the middle of it. Shannon, I put that on the family, right? If you, if you don't know what Snoop Dogg does, that's on you. That's not on the Reds. But there were people complaining. How could the Reds have him? I would argue it's on them, Shannon, don't you think?
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, I mean, I think you should know when it's Snoop Dogg Night at Great American Ballpark.
Matt Jones
Yeah. What do you think? You think this is going to be family dog? It's, It's. It's Snoop Dogg.
Drew Franklin
I mean, literally, murder was the case.
Matt Jones
That they gave him, he said, and he was charged with murder. So I don't know. I just.
Drew Franklin
When does the concert Fit into the night. Is it like the seventh inning stretch?
Matt Jones
Like, the game last night went really quick, so they had a long delay before they start the game. But what they do is when the game is open, parts of the field people can run on it. Okay. And then they let everybody move to the side so they can see. But I mean, tickets were going for hundreds of dollars last night. People wanted to see Snoop Dogg. But anyway, so we're driving back and I forgot to do something that I always do, which is when I get a rental car. Shannon, get satellite radio because I want to be able to flip the music. And I like, have, you know, this was going to shock you. I like having the control of the music, etc. Forgot to do that. So that meant, you know, it's either listen to FM and AM stations in Western Pennsylvania. I've already listened to most of my podcasts. Plus, they don't want to hear. These are not like hardcore sports people. They don't want to hear Bill Simmons.
Drew Franklin
Or that Pittsburgh show. We listen to that.
Matt Jones
Yeah. They don't want to hear Mark Madden. So what I did is I was like, all right, I'm going to turn on sports radio. Because I never listened to it. Now's the moment. First thing I do is turn on New York sports talk radio just to listen to them whine about the Yankees and the Mets. I'm going to go ahead and tell you, I highly recommend when a team is losing, that's high profile, Shannon, turn on their radio. Yeah, right. Pick the city that's had the biggest heartbreak recently. Turn on sports radio there, Drew. I find it very fun. And when it's New York and they're like, fire everybody because the Mets and the Yankees are stinking right now, that's great entertainment.
Drew Franklin
Good meltdown. Could be entertaining. As long as it's not your.
Matt Jones
Your team. Exactly. As long as it's not everyone else's misery when we're losing. It's not. It's not good. Then I flipped to national sports radio. It's just so boring. And I'm not. I mean, I know I do it, but for in general, like, they don't have the passion, you know, and it's all Patrick Mahomes and Dak Prescott training camp. Believe me, because I have to do it. I know what it is. So then I decided to do something I don't do a lot. Shannon. And my. Our old boss here used to say, don't talk about competition. Right. But you know what? Like, that's part of it, right? Like you do, you do talk about. I have not listened to the Cut Man, Alan Cutler in, like, ever, certainly in many, many years. And he comes on, I think, right after, Right after, on another station. So I thought, you know what, Shannon? I never listened to the Cut Man. Everything I hear always has filter.
Shannon The Dude
You get no filter.
Matt Jones
And he gets, He's. No filter. Yeah, I need no filter. I think I had heard one segment once because it was like, you know, I don't remember why I'd heard it, but, but, but. So I turn on the podcast for no filter. Alan Cutler is still so Alan Cutler. And let me say, as someone who, who I grew up watching Allen Cutler, so I, I, I find Alan Cutler entertaining with his Allen Cutler ness. People think I talk a lot. He doesn't stop talking. There's like, no commercials. I mean, don't you agree?
Drew Franklin
Oh, Yeah.
Matt Jones
I catch 40 straight minutes of. And there is some person on the show named Jimmy. Oh, yeah, Jimmy. Jimmy. Hey, Jimmy. What are you doing? Jimmy. Jimmy, far as I could tell, doesn't speak. But, but, but, but he's, he, he's always talking about Jimmy, but I'm listening anyways. Talking about UK football. He's going into a lot of detail about UK football. I mean, he, he is like just UK football. UK football. And then all of a sudden, we're like 25 minutes in and, you know, time is passing. I'm looking at the, you know, I'm driving through now. Zanesville, Ohio. I'm like, isn't that where the monkey ate the people's face? Do you remember that? Remember that? The monkey escaped, Shannon. I don't remember. It happened. I had a zoo. A guy had a zoo, I think, and somebody came and opened all the doors and the animals just took over town. I mean, I think it's a Robin Williams movie. But then I also think, I'm telling you, I think it happened in Zanesville, Ohio.
Drew Franklin
Zanesville Museum.
Matt Jones
I'm telling you, look it up. Zanesville, Ohio. There was like an animal takeover. One of them became mayor. And it was a whole, it was a, it was a whole thing. We.
Drew Franklin
48 animals were killed by law enforcement because they were just running around.
Matt Jones
But in my. Right, it was in Zanesville, Ohio.
Shannon The Dude
But then one of it. You said all those animals got killed, but one animal had the last laugh, right? The one that ate the man's face.
Matt Jones
I don't remember if that's the same story. There was a time an animal ate a woman's face. This is not sweet or anything, but, like, I don't know if that was in Zanesville or if that was in a different place. Point being out, when I drive through Zanesville, I always think of that story. So I'm driving through Zanesville. If you've made that drive from Pittsburgh to Columbus. Not a lot of things to look at. Alan Cutler's talking about football. Jimmy's just sitting there doing, jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy. And then all of a sudden, again, I'm just trying to enjoy my drive. Shannon. He just starts attacking me. About what? Out of nowhere, he just starts attacking me. And he's like, you know, when I don't know what's going on, I say what's not going well. I say it like nobody would ever accuse me of ever acting like I know what's happening. And I don't know, maybe then he goes, but you know who does that? Smack Jones. I'm just driving. Yeah. Through Saintsville, Ohio, catching strays. Catch it. The. The definition of catching strays. He just starts blasting me and he's like, Matt Jones, always saying. Saying he knows everything. He doesn't know everything. Yeah, he's got good ratings. What's that have to do with anything? He was like, but he doesn't know anything. Just remember that. Right, Jimmy? Right, Jimmy? What do you think, Jimmy? Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy. And it's like. It's like two and a half minutes of me just catching strays, and my friend Tal is sitting in the front seat with me. And in classic hymn, every time Cutler says something, he just looks at me and goes, booyah. In your face. Like, he's like, cut man. No filter. And he's just so. I'm just taking it the whole way. And Shannon, I didn't do anything to him. I haven't. I haven't said one bad word about him. And here I am in Ohio just taking it from Cutler for two or three minutes, and then he moves on. He goes, but, but, but. I love Matt Jones. Back. Back to UK football.
Shannon The Dude
Did you ever consider calling in at any point?
Matt Jones
Well, actually, I did, yeah. Because he asked for calls. No one called. I was going to call.
Shannon The Dude
I wasn't gonna let him talk.
Matt Jones
I was gonna be like, matt from Lexington. And then. But I. But I didn't because, you know, I was watching out for the animals in the street in Zanesville, but it was just, you know, here you think you have a relaxing Monday drive. Turn on. That's what I get for. Turn it on. Sports radio. Why did I turn it on? I should have just listened to Willie's Roadhouse.
Drew Franklin
You know, when we leave here, I'd say most days on my drive home, I go to the cup man, usually Clay and Buck come on. And I'm like, oh, crap. And I. I need. I need some sports talk. And Cup Man's there for me. Clay, no filter.
Matt Jones
Well. Well, no filter. So there. So anyway, I didn't like that.
Drew Franklin
That would be weird. You just think you're gonna tune in and hear what they have to say about camp and start talking about.
Matt Jones
They were just talking. When I was on the New York stage, they were just talking about Juan Soto, and they think it's really funny that he only hits solo home runs. So one guy's like, juan solo. And then they just crack up. I'm used to that level of banter. And then they're like, matt Jones thinks he knows everything.
Shannon The Dude
Well, Billy was telling me that he had something to say about me, saying I don't know anything about sports and all this and that we acknowledge we don't know anything. I forgot. I didn't, you know, know that Cutler played college sports or any kind of sports.
Matt Jones
Listen, Jimmy, we. We don't know anything. I want to be very clear. Everyone listening to this knows we have no knowledge. You hear Ryan? Unless it's the preamble to the Constitution, he can't. He can't say anything.
Drew Franklin
A whole year of Kobe Brayu. An entire year.
Matt Jones
I was the 11th man on the Middlesborough High School. They asked me to be a manager.
Drew Franklin
Politely.
Matt Jones
So you're not listening to this show for expertise. You're listening for entertainment. I still. I've called our quarterback Zach Calzada all year.
Drew Franklin
Well, you've called him Nick.
Shannon The Dude
His name is. His name.
Drew Franklin
We're gonna get you there.
Shannon The Dude
You've been calling him Nick.
Drew Franklin
Will Wolford and Nick Calzada are your boys. Eric Wolford, Zach Calzada. There's actually someone on KS board whose username is Nick Calzada. Will Wolford.
Shannon The Dude
In your honor, he proves your point.
Matt Jones
So it is Zach.
Drew Franklin
It is Zach.
Matt Jones
Not Nick.
Drew Franklin
Not Nick. You usually say Nick.
Matt Jones
Okay, Zach Calzada. See, this is a sports proof of all the things you can accuse us of. I don't think it's acting like we know more sports. Now, since you brought up Nick. Since you brought up Zach Causada. There's a lot of rumblings that this job is not his yet. That Cutter. Cutter Peanut Butter has been. Has like that has been better in camp. I mean, let's be real. If you talk to people that have been there, there are people who say Cutter Bowley has been better. I think the state plan is still to start Zach. But if you ask the people that go to camp and the people that are in practice, they will tell you Cutter Bowley has been better. Do you think there's a chance we get to that first game and Cutter. Cutter Peanut Butter is starting?
Drew Franklin
No. I mean, I think Cutter will play at some point in the year.
Matt Jones
But if nothing else, what if he is better? If he's better, should you not start him or is it just you? I wouldn't.
Drew Franklin
Week one, okay?
Matt Jones
You've.
Drew Franklin
You've invested in Calzada. He's got one year. Cutter's your future if you throw him out there.
Matt Jones
What if he's been better all five weeks or all six weeks of camp? Like, how much, how much do you have to see?
Drew Franklin
I mean, if that were the case, then you'd start him. But he's been with the twos a lot. The two practices I went to, he did look great. But Calzada is taking the snap between.
Matt Jones
Going against the first and the second.
Drew Franklin
Cutter is everything I've heard around him. He has the right attitude. He knew when Calzada signed that Calzada would likely be the first quarterback and that Bowley's the long term option. And by all accounts, it sounds like he's patient and knows that he's the future and he's not in a hurry. But I mean, yeah, if he were just absolutely killing it every day, you'd have to go.
Matt Jones
I just think if, if I. I think you have to think about it because if you talk to again, they don't open the practice, so it's hard to really know. But if you talk to the people that go, they will all say they'll make sure nobody's looking, they'll make sure Jimmy's not there and then they'll say, Cutter's been better.
Drew Franklin
He has looked awesome.
Matt Jones
I.
Drew Franklin
Without a doubt, this is the best two deep they've had of the Stoops era.
Matt Jones
Probably going the quarterback situation's better than it's been in the Stoops era. That seem bold statement.
Drew Franklin
I can't think of a second option that has been this close to the first option. And then even behind them, you got Bo Allen and year 15 and a couple freshmen that look all right.
Matt Jones
8592-802287-77277-45-254. We are going to be filtered all day, just so you know. Full of filter. It is me. It is Shannon, it is Zach. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Welcome back Techie Sports Radio. If I'm not 2802287 Text Machine 772-774-52541 Person writes Matt, I do listen to the Cut man sometimes. He takes shots at you all the time. And Shannon. Actually he doesn't say much bad about Drew or Ryan. Also, no one takes more shots at you on there than Brad Taylor. Who's Brad Taylor?
Shannon The Dude
That's all you need to say. Who is that who cares?
Matt Jones
I mean, I'm not even being a jerk. Who is that?
Shannon The Dude
I don't know.
Drew Franklin
I think that's the guy that follows Cutler on. On that station.
Matt Jones
On what station? On his station. He has a. There's a person named Brad Taylor that has a show.
Drew Franklin
It's like a gambling thing. He always says the Blogger Boys across town.
Matt Jones
Blogger Boys?
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Shannon The Dude
So you do listen to this stuff, Andrew, you're all into.
Drew Franklin
I turn it off when Brad Taylor starts. I do listen to color.
Matt Jones
Blogger boy. I haven't been called a blogger in a long time. Me.
Shannon The Dude
E. When's the last time you did?
Matt Jones
I would say I'm pretty regular with dog in quite some time. The Blogger Boys. Actually, that would be. That sounds like band name. Yeah, that would be a good band.
Drew Franklin
Cutler does reference the show a lot. It's not always negative, but he does bring us up a lot.
Matt Jones
Writes. I feel like Shannon was about to cook and you cut him off on being upset about. No, I want you to go. I like when you get angry.
Shannon The Dude
He's just an old man. He's so insignificant, nobody even listens to him. Except for apparently you and Drew.
Matt Jones
I did. I was. One day. I didn't even know.
Shannon The Dude
You know, if a tree falls in the forest, nobody hears it. What's the matter?
Matt Jones
I love. All right. What? Before I go, the phones here 1 to 14. Shannon, I'll let you pick first.
Shannon The Dude
Yep. I'll go number three.
Matt Jones
Number three. John Gruden says he wants to coach in the sec. Let's say we go three and nine, knowing he has said, I want to coach in the SEC and there are only 16 schools and there's going to be only probably two that have an opening, maybe three. Do we start to hear all of that at the end of the year? If we were to go 3 and 9?
Drew Franklin
I've already seen fans making memes and he's photoshopped on the sideline. I think Gruden's entertaining and I think he's doing well in media with barstool. I don't know that you can hire a guy who hasn't coached college since the 80s.
Matt Jones
That's not what I asked you. I asked you if we go three and nine, how much of that it will be out there. Shannon, you're shaking. Yes.
Shannon The Dude
That would be my first call. I would love to have Jon Gruden here. I think we'd be crazy not to want to have him here.
Matt Jones
All right, you get Jon Gruden or John Sumrall. Let's say they both would say yes, Gruden all day.
Shannon The Dude
All day. Not even a question if summer is on the table.
Drew Franklin
I don't even consider Gruden. What I do is offer him a coordinator position on some coached college and almost 40 years. Yeah but the college game is.
Matt Jones
I'm not trying, I'm not trying to run Stu soft. I'm just saying to you at the end of this football season after that statement there are going to be at least one or two SEC fan bases that are going to be having this conversation. And if you were to place Vegas odds on which one is most likely to have it, we would probably be the odds on favorite. It would probably be us in Arkansas if we're being. If we're being on.
Drew Franklin
Well, I don't think 10 or more of those schools can even consider him because they're a lot further along than we are. It would have to be a.
Matt Jones
You're really looking at. I think it's UK and Arkansas would be the two that would would look.
Shannon The Dude
At imagine Arkansas gets them, has a great, you know, great success, great run with Gruden and it could have been us.
Matt Jones
But remember this is a school Mitch Barnard almost hired Bill Parcells. Let's just keep that in mind. People forget about that. It's one of the great kind of in the back of UK history moments is that they had Bill Parcells on a plane to bring him here and then Jerry Jones called and they flipped around and went to Dallas. A lot of people don't remember that, but that's true. So I, I want Mark Soups to be here. Hopefully we go nine and three with Nick Calzad. But nevertheless. But I'm telling you that if we things go the opposite way, that is a conversation that that will occur. Noah, go ahead. Noah.
Caller
Hey man. I want to get your opinion on this and I apologize if you guys have already talked about or this in the past but I want to, I want to hear from you guys what you think of from last year's March or Big Blue Madness where we had that big ASB glass for that or that UK put in. Yeah, I don't know what you guys thinking of. Like that's something of like you think UK should be putting in for or hear your opinion. And then I'll think of like what if that's something UK should maybe try in again for the future because in my mind I'm thinking obviously this is something that's going to get the oohs and odds of the fan really cool at the same time and correct Me if I'm wrong, but it feels like that's taking up around not like 90 of your entire production budget.
Matt Jones
Yeah, everything. Anything. Everything cool. If you do it too much will not be cool. Like, I mean, the Soulja Boy was cool at one point, and then they played it so much. Now you can't do the Soulja Boy, and it'd be cool. Appreciate the call. I feel like every influencer, like, you got it and you don't. So I think the key is to always make something different and exciting. So do you do the floor again? If you can make something different, make it interesting. Sure. But they'll come a point. You have to come to something else. I just want them to always be, like, going for whatever the next thing is. Sometimes it might not work, but keep it up. We didn't. We did that in the early Cal years. Then we kind of didn't for a while. It got stale. It was good to see them go back to that. I hope they continue to do that. You have to be on the cutting edge. And when you're on the cutting edge, sometimes you're going to swing and miss. That's okay. You keep going and keep taking another at bat at it.
Drew Franklin
Now, the floor is very cool for something like madness. And I'm with you if it can keep advancing. I can't even remember exactly the tricks they did, but if they could, like, have, you know, spots pop up or, you know, you get a five pointer from a random circle that pops up, things like that, that would be unique. But if it's just continues to be videos, that might get a little stale. But I wouldn't mind them trying it a few more times. It is pretty impressive.
Matt Jones
Just keep pushing the envelope. That's, I think, how you make it to where you go, oh, what's next? That's what you want to do.
Drew Franklin
A fun story about that court. My neighbor installed it and he dropped one of the panels. They're very expensive.
Matt Jones
Oh, Jay. Go ahead, Jay.
Caller
Hey, guys. Calling y' all from the beautiful Sunshine State this morning. I'm originally from Fleming county, but my family's on vacation down here, and I had nothing to do today. Kind of a bad weather day. So I'm going to Gainesville to see the Tom Petty childhood house.
Matt Jones
Oh, that's kind of cool.
Caller
And probably gonna stop by Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and see if I can't get him. Get Billy Napier's ear for a minute. But, yeah, I just wanted to say.
Matt Jones
Hey, that's kind of cool. I would like to do that. Go ahead.
Caller
Yeah, I'm super stoked about it. Real quick. I heard through the grapevine that you're, uh, your McPride entity. Uh, McDonald's was the same people that funded Tennessee's McDonald's bag.
Matt Jones
You're breaking up, man. I don't know where you are, if you're out on the beach or something.
Shannon The Dude
Petty's house.
Matt Jones
Yeah, Tom Petty's house. Sorry, we had to back down because we can't hear you, Jimmy. So I'm.
Drew Franklin
That's the end of the line.
Matt Jones
I would love to go. I would love to go to, you know, to. To the Tom Petty house. But don't come around here no more with that phone because it's not working. We don't mention that company, by the way. That is cool when they do that. The Florida game, when they play his song.
Drew Franklin
I got the Stoops video to it when we won down there. That was awesome.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's. That is very cool. We'll take a break. Right back, ksr. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call tj. He'll make him pay.
Shannon The Dude
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Matt Jones
Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio. Yeah, this is. That's a wonderful. I mean, we've talked about this a lot. Tom Petty's a top five artist for me. First concert I went to, first time I, in person smelled what marijuana smelled like. Like, just really in person to be like, oh, that's what it is. You know, your first dance with Mary Jane, it was. That's right. Well done. See, that's why you gotta have. He just. He's good at it. 859-280-2287. One person says, Matt, I listen to a lot of local shows in both Lexington and Louisville. I do find it kind of sad. They all mention you a lot. I never really hear you mention them. That's true. Completely. Well, I don't know if it's true. They mention me. I don't listen to it, but I don't. I. You know, when we got started many years ago, Drew remembers this. We just took shots at people. And I always have regretted some of that because I thought, like, why did I do that? And it was. But if you look at it was just trying to, like, build our thing. Almost all of those people are no longer in media. Alan Cutler's probably the last one. And so the same thing is true with the new people now. Like, they gotta find a way. I mean, the reality is. And I don't say this to be Mean to any of them. There's not one local show in Lexington or Louisville that rates anything on any radar, except I think Drew Deener does a little bit, maybe. And then the H A. S shows, they're not really sports though. They, they. But nobody else does. So, like, I get it, they're trying to. It is what it is, you know, But I don't know who they are. Like, I didn't know who Brad Taylor was. Honestly, I didn't know there was a person named Brad Taylor. And when's he on?
Drew Franklin
After Cutler?
Matt Jones
Well, I don't know what that is. What time is that?
Drew Franklin
I guess Cutler's two hours.
Matt Jones
I think so.
Drew Franklin
Two?
Matt Jones
Yeah. Okay, well, I wish him the best, Shannon, because I don't know. And the day, like, I. If you think about it, you've known me a long time, Shannon. I don't squabble with anybody locally anymore.
Shannon The Dude
No, but you used to.
Matt Jones
Oh, for sure. Like Kyle Tucker. Yeah, yeah. And then, well, what's funny is they all just ended up where we were. After criticizing us for years. The Herald, the Courier, all of them have just ended up doing the exact same thing KSR does, just not as good. So for years we were told we were evil, and now they all just do the same thing. I saw ESPN the other day. Is hiring a 22 year old tick tock person.
Drew Franklin
Saw that.
Matt Jones
They should, but like they're just now doing what the barstools of the world did just later. And that's what happened here locally. Right, like that. Just. And. But the difference between us and them is we saw it coming. And I knew that wasn't going to work. And so, you know, so I do not take it personal. Although I was just driving through Zanesville. Oh, 1, 2, 13. Give it to me.
Drew Franklin
Malarkey. Number 10.
Matt Jones
Number 10, let's see, 13. This is a little complicated. Tell you what, let's take a call and then I'll go to it. Andy. Go ahead, Andy.
Caller
Hey, guys. Hey. I spent 16 years living in Zanesville and I was like five minutes from where the zoo animals got let out and the guy let them out.
Matt Jones
Were you there when they let him out?
Caller
Yeah, I was. I lived about five minutes from the guy's house.
Matt Jones
Oh, so what happened? Tell me. So they say, hey, 46 zoo animals are out. What did you do?
Caller
I stayed in the house.
Matt Jones
Were you nervous? Were you nervous there's like gonna be an elephant outside?
Caller
No, because I really didn't know exactly what was going on until after the fact. And you know, I was listening to it on the news. And I had people calling me from Kentucky and from other states that. That I knew was asking if I was okay and everything. It. What turned out, I guess the guy, it was kind of fat. Well, it was a sad story. He. He was facing charges and let all his animals out and committed suicide.
Matt Jones
Oh, well, way to bring it down. And I was just trying to.
Caller
That's what happened.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Well, the truth is the truth.
Caller
Some of the animals got rescued. That's a good thing.
Matt Jones
That's good. All right. Thank you, Andy. 859-280-2287. One person writes. Don't you feel it's disrespectful that you and Druce call Zach Calzada? Nick, I do not do it on purpose. I will get it right. It is Zach. I want him to be successful. I want him to kill. You know, when he was on the show, he seemed like a nice kid. I want him to be successful. I also want Kentucky to win. And if Cutter Bowley is better, he should play you. There is a fallacy in poker called the fallacy of the sunk cost, which is you've got so much money in. You feel like I have to do this because the money is in. You have to know when to fold them. Right. You have to know when it. So when it doesn't work. Now, I'm not saying we're there at all with. With. With Calzada, but if Cutter's better, it doesn't matter what you paid in nil or anything else. You have to do what's right. We'll see what it is. I'm not taking a position, but I don't think we should be stuck on. It has to be this guy. Cause he was who it was supposed to be.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. And Cutter. Cutter looks really good. I worry that if, like, let's say the line doesn't pan out or it's just not a good year. Cutter is your future. If you put him behind a bad line and he has a bad year, that can derail his future. So that's why I say.
Matt Jones
But see, but he may not be here anyway. I mean, I don't. I think you're right about that, but I don't think you can do that in today's college football. In today's college football where people can leave any year. Shannon, I think you got to do for this year. You can't assume for the future. None of these dudes may be here next year. So, like, you have to do what's best for the team. That's on the field that year because you don't even know if you're going to have these guys the next year.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah, Cutter may stick around, and we may end up going to the transfer portal and getting somebody better. And then Cutter has to sit again. And there's a lot riding on this season. Let's put the best guys that we have out there from the very beginning. I don't care if he's supposed to be the starter or not. If another guy's better, put him out there.
Matt Jones
I mean, to your point, I get what you're saying, which is you don't want to get cut or hurt, but let's say you keep Cutter on the bench, you don't get him hurt, and then he leaves. What good did it do you?
Drew Franklin
I'm with you. And I think Calzada is still maybe even better than him. Like, Calzada has been good, too. It's just cutters turned heads because what we saw last year, you know, he's thrown into tough spots. Florida at Texas, he looks much better than he did in those games, and it's exciting to see him. It's not that Calzada has been bad or anything. And honestly, they're going to run so much. I could be quarterback. It is going to be run. Calzada said himself, we're going to run a lot.
Matt Jones
So what's the point of talking about six wide receivers if we're not going to throw the ball?
Drew Franklin
Well, Calzada, he's even said in interviews on me today, we're going to run, run, run, and we're going to hit a play action where I can show off my arm. So he's. He is a good deep ball threat, and I think that's where he's going to come into play. But it is going to be run.
Matt Jones
Run, run, run, and then lose 27 to 6 just seems like the most disappointing thing.
Drew Franklin
I think we lose 19 to 20, it's going to be like those games.
Matt Jones
Well, I mean, that's at least competitive. All right, so. So you, the one you picked there, number 10. Do you all use the website Letterboxd? Never even Letterboxd.
Shannon The Dude
No.
Drew Franklin
Never heard of it.
Matt Jones
I'm just gonna tell you, be careful if you get on it. So I guess it's like a social media site for movies.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Matt Jones
So you make an account and you rate all the movies you've ever seen. First of all, when you start that process, that takes a long time because you've seen a lot of movies. But if I just Sit here and say, name the movies you've seen. It's kind of hard to come up just with movies off the top of your head. I sat there one day, next thing I know, I was 200 movies in continuing to write. It's on a zero to five star scale. And you sit there and you go, okay, is Wedding Crashers better than Stepbrothers? Or is it the same or is it worse? And you're doing it and then it gives you recommendations and then you can follow people and you can follow your friends and Shannon, see what movies they like and what they've reviewed. And it sounds stupid, but then once you get on, I'm on there. I'm Matt Jones, ksr. I don't care if you follow me or not. It doesn't matter. I'm not asking you to. I'm just saying, like, I think the only thing I like is just going back and going, did I like Avatar? Was it a two? I don't. Well, no. Two and a half. No two.
Drew Franklin
So there's decimals. I feel like just five.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew Franklin
Halves.
Matt Jones
You can do halves.
Shannon The Dude
Isn't it like, if you're deciding to go back and watch a movie you've already seen, like, why would I do that? I hate.
Matt Jones
Why would I do that? Exactly. You can go back and look, it keeps. But the thing is, there's a big upfront cost in trying to remember all the movies that you've watched. Right. I just. I'm sitting there going, yeah, I did see Three Men and a Baby. I don't remember my reaction to it, but I did see it. And I've probably rated hundreds of movies and there's still a ton to do because you don't remember. And then in theory, as things come out, you do them more. But I'm still trying to catch up.
Shannon The Dude
I'm up to 384 on. I do IMDb, but it's similar to what you're talking about.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but letterbox is a cool one.
Shannon The Dude
Now, just so you know, I don't care what's cool.
Matt Jones
I want you to follow me. I want you and I to be letterboxd.
Shannon The Dude
I'll have to get on there, then.
Matt Jones
Get on letterboxd also. Then people can create their list, like the 50 best movies of all time and all that. I think.
Drew Franklin
Check it out.
Matt Jones
I think you would love it. It's got. It's very much a Drew Franklin.
Drew Franklin
Disappointed I didn't already know about it.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, it's just. I'm telling you, though, if you get on it. It's, it's, it's addicting because then it just, you just, you just want to make sure you have all your movies if you've ever dominated a trivia night or you know, every word to the preamble like our man Ryan Lemon. The National Civics B is Thursday, 4 to 6 at the Kentucky State Fair. It's like a spelling bee, but about civics Constitution in our democracy, there are people from all over the country coming to the south wing of the Kentucky State Fair. 4 to 6pm Thursday. It is the National Civics Be brought to you by the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce because understanding government is important and community matters, as do funnel cakes. It is Thursday, August 21, 4 to 6, the Kentucky Civics be and then, by the way, Friday, KSR is at the State fair.
Drew Franklin
Looking forward to it.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So one of my favorites of the year, KSR is Friday at the State Fair. Between now and then, I'll let you know where at the state fair it is. But be ready to this is our yearly state fair show. Do you think the one guy's going to come by?
Shannon The Dude
I was about to ask you the same question.
Matt Jones
He's going to come by, isn't he? The guy?
Shannon The Dude
I think he got banned from there.
Matt Jones
Was it last year? I bet he's there. I think they, I think they ban him and then he gets, he comes back the next year until he gets banned.
Shannon The Dude
Comes right back.
Matt Jones
I bet he's going to be there.
Shannon The Dude
I hope he.
Matt Jones
But anyway, we will be there Friday. That's the O. It's a sec. It opens Thursday. So this is the second day of the fair. We'll be there Friday for ksr. We'll take a break. Be right back. Kentucky Sports Radio the reviews and ratings.

Welcome back, Techy Sports Radio. Doesn't look like a lot of you are on letterboxd. It's all right, you can thank me later.
Drew Franklin
Actually, the message board had several people say they're on there.
Matt Jones
So text machine. Usually when I say something like that, like I had four people write me they were from Zanesville. I thought there'd be people sort of saying letter, but. But I guess not. But I understand. Maybe I'm on the cutting edge. One person got Matt Jones, Drew Franklin, Jimmy the Dude. You guys are nuts. We're three weeks before the season and you're already trashing the starting quarterback. Manufacturing to controversy. This is the reason some people hate ksr. The negativity. It's not negativity, it's conversation. Remember last year I got trashed for saying there was a way we could go to the playoff? That was being too positive. What people don't like is not the negativity or positivity. They don't like when people disagree with them. Whatever. Whatever position they have. If I don't have that position, then that's somehow a fault in my personality. Obviously it comes through in politics a lot, but it also comes through in sports. Ask some people, they'll go KSR Sunshine Pumpers and they're too positive. Ask other people, and they're too negative. The reality is what people? Well, some people want. Most people don't. Most people enjoy hearing different conversations. But what some people want, like you, sir, is you just want people to agree with you. And if you want that, then just talk into a mic, a recording, and just listen to yourself. That'll be the easiest way for you to make sure you get somebody that agrees with you on every state.
Drew Franklin
I had someone write me just the other day about how negative I am about UK football all the time. And I'm like, two years ago, I booked a room in Atlanta before the season.
Matt Jones
You wouldn't go on that one basketball game because it was the same day as a champion. What do you want from me? We're giving you what our raw emotion is. Last year, I went in the season ready to punch people in the face and was like, we could go nine and three. And that video is still floating around the Internet and people still make fun of it. This year, I don't feel as positive. I'm just telling you what I feel. I'm not as positive.
Shannon The Dude
Video yesterday, that came out. Now people are saying 2 and 10. Now after that video.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, that video. Well, let's just say that was one of the topics. Let's just talk about for a second. So that video, you know, Shannon tweeted it out. Well done, Shannon. That was great. Thanks for that. And then Mario put out the video of us talking about it. So I got some information on what happened. The one of the two guys at wanted to do it.
Shannon The Dude
He's off the team.
Drew Franklin
I think it's our starting line.
Matt Jones
I think it's our starting linebacker. They were trying apparently, to recreate, like, a sorority run rush video.
Shannon The Dude
This ain't the time, bro.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, but right there, that's when someone has to go, we're an sec.
Matt Jones
I don't know about you.
Shannon The Dude
Not now.
Matt Jones
I'm not sure that Dick Butkus and Ray Lewis, like, I'm not sure that they recreate a lot of sorority rush videos. Now, listen, I will do the stupidest stuff imaginable, and I'm okay with it. And this show does stupid stuff, and I'm okay with it. I. I just don't know that that was the moment being, like, introducing the team. Let's do it. I'm told this I cannot confirm, but I've heard this from two different sources that the video was put out early by the kid. Then UK Tweeted it out or something or retweeted it or. I don't know if they somehow UK Put it up. And I Was told someone showed it to the coaching staff and the staff demanded it be taken down as they should and was not happy it got put up. That's what I was told. Now I don't know. I can't swear to that. I do think that the kid put it out first. But I was told that someone one of the competes on the coaches that was like, what are you doing? Take that day.
Shannon The Dude
You know how they have like reaction videos on YouTube? I would love to have a reaction video of Mark Stoops face when he saw that video for the first time. Could you imagine?
Drew Franklin
That's the BBN United video behind the scenes.
Matt Jones
I want. And it was the. Yes, show me that stuff. You want to get me to subscribe to BBN United? You show me Mark Stoops watching that video.
Drew Franklin
There's a guy.
Matt Jones
You show me the first time Mark Stoops goes to that player and was like, what are you doing?
Drew Franklin
There's a funny video that we cannot possibly share because of the language. But there's a guy on Tick Tock that has a reaction to it and he's just screaming that Kentucky.
Matt Jones
I saw it. They're like kick. Kentucky says you have one month to.
Drew Franklin
Get to Conference usa.
Matt Jones
Listen, I understand. Hey, this will be funny. Let's recreate the Zeta video. I get it. Okay. You can't put that out in the Kentucky unit. Like do that on your own time.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah. You know, do it after the season.
Matt Jones
Do it. Do it when we go 9 and 3. Do it at the bowl game.
Shannon The Dude
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Okay. We are. We're trying not to go to. We're. Toledo keeps gaining on us in the point spread every day.
Drew Franklin
Oh, did you see the Toledo Update yesterday?
Matt Jones
That's one of the list. I can't think about it right now. Let's go to Scott. Go ahead, Scott.
Caller
Hey, good morning guys. Got a two part question for you. Then I'll hang up and listen off. Is there another college sports team that does a four hour talk show five days a week? And if there's not, what other college team do you think could?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean there's a few. They're not. There is no college sports team in the United States that has a show as popular as this one. And there is no one close. You know we. When we got bought by on 3. I now have access to all the numbers on all this ksr. The website gets more traffic than every other every other web college sports website and it is not close. No one is within. No one's within the ballpark. Subscribers to the pay site, we're not in the top five because we've been free for so long, but in like a year and a half, we got to where we're competitive. There's a. There's a handful above us. But when it comes to daily traffic, nothing's close to ksr. When it comes to radio, there is no local college sports show in America. I want you to focus on this and other people can play it, and you're going to be wrong. There's no college sports show in America that gets half the listeners. Ksr, half. There's a couple, like in Columbus and in a couple other places that also have pro sports teams that might get more than half, but nobody gets more than half. This, I've said this before, this is the number one locally rated sports show in the country. There's a few shows in big cities like in New York, where the total listeners is higher, but it's because their population is like 5 times us, 10 times us. So my point is no. And Kentucky sports is the reason. I'm not sitting here just bragging on us. It's Kentucky Sports. Our fans care more than anyone else cares. In Alabama, Auburn, their fans care, but it's like they don't consume it like we do. You've seen it like, there's no way. We have access to the numbers of every website, every radio show in the country. And they're not even close.
Shannon The Dude
Show me any. Any radio show that can go out every Friday and have 100 people at a remote at 10 o' clock in the morning. There's not another one. There's not another one.
Matt Jones
Think about Indianapolis last year when we played Tennessee. We're not even in our state and they were lined up a block down the road and couldn't get in. That's a combination of. I think we do a good job, but it's also this fan base, this fan base. Don't ever let anyone tell you anything negative about Kentucky fans and how much they care. Nobody cares more than us. Nobody on the basketball side, nobody's close. Nobody's close. Are the only one that's. I mean, there's nobody close. Kansas, Indiana, Yukon. Still, this is the number one fan base is Kentucky. And it's amazing. 859-280-2287. We'll take a break. We got to talk about can openers and how you. Tyrese Maxey. I feel for him. I've been there. We'll be right back.
